The, That Makes Your Hair Disappear
312.39: The Trich That Makes Your Hair Disappear Jennifer Raikes, the president of
Trichotillomania Learning Center, recalls that, The rhythm of running my fingers over my
eyebrows is soothing. One half of my mind is attuned to the texture of each hair, the tickle against
my thumb. Very soon, she would feel that ... this hairfeels out of place; it s too thick, too coarse. I
need to get it out. This is the urge that has been haunting her since her childhood. As she entered her
adulthood, she learned that she is not the only one with trichotillomania, the impulse control
disorder that urges one to pull out his or her hairs. In fact, trichotillomania is plaguing the lives of
one in every fifty Americans (Raikes 38). This disorder... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lastly, Criterion D and Criterion E demand that the hair pulling cannot be associated with any other
type of medical disorder or conditions (American Psychiatric Association, 251 252). Since the action
of excessive hair pulling can be attributed to delusion or hallucination caused by psychological
disorders like schizophrenia, physicians must test for the existence of other mental conditions
before diagnosing a patient s symptoms as trichotillomania. Diagnosing trichotillomania definitely
requires caution and precision (Thackery and Harris, 998 1001). An early diagnosis of
trichotillomania becomes important because trichotillomania can cause temporary and permanent
damage to the human body. For example, uncontrolled hair pulling can lead to skin bleeding. In
severe cases, infections can affect the bleeding areas, causing serious damage to the skin
(Phillipson and Gibson). Patients may also swallow the hairs that are removed from the body,
causing hair clusters to form inside the stomach. This condition, called trichophagia, can lead to
stomach pain or even stomach bleeding ( Trichotillomania ). Other forms of damage caused by
uncontrolled hair pulling may include short and broken hairs, damaged hair follicles, and increased
existence of non growing hairs. These are common harms of trichotillomania that may have the

A Summary Of Music Affecting The Music Industry
The music industry has been greatly affected by the rising interest in the internet. People can
instantly listen to songs by a single search, even entire albums. Digital downloading has allowed
people to have constant access to any and all music. Deciding whether it is affecting the music
industry positively or negatively is its own question, but there is absolutely no question that the
entire industry is affected. Most music is available to listen to without necessarily requiring
payment. Through websites like YouTube and SoundCloud, a fairly large amount of music is
accessible. Alternatively, some people simply download the music from different sources. There
has been some complaint that downloading the music from such sources is considered copyright
piracy, but not much is done to combat the illegality of pirating music. Combined with the fact the
any given person s music taste can change in weeks, buying every song that they enjoy listening to
can get extremely expensive. The executive vice president of the Warner Brothers Group, Paul
Vidich said, It is a challenge that we have got to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since the younger generations are more apt at using computers, they can outsmart these large
companies that control music sales. Capitalism has a way of forcing companies to necessitate the
creation of ways to end the free downloading music. They are not lacking in money by any means,
but in a capitalistic society companies must take all money obtainable. Vidich stated that there are
things that will happen that will begin to change the way we do business. Many people are also
aware that small bands rely on the profit of people buying their songs, thus, people will buy songs
from those that need the money to continue making music. They also know that the bigger, more
popular bands can survive without that profit, using the money gained from touring and selling band

Feminine Absorption In Tom Brown s Schooldays
Feminine Absorption As the quintessential English public school identity formation experience
novel, Thomas Hughes s Tom Brown s Schooldays highlights the masculine identity with the Rugby
School experiences of bullying, sport, and compassion. As the roadmap for the English adolescent s
journey toward manhood, Hughes creates the formula to transcend from the adolescence into the
true manliness form. Hughes s character, Tom Brown, can only complete this ideal masculine
model by absorbing the compassionate, motherly female qualities instead of rejecting them. Tom s
journey toward his manhood starts by his departure from not only his home to private boarding
school, but also from the matriarch. Hughes describes their motherson relationship saying, Their
love was as fair and whole as human love can be, perfect self sacrifice on the side meeting a
young and true heart on the other (57). His connection to his mother did not sever when he does
go away to school. Even though it may seem that the relationship must sever, it truly cannot. It
must however transfer from the mother to her son. Tom manages to fill two sides of a sheet of
letter paper with assurances of his love for dear momma (58). Tom s motherly love must continue
for this feminine quality of love to transfer. When his letter is duly delayed due to a letter sealing
technicality, two boys tease him by calling him Young mammy sick! (58). It is here that Tom
experiences his first bout of bullying and the loss of

Why I Went To The Woods In Walden
His book, Walden, in which he goes through his life after having moved away from society into a
house near Walden Pond in Concord, MA, provides his thought process on many things as he
lives there. He varies from discussing the law of society to the seasons in New England.
However, Chapter 2 specifically goes into the details of the places he has lived in and what he
desires to get out of life. The key part of this chapter comes when he goes into detail defining the
inspiration of this adventure coming from wanting to find the true meaning of living life. He
says, I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of
life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die,... Show more

For example, there are moments throughout the novel in which the wind blows as Sethe is
thinking and she is brought back to her days at Sweet Home, seeing the beautiful trees that
surrounded the plantation. However, those were not nice moments to be reminded of as the
particular trees she remembers are the trees that hung her fellow companions on the plantation.
The story frames it as, Boys hanging from the most beautiful sycamores in the world. It shamed
her remembering the wonderful soughing trees rather than the boys (pg. 7). Thus, right off the
bat, Sethe has a clear relationship with nature but it is so two faced that it could be something
seen as a beautiful sight or a shocking reminder. Along with that, overall she has very bad
experiences at Sweet Home when it came to having her milk stolen and just being a slave in
general. But she is not able to control when those thoughts come to her as, her brain was
devious, (pg. 6), so any sight of a tree could provide her with a sudden wave of depression, much
different from what it would provide for the others. The inbetween of the positive and negative
association with trees and nature would come in the moment that Sethe is running away from
Sweet Home, going through the woods. Although that moment brought her freedom and a new
life bringing her choice and much more, the process of it all was insanely brutal. All throughout
her escape, she was pregnant with Denver and had extremely swollen feet, causing her to be tired
out quickly. She reached a point in which she wanted to stop and die, but she is instead tended by
a white woman in passing, called Amy Denver, stops to help her, bringing the positive association
with trees for Sethe. As she is being cared for, Amy comments on Sethe s back looking

Negative Effects Of Violent Video Games
September 10, 2017
Writing Assignment #1
Blair Baugher
Introduction The issue of whether or not violent video games encourage children, and teens to be
violent is a heavily debated issue. There are many people who believe that violent video games
DO cause violence in children, and teens, while there are also many people who believe that
violent video games DO NOT cause violence in children, and teens. The relevance of this topic
ties into psychology by further examining how people learn, and the techniques that are prevalent
in how they do so. By stating that violent behavior can arise simply from playing a violent video
game, one is relying on the notion that people will always act in a matter that is reflective of what
they are surrounded by.
Summary
Through significant research, there is evidence that violence has risen in America. Some argue
that this is because children and teens are spending more, and more time playing violent video
games. Though there is ample evidence to prove that playing violent video games can have
negative effects on someone, there is no evidence to directly show that the correlation between the
two rising numbers is related. In the reading, Steven F. Gruel, who argued before the supreme
court, believes that playing, and or watching violent video games, causes children to act violently.
The cause, Gruel believes, isn t directly the video games, but the effect they leave on the children.
Children are spending more of their time playing video

Can Researchers Identify Sea Turtles Through Photo...
Article 1 Investigating the viability of photo identification as an objective tool to study endangered
sea turtle populations
1.The question that the researchers are trying to answer is whether photo identification is a sensible
practice to research endangered sea turtles. Their hypothesis was that people would be able to
accurately, reliably, easily be able to distinguish individual sea turtles using natural markings. The
researchers prediction is that if people use photo identification then they will be able to determine
individual sea turtles by matching the markings in the picture to the sea turtle.
2.For the experiment, first, an expert observer is tested on her matching abilities of the photos to

5.I feel like photo identification of sea turtles could completely change how sea turtles are studied
now. From the results of the expert observer, after naГЇve observers are trained turtles can be
accurately and easily identified. It would also avoid the problems of broken tags or harming the
turtle but still be able to observe the turtles. This experiment will help science because photo
identification will be a stable tool to study turtle population, ecology, behavior, and conservation
data.
Article 2 Recent changes in the diet composition of common minke whales (Balaenoptera
acutorostrata) in Icelandic waters. Consequence of climate change?
1.The question that the researchers are trying to answer is why the diets of minke whales changed.
Their hypothesis is higher sea temperatures caused minke whales diets to change. They predict that
rising water temperatures caused the preferred food source of minke whales to decrease therefore
causing the minke whale s diet to change.
2.The basic experimental design was that over 5 years researchers caught minkle whales and
within 3 hours of death, analyzed the diet of the whale. They found the volume and weight of fore
stomach, verified what species the whale had eaten, and determined how frequent a species was
eaten. The responding variable is the species found in the whale s diet that year

Types Of Sigma Delta Modulators
Abstract This thesis investigates several types of Sigma Delta modulators in different conditions as
a possible solution to the all digital audio and wifi signal receivers. In this research, two main
approaches are under consideration. Oversampling is a technique to design a sigma delta
modulators. Undersampling(or subsampling) is an interesting technique which allows the sigma
delta modulators to sample high frequency signals such as WIFI and GNSS signals. Time
interleaving modulation is another way to implement пЃ“пЃ„ modulators in high frequency

Eight to eleven million children under the age of fifteen work in Mexico. There is a small
number under fourteen. The children are employed in export oriented maquiladoras, or assembly
factories between Mexico and the United States. Maquilas are affiliates of American owned
companies that assemble goods for export, transportation equipment, electrical and electric
products, toys , sporting goods, textiles and furniture. The work force is made up of mostly young
females. The maquilas like to use children because it is really easy to get underage work and the

A Good Man Is Hard For Find By Flannery O Connor
In A Good Man Is Hard to Find , Flannery O Connor presents to the readers an uncanny encounter
between a murderer named The Misfit and a grandmother. The two characters when first
introduced seem to be antithesis of each other. This misfit is described as a murderer who seems to
have no morals or feelings, while the grandmother seems to embody a good Christian woman.
Throughout the plot, it is known that the misfit is not much of a believer and the grandmother is.
Due to the fact that O Connor wrote a lot about religion, it is not hard to figure out the connection
she tries to make between the characters and religion. In A Good Man Is Hard to Find , Flannery
O Connor uses both the misfit s and the grandmother s circumstances and behavior in order to show
the readers how the old and new generations feel towards religion. Throughout the plot she uses the
Misfit to portray the new generation and uses the grandmother to portray the older generation. O
Connor talks about the generations in such ways that show that the older generations seemed to
believe heavily in religion but in the wrong way, and the new generation is misguided with little to
no religious affiliations. From the beginning, the grandmother seems to be an old fashioned
southern lady who is the epitome of a good Christian woman. She puts up a front that makes her
seem like a true Christian, when in reality she is not really strong in her beliefs up until her
confrontation with the misfit. Before the

The Old English Proverb, Aesop For Children
Catalyzing Innovation The old English proverb, Aesop for Children, tells the story of a father who
charges his sons to break a bundle of sticks one by one. They easily do so. Then he charges them to
break the united bundle of sticks. None come close. This is a proverb demonstrating the strength in
unity and coordination. This is a proverb an American engineer and inventor largely upheld
throughout the course of his life s accomplishments. Douglas Engelbart, largely known as the
inventor of the mouse, affected the history of computing technology in a much deeper manner.
Rather a chronological account of Engelbart s entire life, this research paper analyzes his greatest
accomplishments in a chronological order that directly supported the increased coordination of user
s efforts. Douglas Engelbart transcended the limits of computing technology by aligning human
minds with computing systems through his collaborative user interface scheme. In order to
properly highlight Engelbart s accomplishments, some context is needed in which he developed his
collaborative user interface scheme. In the late 1950s Engelbart joined Stanford Research Institute
and there he proposed his vision in a research proposal titled Augmenting Human Intellect: A
Conceptual Framework. This extensive document poses a hypothesis that the intellectual capacity
of a human can be improved with an engineered approach restructuring the components of our
system of comprehension. The framework is best described

Unindigenous Species
The Introduction of nonindigenous Species The most important aspect of a government is their
ability to be able to decide for the people. One major decision that comes from the government is
whether or not non indigenous species should be transferred to another country. Since invasive
species tend to result in negative impacts rather than beneficial ones, stricter regulations should be
put into effect to avoid the possibility of unintended negative consequences because of the harm
that could come out of the transfer at the end. Yet, introduced species could be major improvements
in some aspects, therefore these stricter regulations should be based upon important studies and
considerations. As a result, the most important consideration that... Show more content on

Since an invasive species can be any kind of newly introduced living organism then it would be
hard to determine what risk there would be from the introduction and what they would result in
since, Approximately 42% of Threatened or Endangered species are at risk primarily due to
invasive species (Source A). This shows that the introduction between these species have either not
been thought out well or nothing has been done to prevent these threats. Since the protection of the
native specie and the ability of the non native specie to adapt to the new environment is a crucial
factor for a good encounter, the results must first be calculated as accurate as possible in order for
the government to base the decision upon because the non native species will endanger the native
specie if it becomes more dominant. Therefore, the habitat and food cycle of the native species
must also be studied in order to prevent any altercations because they are considered one of the
most impacted areas when the defence system of the native species is off. As a result, transferring
the non indigenous specie into the habitat of a native specie will only be beneficial if there is
balance in their ability to defend themselves from one

Analysis Of Ann Marie Macdonald s Fall On Your Knees
The extraordinarily horrible stories of multiple families connected together through love, marriage,
and friendship, all slowly unravel in Ann Marie MacDonald s award winning novel, Fall on Your
Knees . The story begins with Materia Mahmoud eloping with James Piper, who both move to a
small Village together in Nova Scotia where they raise a familyof girls, all of very different
personalities. Materia always tries to be the best mothershe can be, and James is a good man who
had an unfortunate upbringing, which eventually corrupts his morals later on when he has his own

characters. These three archetypes include the Nurturer, the Outlaw, and the Explorer, which all
become very obvious, quite early in the story. The first archetype seen in this story, the Nurturer, is
revealed in two characters: Materia and her second daughter Mercedes. The Nurturer is responsible,
organized, and loving, and is very good at taking care of others. Materia is not moulded into a
nurturer until she has her second child, Mercedes. Materia has trouble loving her first daughter
Kathleen and is never very successful in doing so. Although she lacks the affectionate aspect of

Nurture Strongly Influences Early Human Development

Nurture strongly influences early human development
Introduction
While nature produces healthy, well formed infants, nurture helps in developing them in the early
stages of their lives through practice and experience. It means that the early development of a
human is effective and faster by nurture than what comes out of nature. All children go through the
same sequences of growth and development in the same order right from their mother s womb, be it
the development of parts of the body and the development of organs, motor development after birth,
development of speech, etc.. Nature leads to ordinary development of a fetus into a human but it
cannot develop an infant into a healthy minded or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
can affect normal maturation of a fetus. So, it can be clearly noted from above that a fetus can be
completely organized and well developed only when given quality nurturing.
Influence of genetics and environment on the motor development of a child after birth
All children go through the same sequence of motor behaviors in the same order but they go
through the sequence at different rates. It is because those children who are not given attention or
taken good of (nurtured) are seen to develop in a slower rate than those who are given quality
nurture. Even if a child is born physically challenged, he/she can be trained or given physiotherapy
treatment to improve him/her to at least take care of their own selves. This clearly illustrates that
practice and experience makes a child to learn things faster and in a much better way than those
children who are left unnoticed.
Genetic and environmental influence on a child s development of speech
All human infants learn to speak in the course of normal development, but not until they have
attained a certain level of neurological development. It is applicable for both, children who are
given as well as children who are given quality nurture. As we already discussed on the motor
development of a child after birth, even here, in the case of development of speech of a child, the
fact is

Crime Is A Serious Problem
Policing and fighting crime are two terms often associated together. Crime is a serious problem
in cities and a lot of people are affected by it. Victims, criminals and their families are touched by
the outcomes of crime. Crime has increased over the years and is continuing to do so. The city of
Memphis has experienced a great increase of crime. Memphis Policehave developed initiatives to
reduce crime, using federally funded programs. Unfortunately, crime problems such as theft,
assaults and homicide have become irrepressible over the last three years. The rate of homicide
in Memphis is more typical of cities of its size. Assaults were accounted for 65 percent of deaths
in the area. (Kellermann, Rivara Lee,1996,p.1438 1440). The Uniformed Crime Report (UCR) is
very successful for keeping track with the rates of these crimes.
The environment, the personality of the perpetrator and genetics has all been factors to blame for
criminal behavior. Although, these factors have potential to play a role in the reasoning behind
criminal acts, they will have to be supported. Criminological theories can hold the context to
support the evidence of these factors. Understanding crime and developing strategies are the keys
in taking the step to initiate a strategic plan. When addressing theft, assaults and homicide, the
initiatives will have to be considered and provisions will be made for a successful reduction in
crime. Addressing the problems of theft, assaults and homicide a

Wales has two official languages, Welsh and English. The name Wales is an old Saxon word
meaning foreigner or outsider. The country is often referred to as the land of the song, because
Welsh people are often known for their love of singing. The Welsh flag, emblazoned with a red
dragon, is often debated over where it originated. Many people think the symbol dates back to
the flags carried by Roman armies, while others connect it to the Arthurian times. Wales is also
home to the longest place name in the world:
Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwyllllantysiliogogogoch. Many of the Welsh people enjoy
activities like visiting the pub, watching rugby, gardening, and going on outings. Many of them
are able to trace their ancestry back to some of the first settlers of the country. Wales is one of
the four countries that make up the United Kingdom. Its is a small country of about 3.063

Status And Social Status
It is said that humans are social beings and we want to connect with other people, therefore it
should come as no surprise that social interaction is an essential part of our everyday lives.
Social interaction is a dynamic sequence of social actions between two or more individuals or
groups and the foundation of social structures. Social structures are patterns that guide our
behaviour in everyday life and there are two building blocks of social structure, status and role. A
status is a culturally defined social position that is a part of our social identity that defines our
relationship to others. Statuses can be ascribed, achieved or master. An ascribed status is fixed and
involuntary, it is a status we are often born into such as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If we choose to become a parents, husband and wife also become father and mother and the boy
or girl born is given the status of baby. As a mother and father, each has a responsibility to love,
protect and teach their baby about right and wrong, how to speak and use language, both verbal and
non verbal to communicate. Parents have an important role as a baby s first teacher, the foundation
socialization. In Belize, as a multi cultural nation, babies may be taught by parents to speak the
language of their culture for example Mennonites may speak German or Spanish, the Garinagu
speak Garifuna and the Hispanics speak Spanish. However, as an English speaking nation,
mothers and fathers also teach their baby to speak English so that they can interact with other
people in society. Eventually as a baby grows into a toddler, an understanding develops about the
role of a mother and father and the toddler learns that parents should be given respect which
influences the interaction between parents and children throughout their lifetime. In our society
and societies around the world, children are taught from an early age to not only to show respect
for parents but to show respect for elders as well. If we were to think back to our childhood, we
would remember being afraid to answer our parent questions or commands in an ill or threatening
manner. A sure that we bid them time of day to our elders and said please and thank you.

Biology of a Squid Essay
Biology of a Squid
Squids are among the most varied and unique of all invertebrates. They are mollusks of the Class
Cephalopod, along with the nautilus, cuttlefish, and octopus. Squids are highly evolved, and have
developed a number of traits uncommon to most other mollusks. Fossil records of cephalopods
have dated back the Cambrian Period (about 600 million years ago). Structurally, squids have only
small variations of a basic theme common to all cephalopods. They are spherical or cigar shaped
with two fins used to stabilize movement when swimming. Ten arms are easily distinguished
emerging from near the mouth Eight of these arms each have four rows of suction cups encircled
by rings of chitinous (horny) hooks. These suction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Squids (and cephalopods in general) possess several unusual abilities that help them deal with
their predators (which range anything from large fish to sperm whales). Their lack of an external
shell allows them to squeeze into very tight places, enabling them to conveniently and easily hide
from their enemies. When confronted with a dangerous animal away from hiding places, however,
squids seem to have a disadvantage when compared to other mollusks with external shells. If
attacked, they have no exterior protection. To counter this potential crisis, they have adapted a
number of tactics. First, they are capable of temporarily altering the color of their skin, in effect
camouflaging themselves. They can shift their appearance from a deep brown color, to a white, or
almost transparent quality. Along with this, they are able to slightly change the texture of their
skin. This form of camouflage allows the squid to take the form of rocks, seaweed, or other ocean
dwelling objects. If a hazardous foe is not fooled by camouflage, the squid can release an ink
cloud. The ink cloud has a number of helpful characteristics that can ward off enemies. The cloud
initially causes the nearby water to become dark and cloudy, reducing the enemy s visibility and
allowing the squid to escape from danger. Some deep sea squids contain bacteria in their ink so
that the cloud glows, and scares away harmful rivals.

Ezekiel s Prophetic Journey
I was young man and priest (Ezekiel 1:3) when I was taken captive to Babylon by King
Nebuchadnezzar in 597 BC along with approximately 10,000 other exiles (Hays, 2010, p.200).
While in exile, I was called upon by Yahweh (Ezekiel 1:3) and commissioned to serve as His
prophet, and speak to my fellow captives who were struggling and feeling hopeless (p.200). In
spite of the situation, however, Yahweh demonstrates His great power and glory through
miraculous and great visions in order to prepare me for my prophetic journey (Ezekiel 1:1 3:21).
My mission and message; to warn Israel and Judah of the broken covenant with Yahweh, and to
call them to repent of their egregious sins or face the dark days of judgment from Yahweh (Ezekiel

In today s society, much of the resistance for finding ecological solutions comes from those who
would be required to drastically change their policies and business models. In general, an
environmental problem proves politically less difficult to resolve if a marketable solution exists,
says Janicke. In contrast, he says, if a solution to an environmental problem requires an intervention
in the established patterns of production, consumption, or transport, it is likely to meet resistance.
Furthermore, Ecological Modernization states that ecological innovations must meet the following

At times, the jetty is partially or completely submerged, which makes its constantly changing
nature even more apparent. Land Artist Michael Heizer s work plays with the entropic as well.
His project, Double Negative [see Figure 2.5] consists of an enormous tract carved into the earth.
With no framework or scaffolding to hold its shape, the piece is left open to the effects of erosion.
In both Spiral Jetty and Double Negative, the entropic nature of the pieces allow the work to be
designed as a part of the existing landscape yet separated from it. As Rosalind Krauss, art critic
and theorist, says, Spiral Jetty and Double Negative are the combination of landscape and non
landscape. It is instead a physical manipulation of the landscape, a marked site.
Smithson also advocated the use of post industrial sites for his work. For example, Spiral Jetty
was constructed from a ruined site; in fact, the abandoned oil rigs situated nearby were a large part
of what drew his attention to it. Furthermore, what was natural about the site appeared artificial:
the water in the Utah lake was colored an unnatural red by the algae living in it and the earth was
cracked and crusted with salt.

Special Needs In Special Education
One would think that through the achievements within special education that our culture would be
more willing and understanding of students with special needs. Even with great strides and
progressive steps to improve the experience within the education for students with special needs
society still does not fully understand what challenges students with special needs face daily.
Culture wants to be accepting within its comfort level and does not understand that to help students
with special needs or disabilities one must change to the student s level of understanding and
comfort. Within observations of general classrooms, it is still apparent that teachers want to
accommodate all students, but some are still lacking the understanding and knowledge of how to
modify their teaching style to help students with disabilities to reach their maximum potential.
Culture is still seeing students with disabilities as being limited within their educationnot fully
understanding that each student has different potential and needs specialized instruction (Personal
Communication). Within the course and through field observation the greatest thing that has been
observed is that each special educationstudent is unique, and each has their own academic
achievements and struggles. Within the course one learns that each student has their own
challenges and one also learns that there are many different strategies to teach students with
disabilities. Even though students may be limited within

The Objectives Of The Operation Bodyguard
Operation Bodyguard was the operation name for the subterfuge leading up to the D Day
invasion. There were three main objectives for this operation: convincing the Germans that Pas
de Calais was the main invasion target, keeping secret the date and time of the invasion of the
Normandy beaches, and keeping German reinforcements from heading to the Normandy beaches.
The planning for this operation started with First Thoughts, a paper created on July 14th, 1943
which had many of the ideas represented in Operation Bodyguard. At first, the Allied high
command was dubious of using deception as it did not work well in Operation Cockade. This
was an operation done to confuse German high command and draw them into air battles. However,
the Germans barely responded to the fake invasion force and the operation was a failure. Yet, even
with this mistrust of deception and use of subterfuge, Operation Bodyguard was approved on
December 25th, 1943. The largest operation in Operation Bodyguard was Operation Fortitude,
which could also be argued that it had the largest impact on D Day. The objective of this was
operation was to convince the German high command that the Allieshad a very large force in Britain
and in Edinburgh which were going to be used to invade both Norwayand Pas de Calais. Due to it
being a large operation, it was divided into two sub plans: Fortitude North and Fortitude South.
Fortitude North was focused on creating the illusion that the Allies were going to

The Oxidation of Ethanol Essay
The Oxidation of Ethanol
Ethanol is a primary alcohol and can be oxidized to either an alderhyde or a carboxylic acid.

[IMAGE]CH3CH2OH + 2[O] CH3COOH + H2O
The purpose of this experiment is to oxidize ethanol and then to test the product to determine
whether it has been oxidised to ethanal or oxidised to ethanoic acid.
Method
We added 6cmВі of water to a pear shaped flask, then added 2cmВі of concentrated sulphuric acid,
and set up the apparatus as shown below, but with a stopper in place of the dropping funnel. We
ensured that all the glass joints were greased.

Safety
There were many hazards in the context of this experiment in some of the chemicals we used that
we needed to be aware of.
Using ethanol was a hazard as it was highly flammable above 13ВєC and had a narcotic effect as a
result of inhalation of the vapour. It is also dangerous with oxidising agents as uncontrollable
reactions take place. To prepare for these hazards we needed to keep the solution away from the
bunsen flame and wear goggles in case any uncontrollable reactions happened.
The sodium dichromate we used was very toxic and could cause cancer by inhalation and was
harmful if swallowed or if contacted with skin sensitisation could occur. Ulceration also could
have occurred on damaged skin. It is also dangerous with combustible materials as it forms
explosive or vigorously burning mixtures. To prepare for this hazard we needed to be careful not to
spill any and to wear lab coats and goggles.
Sulphuric acid that we used is very corrosive and can cause severe burns. It is dangerous with
sodium as dangerous reactions could take place and also water as vigorous reactions occur when
the concentrated acid is diluted. To prepare for this hazard we needed to again make sure we wore
lab coats and goggles to protect our eyes, skin and clothing.
The sodium carbonate we used was an irritant on the eyes, skin and

Cricket As A Bat And Ball Game
Cricket is one of the exciting sport in the world s. It is played by most countries in the world.
Cricket is not that popular in the United States compared to the countries like India, England,
Australia and many more. Cricket was discovered in Southern England before the 16th century.
Cricket is a bat and ball game (similar to Baseball) played between two teams of eleven players
each on a field. At the center of which is a rectangular twenty two yard long pitch. The game is
played by millions of players around the world, making it the world second most popular sport.
Each team takes it turns to bat, attempting to score runs, while the other team fields. There is no
green or red card foul in cricket like soccer. There are three types of player in cricket, they are
called Batsmen, Bowler and All rounder. Batsmen are the batter who bat very well, but are not
good at bowling. Bowler are the pitcher (in term of baseball) who bowl well but cannot bats well.
All rounder is the players who are good at both bat and bowl.
My favorite team in cricket is India because I been supporting for 18 years and also I was born in
India. My favorite player is MS Dhoni (Captain of India team). Sometimes it s very difficult to
watch the matches of India because of timing. I would not sleep at night when India is playing
against some other team. I will try to watch the whole game and especially when MS Dhoni is
batting I would only concentrate on seeing him how he bat because I like his style and

Renewable Energy Sources Of Energy
The worldwide demand of energy has been increasing considerably. Up to 2030, it is supposed to
be 60% higher than today (B. SCHMITZ, 2013). Currently, non renewable energy sources, like
coal and oil, are more commonly used, since they are cheaper than renewable energies. In the
European Union, 80% of the energy consumption demands are covered by fossil sources (B.
SCHMITZ, 2013). But, non renewable energysources are running out and they are also very
harmful for the environment, since they generate greenhouse gases. So, it is very important to
discover more renewable ways to generate energy.
For a very long time, the only energy source that mankind had was the human muscle. After that
they discovered the fire and the animal domestication providing them a source of heat and help
from horses to plough their fields. The only other accessible sources of energy that they could
explore were wind and water. Sails were used on ships allowing people to move across water,
windmills and water wheels were used to grind grains and pump water. At the end the 18th century
Europeans discovered the power of non renewable energy sources and started to use fossil fuels,
first coal then oil and natural gas. With these new energy sources, a lot of new technologies were
invented over the years until in 1700 and 1800 when the industrial revolution occurred. These new
technologies based in fossil fuels allowed an exponential increase in the population and living
standards. But, this increase in

Jefferies injures himself taking a risky picture he is immobilized, confined to a wheelchair inside
his apartment for two months. Bored with his uneventful life he becomes completely obsessed
with the lives of his neighbors spending the majority of his waking hours watching them from his

Jefferies claims that Lisa is just not the right girl for [him] because she is too committed to high
society and materialistic for him. Jefferies barely acknowledges her and focuses most of his
attention on watching the neighbors apartments specifically the Thorwalds. She is unable to divert
his attention from the window even with the most forward flirtations. It is not until she puts herself
on the other side and into the movie that he becomes interested in her. Lisa finally becomes the
subject of his gaze and only then does Jeffries show any sexual attraction towards her. Near the
end of the movie when Lisa breaks into Thorwald s apartment, Jeffries does not see the same
Lisa he saw when she stood by him and sat in his lap. This dangerous act of bravery and courage
proves to Jefferies that she is capable of more than he previously thought. By exposing her
willingness to take risks he sees that there is more to her than high society and fashion. He now
looks upon a guilty intruder exposed by a dangerous man threatening her with punishment Mulvey
207 . He is aroused by this new spontaneous side of her. From this scene we see that Lisa
Freemont cannot become a part of the movie until she becomes a character in the movie within the
movie. This creates a new perception of Lisa

Essay on Arnold Schwarzenegger
From Celebrity to Politician
Arnold Schwarzenegger became governor of California, not because he supported the issues of
the majority, nor because he had a plan to solve California s economic crisis, but because the
economy was failing and he rose to the occasion. His popularity in the movie industry gave him
the face he needed to win the reelection. As easy as it seemed, how did Arnold manage to be so
successful in his campaign? He is a popular figure with almost no experience in politics. Known
for his star role in Terminator, how did his figure affect his chances of getting elected governor of
the most populous state in the nation?

When Arnold approached each town, people would sing along to his blaring rock anthem: we re
not going to take it anymore (Sanchez)! The majority of Californians had already felt that Governor
Gray Davis performed badly and was not able to alleviate the situation much more. As mentioned
before, people had lost faith in politicians, and they want a whole different kind of governor.
They prefer to hear the impossible rather than unkept promises. Arnold was able to use this to his
advantage. Along with his amazing speeches through his campaign, he used more than $10
million of his personal wealth and a relentless throw the bums out battle cry to attract legions of
disgruntled voters yearning for a postcard California where car taxes never triple and economic
good times are as reliable as the sunshine (Sanchez). In the exit polls Tuesday, 61 percent of those
who supported the novice Republican said they believe he can erase multibillion dollar deficits
without raising taxes, a feat that even some of his top economic advisors have questioned (Sanchez).
Arnold must have been confident that he will be able to keep his promises in doing the
impossible (Brown). If you look at what he had proposed, it is nearly unachievable for him to
accomplish his tasks without raising taxes. Wasn t he somewhat afraid of the things he said? He
looked serene and confident as he cast his ballot, striking a pose as a candidate who never

The Theme Of Existentialism In The Brother s Karamazov
The Brother s Karamazov describes the life of a man, named Fyodor Karamazov, and his four
sons. Each son represents a certain worldview which is explored throughout the novel. The oldest
son, Dmitri, after arguing with his father over his inheritance, falls in love with a woman named
Grushenka. When Fyodor is murdered, and three thousand roubles are stolen from him, the police
accuse Dmitri because of his conflict with Fyodor. The Brothers Karamazovdescribes how three
men with contrasting world views discover the corruption of their family and the truth behind a
hideous murder.

SГёren Kierkegaard is considered the father of existentialism ( Christian and Theological
Existentialism ). Kierkegaard wrote a book about the paradox surrounding Abraham sacrificing
Isaac. The narrator questions whether Abraham s faith in God can justify killing his son (SГёren
Kierkegaard: A Master of Refraction 78). Another existentialist, Karl Jaspers, argues that, free will
makes all faith essentially existential. Jaspers also argues that, since life is absurd, it is less absurd
to believe in a God which promises eternal life than to believe in nothing at all ( Christian and
Theological Existentialism ).
Dostoyevsky uses two contrasting chapters to argue against atheistic existentialism. The Grand
Inquisitor is a story written by Ivan Karamazov. In the story, Jesus visits the Spanish Inquisition,
but the religious leaders do not want Him there. They claim that they already have freedom, and
that His return will take the freedom away. The chapter reveals Ivan s belief that the church is just
a cult which thrives off of the weak, and it explains how incredibly boring a sinless world would

An individual s personality is measured with a personality assessment instrument that encompasses

The Cloud Of Cloud Computing Essay
1.1Project Background Cloud computing have revolutionized life as we know it; it allows
people to store, manage, and access their data by using a network of remote servers which are
hosted on the internet rather than using a local server or own hardware. A recent study
conducted by KPMG found that 81% of businesses were either evaluating cloud services,
planned a cloud implementation or had already implemented a cloud strategy [1]. Organizations
tend to use the cloud to reduce costs and improve efficiency. Cloud is not a commodity, some
people think that it comes out of the sky, while in fact it comes from physical hardware inside
brick and mortar facilities which are connected to hundreds of miles by networking cables. We
can conclude from cloud computing that it is a significant technology which can be utilized
nowadays and in the coming future to make everything easy. The project is to provide a web
service using cloud computing, there are many web services, but all the web services need a
platform to run on it which in this case is the virtual machine on cloud server. This will help
users to access their data from any device or machine instead of using hard drives. My target in
this project is to prove that cloud can be used for different kind of applications and purposes. An
example of cloud web services is enabling the user to create a virtual machine on the cloud server
of the web service provider. A virtual machine can be created and customized by the web service

  • 2. The, That Makes Your Hair Disappear 312.39: The Trich That Makes Your Hair Disappear Jennifer Raikes, the president of Trichotillomania Learning Center, recalls that, The rhythm of running my fingers over my eyebrows is soothing. One half of my mind is attuned to the texture of each hair, the tickle against my thumb. Very soon, she would feel that ... this hairfeels out of place; it s too thick, too coarse. I need to get it out. This is the urge that has been haunting her since her childhood. As she entered her adulthood, she learned that she is not the only one with trichotillomania, the impulse control disorder that urges one to pull out his or her hairs. In fact, trichotillomania is plaguing the lives of one in every fifty Americans (Raikes 38). This disorder... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lastly, Criterion D and Criterion E demand that the hair pulling cannot be associated with any other type of medical disorder or conditions (American Psychiatric Association, 251 252). Since the action of excessive hair pulling can be attributed to delusion or hallucination caused by psychological disorders like schizophrenia, physicians must test for the existence of other mental conditions before diagnosing a patient s symptoms as trichotillomania. Diagnosing trichotillomania definitely requires caution and precision (Thackery and Harris, 998 1001). An early diagnosis of trichotillomania becomes important because trichotillomania can cause temporary and permanent damage to the human body. For example, uncontrolled hair pulling can lead to skin bleeding. In severe cases, infections can affect the bleeding areas, causing serious damage to the skin (Phillipson and Gibson). Patients may also swallow the hairs that are removed from the body, causing hair clusters to form inside the stomach. This condition, called trichophagia, can lead to stomach pain or even stomach bleeding ( Trichotillomania ). Other forms of damage caused by uncontrolled hair pulling may include short and broken hairs, damaged hair follicles, and increased existence of non growing hairs. These are common harms of trichotillomania that may have the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. A Summary Of Music Affecting The Music Industry The music industry has been greatly affected by the rising interest in the internet. People can instantly listen to songs by a single search, even entire albums. Digital downloading has allowed people to have constant access to any and all music. Deciding whether it is affecting the music industry positively or negatively is its own question, but there is absolutely no question that the entire industry is affected. Most music is available to listen to without necessarily requiring payment. Through websites like YouTube and SoundCloud, a fairly large amount of music is accessible. Alternatively, some people simply download the music from different sources. There has been some complaint that downloading the music from such sources is considered copyright piracy, but not much is done to combat the illegality of pirating music. Combined with the fact the any given person s music taste can change in weeks, buying every song that they enjoy listening to can get extremely expensive. The executive vice president of the Warner Brothers Group, Paul Vidich said, It is a challenge that we have got to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since the younger generations are more apt at using computers, they can outsmart these large companies that control music sales. Capitalism has a way of forcing companies to necessitate the creation of ways to end the free downloading music. They are not lacking in money by any means, but in a capitalistic society companies must take all money obtainable. Vidich stated that there are things that will happen that will begin to change the way we do business. Many people are also aware that small bands rely on the profit of people buying their songs, thus, people will buy songs from those that need the money to continue making music. They also know that the bigger, more popular bands can survive without that profit, using the money gained from touring and selling band ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Feminine Absorption In Tom Brown s Schooldays Feminine Absorption As the quintessential English public school identity formation experience novel, Thomas Hughes s Tom Brown s Schooldays highlights the masculine identity with the Rugby School experiences of bullying, sport, and compassion. As the roadmap for the English adolescent s journey toward manhood, Hughes creates the formula to transcend from the adolescence into the true manliness form. Hughes s character, Tom Brown, can only complete this ideal masculine model by absorbing the compassionate, motherly female qualities instead of rejecting them. Tom s journey toward his manhood starts by his departure from not only his home to private boarding school, but also from the matriarch. Hughes describes their motherson relationship saying, Their love was as fair and whole as human love can be, perfect self sacrifice on the side meeting a young and true heart on the other (57). His connection to his mother did not sever when he does go away to school. Even though it may seem that the relationship must sever, it truly cannot. It must however transfer from the mother to her son. Tom manages to fill two sides of a sheet of letter paper with assurances of his love for dear momma (58). Tom s motherly love must continue for this feminine quality of love to transfer. When his letter is duly delayed due to a letter sealing technicality, two boys tease him by calling him Young mammy sick! (58). It is here that Tom experiences his first bout of bullying and the loss of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Why I Went To The Woods In Walden His book, Walden, in which he goes through his life after having moved away from society into a house near Walden Pond in Concord, MA, provides his thought process on many things as he lives there. He varies from discussing the law of society to the seasons in New England. However, Chapter 2 specifically goes into the details of the places he has lived in and what he desires to get out of life. The key part of this chapter comes when he goes into detail defining the inspiration of this adventure coming from wanting to find the true meaning of living life. He says, I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die,... For example, there are moments throughout the novel in which the wind blows as Sethe is thinking and she is brought back to her days at Sweet Home, seeing the beautiful trees that surrounded the plantation. However, those were not nice moments to be reminded of as the particular trees she remembers are the trees that hung her fellow companions on the plantation. The story frames it as, Boys hanging from the most beautiful sycamores in the world. It shamed her remembering the wonderful soughing trees rather than the boys (pg. 7). Thus, right off the bat, Sethe has a clear relationship with nature but it is so two faced that it could be something seen as a beautiful sight or a shocking reminder. Along with that, overall she has very bad experiences at Sweet Home when it came to having her milk stolen and just being a slave in general. But she is not able to control when those thoughts come to her as, her brain was devious, (pg. 6), so any sight of a tree could provide her with a sudden wave of depression, much different from what it would provide for the others. The inbetween of the positive and negative association with trees and nature would come in the moment that Sethe is running away from Sweet Home, going through the woods. Although that moment brought her freedom and a new life bringing her choice and much more, the process of it all was insanely brutal. All throughout her escape, she was pregnant with Denver and had extremely swollen feet, causing her to be tired out quickly. She reached a point in which she wanted to stop and die, but she is instead tended by a white woman in passing, called Amy Denver, stops to help her, bringing the positive association with trees for Sethe. • 7. Negative Effects Of Violent Video Games September 10, 2017 Writing Assignment #1 Blair Baugher Introduction The issue of whether or not violent video games encourage children, and teens to be violent is a heavily debated issue. There are many people who believe that violent video games DO cause violence in children, and teens, while there are also many people who believe that violent video games DO NOT cause violence in children, and teens. The relevance of this topic ties into psychology by further examining how people learn, and the techniques that are prevalent in how they do so. By stating that violent behavior can arise simply from playing a violent video game, one is relying on the notion that people will always act in a matter that is reflective of what they are surrounded by. Summary Through significant research, there is evidence that violence has risen in America. Some argue that this is because children and teens are spending more, and more time playing violent video games. Though there is ample evidence to prove that playing violent video games can have negative effects on someone, there is no evidence to directly show that the correlation between the two rising numbers is related. In the reading, Steven F. Gruel, who argued before the supreme court, believes that playing, and or watching violent video games, causes children to act violently. The cause, Gruel believes, isn t directly the video games, but the effect they leave on the children. Children are spending more of their time playing video ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Article 1 Investigating the viability of photo identification as an objective tool to study endangered sea turtle populations 1.The question that the researchers are trying to answer is whether photo identification is a sensible practice to research endangered sea turtles. Their hypothesis was that people would be able to accurately, reliably, easily be able to distinguish individual sea turtles using natural markings. The researchers prediction is that if people use photo identification then they will be able to determine individual sea turtles by matching the markings in the picture to the sea turtle. 2.For the experiment, first, an expert observer is tested on her matching abilities of the photos to tagged turtles with and ... Article 2 Recent changes in the diet composition of common minke whales (Balaenoptera acutorostrata) in Icelandic waters. Consequence of climate change? 1.The question that the researchers are trying to answer is why the diets of minke whales changed. Their hypothesis is higher sea temperatures caused minke whales diets to change. They predict that rising water temperatures caused the preferred food source of minke whales to decrease therefore causing the minke whale s diet to change. 2.The basic experimental design was that over 5 years researchers caught minkle whales and within 3 hours of death, analyzed the diet of the whale. They found the volume and weight of fore stomach, verified what species the whale had eaten, and determined how frequent a species was eaten. A Good Man Is Hard For Find By Flannery O Connor In A Good Man Is Hard to Find , Flannery O Connor presents to the readers an uncanny encounter between a murderer named The Misfit and a grandmother. The two characters when first introduced seem to be antithesis of each other. This misfit is described as a murderer who seems to have no morals or feelings, while the grandmother seems to embody a good Christian woman. Throughout the plot, it is known that the misfit is not much of a believer and the grandmother is. Due to the fact that O Connor wrote a lot about religion, it is not hard to figure out the connection she tries to make between the characters and religion. In A Good Man Is Hard to Find , Flannery O Connor uses both the misfit s and the grandmother s circumstances and behavior in order to show the readers how the old and new generations feel towards religion. Throughout the plot she uses the Misfit to portray the new generation and uses the grandmother to portray the older generation. O Connor talks about the generations in such ways that show that the older generations seemed to believe heavily in religion but in the wrong way, and the new generation is misguided with little to no religious affiliations. From the beginning, the grandmother seems to be an old fashioned southern lady who is the epitome of a good Christian woman. She puts up a front that makes her seem like a true Christian, when in reality she is not really strong in her beliefs up until her confrontation with the misfit. Before the ... The Old English Proverb, Aesop For Children Catalyzing Innovation The old English proverb, Aesop for Children, tells the story of a father who charges his sons to break a bundle of sticks one by one. They easily do so. Then he charges them to break the united bundle of sticks. None come close. This is a proverb demonstrating the strength in unity and coordination. This is a proverb an American engineer and inventor largely upheld throughout the course of his life s accomplishments. Douglas Engelbart, largely known as the inventor of the mouse, affected the history of computing technology in a much deeper manner. Rather a chronological account of Engelbart s entire life, this research paper analyzes his greatest accomplishments in a chronological order that directly supported the increased coordination of user s efforts. Douglas Engelbart transcended the limits of computing technology by aligning human minds with computing systems through his collaborative user interface scheme. In order to properly highlight Engelbart s accomplishments, some context is needed in which he developed his collaborative user interface scheme. In the late 1950s Engelbart joined Stanford Research Institute and there he proposed his vision in a research proposal titled Augmenting Human Intellect: A Conceptual Framework. One major decision that comes from the government is whether or not non indigenous species should be transferred to another country. Since invasive species tend to result in negative impacts rather than beneficial ones, stricter regulations should be put into effect to avoid the possibility of unintended negative consequences because of the harm that could come out of the transfer at the end. Yet, introduced species could be major improvements in some aspects, therefore these stricter regulations should be based upon important studies and considerations. Since an invasive species can be any kind of newly introduced living organism then it would be hard to determine what risk there would be from the introduction and what they would result in since, Approximately 42% of Threatened or Endangered species are at risk primarily due to invasive species (Source A). This shows that the introduction between these species have either not been thought out well or nothing has been done to prevent these threats. Since the protection of the native specie and the ability of the non native specie to adapt to the new environment is a crucial factor for a good encounter, the results must first be calculated as accurate as possible in order for the government to base the decision upon because the non native species will endanger the native specie if it becomes more dominant. Therefore, the habitat and food cycle of the native species must also be studied in order to prevent any altercations because they are considered one of the most impacted areas when the defence system of the native species is off. Nurture Strongly Influences Early Human Development Roshan Akthar Jahir Hussain 200821027 Nurture strongly influences early human development Introduction While nature produces healthy, well formed infants, nurture helps in developing them in the early stages of their lives through practice and experience. It means that the early development of a human is effective and faster by nurture than what comes out of nature. All children go through the same sequences of growth and development in the same order right from their mother s womb, be it the development of parts of the body and the development of organs, motor development after birth, development of speech, etc.. Nature leads to ordinary development of a fetus into a human but it cannot develop an infant into a healthy minded or ... So, it can be clearly noted from above that a fetus can be completely organized and well developed only when given quality nurturing. Influence of genetics and environment on the motor development of a child after birth All children go through the same sequence of motor behaviors in the same order but they go through the sequence at different rates. It is because those children who are not given attention or taken good of (nurtured) are seen to develop in a slower rate than those who are given quality nurture. Even if a child is born physically challenged, he/she can be trained or given physiotherapy treatment to improve him/her to at least take care of their own selves. This clearly illustrates that practice and experience makes a child to learn things faster and in a much better way than those children who are left unnoticed. Genetic and environmental influence on a child s development of speech All human infants learn to speak in the course of normal development, but not until they have attained a certain level of neurological development. It is applicable for both, children who are given as well as children who are given quality nurture. Victims, criminals and their families are touched by the outcomes of crime. Crime has increased over the years and is continuing to do so. The city of Memphis has experienced a great increase of crime. Memphis Policehave developed initiatives to reduce crime, using federally funded programs. Unfortunately, crime problems such as theft, assaults and homicide have become irrepressible over the last three years. The rate of homicide in Memphis is more typical of cities of its size. Assaults were accounted for 65 percent of deaths in the area. (Kellermann, Rivara Lee,1996,p.1438 1440). The Uniformed Crime Report (UCR) is very successful for keeping track with the rates of these crimes. The environment, the personality of the perpetrator and genetics has all been factors to blame for criminal behavior. Although, these factors have potential to play a role in the reasoning behind criminal acts, they will have to be supported. Criminological theories can hold the context to support the evidence of these factors. Understanding crime and developing strategies are the keys in taking the step to initiate a strategic plan. Social structures are patterns that guide our behaviour in everyday life and there are two building blocks of social structure, status and role. Parents have an important role as a baby s first teacher, the foundation socialization. In Belize, as a multi cultural nation, babies may be taught by parents to speak the language of their culture for example Mennonites may speak German or Spanish, the Garinagu speak Garifuna and the Hispanics speak Spanish. However, as an English speaking nation, mothers and fathers also teach their baby to speak English so that they can interact with other people in society. Eventually as a baby grows into a toddler, an understanding develops about the role of a mother and father and the toddler learns that parents should be given respect which influences the interaction between parents and children throughout their lifetime. They are mollusks of the Class Cephalopod, along with the nautilus, cuttlefish, and octopus. Squids are highly evolved, and have developed a number of traits uncommon to most other mollusks. Fossil records of cephalopods have dated back the Cambrian Period (about 600 million years ago). Structurally, squids have only small variations of a basic theme common to all cephalopods. They are spherical or cigar shaped with two fins used to stabilize movement when swimming. Ten arms are easily distinguished emerging from near the mouth Eight of these arms each have four rows of suction cups encircled by rings of chitinous (horny) hooks. These suction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Squids (and cephalopods in general) possess several unusual abilities that help them deal with their predators (which range anything from large fish to sperm whales). Their lack of an external shell allows them to squeeze into very tight places, enabling them to conveniently and easily hide from their enemies. When confronted with a dangerous animal away from hiding places, however, squids seem to have a disadvantage when compared to other mollusks with external shells. If attacked, they have no exterior protection. To counter this potential crisis, they have adapted a number of tactics. First, they are capable of temporarily altering the color of their skin, in effect camouflaging themselves. They can shift their appearance from a deep brown color, to a white, or almost transparent quality. Along with this, they are able to slightly change the texture of their skin. This form of camouflage allows the squid to take the form of rocks, seaweed, or other ocean dwelling objects. If a hazardous foe is not fooled by camouflage, the squid can release an ink cloud. The ink cloud has a number of helpful characteristics that can ward off enemies. The cloud initially causes the nearby water to become dark and cloudy, reducing the enemy s visibility and allowing the squid to escape from danger. Some deep sea squids contain bacteria in their ink so that the cloud glows, and scares away harmful rivals. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In today s society, much of the resistance for finding ecological solutions comes from those who would be required to drastically change their policies and business models. In general, an environmental problem proves politically less difficult to resolve if a marketable solution exists, says Janicke. In contrast, he says, if a solution to an environmental problem requires an intervention in the established patterns of production, consumption, or transport, it is likely to meet resistance. Furthermore, Ecological Modernization states that ecological innovations must meet the following three qualifications to succeed: First, the solution they propose needs to be to a problem that affects the global level. Second, it needs to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At times, the jetty is partially or completely submerged, which makes its constantly changing nature even more apparent. Land Artist Michael Heizer s work plays with the entropic as well. His project, Double Negative [see Figure 2.5] consists of an enormous tract carved into the earth. With no framework or scaffolding to hold its shape, the piece is left open to the effects of erosion. In both Spiral Jetty and Double Negative, the entropic nature of the pieces allow the work to be designed as a part of the existing landscape yet separated from it. As Rosalind Krauss, art critic and theorist, says, Spiral Jetty and Double Negative are the combination of landscape and non landscape. It is instead a physical manipulation of the landscape, a marked site. Smithson also advocated the use of post industrial sites for his work. For example, Spiral Jetty was constructed from a ruined site; in fact, the abandoned oil rigs situated nearby were a large part of what drew his attention to it. Furthermore, what was natural about the site appeared artificial: the water in the Utah lake was colored an unnatural red by the algae living in it and the earth was cracked and crusted with salt. Special Needs In Special Education One would think that through the achievements within special education that our culture would be more willing and understanding of students with special needs. Even with great strides and progressive steps to improve the experience within the education for students with special needs society still does not fully understand what challenges students with special needs face daily. Culture wants to be accepting within its comfort level and does not understand that to help students with special needs or disabilities one must change to the student s level of understanding and comfort. Within observations of general classrooms, it is still apparent that teachers want to accommodate all students, but some are still lacking the understanding and knowledge of how to modify their teaching style to help students with disabilities to reach their maximum potential. Culture is still seeing students with disabilities as being limited within their educationnot fully understanding that each student has different potential and needs specialized instruction (Personal Communication). Within the course and through field observation the greatest thing that has been observed is that each special educationstudent is unique, and each has their own academic achievements and struggles. Within the course one learns that each student has their own challenges and one also learns that there are many different strategies to teach students with disabilities. • 39. The Objectives Of The Operation Bodyguard Operation Bodyguard was the operation name for the subterfuge leading up to the D Day invasion. There were three main objectives for this operation: convincing the Germans that Pas de Calais was the main invasion target, keeping secret the date and time of the invasion of the Normandy beaches, and keeping German reinforcements from heading to the Normandy beaches. The planning for this operation started with First Thoughts, a paper created on July 14th, 1943 which had many of the ideas represented in Operation Bodyguard. At first, the Allied high command was dubious of using deception as it did not work well in Operation Cockade. This was an operation done to confuse German high command and draw them into air battles. However, the Germans barely responded to the fake invasion force and the operation was a failure. Yet, even with this mistrust of deception and use of subterfuge, Operation Bodyguard was approved on December 25th, 1943. The largest operation in Operation Bodyguard was Operation Fortitude, which could also be argued that it had the largest impact on D Day. The objective of this was operation was to convince the German high command that the Allieshad a very large force in Britain and in Edinburgh which were going to be used to invade both Norwayand Pas de Calais. Due to it being a large operation, it was divided into two sub plans: Fortitude North and Fortitude South. Fortitude North was focused on creating the illusion that the Allies were going to ... Using ethanol was a hazard as it was highly flammable above 13ВєC and had a narcotic effect as a result of inhalation of the vapour. It is also dangerous with oxidising agents as uncontrollable reactions take place. To prepare for these hazards we needed to keep the solution away from the bunsen flame and wear goggles in case any uncontrollable reactions happened. The sodium dichromate we used was very toxic and could cause cancer by inhalation and was harmful if swallowed or if contacted with skin sensitisation could occur. Ulceration also could have occurred on damaged skin. It is also dangerous with combustible materials as it forms explosive or vigorously burning mixtures. To prepare for this hazard we needed to be careful not to spill any and to wear lab coats and goggles. Sulphuric acid that we used is very corrosive and can cause severe burns. It is dangerous with sodium as dangerous reactions could take place and also water as vigorous reactions occur when the concentrated acid is diluted. To prepare for this hazard we needed to again make sure we wore lab coats and goggles to protect our eyes, skin and clothing.

  • 43. Renewable Energy Sources Of Energy The worldwide demand of energy has been increasing considerably. Up to 2030, it is supposed to be 60% higher than today (B. SCHMITZ, 2013). Currently, non renewable energy sources, like coal and oil, are more commonly used, since they are cheaper than renewable energies. In the European Union, 80% of the energy consumption demands are covered by fossil sources (B. SCHMITZ, 2013). But, non renewable energysources are running out and they are also very harmful for the environment, since they generate greenhouse gases. So, it is very important to discover more renewable ways to generate energy. For a very long time, the only energy source that mankind had was the human muscle. After that they discovered the fire and the animal domestication providing them a source of heat and help from horses to plough their fields. The only other accessible sources of energy that they could explore were wind and water. Sails were used on ships allowing people to move across water, windmills and water wheels were used to grind grains and pump water. At the end the 18th century Europeans discovered the power of non renewable energy sources and started to use fossil fuels, first coal then oil and natural gas. With these new energy sources, a lot of new technologies were invented over the years until in 1700 and 1800 when the industrial revolution occurred. These new technologies based in fossil fuels allowed an exponential increase in the population and living standards. But, this increase in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
