Biography of Michael Jordan Essay example
Biography of Michael Jordan Michael Jeffrey Jordan is known by many people as the best
basketball player ever to play the game. Jordan played for the Chicago Bulls, helping them
obtained six championship titles in eight years. Now remembered for being the best and the
most popular athlete in the sports world. He had a great influence on the people. Jordan was just
another great legend (Stein 2). Being a role model on and off the court Jordan showed his
abilities to play the game and his kindness towards other people, especially those who admired
him the most. His widespread appeal to fans has helped keep basketball one of the world s most
popular spectator sports (Stein 1). Michael Jeffrey Jordan was born on February... Show more

After he graduated from high school, he decided to go and play for the University of North
Carolina Where he was a big star and won a championship title with a last two second shot. He
was nominated player of the year. He then was drafted to the Chicago Bulls, where he had a long
list of outstanding accomplishments. Jordan s presence on the Chicago Bulls immediately
woke up the interest of the fans. The entire franchise was very enthusiastic and felt very positive
about their future. He was such a great player that on his first season he won the rookie of the
year award with 28.2 points per game. The Bulls had a losing record before they had Jordan.
After the Bulls had Jordan, nothing else but good things began to happen for this franchise. He
took the Bulls to the playoffs for five straight years in a row. But they would always loose to the
Detroit Pistons or Boston Celtics. One problem was that Jordan sometimes played at a level so
above his teammates that the Bulls failed to function as a team (Greene 8 9). During the 1989
90 season, The bulls signed Phil Jackson to be their new head coach. His new triangle plays
helped Jordan use his offensive abilities. As his desire to win a championship developed more and
more, he focused a little bit more on his defense than offense. As a result of his desire the Bulls
won their first championship in history for the season of 1990 91. After the end of this wonderful

Marcus Ulpius Nerva Personality
Marcus Ulpius Nerva Traianus, Trajan for short, was a highly successful Roman general and
Emperor in the early part of the first millennium. He started his career as a successful general,
expanding the Roman Empire. He was later the first Roman Emperor not to be Italian and
successfully extended the Roman Empireto its greatest extent as well as initiated many public
building projects, some of which survived into the present day.
Trajan was born into a non practician family on the 18th of September at Italica near Seville,
Spain in 53 CE and he died on the 9th of August in Selinus in Cilicia in 117 CE. His Dad was a
senator and a general. This gave him a start in his political and military career. As a young man, he

Trajan s main military achievement was that he greatly increased the size and wealth of the
Roman Empire by either Annexing or taking over neighbouring areas. Trajan s biggest campaign
was against the Dacia, a powerful kingdom north of modern Romania. In 101, he launched the
first campaign against the Dacians and their king, Decebalus, who lived in modern day Romania.
After defeating the Decian Army in 102, Trajan returned to Rome, only to fight them again in
105. This time the Dacians were utterly destroyed and they officially became part of Rome in 106.
He also conquered Armenia and the whole of Mesopotamia. While Trajan was emperor, Rome
expanded farther than it ever had, going all the way from Scotland to the Caspian

Bikini Atoll Scandal
I think the United States owes money to the people of Bikini Atoll as an apology for testing

historical event took place at the bikini atoll, in 1946 the United States took over the Bikini Atoll

One reason i think the united states owes money to the people of the bikini atoll as an apology is
because the united states made the all the people that lived there evacuate the island so they could

Options Trader Handbook
CME FX options deliver into a futures contract
One option contract delivers into one futures contract, and correspondingly, each option contract
has a notional value equivalent to its underlying future and currency denomination. Examples: EUR
/USD = €125,000 JPY/USD = ¥12,500,000 GBP/USD = £62,500 CAD/USD = C$100,000
CHF/USD = SF125,000 AUD/USD = A$100,000
There are four futures contracts per year (March, June, September and December called the March
Quarterly Cycle) each with a delivery date set on the third Wednesday of the Quarterly month
(referred to as the International Money Market or IMM dates by many forwards traders).
Our FX futures contracts are denominated in foreign currency amounts and quoted in USD terms
(except for cross currency pairs). Thus, a CALL option gives the right to BUY the foreign
currency and PUT the right to SELL the foreign currency

Humor In Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom
When we think of the genre comedy, our immediate thought is usually movies that generate gales
of laughter such as Airplane (1980) and The Naked Gun (1988) or great performances by
comedians like Charlie Chaplin and Steve Carell. Yet, humor can make its presence felt in movies
that are not archetypally included in the genreof comedy. In this essay, I will shed light on the use
of comedic elements in one such movie, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984). I will
begin by citing specific examples from the movie, with references to the three theories of humor.
Subsequently, I will discuss how humor impacts the implicit meaning of the film.
Before delving into examples of the three theories of humor (superiority, relief and incongruity), ...

Dr. Indiana Jones, the charismatic archeologist, is poisoned by his enemies in a nightclub and is
in dire need of the antidote. The nightclub singer and leading actress of the film, Willie, has her
eyes fixated on an enormous dazzling diamond. In a turn of events, both the diamond and the
antidote fall into the enemy s hands. A gun goes off and in the brawl that ensues, both prized
possessions fall to the ground. The nightclub attendees chaotically scramble, causing the diamond
and antidote to be tossed around the floor. Both protagonists frantically jump to the ground, but
Willie prioritizes the diamond, leaving Indy, who is on the verge of death, to desperately fight his
foes and find his antidote. In a comedic manner, the respective items keep slipping from the grasp
of the desperate duo. Willie comes in close range of the diamond before a bucket of ice cubes tips
over and surrounds the diamond, much to the amusement of the audience! The scene humorously
plays out a situation of life and death, which in reality is a somber circumstance. This is a clever
use of relief theory of Humor, generating laughter through stress release during an otherwise

The Importance Of Transformational Leadership
A leader is an important aspect to have in nursing. Many times a manager and a leader are used
interchangeably but in fact there is a big difference between a manager and a leader. A manager
has an allocated position and has power over decisions as well as having specific responsibilities
to carry out. A leader might not have official power but the capability to inspire others and anyone
can display leadershipskills. A nursemanager can be more effective if they have well rounded
leadership qualities which include motivation, accepting input from others, commitment to
excellence, passion about their work, clear vision, trustworthiness, respectfulness, accessibility,
empathy, commitment to coaching and developing their staff. Both managers... Show more content

Positive inspiration has a progressive effect on staff nurses by uplifting the environment. This
greatly effects job satisfaction. Creating such a team is a very important nurse leader task that can
drastically impact staff self esteem, efficiency and staff preservation as well as improve patient
care, quality and safety. Clinical nurses and unit managers should foster a team approach that
encourages shared governance, ownership of practice, and the expression of ideas and opinions in
unit councils and committees (Linnen and Rowley, 2014). Nursing must have involvement and
leadership from the staff. Over time, lack of engagement from the team ends in decreased quality
of care and staff turnover. More emphasis should be seen on empowerment and work atmosphere
suggestions. This greatly influences staff retention. No team can deliver the best possible care for
patients when morale is low, nurses are burned out, and their voices and concerns are largely being
ignored (Linnen and Rowley,

Hypatia of Alexandria
Hypatia, commonly addressed as Hypatia of Alexandria, was a mathematician, astronomer,
astrologist, and philosopher during the time of Ancient Greece. The city of Alexandria that Hypatia
lived in was originally part of Greece, until it was conquered by early Egyptians. Hypatia was born
around 350 370 CE and was raised by her father, Theon. Her father was a scholar of the Museum of
Alexandria, which was not, in fact, an actual museum. The Museum of Alexandria was roughly
similar to an academy, in the way that it was an early form of a school. The Museum also
included the Library of Alexandria, which was an area filled with papers and books filled with
vast expanses of knowledge. Theon was believed to have taught his ... Show more content on

Analysis Of The Movie Last Year
Last year, the Hollywood film Noah was released. Obviously I was intrigued, so I called up my
Pastor and some friends and planned to go to the cinema to see it. As many sources claimed, I can
agree that this is certainly one of the least Biblical, Biblical films ever made. Of course the actual
story of Noah in the bibleis not very long, so it was to be expected that the producers would add
some filler Hollywood action, but how much of Noah is actually based on the text that appears in
the Old Testament, and how much is fantastical movie magic? Just like the Old Testament, the
film starts at the very beginning. Noah tells his children the story of creation and almost stays
true to the Genesis story of creation. To begin I will explore the characters presented in the film
and the original story. The movie introduces two groups of people, Lemech and Noah the good
guys and Tubal Cain and his people, the evil men, who are of course descendants of Cain, which is
consistent with the Old Testament. Later, the character Methuselah is introduced, Noah s
grandfather. He lives on the top of a mountain and for some reason has a constant craving for
berries (The Bible says nothing about this strange detail). He also seems to posses some mystical
powers. Methuselah isn t mentioned much in the Bible, but he is the oldest documented person
mentioned in the book. Lemech, Noah s father, is only brought up in the Bible for genealogy
purposes. The movie on the other hand shows that

Evaluation Of A Performance Assessment
Evaluation of a Performance Assessment: edTPA James (Monty) Burger Texas A M University
Evaluation of a Performance Assessment: edTPA Teacher effectiveness is of the utmost
importance to ensure student success. However a valid and reliable performance assessment to
evaluate teacher effectiveness has historically remained elusive. Recognizing this need, Stanford
University developed the edTPA (formerly Teacher Performance Assessment) to specifically
measure teacher readiness/effectiveness. The edTPA began field testing in 2009, and has been
administered operationally since 2013. The focus of the edTPA is to assess an authentic cycle of

According to the 2014 edTPA Administrative Report some random sampling was done for scorer
reliability with very positive results. Out of 1,808 portfolios (which were double scored
independently) the scorers assigned either the same or adjacent scores with total agreement in
nearly all cases (93.3%). While that speaks well for the scorer reliability, as far as appropriate
sampling for validation and norming the edTPA appears to fall short. There are several
mentions of small sample sizes and differences in group sizes preventing any strong
generalizations or conclusions. Some sample sizes are as large as several thousand while others
fewer than 10, creating the opportunity for instability. Reliability The next condition that should
be closely reviewed when evaluating a performance assessment is reliability (Rudner, 1994). As
discussed above the inter rater reliability for the edTPA seems to be very reliable. Ten percent of
portfolios are randomly double scored to examine scorer rates, and the results provide evidence of
high total agreement. According to the 2014 edTPA Administrative Report the overall reliability
coefficient across all fields was 0.923, indicating a high level of consistency across the rubrics,
establishing that the rubrics as a group are successfully measuring a common construct of teacher
readiness. There was some concern with reliability specifically surrounding the

Heracles As A Religious Figure In Greek Culture
Throughout history Western art has been used to illustrate the divine and supremacy status of
both political and religious figures. Incorporated in these pieces relates to the specific cultures
political, religious, and cultural values. This is one way how certain art pieces can be identified.
This began as early as the Sumerian period and even today is still used. Although these methods
have been used for thousands of years, different styles emerged when looking at different periods
but this does not go to say that cultures never have not adopted certain styles and methods from
others. When looking at the Egyptian Old Kingdom, Greek classical, and Imperial Roman periods
much evidence of this occurring could be given. While successfully showing... Show more content

One of the most beloved hero gods is Herakles, or Heracles as the romans and current culture
pronounces it. According to greek mythology Heracles is the son of Zeus and the greek woman
Alcmene, this makes Hercules a half god. He was the result of Zeus affair which ironically earns
him the hatred of Hera Zeus wife . She attempted to murder him as a child by sending two
serpents into his crib, but he was so strong that he strangled both; one in each hand. Hera goes on
to hate Heracles as grows older. In the black vase painting Herakles and Cerberus, it shows
Heracles last labor being complete. Hercules final labor was to kidnap Cerberus, the guardian of
the underworld and bring him to king Eurystheus. He was given this task because returning from
the underworld was impossible, so for Heracles to return with Cerberus shows how powerful he
was. This vase was painted during the Archaic Period in 530 525 B.C. as greek because of its
qualities. The Greeks liked symmetry and the decorations on this vase follow the shape and so
does the two figures; when looking closely they both are slightly leaned forward following the
curvature of the vase. There is also a hierarchical scale, Heracles is larger than the king
signifying he is more important and powerful. Unlike Rameses in egypt, the Greeks saw their
gods as above the people. Something the Egyptians and Greeks did have in common is how they
gave their religious and political divine figures muscular bodies. Both cultures did this because
big muscles are associated with great power. It was and still is the ideal of a perfected body. Also
in this black figure painting the chest are facing forward toward the viewer just like in the egyptian
wall paintings. Although Greeks created many of their own methods of doing things, they still
adopted ways from the Greeks and ancient

Why Is College So Expensive If Students Are Paid So Little...
A Response to Michelle Chen A teacher has one of the most difficult and highest demanding
jobs in society. They are responsible for educating the future and giving their students the best
chance to succeed. However, many teachers and professors are not paid nearly as much as the
demands placed on them should indicate. Michelle Chen, in her piece from The Nation titled,
Why Is College So Expensive if Professors Are Paid So Little?, attempts to analyze the current
issues with professors wages in college and provide possible solutions. Although Chen presents
some solid ideas, her work suffers from her failure to address why college is so expensive, her
inability to provide more than one solution, and her overreliance on emotional aspects of the
conflict. In her essay, Chen states a few problems that can hardly be argued with: college is far
too expensive and professors are paid much too little. She focuses mostly on adjuncts, or part
time professors, as it is in this area that many of the problems reside. She writes, With student
debt and tuitions both ballooning across the country, a college degree is in many ways more
expensive or overvalued today than ever. Unfortunately, she fails to provide in depth analysis on
why college is so costly to begin with. It is because of this shortcoming that Chen s work is
much weaker as a whole. Firstly, her title becomes misleading, and makes her a possibly
untrustworthy source. Secondly, her failure to acknowledge the reasons why college is so
expensive cuts off an entire possibility of solutions. Addressing where all this money is being
spent could provide an easier and stronger solution than the one Chen provides. When discussing a
topic such as this, there are an abundance of possible solutions that are worth taking a look at.
Michelle Chen, however, only decides to closely examine one: unionization of faculty. She says,
[Layfield] hopes that organizing with her union for a fair contract can ensure future generations of
faculty will face a richer career horizon. While unionization is certainly not a bad idea, Chen puts
too much focus on this one solution. She fails to even acknowledge other possible solutions, such
as making cuts in administrative budgets

The figures I show are for the US. I expect that the European countries with all of the current debt
problems would likely have similar or worse values, if calculations were done for them.
I think the way GDP is calculated today misses many of the linkages as to what is really
happening. I know my model is not exactly right but I hope it gives some insight as to what is
really happening, as oil prices and the credit markets interact to affect the economy.
As I look at this model, one question comes up: What if a similar oil price run up occurs again,
followed by more recession, and even more reduction in lending? Governments are already
spending far more than they take in. The high spending already in place, and the large gap between
revenue and expenditures, makes it clear that there is not much room for a repeat stimulus program.
The next time around could be much worse! (Treberg, 2010)

Generally, if the average person gross income stays the same and the government raises taxes, it

A Unique Approach
REA has been inspired by a unique approach called Reggio Emilia Philosophy and it is to
develop a unique, fun, and developmental appropriate program for our children. To our eyes,
each child is seen as a capable, powerful, inquiring, and creative individual; our school instructors
trust that the play the children engage in has value. Play is seen as a tool that children utilize
daily to explore and to try to make sense of their world. Here, Children are able to test their idea,
interest and solve problems through play. In addition, we have strong emphasize on expressive
art. We believe that it gives children the opportunity to look and experience the world in a
unique way. We encourage children to use all their senses in order to have a greater
understanding of their environments. We find it so interesting to see not only the child s final
product of their work, but the whole process as well. The relationship between teachers, parents
and the children is a very important part of the educational experience of a child. Our goal is not
simply to build a warm and nurturing connection with each child, but to extend that connection to
another level by giving each child a sense of belonging. We maintain an open door policy all year
round, encouraging our parents to become involve with us and help us create a better environment
for the children. Furthermore, we encourage parents to provide us with ideas of community

Plato s Reflection About Love And Beauty
Plato s Symposium is a group of written dialogues in which Plato records speeches from many
distinguished men regarding love. One of these men, Socrates, tells a story in which he recalls a
conversation he had with Diotima on the subject of beauty. Although Diotima and Socrates made
some interesting points concerning the concept of beauty, in a modern interpretation, this passage
can be easily read as homophobic. With the incorporation of heteronormative metaphors, the use of
a male and a female narrator, and the promotion of what could be classified as unhealthy
relationships, Plato s approach to beauty should not be used in a modern setting due to the dated
homophobic concepts. In Plato s Symposium, he describes the concepts of love and beauty using
extremely heteronormative metaphors. For the purposes of this paper, I am classifying

pregnancy, a typically heterosexual experience. Plato also has this story narrated by a male and
female narrator, when previous and subsequent dialogues stick to one male narrator, which, whether
intentional or not, subliminally promotes heterosexuality. Finally, Plato promotes unhealthy same
sex relationships, rather than healthy ones, in his Symposium. Although many of these concepts
are not overt actions of homophobia, they are still important to acknowledge as homophobic,
especially as they are an impactful part of Plato s Symposium. Even though Plato made some
intriguing points, his concept of beauty should not be used as a modern interpretation due to the
evident homophobic ideas that filled his

Confronting the Past, Living the Present, and Enjoying the...
So often, the old adage, History always repeats itself, rings true due to a failure to truly confront
the past, especially when the memory of a period of time sparks profoundly negative emotions
ranging from anguish to anger. However, danger lies in failing to recognize history or in the
inability to reconcile the mistakes of the past. In her novel, Beloved, Toni Morrisonexplores the
relationship between the past, presentand future. Because the horrors of slavery cause so much
pain for slaves who endured physical abuse as well as psychological and emotional hardships,
former slaves may try to block out the pain, failing to reconcile with their past. However, when

Sethe understands that her history, filled with the pain of slavery, grief over losing her children,
and guilt over Beloved s death, and tries to hide from all the anguish. However, she admits that
the past seems to always be there waiting, thereby emphasizing the idea that past horrors of life
continue to haunt forever. It appears as though the power of her experience in slavery influences
her so greatly that the memory triggers great pain, causing the horrifying incidents to happen
again. Even though Sethe understands that she cannot ever fully escape her history as it will
come back to trouble her, she still tries to avoid them and thus attempts to shield her daughter
from the horrors of history: As for Denver, the job Sethe had of keeping her from the past that was
still waiting for her was all that mattered (45). It seems as though Sethe tries to deny the fact that
history does not simply disappear. She still tries to protect Denver from the past even though
history waits, prepared to cause trouble and inflict the pain Sethe tries to repress. It appears as
though Sethe continuously tries to fight against her memories and ignore her past in part one. For

H.B. Fuller is Not Morally Responsible for the Addiction of Street Children to its Resistol Products
1.In your judgment, is H.B. Fuller morally responsible for the addiction of street children to its
Resistol products? In my opinion, H.B. Fuller is not morally responsible for the addiction of street
children to its Resistol products. A corporationis morally responsible only for those acts and their
foreseen injurious effects: (a) which the corporation knowingly and freely performed or brought

Do you agree or disagree with the statement that the social condition in Honduras and Guatemala
are responsible for misuse of H.B. Fuller s products and that neither the products nor the company
is to blame? The social condition is certainly a main cause; but it does not necessarily take all of
the causal blame. Not only does the social condition factor into the misuse of Fuller s products but
also does the economic factor relate to the issue. The economic condition is certainly not the sole
bearer of cause for the misuse of Fuller s products, either. There are certain players in this
unfortunate epidemic that have not been taken into account. These variables include the retailers,
middlemen, and corrupt distributors who most likely made a profit from selling the glue to the
children on the streets. In addition, there was management among the subsidiary companies who
helped produce this product that must have been aware of this pertinent issue. Who is to say that
management never tried to resolve anything, or even bring up the issue? They probably did, but
nothing drastic as cancellation of their product ever came of it. All in all, the social and economic
conditions in Guatemala and Honduras were the primary reasons why the children resorted to a
medium of venting, namely H.B. Fuller s product. Could the company and its products have
intervened to help the dilemma?

Inclusion Proposal
I am writing this proposal so that you may consider inclusion as the primary way of providing
students with disabilities access to education by way of the least restrictive environment. While
inclusion helps fulfill the federal mandate of IDEA, it also has a profound impact on the students
with disabilities themselves as well as general educationstudents and teachers.
The first reason I am recommending Inclusion is because, simply put, it is the law. Even though
the word inclusion is not a part of the language of the IDEA, passed in 1975, the mandate of Least
Restrictive Environment (LRE) is, and it can be successfully accomplished through inclusion
(IDEA Basics: LRE Video). And one cannot help but see that inclusion is the goal when looking at
the LRE Continuum of Placement chart. Levels 1 through 7 require a student with disabilities be
present in a regular school and levels 1 through eight require some amount of participation in a
classroom with students who do not have a disability (Continuum Placement chart). In fact, not
including a student with disabilities into a general education classroom should only be considered
if all other options have been exhausted.
Another reason to consider inclusion is the impact it will have on the student with a disability both
from an educational standpoint and as it relates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

English language learners or gifted students in the same fashion (Inclusion Education

Effectiveness of Fiscal Policy as a Stabilization Tool
The Effectiveness of Fiscal Policy as Stabilization Policy
Alan J. Auerbach University of California, Berkeley July 2005
This paper was presented at the Bank of Korea International Conference, The Effectiveness of
Stabilization Policies, Seoul, May 2005. I am grateful to my discussants, Takatoshi Ito and Chung
Mo Koo, and other conference participants for comments on an earlier draft.
I. Introduction
Perspectives among economists on the usefulness of fiscal policy as a device for macroeconomic
management have moved back and forth over the years. Belief in the active use of the tools of
fiscal policy may have reached a relative peak sometime during the 1960s or early 1970s, and
practice followed theory. In the United States, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, one might wish to announce that the ITC would be eliminated in the future, to spur
investment today, but once the future arrived, and today s investment had already taken place,
2
it might no longer be optimal to repeal the credit. Hence, in addition to the policy lags that made the
implementation of policy difficult, one was confronted with two major additional obstacles: first, to
figure out how to evaluate potential policies and, second, to recognize that agents react not to
policies that are announced, but to policies that are expected. To these three hurdles, policy lags,
model instability, and dynamic inconsistency, the literature added several others. There was, of
course, the problem that estimates of behavioral responses to fiscal policy were just that estimates
of parameters, not the parameters themselves. Even with a stable model, i.e., one based on
exogenous taste and technology parameters, uncertainty about model parameters militated against
activism, as shown by Brainard (1967). Moreover, determining the right behavioral model is a
difficult task, given that all models involve simplifying assumptions, and some models of
household and firm decisions suggested that fiscal policy changes would be ineffective. For
example, there has been a long debate in the investment literature about the importance of the user
cost of capital as a determinant of investment, relating to such

diagnosis is made by serum toxicology (i.e., elevated levels of serum serotonin) Comorbid
conditions of depression, obsessive compulsive disorder and bipolar affective disorder may
accompany serotonin syndrome as primary diseases Treatment is directed toward symptomatic and
supportive care (e.g., benzodiazepines for restlessness, paralyzing agents for body temperature
regulation) Rhabdomyolysis is a nephrotoxic complication that may result from muscle breakdown

History of Film Exhibition Prior to 1927
While the actual films produced during the silent era of American film production and distribution
are frequently discussed and analyzed, both as primary historical documents and important cultural
contributions, the actual practice of exhibiting and viewing those films gets somewhat less
attention. Prior to 1927 (the year when sound films first emerged onto the national stage), movie
exhibition in the United States was still growing into the massive industry it represents today, and it
reflected in the films being produced. By examining the history of filmexhibition prior to 1927 in
general, and the experiences of Denver and New York in particular, it will be possible to
understand how the medium s nearly thirty year existence prior to sound was characterized by a
chaotic, open ended exhibition system that nevertheless predicts the gradual takeover of exhibition
by a few large chains. To begin it is necessary to note that there was some precedent for the
exhibition of films even before the medium was created, because by the time film became widely
known in the 1890s, phonographs had been set up in the arcades found in the heart of bustling
cities, where for a few cents customers could select various music and speeches, which they listen to
through individual ear horns (Gomery 4). Early film exhibitions attempted to recreate this process,
using Thomas Edison s Kinetograph to draw customers into arcades, even though the concept of
individual audiences make much more

Jeff Jacoby Bring Back Flogging Summary
In Bring back flogging Jeff Jacoby argues that corporal punishment should be brought back into
our justice system because imprisoning criminals is taking up too much of tax payers money and
criminals learn how to become better criminals in prison. He uses statistics, facts, and quotes to
help support his claim that our justice system is sub par and does more harm than good to
taxpayers and even criminals.
Even though Jacoby makes a good point the essay fails to include ethos and pathos making it
ineffective. Although he supports what he says with hard facts and statistics he fails to gain an
emotional connection with the readers nor does he establish his credibility.

A Brief Note On The Battle Of Tarawa
THE BATTLE OF TARAWA
Geographical location.
Tarawa is an atoll about 2400 miles Southwest of Hawaii. Betio is its largest islet on 3 miles long
and 1/2 miles wide on the west side with an airfield from east to west, with a lagoon bordering
Tarawa to the north with a bordering reef extending offshore around 1,200 yard. The water of the
lagoon was shallower however it was deeper on the south than the north shore which could give a
better landing location.
Tarawa s military importance was in its strategic position as entrance of United States through the
Central Pacific toward the Philippines
Preceding the Battle
The Allied forces in the Pacific were victorious at Guadal canal in early 1943 therefore begun
planning for new attacks. Admiral Chester Nimitz developed plans of campaigning across the
Central Pacific forwarded to attacking Japan by moving from one island to another, using each as
a base to attack the next across. Nimitz desired to begin in the Gilbert island , seeking the
Marshalls through the Marians whereby conquering these would make it easy for the forces to
bomb Japan on full scale.
Commander Rear Admiral Keiji Shibasaki of the Japanese garrison realized that if they took
control over Tarawa in the Gilbert island, it could block Allied communications and other supplies
with Hawaii. The Japanese held the islet from 1941 1943 in the course of World War 2. The battle
is historically recorded to have started on 20th November to the morning of 23rd November

men living in cities before the Civil War engaged in sports to define themselves, publicly, and
manly. The word that made me disagree with the original thesis is the word primarily . I am not
stating that men did not engage in sportto define themselves, publicly, as manly, but I do not
think that it is the primary reason. I would have also accepted this thesis if it had stated that men
living in cities before the Civil War engaged in prize fighting primarily to define themselves,

will use excerpts from the various sources we have read in class in order to defend my position.
What is the purpose of sport? The answer to this question has many different answers for the
many different types of people. For some people sport is a source means of entertainment, for
others it is source of exercise and recreation. It can be another opportunity for someone to gamble
or it can be a way to make new friends and enjoy other peoples company. In some sports, like prize
fighting and wrestling, men can exhibit their manliness or superiority through competition but there

The traditional status of women in the Ottoman Empire was not as oppressive as it was in
England and China, however majority of the drastic changes referring to the legal rights of women
took place after the fall of the Ottoman Empire following World War I. During the 16th and 17th

During this period, women of the Imperial Harem demonstrated that they had mass political
influence when it came to governing the empire. The Harem were private quarters of the Sultan,

It was the process of arranged marriages by fellow Christians or Jews. However, when the 19th
century began, Islamic Law required that the female give her consent to the marriage contract,
then go to the Muslim court that took her stance, thus preventing any unwanted or forced
marriage. This was a massive change because arranged marriages were a crucial part of traditional
customs, and Islamic Law gave women the opportunity to decide their own future. While this was
an improvement for Ottoman women, oppression continued to be present in society. Similar to
this situation would be that of women s rights in Japan. The rise of the Meiji Restoration in 1889
certainly lessened the influence of men in society. However, women were still oppressed and
denied of any legal rights. The Meiji Constitution completely ignores women s rights, and its sole

Contributions Of Charles Darwin
Charles Darwin was an intelligent man. He didn t exactly succeed in the school institution even
though his family was wealthy, they didn t help Darwin with his courses in college. Dr. Robert
Darwin, Darwin s father sent him to medical school at Edinburg but unfortunately, Darwin
flunked out and was sent to Cambridge University for ministry. At Cambridge his professor, John
Henslow took Darwin scientific studies seriously and introduced him to influential people like
Captain Robert Fitzroy of the royal navy. Darwin embarked on the HMS Beagle as Fitzroy s
naturalist unpaid companion. The caption was given two missions, completed a survey of the
southern coast of South American and to obtain more accurate fixes of longitudes by using new
instruments. Darwin plans were to observe and collect specimens on the voyage. One of Darwin s
most significant discoveries was his discovery of the finches located on the GalГЎpagos Islands.
The finches were a major key to Darwin s theory of natural selection. Traveling in the HMS Beagle
also gave Charles Darwinthe idea of the theory of evolution and natural selection.
Darwin s voyage on the beagle was single handed the most important and defining moment of his
career. The beagle was a navy vessel which carried approximately 75 individuals. Darwin had a

Elie Wiesel s My Hero
There are many views on what a hero is. When you hear the word hero, what is the first thing that
comes to mind? Do you imagine Superman saving a damsel in distress, perhaps you think of a
family member, or a popstar? Over time the word hero has mutated and become disfigured, so that
our generation has no idea what it truly means. So, what is a heroand is it healthy to give them our
adoration?
In the article, My Hero: Extraordinary People on the Heroes Who Inspire Them by Elie Wiesel,
the author expresses his opinion on the idea of heroes. Wiesel starts off by stating, I am deeply
skeptical about the very concept of the hero for many reasons and I am uncomfortable with what

Weisel thinks that people blindly believe in their heroes without knowing them, or what they
stand for. Jack rises to power, because the other boys need someone or something to believe in.
Jack knows this, so he takes advantage of the situation. He says, I ought to be chief, because I m
chapter chorister and head boy. I can sing C sharp (William Golding 23). The choir boys have
already experienced so much change, so they need to have a constant in their lives. Jack was
already their leader before, so they decide to follow him. At the time, the boys had no idea Jack
stood for savagery, but when they find out it s too late to turn back. The boys are already
hooked by Jack, so they decide to stand by him. Jason s opinion that heroes aren t that special, is
true. Jack, leader of the choir boys, and Ralph, leader of all the others, were just normal boys too.
These two boys were just put in abnormal positions.
I believe both men have an ineffectual point in their essays. It would be difficult to go through
this world without believing in heroes. Heroes give strength and encourage people. Yes, I agree
people need to know their heroes, and understand their motives. It s not safe to give strangers
blatant idolization. With worship and idolization comes power. I also agree that our heroes are not
all that special. They are still people like us, and they make mistakes. Furthermore, there is still an
importance in having heroes.

Claude Monet and Vincent van Gogh were two prominent, influential painters that contributed and

Both of these styles share similar characteristics and have a focal point around color, but they speak

egregious issues about life, whereas Monet is capturing the existing moment of nature. To analyze

The brush strokes create a sense of motion in his work, and with the usage of his rocks, create a
story that he is trying to communicate to us. This story begins in the bottom left corner of the
painting. Van Gogh uses brush strokes to draw our attention to this point and then carries us to
the following rocks through his usage of a zig sag diagonal. He is taking us through life in this
picture, communicating that you will go through ups and downs in your life. This statement can
be seen in the second diagonal. We see a thick patch of grass symbolizing a tough time in life s
path, and similarly again at the bottom of the tree. Van Gogh is communicating that you will not
always have a clear road to success, but that if you follow the path, you will eventually become
success or reach your set goal in life. At least this is what I want to think, but Van Gogh was
probably more cynical in his approach, and is probably delivering the message that people will
reach their longed, craved evil action right before their death or last moment.
Van Gogh communicates this to us through his usage of the sky. Notice in the painting that there
is only a hint of blue. He is revealing either that there is nothing worthwhile once you have come
to the end of your path or that only a few people actually live a morally right life and do not
commit their craved sin. Unfortunately, no one will ever know the answer to what van Gogh

Negative Effects Of Radiation
The word radiation means several things such as radio waves and light. When such types of
radiation travel through substances, it can become charged electrically. When it is also in a tissue
that is living, the ions that were produced by the radiation can affect biological processes (IAEA
(International Atomic Energy Agency), n.d.). There are several ways people are exposed to
radiation, including x rays, radiation used to diagnose diseases and for cancer therapy, nuclear
explosive testing that goes wrong, small quantities of radioactive materials released into the
environment from coal and nuclear power plants, etc. (IAEA (International Atomic Energy

plants are very different. They are all energy, but the difference is that unlike the others, cell phones
are not radioactive, and harms the body, unlike the others (Ornes, 2011).
The phones operate by altering your voice into a radio wave, which it dispatches with an antenna
that it also uses to receive the radio waves from the other line, which it changes to a voice that
the user can comprehend. Since the radio waves are also a type of radiation, if the user s phone
is close to the user s head, the tissues can absorb the radiation, which hasn t yet been confirmed,
but could later on be the cause of a brain tumor or disease, since the use of cell phones didn t start
until about 15 years ago (Ornes, 2009). Studies show that spending 50 minutes or more with an
active phone near your ear increases harmful brain activity because when cell phones are
actively working, the radiation they emit could hurt you, after years of using a cell phone.
Although there is a lot of evidence that suggests that cell phones are harmful, scientists, are still
not completely sure (Ornes, 2011). SAR (Specific Absorption Rate) is the rate measurement of
how much radiation your body s tissues can absorb when you are using a cellphone. The SAR for a
cellphone is set for a limit of 1.6 watts of energy absorbed per kilogram of body weight (Highest
and Lowest Radiation Cell Phones, 2017).

Chickenpox and its Epidemiology
Chickenpox is a viral infection caused by the Varicella Zoster Virus (VZV) transmitted via the
respiratory route that causes itchy, blisters like rashes usually lasting about 5 10 days. It is highly
contagious transmitted by person to person contact (direct) from respiratory secretions or indirectly
through contact with airborne respiratory droplets, via soiled inanimate objects infected by
discharge from skin lesions, vesicle discharges or nasopharyngeal secretions. The incubation
period lasts about 10 21 days and the disease is communicable 1 2 days ... Show more content on

This contributes to the development of chicken pox in individuals who don t have health insurance
or is an illegal immigrant, they will be less likely to participate in primary prevention and more
likely to delay obtaining medical treatment. Some barriers to health services that contributes to the
development of the disease includes high cost, lack of availability or in the case of vaccine
shortage mostly seen in developing countries and limited language access. These barriers can cause
unmet health needs and inability to receive preventative services. Individual behavior as a
determinant of health plays a major role in health outcomes. Individual behavior consists of diet,
physical activity, hand washing and compliance with vaccine preventable diseases. This factor
contributes to the development of chickenpox when individuals refused be vaccinated and do not
have natural immunity against the disease. Therefore in an epidemic of chickenpox these
individuals have a higher risk of contracting the disease. Biological and genetic factors affects
specific populations more than others. An example of a genetic determinant of health is Sickle
Cell Disease which is a condition characterized by the offspring inheriting the disease because
both parents carry the sickle cell gene. In the case of chickenpox there is no biological or genetic
factors that contributes to a person developing the disease as

Theological Understandings of Mediated Grace
Theological Understandings ofMediated Grace
When approaching the concept of grace, many people often assume that it is other a mysterious
force that exists beyond human understanding. They believe that grace is a divine gift that cannot
be humanly grasped because of its supernatural nature. Others believe that mediated grace God as
experienced through the senses in a purely human manner is a vital way to bridge the ontological
gap (an extreme difference in being that separates the earthly and the divine). Christian theologians
from the beginning of the faith have debated the qualities attributed to this phenomenon because of
its sheer importance; when dealing with vastly different elements, such as humans and God, the ...

While most theologians agree upon the existence and importance of mediated grace, they often
disagree upon the exact nature of its role. What this conflict yields though, is not a sense of discord
and disunity, but a greater appreciation of the immense horizon of grace as perceived by humanity.
Perhaps the most obvious example of this is the clash between Martin Luther and the tenets of the
Roman Catholic Church (represented here by their Decree on Justification that was presented
at the Council of Trent). Luther saw grace as the way to salvation, while the Catholic Church
intimated that grace itself was salvation. In his treatise on Christian Liberty, he said very great
care must always be exercised so that no man in a false confidence imagines that by such works
he will be justified or acquire merit or be saved; for this is the work of faith alone. [8] He
referred to this kind of grace as alien righteousness, which he claimed was instilled in us without
our works by grace alone. [9] Unlike the Thomistic precepts that the Council of Trent was working
from (Aquinas s theory of deification), Luther did not believe that grace affected an ontological
change in the person. On the other side, the Trent decree maintained that One truly merits salvation
through good works in grace. [10] Luther felt

Arguments Against Vegetarianism
Albert Einstein once said, Nothing will benefit human health and increase the chances for survival
of life on earth as much as the evolution to a vegetarian diet. Many enlightened and intelligent
people have along with Einstein come to realize that the problems Americans face with health and
the environment can be solved with simply partaking in the more compassionate lifestyle
accredited to the vegetarian movement. Americans should adopt vegetarian dietsbecause they are
more beneficial to one s health, more sustainable for the environment, and more ethical than the
standard Western diet. Adopting a vegetarian diet has exceptional health benefits that can t be
ignored. For instance, in the article Why Turn to Vegetarianism, award... Show more content on

For example, in the article Vegetarianism Is a Moral Decision with Many Benefits, psychologist,
professor, and author, Melanie Joy states, When we say yes to health, we say no to harm. We
protect our bodies as well of the bodies of the animals approximately 20,000 of them per minute in
the U.S. alone who are brutally raised and slaughtered for their flesh and excretions. Animals are
intelligent, loving, and very much deserving of life. Humans have come to think that they own
every animal on the planet and can extort, exploit and execute them at no cost except $5.99 a
pound. However, there is a much greater cost to the meat on America s plate millions of animals
lives. Furthermore, in the same article, Melanie Joy states, Animals are routinely castrated, de
beaked, and de horned without any painkiller whatsoever. They are born and raised in crowded,
filthy, dark environments where their existence is one of abject misery and terror. Animals are
sentient beings with nervous systems and thought processes. The pain and suffering animals in
commercial farming must endure preceding their murder is harrowing. If factory farms had glass
walls, people would take a moment to think about the consequences their eating habits ensue. It is a
simple and apparent conclusion that a vegetarian diet is more humane and virtuous than the
standard Western

Bury The Dead Sparknotes
In 1936, the playwright Irwin Shaw synthesized the groans of a restless generation on the brink of
a subsequent, devastating war into an ominous work of art. Bury the Dead, his expressionistic anti
war agitprop, successfully sympathizes with the lost youth of that war generation, while also
pointing a dark finger at those who perpetrated the conflict. In addition, the play stands at the
pinnacle of early sardonic propaganda. In Shaw s time, the grim reality of a second world war
provided his inspiration. In today s time, another grim reality rises up to inspire a new string of
creative art. James Davison Hunter, a political sociologist, declared in his 1991 book, Culture
War: The Struggle to Define America, that America was embroiled in a war of opinion and social
differences that had irreversibly polarized the country (Hunter). This war could be as deadly to
American unity as the Second World War was to the indomitable spirit of the American doughboy
(Shaw). In light of this comparison, Bury the Dead holds a new, yet equally poignant meaning as a
collection of political pundits, burgeoning party control, and narrowly biased media draws deep
battle lines between this country s people. A transposition of Bury the Dead s pre war setting to a
modern, eerily comfortable juxtaposition of war and American culture would respect the original
themes while presenting a meaningful study on the current division in America. This approach
would also maintain the expressionistic value of

Argumeative Essay Hasty Generalization
When writing an argumentative essay, there are certain debate skills that different writers like to
use. However, there are also many poor choices in writing that many people make, known as
fallacies. These fallacies can damage the argument presented in ones paper, whether it is used on
purpose or not.
One big example of a fallacy is known as Hasty Generalization . People use hasty generalization
when they make assumptions on a whole group of people, based on only a small sample. For
example, if somebody went to a Texas Roadhouse and received terrible customer service from their
waitress, and then wrote about how awful Texas Roadhouses waitresses are, he/she would be using
hasty generalization. That person would be giving his opinion of the company as a whole, based
only on one waitress at one restaurant. In an argumentative essay, your argumentwill not be very
strong is you are using this fallacy.
Another common fallacy, especially in marketing and commercials, is Appeal to Authority . This
fallacy is used when somebody uses a well known person to help convince the audience of their
view. Although this trick may work in advertising,it should be avoided when writing. Just because
Joe Keery says Dominos Pizza is the best does not make it true. If, however, somebody quoted a
professional who has done real ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This fallacy is basically false connection. A basic example of this would be I ate pizza yesterday,
and I got an A on my test today, therefor eating pizza must make me smarter . Obviously there is
no real connection there. However, it is not always so obvious, and can be commonly misused in
a paper. Maybe somebody states that in 2004, crime stated increasing in New York, and Facebook
also launched in 2004, so Facebook must be the reason for the increase in crime. Although it is
possible that Facebook could have had a small role, there is no evidence or confirmation that this is

Essay On Keynes Vs Hayek
Keynes vs Hayek The Commanding heights video takes us to the economic disaster that arose in
the aftermath of World War One. Following World War One two young economists emerged that
hoped to solve the world s economic troubles, John Meynard Keynes and Friederich Hayek. Each
having a completely different philosophy in the role of government in the economy. Keynes
theorized that heavy government influence was essential in the economy, and many of his
principals were implemented in Franklin Roosevelt s New Deal policy which helped pull America
out of the Great Depression. On the other hand Hayek insisted that the lesser of a role government
played in economicsthe better. He argued that socialist states cannot be successful because they
lack a functioning price system to send the signals to consumers and producers, thus inducing a
chaos. Keynes was a British economist who is credited for being the father of macroeconomics. The
foundation of Keynes theory relies on government playing a strong and fundamental role in the
economy. To be put simply Keynes theory is that the government can borrow money to spend on
such things like public works. By doing so the government would create jobs... Show more content

Hayek was also a British economist, however he theorized that free market was the best
alternative, and believed government should play little to no role in economic policy. Hayek
believed that the idea of central planning left no room for economic calculation. Hayek believed
that the government did not possess the ability to make rational decisions, wither to put a resource
here, or buy a good there, because there was no price system to weigh the alternatives. In summary
Hayek believed that government could make technical decisions, but not economic decisions. Less
government intervention meant for more economic freedom. In his theory when people were
allowed the freedom to choose, the economy would run more

Susan B Anthony Dares To Vote And Don T Give Up The Fight
The stories Susan B Anthony Dares To Vote and Don t Give Up The Fight are similar but they
also have their differences. The stories have the similar themes of perseverance because they
both push themselves to get to their goals. Susan B. Anthony in the story Susan B. Anthony
Dares To Vote kept persevering to earn equal rights for all women in the country even though
she could possibly get put in prison. Ava Clark from Don t Give Up The Fight persevered to
prove that it doesn t matter if she is a boy or girl, she can still reach the same goals as everyone
else. While these stories have the same themes, Susan B Anthony is trying to change the lives of
women across the country while Ava Clark is trying to change things for herself.... Show more

The story Susan B. Anthony Dares To Vote and Don t Give Up The Fight both try to change lives
for the better, but while Anthony is trying to change the lives of everybody in the United States,
Ava is trying to make life better for herself. For example, in the passage Susan B. Anthony Dares
To Vote, Susan replies to the judges fine by saying, And I shall earnestly and persistently
continue to urge all women... that resistance to tyranny is obedience. This shows that Anthony is
trying to change rights for women because she pledges to the judge that she will not stop urging
women about the unfairness until they get what they deserve. While Anthony helps women, Ava
helps herself by persevering to get what she wants. For example, Ava showed perseverance and
how she helps herself when she tells her principal about what has happened at the race which got
both Mr. McCoy and Jacob sent to the principal s office. This proves that Ava helps herself
because even though she was afraid of telling anyone what had happened she did anyway and got
the antagonist s in trouble. Also, nobody else but herself is affected in a positive way by her

He had a great influence on the people. Jordan was just another great legend (Stein 2). After he graduated from high school, he decided to go and play for the University of North Carolina Where he was a big star and won a championship title with a last two second shot. He was nominated player of the year. He then was drafted to the Chicago Bulls, where he had a long list of outstanding accomplishments. Jordan s presence on the Chicago Bulls immediately woke up the interest of the fans. The entire franchise was very enthusiastic and felt very positive about their future. He was such a great player that on his first season he won the rookie of the year award with 28.2 points per game. The Bulls had a losing record before they had Jordan. After the Bulls had Jordan, nothing else but good things began to happen for this franchise. He took the Bulls to the playoffs for five straight years in a row. But they would always loose to the Detroit Pistons or Boston Celtics. One problem was that Jordan sometimes played at a level so above his teammates that the Bulls failed to function as a team (Greene 8 9). During the 1989 90 season, The bulls signed Phil Jackson to be their new head coach. His new triangle plays helped Jordan use his offensive abilities. As his desire to win a championship developed more and more, he focused a little bit more on his defense than offense. As a result of his desire the Bulls won their first championship in history for the season of 1990 91. After the end of this wonderful and successful ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Humor In Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom When we think of the genre comedy, our immediate thought is usually movies that generate gales of laughter such as Airplane (1980) and The Naked Gun (1988) or great performances by comedians like Charlie Chaplin and Steve Carell. Yet, humor can make its presence felt in movies that are not archetypally included in the genreof comedy. In this essay, I will shed light on the use of comedic elements in one such movie, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984). I will begin by citing specific examples from the movie, with references to the three theories of humor. Subsequently, I will discuss how humor impacts the implicit meaning of the film. In a comedic manner, the respective items keep slipping from the grasp of the desperate duo. Willie comes in close range of the diamond before a bucket of ice cubes tips over and surrounds the diamond, much to the amusement of the audience! Clinical nurses and unit managers should foster a team approach that encourages shared governance, ownership of practice, and the expression of ideas and opinions in unit councils and committees (Linnen and Rowley, 2014). Nursing must have involvement and leadership from the staff. Over time, lack of engagement from the team ends in decreased quality of care and staff turnover. More emphasis should be seen on empowerment and work atmosphere suggestions. This greatly influences staff retention. • 11. Analysis Of The Movie Last Year Last year, the Hollywood film Noah was released. Obviously I was intrigued, so I called up my Pastor and some friends and planned to go to the cinema to see it. As many sources claimed, I can agree that this is certainly one of the least Biblical, Biblical films ever made. Of course the actual story of Noah in the bibleis not very long, so it was to be expected that the producers would add some filler Hollywood action, but how much of Noah is actually based on the text that appears in the Old Testament, and how much is fantastical movie magic? Just like the Old Testament, the film starts at the very beginning. Noah tells his children the story of creation and almost stays true to the Genesis story of creation. To begin I will explore the characters presented in the film and the original story. The movie introduces two groups of people, Lemech and Noah the good guys and Tubal Cain and his people, the evil men, who are of course descendants of Cain, which is consistent with the Old Testament. Later, the character Methuselah is introduced, Noah s grandfather. He lives on the top of a mountain and for some reason has a constant craving for berries (The Bible says nothing about this strange detail). He also seems to posses some mystical powers. Methuselah isn t mentioned much in the Bible, but he is the oldest documented person mentioned in the book. Lemech, Noah s father, is only brought up in the Bible for genealogy purposes. To report that the company Mondelez International, Inc. Evaluation Of A Performance Assessment Evaluation of a Performance Assessment: edTPA James (Monty) Burger Texas A M University Evaluation of a Performance Assessment: edTPA Teacher effectiveness is of the utmost importance to ensure student success. However a valid and reliable performance assessment to evaluate teacher effectiveness has historically remained elusive. Recognizing this need, Stanford University developed the edTPA (formerly Teacher Performance Assessment) to specifically measure teacher readiness/effectiveness. Out of 1,808 portfolios (which were double scored independently) the scorers assigned either the same or adjacent scores with total agreement in nearly all cases (93.3%). While that speaks well for the scorer reliability, as far as appropriate sampling for validation and norming the edTPA appears to fall short. There are several mentions of small sample sizes and differences in group sizes preventing any strong generalizations or conclusions. Some sample sizes are as large as several thousand while others fewer than 10, creating the opportunity for instability. Reliability The next condition that should be closely reviewed when evaluating a performance assessment is reliability (Rudner, 1994). As discussed above the inter rater reliability for the edTPA seems to be very reliable. Ten percent of portfolios are randomly double scored to examine scorer rates, and the results provide evidence of high total agreement. According to the 2014 edTPA Administrative Report the overall reliability coefficient across all fields was 0.923, indicating a high level of consistency across the rubrics, establishing that the rubrics as a group are successfully measuring a common construct of teacher readiness. This began as early as the Sumerian period and even today is still used. Although these methods have been used for thousands of years, different styles emerged when looking at different periods but this does not go to say that cultures never have not adopted certain styles and methods from others. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the most beloved hero gods is Herakles, or Heracles as the romans and current culture pronounces it. According to greek mythology Heracles is the son of Zeus and the greek woman Alcmene, this makes Hercules a half god. He was the result of Zeus affair which ironically earns him the hatred of Hera Zeus wife . She attempted to murder him as a child by sending two serpents into his crib, but he was so strong that he strangled both; one in each hand. Hera goes on to hate Heracles as grows older. In the black vase painting Herakles and Cerberus, it shows Heracles last labor being complete. Hercules final labor was to kidnap Cerberus, the guardian of the underworld and bring him to king Eurystheus. He was given this task because returning from the underworld was impossible, so for Heracles to return with Cerberus shows how powerful he was. This vase was painted during the Archaic Period in 530 525 B.C. as greek because of its qualities. The Greeks liked symmetry and the decorations on this vase follow the shape and so does the two figures; when looking closely they both are slightly leaned forward following the curvature of the vase. There is also a hierarchical scale, Heracles is larger than the king signifying he is more important and powerful. Unlike Rameses in egypt, the Greeks saw their gods as above the people. Something the Egyptians and Greeks did have in common is how they gave their religious and political divine figures muscular bodies. Both cultures did this because big muscles are associated with great power. It was and still is the ideal of a perfected body. Also in this black figure painting the chest are facing forward toward the viewer just like in the egyptian wall paintings. • 16. Why Is College So Expensive If Students Are Paid So Little... A Response to Michelle Chen A teacher has one of the most difficult and highest demanding jobs in society. They are responsible for educating the future and giving their students the best chance to succeed. However, many teachers and professors are not paid nearly as much as the demands placed on them should indicate. Michelle Chen, in her piece from The Nation titled, Why Is College So Expensive if Professors Are Paid So Little?, attempts to analyze the current issues with professors wages in college and provide possible solutions. Although Chen presents some solid ideas, her work suffers from her failure to address why college is so expensive, her inability to provide more than one solution, and her overreliance on emotional aspects of the conflict. In her essay, Chen states a few problems that can hardly be argued with: college is far too expensive and professors are paid much too little. She focuses mostly on adjuncts, or part time professors, as it is in this area that many of the problems reside. She writes, With student debt and tuitions both ballooning across the country, a college degree is in many ways more expensive or overvalued today than ever. Unfortunately, she fails to provide in depth analysis on why college is so costly to begin with. It is because of this shortcoming that Chen s work is much weaker as a whole. Firstly, her title becomes misleading, and makes her a possibly untrustworthy source. Secondly, her failure to acknowledge the reasons why college is so expensive cuts off an entire possibility of solutions. Addressing where all this money is being spent could provide an easier and stronger solution than the one Chen provides. When discussing a topic such as this, there are an abundance of possible solutions that are worth taking a look at. Michelle Chen, however, only decides to closely examine one: unionization of faculty. She says, [Layfield] hopes that organizing with her union for a fair contract can ensure future generations of faculty will face a richer career horizon. While unionization is certainly not a bad idea, Chen puts too much focus on this one solution. She fails to even acknowledge other possible solutions, such as making cuts in administrative budgets ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As I look at this model, one question comes up: What if a similar oil price run up occurs again, followed by more recession, and even more reduction in lending? Governments are already spending far more than they take in. The high spending already in place, and the large gap between revenue and expenditures, makes it clear that there is not much room for a repeat stimulus program. • 21. Plato s Reflection About Love And Beauty Plato s Symposium is a group of written dialogues in which Plato records speeches from many distinguished men regarding love. One of these men, Socrates, tells a story in which he recalls a conversation he had with Diotima on the subject of beauty. Although Diotima and Socrates made some interesting points concerning the concept of beauty, in a modern interpretation, this passage can be easily read as homophobic. With the incorporation of heteronormative metaphors, the use of a male and a female narrator, and the promotion of what could be classified as unhealthy relationships, Plato s approach to beauty should not be used in a modern setting due to the dated homophobic concepts. In Plato s Symposium, he describes the concepts of love and beauty using extremely heteronormative metaphors. Finally, Plato promotes unhealthy same sex relationships, rather than healthy ones, in his Symposium. Although many of these concepts are not overt actions of homophobia, they are still important to acknowledge as homophobic, especially as they are an impactful part of Plato s Symposium. So often, the old adage, History always repeats itself, rings true due to a failure to truly confront the past, especially when the memory of a period of time sparks profoundly negative emotions ranging from anguish to anger. In her novel, Beloved, Toni Morrisonexplores the relationship between the past, presentand future. While inclusion helps fulfill the federal mandate of IDEA, it also has a profound impact on the students with disabilities themselves as well as general educationstudents and teachers. The first reason I am recommending Inclusion is because, simply put, it is the law. Even though the word inclusion is not a part of the language of the IDEA, passed in 1975, the mandate of Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) is, and it can be successfully accomplished through inclusion (IDEA Basics: LRE Video). I am grateful to my discussants, Takatoshi Ito and Chung Mo Koo, and other conference participants for comments on an earlier draft. I. Introduction Perspectives among economists on the usefulness of fiscal policy as a device for macroeconomic management have moved back and forth over the years. For example, one might wish to announce that the ITC would be eliminated in the future, to spur investment today, but once the future arrived, and today s investment had already taken place, 2 it might no longer be optimal to repeal the credit. Hence, in addition to the policy lags that made the implementation of policy difficult, one was confronted with two major additional obstacles: first, to figure out how to evaluate potential policies and, second, to recognize that agents react not to policies that are announced, but to policies that are expected. To these three hurdles, policy lags, model instability, and dynamic inconsistency, the literature added several others. There was, of course, the problem that estimates of behavioral responses to fiscal policy were just that estimates of parameters, not the parameters themselves. Even with a stable model, i.e., one based on exogenous taste and technology parameters, uncertainty about model parameters militated against activism, as shown by Brainard (1967). Moreover, determining the right behavioral model is a difficult task, given that all models involve simplifying assumptions, and some models of household and firm decisions suggested that fiscal policy changes would be ineffective. For example, there has been a long debate in the investment literature about the importance of the user cost of capital as a determinant of investment, relating to such ... History of Film Exhibition Prior to 1927 While the actual films produced during the silent era of American film production and distribution are frequently discussed and analyzed, both as primary historical documents and important cultural contributions, the actual practice of exhibiting and viewing those films gets somewhat less attention. Prior to 1927 (the year when sound films first emerged onto the national stage), movie exhibition in the United States was still growing into the massive industry it represents today, and it reflected in the films being produced. By examining the history of filmexhibition prior to 1927 in general, and the experiences of Denver and New York in particular, it will be possible to understand how the medium s nearly thirty year existence prior to sound was characterized by a chaotic, open ended exhibition system that nevertheless predicts the gradual takeover of exhibition by a few large chains. To begin it is necessary to note that there was some precedent for the exhibition of films even before the medium was created, because by the time film became widely known in the 1890s, phonographs had been set up in the arcades found in the heart of bustling cities, where for a few cents customers could select various music and speeches, which they listen to through individual ear horns (Gomery 4). Towards the end of my paper, I will connect the significance of the case to African Americans disproportionally having fatal encounters with police today. The legacy of the case puts greater importance on the Supreme Court verdict, a decision during the early African American Civil Rights Movement in the United ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. James Van Der Zee and Scott Shuman s Contributions to... Everything changes and evolves over a period of time. New insights and discoveries propel us down a fresh path. The old ways are replaced by something different; however, in order to fully appreciate the current we need to revisit the past. To really understand the origin of anything you need to know about its founders and how it has evolved to where it is today. The roots are the core and provide us insight on how things originated. Photography has been around for a long time and there are many people who have contributed to the discipline. There are two individuals from different generations who have made a huge contribution in how the field is regarded. The first person I want to talk about who had a big influence on the photography community was a Harlem Renaissance street photographer James Van Der Zee. He captured the life, culture, fashion and daily life during this vibrant era (Biography.com). Van Der Zee first started to develop a passion for photography at a young age taking pictures for his high school. At the age of 30 Van Der Zee s photography became more than a hobby; it blossomed into a lifelong career. During this period he spent time developing skills in darkroom studios and soon opened his own office, which was called Guarantee Photo. He eventually renamed his workplace GGG Studio, after his second wife, Gaynella Greenlee (Biography.com). During the 1920 s and 30 s Van Der Zee focused his efforts on photographing the people of Harlem including all ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Negative Effects Of Radiation The word radiation means several things such as radio waves and light. When such types of radiation travel through substances, it can become charged electrically. When it is also in a tissue that is living, the ions that were produced by the radiation can affect biological processes (IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency), n.d.). There are several ways people are exposed to radiation, including x rays, radiation used to diagnose diseases and for cancer therapy, nuclear explosive testing that goes wrong, small quantities of radioactive materials released into the environment from coal and nuclear power plants, etc. (IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency), n.d.). The radiation that is emitted from cell phones, X raymachines, and nuclear power plants are very different. They are all energy, but the difference is that unlike the others, cell phones are not radioactive, and harms the body, unlike the others (Ornes, 2011). The phones operate by altering your voice into a radio wave, which it dispatches with an antenna that it also uses to receive the radio waves from the other line, which it changes to a voice that the user can comprehend. Since the radio waves are also a type of radiation, if the user s phone is close to the user s head, the tissues can absorb the radiation, which hasn t yet been confirmed, but could later on be the cause of a brain tumor or disease, since the use of cell phones didn t start until about 15 years ago (Ornes, 2009). Studies show that spending 50 minutes or more with an active phone near your ear increases harmful brain activity because when cell phones are actively working, the radiation they emit could hurt you, after years of using a cell phone. Although there is a lot of evidence that suggests that cell phones are harmful, scientists, are still not completely sure (Ornes, 2011). SAR (Specific Absorption Rate) is the rate measurement of how much radiation your body s tissues can absorb when you are using a cellphone. The SAR for a cellphone is set for a limit of 1.6 watts of energy absorbed per kilogram of body weight (Highest and Lowest Radiation Cell Phones, 2017). • 42. Chickenpox and Its Epidemiology Chickenpox and its Epidemiology Grand Canyon University Concepts in Community and Public Health Nursing NRS 427V February 20, 2014 Chickenpox and its Epidemiology Chickenpox is a viral infection caused by the Varicella Zoster Virus (VZV) transmitted via the respiratory route that causes itchy, blisters like rashes usually lasting about 5 10 days. It is highly contagious transmitted by person to person contact (direct) from respiratory secretions or indirectly through contact with airborne respiratory droplets, via soiled inanimate objects infected by discharge from skin lesions, vesicle discharges or nasopharyngeal secretions. The incubation period lasts about 10 21 days and the disease is communicable 1 2 days ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This contributes to the development of chicken pox in individuals who don t have health insurance or is an illegal immigrant, they will be less likely to participate in primary prevention and more likely to delay obtaining medical treatment. Some barriers to health services that contributes to the development of the disease includes high cost, lack of availability or in the case of vaccine shortage mostly seen in developing countries and limited language access. These barriers can cause unmet health needs and inability to receive preventative services. Individual behavior as a determinant of health plays a major role in health outcomes. Individual behavior consists of diet, physical activity, hand washing and compliance with vaccine preventable diseases. This factor contributes to the development of chickenpox when individuals refused be vaccinated and do not have natural immunity against the disease. Therefore in an epidemic of chickenpox these individuals have a higher risk of contracting the disease. Biological and genetic factors affects specific populations more than others. An example of a genetic determinant of health is Sickle Cell Disease which is a condition characterized by the offspring inheriting the disease because both parents carry the sickle cell gene. In the case of chickenpox there is no biological or genetic factors that contributes to a person developing the disease as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Theological Understandings of Mediated Grace Theological Understandings ofMediated Grace When approaching the concept of grace, many people often assume that it is other a mysterious force that exists beyond human understanding. They believe that grace is a divine gift that cannot be humanly grasped because of its supernatural nature. Others believe that mediated grace God as experienced through the senses in a purely human manner is a vital way to bridge the ontological gap (an extreme difference in being that separates the earthly and the divine). Christian theologians from the beginning of the faith have debated the qualities attributed to this phenomenon because of its sheer importance; when dealing with vastly different elements, such as humans and God, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While most theologians agree upon the existence and importance of mediated grace, they often disagree upon the exact nature of its role. What this conflict yields though, is not a sense of discord and disunity, but a greater appreciation of the immense horizon of grace as perceived by humanity. Perhaps the most obvious example of this is the clash between Martin Luther and the tenets of the Roman Catholic Church (represented here by their Decree on Justification that was presented at the Council of Trent). Luther saw grace as the way to salvation, while the Catholic Church intimated that grace itself was salvation. In his treatise on Christian Liberty, he said very great care must always be exercised so that no man in a false confidence imagines that by such works he will be justified or acquire merit or be saved; for this is the work of faith alone. [8] He referred to this kind of grace as alien righteousness, which he claimed was instilled in us without our works by grace alone. [9] Unlike the Thomistic precepts that the Council of Trent was working from (Aquinas s theory of deification), Luther did not believe that grace affected an ontological change in the person. On the other side, the Trent decree maintained that One truly merits salvation through good works in grace. [10] Luther felt ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Arguments Against Vegetarianism Albert Einstein once said, Nothing will benefit human health and increase the chances for survival of life on earth as much as the evolution to a vegetarian diet. Many enlightened and intelligent people have along with Einstein come to realize that the problems Americans face with health and the environment can be solved with simply partaking in the more compassionate lifestyle accredited to the vegetarian movement. Americans should adopt vegetarian dietsbecause they are more beneficial to one s health, more sustainable for the environment, and more ethical than the standard Western diet. Adopting a vegetarian diet has exceptional health benefits that can t be ignored. For instance, in the article Why Turn to Vegetarianism, award... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We protect our bodies as well of the bodies of the animals approximately 20,000 of them per minute in the U.S. alone who are brutally raised and slaughtered for their flesh and excretions. Animals are intelligent, loving, and very much deserving of life. Humans have come to think that they own every animal on the planet and can extort, exploit and execute them at no cost except $5.99 a pound. However, there is a much greater cost to the meat on America s plate millions of animals lives. Furthermore, in the same article, Melanie Joy states, Animals are routinely castrated, de beaked, and de horned without any painkiller whatsoever. They are born and raised in crowded, filthy, dark environments where their existence is one of abject misery and terror. Animals are sentient beings with nervous systems and thought processes. The pain and suffering animals in commercial farming must endure preceding their murder is harrowing. • 45. Bury The Dead Sparknotes In 1936, the playwright Irwin Shaw synthesized the groans of a restless generation on the brink of a subsequent, devastating war into an ominous work of art. Bury the Dead, his expressionistic anti war agitprop, successfully sympathizes with the lost youth of that war generation, while also pointing a dark finger at those who perpetrated the conflict. In addition, the play stands at the pinnacle of early sardonic propaganda. In Shaw s time, the grim reality of a second world war provided his inspiration. In today s time, another grim reality rises up to inspire a new string of creative art. James Davison Hunter, a political sociologist, declared in his 1991 book, Culture War: The Struggle to Define America, that America was embroiled in a war of opinion and social differences that had irreversibly polarized the country (Hunter). This war could be as deadly to American unity as the Second World War was to the indomitable spirit of the American doughboy (Shaw). In light of this comparison, Bury the Dead holds a new, yet equally poignant meaning as a collection of political pundits, burgeoning party control, and narrowly biased media draws deep battle lines between this country s people. A transposition of Bury the Dead s pre war setting to a modern, eerily comfortable juxtaposition of war and American culture would respect the original themes while presenting a meaningful study on the current division in America. This approach would also maintain the expressionistic value of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Argumeative Essay Hasty Generalization When writing an argumentative essay, there are certain debate skills that different writers like to use. However, there are also many poor choices in writing that many people make, known as fallacies. These fallacies can damage the argument presented in ones paper, whether it is used on purpose or not. One big example of a fallacy is known as Hasty Generalization . People use hasty generalization when they make assumptions on a whole group of people, based on only a small sample. For example, if somebody went to a Texas Roadhouse and received terrible customer service from their waitress, and then wrote about how awful Texas Roadhouses waitresses are, he/she would be using hasty generalization. That person would be giving his opinion of the company as a whole, based only on one waitress at one restaurant. In an argumentative essay, your argumentwill not be very strong is you are using this fallacy. Another common fallacy, especially in marketing and commercials, is Appeal to Authority . This fallacy is used when somebody uses a well known person to help convince the audience of their view. Although this trick may work in advertising,it should be avoided when writing. Just because Joe Keery says Dominos Pizza is the best does not make it true. If, however, somebody quoted a professional who has done real ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Maybe somebody states that in 2004, crime stated increasing in New York, and Facebook also launched in 2004, so Facebook must be the reason for the increase in crime. • 47. Essay On Keynes Vs Hayek Keynes vs Hayek The Commanding heights video takes us to the economic disaster that arose in the aftermath of World War One. Following World War One two young economists emerged that hoped to solve the world s economic troubles, John Meynard Keynes and Friederich Hayek. Each having a completely different philosophy in the role of government in the economy. Keynes theorized that heavy government influence was essential in the economy, and many of his principals were implemented in Franklin Roosevelt s New Deal policy which helped pull America out of the Great Depression. On the other hand Hayek insisted that the lesser of a role government played in economicsthe better. He argued that socialist states cannot be successful because they lack a functioning price system to send the signals to consumers and producers, thus inducing a chaos. Keynes was a British economist who is credited for being the father of macroeconomics. The foundation of Keynes theory relies on government playing a strong and fundamental role in the economy. To be put simply Keynes theory is that the government can borrow money to spend on such things like public works. By doing so the government would create jobs...
