characteristics included unity of mood, continuity of rhythm and melody, and most
compositions, in the middle to late Baroque period, included polyphonic textures

Red and green and gold and orange dance across crisp autumn sky, moved along on
the currents of a steady breeze. Sunlight filters through leaves that still clinging to
the towering Oak and Maple trees along the dirt trail. Little feet pound the ground,
compressing the leaves and sending up puffs of dirt, as a rabbit hops along
through the underbrush. He startles a flock of birds which take flight and voice
their anger at being disturbed with a chorus of shrill cawing. The little rabbit
continues his journey occasionally pausing to rummage around in the leaves, but
finds nothing to his liking and proceeds with his hopping. A sudden noise makes
him freeze in place. Cautiously, he settles onto his hind legs and his pink nose
along with his ears twitch in search of a clue to what might have caused the
disturbance. Having decided that the danger has passed the rabbit hops up onto a
log which spans a babbling brook. He rests there a moment and allows for the
coolness rising from the water to wash over him. After crossing the stream he stops
at the water s edge lapping at the water with his tiny tongue. Once he has had his fill,
he returns to his burrow nestled among a copse sapling maples, deep within the

When the plant decides to set seed, our employees have to shear the plants to
encourage the plant to grow. Shearing means cutting the plant back by removing
majority of the plant without interfering with its structure. Pansies love fertilizer but
giving them too much will make the plants weak. So, we only renew their fertilizer

when she fails to decipher the alphabet on the chalkboard. The repetition of this
inquiry not only represents Estrella s confusion with the function and purpose of
tools and letters, but her curiosity and persistency to gain a deep understanding of the
confusing and foreign knowledge of tools and letters that only she seems to lack.
Furthermore, since she is specifically wondering about both tools and letters, the
two are compared to each other and form a connection that is fleshed out later in
the passage. Estrella constantly seeks after the secret behind the power of tools and
words even if she is silent with rage at the fact that the adults in her life keep it
hidden from her. Even though she is quite eager to learn, her teachers don t jump at
the opportunity to expand her knowledge or equip her with the essential tools to
progress in life since they are more concerned with her migrant status and dirty
appearance. The secret that words are the tools for success which remains hidden
from Estrella, causes her to remain confused and hostile at the beginning of the text.
