Nucleophilic Substitution Reaction Lab Report
Substitution Reactions, Purification, and Identification Introduction (Q:1 2) An unknown
(nucleophile) was subjected to SN2 reaction when combined with benzyl bromide (electrophile) in
a sodium hydroxide (base) solution. The experiment provided a clear understanding in conducting
nucleophilic substitution reaction where heat must be applied in order for the SN2 reaction to
move forward. The goal was to determine the unknown by incorporating knowledge of polarity, the
laws of physics, and the role of energy when forming crystals; like dissolves like , matter cannot be
created nor destroyed . (Q3:Techniques) Melting point, recrystallization, and thin layer
chromatography (TLC) mediated the ability to find which unknown nucleophile was provided...

This was concluded by combining information on melting points and TLC; melting range narrowed
when filtered product was mixed with the standard product. Also, the Rf value of the pure product
is closely related to the Rf value of the standard. TLC of filtrate showed no movement of the
substance in the mixture under 9:1 ratio declaring the substance to be extremely polar. Of the three
potential unknown reactants, 4 methoxyphenol would be the most polar and therefore would travel
least up the TLC plate. (Q14:Yield) 81.2% product yield was collected. Matter cannot be created
nor destroyed , therefore some product could have filtered through. TLC of filtrate confirmed
remnants of product present. Filtering the filtrate could have increased the yield. (Q15:Recovery)
The percent recovery of the product makes sense because it is the mass of the crystallized product
divided by the crude product: 94.9%. The percentage reflects the mass of pure product (without the
presence of impurities). (Q16:MP) Melting point coincides with the unknown nucleophile being 4
methoxyphenol because when the standard product was combined with our pure product, the
melting range narrowed. When compared to the melting ranges obtained when mixed with the other
two possible products the melting ranges significantly decreased and widened. This is often an
indication of impurities being present, but because this was a

The Invisible Man Essay
The Invisible Man, by H.G. Wells, is composed of many small themes that combined to form two
major themes in the novel. Some of the minor themes are acting before thinking and denial of
unexplainable events. It is based on the two major themes of science experiments gone wrong and
the ignorance of society.
The most important theme in the novel was the experiment that Griffin, the invisible man, was
working and it was not going exactly as planned. The way that the experiment went bad was not
by accident; instead it was Griffin who had made the mistake of turning himself invisible. The
reason that the invisible man had for becoming invisible was that he was suspected as to be a
vivesectionalist and he did not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The people could see his footprints and see him if he became dirty. Another thing that Griffin did
not realize before his experiment back fired was that he could not eat if he wanted to stay
invisible. The people around him could see the food inside his stomach, until his body absorbed it.
The experiment that Griffin went through was his own fault and also sealed his own fate. The
major problem with his invisibility was that Griffin was not able to keep or have any friends. His
only contact was after he was all bandaged up and looked as though he had been in a bad accident.
Without any human contact or support Griffin was destined to become crazy. In the ending
chapters of the novel it is obvious that Griffin has lost his mind and is completely insane.
Not wanton killing, but a judicious slaying. The point is, they know there is an Invisible Man as
well as we know there is an Invisible Man. And that Invisible Man, Kemp, must now establish a
Reign of Terror. (Pg. 114)
The previous quote was taken as the invisible man was talking to Kemp about his plans of
judicial killing. This proves that Griffin has gone completely insane and it is his way of getting
back at society for excluding him. He does not realize that if he had never made himself invisible
nothing like this would be happening.

Fit Dna Lab
The FIT DNA (cologuard) is the last stool test that is available for colorectal testing. The FIT
DNA test combines the FIT with a test that detects altered DNA in the stool (CDC, 2017). The
FIT test requires the entire stool sample to be sent to the lab for testing. No cards or poking the
stool are required, only the stool sample itself. The cologuard test can be done in the privacy of
your home and does not require a bowel prep, diet changes or time off from work (Exact Sciences,
2017) The FIT DNAtest is recommended to be completed every three years. Positive results are
recommended to be followed up with a colonoscopy. Medicare covers this test at no cost beginning

Medicare covers this test beginning at age 50 or older (no co insurance, co pay or Part B
deductible) when it is done for screening only. In some cases this screening method begins as a
screening tool and turns into a diagnostic measure. If the health care provider performing the test
identifies any polyps or cancerous lesions that require removal and biopsy, the individual will be
charged co insurance or co pay for the diagnostic testing (ACS, 2017 ). If a precancerous polyp
or colorectal cancer is found, a colonoscopy would be required to visualize the entire colon to
detect other polyps or cancer (ACS, 2017). The USPSTF (2016) found the benefit of this testing
is less beneficial when it is done alone compared to when it is combined with an annual FIT. The
availability of flexible sigmoidoscopies has declined in the United States (USPSTF, 2016).
Colonoscopy
The colonoscopy is similar to the flexible sigmoidoscopy, however, this scope is inserted into the
anus and through the entire colon. It is recommended to get a colonoscopy every 10 years who
are at average risk and every two years for those at high, such as individuals with IBD or
HNPCC (ACS, 2017). Before the test occurs a bowel prep at home is done in order visualize the
lining of the colon during the test (ACS, 2017). Specific instructions regarding medications, bowel
prep and eating before the night before the test will be determined by the health care provider

Nursing Roles Involved In An Inpatient Setting
Surgery, whether elective or emergent, is a stressful, complex event. Today, as a result of advances
in surgical techniques and instrumentation as well as in anesthesia, many surgical procedures that
were once performed in an inpatient setting now take place in an ambulatory or outpatient setting.
Approximately 60% of elective surgeries are now performed in an ambulatory or outpatient setting
(Russell, Williams Bulstrode, 2000). This trend has increased the acuity and complexity of surgical
patients and procedures. The number of surgical patients admitted for overnight hospitalstays is
expected to continue to decrease. Perioperative and perianesthesia nursing addresses the nursing
roles relevant to the three phases of the surgical experience: preoperative, intraoperative, and

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) defines an SSI as an infection that occurs
after surgery in the part of the body where the surgery took place. Maintaining surgical asepsis in
the operating room is one of the most important protocols of any medical unit. Breaking surgical
asepsis subject the patient to several risks such as infection, temporary or permanent complications
related to the procedure or the anesthetic, and even death. Surgical asepsis is absence of
microorganisms or spores in the surgical environment. The goal of aseptic technique is to protect
the patient by preventing or minimizing postoperative infection by creating conditions and
following procedures to prevent the introduction of microbial contamination to sterile fields, sterile

Minimum Legal Drinking Age
Young adults drinking under the age of 21 only has negative impacts on today s society and will
only get worse by lowering the minimum legal drinking age. Currently, the legal drinking age in
the United States is 21 years old and it should stay that way. Reason being, that only positive results
have come from making the minimum legal drinking age21. These positive results include lower
costs, less alcohol related car crashes, and avoiding other dangers like unwanted pregnancy and
young adults being unable to defend themselves while under the influence of dangerous characters.
At the age of 18, you may be considered an adult, but you do not have all of the rights that a 21
year old holds. Also, with the minimum legal drinking age of 21,... Show more content on

Underage drinking actually costs the United States a lot of money. In 2007, underage drinking
cost the U.S. $68 billion or $1 for every single drink consumed (Haynes, Melodee). You may ask,
how can this be? Well to get to our total of $68 billion, first, there are the medical bills from
accidents related to the consuming of alcohol underage which totaled to about $7.4 billion. Also,
$14.9 billion from income loss and $45.7 billion from pain and suffering which totals to $68
billion, the total amount of money spent towards this issue (Haynes, Melodee). Since lowering the
drinking age will increase car crashes, insurance rates will rise because of higher premiums from
traffic accidents or convictions for driving under the influence. Other things that may cost you
money are the unwanted pregnancies from teens being drunk and having unprotected sex. This
will either lead to an abortion, which costs money, or you will need to take care of the baby, which
can cause an endless amount of money. Also, the child could be born with fetal alcohol syndrome
(FAS) which would add even more expenses for treatment. The treatment for sexually transmitted
diseases that you may also get from having unprotected sex costs a significant amount of money.
Lastly, the largest expense of them all is the life of a

Louisa May Alcott is the author of many novels written back in the nineteenth century. Her most
successful books, and the books she is most known for is the Little Women Series . These books
consist of: Little Women , Little Men , and Jo s boys . In these books Alcott shows the same
writing style and each of the different books share the same theme and ideas. In Alcott s book Little
Men, (one of the three in the Little Women series) the theme is that nothing is impossible. This
theme is supported by three points in the novel. These points are that anything is possible even

to control his behavior and become a successful young man. At the end of the book Alcott writes
how the most successful crop , was Dan that he overcame his demons and became a wonderful

own way. (377). Dan came to Plumfield as a hopeless (but doable) experiment who broke the
rules and introduced poker, drinking, and smoking to a group of boys at Plumfield. Even
though Dan was a big handful Jo never gave up on Dan because she saw past the rough outer

hold the fundraiser at a mall due to the high influx of people shopping there. All the items that I
gathered for the fundraiser were all donated by my classmates at school. So when three friends
of mine and I set up our stand for the fundraiser, we were stopped by mall security. They stated
that it s against mall regulations for a fundraiser to take place without the permission of the mall
owner. Plus, we were fined $200 by the mall for attempting to commit an action against
regulations. The fact that we were fined such a high figure really put my friends and I down.
However, I did not stay de motivated for long, as I immediately set up a meeting with the mall

Analysis Of Philippa Gregory s Three Sisters Three...
Three Sisters, Three Queens, a historical fiction novel written by Philippa Gregory, takes place in
16th century Europe, an era characterized by powerful monarchs whose personal and political life
are incredibly complex and intertwined. In particular, this story focuses on three women who will
become the queens of Scotland, France, and England, respectively: Margaret, her sister, Mary, and
their sister in law, Katherine of Aragon. The story is told from Margaret s point of view, who
provides a unique yet often disregarded female perspective of this era intended to demonstrate that
these ruling women are just as important to history as their male counterparts, namely Henry VIII
and James IV. The novel is centered around two types of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It would spoil everything if Mary s is French cut or more richly embroidered, or more fashionable
(293 294). Her superficial nature and blatant sense of entitlement resulting from her privileged
upbringing becomes almost comical, especially as she is so heavily concerned with her
possessions even while her country is engulfed in both civil war and war with England.
Nevertheless, Margaret still does mature with age, as she and her sisters come to realize that
they should be working together rather than separately: We spent our time admiring and
envying each other and we should have been guiding and protecting each other (544). Ironically,
on that very same page Margaret expresses delight over her sisters misfortunes: I am in a better
place than both my sisters. I cling to this little joy, as stubborn as when we were girls jockeying
for supremacy (544). Margaret s fickle nature embodies her time period, where many of the
monarchs share similar competitive desires and betrayal is commonplace. On an even grander
scale, Gregory highlights a natural human flaw and defies the idea of a perfect protagonist. Even
though Margaret changes for the better, a little part of her young and selfish self will always
remain within her. Margaret is not always a likable character, but she is certainly a relatable one,
whose experiences to achieve power and happiness teach her that she should have confidence in
herself and her sisters to defy gender norms

Gritty Realism In David Milch s Deadwood
Loved it or hated it, HBO s series Deadwood burst upon the television screen and drew immediate
attention and critical acclaim. David Milch s portrayal of the Old West characters in one of the
last gold mining camps in South Dakota shocked and enthralled viewers for three seasons. For all
the show s fame and fandom, there s still quite a few things most people don t know about
Deadwood.
Historical
Milch wove historical times, places and people in with fictional plots to produce the gritty
realism of Deadwood. Many of the characters were based on real people, including Al
Swearengen, Seth Bullock, Sol Star, A.W. Merrick, Wild Bill Hickok, E. B. Farnum, Calamity
Jane, Wyatt Earp, Jack McCall, George Hearst and Charlie Utter.
Shakespearean Overtones
One often heard question about HBO s Deadwood was, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An average prospector could mine $25 a day in gold, a lot of money for the times. However,
prices were high, and the food, equipment and tools a miner needed would swiftly extract most of
that gold from his pockets. Drinking, gambling and whoring took the rest.
Without an End
All plans for either a fourth season or a final movie or two two hour specials fell through, so
Deadwood s plot and characters were left dangling with no finale. HBO went on to other
productions and David Milch began developing John from Cincinnati, his next project. While HBO
offered to produce a truncated ending for Deadwood, Milch turned down the deal.
Fiction and History
Thoughout the series, David Milch s creative mixology of history and fiction staged scenes
showing what almost happened. For instance, in the show, when Will Bill Hickok came to the
camp, Seth Bullock and Sol Star were there to see his arrival. In reality, Will Bill had been in
Deadwood for two weeks before Bullock and Star showed up, arriving the day before Jack McCall
killed Hickok.

Boyle s Law And Scuba Diving Techniques
Even though there may be other laws that are just as important to know, Robert Boyle created a
law named Boyle s Law that has important relevancy to anyone who is a scuba diver. Knowing
the breakdown of how Boyle s law works allows for safe practices and scuba diving techniques.
Many instructors train, and make sure they teach their students the law, to prevent life threatening
circumstances. It is crucial to know, who created the law for legibility, how the law works
scientifically, and its relationship to scuba diving.

Oppositely, if the gas decreases in size the molecules will subside and the pressure will drop. (Hess,
2016) In order to understand this mathematically, and get the approximate value, p (pressure) and v
(volume) = the k (constant) this is shown as PV=k and if comparing the same matter with different
conditions the equation is demonstrated as P1V1=P2V2. (Hess, 2016) This will give you an
approximation in numbers, if the volume, and or pressure, has either increased or decreased.
Knowing this has contributed to the understanding of how much oxygen to give and how the body
reacts while scuba diving
Scuba divers trained well on knowing Boyle s law, and how the body reacts while underwater,
could prevent possible life threatening circumstances. In any scuba diving safety training,
Boyle s law is used as a primary example of the physiological reaction that the body will go
through while underwater. A primary example that most scuba divers are trained on in relation
to Boyle s law is that a balloon pushed underwater, for example, shrinks as its volume is
compressed (2014). Conversely, a balloon inflated underwater and released expands and may
burst as it rises and its volume expands (2014). At sea level the pressure is at 1 atm (760mmHg),
which is 14.7 pounds per square inch and because seawater is less dense a diver is exposed to a
much higher pressure (Meeraus, 2001). This means that the lower the diver descends

World Systems Theory By Sociologist Immanuel Wallerstein
In the perspective of world systems theory, the United States is considered a core country, whereas
the global South (Africa, Latin America, and evolving Asia including the Middle East) contains a
multitude of peripheral countries. With such extensive poverty impeding the progress of countries
within the global South, it is possible that the United Statescan provide effective assistance.
However, an explanation must be presented to express how these core countriesand peripheral
countries become just that, in order to determine how they can change their status. This paper
intends to address how countries grow, how the US can aid the global South in the struggle of
poverty, and the possibility of altering trade policies to eventually... Show more content on

When it comes to sovereignty, there are two types: internal and external. Internal sovereignty occurs
within your borders, whilst external sovereignty is when other countries recognize this total
autonomous power that has accumulated. Wallerstein agreed with the concept of less borders and
more commonalities. He theorized that the core and the periphery should think and act more as a
whole rather than different parts, as those parts affect the outcome of the same machine. Therefore,
it would stand to reason that if the United States were to assist the global South in reducing
poverty, that it would actually be beneficial for the system as a whole.
US aid: In the current world economy, core countries such as the US go through increases in
wages, employment, and general prosperity. However, when this phase comes to an end, it is the
peripheral countries that bear the burden. (Wallerstein, 30) For example, let s say that the US
produces a product. The production of this good does quite well, until there is a tipping point,
otherwise known as an overproduction . The product is manufactured at such a high rate that it
surpasses the actual demand for said good. Due to the surplus, the prices become more competitive
and continue to decline, which means that there is less of a profit. So, core countries then outsource
their production processes to

Why Surveillance Is Important
Surveillance occupies a major portion of the typical private investigator s day, and is one of their
most important tasks. Here are a few hints and tips for any new or aspiring private investigator to
help improve their surveillance skills:
It s not exactly thrilling sitting all night in your car checking on someone who says his recent
accident means he is house bound, while the insurance company suspects the claimant is still
running a night time taxi business from home. A colleague who specializes in this type of
investigation says that, instead of sitting up all night waiting to see if the person is working nights
on the taxis, he places a small coin on the top of the rear tyre of the car, then goes home to bed. If
the coin is still there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But don t do this too regularly, in case the technique actually draws the attention you seek to avoid.
Investigators in quiet areas like villages and parks will find a dog a useful ally. After all, a man
out walking his dog can retrace his route, walk off the beaten track, and stop and stand still for a
couple of minutes, without making anyone curious.
The successful investigator never looks his subject in the eye; not for long periods, that is.
Sunglasses even if they are a bit of a clichГ© in detective movies are a good idea in appropriate
places and at particular times, as they mean you can look without giving the game away. At night or
in the middle of winter, however, they are certain to attract suspicion!
On a similar theme, never point your car directly at a subject. Park facing the other way, and watch
your subject through the rear view mirrors.
Finally, be patient. Softly, softly, catchee monkey Charlie Chan advised. And a large American
detective agency adds to its promotional literature: We do nothing quickly .

of gender perspectives in policies and programmes. The idea behind this would be to take into

states unanimously agreed in Beijing 1995 Fourth World Conference on Women that, It was
essential to design, implement and monitor, with the full participation of women, effective, efficient

Uneven Playing Field
I have decided to write a response paper to Michael Sokolove s The Uneven Playing Field. The
ideas that Sokolove has presented in this article was very interesting and I agree with him. I will be
relating Sokolove s article with overspecialization and how is it harmful to younger athletes, injury

As mentioned by Sokolove on page two, ... we increasingly ask more of young athletes,

we ask this of boys and girls equally unmindful of physical differences. The pressure to

all kids. I agree with Sokolove s quote because overspecialization can harm the social, emotional,

UTI (Universal Technician Institute), and Wyotech University which are both great places to get

I will be going to their main school in Charlotte, North Carolina. Once I m there I will take a racing
technician class which is around 15 weeks long, and that puts me right into the seat of racing.
After researching some more I found out that if I am in the top 5 students of the racing program,
I get the opportunity to be picked up and hired by an actual racing company such as Porsche,
Ford, Mercedes, Chevrolet and maybe even McLaren, and get to work for them which would be
an honor. But even to get that opportunity I have to start somewhere, and I feel like UTI is a
good place for me to start. At UTI the learning environment looks like a collage campus from the
outside, but on the inside it is one big garage full of all types of cars. The teachers are all certified
automotive technicians and master mechanics; they will teach me everything I will need to know.

Mill believes in the praxis of pleasure to accumulate the zenith of happiness, but with the absent of
pain. Motivation is irrelevant when regarding morality, because the result of one s actions
determines the morality, which is why utilitarianism is often referred to as consequentialism. This
philosophy is synonymous to a democracy in the sense that the majority hold the moral weight, One
should act so as to promote the greatest happiness to the greatest number of those who will be
affected by the act. There are two parts which constitute pleasure by mills standards, intellectual and
bodily. Bodily pleasures are those that are stimulating to animals, because it does not involve the
intellect. Humans, however, have facilities that are more evolved than that of nonhumans, so the
intellectual pleasures are more appealing to humans. Intellectual pleasures are of more value than
bodily. He compares the stimulation from the intellectual pleasures to that of an ethereal plant,

Summary Of Letter From Birmingham Jail By Elizabeth Costello
For almost any right movement, or important period of time, in the history of the world, there are
readings that will correlate with these movements. For example, during the Civil Rights Movement
there was Letter from Birmingham Jail by Martin Luther King Jr., for the feminism movement,
there was Riot Grrrl Manifesto, and so many more important readings that go along with important
movements. These readings all have one common thing in common, they call for action in some
part of the movement. In The Lives of Animals by J.M. Coetzee, there are some points made by
Elizabeth Costello, the main character of the novella that could be used to represent the views that
this group believes in. Elizabeth Costello is a vegetarian, which she strongly... Show more content

Reincarnation is the belief that after one dies they will be reborn into another living being.
Looking at Costello s beliefs from this standpoint, Doniger argues that the Hindus for a while
believed in not eating meat because they had the possibility of being reborn as what they were
eating (i.e. a cow, a pig). Since she looked at it from this viewpoint, it is reasonable to believe
that it is odd for people to be eating what they could become in the future, and they will be spited
for doing so. Along with becoming an animal that they have eaten in their previous life, these
people would eventually become food for other people, and this is where the belief in karma kicks

Houseboat Vacation Essay
Taking a vacation isn t just a way to spend time with your family. It gives you a chance to unplug
and it s good for your health.
One of the most important and overlooked aspects of a vacation is relaxing. People routinely
overschedule their vacations and come back exhausted. A houseboat vacation offers you a way to
avoid the problem.
You spend most of your time out on the water, rather than trying to cram in visits to tourist sites.
Even so, there are some things you must deal with ahead of time to keep your houseboat vacation
as relaxing as possible.
Let s jump in and help you plan for relaxation.
Mind the Weather
Weather is a make or break factor when planning a houseboat vacation. The problem is that weather

Stick with non perishable versions of items, such as non dairy or powdered coffee creamer.
Buy and freeze any meat you want ahead of time. You can pack the frozen meat in styrofoam
containers with dry ice.
Dry ice can damage your skin, so only handle it with gloves or a thick towel. Tape the containers
closed to avoid accidental skin contact.
Stick with fresh fruits and veggies that hold up well at room temperatures, such as apples, carrots,
onions, and potatoes.
Linens and Bedding
Always ask the rental company about linens and bedding when planning your houseboat vacation.
Some companies provide them, some don t, and some only provide them with luxury packages.
If possible, assign each person a color of linen. Figuring out which white facecloth belongs to
which person after three days is almost impossible.
Think you put enough dish towels in your car for the trip? You didn t. Add some more.
Even if you expect warm weather and bring along sleeping bags, include some fitted sheets. The
last thing you want is your face stuck to a vinyl cushion.
Bring Some Entertainment
While a portable DVD player is probably overkill, you will want some distractions

Suburbia Research Paper

Suburbia: America s Self Made Frontier
Thomas Jefferson, America s third president, dreamed of a nation of small farmers living off the
land and believed large cities to be destructive to the morals, the health, and the liberties of man.
However, as the nation grew into the most powerful in the world, its cities followed suit. They
became the social, economic, and political centers of their respective areas. Cities such as Boston,
New York, and San Francisco became the industrial and marketing strongholds of the country.
However, by the 1950s, the American landscape was transformed yet again with the arrival of the
new frontier, Suburbia. Americans migrated from the dirty, crowded, and... Show more content on

Many historians believe that Suburbia promoted discrimination as southern blacks migrated north
during the Second World War and pushed white families to the suburbs. De facto segregation was
practiced in cities through both violent and nonviolent methods. African Americans that moved into
predominantly Caucasian, suburban neighborhoods faced violence. For example, death threats,
vandalism, and physical assaults were employed to stop the integration of communities. Along with
the encouragement of discrimination, suburban living also endorsed a plain and ordinary
landscape. 47% of people favored laws that would keep builders from building houses that all look
alike (Gallup Poll Document #8). Critics believed

Joseph Smith And Ethical Relativism
Ethical Relativism takes the position that morality is relative to time periods, cultures, subcultures
within cultures and time periods (Velasquez, Andre, Shanks Meyers, 1987). Joseph Smith was the
founder of Mormonism also known as The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints, sometime
in 1830 in upstate New York. After God the Father and Jesus Christ appeared to him Joseph Smith
told his mother that he had learned for himself that Presbyterianism was not true (Turner, 2016).
The early members were driven from Ohio, Missouri, and then Illinois on into Utah. Once in Utah,
Mormons spread throughout much of the world (Murphy, 1999). In 1996 there were more than nine
million Mormons worldwide with most of them living outside the United States (Murphy, 1999).
When Joseph Smith wrote the Book of Mormonhe gave the readers new scripture that would
explain racial inequality while he attempted to clear the old paradox between a God who was
supposed to be impartial and the imbalanced relations between European immigrants and the
American Indians (Murphy, 1999). Smith claimed that he translated the Book of Mormon from
an ancient Hebrew record that was engraved in Egyptian characters that he found buried in a
hillside in upstate New York (Murphy, 1999). In the book Smith explains the right of the white
people to rule over the dark skinned people. Smith associated having dark skin with a curse from
God, a person who rejected the truth, filthiness, laziness, illiteracy, and degradation (Murphy,
1999). He wrote about a positive reward to converts among the American Indians that would
include a chosen status as a covenant Israelite from the Old Testament and promises a glorious
future of white skin and the role of leadership in the true church in the last days (Murphy, 1999).
During this time in American history Indians were thought of as savage dark skinned people who
were unequal to the white skinned settlers. Ethical relativism allows us to see that in this time and
in this culture, it was acceptable for the white settlers to have feelings of superiority over the
Indians. We can also understand that the Mormons ethical ideas of wanting to convert the Indians
would allow the Indians to have a positive reward

However, the highest level leagues are in Spain, England, and Italy. Although all those countries
seem far away it isn t as hard as it seems to make it to a team from one of those countries. The
teams from the major soccer leagues send scouts all over the world to give children an
opportunity to play for them, no matter where they play. If the scouts feel someone is good
enough, they will call and put in a good word for a player and more scouts will go watch until
they decide whether or not to give the player a chance. The fact that it doesn t matter if they re
playing on the street or if they re playing organized soccer makes the game more accessible.
By being so accessible to the people soccer becomes a cheap sport. Club teams, which give a
good opportunity to get scouted, don t cost too much money. Some of the best club teams will
cost one thousand dollars total, with trips to tournaments included. However, those clubs aren t

Artificial Intelligence technology is outpacing the must needed regulation that is paramount in the

to see any realism in this film, like it was scripted instead. As said previously, a convincing piece of
propaganda shows the viewer hope, but also reality, and in the film, it looks anything but realistic.
In Night and Fog it was an appropriate design the way the switched from color to black and
white. I got two different meanings from this. 1) We live today in our present environment in a
world filled with color. We don t go through hunger, torture and our dignities aren t taken from us.
The black and white represents to me other people around the world which still today are going
through similar times as these victims in this film went through. 2) The theme in on which the
comparison is about the past and the present was very clear. The same pathways which were filled
with the blood of the victims were now all buried under the ground. The color represented the
present and the black and white represented the past.

Introduction: Cells contain a number of different organelles, specialized structures living within
cells(Mcallister and Leicht 2017). When a cell tissue is grinded down and mixed into a soupy
mixture, the organelles can be separated using a process called centrifugation. The soupy mixture is
placed in a centrifuge which spins the mixture at high speeds. This results in the denser and heavier
organelles ending up in the bottom the the tube which is called the pellet. The lighter and less
dense organelles remain in the liquid portion called the supernatant. This process can be repeated

because it is lighter and less dense when compared to nuclei and amyloplasts but more dense than

The Role Of Gap Years Essay
The role of gap years to earn a higher education is a controversial idea. Many people feel it is
important to take on Europe s natural participation in the gap year after high school. For
countless years, Europeans have practiced gap years before college to help a graduate grow.
Prince William of Europe took his beneficial gap year, helping the idea to spread to America
(Kelly para. 1) British influences have been leading America to a stronger future, and taking a gap
year after high schoolis now being adopted by the States. Certain students participating in the gap
year enhance their emotional and physical states before entering college. Also, some believe that
taking a gap year will influence the student to reject a higher education. On the other hand, taking a
gap year after high school can be expensive, but the experiences you receive from it are priceless.
Based on these different perspectives, I most closely agree with the fact that taking a break from
school before jumping into a higher educationcan help a graduate grow and find themselves.
Many people believe taking a gap year after high school will discourage a higher education
because the student is not likely to go back to school after taking a break. Due to this thought,
parents of new graduates are not openly supportive of gap years. Cases of students who take a gap
year and do not pursue a higher education are the ones thrown into the spotlight. The wide concern
of students giving up their

Concealed Carry Permits in The United States
In most recent years one of the biggest political arguments has been about firearms. When talking
about firearms, both sides can get very into the disagreement and emotional on the subject. With the
increasing amounts of mass shootings, this topic has been in mainstream media and talked about
largely for the better half of the last six years. When it comes to the argument the Democratic party
stands on stronger gun laws that will lead to more regulations and less gun sales, while the
Republican party leans the other way with less regulation and more legal gun owners. The
democrats say that the less guns on the street, the less gun violent related crimes. On the other hand

Many feared the laws that could have been put in place. In eleven states at least 10 percent of the
adults possess carry permits (French). The total in the last two years has also taken a large jump
from 12.8 million to 16.36 million Americans with carry permits. This number is also not 100%
accurate considering the fact that 14 states have passed laws stating that you do not need a permit
to carry a firearm. This will increase the total number of Americans carrying firearms, but there is
no way of telling because there is not an official listing. With the increase in concealed carry
permits, there has also been a large increase in firearm sales. From 2008 to 2011, there were
about 14 million firearms sold in the United States, while over 20 million were sold between
2012 and 2013, and about a quarter were sold to first time buyers (Howell). With the number of
first time buyers on the rise it shows that the United States is leaning towards a more right look at
firearms. A 2000 Gallup Poll found that 35 percent of Americans thought that owning a gun made
their home safer. By 2014 that number soared to 63 percent (Howell). This goes hand and hand
with the increase of firearm sales and concealed carry permits. The change when a person starts

Financial Bubbles
Financial bubbles occur within the United States economy, and trends in investments cause rising
and falling within the economy. In the early to mid 2000s, the housing market took center stage
for Wall Street investments. According to the podcast, Wall Street investors wanted increases in
investment returns, and the housing market became the prime source of these new, bigger returns.
A chain of command started as banks decided to indirectly cash in on these mortgage loans. As
people defaulted on loans due to rising interest rates, this very large contribution of the economy
collapsed, and a recession of the late 2000s caused people to lose their jobs. This American Life
gives a detailed account of the recession of the late 2000s brought on by the housing market, and it
suggests how new trends in economic investing can... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Mike Patton s article in Forbes, he cites the dethroning of cash, the falling of the
global economy making US stocks more attractive, and the rising of intangible assets . (Patton, The
Coming Financial Bubble) Because the United States economy still reigns strong compared to other
nations, stocks look attractive to investors looking for investments with substantial returns with
relatively low risk. Patton also cites the lack of better alternatives for investments, which I also
agree with. Bond investments have less appeal because of falling interest rates, globally, and within
the US, leading the way for stock market investments to become the next bubble. After the recent
ending of the house market bubble, stocks are starting to look more and more attractive to
investors, and as new industries, such as social media, technology, and new sustainable energy, are
rising and continue to attract investors, a new bubble will occur. This could have dire
consequences, as the stock market is extremely important to the strength of the American

Chapter 5 QUESTIONNAIRE DESIGN AND SCALE DEVELOPMENT
Naresh K. Malhotra, Georgia Institute of Technology
Introduction
This chapter describes the importance of a questionnaire and presents the process for developing
questionnaires and observational forms. Guidelines for questionnaire construction are provided at
each stage of the process. In addition, commonly used scaling techniques and use of questionnaires
in experimentation are discussed and the design of observational forms is presented.1
What Is a Questionnaire?
A questionnaire is a formalized set of questions for obtaining information from respondents. The
overriding objective is to translate the researcher s information needs into a set of specific questions
that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are exceptions to this rule. Filler questions may be added to disguise the purpose or
sponsorship of the project. For example, in brand studies, a researcher may include questions about
the full range of competing brands so that the respondents won t know who is sponsoring the study.
Early in the interviewing process when the researcher is attempting to build a relationship with
respondents and capture their attention, a few easy to answer neutral questions may be helpful. At
times, certain questions may also be repeated for the purpose of assessing reliability or validity.
Are Several Questions Needed Instead of One?
In some cases, two questions are better than one. However, asking two questions in one is not the
solution. Consider the following question:
Do you think JC Penney offers better variety and prices than other department stores stores?
(Incorrect)
A yes answer will presumably be clear, but what if the answer is no ? Does this mean that the
respondent thinks that JC Penney does not offer better variety, that it does not offer better prices,
or that it neither offers better variety nor better prices? Such a question is called a doublebarreled
question because two or more questions are combined into one. To avoid confusion, these questions
should be asked separately,

The Significance Of Physical Education Essay
The Significance of Physical Education in American Schools
Review
Hommes, Tiffany J., Bemidji State University, USA
Background Many children in America do not receive the needed amount of physical activity
needed to maintain a healthy weight. Approximately17% of children are obese (Robert Wood
Johnson Foundation, 2016) and one in three children are overweight or obese (American Heart
Association, 2016). This is a local and national emergency that needs to be addressed to keep
children healthy, prevent morbidities, and control the costs that are associated with being
overweight or obese. Pre diabetes, type 2 diabetes, and hypertension in children is at an all time
high. However, research indicates that only 3.8 percent of American elementary schools provide
daily physical education (Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, 2007). This paper will discuss the
importance of daily physical education in our schools. There is an abundance of support to
provide daily physical education in our schools. First Lady Michelle Obama is leading a
national initiative called Let s Move to reverse the childhood obesity epidemic. One of the
initiatives in Let s Move is to increase physical activity (Let s Move!) In fact, Healthy People
2020 has objectives to increase the portion of the America s private and public schools that require
daily physical education (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services 2011). There is also a
national initiative, the FIT Kids Act of

Sexual Harrasment Essays
Sexual Harrasment The issue that I have chosen to research for the policy and procedures team is
sexual harassment in the workplace. The present policy contained in the associate handbook states
the following: Sexual harassment can take many forms. It includes unwelcome sexual advances,
requests for sexual favors, and other visual, verbal, or physical conductof a sexual nature when a
person s employment with Sears depends on submissionto the conduct; submission to or rejection

The second way states Title VII says employers cannot discriminate with respect to the conditions of
employment. The company s definition of sexual harassment is similar to the one that I found in my
research on this issue.
The area that our company may want to look into is how an associate can prevent sexual
harassment. Some of the key points are: how you dress, don t do social service tasks, and avoid
courtship behavior. The area of dressing to go to work may cause sexual harassment if the
associate does not watch what they are wearing, associates should dress appropriately for the
office. The next area is concerned with social service tasks such as getting the person lunch or any
non work related activity. This will cause you owe me on and may lead to other things. The last
area pertains to avoiding courtship behavior, which is non verbal communication. People may take
this the wrong way and the results can lead to comments or actions that would interrupt the work
place. These points can be related back to the associate during the focus meeting.
The last area the policy and procedures team can look at is how the management can improve the
way they handle sexual harassment in the work place. Luckily, this company hasn t had to make
many reports. Some points to cover are: to keep work quality high, get respect for the associate
and keep a diary of sexual harassment reports. Keeping the work

Arguments Against Propaganda In Elections
With the elections approaching, it is now time to concentrate on how we want to introduce you.
It is critical that you earn the highest amount of votes possible so that your place in the office is
secured. With in your ads, there should be strategies to influence the voters decisions, like
testimonials/ endorsements, stacking the deck, plain folks, negative or attack ads, glittering
generalities and guilt by association/coat tailing. With these strategies stated, I have decided
which one to use by evaluating the amount of information, effectiveness, and ethics so that we
can achieve the largest figure of votes and prevent your opponent from winning. This criteria
demonstrates which forms of campaign propaganda work the best. Campaign is the form of
rivalry that candidates use in the hope of winning the elections and posses a seat in office.
Propaganda is advertising used to change the point of view of either a buyer or voter. Additionally,
a plan to obtain a certain goal is a strategy. Upon the one million dollars this campaign has for
advertisement, I have determined that $100,000 should be given towards testimonials
/ endorsements, $300,000 to plain folks, and the highest amount of money, $600,000 to stacking the
deck. A great way to connect to voters is by using testimonials/endorsements, which is why I claim
$100,000 should go toward this strategy. In the 1984 election for the spot of vice president, Walter
Mondaleand Geraldine Ferraroused the names of groups on buttons to show support for... Show

Wet Rub Vs Grill
There are two traditional methods for seasoning meat destined for the grill: wet and dry.
Choosing one over the other places you on one side of yet another barbecue debate. As with
most culinary debates, both sides have some strong arguments as we will see when we compare
these two methods of flavoring meat. What is the difference between a dry rub and a wet rub?
As you might expect, dry rubs have only dry ingredients. They will typically include powdered
spices and sometimes dry herbs along with salt and sugar. The idea is to create a crust for the
meat that will flavor it without making it too moist. You should apply the rub liberally to the
outside of the meat and massage it in. The longer you let it sit on the surface of the meat, the
more flavor it will impart to the meat. Because all of the spices stay on the surface, a dry rub is a
great way to add a controlled amount of flavor without overpowering the natural flavor of the meat.

The big difference is that they are placed into a liquid medium like oil or vinegar. You want a
wet rub to be thin enough to easily coat a piece of meat but thick enough to stick to it. Like dry
rubs, wet rubs should be applied heavily to the surface of the meat. Is one easier or better to use
when grilling? Dry rubs are easier to apply and generally less messy to work with than wet rubs.
In addition, a dry rub will not drip onto your coals and cause flare ups or lower their temperature.
Wet rubs have advantages in that meat should be more tender and flavorful, especially if you let it
sit in the marinade for at least 24

Animal Farm Torture
Torture for Traitors and Prizes for Partisans
In the fable Animal Farm, George Orwell expresses a clear representation of the Russian
Revolution in the form of animals on a farm rebelling against the leaders, pigs. Napoleon s
treatment of the animals is dependent on the way Napoleon perceives the animal s dedication. If
they accept his leadership they receive their basic needs; whereas, if they rebel against him, their
basic needs are not met. This results in all the animals accepting Napoleon s leadership in order to
receive their fundamental needs. This is only possible if Napoleon has followers that will
aggressively support him or even die in order for Napoleon to succeed. Through Old Benjamin, the
hens and the pigs viewpoints on Napoleon s tyranny, it is easily identified which animal supports
Napoleon s way of ruling the farm, which oppose him and which animal simply has no opinion.
The pigs on Animal farm are among the most loyal supporters of Napoleon s tyranny, which
provides them with their basic needs and more. The pigs have no reason to be afraid of
Napoleon because since they are on his side, he will always treat the pigs well. This is exemplified
when ...the milk and the windfall apples (and also the main crop of apples when they ripened)
should be reserved for the pigs alone. (Animal Farm, Page 26). Furthermore, the animals that
support Napoleon are treated better and provided with more than their basic needs. This treatment
shows the other animals that

Recommendations for Nike
NIKE Executive Summary by Lawrence Gimeno Recommendations: Make it count My first
recommendation is directed at Nike s push into digital sports. In my opinion the new
accelerometer based Nike+ technology is the birth of a whole new generation of Nike products
and an amazing innovation to motivate people to include sports into their everyday life. Nike has
attained a leading role in almost every one of the upcoming world wide sporting events, such as
the 2012 Olympics, the 2012 Soccer Euro Cup, the NFL Superbowl, the 2014 Soccer World Cup
and the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Therefore the time is now for Nike to embed
their customers and the fans of these major sporting events in the experience through their new
technology.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Looking at Nike s current flagship products and their presentations (NFL jerseys, Nike FlyKnit,
Nike+ Technology it is obvious that the company is trying to move in the same direction as one
company who mastered this strategy Apple. Furthermore I think that publicly announcing these
new product presentations and staging them in an interactive and fancy way as well as making
them available for live streaming around the world on Nike s website or Facebook would
quickly educate the potential customer and create the same kind of demand like Apple is
enjoying for their iPhone, iPad and Mac product lines. Right now Nike is working on the
development of a self lacing shoe as seen in the movie Back to the Future 2 worn by the
character Marty McFly . The company has acquired 65 patents in the process of constructing the
shoe. The release of the shoe is rumored to take place in 2015, the year in which the movie takes
place. Personally I see three potential outcomes of this move by Nike. First of all, this technology
is applicable to the athletic footwear products as well and could revolutionize the fit of athletic
shoes, giving Nike a further advantage over it s competitors by owning a product that is very hard
to emulate. Secondly it boosts the brands aura and identity significantly, which leads me to my next
point of Nike maybe moving into the fashion industry with this cult object. However Nike has not
yet confirmed any of this strategies.

Middle School Is Not The Easiest Time
Gnome Good
I don t believe that I will ever be able to forget middle school. For me, middle school was not the
easiest time in my life. I had just moved to a new town and I wasn t the best at making friends.
Trying to form new friendships, while also starting middle school was not an easy task. I had just
started the sixth grade at a new school, with new faces, new classrooms, and a new teacher. I had
a typical schedule for a sixth grader, nothing too difficult. Social Studies, Science, Gym, Math, and
my least favorite, English. Although I enjoy English now, I can t say that I always have. At that
point in my life, English was something that I was not great at and thought I would never be great

Yet, Dweck states, if you get a failing grade, you think, I m nothing, I m nowhere . In other words,
Dweck believes that students that do not receive the grade they want, immediately consider
themselves failures. The concept of failure is prominent in an excerpt from On Writing, by Stephen
King, a popular writer from Maine. King states, Now that I was away from the administrative
offices of Lisbon High, I felt able to muster a little honesty. I told Mr. Gould that I didn t know
much about sports . In making this statement, King leads us to believe that he is afraid of failing.
Similar to Dweck s idea of fixed mindset, King presents a fixed mindset towards his ability to
write about sports. King is afraid of failure and is, therefore, presenting a fixed mindset towards his
writing capabilities.
Even as an 11 year old in middle school, I struggled with the idea of failing, and I believe that is
why I was so afraid to have my narrative critiqued. I could not accept failure.
Interesting , she said as she read my story. This makes absolutely no sense; you have gone from one

remarked, Courtney, this is gnome good!

teacher.

Fat Taxes Are Not The Answer
Fat Taxes Are Not The Answer
Although Fat taxes could discourage consumers from eating foods that aren t good for them, they
should not be implemented. Making citizens pay unnecessary taxes is most definitely not the
answer. Reality is that obesity can be caused by many different factors other than the consumption
of unhealthy foods. Factors such as genetics, mental health, lack of exercise and poor portion
control, play a far more important part in maintaining a healthy weight. Therefore, losing weight is
an individual process that can t be tackled with such a simplistic approach.

Fat taxes are simply taxes implemented on any foods or drinks the government considers unhealthy,
and whose consumption is related to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Merely, obesity is a complex issue that needs to be addressed differently. Promoting portion
control, lifestyle changes and exercise would be a far more effective way of combating obesity,
than making hard working Americans pay additional pointless taxes.
Another Sin Tax
Yes, Fat taxes are basically the government s attempt to make profit while censuring and
governing our choices. In the journal of legal medicine Fat Taxes: The Newest Manifestation Of
Age Old Excise Tax, Creighton (2010) points out that The ability to tax should not be used to
bring total social change in a free society. Currently, we pay taxes on alcohol and tobacco products
on what the government calls an attempt to discourage individuals from participating in such
activities, but as we do individuals still do. The reality is that the government in someway secretly
favors these types of behaviors because they generate large amounts of revenue.
Fat taxes are not about decreasing harm to our society. They are just way of making us feel like
the government cares about us, while they extract money out of our pocket. Hence, Fat taxes are
the new sin tax. Accepting such a tax would be like letting the government tell us what we can and
cannot eat and to some extend it would be an offense to our country s free institution. Instead of
condemning people for eating certain types of foods, that some of us enjoy

How Does Unification Of Language Cause Conflict
Another way in which language can prevent or resolve a conflict is by its role in nationalism
that implies a process of unification. Unification can either be the cause of a conflict because
your local identity is attacked or be the cause of a resolution because, inherently, people are setting
apart their differences and coming together into a nation. In the process of building a unified
nation, a unified language must appear as well. Smith (1998), argues that the unification of
language, for example, is a political act as well as a waract as long as it oppresses local identities
and this may be a cause of conflict. The process of unification can be a war act as Smith states
because you are being conquered. Your language and identity are being stripped off you and that
can cause confrontation. However, the same unification process has a self implication of bringing
together places that were once separated for different reasons which constitutes a conflict resolution
method. People are putting aside their differences in order to have a nation. The differences donВґt
disappear but a new rhetoric about... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When we think of a conflict there must be at least two opposing sides. Nationalism is a way of
making this problem between two parties one that involves two complete countries. The individual
differences disappear and the problem is now a binary one with extreme opposing sides, each being
the whole people of each country as they are united under nationalism. Language in nationalism also
lets us trace the border between two communities, language marks out a community because it is
the primary means of communication (Smith, 1998, 28). International conflicts can arise because
of this impossibility to communicate effectively and the division this creates. So, language in
nationalism contributes to conflicts because it creates the difference between the opposing sides
and makes the conflict one that involves all the

NextGen is a tremendous, historic shift to revamp the U.S. air transportation system. This all
embracing initiative integrates new and existing policies, procedures, and technologies, including
satellite navigation and advanced digital communications. Two major parts of this upgrade and
modernization include, but not limited to, Standard Terminal Automation Replacement System
(STARS) and En Route Automation Modernization (ERAM). These systems enable NextGen
capabilities in all phases of flight and safety. STARS for instance, replaces multiple automation
systems for controllers who provide control services to pilots in terminal airspace and the airspace
immediately surrounding major airports. Additionally, ERAM combines flight plan information
with surveillance data from Automatic Dependent Surveillance Broadcast (ADS B), Wide Area
Multi lateration, and radar to automate many air traffic control functions. Other parts of ERAM
include, System Wide Information Management (SWIM), which provides the digital data sharing
backbone of NextGen. SWIM also connects producers and users of data with a common language
and single point of contact to access aeronautical, flight, and weather information. ADS B sends out
broadcasts of an aircraft s position, altitude, and velocity to a network of ground stations that relays
the information to air traffic control displays and nearby aircraft that are equipped to receive the
data. Each component delivers specific capabilities to provide integration and smooth traffic flow to

  • 2. Nucleophilic Substitution Reaction Lab Report Substitution Reactions, Purification, and Identification Introduction (Q:1 2) An unknown (nucleophile) was subjected to SN2 reaction when combined with benzyl bromide (electrophile) in a sodium hydroxide (base) solution. The experiment provided a clear understanding in conducting nucleophilic substitution reaction where heat must be applied in order for the SN2 reaction to move forward. The goal was to determine the unknown by incorporating knowledge of polarity, the laws of physics, and the role of energy when forming crystals; like dissolves like , matter cannot be created nor destroyed . (Q3:Techniques) Melting point, recrystallization, and thin layer chromatography (TLC) mediated the ability to find which unknown nucleophile was provided... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This was concluded by combining information on melting points and TLC; melting range narrowed when filtered product was mixed with the standard product. Also, the Rf value of the pure product is closely related to the Rf value of the standard. TLC of filtrate showed no movement of the substance in the mixture under 9:1 ratio declaring the substance to be extremely polar. Of the three potential unknown reactants, 4 methoxyphenol would be the most polar and therefore would travel least up the TLC plate. (Q14:Yield) 81.2% product yield was collected. Matter cannot be created nor destroyed , therefore some product could have filtered through. TLC of filtrate confirmed remnants of product present. Filtering the filtrate could have increased the yield. (Q15:Recovery) The percent recovery of the product makes sense because it is the mass of the crystallized product divided by the crude product: 94.9%. The percentage reflects the mass of pure product (without the presence of impurities). (Q16:MP) Melting point coincides with the unknown nucleophile being 4 methoxyphenol because when the standard product was combined with our pure product, the melting range narrowed. When compared to the melting ranges obtained when mixed with the other two possible products the melting ranges significantly decreased and widened. This is often an indication of impurities being present, but because this was a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Invisible Man Essay The Invisible Man, by H.G. Wells, is composed of many small themes that combined to form two major themes in the novel. Some of the minor themes are acting before thinking and denial of unexplainable events. It is based on the two major themes of science experiments gone wrong and the ignorance of society. The most important theme in the novel was the experiment that Griffin, the invisible man, was working and it was not going exactly as planned. The way that the experiment went bad was not by accident; instead it was Griffin who had made the mistake of turning himself invisible. The reason that the invisible man had for becoming invisible was that he was suspected as to be a vivesectionalist and he did not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The people could see his footprints and see him if he became dirty. Another thing that Griffin did not realize before his experiment back fired was that he could not eat if he wanted to stay invisible. The people around him could see the food inside his stomach, until his body absorbed it. The experiment that Griffin went through was his own fault and also sealed his own fate. The major problem with his invisibility was that Griffin was not able to keep or have any friends. His only contact was after he was all bandaged up and looked as though he had been in a bad accident. Without any human contact or support Griffin was destined to become crazy. In the ending chapters of the novel it is obvious that Griffin has lost his mind and is completely insane. Not wanton killing, but a judicious slaying. The point is, they know there is an Invisible Man as well as we know there is an Invisible Man. And that Invisible Man, Kemp, must now establish a Reign of Terror. (Pg. 114) The previous quote was taken as the invisible man was talking to Kemp about his plans of judicial killing. This proves that Griffin has gone completely insane and it is his way of getting back at society for excluding him. He does not realize that if he had never made himself invisible nothing like this would be happening. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Fit Dna Lab The FIT DNA (cologuard) is the last stool test that is available for colorectal testing. The FIT DNA test combines the FIT with a test that detects altered DNA in the stool (CDC, 2017). The FIT test requires the entire stool sample to be sent to the lab for testing. No cards or poking the stool are required, only the stool sample itself. The cologuard test can be done in the privacy of your home and does not require a bowel prep, diet changes or time off from work (Exact Sciences, 2017) The FIT DNAtest is recommended to be completed every three years. Positive results are recommended to be followed up with a colonoscopy. Medicare covers this test at no cost beginning at age 50 to 85 years of age with a low risk and no symptoms of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Medicare covers this test beginning at age 50 or older (no co insurance, co pay or Part B deductible) when it is done for screening only. In some cases this screening method begins as a screening tool and turns into a diagnostic measure. If the health care provider performing the test identifies any polyps or cancerous lesions that require removal and biopsy, the individual will be charged co insurance or co pay for the diagnostic testing (ACS, 2017 ). If a precancerous polyp or colorectal cancer is found, a colonoscopy would be required to visualize the entire colon to detect other polyps or cancer (ACS, 2017). The USPSTF (2016) found the benefit of this testing is less beneficial when it is done alone compared to when it is combined with an annual FIT. The availability of flexible sigmoidoscopies has declined in the United States (USPSTF, 2016). Colonoscopy The colonoscopy is similar to the flexible sigmoidoscopy, however, this scope is inserted into the anus and through the entire colon. It is recommended to get a colonoscopy every 10 years who are at average risk and every two years for those at high, such as individuals with IBD or HNPCC (ACS, 2017). Before the test occurs a bowel prep at home is done in order visualize the lining of the colon during the test (ACS, 2017). Specific instructions regarding medications, bowel prep and eating before the night before the test will be determined by the health care provider ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Nursing Roles Involved In An Inpatient Setting Surgery, whether elective or emergent, is a stressful, complex event. Today, as a result of advances in surgical techniques and instrumentation as well as in anesthesia, many surgical procedures that were once performed in an inpatient setting now take place in an ambulatory or outpatient setting. Approximately 60% of elective surgeries are now performed in an ambulatory or outpatient setting (Russell, Williams Bulstrode, 2000). This trend has increased the acuity and complexity of surgical patients and procedures. The number of surgical patients admitted for overnight hospitalstays is expected to continue to decrease. Breaking surgical asepsis subject the patient to several risks such as infection, temporary or permanent complications related to the procedure or the anesthetic, and even death. • 6. Minimum Legal Drinking Age Young adults drinking under the age of 21 only has negative impacts on today s society and will only get worse by lowering the minimum legal drinking age. Currently, the legal drinking age in the United States is 21 years old and it should stay that way. Reason being, that only positive results have come from making the minimum legal drinking age21. These positive results include lower costs, less alcohol related car crashes, and avoiding other dangers like unwanted pregnancy and young adults being unable to defend themselves while under the influence of dangerous characters. At the age of 18, you may be considered an adult, but you do not have all of the rights that a 21 year old holds. Also, with the minimum legal drinking age of 21,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Underage drinking actually costs the United States a lot of money. In 2007, underage drinking cost the U.S. $68 billion or $1 for every single drink consumed (Haynes, Melodee). You may ask, how can this be? Well to get to our total of $68 billion, first, there are the medical bills from accidents related to the consuming of alcohol underage which totaled to about $7.4 billion. Also, $14.9 billion from income loss and $45.7 billion from pain and suffering which totals to $68 billion, the total amount of money spent towards this issue (Haynes, Melodee). Since lowering the drinking age will increase car crashes, insurance rates will rise because of higher premiums from traffic accidents or convictions for driving under the influence. Other things that may cost you money are the unwanted pregnancies from teens being drunk and having unprotected sex. This will either lead to an abortion, which costs money, or you will need to take care of the baby, which can cause an endless amount of money. Also, the child could be born with fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS) which would add even more expenses for treatment. The treatment for sexually transmitted diseases that you may also get from having unprotected sex costs a significant amount of money. Lastly, the largest expense of them all is the life of a ... Her most successful books, and the books she is most known for is the Little Women Series . These books consist of: Little Women , Little Men , and Jo s boys . In these books Alcott shows the same writing style and each of the different books share the same theme and ideas. In Alcott s book Little Men, (one of the three in the Little Women series) the theme is that nothing is impossible. This theme is supported by three points in the novel. These points are that anything is possible even though you come from different backgrounds which is portrayed through the character Dan, nothing is impossible even if you learn differently and this is displayed... Dan was not brought up knowing rules and is considered bad when compared to the other children at Plumfield. Even though Dan disobeys the rules most of the time, and gets some of the boy s at Plumfield hurt, it was still possible for him to control his behavior and become a successful young man. At the end of the book Alcott writes how the most successful crop , was Dan that he overcame his demons and became a wonderful young man. In chapter 21 entitled Thanksgiving , Alcott writes, Dan is one who can serve well if the wages are love and confidence, and he has the energy to carve out his own future in his own way. (377). Dan came to Plumfield as a hopeless (but doable) experiment who broke the rules and introduced poker, drinking, and smoking to a group of boys at Plumfield. Even though Dan was a big handful Jo never gave up on Dan because she saw past the rough outer layer and saw that all that he need was a little bit of love and trust. In fact, we should strive to achieve all the dreams we have in our hearts, which is an ideology that I live by. I m only 17 years old, yet I have already found myself interested in many aspects of life. For instance, I taught myself how to play the guitar and juggle. I have continued practicing these talents for the past 5 years. Moreover, I have visited over 30 countries worldwide, which include Spain, Japan, Argentina, plus several states in the USA. Due to my broad international travel experiences, I was able to get knowledge about other cultures and nations, which has not only enhanced my way of thinking but has also enriched the minds... I chose to hold the fundraiser at a mall due to the high influx of people shopping there. All the items that I gathered for the fundraiser were all donated by my classmates at school. So when three friends of mine and I set up our stand for the fundraiser, we were stopped by mall security. They stated that it s against mall regulations for a fundraiser to take place without the permission of the mall owner. Plus, we were fined $200 by the mall for attempting to commit an action against regulations. The fact that we were fined such a high figure really put my friends and I down. However, I did not stay de motivated for long, as I immediately set up a meeting with the mall owner, and after long hours of filing paperwork for confirmation; my friends and I were allowed to hold the fundraiser. After completing that, I realized that I am a determined person when it comes to a matter which is important to me. In the end, the fundraiser raised an outstanding $3000. • 9. Analysis Of Philippa Gregory s Three Sisters Three... Three Sisters, Three Queens, a historical fiction novel written by Philippa Gregory, takes place in 16th century Europe, an era characterized by powerful monarchs whose personal and political life are incredibly complex and intertwined. In particular, this story focuses on three women who will become the queens of Scotland, France, and England, respectively: Margaret, her sister, Mary, and their sister in law, Katherine of Aragon. The story is told from Margaret s point of view, who provides a unique yet often disregarded female perspective of this era intended to demonstrate that these ruling women are just as important to history as their male counterparts, namely Henry VIII and James IV. The novel is centered around two types of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It would spoil everything if Mary s is French cut or more richly embroidered, or more fashionable (293 294). Her superficial nature and blatant sense of entitlement resulting from her privileged upbringing becomes almost comical, especially as she is so heavily concerned with her possessions even while her country is engulfed in both civil war and war with England. Nevertheless, Margaret still does mature with age, as she and her sisters come to realize that they should be working together rather than separately: We spent our time admiring and envying each other and we should have been guiding and protecting each other (544). Ironically, on that very same page Margaret expresses delight over her sisters misfortunes: I am in a better place than both my sisters. I cling to this little joy, as stubborn as when we were girls jockeying for supremacy (544). Margaret s fickle nature embodies her time period, where many of the monarchs share similar competitive desires and betrayal is commonplace. On an even grander scale, Gregory highlights a natural human flaw and defies the idea of a perfect protagonist. Even though Margaret changes for the better, a little part of her young and selfish self will always remain within her. Margaret is not always a likable character, but she is certainly a relatable one, whose experiences to achieve power and happiness teach her that she should have confidence in herself and her sisters to defy gender norms ... • 10. Gritty Realism In David Milch s Deadwood Loved it or hated it, HBO s series Deadwood burst upon the television screen and drew immediate attention and critical acclaim. David Milch s portrayal of the Old West characters in one of the last gold mining camps in South Dakota shocked and enthralled viewers for three seasons. For all the show s fame and fandom, there s still quite a few things most people don t know about Deadwood. Historical Milch wove historical times, places and people in with fictional plots to produce the gritty realism of Deadwood. Many of the characters were based on real people, including Al Swearengen, Seth Bullock, Sol Star, A.W. Merrick, Wild Bill Hickok, E. B. However, prices were high, and the food, equipment and tools a miner needed would swiftly extract most of that gold from his pockets. Drinking, gambling and whoring took the rest. Without an End All plans for either a fourth season or a final movie or two two hour specials fell through, so Deadwood s plot and characters were left dangling with no finale. HBO went on to other productions and David Milch began developing John from Cincinnati, his next project. While HBO offered to produce a truncated ending for Deadwood, Milch turned down the deal. Boyle s Law And Scuba Diving Techniques Even though there may be other laws that are just as important to know, Robert Boyle created a law named Boyle s Law that has important relevancy to anyone who is a scuba diver. Knowing the breakdown of how Boyle s law works allows for safe practices and scuba diving techniques. Many instructors train, and make sure they teach their students the law, to prevent life threatening circumstances. It is crucial to know, who created the law for legibility, how the law works scientifically, and its relationship to scuba diving. In any scuba diving safety training, Boyle s law is used as a primary example of the physiological reaction that the body will go through while underwater. A primary example that most scuba divers are trained on in relation to Boyle s law is that a balloon pushed underwater, for example, shrinks as its volume is compressed (2014). Conversely, a balloon inflated underwater and released expands and may burst as it rises and its volume expands (2014). World Systems Theory By Sociologist Immanuel Wallerstein In the perspective of world systems theory, the United States is considered a core country, whereas the global South (Africa, Latin America, and evolving Asia including the Middle East) contains a multitude of peripheral countries. With such extensive poverty impeding the progress of countries within the global South, it is possible that the United Statescan provide effective assistance. However, an explanation must be presented to express how these core countriesand peripheral countries become just that, in order to determine how they can change their status. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When it comes to sovereignty, there are two types: internal and external. Internal sovereignty occurs within your borders, whilst external sovereignty is when other countries recognize this total autonomous power that has accumulated. Wallerstein agreed with the concept of less borders and more commonalities. He theorized that the core and the periphery should think and act more as a whole rather than different parts, as those parts affect the outcome of the same machine. Therefore, it would stand to reason that if the United States were to assist the global South in reducing poverty, that it would actually be beneficial for the system as a whole. US aid: In the current world economy, core countries such as the US go through increases in wages, employment, and general prosperity. However, when this phase comes to an end, it is the peripheral countries that bear the burden. (Wallerstein, 30) For example, let s say that the US produces a product. The production of this good does quite well, until there is a tipping point, otherwise known as an overproduction . The product is manufactured at such a high rate that it surpasses the actual demand for said good. Due to the surplus, the prices become more competitive and continue to decline, which means that there is less of a profit. So, core countries then outsource their production processes to ... Joseph Smith And Ethical Relativism Ethical Relativism takes the position that morality is relative to time periods, cultures, subcultures within cultures and time periods (Velasquez, Andre, Shanks Meyers, 1987). Joseph Smith was the founder of Mormonism also known as The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints, sometime in 1830 in upstate New York. After God the Father and Jesus Christ appeared to him Joseph Smith told his mother that he had learned for himself that Presbyterianism was not true (Turner, 2016). The early members were driven from Ohio, Missouri, and then Illinois on into Utah. Once in Utah, Mormons spread throughout much of the world (Murphy, 1999). In 1996 there were more than nine million Mormons worldwide with most of them living outside the United States (Murphy, 1999). When Joseph Smith wrote the Book of Mormonhe gave the readers new scripture that would explain racial inequality while he attempted to clear the old paradox between a God who was supposed to be impartial and the imbalanced relations between European immigrants and the American Indians (Murphy, 1999). Smith claimed that he translated the Book of Mormon from an ancient Hebrew record that was engraved in Egyptian characters that he found buried in a hillside in upstate New York (Murphy, 1999). In the book Smith explains the right of the white people to rule over the dark skinned people. Smith associated having dark skin with a curse from God, a person who rejected the truth, filthiness, laziness, illiteracy, and degradation (Murphy, 1999). He wrote about a positive reward to converts among the American Indians that would include a chosen status as a covenant Israelite from the Old Testament and promises a glorious future of white skin and the role of leadership in the true church in the last days (Murphy, 1999). During this time in American history Indians were thought of as savage dark skinned people who were unequal to the white skinned settlers. Ethical relativism allows us to see that in this time and in this culture, it was acceptable for the white settlers to have feelings of superiority over the Indians. Many think of a paranoid doomsday theorist pressing the issue of how he or she believes one day artificial intelligence may destroy humanity while reading the above quote. However, such remarks are not to be taken lightly when relayed by one of the world s most influential men and the leader of the second most powerful military on the planet. A comparison of the films present two very different views of what Hitler deemed necessary for Germany. They each displayed propaganda in a way they re eye catching simply because of the raw footage. It took everything that we knew about pre WWII and corrected it, so that we knew the truth about how the people of Germanyfelt, and what they saw in those exact moments. The task of viewing these films was quite difficult, and although both films seem to be a highly emotional and factual, I believe that Night and Fog was a more superior piece of propaganda. I will... As said previously, a convincing piece of propaganda shows the viewer hope, but also reality, and in the film, it looks anything but realistic. In Night and Fog it was an appropriate design the way the switched from color to black and white. I got two different meanings from this. 1) We live today in our present environment in a world filled with color. We don t go through hunger, torture and our dignities aren t taken from us. The black and white represents to me other people around the world which still today are going through similar times as these victims in this film went through. 2) The theme in on which the comparison is about the past and the present was very clear. The same pathways which were filled with the blood of the victims were now all buried under the ground. The color represented the present and the black and white represented the past. When a cell tissue is grinded down and mixed into a soupy mixture, the organelles can be separated using a process called centrifugation. The soupy mixture is placed in a centrifuge which spins the mixture at high speeds. This results in the denser and heavier organelles ending up in the bottom the the tube which is called the pellet. The lighter and less dense organelles remain in the liquid portion called the supernatant. This process can be repeated many times(Mcallister and Leicht 2017). ... Many people feel it is important to take on Europe s natural participation in the gap year after high school. For countless years, Europeans have practiced gap years before college to help a graduate grow. Prince William of Europe took his beneficial gap year, helping the idea to spread to America (Kelly para. 1) British influences have been leading America to a stronger future, and taking a gap year after high schoolis now being adopted by the States. Certain students participating in the gap year enhance their emotional and physical states before entering college. Also, some believe that taking a gap year will influence the student to reject a higher education. On the other hand, taking a gap year after high school can be expensive, but the experiences you receive from it are priceless. Based on these different perspectives, I most closely agree with the fact that taking a break from school before jumping into a higher educationcan help a graduate grow and find themselves. Many people believe taking a gap year after high school will discourage a higher education because the student is not likely to go back to school after taking a break. Due to this thought, parents of new graduates are not openly supportive of gap years. This number is also not 100% accurate considering the fact that 14 states have passed laws stating that you do not need a permit to carry a firearm. As with most culinary debates, both sides have some strong arguments as we will see when we compare these two methods of flavoring meat. What is the difference between a dry rub and a wet rub? As you might expect, dry rubs have only dry ingredients. They will typically include powdered spices and sometimes dry herbs along with salt and sugar. The idea is to create a crust for the meat that will flavor it without making it too moist. You should apply the rub liberally to the outside of the meat and massage it in. The longer you let it sit on the surface of the meat, the more flavor it will impart to the meat. Animal Farm Torture Torture for Traitors and Prizes for Partisans In the fable Animal Farm, George Orwell expresses a clear representation of the Russian Revolution in the form of animals on a farm rebelling against the leaders, pigs. If they accept his leadership they receive their basic needs; whereas, if they rebel against him, their basic needs are not met. This results in all the animals accepting Napoleon s leadership in order to receive their fundamental needs. This is only possible if Napoleon has followers that will aggressively support him or even die in order for Napoleon to succeed. Currently, we pay taxes on alcohol and tobacco products on what the government calls an attempt to discourage individuals from participating in such activities, but as we do individuals still do. The reality is that the government in someway secretly favors these types of behaviors because they generate large amounts of revenue. Fat taxes are not about decreasing harm to our society. They are just way of making us feel like the government cares about us, while they extract money out of our pocket. Hence, Fat taxes are the new sin tax. Accepting such a tax would be like letting the government tell us what we can and cannot eat and to some extend it would be an offense to our country s free institution. Instead of condemning people for eating certain types of foods, that some of us enjoy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. How Does Unification Of Language Cause Conflict Another way in which language can prevent or resolve a conflict is by its role in nationalism that implies a process of unification. Unification can either be the cause of a conflict because your local identity is attacked or be the cause of a resolution because, inherently, people are setting apart their differences and coming together into a nation. In the process of building a unified nation, a unified language must appear as well. Smith (1998), argues that the unification of language, for example, is a political act as well as a waract as long as it oppresses local identities and this may be a cause of conflict. The process of unification can be a war act as Smith states because you are being conquered. Your language and identity are being stripped off you and that can cause confrontation. However, the same unification process has a self implication of bringing together places that were once separated for different reasons which constitutes a conflict resolution method. People are putting aside their differences in order to have a nation. The differences donВґt disappear but a new rhetoric about... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When we think of a conflict there must be at least two opposing sides. Nationalism is a way of making this problem between two parties one that involves two complete countries. The individual differences disappear and the problem is now a binary one with extreme opposing sides, each being the whole people of each country as they are united under nationalism. Language in nationalism also lets us trace the border between two communities, language marks out a community because it is the primary means of communication (Smith, 1998, 28). International conflicts can arise because of this impossibility to communicate effectively and the division this creates. So, language in nationalism contributes to conflicts because it creates the difference between the opposing sides and makes the conflict one that involves all the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. Nextgen Case Case Study: NextGen Air Transportation System By: Karreem L. Lisbon Embry Riddle Aeronautical University May 2017 Abstract The NextGen Air Transportation System is a complex, revolutionary redevelopment of the broad U.S. air traffic control system that includes many challenging and interrelated components and concepts, including a fundamental transfer from a RADAR, ground based system to a GPS, satellite based system. Its multi year implementation, touches virtually every aspect of aviation operations. As such, it presents many potential human factors challenges that can potentially directly affect aviation safety. Next, I will creatively apply the knowledge of human factors and aviation safety that I have developed over the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... NextGen is a tremendous, historic shift to revamp the U.S. air transportation system. This all embracing initiative integrates new and existing policies, procedures, and technologies, including satellite navigation and advanced digital communications. Two major parts of this upgrade and modernization include, but not limited to, Standard Terminal Automation Replacement System (STARS) and En Route Automation Modernization (ERAM). These systems enable NextGen capabilities in all phases of flight and safety. STARS for instance, replaces multiple automation systems for controllers who provide control services to pilots in terminal airspace and the airspace immediately surrounding major airports. Additionally, ERAM combines flight plan information with surveillance data from Automatic Dependent Surveillance Broadcast (ADS B), Wide Area Multi lateration, and radar to automate many air traffic control functions. Other parts of ERAM include, System Wide Information Management (SWIM), which provides the digital data sharing backbone of NextGen. SWIM also connects producers and users of data with a common language and single point of contact to access aeronautical, flight, and weather information. ADS B sends out broadcasts of an aircraft s position, altitude, and velocity to a network of ground stations that relays the information to air traffic control displays and nearby aircraft that are equipped to receive the data. Each component delivers specific capabilities to provide integration and smooth traffic flow to reduce ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
