Digital Fabrications Architectural And Material Techniques
ARC 5205 Advanced Theory
Professor Neil Leach
STUDENT NAME: Deborah Wintringer Ariosa
BOOK TITLE: Digital Fabrications Architectural and Material Techniques
DATE: 11/03/2016 PAGES READ: 60 87
The book presents the methods behind digital fabrication in a very clear way, the method this
chapter is focused on is folding. For most people folding seems pretty obvious, it is a term often
used in design studios and architectural projects and could be considered a design principle. This
chapter gives us the full range of what folding stands for, how it can be used and shows clear
examples depending in the material employed. The chapter is mostly focused on the material
operation of the folds and only slightly mentions the theoretical concept and formal tactic of folds.
When one adjusts digital designs to work with physical forms a different type of ingenuity is
possible, materials can take shapes and forms never thought conceivable. Folding used in
architecture has helped produce a variety of fascinating work that has indisputably molded
contemporary design. It can turn flat surfaces into a three dimensional one and create structure with
geometry. Folding materials is therefore effective at numerous scales.
A great advantage of folding is how it creates structural stiffness with geometry. When we add folds
onto a planar material, it gains toughness and rigidity. Strategically placed folds enable the material
to potentially span longer distances, the folds also often turn the

Military Ethics And The Military
Military ethics encompass a wide range of things. In the contemporary world, military ethics
include all facets of military behavior, from issuing regular reviews on juniors to relations of those
in the military with civilians to matters related to war. Currently, the world has witnessed
technological advancements in various sectors including the military. Indeed, battles between
different nations have become dominated by highly advanced weaponry especially when developed
nations are involved. It is these developments that have raised concerns over the use of highly
sophisticated and deadly weapons. Military ethics dictate how certain weapons should be used and
circumstances under which the military can use lethal force. Different nations... Show more content

Military ethics, therefore, serve to ensure that only weapons that are universally accepted are
used in war (Gale, 2016). One fundamental principle of just war customs refers to efforts to make
war as compassionate as probable even for the military personnel. The Geneva resolution
principles require that soldiers who lay down their arms during battles be eligible for benevolent
confinement by their imprisoners. The captors are needed to provide them with food, medical care,
and housing. Underlying these ethics is the commonly shared belief that fighter is an impermanent
status overriding an essential common humanity of rivals. Humanitarian concerns over soldiers in
the traditional military morals is demonstrated by attempts to do away with weapons considered to
be inhumane. Such efforts began when the medieval church banned the crossbow since it was
perceived to be too accurate and lethal over long distances. Current world leaders and military
leaders have categorized blinding lasers, hollow point bullets, and the asphyxiating gas as unethical
classes of technology that should not be employed in war. Besides dictating how the military as a
whole should conduct itself, military ethics govern how military personnel should behave. Rules of
conduct provide guidelines to those in the military on standards of behavioral ethics. Those found
culpable of violating the ethics are liable for prosecution under the uniform code of military justice.

Bob Marley And The Destruction Of Racism
Bob Marley
The voice that transcended populations, races, colors and cultures. An advocate for peace, his
music spoke about the destruction of racism and the importance of love and friendship. Born
February 6, 1945, in St. Ann Parish, Jamaica Bob Marley became the first international pop artist
to arise from a third world country, selling over 20 million records throughout his artistic career. As
he took reggae outside the Jamaican borders Bob Marley popularized reggae music world wide,
eventually becoming one of the most recognized figures of the 20th century. Even now almost

Government presented Bob Marley with the Order of Merit, as well a year before his death he
was awarded the Medal of peace by the United Nations. At the National Arena in Kingston more
than 30,000 people came to his memorial to mourn the death of a beloved musician. In 1994 he
was finally immortalized in the music industry by being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of

The Themes Of Animal Stereotypes In The Movie Zootopia
Zootopia
Zootopia (2016) is another spectacular hit from Disney. It is a story about an unlikely hero
accompanied by an even surprising partner who sets out on a quest to solve a investigation
threatening Zootopia. Zootopia explored various themes and used animals as characters to
effectively display important themes such as stereotypes, prejudice and racism all while keeping it a
movie the whole family can enjoy. Zootopia utilises animals to display important themes as
mentioned above and its negative effects on society. Stereotypes played a key role in the movie.
It can be seen in various scenes of the movie, Judy being victim of it quite a lot. Similarly,
prejudice was also demonstrated in the movie with many characters having very false judgements,
but were eventually proven wrong. Likewise, racism was shown, just not to a full extent. The
movie shows us a good example of today s society with the animals portraying us humans.
In Zootopia, many animal stereotypes are explored, most of them which were very false.
Through the movie, various stereotypes were demonstrated in Zootopia. It was a key part of the
movie, Judy and Nick were all victims of stereotypes as with many other animals. The
stereotypes were based on animal s appearances, shape and features. From start to finish, Judy
Hopps was stereotyped for being who she was, a rabbit. On her quest to become a cop, no one
saw her as a suitable cop and stereotyped her for being a rabbit. Everyone viewed her as a dumb
bunny or a carrot farmer bunny and didn t consider her as a cop. Animals also stereotyped her
size, since she is so small they think she can t handle herself. A good example can be seen on her
first day of the work. When Judy first entered to work, she met Clawhauser. Immediately, your
eyes are drawn to Clawhauser, for me, hes very salient. You have this cat who is much bigger in
the centre of the image while Judy is standing, barely visible to Clawhauser as she is so short.
Your attention goes to clawhauser as you notice how much bigger he is compared to Judy. Various
angles are displayed during their inimate conversation. As for the orientation, Judy is looking up
towards Clawhauser, as he is barely visible due to the desk which is

Ecological Roles Of African Forest Elephants
Also, The African forest elephants are, similar to Maxwell s duikers, important dispersers of seeds
through their consumption of fruit [4]. Forest dates in particular are thought of as elephant
dependent, since the seed develops superiorly after going through an elephant s system and
moreover, the decline of elephantpopulations in West African rain forests in Upper Guinea is
correlated with forestdate population declines [4]. Figs are known to be a large food source for
many animal species throughout the rainforest, giving the ability for a wider range of biodiversity
for both plants and animals. This makes the dispersal of seeds by African forest elephants a crucial
part of Ghana s fig population, also creating an impact on other... Show more content on

African forest elephants can also provide ivory for economic profit if maintained in a well
structured system to boost the numbers in its population. Moreover, both species provide their
hides and skins for marketable products for Ghana s consumers. But, for these species of animal to
be useful and have a positive impact for our human population as well, management preparation and
action is needed to be taken to prevent any negative forthcomings.
Policies need to be put into place to effectively change the management of these tropical forest
inhabitants. One option of policy that I strongly recommend would be to change the logging and
deforestation rates along with a different structural aspect to the process. An idea by the
Biodiversity of West African Forests explains that, Many large animals have large home ranges as
a result of fragmentation of forest, the resulting forest patches may be too small to sustain a viable
animal population. Thus for effective protection of plant species and their related animals sizeable
forest tracts are needed. An alternative is a combination of smaller patches connected to each other
with corridors, forming ecological networks [6]. These networks would link the forest reserves and
other cataloged forests. This type of networking strategy is needed so that the passageways can be
used as linkages for both animals and plants to travel throughout more land area so that they can

National Union of Nigerian Students (NUNS) embarked upon deliberate campaigns of fostering
national consciousness and inspiring a strong sense of militancy in the Nigerian people s liberation
struggle (Aluede, 1995; Babatope, 1974). Babatope (1974) and Onwuejeogwu (1991) note that the
students union was born and nurtured in the womb of colonial protest. Hence student unionism was
more of a protest union rather than student union, which was aimed at far reaching changes in the
society. One incident of student unrest in 1960 was essentially due to students dissatisfaction with
government insensitivity to national issues, and its inability to address them appropriately.
Nigerian students aware of the British government s intention to establish a military base in
Nigeria and by so doing perpetuate a neo colonial state, decided to stage a protest against the

Conflict Theory And Social Reform
Abstract Chapter 4, Value Conflict, discusses how American sociologists in the early stages of
Sociology briefly overlooked the conflict perspective because social reform was more popular.
Then the conflict theory became more significant when a link was found in conflict theory and
social reform. Conflict Theorists and the formulation of the value of Conflict Perspective The
conflict perspective is a combination of European and American Sociologist theories of conflict that
was first inspired by Karl Marx. Marx saw how industrialization, early in European society, caused
the conflict theory between classes. Rubington and Weinberg state that Georg Simmel made the
connection between conflict theory and social reform. Simmel... Show more content on

But this dream was not often realized and gained which caused conflict and social problems
because many would result in crimes and violence. The framework for value conflict was
created by Richard C. Fuller and Richard Meyers. They two stated in publications, that all of
social problems with values have a conflict because everyone s values are not the same. This
creates a conflict of interests and there are (3) three stages of the mix of the two: 1.Awareness
2.Policy Determination 3.Reform Fuller and Myers wrote their papers during the Great
Depression and World War II, both equally rough times in American history which created
conflicts at home and abroad for people in general. The conflict theory opposed the notion of
disorganization because what is wrong with individuals expressing how they feel about a subject
that a different group agrees with. Just because two groups have different opinions is not
disorganization in the view of the conflict theorists. This caused critics to suggest that competing
sociologists were not following the guidelines to be value free. This led to the formulation of value
conflict perspective to include the notion that sociologists should concern themselves with society
rather than scientific appearances. Characteristics of the value of Conflict Perspective The
characteristics of the Value Conflict as a perspective are even more clearly laid out than social
pathology perspective

Sports As A Form Of Leisure In Sports
Introduction For many people, attending your favorite NFL team s game or watching it on
television is a form of leisure. Many people view attending and watching NFL games as a source of
leisure as free time because it is a time frame within which you can make your own personal
choices about how to spend it and a source of leisureas recreational activity because it is based on
participation in nonwork activities...it is a recreational pursuit (Russell, 2017, p. 16). Additionally,
viewing a football game provides several qualities of leisure for many people, such as pleasure,
ritual, relaxation, happiness, and freedom.
Football can also be considered leisure as a spectacle. It provides entertainment for many people,
primarily the middle class, and is played in a large stadium with many fans in attendance.
Football is such a popular leisure as a spectacle experience that the NFL accounted for 46 of the 50
most watched broadcasts last fall and in 2014, 70% of TV owners watched some NFL football on
their sets at some point (Feldman, 2016, p. 38).
Many leisure activities that people partake in are dictated by situational factors and demographics,
such as gender. This is evident in football viewership, because ...men and women differ in their
exposure patterns to mediated sports. For most televised sports (i.e. football), men outnumber
women in the viewing audience (Gantz, W and Wenner, L, 1995, p. 60).
The social psychological constructs of perceived freedom and intrinsic

The Pale And Muslim Refugees
The Pale and Muslim Refugees Today The Pale has had a lot to deal with in the past century,
from the Jews to the Muslims. Poland and surrounding areas are constantly struggling with
refugees. In the beginning of the 19th Century it was the Jewish people that part of Europe did
not want to deal with. More recently it s the Muslim refugees that some of the Polish population
are having a hard time with. We will explore the reasons why this is happening , the origins of
the pale, who is behind it, as well as the consequences it is having in the Pale. In 2011 a civil war

The Golden Age In The Elizabethan Era
The Elizabethan era was a time full of superstition and persecution, however it was also the
beginning of a new age, The Golden Age as it is commonly referred to. During this time the
people of England were beginning to progress, in a scientific and artistic way. Music wasn t the
only thing that was developing, science and philosophy were also flourishing.
There was a reason that music began to become an everyday part of life under Queen Elizabeth s
rule. The queen herself even had a musical background and it was well known that music was
her favorite art form. She also took a great interest in supporting experienced musicians and
composers. From Elizabeth s interest in the arts, her people went from generational family songs
to reformed masterpieces from great men, such as William Byrd, Thomas Morley, and Thomas
Weelkes. The society and culture that Queen Elizabeth helped create differentiates from many
cultures we have learned about in class. In other cultures, such as China, someone who has
career in the arts is typically seen as a lower social class citizen, whereas in England the making
of an educated and upper class man must be fluent in musical theory. We can tell by an excerpt
from The Compleat Gentleman written by Henry Peacham in 1622, that the basic role of a
gentleman was to sing your part sure, and at first sight, withall, to play the same upon your viol, or
exercise of the lute.
During this time there was a wide variety of instruments used and some are

Critical Theories Of Critical Theory
Critical theory emerged from the work of German theorists collectively known as The Frankfurt
School. The origins of Critical Theory are directly centered in the creation of The Institute for
Social Research and the social thinkers who promoted the Idealism of Karl Marx. The first Marxist
oriented research school (Frankfurt school) was in Europe and scholars at school developed a
critical theory of society called `Kritisch Theory` which was designed for a specific approach to
interpreting Marxism. This approach sought to revise Marx s. Criticizing of capitalism and the
idea that revolution was the best way to change the social and political structure since his death.
The first president of the school was Carl Grundberg, who wanted Scientific Marxism. Max
Horkheimer, the second president, wanted a more philosophical and less dogmatic approach, which
was open to diverse intellectual currents. The dilemma that the first generation of Critical Theorists
had to reconcile was Marx s emancipatory dream with the stark reality of modern society as
conceptualized by Max... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first criticism of critical theory is that it reproduces idealist (utopian) positions. The second
criticism is that critical theory shows undue concern about philosophical and theoretical problems
.The third criticism of critical theory is its preoccupation with negativity. The fourth criticism of
critical theory is the claim that it developed from a purely academic setting and thus was isolated
from working class politics and became increasingly embroiled in abstract issues and second order
discourse. The fifth criticism leveled against critical theory is that it is a historical that the critical
theorists have examined a variety of events without paying much attention to their historical and
comparative contexts. Moreover, according to Agger, Critical theory can either be a museum piece
or a living medium of political self expression (Ager,

James M. Acheson validates Garret Hardin s logic in Tragedy of the Commons that property rights
do in fact help conserve resources. Acheson also refutes basic principles set forth by Hardin that
users of open access resources have no vested interest in preserving resources over the long term
and are unable to generate regulating mechanisms.
The Maine Lobster fisherman have developed a widely used and accepted territorial system for
regulating access to lobster fishing grounds on the coast of Maine. The system is an informal

The fisherman strongly believed that the notching process during culling, which made the sexually
proven females off limits and illegal to harvest in the future, helped in the conservation efforts and
ensured those proven breeding females would be returned to the waters. There they would be
legally protected to continue breeding without danger of being harvested in the future. Studies
validated the local fishermen s theory that females in the population showing spawned eggs were
statistically more likely to breed again and consequently would increase the egg stock in the waters
and health of the lobster populations. The Department of Marine Resources felt that the notching of
the females created conditions for infection of the females at the notch location. However, the
Department yielded at the insistence of the fishermen. There was evidence provided that the
practice was in fact helping the conservation effort. In addition, there was much discussion between
the groups of the effectiveness of conservation efforts such as minimum harvest size, trap limits,
licenses and escape vents on traps. The lobster fishermen actively participated in the decision
making process and worked through their own lobbying efforts to guide and shape legislation for
the Maine lobster industry that both reflected their own conservation

Italy Vs American Culture Essay
United States Culture Vs. France Italy
The United States is the 3rd biggest nation in the world with a populace of more than 320 million,
as per the U.S. Statistics Bureau. In view of this, the United States is a standout amongst the most
socially assorted nations on the planet. Almost every district of the world has impacted American
society, as it is a nation of foreigners, most eminently the English who colonized the nation starting
in the mid 1600s. U.S. society has likewise been formed by the way of life of Native Americans,
Latin Americans, Africans and Asians. The American cultureincludes the traditions and conventions
of the United States. An anthropologist by the name of Cristina De Rossi quoted, Culture
encompasses religion, food, what we wear, how we wear it, our language, marriage, music, what
we believe is right or wrong, how we sit at the table, how we greet visitors, how we behave with

Does Our Increasingly Mechanized World Cause Us You Feel...
Does our increasingly mechanized world cause us to feel alienated?
It can be argued that life has never been so easy. We are surrounded by plentitudes. food is freely
available in the West. Information is taken for granted, and we often dont want for nothing.
Yet there are signs and many reasons to suggest that we are far from happy despite this new age of
overabundance and the freedom it affords us.
Life in this age is unsatisfying for many, with people exhibiting clear signs of dissastisfaction, and
a sense of unease and angst. Our society and all its needs for advancement from technology and
overabundance is our chosen answer to all our problems, and we rely on such things for a higher
quality and easier life.
Yet, it doesnt seem to be getting better, our problems continue and in ways even increase as a result
of our incessant progression towards a brighter future.
Amidst the massive changes in society we face, we as a result constantly question our reality and
purpose within it, and this rapid mechanized world usually pushes aside any sense of community. I
think a capitalist; consumerist society creates in us a sense of alienation entirely new to our modern
times.
I want to understand the deeper reasons behind this, not only because i think it is very important
but also because i feel it is largely misunderstand and overlooked for such a huge complicated issue
within our society.
I will look at Marx and Engels.

The arena of advertising is also another common target for the show. In an episode mimicking the
Super bowl it becomes clear that companies, especially the beer companies capitalize on the event
(Rushkoff 249). Rushkoff believes that as The Simpsons sends out messages showing how people
can be manipulated that they will become more aware that; they will be able to watch something or
see an advertisement and really look at it critically questioning its intentions and the quality of the
information. The Simpsons is a great example of how some Televisionshows are diverting from the
typical path of hypnotizing their viewers and are instead embracing dialogue that helps society
become more cynical of television today. Quoting from his article Johnson says, What I am
arguing for is a change in the criteria we use to determine what really cognitive junk food is and
what is genuinely nourishing. In a statement made by Graff in Hidden Intellectualism ; What doesn
t occur to us, though, is that schools and colleges might be at fault for missing the opportunity to
tap into such street smarts and channel them into good academic work. Nor do we consider one of
the major reasons why school and colleges overlook the intellectual potential of street smarts with
anti intellectual concerns. I think that Johnson would completely agree with Graff s statement and
would back it up with research of his own. He would agree that society

Descriptive Essay Car
Car I always had dreamed of buying my own muscle car in high school. I would shop every day
trying to find one that was affordable, and fast. I never could find one until one day while I was
at a family gathering my Dad asked his cousin if he had any older cars around the farm that were
for sale.
He said, I have the one for you.
A 1982 Pontiac Firebird.
It was not pretty, but it was fast he said.
A few months past, while we figured out a time to go look at this car. Finally the day came. On
the way there I was just imagining this car to look amazing. We arrived and sure enough I got
my hopes up, it was an ugly green color. We looked it over and he took me for a ride in the car.
During the ride he hit the throttle around the corner and we slid sideways. I was sold, this car
was quick. I was going to buy this project car no matter what it took. We loaded the car up on the
trailer and gave him $500 and we were headed back home. A few weeks past before we started
working on the car. We ordered parts and eventually got it to run better, and we were able to
keep the engine cool by adding electric fans. We found a set of used tires to put on it. The tires
were not the right offset size, so the rear tires stuck out about two inches on each side. I
eventually started to drive it on the streets and all over the place. While working on the car one

An Analysis of Arthur Miller s Death of a Salesman and...
Fragmentation of Mind The human mind is a very fragile thing and it can be broken into pieces
and destroyed as much as the human body can. In the play Death of a Salesman, main character
Willy Loman is a man past his prime. He has been a salesman all his adult life and yet he has
never been successful, despite his bravado. Arthur Miller s Death of a Salesman is about a sad
salesman named Willy Loman who has spent his entire adult life working in sales, hoping to
makes something of his life with little success, but always believing and affirming that a man
who is well liked is always successful. Death of a Salesman has what would initially seem to be
a spare plot; an aging man comes face to face with the reality of his existence and crumbles in the
wake of his failures. When Willy Loman comes to the realization that his life has been nothing
but a failure, his mind shatters and he commits suicide, unable to live in a world where he has
been disillusioned. When the reader or the viewing audience is first introduced to Willy, he is
mentally exhausted from driving about making sales. Suddenly I m goin sixty miles an hour and

Analysis Of The Film Whale Riders
In the Film Whale Riders, the director Niki Caro, does an excellent job in developing critical
themes combining spiritual and religious traditions resonating with the audience. The compelling
themes demonstrated in the movie such as leadership, change of role in women, connection to
nature, traditions and change are all eloquently presented as the plot unfolds. As a young woman
myself, I can feel empathy towards the main protagonist, Pai, as she puts maximum effort in
convincing her grandfather Koro, that she can be the families next whale rider.
As the movie begins, the tone of Pai s monologue where she describes how her family awaits the
birth of the first born boy who would become chief, moderately sets the the mood for the rest of
the film. Pai, states that there was no gladness was she was born; this is because both her mother
and brother [ who was suppose to be the next leader] died. The theme of leadership is presented as
Koro searches for a new Maori leader. As Pai s dad, Porourangi, denies leadership due to the death
of his wife, Koro searches for leadership elsewhere; overlooking Pai s ability to do so because of
her sex. Pai displays leadership in wanting to aid her community in being the next whale rider by
attempting to attend her grandfather schooling and learning Mau raku (stick fighting) from her
uncle whom she privately learns from.
As Pai s conquest to become leader progress, she unravels the theme of role changing. An
interesting factor that I noticed

Mental Health Professionals
After reading the case study, it has cast doubt in the reader s mind about mental health
professionals. Are they really helping the mentally ill or are they just doing a job for financial gain?
The mental health professionals in those institutions did not recognize that these patients were not
mentally ill; but the mentally ill residents observed that they were all sane. This example is the
reason why excuses have no place in medicine, and that most mental healthprofessionals do not give
an in depth evaluation of a person or they just look for symptoms that are easily recognizable to
suit given disorder. Mental health professionals should provide evidence for detecting or diagnosing
a mental illnessbecause mentally illness individuals often have several mental illnesses that co
occur which makes it very hard for medical professionals to diagnosed.

made by psychiatric diagnosis are that many conditions are believed to be permanent, so once
an individual receives a diagnosis, it can be difficult for them to be regarded as well again. For

The modus operandi of this movement is more directed towards direct action, as opposed to taking
course of petitioning to authorities in other similar movements. The drivers of the movement claim
to bring about a revolution through this movement across the globe. However, is the OWS
movement actually qualifies to be called catalyst in bringing about the much hyped word the
revolution ?
In my opinion: NO . OWS is compelling enough to initiate a dialogue or a discussion about the
current state or to let the authority know that citizens are not complacent. Other than that, with no
leader, no clear agenda and, no institutional support , I do not see this movement being effective
enough in bringing about the so called revolution . There are three key reasons which lead me to
reach this assessment.
Firstly, OWS does not recognize the need of leadership. According to the protesters the leadership
will result in hierarchy which means inequality. What they fail to understand is that for a movement
to have structure, direction and a clear message, it is ok to have a hierarchy, which naturally comes
with leadership.(Barnac, The failure of Occupy Wall Street, Jan 2012)

Stagecoach Essay
Stagecoach An Interpretation of Stagecoach
In 1939 John Ford masterminded a classical western film by the name of Stagecoach. This film
has the integrity of a fine work of art. Being that it could be considered a work of art, the
impression left on a viewing audience could differ relying on the audience s demographics.
However, it is conceivable to all audiences that Ford delivers a cast of characters that are built on
stereotypes and perceptions conjured from B westerns that preceded this film s time. Each
character is introduced to the audience in a stereotypical genre, as the film progresses, these
stereotypes are broken down and the characters become more humanized. This is apparent with a

Her only claim to such an elite profile is her husband, who belongs to the US Calvary. Her
iconography is that of upper class women, nothing more really. She longs for her husband, she too
is arrogant to some degree, and she is despised of things subordinate to her nature. She is revolted
Dallas who is portrayed as a prostitute. She could not even bear to share a meal at the same table
with someone of Dallas s social standing. It is only after the birth of her child that she breaks
away from her stereotype. She realizes the aid and care that she received from Dallas with her
newborn and soon after begins to socially accept Dallas. This is not the last one will see of a
character breaking their stereotypical role.
This brings us to the characters that compose the middle class. These characters are: Curly,
Hatfield, Doc Boone and Peacock. The roles of these characters are not built and manifested
throughout the film. For instance, Curly is introduced as the sheriff out to imprison the Ringo
kid. This is in line with the B men of the justice of the peace. His major concern is to see that the
laws of the land are upheld. He deviates from this role at the very end of this film by letting the
Ringo kid go. Clearly this is an action that is not in line with his law keeping duty. Hatfield, a
southern gambler, is really a unique character. Most B western icons depicted as gamblers are
usually shown as hard and

In order to confirm that call takers and dispatchers are handling calls appropriately and dispatching
units correctly and in a timely fashion, the organization conducts quality assurance checks or QA s.
This involves the administration accessing a sampling of calls taken and dispatched by each
employee. The calls are then compared to the EMD questions to ensure that they were appropriately
followed and that the call was classified correctly. Then the requested response pattern of the
responding agency is compared to the units sent to the call. If there is a variation in this response,
then the administrator will look in the notes of the call to see the reason for the change. If the
reasoning is not clear in the notes, then contact will be made with the dispatcher for additional
information. Upon completing the QA, if there are discrepancies or errors then the call is brought
to the attention of the supervisor of the call taker/dispatcher. The supervisor then contacts the
employee with information as to why the call was incorrect and what the correct choice would be.
Then the supervisor would determine whether any further sanctions should be taken. Sanctions
include the counseling session, a formal write up in the employee s file, remedial training,
suspension, and recommending the employee s termination. In extreme cases, the employee could

Compare and Contrast How the Main Protagonists Experience...
Compare and contrast how the main protagonists experience being outsiders within their
respective societies. The experience of being outsiders is explored by William Shakespeare in
Othello , Emily Bronte in Wuthering Heights and Robert Browning in his Dramatic Monologues.
Shakespeare explores the theme of alienation through a character considered an outsider by the
society in which he lives in. Similarly Emily Bronte explores Heathcliff and the obstacles he faces
at Wuthering Heights. Browning s Dramatic Monologues illustrate the minds of psychotic lovers
who are all possessive and delusional. In all the three texts the outsiders are rejected and are to an
extent responsible for their own position in the society. While some are... Show more content on

The narrator in The Last Ride Together is also rejected by his mistress but in contrast his
acceptance of this makes him dissimilar to the Duke and Heathcliff. In this poem Browning
portrays human success and the limitations people face. Although the lover s life has been meant
for fails , he has accepted his fate with his mistress and so accepts his failure of not being able to
get her as part of his success. Othello on the other hand has major success in wooing Desdemona
which could suggest that the rejection and success these characters receive could reflect the
extent to which they are seen as outsiders. Porphyria s lover is depicted as an outsider like the
Duke but the narrator in this poem is far more psychotic. Browning s use of language indicates
that Porphyria is from a higher class than her lover gay feast , dripping cloak and shawl , soiled
gloves paints an image of a wealthy and independent woman. There is a clear issue of class and
wealth in both of these Browning poems and it seems to be the root of the problems faced by the
lovers. In Wuthering Heights money and power is also a major issue which causes the unfortunate
events endured by the protagonist. When Heathcliff returns to the Heights as a gentleman in dress
and aspect rather than a scavenger , there is a rise in his wealth and power. Although he abuses his

COPD Case Study
Based on the symptoms of exacerbation of COPD, we decided to add Atrovent which is an
anticholinergics, prednisone which is a glucocorticoid, and doxycycline, an antibiotic (Stoller,
2017). The patient has already been prescribed albuterol, which is a short acting beta adrenergic
agonist. In adding Atrovent to the treatment therapy, it increases the effect of bronchodilation and
helps the patient to breathe better (Stoller, 2017). For the antibiotics, it is recommended that the
antibiotic regimen should target likely bacterial pathogens (Haemophilus influenza, Moraxella
catarrhalis, and Streptococcus pneumonia) (Stoller, 2017). Thus, we chose doxycycline as the drug
of choice for the treatment (Bartlett Sethi, 2017).

category include aclidinium, anticholinergic agents, glucagon, glycopyrrolate, potassium chloride
which need to avoid combining with Atrovent (Lexicomp, 2017). Many of the X category drugs
enhance the anticholinergic effect. Other drugs that are C category include acetylcholinesterase
inhibitor, gastrointestinal agents, nitroglycerin, thiazide diuretics and tiotropium (Lexicomp, 2017).
It is important to note that some of the common drug interactions. For nitro, it is important to
remember the anticholinergic agents may impair or decrease the absorption of sublingual nitrate
(Lexicomp, 2017). Also, the potassium chloride, the anticholinergic agent may enhance the
ulcerogenic effect on the oral form of potassium (Lexicomp, 2017).
Administration Guidelines
For Metered dose inhaler, it is important to prim the inhaler, by releasing two test spray in the air,

The Advantage And Disadvantages Of Being An Instrument

The Great Gatsby
Being provided with amusement or enjoyment is important and is essential for being content in
life. Entertainment in general is fascinating; such as movies, television shows, video clips on
YouTube, music, comics and other ridiculous things that people do in this world, not only
entertain us but also teach concepts and morals either directly or indirectly. Books are either
entertaining to some or are just objects that make life stale and boring, but yet these insignificant
objects can provide more entertainment while also allowing cognitive thinking skills and
learning universal truths that teach life lessons. People have different opinions towards books
and how to utilize them for the generation of today and if reading novels is even relevant for
students in the future. Although reading a novel provides the reader a better understanding of its
concepts, it is not necessary or important to read an entire novel to understand the book. Endings
of books are usually there to bring the novel to a close and deliver a life lesson at the end. All of
the concepts and themes are in the body of the book and are well presented depending on the
author. In Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby, the American Dream was the theme that was presented,
and according to the story it is unachievable and just an infant fantasy that America portrays. While

The Theme Of War And Reflection Of Homer s Iliad
Through the course of history, the theme of war has been highlighted, dating back as far as
Homer s Iliad written around the year(s) 800 700 BC. The glorification of the heroic ideals of
warriors took a turn over the middle ages and drastically redefined how poetry took to it after the
advent of gunpowder. It is important to note here of what caused such a shift of emphasis on
wars and warriors. The key aspect was the technological advancement of modern warfare, dealing
damage and destruction in scale previously unimaginable and possibly paving way to new forms
of warfare complimented by new ideologies and advent of postmodernity. To add to this, the

Advantages Of Traditional Costing System
Conventional Absorption Costing Systems or Traditional Costing System
It is a remarkable reality that the traditional costing systems use a solitary, volume based cost driver.
This is the motivation behind why the traditional product costing system misshapes the expense of
items or products. By and large, this kind of costing system appoints the overhead expenses to
items on the premise of their relative use of direct work. Thus, traditional cost systems frequently
report incorrect product costs. The issue is in the basic technique of the traditional costing systems.
They stick to the supposition that items reason cost. Every time a unit of product is produced, it is
expected that cost be brought about.

Hemp Plant Benefits
Imagine a miracle plant with the ability to cure cancer, feed communities, power cars, and build

Cannabis Sativa, hemp was at one point the major cash crop of America where it was used in sails,
rope, clothing, paper and other items. (Schneider). Despite the fact that hempcontains very minute
traces of THC, the chemical found in marijuana that induces psychoactive effects, it is oftentimes
confused with marijuana, another subtype of CannabisSativa. Some hemp supporters chalk up the
ban on hemp to the fact that many policymakers believe that by legalizing hemp they are
legalizing marijuana, which is not true. (Yonovka). The federal ban on hemp should be

Essay Case note on ahluwalia
R. V Kiranjit Ahluwalia [1993] 96 Cr. APP. R. 133 Court of Appeal
Introduction
In this case, R. V Kiranjit Ahluwalia1, the appellant is kiranjit Ahluwalia and the respondent is
Regina (the Crown). The Legal issue in the case was whether the use of provocation as a defense
could stand as she had sufficient time to consider her action and also if it could stand as a defence
to person who has suffered domestic abuse with resulted in a battered woman s syndrome.
The Crown court convicted her of Murder and rejected the defence of provocation. The court of
appeal overturned the conviction and ordered a retrial.

The counsel for the appellant goes further to say that based on expert evidence, women with a long
history of violent treatment may react to provocation with what he calls a slow burn reaction rather
than an instantaneous loss of self control.10
The Judge held that the phrase sudden and temporary loss of control summarizes the main idea of
the defence of provocation, and that its main purpose as a defence is strictly concerned with the
actions of an individual who as not that that moment master of his own mind. However, the longer
the interval of time between the provocation and the fatal act the stronger the evidence on
deliberation.11
The appellant s second submission concerned the way the judge in the first instance referenced
sudden and temporary loss of self control to the jury in the direction. The appellant submitted that
this direction was incorrect. He also proposed that the learned Judge s direction regarding the
appellant s characteristics in an attempt to use the model set by Lord Diplock in DPP v Camplin.
The counsel for the appellant criticized the learned judges direction on two grounds: Firstly, that the
Judge did not mention that the appellant was suffering from a condition known as the battered
woman s syndrome which so affected her personality that it put her in a state of learnt helplessness.
Secondly, that the list of characteristics should have been left open so that the jury may pick up on
the fact that she suffered from a

The Lesson By Toni Cade Bambara And Horatio Alger
Success is the chance to go out there and use the resources available to take advantage of
opportunities that most people do not. Usually, things happen in life and it can prevent the
process of obtaining success. In the readings, The Lesson by Toni Cade Bambara and Horatio
Alger by Harlon L. Dalton conveys the message that success is not always an everyday thing and
it takes opportunities for it to become part of life. In The Lesson , an angered girl named Sylvia is
taken on a field trip to a toy store with Miss Moore to learn a valuable lesson. The lesson is to
become successful in society because it is the only way to make it to the top. On the other hand,
Horatio Alger shows more of a realistic viewpoint where success is not as... Show more content on

Dalton states, Black folk certainly know what it is like to be favored, disfavored, scrutinized, and
ignored all on the basis of our race. Sometimes we are judged on a different scale altogether (273).
Dalton is trying to state that African Americans know what it is like to be judged and because
of this it creates a road block. In addition, race has become a universal problem that people tend
to cause huge tensions and the way Horatio Alger s essay states it is that everyone is equal
would not be true. On the other hand, Sylvia seems to be under the paradox that Dalton has
stated about race. Sylvia throughout the story goes on a field trip to a toy store where she sees
items that cost a lot of money from the glass window, but when she enters the store an issue
occurs. Sylvia states, Not that I m scared, what s there to be afraid of, just a toy store. But I feel
funny, shame. But what I got to be shamed about? Got as much right to go in as anybody (269).
Sylvia is afraid to enter the store because the fear of race keeps occurring in her mind. It is a
huge issue because African Americans had many different views and it made them feel insecure.
Also, Sylvia knows that the toy store is fancy and expensive, which triggers her to back off
because she is from a poor background. Race has a huge impact on society, no matter what way it
is looked at and Sylvia s fear expresses that of many at the time.
Secondly, chances are

The Simpsons Satire
During the late 1980s, The Simpsons, was introduced as an animated cartoon show and has
tremendously grown into a popularity of the American culture. Matt Groening, creator and
executive producer of The Simpsons, has displayed twenty seven seasons for over thirty years on
20th Century Fox Television. Jesssamyn Nehaus, doctor and avid popular media consumer, states
the following, In...respect, the show very much reflects the sensibilities of its originator, Matt
Groening. As a Los Angeles cartoonist, Groening relentlessly satirized the basic elements of the
American dream, portraying schools, families, and workplaces as prisons of the mind and soul
(763). The Simpsonspresent an irony of a dysfunctional family whose stories and characters are...

In the past, the acceptance of homosexuality was extremely difficult, as it has now been
embraced by society. One episode in particular, Homer s Phobia, first aired in 1997, the
Simpsons family decide to visit a collectibles shop, where they meet the store dealer, John. The
family and John become friendly, leading to Homer wanting to invite him and his wife for dinner
next time. However, Marge eventually tells Homer that John is gay; Homer is completely shocked
and instantaneously, his attitude and demeanor changes toward John. The hyper irony behind this
episode is a reflection of the way American society is portrayed; through the television show, the
depiction of homosexuality aids American society to take charge of whom they are as an
individual. Carl Matheson, a philosopher, states the following, Furthermore, this process of
undercutting runs so deeply that we cannot regard the show as merely cynical; it manages to
undercut its cynicism too. The constant process of undercutting is what I mean by hyper ironism
(312). To explain, this is the hyper ironic satire utilized by The Simpsons, enabling society to
reflect the cartoon show as more than vulgar comments. In a particular scene, Bart walks past
Homer as he is watching TV and notices he is wearing a new Hawaiian shirt. Ultimately, Homer
asks Bart where

Dentist Be Damned
There are several shocking truths on oral hygiene that are not familiar to many people, some of
which has been shared by Alice Barnes, the author of the revolutionary and new program called
Dentist Be Damned .
It is important to note that you are NOT expected to brush your teeth after absorbing an acidic or
sugary food. If you do this, you will be damaging your enamel which will make your enamel wear
out probably result to cavities. By taking in acidic and sugary foods your enamel will become so
soft and weak, hence brushing it at this state will result to your enamel thinning and wearing out.
Ensure that you brush your teeth gently using the toothbrush; most people do not know that by
brushing their teeth aggressively, they are wearing out ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These type of toothpaste are known to contain bleach and other chemicals which are too strong for
everyday use, however, many people use them on a daily basis. By using this type of toothpaste
for a longer period of time, you will dangerously destroy your teeth s enamel which will make your
teeth sensitive. Make sure you avoid any teeth whitening or stain removal toothpaste if you have
sensitive teeth.
Alice also advised people to avoid the use of baking soda on their teeth; this is mainly because
baking soda is quite dangerous and can damage and weaken the teeth s enamel. Although, baking
soda may seem safe but when you apply it to your teeth, it can be compared to grinding your teeth
against sandpaper.
You should be aware of likely hazards if you have amalgam based fillings. This is mainly
because amalgam based fillings contain mercury which is very toxic to humans. It is important to
check them often in the case of a leakage or any other thing. You might end up being lethargic if
you have a broken amalgam based filling which could lead to weak immune systems and other
unwanted side effects. Due to the dangerous effect of amalgam based fillings and its side effects,
many countries have stopped its

  • 2. Digital Fabrications Architectural And Material Techniques ARC 5205 Advanced Theory Professor Neil Leach STUDENT NAME: Deborah Wintringer Ariosa BOOK TITLE: Digital Fabrications Architectural and Material Techniques DATE: 11/03/2016 PAGES READ: 60 87 The book presents the methods behind digital fabrication in a very clear way, the method this chapter is focused on is folding. For most people folding seems pretty obvious, it is a term often used in design studios and architectural projects and could be considered a design principle. This chapter gives us the full range of what folding stands for, how it can be used and shows clear examples depending in the material employed. The chapter is mostly focused on the material operation of the folds and only slightly mentions the theoretical concept and formal tactic of folds. When one adjusts digital designs to work with physical forms a different type of ingenuity is possible, materials can take shapes and forms never thought conceivable. Folding used in architecture has helped produce a variety of fascinating work that has indisputably molded contemporary design. It can turn flat surfaces into a three dimensional one and create structure with geometry. Folding materials is therefore effective at numerous scales. A great advantage of folding is how it creates structural stiffness with geometry. When we add folds onto a planar material, it gains toughness and rigidity. Strategically placed folds enable the material to potentially span longer distances, the folds also often turn the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Military Ethics And The Military Military ethics encompass a wide range of things. In the contemporary world, military ethics include all facets of military behavior, from issuing regular reviews on juniors to relations of those in the military with civilians to matters related to war. Currently, the world has witnessed technological advancements in various sectors including the military. Indeed, battles between different nations have become dominated by highly advanced weaponry especially when developed nations are involved. It is these developments that have raised concerns over the use of highly sophisticated and deadly weapons. Military ethics dictate how certain weapons should be used and circumstances under which the military can use lethal force. Different nations... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Military ethics, therefore, serve to ensure that only weapons that are universally accepted are used in war (Gale, 2016). One fundamental principle of just war customs refers to efforts to make war as compassionate as probable even for the military personnel. The Geneva resolution principles require that soldiers who lay down their arms during battles be eligible for benevolent confinement by their imprisoners. The captors are needed to provide them with food, medical care, and housing. Underlying these ethics is the commonly shared belief that fighter is an impermanent status overriding an essential common humanity of rivals. Humanitarian concerns over soldiers in the traditional military morals is demonstrated by attempts to do away with weapons considered to be inhumane. Such efforts began when the medieval church banned the crossbow since it was perceived to be too accurate and lethal over long distances. Current world leaders and military leaders have categorized blinding lasers, hollow point bullets, and the asphyxiating gas as unethical classes of technology that should not be employed in war. Besides dictating how the military as a whole should conduct itself, military ethics govern how military personnel should behave. Rules of conduct provide guidelines to those in the military on standards of behavioral ethics. Those found culpable of violating the ethics are liable for prosecution under the uniform code of military justice. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Themes Of Animal Stereotypes In The Movie Zootopia Zootopia Zootopia (2016) is another spectacular hit from Disney. It is a story about an unlikely hero accompanied by an even surprising partner who sets out on a quest to solve a investigation threatening Zootopia. Zootopia explored various themes and used animals as characters to effectively display important themes such as stereotypes, prejudice and racism all while keeping it a movie the whole family can enjoy. Zootopia utilises animals to display important themes as mentioned above and its negative effects on society. Stereotypes played a key role in the movie. It can be seen in various scenes of the movie, Judy being victim of it quite a lot. Similarly, prejudice was also demonstrated in the movie with many characters having very false judgements, but were eventually proven wrong. Likewise, racism was shown, just not to a full extent. The movie shows us a good example of today s society with the animals portraying us humans. In Zootopia, many animal stereotypes are explored, most of them which were very false. Through the movie, various stereotypes were demonstrated in Zootopia. It was a key part of the movie, Judy and Nick were all victims of stereotypes as with many other animals. The stereotypes were based on animal s appearances, shape and features. From start to finish, Judy Hopps was stereotyped for being who she was, a rabbit. On her quest to become a cop, no one saw her as a suitable cop and stereotyped her for being a rabbit. Everyone viewed her as a dumb bunny or a carrot farmer bunny and didn t consider her as a cop. Animals also stereotyped her size, since she is so small they think she can t handle herself. A good example can be seen on her first day of the work. When Judy first entered to work, she met Clawhauser. Immediately, your eyes are drawn to Clawhauser, for me, hes very salient. You have this cat who is much bigger in the centre of the image while Judy is standing, barely visible to Clawhauser as she is so short. Your attention goes to clawhauser as you notice how much bigger he is compared to Judy. Various angles are displayed during their inimate conversation. Forest dates in particular are thought of as elephant dependent, since the seed develops superiorly after going through an elephant s system and moreover, the decline of elephantpopulations in West African rain forests in Upper Guinea is correlated with forestdate population declines [4]. Figs are known to be a large food source for many animal species throughout the rainforest, giving the ability for a wider range of biodiversity for both plants and animals. African forest elephants can also provide ivory for economic profit if maintained in a well structured system to boost the numbers in its population. Moreover, both species provide their hides and skins for marketable products for Ghana s consumers. But, for these species of animal to be useful and have a positive impact for our human population as well, management preparation and action is needed to be taken to prevent any negative forthcomings. Policies need to be put into place to effectively change the management of these tropical forest inhabitants. One option of policy that I strongly recommend would be to change the logging and deforestation rates along with a different structural aspect to the process. An idea by the Biodiversity of West African Forests explains that, Many large animals have large home ranges as a result of fragmentation of forest, the resulting forest patches may be too small to sustain a viable animal population. Thus for effective protection of plant species and their related animals sizeable forest tracts are needed. An alternative is a combination of smaller patches connected to each other with corridors, forming ecological networks [6]. These networks would link the forest reserves and other cataloged forests. This type of networking strategy is needed so that the passageways can be used as linkages for both animals and plants to travel throughout more land area so that they can maintain ... Conflict Theory And Social Reform Abstract Chapter 4, Value Conflict, discusses how American sociologists in the early stages of Sociology briefly overlooked the conflict perspective because social reform was more popular. Then the conflict theory became more significant when a link was found in conflict theory and social reform. Conflict Theorists and the formulation of the value of Conflict Perspective The conflict perspective is a combination of European and American Sociologist theories of conflict that was first inspired by Karl Marx. But this dream was not often realized and gained which caused conflict and social problems because many would result in crimes and violence. The framework for value conflict was created by Richard C. Fuller and Richard Meyers. They two stated in publications, that all of social problems with values have a conflict because everyone s values are not the same. This creates a conflict of interests and there are (3) three stages of the mix of the two: 1.Awareness 2.Policy Determination 3.Reform Fuller and Myers wrote their papers during the Great Depression and World War II, both equally rough times in American history which created conflicts at home and abroad for people in general. The conflict theory opposed the notion of disorganization because what is wrong with individuals expressing how they feel about a subject that a different group agrees with. Just because two groups have different opinions is not disorganization in the view of the conflict theorists. This caused critics to suggest that competing sociologists were not following the guidelines to be value free. This led to the formulation of value conflict perspective to include the notion that sociologists should concern themselves with society rather than scientific appearances. • 9. Sports As A Form Of Leisure In Sports Introduction For many people, attending your favorite NFL team s game or watching it on television is a form of leisure. Many people view attending and watching NFL games as a source of leisure as free time because it is a time frame within which you can make your own personal choices about how to spend it and a source of leisureas recreational activity because it is based on participation in nonwork activities...it is a recreational pursuit (Russell, 2017, p. 16). Additionally, viewing a football game provides several qualities of leisure for many people, such as pleasure, ritual, relaxation, happiness, and freedom. Football can also be considered leisure as a spectacle. It provides entertainment for many people, primarily the middle class, and is played in a large stadium with many fans in attendance. Football is such a popular leisure as a spectacle experience that the NFL accounted for 46 of the 50 most watched broadcasts last fall and in 2014, 70% of TV owners watched some NFL football on their sets at some point (Feldman, 2016, p. 38). Many leisure activities that people partake in are dictated by situational factors and demographics, such as gender. This is evident in football viewership, because ...men and women differ in their exposure patterns to mediated sports. The Golden Age In The Elizabethan Era The Elizabethan era was a time full of superstition and persecution, however it was also the beginning of a new age, The Golden Age as it is commonly referred to. During this time the people of England were beginning to progress, in a scientific and artistic way. Music wasn t the only thing that was developing, science and philosophy were also flourishing. There was a reason that music began to become an everyday part of life under Queen Elizabeth s rule. The queen herself even had a musical background and it was well known that music was her favorite art form. She also took a great interest in supporting experienced musicians and composers. From Elizabeth s interest in the arts, her people went from generational family songs to reformed masterpieces from great men, such as William Byrd, Thomas Morley, and Thomas Weelkes. The society and culture that Queen Elizabeth helped create differentiates from many cultures we have learned about in class. In other cultures, such as China, someone who has career in the arts is typically seen as a lower social class citizen, whereas in England the making of an educated and upper class man must be fluent in musical theory. The fisherman strongly believed that the notching process during culling, which made the sexually proven females off limits and illegal to harvest in the future, helped in the conservation efforts and ensured those proven breeding females would be returned to the waters. Studies validated the local fishermen s theory that females in the population showing spawned eggs were statistically more likely to breed again and consequently would increase the egg stock in the waters and health of the lobster populations. The Department of Marine Resources felt that the notching of the females created conditions for infection of the females at the notch location. However, the Department yielded at the insistence of the fishermen. There was evidence provided that the practice was in fact helping the conservation effort. In addition, there was much discussion between the groups of the effectiveness of conservation efforts such as minimum harvest size, trap limits, licenses and escape vents on traps. Fragmentation of Mind The human mind is a very fragile thing and it can be broken into pieces and destroyed as much as the human body can. In the play Death of a Salesman, main character Willy Loman is a man past his prime. He has been a salesman all his adult life and yet he has never been successful, despite his bravado. Arthur Miller s Death of a Salesman is about a sad salesman named Willy Loman who has spent his entire adult life working in sales, hoping to makes something of his life with little success, but always believing and affirming that a man who is well liked is always successful. Death of a Salesman has what would initially seem to be a spare plot; an aging man comes face to face with the reality of his existence and crumbles in the wake of his failures. When Willy Loman comes to the realization that his life has been nothing but a failure, his mind shatters and he commits suicide, unable to live in a world where he has been disillusioned. • 23. Analysis Of The Film Whale Riders In the Film Whale Riders, the director Niki Caro, does an excellent job in developing critical themes combining spiritual and religious traditions resonating with the audience. The compelling themes demonstrated in the movie such as leadership, change of role in women, connection to nature, traditions and change are all eloquently presented as the plot unfolds. As a young woman myself, I can feel empathy towards the main protagonist, Pai, as she puts maximum effort in convincing her grandfather Koro, that she can be the families next whale rider. As the movie begins, the tone of Pai s monologue where she describes how her family awaits the birth of the first born boy who would become chief, moderately sets the the mood for the rest of the film. Pai, states that there was no gladness was she was born; this is because both her mother and brother [ who was suppose to be the next leader] died. The theme of leadership is presented as Koro searches for a new Maori leader. As Pai s dad, Porourangi, denies leadership due to the death of his wife, Koro searches for leadership elsewhere; overlooking Pai s ability to do so because of her sex. Pai displays leadership in wanting to aid her community in being the next whale rider by attempting to attend her grandfather schooling and learning Mau raku (stick fighting) from her uncle whom she privately learns from. As Pai s conquest to become leader progress, she unravels the theme of role changing. An interesting factor that I noticed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Other than that, with no leader, no clear agenda and, no institutional support , I do not see this movement being effective enough in bringing about the so called revolution . There are three key reasons which lead me to reach this assessment. Firstly, OWS does not recognize the need of leadership. According to the protesters the leadership will result in hierarchy which means inequality. This film has the integrity of a fine work of art. Being that it could be considered a work of art, the impression left on a viewing audience could differ relying on the audience s demographics. However, it is conceivable to all audiences that Ford delivers a cast of characters that are built on stereotypes and perceptions conjured from B westerns that preceded this film s time. However, the longer the interval of time between the provocation and the fatal act the stronger the evidence on deliberation.11 The appellant s second submission concerned the way the judge in the first instance referenced sudden and temporary loss of self control to the jury in the direction. The appellant submitted that this direction was incorrect. He also proposed that the learned Judge s direction regarding the appellant s characteristics in an attempt to use the model set by Lord Diplock in DPP v Camplin. The counsel for the appellant criticized the learned judges direction on two grounds: Firstly, that the Judge did not mention that the appellant was suffering from a condition known as the battered woman s syndrome which so affected her personality that it put her in a state of learnt helplessness. • 41. The Lesson By Toni Cade Bambara And Horatio Alger Success is the chance to go out there and use the resources available to take advantage of opportunities that most people do not. Usually, things happen in life and it can prevent the process of obtaining success. In the readings, The Lesson by Toni Cade Bambara and Horatio Alger by Harlon L. Dalton conveys the message that success is not always an everyday thing and it takes opportunities for it to become part of life. In The Lesson , an angered girl named Sylvia is taken on a field trip to a toy store with Miss Moore to learn a valuable lesson. The lesson is to become successful in society because it is the only way to make it to the top. On the other hand, Horatio Alger shows more of a realistic viewpoint where success is not as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dalton states, Black folk certainly know what it is like to be favored, disfavored, scrutinized, and ignored all on the basis of our race. Sometimes we are judged on a different scale altogether (273). Dalton is trying to state that African Americans know what it is like to be judged and because of this it creates a road block. In addition, race has become a universal problem that people tend to cause huge tensions and the way Horatio Alger s essay states it is that everyone is equal would not be true. On the other hand, Sylvia seems to be under the paradox that Dalton has stated about race. Sylvia throughout the story goes on a field trip to a toy store where she sees items that cost a lot of money from the glass window, but when she enters the store an issue occurs. Sylvia states, Not that I m scared, what s there to be afraid of, just a toy store. But I feel funny, shame. But what I got to be shamed about? Got as much right to go in as anybody (269). Sylvia is afraid to enter the store because the fear of race keeps occurring in her mind. It is a huge issue because African Americans had many different views and it made them feel insecure. Also, Sylvia knows that the toy store is fancy and expensive, which triggers her to back off because she is from a poor background. Race has a huge impact on society, no matter what way it is looked at and Sylvia s fear expresses that of many at the time. Secondly, chances are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the past, the acceptance of homosexuality was extremely difficult, as it has now been embraced by society. One episode in particular, Homer s Phobia, first aired in 1997, the Simpsons family decide to visit a collectibles shop, where they meet the store dealer, John. The family and John become friendly, leading to Homer wanting to invite him and his wife for dinner next time. However, Marge eventually tells Homer that John is gay; Homer is completely shocked and instantaneously, his attitude and demeanor changes toward John. The hyper irony behind this episode is a reflection of the way American society is portrayed; through the television show, the depiction of homosexuality aids American society to take charge of whom they are as an individual. Carl Matheson, a philosopher, states the following, Furthermore, this process of undercutting runs so deeply that we cannot regard the show as merely cynical; it manages to undercut its cynicism too. The constant process of undercutting is what I mean by hyper ironism (312). To explain, this is the hyper ironic satire utilized by The Simpsons, enabling society to reflect the cartoon show as more than vulgar comments. In a particular scene, Bart walks past Homer as he is watching TV and notices he is wearing a new Hawaiian shirt. Ultimately, Homer asks Bart where ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
