What Caused The Stock Market Crash
Since the creation of stock exchanges in the 13th century, the stock market has played a vast
role in our history. It s the aggregation of buyers and sellers of stocks or shares; these may include
securities listed on a stock exchange as well as those only traded privately. The biggest crash in
history took place in 1929. Depression consumed the people and the economy was at its nadir. In
2008, another crash took place. Still today we can look back and see how it has shaped the world in
a negative way. A stock marketcrash has been defined as a sudden dramatic decline of stockprices
across a significant cross section of a stock market, resulting in a significant loss of paper wealth.
Crashes are caused mainly by inadequate management of the stock market. The 1929 Stock Market
crash was the result of multiple economic disproportions and lack of organizational structure. Many
people think that the Great Depressionwas caused because of the crash; however, that is an
entirely misled idea. The depression took place just after the crash, meaning it was not really its
cause but the spark to the fire. Just before everything happened, the market was as high as it could
ever be.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Just as people could feel the side effects of the crash back in 1929, still today we can feel the
effects of the crash in 2008. When the recession occurred, about 9 million people had lost their
jobs by 2009 in the United States and housing prices had fell to their lowest point. It has been
seven years since the market has gone down that severely; however, it has recovered greatly since
the crisis

Pruriceptive Itch
For the most part we all itch subconsciously to gain relief from minor disturbances on our skin.
But most of us have probably experienced itches that go far beyond this level to the point where an
itch can take over you entire mind for several minutes. As an example of a more extreme case a
patient with HIV from Massachusetts developed a severe deep crawling itch on the right side of her
scalp in response to shingles medication. Her scratching intensified at night time and one
unfortunate morning she woke up to find green liquid on her hands. When she got to the hospital
she was immediately admitted into an Emergency department. She had scratched through her skull
and into her brain (Gawande).
Scientists classify itches in four categories pruriceptive (skin irritation and inflammation),
neuropathic (chronic itching due to nerve damage), neurogenic (activation of the CNS without
stimulus), and psychogenic (mental illness). Pruriceptive itch, the most common type, can be
triggered by stimulation of pruriceptors by mechanical, thermal and even chemical mediators such
as histamines which are part of our body s immune response (HowStuffWorks).
It is easy to think that the need to itch is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The authors also make the important observation that pain has the ability to suppress itch which is
shown when the mechanical pain of a scratch masks an itch, but never see an itchy sensation relive
pain (Sun). This led the authors to believe that pain and itch have common neuronal paths but
somehow our CNS is able to distinguish these sensations. Their new selectivity theory claims that
itch stimuli are itch neuron specific while painful stimuli activates a wide range of neurons that
ultimately inhibits the itch sensation while producing the pain

Casual Wear By James Merrill
As humans in order to connect and relate to those around us we tend to judge other people and
what they believe in. If we agree with them about a topic then we are able to connect with them
by discussing the similar opinions we have on that specific topic. If we disagree with them on a
topic then we can examine why and look at the topic from a different perspective. Often though,
if we do not agree with someone else s beliefs or opinions, we will criticize them without making
much of an effort to understand where they are coming from. Along with having a closed mind to
others opinions, we do not look at our own opinions to see how they could be flawed or be seen as
absurde. In James Merrills poem Casual Wear the author uses contrasting images to drive a point
across to the reader about how we are hypocrites when we criticize others values and what they
will do to make their opinion known and standing up for what they believe in, instead believing
that we are innocent when we make our own opinions known. Merrill can see that we are
hypocrites in thinking that we are innocent when standing up for our values, but when others
stand up for their own they just cause damage, and he tries to make this known to us through his
poem. In the first stanza of Merrill s poem we are given a description of an average tourist.
Someone you would see on any day walking down the street. Merrill makes it so we can relate to
this tourist by making the character someone we have all been at

Rogers View Of The Good Life
My Thoughts: Rogers description of the good life as a direction is incredibly different from the
American perspective that happiness is a singular goal one can achieve. We often think that, once
we reach a point in life where we re happy, that we ll stay that way indefinitely. Rogers perspective
is less palatable, but probably more accurate.
My Thoughts: To me, this was Roger s most interesting and thoughtprovoking quote. When he
says that someone living the good life would very likely not be a conformist, it makes me think
about the fact that most people are conformists. I don t think being a conformist is a fixed aspect
of who people are, but I do think it s very hard to overcome for people who have lived much of
their lives that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think that the people close to us have a responsibility to tell us how they perceive our behavior.
Whether or not we agree with it, it s still helpful to know that others may not always take things
as we mean them to. This quote made me think of an argument I had with my step father when I
was around 12 or so. We were talking about how the constant arguments we had were making the
house a very negative place to be. I said, Well, if you don t like it, you can leave! He perceived
that as me telling him to get out of the house, but I meant that because he was an adult and had a
car and money, he was able to drive away from the house if he wanted and take a break from it,
whereas I was stuck there. We didn t clear up the misunderstanding at the time, but when I talked
to my brother later that night, he pointed out to me that that was how everyone else in the family
had taken my comment. I would never have even considered that that was how they would have
heard it, but having that pointed out to me has made me more cognizant of the way I word
things, even now, almost 10 years later. By pointing out to me how my words were taken by the
rest of the family, I was able to grow in my ability to consider others

The Impact Of Race On The Gender Wage Gap And Women Overall
Equality of wages in America is of high concern and has been for a long period of time. On no
account of America s history, have women and men s wages ever been equal, rather they have
always had a significant gap between them. This has seen women as undervalued, causing a lot
of discrimination and hardship in the workplace for women. Especially for women of color the
wage gap is even larger. The pay gap in America affects women of all ages, races, and education
levels but what can they do to close it?
What is the impact on race on the gender wage gap and women overall is a topic everyone should
be informed. I chose this question because one i m a young woman and as a young women i m
constantly reminded that women are below men and we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It refers to unequal treatment or perceptions of people based on gender. Many people will agree
because there s a lot going on about double standards. Since the 1920 s women have been put after
men. Now in modern times, the realization that men and women can produce the same results, have
the same education, and have the same capacity to accomplish the same overall tasks as men is
becoming more popular (Varnell)1. People are starting to realize that women can accomplish the
same things as men but they still don t get their recognition. Gender inequality seems to have more
problems in the workplace.
The gender pay gap has been an issue forever. Wage discrimination exists when workers are
equally qualified and perform the same work but one group of workers is paid more than
another. The American Association University of Women is releasing a new study that shows
when men and women attend the same kind of college, pick the same major and accept the same
kind of job, on average, the woman will still earn 82 cents to every dollar that a man earns
(Coleman)1. The pay gap is even greater for African American and Latina women. African
American women earning 64 cents and Latina women earning 56 cents for every dollar earned by
a white non Hispanic man. Of course it s a racial issue because the caucasians have always been the
superior race. African Americanand Hispanic women are significantly less likely to graduate from

Paul Polman became the CEO of Unilever in 2009 their business plan was shifted from food
brands to beauty and hygiene products as they are more financially beneficial. The same year
Unilever created a sponsorship with a NASCAR team JR Motorsports for advertising purposes of
their products and to gain more publicity.
JR Motorsports is a team overrun by Dale Earnhardt Jr. who is one of the most popular drivers of
NASCAR and also a winner of 50 NASCAR sanctioned races. For the main benefits of the
sponsorship are the financial support from Unilever in exchange they help Unilever to advertise
their products of choice. With the financial support from Unilever JR Motorsports were able to
grow as a team and become a stable organization. For this reason they have remained loyal to
Unilever for a long period of time and help to advertise their products and bring their name in the

NASCAR events host a huge audience. Moreover, the team drivers are very involved on and off

Maxine Hong Kingston s No Name Woman
Maxine Hong Kingston, a first generation Chinese American, searches for her identity by
comparing her own American traditions with her parent s old China traditions. Although Kingston
grew up in California, her family roots remain deep within her culture. She is an active feminist and
the author of two well known books, The Woman Warrior
(1970) and ChinaMen (1980). In No
Name Woman, Kingston explores the treatment, values and life of the women of old China in the
1920s.
In No Name Woman, which is Chapter One of The Woman Warrior: Memoirs of a Girlhood among
Ghosts, Kingston learns from her mother that she once had an aunt who killed both herself and her
newborn baby by jumping into the family drinking well in China. Kingston relates that the woman
s husband had left the country years before to provide for the family in America, so the villagers
knew the child was illegitimate. The night that the baby was born, the villagers raided and
destroyed the family house; consequently, the woman gave birth in a pigsty. Kingston s mother
further explains that the next morning she found her sister in law and the baby had plugged up the
well. The woman had brought such disgrace upon her family that they decided to pretend that she
had never been born.
Kingston s mother tells the story as a cautionary tale to her daughter, in the years Kingston begins
to menstruate. Her mother warns her to be careful lest the same fate fall upon her. Kingston,
looking back on the story later,

The Performance Characterization Of Two Multileaf...
Paper title: Head To Head Performance Characterization of Two Multileaf Collimator Tracking
Algorithms for Radiotherapy
Method Introduction
The goal of this study was to compare algorithms performance using the span of motion complexity
and MLC modulation that may be expected during clinical practice.
MLC plans and motion input
Selected abdominal/thoracic and pelvic tumor motions were all obtained by Per Polsen [1, 2] as
representing characteristic three dimensional motion patterns for those sites. For the lung, motions
represented a typical motion , high frequency breathing, predominantly lateral motion and
characterized baseline shift from planned position. The represented prostate motions were
continuous drift, persistent excursion from planned position, transient excursion and high
frequency excursion.
Low and high modulation treatment plans differ in MLC modulation to span the MLC complexity
expected during clinical practice. The relevance of modulation in the context of MLC tracking is
that as the complexity of modulation increases, so does the complexity for the fitting algorithm to
calculate the best fitted aperture given physical constraints. These plans were created by Keall et
al [ref] and used by multiple others studies [ref]. Keall created the MLC plans by forcing
constraints on the optimizer to privilege the PTV for low modulation plan whereas constraints were
expanded to critical structure for the high modulation plan. Four plans were created for each

Suffragettes Movement
One of the most inspiring and empowering time for women worldwide was when we fought for
the right to be heard. Putting their lives on the line, as was the case more for the Suffragists, or
leading community rallies, as the Suffragettes, there was no stopping the inevitable. Women
would win the right to vote. No doubt the party bus rentals were going nuts in 1918. I m often
touted by friends for not being realistic enough for the topic I spend so much time supporting, but
I believe, even with all the horrors many women endure, that women can and will unite to free
themselves. It may take many more years I m not a prophet, but I know the strength of female
energy. We carry life and give birth. I don t see those who are being suppressed remaining in those

The Suffrage Movement Beginning in 1848 the worldwide women s rights movement eventually
included forty three different countries. The basic rally was for women to be given the equalities
of men. Groups were fighting for different laws to be changed within the cultural boundaries of
their country, but the bottom line was and still is, that women demand more respect. The two
major players on the stage of change for women were known as the Suffragist and the
Suffragettes. These two fractions of the whole succeeded in supporting each other to victory. Some
would still argue that women, even in developed countries, still have a long way to go before the
male/female playing field is completely level. Suffragist Both groups were passionate about their
cause, however the Suffragist were more militant about getting their message heard. By today s

Can One Be Considered A Villain
How can one be considered a hero, how can one be considered a villain?
Can one be a hero and not a hero at the same time? One act alone cannot make someone a hero.
They could have been forced against their wil. It mostly depends on the person s history such as if
they did a bad deed multiple times or if they did it just once. A herois someone that does an act
that either saves a life or does it for the greater good. Anyone could do anything helpful and can
be called a hero. Majority of the time, there is a hero and there is always a villain, someone who
does something to ruin the hero s plan. Most likely the hero succeeds and the villain fails. A hero

Analysis Of Harrah Entertainment, Inc.
Introduction Harrah Entertainment, Inc. is a multifaceted business with large scope of services.
They compete in 23 locations to be viewed as best service driven and customer driven organization
for their hotel accommodations, gambling experience, entertainment offerings, food and beverage
options and quality. In many locations, competition is steep causing tight markets and desire to win
an edge. Other competitors focus on outshining and glamorizing their amenities to attract and
captivate the market (Delong Vijayaraghavan, 2003). Harrah s approach is much different; they
focus on marketing based attraction and consider their bread and butter to be in guest services and
consumer satisfaction. Harrah s model has historically relied heavily on its people to accomplish
their goals of gaining market share, increase operating profits and revenue through creating
memorable experiences for happy, hungry and tired guests (Delong Vijayaraghavan, 2003). The
senior leadership within Harrah Entertainment, Inc. feel compelled to, and recognizes the need to
look inward at its staff to better equip and motivate them with a meaningful compensation strategy
to support and achieve their overarching goals. The method currently in place is a customer
satisfaction driven gainsharing bonus plan (Delong Vijayaraghavan, 2003). The question at hand,
are they dealing the right deck of cards to their employees to continue to meet and exceed the
goals? In this paper, key players within

money is because they waste it on booze, unnecessary make up, and an abundance of vehicles

In 2016, a grocery store customer in New Hampshire looked into a bag of grapes and saw a black
widow spider crawling out of the bunch of grapes inside the bag. This spider, name being a

repetition of the name in order to create a sense of fear for the spider. The 8 legged spider with a

Obsolescence Is Perpetuated By Design
In the past, products were made to last. Some people still have old watches and record players
that have been passed down through generations, which remain in working condition. In reality,
most items, which were made prior to World War I, have been found to be long lasting, durable,
and reliable. In contemporary society we are faced with a dilemma, due to the fact that if all
products were built to last as they were previously, various industries would shut down, and
consequently, millions of workers would become unemployed. Furthermore, the overall goal and
strategy of obsolescenceis to motivate the population to buy more, and additionally, be occupied
within a perpetual cycle of consumerism by purchasing and replacing products in order to keep
respective industries open, and to keep products flying off the shelves. The following essay will
exploit exactly how obsolescence is perpetuated by design, from the past through to the present.
The birth of obsolescence occurred in the early 20th century, with Bernard London s acclaimed
pamphlet Ending the Depression Through Planned Obsolescence . The essence of London s thesis
was to essentially advocate for a plan in order to stimulate consumerism and productivism in the
United States. As a result, the American Government imposed obsolescence upon consumer
articles, in order to perpetuate the population s consumption of products . This movement is
strongly affiliated with the infamous Light Bulb Conspiracy a commercial

My Family Essay
I grew up in a small family in India. There were a plenty of things that I was able to learn from
my family. I wouldn t be here, where I am now, without my family. Family defines the most
important things in this world. Family is the place where everyone can learn and express the things
they learn. I m grateful for my family. But I still remember the time my parents told me that we
are going to America, the land of dreams. I was only thirteen years old then. All those years, I
lived in my own country, and quickly moving to America was really hard for me. When I came to
know this, it was really shocking to me, I couldn t stop thinking about my life in America. I never

Recollecting a moment without my family is hard because they were always there for me. I
never had to solve a problem in my family due to it being so perfect for me. In a society, there
would be many struggles and difficulties in families, but I believe family is something that holds us.
It was very difficult for me to accept the reality that I can t have the life I had in India. So, that
transformation of the new lifestyle was extremely hard. Holy Family University also states, A
community united by a common mission. Even though family should be united in one; my
family wasn t able to stay unite because of the different lifestyle in America. But throughout this
semester at Holy Family University, I am able to see how supportive and caring each faculty and
staffs are. They are just a reflection of a family. The problem I am having with my family from
the time we moved to America is the lack of communication because of the busy lifestyle here.
Most of the nights we go to bed without seeing or talk to each other. But, on Saturdays and
Sundays, thankfully, we try our best to give time for each other before going to bed. Societies are
facing numerous divorces every day. I would say, the lack of communication is the main reason for
all these divorces.
Every generation has different concepts on everything and their lifestyle changes too. People go

Darwin begat the term natural selection to depict the procedure by which organisms with ideal
variations survive and duplicate at a higher rate. An inherited variation that expands an organism s
shot of survival in a specific domain is called an adjustment. Over numerous eras, an adjustment
could spread all through the whole species. Along these lines, as indicated by Darwin, advancement
by natural selection would happen. So Darwin plainly and consistently introduced the thought that

Grob Mergers
Mergers are such a complex concept, which can bring about a variety of emotions. I remember
learning about the topic while pursuing my MBA. During that time, I reviewed companies that
had merged and their history. Some were horrible stories of people losing their jobs and a loss
of the mission of the company. I think that in most of these cases (the ones I learned about
through MBA) the merger was done out of fear. Their company was struggling to grow, had
financial issues, or policy were changing the way they needed to do business. Perhaps this was
why there were negative repercussions from the merger. I do realize that the merger of two or
more companies does not come in a nice clean package. However, Grobman does a nice job
reviewing how to begin a merger and the steps necessary for a merger. He reviews that each
participating board should adopt a resolution in favor of the general principle of merging, should
appoint a merger committee of board members and staff, use a outside experienced merger
consultant, and have meetings scheduled to discuss goals of the merger, whether it is feasible,
budgeting, laws, polices, and staff (Grobman, 2015, pg. 395). I think having a careful plan and
address these areas Grobman discusses can lead to a successful merger.... Show more content on

The Era Of The Industrial Revolution
When the Industrial Revolution started, it resulted in the world changing at a high pace. So, the
people started to desire a simpler, and a more stable time. That s when the revival of ancient
architecture started to form. Each type of revival style was associated with a specific architect, for
instance, A.W.N. Pugin was England s leading Gothic revivalist. The revivals of the ancient
architecture influenced the architectural designs of many architects of the time. Two of the most
noted architects in the nineteenth century who were influenced by the architectural revivals were:
Richard Morris Hunt, the leading architect to the Beaux Art style; and Henry Hobson Richardson,

Its style combined classical ideas from the ancient Greek, Roman, and Romanesque architecture and
deployed their ideas into its architecture (Carven, 7/27/2016). The Beaux s Art style influenced
architecture between 1880 and 1920, but its popularity ended with economic hardships from the
great depression. Beaux Arts style emphasized the classical forms and features by showing
elaborate details while having heavy masonry, and massive plans. The Beaux Arts displayed
elaborate details by integrating sculpture that was influenced by the Baroque and Rococo styles. It
also had classical details such as pilasters, balustrades, and garlands. It was highly ornamented to the
point that an elaborately decorated surface with little areas left unornamented became the hallmark
for the Beaux Arts style (Architectural style of America, n.d.). Also, the Beaux Arts style is

Metastasis Term Paper
Metastasis is a hallmark of caner and leading to reduced survival rates of cancer patients. The
ability of a cancer cell to undergo migration and invasion allows it to change position within the
tissues. Metastasis consists of five steps which are termed the metastatic cascade (Fig. 1). These
five steps of cascade are invasion and migration, intravastion, circulation, extravasation,
Colonization, proliferation and angiogenesis. Various cellular processes like de regulated cell
growth, loss of cell cell adhesion, migration through the underlying interstitial stroma, altered
survival signaling which support metastatic spread, therapy resistance and unrestricted tumor

The factors limiting the growth of malignant neoplasm include the basal membrane and various
components of the surrounding stroma, increased interstitial pressure, limited oxygen supply to
tumor cells and the formation of active oxygen forms, hypoxia conditions, and permanent exposure
to immune system cells. Given the intra tumoral heterogeneity, in the struggle for survival, some
tumor cells may be subjected to regression and death, while other cells, which resist powerful,
counteracting micro environmental factors, gain an aggressive phenotype and the ability of
metastatic progression. Invasive tumor growth is enabled by the detachment of malignant cells
from the tumor mass due to a reduction in or complete loss of intercellular adhesion molecules,

The Characteristics Of A Hero In Homer s Medea
1. Jason has a handful of qualities that lead us to believe he is a hero. He is driven, as is the case
when he is given the task to retrieve the Fleece, and his reaction proves strong, the idea of the
great adventure was delightful to Jason . Another example of his resolve is when he speaks to King
Aeetes and immediately states that he will do whatever service he would ask of them (the Argonauts
) in order to retrieve the Fleece. Furthermore, Jasonis able to overcome his fears to accomplish
tasks. An example of this is when he is faced with a seemingly unbearable trial from King Aeetes,
after which he for a time sat speechless. The contest seemed impossible. Finally, he answered I
will make the trial, monstrous as it is . It should be noted that at this time, Jason was not aware of
the help he would receive later from Medea. Lastly, Jason is skilled at motivating the right allies in
times of need. While there is a negative side to this point, which I will address later, it is a vital
characteristic of a hero to be resourceful. Jason is able to prolong the help he receives from Medea
by persuading her that the two would be in love and have peace in Greece. By doing so, he was
able to accomplish all his initial responsibilities.
In my perspective, Jason is no saint. He plays dirty, has an ego and is treacherous, and my reasons
for believing so can be explained through the following examples of when Jason performs in a
recreant manner. The first example from the text is

The Religions Of Christianity And Judaism
Dalai Lama, a well known monk, once said, There is no need for temples, no need for
complicated philosophies. My brain and my heart are my temples; my philosophy is kindness.
Religion shouldn t be a complicated topic. Religion requires the adherent to use their brain and
heart as if it was their place of worship. The adherent s actions take place in the brain; their actions
would be part of the worship. Religion is often associated with philosophy, which is unnecessary.
Religion is not complicated. The adherent of Christianityor Judaismshould have the mindset of
kindness and nothing else. Although the religions of Christianity and Judaism are similar in
viewing Jerusalem as a holy place, they differ in beliefs about Godand symbols that represent their
religion. A common similarity between Christianity and Judaism is their holy place. Christianity
views Jerusalem as a place of holiness since it was where Jesus dwelled. Erica Chernofsky, a
BBC News Reporter, observes that, Christians see Jerusalem as a holy place of Jesus s death,
crucifixion, and resurrection ( Chernofsky, 2014, par. 7). The death, crucifixion and resurrection of
Jesus are three of the main events in Christianity. Jesus was crucified by being hung on a cross to
die. Following death and crucifixion, Jesus rose from the death, which is known as resurrection. All
of these events occurred in Jerusalem, which is the key to Christianity. This series of important

Comparison Of Homelessness In The Homeless
Homelessness in Columbus, GA
In 2005 an estimated 100 million people were homeless worldwide, and as many as 1.6 billion
were without proper housing. Homelessness is an often overlooked problem; people do not
realize the extremities of it. In fact, Columbus, GA has one of the highest homelessness rates in
Georgia. Homeless people are all over; they are in our backyard. People look over them every
day on their way to work, school, and home. They are regular people just like everyone else, yet
no one takes care of them. Unfortunate situations can happen to anyone, and when they do people
reach out and do what they need to take care of them; so why do people not do that for the
homeless? This is a problem that desperately needs help. In Boston, they have what is called
Housing First. This is an organization that goes out to the homeless communities, finds them
apartments, helps them to get a job and provides a way for them to get their life back on track. In
Columbus, we need to start something similar called Community First.
Homeless People are constantly blamed themselves for their situation, but often times it has
nothing to do with anything they have done. People can become homeless in a number of ways.

places emphasis on human s capacity to rise above habit patterns and to select new goals and

incorporating a self defeating life script can be replaced with a life script where the client plays

intrinsic within T.A. is the Ego States . Comprising the Parent, Adult and Child ego states, they
can assist in explaining how humans are made up and how they relate to others. They incorporate
the ways we think, feel and behave. The Parent Ego state consists of behaviours, thoughts and
feelings copied from parents of parental figures. The Adult Ego state comprises behaviours,
thoughts and feelings in direct response to the present, whereas those of the Child Ego state are
replayed from childhood. While all individuals will alternate between these ego states, T.A. seeks
to primarily assist the client to consciously become aware of the ego state they are operating from

The Cretaceous Er The Last And Longest Segment Of The...
According to a live science, an article written by Mary Bagley, The Cretaceous Period was the last
and longest segment of the Mesozoic Era. It lasted approximately 79 million years, from the minor
extinction event that closed the Jurassic Period about 145.5 million years ago to the Cretaceous
Paleogene extinction event dated at 65.5 million years ago (Mary Bagley, LS). In the cretaceous
period, the continent of Pangea was still breaking away from itself, forming what we now know
as the seven world continents. In the many eras of dinosaurs, the cretaceous era was responsible
for evolving some, but not all the dinosaurs from full land dinosaurs to some who were able to live
both on land and in water, semi aquatic carnivorous dinosaurs. This era had produced some of the
dinosaurs that maybe us non paleontologist are more familiar with like the all mighty tyrannosaurus
rex or the long neck. Well let me tell you, there were a lot more dinosaurs than just those two.
Although the tyrannosaurs rex was an enormous dinosaur, a bigger dinosaur was discovered in
1912, the Spinosaurus. This discovery would change peoples, kids, and paleontologists view on
which dinosaur was bigger than the other. This semi aquatic dinosaur, Spinosaurus, was much
larger than the T rex due to its sail like backbones that stuck out of its back. Furthermore,
spinosaurus had a huge advantage that the tyrannosaurus rex did not.

The Theory Of Social Construction
A paradigm is a set of beliefs or assumptions that create the reality for a group. The values, moras,
and habits, all of which are socially constructed, create the reality for the group. The theory of
social construction is a theory that knowledge is constructed by humans for human use. We
communicate using rhetoric, allowing others to see into those socially constructed ideas or
paradigms. Rhetoric is the ability to ascertain and analyze, in any given context, the available
means of persuasion. Persuasion is necessary to convince the audience of one s paradigms. The
play, Angels In America, by Tony Kushner, focuses on two relationships that interconnect
throughout the entire play. Kushner informs the reader of a typical dismal life of someone with
AIDS during the Reagan and Bush eras. During this desperate time, self interest overtakes
everything else, allowing the power dynamics to become even more clear and powerful. This
hierarchy is socially constructed, but sets the reality for the unfortunate, marginalized lives of most
of those contracted with AIDS. Through the writing technique, ASAAP, I will establish the act,
scene, agent, agency, and purpose for each example. This fully explains each act literally and
figuratively, so one is able to fully comprehend the meaning behind each act. Kushner displays the

Feminism In Willa Cather s O Pioneers !
Willa Cather, a nineteenth century American female writer, used her childhood experiences
growing up on the great plains of Nebraska to write about a woman named Alexandra Bergson
and her struggles on her family s farm on the Nebraskan frontier in the book, O Pioneers! ( Willa
Sibert Cather ). The narrator follows Alexandra throughout her life, and shows how she became
successful while overcoming the patriarchy. Conversely, Cather also wrote about a young,
confused girl named Marie Tovesky, who found herself in a crumbling relationship, not sure if
she loved the man she married, or Alexandra s sibling Emil. Her story both regales the reader
with a tragedy, but also shows how others treated and oppressed women during that time. Cather
s O Pioneers! tells the tales of two women who find themselves on varying levels of society, and
uses their stories to address feminism. Alexandra Bergson grew up in the small town of
Hanover, Nebraska on her family s farm, otherwise known as The Divide. After many
catastrophes blighted the farm, her father, John Bergson was on the brink of death. Feminism first
appears here, when, on his deathbed, John Bergson gave his farm to Alexandra because she was
the one who ...read the papers and followed the markets, and who learned by the mistakes of their
neighbors , and the one who ...could always tell about what it had cost to fatten each steer, and

An Unhealthy System Of The United States And Without...
According to Hagop Kantarjian, we rank 70 out of 132 countries An Unhealthy System (2). With

Stock Characters In Roman Comedy
In Roman comedy, the use of stock characters helped to represent common archetypes in society.
Stock characters were also used to allow for audiences to easily understand a production, as the
characters were so commonly seen. In modern movies and specifically American comedy,
stereotypical characters are often used that demonstrate society s beliefs about certain types of
people. These characters are often used satirically to mock the stereotypes that lead people to
judge others. Regardless of when stock characters are utilized, they point to the ideas that a society
has about certain types of people during a specific time period. The stock characterof the leno, or
brothel keeper or pimp, is a character that many, if not all, Romans would have immediately
recognized. The leno is represented in Plautus Pseudolus by a character named Ballio. He owns

harshness towards his slaves. He is seen in the play constantly beating his slaves, and he calls
them names such as whip spoilers (139), which indicates that Ballio beats them so much that his
whip becomes spoiled. Ballio fits the classic definition of a leno, as he is extremely greedy and
only cares about money. He compromises his morals constantly in order to make more money, and
he almost seems proud to accept his bad character. The most important example of this is when he

Rascal Flatt s Song Analysis
Most parents now in today s society want better for their children, and want nothing to harm or
come interfere with their paths. Flatts expresses this in his song, And if you re faced with a
choice, and you have to choose, I hope you choose the one that means the most to you. A report
done by Andres Bendesky and Young mi Kwon found from their results that variation in an
ancient neuropeptide contributes to differences in parental care (Bendesky Andres, Kwon mi
Young 2016). As a young child we obviously want to feel loved and protected especially when
things aren t going our way, we need that person to always rely on. Rascal Flatts ensures that no
matter what path his daughter chooses he will be there as her role model to lead the way her
heart desires to go. This correlates to more of an indirect care towards his daughter, because
Flatts will protect her on her journey being the role model he wants her to also become. On the
other hand, it could also relate to direct care if he was physically helping her on the way, showing
her what she should do.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rascal Flatts makes it clear that he will support the path his daughter has chosen and will continue

young offspring s have their fathers around. For example, passing off your wisdom to your child

Example Of Timeless Literature
Timeless Literature Over the course of each year English teachers choose pieces of literature to
be read over the course of the year. They all possess elements that make them applicable year
after year. Almost every piece of good literature has a theme, idea or lesson that makes it relevant
for all ages. It could be the importance of trust, bravery, family and friendship among others.
Some of these works are Thank You Ma am by Langston Hughes, The Treasure of Lemon Brown
by Walter Dean Myers, and Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. In this first story, Thank You Ma
am , a bot named Rodger desperately wants blue suede shoes, and he is willing to go so far as
stealing to get them.
Rodger rushes up to an older woman named Ms. Jones and tries to take her purse. Ms. Jones
stops him and grabs him by the shirt and does not take him to the police, but to her house. Which
seems illogical, but she has experience with the matter. She lets him clean up, gives him some
food to eat and trusts him to stay alone in a room for a couple minutes with no restriction, half
expecting him to run away or steal from her, but is hopeful he will not. He is apologetic and tries
to thank her, but she cuts him off. Ms. Jones was in a similar desperation once so she understands
that Rodger is not a bad kid, he is just in a bad place. When she returns he is there and her things
untouched. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Employee Engagement Touches Every Aspect Of Human Resources
Employee engagement touches every aspect of human resources management and human resources
is found in every field and sector of every organization. This makes this topic about employee
engagement important to both the employer and the employee if the company wants to be
successful. Research by (MacLeod and Clarke, 2009) defined employee engagement as:
Creating an environment where employees are motivated to want to connect with their work and
really care about doing a good job...It is a concept that places flexibility, change and continuous
improvement at the heart of what it means to be an employee and an employer in a twenty first
century workplace. (as cited by Professor Katie Truss, 2009, p. 8).

Just Poverty In Just Mercy, By Bryan Stevenson
In our country, hundreds of people are apprehended every day for misdemeanors crimes. Our
local justice system will then charge these individuals with fines that can be as much as $2,000
or more. Failure to pay this said fine can immediately result in potential jail time. Yet, if you can
pay your bail, you will spend no more than 24 hours in a local facility. Many of these people are
poor, while the remainderof these people tends to be middle to upper class citizens.
The 14th Amendment is set in place to protect citizens from being denied the equal protection of
the laws . This statement requires all branches of government to treat everyone equally. In Just
Mercy, Bryan Stevenson shares stories about the unjust treatment many of his clients received at the
hands of the American Justice System. Many of which were poor, lower class citizens who had
committed a crime. All of which were charged wrongfully.
Bryan Stevenson was a lawyer based out of Montgomery, Alabama. He helped many of these
people get an honest, fair sentence. Through the publication of his book, he has educated many on
the reality of our prison systems in America. He shares his firsthand accounts of children being
charged as adults, innocent men being charged for crimes they had clearly not had any involvement
with, and women living in poverty being charged with murder for burying their stillborn children.
All of these cases had one thing in common: poverty.
Poverty is defined as the state of being

Free Trade And Open Markets
Traditionally heralded as the defender of free trade and open markets, most people would assume
that the United States rarely, if ever, participates in protectionist trade measures. Yet, while the US
has presented an increasing willingness to engage in open, international trade in recent years, the
history of the country is decorated with countless protectionist measures. Why would any country,
especially the bastion of free trade, opt to enact such measures? For numerous reasons, in fact.
Typically, the reasoning behind each protectionist measure can be categorized into six distinct
arguments: 1) the Infant Industry argument, 2) the Dying Industry argument, 3) the Developing
Government argument, 4) the National Pride argument, 5)... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In industries that are highly concentrated in certain geographic areas, the ensuing economic fallout
and unemployment from a shuttered industry is a huge concern. Typically, the industry is given
this opportunity to reach scale through high tariffs on foreign imports. Once the industry has
lowered production costs to the point that it can compete with foreign imports, the tariff can be
removed and free trade allowed. The US utilized such an approach following the Civil War, when
Southern manufacturing and industry had been devastated by the war. Though the actual physical
capital in the south had been decimated by the war, what was of more concern was the newly
skyrocketing labor costs for US firms. Proceeding the Emancipation Proclamation and subsequent
constitutional amendments granting freedom and citizenship to African Americans, the
extraordinarily cheap labor supply used in US industries was gone. Accordingly, many agriculture
and manufacturing firms were witness to their costs rising to the point where they could not
compete with imports. This led the US to enact high tariffs and import quotas that would allot the
industries to rebuild and readjust to compete on an international level. As the industries began to
reach their economies of scale, the US eased off the restrictions and re opened to freer trade.
Similar to the Infant Industry argument is the Dying Industry one. Indeed, the two arguments share
many similar

Conduct disorder (CD): a serious behavioral and emotional disorder that can occur in children
and teens. A child with this disorder may display a pattern of disruptive and violent behavior and
have problems following rules. (Mental Health and Conduct Disorder, 2005 2015 ). While it
might be surprising, aggressive and antisocial behaviors are the leading cause of child and
adolescent referrals to mental health clinicians. As a result, this leads to a diagnosis of conduct
disorder; which can develop into antisocial personality disorderfor adults. (1) (neurobiology) While

enough work is being done locally and in government to tackle the problem. This essay will
discuss the social class divide as a report by the Equality and Human Rights Commission (2010)

Another study completed by the Scottish Government helps us to see what kind of people are
living in poverty, and contrary to what most people might assume. Most families that are living in
poorer circumstances contain at least one full time working adult. It has also been shown how
families where parents are unemployed are better off on benefits rather than earning minimum wage
. This surely shows that the current minimum wage is not doing the job it was implemented to
do, as families aren t being able to get by and maintain a good quality of life on these salaries.
Supporting the argument that the living wage being introduced should be a government
priority. This would thereby close the gap between the employed and unemployed in Scotland.
Other government policies that are being introduced are also said to be a cause to rising poverty
levels in Scotland. For example, The Guardian (2015) published an article describing how
welfare cuts have put over 700,00 people into poverty since 2012 in the UK. Scotland is also
severely affected as shown by a statement from Nicola Sturgeon (Left Foot Forward, 2015)
discussing how the proposed cut on tax credits will have a devastating affect on 20% of the most
deprived families, losing 8% of their income. This leaves the impression that rather than poverty

Weight Loss And Extreme Diets
How many time has someone started a popular weight loss diet and it either didn t work, or the
results didn t last long before the weight loss came right back? In America now, there are over 30
states that have 25% or more of the adults and children that are overweight or obese (Cleveland
State University, 2013, p. 217). Since the beginning of this obesity epidemic, the risk of
cardiovascular and metabolic diseases have increased over the years (Cordain, 2011, pp. 5 7). This
results in new fad dietsthat are introduced to the media every year and soon after, everyone is
trying it out to lose those pounds fast. These fad diets don t usually entail lifestyle changes, rather
they suggest a quick fix to a person s weight lossproblem. There are weight loss supplements and
extreme diets that cut out one or more food groups entirely. This can make it difficult for most
people to stick with. One of these diets suggests that if we pick up the eating lifestyle of our
Paleolithic ancestors, we could become as healthy and fit as they were millions of years ago
(Cordain, 2011, p. 6). This Paleo diet was first thought of by Dr. S. Boyd Eaton and Melvin
Konner in the mid 1980 s when they did primary research into what our ancestors ate and what
affects this diet would have on current Homo sapiens (Frassetto, Schloetter, Mietus Synder, Morris,
Sebastian, 2009). They found that the ideal diet [is] found in the nutritional practices of our Stone
Age ancestors (Cordain, 2011, p. 4). At

Emily Grierson Beliefs
A Rose for Emily: In A Rose for Emily, the quiet town of Jefferson is inhabited by a living
monument of time, Miss Emily Grierson. Miss Emily inevitably lived in the only house left on her
street, with everyone else overwhelmed with Emily s presence. William Faulkner demonstrates a
theme of traditional values overpowering a changing society by his use of conflictand symbolism.
Following the division of the North and South in the United States, the Civil war molded many
people, including protagonist Emily Grierson, into an idealistic view of what they once were, and
created a barrier between old values and new values. Without opposition from the outside world,
Miss Emily Grierson suppressed herself into a time capsule within her own home.... Show more

Man vs. Society, Man vs Nature, and internal conflict are all developed throughout the story. One
of the prominent conflicts, Man vs. Society , or in other words, Miss Emily Gierson versus the
outside society within the town that she lived in her whole life, demonstrates the theme when the
mayor asked Emily to file her taxes. During their conversation, when Miss Emily keeps
exclaiming I have no taxes in Jefferson. (Faulkner 517), she s battling with time itself because the
world around her wants her progress with them. But, Miss Emily is inattentive to the idea of
moving forward. Along with Man vs. Society, Man vs. Nature is also a key conflict in A Rose for
Emily . When Faulkner said, She told them that her father was not dead , Emily wasn t letting the
doctors dispose of his body for three days (518). Miss Emily was battling with nature by the
pressure to accept her father s death, but ultimately, the change that is going to come forward.
Lastly, internal conflict also creates the theme by using Miss Emily s thoughts and actions to
strengthen the theme. When she decided to start painting lessons to teach the newer generation s a
generally traditional skill of china paining(520), she attempted to intervene with the outside society.
During this process, children didn t bring their boxes of color, tedious brushes, and pictures cut

  • 2. What Caused The Stock Market Crash Since the creation of stock exchanges in the 13th century, the stock market has played a vast role in our history. It s the aggregation of buyers and sellers of stocks or shares; these may include securities listed on a stock exchange as well as those only traded privately. The biggest crash in history took place in 1929. Depression consumed the people and the economy was at its nadir. In 2008, another crash took place. Still today we can look back and see how it has shaped the world in a negative way. A stock marketcrash has been defined as a sudden dramatic decline of stockprices across a significant cross section of a stock market, resulting in a significant loss of paper wealth. Crashes are caused mainly by inadequate management of the stock market. The 1929 Stock Market crash was the result of multiple economic disproportions and lack of organizational structure. Many people think that the Great Depressionwas caused because of the crash; however, that is an entirely misled idea. The depression took place just after the crash, meaning it was not really its cause but the spark to the fire. Just before everything happened, the market was as high as it could ever be.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Just as people could feel the side effects of the crash back in 1929, still today we can feel the effects of the crash in 2008. When the recession occurred, about 9 million people had lost their jobs by 2009 in the United States and housing prices had fell to their lowest point. It has been seven years since the market has gone down that severely; however, it has recovered greatly since the crisis ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Pruriceptive Itch For the most part we all itch subconsciously to gain relief from minor disturbances on our skin. But most of us have probably experienced itches that go far beyond this level to the point where an itch can take over you entire mind for several minutes. As an example of a more extreme case a patient with HIV from Massachusetts developed a severe deep crawling itch on the right side of her scalp in response to shingles medication. Her scratching intensified at night time and one unfortunate morning she woke up to find green liquid on her hands. When she got to the hospital she was immediately admitted into an Emergency department. She had scratched through her skull and into her brain (Gawande). Scientists classify itches in four categories pruriceptive (skin irritation and inflammation), neuropathic (chronic itching due to nerve damage), neurogenic (activation of the CNS without stimulus), and psychogenic (mental illness). Pruriceptive itch, the most common type, can be triggered by stimulation of pruriceptors by mechanical, thermal and even chemical mediators such as histamines which are part of our body s immune response (HowStuffWorks). It is easy to think that the need to itch is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The authors also make the important observation that pain has the ability to suppress itch which is shown when the mechanical pain of a scratch masks an itch, but never see an itchy sensation relive pain (Sun). This led the authors to believe that pain and itch have common neuronal paths but somehow our CNS is able to distinguish these sensations. Their new selectivity theory claims that itch stimuli are itch neuron specific while painful stimuli activates a wide range of neurons that ultimately inhibits the itch sensation while producing the pain ... • 4. Casual Wear By James Merrill As humans in order to connect and relate to those around us we tend to judge other people and what they believe in. If we agree with them about a topic then we are able to connect with them by discussing the similar opinions we have on that specific topic. If we disagree with them on a topic then we can examine why and look at the topic from a different perspective. Often though, if we do not agree with someone else s beliefs or opinions, we will criticize them without making much of an effort to understand where they are coming from. Along with having a closed mind to others opinions, we do not look at our own opinions to see how they could be flawed or be seen as absurde. In James Merrills poem Casual Wear the author uses contrasting images to drive a point across to the reader about how we are hypocrites when we criticize others values and what they will do to make their opinion known and standing up for what they believe in, instead believing that we are innocent when we make our own opinions known. Merrill can see that we are hypocrites in thinking that we are innocent when standing up for our values, but when others stand up for their own they just cause damage, and he tries to make this known to us through his poem. In the first stanza of Merrill s poem we are given a description of an average tourist. Someone you would see on any day walking down the street. Merrill makes it so we can relate to this tourist by making the character someone we have all been at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Rogers View Of The Good Life My Thoughts: Rogers description of the good life as a direction is incredibly different from the American perspective that happiness is a singular goal one can achieve. We often think that, once we reach a point in life where we re happy, that we ll stay that way indefinitely. Rogers perspective is less palatable, but probably more accurate. My Thoughts: To me, this was Roger s most interesting and thoughtprovoking quote. When he says that someone living the good life would very likely not be a conformist, it makes me think about the fact that most people are conformists. I don t think being a conformist is a fixed aspect of who people are, but I do think it s very hard to overcome for people who have lived much of their lives that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I think that the people close to us have a responsibility to tell us how they perceive our behavior. Whether or not we agree with it, it s still helpful to know that others may not always take things as we mean them to. This quote made me think of an argument I had with my step father when I was around 12 or so. We were talking about how the constant arguments we had were making the house a very negative place to be. I said, Well, if you don t like it, you can leave! He perceived that as me telling him to get out of the house, but I meant that because he was an adult and had a car and money, he was able to drive away from the house if he wanted and take a break from it, whereas I was stuck there. We didn t clear up the misunderstanding at the time, but when I talked to my brother later that night, he pointed out to me that that was how everyone else in the family had taken my comment. I would never have even considered that that was how they would have heard it, but having that pointed out to me has made me more cognizant of the way I word things, even now, almost 10 years later. By pointing out to me how my words were taken by the rest of the family, I was able to grow in my ability to consider others ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Impact Of Race On The Gender Wage Gap And Women Overall Equality of wages in America is of high concern and has been for a long period of time. On no account of America s history, have women and men s wages ever been equal, rather they have always had a significant gap between them. This has seen women as undervalued, causing a lot of discrimination and hardship in the workplace for women. Especially for women of color the wage gap is even larger. The pay gap in America affects women of all ages, races, and education levels but what can they do to close it? What is the impact on race on the gender wage gap and women overall is a topic everyone should be informed. It refers to unequal treatment or perceptions of people based on gender. Many people will agree because there s a lot going on about double standards. Since the 1920 s women have been put after men. Now in modern times, the realization that men and women can produce the same results, have the same education, and have the same capacity to accomplish the same overall tasks as men is becoming more popular (Varnell)1. People are starting to realize that women can accomplish the same things as men but they still don t get their recognition. Gender inequality seems to have more problems in the workplace. The gender pay gap has been an issue forever. Wage discrimination exists when workers are equally qualified and perform the same work but one group of workers is paid more than another. The American Association University of Women is releasing a new study that shows when men and women attend the same kind of college, pick the same major and accept the same kind of job, on average, the woman will still earn 82 cents to every dollar that a man earns (Coleman)1. The pay gap is even greater for African American and Latina women. African American women earning 64 cents and Latina women earning 56 cents for every dollar earned by a white non Hispanic man. Of course it s a racial issue because the caucasians have always been the superior race. • 9. Maxine Hong Kingston s No Name Woman Maxine Hong Kingston, a first generation Chinese American, searches for her identity by comparing her own American traditions with her parent s old China traditions. Although Kingston grew up in California, her family roots remain deep within her culture. She is an active feminist and the author of two well known books, The Woman Warrior (1970) and ChinaMen (1980). In No Name Woman, Kingston explores the treatment, values and life of the women of old China in the 1920s. In No Name Woman, which is Chapter One of The Woman Warrior: Memoirs of a Girlhood among Ghosts, Kingston learns from her mother that she once had an aunt who killed both herself and her newborn baby by jumping into the family drinking well in China. Kingston relates that the woman s husband had left the country years before to provide for the family in America, so the villagers knew the child was illegitimate. The night that the baby was born, the villagers raided and destroyed the family house; consequently, the woman gave birth in a pigsty. Kingston s mother further explains that the next morning she found her sister in law and the baby had plugged up the well. The woman had brought such disgrace upon her family that they decided to pretend that she had never been born. Kingston s mother tells the story as a cautionary tale to her daughter, in the years Kingston begins to menstruate. Her mother warns her to be careful lest the same fate fall upon her. • 10. The Performance Characterization Of Two Multileaf... Paper title: Head To Head Performance Characterization of Two Multileaf Collimator Tracking Algorithms for Radiotherapy Method Introduction The goal of this study was to compare algorithms performance using the span of motion complexity and MLC modulation that may be expected during clinical practice. MLC plans and motion input Selected abdominal/thoracic and pelvic tumor motions were all obtained by Per Polsen [1, 2] as representing characteristic three dimensional motion patterns for those sites. For the lung, motions represented a typical motion , high frequency breathing, predominantly lateral motion and characterized baseline shift from planned position. The represented prostate motions were continuous drift, persistent excursion from planned position, transient excursion and high frequency excursion. Low and high modulation treatment plans differ in MLC modulation to span the MLC complexity expected during clinical practice. The relevance of modulation in the context of MLC tracking is that as the complexity of modulation increases, so does the complexity for the fitting algorithm to calculate the best fitted aperture given physical constraints. These plans were created by Keall et al [ref] and used by multiple others studies [ref]. Keall created the MLC plans by forcing constraints on the optimizer to privilege the PTV for low modulation plan whereas constraints were expanded to critical structure for the high modulation plan. Four plans were created for each ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Reduce it to 35 hours. 2. david says: July 28th, 2009 at 2:33 pm In the short term the staggered week does not improve building energy efficiency. In the long term it could be substantially better, because you build based on the 80% of people that are there on any given workweek, rather than for the full workforce. Smaller buildings = less energy use, in addition to the fewer resources used to put the building up in the first place. 3. Putting their lives on the line, as was the case more for the Suffragists, or leading community rallies, as the Suffragettes, there was no stopping the inevitable. Women would win the right to vote. No doubt the party bus rentals were going nuts in 1918. I m often touted by friends for not being realistic enough for the topic I spend so much time supporting, but I believe, even with all the horrors many women endure, that women can and will unite to free themselves. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Suffrage Movement Beginning in 1848 the worldwide women s rights movement eventually included forty three different countries. The basic rally was for women to be given the equalities of men. Groups were fighting for different laws to be changed within the cultural boundaries of their country, but the bottom line was and still is, that women demand more respect. The two major players on the stage of change for women were known as the Suffragist and the Suffragettes. These two fractions of the whole succeeded in supporting each other to victory. Some would still argue that women, even in developed countries, still have a long way to go before the male/female playing field is completely level. Suffragist Both groups were passionate about their cause, however the Suffragist were more militant about getting their message heard. In many locations, competition is steep causing tight markets and desire to win an edge. Harrah s approach is much different; they focus on marketing based attraction and consider their bread and butter to be in guest services and consumer satisfaction. Some people still have old watches and record players that have been passed down through generations, which remain in working condition. In reality, most items, which were made prior to World War I, have been found to be long lasting, durable, and reliable. In contemporary society we are faced with a dilemma, due to the fact that if all products were built to last as they were previously, various industries would shut down, and consequently, millions of workers would become unemployed. Furthermore, the overall goal and strategy of obsolescenceis to motivate the population to buy more, and additionally, be occupied within a perpetual cycle of consumerism by purchasing and replacing products in order to keep respective industries open, and to keep products flying off the shelves. During that time, I reviewed companies that had merged and their history. Some were horrible stories of people losing their jobs and a loss of the mission of the company. I think that in most of these cases (the ones I learned about through MBA) the merger was done out of fear. Their company was struggling to grow, had financial issues, or policy were changing the way they needed to do business. Perhaps this was why there were negative repercussions from the merger. I do realize that the merger of two or more companies does not come in a nice clean package. However, Grobman does a nice job reviewing how to begin a merger and the steps necessary for a merger. He reviews that each participating board should adopt a resolution in favor of the general principle of merging, should appoint a merger committee of board members and staff, use a outside experienced merger consultant, and have meetings scheduled to discuss goals of the merger, whether it is feasible, budgeting, laws, polices, and staff (Grobman, 2015, pg. 395). He is driven, as is the case when he is given the task to retrieve the Fleece, and his reaction proves strong, the idea of the great adventure was delightful to Jason . Another example of his resolve is when he speaks to King Aeetes and immediately states that he will do whatever service he would ask of them (the Argonauts ) in order to retrieve the Fleece. Furthermore, Jasonis able to overcome his fears to accomplish tasks. An example of this is when he is faced with a seemingly unbearable trial from King Aeetes, after which he for a time sat speechless. The contest seemed impossible. Finally, he answered I will make the trial, monstrous as it is . It should be noted that at this time, Jason was not aware of the help he would receive later from Medea. Lastly, Jason is skilled at motivating the right allies in times of need. While there is a negative side to this point, which I will address later, it is a vital characteristic of a hero to be resourceful. Jason is able to prolong the help he receives from Medea by persuading her that the two would be in love and have peace in Greece. By doing so, he was able to accomplish all his initial responsibilities. In my perspective, Jason is no saint. According to a live science, an article written by Mary Bagley, The Cretaceous Period was the last and longest segment of the Mesozoic Era. In the cretaceous period, the continent of Pangea was still breaking away from itself, forming what we now know as the seven world continents. In the many eras of dinosaurs, the cretaceous era was responsible for evolving some, but not all the dinosaurs from full land dinosaurs to some who were able to live both on land and in water, semi aquatic carnivorous dinosaurs. • 35. The Theory Of Social Construction A paradigm is a set of beliefs or assumptions that create the reality for a group. The values, moras, and habits, all of which are socially constructed, create the reality for the group. The theory of social construction is a theory that knowledge is constructed by humans for human use. We communicate using rhetoric, allowing others to see into those socially constructed ideas or paradigms. Rhetoric is the ability to ascertain and analyze, in any given context, the available means of persuasion. Persuasion is necessary to convince the audience of one s paradigms. The play, Angels In America, by Tony Kushner, focuses on two relationships that interconnect throughout the entire play. Kushner informs the reader of a typical dismal life of someone with AIDS during the Reagan and Bush eras. During this desperate time, self interest overtakes everything else, allowing the power dynamics to become even more clear and powerful. This hierarchy is socially constructed, but sets the reality for the unfortunate, marginalized lives of most of those contracted with AIDS. Through the writing technique, ASAAP, I will establish the act, scene, agent, agency, and purpose for each example. This fully explains each act literally and figuratively, so one is able to fully comprehend the meaning behind each act. Kushner displays the battle between liberals and conservatives, not only politically, but also personally. It is simple to see the power dynamics in Act III, Scene II when Roy scores ... • 36. Feminism In Willa Cather s O Pioneers ! Willa Cather, a nineteenth century American female writer, used her childhood experiences growing up on the great plains of Nebraska to write about a woman named Alexandra Bergson and her struggles on her family s farm on the Nebraskan frontier in the book, O Pioneers! ( Willa Sibert Cather ). The narrator follows Alexandra throughout her life, and shows how she became successful while overcoming the patriarchy. Conversely, Cather also wrote about a young, confused girl named Marie Tovesky, who found herself in a crumbling relationship, not sure if she loved the man she married, or Alexandra s sibling Emil. Her story both regales the reader with a tragedy, but also shows how others treated and oppressed women during that time. Cather s O Pioneers! tells the tales of two women who find themselves on varying levels of society, and uses their stories to address feminism. Alexandra Bergson grew up in the small town of Hanover, Nebraska on her family s farm, otherwise known as The Divide. After many catastrophes blighted the farm, her father, John Bergson was on the brink of death. Feminism first appears here, when, on his deathbed, John Bergson gave his farm to Alexandra because she was the one who ...read the papers and followed the markets, and who learned by the mistakes of their neighbors , and the one who ...could always tell about what it had cost to fatten each steer, and who could guess the weight of a hog before it went on the scales... With that being said its shows that we do not have the best, but that were also in the lower half of the chain. Many probably think how is that so, but the fact of the matter is that it is just so costly for good healthcare in our great country of the United States and without insurance, it makes it nearly impossible to pay for any medical expenses that we may face. Many would argue that we do have the best health care, and I would say they are not completely wrong, but where we fall short is that it is too expensive and more times than not people often make poor choices in taking care for their body even though there are ways to do so. I feel we could make drastic strides in moving up this ranking system by if we simply just changed our diets and made a little time to work out. • 41. Stock Characters In Roman Comedy In Roman comedy, the use of stock characters helped to represent common archetypes in society. Stock characters were also used to allow for audiences to easily understand a production, as the characters were so commonly seen. In modern movies and specifically American comedy, stereotypical characters are often used that demonstrate society s beliefs about certain types of people. These characters are often used satirically to mock the stereotypes that lead people to judge others. Regardless of when stock characters are utilized, they point to the ideas that a society has about certain types of people during a specific time period. The stock characterof the leno, or brothel keeper or pimp, is a character that many, if not all, Romans would have immediately recognized. The leno is represented in Plautus Pseudolus by a character named Ballio. He owns the love interest of Calidorus, master of Pseudolus, and is known for his greed and physical harshness towards his slaves. He is seen in the play constantly beating his slaves, and he calls them names such as whip spoilers (139), which indicates that Ballio beats them so much that his whip becomes spoiled. Ballio fits the classic definition of a leno, as he is extremely greedy and only cares about money. He compromises his morals constantly in order to make more money, and he almost seems proud to accept his bad character. The US utilized such an approach following the Civil War, when Southern manufacturing and industry had been devastated by the war. Though the actual physical capital in the south had been decimated by the war, what was of more concern was the newly skyrocketing labor costs for US firms. Proceeding the Emancipation Proclamation and subsequent constitutional amendments granting freedom and citizenship to African Americans, the extraordinarily cheap labor supply used in US industries was gone. Accordingly, many agriculture and manufacturing firms were witness to their costs rising to the point where they could not compete with imports. This led the US to enact high tariffs and import quotas that would allot the industries to rebuild and readjust to compete on an international level. This surely shows that the current minimum wage is not doing the job it was implemented to do, as families aren t being able to get by and maintain a good quality of life on these salaries.
