Carl Brashear Essay
Carl Brashear If it is difficulty that shows what men are, there should be no doubt about what kind
of man Carl Brashear is. The Navy s first African American Master Diver, Brashear faced
difficulties that would have defeated most people. His spirit and determination resulted not only in
his overcoming great oddsto become a U.S. Navy diver, but also in his surviving the loss of a leg
in an accident on the USS Hoist in 1966 and more amazingly in his attaining the rankof Master
Diver.
In the fall, Twentieth Century Fox will release The Diver, the story of Brashear s struggle. Cuba
Gooding Jr. stars as Brashear. The film also stars Robert DeNiro as Billy Sunday, a senior officer

Brashear had rigged a three legged spider with grappling hooks on each leg. It was attached to
the submersible Alvin, which would use it to attach parachute rigging to the bomb. The
apparatus worked beautifully and the bomb was brought to the surface. At 5:00 p.m., a shift in
the position of the ship that had pulled alongside the Hoist to receive the bomb caused a chain
of events that almost killed Carl Brashear and seemed certainly to have killed his career in the
Navy. During efforts to bring the bomb aboard, a swell caused an unexpected movement in the
ship s position. The timing was catastrophic. The atomic weapon slipped from the parachute
rigging and sank again, but even worse, a pipe broke loose from one of the ships and became a
deadly missile. Brashear saw the pipe break. I got all my sailors out of the way, but I didn t get
myself out of the way, he says.
The injuries he suffered were overwhelming, and so sudden that at first, he didn t know anything
was wrong. Only when he tried to put weight on his leg did he realize the extent of the damage.
He jokes about it today. I found that I didn t have a leg to stand on, he chuckles. Most of the
flesh on his leg was ripped away, leaving his foot attached only by the tendons in the back of his
calf. Bones were exposed and the bleeding was profuse. He also suffered head and internal injuries.

Salinity Stress on Plants Essay examples
Salinity Stress on Plants
All plants are subjected to a multitude of stresses throughout their life cycle. Depending on the
species of plant and the source of the stress, the plant will respond in different ways. When a
certain tolerance level is reached, the plant will eventually die. When the plants in question are crop
plants, then a problem arises. The two major environmental factors that currently reduce plant
productivity are drought and salinity (Serrano, 1999), and these stresses cause similar reactions in
plants due to water stress. These environmental concerns affect plants more than is commonly
thought. For example, disease and insect loss typically decrease crop yields by less than ten
percent, but severe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The plants that grow in saline soils have diverse ionic compositions and a range in concentrations
of dissolved salts (Volkmar et al., 1998). These concentrations fluctuate because of changes in water
source, drainage, evapo transpiration, and solute availability (Volkmar et al., 1998). Due to these
varying conditions, plant growth depends on a supply of inorganic nutrients, and this level of
nutrients varies in time and space (Maathius and Amtmann, 1999). Either extreme condition
concerning nutrients results in deficiency or toxicity in plants, and this is demonstrated by salt
tolerance (Maathius and Amtmann, 1999). These conditions vary according to the plant species
and growth conditions. Little is known about the genetic basis for diversity of salt tolerance in
plants, and this could be partly explained through the definitions given for salinity.
Plants in natural environments are being exposed to increasing amounts of salinity. One third of
the land being irrigated worldwide is affected by salinity, but salinity also occurs in non irrigated
land (Allen et al., 1994). There are large areas of primary salinity, but secondary salinity can be
detected within one hundred years of settlement on an area of land. Drought and salinity are
connected because in many regions, raising plants requires irrigation. The irrigation water contains
calcium, magnesium, and sodium (Serrano et al., 1999). As the water evaporates and transpires,
calcium and magnesium

What Is The Importance Of Operations Management
OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT
Introduction:
Detail of operations management
TASK 1
Explain why businesses give importance to the operation (1.1)
Operations management (OM) is that phase of an organization where inputs are put into operations
to acquire required output (services) without compromising on quality. In other words operations
management is also described as combining and transforming various resources in the operations
sub system into value added services in line with formulated policies of the organization. (Kumar
and Suresh, 2009)
IMPORTANCE OF OM
Operations Management explores the way organizations produce and distribute goods and services.

Operations management is based on short term planning and objectives, utilizing resources of the
company upto optimum level e.g proper employment of human resources, material and other fixed
non current assets. Above mentioned methods are being put into practice at McDonald?s to achieve
the desired goals and objectives both long term and short term.
In strategic management only top level managers participate in formulation of long term planning
and objectives, whereas top to bottom managers participate in operation management to achieve the
set goals and objectives in line with decisions taken in strategic management. Only effective
implementation of operations management can ensure achievement of long term goals and
objectives. McDonald?s has effectively employed different skills and techniques for the
achievement of long term as well as short term goals and objectives chalked out in their strategic
management and operations management. That is what makes McDonald?s a vibrant and large

My Definition Of Success Essay
Success is like a delicate red rose blooming, everyone is successful at doing their own thing. My
own definition for success is being wealthy because if we do not have any money, we will not
get anywhere in life. First, my definition for success is being wealthy and having progress in life.
No money means no successes in the future for the new generation of people. Second, Donald
Trump is a successful president because he has the money and dignity to be successful. Last, Dolly
Parton is successful at making money. She first started out in the country music business then she
decided that she wants to make everyone happy, so that is why she made Dollywood. After that
she was making progress, so therefore, that is how she is a huge success.... Show more content on

There is no other president like Trump because he has the dignity to help others and to help the
United States. Without common sense, everything will be lost and no one will have any faith in
their selves. With common sense, people are successful just like Donald Trump when he
became president. Given these points, Donald Trump serves as a successful president of the
United States. To emphasize, Dolly Parton is very successful because she first started a country
music singer at the Grand Ole Opry at Tennessee. As the years passed, she had a great idea to
create Dollywood to make every boy and girl happy. Once she got the amazing theme park
opened, everyone came running in to ride all of the rides. That was when all of the money came
rolling in to her. Altogether, Dolly is successful for creating Dollywood and to make people happy.
In conclusion, success is being filthy rich and quite helpful. Donald Trump is successful because
he got to be the president of the United States. Another successful thing is that Dolly Parton started
out in the country music business, then she got a splendid idea to create the amazing theme park
of Dollywood. Success can come to a lot of people, only if they can accomplish their

Conception and Birth of Heroes in Greek Mythology Essay
Hero, the word strikes a universal chord making us think of exceptional and spectacular stories or
deeds that far surpass any common feat. To the Greeks and many other cultures, the birth of these
heroes is important. The birth of a hero sets them, apart often even before birth, from common
mortals in Greek mythology. Birth is the first of many major events in our lives, our entrance into
the world (Leeming). For heroes, that entrance must be as special as their lives will prove to be. A
mundane birth is simply not an option for a hero, whether by the machinations of the gods or
prophecies from an oracle, even the events surrounding their conception must be spectacular. From

Theseus, born of Aethra and Poseidon, grew up secretly in Troezen keeping him protected from
those who would harm him. Thus, claiming the items his father left him and setting out for Athens,
he started on the path leading to many great and heroic adventures. Hercules, born of Alcmena and
Zeus, was conceived when Zeus took the form of Alcmena s husband and lay with her. Her true
husband lay with her again later that night and she conceived twins. One would be born to her
human husband, and the other fathered by Zeus himself (Hamilton). Zeus bragged about his
soon to be born son alerting and infuriating Hera to Hercules existence. Hera was notorious for
tormenting her husbands illegitimate offspring since she couldn t harm Zeus outright for his
infidelity (Hamilton). Hera persuaded Eileithyia to slow Alcmena s labor in a fit of piquГ©,
almost killing her (Hamilton). Alcmena in fear of Hera s wrath gave her son to nature. Zeus (in
some accounts Hermes) stole him away to Olympus, where he suckled at Hera s breast while she
lay sleeping, granting him immortality (McLeish). When Hera awoke during the suckling she
pushed Hercules away and the milk that sprayed out formed the Milky Way (Leeming). Zeus took
the infant and placed him back in his crib before departing to Olympus again. Enraged Hera sent
two massive serpents to kill Hercules and his brother as they lay sleeping

12 Angry Men Disagreement
The noble art of disagreement has molded society over time and diversified the perspectives of
its inhabitants. Disagreement is what separates someone from society, forms his or her identity,
and releases him or her from the herd mentality. It is with great courage that someone opposes
and challenges the beliefs of society, but when someone does so successfully, change is bound to
occur. Therefore, the most beloved leaders in history tended to be the ones that dared to disagree
and sacrificed their status to have their voices be heard. Those leaders have challenged many of
society s oldest traditions and beliefs: the superiority of a specific race, the discrimination of
genders and sexualities, or the prejudice certain religions. However, anytime people decide to agree
solely for the feeling safety and comfort, they are not only hurting themselves but potentially others.
Surrounding yourself with others that consistently agree with you can be a very dangerous thing.
Living in an echo chamber reinforces the individual s beliefs, even if they are incorrect or immoral,
and results in severe tunnel vision. The failure to reprimand or disagree about the morality of a
decision results in the inability for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

common verdict, hopefully confident in their decision. However, in a criminal case, if one juror out
of the twelve were to vote innocent, then the jury must take the extra time to debate and
unanimously decide on verdict. In a situation like that, it is easy to understand the temptation to
give in to the overwhelming majority, but maintaining integrity and choosing to disagree forces the
jury to reevaluate the evidence and their verdict. It only takes one opposing voice to prompt a
discussion and only positive change can result from well rounded and thorough

Illegal Border Crossing In Canada
Since April of 2016 the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has reported more than 400
refugee claimants illegally crossing the Canadian border. Many of the migrants are reported to be
entering Canada along the Manitoba border from Minnesota, landing in the small town of
Emerson which rests on the 520km stretch of border that the CBSA and RCMP are responsible for
securing and monitoring. Quebec has also experienced an influx of refugee claimants illegally
entering their border, approximately 823 between April and November of 2016. The amount of
migrants illegally entering Canadathrough this stretch of border has increased in recent years,
resulting in calls for the government to implement comprehensive measures to control the illegal
crossings and apply the current laws that require migrants to enter legally through Canada s
immigrationprocess.

Temper Vs Birth Order Essay
I was the second/last child born in my family. I feel that birth order has had a true effect on my
behavior and my personality. It s very easy to compare me with my brother. My brother is the
oldest. He strives to achieve his goal and , as of right now, he s doing a pretty well job with
striving. Comparing him with me, I am more of a social person. I like to hangout with my
friends and be social. I am also more humorous than many people may think. He is more of a
serious person. Also, he sometimes worries about me, only because he wants me to make sure I
achieve my goals just as he is trying to achieve his. Achieving goals isn t just something my
brother does just because he is first born. An Iranian culture is very goal oriented. My dad
always told me that if I want to pursue a career as a lawyer or a doctor, I must do what I can to
get to that goal. Since then, I have been interning at the Milton City Court and Milton Police
Department to help me get to my goal to be a lawyer. Nature vs. Nurture has played a huge part in

Our Dependence On The Electronic Tools
The way in which we store, process, and retrieve information, in other words, our schemas, has
been altered by the use of the web. Our dependence on the electronic tools we interact with on a
daily basis may have altered how we communicate what we have learned to others. The
traditional manner of structuring argument may have been replaced by a more diffuse manner
that parallels the format of web content (Rusciano Xia, 2013). Our knowledge structure has
moved from print based to web based (Rusciano Xia, 2013) and our use of the web has moved
the way our knowledge is organized and shared (Rusciano Xia, 2013). The traditional form of
knowledge is in an indexical linear structure, which ...has formed the basis for the creation of
writing, and reached maturity in the linear visual space of the printing press; it remains the core of
contemporary knowledge dissemination and acquisition (Rusciano Xia, 2013). The web, however,
works in an entirely different manner. ...this structure through the web centers on the concept of an
associative system of organizing and presenting information that is nonsequential and open ended
(Rusciano Xia, 2013). While the Internet is still a fairly new invention, it is not an entirely new
concept. Vannevar Bush had a big vision in 1945 of what the power of machines could do for
organizing and retrieving information. He dreamt up a device, which he called the memex
machine. Bush s imaginative machine allows for the entire body of human

The Environmental Impacts Coming From Developing Mineral
The environmental impacts coming from developing mineral and energy resources from open pit
mining mainly comes from the extraction of the material once it has been deemed cost effective
to extract. What most often occurs when a site is being mined is that the material removed from
the dig site gets displaced over to the side in an area such as an open quarry mine. After the
materials are extracted the waste material is not placed back and neither is any vegetation that was
once there. One way that could help the surrounding environment would be to keep record of the
amount of material and/or vegetation removed and replace it with a similar amount once the
required material has been extracted. This would give the wildlife that had been... Show more

Mining is a relatively temporary activity due to the limited operating lives of the mining sites,
which are determined by the size and quality of the ore deposit being mined. Water is used in a
variety of applications at mine sites such as the diverting of surface water and the pumping out of
groundwater, which is a concern to all living creatures. The waste water runoff in open pit mining,
after rain water that flows through the mine, can collect numerous hazardous materials and wash
them into nearby streams or rivers. Having a collection well downhill from the mining site can aid
in the collection of this waste water runoff, but would only help if the tank never reached an
overflow situation. Mining operations can work to reduce the quantity of water used and increase
the quality of water available downstream for aquatic ecosystems and other industrial and
municipal water users, especially in areas with dry climates. In Canada, mining had one of the
highest water recycling rates among the industrial divisions, and between 1996 and 2005 reduced
its total water intake around 30%. This drop in the water use happened around the same time that
the value of production increased around 45%, meaning that the water intake per dollar of their
production had also declined. Water management strategies are being used at most

individuals use ways uncover their memorythrough distorting the truth, make someone to believe

Balfour Declaration Of Independence
In 1917, before the United Nations was even created, the British government published the Balfour
Declaration which supported the creation of a Jewish state in Palestine (Immell 16). Inevitably,
bad feelings were going to rise between the native Arabs of Palestine and this new Balfour
Declaration that favored taking away some of Palestineland and setting it aside for Jewish
immigrants. Over the next 20 years, the number of Jews immigrating to Palestine increased due to
the Zionist movemnt, and so did Arab Jewish tensions. From 1936 1939, a large group of Arabs
revolted. This revolt was led by leaders who were unwilling to give any Palestine land for the
establishment of a Jewish nation (Cottrell 32 35). After this revolt and the growing Zionist
movement, it would have seemed apparent to the United Nations that the Arabs and Jews in
Palestine needed to be separated. So although the United Nations did pass Resolution 181 which
essentially created the Jewish nation, Israel, the United Nations merely carried out the legislature
that was promised from the Balfour Declaration of the British government. By not being able to

Mending Wall Figurative Language
The poem, Mending Wall by Robert Frost is about the word wall which has many different
meanings both physically and emotionally depending on the way the word is used. Physically, a
wall is a man made structure which can be made of brick, stone, wood, metal, drywall, glass or
any type of material. The material used to erect a vertical wall and the size of the walldepends on
the purpose of the wall. The size of the wall is determined by the person building the wall. The
outdoor wall can differ drastically from an indoor wall. The outdoor wall purposes vary from a
property boundary, to keep mulch and dirt in flower beds or vegetable gardens, to block a view, to
prevent people from wandering off path, and as a way to keep animals... Show more content on

Undoubtedly, a wall is perceived to be unfriendly to the people who are on the other side looking
in. To emphasize the point, Frost uses figurative language to describe what the wall is separating
by comparing the two neighbors as trees on lines 24 when he says He is all pine and I am apple
orchard. The wall acts as a barrier between the two neighbors and the poet indicates this on line
25 says My apple trees will never get across . The reader gains a sense of how different the
neighbors, the value of the wall and alludes to the reason in which the wall is a good neighbor.
One neighbor sees the benefit of the wall as keeping their properties separated when he states on
line 27 Good fences make good neighbors viewing the wall as a necessity to maintain separation
and privacy and a barrier from interacting with the other neighbor. The neighbor refers to the wall
as a fence way to separate their properties and acts as a good neighbor because it maintains their
privacy on their property. The wall is a good neighbor because the wall provides a boundary
from each other so they can maintain their privacy and limit social interactions. The purpose of
the wall is to keep out or off the property. The other neighbor finds the wall unfriendly and
offensive since it does not serve a purpose and on line 33 saying What I was walling in or
walling out, and views the wall as pointless since there are no cows. The purpose of the wall is a
way to keep something inside to prevent it from going outside the wall. The neighbor cannot
figure out what they have to keep inside the wall. The wall is unfriendly and cold and emotionally
creates a barrier between the two neighbors as a message of being unloved because the wall is a
division preventing social

Biological Macromolecule Polyhydroxybutyrate ( Phb )
ABSTRACT
The important biological macromolecule polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) producing Bacillus subtilis
was isolated from the sewage sample and identified by means of 16S rRNA analysis. The
renewable nature and biodegradability of PHBs make them suitable materials to replace synthetic
plastics in many applications. Currently their production is expensive, but these plastics are only
in their first stage of commercial development. In the present study the physico chemical
parameters such as Time, Temperature and pH were optimized for increased production of PHB. It
was found that maximum production of PHB was observed at 48th hour (328Вµg/ml) of
incubation time, temperature 370C (336Вµg/ml), pH 7.5 (362 Вµg/ml). The low cost production
media was developed using fruit peel extract and sugarcane industrial waste. The amount of PHB
produced using low cost production media in fruit peel (234Вµg/ml) and industrial waste (218Вµg
/ml). The PHB was characterized using FTIR and NMR analysis.

Understanding the Marangoni Effect
To understand the Marangoni effect it is essential to understand Rayleigh BГ©nard instability. The
Rayleigh BГ©nard convection instability occurs in a plane horizontal layer of fluid heated from
the bottom. The fluid develops a regular pattern of convection cells known as BГ©nard cells. The
convection patterns are the most carefully examined example of self organizing nonlinear systems.
Gravity and hence Buoyancy, is the major driving force for the Rayleigh BГ©nard Marangoni
convection instability. The initial movement is the upwelling of lesser density fluidfrom the heated
bottom layer. This upwelling spontaneously organizes into a regular pattern of cells called
BГ©nard cells.
The dimensionless Rayleigh number (RaL), which essentially expresses the balance between
gravity and viscous forces is given by Where,
Tu is the Temperature of the top plate
Tb is the Temperature of the bottom plate
L is the height of the container.
g is the acceleration due to gravity.
ОЅ is the kinematic viscosity.
О± is the Thermal diffusivity
ОІ is the Thermal expansion coefficient
The critical Rayleigh number (RC) is the threshold over which the convection cells appear. RC ~
1100.65 for a Marangoni set up with controlled boundary conditions.
Rayleigh BГ©nard convection experiments used fluids heated from below with a confining plate
on the top surface. In case of BГ©nard Marangoni convection arrangement, the top surface does not
have a confining plate and is free to move and deform.

Many youths, both men, and women started to challenge the traditional social patterns. Young
women no longer saw anything good with longer dresses that hid their body shape, decided to style
up, and began to wear new fashioned dresses that exposed some parts of their bodies. Many young
women started drinking alcohol with adults in public and smoking cigarettes for the first time.
Instead of participating and listening to the normal traditional music, young people changed their
perception of music and started listening to jazz. They abandoned their traditional dances that were
embraced by their parents and grandparents and adopted modern type of dancing, which involved
too much holder. The film industry also improved, though it was incorporated immorality such as
sex films, production of sex tapes, and books that lead to homosexuality and early engagement in
sex, which was not allowed traditionally. Hence, young citizens mostly challenged traditional social

Project Delivery Methods For Distinct Allocation Of Risk...
Project delivery methods allow for distinct allocation of risk and responsibilities within a
construction contract. Each unique construction project calls for a defined delivery method and a
written contract in order to ensure the success of the venture. A project delivery option is defined as
a method for procurement which the owner s assignment of delivery risk and performance for
design and construction has been transferred to another party (Mahdi 564). After a legal and
appropriate contract is signed, contractual privity exists which allows the contracting parties to hold
each other responsible for their actions. The design bid build delivery method is often referred to
the traditional method of contractual relationships in the construction industry. This method allows
the owner to select a design professional based off of the quality of their work, whereas the
selection of the construction manager is based off competitive bids submitted after the completion
of the design. The traditional method may be viewed as the tried and true system of creating
successful contractual relationships, but the evolution of the industry has called for this method to
take on different forms. One such form is the construction manager at risk (CMR) method, which
allows for collaboration between the owner, designer, and construction manager during the early
stages of the design process and continues throughout the life of the construction project. This
agreement makes up thirty percent

Moltenberg Sex
These readings challenged many of the beliefs I had regarding sex and sexuality. It is only now
that, after reading the pieces by Seidman, Stoltenberg, and Fausto Sterling, I can see my previous
assumptions were based on my experiences living in a society that reinforces binaries and
conditions individuals to feel obligated to choose between two opposite and mutually exclusive
categories that don t actually exist. Seidman s decoupling of sex and reproduction, Stoltenberg s
acknowledgement of sexuality as a continuum, and Fausto Sterling s exploration of the experiences
of intersex individuals shed light on the intricacies of sex and sexuality that norms usually try to
subvert. Heterosexualityis often given a privileged position in society... Show more content on

Humans must recognize that sex is a continuum, and that We are... a multisexed species
(Stoltenberg 25). To limit sex to man and woman is to oversimplify the vast combinations that
genuine, consenting individuals are making. The identification as male is a conscious step into an
inner circle, a circle that separates itself through interests and values identified as male and through
a rejection or non identification with that which is perceived to be non male, or female (Stoltenberg
29). By accepting a spectrum sexuality opens one up to un gender their sexuality so as to not be
suppressed by the limitations imposed by a sexual identity. Anne Fausto Sterling further separates
sex from sexual identity by discussing the experiences of intersex individuals. Despite what society
expects of those who don t neatly fit into the binary, intersex individuals generally manage to live
happy lives. After this reading, it seems ridiculous that society has been allowed to determine what
a person s genitalia should be. As America begins to become more accepting of homosexuality,
hopefully those who genitalia is a mixture of both male and female sex organs will also find

Sherlock The Abominable Bride Analysis
The third trailer for Sherlock: The Abominable Bride is a mere forty three seconds with only the
first thirty five seconds actually showing clips from the episode, yet the trailer is fraught with
layers of rhetoric. The trailer can be found on the YouTube channel Sherlock and was published
December 12th, 2015. Sherlock: The Abominable Bride was an episode released in between
seasons three and four and directed by Douglas Mackinnon. The trailer itself is much too short to
inform the viewer of what transpires in the episode, rather, it is a compilation of scenes that pose a
question and give a promise.
The first thing one notices when watching the trailer is the use of space and dimensions. There are
primarily two types of spaces used in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sherlock does this in two ways. The first by posing a question and the second offering a promise.
As previously stated, the trailer crafts a question by creating a contradiction that the question is
based on. The question is the strongest persuasive technique used by the trailer. The second
technique is a promise. Within less than a minute, the trailer makes two promises. The first one
is a promise of humor. There are ten pieces of dialogue within the trailer. Four of those are used
to make just one joke. Sherlock says, to the morgue! There s not a moment to lose. Which one
can so rarely say of a morgue. The joke is placed almost directly in the middle of the trailer. For
most of the trailer the atmosphere is dark and intense, yet for six seconds in the middle of the
trailer, the atmosphere shifts suddenly. The joke seems to be a complete outlier. It does not
follow the intensity of the rest of the trailer. The only practical reason that the joke is there must
be to give promise. The trailer promises that although the episode will be intense, there will also be
lighter, funnier moments. The second promise is a little less obvious. It goes hand and hand with
the question. The promise is that the question will be answered. To do this the trailer poses little
questions, such as who is hiding? by using confined spaces. The trailer then answers the question
by showing and saying the avenging ghost and the bride. So when the trailer leaves viewers with an
unanswered question, they believe that the episode will answer it because they have been trained
by the trailer to believe so. The trailer also says that Sherlock will give the answers, which is ever
so softly implied by the way Sherlock says things. To illustrate, he says I know it can t and to the
morgue, there s not a moment to lose. Sherlock makes these statements with a voice of knowledge
and control. He gives viewers a

Money Laundering Essay
Money laundering , is a term that is often used in association with illegal activities, especially in
terms of terrorist actions. Many news reports in televisions and newspapers have used the term
money laundering but still, the general public do not have enough knowledge of what money
laundering is and the corresponding effects upon society. In line with this, there is also a need to
further study the processes that are involved in money laundering in order to properly address the
aforementioned illegal action. Being the case, there is a need to define the term money laundering
and its relevance to important social issues. Moreover, due attention should also be given in the

In the modern definition, money laundering occurs every time any transaction takes place or
relationship is formed which involves any form of property or benefit, whether it is tangible or
intangible, which is derived from criminal activity (Hopton, p.2). In relation to this, it is also
important to point out that criminal proceeds do not have to be moved in order to launder them
(Hopton, 2009). The modern definition of money laundering highlights important points that
describe money laundering. Contrary to the common belief that laundering only involves illegal
money, there are also cases wherein the money is legal but the failure of an individual to properly
declare it as income on a tax return is also recognized as laundering. Furthermore, the traditional
view of money laundering involves the purpose that criminals result to laundering in order to
identification, punishment, and confiscation of their ill gotten wealth. The traditional perspective
is not incorrect but it is also essential to highlight that the primary aim of criminals is not the
conversion of property but rather the need to hide the fact that they actually own the property. The
purpose of the criminals is to remove the link between them and the property so that it cannot be
related to the criminal offence that they wish to avoid. As a result, money laundering is more

A Presentation Of The National Nanotechnology Initiative (...
1. Introduction.
There s plenty of room at the bottom ; this statement by Richard Feynman in 1959 during a
presentation to a meeting of the American Physical Society, is widely accepted as the spark that
initiated the present nano age1. Nano, dwarf in Greek, is defined as one billionth, it follows that
the nanoscale is measured in nanometres, or 10 9 m. To put this in perspective; the average strand
of a human hair is roughly 75,000 nm in diameter, or from the other extreme 1 nm is the length of
10 hydrogen atoms lined up end to end.
Nanotechnology can be difficult to define, as its definition is often engineered to suit the researcher
and their field; this resulted in a need of a general working definition, which the national
nanotechnology initiative (NNI) established []. Nanotechnology is thus defined as possessing the
following features;
Nanotechnology involves research and technology development at the 1 nm to 100 nm range.
Nanotechnology builds on the capability to organize or manipulate at the atomic scale.
Nanotechnology creates and uses structures that have novel properties because of their small size.
.
2. Nanotechnology
Nanoscience involves a study of nanotechnology and nanomaterials, of which at least one of the
dimensions is in 1 100 nm range. Over the past two decades, nanomaterials have been a topic of
both scientific and technological interest2. Due to their compact dimension and enlarged surface
area, these materials possess new physical and

women by representing them in visual means as passive, sexual objects of male desire. The

Human development, but for the sake of time, we will only go into depth on three of the four. The
three theories that we will discuss are Behaviorism theory, Psychoanalytic Theory, and Ecological

Psychosocial development theory, Social Learning Theory, and Operant Conditioning as they
relate to the counseling field today. We will go into depth about each one as they relate to the
counseling field. We will also discuss how they relate to the nature versus nurture debate. To start
us off we will discuss the overlook or Big Picture Theory called Ecological Systems Theory. The
Ecological Theory was established by a man named Urie Bronfenbrenner. This theory has five
systems the Microsystem, Mesosystem, Exosystem, Macrosystem, and Chronosystem (Hall,
Hernandez, Justice, Wong, 2015). The Microsystem is the immediate surroundings of a person. For
instance, the microsystem is someone s immediate family. The mesosystem incorporates where the

A Series Of Biochemical Tests
A series of biochemical tests were conducted in order to determine the identity of an unknown gram
negative bacterium. The unknown had the potential to be one of six different gram negative
bacteria: Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterobacter aerogenes, Proteus mirabilis,
Klebsiella pneumonia, or Salmonella typhirmurium. After using the T streak method to isolate pure
colonies and confirming the gram negative nature of the unknown bacterium the unknown was
subjected to seven biochemical tests and the results compared to the results of the six known
bacteriafor the same tests. After performing the Triple Sugar Iron Agar Test, Sulfur Indole Motility
Test, Methyl Red Test, Voges Proskauer Test, Citrate Test, Urease Test, and Gelatin Test it was
confirmed that identity of Unknown #15 was Salmonella typhirmurium.
While all bacteria retain basic qualities identifying them as prokaryotes they do not function, grow,
or even metabolize in the same way. These differences distinguish bacterial species from one
another, like a thumb print identifies a single individual from every other person on earth. Testing
for these unique factors through a series of biochemical tests and staining techniques allows for an
unknown bacterial strain s thumb print to be generated. From there the unknown s thumb print can
be compared to the thumb print of known bacterial species allowing for identification.

however have lead the heroes to a small restaurant in the rich part of town: hardly the place to be
discussing ultimate evil. The smell of decadent syrup cakes and aromatic tea permeates the air in
the stuffy, humid cafe. An old man sitting in a corner table waves ecstatically at the sight of the
adventurers. Any character who has met Rowley in the past can easily recognize him by the
vibrant white of his beard. Rowley wastes no time in explaining the ultimate evil once the heroes
are seated. He has placed an ornate lockbox on the table. Opening the lid reveals a series of holy
symbols and enchantments to, in his words,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He confides in the party that this is a Chronicler. A magical book that writes down that which
happens around it. He needs this particular one taken to the Grand Cleric in a distant land
because this Chronicler is broken, but nothing can destroy it. Sources holy, nor arcane. He even
tried to burn it! It has developed a mind of its own! Rowley yells. In fact, rumor has it, that this
book can bend reality to its will. Any time the book starts getting bored it will try to make the
story it is writing more interesting. This book is in fact the cause of dragon attacks, wars, sales at
the market and even turned its last owner into a kitten! He will offer the party whatever they wish
if they promise to take it to the Grand Cleric to have it destroyed. Rowley s tales are tall, but
certainly these rumors are nothing more than fanciful stories...

Postwar Era Entertainment Essay
The World of Entertainment During Postwar Era During the postwar era new convenient forms of
entertainment were created. That created struggles for others, such as hollywood. An equally
important factor to the changes, was Veterans coming back from the war with new priorities. The
content of movies, television, music, and literature was regulated heavily by the government such
as HUAC(Un American Activities committee). The entertainment industry fought for their rights,
thus obtaining more freedom of speech. The world of entertainment had many changes during the
postwar era leading to a successful industry. The fear of communism impacted hollywood in a way
where they were restricted from producing certain films, leading them to wanting more... Show

Entertainment not only consists of movies, music, and television but also literature. The beat
generation spoke against how materialistic people were, and they just simply spoke up that is why
they were seen as rebels. In the world of literature and art, the Beats stood in opposition to the
clean, almost antiseptic formalism of the early twentieth century Modernist, (The Beat Generation)
that is what the Beat generation stood up for. Where literature had a turning point was in 1956
when Howel was published by Allen Ginsberg. Censorship as a force for modulating public
discourse, in the realm of literature at least, came to an end (The Beat Generation). With their work
we can express ourselves anyway desired, without anyone coming after us. Although the government
had a valid reason to be worried which was the threat of communism, they believed their work had
the ideology of communism. The beat generation was very open minded, intelligent, and had
knowledge that still impact us today such as environmentalism. The entertainment industry had to
go through all of these changes so that they were able to reach true success. Also Veterans coming
back from the war with new priorities(Overview for Films made in Post WarEra) was a major
cause to the entertainment industry, they had to come up with ways to expand their content and
come up with new things. They had to fight for their right of freedom of speech, and although for
some it was a long fight they were able to obtain it. Today we have a variety of music, movies,
literature, and tv shows thanks to all those changes that took place during the postwar

Understanding the Modern State of Christianity as...
To understand the modern state of Christianity as evangelicals, it is necessary to realize that there
have been important changes to the point in which we are today (Fahrsh, 2006). Several doubts
among believers existed and this resulted in the existence of many movements. Some of these
movements include liberalism, neo orthodoxy and evangelical movement.
Theological movements
To begin with liberalism movement, it was more common in the 19th and 20th centuries. As the
term liberal implies the willingness that was there to explain and interpret the scripture according to
the current day philosophic perspectives (Wilbur, 2006). This involved the use of scientific
assumptions as they tried to achieve a better understanding and he points they see as appropriate
and important. This was done without the need to know whether the agreed terms was in
considerations of the previously known concepts and the correct doctrine. Much significance was
put across as interpreted scientifically in the text and on morality (Wilbur, 2006).
Second is the neo orthodox movement, it was more prominent and influential in the 20th century. It
is a theological movement that was common in Europe and America and was mainly known as
crisis or dialectical theology. It was led by a number of most influential theologians of that time,
including Emil Brunner, Reinhold Niebuhr, Nikolay Berdyayev and Paul Tillich (Ahlstrom, 2009).
They were mainly called neo orthodox since they spoke the traditional or the

We Exist to Be for One Another
WE EXIST TO BE FOR ONE ANOTHER
There are a few words you hear or read that never go away. We exist to be supernatural occurrence
laborers for each other, originates from Sr Joan Chittister, who happens to make the point that truly,
it is in group, when we live congruously with others, that we are called to develop.
Story has taught this from multiple points of view, and as of late I re read an old story, yet this time
with fresher eyes and ears, as I held these words in my brain and heart.
In The Bremen Town Musicians , a jackass, puppy, feline, and chicken, all past their prime, their
helpfulness to their holders now at an end, are abused, soon to be disposed of by their managers.
One by one they leave home and signing up with one another, they set out for Bremen, a town in
Germany.
The characters never really touch base in Bremen, however its huge that it is named in the title, as
it was a town known for its flexibility.
There, they want to procure a living as musical performers, envisioning they have an ability for this.
On the way, they come to bungalow and catch four thieves devouring and partitioning their sick
gotten picks up.
Remaining on one another s backs to show signs of improvement look, the hungry creatures
choose to perform for the men in any desire for being given a supper.
Their music a clamor of whinnying, crowing, mewing and yapping cause the terrified men to run
for their lives.
The creatures revel in the relinquished dinner

Renewable Energy Policies Operating At The Level Of The...
The world today, as we know it, acknowledges the impact of the carbon emission on the
surrounding environment with devastating effects such as global warming, rise of the ocean levels
and destruction of animal and vegetal life. Therefore, it started shifting towards more green sources
of energy such as renewable energy, ones that are more sustainable and more friendly to the
environment. European Union, one of the most advanced democratic models of our time, is one
of the key players at the global level which understands the need for this change in perspective and
constantly advocates for more elaborate policies and joined plans of action. The aim of this essay
is to analyse the three main renewable energypolicies operating at the level... Show more content on

The feed in tariffs could be explained simply by taking the cost of a particular system, dividing
that figure by the number of kilowatt/hours that the system can reasonably be expected to
generate over its service life (generally 20 years), and the result is the cost of that system per
kilowatt hour. Now, tack on whatever return on investment (ROI) is desired, and a feed in tariff
had been obtained. This approach allows a distinction to be made not only between different
renewables technologies (solar, wind, etc), but also between different system sizes. As an example
a big wind farm will undoubtedly produce more energy than the power collected from a certain
amount of solar rooftops. With offering different feed in tariffs for various system sizes, one can
ensure the economic viability of the various applications, thereby preventing windfall profits for
large projects.
1.2. Secondly, in the coming decades, the trend of liberalising energy markets will have to be
combined with ambitious environmental goals within the European Union (EU). Currently
prevailing incentive schemes (such as trade in tariffs) for renewable energy might not be in line
with liberalisation of international energy markets. A good example might be the disadvantage that
an operator which is situated near a greater renewable energy potential area, having to accept all the

Combination Therapy In Contemporary Psychotherapy
Last week, I went to grand rounds and watched a presentation by Dr. Susan J. Waller and Dr.
William T. Nay. Their presentation was titled The Role of Psychotherapy in Contemporary
Psychiatry, which aimed to find greater understanding of the dynamics that have changed
psychotherapy s role in modern psychiatry and medical education. Their present goal was to assure
VCU students and faculty that there are no problems or bias in VCU/MCV psychotherapytraining.
Currently, students are required to study psychotherapy, so Waller and Nay looked to find if it
was a necessary requirement. The lecture started off with a brief history of psychiatry. At it s birth
in the 1800s, psychiatry became a medical specialty to treat severely ill and severely... Show more

Five years later, the therapists were asked to complete self reported surveys based on their honesty,
humor styles, playfulness, and creativity. The effect of these traits on treatment is called therapist
effect or therapist effectiveness and is believed to account for about 5% of the variance in patient
outcomes. That sounds like a small effect, but comparing treatment from the most effective and the
least effective therapists on the study s scale can double chances of improvement. The study looked
to find variables that may contribute to a therapist s effectiveness as to better identify therapists that
with have a higher number of positive outcomes. Many demographic variables (i.e. gender, age,
professional degree) were not included in the study because they have already been found to be
unreliable when predicting outcomes of the therapist effect. The study purposely used the four
distinct personality traits to characterize therapist effectiveness. Additionally, unlike other short
term studies researching the same topic, this study was comprised of 1 hour sessions every week
for a year. The study surprisingly

The Navy s first African American Master Diver, Brashear faced difficulties that would have defeated most people. His spirit and determination resulted not only in his overcoming great oddsto become a U.S. Navy diver, but also in his surviving the loss of a leg in an accident on the USS Hoist in 1966 and more amazingly in his attaining the rankof Master Diver. Brashear had rigged a three legged spider with grappling hooks on each leg. It was attached to the submersible Alvin, which would use it to attach parachute rigging to the bomb. The apparatus worked beautifully and the bomb was brought to the surface. At 5:00 p.m., a shift in the position of the ship that had pulled alongside the Hoist to receive the bomb caused a chain of events that almost killed Carl Brashear and seemed certainly to have killed his career in the Navy. During efforts to bring the bomb aboard, a swell caused an unexpected movement in the ship s position. The timing was catastrophic. The atomic weapon slipped from the parachute rigging and sank again, but even worse, a pipe broke loose from one of the ships and became a deadly missile. Brashear saw the pipe break. I got all my sailors out of the way, but I didn t get myself out of the way, he says. The injuries he suffered were overwhelming, and so sudden that at first, he didn t know anything was wrong. Only when he tried to put weight on his leg did he realize the extent of the damage. He jokes about it today. I found that I didn t have a leg to stand on, he chuckles. Most of the flesh on his leg was ripped away, leaving his foot attached only by the tendons in the back of his calf. Bones were exposed and the bleeding was profuse. He also suffered head and internal injuries. The dive boat did ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Salinity Stress on Plants Essay examples Salinity Stress on Plants All plants are subjected to a multitude of stresses throughout their life cycle. Depending on the species of plant and the source of the stress, the plant will respond in different ways. When a certain tolerance level is reached, the plant will eventually die. When the plants in question are crop plants, then a problem arises. The two major environmental factors that currently reduce plant productivity are drought and salinity (Serrano, 1999), and these stresses cause similar reactions in plants due to water stress. These environmental concerns affect plants more than is commonly thought. For example, disease and insect loss typically decrease crop yields by less than ten percent, but severe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The plants that grow in saline soils have diverse ionic compositions and a range in concentrations of dissolved salts (Volkmar et al., 1998). These concentrations fluctuate because of changes in water source, drainage, evapo transpiration, and solute availability (Volkmar et al., 1998). Due to these varying conditions, plant growth depends on a supply of inorganic nutrients, and this level of nutrients varies in time and space (Maathius and Amtmann, 1999). Either extreme condition concerning nutrients results in deficiency or toxicity in plants, and this is demonstrated by salt tolerance (Maathius and Amtmann, 1999). These conditions vary according to the plant species and growth conditions. Little is known about the genetic basis for diversity of salt tolerance in plants, and this could be partly explained through the definitions given for salinity. Plants in natural environments are being exposed to increasing amounts of salinity. One third of the land being irrigated worldwide is affected by salinity, but salinity also occurs in non irrigated land (Allen et al., 1994). There are large areas of primary salinity, but secondary salinity can be detected within one hundred years of settlement on an area of land. Drought and salinity are connected because in many regions, raising plants requires irrigation. The irrigation water contains calcium, magnesium, and sodium (Serrano et al., 1999). As the water evaporates and transpires, calcium and magnesium ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Conception and Birth of Heroes in Greek Mythology Essay Hero, the word strikes a universal chord making us think of exceptional and spectacular stories or deeds that far surpass any common feat. To the Greeks and many other cultures, the birth of these heroes is important. The birth of a hero sets them, apart often even before birth, from common mortals in Greek mythology. Birth is the first of many major events in our lives, our entrance into the world (Leeming). For heroes, that entrance must be as special as their lives will prove to be. A mundane birth is simply not an option for a hero, whether by the machinations of the gods or prophecies from an oracle, even the events surrounding their conception must be spectacular. Thus, claiming the items his father left him and setting out for Athens, he started on the path leading to many great and heroic adventures. Hercules, born of Alcmena and Zeus, was conceived when Zeus took the form of Alcmena s husband and lay with her. Her true husband lay with her again later that night and she conceived twins. One would be born to her human husband, and the other fathered by Zeus himself (Hamilton). Zeus bragged about his soon to be born son alerting and infuriating Hera to Hercules existence. Hera was notorious for tormenting her husbands illegitimate offspring since she couldn t harm Zeus outright for his infidelity (Hamilton). Hera persuaded Eileithyia to slow Alcmena s labor in a fit of piquГ©, almost killing her (Hamilton). Alcmena in fear of Hera s wrath gave her son to nature. Zeus (in some accounts Hermes) stole him away to Olympus, where he suckled at Hera s breast while she lay sleeping, granting him immortality (McLeish). When Hera awoke during the suckling she pushed Hercules away and the milk that sprayed out formed the Milky Way (Leeming). • 7. 12 Angry Men Disagreement The noble art of disagreement has molded society over time and diversified the perspectives of its inhabitants. Disagreement is what separates someone from society, forms his or her identity, and releases him or her from the herd mentality. It is with great courage that someone opposes and challenges the beliefs of society, but when someone does so successfully, change is bound to occur. Therefore, the most beloved leaders in history tended to be the ones that dared to disagree and sacrificed their status to have their voices be heard. Those leaders have challenged many of society s oldest traditions and beliefs: the superiority of a specific race, the discrimination of genders and sexualities, or the prejudice certain religions. However, anytime people decide to agree solely for the feeling safety and comfort, they are not only hurting themselves but potentially others. Surrounding yourself with others that consistently agree with you can be a very dangerous thing. In a situation like that, it is easy to understand the temptation to give in to the overwhelming majority, but maintaining integrity and choosing to disagree forces the jury to reevaluate the evidence and their verdict. It s very easy to compare me with my brother. My brother is the oldest. He strives to achieve his goal and , as of right now, he s doing a pretty well job with striving. Comparing him with me, I am more of a social person. I like to hangout with my friends and be social. I am also more humorous than many people may think. He is more of a serious person. • 11. Our Dependence On The Electronic Tools The way in which we store, process, and retrieve information, in other words, our schemas, has been altered by the use of the web. Our dependence on the electronic tools we interact with on a daily basis may have altered how we communicate what we have learned to others. The traditional manner of structuring argument may have been replaced by a more diffuse manner that parallels the format of web content (Rusciano Xia, 2013). Our knowledge structure has moved from print based to web based (Rusciano Xia, 2013) and our use of the web has moved the way our knowledge is organized and shared (Rusciano Xia, 2013). The traditional form of knowledge is in an indexical linear structure, which ...has formed the basis for the creation of writing, and reached maturity in the linear visual space of the printing press; it remains the core of contemporary knowledge dissemination and acquisition (Rusciano Xia, 2013). The web, however, works in an entirely different manner. ...this structure through the web centers on the concept of an associative system of organizing and presenting information that is nonsequential and open ended (Rusciano Xia, 2013). While the Internet is still a fairly new invention, it is not an entirely new concept. The Environmental Impacts Coming From Developing Mineral The environmental impacts coming from developing mineral and energy resources from open pit mining mainly comes from the extraction of the material once it has been deemed cost effective to extract. What most often occurs when a site is being mined is that the material removed from the dig site gets displaced over to the side in an area such as an open quarry mine. After the materials are extracted the waste material is not placed back and neither is any vegetation that was once there. One way that could help the surrounding environment would be to keep record of the amount of material and/or vegetation removed and replace it with a similar amount once the required material has been extracted. This would give the wildlife that had been... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mining is a relatively temporary activity due to the limited operating lives of the mining sites, which are determined by the size and quality of the ore deposit being mined. Water is used in a variety of applications at mine sites such as the diverting of surface water and the pumping out of groundwater, which is a concern to all living creatures. The waste water runoff in open pit mining, after rain water that flows through the mine, can collect numerous hazardous materials and wash them into nearby streams or rivers. Having a collection well downhill from the mining site can aid in the collection of this waste water runoff, but would only help if the tank never reached an overflow situation. Mining operations can work to reduce the quantity of water used and increase the quality of water available downstream for aquatic ecosystems and other industrial and municipal water users, especially in areas with dry climates. In Canada, mining had one of the highest water recycling rates among the industrial divisions, and between 1996 and 2005 reduced its total water intake around 30%. Balfour Declaration Of Independence In 1917, before the United Nations was even created, the British government published the Balfour Declaration which supported the creation of a Jewish state in Palestine (Immell 16). Inevitably, bad feelings were going to rise between the native Arabs of Palestine and this new Balfour Declaration that favored taking away some of Palestineland and setting it aside for Jewish immigrants. Over the next 20 years, the number of Jews immigrating to Palestine increased due to the Zionist movemnt, and so did Arab Jewish tensions. From 1936 1939, a large group of Arabs revolted. This revolt was led by leaders who were unwilling to give any Palestine land for the establishment of a Jewish nation (Cottrell 32 35). After this revolt and the growing Zionist movement, it would have seemed apparent to the United Nations that the Arabs and Jews in Palestine needed to be separated. So although the United Nations did pass Resolution 181 which essentially created the Jewish nation, Israel, the United Nations merely carried out the legislature that was promised from the Balfour Declaration of the British government. Physically, a wall is a man made structure which can be made of brick, stone, wood, metal, drywall, glass or any type of material. The material used to erect a vertical wall and the size of the walldepends on the purpose of the wall. The size of the wall is determined by the person building the wall. The wall acts as a barrier between the two neighbors and the poet indicates this on line 25 says My apple trees will never get across . The reader gains a sense of how different the neighbors, the value of the wall and alludes to the reason in which the wall is a good neighbor. One neighbor sees the benefit of the wall as keeping their properties separated when he states on line 27 Good fences make good neighbors viewing the wall as a necessity to maintain separation and privacy and a barrier from interacting with the other neighbor. The Rayleigh BГ©nard convection instability occurs in a plane horizontal layer of fluid heated from the bottom. The fluid develops a regular pattern of convection cells known as BГ©nard cells. The convection patterns are the most carefully examined example of self organizing nonlinear systems. Gravity and hence Buoyancy, is the major driving force for the Rayleigh BГ©nard Marangoni convection instability. The initial movement is the upwelling of lesser density fluidfrom the heated bottom layer. This upwelling spontaneously organizes into a regular pattern of cells called BГ©nard cells. The dimensionless Rayleigh number (RaL), which essentially expresses the balance between gravity and viscous forces is given by Where, Tu is the Temperature of the top plate Tb is the Temperature of the bottom plate L is the height of the container. g is the acceleration due to gravity. ОЅ is the kinematic viscosity. О± is the Thermal diffusivity ОІ is the Thermal expansion coefficient The critical Rayleigh number (RC) is the threshold over which the convection cells appear. RC ~ 1100.65 for a Marangoni set up with controlled boundary conditions. Rayleigh BГ©nard convection experiments used fluids heated from below with a confining plate on the top surface. • 20. Project Delivery Methods For Distinct Allocation Of Risk... Project delivery methods allow for distinct allocation of risk and responsibilities within a construction contract. Each unique construction project calls for a defined delivery method and a written contract in order to ensure the success of the venture. A project delivery option is defined as a method for procurement which the owner s assignment of delivery risk and performance for design and construction has been transferred to another party (Mahdi 564). After a legal and appropriate contract is signed, contractual privity exists which allows the contracting parties to hold each other responsible for their actions. The design bid build delivery method is often referred to the traditional method of contractual relationships in the construction industry. This method allows the owner to select a design professional based off of the quality of their work, whereas the selection of the construction manager is based off competitive bids submitted after the completion of the design. The traditional method may be viewed as the tried and true system of creating successful contractual relationships, but the evolution of the industry has called for this method to take on different forms. One such form is the construction manager at risk (CMR) method, which allows for collaboration between the owner, designer, and construction manager during the early stages of the design process and continues throughout the life of the construction project. This agreement makes up thirty percent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is only now that, after reading the pieces by Seidman, Stoltenberg, and Fausto Sterling, I can see my previous assumptions were based on my experiences living in a society that reinforces binaries and conditions individuals to feel obligated to choose between two opposite and mutually exclusive categories that don t actually exist. Seidman s decoupling of sex and reproduction, Stoltenberg s acknowledgement of sexuality as a continuum, and Fausto Sterling s exploration of the experiences of intersex individuals shed light on the intricacies of sex and sexuality that norms usually try to subvert. To limit sex to man and woman is to oversimplify the vast combinations that genuine, consenting individuals are making. By accepting a spectrum sexuality opens one up to un gender their sexuality so as to not be suppressed by the limitations imposed by a sexual identity. Anne Fausto Sterling further separates sex from sexual identity by discussing the experiences of intersex individuals. Despite what society expects of those who don t neatly fit into the binary, intersex individuals generally manage to live happy lives. • 22. Sherlock The Abominable Bride Analysis The third trailer for Sherlock: The Abominable Bride is a mere forty three seconds with only the first thirty five seconds actually showing clips from the episode, yet the trailer is fraught with layers of rhetoric. The trailer can be found on the YouTube channel Sherlock and was published December 12th, 2015. Sherlock: The Abominable Bride was an episode released in between seasons three and four and directed by Douglas Mackinnon. The trailer itself is much too short to inform the viewer of what transpires in the episode, rather, it is a compilation of scenes that pose a question and give a promise. The first thing one notices when watching the trailer is the use of space and dimensions. There are primarily two types of spaces used in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sherlock does this in two ways. The first by posing a question and the second offering a promise. As previously stated, the trailer crafts a question by creating a contradiction that the question is based on. The question is the strongest persuasive technique used by the trailer. The second technique is a promise. Within less than a minute, the trailer makes two promises. The first one is a promise of humor. There are ten pieces of dialogue within the trailer. Four of those are used to make just one joke. Sherlock says, to the morgue! There s not a moment to lose. Which one can so rarely say of a morgue. The joke is placed almost directly in the middle of the trailer. For most of the trailer the atmosphere is dark and intense, yet for six seconds in the middle of the trailer, the atmosphere shifts suddenly. The joke seems to be a complete outlier. It does not follow the intensity of the rest of the trailer. The only practical reason that the joke is there must be to give promise. The trailer promises that although the episode will be intense, there will also be lighter, funnier moments. The second promise is a little less obvious. It goes hand and hand with the question. The promise is that the question will be answered. To do this the trailer poses little questions, such as who is hiding? by using confined spaces. The trailer then answers the question by showing and saying the avenging ghost and the bride. So when the trailer leaves viewers with an unanswered question, they believe that the episode will answer it because they have been trained by the trailer to believe so. The trailer also says that Sherlock will give the answers, which is ever so softly implied by the way Sherlock says things. To illustrate, he says I know it can t and to the morgue, there s not a moment to lose. Sherlock makes these statements with a voice of knowledge and control. He gives viewers a ... Many news reports in televisions and newspapers have used the term money laundering but still, the general public do not have enough knowledge of what money laundering is and the corresponding effects upon society. In line with this, there is also a need to further study the processes that are involved in money laundering in order to properly address the aforementioned illegal action. In the modern definition, money laundering occurs every time any transaction takes place or relationship is formed which involves any form of property or benefit, whether it is tangible or intangible, which is derived from criminal activity (Hopton, p.2). In relation to this, it is also important to point out that criminal proceeds do not have to be moved in order to launder them (Hopton, 2009). The modern definition of money laundering highlights important points that describe money laundering. Contrary to the common belief that laundering only involves illegal money, there are also cases wherein the money is legal but the failure of an individual to properly declare it as income on a tax return is also recognized as laundering. Furthermore, the traditional view of money laundering involves the purpose that criminals result to laundering in order to identification, punishment, and confiscation of their ill gotten wealth. The traditional perspective is not incorrect but it is also essential to highlight that the primary aim of criminals is not the conversion of property but rather the need to hide the fact that they actually own the property. The purpose of the criminals is to remove the link between them and the property so that it cannot be related to the criminal offence that they wish to avoid. There s plenty of room at the bottom ; this statement by Richard Feynman in 1959 during a presentation to a meeting of the American Physical Society, is widely accepted as the spark that initiated the present nano age1. Nano, dwarf in Greek, is defined as one billionth, it follows that the nanoscale is measured in nanometres, or 10 9 m. To put this in perspective; the average strand of a human hair is roughly 75,000 nm in diameter, or from the other extreme 1 nm is the length of 10 hydrogen atoms lined up end to end. Nanotechnology can be difficult to define, as its definition is often engineered to suit the researcher and their field; this resulted in a need of a general working definition, which the national nanotechnology initiative (NNI) established []. Nanotechnology is thus defined as possessing the following features; Nanotechnology involves research and technology development at the 1 nm to 100 nm range. Nanotechnology builds on the capability to organize or manipulate at the atomic scale. Nanotechnology creates and uses structures that have novel properties because of their small size. . 2. Nanotechnology Nanoscience involves a study of nanotechnology and nanomaterials, of which at least one of the dimensions is in 1 100 nm range. Entertainment not only consists of movies, music, and television but also literature. The beat generation spoke against how materialistic people were, and they just simply spoke up that is why they were seen as rebels. In the world of literature and art, the Beats stood in opposition to the clean, almost antiseptic formalism of the early twentieth century Modernist, (The Beat Generation) that is what the Beat generation stood up for. Where literature had a turning point was in 1956 when Howel was published by Allen Ginsberg. Censorship as a force for modulating public discourse, in the realm of literature at least, came to an end (The Beat Generation). With their work we can express ourselves anyway desired, without anyone coming after us. Although the government had a valid reason to be worried which was the threat of communism, they believed their work had the ideology of communism. The beat generation was very open minded, intelligent, and had knowledge that still impact us today such as environmentalism. The entertainment industry had to go through all of these changes so that they were able to reach true success. Also Veterans coming back from the war with new priorities(Overview for Films made in Post WarEra) was a major cause to the entertainment industry, they had to come up with ways to expand their content and come up with new things. • 41. Understanding the Modern State of Christianity as... To understand the modern state of Christianity as evangelicals, it is necessary to realize that there have been important changes to the point in which we are today (Fahrsh, 2006). Several doubts among believers existed and this resulted in the existence of many movements. Some of these movements include liberalism, neo orthodoxy and evangelical movement. Theological movements To begin with liberalism movement, it was more common in the 19th and 20th centuries. As the term liberal implies the willingness that was there to explain and interpret the scripture according to the current day philosophic perspectives (Wilbur, 2006). This involved the use of scientific assumptions as they tried to achieve a better understanding and he points they see as appropriate and important. This was done without the need to know whether the agreed terms was in considerations of the previously known concepts and the correct doctrine. Much significance was put across as interpreted scientifically in the text and on morality (Wilbur, 2006). Second is the neo orthodox movement, it was more prominent and influential in the 20th century. It is a theological movement that was common in Europe and America and was mainly known as crisis or dialectical theology. It was led by a number of most influential theologians of that time, including Emil Brunner, Reinhold Niebuhr, Nikolay Berdyayev and Paul Tillich (Ahlstrom, 2009). They were mainly called neo orthodox since they spoke the traditional or the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. We Exist to Be for One Another WE EXIST TO BE FOR ONE ANOTHER There are a few words you hear or read that never go away. We exist to be supernatural occurrence laborers for each other, originates from Sr Joan Chittister, who happens to make the point that truly, it is in group, when we live congruously with others, that we are called to develop. Story has taught this from multiple points of view, and as of late I re read an old story, yet this time with fresher eyes and ears, as I held these words in my brain and heart. In The Bremen Town Musicians , a jackass, puppy, feline, and chicken, all past their prime, their helpfulness to their holders now at an end, are abused, soon to be disposed of by their managers. One by one they leave home and signing up with one another, they set out for Bremen, a town in Germany. The characters never really touch base in Bremen, however its huge that it is named in the title, as it was a town known for its flexibility. There, they want to procure a living as musical performers, envisioning they have an ability for this. On the way, they come to bungalow and catch four thieves devouring and partitioning their sick gotten picks up. Remaining on one another s backs to show signs of improvement look, the hungry creatures choose to perform for the men in any desire for being given a supper. Their music a clamor of whinnying, crowing, mewing and yapping cause the terrified men to run for their lives. The creatures revel in the relinquished dinner ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Renewable Energy Policies Operating At The Level Of The... The world today, as we know it, acknowledges the impact of the carbon emission on the surrounding environment with devastating effects such as global warming, rise of the ocean levels and destruction of animal and vegetal life. Therefore, it started shifting towards more green sources of energy such as renewable energy, ones that are more sustainable and more friendly to the environment. European Union, one of the most advanced democratic models of our time, is one of the key players at the global level which understands the need for this change in perspective and constantly advocates for more elaborate policies and joined plans of action. The aim of this essay is to analyse the three main renewable energypolicies operating at the level... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The feed in tariffs could be explained simply by taking the cost of a particular system, dividing that figure by the number of kilowatt/hours that the system can reasonably be expected to generate over its service life (generally 20 years), and the result is the cost of that system per kilowatt hour. Now, tack on whatever return on investment (ROI) is desired, and a feed in tariff had been obtained. This approach allows a distinction to be made not only between different renewables technologies (solar, wind, etc), but also between different system sizes. As an example a big wind farm will undoubtedly produce more energy than the power collected from a certain amount of solar rooftops. With offering different feed in tariffs for various system sizes, one can ensure the economic viability of the various applications, thereby preventing windfall profits for large projects. 1.2. Secondly, in the coming decades, the trend of liberalising energy markets will have to be combined with ambitious environmental goals within the European Union (EU). Currently prevailing incentive schemes (such as trade in tariffs) for renewable energy might not be in line with liberalisation of international energy markets. A good example might be the disadvantage that an operator which is situated near a greater renewable energy potential area, having to accept all the renewable ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Combination Therapy In Contemporary Psychotherapy Last week, I went to grand rounds and watched a presentation by Dr. Susan J. Waller and Dr. William T. Nay. Their presentation was titled The Role of Psychotherapy in Contemporary Psychiatry, which aimed to find greater understanding of the dynamics that have changed psychotherapy s role in modern psychiatry and medical education. Their present goal was to assure VCU students and faculty that there are no problems or bias in VCU/MCV psychotherapytraining. Currently, students are required to study psychotherapy, so Waller and Nay looked to find if it was a necessary requirement. The lecture started off with a brief history of psychiatry. At it s birth in the 1800s, psychiatry became a medical specialty to treat severely ill and severely... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Five years later, the therapists were asked to complete self reported surveys based on their honesty, humor styles, playfulness, and creativity. The effect of these traits on treatment is called therapist effect or therapist effectiveness and is believed to account for about 5% of the variance in patient outcomes. That sounds like a small effect, but comparing treatment from the most effective and the least effective therapists on the study s scale can double chances of improvement. The study looked to find variables that may contribute to a therapist s effectiveness as to better identify therapists that with have a higher number of positive outcomes. Many demographic variables (i.e. gender, age, professional degree) were not included in the study because they have already been found to be unreliable when predicting outcomes of the therapist effect. The study purposely used the four distinct personality traits to characterize therapist effectiveness. Additionally, unlike other short term studies researching the same topic, this study was comprised of 1 hour sessions every week for a year. The study surprisingly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
