Analysis Of The Street By Ann Petry
Being new to an unfamiliar place is always a challenge and bring discomfort, being alone and
knowing no one. In The Street , Ann Petry uses personification, selection of detail, and imagery in
order to reveal Lutie s relationship to the urban setting and to show the challenges Lutie Johnson
faces in the urban environment. At the beginning of the passage, Petry uses imagery in order to set
the environment in which the main character is introduced. Petry starts off with a cold November
windblowing through the 116th street in order to show the environment as cold and breezy by
saying the cold wind that is blowing around they urban cityand the dirt blowing around into people
s eyes to introduce the setting. She then goes to further introduce the setting by talking about the
scraps of paper flying around and how it did everything it could in order to discourage the people
walking along the streets. This allows the reader to picture the urban setting by appealing to their
sense of touch where you can feel the cold climate in the city and create a picture in their mind of
garbage and paper flying around and hindering the people s lives. Petry uses this in order to
highlight Lutie Johnson s eventual introduction to the urban setting and her unfamiliarity with the
urban by letting us predict the challenges Lutie Johnson will soon face there. Petry is able to
create images in our head in order to show Lutie Johnson in the urban setting; you are able to feel

Quality Of Measures
This paper will highlight the information epidemiologists utilize to evaluate the quality of
measures used in research as well as provide reasons why the quality of measures are essential and
finally explain how epidemiologists ensure the measures used in research are of good quality.
a.What type of information do epidemiologists use to judge/evaluate the quality of their measures?
Tests for validity and reliability are the criteria mostly used by epidemiologists to judge the quality
of measures used in research. Reliability of the measure shows that when different observers use the
measure at different occasions, they will obtain similar test results (1). For example, a measure that
determines weight gain among male adults in Saskatoon ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The standards of acceptable reliability which epidemiologists seeks to attain include internal
consistency exceeding 0.8 and stability measures greater than 0.5 (3), nevertheless, even if the
internal consistency of a measure is low, it is better the measure has high stability and content
validity.
Validity tests involve ensuring that the instrument is measuring what the epidemiologist intended
(4), validity has several components including content and construct validity. Validity of the
measure at minimum can be assessed subjectively by expert opinion of one or more experts in the
field of study, where experts review the measure to determine if the instrument appears to be
assessing the desired qualities (Face Validity) or determining whether the instrument samples all the
relevant content (Content Validity) (3).
Additionally, constructs are mini theories used to assist in developing a new or better instrument
in order to explain a broader range of findings or make more accurate predictions about a person s
behavior. Hence, when no other measures exist, the epidemiologist can link an attribute measured
to another attribute by a hypothesis or construct and test the instrument by applying it to a sample
to determine if the expected relationship is obtained; this is regarded as construct validity. For
example; if a test for blood sugar was devised because there is no other test

An Analysis Of Euripides Medea
The Character of Medea in Euripides
Euripides presents one of the most shocking female characters in literature, through Medea, a
devotee of the goddess Hecate, and one of the great sorceresses of the ancient world. She was the
daughter of King Aeetes of Colchis, and the granddaughter of Helios, the sun god. King Aeetes
most valuable possession was a golden ram s fleece. When Jason, the man Medea falls in love with,
arrives at Colchis seeking the Golden Fleece, Aeetes sets Jason a series of seemingly impossible
tasks as the price for obtaining it. Medea falls in love with Jason and agrees to use her magic to
help him, in return for Jason s promise to marry her. Jason fled once he obtained the Golden
Fleece, taking Medea and her younger brother, Absyrtis, with him, as King Aeetes pursued them.
In order to delay the pursuit, Medea killed her brother and cut his body into pieces, scattering the
parts behind the ship. This caused the pursuers to stop and collect Absyrtis dismembered body in
order to give it proper burial, which thus gave Jason, Medea and the Argonauts the time to escape.
On Jason s safe return to his home in Iolcus, Medea continued to use her sorcery. She restored the
youth of Jason s aged father, Aeson, by cutting his throat and filling his body with a magical potion.
She tricked Pelias daughters into killing him, but left the corpse without any youth restoring potion.
After the murder of Pelias, Jason and

Reflection Paper On The Movie Precious
After speaking with my classmate, the film I choose to watch was Precious because she gave it
a glowing review and highly recommend it. Furthermore, the movie was a perfect fit for me as I
have personally not had many interactions with poor inner city people of color, and the limited
interactions I have had were not in the environment where they live their daily lives. Additionally, I
asked my girlfriend if she had a movie recommendation out of the list of films that were available
after removing the movies I had already seen. Ultimately, Precious stood out to her as an excellent
movie that painted an insightful illustration of life in the poor inner city community. Although she
saw the movie several years ago, she recalled that the filmevoked many strong emotional responses
which made a lasting impact and enduring perspective. Once she gave that feedback, the decision
of which movie to watch was not difficult. As I watched the film, I, like my girlfriend, experienced
a wide range of emotions which included; anger, fear, empathy, frustration, and pride. For example,
I was frustrated when Preciouses mother berated her after Preciouses teacher visited the pairs home
and informed both of the opportunity that Precious had to attend an alternative school by calling
her stupid, asking if she thought she was better than her, and physically abusing her. Also, I was
frustrated when the mother forced Precious to overeat when Precious did not prepare the mother s
dinner

Glasgow Coma Scale And The Renin-Angiotensin System
Question 1:
An unaltered consciousness occurs when the Renin Angiotensin (RAS) system is working at 100%
(Blyth Bazarian, 2010). When changes such as head traumas, aging, concussions, strokes, etc.
occur the RAS system would be damaged overtime (Barritt Smithard, 2011). The more often these
occur, the more it is damaged. If RAS does not seem to be working adequately it would mean that
it is not be properly communicating with the cerebral cortex, this then causing the patient to
become less alert (Craig, 2003). His consciousness can only be tested by external stimuli to test for
the functioning of the RAS (through Auditory/Visual stimuli which in turn activate RAS). This is
why the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) is used as a measure a conscious state (Braine Cook, 2017).
It tests and scores the visual, verbal and motor response. The lower the GCS score the more of
an altered conscious state the patient is said to have. Typically the lower scores also have a
worsened prognosis and/or poorer outcome on the Glasgow Outcome Scale in an adult (Weir, et
al., 2012). Mr Shepard had altered level of consciousness at a GCS of 12. When a patient has no
altered level of consciousness they are given a score of 15 (Mena, et al., 2011). Anything less than
that actions need to be implemented to prevent further deterioration and try to bring the GCS back
to 15 so there is no altered conscious state. Your conscious state is affected by two main things;

This shows that investors were willing to pay more because of their increased confidence in the
company s future profits. Thus, share price increases from 0.17 to 24.22 times as more
shareholders invested in it but in 2014 2013, it decreases to 18.56 as the shareholders are making a
loss in the NAV ratio, thus pulling out their investment.
NAV Ratio (Net Asset Value Per Share)
2012: 0.38
2013: 0.70
2014: 0.90
The NAV ratio is drastically decreasing over the years, showing that the company is slowly
becoming more undervalued in 2013 to 2014. This shows that the shareholders are not earning their
investment.
CONCLUSION
Due to Far East Orchid s declining profitability, the company turns to increasing its gearing ratio to
fund its financial and operational needs. This excessive increase in current assets results in the
company being too liquid, and its extreme increase of selling inventory caused its quick ratio to
drop below the recommended level. The inconsistent inventory turnover shows inefficiency in
managing their assets. And finally, this causes the company to be undervalued.
As seen from the above ratios, our recommendation would be not to invest in this company, as it is
not only making a loss of profits, but also going into debt to solve its low profit

Drivers in Aircraft Industry
вћўWhat do you consider as the most important drivers for the development and technology in the
aircraft manufacturing industry? Introduction The current aircraft manufacturing industry is lead
by three or four main manufacturing companies. The European company Airbus based in France,
the US American Company Boeing based on the West Coast of the US and not to forget Embraer
with its Headquarters in South America and Bombadier, homebased in Quebec, Canada. Reading
that there are only three companies in the marked, it could seem that there is hard but less

Another significant factor that is connected to the fuel consumption is the emission control. 2%
of the global greenhouse emissions come from the CO2 emissions of aircrafts It does not seem
a lot, still regulators like the EU and government put a lot of pressure on airlines to reduce
aircraft emissions by charging by selling certificates. New technical developments are very much
needed and also put pressure on the manufacturing companies. The ETS (Emission Trading
Scheme) will be implemented in the year 2012 which will force some operators in making some
significant changes in their fleet. Emerging Markets The hubs of the world s economy have
shifted recently and it will continue to change. According to the economist, while 2009 the
world s largest economy (based on the nominal GDP in USD) is still the US, by 2029 the lead
will be taken over by China. Another country that should be kept clearly in mind is India. The
countries economy is definitely on an upswing with a high demand in the aviation sector. New
airlines are founded like king fisher airlines as well as an expansion of already excising local
carriers. Forecasts show that the passenger traffic in emerging economies will increase almost as 3
times faster as in the States or Western Europe. Those emerging countries were also suffering form
the financial crises in 2008 but their recovery was much faster than in the rest of the world. Due to
the population in especially China and India,

The Boy In The Striped Pajamas Essay
The Boy in Striped Pajamas is a heartrending film based on Bruno s struggles with friends, family,
and a new home. Bruno, a young boy who is the son of a Nazi soldier, faces multiple troublesome
situations. Even through Bruno s struggles, the film supports a major theme of friendship. In this
movie, Bruno and Shmuel strike an unlikely friendshipthat would ultimately be life changing. The
movie makes it clear that friendship can break all boundaries. The Boyin Striped Pajamas
effectively uses the elements of sound, costuming, lighting, and dialogue to support the theme of
friendship. The element of sound is used throughout the entirety of the filmto support the essence of
friendship. In the opening scenes of the movie, Bruno is seen playfully... Show more content on

Lighting is used multiple times throughout the film to support the theme of friendship. The first
example of lighting is present in the opening scenes of the movie. As Bruno and his friends are
playfully running through the streets of Berlin, the sun is shining and the picture is bright. In
contrast, Bruno s home when he finds out that his family is moving is dark and gloomy. Once
again, the director uses the lighting to display Bruno s emotions. When Bruno is with his friends,
the shining light indicates his happiness. However, when Bruno discovers that he is leaving his
friends, the dark lighting displays Bruno s dismal feeling. Similarly, the same concepts are used in
the later stages of the film. As Bruno wanders into the backyard, he finds the shed with a window, a
possible route to the farm . As Bruno looks up at the window, the light shining through the open
window is vibrant. This bright light represents Bruno s escape from this place without friends to the
farm where friendship surely awaits him. Finally, the director uses lighting in scenes with both
Bruno and Shmuel to show their friendship. In scenes where Bruno and Shmuel are together, the
lighting is bright, once again representing the friendship between the two, along with Bruno s
happiness in this friendship. However, in the closing scenes of the movie, the lighting while Bruno
and Shmuel are together becomes

Kevin Rudd Apology To Australia s Indigenous People
Prime Minister Kevin Rudd s apology to Australia s Indigenous people is in its own essence
addressed in a spoken form but has been transcribed into a written text. The speech was delivered at
the Parliament of Australia, House of Representatives by Kevin Rudd with the intentions to make
an apology to Indigenous Australiansin particular of the dreadful past of the Stolen Generations .
It was delivered to both a live audience as well as broadcast via the channel of television and radio
to a wider Australian audience, especially to the Aboriginal audience. He adopts an appropriate and
respectful tenor which in turns fosters a formal register to accommodate the solemnity of the topic.
Accordingly, it softens Rudd s relative social status to further give him creditability of his humble
tone. Whilst the topic relates to the catastrophe of the Stolen Generations the field of the transcript

He uses syntax favouring the antithesis of past and future with history and new page in the
history respectively to generate a cohesive tie along the speech. Similarly, he refers to history as
a book and in turn names each fragments of the history as pages which moreover support his
chosen underlying syntax. Accordingly, it also allows him to create coherent adhesive bond.
Furthermore, Rudd implements repetition and strings of parallelisms with statements in line 16

past generations who caused the conflict. Along with it, he structures in the way of right

Dementi The Most Common Form Of Progressive Dementia
Dementia is a chronic disorder associated with a decline in cognitive functioning typically
characterized by memory impairment, increased communication and language difficulty and
decreased motor activity that interferes with activities of daily living. Patients with dementia may
also experience agitation, hallucinations, paranoia and difficultly with complex tasks. People
with a family history of dementia and older adults are more prone to dementia. Dementia can be
reversible or progressive depending on the cause. Dementia resulting from infections, reactions to
medications, anoxia and poisoning can be reversed with medical treatment. Alzheimer s disease is
the most common form of progressive dementia currently affecting 5.3 million Americans. Of the
5.3 million, 5.1 million people are the elderly population with two thirds of those affected being
women. There is no treatment available to cure dementia but measures can be taken to sustain the
quality of life. Dementia not only affects the patients directly, but also family members and
caregivers as well. Family members deal with patient s memory loss, changes in personality and
also have to take care of the ill patients financially. According to WHO, the cost of dementia in
2010 worldwide was estimated to be $604 billion dollars. Apart from the economic pressure, family
members also deal with the physical and emotional pressures that come with dementia. According to

What Was The Monroe Doctrine
The Monroe Doctrine was a United States policy of opposing European colonialism in the Americas
beginning in 1823. It stated that further efforts by European nations to take control of any
independent state in North or South America would be viewed as the manifestation of an
unfriendly disposition toward the United States. The Doctrine was issued on December 2, 1823 at
a time when nearly all Latin American colonies of Spain and Portugal had achieved or were at the
point of gaining independence from the Portuguese and Spanish Empires. By the end of the 19th
century, Monroe s declaration was seen as a defining moment in the foreign policy of the United
States and one of its longest standing tenets. It would be invoked by many U.S. statesmen and
several U.S. presidents, including Ulysses S. Grant, Theodore Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy, and
Ronald Reagan. Roosevelt gave much thought while in office to the consideration of the Monroe
Doctrine of 1823. He added the Roosevelt Corollary to the Monroe Doctrine in 1904, asserting that

Impact Of The Space Race
RQ: How and to what extent did the Space Race have a impact on United States s defense
technologies?
On October 4th, 1957 the Soviet Union launched the first ever satellite, Sputnik. The launch of
Sputnik sent the United States into a frenzy, beginning the Space Race, and the innovation of
technology as a whole. The Space Race most importantly had a major impact on the evolution of the
United States s defense technologies through the launch of Sputnik. The Space Race sparked the
United States battle for technological superiority against the USSR, and lead to improvizations in
their satellite and satellite defense technologies.
From a United States and Soviet Union perspective that conveys that the Space Race had a minor
impact on the improvisation of United States defense technologies; the Space Race was in a way
responsible for the United State s production of new technology of missiles and defense against
intercontinental ballistic missiles. In the late 1950s the United States Air Force started a series of
advanced strategic missile projects under the Weapon System WS 199A called Martin s Bold
Orion air launched ballistic missile (ALBM). Similar to ICBMs the purpose of the ALBM was to
destroy satellites sent into orbit that posed a intellectual and physical threat to the US. The ALBM
was created due to the increasing pressure that the Soviets were to launch a satellite before the

School Uniforms Policy Analysis
Local school districts, the state, individual schools, and the state have mutual interest embedded
into the decision of adopting a uniform policy. As a result, school uniforms can be mandatory in
some schools while in others remain voluntary. The wearing of a school uniform implies that all
students in the school are required to wear clothing that matches in color, length, and design. There
have been arguments put across against the wearing of uniformsin schools. The primary argument
against implementation of school uniforms policy is that it is an infringement of the first
amendment Rights of the USA constitution (DeMitchell Fossey, 2015).
The breach comes about when students are not able to express their personality through the dressing.

Peer pressure is human nature that has limited control. Both the advertising and the fashion
industries, along with the other instruments of the media in our way of life, impacts to the peer
pressure we go through (Roman Taylor, 2013). The students do feel not only the pressure to
conform but also the parents and the teachers in general. Students are under the pressure to wear the
so called fresh outfits so that they can ultimately fit in with their peers. Making a fashion statement
is the medium to be accepted and liked amongst an individual s peers (Sanchez et al., 2012). As a
result, students impact the pressure to their parents in their efforts to have cool clothes that will
enable them to fit in with their peers. Parents thus find themselves in a situation of purchasing
attires that meet the peer s requirement despite the fact that they are also subject to go out of style.
School uniforms will thus give students and parents another useful weapon in their war against
social pressures and thus enable students to lay less prominence on trendy clothes and more
emphasis on affecting their education. For some students, more so girls, uniforms will give them
more time to sleep or do something constructive in the morning rather than deciding what trendy
outfit to wear (Sanchez et al., 2012). It is conclusive that uniforms promote a relevant law that
people should be judged by their character and not their

Elizabeth Bowen s The Demon Lover
World War II raged around the world, but the people of London faced it on their doorsteps. The
Blitzkrieg destroyed not only the cities buildings but affected the people who lived there. Elizabeth
Bowen, a native of the city, used the devastation to draw, inspiration from her own traumatic
experiences ( The Home Front ). This inspiration manifested itself into the 1945 short story The

Hillary Scott Analysis
Have you ever felt so lost and thought there was no hope? Hillary Scott shows us there is hope
through God, if we trust His plan for us. Ms. Scott was a seven time Grammy award winner from
the country band Lady Antebellum. (Scott, Biography) Scott has a husband named
Chris Tyrrell. Together they have a daughter named Eisele. (Scott, Story)
At a time, Hillary thought life was going her way by getting the chance to add another member to
her family. That tragedy struck in her life. She decided to step back from the Lady
Antebellum band and compose a song called Thy Will . She said, I was still going to my doctor s
appointments in the midst of writing this song. As I was in the waiting period between ultrasounds

looked a lot differently than the way I thought it would. (Scott,

heart is a part of Your plan. (Scott, Thy Will) She is probably wondering how this could possibly
be God s plan for her. Many people ask that similar question. They feel like they did something
wrong, but do not know what. I imagine she was going through this pleading with
God asking why? She said, And I know we are not going to understand, or like what happens in
our life, and that it s okay to not be okay. That period of discomfort is where a lot of the really
incredible heart change happens. (Scott, Talks) God will not give you more than you can handle. If

said that trials result in a stronger relationship with God.

Horse Environmental Changes
The environmental changes that took place throughout history caused species of animals to adapt
to the changing conditions. One such animal where this is especially apparent is the evolution of
the horse. In order to survive, horses evolved traits such as longer limbs, rigid teeth and others that
allowed them the best chance of survival. Overall, it is apparent that the morphology of the horse
changed due to environmental conditions, especially when studying the fossilized teeth, jaws, and
limbs. One of the earliest horse speciesis known as Hyracotherium. It is believed that this species
did not live on open grasslands like modern horses but instead, lived in thick, closed canopy
forests. As we saw in lab, the teeth of Hyracotherium are rather pointed which indicates that the
species was a browser of leaves and fruits in forests. Its small skull and rostrum also leads one to
believe that it had a diet of these easily chewable foods found in closed canopy forests. In
contrast, the modern horse has very flat rigid teeth which indicates the species is a grazer of grass.
In class, one of the trends we observed was that phalange number decreased over time (Lab Data).
An organism with more phalanges typically exhibits better dexterity, balance,... Show more content

This makes sense because if few muscles attach to the limbs, the total weight of the limb is
reduced, allowing for increased speed. This kind of limb is very effective when it comes to
transferring muscular energy into forward motion, allowing for incredible endurance (Lab Notes).
It would enable horses to run away from predators. We also observed the formation of the hoof.
Over time, the outer metatarsal decreased in length compared to the central metatarsal. Another
trend we saw was that the central metatarsal increased in length over the course of history (Lab
Data). This would further allow for increased speed, but less

Team Process Of A Team
Team Process: When becoming a part of a team, at the beginning of this semester, I never
imagined how much teamwork and communication was needed to get even an entry level
project done in a team. One of the best traits of my team was our excellent use of coordination.
Coordination helped us stay organized, as well as made each team member more effective. We
never missed a team meeting, and always completed our assigned work on time. The Gantt chart
we created towards the beginning of our project, helped each member stay organized, so no one
member took on a larger share of work than assigned to. As well as staying organized, we worked
well as a team, and I believe we all respected each others abilities to complete our own tasks. The
reason we were able to function so well, was because only the facilitator had the desire to lead.
There were no power struggle and confrontations. There were never conflicting ideas in the team,
we all accepted what we had to do and let one person take charge. However, that doesn t mean,
we didn t put in a lot work. We worked hard to complete our project; it only shows that we were
able to work well, when given the task of turning design ideas into reality. As an engineer, you
will not have total freedom of concept, design and build. You might have one task, or many, but
there could be many people working on a project and you will have to build according to someone
else s specifications and design. To engage all team members, we made sure

The Lifetime Of A Nuclear Power Plant Essay
The lifetime of a nuclear power plant is planned to be 40 years. Recently there are trails to raise this
life in new constructions as well as the old ones to 60 years (1 4). During this prolonged lifetime
components are exposed to degradation that may affect safe operation of the plant. Such influences
affect pressure retaining items of the plant including reactor pressure vessel, reactor piping, bolting
and threaded fasteners, steam generator materials and several other items (5). The Reactor Pressure
Vessel (RPV) is the most critical component in the LWR pressure boundary. It is the only
component in this boundary whose failure is considered to be of such low probability that it is
considered essentially incredible. NRC regulations require that RPV steels maintain conservative
margin for fracture toughness so that flaws do not threaten the integrity of a RPV during either
normal operation and maintenance cycles or under accident transients such as Pressurized Thermal
Shock (PTS) (6). The major technical issues regarding aging of RPV include: high fluences, for
long times that may lead to high emrittlement creating large uncertainties for emrittlement
predictions (7). Increasing nickel content in the RPV steel, all other factors being equal, causes
increasing emrittlement (7). The degradation mechanisms that may affect RPV include Irradiation
embrittlement, Thermal ageing, Temper embrittlement, Fatigue and Corrosion (8). Concerning
nuclear piping the main degradation

Consumerism Has Changed Our Society
Consumerism over centuries has shaped our society into the world we live in today. Throughout
our history, the American dream has been to become the most successful person you can possibly
become given the opportunities presented to you. Consumerism has provided our country with a
lot of jobs and efficient sources of income for the general population. Consumerism gives our
country an upside unlike many other countries in that you could grow up in a hardworking blue
collar family and become the most successful person in America. Even though consumerism has a
lot of positive effects, it also could be the reason for a lot of society s issues that people have to live
through day in and day out.
A positive effect that consumerism has had on our society is that consumerism has made our
society more hard working and driven. Consumerism has also shaped our society to be more
free spirited because our society has been able to produce a lot of products, giving us choices like
the type of clothes we can wear or the type of house we can buy. Another positive effect that
consumerism has had on our society is that it has made us more competitive. On most suburban
streets, you can see numerous fast food chains right next to each other; this competition makes us
become more creative and more efficient thinkers. When a person has to make a critical decision
like finding something to eat for dinner, they have many options and maybe their decision can come
down to being best tasting food.

at the Asch Building What happened the day of the Triangle Fire? What progressed after it? On
Saturday, March 25, 1911. At 4:25, which was 5 minutes before closing time at the Triangle Shirt
Factory. The Triangle factory, owned by Max Blanck and Isaac Harris, was located on the top
three floors of the Asch Building, floors 8, 9, and 10. Some cutters were smoking, even though it

This incident has had great significance to this day because it highlights the inhumane working
conditions. The Triangle Fire tragically illustrated that fire inspections and precautions were
woefully inadequate at the time. Outraged cries calling for action to improve the unsafe
conditions in workshops could be heard from every quarter, from the mainstream conservative to
the progressive and union press. The role that strong unions could have in helping prevent such
tragedies became clear. Workers organized in powerful unions would be more conscious of their
rights and better able to obtain safe working conditions. Immediately after the fire, Triangle owners
Blanck and Harris declared in interviews that their building was fireproof, and that it had just been
approved by the Department of Buildings, but the building lacked the third required staircase. On
December 27, twenty three days after the trial had started, a jury acquitted Blanck and Harris of any
wrongdoing. Brought to court, he was fined twenty dollars, and the judge apologized to him for the
imposition. Twenty three individual civil suits were brought against the owners of the Asch

Reflection On Competency
I am very confident with the course competencies. Over the past few months while working in
the classroom that I have been working in for the past three years I really focused on the
competencies and evaluating myself and how I could better these skills. At the beginning of the
semester I rated myself at a 90 percent for my confidence in the competencies, now I would rate
myself at a 100 percent. Not only did I evaluate myself, I was constantly asking the lead teacher
in my classroom how I was doing with the competencies. This really helped me zero in on the
skills and think about ways that I could use the different skills, change how I did some things, and
continue to do the skills that I was already strong at. When I started off the semester I found that
my weakness was doing full observations. I would find myself making short quick notes and then I
would have a hard time getting a full observation. I decided that I was going to focus on getting
better at observations I did. When making observations about children s behavior or their skills I
would write the short notes that had the information that I needed, then I would write the
observation out that same day in a longer format. I did it the same day so that I could remembers
everything that was going on or exactly what happened. This was very helpful for me to create a
full observation. Another competency that I worked on over the semester more than others was
using a wide range of positive guidance approaches to

Executive Systems Responsible for Visually Guided Movement
Land (2009) suggests that three executive systems are responsible for visually guided movements,
namely gaze, vision and action, and these are overseen by a fourth system labelled the schema
system. Figure 2.12 is an illustration a particular model that has been developed to explain visually
guided movement in natural environments, so it is relevant to sport.
Figure 2.12 illustrates the relations of the schema, gaze, visual, a from nd motor systems during the
performance of a visually controlled action. (Adapted Land 2009:51 62).
The gaze system, consisting of the frontal eye fields is responsible for locating and fixating
(targeting) task relevant objects. The visual system, located in the occipital lobe and much of the
temporal lobe supplies information to the other two systems, providing feedback as to what is
being fixated and directional guidance to the motor system. In this way the eyes act to gather the
information necessary for successful performance (Land 2009). In line with this thinking it is
generally accepted that eye movements tend to precede motor actions by about one second, this is
dependent on the specific task demands (Land Furneaux 1997, Land 2009).
It has been identified that the first visible response in visually guided action is usually an eye
movement corresponding to the direction and location of some feature important for task
execution. The eyes then fixate and

it is then that he becomes a saboteur to the public. ... You re a saboteur, you know that? You re

The Issue Of India Is Illiteracy
Abstract The most significant issue in India is Illiteracy. Literacy along with awareness among
the masses will enable the curb of social evils. Movies have the power to reach massive
audiences, which is why they should, and do, matter so much to society. Only bookish
knowledge is not sufficient to change the society. Gone are the days when we were followers. In
21st century we have to be trendsetter. Every person has his new story. We have to visualize
ourselves. We need to recognize us. This is happened only in cinema. All of life s riddles are
answered in the movies Key words: literacy, trendsetter, recognize, visualize 1. Introduction India
has faced and still facing many social, political and economic issues. However every social
problem is inter related. The most significant issue in India is Illiteracy. Literacy along with
awareness among the masses will enable the curb of social evils. Only by educating the masses,
can there be change and progress in the country. Cinema as the most popular media can directly
influence the masses by making them see the world around them in an artistic way and think
positively and act proactively. Indian cinema which is now a century old has recently undergone a
change and is fast emerging as a delightful medium of instruction, and motivational. Recently many
films have been produced that aim at exploiting and utilizing creativity for educating the people. I

Comparing Thomas Hobbes And John Locke Laws Of Nature
The Laws of Nature
Both Hobbes and Locke come up with their own versions of the laws of nature. A law of nature
is a general rule that is come to by reason and common sense. Unlike a civil law, the laws of
nature don t have to be written down. These laws are just put into place by basic human reason.
The laws of nature are thought of when talking about the state of nature. Both Hobbes and Locke
discuss the state of nature, but see it in different ways, resulting in different laws of nature per the
two philosophers.
Hobbes sees the state of nature as a horrible place where fear rules every person living inside of
it. In his book Leviathan , he concluded that men must seek peace to preserve their own life.
Because of this Hobbes says that the first law of nature is, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

accounts of the laws of nature affect his overall political philosophy by making him see the state of
nature as an unforgiving place of war and that men should do everything possible to escape it.
He believed that even when under a government that is corrupt and oppressive, would be better that
being under no government at all and being in the state of nature.
In the Second Treatise of Civil Rights , Locke sees the state of nature as a place of equality, where
no one has power over the other and all can do whatever it is that they want.
However, this liberty still does not give someone the right to do harm on to another (Locke, 365).

An Analysis Of Katherine Anne Porter s The Grave
An intriguing setting is crucial to a successful story. When a book or story does not have a
proper setting the reader is going to be uninterested and unimpressed. Usually when a reader is
uninterested or unimpressed with the reading, they will put in down and not finishing reading.
The goal of any writer should be to make the reader visually picture their story or book. When a
reader can visualize the story, they tend to be entertained with the reading and finish to the end.
Writers have to bring the book to life with the details of the surrounding atmosphere. The reader
wants to be able to see the green pasture or taste the homemade apple pie just from the description.
I enjoy reading and I will not finish reading a storyif the setting is not detailed. One more
important aspect of a great story is symbolism. As a reader, I m always searching to find a deeper
meaning. The Grave by Katherine Anne Porter, she does a stellar job at bringing the reader in and
making them feel as if they were apart of the story. Even though, every story or book has a setting,
characters, and symbolism, it needs to be great setting, relatable characters, and deep symbolism for
the reader to interpret and also captured the immediate attention of the reader.

Al Biruni s India
In the first few excerpts from Al Biruni s India an informative text on his observation of Indian life
Al Biruni sets up the stage for his readers to develop a mindset necessary to understand his
description of Indian culture, philosophy, language, etc. In this paper, I will establish that Al Biruni
s experience, and hence his explanation of Indiashould have been considerably impacted by his
sociopolitical standing. At the same time, I will make the case that despite of his keen efforts to
limit his text to informative purposes, he fails to prevent his out group bias from appearing in his
writing.
It is not a revelation that the first chapter is focused on the identification of problems that the
Muslims and other foreigners have been facing in understanding the Indian culture. However, in
addition to defining the specific problems such as pitfalls in language and the community s
resistance against foreigners, Al Biruni also elaborates on his personal encounter and approach to
those problems. In his language analysis, for instance, he describes the physical difficulty in
pronouncing and understanding some of the Sanskrit words as our tongue and uvula could scarcely
pronounce them and in order to fix the pronunciation we must change our orthographical points and
signs. From this effort to establish a personalized connection to the reader s native language and
accent, it can be inferred that he is trying to provide a foundational reference to the readers, to
eventually ease their intrusion into the Hindu mindset.
One of the surface takeaways of the first few passages is the straightforward recognition of the
audience i.e. other Muslims, who will be depending on this book for their first exposure to Indian
subcontinent. It is important to note that the author does not use the word Indian to address the
natives of Indian subcontinent; rather addresses them as Hindus throughout the piece. He also
categorizes the barriers he explained as those separating Muslims and Hindus and not Indians from
foreigners. This excludes people living in the Indian subcontinent practicing any religion other than
Hinduism (like Buddhism) from Al Biruni s analysis, and creates religiously powered in group and

Desire Vs. Morality And Duty
Section I: Theme Desire vs. Morality and Duty: Throughout the novel, Ethan seems to struggle
with managing his desire for Mattie and his duty as a husband. This theme is apparent
throughout the entirety of the novella. It starts before the book even begins. Ethan, in the first
chapter, admits to often walking Mattie, his wife s cousin, home just to spend few minutes
alone with her. However it is first mentioned in the book when Ethan is standing alone, just
watching Mattie dance. He knows he has a wife to get back to, but yet all he can imagine is
being in that party and being the one who is dancing passionately with Mattie. Although, his
sense of duty and morality is not only because of his relationship with Zeena, but because he
fears the way his society would react to such a scandal. Although his desire to leave Zeena, a
sour and sickly old woman, is somewhat understandable, he knows that his society would shun
him if he abandoned her for another woman. Later in the book, this theme is again apparent
when Zeena must leave to see a new doctor about her illness. Ethan loses his sense of duty to her,
and lies to Zeena so that he can spend time with the one he so desires. However in chapter nine,
this theme is most apparent. After Zeena tells Ethan that she is to throw Mattie, the love of his life
and the last force that could make him happy, out on the streets to make room for a new hired girl,
Ethan devises a plan to run off with Mattie. He spends an entire night making

cities in a developed country. There are some factors that contribute to TB which are
immigration, social inequalities, HIV infection and misuse of drugs or alcohol (Millet et al.,
2012). The TB incidence is increasing when the HIV infection among the population is
increasing. In Western Europe, the TB cases occur because of immigration. So, there are
different epidemiological pattern in different countries due to different factors that contribute to
it (Glaziou et al., 2013). In 2012, there roughly 13% of TB patients were HIV positive. In Africa,
estimation that there is 75% of TB cases with HIV positive (WHO, 2013). HIV will affect the
immune response, which is the cell mediated immunity that carry out by helper T cell. HIV
positive patients have lower amount of helper T cell as compared to HIV negative patients with
TB. This cell is extreme important in defending against TB. HIV infection will accelerate TB
infection and the risk of death in HIV TB co infected patients is higher (Sharma et al., 2005).
Since 1990 the mortality rate of TB is decreased by 45% and the incidence rate is also decreased in
major regions of the world. This is aid by the program Stop TB Strategy that organised by

Partial-Birth Abortion
Sem 2 DB # 1
In reviewing a woman s right to abortion, I defer to the Eight and Ninth Circuits decision in part,
finding the Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act unconstitutional. Here, I dissent the Court s decision
ruling the Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act should be sustained. The Act restricting abortion
procedures that are proven to be reasonably safe, without any exceptions to the ban, fails to provide
safeguards for a woman s life or health. It imposes substantial obstacles in her path to choose her
faith and to exercise her reproductive right protected by the Constitution.
The Tenth Amendment of the United States Constitution provides The powers not delegated to the
United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, ... Show more content on

In our long history as well as in the modern society, childbearing and motherhood have
undoubtedly held a great weight in most women s lives. We cannot deny that a woman s choice
to bear a child or not would have significant impact on the health and welfare of a woman.
Although it is important that the government s act is intended to protect profound respect for
human life, the Court s decision would allow the federal government to overstep the boundary of
a woman s liberty and discerning decision. The Act would impose an undue burden and
substantial obstacles on a woman s right to abortion. Power to enact a law to promote welfare of
individuals is vested with the state, not Congress, unless otherwise such power is expressly
prohibited by the Constitution. In the present case, the state s power to regulate procedural options
for a legal abortion is not expressly prohibited by the

What Are The Four Basic Techniques In Physical Assessment
16. Demonstrate the four basic techniques utilized in the pysical assessment. The four basic
techniques utilized in the physical assessment are inspection, palpation, percussion, and
ascultation. To begin the techniques I will first wash my hands, and then make the patient as
comfortable as possible. Then I will start by inspecting the patient. I will observe the patient s
state of consciousness by having the patient repeat their name and date of birth along with telling
me where they are at, and what the date is. If there are any abnoramalities their, I will document
them. Next I will observe their overall state of health, look for any signs of physical distress. I will
then look for any lacerations, bruises, visible lumps or bumps, or things such as moles and birth
marks, and body symmetry. Again, if anything is abnormal I will document my findings. Also when
inspecting the patient I will document any oders and note their nature and source. If everything is

Before administering any medication to a patient I check to see if I have the right patient by
checking their bracelet, and have them repeat their name and date of birth, then compare the name
on the medication to the information on the bracelet, and to what the patient has stated and verify
any allergies. Once I have the right patient, I will verify that I have the right medication. First, I
will check the medication order, and if something is unclear then I would ask the prescribing
physician to clarify the order. The next thing I must do is triple check the medication label. The
triple check involves checking the label when you retreive the medication, prepare the medication,
and before administering the medication. A side note to include here is that a nurse must never
administer medication that was prepared by another

The Flight Research Paper
The Flight
Maritza Nunez
Keiser University
The Flight Flying on an airplane has always been one of the most exciting experiences in the life
of a person. For many people it is a process that causes them fear. Others love the idea of flying.
For me it was the first time I flew in an airplane, it was an experience full of adrenaline, and one
of the best moments of my life. Love every part of being in an airplane. Going into the airplane,
takeoff, landing and of course the best moment of all was to see my mom again. Boarding the
airplane was interesting. After arriving at the airport and saying goodbye to my family, it was time
to move to check in my flight. While in the line he could hear a sweet voice calling ... Show more

The more we advanced they were seeing more lights. These turned into a big city, Miami . At
that time I did not know whether it was fantasy or reality. Seeing Miami for the first time from
the sky gave me the idea of a toy city. A city where the night is full of life, lights and movement.
Suddenly again the same pleasant voice that greeted us on the plane ride. This time to inform us
that we were about to land. When we flew over the airport and see that big building made me
feel that many surprises were to come. During the landing there was a bit of turbulence, it was
funny because it felt like when you go in a car and there are bumps in the road. After landing, I
went to the emigration office. This office was filled with people in suits and all talking in
English, giving me the security that I was in right place. After finish the whole process of
emigration, came the most anticipated part of my entire trip, see my mom. Down the ramp my
mom was the first thing I saw. Seeing her was as if time stopped, as if it were a movie meeting.
While I hug her, her skin felt so soft. I feel that sweet smell that has always characterized her. Tears
began to show up in our eyes witnessing a beautiful family

The Smallpox Virus
Smallpox is one of the most lethal virus known to man. It is devastating to individual systems, and
it s high level of contagion makes it a major threat to populations, as seen historically, before mass
vaccination was available. For many years before an understanding about the virus was developed,
thousands suffered and died from it, with no relief except perhaps that of a comforting nurse. As
scientific inquiry advanced, so did the approach to dealing with the virus, beginning with its
primitive inoculation, to it s eradication from the natural environment. In recent years, the study of
the virus has lead to harnessing it in the laboratory with the constant threat of biological warfare.
The virus now lays dormant in freezers of American... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

significantly. However, it became evident that those people living in wealthy countries and
households had greater access to the smallpox vaccine as many of the reported cases were
located in rural, low socio economic areas of the world (Henderson Benard, ch. 6). A study of
first world populations, that is, Europe and North America, shows that life expectancy has
increased in England, France and the United States by as much as thirty years since the year
1900 (Fogel, 2004). Furthermore, the last recorded case of smallpox occurred in Somalia in 1977

Test Anxiety Analysis
The first lecture exam wasn t hard, but my score did not reflect this. I received a 72 percent
because of the issues that I had. Answer changing, not studying enough, and test anxiety are what
caused this test to go bad. But now I know some strategies to help with these problems.
I have severe test anxiety. Whenever I hear the word test I start freaking out. I go into the exam
thinking that I m prepared and going to pass, but during the test, my mind goes completely
blank. And once the test is over I pray that I at least got a C. The West Virginia University
Student Center of Health gave me strategies to help with this. The article that I read told me that
I should study before the day of the test and that on the day of the test I shouldn t. I should only
review my material, just read over it once, because when I try to cram on the day of the exam that
fuels my anxiety and makes me worry ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I didn t study as much as I should have. Mostly because studying is boring and I am not motivated
to do. The Oxford Royal Academy says that to make studying more enjoyable and efficient is to
make it creative. Like making mnemonics, flashcards, and turning your notes into lyrics for a song.
Another strategy they recommended was listening to music while you study because it will
stimulate your brain cells. Mozart is one of the artist that the Oxford Royal Academy believed
would help.
In conclusion, although answer changing, not studying enough, and test anxiety are problems
that I will continue to face for the rest of my test taking career, I now know strategies that will
aid me in not being so affected by them. The strategies I learned were to study hard, find creative
ways to study, listen to music while you study, do not cram, skip questions you don t know, and
do not go back and change the answer to questions that you ve already answered. I believe that if I
use these strategies consistently I can get a higher score on the rest of my

Golden Retriever Research Paper
Golden Retriever History: Where and When Did They Originate?
A Golden Retriever is one of the most popular and recognizable breeds of today. Its origins,
however, were a subject of debate for a very long time. Many argued that they came from a whole
pack of Russian tracker sheepdogs bought from a circus. But it wasn t until the earliest records of
its history came out in 1952 that a Golden Retriever had an origin to look back into. Time to set the
record straight.
The Golden Retriever is an early 19th century breed that was developed after a long line of
breeding from the Irish setter, Tweed water spaniel and Newfoundland dogs, with a goal to develop
a hunting dog that has the size, endurance and ability to retrieve a large number of game

The Charge of the Light Brigade and Attack Essay
The Charge of the Light Brigade and Attack The Charge of the light Brigade by Alfred Lord
Tennyson and Attack by Siegfried Sassoon are two very dissimilar poems. Both of them are on
the same topic of war but have many contrasts in how they treat the subject matter, war. The main
difference between these two poems is the audience that they were written for. Tennyson, as poet
laureate, was written for public reading, but Sassoon s work which showed more emotion and
feeling, was therefore more of a private poem. The poems tone and mood are very different.
Tennyson s poem is a triumphant, victorious and celebratory poem. This is because the Victorians
did not want to read about defeat, as it was not considered... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

While time ticks blank on their busy wrists. The language in the two poems is different. The
poets use different literary terms. Tennyson begins his poem by using anaphora in the opening
lines, Half a league, half a league, half a league onward. Anaphora is the repetition of certain
words or words to obtain a rhythmic pattern. In this historic war, the men charged at the enemy
guns on horseback, so this repetition in Tennyson s opening lines could be associated with the
sound of galloping horses. Tennyson uses this again when he writes, Cannon to the right of
them, Cannon to the left of them, Cannon in front of them. Tennyson also uses rhetorical
questions in his poem, for example, Was there a man dismay d? and When can their glory fade?
These are questions to which no answer is required, and add dramatic effect to the poem. Then
he uses the phrase, The Valley of Death, to describe the valley in which the charge took place.
This phrase is taken from the Bible ( Psalm 23). In other translations of the Bible ( The Good
News Bible), it is translated as, the deepest darkness . Tennyson uses it with dramatic effect as if
the men were ordered to go into the deepest darkness to charge down the cannons. During the
Victorian period of history the Bible would have been important to the Victorian people and so the
poem appealed to their cultural knowledge. Tennyson also uses other terms to

The Increase of Chemical Suicide in United States and Its...
Chemical suicide is a growing problem all around the world. This form of suicide was created in
Japan, but now it is growing rapidly across the United States in recent years. People committing
this type of suicide are looking to kill themselves, and also may want to harm or kill first
responders in the process as well. This puts a large amount of people in danger in the immediate
area where the chemicals are located. These situations might not be clear to first responders upon
arrival and could cause injury or deathif they are not wearing proper personal protective equipment.
Chemical suicides became prevalent in the United States around 2008. Since then, the number of
suicides has been rising faster as the years go by. These forms of... Show more content on

These situations are dangerous and have to be treated with extreme caution. When first responders
are responding to a call of possible chemical suicide, they have to approach it with extreme caution
and be very aware of the situation. Most of the time at these situations, the person attempting to
use these chemicals to commit suicide will post some kind of warning for first responders as
well as other people. For example, a situation of chemical suicide in a car, the person might post
a sign in the window of the car as a warning to people and first responders on scene.
(FEMA.Gov). Although leaving a note or sign to warn people might happen, it is not always the
case. Some chemical suicides will not be as noticeable as others. A chemical suicide in a car can
produce levels of 8,000 parts per million in that car. Unless the responder is aware of the danger
and is wearing breathing apparatus when the door is opened, they may easily be killed with the
first breath they take. (Rowley). When approaching the scene, take time to do a full size up of
the scene and look inside the car through the window. You might be able to see and buckets or
cans that could have possibly been where the chemicals were mixed. (Oreshan III/Stevens, 2011).
This is something that is simple that first responders can and should do but it is easily overlooked
as well. There are other ways to tell if someone committed suicide with chemicals. For example, a
car could

Christian God Evil
I. Introduction
One of the oldest dilemmas in philosophy is also one of the greatest threats to Christian theology.
The problem of evil simultaneously perplexes the world s greatest minds and yet remains
relatively close to the hearts of the most common people. If God is good, then why is there evil?
These facts about evil and suffering seem to conflict with the orthodox theist claim that there exists
a perfectly good God. The challenged posed by this apparent conflict has come to be known as the
problem of evil. If God were all knowing, it seems that God would know about all the horrible
things that happen in our world. If God were all powerful, God would be able to do something
about all the evil and suffering. Furthermore, if God were morally ... Show more content on

If an all PKG being existed, then there would be no evil. There is evil. Hence, there is no God.
From that argument, God would seem like he could not exist with evil. Many believe he can due
to different reasons. The theodicy of free will and character building tries to show evidence
about those claims. Premise 2 claiming that a PKG God could not exist with evil could be
disproven. It could be due to greater good that we may not see in the present or see near us.
Premise 1 could be viewed as a definition but is more of a conditional statement saying if he
existed, he would have those attributes. Premise 3 is what discusses evil, either of the two forms, I

Grueber s Report
Grueber should report to the CFO about the issues affecting Steelcase. The reason for this report is
to give management a new perspective of its own performance. The report could also serve to make
them aware of the impact of their breakdown in communication to analysts or investors, which
resulted in the company losing credibility. In other words, the communication breakdown that
Steelcase experienced was a result of managements failure to provide transparent, insight into
decision making at the company or strategic direction of the company (Argenti, 2013).

  • 2. Analysis Of The Street By Ann Petry Being new to an unfamiliar place is always a challenge and bring discomfort, being alone and knowing no one. In The Street , Ann Petry uses personification, selection of detail, and imagery in order to reveal Lutie s relationship to the urban setting and to show the challenges Lutie Johnson faces in the urban environment. At the beginning of the passage, Petry uses imagery in order to set the environment in which the main character is introduced. Petry starts off with a cold November windblowing through the 116th street in order to show the environment as cold and breezy by saying the cold wind that is blowing around they urban cityand the dirt blowing around into people s eyes to introduce the setting. She then goes to further introduce the setting by talking about the scraps of paper flying around and how it did everything it could in order to discourage the people walking along the streets. This allows the reader to picture the urban setting by appealing to their sense of touch where you can feel the cold climate in the city and create a picture in their mind of garbage and paper flying around and hindering the people s lives. Petry uses this in order to highlight Lutie Johnson s eventual introduction to the urban setting and her unfamiliarity with the urban by letting us predict the challenges Lutie Johnson will soon face there. Petry is able to create images in our head in order to show Lutie Johnson in the urban setting; you are able to feel the cold, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Quality Of Measures This paper will highlight the information epidemiologists utilize to evaluate the quality of measures used in research as well as provide reasons why the quality of measures are essential and finally explain how epidemiologists ensure the measures used in research are of good quality. a.What type of information do epidemiologists use to judge/evaluate the quality of their measures? Tests for validity and reliability are the criteria mostly used by epidemiologists to judge the quality of measures used in research. Reliability of the measure shows that when different observers use the measure at different occasions, they will obtain similar test results (1). For example, a measure that determines weight gain among male adults in Saskatoon ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The standards of acceptable reliability which epidemiologists seeks to attain include internal consistency exceeding 0.8 and stability measures greater than 0.5 (3), nevertheless, even if the internal consistency of a measure is low, it is better the measure has high stability and content validity. Validity tests involve ensuring that the instrument is measuring what the epidemiologist intended (4), validity has several components including content and construct validity. Validity of the measure at minimum can be assessed subjectively by expert opinion of one or more experts in the field of study, where experts review the measure to determine if the instrument appears to be assessing the desired qualities (Face Validity) or determining whether the instrument samples all the relevant content (Content Validity) (3). Additionally, constructs are mini theories used to assist in developing a new or better instrument in order to explain a broader range of findings or make more accurate predictions about a person s behavior. Hence, when no other measures exist, the epidemiologist can link an attribute measured to another attribute by a hypothesis or construct and test the instrument by applying it to a sample to determine if the expected relationship is obtained; this is regarded as construct validity. For example; if a test for blood sugar was devised because there is no other test ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. An Analysis Of Euripides Medea The Character of Medea in Euripides Euripides presents one of the most shocking female characters in literature, through Medea, a devotee of the goddess Hecate, and one of the great sorceresses of the ancient world. She was the daughter of King Aeetes of Colchis, and the granddaughter of Helios, the sun god. King Aeetes most valuable possession was a golden ram s fleece. When Jason, the man Medea falls in love with, arrives at Colchis seeking the Golden Fleece, Aeetes sets Jason a series of seemingly impossible tasks as the price for obtaining it. Medea falls in love with Jason and agrees to use her magic to help him, in return for Jason s promise to marry her. Jason fled once he obtained the Golden Fleece, taking Medea and her younger brother, Absyrtis, with him, as King Aeetes pursued them. In order to delay the pursuit, Medea killed her brother and cut his body into pieces, scattering the parts behind the ship. This caused the pursuers to stop and collect Absyrtis dismembered body in order to give it proper burial, which thus gave Jason, Medea and the Argonauts the time to escape. On Jason s safe return to his home in Iolcus, Medea continued to use her sorcery. She restored the youth of Jason s aged father, Aeson, by cutting his throat and filling his body with a magical potion. She tricked Pelias daughters into killing him, but left the corpse without any youth restoring potion. After the murder of Pelias, Jason and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Reflection Paper On The Movie Precious After speaking with my classmate, the film I choose to watch was Precious because she gave it a glowing review and highly recommend it. Furthermore, the movie was a perfect fit for me as I have personally not had many interactions with poor inner city people of color, and the limited interactions I have had were not in the environment where they live their daily lives. Additionally, I asked my girlfriend if she had a movie recommendation out of the list of films that were available after removing the movies I had already seen. Ultimately, Precious stood out to her as an excellent movie that painted an insightful illustration of life in the poor inner city community. Although she saw the movie several years ago, she recalled that the filmevoked many strong emotional responses which made a lasting impact and enduring perspective. Once she gave that feedback, the decision of which movie to watch was not difficult. As I watched the film, I, like my girlfriend, experienced a wide range of emotions which included; anger, fear, empathy, frustration, and pride. For example, I was frustrated when Preciouses mother berated her after Preciouses teacher visited the pairs home and informed both of the opportunity that Precious had to attend an alternative school by calling her stupid, asking if she thought she was better than her, and physically abusing her. Also, I was frustrated when the mother forced Precious to overeat when Precious did not prepare the mother s dinner ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Glasgow Coma Scale And The Renin-Angiotensin System Question 1: An unaltered consciousness occurs when the Renin Angiotensin (RAS) system is working at 100% (Blyth Bazarian, 2010). When changes such as head traumas, aging, concussions, strokes, etc. occur the RAS system would be damaged overtime (Barritt Smithard, 2011). The more often these occur, the more it is damaged. If RAS does not seem to be working adequately it would mean that it is not be properly communicating with the cerebral cortex, this then causing the patient to become less alert (Craig, 2003). His consciousness can only be tested by external stimuli to test for the functioning of the RAS (through Auditory/Visual stimuli which in turn activate RAS). This is why the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) is used as a measure a conscious state (Braine Cook, 2017). It tests and scores the visual, verbal and motor response. The lower the GCS score the more of an altered conscious state the patient is said to have. Typically the lower scores also have a worsened prognosis and/or poorer outcome on the Glasgow Outcome Scale in an adult (Weir, et al., 2012). Mr Shepard had altered level of consciousness at a GCS of 12. When a patient has no altered level of consciousness they are given a score of 15 (Mena, et al., 2011). Anything less than that actions need to be implemented to prevent further deterioration and try to bring the GCS back to 15 so there is no altered conscious state. Thus, share price increases from 0.17 to 24.22 times as more shareholders invested in it but in 2014 2013, it decreases to 18.56 as the shareholders are making a loss in the NAV ratio, thus pulling out their investment. NAV Ratio (Net Asset Value Per Share) 2012: 0.38 2013: 0.70 2014: 0.90 The NAV ratio is drastically decreasing over the years, showing that the company is slowly becoming more undervalued in 2013 to 2014. This shows that the shareholders are not earning their investment. CONCLUSION Due to Far East Orchid s declining profitability, the company turns to increasing its gearing ratio to fund its financial and operational needs. This excessive increase in current assets results in the company being too liquid, and its extreme increase of selling inventory caused its quick ratio to drop below the recommended level. The inconsistent inventory turnover shows inefficiency in managing their assets. And finally, this causes the company to be undervalued. As seen from the above ratios, our recommendation would be not to invest in this company, as it is not only making a loss of profits, but also going into debt to solve its low profit

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lighting is used multiple times throughout the film to support the theme of friendship. The first example of lighting is present in the opening scenes of the movie. As Bruno and his friends are playfully running through the streets of Berlin, the sun is shining and the picture is bright. In contrast, Bruno s home when he finds out that his family is moving is dark and gloomy. Once again, the director uses the lighting to display Bruno s emotions. When Bruno is with his friends, the shining light indicates his happiness. However, when Bruno discovers that he is leaving his friends, the dark lighting displays Bruno s dismal feeling. Similarly, the same concepts are used in the later stages of the film. As Bruno wanders into the backyard, he finds the shed with a window, a possible route to the farm . As Bruno looks up at the window, the light shining through the open window is vibrant. This bright light represents Bruno s escape from this place without friends to the farm where friendship surely awaits him. Finally, the director uses lighting in scenes with both Bruno and Shmuel to show their friendship. It stated that further efforts by European nations to take control of any independent state in North or South America would be viewed as the manifestation of an unfriendly disposition toward the United States. The Doctrine was issued on December 2, 1823 at a time when nearly all Latin American colonies of Spain and Portugal had achieved or were at the point of gaining independence from the Portuguese and Spanish Empires. By the end of the 19th century, Monroe s declaration was seen as a defining moment in the foreign policy of the United States and one of its longest standing tenets. It would be invoked by many U.S. statesmen and several U.S. presidents, including Ulysses S. Grant, Theodore Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy, and Ronald Reagan. • 17. Impact Of The Space Race RQ: How and to what extent did the Space Race have a impact on United States s defense technologies? On October 4th, 1957 the Soviet Union launched the first ever satellite, Sputnik. The launch of Sputnik sent the United States into a frenzy, beginning the Space Race, and the innovation of technology as a whole. The Space Race most importantly had a major impact on the evolution of the United States s defense technologies through the launch of Sputnik. The Space Race sparked the United States battle for technological superiority against the USSR, and lead to improvizations in their satellite and satellite defense technologies. From a United States and Soviet Union perspective that conveys that the Space Race had a minor impact on the improvisation of United States defense technologies; the Space Race was in a way responsible for the United State s production of new technology of missiles and defense against intercontinental ballistic missiles. In the late 1950s the United States Air Force started a series of advanced strategic missile projects under the Weapon System WS 199A called Martin s Bold Orion air launched ballistic missile (ALBM). • 18. School Uniforms Policy Analysis Local school districts, the state, individual schools, and the state have mutual interest embedded into the decision of adopting a uniform policy. As a result, school uniforms can be mandatory in some schools while in others remain voluntary. The wearing of a school uniform implies that all students in the school are required to wear clothing that matches in color, length, and design. There have been arguments put across against the wearing of uniformsin schools. The primary argument against implementation of school uniforms policy is that it is an infringement of the first amendment Rights of the USA constitution (DeMitchell Fossey, 2015). Peer pressure is human nature that has limited control. Both the advertising and the fashion industries, along with the other instruments of the media in our way of life, impacts to the peer pressure we go through (Roman Taylor, 2013). The students do feel not only the pressure to conform but also the parents and the teachers in general. Students are under the pressure to wear the so called fresh outfits so that they can ultimately fit in with their peers. Making a fashion statement is the medium to be accepted and liked amongst an individual s peers (Sanchez et al., 2012). As a result, students impact the pressure to their parents in their efforts to have cool clothes that will enable them to fit in with their peers. Parents thus find themselves in a situation of purchasing attires that meet the peer s requirement despite the fact that they are also subject to go out of style. School uniforms will thus give students and parents another useful weapon in their war against social pressures and thus enable students to lay less prominence on trendy clothes and more emphasis on affecting their education. For some students, more so girls, uniforms will give them more time to sleep or do something constructive in the morning rather than deciding what trendy outfit to wear (Sanchez et al., 2012). It is conclusive that uniforms promote a relevant law that people should be judged by their character and not their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One such animal where this is especially apparent is the evolution of the horse. In order to survive, horses evolved traits such as longer limbs, rigid teeth and others that allowed them the best chance of survival. Overall, it is apparent that the morphology of the horse changed due to environmental conditions, especially when studying the fossilized teeth, jaws, and limbs. One of the earliest horse speciesis known as Hyracotherium. It is believed that this species did not live on open grasslands like modern horses but instead, lived in thick, closed canopy forests. As we saw in lab, the teeth of Hyracotherium are rather pointed which indicates that the species was a browser of leaves and fruits in forests. Its small skull and rostrum also leads one to believe that it had a diet of these easily chewable foods found in closed canopy forests. In contrast, the modern horse has very flat rigid teeth which indicates the species is a grazer of grass. Team Process Of A Team Team Process: When becoming a part of a team, at the beginning of this semester, I never imagined how much teamwork and communication was needed to get even an entry level project done in a team. One of the best traits of my team was our excellent use of coordination. Coordination helped us stay organized, as well as made each team member more effective. We never missed a team meeting, and always completed our assigned work on time. The Gantt chart we created towards the beginning of our project, helped each member stay organized, so no one member took on a larger share of work than assigned to. As well as staying organized, we worked well as a team, and I believe we all respected each others abilities to complete our own tasks. The reason we were able to function so well, was because only the facilitator had the desire to lead. There were no power struggle and confrontations. There were never conflicting ideas in the team, we all accepted what we had to do and let one person take charge. However, that doesn t mean, we didn t put in a lot work. Recently there are trails to raise this life in new constructions as well as the old ones to 60 years (1 4). During this prolonged lifetime components are exposed to degradation that may affect safe operation of the plant. Such influences affect pressure retaining items of the plant including reactor pressure vessel, reactor piping, bolting and threaded fasteners, steam generator materials and several other items (5). The Reactor Pressure Vessel (RPV) is the most critical component in the LWR pressure boundary. It is the only component in this boundary whose failure is considered to be of such low probability that it is considered essentially incredible. NRC regulations require that RPV steels maintain conservative margin for fracture toughness so that flaws do not threaten the integrity of a RPV during either normal operation and maintenance cycles or under accident transients such as Pressurized Thermal Shock (PTS) (6). The major technical issues regarding aging of RPV include: high fluences, for long times that may lead to high emrittlement creating large uncertainties for emrittlement predictions (7). Increasing nickel content in the RPV steel, all other factors being equal, causes increasing emrittlement (7). The degradation mechanisms that may affect RPV include Irradiation embrittlement, Thermal ageing, Temper embrittlement, Fatigue and Corrosion (8). Concerning nuclear piping the main degradation ... Consumerism gives our country an upside unlike many other countries in that you could grow up in a hardworking blue collar family and become the most successful person in America. Executive Systems Responsible for Visually Guided Movement Land (2009) suggests that three executive systems are responsible for visually guided movements, namely gaze, vision and action, and these are overseen by a fourth system labelled the schema system. Figure 2.12 is an illustration a particular model that has been developed to explain visually guided movement in natural environments, so it is relevant to sport. Figure 2.12 illustrates the relations of the schema, gaze, visual, a from nd motor systems during the performance of a visually controlled action. (Adapted Land 2009:51 62). The gaze system, consisting of the frontal eye fields is responsible for locating and fixating (targeting) task relevant objects. The visual system, located in the occipital lobe and much of the temporal lobe supplies information to the other two systems, providing feedback as to what is being fixated and directional guidance to the motor system. In this way the eyes act to gather the information necessary for successful performance (Land 2009). In line with this thinking it is generally accepted that eye movements tend to precede motor actions by about one second, this is dependent on the specific task demands (Land Furneaux 1997, Land 2009). It has been identified that the first visible response in visually guided action is usually an eye movement corresponding to the direction and location of some feature important for task execution. Hobbes accounts of the laws of nature affect his overall political philosophy by making him see the state of nature as an unforgiving place of war and that men should do everything possible to escape it. He believed that even when under a government that is corrupt and oppressive, would be better that being under no government at all and being in the state of nature. In the Second Treatise of Civil Rights , Locke sees the state of nature as a place of equality, where no one has power over the other and all can do whatever it is that they want. However, this liberty still does not give someone the right to do harm on to another (Locke, 365). He determines from this statement that natural law exist in the state of nature. • 38. An Analysis Of Katherine Anne Porter s The Grave An intriguing setting is crucial to a successful story. When a book or story does not have a proper setting the reader is going to be uninterested and unimpressed. Usually when a reader is uninterested or unimpressed with the reading, they will put in down and not finishing reading. The goal of any writer should be to make the reader visually picture their story or book. When a reader can visualize the story, they tend to be entertained with the reading and finish to the end. Writers have to bring the book to life with the details of the surrounding atmosphere. The reader wants to be able to see the green pasture or taste the homemade apple pie just from the description. I enjoy reading and I will not finish reading a storyif the setting is not detailed. One more important aspect of a great story is symbolism. As a reader, I m always searching to find a deeper meaning. The Grave by Katherine Anne Porter, she does a stellar job at bringing the reader in and making them feel as if they were apart of the story. Even though, every story or book has a setting, characters, and symbolism, it needs to be great setting, relatable characters, and deep symbolism for the reader to interpret and also captured the immediate attention of the reader. When thinking of a gravesite or cemetery most people s minds automatically think dark, haunted and scary. A cemetery does not have a reputation of being very fun to go to, it will always have a gloomy or scary reputation. The description of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

History Of The Pill The Pill In 1960, the first oral contraceptive, Envoid, was introduced to the United States and approved by the Food and Drug Administration as a method of birth control(Thompson). Oral contraceptives, like all contraceptives, reduced the chances of getting pregnant. The major difference of this method is that it altered the hormones that a woman s body released. The introduction of the pill drastically changed many aspects of society, one being that women and men were now able to have absolute power over their method of contraceptive. It took nearly ten years to research and develop the first oral contraceptive. Researcher, George Pincus, and organic chemist, Russel Marker, worked together to create the pill (Background.) • 40. Al Biruni s India In the first few excerpts from Al Biruni s India an informative text on his observation of Indian life Al Biruni sets up the stage for his readers to develop a mindset necessary to understand his description of Indian culture, philosophy, language, etc. In this paper, I will establish that Al Biruni s experience, and hence his explanation of Indiashould have been considerably impacted by his sociopolitical standing. At the same time, I will make the case that despite of his keen efforts to limit his text to informative purposes, he fails to prevent his out group bias from appearing in his writing. It is not a revelation that the first chapter is focused on the identification of problems that the Muslims and other foreigners have been facing in understanding the Indian culture. However, in addition to defining the specific problems such as pitfalls in language and the community s resistance against foreigners, Al Biruni also elaborates on his personal encounter and approach to those problems. In his language analysis, for instance, he describes the physical difficulty in pronouncing and understanding some of the Sanskrit words as our tongue and uvula could scarcely pronounce them and in order to fix the pronunciation we must change our orthographical points and signs. From this effort to establish a personalized connection to the reader s native language and accent, it can be inferred that he is trying to provide a foundational reference to the readers, to eventually ease their intrusion into the Hindu mindset. One of the surface takeaways of the first few passages is the straightforward recognition of the audience i.e. other Muslims, who will be depending on this book for their first exposure to Indian subcontinent. It is important to note that the author does not use the word Indian to address the natives of Indian subcontinent; rather addresses them as Hindus throughout the piece. He also categorizes the barriers he explained as those separating Muslims and Hindus and not Indians from foreigners. This excludes people living in the Indian subcontinent practicing any religion other than Hinduism (like Buddhism) from Al Biruni s analysis, and creates religiously powered in group and ... • 41. Desire Vs. Morality And Duty Section I: Theme Desire vs. Morality and Duty: Throughout the novel, Ethan seems to struggle with managing his desire for Mattie and his duty as a husband. This theme is apparent throughout the entirety of the novella. It starts before the book even begins. Ethan, in the first chapter, admits to often walking Mattie, his wife s cousin, home just to spend few minutes alone with her. However it is first mentioned in the book when Ethan is standing alone, just watching Mattie dance. He knows he has a wife to get back to, but yet all he can imagine is being in that party and being the one who is dancing passionately with Mattie. Although, his sense of duty and morality is not only because of his relationship with Zeena, but because he fears the way his society would react to such a scandal. Although his desire to leave Zeena, a sour and sickly old woman, is somewhat understandable, he knows that his society would shun him if he abandoned her for another woman. Later in the book, this theme is again apparent when Zeena must leave to see a new doctor about her illness. Ethan loses his sense of duty to her, and lies to Zeena so that he can spend time with the one he so desires. However in chapter nine, this theme is most apparent. After Zeena tells Ethan that she is to throw Mattie, the love of his life and the last force that could make him happy, out on the streets to make room for a new hired girl, Ethan devises a plan to run off with Mattie. He spends an entire night making ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Act restricting abortion procedures that are proven to be reasonably safe, without any exceptions to the ban, fails to provide safeguards for a woman s life or health. Both of them are on the same topic of war but have many contrasts in how they treat the subject matter, war. The main difference between these two poems is the audience that they were written for. Tennyson, as poet laureate, was written for public reading, but Sassoon s work which showed more emotion and feeling, was therefore more of a private poem. The poems tone and mood are very different. Tennyson begins his poem by using anaphora in the opening lines, Half a league, half a league, half a league onward. Anaphora is the repetition of certain words or words to obtain a rhythmic pattern. In this historic war, the men charged at the enemy guns on horseback, so this repetition in Tennyson s opening lines could be associated with the sound of galloping horses. Tennyson uses this again when he writes, Cannon to the right of them, Cannon to the left of them, Cannon in front of them. Tennyson also uses rhetorical questions in his poem, for example, Was there a man dismay d? and When can their glory fade? These are questions to which no answer is required, and add dramatic effect to the poem. Then he uses the phrase, The Valley of Death, to describe the valley in which the charge took place. This phrase is taken from the Bible ( Psalm 23). In other translations of the Bible ( The Good News Bible), it is translated as, the deepest darkness . Tennyson uses it with dramatic effect as if the men were ordered to go into the deepest darkness to charge down the cannons.
