The Battle Of The Little Bighorn River
Little Bighorn Battle Analysis
The Battle of the Little Bighorn River, which took stage on the 25th and 26th of June 1876, was
known to the Lakota as the Battle of the Greasy Grass. This Battle was also one of the last
important stands of the American Indians against the United States of America. The Battle took
place in the Montana Territory between the combined Indian tribes of the Lakota, Northern
Cheyenne, and Arapaho tribes. These Indian tribes led by Sitting Bull, Crazy Horse and other
Indian leaders battled the Seventh Cavalry Regiment of the United States Army. The Indian forces
were victorious during this battle where they faced their much smaller in number opponent led by
General George Armstrong Custer. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the events that led to the
conflict, the environment of the battle ground, the disposition and composition of each side,
actions, inactions taken as well as the their significance.
The Indians, threatened by the expansion of the white settlements west of the Mississippi River,
this endangered their way of life that revolved around the Buffalo and eventually led to their
confinement to reservations. The United States Government claimed a large portion of their lands
for other uses but did grant the plain Indians with an area exclusive to them known as the Great
Sioux Reservation, established by the treaty of 1868. It also allowed them hunting ground and
grazing land for the Buffalo outside the reservation.

The City And Parts Of The Soul
Another premise is how justice is a craft with a particular function. All conventional items that
human beings use have a purpose otherwise its useless. Even the most ridiculous products sold on
infomercials are designed for a specific purpose. Although products being sold on infomercials are
ridiculous for being invented with a purpose in mind, but do not function well and generally make
the user of the product look foolish. Like conventional items justicehas a function. However it is
important that a thing s function is the work that it alone can do, or can do better than anyone else
(I. 353a). Basically, Platois assuming that we, human beings are dependent on each other and
working together will create a more sustainable society for all. It makes sense for every
individual to specialize in a task and can trade goods or services with one another. Plato further
applies this concept to his analogy of the city and parts of the soul.
In the creation of a city, and for the soul to be justice it has a particular hierarchical formation.
For building the ideal city, Socrates divides people into three types of classes: the ruling class, the
auxiliary or warrior class and the producer class of merchants and artisans. Each class corresponds
with a virtue and depending on a person s virtue is where a person will end up. The virtues are
wisdom for the ruling, courage for the warriors and moderation for the working class. In addition,
that we need to hone in what skills or

Transition To Total War
Total war breaks down the line separating combatants and non combatants through a series of
ideological and social justifications that allowed for barbaric acts to be committed. A war becomes
total when the nation itself must dedicate every facet of its existence as a state to the war effort.
The general population being brought into the wareffort brings to question their innocence, thus
making them targets for the enemy. The transition from a small scale war into a total war is a
gradual process, as adjusting a nation s economy and society to feed the war is a long and difficult
process.
The transition to total war depends mainly on the length of the war and the number of casualties.
A short war would not require the kind of resources and civilian support that an expansive war
would require. The Great War is often cited as being the first total war, and that is clear through
the population s view of the war as well as the soldier s. A total war can only happen if nationalism
and patriotism are high and on nearly all fronts nationalism is what rooted the soldiers in the
trenches and gave them the determination. Nationalism also gave the non combatants on the home
front a reason to support the war in other ways.
From the start this war was a different type than the cabinet style wars that were fought in the past

Analysis Of Dante Alihieri s Purgatorio By Dante Is...
In Dante Alihieri s Purgatorio, Dante is climbing up the Mount of Purgatory. Dante encounters
many trials that he must face with the help of Virgil (human reason). The closer Dante gets the to
the top of Purgatory the more and more Virgil fades away and when he finally does disappear
Beatrice is there to be Dante s guide.. Throughout Purgatorio, Alihieri uses Beatrice not only as a
symbol to portray the medieval church but also a light. This is why Dante is blinded by the sight
of Beatrice when she drops the veil. Most commentators agree with idea of Beatrice being a symbol
of both the church and light while Bernard Stambler agrees with this but he expands upon that
symbol. While most commentators believe that Beatrice is an accurate example of the Church,
others tend to believe that the chariot that Alihieri talks about in Canto 32 is a more accurate
representation of the church. John Carroll was one of the ones to believe this. In Stambler s book,
Dante s Other World; the Purgatorio as Guide to the Divine Comedy, he talks about how Beatrice is
more than just one symbol in Canto 32 and 33 in Purgatorio. He says that first, the essential
function of the Church throughout the purgatorial process and through the further preparation of
the soul for its entrance to heaven; second, the material decay into which the Church as an
institution had fallen through her usurpation of temporal functions (Stambler 271). He is saying
that Beatrice is a symbol for Church but he expands

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) Essay
If you owe your bank a hundred pounds, you have a problem; but if you owe it a million, it has.(1)
In the year of 1327, Kind Edward III of England defaulted on his Italian debts. This caused the
banks of Bardi and Peruzzi in Florence to collapse. Who would know that over 650 years later,
the world would still have these types of problems? After World War II, the need for an
organization like the IMF was finally realized. After the war, politicians and economists began to
work on blue prints for a postwar world. They envisioned a liberal international economic order,
based on stable world currencies and revived world trade. The International Monetary Fund (IMF)
finally came into existence on December 27, 1945. On this date, twenty nine ... Show more content

International banks have made risky loans all over the world because they knew that if trouble
arose, the fund would step in to resolve the situation as it has done in the past. The IMF has
played a critical role in many of the epochal events in the 1990 s. The IMF lent 18 billion dollars
to Mexico in 1994, after the peso collapsed. It gave Russia over 10 billion dollars in 1999. The
IMF has helped drive inflation from 1,000 percent a year down to a tolerable 10 percent a year,
thanks to Russia listening to what the IMF said and doing as they suggested. It has given
Indonesia 10 billion dollars, and has helped Indonesia demonopolize industries. It gave 4 billion
to Thailand, which was the epicenter of the East Asian Crisis. The IMF helped closed dozens of
reckless banks. True, the IMF did many little things wrong, however, it did the important ones
right. The Philippines is a prime example on how effectively the IMF can work. For years,
Filipinos suffered the weaknesses of economic and business policies. Under the tutelage of the
International Monetary Fund for nearly 30 years, and especially during the past decade, they
faced up to their problems. Many sectors of their society suffered greatly, and some complained
loudly. However, they persisted and, with the help of the IMF and the courage of the Philippine
people, they exited from the IMF program. How did they do this? They assembled one of the best

Polymerase Chain Reaction Lab Report
2.0 Introduction
The purpose of this laboratory experiment was to determine which suspect committed the crime.
Four potential suspects DNA were obtained as well as the DNA from the crime scene . In order
to develop some form of conclusion into the suspect two techniques are required to be used which
included a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and Agrose Gel Electrophoresis. Having this allowed
a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) to take place which then permitted the investigation to
establish a suspect to be matched. Polymerase chain reaction is a new, popular molecular biology
technique for enzymatically replicating DNA without using a living organism, such as E. coli or
yeast. The technique allows a small amount of the DNA molecule to be ... Show more content on

To prepare the gel required 0.67g of Agarose was measure out. Agarose was then blended into
134ml of TAE buffer (appendix 1) in a beaker and warmed in order to break up the agarose. A
microwave was used for this. After completion of the warm up the beaker was whirled. Once the
fluid was made it was utilised to fill the gel dish starting from one corner and was left too cool to
structure the gel. In the mean time the PCR responses from earlier on in the lab acquired and set
at the worktable. A 20ul micropipette was utilised to then include 10ul of orange G stacking
color to every tube and were then blended well by pipetting all over. Once the gel had set an
allele ladder was used to create wells so the solution could be placed. The micropipette was then
used to add the allele stepping stool to the 1st path of the gel. The DNA, which was obtained
from the crime scene, was then placed in the 2nd lane and the rest followed on in place from A
D in 3,4,5, and 6. The gel was then turned on at 100V and ran for approximately 30 minutes. On
completion it was placed under a UV light to look at the DNA and notice the relocation. Pictures
of it were taken and printed out. This can be seen in results. (Figure 2)

Existentialism and its Role Today
The Good Life is an expression representing how one would like to live out their life. In other
words, how that person achieves happiness. The three more relevant theories that correlate to the
Good Life are Daoism, Stoicism, and Existentialism. Since each person defines their happiness
differently, each person has their own opinion as to whether or not what is read to be correct or
not. The goal is to at least shine a light to what everyone seems drawn towards. Existentialismis an
important theory to consider in order to achieve the Good Life. Although existentialism may not
appeal to everyone as a reliable theory to achieve the Good Life, it does elaborate as to how
existentialism can be used to attain the Good Life in the 21st century.... Show more content on

concerns like no other philosophy: relationships, love, sex, honesty, anxiety, freedom, courage, self

throughout life.
Today, teens are always finding something to do. Whether it be relationships, love, sex, honesty,
anxiety, freedom, courage, or self realization teens have always gone through the ups and downs
and have definitely searched high and low for guidance. He goes on to further discuss peoples
attachment towards existentialism. General readers find it challenging, inspiring, and helpful in
gaining a fuller perspective on their lives. High school and university students encounter
existentialism as a refreshing change from... courses (Fox 11). Fox analyzes how students and the

The Effect Of Fast Reactants On The Rate Of A Chemical...
Introduction:
The measure of how fast reactants are converted into products is the rate of a chemical reaction.
Some reactions occur more quickly than others, but the reaction rate can be made faster or slower
depending on certain factors. Concentration, surface area, temperature, and the presence of a
catalyst are all factors that can affect the rate of a reaction. A reaction is considered complete
when the entirety of at least one of the reactants has been converted into products. If the end of a
reaction is indicated by a color change or the formation of a precipitate, then the reaction rate can be
found by measuring the time from when the reactants were mixed to when the color change
occurred or the precipitate was formed.
A rate law ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The overall order of a reaction is calculated by finding the sum of the individual orders of the
reactants.
During the lab, while the concentration of one reactant varied, the concentration of the other
reactant was held constant. The experiment was completed in this particular manner because the
concentration of one reactant had to remain the same in order to discover how varying the
concentration of the other reactant affected the reaction rate. Learning how to control the rate of a
chemical reaction is a big advantage. For example, knowing that the rusting of iron can be slowed
by painting the metal or covering it with certain substances is beneficial. The purpose of this
experiment was to determine the rate law of a chemical reaction by calculating the change in the
rate of the reaction as the concentration of the reactants are varied.

Social Classes In America Essay
The United States is often seen by many as a country of equal opportunity. A place where social
classes do not exist. Unfortunately, thoughts such as these are wrong because the US is far
from being the only country to escape this exception. When observed closely there are signs that
each person manifests that distinctively show what social class they belong to. Although
money is the most common marker of class, education along with health related topics such as
heart disease and eating habits are strong inicators of class. Throughout time one of the most
obvious class markers has been education and it still remains so. People who belong to the
higher classes view education as a higher priority and have more access to the best school in the
country. When stuck in lower classes people must attend schools where books, computers, and
education are not found at the same level. An article in the Atantic Times mentions that Kids
who belong to lower social classes fell behind children in the upper classes by about a year or so.
Today, that gap is close to four years. For those in the upper class their kids are placed in an
abundance of classes from an early age such as foreign language, art, and many sports. Children
who are in lower classes have no way of getting a head start when compared to children in higher
classes Sarah Garland also mentions how When children have plenty of time to build social skills
and bigger vocabularies in short term reduce their chances of

The German Coast Uprising
Slavery was a part of life in the 1800s. Many northerners were opposed to the idea, and this led to
the civil war. However, plantation owners had no intention of giving up their slaves in the early
1800s. A slave s life consisted of white owners, work, and whippings. This oppression eventually
led to outbreaks like Nat Turner s rebellion and Gabriel s conspiracy. The German Coast Uprising
was the biggest of these slave revolts. Charles Deslondes, the leader of the uprising, was born in
Haiti in 1780. He was likely part of the mass immigration from Haiti to America in 1809. After
moving to Louisiana, he became a slave driver at the Woodland Plantation owned by Manuel
Andry. He was 31 years old when he led the group of 200 to 500 slaves to battle in the German
Coast Uprising. The riot took place in the area that is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They attacked their owner Manuel Andry, killing him and stealing all his valuables. They then
continued to kill whites, burn plantations, and garner support. Three days into their revolt, the
slaves were attacked by local militias led by General Wade Hampton and Major Homer Virgil
Milton. Witnesses claimed that 66 tool wielding slaves were killed and 75 were captured during
the fight. Of the 75 that were captured, 18 were sentenced to death. A majority of the slaves
involved in the fighting were able to escape. The reason Deslondes started the insurrection is
because he was tired of seeing whites abusing their slaves unnecessarily. There is no doubt that
he was inspired by the Haitian revolution. Some might argue this by stating that he was the one
beating them, because he was their overseer. But did he really enjoy beating those he would have
called brothers, because of their struggles as a race? Charles Deslondes and the slaves who fought
beside him were willing to, and did, die for what they believed in. Sadly, the German Coast
Uprising has been forgotten by many

Examples Of One Good Deed In The Count Of Monte Cristo
Everyone has done a good deed at one point in life. Some people do genuine good deeds, but
others do them for their own personal gains. In The Count of Monte Cristo, Alexandre Dumas

shows how the characters at times do genuine and good deeds, and them doing good deeds for their
own purpose. Dumas provides examples of this when DantСђs does genuine good deeds for the
Morrel family, when Faria alone does a good deed for DantСђs while he was just there with Faria.

How The Pig Farming Industry Affects Our Environment
The hog farming industry has always been one of controversy when it comes to its effects on the
environment, and with the green house gas emissions a pig farm produces and the spread of
disease through swine this is with good reason. Although the truth is that the industry has come a
very long way in the past 50 years in regards to its sustainability. The pigfarming industry as a
whole has been able to reduce its overall environmental impact and natural resources use by 50%
in the past 50 years according to a study done by Garth Boyd a well known researcher on
environmental footprints (Boyd). Even with the improvements made by the pig farming industry
there is still a need for change and major improvement in sustainable practices. First I will discuss
how the pig farming industry effects our environment. Although it is true a pig farmneeds water and
land to operate, the use of those natural resources is not the major problem with pig farms. It is
what goes in the air that is of concern. The pig manure and the decomposition of the manure over
time release three major gases of concern, methane, ammonia, and hydrogen sulfide. There are
other gaseous compounds that may be emitted from decomposing manure but these three are the
principal gases in emissions. The level of emissions released by a farm will vary based on the
amount of manure being managed as well as the type of manure management system the farm has
in place. Flush pit with lagoon, deep pig with below building

What Is Long Term Growth In A City
Designing a layout for a brand new city being developed would have its difficulties but would all be
structured around its geographic location. Developing a city along the coastline would be
extremely different than developing a city in the mountains with reference to reducing traffic within
the central business district. Navigating a mountain range can potentially restrict routing options
when constructing a highway system, whereas being on the coast give you access to plenty of
more public transit options. I believe that long term growth in a cityalong the coastline has the
opportunity to be more prosperous and effective in reducing traffic in the central business district
than a city in any other geographic location. Most major cities have sport teams for baseball,
basketball, football and soccer and a majority of these teams play their games in an arena located
within their given central business district. These teams generate billions of dollars of revenue for
not only their organization, but the businesses that surround them as well. I believe these sport
teams are essential for the long term growth of the cities in the United States. The complexes for
these teams will be located at the north, south, east, and west side of the central business district....

Early Christian art has several features which are adapted from Roman elements. Santa Sabina
employed several Roman columns from Pagan temples. This type of reuse of architectural or

which were inspired by Roman architecture. Santa Sabina is an example of the more numerous
axially planned building, which has a long nave focusing on an apse. Early Christian basilicas, just
like in Santa Sabina, had thin walls supporting wooden roofs with coffered ceilings. Another

What Is The Importance Of Solubility In Salt Potassium...
Solubility is the property of a chemical substance, in any state, to dissolve within an adequate
solvent. Many chemical experiments in the lab will contain a solute in a solvent, therefore
important to know the exact reactions that will ensue. Symmetry and polarity play crucial roles in
the occurrence of solubility. A primary rule of like dissolves like , describes how molecules with
the same symmetry are more likely to be soluble with each other. The same rule can be attributed to
the tendencies of polar versus nonpolar molecules.
A phase transfer reagent allows for the reactant to go from one phase to another. A reaction takes
place, allowing for insoluble ionic reactants to be soluble in organic phase. Purification of a
compound is also common practice and is most times done by recrystallization. This is where the
solute is dissolved in a solvent at ambient temperature so that pure crystals form when cooled. With
the case of an inorganic salt potassium permanganate in an organic solvent, a phase stage reactant is
often used.
The largest form of experimental error for this experiment was that of approximation, affecting
solute solvent ratios and thus the ability for the solute to dissolve. Since very few actual
measurements were taken, it is possible that the solute was too saturated for a reaction to occur
within the amount of solvent added. This may have then affected if the solute needed to have heat
added in order for, in this case the potassium permanganate,

The Quiet American Movie Vs Book
Philip Noyce s version of Graham Greene s novel The Quiet American to film was a large
success. It stayed pretty close to the book, and kept the personalities of the character s the same.
What I respected about the movie was that the director chose to film in actual Vietnamese
locations and without compromise, boldly sticking to the novel by not letting the Americans
come out of the story too kindly. It was filmed greatly and he captured so many details of

He has negative outlook on what seems like everything. I personally had a hard time reading the
book because of the negativity from Fowler. Pyle in the book was the opposite. I was more
interested in Pyle because of his softer nature. What I like about Pyle is how he would stick up
and defend Phuong when Fowler made rude comments. Fowler said that Phuong was merely a
beautiful tool for his sexual pleasures. Pyle responded That s a dirty crack. I won t have her
insulted. You have no right... (TQA, Graham Greene, 1955, pg 78) This shows Pyle s passion and
soft nature. Michael Caine is excellent as Fowler in the movie. He plays an aging unmotivated but
skilled reporter very good. On the other hand Fowler in the film is a lot more vulnerable, especially
as the film goes on, and his weaknesses begins to show. The movie never shows Fowler telling
Pyle how he feels about Phuong. He says that he is detached but then becomes very involved in
what is going on around him. With that action I feel it shows that he does care about Phuong but
doesn t know how to handle it. Thomas Fowler is a complex character, and it is hard to compare
him to his character in the book. The movie doesn t show his personality and depth of character
as the book does. The movie portrays him more likeable with more dignity and less bitter. Fowler

disappointed because I feel they took a huge part of the book and tossed it out by changing

The large male panda s can get up to 250 pounds, and be 2 feet long. The male panda s are indeed
larger than the females. These bears can live up to 20 years in the wild. Even though, there are
environmental conflicts that are reducing their lifespan.
Reasons for the Decline of the Panda Bear
Unfortunately, for the panda bear they are on a endangered list. There are several reasons that it
is difficult for the survival of these bears. The females can ovulate during the Spring time, which
becomes a very small window for growth. They are literally only able to ovulate 2 3 days a year.
That s right. So, this is already a challenge for them. Plus, the female panda can only give birth to 2
and 1 usually dies.
They are approximately 1,600 panda bears that live in the wild all over the world. However, there
are more panda s in China than anywhere else. With this being said, and China s continual growth,
this, causes destruction to the panda s habitat. China uses bamboo for construction and therefore,
removes the main source of food for the panda bear.

Literature Of Old Kingdom Egypt Served
The Instruction literature of Old Kingdom Egypt served as a means to educate and guide its
audience in an artistic manner. These texts were highly regarded by ancient Egyptians, as some of
their greatest writers wrote instruction literature. Most of these texts were also administrative, and
therefore intended to be read by a large audience. The contents of these texts included themes of
personal morality, personal behavior, social norms, strategic behavior, and general advice about life.
As a patriarchal society, the ancient Egyptian authors were not as concerned with instructions for
women, but rather, how men should treat women. Today s American culture has granted women
many more liberties; however, cultural norms still deem the man... Show more content on

Regardless, the texts shed some light on the cultural values of their intended audience. The
introduction of the instructions clarifies why Ptahhotep thought it was necessary to write
instructions for the people, for no one is born wise (Simpson, 131). Following a narration,
Ptahhotep begins by addressing his son. Among the first instructions, silence and moderation are
seen as important aspects of Ma at, or the ancient Egyptian concept of truth, balance, order, and
honor. Ptahhotep then discusses how to deal with nobility as well as the proper treatment of a son,
a wife, relatives, and friends. The instructions conclude with discussion of more political aspects of
ancient Egyptian life, including how to deal with noblemen and how to act as a nobleman, which
Ptahhotep was likely concerned with since he was an official. One statement of note is Ptahhotep s
advice that one should Follow [their] heart as long as [they] live (Simpson, 135). At first glance,
from an American perspective, the statement comes across as quite idealistic and modern:
Ptahhotep seems to advise young people to follow their emotions. However, it is important to note
that ancient Egyptians did not associate emotion with the

(5) Printing The earliest printing in China was the block printing method in the first Century B.C.,
where the individual sheets of paper were pressed against wooden blocks that had text and
illustrations carved into them. This process could print hundreds and even thousands of copies,
this technology played a significant role in promoting the spread of culture. A block carver named
Bi Sheng made movable types with clay during the period from1004 to 1048. This method each
type was carved with one character and the types could be set independently according to contents
of different articles. After printing, the movable types could be reused and this improved
technology is called movable type printing. (LAN, 2008) (6) Row Planting
The Chinese also invented the way to grow crops by placing them in rows sometime in the 6th
century BC. This allowed the crops to grow faster and stronger. This was not instituted in the
western world for another 2200 years. Master Lu wrote in the Spring and Autumn Annals : If the
crops are grown in rows they will mature rapidly because they will not interfere with each other s
growth. The horizontal rows must be well drawn, the vertical rows made with skill, for if the lines
are straight the wind will pass gently through. This text was compiled around 240 BC. (Stevenh,

The Advent Of Industrialized Civilization Essay
The advent of industrialized civilization has brought to us many remarkable feats that enhance our
everyday lives. Such things as automobiles, airplanes, tractors, mainframe computers, and even
relatively simple machines like lawnmowers have intertwined themselves into the everyday culture
of modern day industrialized countries.. These products have provided us enormous benefits
compared to the types of lives our ancestors used to live. In the eyes of some, the consequences of
industrial activities that have evolved around the world will not pose any problems in the future,
however as most have realized, this is not true. Contemporary production processes use fossil fuels
such as oil, which release dangerous amounts of greenhouse gases into our atmosphere. In addition,
certain products such as vehicles are notorious for their inefficient combustion cycles that also
release comparable amounts of certain greenhouse gases into the air. Moreover, emissions from
agricultural practices, land use change and forestry, and other industrial activities have led to
dramatic increases in atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide, methane and other gases since
pre industrial times. (Fig. 1) The world was quick to act upon this realization by negotiating the
Kyoto Protocol in December of 1997, the result of a process that began by a United Nations led
conference in the early 90s. Since then, the debate for ratification among the negotiating countries
has been ongoing, for the simple

Essay On The Tragedy Of Hamlet
Deliberate Killing of Oneself
To be or not to be is not the question. The question is , Who would bear the torments of the world
we live in when he could settle everything himself with a mere dagger? Is a statement made by
Hamlet In Shakespeare s play, The Tragedy Of Hamlet (III.I). The death of the king causes the
royal family to have many problems. The death allowed Claudius, King Hamlet s brother to take
the throne and the Queen s hand only shortly after, causing Hamlet to hate both of them. It also
made Hamlet consider suicide, and undergo moments of self doubt and betrayal from Queen
Gertrude. As well as the death of polonius which cause the fair Ophelia s suspicious death .
Shakespeare brings up the thought of suicide often because the main character is going through a
depressing stage of mourning throughout the play and has also considered ending his life a
number of times throughout the play but struggles because he is stuck in the Elizabethan era
which saw suicide as an unforgivable sin religiously, and as a total wrongdoing morally , but
Hamlet thought aesthetically, Humans do not end their lives because they are afraid of wait will
come , they rather bear the burdens and suffering they experience than to to an unknown world
and never return again.. Hamlet believes that people choose to stay alive in order to live a well life
which he believes is the path to an eternal life of joy.
Suicide is an important theme in Hamlet and is brought up in many situations

The Disaster Planning Or Management
Although there were numerous predictions that a category 4 or 5 could hit New Orleans, very
little disaster planning or management was accomplished before Katrina hit in August 2005
(Lalwani, et al., 2007, p10). After Katrina made landfall August 29th, several sections of the
levee system collapsed including levees protecting the Ninth Ward (Lalwani, et al., 2007, p10).
The manmade MRGO channel caused the problems it was predicted; the channel increased the
power and the size of the waves that destroyed many levees (Heerden, Kemp, Bea, Shaffer, Day,
Morris, Fitzgerald, and Milanes, 2009, p306). By early September, people were forcibly
evacuated and the storm displaced more than 1.5 million people (Lalwani, et al., 2007, p10).
According to Lalwani, et al. (2007, p10), Katrina was the most destructive and costliest natural
disaster in the history of the United States, with an estimated $75 billion worth of damage. Months
after the hurricane, 3,200 people were unaccounted for and many of the low lying areas, most of
which were poor and minority neighborhoods, were still under water. People were stranded in their
homes or at evacuation centers without food or water. Those in charge did not supply those in need
with aid in a timely manner that is expected. According to Ripley, Bennett, Thomas, Calabresi,

Uk Pre Goal Setting Regime
UK Pre Goal Setting Regime
Regulating health and safety offshore has been a challenge due to its intricate and hostile
environment. In the 1960 s the UK first adopted a self regulatory approach by the industry that was:
not subject to any detailed regulatory stipulations or inspections . The Government made it a basic
obligation in the licence that licensees must comply with such instruction from the Minister . The
minister however had not thought about what these may be. Conveniently the Code of Practice
(CoP) produced by the Institute of Petroleum was created around the same time so the Minister
used this. This caused a lot of issues and clearly highlights the UK s lack of experience and
expertise . The CoP was produced purely as guidance, by a private sector body, and was never
intended to be thrust into the limelight and become law in effect.
Following the Sea Gem disaster in 1965, the inquiry set up subsequent to this, realised these
problems and discovered that it occurred as a result of the CoP being strictly adhered to, even
where it clearly did not fit, as it was not a clear or precise document. The inquiry instead
recommended a code of [statutory] authority supported by credible sanctions. The Inquiry
concluded that there needed to be more government involvement and asked for specific guidelines .
This marked the end of self regulation being an acceptable model.
In 1967 the government woke up and realised how complacent they had been and so the

The Rise And Fall Of The Oslo Accords Essay
Article Review: The Rise and Fall of the Oslo Accords
According to an apocryphal story, Pope John Paul once said that he believes there are two possible
solutions to the Arab Israeli conflict, the realistic and the miraculous. The realistic being divine
intervention, and the miraculous being a voluntary agreement by both parties. On September 13th,
1993, it looked like the miraculous had happened when the Oslo Accords were signed by Prime
Minister Rabin and PLO Chairman Arafat on the White House South Lawn. However, the
objectives of the accords were never fully implemented and the Palestinians remain stateless.
Further steps toward peace, including Oslo II and Camp David, have fallen short of the goals of
both sides. In the book International Relations of the Middle East the chapter titled The Rise and
Fall of the Oslo Peace Process details the slow process of the formation of the Oslo accords, as
well as attempts at implementation and the fall of the Declaration of Principles. The author
outlines the events between 1990 and 2001 and makes the argument that Oslo failed because: (1)
it had a bad foundation, (2) the accords did not account for the core issues of the conflict, (3) Israel
did not complete of their side of the agreement, (4) Palestinian violence, (5) Israeli West Bank
settlements, and (6) the failure to create a Palestinian state. According to the chapter, getting to the

deal with huge chunks of input data sets and parallelizing the application is one of the best ways
to save the computation time. Graphics processing units (GPU) is one of the many hardware
used for parallelizing such applications. Developed initially for different types of graphics
applications, GPU has now found its way in various general application processing as well. The
existing GPU implementation of the algorithms like UV_kmeans have showcased a speedup of
forty to sixty in comparison with other dual core or multi core implementations. The programming
model used in this paper is CUDA (Compute Unified Device Architecture). The basic organization
of the architecture is shown in fig 1. To state briefly, modern day GPUs contain about hundreds of
processor cores each working on the exact same instruction but

Abstract
Sigmund Freud created psychoanalysis, a system through which an expert unloads oblivious

is a strategy for exploring and treating identity issue and is utilized as a part of psychotherapy.
Included in this hypothesis is the way to go that things that happen to individuals amid adolescence
can add to the way they later capacity as grown ups (Gay, 1998). Freud s psychodynamic
methodology has prompted numerous insightful contemporaries and their theories that show an
evolution of Freud s psychoanalysis. This paper will show you some of the contemporaries and
their theories that were influenced by Freud. Some of these theories extend Freud s theory, and
some sort of disagree with his thinking. However, it is obvious that Freud made a mark on these
psychologists, and proved to be a big influence in the field of psychology.

Korean Attributions
In Hee Sun Park s article Social Identity, Attribution, and Emotion: Comparisons of Americans,
Korean Americans, and Koreans, he examines the feelings surrounding the Virginia Tech shooting,
and his findings suggest that attributions are emotionally charged and rooted in self preservation
more so than accuracy.
In April 2007, the deadliest school shooting in American history occurred when Cho Seung Hui
opened fire on the campus of Virginia Tech. Having spent the majority of his life living in the
United States but being born in Korea, there were a few different nationalities that Seung Hui could
be associated with, and Park et al. decided to investigate the attributions and emotions affiliated with
this event, focusing on four distinct groups: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At no point does Park s article mention whether Seung Hui considered himself to be Korean,
Korean American, or American, likely because this detail would not affect the way that other
members of these groups choose to describe him. If, for instance, Seung Hui thought of himself
as an American, is it fair or accurate for someone else to decide that he s Korean? No, it isn t, but
that s what happens, because we don t like to think of horrible acts of violence like this being
carried out by our people, and so we change the identity of those responsible so that they are not as

Research Paper On Desert Storm
Desert Storm
This will not stand, this aggression against Kuwait. President George H.W Bush, Aug 6,1990.
Desert Storm was the largest build up of U.S forces since the Vietnam War. Within a short period
members of the 82nd Airborne Division as well as 300 combat aircraft were deployed to the
Middle East. Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait with 120,000 military personnel 2,000 of which
were tanks. Iraq s Air Force at the time was the largest but it was week. They choose quantity
over quality also, their Navy was virtually nonexistent. Iraq rolled over Kuwait in two days
because Iraq owed $80 million in foreign debt from its war with Iran. Saddam Hussein
demanded Saudi Arabia and Kuwait forgive $30 million in Iraq s debt. He accused Kuwait of
stealing Iraqi oil through slant drilling. At the time Iraq had the fifth largest army in the world.
They boasted more than a million men in uniform in 1991 but only a third of those were skilled
professional fighting forces. Iraq rule over Kuwait was very brutal and harsh. America decided
that it could not stand by had watch. By the end of September 1990 there were nearly 200,000
American personnel in Saudi Arabia enough to repel any Iraqi attack. The Gulf Warcoasted an
estimation of 63 billion but, for the U.S this was a relatively cheap war. Over 18,000 fighter jets
were deployed to combat the Iraqi Air Force. This was the most massive and effective air
campaign ever with the U.S only losing 63 combat aircraft. Over a short period of time the Iraqi
death toll was over 9,000 the U.S on the other hand only had 1 M.I.A soldier and 383 fatalities in
the region more Americans died back home from H.I.V (29,850). The U.S captured over 70,000
enemy troops in the eight months that the war took place. This war brought many new
technologies, the Army and Air Force were supplied with most of the new tech. The Marines on
the other hand were issued with Vietnam dated gear and outdated version of newer tanks, aircraft,
and guns. The U.S military at the time of desert storm used M16A1 M16A2 Car 15 XM4 Carbine

Chapter I
The Problem and Its Background A. Introduction
Poultry raising is one of the businesses that can be found here in the Philippines. It s very simple
and helpful, as chickens provide foods like chicken meat and eggs. It could also help in the
agriculture area. Some people use growth enhancer so that the chickens may grow fast. But now,
we re going to have a study to find a natural and better substitute, like Aloe Vera(Aloe barbadensis)
as a chick growth enhancer. B. Background of the Study
There is an increase of demand of chicken today. Most of the restaurants in our country are using
chicken for their specialty. As we all know chicken is one of the most common foods that we eat,
and that is our reason of pursuing this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The content of the Aloe Vera leaf is just 0.5 1.5% solid, with an average pH value of 4.55. This
solid material contains over 75 different nutrients including vitamins and minerals. Aloe Vera is rich
in vitamins and minerals. Specific vitamins include: Vitamin A (Beta Carotene), Vitamin B1
(Thiamine), Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin), Vitamin B3 (Niacin), Vitamin B5, Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine),
Vitamin B12, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Choline, and Folic Acid. The vitamins A, C, and E are
responsible for the aloe s antioxidant activity while vitamin B and choline are involved in amino
acid metabolism and vitamin B12 is required for the production and development of blood cells.
Among the important minerals found in Aloe Vera are: calcium, chromium, copper, iron,
magnesium, manganese, potassium, phosphorous, sodium, and zinc. These minerals are essential
for good health and are known to work in synergistic combinations with each other, with vitamins
and other trace elements.
Aside from vitamins and minerals, Aloe Vera is rich with enzymes (help the breakdown of food
sugars and fats), hormones (aid in healing and anti inflammatory activities), sugars (i.e. glucose and
fructose that provide anti inflammatory activity), anthraquinones or phenolic compounds (aid
absorption from gastro intestinal tract and have antimicrobial and pain killing effects), lignin
(increases the blood circulation),

The Optimal Strategy For Player One
a)The optimal strategy for player one to pursue would be to defect under any circumstance. If
player one were to cooperate, that minimum and maximum return would be one and three
respectively. Whereas if player one were to defect the minimum points he or she would earn is
two, and the maximum could potentially be four. b)Like player one, player two would benefit
most if he or she chose the strategy of defection. Similar to the situation in question a, the
maximum and minimum reward of defection outweighs the benefits of cooperation. If player
two, like player one, were to choose cooperation, and element of trust must be present if the goal
was to yield the maximum three points. It is human nature to be cautious and therefore, without
any communication or social bond, there is no reason to trust the other player. Ultimately, a
strategy of defection is the most practical and rewarding approach to pursue. c)If the player one
had no doubt that player two would chose to cooperate, the game becomes more difficult. Now
that the shadow of doubt has been removed from player one s reasoning, the approach behind
player one s strategy is primarily fueled by motives. If player one s motive is to secure the
maximum points that he or she should choose to defect, if however, player one s motives hinge
on a belief in ethics or morality than he or she would most likely cooperate. Seeing as the purpose
of the game is to maximize his or her payout, the most prudent strategy for player

Parable Of The Good Samaritan
When given the option between the Good Samaritan or the Prodigal Son, I chose the Good
Samaritan. I believe this parable represents a common misconception of our walk with Christ. This
parable deals with individuals who are excepted to show compassion that does not and individuals
who are least likely to show compassion that actually does. In this passage Jesusteaches the lawyer
that everyone is his neighbor; thus meaning he should love everyone, regardless of their situation or
social standard.
1. The Setting...why did Jesus tell this parable?
Jesus introduced this parable to a Pharisee that was a law expert (lawyer or Scribe). The Pharisee
asks Jesus what he must do to earn eternal life. Jesus then allowed the Pharisee to answer his own
question by asking what the law said. The Pharisee correctly explained himself by saying love
the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with
all your mind. ; and, Love your neighbor as yourself. The lawyer then proceeds to ask who his
neighbors were. Jesus replied with The Parable of the Good Samaritan, which teaches God s law of
love and how to effectively express it.
2. The Characters
Character #1 Jesus was referred to specifically in this parable as a Teacher by the Pharisee. He is
also considered to be the storyteller in this specific piece. Globally known as the Son of God.
Character #2 The Pharisee was an expert in the law which allowed him to answer his own question

  • 2. The Battle Of The Little Bighorn River Little Bighorn Battle Analysis The Battle of the Little Bighorn River, which took stage on the 25th and 26th of June 1876, was known to the Lakota as the Battle of the Greasy Grass. This Battle was also one of the last important stands of the American Indians against the United States of America. The Battle took place in the Montana Territory between the combined Indian tribes of the Lakota, Northern Cheyenne, and Arapaho tribes. These Indian tribes led by Sitting Bull, Crazy Horse and other Indian leaders battled the Seventh Cavalry Regiment of the United States Army. The Indian forces were victorious during this battle where they faced their much smaller in number opponent led by General George Armstrong Custer. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the events that led to the conflict, the environment of the battle ground, the disposition and composition of each side, actions, inactions taken as well as the their significance. The Indians, threatened by the expansion of the white settlements west of the Mississippi River, this endangered their way of life that revolved around the Buffalo and eventually led to their confinement to reservations. The United States Government claimed a large portion of their lands for other uses but did grant the plain Indians with an area exclusive to them known as the Great Sioux Reservation, established by the treaty of 1868. It also allowed them hunting ground and grazing land for the Buffalo outside the reservation. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The City And Parts Of The Soul Another premise is how justice is a craft with a particular function. All conventional items that human beings use have a purpose otherwise its useless. Even the most ridiculous products sold on infomercials are designed for a specific purpose. Although products being sold on infomercials are ridiculous for being invented with a purpose in mind, but do not function well and generally make the user of the product look foolish. Like conventional items justicehas a function. However it is important that a thing s function is the work that it alone can do, or can do better than anyone else (I. 353a). Basically, Platois assuming that we, human beings are dependent on each other and working together will create a more sustainable society for all. It makes sense for every individual to specialize in a task and can trade goods or services with one another. Plato further applies this concept to his analogy of the city and parts of the soul. In the creation of a city, and for the soul to be justice it has a particular hierarchical formation. For building the ideal city, Socrates divides people into three types of classes: the ruling class, the auxiliary or warrior class and the producer class of merchants and artisans. Each class corresponds with a virtue and depending on a person s virtue is where a person will end up. The virtues are wisdom for the ruling, courage for the warriors and moderation for the working class. In addition, that we need to hone in what skills or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Transition To Total War Total war breaks down the line separating combatants and non combatants through a series of ideological and social justifications that allowed for barbaric acts to be committed. A war becomes total when the nation itself must dedicate every facet of its existence as a state to the war effort. The general population being brought into the wareffort brings to question their innocence, thus making them targets for the enemy. The transition from a small scale war into a total war is a gradual process, as adjusting a nation s economy and society to feed the war is a long and difficult process. The transition to total war depends mainly on the length of the war and the number of casualties. A short war would not require the kind of resources and civilian support that an expansive war would require. The Great War is often cited as being the first total war, and that is clear through the population s view of the war as well as the soldier s. A total war can only happen if nationalism and patriotism are high and on nearly all fronts nationalism is what rooted the soldiers in the trenches and gave them the determination. Nationalism also gave the non combatants on the home front a reason to support the war in other ways. • 5. Analysis Of Dante Alihieri s Purgatorio By Dante Is... In Dante Alihieri s Purgatorio, Dante is climbing up the Mount of Purgatory. Dante encounters many trials that he must face with the help of Virgil (human reason). The closer Dante gets the to the top of Purgatory the more and more Virgil fades away and when he finally does disappear Beatrice is there to be Dante s guide.. Throughout Purgatorio, Alihieri uses Beatrice not only as a symbol to portray the medieval church but also a light. This is why Dante is blinded by the sight of Beatrice when she drops the veil. Most commentators agree with idea of Beatrice being a symbol of both the church and light while Bernard Stambler agrees with this but he expands upon that symbol. While most commentators believe that Beatrice is an accurate example of the Church, others tend to believe that the chariot that Alihieri talks about in Canto 32 is a more accurate representation of the church. John Carroll was one of the ones to believe this. In Stambler s book, Dante s Other World; the Purgatorio as Guide to the Divine Comedy, he talks about how Beatrice is more than just one symbol in Canto 32 and 33 in Purgatorio. He says that first, the essential function of the Church throughout the purgatorial process and through the further preparation of the soul for its entrance to heaven; second, the material decay into which the Church as an institution had fallen through her usurpation of temporal functions (Stambler 271). He is saying that Beatrice is a symbol for Church but he expands ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) Essay If you owe your bank a hundred pounds, you have a problem; but if you owe it a million, it has.(1) In the year of 1327, Kind Edward III of England defaulted on his Italian debts. This caused the banks of Bardi and Peruzzi in Florence to collapse. Who would know that over 650 years later, the world would still have these types of problems? After World War II, the need for an organization like the IMF was finally realized. After the war, politicians and economists began to work on blue prints for a postwar world. They envisioned a liberal international economic order, based on stable world currencies and revived world trade. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) finally came into existence on December 27, 1945. On this date, twenty nine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... International banks have made risky loans all over the world because they knew that if trouble arose, the fund would step in to resolve the situation as it has done in the past. The IMF has played a critical role in many of the epochal events in the 1990 s. The IMF lent 18 billion dollars to Mexico in 1994, after the peso collapsed. It gave Russia over 10 billion dollars in 1999. The IMF has helped drive inflation from 1,000 percent a year down to a tolerable 10 percent a year, thanks to Russia listening to what the IMF said and doing as they suggested. It has given Indonesia 10 billion dollars, and has helped Indonesia demonopolize industries. It gave 4 billion to Thailand, which was the epicenter of the East Asian Crisis. The IMF helped closed dozens of reckless banks. True, the IMF did many little things wrong, however, it did the important ones right. The Philippines is a prime example on how effectively the IMF can work. For years, Filipinos suffered the weaknesses of economic and business policies. Under the tutelage of the International Monetary Fund for nearly 30 years, and especially during the past decade, they faced up to their problems. Many sectors of their society suffered greatly, and some complained loudly. However, they persisted and, with the help of the IMF and the courage of the Philippine people, they exited from the IMF program. How did they do this? They assembled one of the best economic ... Four potential suspects DNA were obtained as well as the DNA from the crime scene . In order to develop some form of conclusion into the suspect two techniques are required to be used which included a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and Agrose Gel Electrophoresis. Having this allowed a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) to take place which then permitted the investigation to establish a suspect to be matched. The three more relevant theories that correlate to the Good Life are Daoism, Stoicism, and Existentialism. The goal is to at least shine a light to what everyone seems drawn towards. Existentialismis an important theory to consider in order to achieve the Good Life. • 10. The Effect Of Fast Reactants On The Rate Of A Chemical... Introduction: The measure of how fast reactants are converted into products is the rate of a chemical reaction. Some reactions occur more quickly than others, but the reaction rate can be made faster or slower depending on certain factors. Concentration, surface area, temperature, and the presence of a catalyst are all factors that can affect the rate of a reaction. A reaction is considered complete when the entirety of at least one of the reactants has been converted into products. If the end of a reaction is indicated by a color change or the formation of a precipitate, then the reaction rate can be found by measuring the time from when the reactants were mixed to when the color change occurred or the precipitate was formed. A rate law ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The overall order of a reaction is calculated by finding the sum of the individual orders of the reactants. During the lab, while the concentration of one reactant varied, the concentration of the other reactant was held constant. The experiment was completed in this particular manner because the concentration of one reactant had to remain the same in order to discover how varying the concentration of the other reactant affected the reaction rate. Learning how to control the rate of a chemical reaction is a big advantage. For example, knowing that the rusting of iron can be slowed by painting the metal or covering it with certain substances is beneficial. The purpose of this experiment was to determine the rate law of a chemical reaction by calculating the change in the rate of the reaction as the concentration of the reactants are varied. Unfortunately, thoughts such as these are wrong because the US is far from being the only country to escape this exception. When observed closely there are signs that each person manifests that distinctively show what social class they belong to. Although money is the most common marker of class, education along with health related topics such as heart disease and eating habits are strong inicators of class. Throughout time one of the most obvious class markers has been education and it still remains so. People who belong to the higher classes view education as a higher priority and have more access to the best school in the country. When stuck in lower classes people must attend schools where books, computers, and education are not found at the same level. An article in the Atantic Times mentions that Kids who belong to lower social classes fell behind children in the upper classes by about a year or so. Today, that gap is close to four years. For those in the upper class their kids are placed in an abundance of classes from an early age such as foreign language, art, and many sports. • 14. The German Coast Uprising Slavery was a part of life in the 1800s. Many northerners were opposed to the idea, and this led to the civil war. However, plantation owners had no intention of giving up their slaves in the early 1800s. A slave s life consisted of white owners, work, and whippings. This oppression eventually led to outbreaks like Nat Turner s rebellion and Gabriel s conspiracy. The German Coast Uprising was the biggest of these slave revolts. Charles Deslondes, the leader of the uprising, was born in Haiti in 1780. He was likely part of the mass immigration from Haiti to America in 1809. After moving to Louisiana, he became a slave driver at the Woodland Plantation owned by Manuel Andry. Witnesses claimed that 66 tool wielding slaves were killed and 75 were captured during the fight. Of the 75 that were captured, 18 were sentenced to death. A majority of the slaves involved in the fighting were able to escape. The reason Deslondes started the insurrection is because he was tired of seeing whites abusing their slaves unnecessarily. There is no doubt that he was inspired by the Haitian revolution. Some might argue this by stating that he was the one beating them, because he was their overseer. But did he really enjoy beating those he would have called brothers, because of their struggles as a race? How The Pig Farming Industry Affects Our Environment The hog farming industry has always been one of controversy when it comes to its effects on the environment, and with the green house gas emissions a pig farm produces and the spread of disease through swine this is with good reason. Although the truth is that the industry has come a very long way in the past 50 years in regards to its sustainability. The pigfarming industry as a whole has been able to reduce its overall environmental impact and natural resources use by 50% in the past 50 years according to a study done by Garth Boyd a well known researcher on environmental footprints (Boyd). Even with the improvements made by the pig farming industry there is still a need for change and major improvement in sustainable practices. First I will discuss how the pig farming industry effects our environment. Although it is true a pig farmneeds water and land to operate, the use of those natural resources is not the major problem with pig farms. It is what goes in the air that is of concern. The pig manure and the decomposition of the manure over time release three major gases of concern, methane, ammonia, and hydrogen sulfide. There are other gaseous compounds that may be emitted from decomposing manure but these three are the principal gases in emissions. Developing a city along the coastline would be extremely different than developing a city in the mountains with reference to reducing traffic within the central business district. Navigating a mountain range can potentially restrict routing options when constructing a highway system, whereas being on the coast give you access to plenty of more public transit options. I believe that long term growth in a cityalong the coastline has the opportunity to be more prosperous and effective in reducing traffic in the central business district than a city in any other geographic location. Most major cities have sport teams for baseball, basketball, football and soccer and a majority of these teams play their games in an arena located within their given central business district. These teams generate billions of dollars of revenue for not only their organization, but the businesses that surround them as well. • 20. What Is The Importance Of Solubility In Salt Potassium... Solubility is the property of a chemical substance, in any state, to dissolve within an adequate solvent. Many chemical experiments in the lab will contain a solute in a solvent, therefore important to know the exact reactions that will ensue. Symmetry and polarity play crucial roles in the occurrence of solubility. A primary rule of like dissolves like , describes how molecules with the same symmetry are more likely to be soluble with each other. The same rule can be attributed to the tendencies of polar versus nonpolar molecules. A phase transfer reagent allows for the reactant to go from one phase to another. A reaction takes place, allowing for insoluble ionic reactants to be soluble in organic phase. Purification of a compound is also common practice and is most times done by recrystallization. This is where the solute is dissolved in a solvent at ambient temperature so that pure crystals form when cooled. With the case of an inorganic salt potassium permanganate in an organic solvent, a phase stage reactant is often used. The largest form of experimental error for this experiment was that of approximation, affecting solute solvent ratios and thus the ability for the solute to dissolve. • 21. The Quiet American Movie Vs Book Philip Noyce s version of Graham Greene s novel The Quiet American to film was a large success. It stayed pretty close to the book, and kept the personalities of the character s the same. What I respected about the movie was that the director chose to film in actual Vietnamese locations and without compromise, boldly sticking to the novel by not letting the Americans come out of the story too kindly. It was filmed greatly and he captured so many details of Vietnam. Brenden Fraiser and Michael Caine did an amazing job portraying their characters. The first difference that you can see is that the book was in first person and the movie was in third. This being said, there were scenes added into the movie that was not in the book. I personally had a hard time reading the book because of the negativity from Fowler. Pyle in the book was the opposite. I was more interested in Pyle because of his softer nature. What I like about Pyle is how he would stick up and defend Phuong when Fowler made rude comments. Fowler said that Phuong was merely a beautiful tool for his sexual pleasures. Pyle responded That s a dirty crack. I won t have her insulted. You have no right... (TQA, Graham Greene, 1955, pg 78) This shows Pyle s passion and soft nature. Michael Caine is excellent as Fowler in the movie. He plays an aging unmotivated but skilled reporter very good. On the other hand Fowler in the film is a lot more vulnerable, especially as the film goes on, and his weaknesses begins to show. The movie never shows Fowler telling Pyle how he feels about Phuong. He says that he is detached but then becomes very involved in what is going on around him. With that action I feel it shows that he does care about Phuong but doesn t know how to handle it. Thomas Fowler is a complex character, and it is hard to compare him to his character in the book. The movie doesn t show his personality and depth of character as the book does. The movie portrays him more likeable with more dignity and less bitter. Fowler s character does still give us that deep sense of how the political he is. The introduction of the instructions clarifies why Ptahhotep thought it was necessary to write instructions for the people, for no one is born wise (Simpson, 131). Following a narration, Ptahhotep begins by addressing his son. Among the first instructions, silence and moderation are seen as important aspects of Ma at, or the ancient Egyptian concept of truth, balance, order, and honor. Ptahhotep then discusses how to deal with nobility as well as the proper treatment of a son, a wife, relatives, and friends. The instructions conclude with discussion of more political aspects of ancient Egyptian life, including how to deal with noblemen and how to act as a nobleman, which Ptahhotep was likely concerned with since he was an official. One statement of note is Ptahhotep s advice that one should Follow [their] heart as long as [they] live (Simpson, 135). Such things as automobiles, airplanes, tractors, mainframe computers, and even relatively simple machines like lawnmowers have intertwined themselves into the everyday culture of modern day industrialized countries.. These products have provided us enormous benefits compared to the types of lives our ancestors used to live. In the eyes of some, the consequences of industrial activities that have evolved around the world will not pose any problems in the future, however as most have realized, this is not true. Contemporary production processes use fossil fuels such as oil, which release dangerous amounts of greenhouse gases into our atmosphere. In addition, certain products such as vehicles are notorious for their inefficient combustion cycles that also release comparable amounts of certain greenhouse gases into the air. Moreover, emissions from agricultural practices, land use change and forestry, and other industrial activities have led to dramatic increases in atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide, methane and other gases since pre industrial times. (Fig. 1) The world was quick to act upon this realization by negotiating the Kyoto Protocol in December of 1997, the result of a process that began by a United Nations led conference in the early 90s. The question is , Who would bear the torments of the world we live in when he could settle everything himself with a mere dagger? It also made Hamlet consider suicide, and undergo moments of self doubt and betrayal from Queen Gertrude. As well as the death of polonius which cause the fair Ophelia s suspicious death . Shakespeare brings up the thought of suicide often because the main character is going through a depressing stage of mourning throughout the play and has also considered ending his life a number of times throughout the play but struggles because he is stuck in the Elizabethan era which saw suicide as an unforgivable sin religiously, and as a total wrongdoing morally , but Hamlet thought aesthetically, Humans do not end their lives because they are afraid of wait will come , they rather bear the burdens and suffering they experience than to to an unknown world and never return again.. The Government made it a basic obligation in the licence that licensees must comply with such instruction from the Minister . The minister however had not thought about what these may be. Conveniently the Code of Practice (CoP) produced by the Institute of Petroleum was created around the same time so the Minister used this. This caused a lot of issues and clearly highlights the UK s lack of experience and expertise . The CoP was produced purely as guidance, by a private sector body, and was never intended to be thrust into the limelight and become law in effect. Following the Sea Gem disaster in 1965, the inquiry set up subsequent to this, realised these problems and discovered that it occurred as a result of the CoP being strictly adhered to, even where it clearly did not fit, as it was not a clear or precise document. The inquiry instead recommended a code of [statutory] authority supported by credible sanctions. The Rise And Fall Of The Oslo Accords Essay Article Review: The Rise and Fall of the Oslo Accords According to an apocryphal story, Pope John Paul once said that he believes there are two possible solutions to the Arab Israeli conflict, the realistic and the miraculous. The realistic being divine intervention, and the miraculous being a voluntary agreement by both parties. On September 13th, 1993, it looked like the miraculous had happened when the Oslo Accords were signed by Prime Minister Rabin and PLO Chairman Arafat on the White House South Lawn. • 45. The Optimal Strategy For Player One a)The optimal strategy for player one to pursue would be to defect under any circumstance. If player one were to cooperate, that minimum and maximum return would be one and three respectively. Whereas if player one were to defect the minimum points he or she would earn is two, and the maximum could potentially be four. b)Like player one, player two would benefit most if he or she chose the strategy of defection. Similar to the situation in question a, the maximum and minimum reward of defection outweighs the benefits of cooperation. If player two, like player one, were to choose cooperation, and element of trust must be present if the goal was to yield the maximum three points. It is human nature to be cautious and therefore, without any communication or social bond, there is no reason to trust the other player. Ultimately, a strategy of defection is the most practical and rewarding approach to pursue. c)If the player one had no doubt that player two would chose to cooperate, the game becomes more difficult. Now that the shadow of doubt has been removed from player one s reasoning, the approach behind player one s strategy is primarily fueled by motives. If player one s motive is to secure the maximum points that he or she should choose to defect, if however, player one s motives hinge on a belief in ethics or morality than he or she would most likely cooperate. • 47. Parable Of The Good Samaritan When given the option between the Good Samaritan or the Prodigal Son, I chose the Good Samaritan. I believe this parable represents a common misconception of our walk with Christ. This parable deals with individuals who are excepted to show compassion that does not and individuals who are least likely to show compassion that actually does. In this passage Jesusteaches the lawyer that everyone is his neighbor; thus meaning he should love everyone, regardless of their situation or social standard. 1. The Setting...why did Jesus tell this parable? Jesus introduced this parable to a Pharisee that was a law expert (lawyer or Scribe). The Pharisee asks Jesus what he must do to earn eternal life. Jesus then allowed the Pharisee to answer his own question by asking what the law said. The Pharisee correctly explained himself by saying love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind. ; and, Love your neighbor as yourself. The lawyer then proceeds to ask who his neighbors were. Jesus replied with The Parable of the Good Samaritan, which teaches God s law of love and how to effectively express it. 2. The Characters Character #1 Jesus was referred to specifically in this parable as a Teacher by the Pharisee. He is also considered to be the storyteller in this specific piece. Globally known as the Son of God. Character #2 The Pharisee was an expert in the law which allowed him to answer his own question to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
