Essay on GMO Labeling
GMO labeling
Ever since their entrance onto the consumer market in the last two decades of the twentieth century,
genetically modified organisms (often referred to as GMOs) have been getting mixed reviews from the
public. Genetically modified consumer products (primarily food) have pushed the barriers of some
people s comfort levels. Born out of either a lack of knowledge or a sincere concern for public health
or the environment, a consumer rights movement has been planted around the world pushing for
labeling of genetically modified food products. This movement has matured in many places to a
degree where interest groups have successfully lobbied governments into adopting criteria for labeling
transgenic food ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A generally accepted definition of a GMO is an organism whose genetic makeup has been altered in a
way other than by means of natural mating or natural recombination (Le Meur 1). Under this blanket
definition, age old methods of horticulture and animal husbandry are also ways of genetic
modification or engineering. However, common usage of the term implies the use of recombinant
DNA technology.
An example of an organism that has been produced in recent years that fits the modern definition of
genetic modification is Bt corn. This breed of corn derives it name from the bacteria Bacillus
thuringiensis, which has a gene that produces a protein that resists a common soil larva that is known
to attack corn roots. Once inserted into the corn genome, it expresses the same trait as the bacteria
(European Commision 1). This has ultimately saved millions of dollars and reduced growers¦Ð
reliance on pesticides.
Because of the success of transgenic crops like Bt corn, the usage and availability of GMOs has
increased exponentially. The number of GM crops produced in the United States grew from 1.45
hectares in 1996 to over 29 million in 2000. This accounts for about 70% of the total GM crops grown
in the world (European Commission 2). Similar patterns have emerged from other agriculture
intensive countries like Canada, Argentina, China, and Brazil. Large percentages of products like
soybeans (68%), cotton (50%) and corn (28%) are now

John Stuart Mill s Utilitarianism
The perceived end goal for most human experiences is happiness. However, the objective assessment
of happiness creates challenges. Happiness is individual and personal, but the actions that people take
to achieve happiness effect everyone in society. In this essay, I will investigate the standards for
happiness utilizing John Stuart Mill s Utilitarianism. Happiness is available to all people at different
levels, with clear objective standards at its most basic levels but with only subjective standards at its
higher levels. Although, people are able to obtain different levels of happiness based upon their
faculties according to Mill, all are able to contribute to the greater good through their actions. Mill
makes it clear early in his work that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mill explains the higher and lower pleasures, comparing human happiness to that of pigs. He states,
Human beings have higher faculties than the animal appetites, and once they become conscious of
them they don t regard anything as happiness that doesn t include their gratification (Mill, 5). This
comparison is important, as it serves as a concrete example of more desirable pleasures. Humans
mental pleasures are also dependent on their respective faculties. The higher the person s faculties, the
higher more required for the person to be happy. This individual quality of happiness is therefore
subjective as the two people can achieve the same understood level of happiness with significantly
different mental cultivations. A person who cultivates their mind daily and understands more about
philosophy is happier, but a person with lower faculties is unable to understand this level of happiness.
These human pleasures of the mind are much more superior to animalistic pleasures. Mill argues that
once people are made aware of their possession of higher faculties, they will not be happy when these

Charles Dickens Hard Times Essay
Charles Dickens Hard Times
There are a huge variety of characters in Hard Times, ranging from the good to the unnaturally cruel.
The novel is full of extremity in its characterisation; cruel, bitter and selfish characters such as Mrs.
Sparsit contrast dramatically with characters such as Stephen
Blackpool and Rachael, who are benevolent and altruistic. Among the cruellest and most villainous
characters in the novel is James
Harthouse, who is completely ammoral, and therefore rendered very dangerous by Dickens. Josiah
Bounderby, is another particularly cruel character. He is utterly self centred and prejudiced against the
working class of the novel (he categorizes them all as being greedy and materialistic:

What more he was, or what else he had in him, if anything, let him show for himself .
Stephen, though kind and giving, does not seem happy in his life. He, like Harthouse, seems to have
little motivation. However, in contrast to Harthouse, who has no morals and thus no motivation,
Stephen has been continuously ground down by life; physically and mentally worn by the constraints
of a working class existence. He seems to have subconsciously given up even trying to pursue his
right for a better life, accepting his situation with a kind of quiet submission. In a way, Stephen s
kindness is partly to blame for his unhappiness. It could be argued that he hasn t fought hard enough
for the things he wants; for example, he is not actually a member of the worker s union.
Stephen has a tendency to seem meek and quite passive. He seems gentle but is often depicted with
too much sentimentality. It is almost frustrating the way that Stephen simply accepts that he cannot be
with
Rachael, and must remain in a loveless marriage, when it is clear that he is unhappy (though of course,
moral conventions differed in
Victorian times, meaning people had a different view of marriage

Islamophobia Hate Crime
After the trump started his presidency, hate crime seemed to have increased massively. According to
political scientists, Islamophobia is increasing the threat of terrorism. Some Americas have this fear
that Muslims are going to Islamize America which is Islam is somehow trying to take over America or
the world. But the possibility for a takeover is low as Muslim Americans are barely 1% of the total
population in America. Islamophobia isn t just wrong in the sense that it s unethical for Americans but
also, wrong in the sense that it s fundamentally inaccurate. Islamophobia is making the threat greater it
is undermining our national security goals and thus, is dangerous. Islamophobia leads to hate crime
against the Muslims in America. And, according to the FBI, hate crime data shows a clear sharp
increase in hate crimes targeting Muslims beginning, in particular, around 2010 and maintaining a
sustained heightened level. Trump, through media, is handing propaganda directly to the extremists.
His hate speeches and his recent Muslim ban is giving the extremists exactly what they want evidence
that the West hates all Muslims. The extremists, who are barely 1% or less of the Muslim population
in the world, are trying to recruit from the other 99% of Muslims and asking them to join their war
against the West. As human beings, we all are likely to judge before knowing the full story of a topic.

Statement of Purpose for Linfield College s Athletic...
I would like to become a certified athletic trainer through the Linfield program because of my love for
sports and medicine. I was involved in a number of sports throughout my life and have gone through a
number of injuries. There is one injury in particular that sparked my interest in athletic training. I was
playing soccer at Chemeketa Community College when I broke my foot. I spent many hours with the
athletic trainer there Julie Speck (PT/ATC/R), who gave me the opportunity to work with her in the
training room. She also sparked another interest and that is to get my dual credentials in athletic
training and physical therapy. I see myself using both degrees in the future like my mentor Julie Spark
(PT/ATC/R). She works in a hospital as a physical therapist and is contracted out to Chemeketa
Community College as an athletic trainer. This is exactly what I plan to do with both my degrees. As
an athletic trainer there are many qualities you must possess. One, unique qualities that I have is being
naturally competitive. My competitive nature makes me want to be the best at everything I m doing. It
motivates me to try my hardest to accomplish my goals. Handle stress is also an important quality that
I possess. The training center can seem a stressful at times with so many people coming in and out. I
can not only handle this stress but thrive in this kind of environment. I m a very sports oriented person

Factors Of Relationship Compatibility
I was writing about relationships, dating, and stuff like that for a while and what I found most of the
time was nothing but questions regarding relationship mistakes. I have seen most of the people asking
about what are the mistakes that we should avoid while in a relationship, how the beginning of a
relationship should be, and is there any relationship compatibility type of thing or not? Keeping most
of the queries and questions in mind, I have collected some of the best factors to look upon when there
is a beginning of a relationship happening, relationship compatibility between two persons, and the
relationship mistakes that most of us do which ruin our relationships at an instant.

are some of the main factors that everybody should know before proceeding and stepping into the

Find out whether you feel comfortable around your partner and he/she feels the same around you.
Find out whether you can be a knight of your partner and will he/she be the same of not.
And all of the positive factors that you think are worthy enough to be able to trust anybody and love

Foreign Aid Failure
In an article published by The Spectator entitled Why foreign aid fails and how to really help Africa,
Daron Acemoglu and James A. Robinson condemn the current system of foreign aid granting and
suggest an alternate, more efficient solution. They support their points by deducing that extractive
institutions, in which incentives for economic prosperity are few, are the culprit of enduring poverty;
by providing examples where foreign aid failed to reduce poverty (Congo, Angola, Syria, and South
Africa); by giving testimonies from former British Prime Minister David Cameron and multilateral
institutions concerning the effectiveness of foreign aid; and by advising an alternative solution to
combating poverty, involving diplomatic relations

The Is Not Always Better, And Favors The Underdogs
In the discussions of underdogs, one controversial issue has been that being the underdog means you
hold less power and rarely win. On the one hand, Gladwell argues, more is not always better, and
favors the underdogs. On the other hand, In Derksen s story on the Three strike Law contends
Reynolds, who was not considered an underdog, held much power in being able to help successfully
establish the law in honor of his murder daughter. Others even maintain that s power hold no position
for winning or losing, it s how you play the game. Admiring the Derksen family who didn t have much
power or say, and were just very grateful for finding their child s body after weeks of not knowing
what had happen to her. It helped bring the family closure. My own view is when you have more you
can do more. William Petit who was much like Reynolds, used his power and voice to make a change
in the honor of his deceased family. Whether the change last forever or its tempary, it still can makes a
different in somebody life at that moment. Gladwell critizesed Reynolds and the others who helped
enforced the Three Strike Law, because of what he described as a domino effect. They illustrate the
fact that more is not always better; there comes a point, in fact, when the extra resources that the
powerful think of as their greatest advantage only serve to make things worse. (Gladwell 238)
Gladwell is talking about the inverted U curve, he uses it as a metaphor about setting limits. He

Harriet Quimby flew solo across the English Channel. Many people did not believe that a woman
could take on such a dangerous flight. An aviator offered to fly across the English Channel wearing
Harriet s purple flying suit. He said that he could switch clothes with her when he reached France.
Harriet Quimby declined his offer because she was determined to accomplish her goal. They knew I
had never used the machine before and probably thought I would find some excuse at the last moment
to back out of the flight. This attitude made me more determined than ever to succeed (America s First
Lady of the Air). Harriet Quimby decided to fly the Blériot XI even though it didn t have an amazing
reputation. The Blériot XI was by all accounts the trickiest plane Blériot had yet designed, and
Quimby had never piloted the model, much less the particular plane Blériot had loaned her (America s
First Lady of the Air). Harriet did not have any experience in flying over large bodies of water and all
she had during the flight was a compass. She did not have a parachute, seatbelt, or navigation device
on the plane. Another obstacle that Harriet had to overcome was the dangerous weather on the day of
her flight. After facing all of these obstacles, Harriet Quimby safely crossed the English Channel and
landed in France. (Encyclopedia of World Biography; America s First Lady of the

Jamaica’s Troubled Past Essay
Jamaica s Troubled Past
The Maroons
Jamaica s fighting spirit can be seen even in its early days with the Maroons. The fighting spirit is not
uncommon with people who are oppressed or forced against their will. The Maroons came in two
waves, the first are slaves that fled during the Spanish rule, the second wave was during British
control. The Maroons used the highlands of Jamaica to seek refuge, establish colonies and attack
plantations when needed. Even today the beliefs and herbal practices of the Maroons are still evident
in Jamaican culture. Their trouble past has made their life difficult but even today they are a presence
in Jamaica.

Frequently employed as hunters of wild cattle and hogs (Cimarron, in Spanish), the free ranging
Africans formed small armed bands that attacked Spanish overland commerce. Their numbers grew as
they abducted slaves and gathered runaways. Adapting to the environment under the guidence of
Arawak Indians, themselves victims of ruthless exploitation and enslavement by Spanish overlords,
the Maroons settled into established communities high in the mountains. (Olson, pg.234) By the mid
sixteenth century runaways outnumbered whites 7 to 1. (Campbell, pg. 2) This proved to be very
frightening for the Spanish planters because the Maroons would strike with stealth and speed, and
retreat just as quickly. This poem by Anon gives an image of the power and fear the Maroons embeded
in the Spanish planters.

Unilateral Neglect Case Study
The case study my classmates and I studied was the case of Mrs. S who was suffering from unilateral
neglect. According to our textbook, Psychology of Brain Injury, unilateral neglect is a more of a broad
name for this disorder (p. 208). Neglect is also referred to as hemineglect, visuospatial or hemispatial
agnosia, and visuospatial or hemispaial in attention (Zillmer, Spiers, Culbertson, 2008, p. 208). There
is no strict definition to unilateral neglect in our textbook, however, it is characterized by a patient s
inability to recognize or acknowledge the opposite, or contralateral, side of the their body and their
world. Unilateral neglect most commonly occurs after someone has suffered a stroke, most commonly

S did show some of the standard symptoms, however, she did not show all common symptoms seen in
patients with unilateral neglect. Some other common symptoms are patients colliding with other
people and objects on their left side, having reading difficulties, trouble drawing pictures, and trouble
dressing their left side (Zillmer, Spiers, Culbertson, 2008, p. 210). In some cases the patient does not
recognize their left side as their own body. The patient my act as if their left arm and leg non existent.
This is the reason that many thought there was, originally, damage to the motor or sensory systems

in fact, does still have feeling in his or her arm and leg (Zillmer, Spiers, Culbertson, 2008). The patient

The Realization Of Doublethink In 1984 By George Orwell
IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH is one of the party s key phrases. This means that having uneducated,
oblivious people, contributes to the power of the party. The citizens of Oceania must believe
everything the government tells them in order to be controlled. People who refuse to believe these lies,
or try to let people know the truth, are considered enemies of the party. This is considered
thoughtcrime, and anyone who is found guilty is subject to vaporization , and will never be seen again.
In 1984, George Orwell uses characterization of the protagonists, Winston and Julia, and plot to
explain how in a society built upon countless lies, it is a crime to think or spread the truth. The
character construction of Winston Smith is based around his thoughts of truth and conspiracy. He tries
to practice doublethink, but is often unsuccessful. If you want to keep a secret, you must also hide it
from yourself. (Orwell 283). This is a thought of Winston Smith near the end of the book. This
describes the thought process of doublethink, and how one must hide their true thoughts from
themself. When Winston is done being tortured, he begins to hide the truth from himself. Life, if you
looked about you, bore no resemblance not only to the lies that streamed out of the telescreens, but
even to the ideals that the Party was trying to achieve. (Orwell 74). Winston has this thought while
considering whether the proles could ever rebel. This passage is a description of the contrast

Introduction
Transit oriented development (TOD) is a mixed use residential or commercial area intended to
maximize access to public transportation. Such neighborhoods often consist of a center with a public
transit station, bounded by high density growth with gradually lower density development spreading
outward from the center. TODs or transit zones are typically located within a radius of one half mile
from a transit station, as this is generally considered a reasonable walking distance for pedestrians.
However, geographic proximity alone does not make development transit oriented. Indeed, many
developments can be said to be transit adjacent (i.e. within close physical proximity to transit) but not
necessarily designed to promote access and use. On contrary, TOD creates a thrilling community
centered on transit access and reduced automobile dependence. As such, a pedestrian friendly
environment is critical to TOD, but is not essential to transit adjacent development. ... Show more

crowding, improving air quality, and limiting carbon discharges. A TOD neighborhood
characteristically has a center with a train station, metro station, tram stop, or bus stop, enclosed by
comparatively high density development with increasingly lower density development spreading away

Analysis Of The Writings Of Washington Irving, Nathaniel...
Review of writings of Washington Irving, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and Edgar Allan Poe.
By Mantegbosh Letyibelu
Irving, Poe, and Hawthorne were arguably some of the most popular writers of the 19th century
(Dincer 223; Lauter 2505). All three of them are known for their short essays and their advocacy to
make writing a full fledged and legitimate profession. Their writings show that they were hugely
influenced by the Romantic Movement (romanticism); a movement in art, literature, music,
philosophy, politics and culture towards focusing on the individual, the subjective, and the
spontaneous (Dincer 218). Romanticist writing encouraged contemplation and self awareness, direct
contact with nature, and a focus on and an exploration of inner feelings (Dincer 223). Yet, they had
distinct writing style, focus, and theme. While Irving was more of a light romantic writer, a writing
style characterized by optimism, Poe and Hawthorne are widely considered dark romantic Authors
whose writings were characterized by pessimism that sees the world as full of dark, evil, suffering,
horror, and mystery. While Irving s writing focused more on satire and humor, Poe Hawthorne s
writing was more about evil, crime, sin, and mystery. Moreover, Irving seem to be nostalgic aristocrat
with huge interest in the landscape, folklore, and the past (2506), whereas Poe and Hawthorne had a
contrary view of the past (Liptak).

History Of The NHL
Hockey, a one hundred, and forty two year old sport, that has captured the attention of many for as
long as it has existed. Despite the age of the sport, the National Hockey League (or NHL) has only
been in the United States for ninety three years. The NHL had set a basis for the game and also
supported the rise of many teams and secured a forever spot in sports history. The first American team
to be incorporated into the national league, the Boston Bruins, have been one of the longest standing
teams in US history. Even though the game existed in the country before the NHL came around, the
organization brought life to one of the most famous teams of the twenty first century. The team came

During this game the Boston played against one of Montreal s teams; the Maroons. Not many people
attended the game due to the lack of intrigue the 1920 s held for it. When the game was set to start
only a handful of people took to the stands. Boston being only a month old, and the only American
representative team, the game brought intrigue. The Bruins trailed 1 0 after the first period, they
rallied back in the second frame, scoring two goals en route to defeating their fellow expansionists 2 1
( Boston Bruins Host NHL s First Game In U.S ). The score of the game seemed to be a strong start
for the newborn team, however, it was just the beginning of their downfall. After their first, the Bruins
lost every game in the season until the next year. With the help of this game, as well as the
encouragement of hockey fans, more teams were born. During 1924 there were four well known teams
in the seven year old NHL. The original teams included the Montreal Canadiens, Montreal Wanderers,
Ottawa Senators, and Toronto Arenas as well as the Quebec Bulldogs ( Hockey Basics 9). Although

We Grow Accustomed To The Walk
People have different types of lifestyle, personality, thoughts, careers, and choices, but in the world,
there are only a few people who have similar thoughts, ideas, and a passion for writing such as Emily
Dickinson and Robert Frost. These poets express their emotions and feelings, in their poems. In this
paper I will compare two poems by Dickinson We Grow Accustomed to the Dark and A Bird came
down the Walk, and two poems by Frost, Acquainted with the Night and Stopping by Woods on a
Snowy Evening, the history of the authors, and their similarities and differences. Dickinson was born
1830, in Amherst, MA, in USA ( Dickinson ). Frost was born in San Francisco, California, in 1874

Emily Dickinson and Robert Frost wrote many poems about their emotions and the darkness that they
faced or in their childhood or adult life. Dickinson writes about darkness because she always stayed in
her house; she did not leave her house and she did not see the light of the sky in her life (Tredell). We
Grow Accustomed to the Dark, by Emily Dickinson, is about the darkness and hopelessness. This
poem has a deeper meaning about people who have to face all kinds of struggle or problems in their
life. The poet writes, When light is put away As when the Neighbor holds the Lamp (Dickinson We
Grow, 2 3). This means that sometimes it s tough to solve a problem, but there is always hope to solve
any kind of problem. All kinds of struggle can help one to learn about the struggle and also to get
experiences to solve these problems or struggles again in the future. Acquainted with the Night, by
Robert Frost, is about a person who is walking alone in the rain. He is approached by a cop
(watchman) and the speaker looks down and walks away from a cop. The author mentions, And
dropped my eyes, unwilling to explain (Frost Acquainted, 6). This quote means that speaker does not
make eye contact with the cop because he does not want to explain to the cop what he is doing outside
at the night time. I have stood still and stopped the sound of feet. When far away an interrupted cry
(Frost Acquainted, 7 8) this quote explains while the speaker is walking, he hears, someone crying in
one of the houses on the street. But not to call me back or say good bye (Frost Acquainted, 10) this
explains that the speaker does not want to see who is crying; however; he ignores that crying sound
and walks away from it. I have looked down the saddest city lane (Frost Acquainted, 4) this proves
that the speaker in the poem is very depressed. The speaker is lonely or maybe the speaker is

The Friar and the Pardoner The Canterbury Tales, retold by Geraldine McCaughrean, is composed of
many stories told by different characters on the road to Canterbury. On their pilgrimage, each of the
characters tells a different story in a contest to win a free dinner when they get to Canterbury. Many of
the tales have similar morals, but the tellers are very different, such as the tales of the Friar and the
Pardoner. Though both of these tales have a similar plot and can be interpreted in a similar way, their
tellers are significantly different. Although the Friar and the Pardoner are very different people, they
both have a similarly structured story, using a symbolic demons as the antagonist, and with very
similar plotlines. In the Pardoner s Tale, three unintelligent men want to find and murder someone
named Death who is killing many people. The three men stumble upon a pot of gold, which happens
to be Death s pot of gold. They all split the money in the pot and become rich. While one of the three
leaves to buy wine to celebrate their fortune, the two guarding the gold become greedy and plot to kill
the other so they can keep his gold. However, the one who left had a similar idea, and poisons the
wine he brings to dinner. That night, the two who guarded the gold kill the other one, but then drink
the poisoned wine to celebrate. They all die, and Death takes back his gold. In the Friar s Tale, a

freight forwarders and the beneficial freight owner. Like all ports, this service involves providing the
gateway, where goods are moved between the shipping line and the terminal (Goss, 1990). Although
simple in concept, this process can be considered one of the most complex tasks in the logistics

The Pros And Cons Of Hospice Nursing
Usually, the majority of aging people spend most of their time in nursing homes where they receive
specialized treatment and care that is not available in the normal home setting. What is more, the
aging individuals give each other company as they interact in serene and supportive environments that
promote their peace of mind. A person considering to pursue a profession in hospice nursing care

disadvantages of the career is that the professionals are obliged to provide care to the terminally ill;

However the only threat to stopping the Japanese from conquering them was the U.S. Navy. In order

The U.S. issued Executive Order 9066 because of fear and anger towards the Japanese. American

In hopes of the devil not being able to disrupt or hear our prayers.
The baptism of the Holy Spirit is when the Holy Spirit blesses someone with his presence after they
have been saved. It is a very emotional experience in which the person feels the presence of the Holy
Spirit. A biblical evidence of the baptism of the Holy Spirit is in second chapter of Acts where the
disciples were sitting together in the upper room and they were filled with the Holy Spirit and they
began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. Speaking in tongues is one of the things
that happens when the Holy Spirit has baptizes us; it shows the presence of God is with the person.
Speaking in tongues is not a necessary sign of the baptism of the Holy Spirit in my opinion, although
it did happened to the disciples when they got baptized with the Holy Spirit. The gift of speaking in
tongues does not really mean that the Holy Spirit baptizes one. It truly is one of the gifts that the Holy
Spirit gives, but it is not the only gift that appears once someone has been baptized.
I believe that the speaking in tongues is valid still today because the bible speaks on it and doesn t
state that we shouldn t speak in tongues. 1 Corinthians 14:5 states, I wish you all spoke with tongues,
but even more that you prophesied; for he who prophesies is greater than who speaks with tongues...

Plutarch s Life and Legendary Writings Essay
Plutarch was a well known historian, biographer, and essayist. Also, Plutarch was a Greek scholar, and
today is considered to be a Middle Protanist. Clyde Curry Smith, a professor at the University of

Plutarch was born around the Roman imperial administration of Claudius I (Smith). It is also believed
that Plutarch died around the age of 74, sometime after 120 c.e. (Smith). Along with being a historian
and essayist, Plutarch was also a priest, ambassador, mayor, and magistrate. Plutarch was born to a

existent writings, his style of writing is very important. Many people are intrigued with Plutarch s
writing skills, and find they are very important. Plutarch usually wrote to explain an aspect of, some
even about military matters. Also, readers can relate his writing style as trying to teach and persuade
the reader to attain their morality or respectability in their own life, also known as philosophical.
Walbank informs the reader about Plutarch s writing style His style is predominantly Attic, influenced
by the contemporary Greek that he spoke (Walbank). Although Plutarch generally wrote about figures
in the Greek and Roman society, some people believe his writing styles can be divided into four small
groups. These four groups are depicted to be at the request of his friends, for his own satisfaction,
whose career may serve as a warning, and of the founding fathers and legislators of Greece and Rome

The Methods Of Health Care Ethics
 Methods in health care Ethics Additionally to Emotivism, formalism, and consequentialism, several
other Ethical systems are used in the United States, some existed before the Enlightenment thinking. I.
Legalism or Positivism Morality or ethics as seen as a code of laws, in other words the acceptance of
ethical behavior is merely based on acceptable social standards of a particular culture. (Ashley,
Benedict M., O Rourke, Kebin D.) II. Religious Legalism Laws or moral norms derived from Holly
Scriptures (Bible, Qur an), this norms are seen as God will , blind submission to God; this remains
common among Christians, and predominant among Protestants. Catholics does not agree with this, as
they emphasis that blind submission to God does not image the likeliness of God. Does not allow for
us to understand the why? God wants us understand the reason behind each commandment. (Ashley,

God s Commandments and natural law . It says that there is a reason for each of the commandments.
For example You shall not commit adultery . Cheating in a relationship, hurts the other partner also,
hurts the person involved on the action of cheating, breaches the trust given, can lead to many other

He taught himself to read and write by forming letters in charcoal on the kitchen floorboards (Brown).
He strove to teach himself so that he could be a teacher to others as his revolutionary ideas on
education changed how we look at education even today. He began to dive more and more into the
world of Transcendentalism. He was a husband a father and a teacher who created a wave through
America that still has rippling effects today. Much more came out of this movement including his
effect that he had on his daughter who herself spread transcendental ideas through her writings. This
man was Amos Bronson Alcott, and he was a reformer of society looking to abide by Transcendental
beliefs. Alcott played one of the biggest roles in causing Transcendentalism to be still present today as
he embodies the ideals behind Transcendentalism. Alcott took the philosophies of Thoreau and
Emerson and instilled them into the world of the educational system by adding many different
activities to the curriculum, stressing self reliance and self sacrifice to his students and his daughter.
Alcott did his best to support his family, but his lecturing and writing were limited in their
effectiveness. He understood that what he was doing was an attempt to better society, and he followed
the Transcendental ideal of non conformity. The driving force of Transcendentalism was in fact the
people that felt these ideals were best for society. Men like Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David
Thoreau, Amos

Compare And Contrast Maya Angelu And Alice Walker
Maya Angelou and Alice Walker are two amazing poets. Both writers have written about their
childhood experience. These women might be close to a generation apart in age. However, there still
share a lot of similarities in their work. You can compare and contrast their work because they both
have experienced a tragedy at a young age that has made them a better and stronger woman.
At a young age of eight years old, the unthinkable happened to these two women. Maya Angelou was
raped and Alice Walker lost her sight in one of her eyes. Both women see their experiences as a lesson
to be learned and to make them a better person in the long run. In Search of Our Mothers Gardens, a
book written by Ms. Walker; she shares with her audience her traumatic experience. Ms. Angelou
shares her traumatic experience in her autobiography, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings. Although
both women wrote about their traumatic experience, it appears the women have different reasons for
sharing they have experienced at a young age.
Alice Walker talks about her past as if it is something she is currently experiencing. Her choice of
words creates an emotion that she gets to share with the people reading her essay.
Maya Angelou chose to share her experience as if she is having a conversation with her audience. Her
choice of words lets her audience know that she has moved on and her past no longer has a hold on
her. Both women persuade their readers to have hope no matter how dark they may think a

Movies Falling Under The Romance And Drama Genre, Often
Movies falling under the romance and drama genre, often have a predictable plot of usually two
people falling in love along with some drama that could lead to a very intriguing film. Director Ross
Katz, took the novel The Choice, written by Nicholas Sparks, and casted the novel into a film where a
large variety of cinematography techniques are used to get different perspectives on the film.
Cinematographer Alar Kivilo and director Ross Katz use different cinematic points of view, color, and
camera movement to show how true love can be found by two people. Cinematic points of view have
four subsections, objective, subjective, indirective and directors interpretive. The different categories
of cinematic points of view determine how the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In The Choice, the objective point of view is being used when Travis takes Gabby and his other four
friends on a boat ride to the middle of the lake. The camera is being placed alongside the boat so the
viewers can watch what the friends are undertaking. In some of the scene, we can see the whole boat
while Travis is driving and the rest of the friends are relaxing. The women are laying out on the front
end of the boat with their hair flying from the wind and the men are sitting near the back of the boat
talking to Travis and conversing. It would be most logical for this scene to be objective because then
we can see what is going on at once and still feel as if we there enjoying time with them in the sun and
feeling the fresh air from the boat ride. The objective point of view is mainly used the most throughout
the film.
In another particular scene, Gabby and Travis are having a candle lit, romantic supper together. The
camera is placed at the end of the table, angling up in a way so we can see the food, plates, silverware,
and cups sitting on the table. Gabby and Travis are sitting at the same physical level so the camera can
capture both of their faces while they are looking at each other. With the camera angling up it makes
us feel as if Gabby and Travis are even closer now as they were before because they are getting more
comfortable around each other. After their romantic supper, they both do dishes and proceed to start
vigorously grabbing one

Socrates Ideal Of A City
Socrates explains how democracy is ruled by someone appointed by the citizens, and is a place where
everyone can purse the life they want to live. Socrates explains how old desires will be replaced with
new ones, which in turn will result in people giving into their unnecessary desires. This will in turn
create a city where people indulge in their appetites, seeking a life of joy and bliss, disregarding the
need for law and order. (Plato, 421) Socrates defends his claim that a democratic state is not a good
one for the city because he shows how giving into appetites creates a world of indulgence and greed,
and disregards the need for the ruler to bring about law and order.
The final and worst state for a city to be in is that of tyranny, run by the tyrants. Tyranny starts when
people start giving into to their deepest and darkest desires, feeding their evil natured appetites. (Plato,
435) All these things, in the misery and evil which they inflict upon a State, do not come within a
thousand miles of the tyrant; when this noxious class and their followers grow numerous ... Show

This furthers the decaying process because it begins to pit the wealthy and the poor against each other,
creating a city with a divide. This results in one sector overthrowing the other to gain total control.
Once that sector gains control, they elect someone of their choosing to reign over the city. This creates
a false idea of freedom, and creates a city where people believe they are free to do as they please. This
furthers the decay because people begin giving into their unnecessary desires. Once people begin
giving into their appetites, it is hard to control, which then brings the city into full destruction. The
city hits full destruction when people begin giving into their darkest desires, fulfilling their most evil
thoughts, resulting in a city that is enslaved by absolute

A Framework For Continuous Auditing
A Framework for Continuous Auditing
Student: Jhona Blake
Instructor: Rajindralal Mohan Abstract
Continuous Auditing is a part of a company s internal control and is not implemented to replace
regular auditing. Continuous auditing primarily focuses on frequency of risk and the effectiveness of
internal control. Thus, continuing auditing is used to improve auditing organization, efficiency, and
add value to a company performance.
Continuous auditing is an essential tool in reducing waste, inefficiencies, and improve reliable,
relevant, timely financial evaluations. The current data analytic scripts which is used by many
companies is inefficient, costly, and is beneficial to very few large organizations that have the ... Show

That is why continuing auditing is vital to control and assessing risk automatically on a more frequent
basis. By increasing the frequency of internal audit, it adds value to business performance and reduce
risk of material misstatements. Thus, continuing auditing is crucial to the testing of occurrence of a
risk and the efficiency of an internal control. The necessity for continuous auditing stems from the
companies desires to establish effective internal control to analysis, trend on accounts and to identify
variances to alert audit team within the company to a possible issue.
Therefore, effective implementation of the audit procedures is essential to the objectives of the
company in controlling risks and assessing financial performance. Many organizations found it
difficult at first to implement continuous auditing processes because it is a continuing process that
grows as the company continue to use it. The continuous process initially project objective is focused
on developing a model and implementing processes to discover and analyze patterns, identify
anomalies, and extract other useful information in data (Shilts, March). After the initial process the
progressing step is to align the continuous auditing concept or model with the audits policies and
procedures. By creating a strong

The Is The Ethical Foundation Of Any Form Of Professional...
A principle put to paper over 2,000 years ago and credited to Hippocrates; nonmaleficence has
become the ethical foundation of any form of professional treatment in the modern age (Edelstein,
1943). Although boundary crossing has risks I believe the capacity to do harm in this case hinges on
the competence of the counselor. As I read I came to the conclusion intentional self disclosure is an art
that must be mastered. The well being of the client is the primary consideration, however, there are
also considerations of timing, the developmental need of the client, and the counselor s ability to craft
a disclosure that leaves no room to open additional doors. Although it may be counterintuitive
disclosing one s orientation to someone who feels alone in their sexuality does have possible negative
consequences. An emotionally vulnerable client who is struggling with being gay may develop an
attraction to a therapist who shares their orientation and is the same sex. If the counselor is not attuned
to this development the client could confuse the counselor s disclosure with their availability or
receptiveness to the attraction. A therapist who discloses but is not aware of an attraction that is
developing, meaning it goes unprocessed, has tremendous potential to do damage in the context of
therapy. Additionally, if the therapist is taken by surprise and rejects the advances of a vulnerable
client without care it could have unintentional detrimental effects on the counselor client

Theme Of Autonomy In The Decameron
Autonomy
Boccaccio s Decameron is a revolutionary text not only because of its irreverent attitude toward
courtly love, but also due to its portrayal of female autonomy, not something that was necessarily
common in the fourteenth century. Not only did women in The Decameron initiate their own
relationships and seek out sexual pleasure, many of them also refused to submit to men, and some
even went as far as to commit suicide rather than lose control of their own bodies.
The female characters in the stories of The Decameron were not content to wait around until their
fathers or brothers decided on a sufficiently rich and noble husband for them to marry: they
shouldered this burden themselves. Ghismonda and Caterina both went behind their fathers backs to
find lovers: Ghismonda sent Guiscardo a letter indicating her interest and informing him how they
could meet, and Caterina promised Ricciardo, If you are daring enough to climb the balcony, I am
quite sure that I can arrange to sleep there (Boccaccio 292, 394). Andreuola canceled her date with
Gabriotto after her bad dream, while Simona told her father she was going to the pardoning at San
Gallo when in reality she had planned a rendezvous with Pasquino (IV.6, IV.7). Even the married
women in these stories took it on themselves to seek out sexual pleasure: Mrs. Roussillon initiated her
affair with Guillaume de Cabestanh, and Pietro s wife Mrs. di Vinciolo recruited her friend to send
young men her way (V.10). This

Similarities Between Rock And Blues
This week we learned about many genres of music, some similar some different. The two genres I
want to compare and contrast are Rock and Blues. When you hear rock music, you picture electric
guitars, amplified sounds, and complex styles of play. But if you take a deeper look you would
probably be surprised to learn that rock would not even have existed without simple 12 bar forms,
antiphonal textures, or walking bass lines used in much blues music. Though Rock and Blues are
distinctly different they have a lot of similarities that most likely go unnoticed. Rock and Blues were
developed at almost the same exact time around the late 19th century. Blues originated from African
American folk music and like Blues, rock music style can also be ... Show more content on

In the 1950s, when rock was developed, one of the first groups to drift to it was teenagers, being
attracted to its themes of rebellion and non conformity. Certain groups of individuals have sprung up
around certain musical styles. For instance, punk, techno, and ethnic music all include some type of
subculture that embrace an entire lifestyle.
This week I learned a lot about music and the different genres. The first genre I learned about was
Motown. The Motown Sound is a style of soul music with original characteristics, including
tambourine, drums, bass instrumentation, a distinctive melodical and chord structure, and a call and
response singing style originating in gospel. The second genre I leaned about was Blues. Blues is a
genre originated by African Americans in the South of the United States around the late 19th century.
This genre emerged from roots in African musical traditions. Blues included spirituals, work songs,
field hollers, shouts, chants, etc. The third genre, which I found most interesting and amusing was
Psychedelic. Psychedelic music was influenced by the 1960s psychedelic culture, a subculture of
people who used drugs such as LSD, mushrooms and DMT to experience visual and auditory
hallucinations and altered states of
consciousness. Fourth was the rock genre. Rock music is a form of popular music that kindled from
rock and roll and pop music during the mid and late 1960s. The fifth genre was Reggae.

  • 2. Essay on GMO Labeling GMO labeling Ever since their entrance onto the consumer market in the last two decades of the twentieth century, genetically modified organisms (often referred to as GMOs) have been getting mixed reviews from the public. Genetically modified consumer products (primarily food) have pushed the barriers of some people s comfort levels. Born out of either a lack of knowledge or a sincere concern for public health or the environment, a consumer rights movement has been planted around the world pushing for labeling of genetically modified food products. This movement has matured in many places to a degree where interest groups have successfully lobbied governments into adopting criteria for labeling transgenic food ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A generally accepted definition of a GMO is an organism whose genetic makeup has been altered in a way other than by means of natural mating or natural recombination (Le Meur 1). Under this blanket definition, age old methods of horticulture and animal husbandry are also ways of genetic modification or engineering. However, common usage of the term implies the use of recombinant DNA technology. An example of an organism that has been produced in recent years that fits the modern definition of genetic modification is Bt corn. This breed of corn derives it name from the bacteria Bacillus thuringiensis, which has a gene that produces a protein that resists a common soil larva that is known to attack corn roots. Once inserted into the corn genome, it expresses the same trait as the bacteria (European Commision 1). This has ultimately saved millions of dollars and reduced growers¦Ð reliance on pesticides. Because of the success of transgenic crops like Bt corn, the usage and availability of GMOs has increased exponentially. The number of GM crops produced in the United States grew from 1.45 hectares in 1996 to over 29 million in 2000. This accounts for about 70% of the total GM crops grown in the world (European Commission 2). Similar patterns have emerged from other agriculture intensive countries like Canada, Argentina, China, and Brazil. Large percentages of products like soybeans (68%), cotton (50%) and corn (28%) are now ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. John Stuart Mill s Utilitarianism The perceived end goal for most human experiences is happiness. However, the objective assessment of happiness creates challenges. Happiness is individual and personal, but the actions that people take to achieve happiness effect everyone in society. In this essay, I will investigate the standards for happiness utilizing John Stuart Mill s Utilitarianism. Happiness is available to all people at different levels, with clear objective standards at its most basic levels but with only subjective standards at its higher levels. Although, people are able to obtain different levels of happiness based upon their faculties according to Mill, all are able to contribute to the greater good through their actions. Mill makes it clear early in his work that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mill explains the higher and lower pleasures, comparing human happiness to that of pigs. He states, Human beings have higher faculties than the animal appetites, and once they become conscious of them they don t regard anything as happiness that doesn t include their gratification (Mill, 5). This comparison is important, as it serves as a concrete example of more desirable pleasures. Humans mental pleasures are also dependent on their respective faculties. The higher the person s faculties, the higher more required for the person to be happy. This individual quality of happiness is therefore subjective as the two people can achieve the same understood level of happiness with significantly different mental cultivations. A person who cultivates their mind daily and understands more about philosophy is happier, but a person with lower faculties is unable to understand this level of happiness. These human pleasures of the mind are much more superior to animalistic pleasures. Mill argues that once people are made aware of their possession of higher faculties, they will not be happy when these are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Charles Dickens Hard Times Essay Charles Dickens Hard Times There are a huge variety of characters in Hard Times, ranging from the good to the unnaturally cruel. The novel is full of extremity in its characterisation; cruel, bitter and selfish characters such as Mrs. Sparsit contrast dramatically with characters such as Stephen Blackpool and Rachael, who are benevolent and altruistic. Among the cruellest and most villainous characters in the novel is James Harthouse, who is completely ammoral, and therefore rendered very dangerous by Dickens. Josiah Bounderby, is another particularly cruel character. He is utterly self centred and prejudiced against the working class of the novel (he categorizes them all as being greedy and materialistic: You [Stephen] ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What more he was, or what else he had in him, if anything, let him show for himself . Stephen, though kind and giving, does not seem happy in his life. He, like Harthouse, seems to have little motivation. However, in contrast to Harthouse, who has no morals and thus no motivation, Stephen has been continuously ground down by life; physically and mentally worn by the constraints of a working class existence. He seems to have subconsciously given up even trying to pursue his right for a better life, accepting his situation with a kind of quiet submission. In a way, Stephen s kindness is partly to blame for his unhappiness. It could be argued that he hasn t fought hard enough for the things he wants; for example, he is not actually a member of the worker s union. Stephen has a tendency to seem meek and quite passive. He seems gentle but is often depicted with too much sentimentality. It is almost frustrating the way that Stephen simply accepts that he cannot be with Rachael, and must remain in a loveless marriage, when it is clear that he is unhappy (though of course, moral conventions differed in Victorian times, meaning people had a different view of marriage ... According to political scientists, Islamophobia is increasing the threat of terrorism. Some Americas have this fear that Muslims are going to Islamize America which is Islam is somehow trying to take over America or the world. But the possibility for a takeover is low as Muslim Americans are barely 1% of the total population in America. Islamophobia isn t just wrong in the sense that it s unethical for Americans but also, wrong in the sense that it s fundamentally inaccurate. Islamophobia is making the threat greater it is undermining our national security goals and thus, is dangerous. Islamophobia leads to hate crime against the Muslims in America. And, according to the FBI, hate crime data shows a clear sharp increase in hate crimes targeting Muslims beginning, in particular, around 2010 and maintaining a sustained heightened level. Trump, through media, is handing propaganda directly to the extremists. His hate speeches and his recent Muslim ban is giving the extremists exactly what they want evidence that the West hates all Muslims. The extremists, who are barely 1% or less of the Muslim population in the world, are trying to recruit from the other 99% of Muslims and asking them to join their war against the West. I was involved in a number of sports throughout my life and have gone through a number of injuries. There is one injury in particular that sparked my interest in athletic training. I was playing soccer at Chemeketa Community College when I broke my foot. I spent many hours with the athletic trainer there Julie Speck (PT/ATC/R), who gave me the opportunity to work with her in the training room. She also sparked another interest and that is to get my dual credentials in athletic training and physical therapy. I see myself using both degrees in the future like my mentor Julie Spark (PT/ATC/R). She works in a hospital as a physical therapist and is contracted out to Chemeketa Community College as an athletic trainer. This is exactly what I plan to do with both my degrees. As an athletic trainer there are many qualities you must possess. One, unique qualities that I have is being naturally competitive. On the one hand, Gladwell argues, more is not always better, and favors the underdogs. On the other hand, In Derksen s story on the Three strike Law contends Reynolds, who was not considered an underdog, held much power in being able to help successfully establish the law in honor of his murder daughter. Harriet Quimby flew solo across the English Channel. Many people did not believe that a woman could take on such a dangerous flight. An aviator offered to fly across the English Channel wearing Harriet s purple flying suit. He said that he could switch clothes with her when he reached France. Harriet Quimby declined his offer because she was determined to accomplish her goal. They knew I had never used the machine before and probably thought I would find some excuse at the last moment to back out of the flight. This attitude made me more determined than ever to succeed (America s First Lady of the Air). Harriet Quimby decided to fly the Blériot XI even though it didn t have an amazing reputation. The Blériot XI was by all accounts the trickiest plane Blériot had yet designed, and Quimby had never piloted the model, much less the particular plane Blériot had loaned her (America s First Lady of the Air). Harriet did not have any experience in flying over large bodies of water and all she had during the flight was a compass. She did not have a parachute, seatbelt, or navigation device on the plane. • 22. The Realization Of Doublethink In 1984 By George Orwell IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH is one of the party s key phrases. This means that having uneducated, oblivious people, contributes to the power of the party. The citizens of Oceania must believe everything the government tells them in order to be controlled. People who refuse to believe these lies, or try to let people know the truth, are considered enemies of the party. This is considered thoughtcrime, and anyone who is found guilty is subject to vaporization , and will never be seen again. In 1984, George Orwell uses characterization of the protagonists, Winston and Julia, and plot to explain how in a society built upon countless lies, it is a crime to think or spread the truth. The character construction of Winston Smith is based around his thoughts of truth and conspiracy. He tries to practice doublethink, but is often unsuccessful. If you want to keep a secret, you must also hide it from yourself. (Orwell 283). This is a thought of Winston Smith near the end of the book. This describes the thought process of doublethink, and how one must hide their true thoughts from themself. When Winston is done being tortured, he begins to hide the truth from himself. Life, if you looked about you, bore no resemblance not only to the lies that streamed out of the telescreens, but even to the ideals that the Party was trying to achieve. (Orwell 74). Such neighborhoods often consist of a center with a public transit station, bounded by high density growth with gradually lower density development spreading outward from the center. TODs or transit zones are typically located within a radius of one half mile from a transit station, as this is generally considered a reasonable walking distance for pedestrians. However, geographic proximity alone does not make development transit oriented. Indeed, many developments can be said to be transit adjacent (i.e. within close physical proximity to transit) but not necessarily designed to promote access and use. • 24. Analysis Of The Writings Of Washington Irving, Nathaniel... Review of writings of Washington Irving, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and Edgar Allan Poe. By Mantegbosh Letyibelu Irving, Poe, and Hawthorne were arguably some of the most popular writers of the 19th century (Dincer 223; Lauter 2505). All three of them are known for their short essays and their advocacy to make writing a full fledged and legitimate profession. Their writings show that they were hugely influenced by the Romantic Movement (romanticism); a movement in art, literature, music, philosophy, politics and culture towards focusing on the individual, the subjective, and the spontaneous (Dincer 218). Romanticist writing encouraged contemplation and self awareness, direct contact with nature, and a focus on and an exploration of inner feelings (Dincer 223). Yet, they had distinct writing style, focus, and theme. While Irving was more of a light romantic writer, a writing style characterized by optimism, Poe and Hawthorne are widely considered dark romantic Authors whose writings were characterized by pessimism that sees the world as full of dark, evil, suffering, horror, and mystery. While Irving s writing focused more on satire and humor, Poe Hawthorne s writing was more about evil, crime, sin, and mystery. Moreover, Irving seem to be nostalgic aristocrat with huge interest in the landscape, folklore, and the past (2506), whereas Poe and Hawthorne had a contrary view of the past (Liptak). Dickinson writes about darkness because she always stayed in her house; she did not leave her house and she did not see the light of the sky in her life (Tredell). We Grow Accustomed to the Dark, by Emily Dickinson, is about the darkness and hopelessness. This poem has a deeper meaning about people who have to face all kinds of struggle or problems in their life. The poet writes, When light is put away As when the Neighbor holds the Lamp (Dickinson We Grow, 2 3). This means that sometimes it s tough to solve a problem, but there is always hope to solve any kind of problem. All kinds of struggle can help one to learn about the struggle and also to get experiences to solve these problems or struggles again in the future. Acquainted with the Night, by Robert Frost, is about a person who is walking alone in the rain. He is approached by a cop (watchman) and the speaker looks down and walks away from a cop. He strove to teach himself so that he could be a teacher to others as his revolutionary ideas on education changed how we look at education even today. He began to dive more and more into the world of Transcendentalism. He was a husband a father and a teacher who created a wave through America that still has rippling effects today. Much more came out of this movement including his effect that he had on his daughter who herself spread transcendental ideas through her writings. This man was Amos Bronson Alcott, and he was a reformer of society looking to abide by Transcendental beliefs. Alcott played one of the biggest roles in causing Transcendentalism to be still present today as he embodies the ideals behind Transcendentalism. Alcott took the philosophies of Thoreau and Emerson and instilled them into the world of the educational system by adding many different activities to the curriculum, stressing self reliance and self sacrifice to his students and his daughter. Alcott did his best to support his family, but his lecturing and writing were limited in their effectiveness. He understood that what he was doing was an attempt to better society, and he followed the Transcendental ideal of non conformity. The driving force of Transcendentalism was in fact the people that felt these ideals were best for society. Men like Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, Amos ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Maya Angelou chose to share her experience as if she is having a conversation with her audience. The women are laying out on the front end of the boat with their hair flying from the wind and the men are sitting near the back of the boat talking to Travis and conversing. It would be most logical for this scene to be objective because then we can see what is going on at once and still feel as if we there enjoying time with them in the sun and feeling the fresh air from the boat ride. • 45. Socrates Ideal Of A City Socrates explains how democracy is ruled by someone appointed by the citizens, and is a place where everyone can purse the life they want to live. Socrates explains how old desires will be replaced with new ones, which in turn will result in people giving into their unnecessary desires. This will in turn create a city where people indulge in their appetites, seeking a life of joy and bliss, disregarding the need for law and order. (Plato, 421) Socrates defends his claim that a democratic state is not a good one for the city because he shows how giving into appetites creates a world of indulgence and greed, and disregards the need for the ruler to bring about law and order. The final and worst state for a city to be in is that of tyranny, run by the tyrants. Tyranny starts when people start giving into to their deepest and darkest desires, feeding their evil natured appetites. • 49. The Is The Ethical Foundation Of Any Form Of Professional... A principle put to paper over 2,000 years ago and credited to Hippocrates; nonmaleficence has become the ethical foundation of any form of professional treatment in the modern age (Edelstein, 1943). Although boundary crossing has risks I believe the capacity to do harm in this case hinges on the competence of the counselor. As I read I came to the conclusion intentional self disclosure is an art that must be mastered. The well being of the client is the primary consideration, however, there are also considerations of timing, the developmental need of the client, and the counselor s ability to craft a disclosure that leaves no room to open additional doors. Although it may be counterintuitive disclosing one s orientation to someone who feels alone in their sexuality does have possible negative consequences. An emotionally vulnerable client who is struggling with being gay may develop an attraction to a therapist who shares their orientation and is the same sex. If the counselor is not attuned to this development the client could confuse the counselor s disclosure with their availability or receptiveness to the attraction. A therapist who discloses but is not aware of an attraction that is developing, meaning it goes unprocessed, has tremendous potential to do damage in the context of therapy. Additionally, if the therapist is taken by surprise and rejects the advances of a vulnerable client without care it could have unintentional detrimental effects on the counselor client ... • 50. Theme Of Autonomy In The Decameron Autonomy Boccaccio s Decameron is a revolutionary text not only because of its irreverent attitude toward courtly love, but also due to its portrayal of female autonomy, not something that was necessarily common in the fourteenth century. Not only did women in The Decameron initiate their own relationships and seek out sexual pleasure, many of them also refused to submit to men, and some even went as far as to commit suicide rather than lose control of their own bodies. The female characters in the stories of The Decameron were not content to wait around until their fathers or brothers decided on a sufficiently rich and noble husband for them to marry: they shouldered this burden themselves. Ghismonda and Caterina both went behind their fathers backs to find lovers: Ghismonda sent Guiscardo a letter indicating her interest and informing him how they could meet, and Caterina promised Ricciardo, If you are daring enough to climb the balcony, I am quite sure that I can arrange to sleep there (Boccaccio 292, 394). Andreuola canceled her date with Gabriotto after her bad dream, while Simona told her father she was going to the pardoning at San Gallo when in reality she had planned a rendezvous with Pasquino (IV.6, IV.7). Even the married women in these stories took it on themselves to seek out sexual pleasure: Mrs. Roussillon initiated her affair with Guillaume de Cabestanh, and Pietro s wife Mrs. di Vinciolo recruited her friend to send young men her way (V.10). When you hear rock music, you picture electric guitars, amplified sounds, and complex styles of play. But if you take a deeper look you would probably be surprised to learn that rock would not even have existed without simple 12 bar forms, antiphonal textures, or walking bass lines used in much blues music. Though Rock and Blues are distinctly different they have a lot of similarities that most likely go unnoticed. Rock and Blues were developed at almost the same exact time around the late 19th century. In the 1950s, when rock was developed, one of the first groups to drift to it was teenagers, being attracted to its themes of rebellion and non conformity. Certain groups of individuals have sprung up around certain musical styles. For instance, punk, techno, and ethnic music all include some type of subculture that embrace an entire lifestyle. This week I learned a lot about music and the different genres. The first genre I learned about was Motown. The Motown Sound is a style of soul music with original characteristics, including tambourine, drums, bass instrumentation, a distinctive melodical and chord structure, and a call and response singing style originating in gospel. The second genre I leaned about was Blues. Blues is a genre originated by African Americans in the South of the United States around the late 19th century. This genre emerged from roots in African musical traditions. Blues included spirituals, work songs, field hollers, shouts, chants, etc. The third genre, which I found most interesting and amusing was Psychedelic. Psychedelic music was influenced by the 1960s psychedelic culture, a subculture of people who used drugs such as LSD, mushrooms and DMT to experience visual and auditory hallucinations and altered states of consciousness. Fourth was the rock genre. Rock music is a form of popular music that kindled from rock and roll and pop music during the mid and late 1960s. The fifth genre was Reggae. ...
