Brown Shirt Essay
Brown Shirts The most dynamic segment of the Nazi movements before it came to power was
Sturmabteilung (SA) or Brown Shirts which protected Hitler s political meetings from the
attacks by rivals (Campbell 659). SA functioned as a paramilitary wing of the Nazi party during
the raise of Hitler in 1920s and 1930s. Their name Brown Shirts came after the uniform that they
used which was inspired by the Mussolini s Black Shirts, and their main duty was to eliminate all
the enemies and coordinated allies once the Nazis were in the control of the German state, 1933.
SA was consisted by Freikorps, post World War One nationalist and people who opposed the
Versailles treaty while the Nazi Partyor NSDAP was created from German people which... Show

In 1931, the captain of SA was changed and the new leader was Ernst RЕ‘hm, who created a
system structure in the SA by putting Hitler as the supreme leader of SA and then by putting
himself as the chief of staff. Since SA grew while RЕ‘hm was in charge, RЕ‘hm started to
believe that a revolution will happen and he would be on top of it (Hancock 2). Furthermore, he
suggested SA and army to be combined for his new force, and this suggestion horrified senior
officers. Senior officers of Reichswehr became horrified because traditionally they have seemed
SA as street thugs without discipline and class who did bad things to humanity. Among these
beliefs, Hitler also was concerned with the chief of SA who was becoming a threat for the Nazi
party. All in all, RЕ‘hm was not satisfied with Hitlers choices and he sends Hitler a letter writing
that he is betraying everyone and that his commanders are not the ones who will lead to a
revolution as SA would ( The Sturmabteilung or SA 5) . The fate of RЕ‘hm changed after this letter
was written since Hitler made a deal with Reichswehr and decided to get rid of officers of SA.
This resulted to the Night of the Long Knives which took place in June 1934. The Night of Long
Knives is known as the purge where SS or the first paramilitary army of Nazi Party arrests and
kills the officers and the chief of SA which has been a threat for Hitler. By the execution of

Developing Countries During World War II
1. Introduction: Since World War II, trade between growing and manufacturing nations has
strengthened and borrowing of poor countries from the rich countries has increased. The growing
link between these two groups of economies increased eventually in addition to the increase in the
rate of dependability amongst them. With the rapid growth in wealth and industrialization of the
First World, only a few developing countries managed to have adequate economic growth on the
line of the developed countries. Many of the developing countries which were poor at that time
still remained to be poor today even today in comparison to the industrialized nations. Dearth of
capital and skilled labor produces a low level of per capita income preventing the developing
countries to realize their economies of scale through which many of the developed countries benefit
from. Several attempts have been made by developed countries to decrease the disparities between
rich and the poor economies. To finance their domestic investment, developing countries rely on
other governments or international organizations like International Monetary Fund (IMF) and
World Bank to procure loans. Besides these loans, foreign investments in these countries are
financed by private companies, this from of investment is known as Foreign Direct Investment
(FDI). In case of FDIs, the foreign companies, especially Transnational Corporations (TNCs), invest
in the growing nations and remain as the solitary owners of these

Magna Carta Vs Declaration Of Independence
Magna Carta means The Great Charter it was a peace treaty ending revolution against an English
king. A copy of the Magna Carta s first appearance was part of the Lord Mayor s Show which
parade. Magna Carta states how the government should treat its people. Also The Declaration of
Independence states how the government should treat its people. Finally they will compare and
contrast to see if they are similar in how they treat each other s people.
Magna Carta says that the government should treat its people to have different rights. One right
that they would have is the right of a wealthy widow that would have centuries long relevance. It
would guaranteed them church freedom. This means that the rich widows will have every right
and freedom to be in that church. Another thing he says how the government should treat its
people is by making sure of their safety. Taking care of your safety means you have to follow the
rules. Even the king has to follow these rules for his safety. This is stating that it does not matter
how old you are or how young you are everyone has rules that will keep them safe. ... Show more

This means that they will have independence, happiness, and treated fairly. Another thing the
Declaration of Independence says the government should treat its people with equal rights. It
states that all men will be created equal which means they will all have the right to vote. It does
not matter your religion or anything because all men will be equal. The final thing the Declaration
of Independence says that the government should treat its people with truth and self evident. That
is when finally women and men were told that everyone would be equal it does not matter if you a

How Does Nature Influence Emily Dickinson s Poetry
Emily Dickinson lived a large period of her life isolated from the outside world, surrounded by her
close family and friends. It is apparent that with most of her spare time, she wrote poems and letters.
Dickinson s poems were heavily influenced by the gothic movement in the 19th century of America,
and her fascination with nature that is exposed through her continuous theme of nature being the
source of joy or pain in your life. Both Dickinson s curiosity about nature, and the gothic
movement, influenced the recurring theme in her poems, which is displayed in the analysis of

Firstly, the repetition in the phrase we passed in the third stanza shows that the nature of
humans is to go through different stages in life before death. Dickinson ends the third stanza
with the line We passed the Setting Sun which is the last stage of life, death. This reveals that at
the start, the first stage of life is to go through school, study and get educated. By the time
humans grow up, mature, and grow old it is the setting sun; which means that life is almost over,
the way the sunsets there is just a bit of sunlight left before nighttime (either rephrase the entire
sentence or remove the highlighted part). Life is the same way; humans should not fear death
because it is a normal stage of living. One of the main reasons Dickinson wrote this, is because
she strongly believes that there is eternity and that afterlife does exist. She saw it as a glorious
and exciting time because everyone would be in heaven. This view was influenced by her
upbringing in a Christian home and was a Bible reader. Moreover, Dickinson refers to the grave
as her house in the line, We paused before a House that Seemed. This exemplifies that Dickinson is
very comfortable and pleased with the idea of death, leaving this life, and the afterlife. She
experienced many family deaths in her lifetime, like her mother, father, and

Pastors Brokenness
What marks most pastors who come to our ministry is their brokenness. In every case, pastors
resigning from their church are broken, beaten, and discouraged. Pastorless churches are a
paradoxical development in the United States. While plenty of clergy abound in the US, fifteen
hundred pastors leave the ministry each month due to moral failure, spiritual burnout, or contention
in their churches.
Their stories, along with my own experiences in the pastorate, attest to several common traits
among pastorless churches. Churches who struggle to keep pastors possess similar characteristics
and cultures within their congregations. Here are ten observations:
Clergy Competence. For various reasons, a point is reached when a pastor simply is no longer
competent to hold this most trusted position in the church. Often, it is a matter of disqualification

Many churches suffer from too few families controlling the life of the church. One of my
members once said, It s hard to get in here, but once you re in you re in. To which I replied, And
the Spirit of God weeps.
Competing Boards. Another pastor shared the plight of his church. Within the church existed an
elder board of eight members and a deacon board of eight members. The church barely averaged
300 people in attendance. For years these two boards refused to communicate, cooperate, or
coordinate. Any wonder their church chewed through six pastors in ten years?
Consumed Clergy. Most pastors are just plain worn out. In a recent survey 802 or 71% of
pastors surveyed stated they were burned out, battle depression, and feel fatigue on a daily basis.
Pastors usually keep 60 hour work weeks, are on call at all times, are required to perform multiple
tasks beyond their ability, and put up with a host of abuses from members claiming to be
Christians. Once I took a two week vacation. Upon returning from vacation, several members
accused me of looking for another church to pastor during my

The Methods Of Data Collection
Introduction Collecting primary data can be as challenging as a researcher allows it to be. Most
methods of data collection can be used across studies that are classified as qualitative,
quantitative or mixed methods. As a matter of fact, the way a specific method is employed for
data collection determines the classification of a study to a large extent (Kumar, 2014, Page
170). The primary data that is collected should be data that a person not only understands, but
data that they can clearly analyze. Given the option, the non experimental methodology seemed
to be most comfortable. Lamentations 3:40 states, Let us search and try our ways, and turn again
to the Lord (KJV). The qualitative method was chosen as the type of data that would be
researched. It is important that while collecting data for a research paper, the researcher knows
the type of data in which their research paper will consist of. Qualitative study designs are not as
specific, precise and well defined as designs in qualitative research. Also, there is degree or overlap
between study designs and methods of data collection. Some of the commonly used designs in
qualitative research are: case studydesign, oral history, focus groupstudies, participant observation,
commonly discussion forums and the reflective journal log (Kumar, 2014, Page 161). While the
researcher is in the process of collecting their primary data, they should know the type of data they
are searching for, personally observe the data

The Holy Virgin Mary By Chris Ofili Essay
The Holy Virgin Mary was created by Chris Ofili in 1996. It is a mixed media painting, including
paper collage, oil paint, glitter, polyester resin, map pins and elephant dung on linen with the
size of 243.8 cm X 182.9 cm. The artwork portrays Mary, a black virgin, wearing a blue cape
covers from her head down to her body. The cape wraps around her body, leaving an open space
that reveals her right breast that was actually a dried lump of elephant dung. The woman was
positioned standing in the center on a yellow orange background with swirly lines that created a
little detail in the background.
Also, collaged images of woman s genitalia were cut out and spaced all around the portrait. The
spaces were carefully used to show that the collages were floating around the woman. The artist
used overlapping technique to show certain collage cut out appear closer to the viewer. He pasted
some collage over and some behind the woman that you could see through with the overlapping.
The collage images were abstract that you could barely tell that they were buttocks until you zoom
in and see them close up.
Ofili made Mary, the Virgin, look directly at the observers with her big, wide eyes and lips. By
making the eyes big, Ofili has to use more white for the cornea, which makes it stands out more
against her dark skin. Ofili outlined the details of the Virgin in yellow and added a tint of yellow to
every color that he used throughout the portrait. Ofili used vibrant primary colors of

Bipolar Disorder And Mental Health
Bipolar Disorder is otherwise known as manic depressive illness. It is a brain disorder that
causes shifts in moods, energy, activity levels, and the ability to carry out daily tasks. (Cite)
These changes in behavior are outside of the norm as most people have ups and downs
throughout their daily routines. But those with Bipolar Disorder experience shifts in mood that
can be damaging to relationships, as well as their overall school and work performances. (Cite) I
chose this disorder as the topic for my paper because a few years back my mother was diagnosed
with the disorder. I have always been curious whether or not I would end up like her, later on in
life, with the same manic depressive illness. And if I did end up with this disorder I wonder if I
would pass it onto my children. According to the National Institute of Mental Health there are
four individual types of bipolar disorder: Bipolar Disorder I, Bipolar Disorder II, Cyclothymic
Disorder, and Bipolar Disorder Not Otherwise Specified . My mother has Rapid Cycling Bipolar
Disorder and she has been hospitalized quite a few times for psych evaluations. Those who
experience rapid cycling can go between depression and mania as often as a few times a week
(some even cycle within the same day). (An Introduction to Bipolar Disorder). Growing up with a
mother who has this disorder and a stepfather with schizophrenia its very hard to think of good
memories since there was always arguments and fighting. It s a strange

3 Muscle Types
The three types of muscle: skeletal, smooth, and cardiac.
Tendons have fibers that may intertwine with the periosteum of the boe to attach the muscle to the
bone. Aponeuroses have broad fibrous sheets that may attach to the bone.
Epimysium is a layer of connective tissue that closely surrounds the skeletal muscle. Other layers
are called perimysium and separate the muscle tissue into small compartments. This arrangement
allows muscles to move somewhat independently.
A muscle fiber is a thin, elongated cylinder with rounded ends. Beneath its cell membrane, they

One s culture shapes their beliefs, values, and goals. Although I am very prideful in my culture, I
don t believe I celebrate it quite like Ola. Two times a year I celebrate being Serbian. Slava is a
Serbian Orthodox Church tradition involving the ritual glorification of one s family s passed
down saint. This holiday involves pouring red wine in the cracks of Serbian bread and slowly
turning it around while your family kisses it, as well as a home cooked meal. The next
fascinating celebration I participate in is Serb Fest. This is a three day festival that people come
from all around Chicago land to eat Serbian food and dance to our cultures music. Although I feel
like a normal American the rest of year, I am very prideful of where my ancestors have come from.
In Ola s case, she celebrates her culture every day of her life. At home, her family speaks in
Polish as well as they carry on Polish beliefs including family being the main value in life. Ola
loves to be constantly cooking with her mother their most favorite dishes. Ola does not celebrate
any specific Polish holiday but for all celebrations she always adds flair by making her favorite
Polish creations to share with her loved ones. Ola couldn t have shown any more pleasure in
sharing to me her Polish background and beliefs. I truly believe this is a huge part of her life that
will continue to be woven into future generations. A key part of one s culture would be there food.

Chinua Achebe s Things Fall Apart Essay
Many of the spiritual systems that are practiced by African cultures, whether the culture is native or
mainstream, are mostly organized. They all have a certain degree of the priest class, libation,
holidays, creation stories, divine systems of punishments and rewards. In the novel, Things Fall
Apart, written by Chinua Achebe, is a story of tragic fall of a protagonist and the Igbo culture.
Achebe demonstrates different examples and situations of where an African culture, in the
instances of tribal religions, did certain things because of their tradition is and the way they
developed into. African cultures pondered life mysteries and articulated their religions in terms of
the implications of these mysteries through their farming, entertainment, and daily subsistence by
Achebe using cultural traditional and language in an unbiased way to send a message to Western
Colonial nations that African nations have a strong culture and language that is unique to these
nations. Farming, hunting, and daily substances are what make African cultures distinct from one
another. Every African tribe has different methods, techniques and reasoning are for the way they
do stuff. Their everyday life, farming, and entertainment can be compared and contrast through their
similarities and differences. Achebe helps demonstrates how the Ibo tribe pondered these life
mysteries by showing different examples of what it meant to farm, hunt, and their every day to day
life pattern and what they believed

Why Is Reincarnation Real
In urbandictionary.com, reincarnation is The theory that something of a person survives their
physical death and is born again in a new body on this earth, often as part of a continual process.,
meaning that once you die you can be reborn, in an endless cycle. I believe that reincarnation is
real because ancient egyptian believed in it, children have claimed to remember their past live,
transferred birthmarks, and when people have deja vu.
My first reason for believing that reincarnation is real is because ancient egyptians believed that
depending how good you were, was how you were going to going to be born in your next life. For
example, you could be poor but if you were good in that life, you were going to be born in a higher
status in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There have been reports of children remembering places which they have never been before and
reporting things in detail of events that have happened before. A James Leininger was a child
who began to have nightmares, at the age of two, of an airplane crash and believed to be a pilot
from War World II, In the article 6 Extraordinary cases of kids who remember their past lives it
states, Dr. Tucker obtained additional documents for several of James Leininger s statements,
and they were made before anyone in the family had even heard of James Huston or the USS
Natoma Baby. The parents were skeptical about what their son told them at first, but after
searching what James told them they found that what he said was true. There was a man who
died in an airplane in WWII from an attack from the japanese, James could also remember some
of the soldiers names that he claimed were his friends which were real names of soldiers who
fought in WWII.
My third reason is when people have transferred birthmarks. In the article 10 Claims of Physical
Evidence For Reincarnation it states, In parts of Asia, tradition dictates that when a person dies,
relatives will mark his or her body often using soot with the hope that the soul of the deceased will
be reincarnated within the same family. Family members would mark the deceased in a part of
their bodies and see if that same mark would appear in the birth of another family member

Variations of the Game of Cricket
Trobriand cricket, engaged by Trobriand Islanders, has been referred to as a distinct variation of
standard cricket. Christian missionaries originally introduced cricket to the islands as a sport to
discourage war among the populace. The sport has been extensively modified by the Trobriand
society through increasing the amount of players, dancing, chanting, and adjusted bats and balls.
As the game of cricket substituted war among the people of the island when war was forbidden, it
has incorporated most of the older traditions linked with war for the Trobriand nation. The sport
also reflects the objective of pride instead of ceremonial tradition, which was introduced to islands
by their British conqueror and the American soldier during World War II.
The Trobrianders of Papua New Guinea were usually horticulturists who demonstrated and achieved
prestige and manhood throughout contest. These rivalries included the ability to plant yams, the
skill of making good trades and acquiring valuables, and maintaining the strength of a fighter.
Conversely, when Europeans missionaries occupied the island, the Trobrianders were required to
give up their tradition of warfare. When this happened, they lost a cultural outlet necessary to
preserve the political society and equilibrium of power between the Australasian islands. In order to
complement this loss, the missionaries initiated the game of cricket to the islanders, soothing their
competitive character. Even though this game was

Cross Country Running Comparison
Running has many different aspects of workouts and forms of doing it. Comparisons a lot of
people make is that cross country and track are the same thing, but those two sports are entirely
different. Both do deal with running, but the differences are very major and they go much as to
change the workouts done for the sports. More comparisons that are mostly said that if a runner
enjoys long distance runningthen they also should go out for track since it has long distance
events. Even though it has those events it doesn t change the fact the two are very different.
Cross country mostly deals with long distance running, but its running on a grass and on hills.
The works one would have to do to prepare for cross country meets would be transitions of 400
mile repeats, long runs that could be around five to ten miles on grass, gravel, or muddy, and
dreaded hill workouts. These types of workouts work out the legs and core of a person to be
ready for any rugged terrain that they would run on. Cross country also deals with the fact one

Over the years since the 830s, the Vikings had started attacking England. They continued their
persistent attempts to invade and had gained control of much of the north and east of the country.
Alfred led his military in protecting the people and defending his kingdom . Some attacks were lost
and some won. Alfred would sometime pay the Danish armies to leave.
In 878 the Vikings led by King Guthrum, invaded Wessex. King Alfred openly fought with his men
and they eventually defeated Guthrum. One of the terms of the surrender was that Guthrum
convert to Christianity. (Alfred the Great) Guthrum was baptized. The country was divided into two
regions. Guthrum settled in the East. With this agreement, there was a time when there was peace.
King Alfred used this time to rebuild. He organized a system of burhs or forts spread across his
kingdom. This system made it difficult for Viking attacks. Alfred also ordered the construction
of a small fleet of long ships, twice the size of a Viking warship. (Alfred the Great) He felt
having these ships was a better way to fight the Vikings. He would meet them head on in the water
instead of allowing them to reach land. He is credited with being known as the founder of the Royal

What Does Patriotism Mean To Me Essay
As of now, the country is continually modifying itself due to the upcoming generations and the
changes around the world. In fact, it is shaping its attention to the needs of the people and for this
reason, patriotism is shown due to the approach the leaders of this country have taken towards the
circumstances that arise from time to time. In fact, patriotismis often shown because of how an
individual comes into a concurrence and opts to love their country for what they have accomplished.
As previously stated, patriotism occurs when one is proud of what the country s current
achievements have been. As well, it implies that as an individual you view the accomplishments
and failures of the country to see how it has taken the matter of the circumstances into their hands

To Obey or Disobey
Obedience is an age old expectation that rulers, priests, and government officials have required
for years from their subjects. Most of the time individuals follow their leaders without question.
This is the case because the population from which obedience is required believes that they
continue to have a choice. When, for whatever reason this belief is lost, some individuals will
begin to exhibit an increasing disobedience to the requirement. This often increases to the point of
violence or, the case of a country, war. While there are all types of disobedience, this paper will
discuss civil disobedience and the social pressure often associated with it.
A good example of this type of cycle can be found in the historical background ... Show more

Universities over time have done a lot of research trying to understand why people obey and
disobey. Most people believe they are good and trustworthy. These individuals feel no matter
what occurs they will always try to do the right thing in their day to day life. In The Perils of
Obedience, Milgram tells of a woman that the last shock she administered to the learner was
extremely painful and reiterates that she did not want to be responsible for any harm to him .
(695). Despite her desires she still administered the shock, thus being obedient to the person in
charge and not to what she believed. Individuals who still believe in the concept called into
question by the disobedient group, often feel intense pressure to maintain loyalty to the old ruling
entity. In Doris Lessing s article, Group Minds, she states But the majority will continue to insist
speaking metaphorically that black is white, and after a period of exasperation, irritation, even
anger, certainly incomprehension, the minority will fall into line .(724) Pressure to conform can
manifest itself in another way as well.. Individuals may feel compelled to follow the ideas and
rules of someone else and follow that group of people no matter what path it my lead them down

The Human Eye s Ability
A. Purpose
The objective of this experiment is to demonstrate the human eye s ability to detect different
colors in the visible spectrum. In this experiment a red cross is drawn on a plain, white sheet of
paper and placed upon another clean sheet of paper. The student then stares at the red cross for
sixty seconds without taking their eyes off of the cross. Once the sixty seconds pass the sheet of
paper with the cross is quickly removed the clean sheet of paper underneath is visible. A faint blue
green cross should be clear on the clean sheet.
When examined, an object and its color, the image identified is a wavelength of light that wasn t

However, cones are the principal focus of this experiment. To them is attributed both color vision
and the highest visual acuity (HyperPhysics). Current understanding is that the 6 to 7 million
cones can be divided into red cones (64%), green cones (32%), and blue cones (2%) based on
measured response curves (HyperPhysics).
When one type of cone continuously sends the same signal to the brain, the cones hastily become
exhausted. Once one of the three types of cone becomes exhausted, the cone ceases to transmit
signals to the brain. Which causes the brain to assume the cones are tired and holds onto the
image. However, once the top sheet of paper is removed all that is shown is a white sheet of
paper and white contains all light energy. Since the red type cones are nonfunctioning, only the
green and blue type cones receive the wavelengths. This causes the brain to assume the signals it s
receiving are a blue green colour instead of an equal parts red blue green combination, which would
form white.
This experiment hopes to show how the human eye detects multiple wavelengths of light, and how
the cones interact the brain. Moreover, the experiment desires to display, not only, how the cones
work individually, but to show how the cones work in unison with each other to produce the colors
man sees. The experiment also hopes to demonstrate the immense complexity contained within the
human eye.

Helicopter Parenting Hypothesis
In the experiment Helping or Hovering? The Effects of Helicopter Parenting on College Students
Well Being, the researchers proposed multiple hypotheses. Their first proposed hypothesis was that
the college students perceptions of their parents engaging in helicopter parenting behaviors would
be related to higher levels of depression and anxiety (Lemoyne and Buchanan 2011) as well as
decreased satisfaction with their life (Segrin et al. 2012). In brief, that means that college students
who had helicopter parents would suffer from higher levels of anxiety and depression, as well as
showing increased dissatisfaction for their life. Their second hypothesis was that the relationship

The experiment was considered qualitative due to its small sample size that focused on underlying
reasoning and motives compared to a larger sample size that would generalize based of the
number of people which had been carried out through surveys or questionnaires. The participants
would have to answer select questions about their mother that showed either helicoptering traits or
autonomy. Overall, the researchers found their hypothesis to be true. Consistent with the idea,
our data suggests that an inappropriate level of parental behavior control is associated with
negative child outcomes. Specifically, helicopter parenting behaviors were related to higher
levels of depression and decreased satisfaction with life (Schiffrin, Liss, Miles McLean, Geary,
Erchull, Tashner, 2013). Researchers gathered these findings to conclude their hypotheses correct
through a series of questions. For example, the researchers asked the audience My mother
monitors who I spend time with the answers were then represented with factor 1 and factor 2 on
their graph to display their findings. Factor one displayed a child with a helicopter parent and
factor two displayed a parent that allowed the child autonomy. Factor one stood for yes, which

Self-Reliance Vs Transcendentalism
Autonomy Being able to rely on one s own capabilities and judgements or resources is called self
reliance. Self reliance was a key attribute to obtain during the Transcendentalism time period.
This period was a direct reaction of the Age of Reason. The Transcendentalist era lasted from
about 1826 to 1860 and also ran as a part of the Age of Romance. During this time, the primary
beliefs were that people understood that God and everything going on was in direct correlation
with nature. Another popular belief was that everything was connected by an oversoul. Passages

Self reliance was a major factor in this era. Both works demonstrate great examples of self
reliance. Both authors contributed a huge amount to the Transcendentalist era, even though one

yourself, it is just not as in depth and detailed about the true transcendental life. Both Walden, or

Ewing s Sarcoma Case Study
Ewing s sarcoma is a rare type of cancer that grows in the bones. It is usually found in longer
bones of the arms or legs. The thigh bone (femur) is the bone most often affected, followed by the
bones of the pelvis, lower leg, upper arm (humerus) and chest.
It is the second most common type of cancer found in children. Ewing s sarcoma typically occurs in
people between 10 and 20 years old. However, it can occur at any age.
CAUSES
No one knows exactly what causes Ewing s sarcoma. Certain changes in genes seem to cause this
cancer; but what causes those changes is not known. The cancer occurs in white males more than
any other group of people.
Other possible causes include:
Injury or damage to the bone.
Radiation from an earlier cancer treatment.
SYMPTOMS
The major signs and symptoms of Ewing s Sarcoma are:
Fever with no cause.
Bones that break too easily.
Weight loss.
No desire to eat.

An X ray may show where the tumor is located.
A bone scan may show whether other bones are affected.
A bone marrow sample helps find signs of cancer that could be affecting blood production.
MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) is a diagnostic test that uses large magnets, radio frequencies,
and a computer to make images of organs and structures within the body. This test outlines the
extent of the tumor within the bone and joint and the relationship of the tumor to the muscles,
nerves and blood vessels.

Watson And Crick What Is Life Summary
The quest for deoxyribonucleic acid was a search that had drawn out for quite a long time. The
fame for the discovery of the structure of the double helix belonged to Watson and Crick, for they
had debunked the mystery in 1953. Their finding denoted a milestone in the history of science. It
also set the path for future biology studies. This study like all others, began with a solitary idea, a
single experiment, which sparked future generations to follow the same path. This follows the fact
that the scientific methodis not linear, it is circular. Utilizing this, the two researchers, Watson and
Crick, began with a purpose, collected background research on the topic, and created a hypothesis
which led them to results that may or may not have... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While both John Watson and Francis Crickdid not start out the task of uncovering the structure of
DNA, they both eased into it. At the time of my arrival, Francis theories spread far beyond the
confines of protein crystallography. Anything important would attract him (9). A major factor in
his leaving physics and developing an interest in biology has been the reading in 1946 of What is
Life? by the noted theoretical physicist Erwin SchrИЌdinger (13). This demonstrates that while
Crick did leave physics, he did it for a reason. After reading the novel, he was inspired to start a
new science life. Instead of focusing on protein crystallography, the book s ideology moved
Crick s attention to DNA. It was Wilkins who had first excited me about X ray work on DNA...
My interest in DNA had grown out (21). This indicates how Watson commenced his search on
DNA. Although not stated outright, Watson got his ideas from Wilkin. He had observed Maurice
s words and from this, he began to question and became intrigued. The same is applicable to
Francis. He embarked on the path of DNA because of the book What is Life?, which shows that it
must have sparked inquiries, since he developed an interest in biology and then acted upon it with
Watson alongside

clean up your yard. Take the time to manicure your lawn and make it as green as possible (even if
you have to spray it green!). Trim the trees and bushes. Plant new flowers in your yard or even a
tree (if feasible). You may even consider installing flower boxes by your windows or in your front
porch area.
Power wash your house. We don t realize how dirty our homes get over time. A good power
wash will take away the grime and allow your home s true color to shine through again. You can
either rent a power washer or hire someone to help you. Additionally, you should power wash your
windows and screens to make sure they are bright and clean as well.
Fix your driveway. When driving up to your home, one of the first things a buyer may see is
your driveway. What does it look like? Are there cracks in the concrete? Do you have trash cans
in the front? If so, do what you can to repair the cracks on your own, and simply move your trash
cans to a different location. You may even consider staining your driveway to give it a little extra

to the group of four policies: mass education, creating a national market, erecting an external tariff

colonisation was economically beneficial to the colonialist powers through improving the
metropolitan state s international trade and giving them access to cheap resources. Furthermore,
this essay argues that colonisation was economically detrimental to colonies due to both the short
term impacts of deindustrialisation and longer term impacts of limiting development by limiting the

Let s Talk About Sex.....Preference in Non Western Cultures
Introduction
Each day, over one hundred and eighteen million babies are born worldwide. According to the
biological sex binary male and female, every infant has the possibility of being born with sex
chromosomes female (XX) and male (XY), which causes differences in their biological
anatomies. There are also individuals with disorders of sex development or more commonly
referred to as being intersex. Intersex is an umbrella term for people whose sexual or reproductive
anatomies, sex hormones, or sex chromosomes just do not fall neatly into the definitions of male
and female. Examples of this disorder could include ambiguous genitalia, androgen sensitivity, or
abnormalities with how the rest of the body responds to sex hormones. The majority of cultures
around the globe give merit to and recognize the differences in biological sex (male/female binary),
what roles they have played in their traditions/histories, and their current position in framing politics
or societal structures. Some Non Western countries such as China, India, Taiwan, and Pakistan,
include cultures that exhibit a strong sex preference, or more specifically son preference. More
than simply preferring the births of sons to daughters, son preference develops from instances of
gender inequality where outside parties often question basic human rights. Non Western

Traditionally, international politics have been dominated by Eurocentric ideals and Western
Hemisphere interpretations. Rule by Roman Empire, European Coloniser and more recently, United

throughout Western history. For most of its own lengthy history, China developed in the shadow

which introduced China to the world economy, in a little under forty years China has emerged as
the world s second largest economy which will soon challenge a declining US. Alongside its

Tuberculosis
Forms of tuberculosis have been present in the human population since ancient times. Fragments of
spinal columns from Egyptian mummies dating back to 2400 BC show definite pathological signs
of tubercular decay. Around 460 BC Hippocrates wrote on the subject of a disease which we now
know as tuberculosis. In his article he warned his colleagues against visiting cases in the late stages
of the disease, because the patient s inevitable death might damage the reputations of the attending
physicians. The world s population remained totally defenseless to the lethal effects of tuberculosis

Marten s insight proved to be another enormous step towards the understanding and prevention of
tuberculosis. In the 19th century Hermann Brehmer, a Silesian botany student whom was suffering
from tuberculosis, was instructed by his physician to move to a healthier climate. Brehmer traveled
to the Himalayan mountains mainly to pursue his botanical studies. What he didn t know at the
time was that this journey would be attributed to curing his disease. When Brehmer returned home
he began to study medicine. In 1854, he wrote his dissertation titled, Tuberculosis is a Curable
Disease. He hypothesized that his recovery was directly related to the healthier environment found
in the Himalayan mountains. Brehmer built an institution in Gorbersdorf where his patients
received a nutritious diet and spent great amounts of time on their balconies where they were

Standing In Ignorance-Kneeling In Disrespect
Standing in Ignorance Kneeling in Disrespect Why is that humans, armed with a brain capable
of speaking multiple languages, seem to fail at communication at a fundamental level?
Recently, some people have criticised NFL players for kneeling during the playing of the
national anthem. Others claim that those accusing NFL players of disrespecting a nation
symbol are themselves disrespecting those players right to free speech. While both sides seem
passionate about their respective argument, it appears as though both sides are failing at making
the situation better for anyone. Rather than making the situation better for everyone, both sides
are increasing the divide that separates them. Even children understand that if you want to have
lots of friends you need to play nice. Clearly NFL player s are protected by the constitution, but
are they really getting their point across by angering those whom they wish to deliver their
message to? Anyone has the right to be upset or offended by the acts of NFL players, but are
these critics going to change anyone s mind by lashing out and getting angry? It is clear that if
either side wants to gain any ground in their respective argument, both sides must work together to
achieve their goals. NFL players have made clear that kneeling for the Star Spangled Banner is a
way to create awareness for the various issues they see throughout the country, but is this the best
approach to voicing their opinions. Certainly NFL players have a

Benefits Of Drinking Bottled Water Essay
There are many benefits of drinking bottled water, but these benefits do not outweigh the costs.
Drinking bottled water can have many negative effects on human health, and can be very harmful
to the environment. Over the past ten years, the bottled water market has tripled. Every year the
market grows ten percent from the previous year. Because the market is continuously growing, the
amount of negative impacts of bottled waterare also growing. Bottled water has been linked to
health defects, illnesses including cancer, pollution and global warming. Purchasing and
drinking bottled water is not good, and there are many dangers that come with purchasing
plastic bottled water. Not only is bottled water more expensive than tap water, but the
production, and transportation of bottled water is also costly. The United States alone consumes
over thirty billion bottles of water every year while the world consumes 70.4 billion gallons of
bottled water every year. There are four major bottled water companies including: NestlГ©,
Danone, Coca Cola, and Pepsi Co (along with other local companies). Worldwide these
companies bring in $100 billion every year. The Beverage Marketing Corporation (BMC) has
predicted that by the end of 2016, bottled water will be the number one most sold packaged
beverage sold in the United States (Bosque, 2011). There are over 40,000 semi trucks delivering
the bottled water all over the United States. Transporting all of the bottled water calls for lots of

William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet Essay
William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet Although William Shakespeare wrote the story of
Romeo and Juliet in the 1500s, the themes depicted in the play had been around for centuries. It
was a classic tragic love story. William Shakespeare needed his story to appeal and be accessible
to as many people as possible. The main problem was that many people at the time could not
read, therefore producing a book was pointless. So he decided to write the story of Romeo and
Juliet as a play that people could go and see at the theatre. The play was very successful and was
shown at important theatres such as the Globe in London. Thousands saw it. In 1996 the film
producer Baz Luhrman decided to make... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Luhrman knew that his film would probably attract good publicity because it was the remaking
of one of the most successful Shakespeare plays. Critics and cinema audiences would be curious
to see how the play was portrayed on the movie screen. Romeo and Juliet is probably the most
studied Shakespeare play at school and so most people would be familiar with the story line.
Although both versions of Romeo and Juliet use language from the 16th century, the settings are
very different. This is evident straight away in the film, as Baz Luhrman chooses to use a news
reporter instead of a narrator. Also, whereas Shakespeare sets the scene by the narrator
describing in detail the males in the two families, Luhrman shows this in a way a modern
audience may find easier to understand, through their clothes. The Montague boys are betrayed in
a comical way. They are wearing shorts and Hawaiian shirts and appear not to be very serious
about anything. They don t give the impression of being tough. The audience is introduced to the
Capulet boys who are in complete contrast, being smart and well dressed. Their body language is a
lot more intimidating. There is a scene that illustrates the culture of the time when it was considered
cowardly not to want to get involved in fighting. The Montagues don t want to show their fear and

Case Study 1: Breast Cancer
Situation: The client is a 50 year old female teacher who was notified of an abnormal screening
mammogram. Diagnosis of infiltrating ductal carcinoma was made following a stereotactic needle
biopsy of a 1.5 x 1.5 cm lobulated mass at the 3:00 position in her left breast. The client had a
modified radical mastectomy with lymph node dissection. The sentinel lymph node and 11 of 16
lymph nodes were positive for tumor. Estrogen receptors and progesterone receptors were both
positive. Further staging work up was negative for distant metastasis. Her final staging was stage
IIB. Her prescribed chemotherapy regimen is 6 cycles of CAF after a single lumen central line was

75 mg x 1.82 = 136.5 mg
CASE STUDY PROGRESS: The client has now received 3 cycles of combination chemotherapy
for her breast cancer. Her last treatment with doxorubicin, cyclophosphamide, and 5 fluorouracil
was approximately 12 days ago. She came to the emergency room with a 2 day history of fever,
chills, and shortness of breath. On arrival, she is disoriented and agitated. Vital signs are 86/43,
119, 28, 39.8В° C, SaO2 85% on room air. Laboratory data include WBC 1.2 thou/cmm, Hct
24.9%, Hgb 8.7 g/dl, platelets 125 thou/cmm. Differential WBC count shows 37% granulocytes,
60% lymphocytes, 3% monocytes. Chem 14 is within normal limits, with the exception of BUN 28
mg/dl, creatinine 1.6 mg/dl, and lactic acid 2.4 mg/dl. Chest x ray demonstrates diffuse infiltrates in
the left lower lung.
Granulocytes include neutrophils, basophils, and eosinophils.
Bands, or stabs, are immature neutrophils.
Nongranulocytes include lymphocytes and monocytes.
The formula for absolute granulocyte count (AGC) is:
AGC = Granulocyte count (%Neutrophils + %Bands)/100 X WBC
AGC = 0.37 X 1200 = 444/cmm
10.The client s AGC is 444/cmm. What is the significance of an AGC of 444/cmm?
An AGC of less than 500/cmm puts a patient at a severe risk of infection.
Some labs still report both neutrophils and bands, so this calculation is necessary. Modern labs
report straight granulocyte.
11.What are the probable causes of the abnormal laboratory

Emergency Medicine Personal Statement
Throughout the majority of my life, I had dreams of becoming an attorney and did not consider
medicine as a profession until much later in my academic career. I had previously pictured
myself pursuing a career in intellectual property rights and hoped to become a patent attorney,
given my interest in the scientific field. My interest in patent law led me to take science courses
that piqued my curiosity. I soon found myself involved in undergraduate laboratory research,
focused on discovering new drugs to treat chronic pain syndromes while preventing drug
tolerance and limiting the side effects of conventionally used narcotic pain medications. During
my last year of college, I was accepted into law school, however I ultimately did not feel that I
was truly pursuing my passion and decided to withdraw my acceptance. I then found myself with
a college degree and an unclear direction in life, unsure of what new career I wanted to pursue.
Shortly after graduating, I discovered a medical scribe vacancy in my hometown s Emergency
Department (ED). Working as a scribe in the ED was a profound experience that undoubtedly
shaped my career path and inspired me to become a physicianand apply to medical school.
After leaving my position as a scribe and matriculating in medical school, I ... Show more content

  • 2. Brown Shirt Essay Brown Shirts The most dynamic segment of the Nazi movements before it came to power was Sturmabteilung (SA) or Brown Shirts which protected Hitler s political meetings from the attacks by rivals (Campbell 659). SA functioned as a paramilitary wing of the Nazi party during the raise of Hitler in 1920s and 1930s. Their name Brown Shirts came after the uniform that they used which was inspired by the Mussolini s Black Shirts, and their main duty was to eliminate all the enemies and coordinated allies once the Nazis were in the control of the German state, 1933. SA was consisted by Freikorps, post World War One nationalist and people who opposed the Versailles treaty while the Nazi Partyor NSDAP was created from German people which... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1931, the captain of SA was changed and the new leader was Ernst RЕ‘hm, who created a system structure in the SA by putting Hitler as the supreme leader of SA and then by putting himself as the chief of staff. Since SA grew while RЕ‘hm was in charge, RЕ‘hm started to believe that a revolution will happen and he would be on top of it (Hancock 2). Furthermore, he suggested SA and army to be combined for his new force, and this suggestion horrified senior officers. Senior officers of Reichswehr became horrified because traditionally they have seemed SA as street thugs without discipline and class who did bad things to humanity. Among these beliefs, Hitler also was concerned with the chief of SA who was becoming a threat for the Nazi party. All in all, RЕ‘hm was not satisfied with Hitlers choices and he sends Hitler a letter writing that he is betraying everyone and that his commanders are not the ones who will lead to a revolution as SA would ( The Sturmabteilung or SA 5) . The fate of RЕ‘hm changed after this letter was written since Hitler made a deal with Reichswehr and decided to get rid of officers of SA. This resulted to the Night of the Long Knives which took place in June 1934. The Night of Long Knives is known as the purge where SS or the first paramilitary army of Nazi Party arrests and kills the officers and the chief of SA which has been a threat for Hitler. • 3. Developing Countries During World War II 1. Introduction: Since World War II, trade between growing and manufacturing nations has strengthened and borrowing of poor countries from the rich countries has increased. The growing link between these two groups of economies increased eventually in addition to the increase in the rate of dependability amongst them. With the rapid growth in wealth and industrialization of the First World, only a few developing countries managed to have adequate economic growth on the line of the developed countries. Many of the developing countries which were poor at that time still remained to be poor today even today in comparison to the industrialized nations. Dearth of capital and skilled labor produces a low level of per capita income preventing the developing countries to realize their economies of scale through which many of the developed countries benefit from. Several attempts have been made by developed countries to decrease the disparities between rich and the poor economies. To finance their domestic investment, developing countries rely on other governments or international organizations like International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank to procure loans. Besides these loans, foreign investments in these countries are financed by private companies, this from of investment is known as Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). In case of FDIs, the foreign companies, especially Transnational Corporations (TNCs), invest in the growing nations and remain as the solitary owners of these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. How Does Nature Influence Emily Dickinson s Poetry Emily Dickinson lived a large period of her life isolated from the outside world, surrounded by her close family and friends. It is apparent that with most of her spare time, she wrote poems and letters. Dickinson s poems were heavily influenced by the gothic movement in the 19th century of America, and her fascination with nature that is exposed through her continuous theme of nature being the source of joy or pain in your life. Both Dickinson s curiosity about nature, and the gothic movement, influenced the recurring theme in her poems, which is displayed in the analysis of Because I Could Not Stop for Death. Firstly, the repetition in the phrase we passed in the third stanza shows that the nature of humans is to go through different stages in life before death. Dickinson ends the third stanza with the line We passed the Setting Sun which is the last stage of life, death. This reveals that at the start, the first stage of life is to go through school, study and get educated. By the time humans grow up, mature, and grow old it is the setting sun; which means that life is almost over, the way the sunsets there is just a bit of sunlight left before nighttime (either rephrase the entire sentence or remove the highlighted part). Life is the same way; humans should not fear death because it is a normal stage of living. One of the main reasons Dickinson wrote this, is because she strongly believes that there is eternity and that afterlife does exist. She saw it as a glorious and exciting time because everyone would be in heaven. This view was influenced by her upbringing in a Christian home and was a Bible reader. Moreover, Dickinson refers to the grave as her house in the line, We paused before a House that Seemed. This exemplifies that Dickinson is very comfortable and pleased with the idea of death, leaving this life, and the afterlife. • 6. Pastors Brokenness What marks most pastors who come to our ministry is their brokenness. In every case, pastors resigning from their church are broken, beaten, and discouraged. Pastorless churches are a paradoxical development in the United States. While plenty of clergy abound in the US, fifteen hundred pastors leave the ministry each month due to moral failure, spiritual burnout, or contention in their churches. Their stories, along with my own experiences in the pastorate, attest to several common traits among pastorless churches. Churches who struggle to keep pastors possess similar characteristics and cultures within their congregations. Here are ten observations: Clergy Competence. For various reasons, a point is reached when a pastor simply is no longer competent to hold this most trusted position in the church. Often, it is a matter of disqualification due ... • 7. The Methods Of Data Collection Introduction Collecting primary data can be as challenging as a researcher allows it to be. Most methods of data collection can be used across studies that are classified as qualitative, quantitative or mixed methods. As a matter of fact, the way a specific method is employed for data collection determines the classification of a study to a large extent (Kumar, 2014, Page 170). The primary data that is collected should be data that a person not only understands, but data that they can clearly analyze. Given the option, the non experimental methodology seemed to be most comfortable. Lamentations 3:40 states, Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to the Lord (KJV). The qualitative method was chosen as the type of data that would be researched. It is important that while collecting data for a research paper, the researcher knows the type of data in which their research paper will consist of. Qualitative study designs are not as specific, precise and well defined as designs in qualitative research. Also, there is degree or overlap between study designs and methods of data collection. Some of the commonly used designs in qualitative research are: case studydesign, oral history, focus groupstudies, participant observation, commonly discussion forums and the reflective journal log (Kumar, 2014, Page 161). While the researcher is in the process of collecting their primary data, they should know the type of data they are searching for, personally observe the data ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Holy Virgin Mary By Chris Ofili Essay The Holy Virgin Mary was created by Chris Ofili in 1996. It is a mixed media painting, including paper collage, oil paint, glitter, polyester resin, map pins and elephant dung on linen with the size of 243.8 cm X 182.9 cm. The artwork portrays Mary, a black virgin, wearing a blue cape covers from her head down to her body. The cape wraps around her body, leaving an open space that reveals her right breast that was actually a dried lump of elephant dung. The woman was positioned standing in the center on a yellow orange background with swirly lines that created a little detail in the background. Also, collaged images of woman s genitalia were cut out and spaced all around the portrait. The spaces were carefully used to show that the collages were floating around the woman. The artist used overlapping technique to show certain collage cut out appear closer to the viewer. He pasted some collage over and some behind the woman that you could see through with the overlapping. The collage images were abstract that you could barely tell that they were buttocks until you zoom in and see them close up. Ofili made Mary, the Virgin, look directly at the observers with her big, wide eyes and lips. By making the eyes big, Ofili has to use more white for the cornea, which makes it stands out more against her dark skin. Ofili outlined the details of the Virgin in yellow and added a tint of yellow to every color that he used throughout the portrait. Ofili used vibrant primary colors of ... • 9. Bipolar Disorder And Mental Health Bipolar Disorder is otherwise known as manic depressive illness. It is a brain disorder that causes shifts in moods, energy, activity levels, and the ability to carry out daily tasks. (Cite) These changes in behavior are outside of the norm as most people have ups and downs throughout their daily routines. But those with Bipolar Disorder experience shifts in mood that can be damaging to relationships, as well as their overall school and work performances. (Cite) I chose this disorder as the topic for my paper because a few years back my mother was diagnosed with the disorder. I have always been curious whether or not I would end up like her, later on in life, with the same manic depressive illness. And if I did end up with this disorder I wonder if I would pass it onto my children. According to the National Institute of Mental Health there are four individual types of bipolar disorder: Bipolar Disorder I, Bipolar Disorder II, Cyclothymic Disorder, and Bipolar Disorder Not Otherwise Specified . My mother has Rapid Cycling Bipolar Disorder and she has been hospitalized quite a few times for psych evaluations. Those who experience rapid cycling can go between depression and mania as often as a few times a week (some even cycle within the same day). (An Introduction to Bipolar Disorder). In the novel, Things Fall Apart, written by Chinua Achebe, is a story of tragic fall of a protagonist and the Igbo culture. Achebe demonstrates different examples and situations of where an African culture, in the instances of tribal religions, did certain things because of their tradition is and the way they developed into. African cultures pondered life mysteries and articulated their religions in terms of the implications of these mysteries through their farming, entertainment, and daily subsistence by Achebe using cultural traditional and language in an unbiased way to send a message to Western Colonial nations that African nations have a strong culture and language that is unique to these nations. Farming, hunting, and daily substances are what make African cultures distinct from one another. Every African tribe has different methods, techniques and reasoning are for the way they do stuff. Why Is Reincarnation Real In urbandictionary.com, reincarnation is The theory that something of a person survives their physical death and is born again in a new body on this earth, often as part of a continual process., meaning that once you die you can be reborn, in an endless cycle. I believe that reincarnation is real because ancient egyptian believed in it, children have claimed to remember their past live, transferred birthmarks, and when people have deja vu. My first reason for believing that reincarnation is real is because ancient egyptians believed that depending how good you were, was how you were going to going to be born in your next life. A James Leininger was a child who began to have nightmares, at the age of two, of an airplane crash and believed to be a pilot from War World II, In the article 6 Extraordinary cases of kids who remember their past lives it states, Dr. Tucker obtained additional documents for several of James Leininger s statements, and they were made before anyone in the family had even heard of James Huston or the USS Natoma Baby. The parents were skeptical about what their son told them at first, but after searching what James told them they found that what he said was true. There was a man who died in an airplane in WWII from an attack from the japanese, James could also remember some of the soldiers names that he claimed were his friends which were real names of soldiers who fought in WWII. My third reason is when people have transferred birthmarks. In the article 10 Claims of Physical Evidence For Reincarnation it states, In parts of Asia, tradition dictates that when a person dies, relatives will mark his or her body often using soot with the hope that the soul of the deceased will be reincarnated within the same family. Christian missionaries originally introduced cricket to the islands as a sport to discourage war among the populace. The sport has been extensively modified by the Trobriand society through increasing the amount of players, dancing, chanting, and adjusted bats and balls. As the game of cricket substituted war among the people of the island when war was forbidden, it has incorporated most of the older traditions linked with war for the Trobriand nation. The sport also reflects the objective of pride instead of ceremonial tradition, which was introduced to islands by their British conqueror and the American soldier during World War II. The Trobrianders of Papua New Guinea were usually horticulturists who demonstrated and achieved prestige and manhood throughout contest. These rivalries included the ability to plant yams, the skill of making good trades and acquiring valuables, and maintaining the strength of a fighter. Conversely, when Europeans missionaries occupied the island, the Trobrianders were required to give up their tradition of warfare. When this happened, they lost a cultural outlet necessary to preserve the political society and equilibrium of power between the Australasian islands. In order to complement this loss, the missionaries initiated the game of cricket to the islanders, soothing their competitive character. Even though this game was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Current understanding is that the 6 to 7 million cones can be divided into red cones (64%), green cones (32%), and blue cones (2%) based on measured response curves (HyperPhysics). When one type of cone continuously sends the same signal to the brain, the cones hastily become exhausted. Once one of the three types of cone becomes exhausted, the cone ceases to transmit signals to the brain. Which causes the brain to assume the cones are tired and holds onto the image. However, once the top sheet of paper is removed all that is shown is a white sheet of paper and white contains all light energy. Since the red type cones are nonfunctioning, only the green and blue type cones receive the wavelengths. This causes the brain to assume the signals it s receiving are a blue green colour instead of an equal parts red blue green combination, which would form white. This experiment hopes to show how the human eye detects multiple wavelengths of light, and how the cones interact the brain. Moreover, the experiment desires to display, not only, how the cones work individually, but to show how the cones work in unison with each other to produce the colors man sees. Examples of this disorder could include ambiguous genitalia, androgen sensitivity, or abnormalities with how the rest of the body responds to sex hormones. The majority of cultures around the globe give merit to and recognize the differences in biological sex (male/female binary), what roles they have played in their traditions/histories, and their current position in framing politics or societal structures. Some Non Western countries such as China, India, Taiwan, and Pakistan, include cultures that exhibit a strong sex preference, or more specifically son preference. More than simply preferring the births of sons to daughters, son preference develops from instances of gender inequality where outside parties often question basic human rights. Non Western ... Rule by Roman Empire, European Coloniser and more recently, United States (US) hegemons, has dominated in the defining of power, diplomacy and sovereignty throughout Western history. For most of its own lengthy history, China developed in the shadow of the Western Hemisphere, shaping its own course from its Neolithic routes around 12,000 years ago year; rising and falling several times since Yu the Great started the Xia Dynasty in c. 2070 BC. On the back of its most recent rise as a result of economic reforms in the late 1970s which introduced China to the world economy, in a little under forty years China has emerged as the world s second largest economy which will soon challenge a declining US. Alongside its economic rise, China s prominence in the traditionally Western dominated international political arena has also risen, to the point where every move from changes to policy to military action has potentially global impacts, and is thus scrutinized. Fragments of spinal columns from Egyptian mummies dating back to 2400 BC show definite pathological signs of tubercular decay. Around 460 BC Hippocrates wrote on the subject of a disease which we now know as tuberculosis. In his article he warned his colleagues against visiting cases in the late stages of the disease, because the patient s inevitable death might damage the reputations of the attending physicians. The world s population remained totally defenseless to the lethal effects of tuberculosis for thousands of years. Marten s insight proved to be another enormous step towards the understanding and prevention of tuberculosis. In the 19th century Hermann Brehmer, a Silesian botany student whom was suffering from tuberculosis, was instructed by his physician to move to a healthier climate. Brehmer traveled to the Himalayan mountains mainly to pursue his botanical studies. What he didn t know at the time was that this journey would be attributed to curing his disease. When Brehmer returned home he began to study medicine. In 1854, he wrote his dissertation titled, Tuberculosis is a Curable Disease. He hypothesized that his recovery was directly related to the healthier environment found in the Himalayan mountains. Brehmer built an institution in Gorbersdorf where his patients received a nutritious diet and spent great amounts of time on their balconies where they were exposed to continuous fresh air. This clinic was the first step towards the development of a sanatorium. Sanatoria, could now be found throughout Europe and the United States. A sanatorium provided two functions. They isolated the ill from the rest of the public while enforcing rest and a healthy diet. Tuberculosis is caused by an organism called Mycobacterium ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Standing In Ignorance-Kneeling In Disrespect Standing in Ignorance Kneeling in Disrespect Why is that humans, armed with a brain capable of speaking multiple languages, seem to fail at communication at a fundamental level? Recently, some people have criticised NFL players for kneeling during the playing of the national anthem. Others claim that those accusing NFL players of disrespecting a nation symbol are themselves disrespecting those players right to free speech. While both sides seem passionate about their respective argument, it appears as though both sides are failing at making the situation better for anyone. Rather than making the situation better for everyone, both sides are increasing the divide that separates them. Even children understand that if you want to have lots of friends you need to play nice. Clearly NFL player s are protected by the constitution, but are they really getting their point across by angering those whom they wish to deliver their message to? Anyone has the right to be upset or offended by the acts of NFL players, but are these critics going to change anyone s mind by lashing out and getting angry? It is clear that if either side wants to gain any ground in their respective argument, both sides must work together to achieve their goals. NFL players have made clear that kneeling for the Star Spangled Banner is a way to create awareness for the various issues they see throughout the country, but is this the best approach to voicing their opinions. Certainly NFL players have a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet Essay William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet Although William Shakespeare wrote the story of Romeo and Juliet in the 1500s, the themes depicted in the play had been around for centuries. It was a classic tragic love story. William Shakespeare needed his story to appeal and be accessible to as many people as possible. The main problem was that many people at the time could not read, therefore producing a book was pointless. So he decided to write the story of Romeo and Juliet as a play that people could go and see at the theatre. The play was very successful and was shown at important theatres such as the Globe in London. Thousands saw it. In 1996 the film producer Baz Luhrman decided to make... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Luhrman knew that his film would probably attract good publicity because it was the remaking of one of the most successful Shakespeare plays. Critics and cinema audiences would be curious to see how the play was portrayed on the movie screen. Romeo and Juliet is probably the most studied Shakespeare play at school and so most people would be familiar with the story line. Although both versions of Romeo and Juliet use language from the 16th century, the settings are very different. This is evident straight away in the film, as Baz Luhrman chooses to use a news reporter instead of a narrator. Also, whereas Shakespeare sets the scene by the narrator describing in detail the males in the two families, Luhrman shows this in a way a modern audience may find easier to understand, through their clothes. The Montague boys are betrayed in a comical way. They are wearing shorts and Hawaiian shirts and appear not to be very serious about anything. They don t give the impression of being tough. The audience is introduced to the Capulet boys who are in complete contrast, being smart and well dressed. Their body language is a lot more intimidating. There is a scene that illustrates the culture of the time when it was considered cowardly not to want to get involved in fighting. The Montagues don t want to show their fear and so end up ... Emergency Medicine Personal Statement Throughout the majority of my life, I had dreams of becoming an attorney and did not consider medicine as a profession until much later in my academic career. I had previously pictured myself pursuing a career in intellectual property rights and hoped to become a patent attorney, given my interest in the scientific field. My interest in patent law led me to take science courses that piqued my curiosity. I soon found myself involved in undergraduate laboratory research, focused on discovering new drugs to treat chronic pain syndromes while preventing drug tolerance and limiting the side effects of conventionally used narcotic pain medications. During my last year of college, I was accepted into law school, however I ultimately did not feel that I was truly pursuing my passion and decided to withdraw my acceptance.
