The Gravedigger s Handbook Book Report
The first picture I drew was of Liesel Meminger finding The Gravedigger s Handbook, located next to
her brother s grave. Liesel s brother, Werner Meminger, died on the train when their mother, Paula
Meminger, was taking them to their foster family, the Hubermann s. The Gravedigger s Handbook
belonged to a young apprentice who dropped the book and Liesel picked it up and kept it. The
importance of The Gravedigger s Handbook was that it was the first book which Liesel steals, leading
to her learning how to read, and to steal more books later on. It is her only tangible memento of her
brother, and also of her mother. The second picture I drew was of Liesel arriving at the Hubermann s
house located on 33 Himmel Street. She is introduced to her foster mother, Rosa Hubermann and her
foster father, Hans Hubermann. She takes an immediate liking into Hans, but was not so sure about
Rosa. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Max s father, Erik Vandenburg, saved Hans s life during World War I by giving up his own life in the

War II, hiding a Jewish person in your home was one of the most bravest and terrifying things a
German person could do. The last picture I drew was of the bombings that killed everyone Liesel
knew while they were all asleep. They bombed Himmel Street and it was completely destroyed. The
only survivor was Liesel, she was in the basement writing in her book on her memoir, The Book

What Was Elon Musk Major Accomplishments
When something is important enough, you do it even if the odds are not in your favor. (Musk). Elon
Musk is a man that does not give up. He failed many, many times before he succeeded. The
contributions he has made and continues to make to our society is incredible. Elon Musk is a perfect
example of the fact that the greatest things take time and patience. This 21st century developer has
founded and formed numerous things that play important roles in our everyday life.
The South African born entrepreneur Elon Musk had a unique childhood. The future millionaire was
born in Pretoria, South Africa on June 28, 1971 (Elon Musk, Business Insider). He was the first son to
a South African, British father and a Canadian mother. As a young boy, he was quite awkward and
small. He was interested in Sci Fi, computers, and comic books (Elon Musk, Business Insider). He
was profusely picked on by his classmates, and despised going to school. Musk got his first personal

He does not approve of the old fashioned way to do things. Other car manufacturing companies have
done things the same way for a long time, and it has worked. Elon however sees where he can
improve and create his own way of doing things in a more efficient manner. I connect with Elon
because we both disagree with how things have always been done. I do not like to do something just
because it has always been done that way, and Elon Musk thinks the same way.
I chose Elon Musk because I wanted to write about a person who made an impact on my current world
today, and broke boundaries that no one ever thought could be broken. Elon Musk fit both those
requirements, and had many intriguing accomplishments. His innovations and contributions continue
to affect my life every day. Someday I could be one of the many middle class citizens driving a Tesla

The Relations Between Producers And Capitalist Society Essay
When Marx talked about fetishism, he was talking about the way we relation between producers and
capitalist society. The word fetishism was used to describe the practices of religions that should be
magical powers to objects like idols or charms. From Marx s money and commodities, people think
that they have mystical powers, but the powers come from us from own creative labor. If we take a
look inside a workplace it could be any place of work a capitalist factory, a peasant commune, or a
family farm, the relations between different workers are direct, you make a widget and hand it directly
to the next person. If something needs to change by the labor process, someone brings workers
together and says now we will organize things differently. The organization happened directly between
people. Now if we take a look at the market outside the workplace, things were different. The relations
are not direct between individual. In the market, these interactions happen between things because to
change their work, to produced more or less, and go out of business or expand the business. Farmers,
electricians and auto workers do not directly relate to each other as workers instead the products of
their labor beat in the market and are exchanged with one another. The material relations between
people become social relations between things. For example, When we look at car, corn, tv, and
peanut butter we do not see the worker created them. We just see commodities standing in relation one

Disney s Roster Of Heroes
Luke Skywalker and Han Solo are joining Mickey Mouse, Buzz Lightyear and Iron Man in Disney s
roster of heroes (USA Today). Disney Chairman and CEO Robert Iger, along with Star Wars creator
George Lucas, set the financial world and nerd universe on their ear when they announced that Disney
was purchasing Lucasfilm for the out of this world sum of $4 billion (the same amount they paid for
Marvel) (Screenrant). Disney is buying Lucasfilm for $4 billion, adding the legendary Star Wars
franchise to the entertainment giant s stable of characters. Lucasfilm is 100% owned by founder
George Lucas. The purchase culminates a one and a half year pursuit of the Lucas empire, Disney s
CEO said (USA Today).
One weekend last October, Robert Iger, chief executive officer of Walt Disney (DIS), sat through all
six Star Wars films. He d seen them before, of course. This time, he took notes. Disney was in secret
negotiations to acquire Lucasfilm, the company founded by Star Wars creator George Lucas, and Iger
needed to do some due diligence (Bloomberg). Negotiation is one of the most important as well as one
of the most interesting and challenging aspects of supply management. In industry and at most levels
of government, the term negotiation frequently causes misunderstandings. In industry, negotiation
sometimes is confused with haggling and price chiseling. Increasingly, negotiations are conducted by
cross functional teams. These teams must be well coordinated to function as an

Tulips In The Botany Of Desire By Michael Pollan
The Tulip has grown to be a symbol for beauty, grabbing the vain eye of humans all around the world
since the 1600 s. Associated with the bulbous plant is an everlasting craze, driving people into a frenzy
and showing the volatility of financial markets. The symbiotic relationship between humans and
plants has always been thought to benefit humans, but what if in fact the desire behind plants, in this
case the tulip, is their driving force for survival? In the book The Botany of Desire, the author Michael
Pollan hypothesizes that tulips have developed an evolutionary design to enhance beauty, making
them constantly desirable and reproducible. Although tulips serve no practical purpose, they are still
yearned for by humans and billions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We are instinctively drawn to gorgeous flowers, much like the way bees are. One theory could have to
do with flowers being the precursor to fruits, which serve as a food source for humans. Since the
creation of mankind, humans have been built to be foragers, evolving to spy flowers in an abundant
landscape of colors. The humans that were successful foragers were the first to find sweet fruit to
sustain them and the ones to survive. This could have resulted in natural selection favoring good
foragers that could find fruits, remember their location, and differentiate them. This proposes the
thought that maybe all humans recognize floral beauty in the same way because we are products of
our ancestors, who evolved to be meticulous

Influence Of Globalisation On Western Culture
Globalisation is the process of interaction and integration among people, companies and governments
of different nations . This subsequent process has led to the erosion of cultural diversity and language,
whereby Western culture and ideals have extinguished other beliefs and practices, ingraining the idea
that western is best and other ways of living are immoral or unethical. This wide scale homogenisation
has allowed extremist groups such as ISIS to take advantage of the impressionable or naïve, as well as
encouraging hazardous global ties and bigotry within the global community.
Due to the globalised world we live in, western culture and ideals have begun to erode and
homogenise cultural diversity and language. Applications such as Emoji have allowed people from
vast corners of the word to communicate, despite not sharing a common language. Although this
seems as it is a positive thing, it wasn t until last year when Apple introduced cultural diversity (such
as the inclusion of a spectrum of skin colours, and cultural symbols). This is immensely detrimental to
those who are not represented, as it inadvertently shows them that who they are and what they believe
is not as important or valued in the western world. But even with this new apparent cultural
acceptance, Apple has shown with Emoji s, that western ideals are still very much interlaced in the
application. In the travel and places section, the only non western landmark pictured is a singular
mosque. This

Cleveland Cavaliers Research Paper
The Cleveland Cavaliers haven t been that good without LeBron James. Entering their matchup with
the Dallas Mavericks Wednesday night, the Cavs were 3 12 in the last two seasons in games that
James has missed. With a slim 99 98 victory over Dallas Wednesday in Quicken Loans Arena,
Cleveland showed it is possible to get into the win column without James on the floor. I thought from
what I was looking at, they really competed, Cavs head coach Tyronn Lue said of his team s effort
without James. Holding a tough team like Dallas to 95 points, outside of the three that D Will (Deron

the basketball, Lue said before the game. With LeBron out, you lose 25 points. Everyone else has to

Why I Became An Ame Ministry
After graduation, I searched for jobs and most of the time I froze up in the interviews. The only
interview I nailed was an interview for teaching position for Duval County School Board. Therefore, I
became a part of the teaching profession in the fall of 1998 teaching Biology, Algebra I, Physical
Science, and Chemistry in different years up until 2001. Additional, I was a science adjunct professor
for two years at Florida Community College in Jacksonville. I started the five year process of
becoming an AME ministry with my initial sermon in December of 1998 at Wayman Chapel AME
Church and my pastor was Rev. Mark L. Griffin. The church voted for me to be licensed in the
quarterly conference in January 1999. I was examined by Presiding Elder DeSue in January 1999,
examined by the District Conference in February 1999, and examined by the East Florida Conference
of the Eleventh Episcopal District of the AME Church Board of Examiners in April 1999.
Instructors advised me to attend seminary while I was attending the Board of Examiners. They
explained I would have a better understanding of scripture, God, myself, and my calling. Finally, in
October of 1999, I was admitted on trial in the Annual Conference of the East Florida Conference of
the AME Church. I entered Candler School of Theology in the fall of 2001. September 11 was soon to
follow along with the death of my stepfather. Death entered my life. I had never thought about death
being so final. I began

The Pros And Cons Of Peer Pressure
Peer pressure is the influence that one person or group has on another. Peer pressure is a devastating
force that affects the lives of millions across the world. Most often, peer pressure receives a reputation
for being demeaning, harsh, brutal, and generally negative. However, peer pressure can inspire the
affected party to rise above the cruelty and positively impact their own lives. Yes, peer pressure may
negatively affect someone s life, but it may also change their life in a positive manner. Generally, peer
pressure receives a negative perception from all people, especially teenagers. As a person ages, they
begin to care less and less of their image, but in a person s early years of middle and high school is
when the most effort is put into their public portrayal. Negative peer pressure can be very demeaning,
and ruin a person s self esteem. Personally, I have been a victim of peer pressure. As a young boy, I
was in fact obese. I struggled with my eating habits and the result was an unathletic, nerdy,
unattractive boy. This image I had created for myself caused me a world of terror. Everyday, when at
school, I was the butt of the fat jokes and was excluded from most friend groups. My self confidence
hit rock bottom and I had zero faith I would overcome this obstacle. Now, even though I have
overcome obesity and become healthy, my past still haunts me. I am very shy and reserved, and I am
constantly worried about my image and how people view me. Although this peer

Impact Of Environmental Concerns On The Environment
And God said to them, Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion
over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the
earth. The bible tells us to be fruitful and multiply , however, with the earth s growing population, our
planet is beginning to see the harmful effects caused by humans. As time progressed, nations
industrialized and policy and technological advancements further pushed the wave of globalization.
Progress and globalization have benefited us in numerous ways, but for every action made there are
consequences. So, how have humans caused environmental concerns? Well, this essay will discuss
those environmental concerns, and this is important because these issues negatively affect the
environment, which ultimately affects us. As the human population continues to grow and we continue
to progress, the environment suffers. Ever since the Industrial Revolution began in the eighteenth
century, human actions have added to the increase in heat trapping gases . This brings us to one of the
most talked about issue caused by humans, pollution. Pollution is the introduction of contaminants
into a natural environment which causes harm to the environment, and pollutants take form in many
ways, however, the most common are water, soil, and air pollution. Without water, we would cease to
exist, yet it s the most threatened essential resource. According to UN Water, 75% of our planet is

St. Paul Cathedral
Introduction: This semester my paper will be discussing Christopher Wren s building St. Paul s
Cathedral , and why St. Paul s Cathedral is considered to be the most important and famous
masterpiece of England s architecture? The St. Paul Cathedral of Sir Christopher Wren was chosen
because it is famously interpreted in the baroque style in England, and dominated English architecture.
St. Paul s cathedral is one of the most famous important building because it was built on an earlier
church that was severely damaged in the Great Fire of London. It is considered as one of the best
symbol of English baroque architecture . It was rebuilt and designed by Christopher Wren, who also
rebuilt over fifty churches that were damaged in Great Fire of London. It is one of the tallest buildings
of London. St. Paul s is the most brilliant building that I ve heard that it was done by a acclaimed artist
in London after it was destroyed, and rebuild again.
Concession: Looking at the most ten famous building in London none of them will take your attention
as St. Paul Cathedral that took forty years to build after it was destroyed. Also, it was designed and
built by one of the most famous English architects in the history Sir Christopher Wren . It is said to be
at the highest point of the city London. Its dome is elegant as framed by the spires of Wren s city
churches.

Essay On Strategic Stewardship
Strategic Stewardship
As a private church school where the majority of students come from the sponsoring church and the
churches in the surrounding areas, it is imperative that the school to operate in a spiritual climate that
fosters a strong Biblical curriculum and chapel program that parents want. The primary reason that the
families send their children to our school is that the truths of Scripture are openly and passionately
taught in the classrooms, as well as prayers and the discipleship worldview in all areas of life are
modeled and encouraged by teachers and staff. Parents appreciate and value the school s commitment
to partner with families to educate and train children to be ambassadors of Christ. Defining and

The textbook talks about increasing marginal values by recruiting, hiring and retaining quality
teachers. The school currently has dedicated and wonderful teachers who are willing to sacrifice
higher paying public school positions and teach at the Christian school because they love the spiritual
and family like school atmosphere. However, the school has to face the fact that less than 25% of
teachers have advanced degrees currently. To be academically competitive with public schools and
other private schools in the vicinity, hiring more high caliber teachers is an absolute necessity. This
again is a costly endeavor. Creating differentiated salary ranges suggested by the author in the text
might be a good way to recruit quality teachers without financially burdening parents too much.
Achieving academic excellence will help to attract parents who want their children to receive
spiritually sound as well as academically challenging quality education.
Maintaining and upgrading facilities is another area that needs attention. Replacing an old roof and
applying a fresh coat of paints inside and outside of the building will project more welcoming feeling
to potential parents and students. Repurposing existing offices and classrooms and upgrading media
center should be considered in strategic planning.
Building Culturally Inclusive Communities
Although our school advocated inclusiveness, the student population remained predominantly white

Arsenic Contamination Essay
Introduction
Beside the natural activities, almost all human activities also have potential contribution to Arsenic
contamination in the environment as side effects occurs in many parts of the world and is a global
problem. In many areas As level has crossed the safe threshold level. Large scale groundwater
pollution by geogenic arsenic (As) in West Bengal and Bangladesh has recently promoted this element
into an environmental pollutant of prime concern. Epidemiological studies have documented various
adverse effects on the human population. Arsenic contaminated soils, sediments, and sludge are the
major sources of arsenic contamination of the food chain, surface water, groundwater, and drinking
water (WT Frankenberger Arshad, 2002). Other potential sources of arsenic contamination are the
chemicals used extensively in agriculture as pesticides, insecticides, defoliants, wood preservatives,
and soil sterilants (AZCUE NRIAGU, 1994). Currently available techniques for the remediation of As
contaminated soil are very expensive and time consuming, often hazardous to workers, and capable of
producing secondary wastes (LOMBI, ZHAO, DUNHAM, MCGRATH, 2000). Phytoextraction, the
use of green plants to clean up contaminated soil, has attracted attention as an environmentally
friendly, low input remediation technique. It uses plants that extract heavy metals from the soil and
accumulate it in the harvestable, above ground biomass.

Racial Profiling, An Unjust Act And A Big Problem
According to the 11 Facts about Racial Discrimination, The U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics
concluded that an African American male born in 2001 has a 32% chance of going to jail in his
lifetime, while a Latino male has a 17% chance, and a white male only has a 6% chance (11 Facts
about Racial Discrimination 1). Racial profiling, or discriminating against a whole group of people
based on their race, is an unjust act and a big problem in our society today. Arresting people because
of how they look like, or what they believe in is absurd. According to ACLU, Racial Profiling refers to
the discriminatory practice by law enforcement officials of targeting individuals for suspicion of crime
based on the individual s race, ethnicity, religion or national origin (ACLU 1). Although law
enforcement assumes they are doing their job, they need to remain objective and fair in all situations,
because they are violating rights, lacking protection and risking lives.
Law enforcement violates the rights of people by unfairly stereotyping minority groups. By
stereotyping minorities, law enforcement officers are violating the rights of the citizens being falsely
accused because of their race. Some law enforcement programs are highly known for violating an
entire group of people s rights (FBI 1). According to the article by Driscoll and Newton, racial

Jean Henri Merle D Aubigné s The Triumph Of Truth
Throughout the history of the world, there have been thousands of historical figures that have risen in
opposition of political and religious tyranny, in order to bring about a specific change or divert the
masses from what might have begun to be accepted as a cultural norm. This is precisely the position
that was taken by a German friar Martin Luther, the frontrunner for the Protestant Reformation,
throughout author Jean Henri Merle d Aubigné s book The Triumph of Truth: A Life of Martin Luther.

disapprobation came from none other than Johann Tetzel. Tetzel rejected Luther s Theses and labeled
him a heretical follower of Jan Hus (or in English, John Huss ). The bishops that did not support
Luther s new work presented his ideas to the Pope, referring to him as an insane rebel. These bishops,
although quite blatant on their disapproval of Luther s actions, desired for the issue to be ended as
quietly and peacefully as possible. They made contact with Luther s direct authority, and encouraged

Espiritu is set to go back to the Philippines once the suit is settled. But what exactly is waiting for him
back in his home land? Reintigration While most organizations fight human trafficking through more
direct ways, such as assistance in filing complaints among others, the National Reintigration Center
for OFWs (NRCO) helps victims of human trafficking or any migrant returnees to bounce back after
life in abroad. According to NCRO Director Rustico Dela Fuente, many returning migrant workers in
the Philippines fall into the trap of splurging on their hard earn money, eventually ending up with

said in an interview, adding that planning an OFW s return is imperative. Mainly, we take care of
reintigration needs of migrant workers [here in NRCO], said Dela Fuente. We help them find new jobs
and renew their lives. The Department of Labor and Employment backed organization offers OFW
returnees services, ranging from reintigration plan counseling and skills training to financial
assistance. Clemente Enrique, a former OFW, remembered that he was at a loss when the the company

Self Esteem And Body Image
Everyone has dealt with self image issues at some point in their life. Whether it be for a small time or
for a lifetime, everyone can understand the feeling of disliking their appearance. Advertising has
created the ideal body and one that is not like the average body in today s society. With technology at
people s fingertips every second of the day, advertising is seen constantly. By advertising representing
only the thin bodies, men and women who don t look like that feel like they are not acceptable. Self
image is deeply rooted in our thoughts and feelings, but representing the average human in advertising
can create a bit of self acceptance. Self esteem is an issue that often begins in early childhood. Many
girls aged seven to twelve are at risk for developing low self esteem and body image. This puts them
at risk for other things, such as eating disorders, drinking, and bullying (Hartocollis). The girls who
are already developing low amounts of self esteem are already getting plastic surgery and wearing
Spanx to prevent being bullied even further or have a chance of raising their own self esteem
(Dockterman 1). The problem is that young girls are looking for self love in all the wrong places from
our parents, friends, and even strangers (Krauthammer). The thing about self esteem is it contains a
very important word: self. However self esteem is so often influenced by what other people s
validation that we forget to appreciate ourselves. Childhood self esteem

Social Psychological Theories of Aggression Essay
Social Psychological Theories of Aggression
Social learning theorists propose that behaviour, such as aggression is learnt through observation,
imitation and behaviour shaping. This behaviour is learnt automatically through observation of male
and female role models, for example parents, peers and media characters. Whether or not this
behaviour is imitated depends on the type of reinforcement that the role model receives.
Vicarious reinforcement involves the outcome of a role models behaviour, for example if a child
observes a parent acting aggressively and receiving positive rewards for they are more like to be
imitate this behaviour in the future, than they would be if the role model ... Show more content on

This supports the Social Learning Theories of aggression as the children learnt through observation of
the role model, imitation of their behaviour and behaviour shaping. Also they received sweets and
praise as a form of positive vicarious reinforcement thus meaning that there was a chance of repetition
of the aggressive behaviour outside the laboratory setting. The vicarious reinforcement is also a direct
consequence that will have an effect on the chances of the child repeating the behaviour. As if the
child was punished they would have been less likely to act aggressively again.
On the other hand, it is possible to say that the children were manipulated into responding
aggressively towards the BoBo Doll as they were teased and may have become frustrated because they
could not touch the toys even though they had to watch the role models playing however it is not
actually stated how long the children remained aggressive for. The experiment can be said to be
unethical and morally wrong because the children were trained to be aggressive, as they were
probably not used to watching adults behave some immaturely. Also as the experiment was preformed
in a laboratory it therefore lacks eco logical validity, as it may not have real life consequences.
Another study that supports the Social Learning Theories of aggression is Patterson et al (1989). This

2.1 The Macro environment
This consists of all the factors that are beyond the control of the firm and can have a meaningful effect
on the firm s strategy (Dess et al., 2010). A PESTLE analysis shows the effect of these factors in the
Airline industry.
We would examine this effect on Virgin Atlantic.
Political Factors
These are Government operating regulations within which the airlines have to work with. The Single
European Sky (SES) initiative was created to serve as a regulator for Air traffic management in the
European Union. The European airline deregulation has created a single market, removing restrictions
from member countries and creating international competitiveness. This would mean reduced
competitive advantage of national carriers like British Airways which is a good for Virgin Atlantic.

Alicia Chapter Summaries
The main character in this story is a Jewish girl named Alicia. When the book starts she is ten years
old, she lives in the Polish town of Buczacz with her four brothers, Moshe, Zachary, Bunio, and Herzl,
and her mother and father . The holocaust experience began subtly at first when the Russians began to
occupy Buczacz. When her brother Moshe was killed at a Boys School in Russia and her father was
gathered up by German authorities, the reality of the whole situation quickly became very real. Her
father was taken away shortly after the Russians had moved out and the Germans began to occupy
Buczacz. Once the Germans occupied, they moved the Jewish population of Buczacz into mass
ghettos. Alicia and the rest of her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One day Alicia was informed that her brother had been hanged. After Zachary s death, Alicia was
befriended by a woman named Bella. She met many good friends in the ghetto including a future
friend as well as savior, Milek . Months later, Alicia and several other people were rounded up and
sent to a prison in Chortkov. Here the conditions were very poor. Every day more and more people
were taken out and shot. On the inside of the cells it was a cesspool of germs and diseases. Every
morning the jailkeepers would go around the cell and kick people to see if they were still alive. One of
these times Alicia was taken for dead and put onto a wagon with other bodies. The driver of the wagon
found her, nursed her back to better health and then brought her back to the ghetto. During this time,
before, and after she returned to the ghetto attempts to rid the ghettos of Jews were called actions . To
escape being caught by the German police who took part in the actions, they built large bunkers to
hide from their captors. After several of these actions, the Buczacz ghetto had been emptied by more
than half. At this point the time came to move to a new ghetto. Alicia had been in this new ghetto only
a short time when another action occurred. This time Alicia was captured and brought to a mass grave
with a multitude of other Jews. Just when Alicia was

The Tragedy of Syria
It was two am in the morning and I couldn t sleep yet. Hours separated us from changing history. It
was extremely hard to control the thoughts spinning in my mind,
What will happen tomorrow? , Is it a start of a new life? I finally slept dreaming that there will be a
new sunrise tomorrow, a sunrise after decades of darkness.
I woke up the next day as eager as possible and went to school. All day thoughts were still going back
and forth. Will we be able to make it? I think I am just over ambitious and it will be a normal day .
Rushing back home after school, I entered my home and opened the news and there it was A protest in
the heart of
Damascus calling for freedom . I couldn t stop myself from screaming. A storm of emotions blew up
my heart. Feelings of happiness, anxiety, tension, and fear were all bumping inside me. A protest in
Syria was literally a miracle as many declared. Syria has been called the kingdom of silence for more
than forty years. What happened was very tremendous, leaving a day Syrians will remember
accurately, March 15 2011.
That was the start, and now who haven t heard of Syria on the news and international news agencies
every single day. More than two thirds of the Syrian cities are destroyed and more than six million
people got displaced from their homes.
Reports show that there is a minimum of two hundred thousand person killed making
Syria the tragedy of the century.
I have lived the severest days since then. What I went through was

Beast From Water Alternate Ending Essay
CHAPTER FIVE Beast from Water
The tide was coming in and there was only a narrow strip of firm beach between the water and the
white, stumbling stuff near the palm terrace. Ralph chose the firm strip as a path because he needed to
think, and only here could he allow his feet to move without having to watch them. Suddenly, pacing
by the water, he was overcome with astonishment. He found himself understanding the wearisomeness
of this life, where every path was an improvisation and a considerable part of one s waking life was
spent watching one s feet. He stopped, facing the strip; and remembering that first enthusiastic
exploration as though it were part of a brighter childhood, he smiled jeeringly. He turned then and
walked back toward the platform with the sun in his face. The time had come for the assembly and as
he walked into the concealing splendors of the sunlight he went carefully over the points of his
speech. There must be no mistake about this assembly, no chasing imaginary. . . . He lost himself in a
maze of thoughts that were rendered vague by his lack of words to express them. Frowning, he tried
again. This meeting must not be fun, but business. At that he walked faster, aware all at once of
urgency and the declining sun and a little wind created by his speed that breathed about his face. This
wind pressed his grey shirt against his chest so that he noticed in this new mood of comprehension
how the folds were stiff like cardboard, and unpleasant;

Write An Essay On Xenotransplantation
A person, who has a diseased heart, usually at end stage heart failure, would require a heart transplant
and for this case it is a two year old boy. Heart failure is a condition where the heart is damaged or
weak and is not able to pump enough that is required for the body. When the heart is in its end stage
this means the condition is very severe and a heart transplant is needed as no other treatments have
worked (NHLBI, 2012). The heart is usually donated from someone who is brain dead, however there
are not enough donors. This means that there are people in need of a heart donor, but are not able to
receive one, so a new method has been found. This method is known as xenotransplantation.
Xenotransplantation is the process where organs, tissue or living cells are transplanted between two
species. In this case it is a heart transplant between a human and a pig. There are many issues that
need to be overcome when it comes to xenotransplantation, as it is still in the preclinical stage. The
two biggest issues are cross species infection and transplant rejection (University of Walkato , 2011).
For this process usually pigs are preferred compared to chimpanzees that are more similar ... Show

the endothelium of the pig organ leading to the activation of the complement system. However, that

Everglades Restoration
Considering spatial variability of public s preference for the Everglades restoration Everglades, the
largest subtropical wetland of North America, has encountered anthropogenic perturbation since the
last quarter of 19th century when canals were built and peatlands were drained for economic gain
(Godfrey and Catton, 2011). Since then, the system has been exploited, drained, polluted and changed
from its natural setup to escalate and widen the potential services from it. The present state is a highly
regulated system to buttress economic productivity and fulfill several regional demands. The
Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan, one of the world s largest restoration initiative, aims to
restore, protect and preserve the water resources of central and southern Florida (National Research
Council, 2014). While the restoration program is built on a foundation of retrospective science backed
by several years of sophisticated research on understanding the Everglades and similar ecosystem
(Estenoz and Bush, 2015), the human dimension of restoration was not studied adequately(Clarke and
Dalrymple, 2003; Kranzer, 2002; National Research Council, 2014). Particularly, the spatial extent of
residents preference or the heterogeneity of their opinion is important for CERP as the plan aims to
restore ecosystem without compromising the present services (e.g. flood control, water for
agricultural, urban and industrial uses etc.), which are also spatially related. Milon et al., (1999)

Harvard Case Study On Deviance
Deviance is not an event. It is a process that involves multiple levels of disapproval in the society,
which has been proved to be biased against certain groups of people. Deviance isn t just a matter of
actions, but our identity. Everyone commits crime, but not all obtain the identity as deviant. The
process of acquiring that status involves exclusion of others, and the attribution of stigma, as
illustrated in Goffman s study. Visible and perceivable stigma leads to spoiled identity, where people
acquire through interactions with others. We become deviant through membership in different groups
as they produce deviance by participating the rituals of inclusion and exclusion. Its complexity

Harvard University has a great reputation for both their academic standings and student s morality.
Their fear for the reputation generated their ignorance and avoidance to these matters. Around that

can all potentially damage the school s great reputation, and they are reluctant to talk about these

Erin Pattee Brockovich:
Erin, a single mother at 33, is the protagonist in the film. She is shown struggling to find work to

her three children who become the driving force for her decisions for a large part of the story.
Initially, Erin displays an attitude that would put her at Stage 1 and Stage 3 of Kohlberg s model of
moral
development. In the first scene she is desperately trying to land a job as a doctor s assistant and
narrates a variety of interests that she possess, which were quite varying, and continually stresses upon
the fact she is a single mother , with a family of three to provide for.

shows
that George was at Stage 2 of Kohlberg s moral development model. He was taking care of Erin s
children in order to win s Erin s love and when he did not get due attention he decided to leave.
Later in the story we see George coming back to Erin when he notices her efforts bringing in results.
At
this point his actions may put him at Stage 3 i.e. Interpersonal Concordance because he comes back to
Erin and her children at their apparent time of need, to show that he is a good family member.

  • 2. The Gravedigger s Handbook Book Report The first picture I drew was of Liesel Meminger finding The Gravedigger s Handbook, located next to her brother s grave. Liesel s brother, Werner Meminger, died on the train when their mother, Paula Meminger, was taking them to their foster family, the Hubermann s. The Gravedigger s Handbook belonged to a young apprentice who dropped the book and Liesel picked it up and kept it. The importance of The Gravedigger s Handbook was that it was the first book which Liesel steals, leading to her learning how to read, and to steal more books later on. It is her only tangible memento of her brother, and also of her mother. The second picture I drew was of Liesel arriving at the Hubermann s house located on 33 Himmel Street. She is introduced to her foster mother, Rosa Hubermann and her foster father, Hans Hubermann. She takes an immediate liking into Hans, but was not so sure about Rosa. ... Now, Max is 22, hiding from the Nazis, and Hans is his last hope for survival. The last picture I drew was of the bombings that killed everyone Liesel knew while they were all asleep. They bombed Himmel Street and it was completely destroyed. • 3. What Was Elon Musk Major Accomplishments When something is important enough, you do it even if the odds are not in your favor. (Musk). Elon Musk is a man that does not give up. He failed many, many times before he succeeded. The contributions he has made and continues to make to our society is incredible. Elon Musk is a perfect example of the fact that the greatest things take time and patience. This 21st century developer has founded and formed numerous things that play important roles in our everyday life. The South African born entrepreneur Elon Musk had a unique childhood. The future millionaire was born in Pretoria, South Africa on June 28, 1971 (Elon Musk, Business Insider). He was the first son to a South African, British father and a Canadian mother. As a young boy, he was quite awkward and small. He was interested in Sci Fi, computers, and comic books (Elon Musk, Business Insider). He was profusely picked on by his classmates, and despised going to school. Musk got his first personal computer at the age of 9. He taught himself computer programing at the age of 12 ... Elon however sees where he can improve and create his own way of doing things in a more efficient manner. I connect with Elon because we both disagree with how things have always been done. I do not like to do something just because it has always been done that way, and Elon Musk thinks the same way. I chose Elon Musk because I wanted to write about a person who made an impact on my current world today, and broke boundaries that no one ever thought could be broken. Elon Musk fit both those requirements, and had many intriguing accomplishments. His innovations and contributions continue to affect my life every day. • 4. The Relations Between Producers And Capitalist Society Essay When Marx talked about fetishism, he was talking about the way we relation between producers and capitalist society. The word fetishism was used to describe the practices of religions that should be magical powers to objects like idols or charms. From Marx s money and commodities, people think that they have mystical powers, but the powers come from us from own creative labor. If we take a look inside a workplace it could be any place of work a capitalist factory, a peasant commune, or a family farm, the relations between different workers are direct, you make a widget and hand it directly to the next person. If something needs to change by the labor process, someone brings workers together and says now we will organize things differently. The organization happened directly between people. Now if we take a look at the market outside the workplace, things were different. The relations are not direct between individual. In the market, these interactions happen between things because to change their work, to produced more or less, and go out of business or expand the business. Farmers, electricians and auto workers do not directly relate to each other as workers instead the products of their labor beat in the market and are exchanged with one another. The material relations between people become social relations between things. For example, When we look at car, corn, tv, and peanut butter we do not see the worker created them. We just see commodities standing in relation one to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Disney s Roster Of Heroes Luke Skywalker and Han Solo are joining Mickey Mouse, Buzz Lightyear and Iron Man in Disney s roster of heroes (USA Today). Disney Chairman and CEO Robert Iger, along with Star Wars creator George Lucas, set the financial world and nerd universe on their ear when they announced that Disney was purchasing Lucasfilm for the out of this world sum of $4 billion (the same amount they paid for Marvel) (Screenrant). Disney is buying Lucasfilm for $4 billion, adding the legendary Star Wars franchise to the entertainment giant s stable of characters. Lucasfilm is 100% owned by founder George Lucas. The purchase culminates a one and a half year pursuit of the Lucas empire, Disney s CEO said (USA Today). One weekend last October, Robert Iger, chief executive officer of Walt Disney (DIS), sat through all six Star Wars films. He d seen them before, of course. This time, he took notes. Disney was in secret negotiations to acquire Lucasfilm, the company founded by Star Wars creator George Lucas, and Iger needed to do some due diligence (Bloomberg). Negotiation is one of the most important as well as one of the most interesting and challenging aspects of supply management. In industry and at most levels of government, the term negotiation frequently causes misunderstandings. In industry, negotiation sometimes is confused with haggling and price chiseling. Increasingly, negotiations are conducted by cross functional teams. These teams must be well coordinated to function as an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Tulips In The Botany Of Desire By Michael Pollan The Tulip has grown to be a symbol for beauty, grabbing the vain eye of humans all around the world since the 1600 s. Associated with the bulbous plant is an everlasting craze, driving people into a frenzy and showing the volatility of financial markets. The symbiotic relationship between humans and plants has always been thought to benefit humans, but what if in fact the desire behind plants, in this case the tulip, is their driving force for survival? In the book The Botany of Desire, the author Michael Pollan hypothesizes that tulips have developed an evolutionary design to enhance beauty, making them constantly desirable and reproducible. Although tulips serve no practical purpose, they are still yearned for by humans and billions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We are instinctively drawn to gorgeous flowers, much like the way bees are. One theory could have to do with flowers being the precursor to fruits, which serve as a food source for humans. Since the creation of mankind, humans have been built to be foragers, evolving to spy flowers in an abundant landscape of colors. The humans that were successful foragers were the first to find sweet fruit to sustain them and the ones to survive. This could have resulted in natural selection favoring good foragers that could find fruits, remember their location, and differentiate them. This proposes the thought that maybe all humans recognize floral beauty in the same way because we are products of our ancestors, who evolved to be meticulous ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Influence Of Globalisation On Western Culture Globalisation is the process of interaction and integration among people, companies and governments of different nations . This subsequent process has led to the erosion of cultural diversity and language, whereby Western culture and ideals have extinguished other beliefs and practices, ingraining the idea that western is best and other ways of living are immoral or unethical. This wide scale homogenisation has allowed extremist groups such as ISIS to take advantage of the impressionable or naïve, as well as encouraging hazardous global ties and bigotry within the global community. Due to the globalised world we live in, western culture and ideals have begun to erode and homogenise cultural diversity and language. Applications such as Emoji have allowed people from vast corners of the word to communicate, despite not sharing a common language. Although this seems as it is a positive thing, it wasn t until last year when Apple introduced cultural diversity (such as the inclusion of a spectrum of skin colours, and cultural symbols). This is immensely detrimental to those who are not represented, as it inadvertently shows them that who they are and what they believe is not as important or valued in the western world. But even with this new apparent cultural acceptance, Apple has shown with Emoji s, that western ideals are still very much interlaced in the application. In the travel and places section, the only non western landmark pictured is a singular mosque. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Entering their matchup with the Dallas Mavericks Wednesday night, the Cavs were 3 12 in the last two seasons in games that James has missed. With a slim 99 98 victory over Dallas Wednesday in Quicken Loans Arena, Cleveland showed it is possible to get into the win column without James on the floor. I thought from what I was looking at, they really competed, Cavs head coach Tyronn Lue said of his team s effort without James. Holding a tough team like Dallas to 95 points, outside of the three that D Will (Deron Williams) made at the end of the game, that s a pretty big step. Everyone else has to step up and also be great offensively, but we re going to go through Kyrie and Kevin, and they have to produce for us. Irving and Love did just that. Irving led Cleveland with a game high 33 points and five rebounds. Love added 23 points and 18 rebounds, while Smith finished with 13 points, four rebounds and four assists. • 9. Why I Became An Ame Ministry After graduation, I searched for jobs and most of the time I froze up in the interviews. The only interview I nailed was an interview for teaching position for Duval County School Board. Therefore, I became a part of the teaching profession in the fall of 1998 teaching Biology, Algebra I, Physical Science, and Chemistry in different years up until 2001. Additional, I was a science adjunct professor for two years at Florida Community College in Jacksonville. I started the five year process of becoming an AME ministry with my initial sermon in December of 1998 at Wayman Chapel AME Church and my pastor was Rev. Mark L. Griffin. The church voted for me to be licensed in the quarterly conference in January 1999. I was examined by Presiding Elder DeSue in January 1999, examined by the District Conference in February 1999, and examined by the East Florida Conference of the Eleventh Episcopal District of the AME Church Board of Examiners in April 1999. Instructors advised me to attend seminary while I was attending the Board of Examiners. They explained I would have a better understanding of scripture, God, myself, and my calling. Finally, in October of 1999, I was admitted on trial in the Annual Conference of the East Florida Conference of the AME Church. I entered Candler School of Theology in the fall of 2001. • 10. The Pros And Cons Of Peer Pressure Peer pressure is the influence that one person or group has on another. Peer pressure is a devastating force that affects the lives of millions across the world. Most often, peer pressure receives a reputation for being demeaning, harsh, brutal, and generally negative. However, peer pressure can inspire the affected party to rise above the cruelty and positively impact their own lives. Yes, peer pressure may negatively affect someone s life, but it may also change their life in a positive manner. Generally, peer pressure receives a negative perception from all people, especially teenagers. As a person ages, they begin to care less and less of their image, but in a person s early years of middle and high school is when the most effort is put into their public portrayal. Negative peer pressure can be very demeaning, and ruin a person s self esteem. Personally, I have been a victim of peer pressure. As a young boy, I was in fact obese. I struggled with my eating habits and the result was an unathletic, nerdy, unattractive boy. This image I had created for myself caused me a world of terror. Everyday, when at school, I was the butt of the fat jokes and was excluded from most friend groups. My self confidence hit rock bottom and I had zero faith I would overcome this obstacle. Now, even though I have overcome obesity and become healthy, my past still haunts me. I am very shy and reserved, and I am constantly worried about my image and how people view me. Although this peer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Impact Of Environmental Concerns On The Environment And God said to them, Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth. The bible tells us to be fruitful and multiply , however, with the earth s growing population, our planet is beginning to see the harmful effects caused by humans. As time progressed, nations industrialized and policy and technological advancements further pushed the wave of globalization. Progress and globalization have benefited us in numerous ways, but for every action made there are consequences. So, how have humans caused environmental concerns? Well, this essay will discuss those environmental concerns, and this is important because these issues negatively affect the environment, which ultimately affects us. As the human population continues to grow and we continue to progress, the environment suffers. Ever since the Industrial Revolution began in the eighteenth century, human actions have added to the increase in heat trapping gases . This brings us to one of the most talked about issue caused by humans, pollution. Pollution is the introduction of contaminants into a natural environment which causes harm to the environment, and pollutants take form in many ways, however, the most common are water, soil, and air pollution. Without water, we would cease to exist, yet it s the most threatened essential resource. According to UN Water, 75% of our planet is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Doyle HUM 102 301 10/15/16 Research paper St. Paul Cathedral Introduction: This semester my paper will be discussing Christopher Wren s building St. Paul s Cathedral , and why St. Paul s Cathedral is considered to be the most important and famous masterpiece of England s architecture? The St. Paul Cathedral of Sir Christopher Wren was chosen because it is famously interpreted in the baroque style in England, and dominated English architecture. St. Paul s cathedral is one of the most famous important building because it was built on an earlier church that was severely damaged in the Great Fire of London. It is considered as one of the best symbol of English baroque architecture . It was rebuilt and designed by Christopher Wren, who also rebuilt over fifty churches that were damaged in Great Fire of London. It is one of the tallest buildings of London. St. Paul s is the most brilliant building that I ve heard that it was done by a acclaimed artist in London after it was destroyed, and rebuild again. Concession: Looking at the most ten famous building in London none of them will take your attention as St. Paul Cathedral that took forty years to build after it was destroyed. Also, it was designed and built by one of the most famous English architects in the history Sir Christopher Wren . It is said to be at the highest point of the city London. The primary reason that the families send their children to our school is that the truths of Scripture are openly and passionately taught in the classrooms, as well as prayers and the discipleship worldview in all areas of life are modeled and encouraged by teachers and staff. The school currently has dedicated and wonderful teachers who are willing to sacrifice higher paying public school positions and teach at the Christian school because they love the spiritual and family like school atmosphere. However, the school has to face the fact that less than 25% of teachers have advanced degrees currently. To be academically competitive with public schools and other private schools in the vicinity, hiring more high caliber teachers is an absolute necessity. This again is a costly endeavor. Creating differentiated salary ranges suggested by the author in the text might be a good way to recruit quality teachers without financially burdening parents too much. Achieving academic excellence will help to attract parents who want their children to receive spiritually sound as well as academically challenging quality education. Maintaining and upgrading facilities is another area that needs attention. Replacing an old roof and applying a fresh coat of paints inside and outside of the building will project more welcoming feeling to potential parents and students. Repurposing existing offices and classrooms and upgrading media center should be considered in strategic planning. Social Psychological Theories of Aggression Essay Social Psychological Theories of Aggression Social learning theorists propose that behaviour, such as aggression is learnt through observation, imitation and behaviour shaping. This behaviour is learnt automatically through observation of male and female role models, for example parents, peers and media characters. Whether or not this behaviour is imitated depends on the type of reinforcement that the role model receives. Vicarious reinforcement involves the outcome of a role models behaviour, for example if a child observes a parent acting aggressively and receiving positive rewards for they are more like to be imitate this behaviour in the future, than they would be if the role model ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This supports the Social Learning Theories of aggression as the children learnt through observation of the role model, imitation of their behaviour and behaviour shaping. Also they received sweets and praise as a form of positive vicarious reinforcement thus meaning that there was a chance of repetition of the aggressive behaviour outside the laboratory setting. The vicarious reinforcement is also a direct consequence that will have an effect on the chances of the child repeating the behaviour. As if the child was punished they would have been less likely to act aggressively again. On the other hand, it is possible to say that the children were manipulated into responding aggressively towards the BoBo Doll as they were teased and may have become frustrated because they could not touch the toys even though they had to watch the role models playing however it is not actually stated how long the children remained aggressive for. The experiment can be said to be unethical and morally wrong because the children were trained to be aggressive, as they were probably not used to watching adults behave some immaturely.
