Buddist Diet Research Paper
I am atheist, and I chose Buddhist dietary to follow because I am living with my aunt who is a truly
Buddhist and I also wanted to try a new flavor. On Thursday, October 15th, I told my aunt that I
wanted to follow Buddist diet for one day because my aunt usually cooks diet meal for her, so this was
the amazing experience for me because I have never tried to eat Buddist dietary since I came to the
United States. My aunt was kind of surprised about my decision because she has never seen me eat
diet meal before, so she was quite questionable about my decision. However, she still cooked two
meals for me which were brunch, and dinner. For my brunch, I had bodhi leaf noodle which was the
noodle that has the flavor like bodhi leaf. It was really

My First White Water Fracking Expedition
The excitement of my first whitewater rafting expedition soon evaporated, like an elusive dream. The
rolling, brown waves played a dangerous game of leapfrog before me, turning white for a brief second
before crashing down as their turn concluded. The overpowering roar of the water almost drowned out
the shouting voices of the sun kissed guides. Grab a life jacket and a helmet! Then go by a raft! Hurry
it up, let s move! Feeling not quite as prepared as I would have liked, I was nonetheless ushered onto a
blue raft. We were told to shove one foot under the inflatable seat in front of us in order to not capsize
during the excursion. An increasing numbness crept up my leg as my foot began to throb, diverting my
attention for only a moment. The high pitched squeals and yells of those already meandering down the
river snapped me out of my daze as I looked around to assure that my largest fear had not come true
for someone else. A small ripple ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The tip of my plastic paddle plunged into the dirty water below me in a furious down and back
motion. Sprays and mists of water lashed onto my face as a form of payback for disrupting the river s
fluid movement. My eyelids blinked rapidly in an effort to remove the water from my eyes, for I could
not risk letting go of the paddle. The river carried our raft in a rapid up, down, and side to side roller
coaster motion. All of a sudden a mammoth wave sprung up before our eyes, tempting us to stay on
the thin edges of the raft. The six of us ducked into the shallow bed of the raft and screamed in a
combination of both excitement and fear. After it had passed, we quickly popped our heavily saturated
selves back up and continued to obey the shouting commands of our guide. His expertise of the
voyage gave me the reassurance I needed to become comfortable. A natural routine developed, and a
smile played across my lips. A bit of laughter rolled off of my tongue, for I was conquering my

How Did John Deere Make The Cast-Iron Plows
The first real practicable plow was invented by Charles Newbold, and his cast iron version of the plow
was patented in 1797. It was disliked by many farmers in the area because they believed it allowed the
weeds to flourish. As other inventors built new ideas of the plows, these farmers got rid of their former
views and began using the plow. The cast iron plows were good for the light, sandy soils of the East
Coast, but they were very sluggish in the thick soil of Illinois ( Just ). John Deere introduced a tool of
agriculture, the self scouring plow, that would become a booming manufacturing business for many
years to come. John Deere was born in Vermont in 1804 to William and Sarah Deere. His father had
left for England and never returned ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They not only built plows, but began to build and market the Seymour grain drill. Another addition in
1863, the Hawkeye riding cultivator, was the second non plow implement produced. This new
cultivator was the first implement to ride on. Other improvements were made to the plows in the years
to come such as wheels on the plows, an additional moldboard mounted to the frame, and 300 other
small improvements. Joseph Fawkes, the producer of a steam powered plow, joined John Deere and

The Golden Age Of Sports In The Great Gatsby
The Golden Age of Sports
Sports brings out one s talents and achievement. However, sports can be a great way to just have fun.
During the world war one, many people have been unhappy. When the roaring twenties entered their
lives, they all started to have fun. The Golden Age of sports helped people develop their interest in
sports, recognize many sport stars and help develop women involvement in sports. The media
including, the news and radio, helped sports to get exposed. Since the United States had a strong
economy, people could afford to watch games during that time period, (Jeff A.L, Sports in 1920 s,
Roaring Twenties). Massive sports stadiums were built such as the Yankee Stadium and Madison
Square Garden. Everyone started enjoying baseball. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The sports in the 1920 s had a significant connection to the novel, The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott
Fitzgerald. This novel, is about how one s happiness comes from their dream. In The Great Gatsby,
Jordan Baker and Meyer Wolfsheim both have contributed to the sports Era. Jordan Baker is a
wealthy, female athlete, who is also friends with Tom and Daisy. In the novel, Jordan was a well
known golf champion. This connects to women s involvement in the sports. Before this time period,
women did not contribute much to the era as, it was not ladylike to jump, sweat or play, (Jeff A.L,
Sports in 1920 s, Roaring Twenties). However, the talents of women were eventually recognized later
in the era. In the novel, Jordan Baker also becomes a well known female athlete. Achievement also
helps with women status in a society. After achieving, an individual becomes well recognized. For an
example, Nick says in the story, For a while I lost sight of Jordan Baker, and then in midsummer I
found her again. At first I was flattered to go places with her, because she was a golf champion, and
everyone knew her name , (Fitzgerald, 106). This shows how eventually, after a women achieves in
something, she will also have a better reputation in a society. Secondly, Meyer Wolfsheim was an
allusion to Arnold Rothstein. When Gatsby tells Nick about Mr. Wolfsheim, he mentions, He s a
gambler.

Severtseen (1990) cited by Duxbury (2000) applies the term therapeutic communication as the
dialogue between nurse and patient to achieve goals tailored exclusively to the patients needs. In this
case dialogue is used by Mr. Comer in the form of body language and noise to communicate his needs
because of speech loss.
Nelson Jones (1990) states that facial expressions are an intrinsic way to express emotions and eye
contact is one way to show interest. The avoidance in eye contact displayed by Mr. Comer showed his
distinct lack of interest. Compounding these factors was his facial paralysis, which made it especially
difficult for me to ascertain the exact nature of his feelings.
The nurse must be the sender and more importantly the receiver of clear information. Patients with
speech impairment or loss have a more difficult task sending the messages they want and are
sometimes unsuccessful in making themselves understood. (Arnold Boggs 1995).
It appeared to me that Mr. Comer s cough was not only a physiological disorder caused by his
condition, but a way for him to communicate, in this case, his displeasure. Critical analysis of this
experience has pointed to the fact that I have inadequacies in my skills, to identify covert and overt
clues provided by Mr. Comer to his needs. I had focussed too much on the presenting task to feed him,

Importance Of A Setting In The Father, By Thomas King
Importance of a Setting In literature, a story s setting not only creates conflict, but it may also
determine the choices that characters ultimately make, affecting the complications the story may have.
The setting contributes to the plot of three short stories that have been read in class. In The Father,
written by Hugh Garner, one setting is a graveyard that symbolizes a relationship in the plot.
Throughout Borders, by Thomas King, the setting of a border dividing Canada and the US is obvious
with it s symbolism of detachment that is a reoccurring theme in the plot. Alden Nowlan s, the fall of a
city, uses the setting of an attic in contribution to the plot to represent repressed emotional issues the
characters have. A setting introduces details that may not have otherwise been there, creating depth.
The graveyard setting in The Father contributes to the plot by symbolizing the collapse the antagonist
caused to his relationship with his son. The father was at his son s boy scout banquet when he caved
into his vice, alcohol, which caused him to create a scene at the banquet. This scene essentially killed
his relationship with his son. As he hurried after him he wondered if he would ever be able to draw
close to his son again (Garner 35). During the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Island Of Dr. Moreau Religion
Science and Religion in The Island of Dr. Moreau
The Island of Dr. Moreau depicts the dueling concepts between science and religion. Throughout the
Victorian Era within which H.G. Wells novel was written, turmoil between science and religion was at
its peak. New scientific theories were proposed including Darwinism, which H.G. Wells strongly
advocated as witnessed in his book. Many Christians opposed these findings as these new ideas often
disproved what was written in the Bible. Therefore, a divide was created amongst Christians and
scientists, the basis of the material introduced in The Island of Dr. Moreau. Due to opposing conflict
between science and religion, Wells proposes the solution that rules separate humanity from animals.

Wells articles... is whether ordinary people should be allowed to know the facts and should discuss
their implications (Woolf 498). This excerpt is a prime example of the division between science and
religion that was occurring throughout the time period within this book was written. Many people
began to support Wells in his beliefs of scientific principles such as Darwinism. However, there were
those who strongly dejected it and even became hostile that those scientific ideas were available to the
public. The reason the ideas were so easily accessible were because of literary interpretation in
controversial books such as The Island of Dr. Moreau.
One interpretation in The Island of Dr. Moreau was that Moreau is a scientific God. Dr. Moreau and
God display many of the same characteristics when comparing the Bible to H.G. Wells novel. They
are both depicted as invisible, but still there watching. This is shown in The Island of Dr. Moreau as
Wells has written, You cannot see him. But he can see you. Fear the law, (Wells 163). In the Bible a
similar dialog is written, The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good,
(The Holy Bible 378). Both texts also describe the two characters as healing and wounding. In Wells
novel it is written, His is the Hand that

Effects Of Fortunato In The Cask Of Amontillado
The Cask of Amontillado brings us to Italy during the amazing and extravagant time of carnival (Poe
108). With this season comes the fruitful labor of consuming much alcohol and handling oneself in
happiness, freedom, and in acts of udder intoxication. This fact aided in the plot of Montresor to
avenge (Poe 108) the wrongs that had been bestowed upon him by Fortunato, a well known and
respected wine connoisseur (Poe 108). This skill and his pride would end up being the downfall of
Fortunato. Montresor would take full advantage of Fortunato s degraded mental state and decision
making ability, and bring an end to him. As the story progresses the scene turns from one of
enlightenment, to one of gloom and despair as Montresor carries

The Relationship Between Humans and the Environment Essay
The Relationship Between Humans and the Environment
Nearly everything that a human does is in response to the environment. Our lives are defined by what
is around us and what we find in front of us, whether this means accepting, dealing with or changing
it. This has been the pattern since primates first stood up and became Homo erectus, and has continued
until we considered ourselves doubly wise. The shape of the land affected where humans moved.
Weather was something with which to contend. Fire affected humans until they conquered it and
herein lies the core of the relationship. The earth affects humans, and humans affect it back, viewing
characteristics and patterns as problems and challenges, and finding a solution.

The most accepted time for the first use of fire is approximately 200,000 years ago (Science).
However, researchers from the University Rennes in Paris have found evidence of an ancient fireplace
from approximately 465 years ago. If this is confirmed, this would be an incredible find (Science).
What is known is that humans used fire for a variety of purposes, such as agriculture and hunting.
Humans learned that if a forest was cleared of undergrowth, it was easier to hunt for animals in the
forest. In the Australia of 50,000 years ago, there were large animals termed the megafauna that the
indigenous people hunted for food. Soon after humans arrived on the continent, however, the
megafauna disappeared. There are several possible reasons for the extinction. One particularly
dramatic one is that humans extreme use of fire, perhaps uncontrolled, caused the climate to become
more arid, and making it impossible for some megafauna to survive. Possibly, the plants that were
their sustenance were destroyed. Some animals such as a large, emu like bird were hunted to
extinction. (NPR) The climate of most of Australia is still arid.
When undergrowth in a forest was burned away, certain plants were more likely to grow back than
others, and so humans could cause things such as edible bracken to grow in abundance, providing

Control The Rest Analysis
When people hear the word happiness they think of many different things but what we don t really
think of is how do we actually become happy, Do we actually have control over how happy we are?
After reading different articles and watching a couple of Ted Talks I do believe we strongly influence
and control how happy we actually are for example in The Key to Happiness: Partly Genetic, But You
Control The Rest the article talks about genetics and how that affects our level of happiness and how
twins are usually just as happy as the other the article states that genetics are 50% of our happiness
which came from research of twins who were separated at birth The researchers have come up with a
formula that they have used in a number of publications. It s 50 percent genetics. The circumstances
we find ourselves in like where we live, the quality of our love lives, whether we have a few bucks in
the bank account for only about 10 percent. The remaining 40 percent is within our control, how we
think and behave. The article basically states that we do does greatly influence our happiness, even
though half of it comes from our genetics.

amount of satisfaction that we get from buying a new outfit or shoes or any material item to try to hide

have learned to live amongst each other. I ve mentioned which characters I like and dislike, but the
bond that they all have seems pretty legit and not forced onto the screen in front of you.
Unfortunately the ending was pretty poor, I ve heard people mention this and I ll repeat it but, they
basically tell you to your face oh yeah, there will be a second film just so you know , they couldn t
have been more blatant about it! The last 15 minutes were boring for me , where this movie is at it s
best is the start, before the girl comes into it, and some scenes in the middle which I don t want to

be pretty laughable at times, but that s about it.

Steganography Vs. Digital Images
Steganography has been around since 1980 s. Various tools and software s are available for
Steganography as well as Steganalysis. The most common form of steganography is on digital images.
For digital images there exist many steganographic techniques and furthermore there exist a lot of
approaches to detect steganography in digital images. In this paper we will be looking at many tools
comprising from various digital domains but we fund that almost all of the tools had support for image
files. With the increasing number of new steganographic algorithms and methods for detecting
steganography, the issue of comparing security of steganographic schemes in a fair manner is of the
most importance. A fair benchmark for steganography should only ... Show more content on

1. Image steganography
Image steganography has gotten more popular press in recent years than other kinds of steganography,
possibly because of the massive use of electronic image information available with the advent of
digital cameras and high speed Internet distribution. Image steganography often involves hiding
information in the naturally occurring noise within the image and provides a good artwork for such
techniques. Most kinds of information contain some kind of noise. Noise can be described as
unwanted distortion of information within the signal. Within an audio signal, the concept of noise is
obvious. For images, however, noise generally refers to the imperfections inherent in the process of
rendering an analog picture as a digital image. For example, the values of colors in the palette for a
digital image will not only be the exact colors in the real image and the distribution of these colors
will be also be imperfect. The greater the number of bits used to

which way you look at it, it s there. It is especially present in science. Most people don t notice it, they
have to look closer to find out what it is really made of. A component in math that is very prominent in
science is the vector. What is a vector? A vector is a geometric object that has both a magnitude and a
direction. A good example of a vector is wind. 30 MPH north. It has both magnitude,(in this case
speed) and direction. Vectors have specific properties that make them very useful in real life
applications. Through the use of these special objects, many advancements in the fields of math and
science are available. Representations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The equation for the cross product is: . It can also be written as: The easiest way of finding the cross
product is by setting the coordinates up in a 3x3 matrix. A matrix is a way of organizing data. Using i,
j, and k as place holders and using the same two vectors from before, the matrix would look like this:
Now, in order to get the new vector, the determinant has to be found. The work for the determinant is
below: The final vector is a vector that is orthogonal to the other two. This is a good representation of
what it would look like: The cross product is necessary to find the amount of torque or work needed or
used. Other Vectors Null Vector: The null vector is a vector that has the length (magnitude) of 0. It is
written as (0,0,0) and if c is a null vector and a is a normal one, c+a=a. Unit Vector: This vector is
more about direction than magnitude. The unit vector has a magnitude of one, always. Turning a
vector into its unit vector is easy. Just divide the vector by its magnitude. This is called the
normalization of a vector. Adding Vectors Adding vectors is very easy. All that is needed is a
knowledge of trigonometry. Specifically, the law of cosines and the law of sines. To add two vectors,

Darwin s ideas being assimilated into popular culture while Lamarck s work languished in obscurity.
Darwin s theory of Evolution proposed natural selection and adaptation , that an organism could only
change as a result of mutation , a change in the genotype and that mutation had to infer an advantage
in the environment (phenotype) to be selected and therefore passed on. This process according to
Darwin occurred below the level of consciousness [Darwin, 1859]. The organism is in essence
blocked off from its experience, leading to Weismann s idea of a barrier [Weismann, 1885] and the
central view of the genetic paradigm, which is reductionistic .
Lamarck s theory alternatively, is of transformational development, which results from the organism s
experience of its environment [Lamarck, 1809]. Its prerequisite is that of the organism being open to
the experiences of its environment. Interaction occurs at the genetic and environmental levels. Hence
logically leading to the Epigenetic paradigm, which supports the same holistic, arrangements proposed
by Lamarck [Burkhardt, 1977].
Two traditions with developmental implications were influenced as a result of the differing viewpoints
of Darwin and Lamarck; they were Genetic Determination and Epigenesis. Genetic Determination
sees human development as reaching an endpoint ; this is in essence preformational . The environment
is only there to explore where children s natural abilities lie. Development is

Analysis Of I Was Sleeping Where The Black Oaks Move
As a reader, a human, and a creature, what makes one connect to the natural spirit world? Grievances,
mourning, and anger are human emotions, but could these three emotions be used to describe the
natural world of Mother Nature? In 1984, award winning author Louise Erdrick of French Chippewa
descent used personification, imagery, and a theme of unrest for the Native American people and spirit
to craft I Was Sleeping Where the Black Oaks Move. Louise Erdrich was born in Little Falls,
Minnesota, and raised in Wahpeton, North Dakota by her mother, a Chippewa, and father, a German.
The daughter of two Wahpeton Indian School teachers and the granddaughter of the tribal chair for the
Turtle Mountain Chippewa Reservation, Erdrich was bathed in the culture, life, myth, of the

Prions Cause Fatal Neurological Diseases in the Brain of...
Prions cause diseases, but they aren t viruses or bacteria or fungi or parasites, but proteinaceous
infectious particles, an abnormal form of a normally harmless protein found in the brain causing
variety of fatal neurological diseases of both animals and humans. They are the ones that cause the
well known mad cow disease in Britain and Scarpie for animals. Prions act slowly, and are virtually
indestructible.
Prions enter the brain through infection, or they can arise from mutations in the gene that encodes the
protein. When a prion (misfolded form of protein normally present in brain cells) enters a cell with a
normal protein structure, the prion converts the normal protein structures into a misfolded prion
version. Many prions continue to add up forming a complex that converts other protein structures to
prions. When all the prions add up they interfere with normal cellular functions and cause disease
symptoms. Prions can also spread from one organism to another. They can be transmitted in food, as
may occur when people eat prion laden beef from cattle with mad cow disease.
Prion like proteins are normal proteins with similar prion like domains which may also be involved in
diseases of the brain or other organs. Seeded protein aggregation will lead to many more diseases of
the brain. In contrast to prions being simple infection in yeast cells prion forming proteins initiate cell
process such as the central dogma. The prion like proteins may not be widely pathogenic

The Civil Rights Movement By Dennis Chong
The civil rights movement was a time of fighting, fright, and change, and arguably one of the most
important times in history. Many strategies and events have been credited with advancing and
affecting the civil rights movement. Dennis Chong argues that nonviolence was the most effective
strategy used by activists in the civil rights movement (Chong 20). However, Kathleen Hall Jamieson
argues that the civil rights movement was catalyzed ... by eloquent pictures (Jamieson 57 58). With its
power to impact and transform opinions, and change the trajectory of different events, visual art
became a major factor in the civil rights movement. Norman Rockwell s paintings worked to eliminate
the pervasive racial stereotypes, changing the opinions of many Americans and the trajectory of the
civil rights movement as a whole. Many critics argue that nonviolence was the most important
strategy used by civil rights activists to advance their cause. Nonviolence was successfully used by
Mohandas Gandhi during the Indian fight for independence from Great Britain, a success that led this
tactic to be a strong example for civil rights activists. Led by Martin Luther King Jr., civil rights
activists used this tactic to win sympathy for their cause (Alvah). Nonviolence was a social pact
founded on the commitments of each individual to uphold a collective agreement, and thus everyone
who made this pact of nonviolence adhered to it, as they greatly feared the group violence that would

Essay on The Portrayal of Silas Marner
In this essay I aim to discuss the portrayal of Silas Marner in chapters 1, 2 and 14 in the novel.
The story of Silas Marner is about how things can change in time. It also supplies a certain message.
George Elliot wrote the story in
1860. George Elliot was a female and her real name was Marian Evans.
She changed her name because it was difficult for a woman s book to be published. Her story deals
with themes of greed, jealousy and envy.
There are many morals to this story and we can learn a lot about life.

Their presence was only a mirage.
Silas Marner then became very lonely, Loneliness, Deserted, because as well as losing his fiancé and

The Vocal Folds Of The Larynx
Introduction:
The larynx is the part of the respiratory system that contains the vocal folds, and is responsible for the
creation of sound. The larynx sits on top of the trachea or windpipe, which allows for air to pass to
and from the lungs when the body inhales and exhales. Positioned at the upper opening of the larynx
are two mucous membranes that make up the vocal folds or glottis. The vocal folds consist of twin
flaps of cartilage, on average two to four centimeters long, in the shape of a V that vibrate together
when air passes through the trachea. They work together with the resonating chambers in the head,
like the nose and mouth, to create sound. This process is known as phonation, ...The phonation

Honey is a common household food item with many medicinal properties, and is a hypertonic
osmotic. The goal of osmosis is to bring substances with a high concentration of particles to a lower
concentration and equalize both solvents on either side. A hypertonic osmotic is a substance that is
able to draw decrease the concentration of fluid in cells through osmosis due to the higher
concentration of pressure outside the cells, than inside the cells. The significant amount of sugar
present in honey is what raises pressure to draw any leakage out of enlarged cells. The antibacterial
property of honey was first recognized in 1892 by Van Ketel. It has often been assumed that this is due
entirely to the osmotic effect of its high sugar content. Honey, like other saturated sugar syrups and
sugar pastes, has an osmolarity sufficient to inhibit microbial growth (Molan. 2001) . The osmotic
nature of honey draws excess fluid out of inflamed or infected cells. The Goal of this experiment is to
identify the impact of honey and water on vocal range. Through measuring the difference between the
total number of musical notes sung by participants before exposure to the dependent variable (honey
water mixture); and after, the effectiveness of honey water will be demonstrated. The measurable
results of this experiment are the starting vocal ranges of each subject tested, the experimental results
of the subjects vocal ranges after drinking the honey water mixture, and the

Windy City Racial Profiling Is An Act Of Discrimination Essay
WINDY CITY RACIAL PROFILING 1
Windy City Racial Profiling
Edin Hodzic
Loyola University Chicago
Introduction Racial profiling is an act of discrimination committed by law enforcement officials in
which they target certain individuals with the suspicion of a crime due to their race, religion, and
culture. In racial profiling, individuals are suspected of committing a crime solely because of their
appearance, which is associated to stereotypes of their people committing crimes. I believe this is a
huge problem in Chicago because many minorities in Chicago especially those in underdeveloped
neighborhoods are affected by this. Not only is racial profiling unlawful, it goes against what our
nations constitution is supposed to protect us from. The amendments are there to protect us. Racial
profiling violates our 4th amendment right, which protects us from unreasonable searches and
seizures. I?d say that being harassed and making the assumption that someone has committed a
wrongdoing based on their physical features and background would fall under being a very
unreasonable act. My goal with this paper is to shed some light on a view from the past on how racial
profiling became an issue and how it is still an issue around the country including Chicago. This paper
will also include what I believe to be solutions to this growing issue.
Historical Perspective How long ago did racial profiling come to be? Many believe that the concept of

The goal of the students is to make recommendations about the highway. The project requires complex
decision making from the students. The simulation has four stages: in the first three stages, students
explore the information provided to them on a CD ROM. The CD ROM contains a simulation of a
deliberation over the highway project. Students are to discuss and debrief and record their
experiences. In the final stage, students need to organize a press conference. De Carlo believes these
simulations help students identify their emotions and the emotions of others, and use them as a
foundation to understanding negotiation.
In teaching through a paradox, de Carlo explains that we must rethink of the classroom as a
transitional space described as a place of creation and analysis. This space is intended to develop
coping skills in students who find negotiating frustrated. The professor serves as a mentor to facilitate
learning new ideas and skills with the aim of helping [students] be more effective in negotiation and
creative in life (355). However, de Carlo notes that authority should be present in classroom dynamics
while teaching through paradox. According to de Carlo, authority cannot be negotiated, but needs to

and the students to acknowledge recognition and respect, but also identify emotional cues needed

The American Dream Of The Poer V, Volar, By Langston Hughes
The short story Volar by Judith Ortiz Cofer, and the poem Harlem by Langston Hughes share a
common theme which is the elusive American dream, thus, compared to a pot of gold for migrants.
There are several ideas that pertain to elusive American dream of both the short story and the poem.
First, in Volar, a family migrated from Puerto Rico to New Jersey to seek opportunities and better life
conditions. Similarly, in Harlem, it speaks about African Americans who migrated from the South to
the North for better working conditions. Secondly, in Volar, the reality of how hard to attain the
American dream is evident as the story described the living conditions in their tiny apartment. In a like
manner, the poem Harlem expresses the devastation in the truth that American dream of African
Americans is unattainable. Lastly, both the short story and the poem have a message of hardship
contrary to their expectations once settled in the place of what they thought to be the end of the
rainbow. Furthermore, some similarities and differences of figurative languages are used in both the
short story and the poem. For the similarities, in Volar, the author used similes, allusion and repetition
of significant words which reinforce the theme. The similes are Supergirl comic books in my bedroom

allusions refer to Legion of Super Heroes and Supergirl comic books, the mention of Puerto

Concentration Of Acid-Base Titration
Acid Base titration is defined as using a solution of known concentration and volume to find the
concentration of a solution with known volume but unknown concentration. Acid Base titration can be
used when mixing strong acids and strong bases because strong acids and bases neutralize each other.
Phenolphthalein indicators, substances that change color based on pH, can be used to determine when
the titration is complete and when both of the solutions are neutralized. In this experiment, Acid Base
titration will be used to determine the concentration of 10mL of an HCl solution by adding a known
volume 0.1003 M NaOH solution using a buret. The chemical equation for this reaction is
NaOH(aq)+HCl(aq) → NaCl(aq)+H2O(l). Because the moles of NaOH equals the moles of HCl, the
number of moles of NaOH that are added to the solution in order to neutralize it will equal the moles
of HCl in the solution. The number of moles of NaOH added to the solution will be used to determine
the moles of HCl, which will then be used to determine the molarity of the HCl solution by dividing
the number of moles of HCl by the volume of HCl, according to the formula:
Moles/Volume=Molarity.
Results
The average HCl molarity was found to be 0.090 M. Our actual values were 0.091, 0.091, and 0.089.
These molarities were found according to the formula mass/volume=molarity. For example, 0.089 was
found by dividing the moles of NaOH added to the solution (8.9x10 4) by the volume of HCl

The Old Saying “Beauty Is In The Eye Of The Beholder” Has
The old saying beauty is in the eye of the beholder has always been the ideal of what society believes
beauty to be; versatile and able to be interpreted as anyone likes because it is something that is unique
to every person s own taste. This sentiment, as true as it may seem, is just an illusion. Oxford
Dictionaries may define beauty as a combination of qualities, such as shape, colour, or form, that
pleases the aesthetic senses, especially the sight , which seems vague enough to be interpreted any
way someone wishes, yet society has been imposing strict standards onto what is deemed beautiful for

Jack Russell Terrier Essay
PARSON RUSSELL TERRIER (JACK RUSSELL TERRIER)
ORIGIN AND HISTORY
This breed was developed in England in the mid 1800s by a clergyman, Reverend John Russell. Rev.
Russell was an avid enthusiast of fox hunting and wanted to develop a dog that would go to ground
after the fox and flush it from its hole so the hunt could continue. Size was of the utmost importance to
Rev. Russell as the dog had to keep up with the foxhounds. The ideal height of his terriers at the
shoulders was 15 . After Rev. Russell s death, a short legged, long bodied dog with prick ears and a
smooth coat came to be known as the Jack Russell terrier and it was that dog that was brought to
America. In 1990 the breed was established in England as the Parson Jack Russell terrier and adopted
the standard desired by Rev. Russell of a muscular, narrow chested dog, 12 15 inches in height.
In 1985, the Jack Russell Terrier Breeders Association was formed to re establish the original type

Examples Of Metatheory
There are many metatheoretical traditions that have influenced modern social sciences as we know it
today. This essay critically compares the two different concepts such as objectivity and neutrality in
various educational theories and systems such as: Missionary education, Apartheid education, Post
Apartheid education, Revised National Curriculum Statement (RNCS) and Curriculum Assessment
Policy Statement (CAPS). We discuss the applications of these two seemingly different concepts and
their application in different educational theories such as: Constructivism, behaviorism and social
cognition. Furthermore, we discuss objectivity and neutrality in various educational contexts. I will
attempt to show that education cannot be neutral if the objectives are politically and economically
driven.
Defining metatheory
Metatheory is the study aimed at understanding the nature of social inquiry (Babbie Mouton, 1998).
There are different names for metatheory such as: metascience, philosophy of science and the

Native Americans And The War On Natives
Imagine living in one place your whole life, that place is the only place you know. Now imagine
people you have never seen before come, kill your family, spread disease, and take the land for
themselves. That is what happened to the Native Americans in the 1700 s and 1800 s. One of the most
disrespectful and saddest times in American History was in the 1850 s with Westward Expansion and
the war on Natives. During that time, there were many new cities being built in the East and the
United States inevitably got too crowded in the East. Americans traveled west for more land and
opportunity, but this is where most of the Indians were living at the time. Did the Native Americans
have an aggressive nature, or did the Whites cause them to be hostile? The Whites greed almost
caused the extinction of Native Americans and caused them to become hostile towards the Whites.
With the Industrial Revolution going on, the world s population was growing rapidly with all the new
medicine, technology, and agriculture being invented. America seem especially appealing because the
country was so young with many opportunities. With all the new immigrants, the adventure seekers
traveled west in search of new experiences. This is called Westward Expansion. They found new
plants, animals, and gold. Everything was perfect for the White men except one thing, the inhabitants
of this wonderful land. The Natives were seen as dirty, and behind in technology. The Whites also

Often the mom will realize he isn t the best person in the world to be a dad, so she doesn t push the
issue. Child support is a problem, since most young dads, like the mom, are still in school or not
making very much at work. There are some great teen dads out there but unfortunately, they are few
and far between.
If the mom decides to stay with her parents, she deals with relationship issues on this front too. All to
often grandparents want to take over. How can they not? It s extremely hard to step back and let your
teen parent another child while you know they re so young, especially if the parenting styles they have
aren t what the grandparents practiced on their own children. Babysitting, parenting styles, doubting
the ability of the teen. All these can truly affect a teen mom in a negative way.
Finishing school and working to support a baby is also a big problem. In today s world, a college
degree is almost a must for any good paying job. A high school education is even more important. If a
teen mom still has to go to school and work, she has very little time to be a mother. The worst part of
it all, is that usually, that s what a teen mom really wants to be. Most teen moms don t want to be part
of the statistics. They don t want to be looked down on. They do want to take care of their child, or
children, in hopes that they grow up to be strong people. They also want to show the world that they
can be a good parent. It s just too bad that society

The company I pick from S amp;P 500 is Google Inc., which is a multinational corporation
specializing in internet related service and products. Google has been estimated to be a rapidly
growing global technology leader focused on improving the way people connect with information, and
its trading stock price is remained really high and still on the rise.
The expected sales are given by Capital IQ from year 2014 to year 2018, and their values are listed
below in the table. By calculating the average growth rate of sales over next five years, which is
12.8%, and have it compared with the one from the previous three years, which is 25.8%, it can be
concluded that the projected sales value given by Capital IQ are reasonable. The average ... Show

With the cost of equity capital and effective cost of debt capital, we can calculated WACC using
formula E*re/V+D*rd/V, which is 98.36%*9.254%+1.64*2.776%=9.15% (Appendix D). After getting
long run growth rate and WACC, we can find the terminal value: Vn=40365*(1+2%)9.15%
2%=550,766
Then, the present value of free cash flows can be calculated based on the discount rate (Appendix B).
According to Appendix E, the market value of equity is $484,185 million and the stock price is
$1,183.04, while its intrinsic value of stock is $1,440.81.
I choose the mean of TEV/EBITDA and the median of TEV/Revenue as multiples to estimate Google
s stock price (Appendix F). By applying the mean value of TEV/EBITDA to find enterprise value, we
can get a corresponding intrinsic value per share of $1,248.06. By applying the median value of
TEV/Revenue, we get the corresponding intrinsic value per share of $1,231.04 (Appendix F). Both of
the value calculated by using multiples are a little bit lower than the one from Part 1. Many completed
variable involved in two different ways of obtaining the stock price, which will in turn cause
differences in result for sure.
I believe the way which using DCF method to get the total enterprise value and then to find the
corresponding stock price give the best estimate of Google s stock price. By reaching that, I first use
the average EBITDA/Sales ratio from the past three years as a constant ratio to project the future five

A Last Look At The Battle Of The Sexes
A Last Look at the Battle of the Sexes
The course readings have been an insightful and thought provoking look into evolutionary psychology
and the biological differences between the sexes and the extent to which some of those differences are
nothing but social constructs. Evolutionary psychology and genetics are both fascinating and in this
respect I found Adam s Curse: A Future Without Men by Bryan Sykes and The Moral Animal by
Robert Wright the most influential and thought provoking. The illusionary nature of social constructs
and the misleading messages they give us about gender roles was also beautifully illustrated in Pink
Brain Blue Brain by Lise Eliot and Woman: An Intimate Geography, by Nathalie Angier. The Trouble

The readings, especially Sapolsky s essays in The Trouble with Testosterone, showed me that this link
may not necessarily exist. In other words, our gender specific behavior is not hormonally derived,
such as male aggression being assumed to be an effect of high testosterone. This classic nature versus
nurture problem came up in other course readings but Sapolsky s witty, accessible, clear writing style
likely had much to do with making it all stick in my thoughts. It made me ponder how much of our
behavior is really biologically programmed and how much of it is a product, instead, of social
programming deliberate or otherwise. The arguments set forth in Pink Brain Blue Brain took Sapolsky
s restrained observations further, suggesting that small genetic differences between the sexes grow
larger and larger with maturity due to social conditioning. On the other hand, Eliot argues, wouldn t it
be better if boys were able to freely acquire beneficial feminine traits such as nurturing qualities, and
girls could freely acquire beneficial masculine traits such as being adept at mathematics or to speak
bluntly and directly. However, she stops short of condemning all differences between the sexes and I
think that was a good decision on her part because, as The Moral Animal

Three Key Elements Of Becoming A Nurse Practitioner
Have you ever closed your eyes and your dreams painted a miraculous picture that it seemed too good
to be true ? I close my eyes and I picture myself with a crisp cotton white lab coat with a burgundy
stethoscope draped over my shoulders. The patient in front of me hears the clicking sound of my pen
as I scribble a prescription down on my clipboard. My dream is to become a Nurse Practitioner that
specializes in Forensics after I graduate with my Bachelor of Nursing degree. In order, for someone to
make their dreams come true, they need three key elements which are perseverance, determination and
ambition. I posses all of these characteristics so, I know my dreams will come true. During turmoil,
dreams seem untouchable, which can cause

an affordable DIY fast food steakhouse with more than 200 outlets in Japan and other Asian countries
as wells as in Australia. Pepper Lunch promises a dynamic and fresh culinary experience for everyone
by presenting the novel concept of a sizzling steak. Pepper Lunch is the new wave of fast food style.
Our original iron dish and technology of heating is sure to generate a revolution in the fast food

* Change in economic situations of people * Unwillingness of the US population to cater to this new
concept and the taste of the food * The hot iron plates may potentially cause injuries to customers if
they do not follow the given instructions. 2.3 Competition Currently in the USA, this is brand new
concept so there is very little direct competition. One can however compare it to an actual Japanese
Steakhouse but that will not be a threat because Pepper Lunch is selling the concept of Fast Steak and
Do It Yourself Steaks. If we talk about fast food there will be competition from local favorites like,

Tobio s Astro Boy
after what they are interested in. If it were not for the viewer knowing that Astro Boy is a robot, one
would not to be able to tell that he is any different than a real boy. Furthermore, in regards to him
showing feelings, a key indicator of a soul, it is present throughout the first episode how much he
cares about his creator/father. Astro Boy as a whole is created for the primary purpose of replacing
Tobio, who is the dead son of Dr. Tenma. As a result, he does anything he can into reassuring
Dr.Tenma that he is Tobio, whether if it means eating real food, when he technically can not taste or
enjoy it, or trying to fit in as a regular boy. Astro Boy brings truth to the concept of doing whatever

Moreover, robots have one to several jobs, that they try to accomplish without any attachment or
effects whatsoever to them in return. However, in Astro Boy s case his job is to serve as a
replacement, yet he does get emotionally effected by this when he fails or when Dr. Tenma is not
happy with him. In the beginning, all Tobio wanted from his father was his love and affection. To
simply be noticed or spent time with, is all Tobio desired. Similarly all Astro Boy wanted was to
please his father or to be accepted by him, yet too was let down. As a result Tobio was sadden by this
as it is normal for a human to feel this in response to rejection, especially when a boy receives this
from his father. However, Astro Boy, a robot, follows in his footsteps as it becomes visible that he is
emotionally hurt by this rejection as well. For instances, there is a scene on the ship in episode 1
where Astro Boy makes a mess of things at dinner and Dr, Tenma retaliates on him in anger (18.10).
Two things can be taken away from this scene, first the fact that in immediate response of witnessing
the anger, Astro Boy says I m very sorry dad.

Blue Collar Worker Research Paper
America the young and the beautiful, the great and the wise, the most powerful and dominate country
in the world. As every individual always wanted to have the American dream, working, making
money and having a long joyful life and also supporting their loved ones. That once was a dream for
most Americans but it seems like their dreams are fading faintly away. In America, you have the white
collar workers and the blue collar workers. With this type of division of workers tell a tale of
sovereignty and submission. As one of the people, main views of a white collar worker are working in
big buildings, working in offices, having a professional attire accordingly to the job. On the other hand

Most workers have to take skill trades to gain the skills to work with these type of jobs. Otherwise, as
finding a profession of being a white collar worker, people will have to go to college to gain a huge
amount of knowledge in order to get the job. People being in a huge part of the blue collar workforce
are the middle and lower class in America. But in recent matters, this have been a decline in America.
Every since the middle of the 2000 decade, Jobs for middle and lower class started to depreciate. It
was a major crisis in America, millions of people who work starting to lose their jobs. It hit the hardest
when the automotive industry started to lay off workers and also closing up factories and sending
them to other countries such as China. The pain of every single individual felt was the end. In 2008
the recession came and blew threw millions of unemployed Americans. At the time it was one of the
worst economic crashes since the great depression. As being one of the millions of families being

In general, I think Deloitte Consulting is a great company to be at. It s a real fratty culture, people are
always active and you meet some of your really great friends. That said, it really depends what your
goals are. I think starting out at Deloitte Consulting is a great place. You get some good training, some
client exposure and can see friends across the country with alternative travel. If you have a family and
you re traveling every week, it can be a real drag and perhaps it s not the optimal place. I think the
happiest people were Analysts and Principals. I started at Deloitte Consulting, straight out of school. I
think though, part of it comes down to a lot of luck. If you re flying to nobody vile Montana every
week, with a skimpy expense budget and needing to work on Sundays for some integration testing,
yea it s not great. If you re flying every week to San Diego to do some exciting new pursuit with a
healthy expense budget working only the requisite 8 6, it rocks. Also, there s not as much latitude in
what you re doing. For example, if you want to do Media work, but Deloitte thinks you re a real
utilities guy, then you re a utilities guy, but honestly, I don t think this is true just for Deloitte, I think
that s true at any consulting firm. You re going to go where you add the most value,

  • 2. Buddist Diet Research Paper I am atheist, and I chose Buddhist dietary to follow because I am living with my aunt who is a truly Buddhist and I also wanted to try a new flavor. On Thursday, October 15th, I told my aunt that I wanted to follow Buddist diet for one day because my aunt usually cooks diet meal for her, so this was the amazing experience for me because I have never tried to eat Buddist dietary since I came to the United States. My aunt was kind of surprised about my decision because she has never seen me eat diet meal before, so she was quite questionable about my decision. However, she still cooked two meals for me which were brunch, and dinner. For my brunch, I had bodhi leaf noodle which was the noodle that has the flavor like bodhi leaf. It was really ... • 3. My First White Water Fracking Expedition The excitement of my first whitewater rafting expedition soon evaporated, like an elusive dream. The rolling, brown waves played a dangerous game of leapfrog before me, turning white for a brief second before crashing down as their turn concluded. The overpowering roar of the water almost drowned out the shouting voices of the sun kissed guides. Grab a life jacket and a helmet! Then go by a raft! Hurry it up, let s move! Feeling not quite as prepared as I would have liked, I was nonetheless ushered onto a blue raft. We were told to shove one foot under the inflatable seat in front of us in order to not capsize during the excursion. An increasing numbness crept up my leg as my foot began to throb, diverting my attention for only a moment. The high pitched squeals and yells of those already meandering down the river snapped me out of my daze as I looked around to assure that my largest fear had not come true for someone else. Sprays and mists of water lashed onto my face as a form of payback for disrupting the river s fluid movement. My eyelids blinked rapidly in an effort to remove the water from my eyes, for I could not risk letting go of the paddle. The river carried our raft in a rapid up, down, and side to side roller coaster motion. All of a sudden a mammoth wave sprung up before our eyes, tempting us to stay on the thin edges of the raft. The six of us ducked into the shallow bed of the raft and screamed in a combination of both excitement and fear. After it had passed, we quickly popped our heavily saturated selves back up and continued to obey the shouting commands of our guide. His expertise of the voyage gave me the reassurance I needed to become comfortable. A natural routine developed, and a smile played across my lips. • 4. How Did John Deere Make The Cast-Iron Plows The first real practicable plow was invented by Charles Newbold, and his cast iron version of the plow was patented in 1797. It was disliked by many farmers in the area because they believed it allowed the weeds to flourish. As other inventors built new ideas of the plows, these farmers got rid of their former views and began using the plow. The cast iron plows were good for the light, sandy soils of the East Coast, but they were very sluggish in the thick soil of Illinois ( Just ). John Deere introduced a tool of agriculture, the self scouring plow, that would become a booming manufacturing business for many years to come. • 5. The Golden Age Of Sports In The Great Gatsby The Golden Age of Sports Sports brings out one s talents and achievement. However, sports can be a great way to just have fun. During the world war one, many people have been unhappy. When the roaring twenties entered their lives, they all started to have fun. The Golden Age of sports helped people develop their interest in sports, recognize many sport stars and help develop women involvement in sports. The media including, the news and radio, helped sports to get exposed. Since the United States had a strong economy, people could afford to watch games during that time period, (Jeff A.L, Sports in 1920 s, Roaring Twenties). Massive sports stadiums were built such as the Yankee Stadium and Madison Square Garden. Everyone started enjoying baseball. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The sports in the 1920 s had a significant connection to the novel, The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald. This novel, is about how one s happiness comes from their dream. In The Great Gatsby, Jordan Baker and Meyer Wolfsheim both have contributed to the sports Era. Jordan Baker is a wealthy, female athlete, who is also friends with Tom and Daisy. In the novel, Jordan was a well known golf champion. This connects to women s involvement in the sports. Before this time period, women did not contribute much to the era as, it was not ladylike to jump, sweat or play, (Jeff A.L, Sports in 1920 s, Roaring Twenties). However, the talents of women were eventually recognized later in the era. In the novel, Jordan Baker also becomes a well known female athlete. Achievement also helps with women status in a society. After achieving, an individual becomes well recognized. For an example, Nick says in the story, For a while I lost sight of Jordan Baker, and then in midsummer I found her again. At first I was flattered to go places with her, because she was a golf champion, and everyone knew her name , (Fitzgerald, 106). This shows how eventually, after a women achieves in something, she will also have a better reputation in a society. Secondly, Meyer Wolfsheim was an allusion to Arnold Rothstein. When Gatsby tells Nick about Mr. Wolfsheim, he mentions, He s a gambler. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Severtseen (1990) cited by Duxbury (2000) applies the term therapeutic communication as the dialogue between nurse and patient to achieve goals tailored exclusively to the patients needs. In this case dialogue is used by Mr. Comer in the form of body language and noise to communicate his needs because of speech loss. Nelson Jones (1990) states that facial expressions are an intrinsic way to express emotions and eye contact is one way to show interest. The avoidance in eye contact displayed by Mr. Comer showed his distinct lack of interest. Compounding these factors was his facial paralysis, which made it especially difficult for me to ascertain the exact nature of his feelings. The nurse must be the sender and more importantly the receiver of clear information. Patients with speech impairment or loss have a more difficult task sending the messages they want and are sometimes unsuccessful in making themselves understood. (Arnold Boggs 1995). It appeared to me that Mr. Comer s cough was not only a physiological disorder caused by his condition, but a way for him to communicate, in this case, his displeasure. Critical analysis of this experience has pointed to the fact that I have inadequacies in my skills, to identify covert and overt clues provided by Mr. Comer to his needs. I had focussed too much on the presenting task to feed him,

  • 8. Importance Of A Setting In The Father, By Thomas King Importance of a Setting In literature, a story s setting not only creates conflict, but it may also determine the choices that characters ultimately make, affecting the complications the story may have. The setting contributes to the plot of three short stories that have been read in class. In The Father, written by Hugh Garner, one setting is a graveyard that symbolizes a relationship in the plot. Throughout Borders, by Thomas King, the setting of a border dividing Canada and the US is obvious with it s symbolism of detachment that is a reoccurring theme in the plot. Alden Nowlan s, the fall of a city, uses the setting of an attic in contribution to the plot to represent repressed emotional issues the characters have. A setting introduces details that may not have otherwise been there, creating depth. The graveyard setting in The Father contributes to the plot by symbolizing the collapse the antagonist caused to his relationship with his son. The father was at his son s boy scout banquet when he caved into his vice, alcohol, which caused him to create a scene at the banquet. This scene essentially killed his relationship with his son. As he hurried after him he wondered if he would ever be able to draw close to his son again (Garner 35). During the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout the Victorian Era within which H.G. Wells novel was written, turmoil between science and religion was at its peak. New scientific theories were proposed including Darwinism, which H.G. Wells strongly advocated as witnessed in his book. Many Christians opposed these findings as these new ideas often disproved what was written in the Bible. Therefore, a divide was created amongst Christians and scientists, the basis of the material introduced in The Island of Dr. Moreau. This excerpt is a prime example of the division between science and religion that was occurring throughout the time period within this book was written. Many people began to support Wells in his beliefs of scientific principles such as Darwinism. However, there were those who strongly dejected it and even became hostile that those scientific ideas were available to the public. The reason the ideas were so easily accessible were because of literary interpretation in controversial books such as The Island of Dr. Moreau. One interpretation in The Island of Dr. Moreau was that Moreau is a scientific God. Dr. Moreau and God display many of the same characteristics when comparing the Bible to H.G. Wells novel. They are both depicted as invisible, but still there watching. This is shown in The Island of Dr. Moreau as Wells has written, You cannot see him. But he can see you. Fear the law, (Wells 163). Our lives are defined by what is around us and what we find in front of us, whether this means accepting, dealing with or changing it. This has been the pattern since primates first stood up and became Homo erectus, and has continued until we considered ourselves doubly wise. The shape of the land affected where humans moved. Weather was something with which to contend. Fire affected humans until they conquered it and herein lies the core of the relationship. The most accepted time for the first use of fire is approximately 200,000 years ago (Science). However, researchers from the University Rennes in Paris have found evidence of an ancient fireplace from approximately 465 years ago. If this is confirmed, this would be an incredible find (Science). What is known is that humans used fire for a variety of purposes, such as agriculture and hunting. Humans learned that if a forest was cleared of undergrowth, it was easier to hunt for animals in the forest. In the Australia of 50,000 years ago, there were large animals termed the megafauna that the indigenous people hunted for food. Soon after humans arrived on the continent, however, the megafauna disappeared. There are several possible reasons for the extinction. One particularly dramatic one is that humans extreme use of fire, perhaps uncontrolled, caused the climate to become more arid, and making it impossible for some megafauna to survive. Possibly, the plants that were their sustenance were destroyed. Some animals such as a large, emu like bird were hunted to extinction. (NPR) The climate of most of Australia is still arid. When undergrowth in a forest was burned away, certain plants were more likely to grow back than others, and so humans could cause things such as edible bracken to grow in abundance, providing ... Most people don t notice it, they have to look closer to find out what it is really made of. A component in math that is very prominent in science is the vector. What is a vector? A vector is a geometric object that has both a magnitude and a direction. A good example of a vector is wind. 30 MPH north. It has both magnitude,(in this case speed) and direction. This process according to Darwin occurred below the level of consciousness [Darwin, 1859]. The organism is in essence blocked off from its experience, leading to Weismann s idea of a barrier [Weismann, 1885] and the central view of the genetic paradigm, which is reductionistic . Lamarck s theory alternatively, is of transformational development, which results from the organism s experience of its environment [Lamarck, 1809]. Grievances, mourning, and anger are human emotions, but could these three emotions be used to describe the natural world of Mother Nature? In 1984, award winning author Louise Erdrick of French Chippewa descent used personification, imagery, and a theme of unrest for the Native American people and spirit to craft I Was Sleeping Where the Black Oaks Move. Prions cause diseases, but they aren t viruses or bacteria or fungi or parasites, but proteinaceous infectious particles, an abnormal form of a normally harmless protein found in the brain causing variety of fatal neurological diseases of both animals and humans. They are the ones that cause the well known mad cow disease in Britain and Scarpie for animals. Prions act slowly, and are virtually indestructible. Prions enter the brain through infection, or they can arise from mutations in the gene that encodes the protein. When a prion (misfolded form of protein normally present in brain cells) enters a cell with a normal protein structure, the prion converts the normal protein structures into a misfolded prion version. Many prions continue to add up forming a complex that converts other protein structures to prions. When all the prions add up they interfere with normal cellular functions and cause disease symptoms. Prions can also spread from one organism to another. They can be transmitted in food, as may occur when people eat prion laden beef from cattle with mad cow disease. Prion like proteins are normal proteins with similar prion like domains which may also be involved in diseases of the brain or other organs. Seeded protein aggregation will lead to many more diseases of the brain. In contrast to prions being simple infection in yeast cells prion forming proteins initiate cell process such as the central dogma. The prion like proteins may not be widely pathogenic ... Many critics argue that nonviolence was the most important strategy used by civil rights activists to advance their cause. Nonviolence was successfully used by Mohandas Gandhi during the Indian fight for independence from Great Britain, a success that led this tactic to be a strong example for civil rights activists. Led by Martin Luther King Jr., civil rights activists used this tactic to win sympathy for their cause (Alvah). The significant amount of sugar present in honey is what raises pressure to draw any leakage out of enlarged cells. The antibacterial property of honey was first recognized in 1892 by Van Ketel. There are several ideas that pertain to elusive American dream of both the short story and the poem. First, in Volar, a family migrated from Puerto Rico to New Jersey to seek opportunities and better life conditions. • 35. Concentration Of Acid-Base Titration Acid Base titration is defined as using a solution of known concentration and volume to find the concentration of a solution with known volume but unknown concentration. Acid Base titration can be used when mixing strong acids and strong bases because strong acids and bases neutralize each other. Phenolphthalein indicators, substances that change color based on pH, can be used to determine when the titration is complete and when both of the solutions are neutralized. In this experiment, Acid Base titration will be used to determine the concentration of 10mL of an HCl solution by adding a known volume 0.1003 M NaOH solution using a buret. The chemical equation for this reaction is NaOH(aq)+HCl(aq) → NaCl(aq)+H2O(l). Because the moles of NaOH equals the moles of HCl, the number of moles of NaOH that are added to the solution in order to neutralize it will equal the moles of HCl in the solution. The number of moles of NaOH added to the solution will be used to determine the moles of HCl, which will then be used to determine the molarity of the HCl solution by dividing the number of moles of HCl by the volume of HCl, according to the formula: Moles/Volume=Molarity. Results The average HCl molarity was found to be 0.090 M. Our actual values were 0.091, 0.091, and 0.089. These molarities were found according to the formula mass/volume=molarity. Defining metatheory Metatheory is the study aimed at understanding the nature of social inquiry (Babbie Mouton, 1998). There are different names for metatheory such as: metascience, philosophy of science and the epistemology of science (Babbie Mouton, 1998). According to Babbie and Mouton metatheory has a three world s framework: world one inquires about the nature of society and human conduct, world two aims to understand social inquiry and then lastly world three the methodologies used in understanding the ... • 40. Native Americans And The War On Natives Imagine living in one place your whole life, that place is the only place you know. Now imagine people you have never seen before come, kill your family, spread disease, and take the land for themselves. That is what happened to the Native Americans in the 1700 s and 1800 s. One of the most disrespectful and saddest times in American History was in the 1850 s with Westward Expansion and the war on Natives. During that time, there were many new cities being built in the East and the United States inevitably got too crowded in the East. Americans traveled west for more land and opportunity, but this is where most of the Indians were living at the time. Did the Native Americans have an aggressive nature, or did the Whites cause them to be hostile? The Whites greed almost caused the extinction of Native Americans and caused them to become hostile towards the Whites. With the Industrial Revolution going on, the world s population was growing rapidly with all the new medicine, technology, and agriculture being invented. America seem especially appealing because the country was so young with many opportunities. With all the new immigrants, the adventure seekers traveled west in search of new experiences. This is called Westward Expansion. They found new plants, animals, and gold. Everything was perfect for the White men except one thing, the inhabitants of this wonderful land. The Natives were seen as dirty, and behind in technology. The Whites also wanted the land for themselves. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Teen Parenting Essay Why Teen Parenting should be delayed? Raising a child isn t an easy thing to do. Raising a child while the parents are still in their teens is even harder. Dealing with the day to day chores that involves a baby and trying to work and get an education is very stressful on any teen. Teen Parenting should be delayed because it is very difficult to handle, some can t handle it. One of my friends is a teen mom, and she wouldn t wish a teen pregnancy on any teen. Trying to work, go to school, raise a baby and still having some growing up to do is nowhere near easy. Dealing with a checkbook, a husband, a newborn, a job and finishing school at sixteen was hard. Often the mom will realize he isn t the best person in the world to be a dad, so she doesn t push the issue. Child support is a problem, since most young dads, like the mom, are still in school or not making very much at work. There are some great teen dads out there but unfortunately, they are few and far between. If the mom decides to stay with her parents, she deals with relationship issues on this front too. All to often grandparents want to take over. How can they not? It s extremely hard to step back and let your teen parent another child while you know they re so young, especially if the parenting styles they have aren t what the grandparents practiced on their own children. Babysitting, parenting styles, doubting the ability of the teen. All these can truly affect a teen mom in a negative way. Finishing school and working to support a baby is also a big problem. In today s world, a college degree is almost a must for any good paying job. A high school education is even more important. If a teen mom still has to go to school and work, she has very little time to be a mother. The worst part of it all, is that usually, that s what a teen mom really wants to be. Most teen moms don t want to be part of the statistics. They don t want to be looked down on. They do want to take care of their child, or children, in hopes that they grow up to be strong people. They also want to show the world that they can be a good parent. It s just too bad that society ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. A Last Look At The Battle Of The Sexes A Last Look at the Battle of the Sexes The course readings have been an insightful and thought provoking look into evolutionary psychology and the biological differences between the sexes and the extent to which some of those differences are nothing but social constructs. Evolutionary psychology and genetics are both fascinating and in this respect I found Adam s Curse: A Future Without Men by Bryan Sykes and The Moral Animal by Robert Wright the most influential and thought provoking. The illusionary nature of social constructs and the misleading messages they give us about gender roles was also beautifully illustrated in Pink Brain Blue Brain by Lise Eliot and Woman: An Intimate Geography, by Nathalie Angier. The Trouble with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The readings, especially Sapolsky s essays in The Trouble with Testosterone, showed me that this link may not necessarily exist. In other words, our gender specific behavior is not hormonally derived, such as male aggression being assumed to be an effect of high testosterone. This classic nature versus nurture problem came up in other course readings but Sapolsky s witty, accessible, clear writing style likely had much to do with making it all stick in my thoughts. It made me ponder how much of our behavior is really biologically programmed and how much of it is a product, instead, of social programming deliberate or otherwise. The arguments set forth in Pink Brain Blue Brain took Sapolsky s restrained observations further, suggesting that small genetic differences between the sexes grow larger and larger with maturity due to social conditioning. On the other hand, Eliot argues, wouldn t it be better if boys were able to freely acquire beneficial feminine traits such as nurturing qualities, and girls could freely acquire beneficial masculine traits such as being adept at mathematics or to speak bluntly and directly. However, she stops short of condemning all differences between the sexes and I think that was a good decision on her part because, as The Moral Animal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, in Astro Boy s case his job is to serve as a replacement, yet he does get emotionally effected by this when he fails or when Dr. Tenma is not happy with him. In the beginning, all Tobio wanted from his father was his love and affection. To simply be noticed or spent time with, is all Tobio desired. Similarly all Astro Boy wanted was to please his father or to be accepted by him, yet too was let down. As a result Tobio was sadden by this as it is normal for a human to feel this in response to rejection, especially when a boy receives this from his father. However, Astro Boy, a robot, follows in his footsteps as it becomes visible that he is emotionally hurt by this rejection as well. For instances, there is a scene on the ship in episode 1 where Astro Boy makes a mess of things at dinner and Dr, Tenma retaliates on him in anger (18.10).
