The Life of Maya Angelou
In the beginning of the sixteenth century, racism was something new that came about and through
time has affected a numerous amount of people in America. Not only has it impacted people s
lives, but it has created a stigma against other cultures. Maya Angelou the author of I Know Why
the Caged Bird Sings recounts what she went through in her life time and how she overcame racism
through the different surroundings she was exposed to, the use of polysyndetons, and the tone
throughout the novel.
To begin with, this story takes place in the 1930 s and 1940 s around the time the Great Depression
and World War II began. Maya the main character in the book, lived in the southern area of Stamps,
Arkansas with her grandmother and brother, Bailey, and uncle. While living in Stamps, the white
people of the town resent the black community and wanted no affiliation with them. The
powerless against the powerful, the poor against the rich, the worker against the worked for and
the ragged against the well dressed. (Angelou 25). The author s purpose for her choice of words
was to express without a filter the degree of racism exactly the way she experienced it in her life
time. Maya notices how in Stamps the black community was seen as second class citizens at
best and how the whites ruled the town. The white people in stamps treated them with very little
respect they were judged by the way they looked, dressed and acted. Around the time the blacks
had to sacrifice a lot since the paying was not so much they had to put so much dedication and
hard work into their job and life to become successful. The theme of racism is common
throughout I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings because it displays how it felt to live during a
time of segregation and the struggle it provided to prove one s intelligence, beauty, and
independence. The author claims that looks should not define people and their success in life
because no one should be judged by their culture and values.
In addition, Angelou used polysyndetons in I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings to portray how
white people viewed black society. It could all be true that we were dumb and lazy and dirty and
unlucky and worst of all that god himself hated us

Twezers Lab Report
The predators in this experiment were three different types of tools, a tweezer, a wooden
clothespin, and a clothes clip. At the start of the first round, there were ten beans for each
different type of bean. Nearly all the white beans were taken out of the first round, only one
survived. This was because the white beans were large, non slippery, and easy to catch. Red
beans and green beans were not as easy to catch. Based on the data and the graph, the tweezers
captured the most beans in this round and the clothes clip had the least (w/ only one white bean).
In the second round, every white bean was captured and many red beans were captured. The
green beans were not captured as often as either other bean. From this, it can be concluded that
the tweezers are the only predator that can efficiently collect green beans based on the graph. As
of round two, no other predator has managed to capture a green bean. Also, the clothes clip
captured zero beans this round. From the data so far, it can be inferred that the tweezers have the

The Argumensos Of Mario Savio s Free Speech Movement
On December 2nd, 1964, Mario Savio delivered his most famous speech on the steps of Sproul
Hall on the campus of UC Berkeley. His address, most famously known for it s passage on The
Operation of the Machine , called university students and TAs to participate in civil disobedience in
order to disrupt parts of the university s functioning. This effort was to show the administration that
the students were autonomous human beings, and not raw material to be bought by some client of
the University. The conflict between the administration and the students began with the banning of
the designated free speech area on campus. Students began to move closer to the heart of campus in
protest, setting up tables for organizations like FSM (the Free Speech Movement) in Sproul Plaza.
These actions resulted in the indefinite suspensions of Mario Savioand seven other students. In an
incident in which student protesters surrounded a police car and gave speeches atop it, the
President of the university, Clark Kerr, began negotiations with Savio and the students.
However, Kerr shot down the FSM s proposal for a committee, and tensions between the FSM
and the administration increased over the next month. FSM began to have rallies on the steps
of Sproul Hall every day at noon in order to put pressure on the administration to grant them their
terms on the return of free speech areas. On December 2nd at one of these rallies, Mario Savio
delivered his speech. The most memorable lines were as follows: There is a time when the
operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart, that you can t take
part; you can t even passively take part, and you ve got to put your bodies upon the gears and

The movie Parable perplexed me about the meaning behind it at first. I knew the mime riding on
the donkey was supposed to depict Jesus, but I did not understand what the mime was doing in
each of the episodes. The episode where the mime helps the Roustabout carry the buckets of water
up the hill to the elephants was confusing to me. The dunk tank scene was also very confusing to
me, as well as the side show and the puppets. The only scenes I understood from the beginning was
when the mime was hung in the harness and when Magnus disguised himself as Jesus. I understood
that the mime hanging in the harness was suppose to relate to the crucifixion. I also understood that

someone who is working full time and supporting a family on minimum wageit seems impossible.

minimum wage to help many Americans by giving many statistics and facts, and
counterarguments, which makes the argument tenable and plausible. Within the article, many
statistics and facts are given to show that the minimum wage needs to be increased to help many
Americans economically. One fact is that approximately 27.8 million people would have a
higher wage if the Democratic proposition of raising the minimum wage from $7.25 to $10.10 (

My Philosophy Of Small Groups Essay
Introduction Over the years, many models have been developed and implemented to endeavor to
make disciples. Some of the models have been effective and others have not. Among some of the
most biblical and efficient models are the ones that involve small groups. Within the small groups
models, they can be broken down into further detail, such as pastoral involvement, the church s
goal, missions mindedness, etc. In this paper, I will explain my philosophy of small groups in a
church and the importance of the relational group in authentic disciple making. I will also explain
how missional groups can help the body of Christ move out into the community. Finally, I will
summarize my status in regards to living in community with other believers and being missional
with that community. My Philosophy of Small Groups My personal philosophy of small groups is
scriptural based. Acts 2:46 says, And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and
breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart. As the
original church began, it is obvious from Acts chapter two and particularly from verse 46 that the
church met in unity in large groups. They actually used a two fold approach of meeting in large
group meetings and then in the homes for more intimate small group gatherings. Acts 2:46 clearly
shows the church gathering in homes, eating together, and continuing the work of the ministry.

What is the DRECP?
When Obama was elected President of the United States, he promised to protect the environment
we live in. His Climate Action Plan set out to increase energy efficiency, reduce carbon pollution
and expand of renewable energy sources. To accomplish a part of this, the government announced
approval of an action plan, the Desert Renewable Energy Conservation Plan DRECP . The DRECP
is a landscape level plan focusing on renewable energy and conservation on 22.5 million acres of
California desert land. The plan stretches over seven California counties, including Los Angeles,
San Diego and San Bernardino. The DRECP was developed in a joint effort by government
agencies such as, the Bureau of Land Management and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Local
governments, renewable energy developers and environmental organizations were also involved.
The DRECP goals could be split up into three major categories.
For renewable energy development, the Plan hopes to identify a common planning goal of
producing 20,000 megawatts by 2040, involving a range of different renewable energy
technologies. To locate new renewable energy development focus areas with suitable energy
resources as well as updating existing renewable energy sites. DRECP s focus for the ecological
side is to preserve, restore, and enhance natural communities and ecosystems and conserve sensitive

Most of you probably know how much I go to Grit. Probably due to the many Grit stickers I have
placed all over my stuff or my many snap chat stories of me there. Or just from how often I talk
about Grit and spinning. But one thing people don t understand is why I am obsessed with Grit. It
s not just another form of exercisefor me. There is so much more to it.
First off, spinning is a wonderful exercise in itself. A 45 minute class that makes you sweat a lot,
burn hundreds of calories and makes you feel good. What more can you ask for in a workout?
Spinning in simple is like dancing on a stationary bike with music and about 53 people from your
community around. It is not only a great exercise where you can have fun at but also a great way for
For one, I never thought I would love a workout more than I love to spin. Secondly, I never
thought that it would be a passion of mine to eventually want to become an instructor. Never in a
million years that I would have thought that I would want to lead a fitness class. But everything
changes, right? While being an instructor, you ride on the podium in front of the whole class and
let me tell you, riding on the podium is one of the best feelings I have ever felt. It is like that
feeling of freedom and an escape for me when I m up there. There is nothing more than the joy
of riding on the podium on Sundays at 10:45. Lastly, they have this special class called the
Karma Ride. What the Karma Ride is where it is between a 45 minute to an hour long class with
two of the instructors in which all of the profits go solely to their charity of the month. Even if
you decide to pay the least amount of $20, any profit they make from the Karma Ride goes
towards the charity. I have only ridden in two Karma rides so far. One was for Special Athletes
Foundation and the other was for the Down Syndrome Association. Not only you are getting a
great workout, you are helping out a case that you would not normally donate to. There have been

Herbert Clark Hoover was the 31st president of the United States.
During his first year in office the Wall Street crash of 1929 occurred. He was blamed for the
resulting collapse of the economy, and his unpopular policies brought an end to a brilliant career in
public office. After the inauguration of Franklin Delano Roosevelt in 1933, however, Hoover
remained a leading critic of the New Deal and a spokesman for the Republican party.
Early Life
Born on Aug. 10, 1874, the son of a blacksmith in the Iowa village of
West Branch, Hoover was orphaned at the age of eight and sent to live with an uncle in Oregon.
The uncle became wealthy, enabling Hoover to study mining engineering at Stanford University; he
