The Ferre Media Group Essay
The Ferre Media Group The Ferre Media Group case talks about a family business starting out as the
Puerto Rican Cement Company in the 1940s, with a grandfather and son, Luis A. Ferre or Antonio s
father. But, Over the years and a few generations on, by the mid 1960s tension and sibling rivalry
started. Antonio Luis Ferre and his brothers divided the companies and their shares rather than to risk
further family disharmony. After 8 years one sibling, Antonio Luis Ferre bought his father dying
newspaper El Dia, in hoping to turn the newspaper company into the largest and most influential
newspaper in Puerto Rice. After 2 ½ years into it, El Nuevo Dia had become an important editorial
voice. The Ferre Rangel family represents the fourth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since Antonio was so committed in orderly transferring the power to the next generations, his next
priority was to make sure the next generation paid attention the details. Antonio felt that the
newspaper business lived and died by those details and by its reputation for responsible citizenship
and journalistic independence. In order this to succeed Antonio presented himself as a role model, he
believed this was the best way to lead by example to show his work ethics, compassion and love
towards his work and to others. To ensure the continuation of the spirit of enterprise and Ferre Media
Group s history of innovation, Antonio should welcome other ideas and values. So, having the family
meetings helped tremendously build new ideas and encourage individual aspirations. Antonio said he
wanted these meetings to help stop conflicts between the siblings and built strong relationships with
one another. Antonio wanted the family to express and listen to other opinions and understand the
different perspectives because without it, to him, it was consider a competition. Family unity was the
utmost priority and with much communication, listening and compromising, trust was built. And so in
collaboration with fourth generation members to continue to grow the family business Antonio helped
launch the new paper Primera Hora in 1998 and a Spanish language newspaper

A tribute to Patsy Cline
A tribute to Patsy Cline with Mandy Barnett and the Nashville Symphony On November fourteenth at
eight o clock p.m. I attended a Patsy Cline tribute concert featuring Mandy Barnett and the Nashville
Symphony with my grandparents. On that particular Friday night, it had been raining for most of the
day. My grandparents came and picked me up at five o clock in hopes of going to a nice dinner before
the show. Once we got on the road, it was clear that our itinerary was not going to work out as we had
planned it to. There was wreck after wreck, leaving most of the interstates backed up and some closed
until late that night. We had to turn around and drive through Mount Juliet to make it to the concert
right on time. None of us had ever been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The partricular piece is very upbeat and outgoing. As the music continues the song continues to grow
faster resulting in a vibrant folk dance. The Nashville symphony did a great job performing this piece
and portraying the light heartedness and fun that Enesco intended. The next work that the Nashville
symphony performed was George Gershwin s, Rhapsody in Blue. This rhapsody combines classical
music with some jazz infuences. The score for this calls for one flute, one oboe, one clarinet in E flat,
one clarinet in B flat, one bass clarinet in B flat, one heckelphone, one sporanino saxaphone in E flat,
one soprano saxaphone in B flat, one alto saxaphone in E flat, one tenor saxaphone in B flat, and one
baratone saxaphone in E flat for the woodwins. For the brass, it called for two horns, two trumpets,
two flugelhorns, euphonium, three trombones, and one tuba. On percussion it called for, one set of
drums, one timpani set, and a trap set. Keyboards called for, two painos, one celesta, and one
accordian. Finally, on strings, a banjo, violins, and string basses were played. Rhapsody in Blue is
considered one of the top one hundred most influencial songs. The song paints a picture of a busy, fast
paced city, which many people can relate to in today s society. Still today Rhapsody in Blue is one of
the top twenty five most played songs. George Gershwin created a timeless piece that will be

Uncovering The Boy From The Porcelain Unicorn
At Least everybody in this world can be courageous. Everybody has been courageous in some way.
Courage can happen any day, any time without anyone even realizing it. People often think courage is
standing up for oneself or helping someone out of home or school, and it can be, but courage can be as
simple as doing something you re afraid to do and then faces your fears and doing it. Characters like
Anne Frank from Diary of Anne Frank, the man from Giving and the boy from The Porcelain Unicorn.
In Giving the man is a good example of courage because he is thoughtful, kind and selfless. The man
from Giving is courageous because he is thoughtful. He is thoughtful because the little kid steals
medicine for his mother and gets caught so the man steps in and buys the medicine for the little boy s
mom. This is courageous because he buys the medicine for the little boys mother even though he didn
t have to. He did it because this little boy was going to risk getting in trouble for his sick mother.Next,

he was selfless. He helps the little girl getaway even if he does get punished. This is courageous

Science Has Been An Interest Of Mine
Science is something that happens every day. Science can be many different things as well.
Throughout my life, science has been an interest of mine. Asking questions, finding out how
something works, or how something is made. When I was in grade school, I don t remember having
any science classes. I do remember doing different experiments at home with my parents though. The
one thing that I loved to do was mix baking soda with vinegar and watching its reaction. This was a lot
of fun for me because it was very interesting to try and understand why both items that are used with
food and cooking, when mixed together would do something so cool. When I got older and into
middle school/high school, was when all of the cool science classes started. We learned about the
different elements on the periodic table and we got to take a tour of the science lab and all of the
fundamentals within it. The teacher showed us all of the different measuring tools and containers, the
ways to be safe in the lab like eye goggles and all of the emergency wash stations. We also got to see a
glass cabinet of a bunch of preserved animals. He explained that the animals were in formaldehyde
and also told us some of the stories behind the animals. One was a really small horse and that was
donated to the school from one of the locals because their horse had ended up having a miscarriage.
There were frogs and snakes and even bunnies and kittens. Another interesting one was a baby deer

A Clean Well Lighted Place Comparison
The short stories A Clean, Well Lighted Place and A Place I ve Never Been have different settings and
plots, but both have similar characters that lead parallel lives. In A Clean, Well Lighted Place, a
character referred to as the young waiter is a selfish man who cannot sympathize with those who
contrasting lives to his own. The character Nathan in A Place I ve Never Been is selfish and naive. His
woe is me attitude creates tension in the story; while a tough decision he must make drives the plot.
The selfishness, naivety, and age of the young waiter and Nathan all create tension that propels the
plots. Without the young waiter in A Clean, Well Lighted Place, there would be little plot or
symbolism. The young waiter is of course young, but also self seeking and inconsiderate. Throughout
the entire plot development of the story, his only interest is in leaving the bar to return home to his
girlfriend. He has no regard for the old man drinking in the bar. One exchange of dialogue between the

No one but you counts (Leavitt, pp. 1056). This is evidence of Nathan either being selfish or naive
about Celia s needs. Either way, Nathan is constantly preventing Celia from moving on with her own
life. Since the story is narrated in first person from Celia s point of view, it is hard for the reader to
know exactly why he acts the way he does. When Celia helps Nathan clean his destroyed apartment is
another example of how Nathan s selfish and immature nature plays a role in plot development. When
Nathan returns from Europe to find his apartment in shambles, he immediately calls Celia to rescue
him. Nathan s dependency on Celia is a sign of immaturity. It is never revealed why Nathan refuses
the test or has a continued reliance on Celia, but it can be inferred, from Celia s thoughts, that it is
because Nathan is selfish and immature. However, without Nathan s imperfections and personality
traits, there would not be much of a

you know that it is Queenie cooking and not arthur because he was upstairs and not down stairs where
the stove is. If queenie was cooking food for her and her friends, why would she trip or push farther
down the stairs while she is cooking something. When someone is cooking they would stop what they
are doing and kill someone. Arthur in the picture is wearing some type of bath robe while he is
walking down the stairs, while Arthur is upstairs in a robe he is probably sleeping or tired. while
Arthur is wearing a robe walking down the stairs arthur was tired he would have a higher chance of
slipping or tripping down the stairs.when you are wearing a robe you are most likely tired. When you

down the stairs is laying on his back with his head first. If queenie had pushed him down the stairs he
would have moved faster than if he fell or slipped down the stairs, if he was moving faster from being
pushed he would have not have time to have turned over on his back what would have happened is he
would have landed on his stomach with his head first. As a rule you move faster being pushed then

A Critical Analysis of The Rocking Horse Winner by D.H. Lawrence and The Destructors by Graham
Greene
In both stories, The Rocking Horse Winner by D.H. Lawrence and The Destructors by Graham Greene
we see the common theme of
wanting to be envied by others because of what we have or can do. The need to do better, have
prestige and more power than anyone else is a
very common human conflict that is dealt with on all levels of humanity. The emotional environment
that man grows and develops in plays
a factor in how he approaches everyday life.
Humanity is always trying to prove to others what they have is better than anyone elses. Paul s mother,

destroyed it would send out a message to all the other gangs and gain the fame and respect that they
wanted. Blackie gave up his leadership
role easily because his earlier ideas of stealing had not really gained any recognition for his gang like
he wanted. He could see the possibility of
success and he overlooked his own pride and worth to go after it. Materialism can be seen in this
because they are using the destruction of a
house to gain respect, but on the other hand the modernist view can be seen because something has to
either build something up or destroy it.
All of these main characters shared a lot of common attributes. The first and most important attribute
was trying to overcome multiple
obstacles to get to their goal. In The Rocking Horse Winner , Paul found his rocking horse and the
ability to pick winning horses the way to
show his mother how successful he was along with the money that he won. He exerted himself
mentally and physically to get to his goal. He is
seen in the nursery ..on his big rocking horse, charging madly into space, with a frenzy that made the
little girls peer at him uneasily...his eyes
had a strange glare to them... . The sad irony for Paul though was that money couldn t buy that
happiness that he wanted his mother to have.
Hester gave up her own happiness when she started chasing power and prestige. Trevor, in The

Findings of the research have been categorised in three different aspects. In cultural type aspect, the
most important findings are the lack of effective communication management and the absence of a
clear strategy for implementing the merger. It have been founded that most of the observed companies
have set the financial benefits and economics of scale as their main objectives. In human resource
aspect, It has been founded that no attempts have been made for finding the organisational fit before
the mergers and this caused a high level of uncertainty between the employees. Finally, because of the
bad management of turnover during the merger, most of the companies have lost their top manager
and staff significantly. Integrating the attributes of human resource and organisational culture are on of
this article significance. This article has evaluated the success of the mergers and acquisitions by
interrelated characteristics between these two main fields. Another significance is the location of the
research, South Africa, Which there are a few research related to that country. The research has used
only five companies that mean a very small sample size. Furthermore, companies have been chosen
from different industries and sectors, which reduce the precision of the findings. It could be added that
the authors have used qualitative research, which means the findings are highly based on the

Child Developmental Theories Essay
Child Developmental Theories
When an infant arrives in the world they are helpless tiny humans who depend on adults for every
need from love, to feeding them. It is amazing how these tiny babies grow into adults able to make
decisions and become self dependent. There are many theories about how children develop and what
roles the environment plays, what people affect their lives and how events can shape their
personalities. Some of these children have and easy life and some have a harder time making that
journey to adulthood.
Child development was largely ignored throughout most of human history and refers to that which
occurs from birth to adulthood. Infants and children were mostly viewed as a smaller version of ...

Cognitive development is the way a child sees, thinks and gains understanding of the world through
interaction, influence, learned and genetic factors. There are four areas of intelligence and child brain
development. They are: biological approaches to intelligence, cognitive succession of stages,
knowledge, and intellectual ability.
Many child development centers, preschools, and school programs are passed on Jean Piaget s
cognitive development theory. When you combine the theory with teachers challenging a child s
ability without introducing concepts beyond their understand, hands on learning, field trips, art crafts,
and games you have the perfect learning program for children.
The environment and object in the environment play a large role in cognitive development around
seven months old. What an infant learns to do naturally is just as important such as like learning to roll
over or eat solid foods. Later in toddlerhood children learn symbols and language in pre operational
cognitive development stage which shows intelligence abilities.
As children get older egocentric thinking will begin to dominate in a non logical and non reversible
way, and this will give a more developed imagination and will improve memory. The child grows into
adolescents and the operational stage of cognitive development with the use of symbols and abstract
concepts grows and shows more

Adolf Hitler s Oppression of the German people Essay
Centuries later and the name Adolf Hitler still rings volumes till this present day: discussed in history
books, talked about amongst intellects and commoners alike, and despised by many for years to come.
Upon hearing his name many may think of all the negative things Hitler has done, but few fail to
analyze just how one man created such controversy amongst a nation without being stopped. The
question then lies how does a man reign over country and devastate it for years to come? Adolf Hitler,

Life in Germany for citizens was not filled with glee because of the war many were jobless and things
became very difficult for them to live their daily lives. Hence the beginning of Hitler s political
advancements.
Hitler soon embarked on a journey of becoming a member of the German Workers Party where he
worked his way up to becoming not only the primary speaker but sole power holder as well. Hitler
quickly began his focus on propaganda blaming government officials, Germany s then poor military
and even different communities for Germanys lack of power as a nation. As Hitler worked to further
himself up the political ladder he concocted erroneous plans to over throw anyone who stood in his
way. Failed not properly executed plans that would land Hitler in prison for months and left him and
his party members banned from public appearances. During his short time in prison Hitler wrote what
is widely known as the book Mein Kampf (My Struggle). The book was a collection of Hitler s life,
thoughts, and ideas of how to help Germany by getting rid of the weak.
Once this ban was lifted Hitler and his party began to work again, outmaneuvering his opponents and
becoming feared by most. Hitler was slowly but surely working his way up the political ladder and
becoming very popular among German citizens. A non German citizen himself; Hitler would have to

Couples Therapy
It is imperative to acknowledge the seriousness on extramarital affairs because of the detrimental
effects they can have on both the guilty and injured individuals. Marriage is a life long commitment
between two individuals and the incident of infidelity compromises the marriage relationship and
results in a very difficult road back to normalcy. Couples therapy has a long, verifiable record for
successfully treating marital discord and P. Dews (personal communication, March 26, 2016) believes
that couples seriously considering reconciliation should work through their situation under the
guidance of an experienced counsellor. Although there are different approaches to the successful

Pastor Johann Arnold states that: When we forgive someone for a mistake or a deliberate hurt, we still
recognize it as such, but instead of lashing out or biting back, we attempt to see beyond it, so as to

it may not even be acknowledged or accepted yet the act of offering it will keep us from being sucked

party to accept what they have done, deal with it, heal and move on with their partner. Forgiveness
does not excuse or minimize the behaviour, forgiveness allows each person to be released from the

Sociology Of Sex And Gender Essay
Ajibola Olayinka
Sociology of sex and gender
Professor Taylor Houston
8th November, 2016.
My beliefs and view on the gender ideology towards work and family is more weighed on one side
(Masculine) and partly on the other (Feminine). It is evident that the Masculine gender is more
dominant in our society and because of this; there is more expectation and responsibility for the
masculine gender. However, there is a continual inclusion trend in which we are witnessing the
feminine gender assume some roles of the masculine gender. But overall, the masculine effect is still
dominant. I personally feel that there should be a good balance of work and family responsibility by
the men. It is necessary that the Men are mostly responsible for taking the role of the breadwinner of
the family therefore, the working hours of the men would have to be met as required by the employer.
For example, working 40 hours a week is the minimum in the US but varies in some other places. In a
case whereby the man has to take an overtime shift just to meet the needs of the family. The core
responsibility of a family depends on both the man and the woman. This also varies depending on the
family. In my opinion, I would expect both genders o take equal responsibility. The feminine gender is
mostly associated with the child care activities and the house chores while the Masculine gender is
associated with the providing for the family and helping the feminine gender. In as much as there will

Introduction
To compare the legal, educational inclusion and disability regulations of different countries, you first
need to look at what that country regards as important and what that country values when it comes to
the education of people living in that country. This report will first compare and examine Australia,

important within their country to be inclusive within their education system and the values each of

Persuasive Essay Pro Death Penalty
There are murder victims family members who go through this process thinking they ll feel peace
once the revenge of the death penalty is carried out. What I ve learned from meeting with these people
is that you don t feel better in revenge. You feel better in forgiveness (Steinberg, 2015). Today, there
are 31 states that are for the death penalty, leaving 19 that are against it. There are many reasons to be
for and against the death penalty, but in my opinion, I think that there is a better way to take care of
criminals rather than killing them.
One side of this debate is being for the death penalty. According to Van Den Haag (1983), people fear
death more than life in prison. Having the death penalty will be a consequence that people don t want
to face so it will help decrease future murder. Also, Swift (2014) states that they deserve being put to
death. They knew before they did the crime that the consequence for murder is being put to death. He
also argues that having them put to death will help stop further crime and overcrowding of prisons. ...

The purpose for the death penalty is to help with future crimes, but it seems to have no deterrent
effect. Death Penalty Cost (2015) states that in California, it currently costs $137 million for the death
penalty every year. It would be reduced down to $11.5 million if they took care of this situation
without having to go through all the trials leading up to the execution. Many times it ends up that they
find out that the criminal is innocent, so they wasted a lot of taxpayer s money going through all the
trials, and then they usually have life sentence expenses that taxpayers also have to pay

growth of interest in corporate governance has emerged in recent years. The body of literature on the
subject has grown markedly in response to successive waves of large corporate failures. Furthermore,
there have been numerous attempts to define what constitutes good corporate governance and to
provide guidelines in order to enhance the quality of corporate governance. It must, however, be
acknowledged that while everyone advocates and wants corporations to maintain good corporate

In particular, the independent judgement of board members is crucial in the bearing on board decisions
to ensure that this goal is achieved. 1. Does the board comprise a majority of independent directors?
Ensuring that a majority of independent directors to monitor the actions of executive directors helps to
address the potential for, or perception of, conflict of interest of executive director involvement in
board decisions. A good corporate governance structure would encourage the board to regularly assess
whether each non executive director is independent. 2. Are the roles of the chairperson and chief
executive officer (CEO) exercised by different individuals? This clear division of responsibility would
help to counterbalance the power and influence of the CEO in the decision making of the company s
directors. Furthermore, this would enhance the supporting role that may be assumed by the chairman
in being the CEO s confidante. 3. Has the board established a nomination committee which consists of

What Ideas About Love and the Past Are Explored in ‘Love...
Throughout Love Songs in Age and Wild Oats, Philip Larkin uses various literary techniques, such as
imagery, structure and symbolism to convey certain aspects of love and the passing of time. These
aspects are illuminated by Dannie Abse in Down the M4.
Love Songs in Age pictures a woman, perhaps Larkin s mother, who has kept the musical scores of
songs she used to play, perhaps on the piano, and rediscovers them after many years, when she is a
widow. In the poem, Larkin uses lexical choice to explore how the idea of love is often distorted and
in reality, love fails to live up to its promises of freshness and brilliance . In the third stanza, the
concept of much mentioned almost clichĂŠd, love is presented in its brilliance , love ... Show more

The imagery conjures thoughts of gorgeous petals, yet we often forget about the prickly stem on
which the rose sits. This word is used in both, the first and third stanzas, to depict the beautiful woman
who the narrator falls in love with. Her beautiful face and body allure him into affection, leading him
to overlook her harsh thorns . Ironically rose also suggests favourable, comfortable, or easy
circumstances, a definition that is the complete opposite of what the unattainable lover instigates in
the narrator s life. The speaker also uses words such as cathedral , ring , and clergy in the second
stanza, to implicitly state that he proposes to the beautiful lover, and is denied many times. In the third
stanza, Larkin s creative use of the word snaps in describing the pictures of his lover he carries
around. Instead of simply calling them pictures or photographs, he substitutes a word that resembles
what the woman in the picture did to his heart! In the last lines of the first stanza the speaker ends with
But it was the friend I took out , considering he rambles on about how beautiful and great her friend is,
it is confusing and ironic that he chooses the girl in specs . The speaker continues on in the second
stanza and says I believe I met beautiful twice the uncertainty of how many times he met her is not
genuine and is only meant to look like he does not consider or remember how many times they met,

Assessment Methods in Assessing Vocational Achievement
Reflection on different assessment methods Throughout my work with candidates I use number of
different assessment methods as well as assessment categories. Assessment is a number of different
methods which are used to evaluate performance and can be used measured against set criteria. I use
formative assessment throughout the process so that every time I interact with the candidate I assess
their achievement of LO to guide the learning process which informs my decision about the next stage
of learning and assessment. When I worked though the plan with candidates and that together we feel

I use this method in consultation with the learner and we create a plan around the best way of
performing it. Benefits Marking can be fast but some standardisation of interview procedure is needed
to ensure reliability and validity. Can be useful to check the ownership of evidence to ensure that
students are familiar with things that other forms of assessment indicate that they have learned well.
Virtually no scope for plagiarism Can provide a free exchange of ideas on a topic Generally used
supported by other assessment methods Allows for description, evaluation and reflection Structured
discussion allows for gaps to be covered The authenticity (ownership) of the product is not without
doubt Disadvantages Can be too leading Can be disjointed; learners need preparation time to ensure
logical flow of ideas A criticism could be that it tests communication, understanding, and capacity to
think quickly under pressure. Oral work can be less stressful for some students Cultural and individual
difference can result in some candidates underperforming when asked questions by figures of
authority. Not suitable for assessing large amounts of subject knowledge and understanding as it not
supposed to be a memory test. It is best utilised to plug knowledge gaps that have occurred in other
areas of assessment.

The Case Of Feral Children
It is essential to realize that isolation from society breeds dehumanization, a proof of that is the case of
feral children, the ones who had almost no social contact during their infancy. Ones were even
reported to have been raised by wild animals. Take the case of Anna, a girl who had been kept for
almost six years in a dark room, barely fed, neglected completely by her mother. When she was
discovered, she could not speak, walk, not to mention she was indifferent to everything around her.
Her case shows exactly how badly one can be affected by seclusion. However, Silas Marner s situation
differs in some respects from the one mentioned previously, since he was an adult. Yet one cannot help
but observe the change in his character and way of being, as he even started resembling the things to
which he was deeply tied, his loom and his gold.
Strangely Marner s face and figure shrank and bent themselves into a constant mechanical relation to
the objects of his life, so that he produced the same sort of impression as a handle or a crooked tube,
which has no meaning standing apart. (Eliot 15)
The third stage is marked by the sequence in which Dunstan stole his gold which also showcased the
aftermath of isolation. This apparent adversity forced him out of his shell, compelled him to seek help
from his neighbours who had almost forgotten him. The theft forced him to reconnect with the
villagers and to find a way to integrate himself. When he decided to go to Rainbow, the place where

Self Defense In To Kill A Mockingbird
In this week s section section of To Kill A Mockingbird our mystery man who killed Mr. Robert E.

just appreciating that his kids are okay. For example in the text it says, It ll come before county
court...it was clear cut self defense, but I ll have to go to the office and hunt up.(365) This proves the
mystery man who killed Mr. Bob Ewell is not valued. This is because Atticus tried to put the suspects

got killed in the process from self defense then maybe he shouldn t have been beating up on them.

Renewing Husbandry Analysis
Production based farming has provided small communities a new effective way of farming; however,
this type of farming has created more issues than solutions. In Renewing Husbandry, Wendell Berry
discusses the way communities have lost the practice of husbandry in farming to production based
farming. Also, he depicts the side effects production based farming has on the small communities by
demonstrating the loss of connection the farmers now have with the land and community they provide
for. Production based farming destroys the unity of small communities. Production based farming
drives people out of the smaller communities because the production damages the economy of the

In the passage Berry discusses, He is no longer working as an independent and loyal agent of his
place, his family, and his community, but instead as the agent of an economy that is fundamentally
adverse to him and to all that he ought to stand for (2005, para. 11). When companies own farmland
for production, the farmers who grow the goods do not have a voice in the company s decisions and
the way the goods produced are treated. Farmers who own their land have the voice to demand the
way their goods sell and the choice to provide for the family. The farmers who grow the goods for the
companies no longer have the relationship with the land and the produce, because the company who
owns the farm has total control over the production process. The community no longer receives the
profits from the goods because the companies take the money from the owners leaving them with a
small income for the mass amount of goods produced. In addition to farmers working for companies,
the companies more employees in the farm than owners. Berry states in the passage: It has
transformed the United States from a country of many owners to a country of many employees (2005,
para. 19). In the country, farmers work for profit instead of working for their communities or family.
The unity of the community decreases when fewer owners own the farms because the farmers no

Essay On Health Information Exchange
Introduction I will be focusing on defining a Health Information Exchange, including the aspects of
the various formats; how Health Information Exchanges developed over time, including the hurdles
that had to be overcome; and where Health Information Exchanges are heading, along with expected
hurdles and improvements. The development has been much slower than expectations, but the future
looks promising. What is HIE? Health Information Exchanges (HIEs) share patient information
between health care providers in order to improve the speed, quality, safety, and cost of patient care.
By sharing data, physicians improve their decision making, as well as reduce readmissions, avoid
medication errors, improve diagnoses, and decrease duplicate testing. Aside from these benefits, the
use of electronic data requires healthcare providers to standardize their data. There are three forms of

This service, once the patient is identified, searches for the existence of records within the exchange.
This form of information retrieval would be very helpful to the care of a patient, most specifically in
the case of emergency care (Morris, 2012). The Emergency Dept could begin a query at the time of
triage to build a problem list, allergy list, medication list, current physicians and ongoing treatments.
The costs associated with developing a record locator service, and the questionable sustainability in a
market lacking interoperability between the available EHRs, have impeded the development of this
form of exchange (Rudin,2014).It has been difficult for HIEs using this format to reach their tipping
point to become self sustaining. There are several determinants driving the success of Query based
HIOs the need for a broader set of clinical data, more diverse and high volumes of data, obtaining

Evil In Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde
Questioned for years has been the idea that man is born evil.. It has also been brought up in
discussions about Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Was Hyde evil because of the potion or was his other
persona, Jekyll, evil from birth and that came out through Hyde? This argument will never go away,
but the answer is out there. Evil strengthens over time but it is within everyone as soon as they take
their first breath of life. The Bible says that even from birth the wicked go astray; from the womb they
are wayward, spreading lies (New International Version, Psalm 58.3). The writer of this Psalm is
saying that people stray away from what is right as soon as they are born. That is a hard concept for
many to understand. How can an innocent child be evil right as they are born? When Eve ate the
forbidden fruit that God said not to eat, she committed the first sin. Every person to be born is now
cursed with sin because of Eve and Adam. Eve was not alone when she ate the forbidden fruit. Satan
was there and he had tempted her by questioning God. Billy Graham ... Show more content on

The Terrorist Attacks Of The United States
September 11, 2001, started as a perfect day, but as the day went on, chaos and terror erupted in the
streets of New York City. New York s iconic World Trade Center fell victim to hijacked commercial
airlines filled with innocent people. In 102 minutes, the world was forever changed by one of the
worst attacks the United States has ever experienced. Many factors made the terrorist attacks of
September 11th a day that is permanently etched into the hearts and minds of Americans. Nineteen
radicals linked to the Islamic terrorist group al Qaeda gained control over four airplanes and carried
out attacks against targets in the United States on 9/11. (History.com Authors) Their leader, Osama
Bin Laden, and his followers viciously opposed the United States. In al Qaeda s opinion, the United
States was an infidel because it was not governed in a manner consistent with the group s extremist
interpretation of Islam. Other characteristics of America aggravated the extremist group as well,
including our foreign policy and supporting enemies of al Qaeda. Because of his hatred of America,
Bin Laden declared a Jihad, or holy war, against the United States, which he has carried out through al
Qaeda and its affiliated organizations. (Smith) As a result, the United States faced many violent
attacks with the group, including the bombing in 1993 that took place before the attacks on September

among the outcomes that employees could find of value. Generally, in industry there are standard
benefits and compensation, including medical, dental, pension and life insurance. However, there are
other extra benefits and incentives that could play a part in motivating employees in the workplace.
Before the survey results are discussed, the author discusses some of the benefits and incentives

The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost Essay
The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost
In Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken, (reprinted in Laurence Perrine and Thomas R. Arp, Sound and
Senses, 8th ed. [San Diego: Harcourt, 1992] 23) the speaker stands in the woods, considering a fork in
the road. Both ways are equally worn, and equally overlaid with un trodden leaves. The speaker
chooses one, telling himself that he will take the other another day. Yet he knows it is unlikely that he
will have the opportunity to do so. And he admits that someday in the future he will recreate the scene
with a slight twist: he will claim that he took the less traveled road. The whole poem is an extended

Frost presents to the reader a man s decision, at a turning point in his life, symbolized by two roads
diverged in a yellow wood.
In the first line, Frost introduces the elements of his primary metaphor: the diverging roads. The
speaker expresses his regret that [he] could not travel both (line 2). The choice is not easily made since
long I stood (line 3) before coming to a decision. In an attempt to make a choice, the traveler examines
the path as far as [he] could (line 4), but his vision is limited because the path bends and is covered in
the undergrowth (line 5). Thus, indicating that although he would have liked to acquire more
information, he is prevented from doing so because of the nature of his environment. In lines 6 8, the
speaker is still unable to decide between the two paths since the other, [is] just as fair (line 6). He
indicates that the second path is a more attractive choice since it was grassy and wanted wear (line 8).
Nevertheless, by the end of the stanza, he remains ambivalent, even after comparing the two paths, for
each was really about the same (line 10). Neither path has been traveled lately. In the third stanza, the
speaker makes his decision, trying to persuade himself that he will eventually come back (line 15) to
satisfy his desire and curiosity to travel both paths. However, deep down, he admits to himself that

Understanding The Limitations Of A Person With Mcardle s...
In 2005, my husband was forced to retire from a job at Georgia Pacific. This was a job that he had
been working at for thirty three years. The muscles in his arms were tearing for no reason that we
knew of and he was having some other health problems. It was very upsetting to both of us not
knowing the outcome about his health and now no income as well. We had seen many doctors on
many different occasions. We kept hitting a dead end. Finally, we were able to see a new doctor, a
neurologist, and after examining my husband, he immediately said to my husband, you have McArdle
s disease. It was a term that I was not familiar with at all. My heart dropped and I was not sure what
we were up against. Understanding the limitations of a person with McArdle s disease is the best way

What is McArdle s disease? It is a rare skeletal muscle disorder (Choleva, A.J. 2011). 1 in 100,000
persons is affected by the disease. The disease gets its name from Dr. Brian McArdle. McArdle s
disease is caused by a missing enzyme, myophosphorylase C. This breaks down glycogen (which is
the body form of stored energy) into glucose (sugar).
People who have McArdle s disease often appear lazy. Just to look at them, they seem to be very
healthy. In order for someone to have the disease both parents would have to have the defective gene.

can be Godly. I interpret that verse as meaning that it is important to know and confirm in your mind

Statement 2
Quantitative research methods are best because they use quantity data to obtain results from the

measures in the view and opinion of others and who feels them the most or less. This method can be
chosen at random representing the population of interest. They collect their data by telephone

method to go to when choosing a course of action. This is best to research something further and

Theories On The Causation Of Homosexuality

Theories on the Causation of Homosexuality
Luke Thomas
The University of Alabama
CAUSATION OF HOMOSEXUALITY 2
Abstract
There are two main schools of thought regarding the causation of homosexuality. The first,
which is examined in this research, is biological cause. Three main categories of thought
exist under biological theory: hormone theory, brain theory, and genetic theory. Each
category contains convincing evidence as to why its respective variations should be attributed
to provoking homosexuality. Hormone theory maintains that abnormal levels of testosterone
expose whether too great or too little is responsible for masculinizing or feminizing
the fetus and thus altering its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The study of its causation, however, has been greatly expanded only within past two
centuries. Many theories have been formulated to attempt to explain what causes sexual
variance, and in particular, homosexuality. These theories can be grouped into two main
categories: nature and nurture. The theories which fall under the nature category maintain
that homosexual behavior results from biological, innate differences between homosexuals
and heterosexuals. The nurture theories, in contrast, state that homosexual tendencies form
as a result of one s sociological environment, and that homosexuality is an acquired trait.
Recent research, however, indicates a stronger assumption towards biological causes of
homosexuality and leads one to question the validity of the nurture theories in influencing
homosexual behavior.
Nature Theories
Theories crediting homosexual behavior to natural, biological factors take many
different routes. The three main subcategories of biological theories include hormone theory,
brain theory, and genetic theory. Although neither the nature nor the nurture theories are
entirely conclusive, recent research suggests more of a correlation between biological
theories on the causation of homosexuality as opposed to sociological theories.

philosopher who was born in February in the year 1891 in Anamosa, Iowa. Wood was born to Quaker
parents on a small farm. This experience would be the basis of his iconic images of small town plain

At the start of his career he was influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement and then painted in a
manner that could be compared to those of John Sloan, Edward Hopper, Edouard Vuillard or Utrillo.
Wood changed his style in 1928 as seen with American Gothic , his masterpiece produced in 1930,
which became a much popular painting in the U.S. It represented a couple of farmers in front of their
house built in the gothic carpenter style. Such painting revealed the influence of German and Dutch
primitive painters regarding the minute treatment of details, notably in the architecture of the farm. It
symbolised the life of pioneers. Wood painted the people and landscapes of the Middle West in an
idealised way, inspired by his personal universe filled with tales and legends thus paying homage to
those people who worked hard without bothering about earning money. Stone City, Iowa was Wood s
first major landscape, painted in the same year as the famous American Gothic. At the height of his
style, Stone City is also the epitome of Wood s dialogue about change that was often threaded through
his traditional subjects. Understood in this tranquil, idealized scene of life in harmony with nature was
the knowledge that Stone City itself reflected the transitions brought about in a rural community by
industrialization. Located on the Wapsipinicon River twenty six miles from

Woodstock Essays
Woodstock 1969 The Sixties were an exciting revolutionary period with great cultural change. Some
people called it the decade of discontent (Britannica) due to the race riots in Detroit and La, and the
demonstrations against the Vietnam War. Other people called it the decade of peace, love, and
harmony (Woodstock 69). This decade was identified as such as a result of the peace movement and
the emergence of the flower children. (Britannica) The sixties were about assassination, unforgettable
fashion, new styles of music, civil rights, gay and women s liberation, Vietnam, Neil Armstrong
landing on the moon, peace marches, sexual freedom, drug experimentation, and Woodstock. All of
these components caused a revolutionary change in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Woodstock was a planned event however; the majority of it just fell into place for three days. The
second quality is is it temporally bounded . The event was bounded by the first and last days. Next is
is it spatially bounded . It contained a stage for the musicians and an area marked off for those that
paid for their ticket however, during the occasion the boundaries for the ticket holders was breached.
Another quality is was it programmed . Woodstock was programmed due to the line up, or the order in
which the musicians sang. The fifth quality is is this a coordinated public event . This was the main
purpose for Woodstock to get people to come together to share the peace and love. The final quality is
is the event heightened . Woodstock is still remembered as being three days of a concert and people
coming together to enjoy good music and love. The cultural process of Woodstock consisted of
rejoicing in the different styles of music and in each individual that came. The festival included many
social dramas. Individuals, in that number, are bound to have differences. Woodstock taught people,
approximately 400,000, how to resolve their issues by sharing a common goal. The celebration helped
to advance the ideas of peace and unity throughout the generation. The three day celebration was
considered an aesthetic event. It was not only a concert but an art fair as well. Some works of art were
seen during the event. People wore the art in the form of body

Home Front Rationing
During the war, people received ration books. The books included the person s name, address, city and
state. People were also given ration coins that allowed cashiers to give change for food purchased with
ration stamps. People were given these because items during the war were scarce. The first food item s
prices that were frozen on the market by the United States Office of Price Administration (OPA) were
sugar and coffee.
The reason things were rationed was due to little production. Was items were the priority of being
produced over household items to help win the war. This meant that everything needed to be rationed
for everyone to get their equal share. Sugar, meat, tires, silk, gasoline, shoes, nylon, and more were all
rationed to American people. Chicken wire, used for fencing in animals was also being rationed.
Pretty much anything you could think of had to be rationed, because the most important focus at the
time was the war. The title of Few Nylons meant that women had rations on stockings. Also their
clothes were cut down to save material. Their hem and belt width was cut down to two inches. The
cuffs on the sleeves of their clothes were no longer allowed. The availability of nylon stockings was
scarce. The restrictions for women s apparel saved yardage of material for other clothes used in war.
The War Production Board (WPB) was in charge of ensuring that armed forces had all their supplies to
win the war. Since they were in a state of

Roman Legacy
The legacy of the Greeks and Romans gave us so many things today including things such as different
ideas about government, Philosophical writings and ideas, architecture, and even things like soap. In
this paper I plan to give many examples and try to explain them in my best abilities, and I will also try
to use the knowledge I learn doing this in my daily life and try to gain an appreciation for what we
gained from them. I plan to go over the things i have listed above and try to even go over things I didn
t even know myself. I hope that this will give knowledge to anyone who ends up reading this paper.
First I plan to talk about the influences on the way Government evolved due to the Greeks and
Romans. Greece has been known as the birthplace ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

would exist today, and we would never be able to know about all of the great contributions we

Beauty Parlor Lindahl Analysis
For most of human history, literature, both fiction and poetry, has been narrated, not written heard, not
read. So fairy tales, folk tales, stories from the oral tradition, are all of them the most vital connection
we have with the imaginations of the ordinary men and women whose labor created our world.
(Angela Carter) My Grandmother Fowler epitomized the characterization of an ordinary Southern,
hardworking, farm woman. She was thin, brown from the sun even though she always wore long
sleeves outside, and always dresses as her religion dictated. Her hair was steel grey, and would have
reached her waist if she hadn t made the weekly trip to Ms. Rose Tully s Beauty Parlor to have her
hair washed and pulled up into a lacquered bun. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Lindahl, page 8) Lindahl provides a journey of North American Folklorists who were equally quick
to ignore and accept the demise of North American Märchen, but yet discovered the genre lived a
healthy life in certain cultures of the country. Lindahl confirms that earliest academic folklorist were
biased toward finding and recording ballads. His view is that academia left the folk tales research to
those outside their academic circles while they pursued the more socially acceptable goal of ballads.
(Lindahl, 11) The primary researchers of North American Märchen, per Lindahl, were Vance
Randolph, Leonard Roberts, and Richard Chase. While Randolph did hold an advanced degree in
Psychology, he was rejected by the academic world of folklorists because of his interest in Märchen.
Lindahl quotes Randolph regarding a rejection of his proposal to Columbia University for a study of
oral traditions because (they) were interested in Indians and Eskimos, and blacks... It seemed to me
ridiculous. I was interested in white mountain people (Lindahl, 12). Randolph continued his passion
and work, immersing himself in the Ozarks, but his academic recognition was only obtained at the age
of eighty six with his becoming a Fellow of the American Folklore Society. (Lindahl,

The Dangers Of Motorcycle Safety
On May 19, 2004, a young boy was driving his motorcycle on his way to move into his new house
when a van cut him off on the highway and his motorcycle struck the back of the van, causing the bike
and boy to tumble down the highway at 60 MPH. Luckily, the boy was wearing a helmet. That helmet
had been crushed in from the impact, and if he hadn t been wearing it, that would have been his head.
Motorcycle safety has always been a concern for many people, including parents of children who want
bikes. Even if you don t ride motorcycles, knowing the importance of helmets can help you teach
others and save the life of a family or friend. I believe that everyone, no matter the age or experience,
should wear a helmet while riding a motorcycle. Wearing a helmet while riding a motorcycle can be
the difference between life or death. In this paper, I will explain why not wearing a helmet is such a
big problem, then I will tell you why the problem exists, and finally I will give some solutions to this
issue.
Let s start off by talking about why not wearing a helmet is such a big deal. Motorcycles are the most
hazardous form of motor vehicle transportation. They are less stable and harder to see than normal
cars. Like any other mode of transportation, safety is important and helmets are the most important
when riding a motorcycle. Your brain is very fragile and even though you have a skull protecting it,
your skull can easily be crushed and if your brain beats up against your skull, it

Libby Montana Movie Analysis
A. While watching the documentary on Libby Montana i learned a lot about all of the bad things that
happened to hundreds of people. The story can be traced back to 1919 when companies first started
pulling vermiculite out of mines in Libby. Known commercially as Zonolite, vermiculite was used in a
variety of construction materials including insulation for homes and buildings. Decades of mining the
vermiculite exposed workers and residents to toxic asbestos dust. A word from our soc book that i
related to the movie was health. Obviously this was going to be a term i picked just by seeing what
was going on.Health is the level of functional or metabolic efficiency of a living organism. In humans
it is the ability of individuals or communities ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

asbestos refers to a set of six naturally occurring fibrous minerals. Asbestos has six primary sub
classifications: chrysotile, crocidolite, amosite, anthophyllite, tremolite, and actinolite. Among these,
chrysotile and amosite asbestos are the most common.Although asbestos fibers are microscopic in
nature, they are extremely durable and resistant to fire and most chemical reactions and breakdowns.
These properties of asbestos were the reasons that supported its use for many years in a number of
different commercial and industrial capacities. The strength of asbestos, combined with its resistance
to heat, allowed it to become the material of choice in a variety of products, including, but not limited
to, roofing shingles, floor tiles, ceiling materials, cement compounds, textile products, and automotive
parts. Asbestos is now strictly regulated as exposure to this toxic mineral can now be directly and
scientifically linked to a number of lung and respiratory health conditions. Its really a very bad thing. It
wasn t only around back in that time period of the Libby tradgedy. It is still around to this day and we
have no way of controlling it. In my old high school we had it in every room and the teacher use to kid
around about it but now i really know how serious it is. It is honestly nothing to joke about and there
should be laws patient play for schools making them get checked and passed to be function atlas every

Cultural Diversity
What kinds of clothes do you wear? What types of music do you like? What foods do you eat? Your
clothing, music, and foods, along with other factors such as religion, family structure, and values, are
all part of your culture. Culture refers to the attitudes, values, customs, and behavior patterns that
characterize a social group (Banks, 2001). The enormous impact of culture is illustrated by its
influence on all aspects of our lives (Gollnick Chinn, 2002). An activity as basic as eating is one
example:
●
Culture not only helps to determine what foods we eat, but it also influences when we eat (for
example, one, three, or five meals and at what time of the day); with whom we eat (that is, only with
the same sex, with children or with the extended family); how we eat (for example, at a table or on the
floor; with chopsticks, silverware, or the fingers); and the ritual of eating (for example, in

Concussions In The National Football League
From what I ve researched and what I ve experienced, I don t think it s worth the risk ( Chris Borland
). This quotation from former San Francisco 49er, Chris Borland, exemplifies the concern for the
increase in occurrence of concussions in the National Football League. A concussion is defined as a
type of traumatic brain injury caused by a blow to the head ( NFL Concussions ). The debate on who
is truly responsible for the injury s increasing presence in the NFL continues to be disputed in the
league today. Whether the blame is to be placed on the administrative personnel of the league or the
players and their actions, change is the one common denominator in the stances taken by both sides.
The National Football League is not doing enough ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fact that a use of a more efficient test for diagnoses of the injury has not been implemented into
the league s concussion protocol provides support for this argument. Improper education of the true
amount of risk involved that will affect a player in the long term displays the carelessness of the
league s front office. Almost every athlete that remains connected to the NFL has a family that relies
on them for income and support. By discerning the safety of its very own employees, of which the
league would cease to exist without, the NFL is putting the lives and welfare of the players and their
families at risk. Money must become a secondary concern when one is dealing with a person s safety
on the football field. The league cannot continue to put the lives of its employees at risk in order to
avoid money loss. The National Football League is not doing enough to prevent concussions from
continually occurring in the league today and a change in policy is mandatory in order to provide a
safe environment for its players. Nothing matters more than a person s

Trimax
There are five crucial factors that are able to classify whether a firm is in a monopolistic market,
oligopoly market, monopolistic competitive market, or in a perfect competition market. These factors
consist of the amount of competition, product differentiation, entry/exit barriers in the market, pricing
power and their non price competition. These factors are a key way to analyze a firm and determine
which type of business it is allocated in. During an Interview with the leading partner of this Trimax
automotive, I was able to gather information based on these five factors, enabling me to determine
which competitive market Trimax is classified under. Competition: In the area of Markham, ON there

This allows some firms to shine over others as they are able to execute and provided better service or
allow for a more convenient delivery to a customer. For Trimax automotive, an important factor they
must always consider is keeping a large amount of inventory in store enabling them to deliver parts to
customers right away. This is because of the I need it now market. This plays an important role as it
becomes highly convenient for a customer when their supplier is able to send parts within the hour.
Mr. Sousa had stated, We try to attain the quickest services levels possible so the customers do not
have to wait for their vehicles to be repaired. This shows the level of importance customer service
means to this company as it does play an important component in keeping a large amount of ones
demand base. Online ordering is starting to attract consumers as they have the ability to check on
Trimax s inventory enabling Trimax to get the sale before other companies have the chance. This is
because of like previously stated, usually whoever has the part gets the sale. Through non price
competition one can see that customer satisfaction is the key component needed to keep popular
demand in your company enabling one to get a sale before your competitor. Thus showing that Trimax
is located more towards a monopolistic competitive market as they have some ways of being able to
reach higher demand without the use of lowering their

Asking questions, finding out how something works, or how something is made. When I was in grade school, I don t remember having any science classes. I do remember doing different experiments at home with my parents though. The one thing that I loved to do was mix baking soda with vinegar and watching its reaction. This was a lot of fun for me because it was very interesting to try and understand why both items that are used with food and cooking, when mixed together would do something so cool. When I got older and into middle school/high school, was when all of the cool science classes started. We learned about the different elements on the periodic table and we got to take a tour of the science lab and all of the fundamentals within it. The teacher showed us all of the different measuring tools and containers, the ways to be safe in the lab like eye goggles and all of the emergency wash stations. We also got to see a glass cabinet of a bunch of preserved animals. He explained that the animals were in formaldehyde and also told us some of the stories behind the animals. A Clean Well Lighted Place Comparison The short stories A Clean, Well Lighted Place and A Place I ve Never Been have different settings and plots, but both have similar characters that lead parallel lives. In A Clean, Well Lighted Place, a character referred to as the young waiter is a selfish man who cannot sympathize with those who contrasting lives to his own. The character Nathan in A Place I ve Never Been is selfish and naive. His woe is me attitude creates tension in the story; while a tough decision he must make drives the plot. The selfishness, naivety, and age of the young waiter and Nathan all create tension that propels the plots. Without the young waiter in A Clean, Well Lighted Place, there would be little plot or symbolism. The young waiter is of course young, but also self seeking and inconsiderate. Throughout the entire plot development of the story, his only interest is in leaving the bar to return home to his girlfriend. He has no regard for the old man drinking in the bar. This is evidence of Nathan either being selfish or naive about Celia s needs. Either way, Nathan is constantly preventing Celia from moving on with her own life. Since the story is narrated in first person from Celia s point of view, it is hard for the reader to know exactly why he acts the way he does. When Celia helps Nathan clean his destroyed apartment is another example of how Nathan s selfish and immature nature plays a role in plot development. When Nathan returns from Europe to find his apartment in shambles, he immediately calls Celia to rescue him. Nathan s dependency on Celia is a sign of immaturity. It is never revealed why Nathan refuses the test or has a continued reliance on Celia, but it can be inferred, from Celia s thoughts, that it is because Nathan is selfish and immature. Lawrence and The Destructors by Graham Greene In both stories, The Rocking Horse Winner by D.H. Lawrence and The Destructors by Graham Greene we see the common theme of wanting to be envied by others because of what we have or can do. The need to do better, have prestige and more power than anyone else is a very common human conflict that is dealt with on all levels of humanity. There are four areas of intelligence and child brain development. They are: biological approaches to intelligence, cognitive succession of stages, knowledge, and intellectual ability. Many child development centers, preschools, and school programs are passed on Jean Piaget s cognitive development theory. When you combine the theory with teachers challenging a child s ability without introducing concepts beyond their understand, hands on learning, field trips, art crafts, and games you have the perfect learning program for children. The environment and object in the environment play a large role in cognitive development around seven months old. What an infant learns to do naturally is just as important such as like learning to roll over or eat solid foods. Later in toddlerhood children learn symbols and language in pre operational cognitive development stage which shows intelligence abilities. My beliefs and view on the gender ideology towards work and family is more weighed on one side (Masculine) and partly on the other (Feminine). It is evident that the Masculine gender is more dominant in our society and because of this; there is more expectation and responsibility for the masculine gender. However, there is a continual inclusion trend in which we are witnessing the feminine gender assume some roles of the masculine gender. But overall, the masculine effect is still dominant. I personally feel that there should be a good balance of work and family responsibility by the men. It is necessary that the Men are mostly responsible for taking the role of the breadwinner of the family therefore, the working hours of the men would have to be met as required by the employer. For example, working 40 hours a week is the minimum in the US but varies in some other places. In a case whereby the man has to take an overtime shift just to meet the needs of the family. The core responsibility of a family depends on both the man and the woman. This also varies depending on the family. In my opinion, I would expect both genders o take equal responsibility. The feminine gender is mostly associated with the child care activities and the house chores while the Masculine gender is associated with the providing for the family and helping the feminine gender. Throughout Love Songs in Age and Wild Oats, Philip Larkin uses various literary techniques, such as imagery, structure and symbolism to convey certain aspects of love and the passing of time. Love Songs in Age pictures a woman, perhaps Larkin s mother, who has kept the musical scores of songs she used to play, perhaps on the piano, and rediscovers them after many years, when she is a widow. Ironically rose also suggests favourable, comfortable, or easy circumstances, a definition that is the complete opposite of what the unattainable lover instigates in the narrator s life. The Case Of Feral Children It is essential to realize that isolation from society breeds dehumanization, a proof of that is the case of feral children, the ones who had almost no social contact during their infancy. Ones were even reported to have been raised by wild animals. Take the case of Anna, a girl who had been kept for almost six years in a dark room, barely fed, neglected completely by her mother. When she was discovered, she could not speak, walk, not to mention she was indifferent to everything around her. Her case shows exactly how badly one can be affected by seclusion. However, Silas Marner s situation differs in some respects from the one mentioned previously, since he was an adult. Yet one cannot help but observe the change in his character and way of being, as he even started resembling the things to which he was deeply tied, his loom and his gold. Theories On The Causation Of Homosexuality Running head: CAUSATION OF HOMOSEXUALITY 1 Theories on the Causation of Homosexuality Luke Thomas The University of Alabama CAUSATION OF HOMOSEXUALITY 2 Abstract There are two main schools of thought regarding the causation of homosexuality. The first, which is examined in this research, is biological cause. Three main categories of thought exist under biological theory: hormone theory, brain theory, and genetic theory. Each category contains convincing evidence as to why its respective variations should be attributed to provoking homosexuality. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The study of its causation, however, has been greatly expanded only within past two centuries. Many theories have been formulated to attempt to explain what causes sexual variance, and in particular, homosexuality. These theories can be grouped into two main categories: nature and nurture. The theories which fall under the nature category maintain that homosexual behavior results from biological, innate differences between homosexuals and heterosexuals. The nurture theories, in contrast, state that homosexual tendencies form as a result of one s sociological environment, and that homosexuality is an acquired trait.

Recent research, however, indicates a stronger assumption towards biological causes of homosexuality and leads one to question the validity of the nurture theories in influencing homosexual behavior. Nature Theories Theories crediting homosexual behavior to natural, biological factors take many different routes. The three main subcategories of biological theories include hormone theory, brain theory, and genetic theory. At the start of his career he was influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement and then painted in a manner that could be compared to those of John Sloan, Edward Hopper, Edouard Vuillard or Utrillo. Wood changed his style in 1928 as seen with American Gothic , his masterpiece produced in 1930, which became a much popular painting in the U.S. It represented a couple of farmers in front of their house built in the gothic carpenter style. Such painting revealed the influence of German and Dutch primitive painters regarding the minute treatment of details, notably in the architecture of the farm. It symbolised the life of pioneers. Wood painted the people and landscapes of the Middle West in an idealised way, inspired by his personal universe filled with tales and legends thus paying homage to those people who worked hard without bothering about earning money. Stone City, Iowa was Wood s first major landscape, painted in the same year as the famous American Gothic. At the height of his style, Stone City is also the epitome of Wood s dialogue about change that was often threaded through his traditional subjects. Understood in this tranquil, idealized scene of life in harmony with nature was the knowledge that Stone City itself reflected the transitions brought about in a rural community by industrialization. • 43. Home Front Rationing During the war, people received ration books. The books included the person s name, address, city and state. People were also given ration coins that allowed cashiers to give change for food purchased with ration stamps. People were given these because items during the war were scarce. The first food item s prices that were frozen on the market by the United States Office of Price Administration (OPA) were sugar and coffee. The reason things were rationed was due to little production. Was items were the priority of being produced over household items to help win the war. This meant that everything needed to be rationed for everyone to get their equal share. Sugar, meat, tires, silk, gasoline, shoes, nylon, and more were all rationed to American people. Chicken wire, used for fencing in animals was also being rationed. Pretty much anything you could think of had to be rationed, because the most important focus at the time was the war. The title of Few Nylons meant that women had rations on stockings. Also their clothes were cut down to save material. Their hem and belt width was cut down to two inches. The cuffs on the sleeves of their clothes were no longer allowed. The availability of nylon stockings was scarce.
