Examples Of Cognate Strategies

April 26, 2017 5 Cognate Strategies in Writing
In Chapter 4 we were able to discuss the Rhetorical elements and Cognate strategies that help us as
writers be more effective and efficient. The Cognate strategies were developed by Charles Kostelnick
and David Roberts. The word cognate refers to knowledge, and these strategies are techniques to
impart knowledge to your audience which are effective both in oral and written communication.
The first cognate strategy is Clarity. Many times when we are going to write we have the ideas in our
mind of what we want to share and express to our reader, however the problem is that many times we
do not write it clear enough for the reader to understand what we wanted to say. The words we use, the
structure and the presentation all form how clear we are writing to our ... Show more content on

As a good writer we will naturally develop a relationship with our reader, and the need to make trust
an element is key to that development. The word credibility comes from the word credence, or belief.
Credibility involves your qualities, capabilities, or power to elicit from the audience belief in your
character. Developing a sense of our character and credibility may involve displaying our real us and
our sense of humor, our ability to make our reader laugh or cry, the ability to share our experiences
and get the reader s trust or all the ability to share personal insight into the topic we are discussing. All
of these helps developing character and trust. In my school we develop credibility by doing what we
promise, for example if a parent asks for a letter, we make sure that the letter is completed for when
we said it will be ready. This helps the parents trust us as a school

A Summary Of The Torah And Tao Te Ching
Ancient text like the Torah and Tao Te Ching reveals what it means to be a successful human. ¬There
is a God who oversees the life of humans and determines if they have lived successfully. The Gods
have all the power so it is necessary to get on their good side. The Torah is the story of creation and
the beginning of time. The Tao Te Ching is the great book of the way of virtue. The Torah and Lao
Tzu s Tao Te Ching show that to be a successful human being it is necessary to be loyal to the God
figure in their religion, through following covenants, taking journeys, and being content with what is
given. Being a successful human in both The Torah and Tao Te Ching requires following the greatest
figure in the culture. In the Torah, the Lord ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All they need to do is praise the highest figure and they will be rewarded. Both the story from the
Torah and Tao Te Ching are similar and show the ideal human life because they both have characters
who get rewarded for respecting and follow the highest figure. These show that to be successful, it is a
necessity to follow these Gods.
In addition to following covenants, a successful life includes a journey in honor of someone. Taking a
journey in the honor of someone shows the selflessness in a person and the care they have for others.
Moses was a person in the Torah that was considered a successful person because he took a journey in
honor of another man. The Torah reads, I led you for forty years in the wilderness. Your clothes did
not fall from you in tatters nor your sandals from your feet; (Deuteronomy 29:4). This is the Lord
talking to Moses. Moses took a 40 year journey in honor of the Lord to show his faith towards him
and show he will do whatever he wants of him. The lord keeps Moses safe for these 40 years by not
letting him lose the protection of his clothing. They stayed in tack for 40 years. The Lord went to test
Moses to see if he could withstand this journey. Moses did all that he was asked and was successful
because of his loyalty throughout his Journey. Similarly, in the Tao Te Ching, Lao Tzu writes The
Master gives himself up/ to whatever the moment brings (TTC 50). The Master is

Neo Dalitism In Ramayana
In the Ramayana, Sambhuka, a Sudra who was doing penance was dealt with death penalty by Lord
Rama on the advice of his political council comprising the learned scholars and rishis like Vishvamitra
and Vashishtha. In The Mahabarata even a great rishi Uttanga emitted bad smell of untouchability
when he refused to drink water from a Nishad the disguised Indra, saying that he would prefer to die
than accept water from an untouchable. Eklavya was debarred from the art of archery by the great
guru Drona and he had to pay a heavy price for being a low caste. (Bir Singh Yadav 71)
These literatures not only justify the injustice but glorify it. So Neo Dalitism is to critically
deconstruct and reconstruct from the exploited point of view, the dalit ... Show more content on

Neo Dalitism is to deconstruct the false images of God, Rebirth, Soul, Holy Books, teachings
Separatism, Fate and Heaven created by these literatures. The next step is to construct and try to undo
the damages (though it is not possible to undo the damages but it can be reconstructed as close as
possible). While Dalitism is to clear the ground Neo Dalitism is to reconstruct the ignored or lost
literature.
As after a long illness a patient has to be given not only medicine to cure the disease but must be given
extra nourishment to bring into normal state. While Dalitism is only curing, Neo Dalitism is
diagnosing and curing (deconstruction) the malady and giving extra nourishment (discovering and
reconstructing) to make society healthy. Only medicine cannot make one healthy. The ultimate goal is
not to cure the disease of society but to make it

The Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam
I. Background and Purpose Stephanie Enyart, a visually impaired law school graduate sued to take the
Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam (MPRE) and the Multistate Bar Exam using assistive
software claiming that the denial by the National Conference of Bar Examiners was discriminatory
under the ADA. The software being discussed is JAWS and ZoomText. Stephanie Enyart has been
legally blind since the age of fifteen due to macular degeneration and her disease has continually
worsened since that point. Enyart requires assistive technology to read and has used this in the course
of her educational career including UCLA law school. The assistive technology that works for Enyart
is JAWS and ZoomText. The State Bar of California accepted ... Show more content on

The NCBE appealed the injunction on the basis that Enyart was unlikely to succeed on merits, that she
had now shown irreparable harm from not having the accommodations, and that the injunction is not
in the public s favor. Enyart argued that the inability to use her preferred accommodation caused her
increased eyestrain and nausea that led to her inability to complete the questions in the allotted time.
This meant that her disability had severe impact on her performance on the exam. Despite being
named the prevailing party and the District Court issuing a primary injunction, Enyart had not yet
received her preferred accommodations on the NCBE administered sections of the Multistate Bar
Exam. The NCBE puts forth the claim that the plaintiff, Enyart has not shown that she is likely to
succeed on merit with the accommodations. They also state that Enyart has not shown proof of
irreparable harm having occurred due to not having her preferred accommodations. Furthermore, they
claim that they have provided satisfactory alternate accommodations other than TextZoom and JAWS
by providing access to a reader, audio tapes, braille version of the exam, and CCTV footage all of
which Enyart has used previously as accommodations. Enyart denies these claims under the basis that
she has proven likely to succeed on merit already in district court and that by not having the necessary
accommodations she endured unneeded harm and thus inability to complete the exam. She also

Background
The case of Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka is one of the most profound cases in Canada. Paul
Bernardo is known as a Canadian serial killer and rapist, specifically in the southern Ontario area. He
came from a home of abuse and neglect. Despite his childhood, he graduated from University of
Toronto in the Scarborough area with a commerce and economics degree. This proved that Paul was
an intelligent intellectual who was seen as the average in society. In October of 1987, Paul met Karla
Homolka after recently breaking up with his former girlfriend. At this point in his life he became the
Scarborough rapist who is widely known today. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Within their marriage Karla developed an obsession with pleasing Paul such as fulfilling all of Paul s
sexual and sadistic desires. Due to Karla s obsession with satisfying Paul, she was aware of and went
as far as being involved with the rapes and murders that Paul conducted. The first incident that Karla
participated in, involved her younger sister Tammy Homolka. Paul and Karla drugged and raped
Tammy, during this time she, unfortunately suffocated on her own vomit. All of these actions
originated because Paul had a fetish with virgins, Karla was not a virgin when she met Paul and
therefore he convinced her to let him have sexual encounters with her sister who was a virgin. From
then on Karla was shown to have taken part in many of Paul s erroneous sexual activity involving

Workers Comp Insurance Case Study
4 Situations Where You Could Not Collect Workers Comp
The purpose of workers comp is to give financial protection to employees that become injured while
working for their employer. Unfortunately, not all employees are eligible to receive workers comp. Be
aware of these situations where you would not receive benefits.
When An Employer Does Not Have Workers Comp Insurance
Some employers are not required to purchase workers comp insurance. This is because each state has
their own laws concerning which businesses must purchase the insurance.
For instance, in the state of New York, a small partnership owned by one or two people doesn t need to
purchase workers comp insurance. In North Carolina, a business is only required to have workers
comp insurance if there are at least 3 employees, and at least 10 employees if it is an agricultural ...

They have their own compensation act that will give an injured employee benefits, no matter where
the injury occurred, as long as they were performing a function of their job while receiving a federal
government paycheck. The compensation act also covers any occupational diseases that are sustained
over multiple days or shifts.
When You Are Employed As A Harbor or Longshore Worker
There are some occupations that also have their own compensation acts, such as those that are
employed as a longshore or harbor worker. This covers employees that are responsible for loading,
offloading, and securing ships, as well as ship builders. If injured on the job, the compensation act has
their own process for receiving benefits that would make you ineligible for workers comp.
Keep in mind that you may work in that job field, but still qualify for workers comp benefits. This
includes office workers that are not doing the manual labor.
If you have questions about a workers comp case, speak with a lawyer in your area for a

The Negative Effects Of Special Education In Schools
In the last 15 years, arts education programs have been under constant threat. Some blame this on the
No Child Left Behind law, passed in 2001, that placed focus on core subjects such as math or
language. Others point to the steady education budget cuts by each state. Whatever the cause, cutting
arts education classes affects every student but special education students are the ones most impacted.
While it is well known that cutting these programs can have negative effects; some of which are lower
test scores, lower attendance rates, and higher disciplinary rates. What is less known is the many ways
the arts play an important role in special education. Weather its intergrated as part of classroom
curriculum or taught separately it builds confidence, helps integrate them with typically developing
peers, enhances communication, and builds problem solving skills. All of this in an environment that
is the only place (in school) where uniqueness and individuality are celebrated (Andrus 10).
The No Child Left Behind Act was intended to create equitable educational opportunities for all
students, and close achievement gaps among different groups of students (Spohn 3). Under this act,
schools would receive federal funding if their students tested proficient in math and reading. Their test
scores must also show adequate yearly progress. With such importance being placed on the often
standardized test, some districts are extending instruction time for tested subjects. To make

Symptoms And Treatment Of The Blood Brain Barrier
There are many expecting mothers who suffer from serious mental illnesses like schizophrenia,
bipolar disorder, or borderline personality disorder that requires they must take antipsychotic drugs to
remain stable. There are different types of antipsychotics like typical and atypical. Typical
antipsychotics are classified as the first generation of antipyschotics. The atypical antipsychotics, the
second generation, are reported to be safer than the typical antipsychotics because they are the newer
form of antipsychotic medication. Even though they are reported to be safer, they still have severe side
effects on the individual consuming it, like tardive dyskinesia, which are uncontrollable movements of
the mouth (McCauley et al., 2009). Some drugs can affect the fetus by transferring to the blood brain
barrier. The blood brain barrier is a permeable barrier that allows some chemicals to pass through. It
separates the circulating blood from the brain extracellular fluid in the central nervous system. The
blood brain barrier also transports molecules to the brain that are essential to function properly, like
glucose and amino acids. Since capillary endothelial cells, which line the whole circulatory system,
form the blood brain barrier the medication could be transported to the fetus. From

Gender Deviance In Sweetheart Of The Song Tra Bong
Does deviating from one s gender norms inevitably doom one down a spiral of moral corruption? Tim
O Brien, author of Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong and Ernest Hemingway, author of The Short
Happy Life of Francis Macomber , certainly seem to hold this view, as evident by the fates of the
major female characters in their respective works. The deviance of the major female characters in both
works appears to corrupt not only themselves, but also pollute their partners, causing them to suffer
injury or harm as a result. The degree of injury ranges from negligible, like Fossie s demotion and
broken heart, to fatal, like the bullet that rips through Macomber s skull. It begs the question, are these
stories meant to serve as cautionary tales for their female readers, or possibly for their husbands, so
they may recognize gender deviance and stop it in its tracks before their wives transform into Margot
Macomber or Mary Anne Bell? This essay will analyze what such characters say about pervading
views of women, both in society and in literature.
At the end of Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong , Mark Fossie gazes upon his previously demure and
sweet girlfriend as a demon, surrounded by carnage, a necklace of shriveled human tongues around
her neck as she stands barefoot in the hootch of the Green Berets. The male reader is meant to resonate
with Mark s horror and be terrified of Mary Anne s feral transformation. The pure, sweet, socially
conforming to be wife has been corrupted by

Some Boys By Patty Blount Analysis
Patty Blount, an American author, once said Some boys go too far. Some boys will break your heart,
but one can mend it . The novel, Some Boys is a story written by Patty Blount. It manifests the
importance of respect and love and the potency to stand firm for yourself. The book follows the lives
of two young high school teenagers; Grace Collier often labeled a liar, and Ian Russell, known as the
Rejuvenator and the Protector of Grace. Back then, Grace Collier was the girl that everyone would
consistently look at. With her studded and beaded jewelry, her well known combat boots, and her
eyeliner it was hard not to stare. Everything changed when Grace had gotten sexually assaulted by the
captain of the lacrosse team, Zac McMahon. Raped ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Zac and Ian are talking with each other and Zac gets frustrated at Ian when he opts to stick by Grace s
side instead of his. Then Zac expresses, I m pissed because you defended her, man! The girl who s
telling everyone I m a psycho rapist. (Blount 155). This part of the book is in Ian s perspective. When
Ian and Zac were hanging out, he learned that people around the school are calling him a rapist and
that Grace and Ian had fallen in love with each other. When the book is in Ian s perspective, it is clear
that he is endeavoring to understand both sides of the story. Ian s view is that something lousy
transpired, causing drama to compose in Grace s life, but he doesn t know who to believe at first. Ian
then decides to heedfully listen to Grace s point of view and ultimately finds her side of the story more
believable before even hearing Zac s side. Zac gets pissed at this as they are supposed to be best
friends, and he is meant to be supporting him and taking his side rather than Grace s. He saw Grace
get hurt from the conflict she is facing, so he feels that he has made the right decision, but it will
continue to bother Zac. It is clear that Ian is in love with Grace at this point. He ultimately is
endeavoring to believe her but feels that it is important to be there for his best friend. After all,
listening to his side can help in solving this issue. Ian and Zac are with each other, talking about the
fact that everyone is calling him a rapist. I ll see it from your point of view too, and maybe stop calling
you a rapist (Blount #?). Even though Ian loves Grace, he is disposed to do whatever it takes to be
there for his best friend even if he has hurt the girl he cares for. He feels he requires to listen to his
perspective too so that people understand what has happened. Since this is in Ian s view, his opinions

Pan s Labyrinth Themes
Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane A child s imagination is the most powerful weapon he or she can be
armed with and it is within Guillermo Del Toro s captivating and Academy Award winning film, Pan s
Labyrinth that we are presented with this concept as well as themes of existentialism and duality.
Various motifs such as; brutality, innocence, childhood and war, allow Del Toro to construct two
worlds that are all too real and very similar for one young girl. Set in Spain 1944 during a time when
people are forced to choose between their beliefs and their survival, Ofelia (Ivana Baquero) is
compelled to choose her faith in fantasies over her hope in humanity. Ofelia is in a battle of good vs.
evil vs. innocence and must realize that all three cannot thrive. The opening and ending scenes of Del
Toro s film show Ofelia s birth, death and rebirth while simultaneously providing the answers to the

intentionally so that Ofelia s character could be judged properly. It is much harder to say no when
temptation presents itself in a beautiful form. Ofelia s good nature and pure heart would be revealed in
this moment and this was something del Toro wanted to exemplify. Ending a film with a child dying is
disturbing however; del Toro chooses to make her death about redemption since she regained her
innocence through death (i.e. rebirth). Ofelia would be born again and assume her role as Princess of
the fantasy realm she desperately desired to be apart of. The final shot of Ofelia mirrors the opening

The Rhetorical Analysis Of Aung San Suu Kyi
Aung San Suu Kyi is a visionary that fights for Burma, her country, believing that people should fight
for democracy and freedom through non violent movements. She had a clear knowledge of her
government and the government that she wanted for her people. As Aung Dan Suu said, it is not power
that corrupts but fear. Fear of losing power corrupts those who wield it and fear of the scourge of
power corrupts those who are subject to it (page 682). In order to bring this matter to the reader s
attention, Aung San Suu employs several rhetorical strategies. She uses the three main rhetorical
devices: ethos, pathos, and logos to provide expert opinions on the subject. Through the text Freedom
from fear , she made her ideas clear and define for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Aung San Suu demonstrates ethos in her speech by contrasting her father with the pacifism of Gandhi
by stating: The words used by Jawaharlal Nehru to describe Mahatma Gandhi could be applied to
Aung San. (page684). She uses that allusion to show her admiration for Gandhi, whom she identifies
as Abhaya , the absence of fear from the mind. Aung San Suu strongly supports his immense
contribution to human rights, peace, and non violent resistance to fight oppression. She uses Gandhi as
an example to persuade the reader that, just like him, she is worthy of trust and respect. She wants to
show them that she has the same beliefs, same ideology as Gandhi, whom with his moral and methods
brought down imperialism, colonialism and dictatorships. Kyi even continues to say that there is an
inevitable sameness when she compares Gandhi to her father. A lot of attention focused on her because
she is the daughter of once an influential man, so she knows that if she talks about him they would
have no problem as to follow her. When it comes to her thoughts about Burma s governments, Kyi
shows a good amount of planning and knowledge when talking about economic growth. She states
that: Public dissatisfaction with economic hardships has been seen as the chief cause of the movement
in Burma, sparked off by the student demonstrations of 1988. (page682).

Nature Vs. Nurture Discussion
Millions of children start new lives every day. The process of their development has always been of
question to us; we are completely unaware of the exact processes that they go through. Human
psychologist continue to ponder the dispute of whether the factors that structure a human are
biological or circumstantial. Several contradicting theories have been made about the nature versus
nurture discussion. Through personal experience and being an older sibling, I am able to clearly
analyze and make my own conclusions. I believe that nurture is the dominating force compared to
nature. Nature refers to the inherited traits. Each human being has roughly 100,000 genes that create
the physical characteristics of a child. The genes are only responsible for fostering traits such as blue
eyes, brown hair, and skin color. In addition, nature is also responsible for passing on genes that
contain diseases such as alzheimer s and even certain cancers. On the other hand, nurture refers to the
environmental factors that influence a person. Nature is the superior force in the creation of
personality and distinct and individualized characters because each person perceives events
differently. After our brains perceive different events, we either produce dopamine (pleasure) or
register in our cortex to not do the same thing again. A common example used by psychologists is the
hot stove; if you get hurt by touching a hot stove, it is highly likely that you will never do it again.

An Evaluation Of An Auditory Brainstem Response
An auditory brainstem response is an electrical potential generated from the changes in neural activity
when an acoustic stimulus is presented into the ear. Stimuli in the form of clicks, tonebursts or chirps
are transmitted through a transducer and measured using surface electrodes positioned on the scalp.
The elicited waveform response consists of 7 waves that occur within a period of 10ms after the
presented stimuli. Each waveform peak is labeled from I VII where each wave corresponds to a neural
generator within the auditory pathway. Just like other auditory evoked potentials such as the middle
latency response, the response depends relatively on the pathological factors, non pathological factors,
acquisition parameters, stimulus parameters as well as the noise and interference. Consequently, this
has meant that a great deal of research has been conducted into investigating these potential effects on
the ABR, especially as it is commonly used in clinical practice such as for evaluating retrocochlear
pathology, detecting permanent childhood hearing loss in newborn hearing screens and intraoperative
monitoring during surgery. These findings usually influence the test conditions used in protocols and
guidance for clinical practice. Whilst previous literature focus their experiments in order to find a
significant difference in the ABR waveform, very few studies explore what these parameters and
factors have on the quality aspect of the recording. This study will primarily

Critique Of Noonan Argument Essay
In this article, Noonan discusses the controversial topic of abortion. He examines questions such as
how do you determine the humanity of a being? His thesis is that abortion is always morally wrong
with the exception of extreme circumstances such as a cancerous uterus or ectopic pregnancy. He uses
the assumption that a fetus is always a person, from conception on as opposed to believing the fetus is
not a person at any point. In this paper, I will show that Noonan proves his thesis that abortion is
always morally wrong, based on proving opposing arguments to be unsound. Noonan s argument to
prove that abortion is morally wrong:
1. A human conceptus is a human being.
2. If a human conceptus is a human being, then it is morally wrong to harm it.
3. If it is morally wrong to harm a human conceptus , then abortion is wrong except where the mother
s life is in danger
4. Therefore, abortion is wrong except where the mother s life is in danger
Noonan focuses a majority of his argument on the assumption that a human conceptus is a human
being. Many of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After he has proven the opposing arguments to be unsound, he begins to focus more on probability as
a factor. There is a four out of five chance that a fetus will develop into a baby. If the probability of
development were different, there would be a considerable difference in the argument against
abortion. He uses the example of shooting at a movement from a bush. If there was only a
200,000,000 to 1 chance of the movement being a human, then shooting would not seem so bad.
However, if there was a four out of five chance of it being a human, shooting seems absurd. The same
theory of probability applies to abortion. Since there is an 80 percent chance of a baby developing
from the fetus, it is morally wrong to harm that fetus without a sufficient reason, such as cancerous
uterus or ectopic

The Falling Soldier Robert Capa Analysis
There are a lot of questions being raised about the authenticity of the Falling Soldier [9]. Some
historians went back to the war site to investigate the place and found no major battle being taking
place between the two parties at Cerro. The Spanish newspaper: El Periódico de Catalunya sent
reporter to verify the location of the photo and it matches perfectly with the Robert Capa s photo. To
this day, there are still a lot of disputes about the authenticity of Robert Capa s Falling Soldier.
Whether or not the Falling Soldier was staged or actual picture of the war, everyone has learned a
lesson from Robert Capa. We learned that war is brutal, people have to sacrifice their lives to obtain
their freedom. Robert Capa learned his lesson of freedom ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The process of getting these photos are extremely hard for Robert as he joined the 16th Infantry
Regiment of the 1st Infantry division of the allies force in the second wave of assault[11]. The
temperature of water on D Day is forty five to fifty degree, and Robert Capa has to submerge himself
into the water to hide from the fire. Not to mention the possible danger of a grenade or heavy artillery
from the Nazi. In most war photographer eyes, the assignment is nearly a suicide mission. Robert
Capa have to go in front of the allies soldier in order to capture the most realistic photo of D Day. One
of the photos that caught most people s attention is the one with an American GI moving toward
Omaha Beach. The picture depicted a soldier moving forward with his weapon moving slowly
towards the beach. The background of the photo consists of debris from aircrafts and boat; however
the photo was not focused due to the nature of war photograph. Through the picture, it shows how
intense D Day was and how brutal war is against other sides of the army. The American GI had no
facial expression at all and saved focus his attention on the enemy on the beach, which proves this to
be the very true moment of war and not staged photography. As a war photographer, Robert Capa is
always trying to get closer and closer to the subject to present the true moment of war and people. He
once said If your pictures aren t good enough, you aren t close enough (Capa).[12] The close to
subject technique is employed in a lot of Robert Capa s photographs, including the famous D Day
photographs of the allies forces. He goes closer to the subject than any photographers because he
understands if order to depict the true moment of war and educate people, he has to take the extra
steps to push his photographs to that level. In his D Day photo, the people

Short-Term and Long-Term Memory Loss
Forgetting in Short Term and Long Term Memory: The memory of human beings is similar to that of
computers because it allows individuals to store information for later or future use. However, the
storage of information in humans involves three major processes i.e. encoding, storage, and retrieval.
The encoding process basically involves transforming data into meaningful form like association with
an existing image, memory, or sound. This is followed by holding on to the information through a
physiological change, which is the actual storage of the information. The final stage in this process is
retrieval where the stored information is brought out, which is a reversal of the encoding process (
Memory, Intelligence, and States of Mind , 2011). Since humans are more complex, they have three
different memory storage abilities i.e. sensory memory, short term memory, and long term memory.
Short Term and Long Term Memory: Short term memory is the process with which information in the
sensory memory is transferred to a person s awareness or consciousness. The information becomes
currently active in the individual like talking to a friend, reading an article, or writing a paper. While
short term memory lasts longer then sensory memory, it still has very limited capacity (Cowan, 2009).
In contrast, long term memory is relatively permanent and virtually unlimited with regards to storage
capacity. The permanence of this type of memory storage capability originates from the fact

Horace Mann Influence On American Education
All schools in the twenty first century are different from each other, may it be how much a student
learns, preparedness for after school, and teaching methods and philosophies of education. Some
schools are on the direction students to work in education, while others are geared to become future
doctors, lawyers, and business leaders. Horace Mann between 1837 and 1848, became the best known
educator in America, and the best known American educator throughout the world. He had a vision for
what the future of America s education should look like today, and today s education does not fulfill

Lumber Kings of the 19th Century John R. Booth and Frederick Weyerhaeuser
John Rudolphus Booth (1827 1925) and Frederick Weyerhaeuser (1843 1914) were two well known
entrepreneurs of the North American lumber industry in the 19th century. They are very contrasting
characters that appear to have nothing in common. They are from different parts of the world; Booth is
Canadian and Weyerhaeuser is German. They did not share the same faith or educational background.

land along the Mississippi River. Weyerhaeuser and his partner took on sixteen other partners to form
the Mississippi River Logging Company and by 1870 he was elected president of this company.

Diffusion, Osmosis and Active Transport
This is an individual study investigating the process of diffusion, osmosis and active transport. To start
you should know that substances are moving in and out of cells of your body all the time. To
understand and make sense of the cells of your body, you need to know about the process of diffusion,
osmosis and active transport.
All organisms need to exchange particles such as food, waste, gas and heat with their surroundings.
there are two different types of ways in which substances can enter or/and leave a cell. these ways are
called Passive and Active. with in these there are different processes for example, in passive process
there are diffusion, facilitated diffusion and osmosis and in the active process there is molecule and
particle. in this assignment I am going to discuss all of these processes starting with diffusion.
diffusion is one of the passive transport processes. it is used in oxygen entering a cell and carbon
dioxide leaving a cell. diffusion is the movement of particles such as atoms or molecules from a high
concentration place in an area of a low concentration. this shows that they diffuse down the
concentration gradient. the concentration gradient is a gradual change in the concentration of solutes
in a solution as a function of distance through a solution. in biology a gradient results from an unequal
distribution of particles across the cell membrane. When this happens solutes move along the
concentration gradient until the concentration of the

Analysis Of Perfection Wasted By John Updike
What We Lose Through Death of Others
An Explication of John Updike s Perfection Wasted
This poem dramatizes the conflict between losing someone s personality through death and the magic
within our own separate worlds. In the poem personality is the most important part of life because it
cannot be replicated by any person in the world because every person s personality is different and
unique in its own way. The personality that is shown in the poem is that the speaker is happy and full
of magic. John Updike uses this poem to tell a story through mostly imagery. The impression I
received throughout the entire poem is the cycle of life.
The author of this poem, John Updike was born on March 18, 1932 and died on January 27, 2009. He
was influenced by several different people such as: William Shakespeare, James Joyce, Marcel Proust,
John Barth, and many other people. One of his famous quotes that I like is [d]reams come true;
without that possibility, nature would not incite us to have them. John Updike wrote many different
things. He wrote short stories, poems, and novels. John Updike s inspiration came from all over. All of
the people that inspired him came from different places.
The main theme in this poem is that one s ways or personality cannot be remade by someone. People
can imitate what a person does or how a person acts, but they will never be able to replicate it one
hundred percent. The speaker in this poem talks about how when someone dies their personality will
be lost forever because it cannot be reperformed by someone else, not even their closest friends or
family members. Imitators and descendants aren t the same. (Line 14) A person can be near someone
for twenty four hours a day, seven days a week, fifty two weeks in a year and still not be them exactly.
When someone dies, there will be glimpses of them in others that they have touched through their
actions, but they will never fully see them in just one single person. They work on making the most
perfect personality for themselves throughout their entire life just to see that when they die it dies with
them. When someone works this hard on something they do not want it to end. They make people
happy by using it, they help people by using

Noise Sensor Essay
Abstract In this Paper, issues related to noise sensor application of instrumentation amplifier through
substrate coupling in system on chip design are described and demonstrated including the physical
phenomenon responsible for its creation, coupling transmission mechanism and media, parameter
affecting coupling strengths and its impact on mixed signal integrated circuits. Basic aim is to find out
magnitude of interference happening when analog and digital circuit is placed nearby on a common
substrate. It has been design to have a broad bandwidth (1 KHz to 1MHz) with very high CMRR to
cancel out the unwanted noise at its both inputs and deliver single output. MOSFET capacitors are
used for the picking of substrate interference.
Key words CMOS, , noise sensor, Substrate Coupling, Guard Banding.
Introduction
The wireless sensor network is applicable in numerous life saving critical field because of low cost
long battery life sensors. A sensor network comprises of sensors and routers to choose the
administrator host that is called the coordinator [2]. A wireless sensor network is easy to use in the
desired environment [6], and the information can be collected then processed and sent to a desired
location. Recent break trough in wireless communication and micro electro mechanical systems
(MEMS) [3 5] provides large scale, low power, multi functional, and low cost network

Led Burning Essay
Retrofitting your home with LED Lighting If you re building or renovating and installing new light
fittings, you will no doubt have noticed that almost all new light fittings these days implement LEDs
(Light Emitting Diodes). LEDs, unlike the incandescent light bulbs that lit our homes for almost a
century, produce light via a chemical reaction. Incandescent lamps produce light by passing an
electrical current through a wire (tungsten) filament until it heats to high heat and glows almost white.
This is the reason incandescent bulbs produce the warm glow to which we have become accustomed
and, perhaps, even expect in our living areas after dark. A major advantage of LED lighting is that it
takes less energy to create the chemical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without some ventilation, the small amount of heat produced will be trapped and may cause the bulb
to fail. As with incandescent bulbs, LED bulbs come with different base options. Some of the most
common are: E27 standard screw in fitting B22 standard bayonet fitting E14 small screw in fitting
GU10 two broad pins with flattened ends MR16 two narrow pins The below chart may help you
identify the base fittings you need. Colour Temperature Put simply, colour temperature is the degree of
warmth (yellow redness) of the light emitted from the bulb. The colour of an incandescent bulb is
usually warm white and most LED bulbs do a good job of reproducing light in this spectrum. Since
LEDs don t produce light from heating a filament, they come in a wide range of other colours. For the
home warm white, pure white (similar in colour to cool white fluorescent tubes), and natural white
(somewhere between warm and pure white) are the commonly found colour temperatures. Which to
use is largely a matter of preference. Some thirty years ago, when I commenced work in the lighting
industry, cool white was considered useful only in commercial premises or certain work areas of the
home (i.e. garages, workshops and laundry rooms). These days cooler colours such as pure white and
natural white can bee seen throughout the home. Personally, I prefer warm white in living areas such
as living rooms and bedrooms. It is

Iran Blast To The Past
Iran, formerly known as Persia, is a country that has been molded by various events and traditions.
With their customs they have created a legal system that reflects ours here in the United States but also
keeps their religion and culture involved as well. From 1979 and on, after the monarchy was
abolished, Iran has developed a strict criminal justice system. Their historical and political background
will be discussed, as well as their policing and court systems.
A Blast to the Past
As mentioned above, Iran was called Persia until 1935. In 1979, it became an Islamic Republic after
the revolution. Monarchy was also abolished during this time. Rewinding back to 550 BC, Iranian
empires were ruling locations such as Egypt, the Mediterranean and some places in Europe. In AD
633, the Zoroastrian religion was replaced by Islam after the Arabs arrived. Bringing it back to how
they run the place now legally, it is based off of sacred law, which is called Islamic law. This just
means they follow a sacred text to live their lives. They follow the shari a law which is the body of

Plato s Summary Of The Soul-City In The Republic
Plato s analogy of the Soul City in the republic proposes to examine justice at the communal level
instead of at the individual level. He does this due to the complexities that come with the individual. It
is difficult to observe encompassing ideas such as justice through something that is not fully
understood by the individual itself. Comparatively, the political community is created by the
individual which allows for better understanding, making it a better agent for this examination. This
analogy created by Plato is of foundational importance for areas of academia where logic plays a part.
This analogy creates 2 important precedents in the field of philosophy. The first is the permission to
compare large ideas and forms regardless of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He does this in an attempt to identify similarities between justice of the individual and justice of the
community. After some attempts to observe existing cities, Plato realized that the cities which existed
at that time were not fully just, rather they had elements of justice and injustice, making them
inadequate settings to examine. To accurately examine justice in the city, they decide to speak in the
hypothetical and create an ideal city. This imagined city contains unequivocal goodness and justice.
Plato speaks about the virtues that exist in the ideal city: wisdom, courage, moderation, and justice.
These virtues become directly related to the individual. Wisdom is the virtue of the ruler, courage the
virtue of the soldier, moderation the virtue of the producer. This is where the idea of the soul city
analogy starts to come full circle as Plato claims that in order for these virtues to exist in the city they
must exist in the individual with connected virtues. To do this he breaks down the individual soul into
three parts. The intellect connected to wisdom, the spirit connected to courage, and

There was no eighteen inch gap between the head and the heart like in the Western mindset, but a
place where the emotions, mind, and will operated in harmony The soul denoted the place of desire
and longing. The Psalmists describe this well. How lovely is your dwelling place, O LORD of hosts!
My soul longs, yes, faints for the courts of the LORD. My heart and flesh sing for joy to the living
God (Ps 84:1 2). And in Psalm 42:1 As the deer pants for flowing streams, so my soul thirsts for God,
for the living God. It is the place of deep longing and desire that must be filled to go on living.
The strength to love God was not in power, might, or physical ability, but to love exceedingly, greatly,
to the fullest extent. This could be retranslated as You shall love the LORD with your choices and
plans, with your emotions and what you desire and long for. And you shall do this to the fullest extent

Advantages Of Electric Fly Killers
How effective are electric fly killers in killing flying insects?
Nowadays, there are always flying insects that are wandering around in a certain place and people
seem to be having a very hard time catching them and killing them at the same time. These flies are a
nuisance to every person because nobody would want to have flies in the house. People would find
these flying insects flying around mostly in their homes, however, they cannot seem to find the source
of this problem. This has occurred every year and yet, people could not find the source of these
problems. Some factors that could be affecting this problem is the change in weather of every month
or season, things that are dirty that may attract flies, etc. The magnitude of this problem may increase
if a solution is not implemented to solve this problem as soon as possible.

play a huge impact on solving this issue. The second benefit is that similarly, electric fly killers allow
people to eliminate flying insects with few chemicals and not much personal involvement. There is no
health risk when it does not come to handling the electric fly killers, nor there any risk of disturbing or
a nest or facing an insect that people fear. Electric fly killers are out of the way and it has limited
personal involvement, so people would not need to involve in anything when it comes to using electric

The Invisible Coin Introduction Summary Essay
The Invisible Coin Introduction summary: Since its insertion into the mainstream world, Bitcoin, a
virtual decentralized currency, has fully fledged in both its status and in its use. Despite this, there still
endures a relative lack of economic exploration in academia about this innovative economic
phenomenon. Bitcoin is an online currency that does not require a bank account, credit card or any
personal information. Bitcoin stays clear of the roads that are most travelled ; the catch though is you
re no longer backed by any government. Bitcoin doesn t have a central bank or a countries leadership
vouching for its authenticity. Bitcoin is unique; Bitcoin is the opposite of what we normally would
think of a currency, so maybe that s why it took some time for it to lift up in the early stages. Nobel
Prize winner Milton Friedman in 1999 once spoke out and said, The one thing that s missing, but will

development for the world market. The beginning of Bitcoin is not exactly easy to fully document

published via online with the name of Satoshi Nakamoto . That paper was titled Bitcoin, a Peer to Peer

loses the potential energy it gains kinetic energy. Kinetic energy came along because of its high speed.
The mathematical equation for this is initial kinetic energy plus initial potential energy plus external
work equals final kinetic energy plus final potential energy. To find work the equation is force times
distance. To find power the equation is work divided by time. As you crest the top of the tower, enjoy
your free moment of weightless and the overview of the park. But don t get two comfortable, because
it s time to do what a drop tower does best drop you! The Giant Drop opened December 26,1998. The
height of the Giant Drop is 119m (390ft). The actual drop of the ride will be about 115m (377m). The
capacity of the ride is 550 riders per hour. You will be 227 foot tower, and 20 stories in the air. You are
falling 62 adrenaline charged miles per hours. The magnetic brakes on the Giant Drop is frictionless
making the ride a lot smoother. The duration of the drop is 45 seconds long. Getting at the top of the
Giant Drop and Dropping can take up to 1 minute and 30 seconds long . Its maximum speed is 62

from the air. The Giant Drop contain kinetic energy plus potential energy equals up to mechanical

What Is A Gap Years Essay
A gap year was once just a privilege for the people of luxury and wealthy backgrounds, who s mummy
and daddy would send them of for the time of their lives. They would travel to poor countries and help
build houses and schools for the ones in need for a few weeks. Then spend the rest of the year going to
beaches and parties. They have changed the lives of many and had the time of their lives.
Some people think that gap years are for the people of luxury and upper class as they are so expensive
that even the working class can t afford it. Take Louise Linton for example, she is a actress who went
on a gap year to volunteer in Zambia, she got a lot of backlash at the fact that she was of upper class
and posted that she was hiding from a group of armed rebels and she didn t want to think what the
rebels would do to the skinny white Muzungu with long angel hair if they found me. and the only
thing that got her through the ruff times was the smiling gap toothed child with HIV whose greatest
joy was to sit on my lap and drink from a bottle of Coca Cola. on twitter, Gerard Zytkow, claimed to

Young people can be exhausted after years of school and hard work and just need a break. Gap years
are a chance to explore and learn new cultures, experience struggles and make life changing decisions
and meet new people. It gives the young person a year to mature and grow up as they might have
always had everything done for you. It gives them the chance to learn how to look after themself by
learning how to cook and become independent. It can also help the person come to a conclusion on
what you might want to do in life, college or university as it gives them a year to take time to think
about what they love and would maybe like to do in the future. A gap year will also help them in the
future as they might come across something while volunteering or working abroad what they never
knew they

Essay on Comparing Arnold Schwarzenegger and Adolf Hitler
Comparing Arnold Schwarzenegger and Adolf Hitler
To learn history means to seek and find the forces which are the causes leading to those effects which
we subsequently perceive as historical events. Adolf Hitler Growing up poor in a small town in
Austria he had dreams of becoming famous; some would even say this dream soon became an
obsession. This fascination soon engulfed his life, viewing his goals as a catalyst for a better life. After
a brief stint in the army he pursued this dream and learned to use propaganda as a springboard to
achieve a high ranking position in a political party. This political party was currently in power in the
country he had immigrated to in his twenties, a country he could now call his own. Two ... Show more

The Background
I believe today that I am acting in the sense of the Almighty Creator. By warding off the Jews I am
fighting for the Lord s work. Adolf Hitler
To fully understand the views expressed in this paper, it is necessary to understand Adolf Hitler and to
provide context as to why Schwarzenegger is being compared to what many believe to be the
embodiment of evil itself. This section of the paper will focus on the background of both states:
California and Nazi Germany.
In 1929 Germany was hit with the final blow to an already struggling nation; the Great Depression.
Black Tuesday hit Germany in the midst of a naval blockade, extreme hyperinflation, and poverty for
many Germans. Many historians believe that the blockade against Germany was the main reason for
the rise of Nazism and consequently World War II. Regardless, Germany was in a time of crisis and in
desperate need of salvation.
In 2003, California, while not suffering from the same magnitude of crisis as pre Nazi Germany, was
by no means experiencing prosperity. California was in the midst of an extreme unbalance: suffering
from a massive debt, a governor who seemed unable to help, and increasing unemployment. Residents
were exhausted of false promises made by former governors and looking for change. A recall was
ordered on Governor

The Polaris Cafe
Marketing Case Analysis of
The Polaris Café
The case presented involves the Polaris Cafe located in New Brunswick, New Jersey. The Polaris Café
was founded by four partners: Ben Reynolds, responsible for marketing and public relations; Kyle
Roman, the overall manager; Sid Carter, responsible for the financial management, potential investors,
and obtaining bank loans; and Dominick Trioli, responsible for payroll and purchasing. New
Brunswick is a college town, home to Rutgers University and several large corporations, such as
Johnson Johnson.
The partners have chosen to sign a long term lease in a newly constructed building that will house

By freeing up payroll dollars I would hire an experienced accountant that would provide better
projections based on more accurate data. I feel an experienced accountant that had worked in the food
service industry would have been able to advise them that they did not need to budget on a yearly
sales forecast that was divided by 52 weeks in the year. This shows poor budgeting skills because they
are trying to obtain a heavy student mix and the students are not in the area for the entire year.
Financial forecasting is such an integral part of any successful start up business and there are major
issues with the way it has been done.
I would also look at the existing data from sales to see if the original market segmentation has
followed through to the actual sales numbers. With the influx of students during the school year and
the absence of students over the holidays and summer, if the tapas area is not producing the necessary
sales then the restaurant might need to devote more space to the fine dining establishment. As it
currently stands, the tapas bar is composed of 75% of the floor space, except in the summer when it
commands 80% of the floor space, which includes the patio area. The fine dining area is limited to
only 25% of the sales, except during the summer when it

Classical Characteristics Of Baroque Art
Beginning with the Baroque period, the Baroque was an art movement in the 17th and early 18th
century which comes after the Renaissance before the Enlightenment, Neoclassicism. It s origins, like
renaissance art, were in Italy and the historical context really have is two historical movements that
are associated with the Baroque. First, the Counter Reformation and second, Absolutism. As far as the
Baroque tradition it represents a rejection of renaissance restraint. When looking at the School of
Athens by Raphael, we can see this very technically perfect painting from the Renaissance where it
looks like it could ve been posed for which is what renaissance art is, restraint, that you are supposed
to think about balance in the composition, and you re supposed to hold something back. Renaissance
art was not very emotional. One thing we should note is this painting of Aneas Fleeing Burning Troy
by Federico Baroccci, is not restraint. We see a bunch of running around, burning fires, it s not
balanced, and there s more action, but at the same time we still see this framework of classical themes.
When looking at Baroque art, we ll still be able to see themes that are very religious or grounded in
the Greco Roman classical traditions. More characteristics of Baroque art we can see are motion,
emotion, grandeur, and contrast. A piece of work where we can see almost all of these characteristics
would be St. Michael the Archangel by Guido Reni. We see St. Michael trampling the devil,

Essay about The Signs and Effects of Autism
The Signs and Effects of Autism
Autism is a rare disease that has been noticed for centuries. The purest form of autism (high IQ and
almost normal behavior yet still self contained) occurs in about one in 2,000 people . When the many
other forms of autism are added in, the ratio is one in 750 . Autism is found in every race, ethnic
group, nation, and social standing, although males outnumber females by four or five times ( Autistic
Disorder 2). Autism is a broad range of disorders that stretch from mild to severe. There are many
theories on the cause of autism, but no definite solution. Because of the broadness of the disease, there
are many types and categories. The effects of autism are frustrating, and hard to ... Show more content

Evidence that genetics is an important, but not exclusive cause, of so called primary autism includes a
three to eight percent risk of recurrence in families with one affected child (Rapin, Isabelle 100).
Autism isn t just one disease but a category of complicated syndromes. Three of the most definable
syndromes are Rett s, Asperger s, and Landua Kleffner. Rett s syndrome is only found in females and
most are retarded. This syndrome develops between the ages of six months to eighteen months. Rett s
begins with a normal state of development, then the victim regresses in skills such as speech, hand
movements, and social skills, along with other signs of central nervous system dysfunction. Females
with Rett s are most prone to having seizures. Asperger s syndrome is affective in both males and
females. After the first few years of life, victims will lose everything they have learned, but will
eventually progress again. People with Asperger s appear to have more verbal and recognition skills.
They also usually show strong interest in subway, bus, and train schedules and maps.
Asperger s syndrome is probably the closest to primary autism . Landua Kleffner syndrome is also
found in males and females. Victims with this

disorder appear normal until between the ages of three to seven, which is when regression is
noticeable. They lose the ability to talk and show

  • 2. Examples Of Cognate Strategies 5 Cognate Strategies in Writing University of the People In partial fulfillment of the requirements for BUS 1105 BUS 1105: BUSINESS COMMUNICATIONS ________________________________________ Instructor: Rita Ogbeama April 26, 2017 5 Cognate Strategies in Writing In Chapter 4 we were able to discuss the Rhetorical elements and Cognate strategies that help us as writers be more effective and efficient. The Cognate strategies were developed by Charles Kostelnick and David Roberts. The word cognate refers to knowledge, and these strategies are techniques to impart knowledge to your audience which are effective both in oral and written communication. The first cognate strategy is Clarity. Many times when we are going to write we have the ideas in our mind of what we want to share and express to our reader, however the problem is that many times we do not write it clear enough for the reader to understand what we wanted to say. The words we use, the structure and the presentation all form how clear we are writing to our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a good writer we will naturally develop a relationship with our reader, and the need to make trust an element is key to that development. The word credibility comes from the word credence, or belief. Credibility involves your qualities, capabilities, or power to elicit from the audience belief in your character. Developing a sense of our character and credibility may involve displaying our real us and our sense of humor, our ability to make our reader laugh or cry, the ability to share our experiences and get the reader s trust or all the ability to share personal insight into the topic we are discussing. All of these helps developing character and trust. In my school we develop credibility by doing what we promise, for example if a parent asks for a letter, we make sure that the letter is completed for when we said it will be ready. This helps the parents trust us as a school ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Summary Of The Torah And Tao Te Ching Ancient text like the Torah and Tao Te Ching reveals what it means to be a successful human. ¬There is a God who oversees the life of humans and determines if they have lived successfully. The Gods have all the power so it is necessary to get on their good side. The Torah is the story of creation and the beginning of time. The Tao Te Ching is the great book of the way of virtue. The Torah and Lao Tzu s Tao Te Ching show that to be a successful human being it is necessary to be loyal to the God figure in their religion, through following covenants, taking journeys, and being content with what is given. All they need to do is praise the highest figure and they will be rewarded. Both the story from the Torah and Tao Te Ching are similar and show the ideal human life because they both have characters who get rewarded for respecting and follow the highest figure. These show that to be successful, it is a necessity to follow these Gods. In addition to following covenants, a successful life includes a journey in honor of someone. Taking a journey in the honor of someone shows the selflessness in a person and the care they have for others. Moses was a person in the Torah that was considered a successful person because he took a journey in honor of another man. The Torah reads, I led you for forty years in the wilderness. Your clothes did not fall from you in tatters nor your sandals from your feet; (Deuteronomy 29:4). This is the Lord talking to Moses. Moses took a 40 year journey in honor of the Lord to show his faith towards him and show he will do whatever he wants of him. The lord keeps Moses safe for these 40 years by not letting him lose the protection of his clothing. They stayed in tack for 40 years. The Lord went to test Moses to see if he could withstand this journey. Moses did all that he was asked and was successful because of his loyalty throughout his Journey. • 10. The Negative Effects Of Special Education In Schools In the last 15 years, arts education programs have been under constant threat. Some blame this on the No Child Left Behind law, passed in 2001, that placed focus on core subjects such as math or language. Others point to the steady education budget cuts by each state. Whatever the cause, cutting arts education classes affects every student but special education students are the ones most impacted. While it is well known that cutting these programs can have negative effects; some of which are lower test scores, lower attendance rates, and higher disciplinary rates. What is less known is the many ways the arts play an important role in special education. Weather its intergrated as part of classroom curriculum or taught separately it builds confidence, helps integrate them with typically developing peers, enhances communication, and builds problem solving skills. All of this in an environment that is the only place (in school) where uniqueness and individuality are celebrated (Andrus 10). The No Child Left Behind Act was intended to create equitable educational opportunities for all students, and close achievement gaps among different groups of students (Spohn 3). Under this act, schools would receive federal funding if their students tested proficient in math and reading. Their test scores must also show adequate yearly progress. • 11. Symptoms And Treatment Of The Blood Brain Barrier There are many expecting mothers who suffer from serious mental illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or borderline personality disorder that requires they must take antipsychotic drugs to remain stable. There are different types of antipsychotics like typical and atypical. Typical antipsychotics are classified as the first generation of antipyschotics. The atypical antipsychotics, the second generation, are reported to be safer than the typical antipsychotics because they are the newer form of antipsychotic medication. Even though they are reported to be safer, they still have severe side effects on the individual consuming it, like tardive dyskinesia, which are uncontrollable movements of the mouth (McCauley et al., 2009). Some drugs can affect the fetus by transferring to the blood brain barrier. The blood brain barrier is a permeable barrier that allows some chemicals to pass through. It separates the circulating blood from the brain extracellular fluid in the central nervous system. The blood brain barrier also transports molecules to the brain that are essential to function properly, like glucose and amino acids. Since capillary endothelial cells, which line the whole circulatory system, form the blood brain barrier the medication could be transported to the fetus. From ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Gender Deviance In Sweetheart Of The Song Tra Bong Does deviating from one s gender norms inevitably doom one down a spiral of moral corruption? Tim O Brien, author of Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong and Ernest Hemingway, author of The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber , certainly seem to hold this view, as evident by the fates of the major female characters in their respective works. The deviance of the major female characters in both works appears to corrupt not only themselves, but also pollute their partners, causing them to suffer injury or harm as a result. The degree of injury ranges from negligible, like Fossie s demotion and broken heart, to fatal, like the bullet that rips through Macomber s skull. It begs the question, are these stories meant to serve as cautionary tales for their female readers, or possibly for their husbands, so they may recognize gender deviance and stop it in its tracks before their wives transform into Margot Macomber or Mary Anne Bell? This essay will analyze what such characters say about pervading views of women, both in society and in literature. At the end of Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong , Mark Fossie gazes upon his previously demure and sweet girlfriend as a demon, surrounded by carnage, a necklace of shriveled human tongues around her neck as she stands barefoot in the hootch of the Green Berets. The male reader is meant to resonate with Mark s horror and be terrified of Mary Anne s feral transformation. The pure, sweet, socially conforming to be wife has been corrupted by ... When Ian and Zac were hanging out, he learned that people around the school are calling him a rapist and that Grace and Ian had fallen in love with each other. When the book is in Ian s perspective, it is clear that he is endeavoring to understand both sides of the story. Ian s view is that something lousy transpired, causing drama to compose in Grace s life, but he doesn t know who to believe at first. Ian then decides to heedfully listen to Grace s point of view and ultimately finds her side of the story more believable before even hearing Zac s side. Zac gets pissed at this as they are supposed to be best friends, and he is meant to be supporting him and taking his side rather than Grace s. He saw Grace get hurt from the conflict she is facing, so he feels that he has made the right decision, but it will continue to bother Zac. It is clear that Ian is in love with Grace at this point. He ultimately is endeavoring to believe her but feels that it is important to be there for his best friend. After all, listening to his side can help in solving this issue. Several contradicting theories have been made about the nature versus nurture discussion. Through personal experience and being an older sibling, I am able to clearly analyze and make my own conclusions. I believe that nurture is the dominating force compared to nature. Nature refers to the inherited traits. Each human being has roughly 100,000 genes that create the physical characteristics of a child. The genes are only responsible for fostering traits such as blue eyes, brown hair, and skin color. In addition, nature is also responsible for passing on genes that contain diseases such as alzheimer s and even certain cancers. On the other hand, nurture refers to the environmental factors that influence a person. Nature is the superior force in the creation of personality and distinct and individualized characters because each person perceives events differently. After our brains perceive different events, we either produce dopamine (pleasure) or register in our cortex to not do the same thing again. A common example used by psychologists is the hot stove; if you get hurt by touching a hot stove, it is highly likely that you will never do it again. Because ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 20. An Evaluation Of An Auditory Brainstem Response An auditory brainstem response is an electrical potential generated from the changes in neural activity when an acoustic stimulus is presented into the ear. Stimuli in the form of clicks, tonebursts or chirps are transmitted through a transducer and measured using surface electrodes positioned on the scalp. The elicited waveform response consists of 7 waves that occur within a period of 10ms after the presented stimuli. Each waveform peak is labeled from I VII where each wave corresponds to a neural generator within the auditory pathway. Just like other auditory evoked potentials such as the middle latency response, the response depends relatively on the pathological factors, non pathological factors, acquisition parameters, stimulus parameters as well as the noise and interference. Consequently, this has meant that a great deal of research has been conducted into investigating these potential effects on the ABR, especially as it is commonly used in clinical practice such as for evaluating retrocochlear pathology, detecting permanent childhood hearing loss in newborn hearing screens and intraoperative monitoring during surgery. These findings usually influence the test conditions used in protocols and guidance for clinical practice. Whilst previous literature focus their experiments in order to find a significant difference in the ABR waveform, very few studies explore what these parameters and factors have on the quality aspect of the recording. • 21. Critique Of Noonan Argument Essay In this article, Noonan discusses the controversial topic of abortion. He examines questions such as how do you determine the humanity of a being? His thesis is that abortion is always morally wrong with the exception of extreme circumstances such as a cancerous uterus or ectopic pregnancy. He uses the assumption that a fetus is always a person, from conception on as opposed to believing the fetus is not a person at any point. In this paper, I will show that Noonan proves his thesis that abortion is always morally wrong, based on proving opposing arguments to be unsound. Noonan s argument to prove that abortion is morally wrong: 1. A human conceptus is a human being. 2. If a human conceptus is a human being, then it is morally wrong to harm it. 3. If it is morally wrong to harm a human conceptus , then abortion is wrong except where the mother s life is in danger 4. Therefore, abortion is wrong except where the mother s life is in danger Noonan focuses a majority of his argument on the assumption that a human conceptus is a human being. Many of ... There is a four out of five chance that a fetus will develop into a baby. If the probability of development were different, there would be a considerable difference in the argument against abortion. He uses the example of shooting at a movement from a bush. If there was only a 200,000,000 to 1 chance of the movement being a human, then shooting would not seem so bad. However, if there was a four out of five chance of it being a human, shooting seems absurd. The same theory of probability applies to abortion. Since there is an 80 percent chance of a baby developing from the fetus, it is morally wrong to harm that fetus without a sufficient reason, such as cancerous uterus or ectopic ... The background of the photo consists of debris from aircrafts and boat; however the photo was not focused due to the nature of war photograph. • 23. Short-Term and Long-Term Memory Loss Forgetting in Short Term and Long Term Memory: The memory of human beings is similar to that of computers because it allows individuals to store information for later or future use. However, the storage of information in humans involves three major processes i.e. encoding, storage, and retrieval. The encoding process basically involves transforming data into meaningful form like association with an existing image, memory, or sound. This is followed by holding on to the information through a physiological change, which is the actual storage of the information. The final stage in this process is retrieval where the stored information is brought out, which is a reversal of the encoding process ( Memory, Intelligence, and States of Mind , 2011). Since humans are more complex, they have three different memory storage abilities i.e. sensory memory, short term memory, and long term memory. Short Term and Long Term Memory: Short term memory is the process with which information in the sensory memory is transferred to a person s awareness or consciousness. The information becomes currently active in the individual like talking to a friend, reading an article, or writing a paper. While short term memory lasts longer then sensory memory, it still has very limited capacity (Cowan, 2009). In contrast, long term memory is relatively permanent and virtually unlimited with regards to storage capacity. The permanence of this type of memory storage capability originates from the fact ... To start you should know that substances are moving in and out of cells of your body all the time. To understand and make sense of the cells of your body, you need to know about the process of diffusion, osmosis and active transport. All organisms need to exchange particles such as food, waste, gas and heat with their surroundings. there are two different types of ways in which substances can enter or/and leave a cell. these ways are called Passive and Active. with in these there are different processes for example, in passive process there are diffusion, facilitated diffusion and osmosis and in the active process there is molecule and particle. in this assignment I am going to discuss all of these processes starting with diffusion. diffusion is one of the passive transport processes. it is used in oxygen entering a cell and carbon dioxide leaving a cell. diffusion is the movement of particles such as atoms or molecules from a high concentration place in an area of a low concentration. this shows that they diffuse down the concentration gradient. the concentration gradient is a gradual change in the concentration of solutes in a solution as a function of distance through a solution. in biology a gradient results from an unequal distribution of particles across the cell membrane. Analysis Of Perfection Wasted By John Updike What We Lose Through Death of Others An Explication of John Updike s Perfection Wasted This poem dramatizes the conflict between losing someone s personality through death and the magic within our own separate worlds. In the poem personality is the most important part of life because it cannot be replicated by any person in the world because every person s personality is different and unique in its own way. The personality that is shown in the poem is that the speaker is happy and full of magic. John Updike uses this poem to tell a story through mostly imagery. The impression I received throughout the entire poem is the cycle of life. The author of this poem, John Updike was born on March 18, 1932 and died on January 27, 2009. He was influenced by several different people such as: William Shakespeare, James Joyce, Marcel Proust, John Barth, and many other people. One of his famous quotes that I like is [d]reams come true; without that possibility, nature would not incite us to have them. John Updike wrote many different things. He wrote short stories, poems, and novels. John Updike s inspiration came from all over. All of the people that inspired him came from different places. The main theme in this poem is that one s ways or personality cannot be remade by someone. People can imitate what a person does or how a person acts, but they will never be able to replicate it one hundred percent. The speaker in this poem talks about how when someone dies their personality will be lost forever because it cannot be reperformed by someone else, not even their closest friends or family members. Imitators and descendants aren t the same. (Line 14) A person can be near someone for twenty four hours a day, seven days a week, fifty two weeks in a year and still not be them exactly. When someone dies, there will be glimpses of them in others that they have touched through their actions, but they will never fully see them in just one single person. LEDs, unlike the incandescent light bulbs that lit our homes for almost a century, produce light via a chemical reaction. Incandescent lamps produce light by passing an electrical current through a wire (tungsten) filament until it heats to high heat and glows almost white. So Friedman was ahead of everyone else seeing this as a development for the world market. The beginning of Bitcoin is not exactly easy to fully document because the so called creator is known to have an alias name. That name first arose in 2008 in a paper published via online with the name of Satoshi Nakamoto . That paper was titled Bitcoin, a Peer to Peer Electronic Cash System . November 2008 was the early stages of the great financial crisis. So pre financial crisis, maybe the interest for Bitcoin was not noticed right away. But ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Kinetic energy came along because of its high speed. The mathematical equation for this is initial kinetic energy plus initial potential energy plus external work equals final kinetic energy plus final potential energy. To find work the equation is force times distance. To find power the equation is work divided by time. • 39. What Is A Gap Years Essay A gap year was once just a privilege for the people of luxury and wealthy backgrounds, who s mummy and daddy would send them of for the time of their lives. They would travel to poor countries and help build houses and schools for the ones in need for a few weeks. Then spend the rest of the year going to beaches and parties. They have changed the lives of many and had the time of their lives. Some people think that gap years are for the people of luxury and upper class as they are so expensive that even the working class can t afford it. Take Louise Linton for example, she is a actress who went on a gap year to volunteer in Zambia, she got a lot of backlash at the fact that she was of upper class and posted that she was hiding from a group of armed rebels and she didn t want to think what the rebels would do to the skinny white Muzungu with long angel hair if they found me. and the only thing that got her through the ruff times was the smiling gap toothed child with HIV whose greatest joy was to sit on my lap and drink from a bottle of Coca Cola. on twitter, Gerard Zytkow, claimed to have known ... Essay on Comparing Arnold Schwarzenegger and Adolf Hitler Comparing Arnold Schwarzenegger and Adolf Hitler To learn history means to seek and find the forces which are the causes leading to those effects which we subsequently perceive as historical events. Adolf Hitler Growing up poor in a small town in Austria he had dreams of becoming famous; some would even say this dream soon became an obsession. This fascination soon engulfed his life, viewing his goals as a catalyst for a better life. After a brief stint in the army he pursued this dream and learned to use propaganda as a springboard to achieve a high ranking position in a political party. This political party was currently in power in the country he had immigrated to in his twenties, a country he could now call his own. Two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Background I believe today that I am acting in the sense of the Almighty Creator. By warding off the Jews I am fighting for the Lord s work. Adolf Hitler To fully understand the views expressed in this paper, it is necessary to understand Adolf Hitler and to provide context as to why Schwarzenegger is being compared to what many believe to be the embodiment of evil itself. This section of the paper will focus on the background of both states: California and Nazi Germany. In 1929 Germany was hit with the final blow to an already struggling nation; the Great Depression. Black Tuesday hit Germany in the midst of a naval blockade, extreme hyperinflation, and poverty for many Germans. Many historians believe that the blockade against Germany was the main reason for the rise of Nazism and consequently World War II. Regardless, Germany was in a time of crisis and in desperate need of salvation. In 2003, California, while not suffering from the same magnitude of crisis as pre Nazi Germany, was by no means experiencing prosperity. California was in the midst of an extreme unbalance: suffering from a massive debt, a governor who seemed unable to help, and increasing unemployment. Residents were exhausted of false promises made by former governors and looking for change. A recall was ordered on Governor ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I feel an experienced accountant that had worked in the food service industry would have been able to advise them that they did not need to budget on a yearly sales forecast that was divided by 52 weeks in the year. This shows poor budgeting skills because they are trying to obtain a heavy student mix and the students are not in the area for the entire year. Financial forecasting is such an integral part of any successful start up business and there are major issues with the way it has been done. I would also look at the existing data from sales to see if the original market segmentation has followed through to the actual sales numbers. With the influx of students during the school year and the absence of students over the holidays and summer, if the tapas area is not producing the necessary sales then the restaurant might need to devote more space to the fine dining establishment. As it currently stands, the tapas bar is composed of 75% of the floor space, except in the summer when it commands 80% of the floor space, which includes the patio area. The fine dining area is limited to only 25% of the sales, except during the summer when it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Classical Characteristics Of Baroque Art Beginning with the Baroque period, the Baroque was an art movement in the 17th and early 18th century which comes after the Renaissance before the Enlightenment, Neoclassicism. It s origins, like renaissance art, were in Italy and the historical context really have is two historical movements that are associated with the Baroque. First, the Counter Reformation and second, Absolutism. As far as the Baroque tradition it represents a rejection of renaissance restraint. When looking at the School of Athens by Raphael, we can see this very technically perfect painting from the Renaissance where it looks like it could ve been posed for which is what renaissance art is, restraint, that you are supposed to think about balance in the composition, and you re supposed to hold something back. Renaissance art was not very emotional. One thing we should note is this painting of Aneas Fleeing Burning Troy by Federico Baroccci, is not restraint. We see a bunch of running around, burning fires, it s not balanced, and there s more action, but at the same time we still see this framework of classical themes. When looking at Baroque art, we ll still be able to see themes that are very religious or grounded in the Greco Roman classical traditions. More characteristics of Baroque art we can see are motion, emotion, grandeur, and contrast. A piece of work where we can see almost all of these characteristics would be St. Michael the Archangel by Guido Reni. We see St. Michael trampling the devil, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Evidence that genetics is an important, but not exclusive cause, of so called primary autism includes a three to eight percent risk of recurrence in families with one affected child (Rapin, Isabelle 100). Autism isn t just one disease but a category of complicated syndromes. Three of the most definable syndromes are Rett s, Asperger s, and Landua Kleffner. Rett s syndrome is only found in females and most are retarded. This syndrome develops between the ages of six months to eighteen months. Rett s begins with a normal state of development, then the victim regresses in skills such as speech, hand movements, and social skills, along with other signs of central nervous system dysfunction. Females with Rett s are most prone to having seizures. Asperger s syndrome is affective in both males and females. After the first few years of life, victims will lose everything they have learned, but will eventually progress again. People with Asperger s appear to have more verbal and recognition skills. They also usually show strong interest in subway, bus, and train schedules and maps. Asperger s syndrome is probably the closest to primary autism . Landua Kleffner syndrome is also found in males and females. Victims with this 2 disorder appear normal until between the ages of three to seven, which is when regression is noticeable.
