Media Violence
It has been calculated that American kids see about 200,000 acts of violence and 25,000 murders on
television by the time they reach age eighteen. (Schleifer 18) Arrests of people under the age of
eighteen for violent crimes rose forty seven percent from 1988 to 1992. (Miller 174) The American
Medical Association conducted a study that found a direct relationship between viewing and
homicide. (Miller 176) Does this kind of overexposure to violence have a significant effect on children
and teenagers? The answer is yes! Many reliable sources have proven that violence in the media has a
negative influence in children under the age of eighteen. Statistics show that deaths and arrests
involving children due to violence committed by other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is especially true when it come to cartoon violence because the consequences to the victims are
rarely shown. (acc.jc.edu/north/masscomm/cartoon/html) Very young children, especially, and some
teenagers have trouble distinguishing fact from fantasy. One teenager gang member wounded in a
shoot out was amazed at how much the gun shoot hurt. After all, on television, people who get shot
never show pain! (Schleifer 18) I didn t know it would hurt him, said an eight year old boy after he
was arrested for beating his next door neighbor. (Kreiner 27) Statistics even show that the media also
affects the number of crimes committed by children and murders of children by other children. In
1993, 28 New York youth faced murder charges. On a national scale, arrests for homicide among
juveniles went up 93 percent from 1988 to 1992. A 1994 study by Parade magazine showed that 12

Countrywide Financial Crisis
Countrywide Financial, co founded in 1969 by Angelo Mozilo and David Loeb became the largest
provider of home loans in the U.S., where one out of every six loans originated with Countrywide
(Olster, 2010). Countrywide found its niche providing loans to minorities, those with less than stellar
credit, and by issuing loans to low income families. Numerous families, unable to achieve the
American dream, had the capability of becoming home owners, because Countrywide diminished the
barriers preventing this group from obtaining home ownership (Ferrell, Fraedrich, Ferrell, 2013).

the totality involving Countrywide s loan practices. Only a small group of Bank of America s
employees were involved in the assessment of Countrywide s books and operations techniques, yet

realize the magnitude of legal issues it had acquired from Countrywide. However, Bank of America,

Intracardiac Shunt Report
The calculation of the intracardiac shunt ratio between the pulmonary and systemic circulation can
determine the size of the shunt. The stroke volume in a normal heart is equal across the four cardiac
valves, therefore equal on the right and left sides of the heart. However, when an intracardiac shunt is
present the stroke volume of one side of the heart exceeds the stroke volume of the other side of the
heart. Typically the intracardiac shunts are directed left to right due to higher pressures in the left heart
and aorta. The increased blood flow returning to the left heart from the lungs results in a dilated left
heart in the presence of ventricular septal defect. In order to calculate the intracardiac shunt ratio, the
pulmonary venous circulation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Several studies have shown that spontaneous closure occurs with small defects that have a diameter of
less than 3mm. Patients with muscular and perimembranous defects can expect for spontaneous
closure to occur (Zhang et al., 2015). However, when significant shunting produces problems,
treatment is unnecessary. Diuretics are often the first in line to relieve symptoms. Afterload reduction
may also be used to promote systemic flow from left ventricle, reducing left to right shunting as a
result. Defects that need surgical correction are often closed by placing a patch directly over it from
the right ventricular side. Larger muscular apical defects require banding the pulmonary trunk to
correct the pulmonary and systemic resistances and minimize shunting. Closing a defect for patients
with Eisenmenger physiology would be detrimental since it would worsen the pulmonary
hypertension by causing suprasystemic right ventricular systolic pressure. Cardiac catherization may
be needed in these circumstances (Spicer et al., 2014). The prognosis is excellent for isolated
ventricular septal defects. Patients who need surgical repair can also anticipate an excellent prognosis
with zero mortality and minimal morbidity, without significant changes to the quality of life.
Echocardiography plays a significant role in improving the prognosis for patients by

Philosophical Understanding and a New View
Philosophical understanding
Philosophy is the study of legitimacy, existence, and the manner in which things exist. Philosophy
incorporates an immense range of topics and every person, place, thing, and idea has its roots
implanted in it. Everybody has their own beliefs in life whether it s from religion, morals, or in
essence everything in general. Philosophers try to answer the unknown questions in life that everyone
is wanting to examine and have the answers to. I never even thought twice about the world we live in,
I thought that it was just life and that s all to it; we live and we die. Throughout the semester I have
learned many different views of the world by diverse philosophers. Many I agreed with, many I did

The new born baby would be able to hear the noise of the people in the hospital room, feel the arms
around him, see the smiling faces, smell and taste the placenta he has been resting in for so long. The
baby without senses would not even know it exists without having senses to understand his
surroundings. Epistemology is how we gain and acquire knowledge. My empiricist epistemological
view point is that nothing in the mind was put there without the help of the senses. Everything we
know is based on learning from different people, or on our own. Rule books are not just zapped into
our heads about how to do things. Every daily task we have in life goes back in time to the first person
who thought of the idea. For example the first person to create a car, they would not have created it if
they could not see, walk or talk. The person who created the first car would not know the long hours it
takes to walk somewhere far away because they would not be able to feel the pain of soreness the day
after. They would have never been able to experiment ways to create machinery that would make
everyone s lives easier someday. I m sure he did not get it right the first time, but he learned through
experience. I believe we learn something new every day through our senses, and we will continue to
learn things through our senses. I cannot think of anything that

Anotated Bibliography on Literacy in the Primary Years
Christie, F. (2005). Language and Literacy. In Language education in the primary years (pp. 1 12).
Sydney: University of New South Wales Press
In this chapter we are introduced to language being a basic resource with which we learn both in oral
and written form and become a responsibility of teachers in the primary schooling years to allow this
opportunity to be given to all. The debate over methods autonomous and ideological is discussed
where the debate takes into consideration factors from the 20th century emphasising the literacy
practice of learning. We are reading that the functional model of language is a social semiotic system
used in many ways and the three ways that why this is useful being the role, the nature and learning to
construct meanings of language. The chapter emphasises that to play, use, enjoy and adapt language is
a goal for our children which can lead to providing the framework for a language program.
Text and context are explained where we can change our language approach to suit the discourse.
Through metafunctions as shown in table formation we are allowing ourselves to choose our language
to make meanings. Within the classroom from this chapter we gain an insight into the social side, the
making of choices and reflection of language for children.

How Did Queen Elizabeth 1 Affect Society
Queen Elizabeth I of England was a gracious, inspiring, and witty ruler that, in many ways, changed
the course of history. Her ruling allowed England to flourish, gain wealth, and change in drastic ways.
Queen Elizabeth started her rule in 1583 when she was 25 years old. Prior to Elizabeth becoming
Queen, a terrible ruler made the country of England an unstable country. This ruler was Queen Mary,
who ruled all of England and Ireland in the early 1500 s. During her rule, Mary was not a good queen.
After many years of being a Protestant nation, Queen Mary wanted to return England to its former
ways of Catholicism. However, in order to bring back the Catholic Church, Mary had to persecute
thousands of Christians, which resulted in her gaining ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the United States today we still have never had a female president, while hundreds of years ago
Queen Elizabeth was ruling the entire country of England without a husband (Chloe H). Her ruling
showed that a women could be both feminine and have beautiful features, yet still display male
dominant traits such as strength and intelligance. She always advocated that women could do
anything, despite of their differences (Chloe H). She was living proof that women can be independent,
and that they have the potential to do anything if they set their mind to it. She refused to marry, which
set a great example to all the women of England. Elizabeth, also known as The Virgin Queen , taught
women they do not need a husband to live a good life. During her rule, she inspired many women to
be the intelligent and independent women they were born to be. She once said, Though the sex to
which I belong is considered weak you will nevertheless find me a rock that bends to no wind (Lewis).
By saying this, Queen Elizabeth trying to tell people that even though she is not as physically strong
and able as most men, she is a smart and well educated Queen. Queen Elizabeth not only inspired the
people of her time, but inspires women today to be strong and self confident, as she

I can remember rare occasions as a child when I would wake...
I can remember rare occasions as a child when I would wake up for school and there would be
pancakes, eggs and bacon on the table and orange juice or Sunny Delight to drink. These exciting
occasions, however, were just that: rare. Most days I would bound down the stairs to the toaster loaded
with Pop Tarts. I would usually be disappointed that I couldn t devour a wholesome breakfast, but I
later came to understand the convenience of the Pop Tart. My parents could put pastries in the toaster
and continue to get ready for their day without having to worry about too much clean up. It was during
these early days of my education that I really found a love for the sugary, fruit filled pastries. Post

Along with their release to stores across the country, store managers were instructed to put the Pop
Tarts in the cookie and cake aisle, opposed to the cereal aisle where the Post Country Squares were
faltering in sales.
Kellogg started out with only four flavors of Pop Tarts: apple currant, blueberry, cinnamon and
strawberry. Over the years they have come out with a variety of different flavors including chocolate,
French toast and a very popular s mores version. The company decided not to frost the original
version because the creators thought that the frosting might melt in the toaster. The developers later
came to realize that the frosting would not melt in the toaster, however, and the first Pop Tarts with
frosting were released for sale in 1967.
In 1971, Kellogg decided to introduce Milton the Toaster, a cartoon character that would be used to
help promote the product. The character was a hit with the sample audiences and was launched
nationwide, but the campaign was terminated after a commercial showing Milton the Toaster being
hugged by a child fostered a fear that children may try to copy the commercial and burn themselves.
Pop Tarts came under a lot of scrutiny in 1992 when a man named Thomas Nangle sued Kellogg for
damages on the grounds that his Pop Tart got caught in his toaster and started a fire. The

Similarities Between Martin Luther King Jr And Malala Youfzai
Your Intro:
According to Martin Luther King Jr, Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable... Every step
toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggles (brainyquote.com). This is a very
powerful quote because if you do not struggle or sacrifice in life, when come to a point where you
have to make decisions or take action, you re not going to be able to decide what to do or think. This
is how we progress and go forward, because we make mistakes and learn from them to make things
better in the world around us. In fact, Dr. King s quote suggests that struggle often motivates change.
For example, Many activists have been motivated by their personal struggles. These are people who
can truly speak for their cause, because they lived it,and really understand what they say and do.
Activists who were motivated by their personal struggles are people like Harriet Tubman, Martin
Luther King Jr. and Malala Yousafzai. Even though they all struggled with different things at different
times, their struggles motivated them to speak out for their cause and change the world.

Shakespeare s Motives In Macbeth
Motives are a part of people s everyday lives. People use motives to explain why they did something.
William Shakespeare is a well known play writer from the 1600s. Shakespeare is known for his
tragedies like Macbeth. Macbeth was written between 1606 1607 and published in the First Folio of
1623 (Bevington). Shakespeare uses motives to explain why Macbeth kills king Duncan of Scotland
and many of his loyal followers. Shakespeare wrote many motives for Macbeth to use but some of
those motives are more important than others. The main motives of Macbeth are the three witches,
ambition, and Lady Macbeth. The three witches are the main motive of Macbeth. After the battle

Once lady Macbeth found out about what the three witches told Macbeth she was determined to do
everything in her power to make sure it came true. Lady Macbeth told Macbeth he had to kill King
Duncan in order to get the crown but Macbeth did not want to kill Duncan until Lady Macbeth called
him a coward. Lady Macbeth told Macbeth that if he did not kill Duncan then he was not a man.
Shakespeare never wastes words, and least of all in Macbeth. Lady Macbeth is first introduced to us
reading the latter portion of a letter she has just received from her husband, telling her of his meeting
with the witches and of their prophesy that he is to be king. The letter, and Lady Macbeth s soliloquy
which follows, describe Macbeth s character and interpret her own. They show us many things that
Lady Macbeth is the source of his mental strength and resolution, that they have talked over the
situation of affairs in the kingdom, with all its possibilities, both those which may be depended upon
to come unaided and those which may be forced to an issue (Gerwig). Lady Macbeth is the
mastermind behind the killing of
King Duncan she gets into Macbeth s head and convinces him the killing Duncan is the only way to
fulfil the prophecy from the witches. Lady Macbeth goes on to say that if Macbeth does not kill
Duncan then he is not a true man. Lady Macbeth pushed Macbeth into killing king Duncan she was
the final push

Chimera Cather s The Lightning Thief
Books are often the inspiration to well known movies. However, people who love to dwell in a book
find themselves frustrated while watching the movie verse. When people read the book, they create
their own little movie in their minds. People use their imagination to make sense of many parts of the
book. When they watch the movie they are often disappointed since it doesn t match their
expectations. Books can easily project ideas to the reader that movies cannot. It is difficult for a movie
to follow a book precisely because it would be too much to sit through and watch. Therefore many
scenes are cut off. Scenes that is easy to imagine but hard showing. Connecting this description to the

Percy frees his friends, and chops Procrustes head off. Another challenge was in chapter 18, where
they meet Cerberus, the three headed guard dog of the Underworld. The three friends reach
underworld, and see the way they have to enter is behind a three headed beast. In order to pass the
dog, Annabeth started playing fetch with Cerberus knowing that would distract it while they enter to
see Hades. It quotes in page 314, Annabeth gets the idea to play fetch with Cerberus using a red rubber
ball she stole from a gift store... Cerberus doesn t get to play very much as he guards the entrance to
Hades, watching dead people walk around him all day. Annabeth plays fetch with Cerberus, until she
throws the ball very distant to give them time to cross the gate. These were the extra obstacles the
three had to face. Scenes like these are easy to imagine in the mind, however, they would be hard to
show in screen. If the director were to involve such scenes in the movie, it would mean more running
time, more actors, more locations, and it would cost more money. In order to not take the burden it
was decided to not include such scenes. The downside of that idea is that, these specific scenes would
have made the movie much more interesting. Sure it would be a lot to sit through but viewers would
enjoy watching the action. There are many things to consider while making a movie, which is why it
was hard to include everything

Addiction And Substance Abuse
What is addiction and substance abuse? The term addiction holds many different meanings in today s
society, but in the past it has been referred to as a sort of devotion to something. Over time, a more
modern definition of the term has developed that links addiction to harmful involvement with drugs
that eventually has potential of produce withdrawal or tolerance in an individual (Alexander
Schweighofer, 1988). Although the word addiction holds a more general meaning in a modern context
it pertains to any kind of compulsive use. Current psychological authorities refer to drug addictions as

Although methadone has become the most popular in opioid addiction treatment, the issue with this
treatment is that it is only able to be prescribed by clinicians to a certain amount of patients (Wesson
Smith, 2010). As a result, many other medications have been researched and studied for treatment
such as, buprenorphine. Buprenorphine prescribed by a physician in their office to a client, and then
the client is then able to take the prescription in the comfort of their own home (Wesson et al, 2010).
This, unlike methadone is prescribed as a tablet or an injectable formulation, or a generic powder
(Wesson et al, 2010). While the two drugs have contrasts, they also have much in common. For
example, they may decrease risky behaviors of addicts and preserve cognitive function in early
treatment. Buprenorphine works in the brain similarly to methadone, and it allows for an abuser to
maintain treatment in the comfort of their own home, at their own convince rather than at the demand
of a clinician. Buprenorphine is considered a partial opiate agonist meaning it is an antagonist at the
kappa opiate receptor (Wesson et al, 2010). This explains the dysphoria and other unpleasant effect
that may be produced by the drug in opiate users (Wesson et al, 2010). Evidence supports that the
safety and efficacy of treatment for detoxification and maintenance therapy

This is especially prevalent within the companies that own the majority of the market share. While
continuous improvement is necessary on current products, it is also crucial to be bold and thinking
outside of the box.
As mentioned, the common theme across the video game industry has been creating an innovative
product and then simply improving the system over time. While that has been proven to work in
instances in the past, there is a lot to learn from the creation of Nintendo s Wii. Nintendo, like the rest
of the company s used the same ideology of continuing improvements to an already developed product
until they took a bold move of introducing a whole new game console. When Nintendo introduced the
Wii, they took a risk because it was not similar to their previous game consoles. They saw an
opportunity to bring something new to the video game industry that could create value to not only the
originally targeted market, but also a much larger market.
The Nintendo Wii is a prime example of how a company can serve their already targeted market and
also see the opportunity to expand into additional segments. Much of Wii s success was due to the fact
that it appealed to a large audience. Nintendo gained a market advantage as first movers in this new
era of technological and conceptual change in the video game industry. The now enabled users to be
more active and engaged which revolutionized the way consumers thought about gaming systems.

metaphor of the poem. While in the sample essay, How William Faulkner s Narrator Cultivates a Rose
for Emily by Tony Groulx, Groulx writes a research paper where he researches various aspects of the
story. These two essays demonstrate two distinct approaches taken to discuss a poem and a story.
From beginning to end, both approaches are a process that require focus and patience. At the end they
should both provide the reader with further insight into the text. To write an effective thesis driven
essay about a literary text, the writer must understand the text, organize their information clearly, and
support their papers purpose.
In Leggett s essay, he analyzes the poem Catch by Robert Francis. Poems can be challenging to
analyze, as there are many elements to consider, such as metaphors, symbolism, and tone. Leggett
chooses to focus on only four key words from the poem, then constructs his essay around each word.
He states that the entire poem s meaning can be cut down to these four words, attitudes, latitudes,
interludes, and altitudes. By focusing on only a

In this paper, we aim to fill what we, as researchers and teachers in qualitative psychology, have
experienced as a current gap: the absence of a paper which adequately outlines the theory, application,
and evaluation of thematic analysis, and one which does so in a way accessible to students and those
not particularly familiar with qualitative research. 1 That is, we aim to write a paper which will be
useful as both a teaching and research tool in qualitative psychology. Therefore, in this paper we
discuss theory and method for thematic analysis, and clarify the similarities and differences between
different approaches that share features in common with a thematic approach.
Qualitative approaches are incredibly diverse, complex and nuanced (Holloway Todres, 2003), and
thematic analysis should be seen as a foundational method for qualitative analysis. It is the first
qualitative method of analysis that researchers should learn, as it provides core skills that will be
useful for conducting many other forms of qualitative analysis. Indeed, Holloway and Todres (2003:
347) identify thematizing meanings as one of a few shared generic skills across qualitative analysis.2
For this reason, Boyatzis (1998) characterises it not as a specific method but as a tool to use across
different methods. Similarly, Ryan and Bernard (2000) locate thematic coding as a process performed
within „major‟ analytic traditions (such as grounded theory), rather than a

Why Donald Trump Think Like A Billionaire Chapter Summaries
Donald Trump s book titled, Trump: Think Like a Billionaire, Everyone thought the book would be an
insightful and easy read. The book was very easy to read, but not too insightful. Trump has divided
this book into 100 or so chapters of about two or three pages each which describe a different tip or
aspect of a billionaire s life.
Trump gives tips on every aspect of life, from finding an attorney, to which golf clubs to play with, to
romance, to keeping up your appearances in the business world. He basically tells you how to live life
like he does. Trump gives you his tips and tricks in five different chapters. Chapter one deals with real
estate. Some of the topics in this chapter are how to get an appraisal and inspection on your property,
how to deal with a broker and attorney, how to landscape, how to pick an interest rate and down
payment, and how to find a good office.
The Chapter two deals with the topic of money management. Donald Trump gives you tips on topics

through what a host must endure during rehearsal, being asked to do the show, and the endless
punishment the actors on Saturday Night Live delivered to Trump. This is one of the lighter and more
entertaining sections of the book. Following this, Trump dedicates about thirty to forty pages to
describing a week in his life. He tells the reader how he gets up early, stays at work for twelve hours,
takes conference calls and attends meetings all day, and goes home to do more business and see his

Blow Movie Psychology
Based on a true story, Blow tells the story of the main character George Jung. George became one of
the largest if not the largest cocaine trafficker in the United States, because of the trafficking of Pablo
Escobar`s cocaine, it changed the face of America in the 1970s. Being business partners with Pablo
Escobar, George was never in short supply of the cocaine he was trafficking. As I watched the movie
and observed George`s addictive behavior, I realized that it started as a child and the first obsession
came in the form of money. George s parents were not wealthy and always fought over money this is
where as a young child George placed his values. George s deviant behavior started with smoking
cigarettes, drinking beer, and smoking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
George s manifestation of the disease of money and power was visible through his addiction to
cocaine and drugs, the drugs and drinking were just a symptom of George s disease. George was
married and as a result of his chemical addiction and way of life a baby girl was a direct result of that
marriage, according to George in the movie; it was the birth of his baby girl that would change George
s life. Gorge now wanted to clean up his life, stop trafficking cocaine and take care of his family, as
fate and the lifestyle would have it George went back to prison for having one last party put on by his
wife, in which all the current drug dealers were invited. Gorge`s release from prison put George into
an area that he was not used to, George had no money and George was broke. George made a promise
to his daughter earlier that he would never leave her but after going back to prison he broke the trust
he once had with her, after his release he spent a great deal of his time trying to amend that trust and
build his relationship back with his daughter. However, this was to no avail because George relapsed,
George did not relapsed to the chemical addiction but to the addition of inappropriate behavior. What I
have learned from this movie is that enough is never enough, George had the wealth and the power of
the underworld however, and it was this lifestyle that brought George to the end

Tesco Financial Ratios
Tesco was founded in 1919 by Jack Cohen from a market stall selling surplus groceries in London s
East End. The company is now not only a grocery but also a general merchandise retailer who
operates in 12 countries around the world, employs over 530,000 people and serves tens of millions of
customers every week. Tesco became a private limited company in 1932 and in 1947 Tesco Stores

with suppliers helped it grow its market share from 7% in 1971 to 31% in 2007 making them the UK s
top supermarket. Despite being in a recession, Tesco made record profits for a British retailer in the
year to February 2010, during which it s underlying pre tax profits increased by 10.1% to £3.4 billion.

The Changing of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow Essay
The Changing of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow
Once upon a time is the predictable beginning of a fairy tale and happily ever after is the ending. The
Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving is a classical myth that defies the conventional
standards of a fairy tale. Set in a valley in New England, It s a gothic tale of mystery and suspense that
bears no definite ending surrounding the myth of the Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow (Heath
1355). The original text created by Irving was intended for the mature reader, a reader who could
understand a sense of irony, had knowledge of history, and taste. What of and how has The Legend of
Sleepy Hollow remained successful with audiences through a period of over one ... Show more

A distinct wording that dates the more recent text is the delivery of an invitation by a messenger for a
quilting party and not a Negro delivering an invitation to a quilting frolic as in the original text. The
word usage in the earlier text was the common language of the day, just as the newer publicationâs
language is used in present day conversation.
Fifty three sketches are scattered in the 121 pages of Browns edition. The depiction of Ichabod Crane
does not match his illustration. He is drawn as handsome as Brom Van Brunt and is not long armed,
lanky, and long legged with a pointy nose (Brown 21). The Headless Horseman is illustrated to
description having sharp and jagged edges with a frightening look. The three books share the narrative
style and ending with only Ichabodâs hat and a crushed pumpkin found and the old country wives
retelling the tale of the Headless Horseman (Rackham 101).
The media mode The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is presented to audiences has changed. The literary
text has been recreated on audio and video. Separate distinct adaptations have been recreated on video
and film. Frank Price has noted, Movies have become the short stories of the video age (Dizard 142).
Disney created a mini classic animated video of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow for the family audience

Additional sound has been added for the additions to the game. This is to add to the effect of the

something different to eating normal pills has happened. During the intro screen the original
soundtrack plays once the game starts though this sound is stopped. This is because the sound
triggered by PacMan eating the pills and the original soundtrack add up to become unpleasant at
normal speaker settings and there is no method within Game Maker to alter the balance. UI The UI is
very simple having only the score and the player s lives on the screen at the bottom below the maze.
This simple display is all that is needed as the only two factors the players needs is their current score

different endurance requirements, dedicated payloads and different ground control systems. An
additional important problem to be solved is the integration of UAVs in the civilian airspace, which

The, The And, And The New York Times And Tehran
Thematization is considered the mental act or process of selecting particular topics as themes in
discourse or words as themes in sentences. This paper examines thematization strategies in English
opinion articles written by American and Iranian journalists. To this end, two of the leading
newspapers in the United States and Iran, The New York Times and Tehran Times, have been chosen.
Based on the qualitative and quantitative analysis of textual features and marked and unmarked
themes of 12 opinion articles (6 from each newspaper), this study aims to find out how these two
groups of professional writers organize their themes, into marked and unmarked ones and what effects
these organizations have on the audiences. The findings revealed that textual features were present in
both sets of data. The occurrences of marked and unmarked themes were not significantly different.
The findings revealed that thematization patterns can help the understanding of the texts. The results
also showed that marked themes have an impact on the audiences. The results were relatively the same
in the original texts and their translations.

Tacitus s Influence On The Roman Empire
Tacitus talks about the influence of Agrippina the younger as a sign of weakness of the principate
representing Claudius and Nero as her pawn. Her position of power as a female to this day is
unmatched; known as the granddaughter, daughter, sister, wife, and mother of men. ( Tacitus)
Agrippina, an Imperial woman of the Julio Claudian bloodline a female Caesar lived through all five
of the Julio Claudian emperors Augustus, Tiberius, Caligula, Claudius, and Nero. Agrippina the
younger roles in the empire is recognized but is not credited for the influence she had in shaping the
Roman Empire from the time of Claudius to the beginning of Nero s reign. Tacitus is writing is from
the perspective of an old Roman Senator providing the accounts of Agrippina life in power from a
male point of view. His accounts of her life portray her as a vindictive, scandalous female who has
stepped above her station. (Tacitus) Suetonius another old Roman Senator accounts would agree with
Tacitus in regards to Agrippina s outrageous behavior. However, it can be argued that she was an
emperor while she is not given credit her influence played a huge part in affecting the direction of the
Empire and Roman society especially when it comes to women in a position of power.
Tacitus and Suetonius provide fragments of the history of the Roman Empire through the Julio
Claudian reign. Agrippina the younger bloodline is strong as a descendant of Augustus and Agrippa;
she s connected to all five emperors.

information to shareholders, it emphasizes the need for internal controls. A few of the cons are: It is
costly; it results in increased audit cost. Here are how the sections are laid out. Section 302 requires
corporate management to certify that financial statements have been reviewed by them, and that those
statements are accurate and truthful. Section 401 requires financial information to include disclosures

That said, this has costly implications for companies that are publicly traded as it requires lots of
resources to establish and maintain the internal controls required by the law. Small companies are
being disproportionately burdened because auditors are not tailoring their procedures to the client.
Section 409 requires management to update the public when significant financial matters when they

Critical Points Within The Civil Rights Movement Essay
Gladwell uses many critical points within the Civil Rights Movement to support his claim the most
notable of which is of the Greensboro sit ins. In the early 60s, seventy thousand students, all across the
South and Southwest took part in these revolutionary demonstrations (Gladwell). By this time Jim
Crow laws were well in effect; the South and Southwest were plagued by racial discrimination and
segregation. The consequences of disobeying these laws were brutally severe: unjust arrests, beatings,
lynching s, and even murder were subjected upon the African American community. Oppositionists,
such as the Ku Klux Klan, retaliated in the form of violence and intimidation. Despite the grave risks
involved, demonstrators heeded the call to action because they were deeply and personally connected
to the cause. However, this radical assemblage of protestors did not occur on a whim or by chance.
Instead, it all began when four black college students decided to risk their safety and possibly their
lives by defying the discriminatory beliefs and norms embedded within the fabric of American society.
Joseph McNeil, Franklin McCain, David Richmond, and Ezell Blair were all close friends. They spent
nights together chugging beers and woefully discussed the injustices that pervaded their lives. These
interactions were personal, direct, and intimate. Their interactions were not limited by the obscurities

Schools need to be responsible for the protection of kids while in school. In the court case, Morrow

are never in full custody of the school because they remain primarily dependent on their parents... but

every kid has a safe environment at home, if they can t be safe at school either, then where can they?
Teachers need to be trained how to handle various types of emergencies such as health and attacker

government in the execution of GST.
Research Methodology
The proposed paper is mainly descriptive in nature. It is solemnly based on secondary data and
information which is collected from the concerned sources as per need of the research. The relevant
books, documents of various ministries/departments and organizations, articles, papers and web sites
are used in this study.
Goods and Services Tax: Its Need In India:
Introduction of GST to replace the existing mutiple tax structures of Centre and State taxes is not only
desirable but imperative in the emerging economic environment. Increasingly, services are used or
consumed in production and distribution of goods and vice versa. Separate taxation of goods and
services often requires splitting of transaction values into value of goods and services for taxation,
which leads to greater ccomplexities, administration and compliances costs. Integration of various
taxes into a GST sysytem would make it possible to give full credit for input taxes collected. GST,
being a destination based consumption tax based on VAT principle, would also greatly help in
removing economic distortions and will help in development of a common national market.

Using Microsoft Excel 2010 On The Heart Disease Mortality...
3.0 Statistics
Microsoft Excel 2010 was used to create a scatter plot of the heart disease mortality data rates versus
the total hardness of WTPs listed in Table 2.3.1. A linear regression using Microsoft Excel Data
Analysis Package, 2010 was used to find the correlation along with the R2 value and adjusted R2
value. The R2 values represent the percent of the variance of the data explained by the fitted line. In
this case, the R2 values represent the variance in heart disease rates that can be explained by the
change in drinking water hardness. The adjusted R2 value is dependent on the number of points within
the data. The significance of the R2 value was determined by the resulting p values. The test was
considered significant if the p value was less than 0.05. WTPs were further divided by levels of
hardness into moderately hard, hard, and very hard classifications to check for correlations within
classifications. Linear regressions were then run on each classification. The entire statistical analysis is
shown in the Appendix.
4.0 Results
The range of water hardness of the 31 WTPs varied from 93 mg/l to 448 mg/l of total hardness with an
average value of 180 mg/l. Of the 31 plants 17 had a total hardness between 120mg/l and 160mg/l,
accounting for 58% of the study area.
The total population heart disease mortality rate versus water hardness was first analyzed and a
positive correlation of 0.427 was obtained. The R2 value was found to be 0.183 indicating that 18.3%

The purpose of the wide range of genres and authors mentioned is to expose students to different
writing styles in a variety of settings. After exploring various poems from different authors, there will
be a class discussion to compare and contrast the various styles of each author. In a short writing
assignment that would only be a few paragraphs, the students would select an author to compare and
contrast to their own writing style. In my personal belief, the objective of this assignment is to provide
students with the opportunity to read and study other writers (13). This objective is outlined under the

Social Responsibility in the development of Alberta s Oil...
Introduction:
The oil sands development in northern Alberta has become a hot bed for debate between producers
and environmental groups. With worldwide water crisis rapidly developing the use of water in the
development Alberta s oil sands begs the question, are the oil sands in northern Alberta being
developed with social responsibility in mind? Social responsibility is a balance companies must
maintain between people, the planet and profit. Propaganda produced by environmental agencies and
oil companies must be examined for biases; environmentalists seem to blame all of Canada s
environmental ailments on evil oil companies (Thompson, 2012).
Stakeholders Affected: With so many people involved with the development of Alberta s oil ... Show

Government has been working closely with industry for years, which is also a key factor in developing
the oil sands in a socially responsible way. Most major oil companies are involved with initiatives like
Water for Life Strategy, Alberta Water Council and Petroleum Technology Alliance Canada (CAPP,
2012). Alberta s oil sands are being developed with social responsibility in mind.
Dr. Lorne Taylor (2012, p. 3), the chair of the Alberta Water Research Institute, states, Organizations
like Greenpeace and the Sierra Club are convincing Canadians and the world that Alberta s oil sands
are a scourge on the environment . Environmental groups and the media are unfortunately shedding a
poor light on the development of the oil sands in northern Alberta. Bob Weinhold (2011, pg. 119), a
veteran environmental journalist, states the Royal Society of Canada (RSC) panel found no evidence
that people are currently being harmed by oil sands activity . Both the environmentalist side and the
oil sands producer s side must be evaluated with an objective mind as each contains truths as well as
embellishments. Taylor (2009, pg. 2) argues that a major misconception is the province, people and
industry of Alberta

The Attack on Constantinople by the Crusaders
The Attack of Constantinople by Crusaders In his account of the Crusaders siege of Constantinople,
the Byzantine historian Nicetas Choniates, provides some compelling reports concerning the
behaviors of the Christian knights and peasants who formed the Crusader army that sought to wrest
control of the city from its defenders. In his account, Choniates makes the point that the Crusaders
little resembled the good hearted Christians they purported to be, but were more like a barbarian horde
in the brutality of their actions when reaching the city, which was a major center of the Christian faith
at the time. Moreover, the Crusaders had even sacked another Christian city, Zara, on their way to
Constantinople. It was clear, then, that these Crusaders were less interested in wresting the Holy Land
from the Moslems than they were in taking advantage of this opportunity to unjustly enrich
themselves at the expense of anyone who happened to get in their way. Unfortunately, Choniates also
emphasizes in his account that these actions were not those of just a few overzealous Crusaders, but
were rather characteristic of the actions of all of them. For instance, Choniates reports that, Nor,
indeed, were these crimes committed and others left undone, on the ground that these were of lesser
guilt, the others of greater. But with one consent all the most heinous sins and crimes were committed
by all with equal zeal. Moreover, the list of the types of sins and crimes that Choniates

Why Do You Want To Participate In The Ironbound Initiative...
I am currently a member and the treasurer for the Ironbound Initiative. I am also involved with the
Patient Partnership program as a First Year representative and am the director for the Mini Med
Program at NJMS. In addition, I am a member of the All E.A.R.S Program at NJMS and I sing in the
Vocal Chords Acapella Group.
2. Why do you want to participate in this global health trip? What are your goals, both personally and
for the two week trip as well as after the trip?
Through my participation in the Ironbound Initiative I have come to recognize the significant health
disparities and lack of access to care in the Portuguese and Brazilian communities in New Jersey.
Therefore, I hope that through this trip I will gain experiences and ... Show more content on

What do you think will be your greatest challenge?
On this trip, I anticipate communicating with people of a different culture may be a challenge.
Although I do not speak Brazilian Portuguese, I know that we will have a bilingual interpreter with us
as well as NJMS students who speak both languages and thus, I know that the language barrier will
not be a big challenge. More than the language, I want to be contentious on this trip regarding
acknowledging my privileges and that I need to understand the Brazilian approach to medicine in the
context of their culture as well as the resources available to them. Furthermore, I understand that I
have limited knowledge and skills as a first year medical student and so can only provide basic
medical services at this time. Therefore, I am most apprehensive about effectively understanding and
communicating with the Brazilian community and recognizing that currently I am only able to provide
a limited amount of aid to these communities.
4. How do you plan on financially supporting this endeavor? (Are you willing to fundraise as a team,
as well as apply to the available scholarships?)
I fully intend to apply to any available scholarships in order to fund this trip. I am also looking
forward to working with other students going on this trip in order to organize fundraisers such as bake
sales and raffles. I also intend to start a GoFundMe page as well as seek out local businesses for
sponsorship. Finally,

Personal Note On Ambition And Ambition
Ambition is what drove me to not give up. By this point we re all tired from school. We re sick of
doing the same thing every morning and coming home just to do it all over again the next day. But we
re told it ll be worth it when we re finally holding our diploma s and it will be. Because most of us
worked hard to be where we re at, some more than others. I was told the summer before eleventh
grade that I wasn t going to graduate. The sad thing is; is that it didn t surprise me. It got to the point
where I couldn t sleep. I never came to school, I didn t do any of my work, and I practically failed
everything. I told my guidance counselor at the time that I wanted to drop out because all of it seemed
impossible. Too impossible. How could I make up two years worth of classes in one? I just wanted to
take the easy way out, but I was tired of disappointing everyone around me. I wanted to make my
parents proud and I wanted to make myself proud. So I did what I needed to do and pushed myself to
catch up. It was a lot of extra hours at home, but I did it. I had that one person that believed in me, but
I still wasn t satisfied; I needed to prove it and I wanted my hard work and determination to show it,
so I got ahead. Then people started having doubts. That I couldn t possibly manage it and that I should
just be lucky that I caught up with everyone else. My new guidance counselor showed me how
capable I actually was , and it might have taken this experience to realize it. I was

Example Of Colonialism In Viajero
I. Introduction Viajero, a novel written by F. Sionil Jose, is a story of talks about a dreamer s journey
towards knowing and understanding himself. Viajero also tackled the history of the Philippines and
the behavior of Filipinos before the arrival of the Spaniards. The lead character of Viajero was an
orphan named Salvador Badong dela Raza (a Spanish phrase meaning Saviour of the Race ). He
became an orphan when his parent had died from the war. He was found by a native called Apo Tale
and was brought to his house, where his deaf mute daughter, Mayang, was waiting. There, Badong
was being cared of by Mayang. Unfortunately, six men with guns barged in to their household. He was
so afraid of the incident that he immediately ran off to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Said discusses three main ideas in the decolonizing cultural resistance: (1) the concept of national
language; (2) resistance as an alternative way of conceiving human history; and (3) a noticeable pull
away from separatist nationalism toward a more integrative view of human community and human
liberation (pp. 215 216). Roxas Tope (1998) wrote that the proponents of nationalism in the
Philippines during the 1960s thought that it was necessary to require the writing of Philippine history
by a Filipino and from the point of view of the Filipino, but when these works were published they
became textbooks, the repository of historical truths and canonical interpretations of the past (p. 24);
an act that can be considered as walking the fine line of the concept of Grand Narrative that both
postcolonial and postmodern schools of thought question. In the same line, Zialcita (2005) questioned
the overly nationalistic approach to the (re)writing of history because it highlights only the Spanish
state as the enemy of democrats and nationalists by the late nineteenth century and leaves out the
Spanish state that brought in symbols, values, and an organization whose unforeseen consequence was
an expanded sense of community where notions of democracy and nationalism germinated (p. 65).
Zialcita also observed this need to frame the definition of Filipino

How To Kill A Patriot Narrative
It took about a month for me to learn how to fight. He was also a good archer and he also learned me
how to use a bow and arrow because the soldiers were many and armed and we just could not fight
against without not have any weapons. So I became a good fighter and archer. So one night me and
Bill went to the soldiers camp, most of them were sleeping, but when we went to their airplane, some
of them that we did not noticed started to shoot at us, we shot back at them with our bows and fought
against them. Unfortunately they were to many, they beat me and Bill and took us to their prison. After
a few days in prison, the soldiers leader wanted to kill us. In the moment he was going to kill us, we
heard gunfire outside and after a moment something

Hyperbole Ideas Of Love In Sonnet 130 By William Shakespeare
Writers in the sixteenth century had grandiose ideas about love. The renaissance is a period when love
poems were common. Many of those poems came in the form of sonnets describing the author s love
interest. These sonnets include flowery language comparing women to objects such as the sun, moon,
and stars. William Shakespeare has also used this type of poem to describe women. He has also
employed the typical poetic devices in many of his sonnets. However, in Sonnet 130, Shakespeare
uses simile, hyperbole, and allegory to parody the conventional sonnets of his time. First, Shakespeare
employs simile to describe his speaker s love interest. A simile is a figure of speech comparing two
unlike things to make the description seem more vivid. Shakespeare uses simile to negate the likeness
of the woman s beauty to inanimate objects. He states, in the very first line, that her eyes are not like
the sun, which is in direct opposition to other sonnets of that time. Shakespeare implies that this
woman is not an epitome of beauty and that more beautiful things exist (Woolway). By reversing the
language, he conveys that describing a woman as a beautiful object seems almost ridiculous. He
continues the negative comparison throughout the poem proving he does not praise her for some
exalted, unrealistic standard of beauty (Kramer). The speaker loves his mistress for her imperfections
which Shakespeare exaggerates to make a point. Shakespeare uses hyperbole in his sonnet

A Streetcar Named Desire Character Analysis Essay
A Streetcar Named Desire written by Tennessee Williams portrayed a dynamic character named
Blanche as a nervous wreck, fragile, southern lady who has a tragic downfall in the end of this play.
Throughout this play, Williams develops her character traits though her past and background that
defines her soft, spoken language, her personality to those around her, and her past that affected her so
deeply that she has nowhere to find herself again. Her soft spoken language stands out from her
persona as she meets her sister in New Orleans. For example, when Blanche tells her sister,Stella,

(Schleifer 18) Arrests of people under the age of eighteen for violent crimes rose forty seven percent from 1988 to 1992. (Miller 174) The American Medical Association conducted a study that found a direct relationship between viewing and homicide. (Miller 176) Does this kind of overexposure to violence have a significant effect on children and teenagers? The answer is yes! Countrywide Financial Crisis Countrywide Financial, co founded in 1969 by Angelo Mozilo and David Loeb became the largest provider of home loans in the U.S., where one out of every six loans originated with Countrywide (Olster, 2010). Countrywide found its niche providing loans to minorities, those with less than stellar credit, and by issuing loans to low income families. Numerous families, unable to achieve the American dream, had the capability of becoming home owners, because Countrywide diminished the barriers preventing this group from obtaining home ownership (Ferrell, Fraedrich, Ferrell, 2013). • 4. Intracardiac Shunt Report The calculation of the intracardiac shunt ratio between the pulmonary and systemic circulation can determine the size of the shunt. The stroke volume in a normal heart is equal across the four cardiac valves, therefore equal on the right and left sides of the heart. However, when an intracardiac shunt is present the stroke volume of one side of the heart exceeds the stroke volume of the other side of the heart. Typically the intracardiac shunts are directed left to right due to higher pressures in the left heart and aorta. The increased blood flow returning to the left heart from the lungs results in a dilated left heart in the presence of ventricular septal defect. In order to calculate the intracardiac shunt ratio, the pulmonary venous circulation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Several studies have shown that spontaneous closure occurs with small defects that have a diameter of less than 3mm. Patients with muscular and perimembranous defects can expect for spontaneous closure to occur (Zhang et al., 2015). However, when significant shunting produces problems, treatment is unnecessary. Diuretics are often the first in line to relieve symptoms. Afterload reduction may also be used to promote systemic flow from left ventricle, reducing left to right shunting as a result. Defects that need surgical correction are often closed by placing a patch directly over it from the right ventricular side. Larger muscular apical defects require banding the pulmonary trunk to correct the pulmonary and systemic resistances and minimize shunting. Closing a defect for patients with Eisenmenger physiology would be detrimental since it would worsen the pulmonary hypertension by causing suprasystemic right ventricular systolic pressure. Cardiac catherization may be needed in these circumstances (Spicer et al., 2014). The prognosis is excellent for isolated ventricular septal defects. Patients who need surgical repair can also anticipate an excellent prognosis with zero mortality and minimal morbidity, without significant changes to the quality of life. Philosophy incorporates an immense range of topics and every person, place, thing, and idea has its roots implanted in it. Everybody has their own beliefs in life whether it s from religion, morals, or in essence everything in general. Philosophers try to answer the unknown questions in life that everyone is wanting to examine and have the answers to. I never even thought twice about the world we live in, I thought that it was just life and that s all to it; we live and we die. The new born baby would be able to hear the noise of the people in the hospital room, feel the arms around him, see the smiling faces, smell and taste the placenta he has been resting in for so long. The baby without senses would not even know it exists without having senses to understand his surroundings. Epistemology is how we gain and acquire knowledge. My empiricist epistemological view point is that nothing in the mind was put there without the help of the senses. Everything we know is based on learning from different people, or on our own. Rule books are not just zapped into our heads about how to do things. Every daily task we have in life goes back in time to the first person who thought of the idea. For example the first person to create a car, they would not have created it if they could not see, walk or talk. The person who created the first car would not know the long hours it takes to walk somewhere far away because they would not be able to feel the pain of soreness the day after. They would have never been able to experiment ways to create machinery that would make everyone s lives easier someday. I m sure he did not get it right the first time, but he learned through experience. I believe we learn something new every day through our senses, and we will continue to learn things through our senses. I cannot think of anything that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sydney: University of New South Wales Press In this chapter we are introduced to language being a basic resource with which we learn both in oral and written form and become a responsibility of teachers in the primary schooling years to allow this opportunity to be given to all. The debate over methods autonomous and ideological is discussed where the debate takes into consideration factors from the 20th century emphasising the literacy practice of learning. We are reading that the functional model of language is a social semiotic system used in many ways and the three ways that why this is useful being the role, the nature and learning to construct meanings of language. The chapter emphasises that to play, use, enjoy and adapt language is a goal for our children which can lead to providing the framework for a language program. Text and context are explained where we can change our language approach to suit the discourse. Through metafunctions as shown in table formation we are allowing ourselves to choose our language to make meanings. Within the classroom from this chapter we gain an insight into the social side, the making of choices and reflection of language for children. Gee, J.P. (1991). What is literacy? In C. Mitchell K. • 7. How Did Queen Elizabeth 1 Affect Society Queen Elizabeth I of England was a gracious, inspiring, and witty ruler that, in many ways, changed the course of history. Her ruling allowed England to flourish, gain wealth, and change in drastic ways. Queen Elizabeth started her rule in 1583 when she was 25 years old. Prior to Elizabeth becoming Queen, a terrible ruler made the country of England an unstable country. This ruler was Queen Mary, who ruled all of England and Ireland in the early 1500 s. During her rule, Mary was not a good queen. After many years of being a Protestant nation, Queen Mary wanted to return England to its former ways of Catholicism. She always advocated that women could do anything, despite of their differences (Chloe H). She was living proof that women can be independent, and that they have the potential to do anything if they set their mind to it. She refused to marry, which set a great example to all the women of England. Elizabeth, also known as The Virgin Queen , taught women they do not need a husband to live a good life. I can remember rare occasions as a child when I would wake up for school and there would be pancakes, eggs and bacon on the table and orange juice or Sunny Delight to drink. These exciting occasions, however, were just that: rare. Most days I would bound down the stairs to the toaster loaded with Pop Tarts. I would usually be disappointed that I couldn t devour a wholesome breakfast, but I later came to understand the convenience of the Pop Tart. Over the years they have come out with a variety of different flavors including chocolate, French toast and a very popular s mores version. The company decided not to frost the original version because the creators thought that the frosting might melt in the toaster. The developers later came to realize that the frosting would not melt in the toaster, however, and the first Pop Tarts with frosting were released for sale in 1967. • 9. Similarities Between Martin Luther King Jr And Malala Youfzai Your Intro: According to Martin Luther King Jr, Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable... Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggles (brainyquote.com). This is a very powerful quote because if you do not struggle or sacrifice in life, when come to a point where you have to make decisions or take action, you re not going to be able to decide what to do or think. This is how we progress and go forward, because we make mistakes and learn from them to make things better in the world around us. In fact, Dr. King s quote suggests that struggle often motivates change. For example, Many activists have been motivated by their personal struggles. These are people who can truly speak for their cause, because they lived it,and really understand what they say and do. Activists who were motivated by their personal struggles are people like Harriet Tubman, Martin Luther King Jr. and Malala Yousafzai. Even though they all struggled with different things at different times, their struggles motivated them to speak out for their cause and change the world. William Shakespeare is a well known play writer from the 1600s. Shakespeare is known for his tragedies like Macbeth. Macbeth was written between 1606 1607 and published in the First Folio of 1623 (Bevington). Shakespeare uses motives to explain why Macbeth kills king Duncan of Scotland and many of his loyal followers. Lady Macbeth told Macbeth that if he did not kill Duncan then he was not a man. Shakespeare never wastes words, and least of all in Macbeth. Lady Macbeth is first introduced to us reading the latter portion of a letter she has just received from her husband, telling her of his meeting with the witches and of their prophesy that he is to be king. The letter, and Lady Macbeth s soliloquy which follows, describe Macbeth s character and interpret her own. They show us many things that Lady Macbeth is the source of his mental strength and resolution, that they have talked over the situation of affairs in the kingdom, with all its possibilities, both those which may be depended upon to come unaided and those which may be forced to an issue (Gerwig). Lady Macbeth is the mastermind behind the killing of King Duncan she gets into Macbeth s head and convinces him the killing Duncan is the only way to fulfil the prophecy from the witches. If the director were to involve such scenes in the movie, it would mean more running time, more actors, more locations, and it would cost more money. In order to not take the burden it was decided to not include such scenes. The downside of that idea is that, these specific scenes would have made the movie much more interesting. Although methadone has become the most popular in opioid addiction treatment, the issue with this treatment is that it is only able to be prescribed by clinicians to a certain amount of patients (Wesson Smith, 2010). As a result, many other medications have been researched and studied for treatment such as, buprenorphine. Buprenorphine prescribed by a physician in their office to a client, and then the client is then able to take the prescription in the comfort of their own home (Wesson et al, 2010). This, unlike methadone is prescribed as a tablet or an injectable formulation, or a generic powder (Wesson et al, 2010). While the two drugs have contrasts, they also have much in common. For example, they may decrease risky behaviors of addicts and preserve cognitive function in early treatment. Buprenorphine works in the brain similarly to methadone, and it allows for an abuser to maintain treatment in the comfort of their own home, at their own convince rather than at the demand of a clinician. Buprenorphine is considered a partial opiate agonist meaning it is an antagonist at the kappa opiate receptor (Wesson et al, 2010). This explains the dysphoria and other unpleasant effect that may be produced by the drug in opiate users (Wesson et al, 2010). • 19. Rhetorical Analysis Of `` Catch `` By Chris Leggett Essay There are many ways to write a literary essay on a text, choosing the most effective method depends on what the writer is trying to accomplish. What is most important is understanding what one is writing about and effectively delivering it. In the sample essay, Tossing Metaphors Together in Robert Francis s Catch by Chris Leggett, Leggett writes an analysis paper in which he analyzes the extended metaphor of the poem. While in the sample essay, How William Faulkner s Narrator Cultivates a Rose for Emily by Tony Groulx, Groulx writes a research paper where he researches various aspects of the story. These two essays demonstrate two distinct approaches taken to discuss a poem and a story. From beginning to end, both approaches are a process that require focus and patience. At the end they should both provide the reader with further insight into the text. To write an effective thesis driven essay about a literary text, the writer must understand the text, organize their information clearly, and support their papers purpose. In Leggett s essay, he analyzes the poem Catch by Robert Francis. Poems can be challenging to analyze, as there are many elements to consider, such as metaphors, symbolism, and tone. Leggett chooses to focus on only four key words from the poem, then constructs his essay around each word. He states that the entire poem s meaning can be cut down to these four words, attitudes, latitudes, interludes, and altitudes. By focusing on only a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In this paper, we aim to fill what we, as researchers and teachers in qualitative psychology, have experienced as a current gap: the absence of a paper which adequately outlines the theory, application, and evaluation of thematic analysis, and one which does so in a way accessible to students and those not particularly familiar with qualitative research. 1 That is, we aim to write a paper which will be useful as both a teaching and research tool in qualitative psychology. Therefore, in this paper we discuss theory and method for thematic analysis, and clarify the similarities and differences between different approaches that share features in common with a thematic approach. Qualitative approaches are incredibly diverse, complex and nuanced (Holloway Todres, 2003), and thematic analysis should be seen as a foundational method for qualitative analysis. It is the first qualitative method of analysis that researchers should learn, as it provides core skills that will be useful for conducting many other forms of qualitative analysis. Indeed, Holloway and Todres (2003: 347) identify thematizing meanings as one of a few shared generic skills across qualitative analysis.2 For this reason, Boyatzis (1998) characterises it not as a specific method but as a tool to use across different methods. • 36. The Philosophy Of Tax Reform The philosophy of tax reform has undergone significant changes over the years in keeping with the changing perception of the role of the state.‭‬ The recent approaches to tax reforms lay emphasis on minimizing distortions in tax policy to keep the economy competitive.‭‬ Minimizing distortions implies reducing the marginal rates of both direct and indirect taxes.‭‬ To achieve this,‭‬ emphasis has shifted from vertical equity to horizontal equity. The concept‭‬ of‭‬GST‭‬or‭‬ One Nation,‭‬ One Tax‭‬has gained prominence in recent times.‭‬ It has become a buzzword in the vocabulary of polity and economic reforms.‭‬ Article‭‬ 366‭‬ of Indian constitution defines GST as‭‬ any tax on supply of goods or services or both except taxes on ... Goods and Services Tax: Its Need In India: Introduction of GST to replace the existing mutiple tax structures of Centre and State taxes is not only desirable but imperative in the emerging economic environment. Increasingly, services are used or consumed in production and distribution of goods and vice versa. Separate taxation of goods and services often requires splitting of transaction values into value of goods and services for taxation, which leads to greater ccomplexities, administration and compliances costs. Integration of various taxes into a GST sysytem would make it possible to give full credit for input taxes collected. GST, being a destination based consumption tax based on VAT principle, would also greatly help in removing economic distortions and will help in development of a common national market. • 37. Using Microsoft Excel 2010 On The Heart Disease Mortality... 3.0 Statistics Microsoft Excel 2010 was used to create a scatter plot of the heart disease mortality data rates versus the total hardness of WTPs listed in Table 2.3.1. A linear regression using Microsoft Excel Data Analysis Package, 2010 was used to find the correlation along with the R2 value and adjusted R2 value. The R2 values represent the percent of the variance of the data explained by the fitted line. In this case, the R2 values represent the variance in heart disease rates that can be explained by the change in drinking water hardness. The adjusted R2 value is dependent on the number of points within the data. The significance of the R2 value was determined by the resulting p values. The test was considered significant if the p value was less than 0.05. WTPs were further divided by levels of hardness into moderately hard, hard, and very hard classifications to check for correlations within classifications. Linear regressions were then run on each classification. The entire statistical analysis is shown in the Appendix. 4.0 Results The range of water hardness of the 31 WTPs varied from 93 mg/l to 448 mg/l of total hardness with an average value of 180 mg/l. Of the 31 plants 17 had a total hardness between 120mg/l and 160mg/l, accounting for 58% of the study area. The total population heart disease mortality rate versus water hardness was first analyzed and a positive correlation of 0.427 was obtained. The R2 value was found to be 0.183 indicating that 18.3% of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Hypothetical English Class Analysis While creating the course syllabus for the hypothetical English class of twenty five tenth graders, my main focus was centered on trying to emphasis the importance of implementing critical thinking skills. My high school English teacher, Mrs. Neiswonger, whom I had for both Honors English 10 and AP Literature 12 class taught me how to think critically. Before having her, my essays received the same generic grade and comments. While these comments were typically positive, they weren t teaching me anything. After exploring various poems from different authors, there will be a class discussion to compare and contrast the various styles of each author. In a short writing assignment that would only be a few paragraphs, the students would select an author to compare and contrast to their own writing style. In my personal belief, the objective of this assignment is to provide students with the opportunity to read and study other writers (13). This objective is outlined under the Pillars of Writing Success as one of the six main needs for students. Furthermore, this assignment challenges the students to think critically and establish an idea of their own writing style. Social responsibility is a balance companies must maintain between people, the planet and profit. Alberta s oil sands are being developed with social responsibility in mind. Dr. Lorne Taylor (2012, p. 3), the chair of the Alberta Water Research Institute, states, Organizations like Greenpeace and the Sierra Club are convincing Canadians and the world that Alberta s oil sands are a scourge on the environment . • 41. The Attack on Constantinople by the Crusaders The Attack of Constantinople by Crusaders In his account of the Crusaders siege of Constantinople, the Byzantine historian Nicetas Choniates, provides some compelling reports concerning the behaviors of the Christian knights and peasants who formed the Crusader army that sought to wrest control of the city from its defenders. In his account, Choniates makes the point that the Crusaders little resembled the good hearted Christians they purported to be, but were more like a barbarian horde in the brutality of their actions when reaching the city, which was a major center of the Christian faith at the time. Moreover, the Crusaders had even sacked another Christian city, Zara, on their way to Constantinople. It was clear, then, that these Crusaders were less interested in wresting the Holy Land from the Moslems than they were in taking advantage of this opportunity to unjustly enrich themselves at the expense of anyone who happened to get in their way. Unfortunately, Choniates also emphasizes in his account that these actions were not those of just a few overzealous Crusaders, but were rather characteristic of the actions of all of them. For instance, Choniates reports that, Nor, indeed, were these crimes committed and others left undone, on the ground that these were of lesser guilt, the others of greater. But with one consent all the most heinous sins and crimes were committed by all with equal zeal. Moreover, the list of the types of sins and crimes that Choniates ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We re sick of doing the same thing every morning and coming home just to do it all over again the next day. But we re told it ll be worth it when we re finally holding our diploma s and it will be. Because most of us worked hard to be where we re at, some more than others. I was told the summer before eleventh grade that I wasn t going to graduate. The sad thing is; is that it didn t surprise me. It got to the point where I couldn t sleep. I never came to school, I didn t do any of my work, and I practically failed everything. I told my guidance counselor at the time that I wanted to drop out because all of it seemed impossible. Too impossible. How could I make up two years worth of classes in one? So I did what I needed to do and pushed myself to catch up. It was a lot of extra hours at home, but I did it. I had that one person that believed in me, but I still wasn t satisfied; I needed to prove it and I wanted my hard work and determination to show it, so I got ahead. Said discusses three main ideas in the decolonizing cultural resistance: (1) the concept of national language; (2) resistance as an alternative way of conceiving human history; and (3) a noticeable pull away from separatist nationalism toward a more integrative view of human community and human liberation (pp. 215 216). Roxas Tope (1998) wrote that the proponents of nationalism in the Philippines during the 1960s thought that it was necessary to require the writing of Philippine history by a Filipino and from the point of view of the Filipino, but when these works were published they became textbooks, the repository of historical truths and canonical interpretations of the past (p. 24); an act that can be considered as walking the fine line of the concept of Grand Narrative that both postcolonial and postmodern schools of thought question. In the same line, Zialcita (2005) questioned the overly nationalistic approach to the (re)writing of history because it highlights only the Spanish state as the enemy of democrats and nationalists by the late nineteenth century and leaves out the Spanish state that brought in symbols, values, and an organization whose unforeseen consequence was an expanded sense of community where notions of democracy and nationalism germinated (p. 65). • 46. Hyperbole Ideas Of Love In Sonnet 130 By William Shakespeare Writers in the sixteenth century had grandiose ideas about love. The renaissance is a period when love poems were common. Many of those poems came in the form of sonnets describing the author s love interest. These sonnets include flowery language comparing women to objects such as the sun, moon, and stars. William Shakespeare has also used this type of poem to describe women. He has also employed the typical poetic devices in many of his sonnets. However, in Sonnet 130, Shakespeare uses simile, hyperbole, and allegory to parody the conventional sonnets of his time. First, Shakespeare employs simile to describe his speaker s love interest. A simile is a figure of speech comparing two unlike things to make the description seem more vivid. Shakespeare uses simile to negate the likeness of the woman s beauty to inanimate objects. He states, in the very first line, that her eyes are not like the sun, which is in direct opposition to other sonnets of that time. Shakespeare implies that this woman is not an epitome of beauty and that more beautiful things exist (Woolway). By reversing the language, he conveys that describing a woman as a beautiful object seems almost ridiculous. He continues the negative comparison throughout the poem proving he does not praise her for some exalted, unrealistic standard of beauty (Kramer). The speaker loves his mistress for her imperfections which Shakespeare exaggerates to make a point. Shakespeare uses hyperbole in his sonnet ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
