1.1. Community Based Natural Resource Management (CBNRM): Opening Doors for Market
Oriented Approaches Over the past twenty years, CBNRM has been adopted as a panacea for
achieving sustainable NRM and rural economic development in East and Southern Africa [13].
CBNRM was born out of the wisdom that most causes of rural resource degradation take place
due to centralised governance systems that exclude local communities from accessing resources
in protected areas [14]. Thus, Nyirenda et al. [15], note that CBNRM should contribute to
improved collective action in NRM. The net benefits of this approach include among others rural
poverty alleviation, enhancing conservation, strengthening rural economies, empowering local
community management capability in order to lead to long term social, economic and
ecological benefits [13]. CBNRM has been implemented using different models notable among
which include Zimbabwe s CAMPFIRE [16], and LIFE in Namibia [13]. According to Nelson
and Agrawal [14], most scholars and CBNRM practitioners reveal that the approach has not fully
achieved its objectives. For instance, in Zambia, CBNRM programmes have been affected by
poor governance in the local community institutions [15,17]. In Botswana, Nelson and Agrawal
[14], assert the lack of political will to manage wildlife using CBNRM model as one of the
challenges. Additionally, some models such as CAMPFIRE have been criticised as meeting only
conservation objectives at the expense of

Benefits Of An Limited Liability Company From A Legal...
The LLC remains a limited liability company from a legal standpoint, but for tax purposes it can
be treated as an S Corp. Be sure to contact the state s income tax agency where you plan to file
your election form. Ask about the tax requirements and if they recognize elections of other entities
(such as the S Corp).
Advantages of an LLC:
Limited Liability. Members are protected from personal liability for business decisions or actions
of the LLC. This means that if the LLC incurs debt or is sued, members personal assets are usually
exempt. This is similar to the liability protections afforded to shareholders of a corporation. Keep in
mind that limited liability means limited liability members are not necessarily shielded from
wrongful acts, including those of their employees.
Less Recordkeeping. An LLC s operational ease is one of its greatest advantages. Compared to an
S Corporation, there is less registration paperwork and there are smaller start up costs.
Sharing of Profits. There are fewer restrictions on profit sharing within an LLC, as members
distribute profits as they see fit. Members might contribute different proportions of capital and
sweat equity. Consequently, it s up to the members themselves to decide who has earned what
percentage of the profits or losses.
Disadvantages of an LLC:
Limited Life. In many states, when a member leaves an LLC, the business is dissolved and the
members must fulfill all remaining legal and business obligations to close

Social Conformity And Consumerism In American Culture
During 1950s and 1960s, social conformity and consumerism were a big part of our American
culture. Definition of social conformity is a type of influence that changes people s behavior
and belief in order to fit in to a group, when everyone wants to be just like everyone else.
Consumerism is the protection or promotion of the interests of consumers, when we spending
much more on item then we need, and is not necessarily. The two primary sources are The Status
Seekers by Vance Packard, 1959. And The Twilight Zone, Number Twelve Looks Like You
(Season 5, Episode 17, aired on January 24, 1964). The TV show, The Twilight Zone, in a future

Vance Oakley Packard, an American journalist and writer wrote the book. Packard earned his
master degree in journalism in 1937; he worked for numbers of newspapers and magazines. He
had an enjoyable middle class life, and later on he moved to a wealthy area in New Canaan,
Connecticut. When he lost his job for American Magazine, he was collecting paycheck from
social welfare. The American society and culture was big part of Packard s life, because he has
wrote more than books about it. The Status Seekers was published in 1959, during the baby
boom era and post war era. Baby boomers were people who were born between 1946 1964, when
the birth rate and marriage rate was increasing every year, but divorce rate stay low until the mid
1960s. Around the same time was the economic boom, due to New Deal programs. In the late
1940s to early 1960s, U.S. workers produced 57% of planet s steel, 43% of planet s electricity,
62% of its oil, 80% of its automobiles, and possessed 75% of the world s gold supplies. The
book griping the problem about how the middle class who want to live a life just like or better

them, and he is well know about the middles class life. The way they spend their money, made
them feel good about themselves, and most the shoppers were women. They strive to look their
most chic and poised, and if the trip is a success they feel pride, pleasure and prestige in
patronizing the store and in the satisfaction of looking down on the customers of the lower status
store (where women typically don t dress up to shop). (Packard 129). When you dress better, other
people will treat you better and vice versa. The other thing is people tended to pretending have
money to spend on that fancy stuff, but really they don t have that kind of money to spend. When
they go for new cloth shopping, catch up with the newest

Gay Justice In Plato s Encouragement For Gay Rights
Plato s Encouragement for Gay Rights
In Plato s Republic, several competing explanations of justice are offered. First, we hear
Thrasymachus s account of justice in Book I, as being the advantage of the stronger. We then
receive Glaucon s explanation of justice in Book II: the agreement between men to act just in
order to avoid the pain of being on the receiving end of an unjust act. Finally, Socrates provides us
with the best definition of justice, saying that justice is the result of three specific classes
performing their function within a city in order for the collaboration to conclude in self
sufficiency. Socrates s definition of justice outshines those of Thrasymachus and Glaucon because
he takes into account that not every person is the same, but everyone is equal. Socrates s
refutations of both Thrasymachus and Glaucon help completely shape his argument of what justice
is when it comes to Book 4. Socrates made his definition of justice general enough to where it
accounted for everyone in the city. As long as everyone performed the duty they were naturally
capable of, they were just.
I am taking three explanations of justice mentioned in Plato s Republic to talk about the injustice
toward the gay community and my personal encounter of the unjust society with being seriously
involved with a woman of color. Ever since I was little, I knew I was attracted to the same sex, but I
remained too afraid to act on my feelings. I desperately desired to be accepted and considered

Shirley Jackson s The Lottery
The Lottery By Shirley Jackson: A Delightful Village Conducting Civic Activities The Lottery, is a
short story written by Shirley Jackson that uses the most skillful and destructive aspects to
consistently tumble readers expectations about what is going to happen next or even at all. On an
ordinary day, members of a rural village participate in a yearly drawing in which everyone s name
is entered and due to its belief in an ancient superstition in which human sacrifice ensures good
crops, the community stones the winner of the lottery. The lottery, taking place in a small village
that may seem soothing, and a good place to raise a family is not always what it seems to be. The
title along with the first few paragraphs confirm a false sense of hope to the audience. Throughout
the short story, the author thoroughly present contrast, even from the names of Mr. Summers and
Mr. Graves. Shirley Jacksonchooses occurrences that provide contrast of reader expectations versus
the harsh reality and analyzes them carefully.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without hesitation, the title itself brings to mind the actual definition of a lottery: an instance
based on chance. That definition mentions nothing about a chance being good or bad but without
any second thoughts, this drives the audience to think about money, prize, or anything resulting in
victory. In reality, winning a lottery is a reason for celebration. The readers are expecting some
sort of positive victory from the author, but instead, what comes apparent by the end of Jackson s
story is that this lottery certainly isn t what you want to win. No one wants to get hit by stones for
being chosen for this deadly lottery. By titling her story The Lottery, Jackson keeps the grim
meaning of the story under wraps until the last possible second, allowing her message to deliver

Plot in Their Eyes Were Watching God by Hurston Zora
All of this takes place in a rural town of West Florida called Eatonville in the early twentieth
century. I was amazed at the story, symbols and images that this novel creates. The symbolism
and metaphorical language used also brought interest and an urge to want to read more. In the
novel Their eyes were watching God by Hurston Zora, Janie Crawford is a black middle aged
woman who has an intriguing story to tell. She has been away from her home town for few
years and comes back to be welcomed by harsh and barely near factual gossip and criticism. In
life, criticism is inevitable like death, whether it s positive or negative. What I found interesting
is how Janie brushes off and takes no offense to the harsh gossip from her neighbors when she
returned. The reason for that is because Janie left and found herself, she has lived life, got
married a couple of times and know what life is outside of her town. She knew what love was
and also knew what it felt like to be happy and hurt. Janie Crawford experienced things that any
of the females who gossiped about her hasn t. The story of her life begins to unfold as she sits
with Phoebe Watson, her friend for decades that brought her some mullato rice. I think Phoebe
shows signs of hypocrisy because although she defended Janie when the other women spoke
badly about her, prior to Janie s arrival she accompanied these women daily as they gossiped
about other people. Sheep don t stay in the presence of wolves for too long. Well, nobody

My Life Goals For College
Most of my pre teen years I thought I was not able to go to college. I thought it was too expensive
and that only the smart people and people who had enough money could go. Until I got to middle
school, I found out about scholarships and how they can really help students of parents with low
income go to college. I wanted to learn more and more about programs that help students like me.
I wanted to make my parents proud but most importantly, myself. I think college is a gateway to
a million possibilities and doing the things you love for the rest of your life. This was the start
of my lifelong goals. I was born in Walla Walla Washington, on September 5th of 2000 but was
raised in Lakewood Washington. I m the oldest of my three siblings. Both of my parents come
from Oaxaca, Mexico. As the oldest sibling, I never had help with school. This kind of affected me
with school. My grandparents didn t have enough money to pay for my parents high school
education. I was raised to have responsibilities ate the age of 9, when my parents worked a lot
because they needed money. I now go to Mount Tahoma high school and will be a graduate of
class of 2019 next year. I am hoping that I get enough help to pay for college. I also am the first
generation in my family that will attend college, I used to think I wasn t going to be able to know
things about college because my parents didn t know anything about it, but then I joined a college
program that showed me what college really was.

Essay about Importance of the Ocean in Chopin s Awakening
Importance of the Ocean in Chopin s Awakening
In Kate Chopin s novel, The Awakening, Chopin uses the motif of the ocean to signify the
awakening of Edna Pontellier. Chopin compares the life of Edna to the dangers and beauty of a
seductive ocean. Edna s fascinations with the unknown wonders of the sea help influence the reader
to understand the similarities between Edna s life and her relationship with the ocean. Starting with
fear and danger of the water then moving to a huge symbolic victory over it, Chopin uses the
ocean as a powerful force in Edna s awakening to the agony and complexity of her life.
Danger and beauty serve as Edna s first outlook on the ocean. Early in her development, Edna
observes the ocean ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The voice of the sea speaks to the soul. (14) Edna s senses are stimulated by all the sounds of the
ocean. Along with the call of the sea, Edna becomes more aware of her own self and desires,
which lead her to look within herself. As Edna s relationship with the ocean becomes more
intimate, she treats the ocean as if it were her lover and true desire. The touch of the sea is
sensuous enfolding the body in its soft, close embrace. The `dreaded fear has now converted to a
`sensuous outlook. Edna is hungry to experience all the elements of the ocean and, at the same
time, she is opening herself to exploring her inner feelings.
With her new familiarity with the sea, Edna constructs a divergent perspective of the water and
its potent force in her life. The new awareness gives Edna courage to face her fears. Instead of
depending on someone to help her in the water, she decides to start swimming by herself. This
act represents a major step in Edna s awakening to independence. One day, Edna becomes
possessed with a power that she all of a sudden realizes she has inside her. A feeling of exultation
overtook her, as if some power of significant import had been given her soul. She grew daring and
reckless, overestimating her strength. She wanted to swim far out, where no woman had swum

The Hazards Of The Abandoned Mining
Abandoned Mining
This hazard is important because rain, snow or wind will move materials from the abandoned place
and would contaminate aquifers through their recharge zone. It is important to first solve the use
and dispose of chemical elements exposed in a mine before abandoning it.
Ore deposits
Very often, the presence of certain elements, such as mercury, arsenic or radioactive elements, are
concentrated in an area close to the aquifers and represent a hazard. When drilling claystone is
easy to find high emissions of radiation and it is possible to read it through electrical registers
inside the well like Gamma Ray, Spontaneous Potential, and Resistivity.
Waste
Several hazards for the aquifers come from solid and liquid residues ... Show more content on

It is the authorities competency to authorize the industry activities. Villa Pinzon, Cundinamarca, a
small town less than one hundred miles from Bogota, is located in the Bogota River Valley. A
leather industry used to use titanium to improve its manufacturing processes; after the process was
finished, the water used was poured to the Bogota River, contaminating the river s water. There are
aquifers that recharge from the Bogota River s water.
Agriculture
If the agriculture industry has advanced technological methods, that itself is a hazard for aquifers
because the water used in the process could be contaminated with chemical products such as
pesticides, insecticides or organic residues and after could go to the recharge zone for one or more
aquifers. Discriminated fumigation with glyphosate to eradicate illegal plantations contaminates
stream waters which could contaminate aquifers through recharge zones.
Over exploitation
Aquifers have a recharge area and a discharge limit, both dependent on the natural hydrogeological
and hydrological conditions. These conditions are based on the aquifers geometry, extension and
rock type among other characteristics. When the pumping amount overrides the limit and the
recharge area is not providing enough water to supply, there is a risk of overexploitation and
contamination of the aquifer.
Risk management
Due to failing projects to provide a sustainable source of drinkable water to

The Effect Of Plyometric Exercises On The Body s Power...
Plyometrics or plyos for short refer to the exercises in which muscles exert a maximum force
over a short period of time. The goal of these plyometric exercises are to increase one s power and
force output. At the physiological level, the plyometric exercises work by combining the eccentric
phase, followed by a rapid shortening of muscleor the concentric phase. It specifically induces
more motor units to be recruited, the strength of the neural impulses for reflexes to increase, and
adjusts the elastic properties of both muscle tissue and connective tissue. This movement from
muscle extension to rapid contraction allows for an athlete, weightlifter, or an ordinary Average
Joe to incorporate a more explosive mentality to their workouts. In fact, many of the training
regiments out there incorporate some sort of plyometric exercise because it successfully
improves strength, power, coordination, and athletic performance; which is why it is as curious
to researchers as they want to discover how it truly works and what muscles it targets. For a group
of researchers from the Stellenbosch University Department of Physiological Sciences in South
Africa, it was the main discussion for their research. Doctor Filippo Macaluso, Ashwin W. Isaacs,
MSC, and Doctor Kathryn H. Myburgh in their research article entitled Preferential Type II Muscle
Fiber Damage from Plyometric Exercise , they experimented the effects that plyometric exercises
had on muscle fiber types and analyze the

Mrs Sowerberry s Influence On The Character Of Dr Fagin
Noah Claypole is the perfect example of how environment can corrupt children : he is an
apprentice of Mr. Sowerberry and was often ridiculed by other boys. As a result he started bullying
others too, and it is no surprise that he later joins Fagin. Among the young female characters,
Nancy would be the counterpart to Rose. She too have been corrupted by Faginwho drove her into
prostitution. But unlike the Artful Dodger, she kept a sense of what is good and bad : even this
degraded being felt too proud to betray a feeble gleam of the womanly feeling which she thought a

This novel is indeed quite a political statement : children characters are shown unfit for a harsh
environment and the only outcome for them is to die at a young age, like Dick or Nancy.
Dickens is thus arguing that the Original Sin is a belief that belongs to the past, and that children
should be protected from misery, labour and mistreatment. However, Oliver doesn t die and his
inherent goodness and innocence seem to remain uncorrupted by the people he encounters and
the course of events. Dickens may have made a symbol out of Oliver, the ideal of the Romantic
child if kept from corruption. Oliver is what the other misfortunate children of the novel could
have been. He is what they should have been : good, innocent and pious. Oliver twist was a
popular novel among the middle class at the time it was published : although Victorian poor
children were exploited in factories, mine and workhouses, literary Victorians who were mostly
middle class had a certain affection for orphans and pauper children. Dickens specifically targeted
his middle class audience to trigger its compassion for unfortunate children beyond literature, thats

Crackdown on Homeless: This headline appeared the day after the presumed homeless man

of the newspaper was to convince Truman that the person he encountered was a homeless man and
that SeaHaven is trying to get the homeless out.

This was so the viewer had complete satisfaction. They used reasonable angles such as store

Pedagogy From The Greek Paidagogia Is The Art And...
Pedagogy from the greek Paidagogia is the art and science of education and the way we teach.
Interest in studying pedagogy and how effective pedagogy is transmitted has increased in recent
years and there are a multitude of sources that we can explore and analyse in order to answer that
question. (M. K. Smith 2012a). Educationis about giving time to discover new concepts whilst
being encouraged to do so in a social environment (M, K, Smith 2012b). Education in general is a
very practical activity and is concerned with changing old principles as well as teaching new
perceptions. Many people have the misconception that pedagogyis only about teaching, it has other
forms, a process of living and not a preparation of future living. (John Dewey 1963). The process
of education and teaching is carried out by several people during our lives, parents and carers,
work colleagues, acquaintances and friends and specialist educators (M. K. Smith 2012c).
A pedagogue in Ancient Greek society was a very important person. There was a noticeable
difference between a pedagogue and a teacher. A pedagogue was very much part of the
household of the young learner, often slaves who were trusted by their master to guide their
children through everyday life. The role of a pedagogue was to act as a companion, ensuring
safety and to act as a guardian during schooling. The pedagogue was responsible for most aspects
of the young child s life in the early years from aged seven to aged sixteen and they

Evaluation Of A Management Development Program
Management Development Program
As stated in the Hall Lecture Five, development is the effort to improve an employees abilities to
handle a variety of assignments to cultivate employees capabilities beyond those required by the
current job (2016). In order for a management development program to be effective, a performance
management and performance appraisal system should be developed or created. A performance
management system should be consistent with the strategic mission of the organization, beneficial
as a development tool, useful as an administrative tool, legal job related, viewed as generally fair by
employees, and effective in documenting employee performance (Belhaven University, 2016).
Firstly, understanding the difference between performance management and performance appraisal
is key when developing and comparing a management development program. Performance
management is a series of activities designed to ensure the organization gets the performance it
needs from its employees (Belhaven University, 2016). Performance appraisal is a process of
determining how well employees do their jobs relative to a standard communicating that
information to them (Belhaven University, 2016). The appraisal performance system should
include category scaling methods, graphic rating scales, comparative methods, narrative methods,
and management by objectives or MBO (Belhaven University, 2016).

The Gospel Of John And The Writing Of His Gospel
Reading through the Gospel of John can bring up many questions about the fourth canonical
book and the writing of his gospel. Some of those questions have answers and some do not. In
this essay we will take a look at some of them that has biblical answers. The first question is did
John write the gospel bearing his name? Second, who was the audience that he was writing to?
Third, what was the purpose of John writing the gospel?
Did John write the gospel bearing his name? In the gospel of John it never provides the name of the
author. There are no other indications in the bible either. There are two important factors that tell us
that John is the author. In the Gospel of John it identifies the author as the disciple whom Jesus
loved. This likely pointed to John and there are three reasons. First, John was one of the twelve
disciples, he was a witness of the actual events (John 21:14). He was part of the inner circle of
the disciples because Mary told him first of the resurrection (John 20:1 10). John was
distinguished from others in the book. The Gospel of John was discovered around AD 135.
However, some scholars think that it was written (AD 70) when Jerusalem was destroyed. This
writer believes that AD 85 90 is the more accepted time for the writing of the Gospel of John.
Who was the audience that he was writing to? John was writing to the church, I believe that he was
also writing to the people who did not believe. John focuses on the divinity of Jesus Christ. The

Organizational Structure Of A Corporation
Appex Corporation
When Ghosh joined Appex, he walked into a company full of chaos with no definable structure.
The rapidly growing company was ill equipped to manage its growth at the rate it was expanding.
There were no formal policies or structures in place to manage this exponential growth. As the
number of products increased the lack of structure became more pronounced. The work became
mostly crisis management, leading to a decline in customer focus and production. Additionally,
finances were not managed with any planning or structure causing Appex to lose money rapidly.
Ghosh, eager to test his skills, attempted several organizational structures to stabilize Appex.
Circular Structure
Circular structure is a nonhierarchical organization structure with the senior executives in the
center. The circle centers on the executives, followed by the managers, then employees, and then
the customers. Ghosh used this system as an attempt to create a continuous flow of information
through the organization. One problem identified was that current employees could not relate and
new hires did not understand. New hires looked for a hierarchical structure to understand the flow
of power for decisions and their performance evaluation but were unable to identify such within this
organizational structure. Additionally, this structure did not formalize any type of business planning.
Horizontal structure The horizontal structure is the traditional vertical organizational structure

The Harsh And Cold War At Valley Forge Analysis
The Harsh and Cold War at Valley Forge
The freezing air is blowing as I lay in bed listening to the soldiers moan struggling to survive in this
harsh war. There are many bitter conditions here at Valley Forge. There is a big risk staying here as
we struggle to stay alive. My hut is filled with smoke and is surrounded by the cold snow. We have
huts that are a few feet long and have a small fireplace on one side and a door on the other. The
food here is horrible and barely keeps us alive. We get a small piece of meat each day and a little bit
of cornmeal. I have decided to re enlist for 3 reasons which are that I need to fight for a cause, to

Deborah Pennimpede s What Is A Commuter Student
Coherence and emphasis in an essay are almost as important in an essay as is the content is.
Without coherence and emphasis, the reader will simply lose interest in the essay or they will be
unable to follow what the author is trying to share. However, the author must be considerate about
when and how coherence and emphasis are created. In the essay, What is a Commuter Student? by
Deborah Pennimpede, the author advantageously employs strategies of coherence and emphasis
throughout. The coherence in the essay What is a Commuter Student? is like peanut butter between
two pieces of bread it holds the essay together, while at the same time makes it easy to digest. The
author achieves coherence through her transitional phrases, her connection... Show more content on

The same goes for emphasis in an essay. The author has to pick and choose how they are going
to emphasize what they are saying so that it does not become overbearing to the reader. One way
that Deborah Pennimpede does this well is through her sentence choices with a powerful use of
periodic sentences, short sentences and interrogative sentences. The author is very deliberate in
where she chooses to place periodic sentences. She knows that an essay that is littered with them
is hard for the reader, and so she only places a few periodic sentences in the entire essay. One of
her strongest periodic sentences is the following: If a pickup truck doesn t try to pass me at the
blind corner at Maple Street and if I avoid the drivers who want to play bumper cars on the Salem
Dodgem Rotary, I stand a chance of making it to school. This is such a strong use of a periodic
sentence because the author is keeping the reader on the edge of their seat until the very end of the
sentence. The placement of the sentence is very tasteful as well, as it is a linking sentence between
two different thoughts in the paragraph. Another strength in the author s writing style is her use of
short sentences. These sentences are short and to the point. They make excellent topic sentences
and concluding sentences because they don t lose the reader. The reader can tell

The Complications Of Kidney Failure
The Complications of Kidney Failure and How Hemodialysis Works to Fix Them

Kidney Dialysis
Kidney failure is deadly disease if not treated immediately.
When functioning normally, the kidneys clean the blood of waste and other fluids, but when they
fail the kidneys can t clean it. This is where kidney dialysis comes in.
Kidney dialysis is the method that is used to clean the blood of waste and other fluids.
Dialysis is often a last resort for people that are undergoing kidney failure.
Possible Complications of Kidney Failure
Anemia and Erythropoietin (EPO)
Erythropoietin is produced by the kidneys and is the hormone that regulates the production of red
blood cells. The kidneys don t make enough erythropoietin, so there are fewer blood cells, which
can lead to anemia.
Renal Osteodystrophy
Since the kidneys can t regulate the proper chemical levels in the blood during kidney failure, the
bones don t get enough calcium and other chemicals to keep them strong.
Hyperkalemia
When the kidneys fail, it runs the risk of high levels of potassium, which can influence many
factors that are dangerous.
Uremic Acidosis
In kidney failure, toxic waste can build up in the blood, which normally the kidneys would absorb
and then filter out if they were functioning normally.
Functions of the Kidneys and an Overview of Hemodialysis
The kidneys are responsible for removing waste and

Tree Ecology In Battle Park
Marianna Jones
Tree ecology on two slopes in Battle Park
Introduction
Forest communities like Battle Park have different environmental factors within their area. On
different slopes, depending on the direction it is facing, the soil and area could be wetter or drier.
This study is looking to see if the north facing and south facing sites have differences in basal area,
density, species richness, and diversity. Also, there may be some similarities in the area since both
are from the same park.
Much of the forest in Battle Park predates European settlement that occurred in the area around
1740 (North Carolina Botanical Garden 2014). Battle Park is a forest of continuity which means
that it is a good representation of an old growth forest (Vandermast, personal communication). It
has some invasive species, but many of the large trees growing there have remained untouched.
The area was never cut down for human use, but some of the fallen logs were used for firewood
(Vandermast, personal communication). Much of the other areas in the piedmont have had
significant changes in the forest cover, changes in species, and mortality. The forest cover is
steadily decreasing at a 7% rate while the mortality of trees ... Show more content on

Species richness is the number of species found. Abundance of each species is used to find the

density, and importance value of the trees. There were differences and similarities in both

Religion Initiation Rituals
I think that initiation rituals are an important part of a religion. From both the primal
perspective and a contemporary perspective, I believe that the initiation rituals were/are
important because they mark the first time a person is formally introduced to the community as
a member. I think initiation rituals are a way for the people to feel like they truly belong to their
respective religious communities. During the primal religious period, there was virtually no
knowledge about the origins of the world and life itself. Therefore, rituals were valued because
they proposed some answers and a sense of unification for the people. For many people/religions
the initiation and rituals were a way of life in the face of an unknown world. They were also a way
for the community members to prove that they were willing, in some cases, to suffer for their
religion.
In today s world, the initiation rituals of religions, like baptism, have much of the same intentions
as that of the early religious people. From my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Through the text we have in infer a lot and there were many clues in the story that helped us
infer that this story was about divorce. We have to infer the conflict and what the character are
like. They must be not getting along at this point in life because she is doing something behind
his back and the mom thinks he has also done things behind her back. The same things go with
the dialog. Although there is not much dialog in the story, when there is, it is really meaningful
and it serves a good purpose in the story and it helps advance the plot. If there was no dialog the
story would not have ended up the way it did. For example, He laughs. Momma, you forgot me

Why You Should Start Shopping For A New Vehicle
With all the new 2008 vehicles rolling onto the car dealership lots, it s hard not to start thinking
about trading in your wheels for a newer model. Before taking the plunge, consider these tips for
getting the best deal. Time is on Your Side There are certain times of the year that are better than
others for snagging a great deal on a new vehicle. It just depends on what your goals are. If your
goal is to trade up to a 2008 model, the best time to do this is in the spring of 2008. Most
dealerships will still have plenty of brand new, never been driven vehiclesout on the lot. If you re
simply looking to trade up, then you should start shopping for a 2007 model now. Any models
from last year that haven t sold will be deeply discounted to make room for next year s model.
Shopping during different months can also yield surprisingly deep discounts. For example,
November is historically the slowest month for vehicles sales, new or used. Since the majority of
Americans are focused on planning for the holidays, sales slow down significantly. Sales people
are more likely to come to their bottom dollar negotiating figure more quickly during November,
thereby making negotiations easier on you. Generally, shopping in the early winter months right
after the holidays is also a good time to snag deals. If that is not enough, the day of the month you
choose to shop can also pay off. The closer to the end of the month you can shop, the better your
deal will be. This is because the

Second Circuit Conjunctive Analysis Essay
Since Frank Lyon, the Circuit Courts have been divided on how to apply the two prong test of the
economic substance doctrine. The inconsistency is reflected in the current and ongoing STARS
transaction cases. Each circuit has chosen a different path pertaining to the test. The Second Circuit
applies a flexible unitary analysis. The Federal Circuit applies a conjunctive analysis but takes a
different approach from the Second Circuit in applying the objective prong of the test. The Eighth
Circuit also applies the conjunctive test and also applies the objective prong differently. Finally, the
First Circuit applies a disjunctive analysis.
Alongside similar facts, the courts faced a common key question in analyzing the objective prong
in the STARS cases: whether the relevant transaction created a reasonable opportunity for profit
exclusive of the tax benefits claimed.
BNY explicitly included the foreign taxes paid by the U.S. bank as part of the costs of the
transaction, despite authority that both U.S. taxes and foreign taxes should be ignored in the
evaluation of pretax profitability. However, BNY and Salem did not include income from the Bx
payment in their analysis of profitability because they had characterized that payment as a tax
effect. Santander took the opposite approach. It concluded that the Bx payment was not a tax rebate
and therefore treated it as income for purposes of the profitability analysis, resulting in a
determination that the satisfied the objective prong

The United States Federal government should not increase gun control regulations. The second

this, it is understood that each citizen has the right to possess firearms and use them under the

At certain points in history, gun sales to civilians have been prohibited by law. In 1976,
Washington D.C. implemented a gun ban that potentially worsened the city s homicide rate.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department, annual homicides rose from 188 in 1976 to
364 in 1988 and continued increasing to 454 in 1993. The gun ban was struck down by the
Supreme Court in District of Columbia v. Heller and since, homicides have steadily declined to
88 annual murders in 2012. This statistic shows that depriving the right to bear arms from law
abiding citizens is ineffective in decreasing the number of homicides as criminals will find a way
to obtain a gun even with a gun ban in place. The law abiding citizens will be left vulnerable as the
criminals will have defenseless victims to attack. The United States has attempted to put gun bans
into place in the past. However, these regulations have been repetitively ineffective. Because of the
ineffectiveness of gun bans and the overall counter result of an increase in homicides, it would be
in best interest, for the safety of Americans, to not implement an increase on Federal gun control

Exaggeration In The Zombie Ant
This paper explores how M.R.Carey exaggerates the evolution and real biological details of the

stretch Carey makes is how the fungus affects its host. Infected ants bite leaves and hang on, but
hungries are driven to chase down unaffected people and animals and feed on them. In another
exaggeration, evolutionhappens much more quickly than in reality. There are second generation
hungries that still have human thoughts but are immuned to the spores the fungus releases in its
final stage. Each of these children has a fungus that is a true symbiote rather than a parasite (
Carey 379). Finally, Melanie, a second generation hungry and main character, decides to speed up
the spread of the fungus with fire. While real O. unilateralis spores spread to cover the rainforest
floor to infect more ants, these spores will cover thousands of miles and change the world forever.

The decline in commodity prices and the significant fall in price of oil reflect a combination of
lower growth in demand and significant increases in supply. Australia s growth is continuing at
a below trend pace, with domestic demand growth generally weak. As a result, the
unemployment rate has gradually moved higher over the past year. Overall, the output growth is

The Importance Of Feudalism In Europe
Real Draft Feudalism in Europe during the middle ages came out of the necessity for both order
and protection from the attacks and raids of the Vikings or Germanic warriors who traveled and
pillaged Europe around the 5th to the 11th century. The Roman Empire s destruction in the 5th
century A.D., along with rulers failing to maintain their authority and rule allowed nobles and
those in power to take more power of the areas that were under them. The people s protections
that were more common under a centralized government, as in the times of the Roman Empire
vanished. As such, the peasants and the lower class found it necessary to negotiate with local
rulers for security from enemy forces. This system included lords and serfs. Now, the nobles
were stark contrasts to the peasants. Nobles exercised greater power economically, politically,
and in other areas. Serfs could include servants, and peasant farmers. A lord could give land to
these people in exchange for protection. This process of giving land as payment or reward was
also known as a fief. In order to recognize the importance of how the feudal system came to be, as
well as analyzing its strengths and weaknesses, we must go back in time to briefly see how the
Roman Empire governed. In the Roman Empire, there were opportunities for aspiring men to
achieve a better life. A main example is seen through their governing system. During this time,
Curus Honorum was in effect. This was designed for Roman senators.

Acidity The Natural Way
Acidity The Natural Way Stomach acids are essential for the digestion of food. Increased
secretion of acids in the stomach gives rise to acidity. Acidity is manifested by several
uncomfortable symptoms such as burning and pain in the chest and stomach; nausea; bitter taste
in mouth; vomiting and discomfort in the stomach. Acidity, been one of the commonest
digestive complaints. At some point in our lives, we have all suffered from these symptoms.
Acidity is generally stimulated by consumption of spicy foods, junk food, carbonated drinks,
fried foods, chocolates, stress or lack of sleep. Obesity, pregnancy and other medical conditions
may also give rise to acidity. Irrespective of the reason, acidity can prove to be an uncomfortable
experience. There are several natural remedies that work wonders in keeping acidity at bay and
also in providing relief from acidity. Though, chronic acidity complaints may require proper
medications. Some of natural remedies are as follows: Bananas They prove to be an effective
antidote for acidity, as it has a high pH value. More the pH value, lesser are the symptoms of
acidity. Banana further, enhances the production of mucous by the stomach lining which reduces
the harmful effects of acidity. The high fibre content of banana decreases the recurrence of acidity.
Apart from banana, watermelon and cucumbers too are effective against acidity. Consumption of
overripe bananas during an attack of acidity is even more beneficial. Cold

abdomen. Then, I would auscultate the abdomen for altered bowel sounds. It is important to
auscultate the abdomen first. Percussion and palpation tends to intensify peristalsis which can
result to false interpretation of bowel sounds (Jarvis, 2012). When I proceed to the patient s
abdominal examination, it is important to know the anatomy of the abdomen where each organ
is located. I would percuss M.M s abdomen and check for abnormal fluid and masses. According
to Jarvis (2012), flank dullness upon percussion may indicate fluid in the abdomen or ascites. I
would do palpation last if not contraindicated. Palpation is used for detection of masses and
tenderness, but because of the pain that palpation may trigger, it should be done in a careful
manner. In M.M s case, I would still... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I would listen for abdominal bowel sounds to listen for air or fluid activity eliminating bowel
obstruction in my assessment. It is common for someone who has a ascites to have a normal
bowel sounds, but diminished bowel sound over the ascitic area (Jarvis, 2012). I would do
percussion to a patient who have ascites and listen for dull sound. I would do a light palpation of
the abdomen if the patient tolerates. It is important that I check his mental status, because the
buildup of toxins in the brain is common to someone who has a history of alcohol abuse. I would
watch the patient for hepatic encephalopathy. Since the liver is unable to remove toxins from the
blood and accumulates in the blood resulting in confusion or decreased mental function. I would
also look for signs of ascites, because liver failure can cause fluid buildup and

Historical Background After the World War II ended, the enormous population of new generation

magazine which connected bill board owners and advertisers. In Pre war and Post war era, the
magazine, Billboard had been conducting introducing brand new entertainment news. It is said that
the first chart of popular music was posted on January 4th, 1936. The way it measured the chart in
that era is said that the magazine s workers counted all the music play frequency from radio, juke
boxes and selling amount of retail stores. On March 1st, 1991, when the internet was gradually
generalized, and the method for listening to music had moved from CD to the internet down
loading, Billboard constructed the new music play data accumulating system which was named as
Nielson Sound Scan. From this point, Billboard started accumulating the music play data on the
Internet, and reflected that on the chart.

competition between multiple companies in every industry. To survive from the battle, companies
must always deal with their clients or customers changeable needs. However, sadly, many
companies fail to analyze the time s customer needs, and the result of that, they die out from the

Rosewood Florida Massacre
RoseWood Florida Massacre of 1923
American History
April 20th 2017
Noah Edmisson
Mr.Laffoon
On January 1, 1923, In a very small black neighborhood called Rosewood. A rumor started that
Fannie Taylor, a white female, had been sexually harassed by a black man in her house. She
claimed that a black man had gotten into her house and assaulted her, but she had no obvious
injuries other than her word that she was unconscious for a long time.
A group of KKK members, believed that this rapist was an escaped inmate named Jesse Hunter
who was hiding in Rosewood, and they wanted to kidnap and kill him. Before this happened many
problems had started aggression within Rosewood. The next day the the clan firebombed the home
before gathered with 200 men from towns around the area who had found out that a negro man
had killed two caucasian men. As the moon came out the clan attacked the town, killing animals
and burning houses and places of business. A completed report claims six negroes were killed
along with two whites men. Other rumors suggest a bigger amount. At the end of the massacre only
two buildings were still up, a house and a store. Many of the African Americanpeople of
Rosewood ditched to the wetlands and were taken to a safe area on January 6 by two trains men.

Essay On Isotopes
Isotopes from Greenhouse Gases and Air Toxics
Introduction
In recent years, the oil and natural gas industry has continued to expand to populated areas, thus
growing a concern for nearby communities regarding volatile organic compounds (VOCs) air
toxics and human exposure.1 Current screening methods to determine exposure of toxic VOCs
such as the family of Benzene, Toluene, Ethylene and Xylene (BTEX) requires a traditional gas
chromatograph (GC), which requires high energy use and its bulky size is not ideal for long term
field deployment and real time measurements. Sensor technology advancements have enabled the
use of low cost devices to measure VOCs, but require additional techniques for chemical speciation
for BTEX identification (i.e. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
VOCs are more complex hydrocarbons than CH4 that are emitted from biogenic and anthropogenic
sources. Biogenic VOCs include alkanes, alkenes, alcohols, aldehydes, etc. Generally,
anthropogenic VOCs are diverse and also include aromatic hydrocarbons, most importantly
benzene, toluene, ethylene and the isomers of xylene as major components (up to 75%).5 To say
the least, there is a wide chemical composition variety of VOCs released to the atmosphere. For my
project centered in the oil and gas industry, I will focus on the aromatic compounds BTEX.
Studying the isotopic ratio of VOCs can provide insight into the photochemical transformation and
physical processing of ambient VOCs.10 Recent isotope studies on VOCs has shown the stable
isotopes of C within the compounds is consistent with the kinetic isotope effect.10 Thus, the
fractionation between the emission and the observation can determine the extent of photochemical
processing, other words the photochemical age.10 The study of isotopes within VOCs has recently
developed with Rudolph, et al., 1997 as a method was introduced to measure VOCs at low mixing
ratios (3 to 5 orders of magnitude smaller than CH4).

The Case Of Mcdonald s
The case study for McDonald s is quite intriguing. It made me realize that I as far as business
success rates I was really out of touch. McDonald s is huge in the restaurant industry, not only in
the states but abroad. However, it is quite interesting that this mogul is not always taken well in
new places. For example, in India the people are not particularly fund of the food and menu.
Originally, the numbers were high until a protest group came out saying that McDonalds was
using beef and pork in the food. The choice of beef and pork was unfavorable due to certain
religions and this caused numbers to drop. Furthermore, it caused the customers to lose trust in the
brand. A loss of custore trust can prove detrimental to a brand. The adverse publicity that was
incurred caused the company s number to drop significantly. In this same breath, the article
disclosed that all new locations were not disappointed with the restaurant items. The company
chose to put a location in China, which was a wise choice, because they now have over twenty
five locations in the country. Not only did China incorporate and embrace the organization, they
are the home of one of the largest McDonald s in the world. I think that McDonalds is using a
smart strategy when it comes to being a major player in the globalization market. The strategic
planning and marketing has proven to be quite lucrative for the company. The company is wise
because they incorporate locate, home grown products in

someone who knows. So what can you do if you are in one? 1. Get out of it. As fast and as soon
as possible, the scary thing about emotionally abusive relationships is they eventually turn into
physically abusive relationships. 2. Cut them off, block them on everything, move out, get rid of
their stuff, and do not contact them. 3. Go to therapy and yes, it may sound weird, but most
abusive relationships leave you feeling worthless and you will eventually go back to that chaos
or find a worse one without mental help. 4. If they begin to threaten you or stalk you, get a hold
of the police and file a restraining order if necessary. 5. Move on, you may have thought you loved
them, but they have brainwashed you into thinking that how they treated you was okay. IT S NOT
OKAY. Find someone who can understand what you ve been through and help you recover. 6.

Time Management Is A Misnomer
Time Management
In many respects the term time management is a misnomer. After all, it implies that in some way
or another we can control time, which is simply impossible to do. Each one of us has exactly the
same amount of time in a given day and none of us get a do over. Some people feel that they are
constantly under pressure, going from pillar to post as they try to accomplish what they need to
do. They feel that they re constantly under stress and never able to catch up and consequently
these people do struggle to achieve what they re trying to achieve and become successful.
However, other people seem to march forward relentlessly with their plans and strangely enough
never appear to be watching the clock at all. We need to find out what their secret is and what their
approach to time management is too.
One of the first things that you need to commit to when learning time management is change. You
are going to have to look at your entire life in a different light and become very sophisticated when
it comes to allocation, delegation and decision making. You re going to find that your interpretation
of time management differs significantly from that of other people. After all, remember that a

What s Got You Weak in the Knees? A Look at the Dangers of Leg Weakness
You may not realize how little conscious thought walking or moving takes until you are in a
position where your lower body mobility is affected by a medical condition. Once this happens it
can make the smallest tasks seem much more difficult. Since movement is at the core of everything
you do throughout your day, difficulty in completing simple tasks can take a toll on both your
physical and mental well being. Lack of maneuverability can have serious consequences leading to
feelings of isolation, depression, and/or anxiety. Recognizing symptoms, addressing them properly,
and implementing the use of aids in your day to day life could help to minimize the effects and
risks associated with lowered mobility.
What is Leg Weakness?
Leg weakness is an absence of muscular or physical strength in your legs accompanied by the
feeling that additional effort is required to produce movement. If this deficiency is the result of
pain, then when you make those lower body muscles work it will hurt.
Often times, when you are displaying a physical weakness which makes moving more difficult to
achieve it can result in fatigue. Fatigue is a feeling of exhaustion or tiredness due to a lack of
strength and/or energy.
Weakness and fatigue are both symptoms, and not considered diseases. They can be caused by
many other health issues, and can only be properly examined when paired with other symptoms
that are present. If you

considered coconut as a significant crop in agriculture and industries (The Coconut Industry, n.d.).
Since supply of coconut is very essential to many countries, it is essential to monitor its production.
The production per land area can be quantified through crop yield.
Crop yield is used to determine the efficiency of food production. Basically, it is the amount of
produced crop per area of land. Moreover, it is sometimes called as agricultural output and

to draw abstract paintings. Ink is more diluted than oil paint because every time use ink painter need
to put water in it, making his abstract paintings looks more concise and have different feeling.
However, as long as painters understand this kind of painting, different painting tools will achieve
different results. According to Zheng(2008:30 32),in the study of painting, students need to know
the history of the development of painting tools, and the basic knowledge of how to use the
painting tools, that will help them to create their own paintings. In conclusion, it is important for
the painter to understand and use the appropriate drawing tools.
The point and line to plane (Kandinsky 1979:6) is the painting element, such as the letters that
make up the word, different combinations will have different effects. As Kandinsky (1979:12) has
demonstrated, that point, line and plane is the basic building material of the artwork itself, and that
in every different art the elements of art are certainly different. However, it is necessary to first
distinguish the basic elements from the other elements, no artwork does not have these artistic
elements. Therefore, the common feature between Wassily Kandinsky s paintings and Guan Zhong

In 1861 Semmes resigned his commission in the U.S. Navy to work for the Confederate

  • 2. Farming and Natural Resource Dynamics under Public-Private... 1.1. Community Based Natural Resource Management (CBNRM): Opening Doors for Market Oriented Approaches Over the past twenty years, CBNRM has been adopted as a panacea for achieving sustainable NRM and rural economic development in East and Southern Africa [13]. CBNRM was born out of the wisdom that most causes of rural resource degradation take place due to centralised governance systems that exclude local communities from accessing resources in protected areas [14]. Thus, Nyirenda et al. [15], note that CBNRM should contribute to improved collective action in NRM. The net benefits of this approach include among others rural poverty alleviation, enhancing conservation, strengthening rural economies, empowering local community management capability in order to lead to long term social, economic and ecological benefits [13]. CBNRM has been implemented using different models notable among which include Zimbabwe s CAMPFIRE [16], and LIFE in Namibia [13]. According to Nelson and Agrawal [14], most scholars and CBNRM practitioners reveal that the approach has not fully achieved its objectives. For instance, in Zambia, CBNRM programmes have been affected by poor governance in the local community institutions [15,17]. In Botswana, Nelson and Agrawal [14], assert the lack of political will to manage wildlife using CBNRM model as one of the challenges. Additionally, some models such as CAMPFIRE have been criticised as meeting only conservation objectives at the expense of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Benefits Of An Limited Liability Company From A Legal... The LLC remains a limited liability company from a legal standpoint, but for tax purposes it can be treated as an S Corp. Be sure to contact the state s income tax agency where you plan to file your election form. Ask about the tax requirements and if they recognize elections of other entities (such as the S Corp). Advantages of an LLC: Limited Liability. Members are protected from personal liability for business decisions or actions of the LLC. This means that if the LLC incurs debt or is sued, members personal assets are usually exempt. This is similar to the liability protections afforded to shareholders of a corporation. Keep in mind that limited liability means limited liability members are not necessarily shielded from wrongful acts, including those of their employees. Less Recordkeeping. An LLC s operational ease is one of its greatest advantages. Compared to an S Corporation, there is less registration paperwork and there are smaller start up costs. Sharing of Profits. There are fewer restrictions on profit sharing within an LLC, as members distribute profits as they see fit. Members might contribute different proportions of capital and sweat equity. Consequently, it s up to the members themselves to decide who has earned what percentage of the profits or losses. Disadvantages of an LLC: Limited Life. In many states, when a member leaves an LLC, the business is dissolved and the members must fulfill all remaining legal and business obligations to close ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Social Conformity And Consumerism In American Culture During 1950s and 1960s, social conformity and consumerism were a big part of our American culture. Definition of social conformity is a type of influence that changes people s behavior and belief in order to fit in to a group, when everyone wants to be just like everyone else. Consumerism is the protection or promotion of the interests of consumers, when we spending much more on item then we need, and is not necessarily. The two primary sources are The Status Seekers by Vance Packard, 1959. And The Twilight Zone, Number Twelve Looks Like You (Season 5, Episode 17, aired on January 24, 1964). The TV show, The Twilight Zone, in a future society. In 1950s, only 10% of the families have a TV, and 38% have never even seen a TV programs. In... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Vance Oakley Packard, an American journalist and writer wrote the book. Packard earned his master degree in journalism in 1937; he worked for numbers of newspapers and magazines. He had an enjoyable middle class life, and later on he moved to a wealthy area in New Canaan, Connecticut. When he lost his job for American Magazine, he was collecting paycheck from social welfare. The American society and culture was big part of Packard s life, because he has wrote more than books about it. The Status Seekers was published in 1959, during the baby boom era and post war era. Baby boomers were people who were born between 1946 1964, when the birth rate and marriage rate was increasing every year, but divorce rate stay low until the mid 1960s. Around the same time was the economic boom, due to New Deal programs. In the late 1940s to early 1960s, U.S. workers produced 57% of planet s steel, 43% of planet s electricity, 62% of its oil, 80% of its automobiles, and possessed 75% of the world s gold supplies. The book griping the problem about how the middle class who want to live a life just like or better than everyone else. Packard concerned for middle class because he was once live as one of them, and he is well know about the middles class life. The way they spend their money, made them feel good about themselves, and most the shoppers were women. They strive to look their most chic and poised, and if the trip is a success they feel pride, pleasure and prestige in patronizing the store and in the satisfaction of looking down on the customers of the lower status store (where women typically don t dress up to shop). (Packard 129). When you dress better, other people will treat you better and vice versa. The other thing is people tended to pretending have money to spend on that fancy stuff, but really they don t have that kind of money to spend. • 5. Gay Justice In Plato s Encouragement For Gay Rights Plato s Encouragement for Gay Rights In Plato s Republic, several competing explanations of justice are offered. First, we hear Thrasymachus s account of justice in Book I, as being the advantage of the stronger. We then receive Glaucon s explanation of justice in Book II: the agreement between men to act just in order to avoid the pain of being on the receiving end of an unjust act. Finally, Socrates provides us with the best definition of justice, saying that justice is the result of three specific classes performing their function within a city in order for the collaboration to conclude in self sufficiency. Socrates s definition of justice outshines those of Thrasymachus and Glaucon because he takes into account that not every person is the same, but everyone is equal. Socrates s refutations of both Thrasymachus and Glaucon help completely shape his argument of what justice is when it comes to Book 4. Socrates made his definition of justice general enough to where it accounted for everyone in the city. As long as everyone performed the duty they were naturally capable of, they were just. I am taking three explanations of justice mentioned in Plato s Republic to talk about the injustice toward the gay community and my personal encounter of the unjust society with being seriously involved with a woman of color. Ever since I was little, I knew I was attracted to the same sex, but I remained too afraid to act on my feelings. I desperately desired to be accepted and considered ... • 6. Shirley Jackson s The Lottery The Lottery By Shirley Jackson: A Delightful Village Conducting Civic Activities The Lottery, is a short story written by Shirley Jackson that uses the most skillful and destructive aspects to consistently tumble readers expectations about what is going to happen next or even at all. On an ordinary day, members of a rural village participate in a yearly drawing in which everyone s name is entered and due to its belief in an ancient superstition in which human sacrifice ensures good crops, the community stones the winner of the lottery. The lottery, taking place in a small village that may seem soothing, and a good place to raise a family is not always what it seems to be. The title along with the first few paragraphs confirm a false sense of hope to the audience. Throughout the short story, the author thoroughly present contrast, even from the names of Mr. Summers and Mr. Graves. Shirley Jacksonchooses occurrences that provide contrast of reader expectations versus the harsh reality and analyzes them carefully.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Without hesitation, the title itself brings to mind the actual definition of a lottery: an instance based on chance. That definition mentions nothing about a chance being good or bad but without any second thoughts, this drives the audience to think about money, prize, or anything resulting in victory. In reality, winning a lottery is a reason for celebration. The readers are expecting some sort of positive victory from the author, but instead, what comes apparent by the end of Jackson s story is that this lottery certainly isn t what you want to win. No one wants to get hit by stones for being chosen for this deadly lottery. By titling her story The Lottery, Jackson keeps the grim meaning of the story under wraps until the last possible second, allowing her message to deliver maximum ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Plot in Their Eyes Were Watching God by Hurston Zora All of this takes place in a rural town of West Florida called Eatonville in the early twentieth century. I was amazed at the story, symbols and images that this novel creates. The symbolism and metaphorical language used also brought interest and an urge to want to read more. In the novel Their eyes were watching God by Hurston Zora, Janie Crawford is a black middle aged woman who has an intriguing story to tell. She has been away from her home town for few years and comes back to be welcomed by harsh and barely near factual gossip and criticism. In life, criticism is inevitable like death, whether it s positive or negative. What I found interesting is how Janie brushes off and takes no offense to the harsh gossip from her neighbors when she returned. The reason for that is because Janie left and found herself, she has lived life, got married a couple of times and know what life is outside of her town. She knew what love was and also knew what it felt like to be happy and hurt. Janie Crawford experienced things that any of the females who gossiped about her hasn t. The story of her life begins to unfold as she sits with Phoebe Watson, her friend for decades that brought her some mullato rice. I think Phoebe shows signs of hypocrisy because although she defended Janie when the other women spoke badly about her, prior to Janie s arrival she accompanied these women daily as they gossiped about other people. Sheep don t stay in the presence of wolves for too long. Well, nobody ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. My Life Goals For College Most of my pre teen years I thought I was not able to go to college. I thought it was too expensive and that only the smart people and people who had enough money could go. Until I got to middle school, I found out about scholarships and how they can really help students of parents with low income go to college. I wanted to learn more and more about programs that help students like me. I wanted to make my parents proud but most importantly, myself. I think college is a gateway to a million possibilities and doing the things you love for the rest of your life. This was the start of my lifelong goals. I was born in Walla Walla Washington, on September 5th of 2000 but was raised in Lakewood Washington. I m the oldest of my three siblings. Both of my parents come from Oaxaca, Mexico. As the oldest sibling, I never had help with school. This kind of affected me with school. My grandparents didn t have enough money to pay for my parents high school education. I was raised to have responsibilities ate the age of 9, when my parents worked a lot because they needed money. I now go to Mount Tahoma high school and will be a graduate of class of 2019 next year. I am hoping that I get enough help to pay for college. I also am the first generation in my family that will attend college, I used to think I wasn t going to be able to know things about college because my parents didn t know anything about it, but then I joined a college program that showed me what college really was. ... • 10. Essay about Importance of the Ocean in Chopin s Awakening Importance of the Ocean in Chopin s Awakening In Kate Chopin s novel, The Awakening, Chopin uses the motif of the ocean to signify the awakening of Edna Pontellier. Chopin compares the life of Edna to the dangers and beauty of a seductive ocean. Edna s fascinations with the unknown wonders of the sea help influence the reader to understand the similarities between Edna s life and her relationship with the ocean. Starting with fear and danger of the water then moving to a huge symbolic victory over it, Chopin uses the ocean as a powerful force in Edna s awakening to the agony and complexity of her life. Danger and beauty serve as Edna s first outlook on the ocean. Early in her development, Edna observes the ocean ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The voice of the sea speaks to the soul. (14) Edna s senses are stimulated by all the sounds of the ocean. Along with the call of the sea, Edna becomes more aware of her own self and desires, which lead her to look within herself. As Edna s relationship with the ocean becomes more intimate, she treats the ocean as if it were her lover and true desire. The touch of the sea is sensuous enfolding the body in its soft, close embrace. The `dreaded fear has now converted to a `sensuous outlook. Edna is hungry to experience all the elements of the ocean and, at the same time, she is opening herself to exploring her inner feelings. With her new familiarity with the sea, Edna constructs a divergent perspective of the water and its potent force in her life. The new awareness gives Edna courage to face her fears. Instead of depending on someone to help her in the water, she decides to start swimming by herself. This act represents a major step in Edna s awakening to independence. One day, Edna becomes possessed with a power that she all of a sudden realizes she has inside her. A feeling of exultation overtook her, as if some power of significant import had been given her soul. She grew daring and reckless, overestimating her strength. • 13. The Effect Of Plyometric Exercises On The Body s Power... Plyometrics or plyos for short refer to the exercises in which muscles exert a maximum force over a short period of time. The goal of these plyometric exercises are to increase one s power and force output. At the physiological level, the plyometric exercises work by combining the eccentric phase, followed by a rapid shortening of muscleor the concentric phase. It specifically induces more motor units to be recruited, the strength of the neural impulses for reflexes to increase, and adjusts the elastic properties of both muscle tissue and connective tissue. This movement from muscle extension to rapid contraction allows for an athlete, weightlifter, or an ordinary Average Joe to incorporate a more explosive mentality to their workouts. In fact, many of the training regiments out there incorporate some sort of plyometric exercise because it successfully improves strength, power, coordination, and athletic performance; which is why it is as curious to researchers as they want to discover how it truly works and what muscles it targets. For a group of researchers from the Stellenbosch University Department of Physiological Sciences in South Africa, it was the main discussion for their research. Doctor Filippo Macaluso, Ashwin W. Myburgh in their research article entitled Preferential Type II Muscle Fiber Damage from Plyometric Exercise , they experimented the effects that plyometric exercises had on muscle fiber types and analyze the ... This novel is indeed quite a political statement : children characters are shown unfit for a harsh environment and the only outcome for them is to die at a young age, like Dick or Nancy. However, Oliver doesn t die and his inherent goodness and innocence seem to remain uncorrupted by the people he encounters and the course of events. Interest in studying pedagogy and how effective pedagogy is transmitted has increased in recent years and there are a multitude of sources that we can explore and analyse in order to answer that question. (M. K. Smith 2012a). Educationis about giving time to discover new concepts whilst being encouraged to do so in a social environment (M, K, Smith 2012b). Education in general is a very practical activity and is concerned with changing old principles as well as teaching new perceptions. Many people have the misconception that pedagogyis only about teaching, it has other forms, a process of living and not a preparation of future living. (John Dewey 1963). The process of education and teaching is carried out by several people during our lives, parents and carers, work colleagues, acquaintances and friends and specialist educators (M. K. Smith 2012c). Second, who was the audience that he was writing to? Third, what was the purpose of John writing the gospel? Did John write the gospel bearing his name? In the gospel of John it never provides the name of the author. There are no other indications in the bible either. There are two important factors that tell us that John is the author. In the Gospel of John it identifies the author as the disciple whom Jesus loved. This likely pointed to John and there are three reasons. First, John was one of the twelve disciples, he was a witness of the actual events (John 21:14). He was part of the inner circle of the disciples because Mary told him first of the resurrection (John 20:1 10). John was distinguished from others in the book. The Gospel of John was discovered around AD 135. However, some scholars think that it was written (AD 70) when Jerusalem was destroyed. This writer believes that AD 85 90 is the more accepted time for the writing of the Gospel of John. Who was the audience that he was writing to? If you re simply looking to trade up, then you should start shopping for a 2007 model now. Any models from last year that haven t sold will be deeply discounted to make room for next year s model. Shopping during different months can also yield surprisingly deep discounts. For example, November is historically the slowest month for vehicles sales, new or used. Since the majority of Americans are focused on planning for the holidays, sales slow down significantly. Sales people are more likely to come to their bottom dollar negotiating figure more quickly during November, thereby making negotiations easier on you. Generally, shopping in the early winter months right after the holidays is also a good time to snag deals. If that is not enough, the day of the month you choose to shop can also pay off. The closer to the end of the month you can shop, the better your deal will be. This is because the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Second Circuit Conjunctive Analysis Essay Since Frank Lyon, the Circuit Courts have been divided on how to apply the two prong test of the economic substance doctrine. The inconsistency is reflected in the current and ongoing STARS transaction cases. Each circuit has chosen a different path pertaining to the test. The Second Circuit applies a flexible unitary analysis. The Federal Circuit applies a conjunctive analysis but takes a different approach from the Second Circuit in applying the objective prong of the test. The Eighth Circuit also applies the conjunctive test and also applies the objective prong differently. Finally, the First Circuit applies a disjunctive analysis. Alongside similar facts, the courts faced a common key question in analyzing the objective prong in the STARS cases: whether the relevant transaction created a reasonable opportunity for profit exclusive of the tax benefits claimed. BNY explicitly included the foreign taxes paid by the U.S. bank as part of the costs of the transaction, despite authority that both U.S. taxes and foreign taxes should be ignored in the evaluation of pretax profitability. However, BNY and Salem did not include income from the Bx payment in their analysis of profitability because they had characterized that payment as a tax effect. Santander took the opposite approach. It concluded that the Bx payment was not a tax rebate and therefore treated it as income for purposes of the profitability analysis, resulting in a determination that the satisfied the objective prong ... At certain points in history, gun sales to civilians have been prohibited by law. In 1976, Washington D.C. implemented a gun ban that potentially worsened the city s homicide rate. According to the Metropolitan Police Department, annual homicides rose from 188 in 1976 to 364 in 1988 and continued increasing to 454 in 1993. The gun ban was struck down by the Supreme Court in District of Columbia v. Heller and since, homicides have steadily declined to 88 annual murders in 2012. This statistic shows that depriving the right to bear arms from law abiding citizens is ineffective in decreasing the number of homicides as criminals will find a way to obtain a gun even with a gun ban in place. The law abiding citizens will be left vulnerable as the criminals will have defenseless victims to attack. The United States has attempted to put gun bans into place in the past. However, these regulations have been repetitively ineffective. The people s protections that were more common under a centralized government, as in the times of the Roman Empire vanished. Now, the nobles were stark contrasts to the peasants. Nobles exercised greater power economically, politically, and in other areas. Serfs could include servants, and peasant farmers. A lord could give land to these people in exchange for protection. This process of giving land as payment or reward was also known as a fief.
