Eucharist Religion
I d first like to start this essay off by stating that I am no theologian. In fact I m not even catholic, or
even someone who practices any religion. Now, I m not going to try and get out of writing this paper
because of this reason. However, I stated this fact to emphasize that my knowledge on this subject is
very slim and stems only from what I have heard in class and from the way that I interpreted it. The
first question asked is: Why are bread and wine the matter of Eucharist? . Well first we must establish
what exactly matter is. Matter, in theology, are the signs that are used in rituals. Baptism is a ritual,
and in order for a ritual to be valid it must have both matter and form. Eucharist is directly related to
Passover because the lamb that had to be sacrificed is equivalent to Jesus being sacrificed (aka his
body) and the blood of the lamb is also like the blood that Jesus shed. Wine and bread are the matter
for baptism because they both represent a part of Jesus s being. The wine represents Jesus s blood and
the bread represents Jesus s body. When the gifts are being offered at Eucharist we are supposed to
offer ourselves to God. Jesus is present with use through other ... Show more content on

Most, of us, I believe, probably think eternal life is something we gain after we die. It will be that new
life as we transition into the full presence (Gumbleton 1). This helps us understand the Eucharist
because it shows just how impactful the Eucharist is on us. Gumbleton goes on to state that Jesus said,
In fact unless you eat my flesh and drink my blood you have no life in you . So, what Jesus and
Gumbleton are saying is that without the Eucharist we will not have eternal life. We would not have
the opportunity to fully connect with Jesus in such a personal way if the Eucharist did not

The Ethics Of The Encyclopedia Of Philosophy
The methodology I find myself basing most of my decisions off of is aretology, also referred to as
virtue ethics. Aretology is defined by Lovin as a system of thinking about ethics that centers on
virtues. Unlike deontology and teleology, which only focus on either rules or goals, aretology
combines both rules and goals making it a good basis for ethical decisions.
The Stanford of Encyclopedia of Philosophy defines virtue ethics as an ethical approach that
emphasizes the virtues, or moral character, in contrast to the approach which emphasizes duties or
rules (deontology) or that which emphasizes the consequences of actions (consequentialism).
Additionally, The Stanford of Encyclopedia of Philosophy gives an example of a virtue ethicist by
saying that a virtuous person will help someone in need because it is charitable and contributes to the
good of society.
The Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy gives a very similar definition that says that areteology is a
broad term for theories that emphasize the role of character and virtue in moral philosophy rather than
either doing one s duty or acting in order to bring about good consequences. The Internet
Encyclopedia of Philosophy also says that aretology was inspired by Aristotle, who said that a
virtuous person would have ideal character traits, which begin as instincts and are then established
after gaining personal experience. Lovin goes on to give Aristotle s definition of a virtue, which is a
pattern of behavior

Dreamgirls
Jennifer Hudson is a woman whom posses the great ability to sing and act. Her break came to her
when she finished 6th in American Idol, but her big break came when she was casted as Effie White
(Jennifer Hudson) in the musical film Dreamgirls (2006). Dreamgirls is a musical film in which three
girls go from singing in talent shows in the ghettos of Detroit to becoming famous stars. This movie
relates the life of The Supremes, a famous female singing group in the 1960 s that feature Diana Ross,
Florence Ballard, and Mary Wilson and other women who came later in the group. In the movie, Effie
White represents Florence Ballard. Jennifer Hudson played the role of Effie really well and was

Her performance of the song on the film was excellent. Galore of emotion was put into the
performance and her voice seemed so strong and beautiful. This performance tells us many things
about Effie. It tells us how strong she is as a woman. This performance shows that she is a strong
woman because she performed the song after she was told she was not apart of the Dreamgirls
anymore. The fact that she was able to sing the song at that magnitude, at that moment, is amazing.
This performance also tells us how strong her love was for Curtis Taylor Jr. (Jamie Foxx). It tells us
how strong her love was for Curtis because she sings the song to him. The song is about her not going
anywhere and telling him to love her like she loves him. Sadly, the song does not affect Curtis and he
moves on. The last thing this performance tells us is that Effie truly has a stronger voice than Deena
Jones (Beyoncé Knowles). Both Effie and Deena have very great voices, but this performance
established that Effie has a stronger voice than Deena. In the film, many people go on to say that
Deena s voice was not as good as Effie s and Deena and her

No Secret That Education Is The Primary Foundation For...
Dear Mayors of towns in New England, ( December 10, 1838 )
It s no secret that education is the primary foundation for genuine success in life. Therefore, it s
imperative for us to ameliorate our nation s education system as much as possible for the future
generations. For the most part, up until this point, most Americans who have pursued an education
have done so through private means. I am by no means saying that free schooling in America today is
non existent, but it s evident that the education provided by these institutions is inadequate due to a
lack of trained professionals. Therefore, we must sedulously work towards fabricating a greatly
needed public education system in our beloved nation. The challenges that America has faced ... Show

And perhaps most vital of all, I have received word of America s first ever teacher training college
opening in Massachusetts during sometime next year. These are all critical accomplishments, but this
is just the beginning.
As far as the goals of this reform movement are concerned, our paramount objective is to provide each
and every student with free and equal education and opportunities. In order for this to happen, it s
imperative for this public education system to be put implemented all over the nation. With regards to
the financing of these common schools, we intend on collecting the necessary funds through taxes.
Again, our hope is that these common schools will help shape Americans into exemplary citizens.
Another vital prospect to take into consideration is that a unified education system would help
assimilate all immigrants, which is fundamental, especially now during a time when immigration has
increased and will continue to increase at an exponential rate. Another notable and somewhat
ambitious goal is to procure the highest literacy rate in the world. These are all things that definitely
won t happen overnight, but we are determined to work diligently towards meeting these goals.
Barriers and obstacles are always a part of the goal achieving process. Our education reform
movement is no different. Religious division is probably the biggest obstacle

Great Hammerhead Shark Migration Essay
Recent studies from the article Hammerhead shark migration gives new hope for conservation

shark s behavior and more research of where these sharks are migrating, and possibly manage the time
of fishing in the areas to eliminate human and shark altercations. With the wide spread of ocean water
it can be difficult to study the traveling of sharks; however, the research group was able to tag the
sharks with both acoustic and satellite tag, and use photo identification and laser photogrammetry
(Charlie Huveneers).

The act of communicating is a universal practice shared and used by all human beings. It is so
universal that it holds true to many different definitions of its meaning. The act could be defined as the
expelling of thoughts into words to transmit information to another person. Communication exists
between two or more individuals to share information, ideas, thoughts or feelings. Within the criminal
justice system communication is a very important process because of the sensitivity of the lives it may

1. Introduction
In the currently highly integrated world some businesses are successful and big enough to become
multinational companies, thus, operate in different countries. Regardless of the country in which the
company operates, its government needs money for increasing the well being of the citizens and
developing the country s economy. One of a government s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Thus global companies become more competitive to other businesses and decrease the profitability of
the market for their rivals, especially for national firms. Even though tax avoidance through charity
seems to be moral, in fact, statistics provided by the Commission the charity represents that The Cup
Trust spend only fifty five thousand pounds directly on charity and mostly these were small start up
children s charities (Weakley, 2013). To add more, not the high rate of taxes itself forces businesses to
resort to tax avoidance but the opportunity to do it legally. According to The Economist (2013), in
recent years the corporate profits as a share of Gross Domestic Product in America were high, but the
tax revenues of the government were one of the lowest in history. This paradox could be explained by
the fact that there was a significant decrease in tax rates of Organisation for Economic Co operation
and Development (OECD) countries for more than seven percent for the last decade and they became
considerably lower than in the United States of America (ibid). The reasons why tax avoidance
theoretically may be justified were stated above. However, it was shown that in practice even if
multinational firms pay to charity, which is obviously highly moral, they do it to reduce bills, which
makes such operations morally wrong.

of choices for meals. It is difficult to name a national dish. Furthermore, the Mediterranean diet is a
similar concept. Including south European countries, the diet consists of many different cultures as
well. Most people believe that the American diet refers to something similar to a meal at McDonald s.
That s not always true. Although most foods included in the American diet contain an excess amount
of calories, sugars, unnatural fats and saturated fats, oils, sodium, and high fructose corn syrup, there
are also foods that don t. These include:

Freud s Psychoanalytic Theory Of Identity
According to Freud the id is unconscious by definition:
It is the dark, inaccessible part of our personality, what little we know of it we have learned from our
study of the dream and of course the construction of neurotic symptoms, and most of that is of a
negative character and can be described only as a contrast to the ego. We approach the id with
analogies: we call it a chaos, a cauldron full of seething excitations. ...It is filled with energy reaching
it from the instincts, but it has no organization, produces no collective will, but only a striving to bring
about the satisfaction of the instinctual needs subject to the observance of the pleasure principle.(1) In

Kant And Kant s Universal Law Essay
Does Kant successfully establish that one must never under any circumstances or for any purpose tell
a lie?
In this essay, I will argue that Immanuel Kant fails to successfully establish lying as morally
impermissible because the claim that lying is morally impermissible goes against common sense.
Kant defines his Universal Law to demonstrate the necessary action one must take in order to act in a
way that is morally permissible and uses it in support of his belief that one s motive is the sole
determinant of the moral worth of his actions. He uses the Universal Law Theorem to determine
whether it should be morally permissible to lie in any occasion, and consistently reaches the
conclusion that is it not (Kant Paton, 2005). However, let us consider an example situation: An elderly
woman is awoken during the night to pounding on the door from a handful of children claiming to
have just escaped the captivity of a pedophile in the neighbourhood. She immediately takes the
children into her home, promising to keep them safe for the night. Before she has the chance to
contact the authorities and their parents, she hears the sounds of a man raging outside, screaming
about lost children. The woman answers the door calmly, claiming to have just been awoken and
scolds the younger man for being so rowdy, sternly telling him she has not seen any children and
encouraging him to return home before she contacts the authorities.

Labor Unions in the Late 1800 s Essay
Labor Unions in the Late 1800 s
Labor unions in the late 1800 s set out to improve the lives of frequently abused workers. Volatile
issues like the eight hour workday, ridiculously low pay and unfair company town practices were
often the fuses that lit explosive conflicts between unions and monopolistic industrialists. Some of the
most violent and important conflicts of the time were the Haymarket Affair and the Pullman strike.
Each set out to with similar goals and both ended with horrifying consequences. The movement for
the eight hour workday was one of the most violent struggles for laborers. Their struggle is defined by
protests that were broken up by the police and the Pinkertons. The Pinkertons were a mercenary police

Many homes, meeting halls, and offices where outspoken supporters of the eight hour movement lived
and worked were raided without warrant. Oscar Neebe, Adolph Fisher, August Spies, Louis Lingg,
Michael Schwab, Samuel Fielden, Carl Engel, and Albert Parsons were charged with the trumped up
charge of accessory to murder for the riot. They were all brought to trial, even though many of the
men were not even at Haymarket Square at the time of the melee.
With a jury of twelve men found all of the defendants guilty. After an appeal to the Supreme Court,
Spies, Parsons, Fischer and Engel were sentenced to hang. Neebe, Fielden and Schwab were given life
sentences. Louis Lingg most likely would have served a life sentence as well, however, he committed
suicide.

The Great Gatsby Conflicted Man
The Great Gatsby is the seminal work of F. Scott Fitzgerald; it was published in 1925, squarely in the
roaring 20 s scene that inspired the events of the novel. Fitzgerald died just fifteen years later in 1940
at the age of 44 thinking that he was a failure ( F. Scott Fitzgerald ). The Great Gatsby is set in the
Jazz Age of America, where cultural advances in music, fashion, and social etiquette, combined with
the prohibition of alcohol, culminated in a raucous, extravagant, high spending lifestyle. No one
epitomizes this more than the mysterious Jay Gatsby, whose parties are the talk of New York City.
However, as we discover, this is merely a facade: the real Jay Gatsby is a lovelorn, conflicted man. His
love for Daisy is what drives him, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To the public, he s an elusive, party loving socialite, but as we discover through Nick s eyes, Gatsby is
actually a charming yet reserved man. Ever since he was a dirt poor kid in North Dakota, Gatsby felt
he was destined for something more. He is a self driven man, and while his desire for wealth and
power is innate, it is not the only thing that motivates him. His love for Daisy and desire to win her
back cause him to buy a luxurious mansion on West Egg directly across the bay from Daisy and Tom s
mansion where he throws extravagant parties in the hopes of luring Daisy to one of them. Gatsby s
actual personality runs opposite to how he is perceived by the public, and this dichotomy is important
to the themes of the novel. Nick, the narrator, usually has disdain for wealthy people, holds respect for
Gatsby. As Nick says in his last words to Gatsby, They re a rotten crowd, I shouted across the lawn.
You re worth the whole damn bunch put together. (Fitzgerald 160). We see Gatsby s nature when he
takes the blame for Daisy when she kills Myrtle. Even though she has abandoned him, he maintains

problems, a case study analysis is the most effective method to identify and recommend ways to
improve this process for recruiting new trainees for ABC, Inc. Carl s mishaps were caused by a lack of
organization, planning, and scheduling, and there is a good chance the training will not be able to
happen as currently scheduled. Furthermore, ABC Inc., made the incorrect assessment by appointing
Carl Robins to the job of enlisting new hires. Carl had this position for only six months and was put on

The Judicial Selection And Appointment For Securing An...
Discuss the importance of the judicial selection and appointment in securing an independent judiciary.
(50 marks) Judicial independence is the concept that the judiciary needs to be kept away from the
other branches of government. That is, courts should not be subject to improper influence from the
other branches of government. Judicial independence is very important in a democracy as the public
need to have confidence that their cases will be decided fairly and in accordance with the law. Judicial
selection and appointment is important in securing an independent judiciary as seen by the
politicisation of the judiciary. In the UK and US the system of electing Justices is highly politicised. In
the US it is ultimately up to the President to choose a Justice who fits his political ideology and
philosophy. There is a clear divide between Justices nominated by Republican Presidents (Scalia,
Thomas, Roberts, and Alito) and those nominated by Democrats President (Ginsburg, Breyer,
Sotomayor, and Kagan). Presidents seek to nominate Justices who share similar political views.
Republicans tend to nominate strict constructionists who favour a more narrow reading of the
Constitution and Democrats tend to appoint loose constructionists who believe in a broad
interpretation of the Constitution. Elena Kagen received only a single Republican vote and Sonia
Sotomayor did not receive any. It is unlikely that the Republicans considered them to be
underqualified, and more likely that they

Swatch and the Global Watch Industry
1. How did Timex succeed the Swiss as world volume leader in the 1950s and 1960s?
Timex toppled the world dominance of the Swiss by streamlining the watch making process therefore
also making the process very scaleable. The Swiss had dominated in an era where very little
competition existed. This paved the way for the Swiss and their high cost watch producers to remain
dominant as consumers really had no alternative to turn to.
Timex introduced watches using a combination of automation, precision tooling, and simpler design
then their Swiss rivals. The Timex movements also incorporated new hard alloy bearings rather than
expensive jewels used by the Swiss. All this lead to efficient and effective automation of Timex

Swatch slashed the number of individual parts that a watch required from 91 to 51 and began housing
them in an easily mass produced plastic case. With this formula, the Swiss made a breakthrough into
the global watch industry by producing high quality, inexpensive watch in Switzerland.
Marketing was also a key area which had to be looked at for Swatch to fully resuscitate the overall
Swiss watch industry. To do this for them, Swatch decided that to do it right, marketing should be
outsourced to specialists. Franz Sprecher, an independent consultant, helped to transition the image of
the Swiss watch from a very expensive, traditional timekeeping instrument to an inexpensive lifestyle
symbol and fashion accessory. Swatch followed this lead and also did a good job in producing very
trendy watches with very colorful designs. There was a Swatch created for every occasion. This new
approach in marketing and manufacturing sealed the deal for Swatch and was an instant hit propelling
the Swiss watch industry to the forefront of the watch manufacturing industry.
With the success of Swatch and their new alternative approach to marketing and design, media quickly
became very interested. Swatch realized that this was a perfect way to embrace free public publicity.

Maytag Strategic Analysis
I. Executive Summary
Maytag Corporation was founded in 1893 by Fred L Maytag and two other men. The company built
its first washing machine in 1907. From there the company quickly expanded into a national
corporation. With the sweeping globalization movement of the 1990 s, Maytag has attempted to
establish a presence as a global competitor in the appliance industry.
As the company has tried to establish itself in the developing global marketplace, it has had
difficulties. Not only were consumers taste and preferences changing in the domestic market, but the
company needed to develop products that would appeal to the new global markets. Maytag will need a
great deal of money to make these large changes.
The current strategy that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Technological forces also made a very large change in the mid 90s. With Microsoft s launch of the
first user friendly Windows program, home computer usage began to increase. Also Al Gore helped
the world wide web launch during this time frame. With access to the internet, companies were also
able to use electronic data interchange (EDI) to help make purchase orders, schedule delivers and
other functions that are available when companies share data. Maytag also at this time is using fuzzy
logic in appliances. More technology will continue to be required in appliances as time moves on.
Porter s five forces are used to determine the competitive intensity and attractiveness of a market.
These are close forces that affect a company s ability to make a profit and serve customers. If any of
these forces change, a company must reassess its marketplace. The five forces include: the threat of
substitute products, the threat of the entry of new competitors, the intensity of competitive rivalry, the
bargaining power of customers and the bargaining power of suppliers.
Porter s five forces can be used to analyze Maytag. First, the threat of substitute products is low. The
only substitute for a washing machine is a large sink and a great deal of manual labor. Many of the
appliances have substitutes, but because those substitutes are so old and outdated there is not a threat
from them.
Second, the threat of entry of

would say so many different things to me, but I never let it bother me. The most common thing they
would say would be like, Kate, quit talking and go move to a different seat.
Usually, I would respond back with, Okay in an annoyed tone, because all I wanted to do was talk. I
would still find a way to talk to someone else, but after a while, I would hear my teacher say my name
again.
Kate this is your last chance to quit talking or else you re going to the office or I m going to be calling
your mom, they would say.
Okay, I would quietly respond back.
Throughout the years as I go little older I started caring about the little things people would say about
me. Like one of the little things that would bother me was when some of my friends or even some
classmate would point out how I have an accent, or how I would do things differently than them. I
became very subconscious about my speaking every single time I would talk because I felt like
everyone would be paying close attention to it. I didn t realize that as a kid that having an accent
would be that noticeable to others. Suddenly my life took a turn when I entered 5th grade. It started
out great. I had a few friends that I could communicate and hang out with, but as weeks gone by I
started to become like a closed door. I rarely said a word to any of my friends. The most I would have
talked was probably a sentence or two

Terrorism And Domestic Terrorism
The idea of terrorism is to incite terror of a government by intimidation or coercion. For example, the
Weathermen, they used bombs to blow up symbols of the United States to instill terror into the
government, to get Americans out of Vietnam War. However, the jihadist of al Qaeda crashed two
planes into the World Trade Center to provoke fear into the US by showing weakness in our private
transportation system and changing the lives of Americans. Nevertheless, the terror act of 9/11 has
people preparing for more international terrorist attacks, but in the last 16 years the only terrorist
attacks in the US have been domestic terrorism. This fear of international terrorism was a hot topic
during the 2016 Presidential Election, where one party wanted to ban a religious group of people from
entering the US. Yet, domestic terror attacks are by far more many than international ones: in our data
set, only about 14% of the almost 82,000 terror incidents were international terror events (Liebert,
Kokakos, Schulze, 2011, p. 1). This shows that citizens do not know the different between
international terrorism and domestic terrorism, because if they did, there would more focus on
domestic terrorism even though terrorism is so rare compared to other crimes (Newman Clark, 2008).
I am going to discuss the difference between international terrorism and domestic terrorism.
International terrorism has a specific definition as described in 18 as code 2331. For instance, in the

Internet plays a huge paper in the news and communication field, due to the fast, free easy and
accessible way for everybody to look for the last news.
Because of the increase in the use of the Internet, this information media has become one of the most
used information channels over the world. Like everything it has some pros and cons:
On the one hand, if we are in the point of view of the newspaper, we save more because we do not use
any kind of paper neither ink, nor machinery so our costs are minimum. Another good fact, that has
online newspapers, is that you can read the breaking news at the moments that are posted, without
waiting until the next day.
But for people the most important one is that the newspapers are usually free in the
Internet that is why there are more online readers day by day.
Whereas, on the other hand, even though there are not so many bad things we find two of them that
are the most important. The first one is that as online newspapers are free for the readers the company
that manages the newspaper does not win as much as it should before, so the need more publicity. The
other one is that as we said before most of them are free but there are also some those if you want to
read the newspaper you have to subscribe to it.

Napoleon s Position As The Leader Of France
The French Revolution marked a significant shift in the status of not only France but also Europe and
the world as an entirety. In a period of uproar and uncertainty, the people of France saw themselves
without a specific leader to alter the status of the country. By taking full control of almost every aspect
of the country, Napoleon Bonaparte s position as the leader of France saw significant changes in the
army, economic and social positions of the once powerful nation. In his rapid rise to power in the 19th
century, he influenced the world momentously. On August 15, 1769, Napoleon Bonaparte was born in

His second wife was the daughter of the emperor of Austria, Marie Louise. She gave birth to their son
who became known as Napoleon II and was given the title King of Rome. Besides his son, Napoleon
produced several illegitimate children. Once Napoleon started fighting for France, he saw immediate
success. France had been involved in several military conflicts with different European nations, so in
1796, Napoleon and his French army went out and defeated Austria s army. Austria was one of France
s main adversaries at the time, so the victory was a huge triumph for Napoleon and France. The Treaty
of Campo Formio was soon signed by the French and the Austrians, granting a large amount of land to
France and presenting their supremacy to the rest of Europe. The governing power of France at the
time was made of 5 people and called the Directory. The Directory offered Napoleon a mission to
attack England, but Napoleon decided France s army were not equipped to go up against the Royal
Navy. He decided to invade Egypt instead, in order to demolish British trading routes with India.
Napoleon destroyed the Mamluks at the Battle of the Pyramids, but then his naval fleet was
demolished at the Battle of the Nile. His troops were stranded with no fleet and soon after this,
Napoleon deserted his army in Egypt and went back to France. In November 1799, there was an event

Analysis Of Thomas F. Mathews The Mistake Of The Emperor...
The paper serves as a critical analysis of Thomas F. Mathews The Mistake of the Emperor Mystique
chapter in his book The Clash of Gods: A Reinterpretation of Early Christian Art. The scope of the
analysis extends only to the chapter, the works included in the chapter and some supplemental sources
by other art historians. It examines Mathews central argument and auxiliary claims, paying attention
to his use of sources. Additionally it probes the validity of his assertions, drawing comparisons to
other works or historians.

The book The Clash of Gods: A Reinterpretation of Early Christian Art reevaluates fundamental
pieces of Late Antiquity art, facing off with what author Thomas F. Mathews dubs the Emperor
Mystique, an inclination to link images of Christ in this period to imperial iconography. In the first
chapter, author Thomas Mathews makes a lofty claim: Late Antiquity art blanketed under the Emperor
Mystique must be reassessed since art historians have tawdrily abused the theory to oversimplify Jesus
iconographic identity. The author structures his chapter one argument into three points. First, he
criticizes the idea of an unbroken art narrative consisting of a gradual flow from pagan art to Christian
art, resulting in the Emperor Mystique mix of imagery as a key transition point. Then, he considers the
Emperor Mystique s prevalence in Late Antiquity. Finally, he moves on to the art historians chiefly
responsible for the theory Ernst Kantorowicz, Andreas

What Did William Wilberforce Accomplish In Life
What did William Wilberforce accomplish in life? Why do we remember William Wilberforce? Why
was the Bible so important to him? William Wilberforce was a philanthropist, politician, legislator,

Britain, and as a child he went to the traditional Anglican church. By the age of 16, he went to
Cambridge University, where he met his good friend William Pitt the Younger who became a loyal

of aloofness and skepticism toward anyone who took Christian faith seriously. During his college

Abstract
In 1997, the Asian Financial Crisis spread rapidly all over the Asia and affected almost all the
economies in the world. Prior to the Asian Financial Crisis, the Asian countries such as Thailand,
Malaysia, South Korea, Indonesia, Hong Kong and Singapore experienced a remarkable growth in the
economy that was considered the highest in the world. These Asian economies increased by a notable
proportion of 6 to 10 percent annually in the GDP. However, what had been regarded as an Asian

Regardless of the negotiations for support grant from the IMF and the United States Treasury, the
monetary drainage persisted and Brazil was forced to devalue its currency. As a result, the Brazilian
government authorized the real to float, while it abandoned linking its currency to the U.S. dollar. The
financial crisis in Brazil spread out rapidly to other nations in Latin America and as a result several
billions of dollars were drained from these countries and this hindered the trade exchange with the
United States. As a result, the nations in the Latin America experienced one of the nastiest economic
recession that was mainly fuelled by the Asian financial crisis. The effect of the financial disaster was
predominantly severe in the Latin America s small economies, for instance Bolivia, Uruguay, Ecuador,
Chile and, Argentina and Colombia (Hunter, 1999).
Petti (2001) argues that financial shocks can move rapidly throughout the nations within similar
regions as it was revealed by the Mexican peso disaster that occurred in the year 1994. Similarly, the
financial crisis that affected the Asian countries proved to be a regional financial crisis and it
threatened geographically distant vibrant economies mostly in the Latin America. The Latin America
countries began experiencing the effects of the Asian financial crisis in 1997

Us Vs Silver Coins Essay
Holding U.S. vs. non U.S. silver coins Few experts recommend converting all of your wealth into gold
and silver because of their price volatility and future uncertainty. For example, during the Great
Depression, Franklin Roosevelt signed a law that required everyone to sell their gold to the Federal
Reserve and made private ownership of gold illegal until Gerald Ford once again made it legal in
1975. Silver was unaffected. The prospect of a repeat seems highly unlikely today but not impossible.
Even the mere possibility that the federal government might try to do so again has prompted 14 states
to initiate actions that would make a similar move virtually impossible. While U.S. states cannot
create their own currency, they are allowed under Article 10 of the Constitution to formally recognize
and declare use of gold and silver coin as legal tender. As of this writing, the ... Show more content on

Essay on ANS Nervous System
The Structure amp; function of the
Autonomic Nervous System
Introduction:
The organs of our body are controlled by many systems in order to function correctly and efficiently
in order to survive within the environment we live in. These include the heart, stomach and intestines
and other vital organs and body systems. All of the systems in our body are regulated by a part of the
nervous system called the autonomic nervous system (ANS). The ANS is part of the peripheral
nervous system and it controls many organs and muscles within the body. Rather bizarrely we are
unable to determine or feel its presence in our bodies as it is working involuntary, as a reflexive
manner. A common example of this involuntary action is best understood when ... Show more content

Take notice of figure.1 in the illustrated diagram that the sympathetic nervous system originates in the
spinal cord. Specifically, the cell bodies of the first neuron are located in the thoracic and lumbar
spinal cord. Axons from these neurons project to a chain of ganglia located near the spinal cord. In
most cases, this neuron makes a synapse with another postganglionic neuron in the ganglion. A few
preganglionic neurons go to other ganglia outside of the sympathetic chain and synapse there. The
postganglionic neuron then projects to the quot;target quot; either a muscle or a gland.
Two more facts about the sympathetic nervous system are the synapse in the sympathetic ganglion,
uses acetylcholine as a neurotransmitter. The synapse of the postganglionic neuron with the target
organ uses the neurotransmitter called norepinephrine. There is one exception to this, the sympathetic
postganglionic neuron that terminates on the sweat glands uses acetylcholine.
The Parasympathetic nervous system is an antagonist to the sympathetic nervous system. Its primary
function is to give you the ability to rest and relax, in times when you are tired or stressed. The
parasympathetic nervous system works to save energy and allow your blood pressure to also decrease.
Your heartbeat reduces becoming much slower, and digestion can start. Notice again in figure

Importance Of Self Assessment
The Importance of Self Assessment Self assessment is an important aspect of teaching, as it allows the
teacher to reflect upon the successfulness of the content of the lesson and the communication, along
with the delivery of instruction and if each student s learning was successful. Looking at each of these
individually, there are specific components that a teacher should look reflect on and assess. When
broken down, there is a better chance of determining where changes to a lesson, or to teaching, might
be needed to make it more successful for learning. The first area of teaching to assess is the subject
matter, which is one of the most important aspects to reflect on, as this has to be developmentally
appropriate much more. Reflecting on the specific subject content of a lesson is important for many
reasons. Some of the most important things to consider are if it is developmentally appropriate, that
the objectives are sound and measurable, and that it is related to the student s experiences or
knowledge. Determining if a lesson is developmentally appropriate is important as if it is not it can
either leave students bored, too below standards, or confused, too above standards. This also leads to
ensuring that objectives are sound and measurable, as measuring objectives will help to indicate if the
lesson was successful and if students learned the content or skill, which indicates the appropriateness
of it. The last important aspect to touch on is relating learning to the

Materialism In Wlf And Eadwacer
The poem Wulf and Eadwacer displays a number of typical characteristics associated with the genre of

from Paul Muldoon s translation, Wulf and Eadwacer is in every sense an Old English Elegy. I will

Fiscal Control Boards And Its Effects On The Cities Under...
RESEARCH DESIGN
Model and hypothesis Fiscal control boards have different impacts on the cities under which they
function. My hypothesis is that the level of structural considerations such as citizen participation,
socioeconomic factors, and the legal framework taken into account in the board s policy making
procedures affect its level of effectiveness. These features of control boards are then used to analyze
Puerto Rico s case in terms of strengths and weaknesses in its potential success in addressing
structural problems in Puerto Rico s economy. In terms of comparing the cases, I will take three
variables: citizen input, consideration of legal structure, and socioeconomic factors when comparing
the policies that were passed and their outcomes. The data used will be provided by different official
documents and scholars analyzing cases of emergency financial measures and fiscal control boards
mentioned in the literature review. To test this relationship, I will perform a comparative case study of
Puerto Rico s fiscal control board with that of Washington D.C, and Detroit focusing on these aspects.
These examples allow me to investigate the factors involved in the policies introduced by the boards
under such different contexts. By choosing these cases, I am also able to control for factors that other
analysts consider imperative, such as the level of citizen input, socioeconomic conditions, and legal
structure. Regarding the level of citizen input, I will be examining the

Essay On Biographies Of Hegemony And The Naked Citadel
In both essays Biographies of Hegemony by Karen Ho and The Naked Citadel by Susan Faludi, there
are two higher institutions, which would be Wall Street and the Citadel. Both of their goals is to
remold an individual to fit their criteria. Each individual has a certain identity and presents themselves
in a specific way. People are known to change due to influences in their everyday lives, which
eventually changes their identities into someone completely different. In these two essays, it becomes
evident that because of the pressures put upon people by these hierarchies, people unconsciously
change and are shaped into new individuals while hiding their true identities. Any person can be
completely stripped of their old identities by falling ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the Naked Citadel, the boy s identity is essentially being performed. They are distinguished as
superior non feminine men, while behind the scenes they are typically performing feminine acts.
Violently harassing the young knobs, showering together, and making their beds together was where
they could show their true selves. Faludi mentions how the result is ruthless intimacy, in which
physical abuse stands in for physical affection, and every display of affection must be counterbalanced
by a display of sadism (Faludi, 100). The boys become so infatuated with showing their feminine side
that when they snap back to reality they realize it is a sign of weakness and use anger to feel relief.
The Cadets act like they are on a stage playing a role in a play much like the Treehouse where men
dress up as Drag Queens. Both identities are being performed, which means while playing a role you
are still truly yourself. This is also seen in Biographies of Hegemony, while Princeton and Harvard
students are getting recruited, they put on this elite, smart act of attraction to be a part of this high
institution of Wall Street. It is claimed that the most distinguishing features of investment banking are
their smartness and exclusivity (Ho, 166). This shows how by putting themselves in a different

Analysis Of Fun Home By Alison Bechdel
Alison Bechdel, a literary and queer theorist herself who would go on to coin the Bechdel test, grew
up in close proximity to theory. In a family of academics, with her teacher father and former actress
mother, Bechdel was always surrounded by literature, so when it comes to self discovery of her
sexuality, it s no surprise that she turns to the literary realm, from Rubyfruit Jungle to the Oxford
English Dictionary, to understand herself. Bechdel s first graphic memoir, Fun Home, examines her
upbringing in a funeral home with her cold mother and her closeted bisexual father, who commits
suicide soon after Bechdel leaves for college. It engages in frequent literary and theory illusions,
beginning from the mention of Icarian Games on the very first page. While Bechdel s work seems like
it could be easily situated in structuralist theory, the work easily lends itself to a multiplicity of
meanings, an inherent feature of deconstruction work that allows readers to veer into feminist theory,
queer theory, or even Marxist theory. Just as Bechdel rewrites and reframes the events of her formative
years multiple times throughout the novel, the novel particularly lends itself to structuralist,
deconstruction, queer, and feminist theory, which all lead to particularly illuminating readings that
compliment each other. Fun Home perhaps most glaringly fits into the literary theory of structuralism,
and its application becomes easy as soon Bechdel introduces the readers to her father s constant
rebuilding of their home on page 5. One of structuralism s main tenants is understanding the world as
discursively constructed, meaning that there is no inherent essence or nature that informs one s
production, whether that be behavior or presentation or style, and that one then understands the world
through binary opposition and discourse (Parker 77 81). Bechdel s father produces a perfected period
piece facade for the Bechdel home, which simultaneously indulged his obsessive love for home decor,
an interest usually only allowed for homosexual men, while providing the facade of an idealized
happy homeplace. Analyzing the home s surface structure would prove unfruitful for conveying any of
the internalized conflict of the family, and

There are a lot of things similar and different in Fahrenheit 451 and The 5th Wave. One of the things
similar is that the people do not know what was happening in other places of the world. They are only
concerned about their own lives. One thing that is different is that The 5th Wave is taking place in a
post apocalypse world while Fahrenheit 451 is taking place in a world in the future where technology
is very advanced. Another thing that is similar is that the government did not tell the people what was
going on. Something that is different about this is that the people in Fahrenheit 451 did not care that
the government was not telling them anything. In the 5th Wave, the people actually cared. Another
thing that is different is the enemy. In The 5th Wave, the enemy is the aliens or the Others. In
Fahrenheit 451, the enemy is the government because they view humans as a weapon. In Fahrenheit
451, it says One drop of rain. Clarisse. Another drop. Mildred. A third. The uncle. A fourth. The fire
tonight. One, Clarisse. Two, Mildred. Three, uncle. Four, fire. One, Mildred, two, Clarisse. One, two,
three, four, five, Clarisse, Mildred, uncle, fire, sleeping tablets, men, disposable tissues, coattails,
blow, wad, flush, Clarisse, Mildred, uncle, fire, tablets, tissues, blow, wad, flush. One, two, three, one,
two, three! Rain. The storm. The uncle laughing. Thunder falling downstairs. The whole world
pouring down. The fire gushing up in the volcano. All rushing down around the

Globalization Is An Increasingly Present Phenomenon, Which
Globalization is an increasingly present phenomenon, which influences almost everyone s life to a
certain extent. Our world is more connected than ever, and not just from an economic point of view,
but from social, political, technological, and cultural as well. Globalization can be defined, analysed,
tackled many ways, but this essay seeks to briefly define globalization, introduce the convergence
diversity debate, and examine the different types of organizational strategic perspectives in China.
The notions of globality can be traced back to the early part of humanity, but the term globalization
itself was not coined until the 20th century. From a social standpoint, it can be defined as:
A social process in which the constraints of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From a managerial point of view, there are many implications of convergence. For example, the staff
of multinational firms are often expected to move around the organization s global operations.
Furthermore, Belief in the transferability of techniques has led management to turn elsewhere for
solutions to problems such as organization structures, new market entry, product and process design,
controlling labour and cost reduction. (Needle, pp.147)
On the other side of the debate, divergence scholars instead assert that national culture, not economic
ideology, or technological growth, is (and will continue to be) the dominant force in shaping the
values, beliefs, and attitudes...within a country . (Gupta, V.; Wang, J pp. 69)
The divergence supporters argue that differences in cultural values can be seen as natural barriers to
convergence, and they can only be altered slowly. They insist, that instead of converging on one
model, national states and companies aim to be different, so they can be more compatible on the
global market. Divergence scholars are convinced that management practices cannot simply be
integrated, as cultural differences particularly between Western and Eastern countries are too great.
There is a hybrid model which combines the best features of convergent and divergent ideology, called
cross vergence. It represents a middle way in the values symbolized by the Western and Eastern world.

The Humanities And Social Sciences Position At Dalyellup...
I wish to apply for the Humanities and Social Sciences position at Dalyellup College. I was
particularly inspired to apply for this position because of your schools focus on collaboration and
partnerships. As I strongly believe that it is through teamwork and collaboration that teachers continue
to grow and develop. That every teacher has their own style, areas of strengths and weakness so it is
only through working together that we can strive to become outstanding teachers who have the
necessary skills to assist all our students reach their potential. This is why finding a role within a
school that has a focus on collaboration was a priority for me when seeking a position for 2017, so
that I can share and learn from other teachers in order to keep developing as a teacher. As is it only
through being dynamic and innovative that we can continue to engage with our students in our ever
changing world and help them achieve success.
At present I am teaching Year 7 and 8 English/Humanities as well as Year 8, 9 Health at Jurien Bay
District High School. In my current role I am the Year 7 form teacher and as a result of this I have
been primarily responsible for helping the cohort transition from a primary school to a high school

Unconditional Positive Regard
In a therapist role I know how important unconditional positive regard is. So, if it is possible for
therapists to experience unconditional positive regard towards clients, what would be the best way to
express this to a client? Is it in what you say? Would it be appropriate to say, I accept you completely
and totally as the person you are ? Or I value you as a whole person no matter what you ve done. This
would be the direct approach but could this lead to problems because expressing too much positive
regard could be overwhelming to clients? Is it in your persona, your body language, and your
expressions to show your openness? Clients may react by wanting to break down therapy boundaries.
If they are hearing such positive, loving statements

Analysis Of On Noise Essay
On Noise, is a stoic piece composed by Seneca who was raised in Rome during the first century AD.
On Noise explores an aspect of humanity that is surprisingly appropriate for our current times, how it
is part of human nature to become distracted. Seneca explores the fascinating idea of how it is human
nature to be distracted and that we must busy ourselves with tasks or succumb to the danger of being
overcome by the distractions or the noise that surrounds us, he does through the extended metaphor of
the obvious distractions of sound and by using the scenario of busy street in everyday life, for the sake
of this essay we will take the definition of human nature to be The general psychological
characteristics, feelings and behavioural traits of human kind, regarded as shared by all humans . We
as a reader must take into account that this is a translation of a Latin text and that in Latin the order
that the words are written is extremely important, even so that writers such as Ovid or Pliny could
spend days on single sentences trying to perfectly compose it, Latin prose is an art form in itself, but
we can grasp the simple techniques that are just as applicable in English as they are in Latin, and
henceforth from them the examination of human psyche that Seneca has gone through in this text. We
are led through a journey that was typical to texts of this stoic form and intent, he first involves us into
the text using the reader as an example as he submerges us into the

  • 2. Eucharist Religion I d first like to start this essay off by stating that I am no theologian. In fact I m not even catholic, or even someone who practices any religion. Now, I m not going to try and get out of writing this paper because of this reason. However, I stated this fact to emphasize that my knowledge on this subject is very slim and stems only from what I have heard in class and from the way that I interpreted it. The first question asked is: Why are bread and wine the matter of Eucharist? . Well first we must establish what exactly matter is. Matter, in theology, are the signs that are used in rituals. Baptism is a ritual, and in order for a ritual to be valid it must have both matter and form. Eucharist is directly related to Passover because the lamb that had to be sacrificed is equivalent to Jesus being sacrificed (aka his body) and the blood of the lamb is also like the blood that Jesus shed. Wine and bread are the matter for baptism because they both represent a part of Jesus s being. The wine represents Jesus s blood and the bread represents Jesus s body. When the gifts are being offered at Eucharist we are supposed to offer ourselves to God. Jesus is present with use through other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This helps us understand the Eucharist because it shows just how impactful the Eucharist is on us. Gumbleton goes on to state that Jesus said, In fact unless you eat my flesh and drink my blood you have no life in you . So, what Jesus and Gumbleton are saying is that without the Eucharist we will not have eternal life. We would not have the opportunity to fully connect with Jesus in such a personal way if the Eucharist did not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Ethics Of The Encyclopedia Of Philosophy The methodology I find myself basing most of my decisions off of is aretology, also referred to as virtue ethics. Aretology is defined by Lovin as a system of thinking about ethics that centers on virtues. Unlike deontology and teleology, which only focus on either rules or goals, aretology combines both rules and goals making it a good basis for ethical decisions. The Stanford of Encyclopedia of Philosophy defines virtue ethics as an ethical approach that emphasizes the virtues, or moral character, in contrast to the approach which emphasizes duties or rules (deontology) or that which emphasizes the consequences of actions (consequentialism). Additionally, The Stanford of Encyclopedia of Philosophy gives an example of a virtue ethicist by saying that a virtuous person will help someone in need because it is charitable and contributes to the good of society. The Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy gives a very similar definition that says that areteology is a broad term for theories that emphasize the role of character and virtue in moral philosophy rather than either doing one s duty or acting in order to bring about good consequences. The Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy also says that aretology was inspired by Aristotle, who said that a virtuous person would have ideal character traits, which begin as instincts and are then established after gaining personal experience. Lovin goes on to give Aristotle s definition of a virtue, which is a pattern of behavior ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The fact that she was able to sing the song at that magnitude, at that moment, is amazing. This performance also tells us how strong her love was for Curtis Taylor Jr. (Jamie Foxx). It tells us how strong her love was for Curtis because she sings the song to him. The song is about her not going anywhere and telling him to love her like she loves him. Sadly, the song does not affect Curtis and he moves on. The last thing this performance tells us is that Effie truly has a stronger voice than Deena Jones (Beyoncé Knowles). Dear Mayors of towns in New England, ( December 10, 1838 ) It s no secret that education is the primary foundation for genuine success in life. Therefore, it s imperative for us to ameliorate our nation s education system as much as possible for the future generations. For the most part, up until this point, most Americans who have pursued an education have done so through private means. I am by no means saying that free schooling in America today is non existent, but it s evident that the education provided by these institutions is inadequate due to a lack of trained professionals. Therefore, we must sedulously work towards fabricating a greatly needed public education system in our beloved nation. The challenges that America has faced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And perhaps most vital of all, I have received word of America s first ever teacher training college opening in Massachusetts during sometime next year. These are all critical accomplishments, but this is just the beginning. As far as the goals of this reform movement are concerned, our paramount objective is to provide each and every student with free and equal education and opportunities. In order for this to happen, it s imperative for this public education system to be put implemented all over the nation. With regards to the financing of these common schools, we intend on collecting the necessary funds through taxes. Again, our hope is that these common schools will help shape Americans into exemplary citizens. Another vital prospect to take into consideration is that a unified education system would help assimilate all immigrants, which is fundamental, especially now during a time when immigration has increased and will continue to increase at an exponential rate. Another notable and somewhat ambitious goal is to procure the highest literacy rate in the world. These are all things that definitely won t happen overnight, but we are determined to work diligently towards meeting these goals. Barriers and obstacles are always a part of the goal achieving process. Our education reform movement is no different. Religious division is probably the biggest obstacle ... Even though tax avoidance through charity seems to be moral, in fact, statistics provided by the Commission the charity represents that The Cup Trust spend only fifty five thousand pounds directly on charity and mostly these were small start up children s charities (Weakley, 2013). To add more, not the high rate of taxes itself forces businesses to resort to tax avoidance but the opportunity to do it legally. According to The Economist (2013), in recent years the corporate profits as a share of Gross Domestic Product in America were high, but the tax revenues of the government were one of the lowest in history. This paradox could be explained by the fact that there was a significant decrease in tax rates of Organisation for Economic Co operation and Development (OECD) countries for more than seven percent for the last decade and they became considerably lower than in the United States of America (ibid). The reasons why tax avoidance theoretically may be justified were stated above. • 11. Kant And Kant s Universal Law Essay Does Kant successfully establish that one must never under any circumstances or for any purpose tell a lie? In this essay, I will argue that Immanuel Kant fails to successfully establish lying as morally impermissible because the claim that lying is morally impermissible goes against common sense. Kant defines his Universal Law to demonstrate the necessary action one must take in order to act in a way that is morally permissible and uses it in support of his belief that one s motive is the sole determinant of the moral worth of his actions. He uses the Universal Law Theorem to determine whether it should be morally permissible to lie in any occasion, and consistently reaches the conclusion that is it not (Kant Paton, 2005). However, let us consider an example situation: An elderly woman is awoken during the night to pounding on the door from a handful of children claiming to have just escaped the captivity of a pedophile in the neighbourhood. She immediately takes the children into her home, promising to keep them safe for the night. Before she has the chance to contact the authorities and their parents, she hears the sounds of a man raging outside, screaming about lost children. (50 marks) Judicial independence is the concept that the judiciary needs to be kept away from the other branches of government. That is, courts should not be subject to improper influence from the other branches of government. Judicial independence is very important in a democracy as the public need to have confidence that their cases will be decided fairly and in accordance with the law. Judicial selection and appointment is important in securing an independent judiciary as seen by the politicisation of the judiciary. In the UK and US the system of electing Justices is highly politicised. In the US it is ultimately up to the President to choose a Justice who fits his political ideology and philosophy. There is a clear divide between Justices nominated by Republican Presidents (Scalia, Thomas, Roberts, and Alito) and those nominated by Democrats President (Ginsburg, Breyer, Sotomayor, and Kagan). Presidents seek to nominate Justices who share similar political views. Republicans tend to nominate strict constructionists who favour a more narrow reading of the Constitution and Democrats tend to appoint loose constructionists who believe in a broad interpretation of the Constitution. • 24. Terrorism And Domestic Terrorism The idea of terrorism is to incite terror of a government by intimidation or coercion. For example, the Weathermen, they used bombs to blow up symbols of the United States to instill terror into the government, to get Americans out of Vietnam War. However, the jihadist of al Qaeda crashed two planes into the World Trade Center to provoke fear into the US by showing weakness in our private transportation system and changing the lives of Americans. Nevertheless, the terror act of 9/11 has people preparing for more international terrorist attacks, but in the last 16 years the only terrorist attacks in the US have been domestic terrorism. This fear of international terrorism was a hot topic during the 2016 Presidential Election, where one party wanted to ban a religious group of people from entering the US. Yet, domestic terror attacks are by far more many than international ones: in our data set, only about 14% of the almost 82,000 terror incidents were international terror events (Liebert, Kokakos, Schulze, 2011, p. 1). This shows that citizens do not know the different between international terrorism and domestic terrorism, because if they did, there would more focus on domestic terrorism even though terrorism is so rare compared to other crimes (Newman Clark, 2008). I am going to discuss the difference between international terrorism and domestic terrorism. International terrorism has a specific definition as described in 18 as code 2331. Another good fact, that has online newspapers, is that you can read the breaking news at the moments that are posted, without waiting until the next day. Mathews The Mistake of the Emperor Mystique chapter in his book The Clash of Gods: A Reinterpretation of Early Christian Art. The scope of the analysis extends only to the chapter, the works included in the chapter and some supplemental sources by other art historians. It examines Mathews central argument and auxiliary claims, paying attention to his use of sources. Additionally it probes the validity of his assertions, drawing comparisons to other works or historians. ~~~~ The book The Clash of Gods: A Reinterpretation of Early Christian Art reevaluates fundamental pieces of Late Antiquity art, facing off with what author Thomas F. Mathews dubs the Emperor Mystique, an inclination to link images of Christ in this period to imperial iconography. In the first chapter, author Thomas Mathews makes a lofty claim: Late Antiquity art blanketed under the Emperor Mystique must be reassessed since art historians have tawdrily abused the theory to oversimplify Jesus iconographic identity. The author structures his chapter one argument into three points. First, he criticizes the idea of an unbroken art narrative consisting of a gradual flow from pagan art to Christian art, resulting in the Emperor Mystique mix of imagery as a key transition point. Then, he considers the Emperor Mystique s prevalence in Late Antiquity. Finally, he moves on to the art historians chiefly responsible for the theory Ernst Kantorowicz, Andreas ... All of the systems in our body are regulated by a part of the nervous system called the autonomic nervous system (ANS). Take notice of figure.1 in the illustrated diagram that the sympathetic nervous system originates in the spinal cord. Specifically, the cell bodies of the first neuron are located in the thoracic and lumbar spinal cord. Axons from these neurons project to a chain of ganglia located near the spinal cord. In most cases, this neuron makes a synapse with another postganglionic neuron in the ganglion. A few preganglionic neurons go to other ganglia outside of the sympathetic chain and synapse there. The postganglionic neuron then projects to the quot;target quot; either a muscle or a gland. Two more facts about the sympathetic nervous system are the synapse in the sympathetic ganglion, uses acetylcholine as a neurotransmitter. The synapse of the postganglionic neuron with the target organ uses the neurotransmitter called norepinephrine. There is one exception to this, the sympathetic postganglionic neuron that terminates on the sweat glands uses acetylcholine. These features of control boards are then used to analyze Puerto Rico s case in terms of strengths and weaknesses in its potential success in addressing structural problems in Puerto Rico s economy. • 41. Analysis Of Fun Home By Alison Bechdel Alison Bechdel, a literary and queer theorist herself who would go on to coin the Bechdel test, grew up in close proximity to theory. In a family of academics, with her teacher father and former actress mother, Bechdel was always surrounded by literature, so when it comes to self discovery of her sexuality, it s no surprise that she turns to the literary realm, from Rubyfruit Jungle to the Oxford English Dictionary, to understand herself. Bechdel s first graphic memoir, Fun Home, examines her upbringing in a funeral home with her cold mother and her closeted bisexual father, who commits suicide soon after Bechdel leaves for college. It engages in frequent literary and theory illusions, beginning from the mention of Icarian Games on the very first page. While Bechdel s work seems like it could be easily situated in structuralist theory, the work easily lends itself to a multiplicity of meanings, an inherent feature of deconstruction work that allows readers to veer into feminist theory, queer theory, or even Marxist theory. Just as Bechdel rewrites and reframes the events of her formative years multiple times throughout the novel, the novel particularly lends itself to structuralist, deconstruction, queer, and feminist theory, which all lead to particularly illuminating readings that compliment each other. Fun Home perhaps most glaringly fits into the literary theory of structuralism, and its application becomes easy as soon Bechdel introduces the readers to her father s constant rebuilding of their home on page 5. One of structuralism s main tenants is understanding the world as discursively constructed, meaning that there is no inherent essence or nature that informs one s production, whether that be behavior or presentation or style, and that one then understands the world through binary opposition and discourse (Parker 77 81). Bechdel s father produces a perfected period piece facade for the Bechdel home, which simultaneously indulged his obsessive love for home decor, an interest usually only allowed for homosexual men, while providing the facade of an idealized happy homeplace. Analyzing the home s surface structure would prove unfruitful for conveying any of the internalized conflict of the family, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
