Mla Citation Essay
Writing an essay on the topic of "MLA Citation" can be a challenging task, requiring a thorough
understanding of the Modern Language Association (MLA) citation style. MLA is a widely used
formatting and citation style in academic writing, and crafting an essay on this subject
necessitates a comprehensive grasp of its guidelines.
One of the difficulties lies in the meticulous attention to detail required by the MLA style. From
formatting the header and title to correctly citing sources in-text and creating a works cited
page, each step demands precision. The rules for citing various types of sources, such as books,
articles, websites, and more, add an additional layer of complexity. Any deviation from these
guidelines may result in a loss of marks, making it imperative for the writer to be well-versed in
the intricacies of MLA citation.
Furthermore, staying updated with the latest revisions and updates to the MLA style guide is
crucial. The guidelines may evolve over time, and a writer must be aware of any changes to
ensure the essay adheres to the most current standards.
Navigating the intricacies of parenthetical citations, citing electronic sources, and understanding
how to format a works cited page can be overwhelming for someone unfamiliar with MLA
citation conventions. Additionally, mastering the art of balancing the essay's content with proper
citations without compromising the flow of the narrative adds another layer of difficulty.
In conclusion, crafting an essay on the topic of "MLA Citation" demands not only writing
proficiency but also a meticulous understanding of the specific guidelines outlined by the
Modern Language Association. It requires attention to detail, adherence to evolving standards,
and a thorough grasp of various source types. However, for those who find the task challenging,

Jack Ma Leadership Analysis
INTRODUCTION
The objective of this paper is to apply the knowledge learned in class by studying the
leadership characteristics and styles of a leader and what contributed to his/her
successes and failures.
In my case I have chosen Jack Ma, founder and executive chairman of Alibaba Group
. He has become one of the most influential businessmen and is a global example of
leadership. However, his road to success was not easy. He had to overcome failure in
several occasions and work hard to build his own company and become an influential
and powerful global leader.
The first thing that will be covered in this paper is his biography. This will help to
understand what kind of person he is, how he was able to arrive to a position of
power and give an idea of his traits and behaviors. Next, an in depth leadership
analysis will follow. This analysis will be based on the theories seen in class.
BIOGRAPHY
Jack Ma was born in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China. He started studying
English at an early age and practiced English every day talking with English
speakers at the Hangzhou International Hotel, 70 minutes by bicycle from home. He
made free tours of the city to improve his English for nine years. He became a pen
pal with one of those foreigners, who nicknamed him Jack because he found it
difficult to pronounce his Chinese name.
Later in his youth, Ma had trouble attending college. The Chinese entrance exams
take place only once a year and Ma took four years to pass
Micro Analysis of
Micro analysis:
Film: Blade Year: 1998 Director: Stephen Norrington
In this micro analysis I will be analysing the film Blade which was produced in 1998
and directed by Stephen Norrington. The micro elements I am going to focus on are
Mise en scene and cinematography. I will be analysing everything in the scene
including props, costumes, facial expressions, gestures, setting, codes framing to
determine how it creates meaning. In cinematography I will focus on the camera
shots and angles and how these are used to create meaning. Both of these micro
elements will be combined to show how they work together in creating meaning for
the audience in the scene that I am studying.
I am studying scene 1 which is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This connotes that he is angry and frustrated or he is just ready to pounce on the
vampire.
As soon as the fight scene begins Blade pulls out a shotgun. The shot gun is black
and long in length. While the fight is commencing there is a feeling of claustrophobia
that the setting creates and entrapment. This feeling is created through the shots used
as he is fighting the vampires and the composition. Blade is position in the middle of
most of the shots and vampires are surrounding him from either side fighting him.
This gives a feeling of isolation and claustrophobia towards the audience.
While the fight scene is going on the audience will notice that all the vampires are
in red and Blade has high key lighting on him most of the time throughout the
scene. This indicates danger around him and evil and also he is isolated. This
shows the audience that Blade is going to be the hero because the light that is
shining on him indicates hope to the audience but then again indicates coldness at
the same time. As the scene goes on there is a mid shot of Blade having lots of
stakes around his leg and plunging it into a vampire s heart. The mise en scene
makes us think that it is a good vs. evil theme and that Blade is on a mission to kill
all the vampires because strapped to his leg is a bundle of stakes, its like Blade was
ready and waiting for the vampires to attack.
Blade is then enclosed with vampires circling him. The shot used here is a long shot

I Was Very Excited To Begin My Internship At Paul
Hastings,
I was very excited to begin my internship at Paul Hastings, as it was my first real
experience in corporate America. I ve had multiple internships before, but I never
felt like I was pushed into a better professional. Upon beginning this internship, I was
looking forward to a challenge and that is absolutely what I got.
Within my first month at Paul Hastings I had completed more work than I did at my
last internship which lasted six months. At Paul Hastings, all though my title was
intern, I was a member of the business development team. I learned quickly the work
I was doing mattered and that it needed to be done well. The expectation there is
extremely high, which is something I should ve known going into a competitive
internship at one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I have not increased my attention to detail not only in my internship, but all aspects of
my life and am grateful for the stern, honest and constructive advice from my
supervisor, that allowed me to significantly improve a weakness of mine.
During my internship, I had the opportunity to work on a variety of projects. Most
of my time was spent using excel and PowerPoint which provided another
opportunity for me to strengthen my weaknesses. On excel I would conduct a lot of
secondary research that pertained to the clients of the firm. For example, Barclays,
who is a huge client in Paul Hastings financial services market, has over 700 people
in relation to Paul Hastings. I went through an excel list of 700 contacts and
verified through Google and LinkedIn searches whether they were still with the
company or not. Most of my projects on excel were like this. Also on excel I
managed the budget for the firm and kept track of how much was spent on each
client, and what clients had paid the firm for its services. I tended to do well on
budgeting projects and any projects involving excel and numbers. Once I realized
the type of projects I was doing poorly on I was able to identify why and began
making the necessary changes to improve my performance. Any task given to me that
involved me having to think and analyze I did very well on. The more mundane and
mind numbing projects, were the ones where I would miss multiple little things,
which created a poor
Swot Analysis Of The Cheesecake Factory
Many people may have heard of The Cheesecake Factory, however most people have
never had the chance to dine at one nor aware of such an establishment. This shows
that there is room to grow and certain target markets The Cheesecake Factory can aim
for. Unfortunately, The Cheesecake Factory has many competitors because it
competes in the casual dining space within the restaurant industry. There are many
competitors in this industry that have been in business longer than The Cheesecake
Factory and also have a larger customer base than The Cheesecake Factory. Some
competitors for The Cheesecake Factory are Applebee s, Longhorn Steakhouse,
Olive Garden, and Red Lobster just to name a few. However, the real competitors for

Currently, The Cheesecake Factory s competitors only offer western style meals and
desserts and majority of South Asian restaurants is operated on a small scale mainly
by family businesses. This alternative has numerous pros with limited amount of
cons. The first pro is that this strategy would increase revenue and customer base
immensely. Second, it would greatly differentiate The Cheesecake Factory from its
competitors. Also, there not many businesses are not penetrating the market for
South Asian meals. The Cheesecake Factory could implement this alternative with
ease because they have the required infrastructure to implement and only a small
investment is required for this strategy. Another pro for this alternative would reduce
the dependence from western meals and it would allow The Cheesecake Factory to
build a new brand image. The last pro for his alternative is that international dishes
have a very high profit margin because consumers are willing to pay premium
Motivation Not Hype Research Paper
Motivation Not Hype
By Matthew Meinck
Jan 17, 2012
Motivation is not hype. Due to superficial knowledge and insufficient ability, many
so called motivators or motivational speakers design and offer formats that merely
hype up participants but offer nothing that is sustainable. How often have you felt
inspired by the presence of a charismatic speaker and left the room determined to
change your life only to return to earth with a bump the first time you failed to
appease a disgruntled customer, meet a sales target or communicate effectively with
your staff or friends?
What I have to offer is the result of three decades of deep and sustained study of our
human nature, resulting in a thorough understanding of human psychology with
regard to motivation or the lack there of.
What is required to achieve sustainable motivation in people?
Hype is merely a superficial attempt to enhance a depleted sense of motivation. The
correct approach is to address the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They do not touch upon the actual cause of these symptoms. It is the uprooting of the
cause of conflict and stagnation that will bring an end to the symptoms apparent in
our external interactions.
Put simply, problems arise when what is going on inside a person is at odds with
what is presented or expected, externally. Until the two are the same or similar, no
matter how many times you improve on the surface, what lies inside the individual
remains at odds with the outer action and will continue to undermine all
The Importance Of Social Changes In Contemporary
Culture
Many problems in our society come from the time of the early years of our country
when the European arrived in our country in order to settle here. Through these
decades we can find an evolution, and adaptation from people in our cultural
traditions, morals, beliefs, economy, and educations. These changes drive to a new
generation where many people from different ethnicities, such as European,
African American, Asians, Hispanics, Latin s and Chicanos had these different
feeling, where social changes, help us to find our new identities, in our social
behavior. These variations of Social changes in our life s leads to the fact on how
people are affected by the social structure, where government issues, economy,
education and social issues affect our contemporary culture. In this semester I read
some interesting readings and plays, which help me understand clearly how we
are affected by situations that reveal and manipulate our social behaviors, which
also can lead to a positive and negative effect. The readings and plays that I m
going to talk about are the Actos Plays by Luis Valdez , Chicano Drama by Jorge
Huerta, The play by Carlos Morton The Many Deaths of Danny Rosales and The
Social Protest Theater by Harry J. Elam Jr. On the reading Actos Plays by Valdez, it
really shows how Chicano theater is created by the purpose of giving a realistic
feeling such as deep, tragic, happiness, and anger, which it can be a tool for the
viewers that help them identify the
Dr. Erik Herzog s Talk Summary
I attended the What wakes us up: Networked Circadian Clocks in The Brain talk
by Dr. Erik Herzog from Washington University. The talk was extremely
interesting and helped me better understand the circadian system s in human s
behavior. The first fact that I think is extremely interesting is how our daily
rhythm is driven by a small part of the brain called suprachiasmatic nucleus. Our
brains are well designed and perfectly localized that each part of the brain
responsible for only specific function. However, since everything in the brain is
connected, the shift in one part can greatly affect the others. I have also learned that
neuroscience research is a broad field that involved interdisciplinarity from multiple
fields. To study how the circadian system in our body work, researchers from Dr.
Herzog s Laboratory has been using both in vitro, in vivo and behavior observing
techniques. At the beginning of the talk, it is interesting to see how the behavior of
the mouse changed when researcher removed the... Show more content on

Researchers used luciferase on fireflies to study this mechanism. The result showed
some significant results about how this clock gene affect behaviors. With enough
enzyme, researchers can repress the DNA at the clock gene and completely change
the behavior of any animal. The gene also provided some explanations for how light
exposure can change human s behaviors. From the talk, Dr. Herzog mentioned that
the VIP (vasoactive intestinal polypeptide) cells in the suprachiasmatic nucleus can
respond to light. Therefore, when the light shifts our daily behavior, it means that the
VIP cells must be activated somehow in the SCN. The activation of VIP results in a
chain of reactions inside the suprachiasmatic nucleus and cause a shift in circadian
How Has Art Changed Throughout The Modern Time
Modernity represented a time period of human belief in rationality that lasted from
. A time period where everything was quantifiable and litteral. Artwork strived to
be as visually realistic as possible and it s quality was based on such. It also
included the idea that socially and politically, humans were advancing, and that they
would act rationally to benefit themselves and act in line with whatever class they
were in. And also that psychologically human beings are rational, and as such are
potentially able to understand everything in the universe, including themselves, and
eventually acquire infinite knowledge. Firstly artwork, during the modern period it
s primary goal was to achieve the most real picture as possible. As the camera hadn
t been invented yet and it was still the best method of capturing scenes. For example,
Mr and Mrs Andrews painted in 1750 that portrayed a wealthy couple overlooking
their land. The the quality of the paintings of this time were measured down to how
accurate the picture was and how obvious the artist s brush strokes weren t. These
scenes were usually focused on things that most people considered to be rational.
Especially the church.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After this the focus of art shifted to depiction of an emotion or experience. An
example of this would be impressionism, which differed in 2 main ways. First it
focused on lower social classes, IE middle or low income, and their daily activities.
Secondly, the entire style of art had changed. These paintings were much more
expressive with a wider range of color and lighting, and often included subject matter
that was shocking to whoever viewed it. For example L Absynthe a painting
depicting a woman drinking a very potent alcoholic beverage in a
Questions On Business Ethics And Ethics
Introduction to Business Ethics
What Is Ethics?
To understand business ethics one must first understand that there is no general
definition used to define this ethics related topic. Ethics related topics usually include
terms such as morals, principles, ethics and values, which are, in most cases, used
interchangeably. However, Asgary and Mitschow (2002) defines ethicsas the study of
appropriate policies and practices regarding possible controversial issues while
offering recommendations for what is right and what is wrong.
Ethics can be defined in two different ways. Firstly, ethics can refer to substantiated
principles of right and wrong that suggest what persons ought to do, typically in
terms of rights, specific virtues, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, it is incumbent upon individuals to constantly examine their own
standards to ensure that they are rational and apt.
Ethics also means, then, that there is a continuous effort of studying as it relates to
our own moral beliefs and our moral conduct, and that in striving to ensure that we,
live up to principles that are sound.
The standards of ethical and moral behavior come from the understanding that we are
unique beings. These standards are the innate means of justifying the decisions and
actions that are believed to be right, fair, proper, wrong, unfair and improper. We are
all unique individuals who depend on others for much of our human experience,
particularly our social communications with others. When the guidelines for moral
behavior are determined by our societal structure, then some of the social and ethical
dilemmas will be handled differently and will be better equipped and mindful in our
understanding of how to deal with those that behave immorally or unethically
especially in a business environment.
Business Ethics Discussed
In today s business world, law often governs business ethics while in some instances
business ethics provide a basic foundation that businesses should follow in order to
gain public acceptance. Business ethics and business morality as a whole generally
result from a person s own moral principles in the context of the political and cultural
environment in which the organization is
Equipment Safety Essay
Introduction
Contractors are responsible for the safety of their employees and the people near or
at the work place. Part of their job is to ensure that equipment, materials, and the
work environment is safe as well as make sure that the guidelines are being
followed. In a construction site, it is important to be cautious around heavy
equipment and power tools. When operating equipment while working at a
construction site, protecting your body is very necessary. Creating a good work
environment is also very important. This means all of the construction workers work
together and looks out for one another to make sure the job is done right. These
topics will be further explained.

Gloves should fit snugly.
Head Protection
Hard hats are used where there is a potential for objects falling from above and
getting a bump to the head from objects, or of accidental head contact with
electrical hazards. Hard hats are replaced after a heavy blow or electrical shock and
should be maintained in good condition. Long hair should be tied back so that it
doesn t make contact with power tools and jewellery should be removed (just like in

Crane Safety
Cranes are mainly used for lifting heavy things and transporting them to other
places. Cranes are restricted from operating within 10 feet of any electrical power
line to ovoid collision. Many crane fatalities occur when the boom of a crane or its
load line contact an overhead power line. Load capacities, operating speed and
instructions are posted and are visible to the operator of the crane for reference.
Crane machinery and also other rigging equipment are inspected daily before using
it to make sure that it is in good condition. Guardrails, hand holds and steps are
provided for safe and easy access to and from all areas of the crane. Only properly
trained and qualified operators are allowed to work with hoisting and rigging
equipment.
Forklifts
Forklifts have two prongs at the front that can be slid under heavy loads and then
raised up for moving and stacking materials. Forklift truck operators are capable of
operating these
The Hero Archetypes In Homer s The Odyssey
Homer s The Odyssey shows many archetypes throughout this tale of adventure.
There is bravery, death, leadership monsters, and slaughter all circling around the
archetypes in the epic. The Odyssey was set down in writing around 8th century
B.C. The story is told by Homer. Odysseus is his main character The archetype
Odysseusplays is the hero. Other archetypes in The Odysseyare the monster and the
father figure. Modern readers gain insight about Ancient Greek culture from the use
of archetypes in Homer s epic, The Odyssey.
The hero archetype is very important in this story. It is the main one and Odysseus
represents it. The hero always tries to defend the greater good at all costs. An
example when Odysseus was a hero, was when he saved his men from the the
Cyclops. Odysseus s plan was to escape and to also hurt the cyclops. After
completing his plan, Odysseus said, Cyclops, if ever mortal man inquire how you
were put to shame and blinded, tell him Odysseus, raider of cities, took your eye (p.
574). Another characteristic of the hero archetype is leadership. Odysseus showed
leadership when he had to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the monsters are Polyphemus. He is a cyclops that wants to eat Odysseus
and his men. He is a monster who would function in the same horrifying capacity in
a modern horror film. Even Polyphemus said, We Cyclops care not a whistle for
your thundering Zeus or all gods in bliss; we have more force by far (p. 567).
Polyphemus doesn t care, since he s a monster, and eats some of the men. Another
monster in The Odyssey is Scylla. She s destructive because, She made her strike,
whisking six of my best men from the ship (p. 585). Charybdis also fits into the
monster archetypes. She was a giant whirlpool and When she vomited, all the sea
was like a cauldron seething over intense fire, when the mixture suddenly heaves and
rises (p. 584). A less intense archetype is the Father
Going After Folik Case Study
Going after Frolik MONTREAL, QC The NHL free agent frenzy is hours away
and the Montreal Canadiens front office has been very quiet as it usually is ever
since Marc Bergevin took over the reins. His main philosophy has been building
from the inside through the draft and the Habs prospect pool is getting very solid.
Although the organization isn t too fond of signing free agents, there are a few
urgent gaps in the lineup that needs to be filled up. Mainly, with the buyout of P A
Parenteau, the second line right wing spot is up for grabs. Currently with the team,
the right wingers are Brendan Gallagher, Dale Weise and Devante Smith Pelly.
There is obviously space for improvement and a forward must be added before the
start of the season, in my opinion.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If we look from within, Sven Andrighetto would be the best top 6 option the Habs
have in their system. With that said, I don t think that Andrighetto is ready for that
big of a jump just yet. So that leaves two options : trading block or free agency.
There is one particular right wing on the free agent market that I personally would
target: Michael Frolik. A former first round pick, 10th overall, Frolik has played
his last two seasons with the Winnipeg Jets, putting up 42 points in each one of
them. The Kladno native is listed at 6 foot 1, 200lb and is known for a sound two
way game. He has put up 40 points or more in 4 of the 7 seasons he has spent in the
NHL, with the Florida Panthers, the Chicago Blackhawks and the Winnipeg Jets.
Last season with the Jets, Frolik has averaged 1:35 minute per game on the penalty
kill and has scored three goals in those situations. I would picture him on a second
line role with his fellow Czech teammate Tomas Plekanec. He definitely fits the style
that the Canadiens are trying to play. He even expressed interest in joining the Habs
as reported by TVA Sports Renaud Lavoie
Ancient Egyptian Afterlife Essay
The Ancient Egyptian Afterlife Introduction If one were a poor ancient Egyptian,
for one s funeral one would be thrown out into a dessert pit where you stay and
preserve forever. The Egyptians are the one s that built the pyramids to celebrate
the afterlife. The afterlife could or couldn t be the last stage of life judging by your
good or bad deeds and then the God s would decide the fate for the afterlife. The
ancient Egyptiansalso took their afterlife very seriously.
Religious Ceremony The ancient Egyptians believe in the afterlife because they know
that it is important to their religion. Rob Attar says, The death celebrations were
important for the Egyptians because it was important for the God s . The ancient
Egyptians think that the rituals were important or they would be punished by the
God s. Living relatives were expected to the tomb occasionally and bring food and
recite prayers, The Ancient Egyptian Afterlife states. That was important to their
religion because if they didn t treat it right the religious afterlife wouldn t be nice to
them, or their family s. The ancient Egyptians celebrated their afterlife with pride and
determination.

The ancient Egyptian afterlife declares, If the heart was lighter than the feather of
justice, they could pass on, but if it was heavier they would be eaten by the demon.
. The feather supposedly looked at the good or bad deeds and weighed them to see
if you deserve good or bad. 14 judges then make an accounting for the deeds during
the lifetime. The ankh, key of life appears in the hands of some. Crystalinks

For the most part the heart is better than brain because the Egyptians believe all the

Should The Age Lowering The Drinking Age Essay
Should drinking age be lowered? In 1933, the 21st Amendment expressed the
legislative rights of states that states could set their own alcohol consumption laws.
As a result, the minimum drinking age became various among different states. While
most of the states have a drinking age of 21 years old, illinois(1933 1961) and
Oklahoma (1933 1976) setup the minimum drinking age of 21 for men and 18 for
women. That difference finally lead to the 1976 US Supreme Court case Craig v.
Boren, which states the alcohol drinking age differences between men and women
violate the Equal Protection Clause under the 14th Amendment of American
Constitution, and 30 states lowered their minimum drinking age for both men and
women to 18 to fix the violation toward 14th Amendment. However, the lower
drinking age caused the increasing of teenager car accident. So, in 1984, the congress
passed the National Minimum Drinking Age Actto rise the national drinking age back
to 21. Although there were no more big changes about national legal drinking age
after that, a controversy of a reasonable drinking age was raised among citizens after
experiencing the frequent changes of drinking age. Some people believe a lower
drinking age is needed, while others think the drinking age should stay same
(ProCon.org).
For those who support lower the drinking age, set 21 as the legal drinking age is a
form of age discrimination. Drinking alcohol should be the right of adult and 18 is a
equatable age for adulthood

The North Vietnamese Army ( Nva ) And The Vietcong
The United States of America, one of the most powerful nations in the world at the
time, was completely unprepared for the war that it had joined in Vietnam. The
terrain was unlike any we had ever fought in. From mountains to jungles to rice
paddies, it was wet, hot, cold, and completely unforgiving. To say that the political
situation was tenuous would be a drastic understatement. Not only could officials
not make up their minds, neither could the general populace. The media had an
influence in this war that was heretofore unseen. All of these factors were a great
obstacle in and of themselves and then we put into play the greatest obstacle of all:
the enemy. This was an enemy like we had never seen. The North Vietnamese
Army (NVA) and the Vietcong (VC) were fast, agile, adaptable, and extremely
unpredictable. The VC hid among the common populace and fought like demons.
The NVA were well supplied, well organized, and did not restrict themselves the
way many large armies do. This forced us to have to rapidly adapt and develop new
tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) in order to counter all of these obstacles.
Due to these needs and the rapidly advancing technology and versatility of
helicopters, the Air Cavalry was born. The Air Cav was composed of several types
of airframes including transport aircraft, attack aircraft, and reconnaissance aircraft.
The reconnaissance aircraft were also known as Aeroscouts and were known for their
boldness, audacity,
The Clean Water Act ( Cwa )
In 1972 the Clean Water Act (CWA) was passed, and it established the infrastructure
for waste water management in the U.S. The CWA s main objective is to recover
and preserve the physical, biological, and chemical purity of water. The CWA
formed a program that would ensure communities had clean water by limiting the
exposure of contaminants in U.S. waterways. Waste water treatment is essential to
the world because it gives people ability to use streams and rivers for swimming,
fishing and drinking water. In the early part of the 20th century, pollution in the U.S.
urban waterways caused negative side effects like fish kills, low dissolved oxygen,
bacterial contamination, and algal blooms. Early attempts of controlling water
pollutionkept human waste from contaminating water supplies or reduced floating
junk that hindered shipping. Problems with Pollution and control were mainly local
concerns. Industrial and population growth have increased the requirement for
natural resources, changing the situation drastically. Advancements in decreasing
pollution can hardly keep in front of the increase in population, development of
technology, adjustments in industrial processes, business breakthroughs, increased
land use, and several other factors. The growth in both the variety and quantity of
goods manufactured has greatly altered the size and complexity of waste produced by
industries and it challenges standard treatment technology. The use of pesticides and

Toni Morrison Literary Devices
The postmodernist period was a period in literary period where writers used their
voices to express how they felt about what was going on in the world around them.
During the postmodern period there was many events going on that would cause an
author to feel a certain way and feel the need to express themselves. An event that
could make an author feel the need to express themselves during this period is the
Civil Rights Movement. As a result of the Civil Rights Movement, a color fence, or
barrier of sorts between African Americans and white people, was created based on
opportunity and privilege. In an analysis of Toni Morrison s short stories Sweetness
, The Color Fetish , and The Work You Do, The Person You Are , one can see how
the postmodernist elements of ironyand allusions are demonstrated.
Morrison uses literary devices to her advantage when she is trying to explain her
argument and create an overall tone and feeling of her writing. The postmodern
period was shaped by its use of literary devices to prove a point and open our eyes
to the world they were seeing, irony was just one of the devices Morrison used
specifically. Parody, irony, and narrative instability often inform the tone.
(CollegeBoard, Slide. 31). The authors found a way to express themselves through
their use of literary devices is their way of expressing their tone and using diction
to keep their audience interested. Also, when they use devices such as irony it can
provide a picture for the audience making them create a connection to the time
period. Toni Morrison s use of irony is evident throughout her works but one was
eye catching was, It s not my fault. So you can t blame me. (Sweetness, para. 1).
This is a very ironic statement because Lula Ann s mother is discriminating against
her for how black she is based on the pure fact that her color is going to make her
an outcast in society. This was the beginning for Lula Ann because she wouldn t
have the same opportunity to pass as a white person and receive the same
opportunity granted to those of that skin color. Directly supporting the idea of the
color barrier and the extent people would go to just to try and receive the
opportunities.
As a postmodern author, you cannot
The Effects Of Transportation In The Rocky Horror

Have you ever been so engrossed in a movie that you felt like you were one of the
characters? Star Wars fans are a prime example of this phenomenon. Many fans flock
to the theater wearing costumes. Another example that may help identify
transportation is the audience participation in the movie, The Rocky Horror Picture
Show. Fans would not only dress as one of the characters, but they would interact
with props while the moving was being played. Being so engaged in a movie makes
one feel as if they have been transported into the place they are watching. According
to the article, Transportation Across Media: Repeated Exposure to Print and Film,
Transportation has three main components: cognitive engagement, emotional
engagement, and mental imagery. The self report transportation scale includes items
tapping each of these dimensions, but prior research with the scale suggests that all
three aspects combine to produce transportation effects (Green Brock, 2000). (Media
Psychology, 2008) The idea of one being able to feel as if they are transported into
another world may seem absurd to some, but the reality is we all enjoy movies
because it somehow sends our minds to another world for a short time. It helps us
temporarily forget our daily stressors. Need for cognition is the tendency to enjoy
and engage in effortful cognitive activity (Cacioppo Petty, 1982). (Media Psychology,
2008) The effect of transportation is apparent in watching someone play video games.

How Did Khufu Build Pyramids
Throughout Egyptian history, Pharaohs have constructed pyramids to serve as a
resting place and a gateway into the afterlife. Over a hundred pyramids have existed
in Egypt varying in size and in structure. (world pyramids.com) The largest, most
elaborate pyramid that has been built is the Great Pyramid of Giza. Khufu was an
Egyptian Pharaoh in the fourth dynasty. It is estimated that he became Pharaoh in his
twenties and that he ruled from 2589 B.C to 2566 B.C. Khufu wasted no time in
beginning the construction of his pyramidas soon as he came to power. There is not
much known about this Pharaoh other than his famous construction of the Great
Pyramid of Gizafor which he is widely acknowledged for. (www.bbc.co) It was the

African American Women And The Civil Rights Movement
SOCIAL JUSTICE
Even though African American women have played vital roles in social justice
movements, they are often overshadowed because of their gender. Only a few
organizations like Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) gave more
access for female leadership. But more often than none, women had informal
positions of leadership.
Because of gender norms in the 1960 s, society was resistant toward women in power
and leadership, especially African Americanones. Even though African American
women had the traits, skills, and personalities to be formal leaders of social justice
movements like the Civil Rights Movement, they were never given a platform to do
so, mostly because their leadership wouldn t be recognized as legitimate ... Show

Wether it was recruitment, mobilization, or obtaining and securing resources, African
American women were the backbone and the unsung heros of these movements.
Given the context of the times, the period 1954 65, women who participated in the
civil rights movement experienced unprecedented power (Robnett 1996).
African American women have been major actors in social activism since their
arrival in the Americas. They have used various strategies like writing articles and
books, organizing demonstrations and more to create cultural change. Using the
pressure of racism and sexism, African American women created a space for a
unique form of leadership that encapsulated both cultural and political, more formally
know as bridge leadership.
POLITICS
African American women s leadership in the community is translating into political
power. What has once been seen as a political liability, gender and race, is now
turning into political capital. Just as African American women used their exclusive
perspective to further social justice movements, they are using that it in the political
world and are being just as successful. Their presence in local, state, and federal
government is increasing. Because of their ability to connect to those they represent
and think outside of the box, African America women are becoming very successful
political actors. Since they are able to weave traditional
The Private Individual On The Internet Essay

international network of interconnected computers that enables millions of people
to communicate with each other in Cyberspace. Some refer to the Internet as the
World Wide Web at the time of its creation, the Internet was a designated high
speed network built by the U.S. Department of Defense as a digital
communications experiment. The Internet is no longer just a communications
experiment and is used in nearly everyone s lives. In our contemporary lives, we
take for granted the unfathomable scale of the Internet and how it affects everyday
life. In 2015, there were an estimated 876,812,666 websites. Cyberspace is the
virtual computer world, and more specifically, is an electronic medium used to form
a global computer network to facilitate online communication. Cyberspace is what
allows the individual to share a news article or picture and purchase new clothes.
With these two definitions in place, the Internet is the computer network that
Cyberspace uses to facilitate the online communication. In cyberspace...every
interaction is like the credit card purchase. The best way to grasp this point is to
take seriously, if only for a moment, the metaphor that cyberspace is an actual place,
a computer constructed world, a virtual reality. In this alternate universe, you are

Influence Processes: A Leadership Analysis
Leadership Ethics for Managers
June 1, 2008 Abstract
A leader s ability to influence and motivate followers is a crucial skill that effective
leaders must possess. This is why organizations allow leaders to control many of the
operational functions of the organization. By controlling several key operational
components, the leader is able to direct and institute change throughout the
organization. The purpose of this paper is to analyze leader influence models and
present the practical implications of their use. Influence Processes: A Leadership
Analysis
Introduction
In order to be an effective leader, a leader must be able to influence followers to
comply and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By having control over the organizations reward system, the leader can mold the
organization into one that conforms and promotes their organizational vision. Used
correctly, this form of leadership influence can effectively change an organization
over time by rewarding those who buy into and promote the leaders style of
leadership.
Promoting and Selecting Leaders: In addition to the above influence factors,
leaders also are empowered to select and promote the leadership within the
organization (Nahavandi, 2006). This provides them with a powerful tool to
influence and effectively create an organizational following of their values and
vision. By selecting leaders who mirror their values and leadership style, the leader
is able to create a loyal and like minded leadership staff. While this may be an
effective influence tool, the leader risks alienating key personnel and breeding doubts
about their ability to lead if they utilize this form of influence in an unethical manner.
Modeling Behaviors:
Finally, leaders can also use their influence to model the behavior of their
subordinates (Nahavandi, 2006). They achieve this by providing guidance and advise
to their followers and by inviting others to participate in organizational team building
activities. When leaders actively promote and encourage their followers to follow
their examples they are effectively molding the future behaviors of their

The Modern Grotesque Hero in John Kennedy Toole s, A Confederacy of Dunces
John Kennedy Toole unleashes a compelling criticism of modern society in the
principal work he produced in his short lifetime, A Confederacy of Dunces. Using
masterfully crafted comedy, Toole actually strengthens his disparaging position on the
modern world. Boisterously and unabashedly opinionated, Ignatius Reilly, the
principal character of this novel, colors the narrative with a poignant humor that
simultaneously evokes both laughter and pity from readers. Near the beginning of the
story, his mother s financial difficulties suddenly force Ignatius to leave the womb
like security of his bedroom and seek employment, making him abandon his project

A definition of grotesque becomes necessary to fully understand the role that it plays
in heightening the novel s satire. In A Handbook to Literature, William Harmon and
C. Hugh Holman describe grotesque as being applied to anything having the qualities
of grotesque art: bizarre, incongruous, ugly, unnatural, fantastic, abnormal...The
interest in the grotesque is usually considered an outgrowth of interest in the
irrational, distrust of any cosmic order, and frustration at humankind s lot in the
universe (240 41). Thus, the grotesque, because of its association with the helpless
cynicism of man in his world, is an ideal technique to employ when embarking upon
criticism of contemporary society.
However, to most successfully use the grotesque, especially in a humorous work such
as Toole s, the author must present a norm from which to deviate, creating a more
potent conflict between opposites. Michael Kline elaborates on this in his analysis of
A Confederacy of Dunces: ...the grotesque cannot be absolute in order to produce
humor. While it can be strange, it must also contrast with some attempted unity to
which we compare its divergence (284). Toole understands this rule of effective
conflict, and he presents two disparate levels of grotesque in his A Confederacy of
Dunces. A reader detects the incongruity that exists within Ignatius himself, while
also identifying the more observable conflict between Ignatius and modern society.

The stone remains cold from decades of freezing winter nights as it sat neglected

musty smell continues into the library. Shelves of forgotten novels line the
fourwalls, and a large window is strategically placed between two of the shelves.
The lights hangingfrom the ceiling are dimmed, and the melodic ringing of wind
could be heard. Bodies crowdtogether in the small room, and all heads gaze at one
single item. The television growls awarning, but it is set up in the form of a

Their presence adds a hype to the idea of what awaits. The television blanks out and

The creek ofthe door is heard over the rumbling of voices, when a bright light blinds
my vision for a quicksecond. A heated breeze flocks into the room from the
shadowy corridor. The empty smell of steam surrounds, and it caresses my arms

The Truth About Pancreatic Cancer Essay
1.1Pancreatic cancer
Pancreatic cancer is a highly lethal disease that is ranked fourth among cancer
related deaths in Norway. 31 Yearly 600 650 new cases are detected, corresponding
to 7 per 100 000 inhabitant. The survival rate five years after diagnosis is very low, at
only 5 %. 19 Approximately 90 % of patients diagnosed with advanced pancreatic
cancer survive less than one year, with a median survival of 5 6 months. The high
mortality rate is connected to late diagnosis, early metastasis and poor response to
chemo and radiotherapy. 34 Pancreatic cancer can be inherited, but 90 % of cases are
considered sporadic. 19 The major histological type of pancreatic cancer is ductal

Evidence shows that some families have increased risk of pancreatic cancer,
implying a genetic contribution. 28 The genetic base for this increased risk has
not been identified yet, but mutations in BRCA2 and PALB2, among others, are
associated with greater risk of disease 37. Only 5 10 % of patients have a family
history of the disease. 19 It has been shown that in families with four or more cases
of pancreatic cancer the risk of disease is 57 times higher than in families with no
history of disease. 19
1.1.2Stage and diagnostics
Pancreatic cancer tumors are staged according to tumor node metastasis (TNM)
classifications of the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC). The staging of
tumors is based on tumor size and localization, and connected to resectability. 19
Further staging reflect whether lymph node metastasis (N stage) or distant metastasis
(M stage) are present. Tumor stage, nodal stage and distant metastasis are combined
into stages which tell about the overall disease. See Table 1 for complete overview
of this staging strategy. 19

Hellenistic Kingship Research Paper
The nature of Hellenistic kingship is defined by a rise to power through military
conquest and victories and being in a constant state of warfare. One weakness of
these kings would their ability gain a vast territory of land during one battle and
retain it for months until they lose it during another battle. Demetrius life can be
viewed as an example of many instances of this struggle to hold power. The nature of
Hellenistic kingship should be looked described as no more than gaining power
through military actions. These rulers could be considered usurpers of Alexander s
empire even though they all attested that they were attempting to reunite it. It s for
this reason that they tried to imitate Alexander by taking over his land and using his...

Also, this power usually is tied to a certain geographical power base that fuels
them, but if it s lose then the kingdom survives in idea only. A perfect example of
this is the rise of power of Antigonus Monopthalamus and his son Demetrius. They
were combatting the other Diadochi and were having quite a lot of success. Their
territory was expanding beyond Asia Minor, and dipping into Syria, Greece, and even
Babylon at one point. Unfortunately, this all ended at one moment in the Battle of
Ipsus. With the help of Seleucus elephants and Demetrius hubris, Antigonus was
killed and his son left with a fairly large army but barely any territorial holdings.
Demetrius went from one of the most powerful Hellenistic kings to royalty on the
run. However, fortunes reversed for him again as he entered an alliance with
Seleucus who proposed a marriage alliance. Demetrius, in 295 B.C., was able to
retake the treacherous strategic city of Athens. After Cassander s death in 297
B.C., he was also able to intervene in Macedon and eventually murder Alexander V
of Macedon and take over the kingdom. In 288, a coalition against Demetrius
expelled him from almost all of Greece. During his final campaign in Asia Minor in
285 B.C., he was captured by Seleucus and died in prison years later. Demetrius

The Effect Of The Mafia On Italy s Economy
The ability of the citizens of a country to become entrepreneurs and stimulate the
economy by starting up companies is essential for the success of a country. There are
many variables that can have a negative effect on an economy and one that is
currently hurting Italy s economy is the mafia. An indirect side effect of the mafia s
impact on the Gross domestic Profit is the government s ability to aid small business
growth. Thus, the government must spend more money to help businesses to

First of all, there are different types of Italian mafias, depending upon which region
that they are located in and the market that they are exploiting. Italian organized
crime is known all over the world, to the point that the term Mafia is now
understood across the globe as referring to the organized criminal underworld.
Literature on the subject is abundant, ranging from history, sociology and
criminology to fiction and plain entertainment. The distinctive character, looks,
habits, idiosyncrasies and jargon of the Mafiosi have been described, analyzed,
explained and imitated. Apparently, everybody is familiar with Italian organized
crime (Europol 4). The top three mafia organizations operating in Italy are Cosa

Sicily as the Mafiosi s main activity consists of their forced protection and they
have strong ties to Sicily s government. La Camorra is located in the region of
Campania, but more specifically in the capital: Napoli. La Camorra s main focus is
controlling the food and coffee markets, black market, as well as some drug
trafficking. The Camorra clan, in turn, acquired from this relationship (1)
considerable economic resources from the firms (2) the consequent systematic control
of economic activity in the territorial area, the possibility of furnishing jobs and a
marginal quota of the firm s income, and hence widespread social consensus and even
open legitimacy; (3) finally, through the politicians, they secured the necessary
institutional cover, in particular with the police and with possible intervention in
eventual judicial proceedings. This original relationship between the Camorra and
illegal non organized activities has not fundamentally changed over time, but has
become stronger and deeper as a result of two factors. (1) The omertГ of its victims

range to the human voice. Because of it s wide voice range, it can imitate the
sound of human voice closest compare to other string instruments. Out of all the

Differences Between Han China And Gupta India
During the years 320 BCE and 550 CE, two civilizations coexisted, Han China and
Gupta India; both civilizations developed in Eurasia. Han China and Gupta India,
both focused their religious views on the mandate of heaven. The political system of
Han China is similar to that of Gupta India, in that both included strict laws and
stressed the importance of your role in society. Han Chinaand Gupta India also used
hierarchy and bureaucracy as their political control. A major difference between
these administrations is that in Han China the emperor was fully in charge, even
revered, while in Gupta India priests were at the top of the hierarchy. Han China
and Gupta India both had an idea of hierarchy social structure. However, the Gupta s
social hierarchy was based on religion and Han was not. The Han China has king on

racism still exist today has ascended due to the number of recent murders of African
Americans by police officers. Victims such as Trayvon Martin, Sandra Bland,

have been unjustly murdered by police. The incident at Charleston, South Carolina
where nine lives were taken also contributed to the question of racismin the United

As a result, other organizations such as Blue Lives Matters, and All Lives Matters

ensure that all lives matter and not just black lives. The argument between Black
Lives Matter or All Lives Matter has been a heated discussion on social media for
some time now. Indeed, all lives do matter, but the number of blacks killed from in
the past five years says otherwise. Black Americans have a different experience than
other races in the United States. Even though today, everyone in American are
supposedly given the same opportunity to prosper, some hurdles are put into place for
black Americans than any other race in the United States. Black Americans are more
likely to get stopped by police than white Americans. Such acts as buying a house,
car, or applying for a job position may be more difficult for an African American
with the same credentials as a white American. People who do not understand how
the Black Lives Matter Movement is an establishment to help aid the oppression of
blacks without belittling other races are like that because they do not experience
the black experience in America. Not to say that white people aren t killed by
policemen, but white Americans aren t targeted by policemen. During the mass
shooting of the church in Charleston, South Carolina committed by Dylann Roof,
for example, he was labeled as mentally ill . When the shooting of the Sandy Hook
elementary school in Connecticut happened, the shooter was also labeled as
mentally ill . When blacks are killed wrongfully, usually a picture of an old
mugshot appears as the cover face. Surveillances and voice recordings of murders of
unarmed blacks on national television are displayed. Officers involved in such cases

performance enhancing and recreational drugs. For years it has been argued that
small progress has been made due to ineffective plans and strategies for dealing with
doping in sports because of commitment from the organization within. Many have
opinions on the poor management and lack of reliable information to implement an
appropriate doping policy. (Doping in sports, 2014)
The use of banned performance enhancing drugs in sports is called doping. Using
drugs to enhance performance is frowned on and is looked at from most as cheating
and unethical. The reasons to shut down this form of cheating are mainly because of
the health risk that comes with it, wanting all athletes to be equal in a since, and to
push for a drug free sport for all. Anti doping authorities state that using performance
enhancing drugs goes against the spirit of sport .
Native East There Is A Dragon
There was a song singing, In ancient east there is a dragon/ its name is China/ in
ancient east there was a group people/ they are all descendants of Dragon (Wang).
The dragon can fly to wherever it wants so that it decided to take a rest in the street
of Bellaire in Houston of the United States in 1870. The dragon left its 250
descendants here and formed a so called Chinatown here. At the beginning, Chinese
people did not have the sense of local American dream because of language problems
and lack of knowledge. They could not interact with local Americans so well based
on their culture and living habits; they had no ideas how to talk to Americans.
Fortunately, by 1980, its population reached more than 20,000 and its economics

According to the author Jenalia Moreno (2009), the new Chinatown had its prosperity
along Bellaire in the 1990s when many Asian entrepreneurs in Houston relocated to
cheaper land; downtown would just reduce their business at night (Jenalia). In just
sixty years, the Chinese people had forged their own Chinatown and found ways to
enjoy economic prosperity in Houston. In addition to learning the English language,
they also started to interact with American society. They put significant efforts into
studying the infrastructure of Houston and understanding which areas of the city
would allow them to succeed in their business ventures. Between 1870 and the 1930s,
the Asian population of Houston established successful businesses and Bellaire Street
became renowned as the home of the Chinese in Houston.
Houston Americans largely consider Chinese food to be their favorite kind of food.
Chinese food is also much more difficult to cook than other cuisines because it takes
people more time to cook and prep the ingredients; as such, Americans prefer to dine
out to enjoy Chinese food that has been cooked by other people. Eric Sandler (2014)
described one of his favorite Chinese restaurants in Chinatown, which is called the

My Values In Life
Your values are the things that you believe are important in the way you live. Your
values tell you if you re living your life the way you want to. The values in a
person s life make them the person they are. Every person has different values that
compliment themselves in making them the person they are and want to be. Some
of my values are being dependable, determined, self responsible, loyalty and
family. Everyone has multiple values that their life runs on. My first value in life
is being dependable. I have that value because you can count on me when I say I
will do something. That is a good value to have so when people think you are
going to do something you actually do it. I am also dependable when you try to
contact me because I most often reply. I most often more than not get all my stuff
in on time. Also if someone depends on you to get somewhere at a certain time you
should get to that certain spot at the time you said. You don t want to make them
wait and make them angry by them waiting there until you decide to show up.
Another value that is good to have is being determined. Everyone should be
determined in some way shape or form. Being determined means that you are trying
to get to a goal that you set and are working your way up to get to that goal. I am
determined by trying to get better at work... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In life you need to be responsible for yourself and you can not depend on other
people. You also have to be responsible and take the blame for what you did. If you
owe money you have to pay up and not ask people to help you out. It is a good value
to have so when no one is there to help you out or tell you what to do you don t have
to freak out. I possess this value by me having to pay for the stuff I buy and have to
work to get the money. Also I had to pay for my car and for the insurance to cover
the car. I am learning what I am going to have to do when I get older and do not

Race And Ethnicity From An Anglo American War Of 1846
And...
In the span of 50 years a lot can change especially when a power struggle began
brewing between land hungry President James Polk of the United States and
recently independent Mexico. California began its transition from the dominance of
Spanish powered Missions to independent Ranchos. In Two Years Before the Mast
Richard Henry Dana Jr explores the issue of race and ethnicity from an Anglo
perspective in newly opened for trade to foreigners California. From the PBS website,
one is able to learn about the Mexican American War of 1846 and the effects it had
on the history of the United Statesand Mexico. Looking deeper into this topic one is
able to discover Michael C. White s testimony as a Mexican citizen of Anglo
descent fighting for the United States. An important document that changed the
course of history was the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. This document was an
agreement between Mexico and the United States and whose certain provisions
were then violated by the latter country. According to the Pio Pico official website,
he was a victim of such practices as he went from being a prominent figure in
society to dying a poor man. A few years after these events, according to the article
Crime and Punishment: Los Angeles County, 1850 1856, crimes emerged against
the now minorities. The 19th century proved to be a timeframe of big change for
Los Angeles. It saw the rise and fall of Mexican power and the social, political and
economic changes that came with these events. Race and

The Day Of The Magic Essay
The man awoke with a start and a hankering for pickle juice. He was laying on the
ground, face squished against something white and hard. Not the first time it had
happened. It was becoming a regular thing these past months. Despite the hardness
of the ground, he did not want to sit up. It would mean another day of facing the
magic. He groaned and blinked the fog out of his eyes. No use in staying on the
floor any longer, he supposed. Before him was a vast sea of white. As far as he
could tell, there weren t even any walls. Even his clothing was made of pure
whiteness. He frowned and pinched himself. He wasn t dreaming. There was a
tapping sound to his left and he turned to find someone standing beside him. They
was tall and lanky, covered in a large black cloak covering him head to toe. Where
their face would be was a large, white plague doctor s mask. On top of their head
rested a black brim hat. They stared down at the man, but said nothing. When the
two locked eye s, familiar images exploded throughout the man s head. It was a
Tuesday, and like every other day of the week, he was once again at Nick s Bar. He
always came around 9 o clock at night, and would be found there until the bar
closed at 2 o clock in the morning. Either Nick, the bartender, or Rick, another
patron and friend of Gary, would call a cab for him to bring their drunk off his ass
friend home to his empty house. It had been like this for around 3 months now ( a

Authoritative Government
People do not much like being told what to do; however, people elect rulers to do
just that and are angered when things do not go their way. People do not much like
making hard decisions, but do not like to agree with people who make them instead.
The ultimate debate when taking a position of power then becomes whether to let the
people have a voice in making a governmentor to build one for them to follow. The
best way to govern is to make a government for your public to follow, an authoritative
government. Authoritative governments benefit people more by creating equality
among for their populations, having a faster law making processes, and establishing a
better instilment of discipline and moral consciousness.

The History and Production of Yummy Jelly Beans Essay
Jelly Beans
Around the world small, sweet, sugar filled candies bring enjoyment to those who
consume them. What are these tiny, pleasure inducing sweets? The answer is jelly
beans. Jelly beans are produced in numerous varieties and flavors; therefore, their
story is just as diverse and colorful as they are.
The History of Jelly Beans Initially, the first jelly bean was created in the early
1800s by an unknown American candy maker. However, one can trace back the
beginnings of their production process to 17th century France. The French made
Jordan Almonds, sugar glazed almonds, by a process called panning, which is now
used to make the hard sugar coating on jelly beans. Panning is the rocking of a
desired item in a container filled with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then the trays are coated with a light layer of cornstarch, which is then left to dry
overnight. The next day, the cornstarch layer is removed, the middles are put
through a moisture steam bath, and are finally sprayed with sugar and left to sit
for another twenty four to forty eight hours. Next, is the panning process where the
centers of the bean are set in a rotating drum, called an engrossing pan. While the
center is rotating, sugar is added gradually to build the hard outer shell. During this
time, colors and flavors are also added to get the unique look and taste of the bean.
Once finished, confectioner s glaze is added to give the beans a shiny, smooth,
and silky appearance. After the beans have been polished (a process that can take
two to four days) they are ready to be shipped to companies and stores. Overall, the
whole process can take between seven to twenty one days depending on the
manufacturer. Consumers can find jelly beans in most candy shops, mini marts, and
grocery stores. If interested in specifically buying Jelly Belly brand, consumers can
go to the Jelly Belly website to make their specialized orders.
Flavors To begin with, there were only a few flavors of jelly beans; however, today
there are many brands all with their own unique renditions on numerous flavors. The
Jelly Belly Company is known for its wide and unusual range of flavors. Their most
popular has changed throughout the years, but Very Cherry
Disputed Territory of Israel and Palestine
The territory of Israel and Palestine has been disputed since 1947, and the conflict in
this region continues to this day. It has become an international conflict as it has
spread outside the boundaries of those nations involved, associating other countries
such as Syria, Jordan and Egypt with the contentions. Other countries have also
become involved, with the aim of generating peace and stability throughout the
region, but as of yet, the unrest remains. The recent conflict originally arose after
world war two as a result of the UN (United Nations) allowing the division of the
Palestine region into Jewish and Arab sectors because of the migration of many Jews
into the region, in 1930 alone 230,000 Jews moved into this location to avoid the
negative attitudes and actions that were brought about as a result of the Hitler
Regime. The Palestinians believe that Israelbelongs to them, and that the UN s
decision is wrong, whereas the Jews believe that parts of the land belong to them
because of the religiously important history related to the location, a movement
known as Zionism also encouraged Jews to move to Palestine as they saw it as the
natural location to create a Jewish state. One location that was proven in court to
religiously belong to the Jews is the Sheik Jarrah neighbourhood, where Jews are now
being allowed to settle, with the other parts of the population being forcefully evicted
from their homes.
One location that is populated by Palestinians is that of the
The Dead Poets Society s Central Theme
In your opinion, which character is transformed the most through his experiences
in the film? Explain and support your argument with specific proof. Todd
Anderson transformed the most throughout the film. He started out as a character
that was afraid to be in front of the class and then was the first person to stand up
for Mr. Keating. Todd refused to read a poem in front of the class and by the end of
the movie he was the first person to stand on the desk and say my captain, oh
captain towards Mr. Keating. Theme: As the film progresses, it becomes readily
apparent that each primary character faces a challenge. These conflicts help
suggest a theme, or central message, that the author and director are trying to
impart to the audience. What do you consider to be Dead Poets Society s central
theme? The Dead Poets Society s major theme is Carpe Diem or seize the day. This
was the message that Mr. Keating sent to all of his students through his lessons. He
wanted them to stand out, find out who they are, and seize every moment. The
characters faced a conflict because they were struggling with what seizing the day
meant to them. Would Neil still have committed suicide if Mr. Keating had never
come into his life? Consider multiple perspectives here as you draft your group
response. This question has been keeping me up at night! I keep wondering what
would have happened to Neil if Mr. Keating was never in his life. Honestly, I have
come to the conclusion that no Neil would
Remarks At The Brandenburg Gate Speech Analysis
The Berlin Wall had been in place for 26 years. Increasing unrest was occurring in
Berlin, and at this crucial time Ronald Reagan, as several presidents had done
before him, traveled to the Brandenburg Gate, seen by most as the symbolical center
of the wall. On June 12, 1987, he then spoke of peace between the USSR and the
Western world, while motivating Berliners to help take down the wall and come
together as a nation once more. Throughout the speech Remarks at the Brandenburg
Gate , by Ronald Reagan, he makes use of imagery as well as appeals to ethos and
pathos to incite the German people to rise up and destroy the Berlin Wall, reunifying
Germany.
To commence, Reagan widely used appeals to ethos in the first portion of his speech
in order to get people listening believing in his speech. The first thing he says is,
Twenty four years ago, President John F. Kennedyvisited Berlin, and speaking to the
people of this city and the world at the city hall. Well since then two other
presidents have come, each in his turn to Berlin. And today, I, myself, make my
second visit to your city. Here, Reagan references the repetition of the past in order
to establish why what he s doing here, emphasizing his position as one of power
authority. Immediately after this, he states that We come to Berlin, we American
Presidents, because it s our duty to speak in this place of freedom. But I must
confess, we re drawn here by other things as well; by the feeling of history in this
city more than 500 years older than our own nation; by the beauty of the Grunewald
and the Tiergarten; most of all, by your courage and determination. In this quote, he
immediately references historical monuments in order to establish credibility to the
German people, showing them that he knows what he s talking about. He then goes
on to claim that Ich hab noch einen Koffer in Berlin. [I still have a suitcase in
Berlin.] Using German in an English speech, he goes above beyond what may have
been expected of an American speaking, improving his credibility.
In addition, with his extensive manipulation of imagery in this speech, Reagan
continues to pull in his viewers listeners after implying that he s worth listening to,

In Dear Friend (?): Culture and Genre in American and Canadian Direct Marketing
Letter , Roger Graves examines how English speaking Canadian people are different
from Americans, and how business communicators need to identify those differences
to be successful in both countries. Roger Graves uses warnings written on the
cigarette packet to argue that Americans see only the health factors when Canadians
consider both health and moral issue.

He mention that Canadian seem to prefer more direct approach than Americans.
(244).In his research, American culture with less power distance using a friendly
facades. As a result, business letters in America starts with Dear friend (244). On the
other hand Canadians prefer business letters with a more formal tone which
establishes more power distance. A Canadian focus is only on the products and
services, anything other than that is insincere.
Business letters in America use economics, nationalistic and patriotic sensibilities to
sell their products and services. In contrast, Canadians prefers to have facts,
professionalism, and confidential analysis of products and services, enhancing the
credibility and trustworthiness of businesses. Canadians view the extrinsic rewards in
the products and services with suspicion suggesting that it may not worth purchasing.
He also observes that the US market is larger and more complex than the Canadian
market. US businesses include a brief explanation of them; whereas, Canadian
businesses assume customers to know who they are.
In the U.S. presidential campaign, Bill Clinton put the date and hand written sign to
reduce the distance with the general people by making it more personal. They want
to believe that politicians are more in touch with the general people by greeting Dear
Friend in their letter as a polite greeting from an equal. In Canada, Dear

  • 1. Mla Citation Essay Writing an essay on the topic of "MLA Citation" can be a challenging task, requiring a thorough understanding of the Modern Language Association (MLA) citation style. MLA is a widely used formatting and citation style in academic writing, and crafting an essay on this subject necessitates a comprehensive grasp of its guidelines. One of the difficulties lies in the meticulous attention to detail required by the MLA style. From formatting the header and title to correctly citing sources in-text and creating a works cited page, each step demands precision. The rules for citing various types of sources, such as books, articles, websites, and more, add an additional layer of complexity. Any deviation from these guidelines may result in a loss of marks, making it imperative for the writer to be well-versed in the intricacies of MLA citation. Furthermore, staying updated with the latest revisions and updates to the MLA style guide is crucial. The guidelines may evolve over time, and a writer must be aware of any changes to ensure the essay adheres to the most current standards. Navigating the intricacies of parenthetical citations, citing electronic sources, and understanding how to format a works cited page can be overwhelming for someone unfamiliar with MLA citation conventions. Additionally, mastering the art of balancing the essay's content with proper citations without compromising the flow of the narrative adds another layer of difficulty. In conclusion, crafting an essay on the topic of "MLA Citation" demands not only writing proficiency but also a meticulous understanding of the specific guidelines outlined by the Modern Language Association. • 2. Jack Ma Leadership Analysis INTRODUCTION The objective of this paper is to apply the knowledge learned in class by studying the leadership characteristics and styles of a leader and what contributed to his/her successes and failures. In my case I have chosen Jack Ma, founder and executive chairman of Alibaba Group . He has become one of the most influential businessmen and is a global example of leadership. However, his road to success was not easy. He had to overcome failure in several occasions and work hard to build his own company and become an influential and powerful global leader. The first thing that will be covered in this paper is his biography. This will help to understand what kind of person he is, how he was able to arrive to a position of power and give an idea of his traits and behaviors. Next, an in depth leadership analysis will follow. This analysis will be based on the theories seen in class. BIOGRAPHY Jack Ma was born in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China. He started studying English at an early age and practiced English every day talking with English speakers at the Hangzhou International Hotel, 70 minutes by bicycle from home. He made free tours of the city to improve his English for nine years. He became a pen pal with one of those foreigners, who nicknamed him Jack because he found it difficult to pronounce his Chinese name. Later in his youth, Ma had trouble attending college. The Chinese entrance exams take place only once a year and Ma took four years to pass
  • 3. Micro Analysis of Micro analysis: Film: Blade Year: 1998 Director: Stephen Norrington In this micro analysis I will be analysing the film Blade which was produced in 1998 and directed by Stephen Norrington. The micro elements I am going to focus on are Mise en scene and cinematography. I will be analysing everything in the scene including props, costumes, facial expressions, gestures, setting, codes framing to determine how it creates meaning. In cinematography I will focus on the camera shots and angles and how these are used to create meaning. Both of these micro elements will be combined to show how they work together in creating meaning for the audience in the scene that I am studying. I am studying scene 1 which is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This connotes that he is angry and frustrated or he is just ready to pounce on the vampire. As soon as the fight scene begins Blade pulls out a shotgun. The shot gun is black and long in length. While the fight is commencing there is a feeling of claustrophobia that the setting creates and entrapment. This feeling is created through the shots used as he is fighting the vampires and the composition. Blade is position in the middle of most of the shots and vampires are surrounding him from either side fighting him. This gives a feeling of isolation and claustrophobia towards the audience. While the fight scene is going on the audience will notice that all the vampires are in red and Blade has high key lighting on him most of the time throughout the scene. This indicates danger around him and evil and also he is isolated. This shows the audience that Blade is going to be the hero because the light that is shining on him indicates hope to the audience but then again indicates coldness at the same time. As the scene goes on there is a mid shot of Blade having lots of stakes around his leg and plunging it into a vampire s heart. The mise en scene makes us think that it is a good vs. evil theme and that Blade is on a mission to kill all the vampires because strapped to his leg is a bundle of stakes, its like Blade was ready and waiting for the vampires to attack. Blade is then enclosed with vampires circling him. The shot used here is a long shot this creates
  • 4. I Was Very Excited To Begin My Internship At Paul Hastings, I was very excited to begin my internship at Paul Hastings, as it was my first real experience in corporate America. I ve had multiple internships before, but I never felt like I was pushed into a better professional. Upon beginning this internship, I was looking forward to a challenge and that is absolutely what I got. Within my first month at Paul Hastings I had completed more work than I did at my last internship which lasted six months. At Paul Hastings, all though my title was intern, I was a member of the business development team. I learned quickly the work I was doing mattered and that it needed to be done well. The expectation there is extremely high, which is something I should ve known going into a competitive internship at one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I have not increased my attention to detail not only in my internship, but all aspects of my life and am grateful for the stern, honest and constructive advice from my supervisor, that allowed me to significantly improve a weakness of mine. During my internship, I had the opportunity to work on a variety of projects. Most of my time was spent using excel and PowerPoint which provided another opportunity for me to strengthen my weaknesses. On excel I would conduct a lot of secondary research that pertained to the clients of the firm. For example, Barclays, who is a huge client in Paul Hastings financial services market, has over 700 people in relation to Paul Hastings. I went through an excel list of 700 contacts and verified through Google and LinkedIn searches whether they were still with the company or not. Most of my projects on excel were like this. Also on excel I managed the budget for the firm and kept track of how much was spent on each client, and what clients had paid the firm for its services. I tended to do well on budgeting projects and any projects involving excel and numbers. Once I realized the type of projects I was doing poorly on I was able to identify why and began making the necessary changes to improve my performance. Any task given to me that involved me having to think and analyze I did very well on. The more mundane and mind numbing projects, were the ones where I would miss multiple little things, which created a poor
  • 5. Swot Analysis Of The Cheesecake Factory Many people may have heard of The Cheesecake Factory, however most people have never had the chance to dine at one nor aware of such an establishment. This shows that there is room to grow and certain target markets The Cheesecake Factory can aim for. Unfortunately, The Cheesecake Factory has many competitors because it competes in the casual dining space within the restaurant industry. There are many competitors in this industry that have been in business longer than The Cheesecake Factory and also have a larger customer base than The Cheesecake Factory. Some competitors for The Cheesecake Factory are Applebee s, Longhorn Steakhouse, Olive Garden, and Red Lobster just to name a few. However, the real competitors for The Cheesecake Factory... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Currently, The Cheesecake Factory s competitors only offer western style meals and desserts and majority of South Asian restaurants is operated on a small scale mainly by family businesses. This alternative has numerous pros with limited amount of cons. The first pro is that this strategy would increase revenue and customer base immensely. Second, it would greatly differentiate The Cheesecake Factory from its competitors. Also, there not many businesses are not penetrating the market for South Asian meals. The Cheesecake Factory could implement this alternative with ease because they have the required infrastructure to implement and only a small investment is required for this strategy. Another pro for this alternative would reduce the dependence from western meals and it would allow The Cheesecake Factory to build a new brand image. The last pro for his alternative is that international dishes have a very high profit margin because consumers are willing to pay premium
  • 6. Motivation Not Hype Research Paper Motivation Not Hype By Matthew Meinck Jan 17, 2012 Motivation is not hype. Due to superficial knowledge and insufficient ability, many so called motivators or motivational speakers design and offer formats that merely hype up participants but offer nothing that is sustainable. How often have you felt inspired by the presence of a charismatic speaker and left the room determined to change your life only to return to earth with a bump the first time you failed to appease a disgruntled customer, meet a sales target or communicate effectively with your staff or friends? What I have to offer is the result of three decades of deep and sustained study of our human nature, resulting in a thorough understanding of human psychology with regard to motivation or the lack there of. • 7. The Importance Of Social Changes In Contemporary Culture Many problems in our society come from the time of the early years of our country when the European arrived in our country in order to settle here. Through these decades we can find an evolution, and adaptation from people in our cultural traditions, morals, beliefs, economy, and educations. These changes drive to a new generation where many people from different ethnicities, such as European, African American, Asians, Hispanics, Latin s and Chicanos had these different feeling, where social changes, help us to find our new identities, in our social behavior. These variations of Social changes in our life s leads to the fact on how people are affected by the social structure, where government issues, economy, education and social issues affect our contemporary culture. In this semester I read some interesting readings and plays, which help me understand clearly how we are affected by situations that reveal and manipulate our social behaviors, which also can lead to a positive and negative effect. The readings and plays that I m going to talk about are the Actos Plays by Luis Valdez , Chicano Drama by Jorge Huerta, The play by Carlos Morton The Many Deaths of Danny Rosales and The Social Protest Theater by Harry J. • 8. Dr. Erik Herzog s Talk Summary I attended the What wakes us up: Networked Circadian Clocks in The Brain talk by Dr. Erik Herzog from Washington University. The talk was extremely interesting and helped me better understand the circadian system s in human s behavior. The first fact that I think is extremely interesting is how our daily rhythm is driven by a small part of the brain called suprachiasmatic nucleus. Our brains are well designed and perfectly localized that each part of the brain responsible for only specific function. However, since everything in the brain is connected, the shift in one part can greatly affect the others. I have also learned that neuroscience research is a broad field that involved interdisciplinarity from multiple fields. To study how the circadian system in our body work, researchers from Dr. Herzog s Laboratory has been using both in vitro, in vivo and behavior observing techniques. At the beginning of the talk, it is interesting to see how the behavior of the mouse changed when researcher removed the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Researchers used luciferase on fireflies to study this mechanism. The result showed some significant results about how this clock gene affect behaviors. With enough enzyme, researchers can repress the DNA at the clock gene and completely change the behavior of any animal. The gene also provided some explanations for how light exposure can change human s behaviors. From the talk, Dr. Herzog mentioned that the VIP (vasoactive intestinal polypeptide) cells in the suprachiasmatic nucleus can respond to light. Therefore, when the light shifts our daily behavior, it means that the VIP cells must be activated somehow in the SCN. The activation of VIP results in a chain of reactions inside the suprachiasmatic nucleus and cause a shift in circadian
  • 9. How Has Art Changed Throughout The Modern Time Modernity represented a time period of human belief in rationality that lasted from . A time period where everything was quantifiable and litteral. Artwork strived to be as visually realistic as possible and it s quality was based on such. It also included the idea that socially and politically, humans were advancing, and that they would act rationally to benefit themselves and act in line with whatever class they were in. And also that psychologically human beings are rational, and as such are potentially able to understand everything in the universe, including themselves, and eventually acquire infinite knowledge. Firstly artwork, during the modern period it s primary goal was to achieve the most real picture as possible. As the camera hadn t been invented yet and it was still the best method of capturing scenes. For example, Mr and Mrs Andrews painted in 1750 that portrayed a wealthy couple overlooking their land. • 10. Questions On Business Ethics And Ethics Introduction to Business Ethics What Is Ethics? To understand business ethics one must first understand that there is no general definition used to define this ethics related topic. Ethics related topics usually include terms such as morals, principles, ethics and values, which are, in most cases, used interchangeably. However, Asgary and Mitschow (2002) defines ethicsas the study of appropriate policies and practices regarding possible controversial issues while offering recommendations for what is right and what is wrong. Ethics can be defined in two different ways. Firstly, ethics can refer to substantiated principles of right and wrong that suggest what persons ought to do, typically in terms of rights, specific virtues, ... Ethics also means, then, that there is a continuous effort of studying as it relates to our own moral beliefs and our moral conduct, and that in striving to ensure that we, live up to principles that are sound. The standards of ethical and moral behavior come from the understanding that we are unique beings. These standards are the innate means of justifying the decisions and actions that are believed to be right, fair, proper, wrong, unfair and improper. We are all unique individuals who depend on others for much of our human experience, particularly our social communications with others. When the guidelines for moral behavior are determined by our societal structure, then some of the social and ethical dilemmas will be handled differently and will be better equipped and mindful in our understanding of how to deal with those that behave immorally or unethically especially in a business environment. Business Ethics Discussed In today s business world, law often governs business ethics while in some instances business ethics provide a basic foundation that businesses should follow in order to gain public acceptance. Business ethics and business morality as a whole generally result from a person s own moral principles in the context of the political and cultural environment in which the organization is

Going After Folik Case Study Going after Frolik MONTREAL, QC The NHL free agent frenzy is hours away and the Montreal Canadiens front office has been very quiet as it usually is ever since Marc Bergevin took over the reins. His main philosophy has been building from the inside through the draft and the Habs prospect pool is getting very solid. Although the organization isn t too fond of signing free agents, there are a few urgent gaps in the lineup that needs to be filled up. Mainly, with the buyout of P A Parenteau, the second line right wing spot is up for grabs. Currently with the team, the right wingers are Brendan Gallagher, Dale Weise and Devante Smith Pelly. There is obviously space for improvement and a forward must be added before the start of the season, in my opinion.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If we look from within, Sven Andrighetto would be the best top 6 option the Habs have in their system. With that said, I don t think that Andrighetto is ready for that big of a jump just yet. So that leaves two options : trading block or free agency. There is one particular right wing on the free agent market that I personally would target: Michael Frolik. A former first round pick, 10th overall, Frolik has played his last two seasons with the Winnipeg Jets, putting up 42 points in each one of them. The Kladno native is listed at 6 foot 1, 200lb and is known for a sound two way game. He has put up 40 points or more in 4 of the 7 seasons he has spent in the NHL, with the Florida Panthers, the Chicago Blackhawks and the Winnipeg Jets. Last season with the Jets, Frolik has averaged 1:35 minute per game on the penalty kill and has scored three goals in those situations. I would picture him on a second line role with his fellow Czech teammate Tomas Plekanec. He definitely fits the style that the Canadiens are trying to play. He even expressed interest in joining the Habs as reported by TVA Sports Renaud Lavoie

In 1933, the 21st Amendment expressed the legislative rights of states that states could set their own alcohol consumption laws. As a result, the minimum drinking age became various among different states. While most of the states have a drinking age of 21 years old, illinois(1933 1961) and Oklahoma (1933 1976) setup the minimum drinking age of 21 for men and 18 for women. That difference finally lead to the 1976 US Supreme Court case Craig v. Boren, which states the alcohol drinking age differences between men and women violate the Equal Protection Clause under the 14th Amendment of American Constitution, and 30 states lowered their minimum drinking age for both men and women to 18 to fix the violation toward 14th Amendment. However, the lower drinking age caused the increasing of teenager car accident. So, in 1984, the congress passed the National Minimum Drinking Age Actto rise the national drinking age back to 21. Although there were no more big changes about national legal drinking age after that, a controversy of a reasonable drinking age was raised among citizens after experiencing the frequent changes of drinking age. Some people believe a lower drinking age is needed, while others think the drinking age should stay same (ProCon.org). For those who support lower the drinking age, set 21 as the legal drinking age is a form of age discrimination. Drinking alcohol should be the right of adult and 18 is a equatable age for adulthood

The North Vietnamese Army ( Nva ) And The Vietcong The United States of America, one of the most powerful nations in the world at the time, was completely unprepared for the war that it had joined in Vietnam. The terrain was unlike any we had ever fought in. From mountains to jungles to rice paddies, it was wet, hot, cold, and completely unforgiving. To say that the political situation was tenuous would be a drastic understatement. Not only could officials not make up their minds, neither could the general populace. The media had an influence in this war that was heretofore unseen. All of these factors were a great obstacle in and of themselves and then we put into play the greatest obstacle of all: the enemy. This was an enemy like we had never seen. The North Vietnamese Army (NVA) and the Vietcong (VC) were fast, agile, adaptable, and extremely unpredictable. The VC hid among the common populace and fought like demons. The NVA were well supplied, well organized, and did not restrict themselves the way many large armies do. This forced us to have to rapidly adapt and develop new tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) in order to counter all of these obstacles. Due to these needs and the rapidly advancing technology and versatility of helicopters, the Air Cavalry was born. The Air Cav was composed of several types of airframes including transport aircraft, attack aircraft, and reconnaissance aircraft. The reconnaissance aircraft were also known as Aeroscouts and were known for their boldness, audacity,

The CWA formed a program that would ensure communities had clean water by limiting the exposure of contaminants in U.S. waterways. Waste water treatment is essential to the world because it gives people ability to use streams and rivers for swimming, fishing and drinking water. In the early part of the 20th century, pollution in the U.S. urban waterways caused negative side effects like fish kills, low dissolved oxygen, bacterial contamination, and algal blooms. Early attempts of controlling water pollutionkept human waste from contaminating water supplies or reduced floating junk that hindered shipping. Problems with Pollution and control were mainly local concerns. Industrial and population growth have increased the requirement for natural resources, changing the situation drastically. Advancements in decreasing pollution can hardly keep in front of the increase in population, development of technology, adjustments in industrial processes, business breakthroughs, increased land use, and several other factors. The growth in both the variety and quantity of goods manufactured has greatly altered the size and complexity of waste produced by industries and it challenges standard treatment technology. • 19. Toni Morrison Literary Devices The postmodernist period was a period in literary period where writers used their voices to express how they felt about what was going on in the world around them. During the postmodern period there was many events going on that would cause an author to feel a certain way and feel the need to express themselves. An event that could make an author feel the need to express themselves during this period is the Civil Rights Movement. As a result of the Civil Rights Movement, a color fence, or barrier of sorts between African Americans and white people, was created based on opportunity and privilege. In an analysis of Toni Morrison s short stories Sweetness , The Color Fetish , and The Work You Do, The Person You Are , one can see how the postmodernist elements of ironyand allusions are demonstrated. Morrison uses literary devices to her advantage when she is trying to explain her argument and create an overall tone and feeling of her writing. The postmodern period was shaped by its use of literary devices to prove a point and open our eyes to the world they were seeing, irony was just one of the devices Morrison used specifically. Parody, irony, and narrative instability often inform the tone. (CollegeBoard, Slide. 31). The authors found a way to express themselves through their use of literary devices is their way of expressing their tone and using diction to keep their audience interested. Also, when they use devices such as irony it can provide a picture for the audience making them create a connection to the time period. Toni Morrison s use of irony is evident throughout her works but one was eye catching was, It s not my fault. So you can t blame me. (Sweetness, para. 1). This is a very ironic statement because Lula Ann s mother is discriminating against her for how black she is based on the pure fact that her color is going to make her an outcast in society. This was the beginning for Lula Ann because she wouldn t have the same opportunity to pass as a white person and receive the same opportunity granted to those of that skin color. Directly supporting the idea of the color barrier and the extent people would go to just to try and receive the opportunities. As a postmodern author, you cannot

Star Wars fans are a prime example of this phenomenon. Many fans flock to the theater wearing costumes. Another example that may help identify transportation is the audience participation in the movie, The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Fans would not only dress as one of the characters, but they would interact with props while the moving was being played. Being so engaged in a movie makes one feel as if they have been transported into the place they are watching. According to the article, Transportation Across Media: Repeated Exposure to Print and Film, Transportation has three main components: cognitive engagement, emotional engagement, and mental imagery. The self report transportation scale includes items tapping each of these dimensions, but prior research with the scale suggests that all three aspects combine to produce transportation effects (Green Brock, 2000). (Media Psychology, 2008) The idea of one being able to feel as if they are transported into another world may seem absurd to some, but the reality is we all enjoy movies because it somehow sends our minds to another world for a short time. It helps us temporarily forget our daily stressors. Need for cognition is the tendency to enjoy and engage in effortful cognitive activity (Cacioppo Petty, 1982). The Internet is no longer just a communications experiment and is used in nearly everyone s lives. In our contemporary lives, we take for granted the unfathomable scale of the Internet and how it affects everyday life. In 2015, there were an estimated 876,812,666 websites. By controlling several key operational components, the leader is able to direct and institute change throughout the organization. Used correctly, this form of leadership influence can effectively change an organization over time by rewarding those who buy into and promote the leaders style of leadership. Promoting and Selecting Leaders: In addition to the above influence factors, leaders also are empowered to select and promote the leadership within the organization (Nahavandi, 2006). This provides them with a powerful tool to influence and effectively create an organizational following of their values and vision. By selecting leaders who mirror their values and leadership style, the leader is able to create a loyal and like minded leadership staff. While this may be an effective influence tool, the leader risks alienating key personnel and breeding doubts about their ability to lead if they utilize this form of influence in an unethical manner. Modeling Behaviors: Finally, leaders can also use their influence to model the behavior of their subordinates (Nahavandi, 2006). They achieve this by providing guidance and advise to their followers and by inviting others to participate in organizational team building activities. When leaders actively promote and encourage their followers to follow their examples they are effectively molding the future behaviors of their

Using masterfully crafted comedy, Toole actually strengthens his disparaging position on the modern world. Boisterously and unabashedly opinionated, Ignatius Reilly, the principal character of this novel, colors the narrative with a poignant humor that simultaneously evokes both laughter and pity from readers. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A definition of grotesque becomes necessary to fully understand the role that it plays in heightening the novel s satire. In A Handbook to Literature, William Harmon and C. Hugh Holman describe grotesque as being applied to anything having the qualities of grotesque art: bizarre, incongruous, ugly, unnatural, fantastic, abnormal...The interest in the grotesque is usually considered an outgrowth of interest in the irrational, distrust of any cosmic order, and frustration at humankind s lot in the universe (240 41). Thus, the grotesque, because of its association with the helpless cynicism of man in his world, is an ideal technique to employ when embarking upon criticism of contemporary society. However, to most successfully use the grotesque, especially in a humorous work such as Toole s, the author must present a norm from which to deviate, creating a more potent conflict between opposites. Michael Kline elaborates on this in his analysis of A Confederacy of Dunces: ...the grotesque cannot be absolute in order to produce humor. While it can be strange, it must also contrast with some attempted unity to which we compare its divergence (284). Toole understands this rule of effective conflict, and he presents two disparate levels of grotesque in his A Confederacy of Dunces. A reader detects the incongruity that exists within Ignatius himself, while also identifying the more observable conflict between Ignatius and modern society.

Their territory was expanding beyond Asia Minor, and dipping into Syria, Greece, and even Babylon at one point. Unfortunately, this all ended at one moment in the Battle of Ipsus. But I must confess, we re drawn here by other things as well; by the feeling of history in this city more than 500 years older than our own nation; by the beauty of the Grunewald and the Tiergarten; most of all, by your courage and determination. He then goes on to claim that Ich hab noch einen Koffer in Berlin. [I still have a suitcase in Berlin.] Using German in an English speech, he goes above beyond what may have been expected of an American speaking, improving his credibility.
