4. STUFFY NOSE
• Stuffy nose in newborn are quite common and often due to normal
congestion .It can results from nasal passages still adjusting after
birth, exposure to day air or a mild cold.
Signs and symptoms
• Noisy Breathing
• Difficulty breastfeeding/ bottle feeding
• Occasional sneezing
• Trouble sleeping
6. STICKY EYES
• Sticky eyes are also quite common and often due to chemical irritant or
bacterial infections or staphylococcus
Signs and symptoms
• Excessive tearing
• Yellowish or greenish discharge
• Crusting around the eyes
• Difficulty to open eye due to stickness
7. MANAGEMENT
• Clean the eye with warm water and a clean cloth to remove any
discharge
• Erythromycin 0.5% ointment is used every 6 hrs for 7-10 days
• Massage the tear duct area gently with a clean finger to help clear
any blockage
8. SKIN RASHES
• Skin rashes are most common in newborn. It occurs due to various
factors such as :
1. Diaper rash : Due to prolonged exposure to urine and feces
2. Heat rash : Occurs when sweat glands become blocked
3. Eczema : Due to dry and itchy skin
4. Milia : Tiny white bumps on the face due to blocked oil glands
5. Baby acne : Small red or white bumps on the face due to
hormonal changes
6. Cradle cap: Yellow, scaly patches on the scalp
9. MANAGEMENT
• Use mild soap and water
• Keep the affected area clean and dry
• Frequent care
• The rash persist worsen or spread consult a paediatrician
10. ORAL THRUSH
• It is a fungal infection characterized by white patches in the mouth
and tongue
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS
• White patches on the tongue , gum , roof of the mouth
• Redness or soreness
• Difficulty in sucking or swallowing
• Loss of appetite
• Cracking or redness to the corners of mouth
