Advantages And Disadvantages Of Enlargement
1. Introduction From the intergovernmental conferences of Rome, Nice, Amsterdam and Lisbon, as
well as the lastest accession of Croatia to the European Union (EU), it appears that the political
imperative of the EU was, and still is, simultaneous deepening and enlarging of the EU. Still, the
question which burns in everyone s mind is can such policy be maintained pro futuro and what is the
trade off of such continuing policy for the EU Member States? Before the subject of deepening and
enlargement can be approached, one must have in mind that the processes of further integration of the
Member States into the EU and the enlargement of the EU depend on many economic, political and
legal factors as well as certain practical concerns. Consequently, ... Show more content on

The division between the poor and the rich is becoming ever more emphasized and underlying
political and social stress caused by this fact alone can shake the core foundation of the EU as a
monetary union. In addition, as more countries have a say in the policy making, it becomes harder to
reach consensus on future policies. Furthermore, it is becoming more and more evident that the overall
difference in national policy objectives, economic structures and potentials, financial constraints, and
societal preferences may lead to future conflicts amongst Member States. Therefore, it will become
essential for the EU to introduce effective political and economic mechanisms for tackling these future
discords trough institutional framewoek, perhaps even in moving towards federalization of the

The Influence of Renaissance in Art and Architecture
The influences of any era is evident through artwork and architecture. During the Middle Ages the
main influence was the church, this is evident through the focus on biblical and religious symbols.
During the Renaissance the main focus was the study of people. This is shown through the increase in
self portraits and classical antiquity inspired buildings. The change between the Middle Ages and the
Renaissance is best shown through the art and architecture, demonstrated specifically through an
emphasis on religion and classical antiquity, both suggesting a clear cultural change. The culture of
both of these eras was greatly shaped by the studies of humanism and theology. The transformation of
cultural studies from theology to philology ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The art and architecture displayed during the Renaissance showed many influences from the ancient
Greek and Roman cultures. Middle age architecture led into humanism and classical antiquity, which
is shown through many buildings during that time (Deliyannis). Middle Age architecture was
influenced by Romanesque architecture. Their buildings had pointed arches, big windows, bigger
buildings and more focus on religious styles (Deliyannis). This is evident through the many cathedrals
in England. While Middle Age architecture was influenced by Romanesque architecture, Renaissance
architecture was influenced by classical antiquity (Hankins). Classical antiquity is known as the revial
of the cultures of Greece and Rome. Renaissance architecture focused on symmetry, proportion and
geometry. The Pazzi Chapel in Florence was greatly influenced by classical antiquity (Class Notes).
This is shown through the rounded arches and big windows of the building. The architecture from the
renaissance and the Middle Ages shows the change of building style and the impacts of the influence
they received. During the Middle Ages, symbolism was a big part of the current day art because of the
major focus on the church and theology. Jesus and Mary were big symbols during that time, which is
evident in the numerous paintings of them from the Middle Ages (Class Notes). During the Middle
Ages, Jesus, Mary, Angels, the devil and the cross were huge symbols. In the painting Duccio, Jesus

The Book Thief Book Report
Through the eyes of Death, Liesel Meminger s story is told. Young Liesel and her brother, escorted by
their mother, are travelling by train to live with their new foster parents, Rosa and Hans Hubermann.
During this trip, Werner, her brother, dies a mysterious death. During his burial, Liesel snags a book
from the gravedigger. This was the first of many books to be stolen. When Liesel and her mother
arrive in Molching, Germany, Liesel is reluctant to leave. Hans coaxes her inside and becomes the
fatherly figure she never had. Liesel adjusts to her new life, but is tormented by nightmares of her
brothers death. Hans helps her cope by teaching her to read. She soon learns the value of words and
steals another book at the book burning held to celebrate Hitler s birthday. She also begins to steal
books from Ilsa Hermann, a former customer of their laundry business. While attending school, Liesel
meets Rudy Steiner, who happens to be her neighbor. Rudy is obsessed with Jesse Owens, for he went
as far as to paint himself with charcoal when practicing his sprints. Despite this incident, Liesel still
befriends him. Liesel also becomes good friends with Max, a Jew that Hans begins harboring in their
house. However, after a while, Max s safety is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

her misdeed. She fears that someone saw her, for those books went against Hitler s beliefs, and if she s
caught, she will be punished. As these books, the ones threatening Hitler s ideal society, were being
destroyed, new ones were being created. A well known example is Hitler s Mein Kampf. Hans buys

What does your car say about you? The colors, size and type of car all reflect how people driving,
vision others as a people. Bumper stickers are a way individuals show particular sides of who they are.
Bumper stickers can range from humor, politics, sexual orientations, gender, or personal information,
such as school , nationality or location.
Over the last week I have seen bumper stickers that associate individuals with different organizations
and clubs, such as N.R.A. The National Rifle Association. Another sticker told people that the person

what a goddess looks like, quot; and quot;Mean people suck, nice people swallow and cool people let

they have a great sense of humor, a dirty mind, or perhaps they are bumptious people whom truly

other drivers and create different reactions.
Military stickers can be honorable and represent, hard work, pride, and dedication to ones country or

show that they are associated with that group of people. However, When people put his stickers on

Absolute Monarchy
For a significant period of European history, there was a concerted push towards the establishment of
absolute monarchy. The absolute monarchy was the apex of the pyramid of power and influence.
Although the monarch claimed complete autocratic authority by virtue of blood, the monarchy was
only fully secured by the presence of a supportive aristocracy and a stable, established church. This
was a tripartite; the monarch, the aristocrat, and the church. Absolute monarchy is best exemplified in
the reign of Louis XIV of France. Using the French as an example, and on the basis of the tripartite,
one can begin to understand what led to the fall of absolute monarchy. It was a breakdown of the
alliance between the monarchy and the aristocrats. The

Casey Holwagner Biography
Tick, tock, tick, tock. The cogs in the clock spin and whir in harmony with an express purpose of
moving the hands around the face, each part of the machine fulfilling its task. Like the clock, factories
and companies require each link in the chain to work together in order to reach their full potential. The
task of coordinating, arranging, fitting all these pieces together in order to reach maximum efficiency
is executed by Industrial Engineers, a group that a number of students attending North Dakota State
University, NDSU, plan on joining, a group that Casey Holwagner hopes to become a part of in four
years. Casey Holwagner was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on June 10, 1998, however he did not

finished his secondary schooling in Horace, North Dakota. It was also in Horace that Casey pursued a
stint in both basketball and golf. He played golf from seventh to eighth grade, and was on the West

Struggles Of A Black Man
Struggles Of a Black Man Ballad of the Landlord is a poem by Langston Hughes that shows the
struggles of a black man in a white society. There are opposing forces that make this black man suffer
and he gets no retribution or any justice for the things that the people accuse him of. Through each of
these voices the poem is thoroughly explained and can be analysed in such a way. The forces in this
poem is the tenant, landlord, police, and the press. Each one of these forces shows the racial struggles
of an innocent black man. The main person in the poem is the tenant, which in the last line tells us, he
is black. The tenant is characterized by his slang and his strong dislike for the landlord. The tenant
uses slang, contracted words, and nonstandard grammar. This non formal way of English suggests the
tenant s separation from the world of convention, represented by the formal way of the police and the
press, which appear later in the poem. Although the tenant speaks in a non formal way, do not let that
fool you. The tenant s reason to be mad at the landlord is reasonable and just. He begins with a
reasonable complaint and a gentle reminder that the complaint is already a week old: My roof has
sprung a leak. / Don t you member I told you about it / Way last week? (lines 2 4). In the second
stanza, he appeals diplomatically to the landlord s self interest: These steps is broken down. / When
you come up yourself / It s a wonder you don t fall down (6 8). In the third

The Dependent Variable, Perception Of Safety On Campus Essay
The dependent variable, perception of safety on campus, was measured by an item on the
questionnaire asking students to indicate their level of satisfaction on feeling safe on campus.
Respondents rated their satisfaction on a scale from 1 (Very satisfied) to 5 (Very dissatisfied).
Responses to this item were recoded into three categories. Very satisfied and satisfied were combined
and recoded 0 (Satisfied). Undecided was recoded 1 (Undecided). Very dissatisfied and dissatisfied
together were recoded 2 (Dissatisfied). Recoding was deemed necessary for easier interpretation of
findings (See Table 1). Independent Variables The variables, perception of officers fairness and
impartiality, fear at night, and violence in residence halls, were operationalized by an item on the
questionnaire asking students to indicate their satisfaction or agreement. Responses to this item ranged
from 1 (Very satisfied) to 5 (Very dissatisfied). Similarly, responses were recoded into three categories
1 (Satisfied a combination of both satisfied and very satisfied responses), 2 (Undecided) or 3
(Dissatisfied a combination of both dissatisfied and very dissatisfied responses). Gender was a
dichotomous variable, with male surveyees coded 1 and female surveyees coded 0. Race or ethnicity

Relativism And The Universal Declaration Of Human Rights
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) is a universal document that is likely acceptable
and applicable for everyone. The UDHR identifies basic human rights that are based on the theory of
Universalism. On the other hand, relativist claims that human rights are culturally dependent, and that
no moral values can be made to apply to all cultures. Second notion is the UDHR are product of
western political perspectives, such as Magna Carta of the UK, the American Bill of Rights, and the
French revolution. Looking at these different theories about relativism from the Kevin Avruch s piece
of reading, I believe that all three forms of relativism (descriptive, normative, and epistemic)
contradicts the claim by the principles of the UDHR.
Avruch says that descriptive relativism is the acknowledgement of differences rooted in culture or, as

Booker T Washington 1894 Atlanta Compromise Speech Analysis
In Booker T. Washington s 1895 Atlanta Compromise Speech, he is trying to convince his audience by
using vivid imagery, allegories, repetition, and reasonable ideas. He uses an optimistic tone to convey
four appeals. Throughout the whole speech, he establishes his credibility to a predominantly white
audience to make his point stand out for the changes he believes are necessary.
Booker T. Washington delivers the 1895 Atlanta Compromise Speech to a white and black audience
about the equality blacks and whites deserve. As a black speaker in the north, Washington influences
and impresses many of the northern citizens with his moving speech. Washington brought with him
...evidence of racial progress in the South . His audience contained the president and the board of
directors as well as citizens.
In the beginning, Washington uses vivid imagery through his ideas. He begins his speech with strong
statistics, One third of the population of the South is of the Negro race. No enterprise seeking the
material, civil, or moral welfare of this section can disregard this element of our population and reach
the highest success, (Washington 1). Using logos in this speech shows his strong points to his
audience revealing a realistic view of what is going on around them, and represent the kind of power
the black population actually has. Washington also applies ethos in his opening statements by
establishing his credibility and aspirations. American Negro been more fittingly and generously
recognized than by the managers of this magnificent Exposition at every stage of its progress. It is a
recognition that will do more to cement the friendship of the two races than any occurrence since the
dawn of our freedom, (Washington 1). He uses this to to express his aspirations for the long run and
establish where he stands. Without this section, Washington may not have everyone s attention in the
audience. The purpose may not be understood as clearly. Later in his speech, Washington uses strong
rhetorical devices to deliver more examples of his point of view and feelings on this topic. Washington
uses many powerful rhetorical devices throughout his speech, including this allegory, A ship lost at sea

happenings in my lifetime. In the book The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, good and evil are a large part of
the book. The novel has many occurrences where it shows that there is conflict in life, and others that
show there is still good in the world. The good may be hard to point out at times, between all the

Ambiguity In Emily Bronte s Remembrance
In the poem Remembrance, Emily Bronte writes about a person who mourns the death of a loved one.
Since no names are explicitly given, however, ambiguity surrounds the identity of the speaker and
loved one. One interpretation is that the persona is Bronte herself, having lost her mother and sisters at
a young age. Another interpretation is that the persona is simply a figure through which Bronte
expresses the general experiences of love, loss, and memory. However, after reading the poem, it is

Characterization of Rachel Through the Use of Literary...
Characterization of Rachel Through the Use of Literary Techniques in Cisneros Eleven
Sandra Cisneros writes a memoir through the eyes of an eleven year old. Turning eleven happens to be
a tragic day for the main character, Rachel. Through various literary techniques such as hyperbole,
simile, and syntax, Rachel is characterized. Rachel is a fresh turning eleven year old who finds herself
in an awful situation on her birthday. Forced to wear a raggedy old sweater that doesn t belong to her,
she makes it defiantly clear her feelings towards the clothing item, and we see this through use of
hyperboles. Rachel describes the sweater as ugly and too stretched out like you could use it for a jump
rope. This extreme exaggeration demonstrates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This inner defiance gives evidence to Rachel s determination and individuality. The sweater now
represents a sort of barrier and if she submits herself to it, she fears the world of ages and maturity.
The inner battle continues through use of similes and syntax patterns. Cisneros brilliantly weaves a
series of vivid metaphors that of an eleven year old to further portray Rachel s character. Today I wish
I didn t have only eleven years rattling inside me like pennies in a tin band aid box. This simile
characterizes Rachel as not only a child but also portrays her desire to be older. The image evokes a
childish habit of collecting pennies in a tin box, a juvenile form of a most precious piggy bank. But in
addition to labeling Rachel s age, it also hints at her feelings of wanting out. Rachel feels trapped by
her ripe young age of eleven because she feels as if she doesn t have the years behind her to justify her
non acceptance of the sweater. Afraid to say no and stand up for herself, Rachel unwillingly has to
take the sweater, which smells like cottage cheese and hangs over the edge of her desk like a waterfall.
Again, we see glances into Rachel s mind and how she envisions the dreadful sweater. The images
allow us to see into an eleven year old s thoughts and see how the situation looks from a child s eyes.
Telling it like it is, as Rachel seems to do quite often, she describes the smell as cottage cheese, a

Abbott Hospital Case
Organizational Change Issues
The acquisition and post acquisition period for Mt. Mercy Hospital/Sister Mary Theresa s purchase of
Abbott Hospital experienced several organizational change issues. Within Dr. Belasen s corporate
communications model CVFCC, several quadrants became compromised. During the acquisition
period, conflict arose within the realm of Investor Relations and Government Relations. Conflict
continued to arise after the acquisition specifically within the quadrant of Employee Relations.
Part 1:
Government Relations: Sister Mary Theresa (along with other Mt. Mercy administrative members)
decided to pursue a satellite hospital as part of its long term strategic plan. MEDICO (which ... Show

These doctors were fearful that the Holy Roman Empire would take over the northwest section of
town. The public perception of Sister Mary Theresa and Mt. Mercy was clearly going to be a problem
in moving forward with the acquisition.
Part 2:
Employee Relations: As could have been projected by the public s negative perception, Sister Mary
Theresa s style of leadership was not well received by many employees at Abbott Hospital. Despite
warnings from Dr. John Coletti (Abbott administrator under MEDICO), Sister Mary Theresa
implanted her authoritative managerial style into the new satellite hospital. First, she requested all
Abbott staff members to be interviewed by Mt. Mercy personnel. They were given a three month
probationary period (at the end of which permanent appointment could be discussed). Also, both staffs
were informed they could be transferred between hospitals at administrative discretion. Sister Mary
Theresa stuck to her bureaucratic plan causing Dr. John Coletti to resign.
The early results: Revenues from Abbott hospital ran about 15 20 percent below projected levels.
Revenues from surgery/patient care days declined 62 percent. Employee morale was down and the
many regional doctors were beginning to send patients in another direction for hospital care.

Gender Issues Within The Society Essay
Gender issues in society have incited growing debates and an analyzing or in a sense a calling out of
of writers, books, movies, celebrities, historical figures on their views. It is really not a surprise that
C.S. Lewis being a popular figure back in time has found his work under scrutiny over his views and
writing off women. It is quite easy to dismiss his views as being a product of that time and therefore
dismissing any claims on labeling him .To some it is not so easy to simply dismiss him as a product of
his time, acquiring him different labels. Lewis because of his beliefs and writing has been too labelled
as either a misogynist or a sexist. These two labels while from the same grouping there is a distinction
between the two. An argument can arise from this, which is was Lewis merely a sexist or was he a
misogynist based on his writings and beliefs?
Sexism is usually defined as a discrimination based on gender (in this case women), while misogyny
comes from two Greek words, misein , to hate, and gyne woman. Sexism is reflected views of socially
constructed views of gender like girls cannot be leaders. Misogyny, on the other hand, isn t merely a
strong version of sexism it is a feeling of contempt or anger one can express at women for challenging
the norms of what women should look and act like. As pointed out before different scholars saw his
work from this view. In the Daughters of Lilith text, the author represents a view that shows Lewis to

Annotation Reflection
Over the course of the year, I have annotated countless short stories, articles, reviews, and novels.
Coming into the class in September, I had little to no knowledge of the numerous intricacies that
contribute to effectively annotating a piece of written work. Over time, I have learned much more
about how I like to read and write. The constant repetition of annotating articles has helped me to
improve the quality of said annotations, to a point today where I can say I have found the best
personal method for annotating so far. This did not come instantly, and was a learning process led by
various assignments, essential questions, and complex articles. The first phase of my annotations
experience can be characterized simply as unorganized. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
American Civilization by Ralph Waldo Emerson is not only a revolutionary manifesto for its ideas, but
was also revolutionary for my annotations. I experimented with a new method that addressed the
problems identified in the past, and it worked wonderfully. I gave a short summary of every paragraph
in the margins, mainly focusing on the essential questions of the unit as well as trying to interpret the
meaning of the article. To my surprise, this was extraordinarily helpful the next day when we
discussed the article, because not only did it give me a detailed road map of the article, it also forced
me to closely read each paragraph for its basic meaning and connection to the essential questions.
While I had found the method I liked, I needed to address the problems of actually annotating too
much. I annotated too many phrases and summarizing every paragraph was frankly unnecessary. In
my annotations of On The Duty of Civil Disobedience by Henry David Thoreau, I employed the same
strategies that were used in American Civilization, except I amended the problems. My annotating is
much more selective, and as a result, the more important phrases stand out. Also, the short summaries
of paragraphs are not on every single one. Only the paragraphs that warrant an explanation are
summarized and explained in order to keep my annotations concise. The two or three most important
paragraphs on each page were chosen to be summarized and explained in regard to the essential
questions. They make logical sense out of context, and I can flip to any page in the article and be able
to explain what it is generally about. This fulfills what I am looking for in my annotations; a way to
provoke me to think deeper as I am reading as well as an efficient method of referencing the article
after it has been read. This can help me to better

Corporate Governance is viewed as ethics and a moral duty. Corporate governance has been a highly
discussed issue in the United States and Europe over the last decade. In India, these issues came into
force in the last couple of years. The corporate governance code was modeled on the lines of the
Cadbury Committee (1992) in the United Kingdom. On account of the interest generated by Cadbury
Committee Report, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), the Associated Chambers of
Commerce and Industry (ASSOCHAM) and the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI)
constituted Committees to recommend initiatives in Corporate Governance. In the Indian context, the
need for corporate governance has been highlighted because of the scams occurring frequently since
the emergence of the concept of liberalization from 1991 such as the Harshad Mehta Scam, Ketan
Parikh Scam, UTI Scam, Vanishing Company Scam, Bhansali Scam and so on. In the Indian corporate
scene, there is a need to induct global standards so that at least while the scope for scams may still
exist, it can be at least reduced to the minimum. OBJECTIVES AND RESERACH METHODOLOGY

Differences Between An Imperative Programming Language And...
Describe the differences between an imperative programming language and a non imperative
programming language. Imperative languages are based on the sequential execution of instructions
that direct the computer system what steps to take in order to come up with a solution to a problem.
This is achieved by the programmer setting states, such as assigning data to memory, altering states,
and controlling the sequence of instructions (University of the People, n.d.). In order to achieve this,
the programmer must have a complete plan of the process the computer will use achieve a solution.
Issues that can arise with imperative languages are side effects caused by the status of states being
altered in some unintentional fashion because the computer is executing the instructions, as outlined,
by the programmer. In non imperative languages, the necessity of controlling the sequence of
execution is less important. Attention in the language is instead focused on what data is needed, what
the problem is, and what result output you are looking for. The programmer needs to be able to define
the problem and result for which they are seeking a solution, but the computer decides, based on built
in functions of the language, how to return the solution to the problem. As no states are altered as part
of non imperative languages programs, there are no issues with side effects (University of the People,
n.d.). Discuss an example of where you would use an imperative language and a situation

Can this even be called a hobby? Was I being passionate about my passion? I decided to convert this

presence of blood pigments. Oxygen can preferentially bind with these pigments; hence solubility of
oxygen in blood is very higher than that of water. But in Antarctic fish blood does not contain blood
pigments (haemoglobin). This is because of the low Antarctic temperature. Due to the low
temperature, oxygen can highly dissolve in water than in tropical countries. That is why Antarctic fish
blood does not contain blood pigments. This is an exceptional case. However in the evolutionary
history, after they evolve blood with blood pigments as the oxygen transportation medium, they have
faced another problem. Blood pigments are large molecules. Presence of large molecules in blood
causes the production of high osmotic pressure. To overcome this problem, higher animals have
shifted blood pigments into cells. In humans and other vertebrates, these cells are known as red blood
cells (RBC). Above is a little description of how animals evolved blood pigments or dioxygen

The Conservation Of Marine Conservation
Marine conservation was traditionally focusing on resolving the common issue where commercial
activities exploiting shared resources yielded private benefits of employment, economic benefits as
well as increased harvests. In this process, resources were over used (Bulte, et al, p.20). Therefore, a
need rose to conserve the common marine resources to yield public goods of biodiversity and
ecosystem services that are not taken into consideration by the marine policies. Unless the public
goods nature of marine resources is addressed by the marine policies, provision, as well as
conservation of biodiversity and ecosystem services will be a dream to achieve, even if other policies
like catch shares and top down command measures are put in place (Arriagada and Charles, p.804).
This discussion will focus on the various incentives for marine biodiversity conservation within the
typical public good structure.
Public goods are considered as impure when their consumption by an individual lessens but do not
eradicate the advantages received by other people from the intake of similar products. It implies that
the goods are partially rival as well as partially excludable. Local public goods are the commonly
known forms of impure public goods, specifically the local common pool resources (Arriagada and
Charles, p.801). On a global scale, biodiversity conservation is a good example of an impure public
good. This is because, if there are numerous potential providers, each will improve local

How Companies Are Managing The Foreign Exchange Risk...
1. Executive Summary
This paper discusses how companies are managing the foreign exchange risk through the use currency
options. For instance, some companies who didn t not take risk management seriously had resulted in
inefficient use of capital, increased liabilities, and reputation risk. Moreover, a lack of certainty can
cause confusion as to what a company s acceptance of risk is, such as a level of acceptance. Without
risk management, a company can become overconfident in its methods, which could lead to a
financial crisis. The failure to objectively take risks leads to bad results like a company taking
inappropriate risks not in the best long term interests of the firm. Furthermore, poor risk management
in finance could amount to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to minimise the effect of the potential losses due to foreign currency exchange rate, it
essential to understand the use of financial instrument.
Foreign exchange risk consists of three main types of exposures. First, transaction exposure is when a
firm has a contractual obligation under which it supposed to receive or pay a certain amount in a
currency that is different than its home currency. Transaction exposure has an effect of the firm s
income statement because the accounts payables or receivables can be affected by currency exchange
rates. Second foreign exchange exposure is the translation which impacts the balance sheet of the firm.
It occurs when consolidating financial statements of foreign units into a company s home currency.
The third type of foreign exchange exposure is the economic which influences a firm s cash flows
when exchange rates change. This type of exposure can impact assets, liabilities, or any type of
anticipated foreign currency cash exchange.
The starting point of any foreign exchange risk management plan is to identify the exchange exposure
faced. In controlling the foreign exchange risk, currency options have attained acceptance as very
helpful tools due to their exclusive nature. They are very critical and convey a much wider range of
hedging alternatives. Call options provide the right to the buyer to purchase the

Essay On Military Censorship
Censorship during times of war has been explained countless times both in favor and in opposition to
the idea. A government s job is to protect individuals and military when countries are fighting amongst
one another, but the reality of what is happening is not always broadcasted to the general public.
Justification for censorship during times of war cannot be found with the fact of public trust, privacy,
and emotional distress being neglected with lack of information and withholding personal dedications
to loved ones at home. Shielding a community from the harsh matter of death and grief happening on

purchasing power basis and 22rd in nominal terms in 2016. Its economy is well developed and it s
growing at a stable rate. Since 1992, Taiwan s GDP growth has an average 4.5%. Its GDP per capita
raised from $9,116 in 1992 to $19,762 in 2012. Taiwan has experienced rapid expansion in
international trade. In 1992, Taiwan s total trade was over $180 billion and represented 82% of GDP.
In 2012, Taiwan s trade was over $650 billion and represented 140% of GDP. In 2012, over 77% of
Taiwan imports were of agricultural goods and raw materials due to limited arable land and natural
resources. While only around 1% of exports were from agricultural goods, the rest 99% of exports

Essay On Petrarrchan Sonnet
Originally an Italian import, sonnet has become the most popular, almost the regular figure in English.
It originated in Sicily in the 13th Century with Giacomo da Lentino (1188 1240), a lawyer. The poetic
traditions of the Provençal region of France apparently influenced him, but he wrote his poems in the
Sicilian dialect. Some authorities credit another Italian, Guittone d Arezzo (1230 1294), with
originating the sonnet. The English word sonnet comes from the Italian word sonetto, meaning little
song. Some early sonnets were set to music, with accompaniment provided by a lute. The sonnet is the

He enlarged the function of the sonnet to political and moral criticism and this has been followed by
later poets. Finally the sonnet came to be used for any subject which a short, concentrated lyric would
afford to evolve. Hence, we have Wordsworth s Composed Upon Westminister Bridge , Keat s On
First Looking into Chapman s Homer , Shelley s England in 1819 , Elizabeth Barrett Browning s
Sonnets from the Portuguese and so many memorable sonnets by so many famous poets. Longfellow,
Jones Very, G. H. Boker, and E. A. Robinson are generally appreciated for writing some of the best
sonnets in America. William Ellery Leonard, Elinor Wylie, Edna St. Vincent Millay, and W. H. Auden
have done distinguished work in the sonnet and the sonnet sequence in this century.Already, the
sonnet form has taken a unique position in the literary field. But the question inevitably comes is that
why has it proved so popular? Perhaps ,though minute in extent, it has immense elasticity: it can have
room for story elements; it can stage a brief dramatic scene; it can present a series of philosophical
reflections; it can survey a vast variety of reflections, understandings and moods within a tightly

Still, the question which burns in everyone s mind is can such policy be maintained pro futuro and what is the trade off of such continuing policy for the EU Member States? The absolute monarchy was the apex of the pyramid of power and influence. Although the monarch claimed complete autocratic authority by virtue of blood, the monarchy was only fully secured by the presence of a supportive aristocracy and a stable, established church. This was a tripartite; the monarch, the aristocrat, and the church. Absolute monarchy is best exemplified in the reign of Louis XIV of France. Using the French as an example, and on the basis of the tripartite, one can begin to understand what led to the fall of absolute monarchy. • 11. Struggles Of A Black Man Struggles Of a Black Man Ballad of the Landlord is a poem by Langston Hughes that shows the struggles of a black man in a white society. There are opposing forces that make this black man suffer and he gets no retribution or any justice for the things that the people accuse him of. Through each of these voices the poem is thoroughly explained and can be analysed in such a way. The forces in this poem is the tenant, landlord, police, and the press. Each one of these forces shows the racial struggles of an innocent black man. The main person in the poem is the tenant, which in the last line tells us, he is black. The tenant is characterized by his slang and his strong dislike for the landlord. The tenant uses slang, contracted words, and nonstandard grammar. This non formal way of English suggests the tenant s separation from the world of convention, represented by the formal way of the police and the press, which appear later in the poem. Although the tenant speaks in a non formal way, do not let that fool you. The tenant s reason to be mad at the landlord is reasonable and just. He begins with a reasonable complaint and a gentle reminder that the complaint is already a week old: My roof has sprung a leak. / Don t you member I told you about it / Way last week? (lines 2 4). Throughout the whole speech, he establishes his credibility to a predominantly white audience to make his point stand out for the changes he believes are necessary. Booker T. Washington delivers the 1895 Atlanta Compromise Speech to a white and black audience about the equality blacks and whites deserve. As a black speaker in the north, Washington influences and impresses many of the northern citizens with his moving speech. Washington brought with him ...evidence of racial progress in the South . His audience contained the president and the board of directors as well as citizens. In the beginning, Washington uses vivid imagery through his ideas. He begins his speech with strong statistics, One third of the population of the South is of the Negro race. No enterprise seeking the material, civil, or moral welfare of this section can disregard this element of our population and reach the highest success, (Washington 1). Using logos in this speech shows his strong points to his audience revealing a realistic view of what is going on around them, and represent the kind of power the black population actually has. Washington also applies ethos in his opening statements by establishing his credibility and aspirations. American Negro been more fittingly and generously recognized than by the managers of this magnificent Exposition at every stage of its progress. It is a recognition that will do more to cement the friendship of the two races than any occurrence since the dawn of our freedom, (Washington 1). Characterization of Rachel Through the Use of Literary Techniques in Cisneros Eleven Sandra Cisneros writes a memoir through the eyes of an eleven year old. Turning eleven happens to be a tragic day for the main character, Rachel. Through various literary techniques such as hyperbole, simile, and syntax, Rachel is characterized. Rachel is a fresh turning eleven year old who finds herself in an awful situation on her birthday. Forced to wear a raggedy old sweater that doesn t belong to her, she makes it defiantly clear her feelings towards the clothing item, and we see this through use of hyperboles. This inner defiance gives evidence to Rachel s determination and individuality. The sweater now represents a sort of barrier and if she submits herself to it, she fears the world of ages and maturity. The inner battle continues through use of similes and syntax patterns. Cisneros brilliantly weaves a series of vivid metaphors that of an eleven year old to further portray Rachel s character. Today I wish I didn t have only eleven years rattling inside me like pennies in a tin band aid box. This simile characterizes Rachel as not only a child but also portrays her desire to be older. The image evokes a childish habit of collecting pennies in a tin box, a juvenile form of a most precious piggy bank. But in addition to labeling Rachel s age, it also hints at her feelings of wanting out. Rachel feels trapped by her ripe young age of eleven because she feels as if she doesn t have the years behind her to justify her non acceptance of the sweater. Afraid to say no and stand up for herself, Rachel unwillingly has to take the sweater, which smells like cottage cheese and hangs over the edge of her desk like a waterfall. Again, we see glances into Rachel s mind and how she envisions the dreadful sweater. The images allow us to see into an eleven year old s thoughts and see how the situation looks from a child s eyes. It is quite easy to dismiss his views as being a product of that time and therefore dismissing any claims on labeling him .To some it is not so easy to simply dismiss him as a product of his time, acquiring him different labels. American Civilization by Ralph Waldo Emerson is not only a revolutionary manifesto for its ideas, but was also revolutionary for my annotations. I experimented with a new method that addressed the problems identified in the past, and it worked wonderfully. I gave a short summary of every paragraph in the margins, mainly focusing on the essential questions of the unit as well as trying to interpret the meaning of the article. To my surprise, this was extraordinarily helpful the next day when we discussed the article, because not only did it give me a detailed road map of the article, it also forced me to closely read each paragraph for its basic meaning and connection to the essential questions. While I had found the method I liked, I needed to address the problems of actually annotating too much. I annotated too many phrases and summarizing every paragraph was frankly unnecessary. In my annotations of On The Duty of Civil Disobedience by Henry David Thoreau, I employed the same strategies that were used in American Civilization, except I amended the problems. My annotating is much more selective, and as a result, the more important phrases stand out. Also, the short summaries of paragraphs are not on every single one. • 26. Differences Between An Imperative Programming Language And... Describe the differences between an imperative programming language and a non imperative programming language. Imperative languages are based on the sequential execution of instructions that direct the computer system what steps to take in order to come up with a solution to a problem. This is achieved by the programmer setting states, such as assigning data to memory, altering states, and controlling the sequence of instructions (University of the People, n.d.). In order to achieve this, the programmer must have a complete plan of the process the computer will use achieve a solution. Issues that can arise with imperative languages are side effects caused by the status of states being altered in some unintentional fashion because the computer is executing the instructions, as outlined, by the programmer. In non imperative languages, the necessity of controlling the sequence of execution is less important. Attention in the language is instead focused on what data is needed, what the problem is, and what result output you are looking for. The programmer needs to be able to define the problem and result for which they are seeking a solution, but the computer decides, based on built in functions of the language, how to return the solution to the problem. As no states are altered as part of non imperative languages programs, there are no issues with side effects (University of the People, n.d.). Oxygen can preferentially bind with these pigments; hence solubility of oxygen in blood is very higher than that of water. But in Antarctic fish blood does not contain blood pigments (haemoglobin). This is because of the low Antarctic temperature. Due to the low temperature, oxygen can highly dissolve in water than in tropical countries. That is why Antarctic fish blood does not contain blood pigments. This is an exceptional case. However in the evolutionary history, after they evolve blood with blood pigments as the oxygen transportation medium, they have faced another problem. Blood pigments are large molecules. Presence of large molecules in blood causes the production of high osmotic pressure. To overcome this problem, higher animals have shifted blood pigments into cells. In humans and other vertebrates, these cells are known as red blood cells (RBC). Above is a little description of how animals evolved blood pigments or dioxygen transport and storage metallobiomolecules in the evolutionary history of life. In this chapter we will discuss about three dioxygen transport and storage molecules. 1. Haemoglobin: These are carried in

  • 35. The Conservation Of Marine Conservation Marine conservation was traditionally focusing on resolving the common issue where commercial activities exploiting shared resources yielded private benefits of employment, economic benefits as well as increased harvests. In this process, resources were over used (Bulte, et al, p.20). Therefore, a need rose to conserve the common marine resources to yield public goods of biodiversity and ecosystem services that are not taken into consideration by the marine policies. Unless the public goods nature of marine resources is addressed by the marine policies, provision, as well as conservation of biodiversity and ecosystem services will be a dream to achieve, even if other policies like catch shares and top down command measures are put in place (Arriagada and Charles, p.804). This discussion will focus on the various incentives for marine biodiversity conservation within the typical public good structure. Public goods are considered as impure when their consumption by an individual lessens but do not eradicate the advantages received by other people from the intake of similar products. It implies that the goods are partially rival as well as partially excludable. Local public goods are the commonly known forms of impure public goods, specifically the local common pool resources (Arriagada and Charles, p.801). On a global scale, biodiversity conservation is a good example of an impure public good. This is because, if there are numerous potential providers, each will improve local ... For instance, some companies who didn t not take risk management seriously had resulted in inefficient use of capital, increased liabilities, and reputation risk. Moreover, a lack of certainty can cause confusion as to what a company s acceptance of risk is, such as a level of acceptance. Without risk management, a company can become overconfident in its methods, which could lead to a financial crisis. A government s job is to protect individuals and military when countries are fighting amongst one another, but the reality of what is happening is not always broadcasted to the general public. Justification for censorship during times of war cannot be found with the fact of public trust, privacy, and emotional distress being neglected with lack of information and withholding personal dedications to loved ones at home. • 40. Essay On Petrarrchan Sonnet Originally an Italian import, sonnet has become the most popular, almost the regular figure in English. It originated in Sicily in the 13th Century with Giacomo da Lentino (1188 1240), a lawyer. The poetic traditions of the Provençal region of France apparently influenced him, but he wrote his poems in the Sicilian dialect. Some authorities credit another Italian, Guittone d Arezzo (1230 1294), with originating the sonnet. The English word sonnet comes from the Italian word sonetto, meaning little song.
