How Did Greek Architecture Influence Roman Architecture
Roman Architecture
The Greek and Roman empires existed during the same time, which was about 2500 years ago. They
were practically neighbors with Rome developing in Italy and the Greeks in Greece. The the Romans
learned about Greek culture when Greek colonies established towns in southern Italy. The Romans
were influenced by Greek writing, art, religion, and architecture. Greek architecture had an influence
on the development of Ancient Rome because the Romans used Greek materials, Greek designs and
the Romans built similar structures. First,Greek architecture did influence on the development of
Ancient Rome because they used Greek materials such as concrete, lime mortar, and stone. Like the
Greeks, the Romans built enormous structures and concrete was able to support greater weights. The
lime mortar was used to make the concrete and this made the concrete stronger.( Roman Architecture.
) Stone was a natural resource to use in their building because it was strong and it was easily available.

Aqueducts were used to move water from rivers into the cities ( Aqueduct. ). The Romans needed to
get water into the cities to grow food like fruit and nut trees. They built aqueducts like the Greeks had
to get water into the cities. The arch was an architectural design that was used to span large openings.
It could also support great loads from above ( Arch. ). The Romans used the arch in the designs of
large and fancy temples and vaults ( Rome, Ancient. ). Greek temples also influenced the building of
Roman temples. The temples in Rome were four sided building like those in Greek, but they were
surrounded by columns with a covered walkway. The Roman temples were more extravagant and

B 2 Spirit Stealth Crafting Case Study
The B 2 Spirit Stealth bomber was architected in the height of the Cold War with the intended aim to
be able to respond to any Soviet Union attack with force within hours of being attacked. The B 2
program at the time was a massive undertaking by the United States and the many defense contractors
that were involved in the process to get them delivered to the air force and ready for combat. The B 2
bomber was unique in its use of a flying wing design with the use of the new and evolving stealth
technology that was a new field for the time. The intent of employing stealth technology was to permit
the aircraft to go undetected by the enemy combatant during its missions. A large portion of
implementing stealth technology focused on reducing the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The emergent need for a stealth bomber did not come to fruition until the Yom Kipper War in October
1973. Israeli aircraft were detected by Soviet Union radars and shot down at an high rates by Soviet
surface to air and air to air missiles.[1,28] Many of these fighter jets were similar to those that the
United States were using which alarmed the air force. The following year in 1974 the Defense
Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) funded research into the needed radar cross section
that aircraft would need in order to survive the Soviet Union radar threat. [1,28] Lockheed, Northrop
and McDonnell Douglas were interested in this research and pursued the DARPA opportunity.[1,28]
DARPA began an additional study the Experimental Survivability Testbed (XST) in 1975 where the
goal was to mount aircraft conceptual models on poles at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico
to conduct testing on low radar cross section (RCS) conceptual designs.[1,28 29] These conceptual
designs would help Northrop, Lockheed and Defense Department engineers better understand RCS
reduction.

Abstract This paper proposes direct torque control of induction motor simulation using conventional
method and space vector pulse width modulation technique for ripple reduction. Direct Torque Control
is a control technique used in AC drive systems to obtain high performance torque control and thereby
controlling the speed of induction motor. The principle is based on simultaneous decoupling of stator
flux and electromagnetic torque of AC drive system. DTC drives use hysteresis comparators and they
suffer from high torque ripple and variable switching frequency problem. The proposed SVM based
DTC reduces torque ripples. The basis of the SVM DTC methodology is the calculation of the
required voltage space vector to compensate the flux and torque errors and its generation using the
SVM at each sample period. The performance of this method is demonstrated by simulation using
MATLAB/Simulink software. Simulation results presented in this paper show the torque, flux linkage
and stator current ripple decreases with the proposed SVM DTC algorithm. Keywords: Direct Torque

Sham Acupuncture Study
The study by Ma et al., (2006) examined the treatment methods of physical therapy, acupuncture, and
a combination of physical therapy and acupuncture to see which treatment method was more
beneficial in patients with spontaneous frozen shoulder over a four week period (Ma et al., 2006). The
study consisted of 75 participants with spontaneous frozen shoulder pain for at least three months,
unable to lift their arm more than 135 degrees, and agreed to proceed with the medical treatments that
were designed for this study (Ma et al., 2006). Thirty participants were randomly selected into the

osteoarthritis of the knee. The participants were randomly selected to one of the three groups:
conservative therapy, traditional Chinese acupuncture, or sham acupuncture. Each group received six
physiotherapy visits as well as their specific interventioin treatment (Scharf et al., 2006). The
conservative treatment group contained 316 participants who received ten consultation visits to the
practioners and given diclofenac or rofecoxibe as needed (Scharf et al., 2006). Throughout six weeks
the TCA and sham acupuncture group received ten acupunture treatments both using the identical type
of acupuncture needles. Diclofenac was also given to the particpants of the TCA and sham
acupuncture group if their pain was not at a level of comfort. There were 326 particpants in the TCA
group and 365 in the sham acupuncture group (Scharf et al., 2006). At the 13th and 26th week the
Western Ontario and McMaster University Ostoarthririts Index (WOMAC) assessed pain and
function. According to the WOMAC results, pain and function in the TCA and sham acupuncture
group were more effective than conservative treatment (Scharf et al., 2006). The TCA and sham

Harvard Business School Invented The Concept And Believed
Harvard Business School invented the concept and believed that competitive advantage cannot be
understood by looking at a firm as a whole. The disadvantages of a value chain could include a
company becoming too segmented and result in a construed conception of the company s most
important values. Thus, the importance of a successful value chain lies within the linkage of the
different processes it incorporates. All in all, the value chain can provide organizations a strategic
framework for managing the hundreds of activities that go into making the final product. Schott is a

Although Schott is has been successful throughout the life of the company, it surely is not thriving.
The annual bottom lines of the company continuously fluctuate and significant improvements have
been hard to achieve without significant changes to specific processes respective to each facility. Like
that of any large organization, company wide policies make opportunities for change extremely
difficult for any specific department or process. As Porter noted, competitive advantage cannot be
understood by looking at the firm as a whole and Schott has yet to fully adopt this logic. Much like a
waterfall effect, decisions and orders are trickled down throughout the organization based on an
employee s position of power. The company has incorporated a system that rewards diligence opposed
to innovative thinking which can lead to a very limited approach to reaching new achievements for the
company overall. Schott cannot make significant improvements by incorporating broad changes
throughout the organization. Each department within each facility needs to be treated more as a
separate, individual entity that can utilize its respective strengths. Schott s North American facility has
a completely different culture and structure compared to that of the main headquarters in Germany, so

Defining The Impact On The Modern Army Today

Understanding and defining the impact on the modern Army today by the 442nd Infantry Regiment
during WWII, is evident by their unique formation that stood out amongst organizations during that
period. While trying to compare the differences in social acceptance from a unit composed almost
entirely of Soldiers of Japanese ancestry, you must first understand the period in which this unit left its
legacy. During one of the most controversial times in the history of diplomatic relations, Japan
attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 without any formal announcement of war. Although the
transmissions from Japan were decoded, the actual declaration of war did not reach the United States
until the following day. Unknown to many Americans that the so called peace talks were already
nearing the end of negotiations, Americans lost trust in the Japanese Americans and immediately
labeled them traitors and rejected them from their communities; this was primarily so on the west
coast. The repercussions of this event in the United States were immediate. According to the Library
of Congress, within a three year period, thousands of Japanese Americans regardless of their
citizenship were required to abandon their homes and businesses and move to isolated war relocation
and internment camps run by the United States government. President Roosevelt signed and issued

Globalisation and Government Regulation in Uk
Introduction ‘Think global , ‘Act local is a common phrase used by executives, companies in the
UK have been heavily impacted by globalisation due to the benefits of attractive cheap labour
available overseas, establish subsidiaries to overcome exportation, producing globally standardised
products to achieve economies of scale and gaining a market share in local/region of a country. This is
the age of globalisation, a term which has numerous definition (Dunning, 1997), but generally refers
to a process of tighter international linkages on a world wide scale (De Wit and Meyer, 1998). On the
other hand, UK has also become a major host country for foreign multinational investment. Corporate
interests shed light on market share hold ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Traditional manufacturing countries mainly situated in the South east Asia and Eastern Europe have
gained corporate interests in attractive cheap labour (Meffert and Bloch, 1991). The loss of jobs
contributes to the already worsening problem of unemployment and harms regional economy. A BBC
report (Davis, 2003) shows that Factory production fell by 4% in 2002, the largest annual slump since
1991 Corporate Insolvencies has occurred because companies are unable to keep up with global
integration. MG Rover went into administration on April 8, with the loss of over 5,000 jobs (Harwood,
2005) Similar threats are also emitted from the service industry where there seems to be a trend
towards outsourcing services to low labour cost countries e.g. call centres to India. Such business
voyage is encouraging as BT s turnover increased by 11 percent in 2002 (Turner and Gardiner, 2007).
Again the argument is about job loss; in addition, the pressure to out source may cause businesses to
drive down ‘real pay levels in order to compete more effectively (Blackwood, 2006). On the other
hand, foreign investments have also created jobs in the UK. The amount of opportunities created
depends on • Direct jobs: size of the foreign owned industry and the intensity of its production
process. • In direct jobs: referring to the connections with local suppliers and their reputation. The

Language In English Language
Although human beings can learn a lot about language from reading books and studying grammatical
conventions, purely analysing or studying a language as an object will not allow a person to submerge
themselves in the true social process and complexity of the language. Grudgeon and Gardner (2000)
use the analogy of language as a fish; the fish, itself is an organism to be studied, but its true marvel
becomes apparent when it swims. The fish represents the written, structured conventional form of
language, whereas human beings add another element as they shape and morph language to suit their
social environment, representing the fish in motion. A person learning English as a second language
may excel in a structured classroom environment, only to find themselves confused in a real world
environment when fluent English speakers converse dynamically using slang, sarcasm, jokes and
inferred meanings. Children predominantly learn to speak from social imitation and interaction (Gee
Hayes, 2011). Inferred meanings or social semiotics are learnt through exposure and interaction,
similar to learning the different meanings of the traffic lights from repeated experience, until it
becomes instinctive to stop at a red light. Eventually, people react to the use of language
subconsciously as opposed to literally interpreting what the speaker is saying. Different dialects and
formalities also add complexity to understanding the use of language. A dialect is a variation of a
language used

Tribal People In India
INTRODUCTION: WHO ARE TRIBALS?
Tribal people are defined as those who have followed ways of life for many generations that are
largely self sufficient, and are clearly different from the mainstream and dominant society .
Constitution of India has not defined the word tribe but Article 366(25) of the Constitution of India
refers to the Scheduled Tribes as the tribes or tribal communities or the parts of or groups within such
tribes or tribal communities which the Indian President may specify by public notification under
Article 342(1) . The word tribe means different for different person. For a layman it simply means
simple folk living in forest and hills, for others who know little about tribals consider them as
colourful people famous for their dance and song, for an administrator tribal word signifies a group of
citizens whose welfare is the social responsibility of the President of India and for an anthropologist it
means a special field for study of a social phenomena.
The Scheduled Areas and Scheduled Tribes Commission appointed by the President of India on 28
April 1960 pursuant to Article 339 of the Constitution of India in its report of 14 October 1961 stated
that As these groups are presumed to form the oldest ethnological sector of the population, the term
Adivasi which means original inhabitant has become current among certain people. The International

Bronfenbrenner s Bioecological Model Analysis
The television drama known as Grey s Anatomy follows several doctors on their joint and individual
journeys from surgical interns to residents and then to attendings. The main character is Doctor
Meredith Grey, the daughter of famous heart surgeon Ellis Grey. Meredith s time on the show reveals
her constant struggle to reconcile her own abilities with her mother s legacy and explores how the past
continues to affect the present long after its conclusion. Bronfenbrenner s bioecological model
explores the relationship between a child s environment and that child s development. In his theory,
Urie Bronfenbrenner defines several layers that make up the overall system in which the child
functions. These layers are known as the Microsystem, Mesosystem, Exosystem, Macrosystem, and
Chronosystem. Each of these layers plays a role in influencing the development of the child as well as
each other and the child, in turn, has an impact on these layers. This process is referred to as a bi

Analysis Of Kay Redfield Jamison s An Unquiet Mind
The prologue of An Unquiet Mind by Kay Redfield Jamison opens with Kay running and is with a
colleague. She explains that as a child she had multiple mood changes and how she is trying to turn
her illness into a beautiful thing. In chapter 1, Kay is playing in the playground when a military jet
crashes into a row of trees. Her father shows signs of manic depression. Kay moves to California with
her family where she feels that she has been taken away to a different world. By the age of 17, she has
her first manic episode. In chapter 2 of Part 1, Kay attends UCLA. During one of her manic episodes,
she has an urge to buy Idylls of the King and buys a dozen books that are all related to it. Kay decides

Jamison attends a medical conference and a presentation is made about the discovery of watery
deposits in the brain tissue of manic depressives, which interests her. Jamison begins to ponder her
previous qualms about discussing her illness. She focus on the issues concerning her own
embarrassment, cruelty from her colleagues and friends, and protecting her own family members.
Jamison is grateful for a more balanced life. She is aware of the danger that the slightest mania may
turn into wild insanity that can lead to death. She feels herself a survivor. In the end, Kay poses the
hypothetical question whether or not she would choose to have manic depressive illness, if given the
choice. If lithium was not readily available to her she would say no, but if it was available she said
yes. In Part 4, the explanation of her feelings towards the term bipolar disorder changed my outlook
on the illness.. I understand her qualms about the term implying that there is a distinction between
depression and manic depressive illness. From now on I will refer to the term bipolar disorder as
manic depressive illness. The discovery of watery patches in manic depressives brain tissue was very
interesting. It was rational for Kay to be afraid to share her illness with the world, since it could
change the way people see her. Also, there are endless traumatic possibilities and it is scary to think
that so many disorders go unnoticed. The passages in the memoir flooded me with all kinds of
emotions. It was also interesting to read that she would not give up this illness after all the agony it

Generic Vs Brand Ativan Essay
Which is Better: Cheap Ativan (Generic) or Brand Ativan?

version will be very costly while the other kind of lorazepam is relatively cheaper. Should people stick
with the costlier brand name version of Ativan medication or choose the cheap version?
Brand vs. Generic
The original company to introduce lorazepam to the world intended the medication to act as a cure for
anxiety and other stress conceived problems. During the first few years of Ativan being on the market,
the original company, also known as the mother company, had exclusive rights to the FDA approved
drug. Since that company had incurred millions of dollars in expenses during the testing, researching,
and marketing of lorazepam, the price of the medication was very high. After the mother company s
patent rights had expired, a lot of other companies started to make their own version of Ativan. Since
the research and testing processes were already done by the mother company, the companies can

Essay On African Americans
The life of an African brought to the United States in the eighteenth century was not an easy one. They
were torn from their land of origin, stripped of all of their personal property, had their senses of
originality and individuality stolen from them and were then forced to work in brutal environments
where they were treated inhumanely. Yet still, many African (turned African Americans) were able to
find time to both keep their culture intact and advance themselves and their fellow people. Both Leslie
Alexander and Fredrick Douglass detail the tribulations African Americans went through in America
who attempted to hold onto their senses of self in a place where everything around them was meant to

They believed that death [was] merely another phase of the life cycle and through that belief remained
linked to African cosmological interpretations of life and death ( It is often argued that once Africans
were brought to America many of their traditional African beliefs were lost during the Seasoning
Process and that they had become accultured as a result (Alexander, 4). The Africans who would
partake in the burial practices in New York City were nothing of the sort. They still held onto several
of the seemingly superstitious ideals from their homeland. These ideals allowed them to be able to, in
a way, rebel against the system that tried to oppress them. It allowed for them to maintain a sense of
hope because they believed that in death, lied a way for them to return to Africa. During their burial
ceremonies, the New York African American population would often bury their loved ones with shells,
seashells to be exact. Seashells, come from the sea, as did the Africans who were brought here on
slave ships. So by their belief, they would be able to return to Africa in the afterlife when they were
buried with the seashells which would essentially mean that they were not bound to America in the
way those who brought them there would have thought they

In her Epistemic Injustice, Chapter 1, Fricker (2009), argues that there is a distinctively epistemic kind
of injustice , which she describes as an injustice that deals specifically with knowledge, hence the
name epistemic injustice . The word epistemic comes from the Greek epistēmikós, equivalent to
epistḗm(ē) knowledge + ikos ic, meaning of, or relating to knowledge ( Epistemic | Define Epistemic
at Dictionary.Com n.d.). I note that knowledge is, or should be, an important aspect of everyone s life.
This is because there is a distinctive difference between saying, I believe in contrast to I know, mostly
because there tends to be more credibility in the latter than in the former. The concept of knowledge
itself allows us to identify reliable sources. The main reason why scientists embrace skepticism is
because the use of sources, and peer review can have an impact on scientific research. Another
example is how a professor might require citing, because one needs to provide evidence supporting
any attributions of belief to the author (Chelstrom 2018, 3). I make this distinction because to know
something is to be treated as a reliable source of information about it and this relates to testimonial
injustice. In her book, Fricker discusses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the case of Tom, for example, he suffered for a crime he didn t commit, and although that is an
injustice, it is not necessarily a distinctively epistemic kind of injustice (Fricker 2009, 1). Fricker
might respond by saying that there is indeed a difference. When a person experiences a testimonial
injustice, he/she is being treated as an untrustworthy source of information, and thus, as if he/she can t
truly know things. Since, epistemic is having to do with knowledge, and the person is obstructed in
his/her claims to recognition as a subject of knowledge, it s a distinctively epistemic kind of injustice

The Importance Of Being Earnest And Oscar Wilde s The Man...
Never speak disrespectfully of Society, Algernon. Only people who can t get into it do that, Lady
Bracknell, the aunt of the frisky cast in The Importance of Being Earnest, warned. Ironically, Oscar
Wilde wrote this witty play in order to disrespect the Society of the late 19th century, and to point out
its many flaws. His boisterous characters romp about, causing trouble as they socialize in their upper
middle class world. He uses different Similarly, John Galsworthy s The Man of Property disrespects
and carps on the upper middle class world inhabited by the conceited Forsyte family living in the
Victorian Era. Oscar Wilde and John Galsworthy satirize the antiquated and superficial 19th century
attitudes of marriage for economic or social gain, of men s preferable position over women, and of the
superiority of the middle class in their respective works.
In the Victorian Era, marriage in the middle class functioned as another institute in which to acquire
property. The Man of Property provides plenty examples of this. Soames, the man of property himself,
considered his wife Irene as part of his property. He was continually frustrated when he did not own
her as it was his right to own her, that he could not, as by stretching out his hand to that rose, pluck her
and sniff the very secrets of her heart. (PAGE). Galsworthy satirized the belief of Soames, and his
class, by showing how greedy and selfish he sounds when depicting Victorian ideals of marriage. In

Recording Techniques for Pink Floyd s Dark Side of the Moon
Recording techniques for Pink Floyd s Dark Side of the Moon
The album The Dark Side of the Moon, by Pink Floyd was an album that pushed the boundaries on
multi tracking and tape looping, as well as mixing in1973. The engineer, Alan Parsons, use many
unusual techniques to help create the sound that we know and love. Which landed the album on the
charts for 750 weeks. Dark side of the moon was first lead engineering job Alan had with Pink Floyd
and only took a year to record.
To record this album an EMI console, a 16 track tape machine, a Fairchild limiters, and an EMT plate
reverb were used. There were also up to five or six tape machines doing various delays, reverb delays,
ect. at one time. Alan remembers on the mix having to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first song I will talk about is Speak to Me in the opening of the song there is a heartbeat this was
done with a heavy gated bass drum. Alan used Kepex noise gates, which were new technology at the
time. The band also thought it was a nice idea to have some speech throughout the record. So they
recorded people answering questions off a stack note cards. Then Alan placed the voices in later where
the band felt it appropriate. (Classic Albums: The Making of The Dark Side of the Moon)
The next song I will talk about Time . When recording this song many unique techniques were used
for the time. Alan suggested to the band the idea of using real clocks. He made stereo recordings in an
antique clock shop. Using a portable tape machine he record each clock one at a time. Then he put
them together on the multitrack tape by back timeing the quarter inch originals that he had and starting
that next one on time until they were all layer together. (Classic Albums: The Making of The Dark
Side of the Moon)
I think the clocks are a very important component to the song. It was surprising to me to find out that
it was Alan s suggestion. This just goes to show that the band trusted his creativity and engineering
skills.
The song opens with a heavily gated bass line, this was done live many times before the recording, but
it was the new gating technology that was mentioned earlier that allowed them to get the tick tock

Catholic Church In Brazil Essay
The Catholic Church in Brazil did fill in for the State in ways such as creating laws for people to
follow, giving states rights to marry and rest from laborer on Sundays and Holy days. Although they
filled in for the state in many ways they also were not a complete State because the Church allowed
slavery and forced religion on people.
According to Slavery and Church Doctrine: The Archbishop of Bahia Rules on Slave Evangelization
and Aspects of Their Treatment (1707), the Brazilian Catholic Churches forced the slaves into
Catholicism. As a result, Catholic churches established a few rules that the people would follow. For
example, the Catholic Church made it a must that the slaves worship and do not work on Holy Days
and Sundays, also known as the Sabbath. As Brazilian slaves were thought to be the most in need of
the Christian Doctrine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is an uncommon practice today because by ruling under religious laws not all of the rules for
people to follow may have been created in the best interest of every person under the Church s
governmental like rule. Also with a rule based on religious laws protesting any kind change in the law
would have been impossible for slaves with their already limited rights, attempting to modify any of
the laws already set by a religion would have been difficult to achieve. The Church was only very
unlike the state in the way that they did not stop slavery from happening. Many modern day states
have made it illegal to buy and sell slaves but the Brazilian Church did not do that for the slaves they
were evangelizing. Another arguable point that the Catholic Church in Brazil was not filling in for the
State is that they forced slaves to have a certain religion. While some States today do force their
citizens to affiliate themselves with a religion many governments have freedom of religion
contradictory to how the Catholic Church treated

How The Family Is Problematic From The Historical Perspective
Explain and discuss why the definition of the family is problematic from the historical perspective.
The family form I am going to be defining is the nuclear and with reference to the historical
perspective I will attempt to explain why this definition is problematic. Within this discussion I will
also explore whether the nuclear family is a natural family form or whether it is a socially constructed
one. According to Munice et al (1995; 10) the nuclear family is a small unit produced from the
conjugal heterosexual couple and their biological children. The nuclear family unit share a common
residence and are united by their ties of affection, common identity and support.
Historical research has shown that there have been many different family forms in the past that did not
necessarily fit the nuclear definition of the family. There are four main approaches to consider when
talking about the history of the family. These approaches help show the significant changes that have
occurred in the family . The four approaches are the: demographic, economic, sentiments and the legal
and institutional approaches. The demographic approach measures the statistical patterns of the family
. Statistics taken from parish records and censuses enable us to see how family households have
changed over time. The average household size has been relatively stable and stayed at 4.75 persons
per household between the sixteenth century and the end of the nineteenth century. These households

Gender Differences Between Work And Life
In Manage your work, manage your life, Groysberg and Abrahams use research and survey data to
show gender differences on how success is viewed. There were some similarities and obvious gender
differences in answers. On another note the article by Stewart Friedman, Work + home + community +
self, the main focus is on three key principles to focus on to be better at integration between work and
life. Each article s content can be a guide in career planning and to help with one s professional
development.
The article Manage your work, manage your life discusses the popular topic of work and life balance.
Interviews were conducted and researched with over 4,000 executives worldwide and 82 executives in
a leadership course over a five year course (Groysberg and Abrahams, 2014). They broke down and
compared men and women to determine how they defined what professional success means to them,
what personal success means and what their partners contribute (Groysberg and Abrahams, 2014). The
survey data showed some true gender differences on what each values more. A large number of
women define professional success by their individual achievement over everything else. Men on the
other hand define it by making a difference, next to working with a good team in a good environment
and respect from others (Groysberg and Abrahams, 2014). When asked what personal success meant
to men and women both chose rewarding relationships with family, people they love and community

Benefits Of Investing A Mutual Fund
!!!What Are Mutual Funds?
Before we go over when to buy and sell a mutual fund, let s discuss exactly what a mutual fund is. A
__mutual fund__ is simply a pool of money from different people like you; it is professionally
managed with the purpose of investing in different securities. The business or bank that manages a
mutual fund and attempt to produce income for investors is referred to as a __money manager__.
Since mutual funds are professionally managed, they are ideal for a person who has very little
knowledge of investing.
There are several advantages of investing in a mutual fund. The biggest advantage is the
diversification it offers. One mutual fund might invest in stocks of large companies and others may
invest in U.S. Treasury bills. Whatever the mutual fund offered by the bank is investing in, each
investor in the fund shares in the fund s gains or losses. It is important to remember that mutual funds
are not stocks, they are portfolios of things like stocks and bonds.
!!!Choosing A Mutual Fund
In business or even in life, the quality of management plays a direct role on the success of the venture.
The quality of management offered for a mutual fund is no different. In the investment world, mutual
funds are either actively managed or indexed. __Actively managed funds__ uses more human capital
to actively manage a fund s portfolio, they use expertise and research to determine what securities to
buy or sell. __Indexed funds__ are the opposite of active,

Little Women And The Civil War
Little Women and the Civil War.
The Civil War served as much more than the fight for civil economies and a struggle to end slavery.
What lied in the foreground of the civil war are images of unions and confederate soldiers rummaging
through forest of the American South and thoughts of slaves gaining their long sought freedom.
However most people do not consider the lingering backdrop of the war. That would be the effects the
war would have on the changing gender roles. The new gender roles formed during the civil war
before we can determine the gender roles in the socially crucial time in American History, first we
should define what is meant by gender . Context of gender is more than just physical being. Gender
can be considered more abstract. This being said gender should be considered a preconceived notion
about how each of the two sexes should act or interact. An identity is likely exemplified by this
following quote from the mid 1800 s. Their (the Grimke sisters ) antislavery speaking tour of the
North encountered bitter criticism and resistance from men who charged that they had overstepped the
boundaries of their appointed sphere. (Elizabeth)
In the decades before the civil war it was entirely common for society and women themselves to
assign a more subordinate role to women. Women cooked cleaned, nurtured and everything society
deemed fit. The civil war however shaped women up to be much more than that. The civil war was not
the first time we had seen women

Batman As An Anti Hero
It s not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me. Said by Bruce Wayne, explains how he
feels about what he does as Batman. His actions as Batman prove him as an anti hero. Christopher
Nolan portrays Batman as an antihero through isolation of the character, and a dim setting of the
movie. Throughout the movie, Bruce Wayne continues to distance himself from society as Batman.
While attending the hotel party Rachel confronts Bruce about doing more for the city. He tells her he
is now a better person but doesn t allow her to know he is Batman. Even the closest to him he chooses
not to let know what he is doing for the city. Next when in the warehouse with Jim Gordon they team
up together to stop Gotham from being cut off completely.

The Problem with Abstinence-Only
The Problem With Abstinence Only Long before the development of iconic male dominated American
culture, the ideals of a patriarchal society have been implemented within the foundations of multiple
civilizations, serving to dictate the actions of its individuals under the black and white confines of
social constructions like gender roles, gender binary, sex roles, and many other aspects of everyday
life that are still present at this very moment. One of the most crucial elements of contemporary
American society that these limiting patriarchal values have latched onto is the comprehensive sexual
education of its youth. Undoubtedly, those who need it most are almost always doomed to receive the

Rather than implementing these standard curriculum checkpoints as a reflection of social and
scientific research just like any fundamental education program should be, these eight points are
founded upon a values agenda invoked by radically conservative members of Congress with the
specific intent of applying these ideals using hetero normative, homophobic, and appallingly
misogynistic teaching methods. A 2004 investigation by the staff of the House Government Reform
Committee revealed that many abstinence based lessons contain false, misleading, or distorted
information , with instructors teaching things like pregnancy can result from touching another person s
genitals , women who have an abortion are more prone to suicide , and half of gay males in in the US
have tested positive for HIV (Henry A. Waxman). In addition to these falsifications, the curriculum
goals are worded in a way that would explicitly disallow any information of alternative contraception
methods except for the sole purpose of emphasizing their rates of failure while at the same time

The Narrative Structure Of The Afternoon ( 1942 )
The narrative structure in Meshes of the Afternoon (1942) is unique in that it uses abstract symbolism
to transfer all narrative information to the audience, forcing the audience to actively engage with the
narrative in order to piece together the plot and how it relates the story, if there is one being told at all.
Meshes is told with distinctive narrative structure that relies on different interpretations for one to
understand the purpose it serves as a work of cinema. The purpose of Meshes can be seen to represent,
embody, or exemplify possible ways of seeing and being in the world itself. The artisanal and avant
garde style of Meshes, with its unclear chronological sequencing coupled with its overt referencing to
a dream state, serves to explore the way in which director Maya Deren felt about her world, one she
allowed us to peer into through the lens of her camera. Meshes also relies on its aesthetics as its
primary form of language, with symbolic communication contributing to its poetic form. Meshes also
largely employs an expressive form of emphasis through its use of mis en scene, as the entire film can
be seen as the subconscious expression of Maya Deren s thoughts of her life, specifically of her
relationship with her husband Alexander Hammid. Meshes also uses a poetic form of emphasis in
terms of the style of its narrative, with each repetition of actions serving as a stanza for the film, which
unfolds in the form of a poem.
The visual form of the narrative is

How Did John Lennon Influence Pop Culture
John Lennon (1940 1980)
The 1980s started on a devastating note as John Lennon, who was a songwriter, singer, and co founder
of the Beatles, was assassinated in Manhattan, New York, by a psychotic fan named Mark David
Chapman. John Lennon s albums were very successful as it sought for peace. In his album Imagine ,
he said, Imagine all the people living life in peace. You may say I m a dreamer, but I m not the only
one. I hope someday you ll join us, and the world will be as one. ( John Lennon Imagine. ). His
albums helped people to overcome the terror that happened during the Vietnam War. The assassination

Michael Jackson, Madonna, Whitney Houston are examples of pop stars that were influenced by
MTV. The stars started to set trends and fans started to follow. The trends include, fashion, culture,
and language. Even though the MTV helped the pop stars to rise, there are also many other reasons
that the pop stars became a role model. Their talent, ability to take advantage of their fame and public
interest, and the company s ability to market, were the major elements of helping them to escalate to
fame ( The Music of the 1980s ).
MIDI (1983)
In the 1980s, many musical devices were introduced, such as, the MIDI, CD and CD players, and the
Walkman. Also, the 1980s was a period of rapid change of recording devices. MIDI, Musical
Instrument Digital Interface, was introduced in 1983. This device helped to combine and synchronize
different kinds of musical devices. Sequencing devices helped to make the music more rhythmic and
musical. Sequencing devices existed before 1980s, but the devices in the 1980s were much easier,
costless, and efficient. The MIDI shifted how the recordings were made in many different ways.
Usage of MIDI replaced the usage of traditional instruments with pre programmed electronic
instruments

War On Terror And Terrorism
War on Terror After the incident of September 11, 2001, War on Terror became a serious problem.
That attack made huge effects on U.S government and many other countries. Many innocent people
lost their lives because of those terrorists. No one knows if an incident like the one on September 11
will happen again, but we have to know that we are the primary target . According to Patrick Coaty s
War on Terror, the terrorism has been developed throughout history. So that people should know to
fight the war on terror, and be prepared from another attack like the one on September 11, 2001.
According to Coaty s War on Terror, terrorism can be divided in three different levels: individual,
state, and international environment. During the French revolution, terrorism was developed the first
time, and some groups of people gathered to clean the evils of monarchy. They want to overthrow the
weak government and establish a new one that can bring them a better life. After that, terrorism was
expanded to the Soviet, and it became the best tool for them to control people, including their lifestyle
and their own privacy. Under the Soviet s control, terrorism has been developed and spread to many
other countries around the world. Meanwhile, the Stalin s policies were applied to control German by
Adolf Hitler. Hitler killed all the people who helped him on his political career. Hitler and Nazi Party
control a major Nazi organization, the Schutzstaffel. This organization made many crimes

A Note on the Chernobyl Nuclear Disaster
The Chernobyl Nuclear Disaster: The Chernobyl Nuclear Disaster is an accident that took place at a
nuclear power plant in Ukraine in April 1986. The accident was because of a flawed Soviet reactor
design, severe mistakes by the plant operators, and direct result of Cold War isolation. As the resultant
steam explosion and fires emitted radioactive reactor core into the downwind and the Earth s
atmosphere, the accident was also attributed to the lack of any safety culture. The Chernobyl Nuclear
Disaster was a unique event because it s the only accident in commercial nuclear power history in
which radiation related losses took place. Nonetheless, the design of the reactor is exceptional and the
disaster of minimal relevance to other elements of the nuclear industry.
Background on the Disaster: The Chernobyl Nuclear Power plant consisted of four nuclear reactors
with each of them capable of producing 1 gigawatt of electric power. During the time when the
disaster took place, these four reactors were producing approximately 10 percent of the electricity
used in Ukraine. The construction of this power plant started in the 1970s with the first reactor
commissioned in 1977 and the fourth in 1983. At the time when the disaster happened, the other two
nuclear reactors were still under construction (West par, 4). In April 1986, the operating crew planned
to evaluate whether the turbines of the fourth reactor could produce adequate energy to maintain the
running of the coolant

They were practically neighbors with Rome developing in Italy and the Greeks in Greece. The the Romans learned about Greek culture when Greek colonies established towns in southern Italy. The Romans were influenced by Greek writing, art, religion, and architecture. Greek architecture had an influence on the development of Ancient Rome because the Romans used Greek materials, Greek designs and the Romans built similar structures. First,Greek architecture did influence on the development of Ancient Rome because they used Greek materials such as concrete, lime mortar, and stone. Like the Greeks, the Romans built enormous structures and concrete was able to support greater weights. B 2 Spirit Stealth Crafting Case Study The B 2 Spirit Stealth bomber was architected in the height of the Cold War with the intended aim to be able to respond to any Soviet Union attack with force within hours of being attacked. The B 2 program at the time was a massive undertaking by the United States and the many defense contractors that were involved in the process to get them delivered to the air force and ready for combat. The B 2 bomber was unique in its use of a flying wing design with the use of the new and evolving stealth technology that was a new field for the time. The intent of employing stealth technology was to permit the aircraft to go undetected by the enemy combatant during its missions. Israeli aircraft were detected by Soviet Union radars and shot down at an high rates by Soviet surface to air and air to air missiles.[1,28] Many of these fighter jets were similar to those that the United States were using which alarmed the air force. The following year in 1974 the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) funded research into the needed radar cross section that aircraft would need in order to survive the Soviet Union radar threat. [1,28] Lockheed, Northrop and McDonnell Douglas were interested in this research and pursued the DARPA opportunity.[1,28] DARPA began an additional study the Experimental Survivability Testbed (XST) in 1975 where the goal was to mount aircraft conceptual models on poles at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico to conduct testing on low radar cross section (RCS) conceptual designs.[1,28 29] These conceptual designs would help Northrop, Lockheed and Defense Department engineers better understand RCS reduction. ... Direct torque control of induction motor simulation using conventional method and space vector pulse width modulation Naveen chander PG Student Electrical Engineering NITTTR Chandigarh, India snl.naveen@gmail.com Dr. Lini Mathew Associate Professor Electrical Engineering NITTTR Chandigarh, India Dr. S. Chatterji Professor Head Electrical Engineering NITTTR Chandigarh, India Abstract This paper proposes direct torque control of induction motor simulation using conventional method and space vector pulse width modulation technique for ripple reduction. Direct Torque Control is a control technique used in AC drive systems to obtain high performance torque control and thereby controlling the speed of induction motor. The principle is based on simultaneous decoupling of stator flux and electromagnetic torque of AC drive system. DTC drives use hysteresis comparators and they suffer from high torque ripple and variable switching frequency problem. The proposed SVM based DTC reduces torque ripples. The basis of the SVM DTC methodology is the calculation of the required voltage space vector to compensate the flux and torque errors and its generation using the SVM at each sample period. The performance of this method is demonstrated by simulation using MATLAB/Simulink software. Simulation results presented in this paper show the torque, flux linkage and stator current ripple decreases with the proposed SVM DTC algorithm. Harvard Business School Invented The Concept And Believed Harvard Business School invented the concept and believed that competitive advantage cannot be understood by looking at a firm as a whole. The disadvantages of a value chain could include a company becoming too segmented and result in a construed conception of the company s most important values. Thus, the importance of a successful value chain lies within the linkage of the different processes it incorporates. As Porter noted, competitive advantage cannot be understood by looking at the firm as a whole and Schott has yet to fully adopt this logic. Much like a waterfall effect, decisions and orders are trickled down throughout the organization based on an employee s position of power. The company has incorporated a system that rewards diligence opposed to innovative thinking which can lead to a very limited approach to reaching new achievements for the company overall. Schott cannot make significant improvements by incorporating broad changes throughout the organization. While trying to compare the differences in social acceptance from a unit composed almost entirely of Soldiers of Japanese ancestry, you must first understand the period in which this unit left its legacy. During one of the most controversial times in the history of diplomatic relations, Japan attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 without any formal announcement of war. Although the transmissions from Japan were decoded, the actual declaration of war did not reach the United States until the following day. Unknown to many Americans that the so called peace talks were already nearing the end of negotiations, Americans lost trust in the Japanese Americans and immediately labeled them traitors and rejected them from their communities; this was primarily so on the west coast. The repercussions of this event in the United States were immediate. Traditional manufacturing countries mainly situated in the South east Asia and Eastern Europe have gained corporate interests in attractive cheap labour (Meffert and Bloch, 1991). The loss of jobs contributes to the already worsening problem of unemployment and harms regional economy. A BBC report (Davis, 2003) shows that Factory production fell by 4% in 2002, the largest annual slump since 1991 Corporate Insolvencies has occurred because companies are unable to keep up with global integration. MG Rover went into administration on April 8, with the loss of over 5,000 jobs (Harwood, 2005) Similar threats are also emitted from the service industry where there seems to be a trend towards outsourcing services to low labour cost countries e.g. call centres to India. Such business voyage is encouraging as BT s turnover increased by 11 percent in 2002 (Turner and Gardiner, 2007). • 11. Language In English Language Although human beings can learn a lot about language from reading books and studying grammatical conventions, purely analysing or studying a language as an object will not allow a person to submerge themselves in the true social process and complexity of the language. Grudgeon and Gardner (2000) use the analogy of language as a fish; the fish, itself is an organism to be studied, but its true marvel becomes apparent when it swims. The fish represents the written, structured conventional form of language, whereas human beings add another element as they shape and morph language to suit their social environment, representing the fish in motion. A person learning English as a second language may excel in a structured classroom environment, only to find themselves confused in a real world environment when fluent English speakers converse dynamically using slang, sarcasm, jokes and inferred meanings. Children predominantly learn to speak from social imitation and interaction (Gee Hayes, 2011). Inferred meanings or social semiotics are learnt through exposure and interaction, similar to learning the different meanings of the traffic lights from repeated experience, until it becomes instinctive to stop at a red light. Eventually, people react to the use of language subconsciously as opposed to literally interpreting what the speaker is saying. Different dialects and formalities also add complexity to understanding the use of language. A dialect is a variation of a language used ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They were torn from their land of origin, stripped of all of their personal property, had their senses of originality and individuality stolen from them and were then forced to work in brutal environments where they were treated inhumanely. Yet still, many African (turned African Americans) were able to find time to both keep their culture intact and advance themselves and their fellow people. Both Leslie Alexander and Fredrick Douglass detail the tribulations African Americans went through in America who attempted to hold onto their senses of self in a place where everything around them was meant to restrict that very ability and how they managed ... The Africans who would partake in the burial practices in New York City were nothing of the sort. They still held onto several of the seemingly superstitious ideals from their homeland. These ideals allowed them to be able to, in a way, rebel against the system that tried to oppress them. It allowed for them to maintain a sense of hope because they believed that in death, lied a way for them to return to Africa. During their burial ceremonies, the New York African American population would often bury their loved ones with shells, seashells to be exact. Seashells, come from the sea, as did the Africans who were brought here on slave ships. So by their belief, they would be able to return to Africa in the afterlife when they were buried with the seashells which would essentially mean that they were not bound to America in the way those who brought them there would have thought they ... • 20. Epistemic Injustice Greek Summary In her Epistemic Injustice, Chapter 1, Fricker (2009), argues that there is a distinctively epistemic kind of injustice , which she describes as an injustice that deals specifically with knowledge, hence the name epistemic injustice . The word epistemic comes from the Greek epistÄ“mikós, equivalent to epistḗm(Ä“) knowledge + ikos ic, meaning of, or relating to knowledge ( Epistemic | Define Epistemic at Dictionary.Com n.d.). I note that knowledge is, or should be, an important aspect of everyone s life. This is because there is a distinctive difference between saying, I believe in contrast to I know, mostly because there tends to be more credibility in the latter than in the former. The concept of knowledge itself allows us to identify reliable sources. The main reason why scientists embrace skepticism is because the use of sources, and peer review can have an impact on scientific research. Another example is how a professor might require citing, because one needs to provide evidence supporting any attributions of belief to the author (Chelstrom 2018, 3). I make this distinction because to know something is to be treated as a reliable source of information about it and this relates to testimonial injustice. In her book, Fricker discusses ... When a person experiences a testimonial injustice, he/she is being treated as an untrustworthy source of information, and thus, as if he/she can t truly know things. Since, epistemic is having to do with knowledge, and the person is obstructed in his/her claims to recognition as a subject of knowledge, it s a distinctively epistemic kind of injustice (Fricker 2009, ... Only people who can t get into it do that, Lady Bracknell, the aunt of the frisky cast in The Importance of Being Earnest, warned. Oscar Wilde and John Galsworthy satirize the antiquated and superficial 19th century attitudes of marriage for economic or social gain, of men s preferable position over women, and of the superiority of the middle class in their respective works. In the Victorian Era, marriage in the middle class functioned as another institute in which to acquire property. The Man of Property provides plenty examples of this. Soames, the man of property himself, considered his wife Irene as part of his property. He was continually frustrated when he did not own her as it was his right to own her, that he could not, as by stretching out his hand to that rose, pluck her and sniff the very secrets of her heart. Although they filled in for the state in many ways they also were not a complete State because the Church allowed slavery and forced religion on people. According to Slavery and Church Doctrine: The Archbishop of Bahia Rules on Slave Evangelization and Aspects of Their Treatment (1707), the Brazilian Catholic Churches forced the slaves into Catholicism. As a result, Catholic churches established a few rules that the people would follow. The family form I am going to be defining is the nuclear and with reference to the historical perspective I will attempt to explain why this definition is problematic. Within this discussion I will also explore whether the nuclear family is a natural family form or whether it is a socially constructed one. According to Munice et al (1995; 10) the nuclear family is a small unit produced from the conjugal heterosexual couple and their biological children. The nuclear family unit share a common residence and are united by their ties of affection, common identity and support. Historical research has shown that there have been many different family forms in the past that did not necessarily fit the nuclear definition of the family. There are four main approaches to consider when talking about the history of the family. These approaches help show the significant changes that have occurred in the family . The four approaches are the: demographic, economic, sentiments and the legal and institutional approaches. The demographic approach measures the statistical patterns of the family . Statistics taken from parish records and censuses enable us to see how family households have changed over time. The average household size has been relatively stable and stayed at 4.75 persons per household between the sixteenth century and the end of the nineteenth century. These households ... What lied in the foreground of the civil war are images of unions and confederate soldiers rummaging through forest of the American South and thoughts of slaves gaining their long sought freedom. However most people do not consider the lingering backdrop of the war. That would be the effects the war would have on the changing gender roles. The new gender roles formed during the civil war before we can determine the gender roles in the socially crucial time in American History, first we should define what is meant by gender . Context of gender is more than just physical being. Gender can be considered more abstract. This being said gender should be considered a preconceived notion about how each of the two sexes should act or interact. An identity is likely exemplified by this following quote from the mid 1800 s. Their (the Grimke sisters ) antislavery speaking tour of the North encountered bitter criticism and resistance from men who charged that they had overstepped the boundaries of their appointed sphere. (Elizabeth) In the decades before the civil war it was entirely common for society and women themselves to assign a more subordinate role to women. The Narrative Structure Of The Afternoon ( 1942 ) The narrative structure in Meshes of the Afternoon (1942) is unique in that it uses abstract symbolism to transfer all narrative information to the audience, forcing the audience to actively engage with the narrative in order to piece together the plot and how it relates the story, if there is one being told at all. Meshes is told with distinctive narrative structure that relies on different interpretations for one to understand the purpose it serves as a work of cinema. The purpose of Meshes can be seen to represent, embody, or exemplify possible ways of seeing and being in the world itself. The artisanal and avant garde style of Meshes, with its unclear chronological sequencing coupled with its overt referencing to a dream state, serves to explore the way in which director Maya Deren felt about her world, one she allowed us to peer into through the lens of her camera. Meshes also relies on its aesthetics as its primary form of language, with symbolic communication contributing to its poetic form. Meshes also largely employs an expressive form of emphasis through its use of mis en scene, as the entire film can be seen as the subconscious expression of Maya Deren s thoughts of her life, specifically of her relationship with her husband Alexander Hammid. • 33. A Note on the Chernobyl Nuclear Disaster The Chernobyl Nuclear Disaster: The Chernobyl Nuclear Disaster is an accident that took place at a nuclear power plant in Ukraine in April 1986. The accident was because of a flawed Soviet reactor design, severe mistakes by the plant operators, and direct result of Cold War isolation. As the resultant steam explosion and fires emitted radioactive reactor core into the downwind and the Earth s atmosphere, the accident was also attributed to the lack of any safety culture. The Chernobyl Nuclear Disaster was a unique event because it s the only accident in commercial nuclear power history in which radiation related losses took place. Nonetheless, the design of the reactor is exceptional and the disaster of minimal relevance to other elements of the nuclear industry. Background on the Disaster: The Chernobyl Nuclear Power plant consisted of four nuclear reactors with each of them capable of producing 1 gigawatt of electric power. During the time when the disaster took place, these four reactors were producing approximately 10 percent of the electricity used in Ukraine. The construction of this power plant started in the 1970s with the first reactor commissioned in 1977 and the fourth in 1983.
