Ted Cruz And His Position On Key Issues
Ted Cruz and His Position on Key Issues
History
T ed Cruz has been a US senator for Texas since 2012. He taught as an adjunct professor at the
University of Texas law school from 2004 2009. He served as the Texas Solicitor General (state
lawyer before US Supreme Court) from 2003 2008. He worked five years as partner in a large law
firm from 2008 to 2003. He held some prominent positions from 1999 2003 for the Federal Trade
Commission, the United States Department of Justice, and the 2000 George W. Bushpresidential
campaign. He graduated from Harvard Law School in 1995 (Senate).

Cruz is pro energy when it comes to oil. He wants to approve any pipelines in order to use and
exploit any unused American energy reserves. But, when it comes to renewable energy he opposes
any subsidies for the reason that he believes they don t need help competing (PBS).
In national defense, Cruz has a strong opinion that the military needs to be built back up to the
level it has been in the past (Ted). One issue he addresses is the use of unmanned drones, in
which he is a little wary of. There are too many ways that a robot could make a mistake, civilian
lives matter. Nevertheless, Cruz is for lethal action especially when it is in response to violence
from foreign nationals. When it comes to a controversial issue of women in the military, he
tactfully states the he d rather keep women out of military combat positions, for it just doesn t make
sense (ProCon).
He feels like immigration needs heavy reform and restriction. One issue he wants to correct, is
undoing the police limits the Obama administration created to detain illegal immigrants (ProCon).
He also proposes the all too familiar wall . Like most extreme conservatives, he proposes extending
and creating a strong enough wall to keep out illegal immigrants from Mexico.
Cruz s view on the economy this: something different. Maybe that is all he needs to say for people
to be attracted to him as a candidate. He has created a simple tax plan which states that every
person would have to pay a 10% flat

Breakaway Movie Essay
On this surface, director Robert Lieberman s film Breakaway seems like a simple comedy about an
Indo Canadian hockey team in Toronto, trying to get into a sport that is dominated by Caucasians.
Rajvinder Singh, the protagonist of the film, comes from a traditional Sikh family but decides at a
young age that he will no longer wear a turban, and will not embrace his culture as much as his
parents, especially father, would like. Darvesh (the father) represents traditional values and Sikh
culture, and highlights the generational differences between diasporic families in Canada.
Throughout the filmhe is fighting to have Raj follow in the familybusiness and focus on things he
deems important; hockey is not one of them. Although this concept of... Show more content on

There are many scenes in the film where, for only English speakers, there are not translations as
to what is being said. Although for some this means not understanding the dialogue in the film, it
sparks the thought who is this film really for? I found it refreshing that although on the surface
this film felt very simple and designed for a Western audience, there were still many elements that
would be lost unless the viewer had intimate ties to the Sikh community. I found there were many
jokes that did not translate, even if they were said in English, and many references that would not
be understood unless actually researched. One example of this can be seen in the credits of the
movie when there is a combination of famous North American artists (such as Drake and Ludacris)
coupled with an iconic Indian performer like Akshay Kumar. Although many non Indian viewers
may not know who he is, the pairing with recognizable North American artists alludes to the equal
popularity. Breakaway not only contrasts iconic North American and Hindi performers but also
sights and sounds. The music in this film is quite powerful as well and contrasts against some of
the iconic Canadian scenes. For example, in many of the hockey scenes, there is loud Punjabi
music (as they call it in the film), taking the viewer away from their preconceived notions of what
music/ noises are more typically heard and thought

Analysis Of A Simple Heart
Taneka .D.G. Evelyn
ENG 212 042
Dec.12th, 2011
The realist period was a time of the nineteenth century in which authors, artists and other people in
literature provided in depth accounts of events that occurred during that time period. In Gustave
Flaubert s A Simple Heart, he explored the lives of two fictional women of different classes
(middle and lower) during the realist period. Through characters like Madame Aubain, a rich woman
and Felicite, her poor, gentle maid, he provided the reader with a sneak peek of nineteenth century
France.
The first sentence of A Simple Heart gives the reader an ironic insight of the protagonist Felicite.
It states Madame Aubain s servant Felicite was the envy of the ladies of Pont l Г‰vГ«que for
half a century (2208, A Simple Heart).By giving a brief synopsis of the protagonist, it makes the
reader wonder why was she the envy of the other women around her. She was serving another
woman. What was there to envy? Flaubert must have done this on purpose to get the reader to put
a price on happiness. Even the words used to describe the other women ladies would bring a great
deal of doubt to the reader.
Flaubert introduced the seemingly simpler character, Felicite first, with a rather vivid and
detailed description. He portrayed her as a woman that was different from the others. Being a
maid, Felicite was not expected to be complex and Flaubert did her much justice. He described
She rose at daybreak to be in time for Mass, and worked till evening without stopping. Then, when
dinner was over, the plates and dishes were in order, and the door shut fast, she thrust the

log under the ashes and went to sleep in front of the heath with a rosary in her
hand (2209, A Simple Heart). He made her seem very uniformed, as though she had nothing
important to do. She appeared religious and organized but lacked that complexity that comes with
being a woman. The routine was the same and therefore proved that a woman of lower class was
bounded to the house.
Felicite became so accustomed to her routine that she decided to stay in the house to the very end.
According to

INTRODUCTION With the proclaimed defeat of ISIS, current ties with Russia, and the seemingly
inevitable defeat of rebel forces against the Assad Regime, the Iranian government has the

The Islamic Revolution in 1979 in Iran, followed by the Iranian Hostage Crisis began straining
Iranian United States diplomatic relationships. This strained relationship was further
complicated by the beginning of a proxy war with Israel in the early 1980s. The proxy war
between Iran and Israel stemmed from Iran s support of organizations that Israel considered a
threat to their country and deemed them terrorist organizations. Since this time, Iran and Israel
have not been on good terms. The re election of President Ahmadinejad in 2009 sparked an
attempted revolt against the Iranian government by factions that believed that the election was
rigged. However, the revolution did not last long before the government silenced the uprising
and restored order. The beginning of the Yemen Crisis in 2011 we see Iran begin funding proxy
force, the Houthis, against the legitimate government. In 2012, we see Iran aligning with the
Assad regime in Syria as the Syrian Civil War begins in order to assist the Assad regime in
retaining power against rebels while defeating ISIS. Iran also backed forces in Iraq in 2014 in the
fight to eliminate ISIS from the state. The next year the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action
(JCPOA) (Iran Nuclear Deal) was signed freeing billions of dollars of previously frozen Iranian
assets. These historical events can also provide some foreshadowing and context on current
situations within the region. Since the 1980s, the proxy war

An Analysis of the Boat Scene in Gustave Flaubert s Madame Bovary
As Gustave Flaubert wrote the novel Madame Bovary, he took special care to examine the
relationship between literature and the effect on its readers. His heroine Emma absorbs poetry and
novels as though they were instructions for her emotional behavior. When her mother dies, she
looks to poetry to decide what degree of mourning is adequate; when she becomes adulterous she
thinks immediately how she is like the women in literature that she has read about. In one scene,
Emma is with her second lover, Leon, rowing in a boat, and she begins to sing several lines from
the poem Le Lac by the romantic poet Alphonse de Lamartine. The poem is about two lovers
rowing on a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She sings, while rowing with her lover, One night, do you remember / We were sailingГ– (186).
These lines, though they seem appropriate in the moment, barely scratch the surface of the poem s
meaning.
Lamartine wrote Le Lac about Madame Julie Charles, a woman that he took with him one
summer to vacation at the Lake Bourget. Lemartine fell passionately in love with Mme Charles.
However, the following winter Charles fell ill and passed away, never to return to the lake. The
poem discusses the happy memories of the summer, but that is not its primary purpose. Mme
Charles death forces Lamartine to recognize the constant and continual passing of time, a theme
that is very present in Le Lac . More specifically, Lamartine discusses the inevitable end of happy
moments, such as the ones he shared with Charles. He begs time to Suspendez votre course!
/ Laissez nous savourerer les rapides delices / de plus beaux des nos jours! (31 31). Throughout
Le Lac, the death of Mme Charles is always forefront. It is her death that inspires the poet to
revisit the lake, and it is her death that causes the realization of the passing of time. Although her
actual death is only briefly referenced at the beginning of the poem when Lamartine comments on
des flots cheris qu elle devait / revoir (7 8), the idea of death remains present throughout the entire
work. It is Mme Charles passing that spurs

The Importance Of Biodiversity
The 3.7 billion years of the earth s biological history can be summarized as follows: Organisms
convert energy into food, chemical elements perform their cycles, and species perform different
biological functions (niches) evolving in response to changes according to conditions
environmental impacts. This implies that today, every specieson the planet has gone through an
evolutionary process and that each individual performs their role in the ecosystem. Like the many
species in the world, we human beings (thanks to certain characteristics that allow us to adapt and
modify the environment) have been able to increase our chances of survival on earth and this has
led us to a gigantic population and economic growth, which we call Development. However, such a
development makes the degradation of natural resources increasingly fast, making it imperative and
necessary to establish conservation oriented guidelines, since biodiversityis of the utmost
importance for the functioning of the ecosystem.
BIODIVERSITY
Biodiversity or biological diversity is a term used very well to describe the richness and variety
of all living things in the world; from plants and animals to microorganisms and beings a
thousand times more complex. Thus, on biological diversity we can say that it is present in the
most varied places, from the cold glaciers of the Arctic to the volcanic regions of Chile. In Brazil,
this fact is not different, and this is the country that holds about 20% of the world s

Stanley Yelnats Mistake In Holes By Louis Sachar
When we think back on the mistakes we have made in life did any of them have a good
outcome? For young Stanley Yelnats in Holes by Louis Sachar, a mistake turned his life around.
The mistake put him in a bad place, but by the end of the story he had actually ended up with
many good outcomes. Stanley benefitted from many things from the mistake made by Hector
Zeroni. Stanley made a friend, received/ found a treasure, and also bettered himself as a person.
Even though he got pulled into a mess he did not let it destroy him as a person. He strived to
better himself and those around him. In the beginning of the story Stanley is a timid, bigger built,
loving, and caring boy; but as the story progresses he begins to change. Stanley s personality...

It is not always about what is on the outside but what is on the inside. He has always been loving
and caring but through this rough time in his life it is shown a lot. He shows this side to his
family and also his new friends. After Stanley was done taking the blame for the spilt sunflower
seeds and zero digging Stanley s hole for him, Stanley showed Zero he cared for him; he agreed
to teach him to read. I ll try to teach you to read if you want, Stanley offered. I don t know how
to teach, but I m not worn out today, since you dug a lot of my hole. (Sachar, 96.) Stanley was
grateful for what Zero had done for him and wanted to repay the favor and help him out as well.
When Stanley left for camp his mom gave him pen and paper so he could write her and tell her
how it was going. By writing to his mom and telling her that he was okay, even though he lied
about what he was doing he showed he cared for his parents. Dear Mom and Dad, Camp is hard,
but challenging. We ve been running obstacle courses, and have to swim long distances on the
lake. Tomorrow we learn (Sachar, 81.) As the story comes to an end Stanley really cares about
Zero and refuses to leave camp without him. He gets his lawyer to ask for files and after the
Attorney General could not find his files they took Zero home with them. C mon Stanley, said his
lawyer. Your parents are waiting. Stanley stayed where he was.

Lakeland s Little Learners
When I was perhaps seven years old, surely no more than eight, I spent much of my summer at
the local daycare; Lakeland s Little Learners was it s name. I knew a lot of the kids there before
I started attending (which I had been doing for a few years at this point) because we had all
previously gone to another daycare in town, this one called Little Thinkers. However, due to
parents not paying their children s dues, (I dimly recall a vague understanding of a card checkout

mark it) it was shut down, and so we were all relocated to Lakeland s Little Learners. One of the

To most people, it was just children grabbing toys, but to me, it was the first time I saw the true
nature of people, my first encounter with a group mentality so unlike my own. To this day I still
think that the reason I remember it so much is because my friend, James, who I had known for
so long and so well, became a faceless member of a party that had no regard for what was right
and wrong. They only saw what they wanted up for the taking, and took it, immediately
forgetting and invalidating the pride and effort that had previously gone into earning those
prizes. To me it will always be one of the saddest moments I ever had the misfortune to watch,
because James hesitating, looking at me, and then turning into the crowds is a heartbreaking
reminder that anyone can change in a second, even the kindest and most steadfast people can do
the wrong thing. Really, the prize box was a lot like Golding s conch because it was a sign of
order which was obliterated by the enveloping evils of a few. There are always going to be a few
bad apples the ones who started stealing in the first place, for instance. But what truly shocked me

Does Your Spouse Have Alzheimer s? Don t Postpone Dental Care
If your spouse was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer s disease, you have many things to think
about, so it s easy to overlook dental care. Dental problems such as toothaches and gum disease
can become very complicated when your loved one advances into the later stages of the disease.
Therefore, you should get started on a dental care plan while your spouse is still able to cooperate.
Here are some tips for dealing with Alzheimer s disease and dental problems.
Make A Dental Appointment Soon
Your spouse should be seen by a dentist before symptoms of Alzheimer s become advanced.

A toothache may contribute to aggressive behavior. It can also interfere with eating and cause
your spouse to lose weight. If your loved one is not able to communicate well enough to let you
know what s wrong, he or she will have to suffer needlessly. You ll want to continue regular dental
visits as long as possible and follow the advice of your dentist on how to keep your spouse s mouth
healthy.
Supervise Dental Care
Your spouse s teeth may be in good shape now, but they could deteriorate quickly as the disease
advances. That s because your loved one will lose the ability to clean his or her teeth well. Also,
changes in diet may contribute to tooth decay, especially if you have to entice your spouse to eat
with soft, sugary foods.
For that reason, you need to keep dental health in mind and make sure your spouse continues with
good oral hygiene. Initially, you ll want to supervise and encourage your spouse to brush. You may
need to provide step by step instructions to help the process along. Eventually, you may need to
take over dental care and brush your spouse s teeth or clean dentures yourself.

The Soldier s Creed
The Soldier s Story As a United States Soldier, one of the first things learned is the Soldiers
Creed. The focus of the creed is loyalty, duty, and respect. The Warriors Creed is also found
within this creed (in italics). The memorization of this statement of beliefs is mandatory and is
learned during basic combat training. A soldier is expected to know and be ready to recite it during
drills, formation, ceremonies, and upon request, but most importantly, a soldier is expected to live it.
This essay is an account of a real life experience of a United States Army soldier. Throughout this
paper, I will refer to him as the soldier. Is this paper, I will discuss the soldier s militaryservice in
relation to the Soldier s Creed, how disability shifted his position as a soldier, how the shift
revealed the Army s practice of ableism, how the soldier s current use of cyborg has eradicated
him from the impairment of diabetes, thus moving him from disability to able bodiedness, and
lastly how cyborg could have salvaged his military career. From a phenomenological view, the
soldier s body as subject theorized how his body interacted with the world, acquired meaning
and gained access in the world, specifically access to his successful military career. According to
Merleau Ponty, (as cited in Patterson and Hughes, 1999) it is through the body that people gain
access to the world (p. 601). The Soldier s Creed represented the very essence of this soldier;

Computer And Smartphone Addiction ( S ) Are Becoming More...
Computer and smartphone addiction(s) are becoming more and more prevalent every year.
From a 1 year old children to grown adult men and women. At first glance, these electronics look
harmless. But, if used in excess, someone can easily become addicted and not even know it.
Smartphones have social media apps such as Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter; that s only
naming a few. Many people around the world habitually use and check on these apps, on an
hourly to an everyday basis. Continuously checking these apps will ultimately lead to addiction if
not recognized and controlled. Computers have the same effect along with help from the
internet; video games, Netflix, Youtube, can all entertain someone for a few hours. That time
can easily be doubled, tripled and/or quadrupled, because of how entertained or bored someone
can be. Society needs to start realizing how much time they are spending on their smartphones
and computers. There has to be some sort of equilibrium to establish, in order to not cause
addiction or obsessive behavior. Smartphones and computers are going to keep growing and
expanding for decades. Technology impacts most of us in our life; we are surrounded and
engulfed by it. Our lives have been made easier and a little more fun by the help of technology. For
example, computers and smartphones. But, these technologies could actually be quite harmful. Can
people really become addicted to these technologies? Cooke 2 Over the last decade, computers and

The Ecosystem Of The Chesapeake Bay
The Ecosystem
Introduction to Basic Geography
Fig. 1.1
Scene in Fig. 1.1., the Chesapeake Bay is substantial in size; at roughly 64,000 miles, it contains
roughly fifty rivers and thousands of streams and creeks. It encompasses parts of 6 states, including
all of Washington, DC. The Chesapeake Bayis what is known as a watershed, an area that
contributes to the drainage to a water body, stream, river, lake or ocean. Rainwater that falls within
the 64,000 square miles that is the Chesapeake Bay will subsequently travel through many streams
and rivers, eventually making its way into the largest estuary system in the United States.
The Estuary System
An estuary system is the resulting collisions of sweet and salt fresh river water flowing seaward
and ocean water inland. It is an aquatic system where salt and freshwater are constantly mixing. An
estuary system is one of most active systems of the planet; it is a hybrid system that contains the
best and worst qualities of the ocean, river, and lake systems it conglomerates. Estuaries are unique
in nature because of their ability to be the most productive ecosystem on the entire planet; humans
have attempted and failed to reach the productivity that estuaries naturally grant. There productivity
lies it the constant change that occurs from the conflicting flows of fresh and ocean water. Ocean
and freshwater are measured largely based on salinity, or the level of parts of salt per thousand.

Venipuncture Procedure
As difficult as this procedure might seem, performing a routine venipuncture is a relatively easy
and quick procedure. The word venipunture in medical terminology is defined as puncture to the
vein which often is performed by a phlebotomist; this healthcare professional is a trained individual
who specializes in drawing blood. Let s face it, many of us are afraid of needles, even I would have
never thought of performing this procedure myself. So if I did, so can you.
Let s begin by proceeding with the first and most important step, greet and identify the patient.
Always ask his or her name and date of birth. It is necessary to make the patient feel welcomed and
secure. Verifying their identity is a procedure for assurance that all given tests are not performed on
wrong patients, this could result in wrong test results for the patient.
Start with gathering the following supplies: A pair of gloves, needle, vacutainer (tube holder),
blood collection tube, tourniquet, alcohol, gauze and band Aids. When choosing the tubes,
determine this according to the physicians order given to you by the patient. When choosing the
needle size, determine this based on the physical appearance of the vein, this will not only make it
easier but it will also make your technique better. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now explain the procedure to the patient so that when the moment arises they are prepared as to
what to expect. First you will put your gloves on, sit the patient down and apply the tourniquet to
palpate the vein. The key to puncturing the vein is not by seeing it but rather by palpating it; this is
the proper technique that is used when venipuncture. You will take a few second to examine and
feel the vein; this will give you a clear vision of the depth and width. This step should not take
longer than one minute. After you are positive about the puncture site, proceed with cleansing the
area and allow the area to dry for thirty

Examples Of Secular Humanism
Secular Humanism
What is Secular Humanism? Well I will be describing it to you throughout this essay. Secular
Humanism is basically a humanist way of thinking. This idea revolves around people believing in
a naturalist type world where people don t believe in a higher power to solve problems. It is mostly
about human reasoning, social justice, and naturalism where you make calls and judgments based
on what you think is right and wrong and not what someone else said in a book.

different names for this particular idea simply because there are so many versions all over the
world, but here are a few that I have noticed while reading through book after book. There are
names like, Naturalist [which I have used above a few times], Anti Religion, Non Theism, Atheism,
Agnosticism, Theism, Freethought, and many others from different countries. Depending on how
people live their life as a Secular Humanist they have either more intense or less intense names for
those whom are willing to give themselves that title.
Lastly, we get to the examples of Secular Humanism. There are actually a lot more people who
were Secular Humanists then I thought, but I don t know them all without looking it up on the
internet so I ll just list the ones that are mentioned in Paul Kurtz book What is Secular Humanism?
Here are the people Kurtz listed in his book from history, Aristotle, Socrates, Plato, Galileo,

Black Footed Penguins Lab Report
Exploring Braying in the African Black Footed Penguin
The African black footed, Galapagos, Humboldt, and Magellanic penguins are all members of the
Spheniscus family. Sharing common ancestry, these penguins share very similar morphological
traits as well as behavioral traits. In order to try to determine what makes each of these species
different, scientist in the field have turned to studying vocal repertoires of each penguin that is a
part of the Spheniscus family. It has been concluded that although the Spheniscus demersus,
commonly named the African black footed penguin, has similarly behaving relatives in the
Spheniscus family, it is only the black footed penguin that not only uses the braying vocalization for
breeding, but during ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Different types of calls are made possible by an organ in the penguin s throat called the syrinx.
Each species syrinx differs slightly allowing different calls to be made. A study was conducted by
Nina Thumser and Millicent Ficken that proved each species calls differ in the number of
syllables, length, and frequency. This is why a recommended method used to classify the behavior
of penguins is to understand and identify vocalizations. The African penguin had the greatest
maximum frequency of the longest syllable when comparing it to the braying in Humboldt and
Magellanic penguins. In addition, during mating seasons both sexes of African penguins will
contribute their own bray call, however, in species such as the Spheniscus mendiculus commonly
known as the Galapagos penguin, it s mainly the males who bray when breeding. The African
penguin also brays more frequently because they are more likely to display aggression via braying.
because in a study, also done by Nina Thumser and Millicent Ficken, it was discovered that African
Penguins are more aggressive towards each other than other Spheniscus penguins were towards
other members.
The African black footed penguin is unique, as in comparison to its Spheniscus family relatives
due to its extensive use of the braying call. These uses developed as a result of behaviors and the
lifestyle seen in the African penguin that are not as clearly seen in its Galapagos, Magellanic, and

Portrait Of America Chapter 1 Summary
The textbook, Portrait of America: Volume 2, 10th Edition, organized by co authors, Stephen B.
Oates and Charles J. Errico, is supplied with various historical topics written by different, credible
authors. The textbook is, indeed, worth the time to read and understand. The authors express
historical people and events many people have heard of, and expands the reader s mind with
personal stories and unconventional facts, one has not heard of. Most textbooks offer concise
information about a person or event; Portrait of America authors take an unorthodox approach by
stating information as well as revealing their own perspective on the topic. Such a technique as this
is unfamiliar to the average student. Though an unconventional method, the authors are most
effective at distributing information to the reader. Topics covered such as presidents, women, and
events that changed America hold significance to the theory, Portrait of America authors take an
idiosyncratic yet superb approach to delivering information to the reader. In Portrait of America
chapter 9, Theodore Roosevelt, President, British American author Edmund Morris begins the
chapter in a strange and unfamiliar way; stating Theodore Roosevelt s faults. A successful attempt
at humor to captivate the attention of the reader, claiming Roosevelt made rude faces while passing
boys on the streets of Washington (94). Morris s introduction to chapter 9 is unlike what many
students are used to. Chapter 21, Harry Truman:

Reality Television Essay
Reality Television
When Philo T. Farnsworth invented the electric television, he probably did not think that it would
be used to show people eating bugs, finding husbands based on votes of viewers, or living on
deserted islands. But that is exactly what you can see any given night on television now. This
newest form of television programming fad is the reality television genre. Reality television is now
on every station, every night, everywhere. The web page Fact Monster credits the beginning of
reality TV as beginning around 2000 when a little reality game show called Who wants to be a
Millionaire hit television screens. Millionaire saw the rebirth of game shows but also started the
most popular television genre in years. Some say ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not actual reality, because actual reality is boring, and in actual reality people aren t eating weird
stuff or living on desert islands. But these shows are a form of reality suitable to make fairly
interesting TV.
When thinking about reality TV and its rise to popularity there are two shows that come to
mind. The first is the creative Survivor. Survivor is an hour long show that came on in 2000 on
Thursday nights at 9:00 PM on CBS and quickly became one of the networks highest rated
shows. Hosted by Jeff Provst, the smug, good looking yet rugged host, the gimmick of Survivor
is that 20 people are deserted in the wild in two groups that they call tribes and are forced to
build shelter, provide food for themselves and then every week participate in a challenge to win
immunity. Those who do not win immunity are then open to be voted off by the tribe. The final
person to not get voted off receives 1 million dollars and fifteen minutes of fame.
Another show that helped cement the reality TV genre is NBC s Fear Factor, a usually half hour
show which shows on any night where a push in the adult 18 49 demographic is needed. Fear
Factor is the show that comes to mind when thinking of reality TV and eating. Joe Rogan hosts the
show; a muscle bound semi celebrity who is

Meniscus Research Paper
Purpose of the meniscus
The meniscus acts as a shock absorber for the knee by spreading compression forces from the
femur over a wider area on the tibia. The medial meniscus bears up to 50% of the load applied to
the medial (inside) compartment of the knee. The lateral meniscus absorbs up to 80% of the load
on the lateral (outside) compartment of the knee. During the various phases of the walking cycle,
forces shift from one meniscus to the other, and forces on the knee can increase to 2 4 times body
weight. While running, these forces on the knee increase up to to 6 8 times body weight. There are
even higher forces when landing from a jump. The important role of the meniscus in force
transmission can be seen when the menisci are removed. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

What is MRI?
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a test that uses a magnetic field and pulses of radio wave
energy to make pictures of organs and structures inside the body. In many cases, MRI gives
different information about structures in the body than can be seen with an X ray, ultrasound, or
computed tomography (CT) scan. MRI also may show problems that cannot be seen with other
imaging methods.
Bones and joints. MRI can check for problems of the bones and joints, such as arthritis, problems
with the temporomandibular joint, bone marrow problems, bone tumours, cartilage problems, torn
ligaments or tendons, or infection. MRI may also be used to tell if a bone is broken when X ray
results are not clear. MRI is done more commonly than other tests to check for some bone and joint

Quantum Mechanics And Its Effect On An Extremely Small Level
Megan Griffin
Quantum Mechanics Quantum mechanics is an account of how things rendition on an extremely
small level. Protons, Neutrons, and electrons are not balls of matter, but more like little
concentrations of energy. According to the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle, if we look at or
measure the position of an electron, then other crucial information about it is lost. Also, at the
moment we observe it, it basically gives that electron a position and identity in the realm of the
natural (Berge). In other words, our observations can alter the experiment and aid the changes as
they explain the results. Quantum mechanics is just as scientifically provable as Newton physics,
but makes less sense to our intuitive rational minds. (Ford). In science, things we perceive as
particles sometimes act like waves. In return, things we view as waves sometimes act like
particles. For example, when people consider electrons and light, they determine electrons as
particles and light as waves. Although this is accurate, under some circumstances electrons act
as a wave or light acts as a particle. In an experiment, if you take light and shine it on two slits
that are close together, each slit acts like it admits its own beam of light. If a screen is behind it
you will see a pattern of dark spots and light spots. You can predict this based on the fact that light
is a wave. If you take the light away and do the same thing with a beam of electrons, they do the
same thing.

Barbie Doll Marge Piercy Analysis
In the story barbie doll by Marge Piercy it s about a young normal girl growing up playing with
dolls and pretend make up. It takes a shocking turn when she is made fun of during her youth
adulthood, for have a big nose and fat legs. Futher into the poem she cut off her legs and nose and
a very unusual illustration of her laying in a casket with an conclusion that express to every womana
happy ending . Within society a women desire to be flawless when it comes to looks. There s so
much pressure and eagerness when it comes to a femalefulfilling that image of looking like
barbie. There is proof to this statement with the poet s use of irony, imagery and the impact of
words having a bad outcome on the self esteem of females.
Piercy s use of irony is detected within the title itself barbie doll . I envision it to revolve around
the ideal barbie image alot of people make great efforts to achieve. However, this is where the
true irony comes in. Barbies are popular for their unnatural slim bodies and perfect features and
because they are played with by little girls, that image becomes the image teenagers and girls look
for. Yet, in the poem the girldoes not have barbie doll features. a fat nose on thick legs, (835) is
what she was being teased about because she hit puberty. Then in the magic of puberty Puberty is
when your body begins to change into an adult and there s nothing magical about that, especially
for the little girl because it caused her to be teased for her appearences.
In the last few lines of the poem, piercy refers to a happy ending it is a depressing thought.
Consummation at last. To every woman a happy ending (24 25) is very sarcastic and pessimistic.
She is basically saying that at last the end has come and its a feeling of pleasure since the girl got
her wish, but at what cost did she become a barbie.
The poet s use of imagery is all over the poem when we reflect on the girl childhood and how she
was teased for her fat nose on thick legs she doesn t resemble a barbie doll with perfect nose and
legs. Her good nature wore out like a fan belt. (15 16) There s imagery in this line because a fan
belt breaks quickly when it comes in contact with oil. So the on going disapproval

Ralph Waldo Emerson Essay
Ralph Waldo Emerson, nineteenth century poet and writer, expresses a philosophy of life, based
on our inner self and the presence of the soul. Emerson regarded and learned from the great minds
of the past, he says repeatedly that each person should live according to his own thinking. I will try
to explain Emersons philosophy, according to what I think he is the central theme in all his works.
Do not seek answers outside yourself
This is the main idea of Waldos philosophy. He thinks that a man should learn to express himself.
Being yourself will help you to solve the problems of your life. We need to trust ourselves in order
to improve our life, like all great men have done. Self reliance stems from within deep in our soul

Nature in life teaches the understanding, is a practicing for the intellect in learning how to deal
with life s problems. From Emerson s transcendental (a word I had to learn its meaning in order to
understand Waldo s theory) view the natural figures are also symbols of spirituals facts or
philosophy. That by interacting with nature people learn not only what is practical but also what is
good; for Emerson the nature and the soul are perfectly complementary.
Waldo says that is good to learn from the books as long as the reader keeps his creativity and way
of thinking; that by practical experience we learn quickly and well.
A man should learn to detect and watch that gleam of light which flashes across his mind from with
in, more than the lustre of the firmament of bards and sages.
He tries to makes us realize our own virtues by calling our internal means, that s the way to answers
to many questions, and even answers for the question we haven t even shape. To keep the integrity
of one s internal evolution.
When people begin to realize that autonomy and the expression of your thoughts is right for them,
then many good changes will happen in society. Emerson s, not only poems, leads the facts of
extended view of progressive learning, but also offers insights into age old or natural method as
better than new technology based on experimentation. In many of his poems he compares the
beauty of the nature, and expresses, with nature and natural process we can

What is an open adoption? In an open adoption, the adoptive family and birth parents have contact.
The amount and type of contact varies depending upon the situation, the people involved, and terms
agreed upon prior to the adoption. Some adoptive families and birth parents conduct personal visits.
Some go to great lengths to ensure that the adopted child maintains a relationship with the birth
mother. The exact definition of open adoption will vary between families and adoptions. But there

Essay On Ideology Of Pakistan
The consequences of independence from British control over India and demise of British colonial

14th August 1947. Undoubtedly, the fundaments of the demand of a separate country were based
on the religious identity and an intention to provide a secure haven for the Muslims from Hindu

government are vested with the uncontrolled power of religion. Instead, the founder of Pakistan

2.2Ideology of Pakistan
The ideology of Pakistan was two nation theory, according to which, Muslims and Hindus are two
distinct nations from every aspect of their lives. One of the core reasons of the separation of the
Subcontinent was that, post colonial Indian state failed to offer reasonable options to its Muslims
minority to sustain in India. Therefore, the problem of minority rights was the cutting edge of all
the political debates revolving around the formation of Pakistan.
While Jinnah s approach represented a state having equality for all and free from any kind of
discrimination of religion, caste and creed, there was a demand from fundamentalist Islamic
leaders for a strict Islamic mechanism to run the state affairs. Jinnah demanded a state for Muslims
minority in India, where religious freedom offered to other faith groups could be observed as the
matter of tolerance and acceptance on behalf of the Muslim majority.

There is a relation between power distance culture and reporting of workplace bullying.
According to Loh et. al. s (2010) comparative study shows that people from high PD environment
tend to respond and report less negatively then low PD culture as in high PD culture individuals
tend to maintain the relationship and accept their status in order to stay in their group. In high
PD cultures bullies feel they can get away with it and seems to flourish for e.g. army and
paramilitary settings such as fire services (Salin, 2003b). In contrast with Salin s (2003b) studies
for effects of high PD in bullying behaviour reporting, Bairy et. al. s (2007) research in India
found that seniors doctors been bullied by junior colleagues. Bairy s (2007) studies followed out
in only one workplace using small sample size (174) and needs further examination. However,
Salin (2003b) carried out his research from variety of organizations, professions and positions
included large number of samples.
Conclusion
In high PD cultures show low level of creativity, more hierarchical and dependency upon
relationship (Loh et. al., 2010). Lack of confidence in management response creates fear of
reporting for bullying among victim(s). I believe that this study shows the direct relationship
between high PD and risk of

attack the U.S Naval base of Pearl Harbor. (Memorials) However in the movie Pearl Harbor the
attack on the naval base was depicted as being just a single wave of japanese fighter pilots. This
greatly affects the movies credibility of being historically accurate by providing a false picture of
what happened at the attack of the Naval base.

(Hughes) As well as in the movie there is a couple scenes that show three guns mounted to each
wing of the fighter plane but really the models of planes at the time only had two mounted on
each wing. (Pearl Harbor) Also another thing wrong with the movie is how the use of korean
vehicles appeared specifically the jeep that the commander is sitting in, the M 80s. The korean
M 80s were invented in around the 1950 s so it could have been around during the attack on Pearl
Harbor. (Jeep) Also another thing that proved to be historically inaccurate in the film was the the
props they used. One being the types of cigarettes they were smoking. The characters from the
movie were smoking Marlboro Lights which didn t even appear anywhere until the 70 s! (Hughes)
Another prop that was used in the movie that was incorrect for the time period of the movie which
was set in the 1940 s was how most of the characters would wear rimless sunglasses, something that
definitely wasn t around during that period of time. The rimless sunglasses weren t invented until

DBQ On Genetic Modifications
DBQ Imagine if one day, humans were modified to be better people. Well that day is almost here,
because scientists have already attempted to genetically modifying humans in China (OI).
Although humans have the chance to be modified to be better, is that really a good thing?
Genetically modifying humans is not a good idea. For example one of the modifications is to help
people not feel pain, but it can also keep them unaware of harm (Doc. 2). Furthermore genetic
modifications on humans is not good and shouldn t be allowed. Like it was said, humans should not
be genetically modified because the modification could harm the person or others around them. The
painkiller geneis meant to help people not feel pain, but it can also harm

The Role Of Traditional Family Life Cycle
Traditional Family Life Cycle The stages the typical consumer passes through from childhood to
death of spouse or partner is known as the family life cycle. The typical stages of a traditional
family life cycle were as follows:
1.Bachelor stage
2.Young newlyweds with no children
3.Full nest I: youngest child under the age of six
4.Full nest II: youngest child over six
5.Full nest III: older married or with dependent children
6.Empty nest I: older married couples with dependent children, head in labor force
7.Empty nest II: older married couple, no children living at home
8.Solitary survivor in labor force
9.Solitary survivor retired
As the stages transition characteristics of the life cycle change as well. During different stages of
life the different circumstances lead to different priorities in their purchasing decisions. The family
life cycle listed above is becoming less traditional. People are making the choice to be and
remain single throughout the course of their lives. Many marriages end up in divorce and later
remarry to create blended families. Families may consist of two same individuals of the same
sex sharing a household and raising children, or a single person not involved in a relationship
raising a child. There are many types of households. For the purpose of this paper the nine stages
of the traditional family life cycle will be used to determine who would most be attracted the Avera

The Role Of Power And Control In The Hour Of The Star
Power and control are common concepts that are often at the heart of human ambition and desire.
They are also at the center of expectations for men by socially constructed male gender roles.
Power and control are key aspects that drive motivations and achievements, but can prove to be
oppressive if enforced on others. Clarice Lispector and Gene Luen Yang provide their own
perspectives of the influence of power and control on the development of identity through the
exploration of genderand race, respectively, in different cultural settings. [main point of this
paragraph: talk about similarities and lead into differences] [insert general statement about power
and control and how that lead to feelings of power and superiority] Though different in their focus,
both stories introduce and highlight ideas on power and control through the use of multiple
perspectives. In American Born Chinese, the various point of views are shown through three
temporarily disparate plot lines, each representing different aspects of literature (mythical, real, and
surreal), of three different main characters, the Monkey King, Jin, and Danny. The Hour of the Star
shows this through a layering of perspective, as Rodrigo is a character in the book writing about
another character, Macabea. Through the similar establishment of various perspectives, the
different approaches in the exhibition of power and control is further highlighted. The Hour of the
Star displays a more figurative yet direct model.

The Gupta Era
The Gupta Era began in 320 CE and lasted all the way to 520 CE. During this period, Buddhism
was an influence for India. Buddhist monks that were disciples of the Buddhism religion
influenced education, literature, and higher learning during the Gupta Era. This spreaded across all
of Gupta Empire which gave the empire a religion to mainly focus on. The Gupta empire was
founded by Maharaja Sri Gupta. Buddhismwent from being a not noticeable religion to a wide
know religion during the Gupta era because the Buddhist monks spreaded the religion. However,
the Buddhist teachings remained the same. Buddhism itself came back as a sort of a revival back
in the Guptas. By the 4th to 5th century, Buddhism declined in India, even when it was achieving in
Central Asia ( Guptas ). During that time, it wasn t like Buddhism had no effect in India. Buddhism
imposed some if its teachings, culture, and traditions upon India, and without those changes, India
wouldn t be the same today. The beginning of Buddhism started it all. Buddhist missionaries would
travel to China along routes that were near Southeast Asia. Since then, Buddhism had sparked a
new spread of religion that many people were majorly influenced by, just like the Gupta empire in
the Gupta Era.
First of all, the teachings of Buddhism stayed the same throughout the Gupta Era. Buddhism
teaching was taught during the Gupta Era and spreaded a long throughout Asia. Buddhism was

Okonkwo Patriarchy
Patriarchy in this society also seems to cause dehumanization. One instance is seen through
Ikemefuna who is given up to Umuofia as a sacrifice for killing one of the women of Umuofia.
Ikemefuna was given to Okonkwo without his agreement. However, he became close to Okonkwo
and his family and soon even became a role model to Nwoye. Okonkwobegan considering him his
son and Ikemefuna could hardly imagine that Okonkwo was not his real father (7.59). Nwoye
seems to be becoming more masculine and, Okonkwo was inwardly pleased at his son s

Historical Development Of Play Research
In this assignment, I am going to explore the concept of play by investigating the historical
development of play, also considering the social and cultural aspects which has led to the
appropriate practice today. First of all, I m going to talk about why play is important.
The importance of play was recognised in the Children Act 2004 which sets out five outcomes
within the Every Child Matters (ECM) framework. These include being healthy, staying safe,
enjoying and achieving, making a positive contribution and economic wellbeing. There are various
definitions of play and playing.

Fantasy play was considered important to her and play as a whole was seen substantial to overall

placement, this is accomplished through love and warmth to ensure stimulating opportunities in
both settings. Isaacs valued parents as the child s primary educators and believes this is why play
should be interlinked between the setting and home. Historically from the 1900 s to recent years,
parents perceptions have changed as they expect nursery settings to nurture and bring up the child

Part of the research carried out by Smilansky focuses on cultural effects on play, she noticed that
children from lower class backgrounds took part in less dramatic play in comparison to those who

Human Moralism In Dante s Inferno
Dante s Research Paper
In Dante s Inferno, Dante the pilgrim is given the opportunity to take a journey through hell. Dante
is at first a coward and is afraid to take the journey but then Virgil, his guide, convinces him to
come on the journey. During this time Dante takes advantage of his opportunity to humiliate his
enemies and proves to himself he was right about society. One of the sinners he sees on his journey
is Judas Iscariot, who betrayed Jesus and ended up committing suicide over his guilt. In comparison
to Judas, Adolf Hitler committed a similar crime;, he killed millions of innocent people for their
beliefs because he did not agree with them, betrayed his country, and committed suicide. Rosa
Parks, on the other hand, uses human reasoning like Virgil does in The Inferno. Rosa Parks uses
what she knows about how people tend to act and took necessary action to prove her point. By
comparing the judgments of Adolf Hitler and Rosa Parks to the judgment in Dante s Inferno, it
shows that the unfair treatment of the minority in society an absolute standard of human morality
over time has not changed, based on how the majority believes some mistreat others who believe
and act differently in society, and that this advantage is a right, specifically those who are different
deserve to be treated unfairly.
The story of Adolf Hitler, 1889 1945, shows another example how the treatment of others the
minority in society an absolute standard of human morality over time has not changed based on
how the majority believes some mistreat others who believe and act differently in society, and
that this advantage is a right, specifically those who are different deserve to be treated unfairly.
As a child, Hitler was a troublemaker his sister describes his personally saying: He was a
scrubby little rogue, Paula said of her brother, and all attempts of his father to thrash him for his
rudeness. . .were in vain (Rosenwald). But Adolf s mother, Klara, was always there to care for
him. His father Alois died in 1903 of heart failure, and Klara his mother became a single mother,
tolerating, seemingly without question, her unruly and headstrong son. But then Klara fell sick.,
Adolf cared for her as she did for him when he was

Theseus In The Odyssey
Of all the Greek heroes, the greatest of all was the mighty and powerful Theseus. Theseus rose
above and beyond any other hero by using his intellect and not just superior strength. He refused to
take the easy path and instead took the path he felt was right. The myth of Theseus proves that
intellect, courage, and compassion can be superior to strength and brute force.
Theseus, unlike many of the Greek heroes, was not only the son of a god, but a mortal man as
well. Some versions of the myth claim that his dual paternity was caused by his mother having
relations with both Poseidon, god of the sea, and Aegeus, the king of Athens, in the same night.
Other version claim he was the son of either one or the other. Before Theseus was born, King
Aegeus left a pair of sandals and his sword in a hollow covered ... Show more content on

solution: Theseus must take her back with him to Athens and make her his wife. He agreed and
bravely went forth to challenge the Minotaur using only his mind and raw strength. Theseus
successfully defeated the Minotaur and ended the tribute for good. He, Ariadne, and the rest of the
tributes returned to the ship on which they came to journey back to Athens. Ariadne never made it

Notes On The Committee Kenya African Union Essay
Prospectus of Defeating Mau Mau Religion
In 1954 Louis (Seymour Bazett) Leakey wrote Defeating Mau Mau an examination of the Mau
Mau, and how the organization works from initiation to infrastructure, and the fact that Mau Mau is
losing as a political movement aimed to drive out the white man and win self government. After the
construction of the Lunatic Express British colonization of Kenya skyrocketed, causing a division
between white, well capitalized ranches Vs. small scale farmers. Tension between blacks and white
grew due to the uneasy equilibrium, causing motivation for uneducated, poor, landless kenyans to
fight the colonialist. Jomo Kenyatta help forum Kenya African Union (K.A.U.), the first effort to
create a colony wide African political organization which turned into the Kikuyu Central
Association (K.C.A.), which led to the freedom fighters known as Mau Mau rebellions who fought
the colonialist. The Mau Mau Emergency ends in defeat by the British Loyalist with brutal
concentration camps. Leakey includes seven goals the Mau Mau aimed to achieve, one of the goals
being to destroy christianity. Leakey describes various methods of propaganda, one of the most
effect vises being subliminal hymns. Hymns would contain catchy melodies, with lyrics that would
prepare Kikuyu people to take the Mau Mau oath. Within the context, Leakey repeatedly identifies
religion as the primary reason for Mau Mau popularity(expansion?) in the Kikuyu community.

How Did The French Revolution Replace The Christian-Based...
The French Revolution saw changes in nearly every aspect of society: a new government gave a
voice to many more citizens (though still very few); France was mostly secularized; class
upheavals began and ended aristocratic families; and, perhaps most radically, the Revolutionary
calendar, which completely changed an age old system of recording and time. Most of these
changes were put into effect to wipe out any trace of the Ancien RГ©gime. During the French
Revolution, a new calendar was instituted to replace the Christian based Gregorian calendar, much
to the irritation of the clergy and reactionary aristocrats. The abandonment of a calendar that had
been in use for hundreds of years was a great inconvenience and many felt it would be imprudent

The Effects Of Violent Media On Children And Youth
Essentially since media is more violent than ever, and children and youth are getting more
attracted to violent media. Studies on violent media shows a clear evidence that violence on media
rises the possibility of aggressive behaviors in both short term and long term situations (Rowell
Huesmann, Moise, Podolski, Eron, 2003). Most researchers agree that aggressive behaviors are
more disposed to the harmful impact of violenceon media. The negative effect is much larger for
younger children because they are not able to to differentiate the imaginary from reality. In
addition, Bushman (1995) argued that only particular type of children and youth were negatively
influenced by violent media these are labelled as high aggressive personalities. Aggressive minded
individuals fascinate by aggressionmore than non aggressive personalites. Children who heavily
exposure to violent media are more likely to act in an aggressive way toward others. Violent media
is a risk factor that put children and youth in a high risk of developing aggressive behaviors that
may last into their adulthood (Rowell Huesmann, Moise, Podolski, Eron, (2003). Therefore, parents
have wanted to understand the negative impact of violent media, particularly on children,
adolescents, and youth. Thus, this paper underlines some negative effects of violent media on
individuals.

Clothing is much like communication. As technology progressed and new methods were invented,
we went from mailing letters to Morse code, followed by the telegram, telephone, and eventually

person s personality and social class, clothing styles and production have evolved in a similar
fashion to the technology of communication. This evolution was brought about by many factors
including among others people s tendency towards convenience, affordability, and fashion. Clearly,
the styles have changed significantly since the Middle Ages, Renaissance, and Industrial Revolution
. But without these earlier fashions, we would not be where we are today. These

The Last Colony of Roanoke
Five hundred years ago, European explorers landed in North America. After trying to locate a
new route to Asia across the Atlantic Ocean, they found a continent they did not know existed.
Three different groups traveled to the New World, starting in 1584 (Basu, Tanya). The last group
included Gov. John White, he had to return to England to submit his report to the Queen. John
White tried several times to return to Virginia, but it wasn t until a few years later he was finally
able to return to his new home. In 1584, when White was finally able to return, the land was barren
and deserted of people. This baffling revelation began one of the greatest mysteries of all time.

Raleigh sent out two small troops lead by Philip Amadas and Arthur Barlowe to scout out a new
inhabitable area (Horn, James). They arrived on the outer banks a few months later in August,
1585 (Carpenter, Jeannine). They were the first English explorers to set eyes on North Carolina
(The Lost Colony). Within days after Lanes return to Roanoke Island from Weapemeoc, he wrote
historian and geographer Richard Hakluyt that they had: discovered the mainland to be the
goodliest soil under the cope of heaven, so abounding with sweet trees, that bring such sundry
rich and most pleasant gummes, grapes of such greatness, yet wild, as France, Spain nor Italy

island to settle. In another letter he sent to Sir Francis Walsingham, secretary to Queen
Elizabeth, Lane seems to have enclosed a crude map, its legends revealing a great store of fish
and great red grapes very pleasant there (Carpenter, Jeannine). This island was Roanoke, ten miles
long and two and a half miles wide. These were all reasons why the Roanoke colonists would have
been able to establish a long term residence there.
They returned to England a year later with two Natives, Manteo and Wanchese (The Lost Colony).
With them they brought back plentiful information about the new lands they discovered. Among

The Biblical Story Of Adam And Eve
The influence of the biblical story of Adam and Eve is very apparent in Rappaccinis Daughter. This
being said, it is disappointing that little to no criticisms are found on this topic. Nathanial
Hawthorns, Rappaccinis daughter, is an Allusion of Adam and Eve and therefore an allegory.
When approached with a readers responds critique, one is reminded of the biblical story of Adam
and Eve, the creation of man. The story of Adam and Eve happens in Genesis chapter 2 and 3.
Long story short, god made Adam and eve to look after Eden, he told them to never eat from the
tree of knowledge. A serpent, Satan, persuaded eve to eat the fruit of knowledge, and she persuaded
Adam to do the same, when god found out they were banned from Eden.
If you switch some of the characters and setting you are given a story close to Rappaccinis
Daughter. Giovanni would be Adam and Beatrice would be eve, the serpent would be Rappaccini
himself and the bush covered in purple flowers represents the tree of knowledge. In this version
of the creation of man, everything is manipulated. The serpent, Rappaccini plays god. He changes
what god has done into a perversion. Rappaccini, never persuaded Beatrice to smell the flowers, he
exposed it to her, making her immune. Giovanni falls for this eve and is now stuck to this poisons
sin.
Scholars approach this recreated story of the creation of man with the idea of that it follows the tide
of an imaginative scenario of human breeding and tyranny, exploring the

He taught as an adjunct professor at the University of Texas law school from 2004 2009. He served as the Texas Solicitor General (state lawyer before US Supreme Court) from 2003 2008. He worked five years as partner in a large law firm from 2008 to 2003. He held some prominent positions from 1999 2003 for the Federal Trade Commission, the United States Department of Justice, and the 2000 George W. Bushpresidential campaign. He graduated from Harvard Law School in 1995 (Senate). Positions Cruz is well acquainted with the law, and is highly capable of defending causes he is committed to... He wants to approve any pipelines in order to use and exploit any unused American energy reserves. But, when it comes to renewable energy he opposes any subsidies for the reason that he believes they don t need help competing (PBS). In national defense, Cruz has a strong opinion that the military needs to be built back up to the level it has been in the past (Ted). One issue he addresses is the use of unmanned drones, in which he is a little wary of. There are too many ways that a robot could make a mistake, civilian lives matter. Nevertheless, Cruz is for lethal action especially when it is in response to violence from foreign nationals. When it comes to a controversial issue of women in the military, he tactfully states the he d rather keep women out of military combat positions, for it just doesn t make sense (ProCon). He feels like immigration needs heavy reform and restriction. One issue he wants to correct, is undoing the police limits the Obama administration created to detain illegal immigrants (ProCon). He also proposes the all too familiar wall . Like most extreme conservatives, he proposes extending and creating a strong enough wall to keep out illegal immigrants from Mexico. Cruz s view on the economy this: something different. Maybe that is all he needs to say for people to be attracted to him as a candidate. He has created a simple tax plan which states that every person would have to pay a 10% flat ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Breakaway Movie Essay On this surface, director Robert Lieberman s film Breakaway seems like a simple comedy about an Indo Canadian hockey team in Toronto, trying to get into a sport that is dominated by Caucasians. Rajvinder Singh, the protagonist of the film, comes from a traditional Sikh family but decides at a young age that he will no longer wear a turban, and will not embrace his culture as much as his parents, especially father, would like. Darvesh (the father) represents traditional values and Sikh culture, and highlights the generational differences between diasporic families in Canada. Throughout the filmhe is fighting to have Raj follow in the familybusiness and focus on things he deems important; hockey is not one of them. Although this concept of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are many scenes in the film where, for only English speakers, there are not translations as to what is being said. Although for some this means not understanding the dialogue in the film, it sparks the thought who is this film really for? I found it refreshing that although on the surface this film felt very simple and designed for a Western audience, there were still many elements that would be lost unless the viewer had intimate ties to the Sikh community. I found there were many jokes that did not translate, even if they were said in English, and many references that would not be understood unless actually researched. One example of this can be seen in the credits of the movie when there is a combination of famous North American artists (such as Drake and Ludacris) coupled with an iconic Indian performer like Akshay Kumar. Although many non Indian viewers may not know who he is, the pairing with recognizable North American artists alludes to the equal popularity. Breakaway not only contrasts iconic North American and Hindi performers but also sights and sounds. The music in this film is quite powerful as well and contrasts against some of the iconic Canadian scenes. For example, in many of the hockey scenes, there is loud Punjabi music (as they call it in the film), taking the viewer away from their preconceived notions of what music/ noises are more typically heard and thought ... • 4. Analysis Of A Simple Heart Taneka .D.G. Evelyn ENG 212 042 Dec.12th, 2011 The realist period was a time of the nineteenth century in which authors, artists and other people in literature provided in depth accounts of events that occurred during that time period. In Gustave Flaubert s A Simple Heart, he explored the lives of two fictional women of different classes (middle and lower) during the realist period. Through characters like Madame Aubain, a rich woman and Felicite, her poor, gentle maid, he provided the reader with a sneak peek of nineteenth century France. The first sentence of A Simple Heart gives the reader an ironic insight of the protagonist Felicite. It states Madame Aubain s servant Felicite was the envy of the ladies of Pont l Г‰vГ«que for half a century (2208, A Simple Heart).By giving a brief synopsis of the protagonist, it makes the reader wonder why was she the envy of the other women around her. She was serving another woman. What was there to envy? Flaubert must have done this on purpose to get the reader to put a price on happiness. Even the words used to describe the other women ladies would bring a great deal of doubt to the reader. Flaubert introduced the seemingly simpler character, Felicite first, with a rather vivid and detailed description. He portrayed her as a woman that was different from the others. Being a maid, Felicite was not expected to be complex and Flaubert did her much justice. He described She rose at daybreak to be in time for Mass, and worked till evening without stopping. Then, when dinner was over, the plates and dishes were in order, and the door shut fast, she thrust the Evelyn 2 log under the ashes and went to sleep in front of the heath with a rosary in her hand (2209, A Simple Heart). He made her seem very uniformed, as though she had nothing important to do. She appeared religious and organized but lacked that complexity that comes with being a woman. The routine was the same and therefore proved that a woman of lower class was bounded to the house. Felicite became so accustomed to her routine that she decided to stay in the house to the very end. According to www.docshare.com, She grew old and more useless as a direct parallel to what was happening to the house

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Islamic Revolution in 1979 in Iran, followed by the Iranian Hostage Crisis began straining Iranian United States diplomatic relationships. This strained relationship was further complicated by the beginning of a proxy war with Israel in the early 1980s. The proxy war between Iran and Israel stemmed from Iran s support of organizations that Israel considered a threat to their country and deemed them terrorist organizations. Since this time, Iran and Israel have not been on good terms. The re election of President Ahmadinejad in 2009 sparked an attempted revolt against the Iranian government by factions that believed that the election was rigged. However, the revolution did not last long before the government silenced the uprising and restored order. The beginning of the Yemen Crisis in 2011 we see Iran begin funding proxy force, the Houthis, against the legitimate government. In 2012, we see Iran aligning with the Assad regime in Syria as the Syrian Civil War begins in order to assist the Assad regime in retaining power against rebels while defeating ISIS. Iran also backed forces in Iraq in 2014 in the fight to eliminate ISIS from the state. The next year the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) (Iran Nuclear Deal) was signed freeing billions of dollars of previously frozen Iranian assets. An Analysis of the Boat Scene in Gustave Flaubert s Madame Bovary As Gustave Flaubert wrote the novel Madame Bovary, he took special care to examine the relationship between literature and the effect on its readers. His heroine Emma absorbs poetry and novels as though they were instructions for her emotional behavior. When her mother dies, she looks to poetry to decide what degree of mourning is adequate; when she becomes adulterous she thinks immediately how she is like the women in literature that she has read about. In one scene, Emma is with her second lover, Leon, rowing in a boat, and she begins to sing several lines from the poem Le Lac by the romantic poet Alphonse de Lamartine. The poem is about two lovers rowing on a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She sings, while rowing with her lover, One night, do you remember / We were sailingГ– (186). These lines, though they seem appropriate in the moment, barely scratch the surface of the poem s meaning. Lamartine wrote Le Lac about Madame Julie Charles, a woman that he took with him one summer to vacation at the Lake Bourget. Lemartine fell passionately in love with Mme Charles. However, the following winter Charles fell ill and passed away, never to return to the lake. The poem discusses the happy memories of the summer, but that is not its primary purpose. Mme Charles death forces Lamartine to recognize the constant and continual passing of time, a theme that is very present in Le Lac . More specifically, Lamartine discusses the inevitable end of happy moments, such as the ones he shared with Charles. He begs time to Suspendez votre course! / Laissez nous savourerer les rapides delices / de plus beaux des nos jours! (31 31). Throughout Le Lac, the death of Mme Charles is always forefront. It is her death that inspires the poet to revisit the lake, and it is her death that causes the realization of the passing of time. Although her actual death is only briefly referenced at the beginning of the poem when Lamartine comments on des flots cheris qu elle devait / revoir (7 8), the idea of death remains present throughout the entire work. • 10. The Importance Of Biodiversity The 3.7 billion years of the earth s biological history can be summarized as follows: Organisms convert energy into food, chemical elements perform their cycles, and species perform different biological functions (niches) evolving in response to changes according to conditions environmental impacts. This implies that today, every specieson the planet has gone through an evolutionary process and that each individual performs their role in the ecosystem. Like the many species in the world, we human beings (thanks to certain characteristics that allow us to adapt and modify the environment) have been able to increase our chances of survival on earth and this has led us to a gigantic population and economic growth, which we call Development. However, such a development makes the degradation of natural resources increasingly fast, making it imperative and necessary to establish conservation oriented guidelines, since biodiversityis of the utmost importance for the functioning of the ecosystem. BIODIVERSITY Biodiversity or biological diversity is a term used very well to describe the richness and variety of all living things in the world; from plants and animals to microorganisms and beings a thousand times more complex. Thus, on biological diversity we can say that it is present in the most varied places, from the cold glaciers of the Arctic to the volcanic regions of Chile. Stanley benefitted from many things from the mistake made by Hector Zeroni. Stanley made a friend, received/ found a treasure, and also bettered himself as a person. Even though he got pulled into a mess he did not let it destroy him as a person. He strived to better himself and those around him. To most people, it was just children grabbing toys, but to me, it was the first time I saw the true nature of people, my first encounter with a group mentality so unlike my own. To this day I still think that the reason I remember it so much is because my friend, James, who I had known for so long and so well, became a faceless member of a party that had no regard for what was right and wrong. They only saw what they wanted up for the taking, and took it, immediately forgetting and invalidating the pride and effort that had previously gone into earning those prizes. To me it will always be one of the saddest moments I ever had the misfortune to watch, because James hesitating, looking at me, and then turning into the crowds is a heartbreaking reminder that anyone can change in a second, even the kindest and most steadfast people can do the wrong thing. The Warriors Creed is also found within this creed (in italics). The memorization of this statement of beliefs is mandatory and is learned during basic combat training. A soldier is expected to know and be ready to recite it during drills, formation, ceremonies, and upon request, but most importantly, a soldier is expected to live it. This essay is an account of a real life experience of a United States Army soldier. Throughout this paper, I will refer to him as the soldier. From a phenomenological view, the soldier s body as subject theorized how his body interacted with the world, acquired meaning and gained access in the world, specifically access to his successful military career. From a 1 year old children to grown adult men and women. At first glance, these electronics look harmless. But, if used in excess, someone can easily become addicted and not even know it. Smartphones have social media apps such as Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter; that s only naming a few. It encompasses parts of 6 states, including all of Washington, DC. The Chesapeake Bayis what is known as a watershed, an area that contributes to the drainage to a water body, stream, river, lake or ocean. Rainwater that falls within the 64,000 square miles that is the Chesapeake Bay will subsequently travel through many streams and rivers, eventually making its way into the largest estuary system in the United States. The Estuary System An estuary system is the resulting collisions of sweet and salt fresh river water flowing seaward and ocean water inland. It is an aquatic system where salt and freshwater are constantly mixing. An estuary system is one of most active systems of the planet; it is a hybrid system that contains the best and worst qualities of the ocean, river, and lake systems it conglomerates. Estuaries are unique in nature because of their ability to be the most productive ecosystem on the entire planet; humans have attempted and failed to reach the productivity that estuaries naturally grant. Let s face it, many of us are afraid of needles, even I would have never thought of performing this procedure myself. So if I did, so can you. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Different types of calls are made possible by an organ in the penguin s throat called the syrinx. Each species syrinx differs slightly allowing different calls to be made. A study was conducted by Nina Thumser and Millicent Ficken that proved each species calls differ in the number of syllables, length, and frequency. This is why a recommended method used to classify the behavior of penguins is to understand and identify vocalizations. The African penguin had the greatest maximum frequency of the longest syllable when comparing it to the braying in Humboldt and Magellanic penguins. In addition, during mating seasons both sexes of African penguins will contribute their own bray call, however, in species such as the Spheniscus mendiculus commonly known as the Galapagos penguin, it s mainly the males who bray when breeding. The African penguin also brays more frequently because they are more likely to display aggression via braying. because in a study, also done by Nina Thumser and Millicent Ficken, it was discovered that African Penguins are more aggressive towards each other than other Spheniscus penguins were towards other members. The African black footed penguin is unique, as in comparison to its Spheniscus family relatives due to its extensive use of the braying call. These uses developed as a result of behaviors and the lifestyle seen in the African penguin that are not as clearly seen in its Galapagos, Magellanic, and Humboldt relatives. The authors express historical people and events many people have heard of, and expands the reader s mind with personal stories and unconventional facts, one has not heard of. • 24. Quantum Mechanics And Its Effect On An Extremely Small Level Megan Griffin Quantum Mechanics Quantum mechanics is an account of how things rendition on an extremely small level. Protons, Neutrons, and electrons are not balls of matter, but more like little concentrations of energy. According to the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle, if we look at or measure the position of an electron, then other crucial information about it is lost. Also, at the moment we observe it, it basically gives that electron a position and identity in the realm of the natural (Berge). In other words, our observations can alter the experiment and aid the changes as they explain the results. Quantum mechanics is just as scientifically provable as Newton physics, but makes less sense to our intuitive rational minds. (Ford). In science, things we perceive as particles sometimes act like waves. In return, things we view as waves sometimes act like particles. For example, when people consider electrons and light, they determine electrons as particles and light as waves. Although this is accurate, under some circumstances electrons act as a wave or light acts as a particle. In an experiment, if you take light and shine it on two slits that are close together, each slit acts like it admits its own beam of light. If a screen is behind it you will see a pattern of dark spots and light spots. You can predict this based on the fact that light is a wave. If you take the light away and do the same thing with a beam of electrons, they do the same thing. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I will try to explain Emersons philosophy, according to what I think he is the central theme in all his works. Do not seek answers outside yourself This is the main idea of Waldos philosophy. • 50. Human Moralism In Dante s Inferno Dante s Research Paper In Dante s Inferno, Dante the pilgrim is given the opportunity to take a journey through hell. Dante is at first a coward and is afraid to take the journey but then Virgil, his guide, convinces him to come on the journey. During this time Dante takes advantage of his opportunity to humiliate his enemies and proves to himself he was right about society. One of the sinners he sees on his journey is Judas Iscariot, who betrayed Jesus and ended up committing suicide over his guilt. In comparison to Judas, Adolf Hitler committed a similar crime;, he killed millions of innocent people for their beliefs because he did not agree with them, betrayed his country, and committed suicide. Rosa Parks, on the other hand, uses human reasoning like Virgil does in The Inferno. Rosa Parks uses what she knows about how people tend to act and took necessary action to prove her point. By comparing the judgments of Adolf Hitler and Rosa Parks to the judgment in Dante s Inferno, it shows that the unfair treatment of the minority in society an absolute standard of human morality over time has not changed, based on how the majority believes some mistreat others who believe and act differently in society, and that this advantage is a right, specifically those who are different deserve to be treated unfairly. The story of Adolf Hitler, 1889 1945, shows another example how the treatment of others the minority in society an absolute standard of human morality over time has not changed based on how the majority believes some mistreat others who believe and act differently in society, and that this advantage is a right, specifically those who are different deserve to be treated unfairly. Most of these changes were put into effect to wipe out any trace of the Ancien RГ©gime. During the French Revolution, a new calendar was instituted to replace the Christian based Gregorian calendar, much to the irritation of the clergy and reactionary aristocrats. The abandonment of a calendar that had been in use for hundreds of years was a great inconvenience and many felt it would be imprudent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 58. Clothing Since The Middle Ages, Renaissance And Industrial... Clothing is much like communication. As technology progressed and new methods were invented, we went from mailing letters to Morse code, followed by the telegram, telephone, and eventually electronic mail. Beyond the way one s clothing has historically communicated such things as a person s personality and social class, clothing styles and production have evolved in a similar fashion to the technology of communication. This evolution was brought about by many factors including among others people s tendency towards convenience, affordability, and fashion. Clearly, the styles have changed significantly since the Middle Ages, Renaissance, and Industrial Revolution . But without these earlier fashions, we would not be where we are today. These ... Raleigh sent out two small troops lead by Philip Amadas and Arthur Barlowe to scout out a new inhabitable area (Horn, James). They arrived on the outer banks a few months later in August, 1585 (Carpenter, Jeannine). They were the first English explorers to set eyes on North Carolina (The Lost Colony). Within days after Lanes return to Roanoke Island from Weapemeoc, he wrote historian and geographer Richard Hakluyt that they had: discovered the mainland to be the goodliest soil under the cope of heaven, so abounding with sweet trees, that bring such sundry rich and most pleasant gummes, grapes of such greatness, yet wild, as France, Spain nor Italy hath no greater (Carpenter, Jeannine). One of the islands they persuade looked like a perfect island to settle. In another letter he sent to Sir Francis Walsingham, secretary to Queen Elizabeth, Lane seems to have enclosed a crude map, its legends revealing a great store of fish and great red grapes very pleasant there (Carpenter, Jeannine). This island was Roanoke, ten miles long and two and a half miles wide. These were all reasons why the Roanoke colonists would have been able to establish a long term residence there. They returned to England a year later with two Natives, Manteo and Wanchese (The Lost Colony). With them they brought back plentiful information about the new lands they discovered. • 60. The Biblical Story Of Adam And Eve The influence of the biblical story of Adam and Eve is very apparent in Rappaccinis Daughter. This being said, it is disappointing that little to no criticisms are found on this topic. Nathanial Hawthorns, Rappaccinis daughter, is an Allusion of Adam and Eve and therefore an allegory. When approached with a readers responds critique, one is reminded of the biblical story of Adam and Eve, the creation of man. The story of Adam and Eve happens in Genesis chapter 2 and 3. Long story short, god made Adam and eve to look after Eden, he told them to never eat from the tree of knowledge. A serpent, Satan, persuaded eve to eat the fruit of knowledge, and she persuaded Adam to do the same, when god found out they were banned from Eden. If you switch some of the characters and setting you are given a story close to Rappaccinis Daughter. Giovanni would be Adam and Beatrice would be eve, the serpent would be Rappaccini himself and the bush covered in purple flowers represents the tree of knowledge. In this version of the creation of man, everything is manipulated. The serpent, Rappaccini plays god. He changes what god has done into a perversion. Rappaccini, never persuaded Beatrice to smell the flowers, he exposed it to her, making her immune. Giovanni falls for this eve and is now stuck to this poisons sin. Scholars approach this recreated story of the creation of man with the idea of that it follows the tide of an imaginative scenario of human breeding and tyranny, exploring the ...
