Legend In The Alchemist
A personal legend is a roadmap to a person s inner most desires and feeling. A personal legend
can develop a journey that only the world can conspire. It is a blessing that can not be taken for
granted. In the novel The Alchemist by Paulo Coehlo a shepherd boy, Santiago, is on a journey to
fulfill his destiny; along the way he encounters many people and omens that help point him in the
direction of his personal legend. Along his journey Santiago first runs into a very mysterious
gypsy woman ,and asks her to tell him his future. At the time Santiago didn t know that the gypsy
women would become a piece in the puzzle of his personal legend. When the gypsy read Santiago

Nursing Home Rewarding Violations
I worked in the healthcare industry since the eighties as a candy striper (hospital volunteer). I
was employed as a home health aide, certified nursing assistant, and a licensed practical nurse.
After I obtain my LPN, I got married and stop working to be a stay at home mom. Although, I
found being a stay at home mother rewarding, I always wanted to become a RN. Therefore, I
went back to school and became a RN in 2012. Presently, I am employed as a Director of Nursing
at a Homecare agency. I first encounter a legal issue in a facility, when I was a student nurse. It
was during my clinical rotation in a nursing home facility named, Cathedral Village. I witnessed a
nurse aide hit a patient who was in a vegetative state. I could not... Show more content on

According to Philly.com, an LPN working in the same nursing facility, was charged by The
Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General with involuntary manslaughter in the April 13, 2018
death of a patient. She was also charged with neglect of a care dependent person and tampering
with records for allegedly failing to provide appropriate care to the patient, after he fell in his
room and hit his head, according to an eight page criminal complaint. Presently, as a home
healthcare nurse, I have seen many legal issues in my field of work, such as theft, physical
abuse and neglect. Now I am hearing more about theft of prescription drugs in my field of work.
However, many forms of neglect in the home healthcare field is not reported due to fear of
retaliation. As a home healthcare nurse, I enjoy working in the community. I also enjoy helping
patients and family caregivers take care of their loved ones, with chronic and terminal diseases at
home. I believed that as a home healthcare nurse I can help the family caregivers to decrease
stress and assist them with better coping skills. As a family caregiver myself I am aware of the

War Communism And The Russian Civil War
After the Tsar regime was overthrown in 1917, Russia experienced further discontent as its people
carried out revolution and civil war (Modern World History: Russia 1905 41). From these
occurrences, Russia then became the first communist state in the world. The Bolsheviks had
become the ruling party after taking over the Provisional Government in the revolution of
November 1917. Vladimir Leninhad been the leader of this party. There was a bitter civil war
between the Communists who were the Reds and the opposition being the Whites. As a final point
the Bolsheviks defeated their enemies in the Russian Civil War that lasted for 3 years and ended in
1920.

The Russians had given them peace terms that they found them difficult to comply to and too severe.
War Communism had been implemented by Lenin in 1918 because of the needs of the Civil War.
The Russian economy was now aimed at providing the supplies it needed for the army (Modern
World History: War Communism and Red Terror). The Bolsheviks party decided to move away
from state capitalism because they felt the need to intensify authority, through communism
(Reaction and Revolution: Russia 1894 1924 Third Edition: War Communism). Lenin introduced
harsh restrictive policies to create the new communist rule. All aspects of life in Russia were
controlled by the Bolsheviks as they implemented severe terms upon its people. Social, political
and economic areas of life had to become subordinate to the aim of winning the Civil War (Reaction
and Revolution: Russia 1894 1924 Third Edition: War Communism).
The aim of War Communism was to bring industry and agriculture under central control. Thus the
policy of centralization was put into play. This concentrated mainly on the political and economic
center of Russia. In addition this created a great increase of Bolshevik influence. There was
development within the factories through Bolsheviks influence. Lenin then put a Decree on
Nationalism. In less than two years Russia s enterprises were all under the central government

Case of United States Versus Microsoft Essay
Case of United States Versus Microsoft
United States versus Microsoft Corporation case was a set of combined civil engagements filed
against Microsoft relating to the Sherman Antitrust Act by the Department of Justice. In the case,
the Department of Justice purported that Microsoft abused monopoly supremacy on PCs in its
control of OS sales and web browser software sales (Lohr Brinkley, 2001). The conflict evolved
around the integration of the internet explorer browser software in Microsoft s Windows OS; a
move that was argued to restrict web browser competitors like Opera and Netscape from accessing
the browser market. Microsoft argued that it did not have a case to answer and stated the
misfortune was the result of the fierce ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, independent software manufactures and developers selling PCs loaded with Windows
OS had much at stake in the trials. Minimizing the substantial business uncertainty stimulated by
continuing litigation would thus serve the concern of the hardware and software companies in
general.
Economic analysts propose that in conflicts or disputes, concession rather than exclusion, is the
best rule. According to a basic principle of economics, when costs are low, parties or players will
willingly transact if an equally advantageous transaction is possible. This is evident, as a vast
majority of legal disputes have been settled in such a way.
Settlements of awaiting litigation normally represent a concession that takes related information
into account and offers benefits to both parties (Glader, 2006). If the settlement is not mutual, the
decision of continuing the hearing is likely to victimize one party and halt negotiations. The fact
that the government and Microsoft Corporation came to an agreement after several unsuccessful
efforts to do so in the past implies that the planned settlement was not a win for the government or
Microsoft; but a central ground reflecting the facts of the case, the court

The Foundation of Orthodoxy and the Canon
God is the Divine Author of a set of books, songs, narratives and letters that were written as a way
for man to draw nearer to Him through His loving Son Jesus the Christ. God s Word is an
expression of who God is and who His Son is. J. Scott Duvall and J. Daniel Hays wrote a book
called Grasping God s Word. Within this book, the authors inspire their readers by giving a
detailed reason why we study the Bible. They say, The reason we study the Bible is that we want
to hear God s Word to us. They go on to say, The Bible was written by numerous human authors,
but the divine aspect of it is inseparably and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Those declared inspired were of two basic categories of both eyewitness accounts of the Messiah
(the Gospels), and letters from key witnesses written to various groups of believers (the Epistles).
Concentrated effort was made to establish the authoritative collection of inspired books of the
Bible into the Canon during the fourth century; however, there had been earlier attempts to list the
acceptable books. The Muratorian Canon had listed all the books of the Bible except for 1 John, 1
and 2 Peter, Hebrews and James around A.D. 180, and the Syriac Version of the Canon lists all of
the books except Revelation in the third century. The apocryphal writings were seen as less than
inspired by the fourth century, and many of the books previously held in high regard were
beginning to disappear, as the formal establishment of Canon began. Both the East and the West
Churches established their Canons in the fourth century on the criterion of maintaining a
connection to the apostles or their immediate disciples in the collection of writings. Athanasius of
Alexandria listed the complete 27 books of the New Testament for the Eastern Church, while
Jerome listed just 39 Old Testament books with our present day 27 New Testament ones for the
West Church. The resulting VulgateBible, translated by Jerome to Latin, was used throughout the
Christian world. The Synods of Carthage confirmed the 27 books of the New Testament of

Allowing Religious People To Refuse Services To Homosexuals
The Pursuit of Happiness American states are trying to pass a bill that allows religious business
owners to refuse services to homosexuals. If homosexuals can live in perfect harmony with
religious people without having a problem with them, why can religious people not do the same?
Passing a bill that allows religious business owners to refuse service to homosexuals is unjust.
Bills are being passed in America that allows religious people to refuse services to same sex
couples because of religious beliefs. According to the article, The Great Secession, religious
business owners have declined to provide services for gay weddings and commitment services
because it goes against their religious beliefs (Rauch 19). Religious business owners believe that
they have the right to refuse services to homosexuals, which is true because it is their divine right
as an American citizen.
Religious people have the right to refuse services to homosexuals because it is their divine right,
and religious people are not trying to be mean when they refuse services to homosexuals. One of
their divine rights is freedom of religion. It gives religious people the right to refuse to provide

Army Vs. Military Army
Another change occurred, in that armies changed from being mercenary based to kingdoms
establishing their own standing armies. As a result, professional soldiers emerged which only
continued to elevate the common soldier s status in society. This occurred for a few reasons. Before
arquebuses, a state maintaining a standing army was incredibly dangerous and expensive to handle.
A standing army under a commander was mechanically difficult to manage while standing bowmen,
as stated before, required constant training to be effective. Granted, it was possible that a standing
army could be stronger than a mercenary based army, but most countries did not want to take the
continual drain on their resources. The French had developed a standing army merely out of
necessity for themselves due to the Hundred Years War. However, with arquebuses, states could
have the benefits of a standing army, but without technically having one. Once initially trained,
Arquebuses could reside in their local communities until the kingdom called them. With this,
Commanders now had to hold a better appreciation of these communities since that is where their
troops came from instead of Condottieri having to recruit their mercenary armies individually. As
the effectiveness of arquebuses continued to grow during the Italian Wars, they expectedly caught
the attention of the philosophers of the time whose works pushed these new cultural attitudes
toward the common soldier. Perhaps one of the greatest

INTRODUCTION:
The Ganges is a trans limit waterway of Asia which courses through the countries of India and
Bangladesh. The 2,525 km river ascends in Himalayas in the Indian province of Uttarakhand, and
streams east and south through the Gangetic Plain of North India into Bangladesh, where it flows
down into the Bay of Bengal. It is the third largest waterway on the planet by release. It is a main
source of irrigation, water for drinking, fishing, precipitation and main species Royal Bengal Tiger
and The Great Ganges Dolphin. It is considered as a holy river by the Hindu people so they
worship it and perform some rituals in it which makes it dirty.
The waterway courses through 29 cities with populace more than 100,000; around 48 towns. An
expansive extent of the sewage water with high organic waste is from this populace through
household water use.[1] FACTORS RESPONSIBLE FOR DEVASTATION OF THE HOLY

Humans demand the need for the worlds freshwater supplies to be cultivated as the global

freely in abundance, it is beginning to become a highly valued commodity due to overuse, droughts,
irrigation and damming and reduced water quality. Water managementis the administration of water

Collectively, these are fundamental decisions in which we can improve upon the way we utilise
water as a resource. Individuals, by implementing these decisions, are addressing the issue of water
conservation through the reduction of water use, reducing water pollution and health risks whilst
educating themselves about matters that affect their water supplies (Bliss and Paine, 2010).
Consequently, individuals have been involved in the decision making process, in order to address
the issue of Water management. This is evident through the measures Australian individuals take to
ensure sustainability.
The effective management of water quantity is an urgent issue facing Australia. Therefore, in
response, various groups have been involved in the decision making process addressing the issue.
Supplying Sydney with fresh, abundant and high in quality water is a significant geographical
issue. A range of organisations have the responsibility for water management and addressing the
issues that come along with it. Different groups target different issues such as the quality, quantity,
recycling the water, conserving it and educating communities about the issue. Various groups that
have been involved in the decision making process include The Australian Water Association, Water
Group, Every Drop Counts Business Program and The water management (WM) chair group. The

Scientific Revolution Vs Enlightenment
Throughout history, human motivation resulted from a mixture of four desires: the desire to know,
the desire to exist, the desire to have power, and the desire to create. All of these desires together
impacted historical development. However, from the Age of Exploration to the French Revolution,
the desire to create seems to have played the strongest role. This can be seen in the enslavement of
Africans, the reign of King Louis XIV, the Scientific Revolution, the Enlightenment, and the
beginnings of the French Revolution. During these times of hardship and triumph, new cultural
practices were created, new forms of government were created, new ways to interpret science were
created, and new theories in the humanities were created. These creations... Show more content on

The French collectively wanted to create a country where there were universal human rights for
all. The French Revolution was the outcome of the government going broke and the king calling
the legislature to meet. Among the legislature were many Enlightenment scholars who were
influenced and inspired by the creation of new schools of thought in all humanities (Discussion
notes, March 27). This legislature went on to create the Declaration of the Rights of Man and
Citizen (1789). In this declaration, everyone aside from women were granted the freedom of
speech and the right to own property. Consequently, this radical creation led to the abolishment of
slavery and the doing away with noble titles (Discussion notes, March 27). This legislature
completely revolutionized a country s way of life and empowered those who had been oppressed
for so long. Although women s rights were not included in this document, it still inspired women
to create their own legislature called the Declaration of the Rights of Women and the Female
Citizen. Article I of this document declared that, Women are born free and lives equal to man in
her rights (DMW 19.2, Olympe de Gouges, Declaration of the Rights of Women and the Female
Citizen , page 319). This may sound like a simple statement, however during this time the
suggestion that women were equal to men was comical.

The Objective Measurement Of Alpha Amylase
The objective measurement of alpha amylase activity is used every day to ensure the quality of
our staple foods. Alpha amylase is taken into account well before baking our foods and milling
the grains. We will be reviewing what alpha amylase is, how it is measured and what effects it has
in the industry all the way from the farm, to your fork. Alpha amylase is a protein enzyme present
in grains that have starch. It is also present in humans, most commonly in saliva (Murray). The
main purpose for alpha amylase is to break down, or hydrolase, polysaccharides, such as starch
(Murray). When alpha amylase breaks down starch and glycogen, they cause a chemical reaction
that creates the sugars maltose and glucose. Alpha amylose is also... Show more content on

The breakdown of starches into sugars gives the plant a food source to help it grow. In the 1970
s, Australian wheat farmers were suffering because their wheat crop was being bought at a
reduced rate due to high alpha amylase activity (Csiro). This was caused by LMA, or late
maturity alpha amylase. LMA is a genetic defect that causes high alpha amylase activity before
harvest (Csiro). This meant that the wheat could not be stored as long and had poor milling
qualities. As a result, in 1980, Australians recognized late maturity alpha amylase as a genetic
defect in their wheat, along with pre harvest sprouting, or PHS (Csiro). Late maturity alpha
amylase is caused only by genetics, where pre harvest sprouting can be caused by growing
conditions, such as heavy rainfall. Today in Australia, wheat breeders have to test through two
cycles of wheat before they pick what wheat lines they will breed and release to the farmers
(Csiro). Even though they screen their wheat for LMA and PHS, wheat can still be susceptible to
high alpha amylase activity, which will then become the millers responsibility. In the flour mill, if
incoming wheat has high alpha amylase activity the miller must blend the wheat with wheat that
has low alpha amylase activity, in order to create a blend with the proper amount of amylase
activity. If the incoming wheat has too high amylase activity, the wheat will be rejected and the
farmer will receive an even more income reductions. Millers

Walking In The City Analysis
The desire for a Utopian city is not a surprising aspiration. While in an ideal world cities could be
plotted and planned out perfectly, the readings from this week explore why this is not productive to
attempt in society, and also discuss the problems with city planning and government policies. While
the readings do not necessarily complement each other entirely, they all appear to be speaking for
the same message. The rigorous structure and planning, whether by cityplanners or government
organizations, is toxic to urban life, as it has aided racial segregation, disrupted the natural flow
and security of city dwellers, and created a divided metropolis (Sugrue). The reading from Kenneth
Jackson, titled Race, Ethnicity, and Real Estate... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jacobs condemns the Monotony, sterility, and vulgarity of current urban structuring and well
planned out cities, such as Le Corbusier s radiant city, that are destroying the culture and order
that are essential to diverse city life (Jacobs). Jacobs highlights that the social structure of
pavement life hangs partly on what can be called self appointed public characters, and therefore
city planning involving set structures and pretended order disrupts this essential social format.
Jacobs also explores the discriminatory attitudes towards immigrants and slums, as the readings
from Jackson and Segue did. Jacobs discusses the north end of Boston and it s improper labelling.
The north end was regarded as slum and a place full of immigrants, but went Jacobs went to see for
herself, she discovered a strong community, infectious laughter, and children playing a far cry from
the label society had placed upon it. When asking if there was any possibility of getting a loan for
new construction in north end, she was dismissed with only the words that s a slum (Jacobs),
demonstrating the misconception and bias towards various communities that erroneous city
planning has

Jocasta s (Oedipus mother) attempts to expel her cursed son and Oedipus avoiding of who he
thought were his biological parents only fed into Apollo s scheme. It was an important factor
that the audience was previously aware of this story and its outcome. As the jovial Oedipus
preaches about discovering the cause of the plague and finding truth, the audience is aware that
he is speaking out of ignorance and that his optimistic attitude would be short lived. This is
comparable to certain entertainment pieces of the modern day. The Titanic also depicted a story
that its audience knew the result of. Most people were aware of the fate of the Titanic before
they had viewed the film and it undoubtedly added to the experience much like it would have in
ancient Greece. Watching the joyful scenes of the patrons on the boat provokes mixed feelings of
delight and dreadfulness as the actors remain in an ignorant bliss while the audience is aware that

manner. Oedipus realizes in the climax of the play that he has in fact failed to escape the prophecy
of Apollo and that he has become the incestuous murderer that he had so carefully tried to avoid

Crime Statistics In The 19th Century
In England and Wales, the police record serious offences of which they are aware, but this does not
represent all crimes that are committed in the country. No set if statistics is ever entirely accurate
and recent changes to the collection and publication of crime statistics indicate that politicians are
aware that (Maguire 2007). The first country to gather national statistics on crimewas France. In
1826 this begun with the first published analysis of those statistic being presented by Adolphe
Quetelet in 1842. Crime recorded by the policed has been issued in England and Wales since 1876.
There are two core approaches which are used to try and measure the level of criminal activity.
Number one there is the information that is collected by criminal justice agencies, and this data
contains crimes that are reported by the public or offences that come to the attention of the
authorities in other ways. Method number two includes gathering evidence from sample

Good Vs. Evil In The Epic Of Beowulf
Beowulf is thought to be one of the first major English epics estimated to be written between
(insert time period) and is still to this day considered one of the greatest epics of all time. What
typically would characterize a proper epic is the use of a main character known as the Epic Hero
with a supernatural enemy that compliments the character s traits. An epic also recounts travels,
quests and heroic battles; as well highlights the ideas of good vs. eviland moral dilemmas. It is
through the portrayal of the great heroBeowulfand his battles with foes to cater to the greater good
that this epic is brought to life and immortalized.
It is fitting to think that Beowulf is possibly the first major epic because in many ways, it proves
to be very simple in the idea of what an epic truly is about. In any proper epic, the idea of good
vs. evil is always prevelant. There is the idea that a protagonist must go against an antagonist in
effort to defend the greater good. Beowulf surrounds the conflict between a brave and mighty
warrior and demons from hell. Beowulf himself represents the good and must fight many evil
monsters such as Grendel and a dragon in order to save his own people in an attempt to create
peace. Beowulf makes the fight between good and evil a necessary part of his life. This can be
further identified when he says I have wrestled the hilt from the enemies hand, avenged the evil
done to the Danes; it is what was due. (lines 1668 1670 page). He carries great

The Defining Decade
The Defining Decade was one of the most unique and informative books I have ever read. Using
this book in relation to my life, I have gained a lot of acumen on how there are a lot of
advantages in your twenties and if you do not take advantage of them now, there will be
consequences in the future. One point that made a lasting impression on me was the topic on
weak ties. Meg Jay says, Weak ties feel too different or in some cases, literally too far away to be
close friends. But thats the point. Because they re not just figures in an already ingrown cluster,
weak ties gives us access to something fresh. They know things and people that we don t know.
(21) This is a very accurate statement because networking leads to opportunities that cannot be
seen unless you act and take advantage of it. Perhaps the single best thing we can do to make our
own luck in our twenties is to say yes to our weak ties or give them a reason to say yes to us. (31)

Christianity vs. Entrapment in O Connor Wise Blood Essay
Christianity vs. Entrapment in O Connor s Wise Blood
In The Cage of Matter: The World as Zoo in Flannery O Connor s Wise Blood, William Rodney
Allen addresses the reverse evolution of Enoch Emery and the inverted quest for salvation of
Hazel Motes, suggesting a parallel between the two main characters of O Connor s novel which
reinforces its theme of the utter hopelessness of those who reject or mock Christ. Allen shows that
O Connor describes the spiritually devoid characters in her book in animal like terms, equating
faithless humans with soulless animals. The essay further asserts that O Connor uses the zoo as a
metaphor for a physical world that entraps those without spirituality. Indeed, the novel shows a
world of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Enoch s pathetic christening of the museum mummy as the new jesus garners him only
disappointment. Likewise, his transformation into a gorilla fails to deliver him from his
entrapment; as Allen says, The human animal has come to the limit of his freedom, and he
symbolically finds himself alone in his cage (268). Throughout most of the novel, Hazel remains
similarly trapped. Allen points out several symbolic traps that Hazel encounters, from his berth in
the train to, paradoxically, his car, which Hazel erroneously regards as the way to freedom (262
63). As Allen points out, neither the new jesus, Asa Hawks, his own blasphemous Church of Christ
without Christ, nor his car can help him escape from the prison of himself (267).
O Connor s position is that a way exists for man to escape the prison of the mundane physical
world, but it is not of self will and has nothing to do with material possessions. This position is in
contrast to those of many O Connor contemporaries; Jack Kerouac, for instance, made a career of
celebrating the joys of the physical world, most notably in his novel On the Road, which portrays

Abstract
Environmental maintenance and integration of health standards are a global concern every living
human being must put into consideration in their day to day activities. Ideally, over 25 percent of
the world s registered deaths and reported diseases can be attributed to the inherent environmental
factors which are diversified with far reaching consequences. Moreover, the contemporary
interventional research outcomes on environmental sanitation around the globe depicted the benefits
prioritizing of proper environmental control strategies. These appropriate environmental strategies
are aimed at exposing the hazardous health related issues that have continued to rampage humanity.
Therefore, this research paper seeks to address the various environmental and societal factors
affecting the health and sanitation of the inhabitants as well as understanding the environmental
health standards that are in place. In addition, the paper will aim to discuss fundamental concepts in
relation to the intervention techniques that are linked to the environmental sanitation globally.

The Importance Of Setting In The Great Gatsby
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, is a fictional novel that takes place in four main settings.
These settings include West Egg, East Egg, The Valley of the Ashes, and New York City. These
four settings are literary tools in which the author uses to highlight the idea of the various failures
and disappointments of the American Dream. This paper will compare and contrast the settings of
The Valley of Ashes and New York City in The Great Gatsby
. The Valley of Ashes is a wasteland
and desolate place, located between East and West Egg and New York City. The quote where
ashes take the forms of houses and chimneys and rising smoke (Fitzgerald 23) describes how
desolate and barren the Valley of Ashes is. The Valley of Ashes gets

One way is that at times, New York City can seem smoky like the Valley of the Ashes due to the
fog that rolls in from the coast. These two settings can also compare in relation to land size. The
Valley of Ashes and New York City also compare in the way that Tom and Gatsby both only use
the city to hide their matters from people. Tom only interacts with his mistress in the city, and
Gatsby only sees Meyer Wolfsheim there. There are although many ways that these two settings
contrast. The Valley of Ashes is dry, grey and dirty in comparison to New York City which is a
busy city with green grass and lush parks with many different types of people. The Valley of
Ashes symbolizes the plight of the poor, and the individuals who live among the dirty ashes lose
their spirit as a result. New York City on the other hand, exudes hopes, dreams, and an atmosphere
of wild parties and indulgences.
In conclusion, The Great Gatsby features settings that perfectly captures character, mood,
atmosphere, and emotions. The Valley of the Ashes is represented as the moral and social decay of
America, and New York City is the uninhibited immoral quest for money and

Sante s Resume
Luc SantГ© s Resume is a personal account of cultural and socio economical changes throughout
Europe during the mid 20th century, and how they potentially correlated to impact his life. Resume
consists of nine different life summaries, each with introductory constants (Luc SantГ© birth
details, Lucien SantГ© s work history), before an opposing tale is expressed to conclude each
paragraph. These vary in positive and negative connotations, but the concluding argument SantГ© s
work puts forth aligns with the clichГ© that every action has a reaction . In essence, one slight
tweak in his life, or resume, starts a chain effect that differs each life from one another. SantГ©
constructs his own identityforemost, but also the identities of his parents... Show more content on

This repetitive identity can also be linked throughout the paragraphs, as opposing as they are, to
the text s primary themes. The importance of money is a constant in Resume, as paragraphs
beginning with SantГ© s father losing his job ends with his son struggling to survive, living in
poverty and fear, or performing criminal acts. In the two paragraphs in which Lucien SantГ© did
not fall out of an iron foundry job, Luc was educated and lived either a life of debauchery, or a
life as a Jesuit. The two vehemently opposed each other, but they both allowed Luc to live by
privileged means. This idea dictates that SantГ© believes the absence of parental income and
support almost consigns the child into a poor life near unchangeable, insinuating that SantГ© s
identity is one driven by pessimism.
SantГ© also constructs identities for his parents, the two individuals featured apart from himself.
He does this not by describing their characteristics and idiosyncrasies, but by stating the major
events they were involved in that eventually shaped his life. Often throughout Resume, SantГ©
describes how his parents shipped the family to a distant country, or at the very least away from
Verviers, inevitably failing in their quest to start a new, better life. It is also worth noting the one
time SantГ© s tale concludes as one of happiness and success, there is little parental involvement in
his choices

Convergence Hypothesis In Super Bowl Commercials
Super Bowl commercials use a wide variety of tactics to target their audience. The central theme
of all the commercials involves some aspect of football a sport that is mostly popular in the

both popular culture and folk culture to reach as many viewers as they can Super Bowl
commercials tend to be targeted to popular culture, but there are some aspects in them that can be
considered influenced by folk culture due to the convergence hypothesis. The first Super Bowl
commercial examined is by Coca Cola. In this commercial the song America the Beautiful is sang
with each line in the song in a different language. This commercial is a perfect example of the
convergence hypothesis at work. Even though this commercial is targeted for an American
audience, it must cater to different cultures because the convergence hypothesis has brought many
different people from different cultures together and intertwined cultures. The song is part of
American non material culture, but it is understood by all of the subcultures that reside in the

The Effects Of Melting Glaciers On Canada s Coastline Essay
1.0 INTRODUCTION This problem could mark either the end of human civilizations or mark
the beginning of the next era of human development. It would decide on our species survival,
whether there will be another mass extinction like the one 65 million years ago. The question is
How might the breaking up and melting of continental ice in Greenland and the Antarctic affect
Canada s coastline? . In the following sections, we have gathered an abundance of information
from a variety of sources from which we will discuss, and analyze. We will find out how this
data can help us understand the effect of melting glaciers on Canada s coastline, as well as how
and what we could do to stop or slow it down. 2.0 ISSUE OVERVIEW The breaking of
continental ice from Greenland and the Antarctic has been slowly breaking off and melting for a
long time. The continental ice which has broken off melts faster and faster as it drifts towards
the equator, eventually deposing all the fresh water ice into the ocean. This process, which would
slowly drown the coastlines of the entire world, including Canada, is very dangerous for the
survival of human civilizations. Due to Canada s larger and more exposed urban coastal regions,
it will suffer a harder blow than most other countries. Islands like Prince Edward Island,
Newfoundland, and Nova Scotia will be hit particularly hard, losing a lot of its farmland and coastal
towns due to the melting and breaking off of continental ice. The continental ice

Research of Color Theory Essay
Research of Color Theory
Color fills our world with beauty. We delight in the colors of a magnificent sunset and in the
bright red and golden yellow leaves of autumn. We are charmed by gorgeous flowering plants and
the brilliantly colored arch of a rainbow. We also use color in various ways to add pleasure and
interest to our lives. For example, many people choose the colors of their clothes carefully and
decorate their homes with colors that create beautiful, restful, or exciting effects. By their selection
and arrangement of colors, artists try to make their paintings more realistic or expressive.
Color serves as a means of communication. In sports, different colored uniforms show which team

Light is a form of energy that behaves in some ways like waves. Light waves have a range of
wavelengths. A wavelength is the distance between any point on one wave and the corresponding
point on the next wave. Different wavelengths of light appear to us as different colors. Light that
contains all wavelengths in the same proportions as sunlight appears white. See LIGHT.
When a beam of sunlight passes through a specially shaped glass object called a prism, the rays
of different wavelengths are bent at different angles. The bending breaks up the sunlight into a
beautiful band of colors. This band contains all the colors of the rainbow and is called the visible
spectrum. At one end of the spectrum, the light appears as violet. It consists of the shortest
wavelengths of light that we can see. Farther along the spectrum, the light has increasingly longer
wavelengths. It appears as blue, green, yellow, orange, and red, each shading into its neighboring
colors in the spectrum. The longest wavelengths of light that we can see appear deep red in color.
Some descriptions of the spectrum also mention the color indigo, which is closely related to blue,
between violet and blue.
Light waves are a form of electromagnetic waves, which consist of patterns of electric and magnetic
energy. The visible spectrum is only a small part of the electromagnetic spectrum the

A Brief Note On Pollution And Water Pollution
The Mississippi River is the most polluted river in America, many chemicals such as phosphate and
chlorine can be polluted in the water. Precipitation can cause runoff water and can sweep trash and
chemicals into the rivers or any nearest water source. This project is concerned about if
precipitation has an effect on pollution in the Spoon river. Anybody of water that is contaminated
with pollutants, is called Water Pollution. There are two types of water pollution, Nonpoint and
Point specific pollution. Nonpoint pollution cannot be found by a specific location and can be
caused by runoff water, an example of this pollution is pesticides (Flinn Scientific, 2009).
Chemicals and fertilizers can run off into the water supply(Mary Beth Abel Hughes, James
Sammons, Scott Eddleman, Pamela J. W. Gore, Daniel P. Murray, Patsy Eldridge, 2007). Water
moves over the ground and picks up chemicals and other waste into a body of water (Flinn
Scientific, 2009). Pollution that can be pinpointed at a specific place and can be found and reduce
the problem of pollution, an example of this pollution is factories, is known as Point Specific
Pollution. (Flinn Scientific, 2009). Since Earth is becoming industrialized, water is being used and
more waste is thrown into usable water (Flinn Scientific, 2009) About 70% of factories and
industries dump waste into usable water(40factsaboutwaterpollution, 2013). Waste is produced by

Gastroesophageal Reflux Disorder Research Paper
Gastro oesophageal reflux disease or GERD Commonly known as heartburn or reflux, is a
condition where reflux of the gastric content into the oesophagus leads to symptoms which
significantly impact a person s quality of life. Gastroesophageal reflux disease gerd is the most
prevalent acid related disorder and is associated with significant impairment of health related quality
of life. Gastroesophageal reflux diseasegerd occurs when acid and food in the stomachback up into
the esophagus.Gerd often occurs when the lower muscle (sphincter) of the esophagus does not
close properly. The sphincter normally opens to let food into the stomach. It then closes to keep
food and stomach acid in the stomach. If the sphincter does not close properly, stomach acid and
food back up (reflux) into the esophagus. The following may increase your risk for gerd. Gerd
may be associated with several extra esophageal syndromes such as chronic cough, asthma,
laryngitis, oropharyngeal ulceration and dental erosions. Available evidence indicates that therapy
response rates in gerd are related to the degree of acid suppression achieved. Having an appropriate
discussion with a physician is key to understanding the condition, available treatment options and
the degree to which acid suppression can be achieved.

Medium Sized Cats In Education
Medium sized cats are some of the most popular animals in the industry of wildlife education,
and for excellent reason. Cats have fascinated humans for thousands of years and the bigger the
cat, the better. Impressing people with a lion or tiger doesn t take much effort. However, well
trained small cats hold the impact of their larger cousins, while remaining a safer alternative.
Some cats, like the ocelot, bobcat and lynx, are well known by both animal professionals and the
public. Other cats tend to stay unknown to those outside of the animal world, despite being
popular working animals. The serval and the caracal are two such cats who remain anonymous to
some degree. One of the reasons for this is the human condition of associating what we see with
something else. Often times people see serval and think cheetah, or see caracal and jump to
mountain lion. Even after explaining what the animal is, people will walk away from a show
thinking that the baby cheetah was adorable.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

two cats were only compared by sight, they would be much alike. Both animals average 30 to 40

Evaluating Complex Interventions
Evaluating complex interventions is a considerable challenge, especially when dealing with
programs anchored in an ecological approach to health behavior change (Deschesnes, Martin, Hill,
2003). In fact, very little is known about how best to implement a comprehensive and complex
approach to physical activity policy(Ogilvie et al., 2010; Sallis, Story, Lou, 2009). Therefore, a
process evaluation using program theory was conducted to gain a better understanding of the

The Decline Of Electoral Participation Among Young Canadians
The Decline of Electoral Participation Among Young Canadians Since a robust voter turnout is
instrumental to the functioning of a healthy democracy, the ongoing decline of youth voter
turnout in Canada is highly alarming. According to the Canadian Election Study, the reported
voter turnout among Canadians aged 18 to 24 dropped from 83 percent in 1974 to 60 percent in
2000 (Barnes and Virgint, 2010). The aim of this paper is to explain this decline. While it is
generally accepted that people s propensity to vote increases as they age in their life cycle , it does
not provide an adequate explanation for the decline of voter turnout among young Canadians. This
paper argues that the decline of youth electoral participation in Canada is, by and large,
generational in nature it can be attributed by the underlying characteristics of the youth generation.
Young Canadians are more apathetic towards the political process, have a lower level of political
knowledge, and view votingas less of a moral obligation than older Canadians and young
Canadians in past generations. For the purposes of this paper, young Canadians will be defined
broadly as the cohort of Canadians aged 18 to 27. The paper will first briefly explain why a
declining youth turnout is problematic to Canadian democracy. It will then refute two prevalent
explanations to the decline of the Canadian youth voter turnout that emphasize the role of political
cynicism and political parties. Last, it will provide three

visual element of the Washington monument is a tall pillar with a pyramid on the top. This kind of

How Did Reaganomics Affect The Economy
Ronald Reagan was a democrat that became president during the Cold War times. Many people
reference his presidency but don t know about the ideals and actions he undertook as president.
Other than being known as the Great Communicator , Reagan is also known for other things that
will go down in History. One of those is Reaganomics and how it positively affected the economy
but sadly tripled the national debt, his foreign policy, and the Iran contra scandal. Reaganomics
was Reagan s economic plan and nowadays it is called trickle down economics. Basically, taxes
would be reduced on businesses so that they have more reason to continue to make products in
America which would allow for more jobs and economic gain. This policy also succeeded and
brought us out of a recession. It did what it said it would and the economy rose. However, even
though it did a lot of good things, it also had bad affects as well. One of these affects was the fact
that the national deficit tripled after this policy was put in place. Because Reagan s administration

Great Recession And The Great Depression
GREAT ECONOMIC TIMES IN AMERICA
The Great Recession and the Great Depression are the fallout of the exact same economic
problems and are only different in a few respects. Each period is marked by a massive run ups in
asset prices followed by a crash in the stock market and sent both debt and equity markets down.
These periods are said to be the worse economic downturn in the country s history. During the great
depression, as banks failed and threatened to shut down the financial system altogether, President
Franklin Roosevelt moved quickly and effectively to address the most dangerous financial crisis of
the Great depression. The massive stock market collapse that began in October 1929 erased
massive amounts of wealth and because many banks had invested heavily in the markets, and had
lent recklessly to speculative investors, the banks found themselves without sufficient capital and in
many cases without reserves. He created the New Deal which responded to an unemployment rate
that had reached 25 percent, and in some cities as much as 75 percent. He signed the Emergency
Banking Act, which allowed inspectors to evaluate troubled banks and decide whether or not they
could reopen. The Glass Steagall Act created a barrier between commercial and investment banking
and established the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, which guaranteed that citizens would
not lose their bank deposits even if a bank failed.

Descriptive Art Of Art
A wave of nostalgia washed over me when I opened the door to the Durbin Gallery. Waxy, bright,
colorful, and detailed pieces ornamented the white walled room. I smelt the same smell I did
when I was a student digging through my pencil box or when I was creating a colorful
masterpiece during my free time as a child. As I walked around the gallery and saw the pieces
that the artist, Herb Williams, created and displayed in his exhibit, Master Heist. I saw a can of
Campbell s Chicken Noodle Soup, a recreation of Vincent van Goghs The Starry Night, word
bubbles with text, and many more. Williams brought me back to my childhood and amazed me
within a matter of seconds of entering the exhibit by using familiar objects to make familiar
works of art. A thought I continuously had while walking around the exhibit was of how cool it
was to see how one individual used crayons, something I ve always correlated as a tool used to
make art, to create art. The individual pieces when observed from a distance looked to me to be
a vibrant printed picture. However, at a closer glance, it was easy to tell that it was not printed,
and that it was composed of an object that most all viewers can relate to in some way. The artist
took crayons in their most simplistic form, cylinders of wax, to a new level. The thousands of

Fred Hollows Research Paper
Frederick Cossom (Fred) Hollows was one of the greatest Australians who had ever lived. He is
known to be one of the most caring men in history who always put others before himself to help
the world be seen as a better place.
Fred Hollows was born on the 9th of April, 1929 in Dunedin, New Zealand. He was the second of

the plane was leaving that day, he had a massive decision. One of the students at the same camp

plane. After he completed his studies as an ophthalmologist, he then went on to enrol in Otago
Medical School. In 1961 he travelled to Moorfields Eye Hospital in England to study
ophthalmology only 4 years after in 1965 he moved to Australia. Fred then went on to work at a
leading hospital in Sydney and in 5 years became the head of the ophthalmology

Symbols And Intersects In Shakespeare s Othello
The story Othello contains many secrets and back stabbings. Iaga was the main culprit of all of
the secrets and back stabbings. He played a mind game with everybody who he had a vengeance
against. The main backstabbing move by Iago was when he used the handkerchief against Cassio.
The handkerchief symbolizes the fidelity of Desdemonaand it shows the turning point of the whole
play. Desdemona was a very faithful lady to Othellobut one little slip up made that turn into a
different story. Othello gave Desdemona a handkerchief as a wedding present. It meant more to
Othello than Desdemona had thought. It had come from his mother. It had been spotted with
strawberries on it which had been dyed with blood of a virgin (Shakespeare, 780). It also

I was employed as a home health aide, certified nursing assistant, and a licensed practical nurse. After I obtain my LPN, I got married and stop working to be a stay at home mom. Although, I found being a stay at home mother rewarding, I always wanted to become a RN. Therefore, I went back to school and became a RN in 2012. Presently, I am employed as a Director of Nursing at a Homecare agency. I first encounter a legal issue in a facility, when I was a student nurse. It was during my clinical rotation in a nursing home facility named, Cathedral Village. I witnessed a nurse aide hit a patient who was in a vegetative state. I could not... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Philly.com, an LPN working in the same nursing facility, was charged by The Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General with involuntary manslaughter in the April 13, 2018 death of a patient. She was also charged with neglect of a care dependent person and tampering with records for allegedly failing to provide appropriate care to the patient, after he fell in his room and hit his head, according to an eight page criminal complaint. Presently, as a home healthcare nurse, I have seen many legal issues in my field of work, such as theft, physical abuse and neglect. Now I am hearing more about theft of prescription drugs in my field of work. However, many forms of neglect in the home healthcare field is not reported due to fear of retaliation. As a home healthcare nurse, I enjoy working in the community. I also enjoy helping patients and family caregivers take care of their loved ones, with chronic and terminal diseases at home. I believed that as a home healthcare nurse I can help the family caregivers to decrease stress and assist them with better coping skills. As a family caregiver myself I am aware of the ... • 4. War Communism And The Russian Civil War After the Tsar regime was overthrown in 1917, Russia experienced further discontent as its people carried out revolution and civil war (Modern World History: Russia 1905 41). From these occurrences, Russia then became the first communist state in the world. The Bolsheviks had become the ruling party after taking over the Provisional Government in the revolution of November 1917. Vladimir Leninhad been the leader of this party. There was a bitter civil war between the Communists who were the Reds and the opposition being the Whites. As a final point the Bolsheviks defeated their enemies in the Russian Civil War that lasted for 3 years and ended in 1920. When the Bolsheviks took over after winning the Civil War they had complete control ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Russians had given them peace terms that they found them difficult to comply to and too severe. War Communism had been implemented by Lenin in 1918 because of the needs of the Civil War. The Russian economy was now aimed at providing the supplies it needed for the army (Modern World History: War Communism and Red Terror). The Bolsheviks party decided to move away from state capitalism because they felt the need to intensify authority, through communism (Reaction and Revolution: Russia 1894 1924 Third Edition: War Communism). Lenin introduced harsh restrictive policies to create the new communist rule. All aspects of life in Russia were controlled by the Bolsheviks as they implemented severe terms upon its people. Social, political and economic areas of life had to become subordinate to the aim of winning the Civil War (Reaction and Revolution: Russia 1894 1924 Third Edition: War Communism). The aim of War Communism was to bring industry and agriculture under central control. Thus the policy of centralization was put into play. This concentrated mainly on the political and economic center of Russia. In addition this created a great increase of Bolshevik influence. There was development within the factories through Bolsheviks influence. Lenin then put a Decree on Nationalism. • 5. Case of United States Versus Microsoft Essay Case of United States Versus Microsoft United States versus Microsoft Corporation case was a set of combined civil engagements filed against Microsoft relating to the Sherman Antitrust Act by the Department of Justice. In the case, the Department of Justice purported that Microsoft abused monopoly supremacy on PCs in its control of OS sales and web browser software sales (Lohr Brinkley, 2001). The conflict evolved around the integration of the internet explorer browser software in Microsoft s Windows OS; a move that was argued to restrict web browser competitors like Opera and Netscape from accessing the browser market. Microsoft argued that it did not have a case to answer and stated the misfortune was the result of the fierce ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Moreover, independent software manufactures and developers selling PCs loaded with Windows OS had much at stake in the trials. Minimizing the substantial business uncertainty stimulated by continuing litigation would thus serve the concern of the hardware and software companies in general. Economic analysts propose that in conflicts or disputes, concession rather than exclusion, is the best rule. According to a basic principle of economics, when costs are low, parties or players will willingly transact if an equally advantageous transaction is possible. This is evident, as a vast majority of legal disputes have been settled in such a way. Settlements of awaiting litigation normally represent a concession that takes related information into account and offers benefits to both parties (Glader, 2006). If the settlement is not mutual, the decision of continuing the hearing is likely to victimize one party and halt negotiations. The fact that the government and Microsoft Corporation came to an agreement after several unsuccessful efforts to do so in the past implies that the planned settlement was not a win for the government or Microsoft; but a central ground reflecting the facts of the case, the court ... Concentrated effort was made to establish the authoritative collection of inspired books of the Bible into the Canon during the fourth century; however, there had been earlier attempts to list the acceptable books. The Muratorian Canon had listed all the books of the Bible except for 1 John, 1 and 2 Peter, Hebrews and James around A.D. 180, and the Syriac Version of the Canon lists all of the books except Revelation in the third century. The apocryphal writings were seen as less than inspired by the fourth century, and many of the books previously held in high regard were beginning to disappear, as the formal establishment of Canon began. Both the East and the West Churches established their Canons in the fourth century on the criterion of maintaining a connection to the apostles or their immediate disciples in the collection of writings. Athanasius of Alexandria listed the complete 27 books of the New Testament for the Eastern Church, while Jerome listed just 39 Old Testament books with our present day 27 New Testament ones for the West Church. The resulting VulgateBible, translated by Jerome to Latin, was used throughout the Christian world. The Synods of Carthage confirmed the 27 books of the New Testament of ... Allowing Religious People To Refuse Services To Homosexuals The Pursuit of Happiness American states are trying to pass a bill that allows religious business owners to refuse services to homosexuals. If homosexuals can live in perfect harmony with religious people without having a problem with them, why can religious people not do the same? Passing a bill that allows religious business owners to refuse service to homosexuals is unjust. Bills are being passed in America that allows religious people to refuse services to same sex couples because of religious beliefs. According to the article, The Great Secession, religious business owners have declined to provide services for gay weddings and commitment services because it goes against their religious beliefs (Rauch 19). Religious business owners believe that they have the right to refuse services to homosexuals, which is true because it is their divine right as an American citizen. • 8. Army Vs. Military Army Another change occurred, in that armies changed from being mercenary based to kingdoms establishing their own standing armies. As a result, professional soldiers emerged which only continued to elevate the common soldier s status in society. This occurred for a few reasons. Before arquebuses, a state maintaining a standing army was incredibly dangerous and expensive to handle. A standing army under a commander was mechanically difficult to manage while standing bowmen, as stated before, required constant training to be effective. Granted, it was possible that a standing army could be stronger than a mercenary based army, but most countries did not want to take the continual drain on their resources. The French had developed a standing army merely out of necessity for themselves due to the Hundred Years War. However, with arquebuses, states could have the benefits of a standing army, but without technically having one. Once initially trained, Arquebuses could reside in their local communities until the kingdom called them. With this, Commanders now had to hold a better appreciation of these communities since that is where their troops came from instead of Condottieri having to recruit their mercenary armies individually. As the effectiveness of arquebuses continued to grow during the Italian Wars, they expectedly caught the attention of the philosophers of the time whose works pushed these new cultural attitudes toward the common soldier. • 11. Scientific Revolution Vs Enlightenment Throughout history, human motivation resulted from a mixture of four desires: the desire to know, the desire to exist, the desire to have power, and the desire to create. All of these desires together impacted historical development. However, from the Age of Exploration to the French Revolution, the desire to create seems to have played the strongest role. This can be seen in the enslavement of Africans, the reign of King Louis XIV, the Scientific Revolution, the Enlightenment, and the beginnings of the French Revolution. During these times of hardship and triumph, new cultural practices were created, new forms of government were created, new ways to interpret science were created, and new theories in the humanities were created. The French Revolution was the outcome of the government going broke and the king calling the legislature to meet. Among the legislature were many Enlightenment scholars who were influenced and inspired by the creation of new schools of thought in all humanities (Discussion notes, March 27). This legislature went on to create the Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen (1789). In this declaration, everyone aside from women were granted the freedom of speech and the right to own property. Consequently, this radical creation led to the abolishment of slavery and the doing away with noble titles (Discussion notes, March 27). This legislature completely revolutionized a country s way of life and empowered those who had been oppressed for so long. Although women s rights were not included in this document, it still inspired women to create their own legislature called the Declaration of the Rights of Women and the Female Citizen. Article I of this document declared that, Women are born free and lives equal to man in her rights (DMW 19.2, Olympe de Gouges, Declaration of the Rights of Women and the Female Citizen , page 319). Alpha amylase is taken into account well before baking our foods and milling the grains. We will be reviewing what alpha amylase is, how it is measured and what effects it has in the industry all the way from the farm, to your fork. Alpha amylase is a protein enzyme present in grains that have starch. It is also present in humans, most commonly in saliva (Murray). The breakdown of starches into sugars gives the plant a food source to help it grow. In the 1970 s, Australian wheat farmers were suffering because their wheat crop was being bought at a reduced rate due to high alpha amylase activity (Csiro). This was caused by LMA, or late maturity alpha amylase. LMA is a genetic defect that causes high alpha amylase activity before harvest (Csiro). This meant that the wheat could not be stored as long and had poor milling qualities. As a result, in 1980, Australians recognized late maturity alpha amylase as a genetic defect in their wheat, along with pre harvest sprouting, or PHS (Csiro). Late maturity alpha amylase is caused only by genetics, where pre harvest sprouting can be caused by growing conditions, such as heavy rainfall. Today in Australia, wheat breeders have to test through two cycles of wheat before they pick what wheat lines they will breed and release to the farmers (Csiro). Even though they screen their wheat for LMA and PHS, wheat can still be susceptible to high alpha amylase activity, which will then become the millers responsibility. In the flour mill, if incoming wheat has high alpha amylase activity the miller must blend the wheat with wheat that has low alpha amylase activity, in order to create a blend with the proper amount of amylase activity. If the incoming wheat has too high amylase activity, the wheat will be rejected and the farmer will receive an even more income reductions. Millers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While in an ideal world cities could be plotted and planned out perfectly, the readings from this week explore why this is not productive to attempt in society, and also discuss the problems with city planning and government policies. While the readings do not necessarily complement each other entirely, they all appear to be speaking for the same message. An epic also recounts travels, quests and heroic battles; as well highlights the ideas of good vs. eviland moral dilemmas. It is through the portrayal of the great heroBeowulfand his battles with foes to cater to the greater good that this epic is brought to life and immortalized. It is fitting to think that Beowulf is possibly the first major epic because in many ways, it proves to be very simple in the idea of what an epic truly is about. Likewise, his transformation into a gorilla fails to deliver him from his entrapment; as Allen says, The human animal has come to the limit of his freedom, and he symbolically finds himself alone in his cage (268). Throughout most of the novel, Hazel remains similarly trapped. Allen points out several symbolic traps that Hazel encounters, from his berth in the train to, paradoxically, his car, which Hazel erroneously regards as the way to freedom (262 63). As Allen points out, neither the new jesus, Asa Hawks, his own blasphemous Church of Christ without Christ, nor his car can help him escape from the prison of himself (267). O Connor s position is that a way exists for man to escape the prison of the mundane physical world, but it is not of self will and has nothing to do with material possessions. This position is in contrast to those of many O Connor contemporaries; Jack Kerouac, for instance, made a career of celebrating the joys of the physical world, most notably in his novel On the Road, which portrays the automobile as a quick ticket to freedom. The importance of money is a constant in Resume, as paragraphs beginning with SantГ© s father losing his job ends with his son struggling to survive, living in poverty and fear, or performing criminal acts. In the two paragraphs in which Lucien SantГ© did not fall out of an iron foundry job, Luc was educated and lived either a life of debauchery, or a life as a Jesuit. The two vehemently opposed each other, but they both allowed Luc to live by privileged means. This idea dictates that SantГ© believes the absence of parental income and support almost consigns the child into a poor life near unchangeable, insinuating that SantГ© s identity is one driven by pessimism. SantГ© also constructs identities for his parents, the two individuals featured apart from himself. He does this not by describing their characteristics and idiosyncrasies, but by stating the major events they were involved in that eventually shaped his life. Often throughout Resume, SantГ© describes how his parents shipped the family to a distant country, or at the very least away from Verviers, inevitably failing in their quest to start a new, better life. It is also worth noting the one time SantГ© s tale concludes as one of happiness and success, there is little parental involvement in his choices ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 26. Convergence Hypothesis In Super Bowl Commercials Super Bowl commercials use a wide variety of tactics to target their audience. The central theme of all the commercials involves some aspect of football a sport that is mostly popular in the United States. However, due to the convergence hypothesis, the commercials must use aspects of both popular culture and folk culture to reach as many viewers as they can Super Bowl commercials tend to be targeted to popular culture, but there are some aspects in them that can be considered influenced by folk culture due to the convergence hypothesis. The first Super Bowl commercial examined is by Coca Cola. In this commercial the song America the Beautiful is sang with each line in the song in a different language. This commercial is a perfect example of the convergence hypothesis at work. Even though this commercial is targeted for an American audience, it must cater to different cultures because the convergence hypothesis has brought many different people from different cultures together and intertwined cultures. • 28. The Effects Of Melting Glaciers On Canada s Coastline Essay 1.0 INTRODUCTION This problem could mark either the end of human civilizations or mark the beginning of the next era of human development. It would decide on our species survival, whether there will be another mass extinction like the one 65 million years ago. The question is How might the breaking up and melting of continental ice in Greenland and the Antarctic affect Canada s coastline? . In the following sections, we have gathered an abundance of information from a variety of sources from which we will discuss, and analyze. We will find out how this data can help us understand the effect of melting glaciers on Canada s coastline, as well as how and what we could do to stop or slow it down. 2.0 ISSUE OVERVIEW The breaking of continental ice from Greenland and the Antarctic has been slowly breaking off and melting for a long time. The continental ice which has broken off melts faster and faster as it drifts towards the equator, eventually deposing all the fresh water ice into the ocean. This process, which would slowly drown the coastlines of the entire world, including Canada, is very dangerous for the survival of human civilizations. Due to Canada s larger and more exposed urban coastal regions, it will suffer a harder blow than most other countries. Islands like Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland, and Nova Scotia will be hit particularly hard, losing a lot of its farmland and coastal towns due to the melting and breaking off of continental ice. We delight in the colors of a magnificent sunset and in the bright red and golden yellow leaves of autumn. We are charmed by gorgeous flowering plants and the brilliantly colored arch of a rainbow. For example, many people choose the colors of their clothes carefully and decorate their homes with colors that create beautiful, restful, or exciting effects. Different wavelengths of light appear to us as different colors. Light that contains all wavelengths in the same proportions as sunlight appears white. See LIGHT. When a beam of sunlight passes through a specially shaped glass object called a prism, the rays of different wavelengths are bent at different angles. The bending breaks up the sunlight into a beautiful band of colors. This band contains all the colors of the rainbow and is called the visible spectrum. At one end of the spectrum, the light appears as violet. It consists of the shortest wavelengths of light that we can see. Farther along the spectrum, the light has increasingly longer wavelengths. It appears as blue, green, yellow, orange, and red, each shading into its neighboring colors in the spectrum. The longest wavelengths of light that we can see appear deep red in color. Some descriptions of the spectrum also mention the color indigo, which is closely related to blue, between violet and blue. Light waves are a form of electromagnetic waves, which consist of patterns of electric and magnetic energy. The visible spectrum is only a small part of the electromagnetic spectrum the ... • 30. A Brief Note On Pollution And Water Pollution The Mississippi River is the most polluted river in America, many chemicals such as phosphate and chlorine can be polluted in the water. Precipitation can cause runoff water and can sweep trash and chemicals into the rivers or any nearest water source. This project is concerned about if precipitation has an effect on pollution in the Spoon river. Anybody of water that is contaminated with pollutants, is called Water Pollution. There are two types of water pollution, Nonpoint and Point specific pollution. Nonpoint pollution cannot be found by a specific location and can be caused by runoff water, an example of this pollution is pesticides (Flinn Scientific, 2009). Chemicals and fertilizers can run off into the water supply(Mary Beth Abel Hughes, James Sammons, Scott Eddleman, Pamela J. W. Gore, Daniel P. Murray, Patsy Eldridge, 2007). Water moves over the ground and picks up chemicals and other waste into a body of water (Flinn Scientific, 2009). Pollution that can be pinpointed at a specific place and can be found and reduce the problem of pollution, an example of this pollution is factories, is known as Point Specific Pollution. (Flinn Scientific, 2009). Since Earth is becoming industrialized, water is being used and more waste is thrown into usable water (Flinn Scientific, 2009) About 70% of factories and industries dump waste into usable water(40factsaboutwaterpollution, 2013). Cats have fascinated humans for thousands of years and the bigger the cat, the better. Impressing people with a lion or tiger doesn t take much effort. However, well trained small cats hold the impact of their larger cousins, while remaining a safer alternative. Some cats, like the ocelot, bobcat and lynx, are well known by both animal professionals and the public. Other cats tend to stay unknown to those outside of the animal world, despite being popular working animals. The serval and the caracal are two such cats who remain anonymous to some degree. One of the reasons for this is the human condition of associating what we see with something else. Often times people see serval and think cheetah, or see caracal and jump to mountain lion. • 35. The Decline Of Electoral Participation Among Young Canadians The Decline of Electoral Participation Among Young Canadians Since a robust voter turnout is instrumental to the functioning of a healthy democracy, the ongoing decline of youth voter turnout in Canada is highly alarming. According to the Canadian Election Study, the reported voter turnout among Canadians aged 18 to 24 dropped from 83 percent in 1974 to 60 percent in 2000 (Barnes and Virgint, 2010). The aim of this paper is to explain this decline. While it is generally accepted that people s propensity to vote increases as they age in their life cycle , it does not provide an adequate explanation for the decline of voter turnout among young Canadians. This paper argues that the decline of youth electoral participation in Canada is, by and large, generational in nature it can be attributed by the underlying characteristics of the youth generation. Young Canadians are more apathetic towards the political process, have a lower level of political knowledge, and view votingas less of a moral obligation than older Canadians and young Canadians in past generations. For the purposes of this paper, young Canadians will be defined broadly as the cohort of Canadians aged 18 to 27. The paper will first briefly explain why a declining youth turnout is problematic to Canadian democracy. It will then refute two prevalent explanations to the decline of the Canadian youth voter turnout that emphasize the role of political cynicism and political parties. Last, it will provide three ... One of those is Reaganomics and how it positively affected the economy but sadly tripled the national debt, his foreign policy, and the Iran contra scandal. Reaganomics was Reagan s economic plan and nowadays it is called trickle down economics. Basically, taxes would be reduced on businesses so that they have more reason to continue to make products in America which would allow for more jobs and economic gain. This policy also succeeded and brought us out of a recession. It did what it said it would and the economy rose. However, even though it did a lot of good things, it also had bad affects as well. These periods are said to be the worse economic downturn in the country s history. During the great depression, as banks failed and threatened to shut down the financial system altogether, President Franklin Roosevelt moved quickly and effectively to address the most dangerous financial crisis of the Great depression. The massive stock market collapse that began in October 1929 erased massive amounts of wealth and because many banks had invested heavily in the markets, and had lent recklessly to speculative investors, the banks found themselves without sufficient capital and in many cases without reserves. I smelt the same smell I did when I was a student digging through my pencil box or when I was creating a colorful masterpiece during my free time as a child. As I walked around the gallery and saw the pieces that the artist, Herb Williams, created and displayed in his exhibit, Master Heist. I saw a can of Campbell s Chicken Noodle Soup, a recreation of Vincent van Goghs The Starry Night, word bubbles with text, and many more. A thought I continuously had while walking around the exhibit was of how cool it was to see how one individual used crayons, something I ve always correlated as a tool used to make art, to create art. The individual pieces when observed from a distance looked to me to be a vibrant printed picture. However, at a closer glance, it was easy to tell that it was not printed, and that it was composed of an object that most all viewers can relate to in some way.
