5. RULER / FOOT RULE
Ruler - is a tool or device used to measure length and draw
straight lines. The rulers are marked with standard distance
in centimeters in the top and inches in the bottom and the
intervals in the ruler are called hash marks.

6. READING INCHES (‘’)
The length of an inch ruler is 12 inches (in) lines
between each inch represent a fraction of an inch. Each
inch is divided into 16 lines meaning that the space
between each line is 1/16 inch long.
The inch is the longest line on the ruler. (longest
line = inch, second longest line = ½ inch, third longest line
= ¼ inch, second smallest line = 1/8-inch, smallest line =
1/16 inch).
