Violence Tends To Threaten The Organization Of Society.
Violence tends to threaten the organization of society. In today s society violence is permeated in
almost every aspect of our daily lives. Violence in our society enters our homes, workplace, and
schools and especially in the media. Violence is the intentional action or inaction causing physical,
sexual and psychological injury, including battering, pornography, sexual assault, incest, child abuse
and sexual harassment. Advertisers use sex to get our attention and they make claims about their
product s ability to make us popular, attractive and successful. In my opinion ads affect us in
potentially damaging ways. The ads portray bodies, especially those of women as objects, which
forces us to seeing each other in dehumanizing ways.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In today s society there have been many instances of workplace violence that has included physical
assaults, threats, verbal abuse, beatings, stabbing, rapes, obscene phone calls and shootings. I
think this is due in fact by increasing social and economic factors. At my place of employment,
we have many instances of work place violence involving staff on staff, as well as inmate against
staff. Working in such a volatile situation has kind of desensitized me to these acts and I have
found myself needing counseling and the use of anti depressants to just get through the
workweek. Being surrounded by violence and violent individuals has a negative effect on those
subjected to it on a regular basis. Many people working in this field deny that they are affected by
it emotionally, however the reality of it shows in the high rates of suicide and divorce amongst
correctional staff. 2.Compare psychological theories of aggression, in particular, the catharsis and
social learning theories. The psychological theories of aggression are that it is shaped by the brain
and also involves genetic factors. Aggression is a drive that is common to most animals and
humans. It is described as an accumulating force, which needs to be released, usually in response to
a specific stimulus. Aggressive behavior usually occurs because of an individual attempting to

Beth Henley Interview With The Jacksonian
Beth Henley has always been aware of the problems that occur around her. In an interview with
Dan O Brien, Beth was asked, With the Jacksonian [which takes place in 1964 in Jackson,
Mississippi], do you feel like you re dealing with this history of racism in a more head on way?
Beth answered, Yeah, more head on definitely. It s a really horrifying issue to deal with, and you
don t want to do it. I think it s so dark for me to go to that time in my life because I was young
then, and I was so confused. Because here was your governor, people you were meant to look up

virulent racists. And you knew it wasn t right but you couldn t figure it out when you re

Essay On The Age Of Wordsworth
The Age of Wordsworth (1798 1832) is considered to have begun with the joint publication of
Lyrical Ballads by the Lake Poets , William Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor Coleridge. The poetry
of this age witnessed altering of the theme from public and impersonal to subjective. Common
people and common things were given the most importance. Depiction of countryside, rural life,
pastoral life and Nature was common. The subject of the poetryswitched from facts, reasons to the
world of imagination, passion, and senses. Imagination is the soul of romantic poetry. Poets
employed it to experience transcendentalism and spirituality. Emotions were the bed rock of
romanticism. It took over reason and logic. Poets talked about the elementary passions of human
beings, derived through the senses eyes, nose, ears. It was marked with super naturalism and was
devoid of materialism. They had a vision of the mystic and mysterious forces whom they called the
divine. To complement the subject of poetry, the language used by the poets was simple and rustic,
the one that is spoken by common people. There was no stereotypical and conventional diction.
Poets used various forms of meter. Rhyme and rhythm wasn t their actual concern, expressing the
emotions and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The influence of these early surroundings was, as he later said, profound and lasting. The rough,

contact with the corruptions of civilization. As he spent most of his boyhood with them, he learned
faith in humanity and reverence for the elemental things of life. This justifies the reason behind
him being the greatest interpreter of the Natural life. His love and knowledge for the Nature is
boundless. However, he is no less a poet of men as he gave exceptional significance to the feelings,
emotions and passions of human beings in his

Dialectic Journal of the poems Beowulf , Grendel ,...
Sea against sand; they stowed away
In the hold of the ship their shining armor...
Will the seamen that sailed her sighted the land
Shining cliffs and coastwise hills, (p14, ln 74 83)
The use of consonance here repeats the sound of the wind. Beowulf and his men are going to go
save the Danes. They must cross the sea and the wind acts very favorable and leads them to the
way. The s sound imitates the sound of a swift and light wind, not a treacherous gust.
Foam on her breast, like a bird she flew; (p 14, ln79)
This quote uses personification and smile. The author personifies the ship calling it a she. One
refers to ships often as female, but it also gives the ship qualities of tender and nurture. The ship

He realizes that no one can hurt him. Now that he knows that, he kills more often simply for sport.
This turns him from misunderstood to a monster.
This also isolates him even further. Not only can he not communicate with anyone, but also now
that no one can hurt him, he nothing affects him. He is isolated.
The room goes suddenly white, as if struck by lightening. I stare down, amazed. He has torn off
my arm at the shoulder! Blood pours down where the limb was. (p172)
Grendel s tragic downfall of his death by Beowulf is cause by his self belief. He believes no one
can hurt him so he approaches Beowulf instead of running away. If he was aware of Beowulf, and
realized that he was not like the other men, and instead of thinking, nothing can hurt him, he might
have survived.
The Snow Man
And have been cold a long time
To behold the junipers shagged with ice,
The spruces rough in the distant glitter (ln 4 6)
Enjambment in the poem sets the mood. The mood is that as of a snowfall, quiet cold, settled and
slow. The poem does not need to rush its thoughts into a sentence or a stanza. By separating the
thoughts into different lines and stanzas forces the reader to read slowly as that of a snowfall. The
reader reads the poem peacefully, which depicts the images of a peaceful snow, covered forest.

Emma Goldman Research Paper
You can never envision the world without Emma Goldman. Emma Goldman passed on May 14,
1940. Emma committed her life to the production of a fundamentally social request. Likewise,
she grasped insurgency for its vision; and it offered freedom, concordance, and social equity.
Political agitation, in spite of the fact that its foundations are dated considerably before, was
conceived only two years after Emma s introduction to the world. Bakunin, a Russia progressive,
as Emma was to wind up, split the worldwide socialist development in two, making
revolutionaries. She had a profound duty to supreme opportunity and that drove her to embrace a
scope of disputable causes. Goldman was a radical scholar. Forty years on she is more than
meaningful, she is notorious. The majority of this began with her introduction to the world on
June 27, 1869, in Kovno, Lithuania. Emma moved to New York City where she joined the Yiddish
Anarchist development and met her long lasting buddy, Alexander Berkman. This companionship
turned out to be a definitive event in her life. She contrived with Berkman in his fizzled endeavor
to kill Henry Clay Frick because of his role in the assaults on the strikers at Homestead. Berkman,

Satire In Northanger Abbey
Satire is a literary device used by writers typically to critique society or an individual. It can be
done a variety of ways, including humor, irony, and ridicule. An example of a writer using satire to
critique society would be Jane Austen s Northanger Abbey. Using a variety of techniques, Austen
criticizes how society viewed novels and the people who write them by parodying common tropes
in novels.
Most novels just want to pull the reader in, and make them forget that they are reading a novel, but
Austen does not allow this. The very first line in Northanger Abbey is No one who had ever seen
Catherine Morland in her infancy, would have supposed her born to be a heroine (1). By pointing
out that the main character is supposed to be the heroine, Austen draws attention to the fact that this
is a novel. However, while Catherine is in fact a heroine, it is also states from the beginning that
she does not match the expectations of the average heroine. So right from the beginning, the reader
knows that while this is a novel, it is not going to be a typical one. It is in fact, going to parodying
and critiquing some common aspects of novels. Austen continues on, and not so subtly points out
the ways that Catherine differs from the heroines normally found in novels.
For Catherine s ...situation in life, the character of her father and mother, her own person and
disposition were all equally against her (Austen 1). She was fairly normal and did not have any of
the commonly used characteristics of heroines working in her favor, despite being a heroine herself.
Austen writes Catherine this was to parody the way women are written in novels. There normally
has to be some catalyst that makes the heroine special, different than the average women. However,
Catherine wasn t incredibly poor, had two well tempered parents, and preferred other hobbies ...to
the more heroic enjoyments... (Austen 1) that heroines were normally fond of. By completely
disregarding the characteristics normally attributed to heroines, Austen creates a character that
would not fit into the normal novel. She essentially gives Catherine the character of someone who
is almost the antithesis of what a heroine normally is, and by doing this critiques the

Essay on My Muslim Grandmother s Shock with Canadian Culture
Imagine getting off the plane for the very first time after living the majority of your life in a

grandmother s very first encounter on Canadian soil. To any Western this is a social norm, but to
an Arab woman it is a cultural shock, which is perceived as uncomfortable at the least. Although
she is closed minded, it partially is not her fault, as I have lived with her in Tehran and Dubai two

As diverse characters of the planet, we entirely perceive our surroundings through our very own
paradigm, which is shaped based on identity. When seeing the world through a paradigm one is
effectively viewing and interpreting through a certain filter. For example, if a scientist is
observing an art piece, he may not be able to perceive it through the artist s paradigm and in
order to be a critic of the art, he must understand what the illustrator is trying to portray. Because
art can vary from a detailed painting in such dull colors to a bright coloured rectangle, and to look
at it through a scientific paradigm he will not understand the story behind the art piece. This
rectangle could represent someone s entire life, as would the detailed painting. And for one to
view it through an extremely different paradigm, they may not see past the pretty picture or plain
rectangle . Our religion and where we are raised is a major ingredient to formulating our identity. It
is also why one person may perceive, as kissing in public to being extremely wrong, where as one
may not even notice it. Within the Iranian and Middle Eastern culture, numerous perceive situations
through the rights and wrongs of the Holy Quran. Research also claims that many of the passages
within the Holy Quran ...are meant for human perception and comprehension... (Berrada 45). This

Theory Of Suicide By Durkheim
David Emile Durkheim was a well known French sociologist, social psychologist and
philosopher. He is acknowledged for his establishment of social theory which views sociology as
a natural science subject to empirical study. His book suicide was one of the most prominent
books in the field of sociology. In this book he speaks about how the suiciderate differs among the
Protestants and Catholics saying that there is less number of suicides among the Catholics as they
have stronger social control. According to Durkheim, Catholics are more open to the idea of
accepting new member in the society as compare to the Protestants. There were two criticisms for
this interpretation. Firstly, the data that he collected were from early researchers and secondly this
was only limited to the German speaking Europe. But despite its limitations his theory was one of

They feel isolated from the society and this pushes them to kill themselves. Despite being it an
individual act its root is society. Hence, it is a social phenomenon. This is borne out of the fact
that those who kill themselves are old people. Old age can bring both suicide and depression.
Studies have shown that older people show less social interaction and more depression. For
older people, their social circle has become lesser and sometimes they do not have anyone to talk
to for one whole day. This can lead to depression as man is a social animal and he need the
companionship of others for survival. The fact that they have to go out sometimes like to churches
give them the opportunity to mingle with other people hence this will avoid depression which
leads to suicide among the elders. The fact that an individual feels alone in the society may lead to
depression and at the end lead to suicide. This clearly shows that suicide is a social phenomena and
how much society influences the life of an

A local area network (LAN) is a computer network that connects computers in an area with limited
space such as a home, school, computer laboratory, or office building, using network media.
A Wide Area Network, or WAN, is made up of many computer networks connected together, often

Local area networks (LANs). An example of where MANs are used, are the networks on a campus

The packet footer contains data that implies the end of the packet, such as a special sequence of

Use Of Social Media On The World
You are driving in the car with your family, it is silent, and you are thoroughly intrigued in your
Twitter feed. You decide to take a snapchat, instead of being present in the moment. You argue
through text with your best friend, instead of meeting and talking it out. In our world today,
technology is a necessity. Smartphones have given people the ability to connect globally, through
apps, allowing us to connect to those we could not before. It may seem hard to believe, but
technological communication was only apparent after the 1960 s. From letters that would take
months to get to its destination, to now simply sending a text that will deliver in a matter of
seconds. While face to face communication began to fade, the use of pigeon delivered letters
became obsolete. Once technology was discovered, communication gradually transformed, and is
still developing. With the world becoming so connected, being thousands of miles away is no
longer a barrier. The overall use of social media is leading to the decline in face to face interaction.
As technology begins to develop more, the less time we spend verbally communicating with one
another. A recent study from USC Annenberg School, found that the percentage of people
participating in less face to face communication rose from 8% in 2000 to 34% in 2011 (USC Digital
Future). Even during the most crucial times, such as dinner time, many families substitute
technology for conversations. Being subjected to this behavior, kids

Autonomy Against Spain
In Negotiating Spain and Catalonia: Competing Narratives of National Identity, author Fernando
Leon Solis examines the various motivational factors for Catalonia s push for autonomy within
Spain. The author makes a compelling case as to how and why Catalonia is attempting to gain
autonomy. Solis believes that the main motivation for Catalonian autonomy is the conflict over the
definition of Catalan identity, which, Catalans believe, can only fully be established under regional
autonomy. Solis argues that if the Catalan National political party, Convergencia I Unio, can come
to an agreement with the majority party in parliament, Partido Popular, then Cataloniamay receive
regional autonomy. Additionally, Solis believes that the Catalans are not seeking national
independence, but rather they wish for a high level of autonomy within Spain. It is important to...

Solis relies on journals, such as those found in La Vanguardia, to examine the positions of different
political currents. However, Solis s main flaw in his argument is that he does not provide readers
with enough information on the Spanish government structure. When addressing the importance of
the 2000 election, Solis mentions how the Partido Popular chose to form a coalition with
Convergencia I Unio, even though they did not have to form such a government in order to form a
majority in parliament. Without a working knowledge of how a coalition government works, why it
is formed and how it is beneficial, the average reader may not be able to fully grasp the importance
of the 2000 election. However, this is only a minor weakness. Ultimately, Solis is highly successful
in laying out a convincing argument and demonstrating why Catalonian people, who have a strong
attachment to their cultural identity, wish to gain autonomy within

The Relationship Between The Arts And The Growing Body Of...
The periods of the Renaissance, Baroque and Rococo were periods not only for the art
flourishment but also, for the scientific knowledge growth. So, in those periods, the relationship
between art and science was so clear and attractive. This essay will discuss the relationship between
the arts and the growing body of scientific knowledge during the three major stylistic periods. In
addition to explaining how the artists used new scientific knowledge in their work.
In the Middle Ages, the church had banned the studying of the human body, and the artists did not
depict it. That could be because they consider the human body to be guilty, sinful and the cause of

One can really think that Moses is looking at them due to its accurate details and measurements.
Moreover, the rediscovery of the linear perspective by Brunelleschi, and the invention of the
printing press in the periods of the Italian and Northern Renaissance affected the art. (Dauben, n.d.).
Also, they show the relationship between art and science obviously. To say it clearly, with the
linear perspective we managed to feel ourselves belonging to the paintings as space and
dimensions became enough for us to place ourselves there. Also, thanks to it, we can see the
design for buildings the same way it will look in the real world. Brunelleschi s elevation of Santo
Spirito was the first painting using this technique. So, I think it is the best example to show that.
Moving to the Baroque period, there was development in different fields of the scientific
knowledge. It was the time when people looked through the microscopes for the first time, and
when Sir Bacon put the basis for the scientific thinking using hypothesis testing. (Wolford, n.d.).
So, I will choose one of Galilei s paintings, namely Frontispiece for the Opere di Galileo Galilei to
represent this period. This painting shows how art, represented in Galilei, is connected to
Mathematics, optics, and astronomy. I think Galilei wanted to say that art is a science, and it can t
be separated away from the other sciences.

A Rhetorical Analysis Of In Cold Blood
ICB Rhetorical Analysis
Truman Capote, author of In Cold Blood, builds the setting of the small town of Holcomb,
Kansas. His purpose is to emphasize that the town of Holcomb is a small town where no one
comes and no one leaves. He includes these details to show the contrast between the town before
and after the murders of the Clutter family to the reader.
Capote begins to describe the setting by referring to Holcomb as a village, unknown to most
people, even fellow Kansans. The effect of this is to highlight that the town is small and
secluded. Capote mentions that the local accent is a barbed wire with a prairie twang, pinpointing
that the village is closed off to the outside world. The streets are unpaved and unnamed; Capote
adds this detail to continue to affirm to the reader that no one comes into Holcomb because the
people of Holcomb already know where everything is and if people did come into Holcomb, they
would need to have named streets. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

ever uses the post office. The effect of this ties into how the town isn t kept up as well as how
nothing and no one comes in or out of

treated cruelly as a child. In result, they are more likely to raise and treat their children cruelly.
Children who are treated with cruelty at a young age affects how they treat others for the rest of
their lives. In The Roots of Evil by Sharon Begley, Begley states that if a child suffers extreme
neglect or cruelty, especially from a trusted friend or beloved relative, the results often shame and ...

For example, in The Book of Genesis , Adam and Eve were created to do well, instead they did
commit evil doings by disobeying God s commands. The Book of Genesis says, And when the
woman saw the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be
desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her
husband with her; and he did eat ( Kings James Version, Genesis 3:06). This proves that both
Adam and Eve disobeyed God s commands and were subject to being influenced by evil and wrong
doings. Adam and Eve had great guidance during their childhood which resulted in them knowing
the difference between good and evil. In The Book of Genesis God says, Behold, the man is
become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also the
tree of life, and eat, and live forever (Kings James Version, Genesis 3:22). Now since man knows
the difference between right and wrong, man is less likely to commit wrong doings. The way

How Does Walter Mitty Study The Benefits Of Daydreaming
In the short story, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty by James Thurber is about a man who gets

laudable pilot, a millionaire banker, a marksman s, audacious WW2 pilot. Recently in class, we
have studied the benefits of daydreaming, and I will be explaining how Walter Mitty uses it to his
advantage to get by in his mundane life. First, Walter Mitty uses daydreaming by trying to recall
previous thoughts and memories he has heard. In the article The Virtues of Daydreaming it
explains those who are more prone to mind wandering tend to be better at generating new ideas .

The Death Of William Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet
David was not the only artist to be fascinated and inspired by historic suicides. Suicide is not an
uncommon subject of paintings, or any of the arts for that matter. On the contrary, suicide can be
glorified to a certain extent, in the way that a novel or film can romanticize the act without the
brutality or consequences being addressed. Suicidecan appear heroic in the face of a evil. It can
appear to be a triumphant escape from a cruel world. Suicide can even look romantic when
portrayed as the conclusion to a love story, like in Romeo and Juliet, a masterpiece by the beloved
William Shakespeare. Death itself is dramatic, but there is something more to beyond the gruesome
or romantic aspects of death, particularly when it comes to suicide. The Death of Socratesmanages
to grip the viewer with its dramatic climax to death, yet saying something more with it s imagery.
The Death of Socrates effortlessly channels utter despair, and yet, unwavering defiance. The
painting comprises of the moments just before Socrates ends his own life (Metropolitan Museum
of Art). His followers sit beside him weeping in horror as Socrates prepares to die. Socrates
himself holds his left hand high up, finger in the air in staunch defiance, all while his right hand
hovers over the cup of Hemlock. The sunlight beams through a window in the upper left hand
corner, gazing down on the scene about to unravel. The man handing Socrates the Hemlock looks
away in shame or fear as he hands the poison

The Mystery Of Capital Hernando De Soto
Is land registration sufficient to create wealth in the society?
In this essay, I will try to find out if the registration of land rights is sufficient to create wealth in
the society, by emphasising if land registration is instrumental in enhancing smallholders access to
credit thereby enabling economic growth. The basis for my essay will be The mystery of capital
by Hernando De Soto.
In The mystery of capital Hernando De Soto argues that the underlying reason that capitalisation
fails in many countries is the lack of a formalized property system. Because of this, property is
considered dead capital , and its ability to produce value beyond its natural state is inaccessible

Where is the credit?
That formal title enables access to credit and therefor increases economic productivity is one of De
Soto s core arguments for formalization. By contrast, empirical studies in sub Saharan African
have failed to establish the link between title and access to credit for smallholder s farmers.
Thereby determining that poor people with title are no more likely to obtain loans from commercial

Portrayal Of Female Character In Sita And Jaya
Portrayal of female character by Devdutt Pattanaik in his book Sita and Jaya
In the Hindu Mythology some women are portrayed as the role model for all the women. Sita,
Savitri, Draupadi, Ahalya and Arundhati are the five women that are considered to be the role
model. The women in the Hindu Indian tradition are asked to obey their husbands no matter what
they feel. This tradition imprints this in the minds and hearts of the women. If women do not
follow this tradition then they will have to face the problems that their role models portrayed in
the Epics have faced. Those five women are put on the pedestals of pride and honour. Sita and

Different Aspects Of School Involvement Towards Health And...
Different aspects of school involvement towards health and wellness has long been thought to
influence students. Research argues that health promoting lifestyle activities maintain or improve
individual s health and wellness (reference). Researchers suggest that health promotion includes a
process of empowerment of the community to act on the improvement of their life and health
qualities (research) A closer look into a healthy lifestyle begins at childhood. Healthy lunches
promote physical activity and healthy diets. Schoollunches need to have nutritional value and a well
balanced nutritionscale including fruits, grains, vegetables, protein and dairy. Recess enhances
health and academic benefits. Recess involves more than just stimulating indoor activities, but also
simply thirty minutes of exerciseoutside. Moreover, the healthy lifestyle needs promotion by an
authoritative figure or institution. Many students rely on teachers, principals, nurses, etc. to teach
them the essentials of health because parents may lack the knowledge to do so.
In a school setting, health promotion entails providing students with educational courses, activities,
school lunches, and recess. All of these factors contribute immensely to the balance of a student s
life. Control must be given to the student to allow them to improve their health and cause a rise in
awareness. The purpose of this study evaluates the methods that public and private middle schools

Manganese And The Role Of The Human Body
MANGANESE AND THE ROLE IT PLAYS IN THE HUMAN BODY
Introduction
Manganese is one of sixteen known minerals that are essential within the human diet (wardlaw).
Minerals, such as manganese, are considered essential to the diet of humans if their absence results
in physiological or structural abnormalities and their presence prevents disease/illness (wardlaw).
The body utilizes manganese primarily in energy metabolism and within the antioxidant systems
(wardlaw). Manganese is found primarily in parts of the body such as the liver, pancreas, kidneys
and bones (Ehrlich).
The Chemical Properties of Manganese
Manganese (Mn) is a member of the periodic family of transition metals. Transition metals have one
or more stable ions that do not have complete d orbitals. Manganese has the atomic number twenty
five, ie. the nucleus contains twenty five protons. Taking into consideration the abundance of
various Manganese isotopes, the atomic weight was found to be 54.9380amu.
Dietary Reference Intake
Manganese does not have a Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) due to insufficient
information, however, the Food and Nutrition Board has set an Adequate Intake. The Adequate
Intake was formulated based on observed and experimentally determined approximations of
manganese by populations of good health status. In healthy adults, the AI for men is 2.3mg/day and
1.8mg/day for women (wardlow). The need for dietary manganese increases with pregnancy and
lactation (2.0 2.6 mg/day) (linus pauling).

Agony In The Garden Essay
Renaissance art incorporated many new artistic techniques as well as religious themes from the
Middle Ages. The defining style of Renaissance art was realism, realistic depictions of landscapes
and the human form. Agony in the Garden features incredibly ideal and accurate human
anatomical structure with the figures of Jesus and his disciples Peter, James and John having
realistic expressions and positions. The desert landscape contains a very realistic depiction of sand
and nature. It also incorporates the law of perspective to give the illusion of three dimensions
within a two dimensional artwork by making things appear farther away than the main focus of the
painting. Bellini also used light with beams and shadows to achieve this effect and

Analysis Of The Article Dear Students Don t Let...
Corrupt college professors are ruining students chances of getting a quality education. Students will
typically get that hunch that a professor might be out the get them, but in reality those professors
are actually out to get the whole student body. When these decrepit professors are in the classroom,
they are not hip on modern teaching methods. This is detrimental to a student who just needs a
quality education to keep up with the competitive working world that we have come to today. The
article Dear Students: Don t Let College Unplug Your Future is an effective argument to convince
incoming freshmen at Brigham Young Universityand current BYU freshmen not to let the academic
tradition get in the way of their learning by the use of allusions, colloquial diction, anecdotes and
humor to establish a bond of trust between himself and the reader.
Throughout the article Gideon Burton uses colloquial diction to put himself at the reader s level.
Holy trapped in old school , is a prime example of the many uses of colloquial diction that he has
woven in and out of the pages of his article (47). He uses this to have more of an effect on the
expected audience. He knows that the young college kids do not want to read ten pages of a verbose
professor ranting about how he believes that the internet is needed in college. He would have a
limited audience without the diction that he uses. This creates a bond between Gideon and the
audience. His use of diction automatically helps him to

Persuasive Essay On How To Keep It Cool During A Hot Winter
Keeping it Cool during a Hot Perth Summer
Without a doubt, if you have lived in Perth during the summer months, you already know how hot,
humid, wet, and uncomfortable the summer season can be. Being able to keep the heat and
moisture out of your home is a matter of prior planning. Here are some great tips on how to keep
your home cool without using lots of electricity.
The Windows
1. Having tall plants or trees that shade the outside of your home helps to keep the heat away from
entering through your windows.
2. Shading your windows from the outside helps to prevent nearly 75 percent of the solar heat from
reaching the windows. This can easily be done with awnings, overhanging eaves, up and down
rolling shutters, bamboo shades, and self applying reflective film.
3. Whether you have curtains or window blinds, keep them closing during the daylight hours,
especially during the peak heat generating hours of 3 to 6 PM. Light colored curtains are more
effective than darker colored ones. White blinds are effective in reflecting sunlight, and in keeping
solar heat away from the interior rooms cool.
4. Install UV Ray and Sunlight reflective window panes. This not only keeps the humidity and heat
out of your home, it will also reduce your dependence on your air conditioner.
5. Try to keep your windows closed at all times. However, it is totally fine to open your windows, if
you have screen covers, during the evenings if you live in an area that is significantly cooler

Analysis Of The Scholarly Article Offshore Aquifers By...
In the scholarly article Offshore Aquifers by Renee Martin Nagle, she discusses the discovery of
fresh water sources being found in the ocean. Nagle talks about the water shortage not only are
an issue for California, but also the entire world. She talks about how there are two different
types of aquifers, recharging and non recharging aquifers. Recharging aquifers are aquifers are
linked with the surface and receive its water reserves from rainwater, streams, rivers, and runoff.
They are commonly found close to the surface. They are more susceptible to over use and
pollution. Non recharging aquifers are usually found deep beneath the surface, and porous rocks,
buried beneath a solid layer of sedimentary limestone or dolomite rock. The water found in the
non recharging aquifers arrives there because it gets trapped there when tectonic plates shift, and
sea levels where much lower 20,000 years ago when the Siberian land bridge allowed humans to
travel from Asia to the Americas. Nagle also discussed both pro s and con s of extracting the water
from the ocean. It will not be an easy task because while the United States is fighting a water
shortage, attempting to mine the water from the ocean could cause huge irreversible damage to the
ecosystem of the ocean and pollution to the environment. If the drilling is not done very carefully,
the entire water supplycould be contaminated. Nagle discusses that the underwater drilling would
be comparable to drilling oil

Objective Psychology and Psychoanalysis Essay
1.Objective psychology and psychoanalysis have much in common. Wulff compares these studies
on page two hundred and fifty eight by stating both reject unaided introspection as a means of
gathering fundamental data. In other words, in neither psychoanalysis nor objective psychology,
can a person take an observation made from themselves about themselves and consider it
fundamental data. Another similarity would be that human conduct is the outcome of complexly
determined casual events that lie outside awareness (258). In this particular case, both types of
science believe that the way we act is an outcome of more than one event that may have occurred
outside of our knowing. An example could be being stressed out or feeling anxiety.... Show more

On the other side you have the psychoanalysts who draw their evidence from the private inner
world of the individual psyche (258). Where objective psychologists use observations that are
accessible to all sciences and observers the psychoanalyst draw all of their conclusion on facts that
come from studies of the individual s brain. This makes the psychoanalysts become participant
observers in the lives of their suffering patients (258). That is, they use longer studies that, at times,
become personal and intimate. The objective psychologists use terse and quantified responses of
randomly selected subjects (258). These studies are shorter and not personal because the patients or
subjects are picked randomly and completely unrelated.
2.In Sigmund Freud s studies, he studied religion and how it reflected on people during different
stages of his life. The stages he comes to discover were those of the oral stage, anal stage, phallic
stage, and the genital stage. All of these stages are related to how a child reacts to mothers and
fathers and how the Oedipus complex plays a role from infancy through adulthood. The way Freud
believed these stages started and progressed are involved with his two theories of psychology. One
is the ontogenetic theory, which is most enhanced by Freud, and the phylogenetic theory which is
the theory by Freud that is the most criticized. The ontogenetic theory is a theory designed

The Consumer Right Act ( Cra )
Introduction
In 2015, the Consumer Right Act (CRA) has been passed by the Parliament to provide further
protection and guidelines for consumers. One of the aims of the Act is to provide remedies for
consumers when they receive faulty goods or the goods that no longer meet their needs. Under
section 20(4), it entitles the consumer to reject the goods and treat the contract as at and end. Also,
under section 20(7) (a), it entitles the consumers to exercise the short term rights to reject the
goods while section 22(3) outlines the standard period for exercising the rights is 30 days as
suggested by the Law Commission. However, there is criticism that standard period of 30 days is
inflexible. Therefore, the following paragraphs will analyse whether the 30 days is a suitable time
limit for the rejection and whether the standard period that set by the law is flexible or not.
30 Days An Acceptable Standard or Not
As mentioned above, the standard period of 30 days was adopted by the suggestion of the Law
Commission in the report.
Under the current law, there are difficulties for both retailers and consumers to interpret for
reasonable time to reject the goods as there is no clarification or explanation on the relevant factors
of reasonable time . Accordingly, the Law Commission stated that the standard period of 30 days
would be simpler than the current law. The Confederation of British Industry which agreed that by

Municipal Act Case Study
Throughout the entire unit, it is evident change is needed. Government cannot to continue to
operate as it has historically. Municipalities exist because the Province allows them to, but together
they must collaborate to discover optimum methods for survival instead of the municipal blame
game and rely on provincial/federal levels to bail them out. Private partnership development
exploration is vital for fiscally responsible service delivery. It is imperative rural vs urban
similarities and difficulties are scrutinized as they are dependent upon each other for survival yet
the struggle for the continued economic sustainability of same proves strenuous.
Entities cannot be treated the same, it is not realistic. The Toronto Act was developed to
specifically address issues which appeared only pertinent to the GTA. The Municipal Act was
developed to deal with the rest of Ontario. There are other constituencies which would benefit
from a Toronto Act for their relevant needs. From Northern Ontario, to growing metropolitan
cities to border cities, farming and petrochemical industries the difficulties and diversity is
tangible. Economic development and downfalls shift greatly across different regions at various
times and can affect each other immensely. There must be practices developed so these shifts can
be addressed and accommodated for. We can not continue to operate unilaterally or in silos if
Ontario is to prosper. It is a partnership. A cultural shift is obligatory to move forward for success.

Theme Of Women In Steel Magnolias
During the play Steel Magnolias, Robert Harling shows a portrait of women from the fictional town
of Chinquapin that portrays the common, familiar, and nostalgic environment of a small town
beauty salon during the 1980s. Encompassing not only the extensive range of female friendship, the
play also covers the safe spaces for women and how men and women relate. Harling covers loss,
love, strength, and family throughout this work that is so unextraordinary yet amazing at the same
time, fully highlighting human strength that often goes unnoticed. By showing how women simply
interact with each other on an everyday basis, the audience is able to fully recognize the strength
of character that permeates all people in small ways. A gripping tale of dedication and
unconditional love, Steel Magnoliasremains a poignant work that is still valid today. The play
takes place in Truvy s Beauty Salon, the haven of the women of the town and the house of Truvy
Jones. At the start of the play, Annelle, a young, untrained woman seeking a new job at Truvy s.
Although Annelle is not particularly talented at doing hair, Truvy still gives her the job out of
sympathy, thinking that she can teach her how to do it. Next, Clairee, one of Truvy s regular
customers and friends enters. As Clairee has never met Annelle she tries to learn more about her to
no avail. Annelle then leaves the room, so the women gossip about her, her background, and her
character. Then, Shelby, another regular, enters the salon

Why Is Screen Time Bad
Screen Time is Bad Did you know that screen time is tied with health problems crazy right?
Screen time can also lead to higher levels of overweight and it can leads to shorter attention
spans, mental problems, or even sadness. Screen time is a distraction to school work and that
can be bad for their grades because at school they will be thinking about games and not be paying
attention to the teacher or they skip doing their homework which can help understand things they
don t pick up from class. Also it can introduce cyber bullying to kids which is bad and may make
them depressed. But the good thing about it is that you can call anyone in case of an emergency or
you can call them to see where they are. What I am stating in this paragraph

They are merchants of grain with hired help who take their social power very seriously. Lorenzo,
one of their lead workers who takes care of their business is the handsome young man that
Ellisabetta falls heads over heels for. She and Lorenzo share the same compassion and love for one
another and they ignore the social acceptance of their relationship.
Unfortunately, Ellisabetta s brothers are not in agreement with this love affair and are furious
about the disgrace to their family. They are so disturbed about this relationship that they kill
Lorenzo. This misfortune, in turn, creates a major change in their sister s behavior causing her
to be unhappy at all times and without any desire to do anything other than cry. Furthermore,
one night Ellisabetta has a dream where Lorenzo appears and tells her that her brothers killed
him and where they buried him. Ellisabetta, being so blindly in love, went out the next morning
to confirm her dream. To her surprise she found Lorenzo s dead body. Her first reaction was to
take him along with her. Since, he was too heavy, she decided to take his head. This behavior
reflects a girl s first and only love that keeps her from forgetting that life goes on. Ellisabetta
demonstrates without Lorenzo there is no meaning in life. She could only keep living with a part
of him by putting his head in a pot. Ellisabetta buries it with dirt and plants basil over it. This
plant becomes her savior or peace that keeps her alive. Her

Cognitive Stage Of Middle Childhood Development
Family Dynamics Anthony Darey Argosy University Cognitive Stage of Middle Childhood The
1970 s was my era of middle childhood development. This was still a time of turmoil and racial
inequality. Being a black child gave me few advantages growing up during this time. I attended
decent schools, lived in a middle class neighborhood, and was socially active. I was a nerd, but
not in the best sense of the word. I was smart but I was lazy. School was boring to me. I knew the
work, but I did not want to do the work. This fact was related back to my parents via my teachers
( grades 6th 8th). My nickname was Tony but I was pinned as the Professor by my family. Like I
said, I knew the work I just did not do the work. The nickname made me feel good and bad at the
same time. I liked the acknowledgement that I was being recognized for being smart but I hated
the fact that I was also expected to live up to the nickname. This was also the beginning of a state
of confusion and asserting my independence. Discovering just who I was and in what direction
my life was going. (Erikson, 1968) Today I don t consider myself the same way. I pat myself on
the back when I do a good job, but when I do poorly I kick myself in the butt. The difference now
is I care one way or the other about the outcome. I was brought up in an authoritative environment,
that is to say I did as I was told and did not question why.It is

How Does Gluttony Consume Our Culture
Gluttony When people think about Gluttony, they picture a fat slob. However, there are two
different types of gluttony, which are gluttonies of delicacy and excess. The medieval s five ways
of sinning by gluttony depicts this dichotomy of gluttony perfectly. These include, eating and
drinking too soon, too expensively, too much, too eagerly, and with too much fuss (Guinness 213).
Gluttonyhas consumed our culture because we see it as the smallest of the seven deadly sinsand
most people do not even see gluttony as a sin! Steering Through Chaos demonstrates how gluttony
has pervaded our culture because of a moral emptiness, how the only cure is courage through
suffering, and how gluttony can affect my life. The gluttony of excess encompasses the first four
of the medieval ways to sin through gluttony. These four problems all associate to people who are
gluttonous in that they devour food. Time magazine gave a stupendous example when they
reported, An easy to spot glutton was the gigantic man who waddled into a Sir George s
Smorgasbord House branch in the San... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This type of courage counters gluttony thanks to dedication, discipline, and patience. Courage is
also the opposite of gluttony because gluttony devours in an attempt to feel whole yet ends up
losing, whereas; courage is, a form of being consumed that seems to lose, yet ends in finding
(Guinness 234). John of the cross validates this when he says, Men and women consume and are
consumed by many things, some of which only shrink and debase them. But the ultimate
consumption and the grand counterpoint to gluttony is a human being ablaze with the glory of
God as if consumed with divine fire (Guinness 237). John is showing how courage that seemed to
lose by giving up everything for Jesus Christ ends up gaining everything through

How Would A Trade Union Impact On My Family
The International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail, and Transportation Workers has had an
immense impact on my life. My father has been part of this union for over twenty years and it has
been very important for my family. This union has not only helped my family, but it has also made
my childhood very enjoyable with all of the events that are hosted for the families of union
members. The union has hosted an annual Christmasparty that was welcome for my familyto attend,
it has picnics in the summer for all to enjoy, and most importantly, the union has helped my family
financially.
There were many events hosted by the union every year and the annual union Christmas party
that was held for all union members was my favourite one to attend, especially as a child. Every
Christmas, I would look forward to this party because I loved the presents I received and taking
pictures with Santa, which was my favourite thing to do during the Christmas season. The gifts
were always amazing and I will always be thankful for them because they really lifted up my
spirits, especially seeing all of the children at the event ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was a pleasure to meet many different people. It was a great chance to spend time with my
family outdoors, as well as with other people in the community. I had the freedom to run around
outside and have fun with the other children that were there. I was able to meet some of my
father s friends and their children, who I have continued to keep in touch with because we have
become great friends. Through these events, I have also heard about how the union has also
helped other families as I matured and I am very thankful that my father is part of this union. It
was wonderful that all of these people were willing to share their story with me. Without these
social gatherings, I would not have met all of these wonderful people and I would not have had

Punk Rock Essay
Punk rock is a unique and changing musical genre that was born in both England and the United
States in the late 1970s. A largely underground music scene with a reliance on a rejection of
societies norms, dismissal of capitalism and consumption, heavy reliance on community, and a
strong attitude of do it yourself and self empowerment, punk continues to have a large influence on
the contemporary music scene. Punk rock, however, has faced issues when dealing with concepts
of sex and gender. Bands within the scene are usually composed of males, women are objectified
in song lyrics, and masculine values like aggressiveness and violence are often glamorized,
especially in sub genres of punk such as hardcore punk. But women have managed,... Show more

After the demise of many hardcore bands in the mid Eighties, bands such as Bad Religion kept
the scene going, and were influences towards punk bands that would later go on to much
mainstream success such as Green Day, The Offspring, and Blink 182. One specific moment in
punk rock history that deals specifically with women, as well as issues of sex and gender, is the
development of the Riot Grrrl movement in the early 1990 s. This movement came mostly out
of the punk rock scene in Olympia, WA and Washington D.C. Women found themselves pushed
out of punk due to the increasing aggressiveness in the punk scene, especially at concerts . Bands
like Bikini Kill, and fan publishes magazines ( zines ) such as Jigsaw began to address the issue
of women in punk rock. The first Riot Grrl Convention was held in Washington, D.C. in 1992.
There were seminars dealing with writing zines and buying guitars, as well as dealing with eating
disorder and fighting sexism. Punk rock, and specifically the Riot Grrrl movement, has been used
to empower women and give them control over their lives. Punk s celebration of the individual,
and its embrace of those who challenge the norms and standards of society, made it the perfect
culture for women who refused to accept society s notions of femininity and gender roles. This is a
tradition that has a long history within feminist theory. Groups such as the Radicalesbians and the
Combahee River Collective challenged the

  • 2. Violence Tends To Threaten The Organization Of Society. Violence tends to threaten the organization of society. In today s society violence is permeated in almost every aspect of our daily lives. Violence in our society enters our homes, workplace, and schools and especially in the media. Violence is the intentional action or inaction causing physical, sexual and psychological injury, including battering, pornography, sexual assault, incest, child abuse and sexual harassment. Advertisers use sex to get our attention and they make claims about their product s ability to make us popular, attractive and successful. In my opinion ads affect us in potentially damaging ways. The ads portray bodies, especially those of women as objects, which forces us to seeing each other in dehumanizing ways.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In today s society there have been many instances of workplace violence that has included physical assaults, threats, verbal abuse, beatings, stabbing, rapes, obscene phone calls and shootings. I think this is due in fact by increasing social and economic factors. At my place of employment, we have many instances of work place violence involving staff on staff, as well as inmate against staff. Working in such a volatile situation has kind of desensitized me to these acts and I have found myself needing counseling and the use of anti depressants to just get through the workweek. Being surrounded by violence and violent individuals has a negative effect on those subjected to it on a regular basis. Many people working in this field deny that they are affected by it emotionally, however the reality of it shows in the high rates of suicide and divorce amongst correctional staff. 2.Compare psychological theories of aggression, in particular, the catharsis and social learning theories. The psychological theories of aggression are that it is shaped by the brain and also involves genetic factors. Aggression is a drive that is common to most animals and humans. Beth answered, Yeah, more head on definitely. It s a really horrifying issue to deal with, and you don t want to do it. • 4. Essay On The Age Of Wordsworth The Age of Wordsworth (1798 1832) is considered to have begun with the joint publication of Lyrical Ballads by the Lake Poets , William Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor Coleridge. The poetry of this age witnessed altering of the theme from public and impersonal to subjective. Common people and common things were given the most importance. Depiction of countryside, rural life, pastoral life and Nature was common. The subject of the poetryswitched from facts, reasons to the world of imagination, passion, and senses. Imagination is the soul of romantic poetry. Poets employed it to experience transcendentalism and spirituality. Emotions were the bed rock of romanticism. It took over reason and logic. Poets talked about the elementary passions of human beings, derived through the senses eyes, nose, ears. It was marked with super naturalism and was devoid of materialism. They had a vision of the mystic and mysterious forces whom they called the divine. To complement the subject of poetry, the language used by the poets was simple and rustic, the one that is spoken by common people. There was no stereotypical and conventional diction. Poets used various forms of meter. Rhyme and rhythm wasn t their actual concern, expressing the emotions and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Emma committed her life to the production of a fundamentally social request. Likewise, she grasped insurgency for its vision; and it offered freedom, concordance, and social equity. Political agitation, in spite of the fact that its foundations are dated considerably before, was conceived only two years after Emma s introduction to the world. • 8. Satire In Northanger Abbey Satire is a literary device used by writers typically to critique society or an individual. It can be done a variety of ways, including humor, irony, and ridicule. An example of a writer using satire to critique society would be Jane Austen s Northanger Abbey. Using a variety of techniques, Austen criticizes how society viewed novels and the people who write them by parodying common tropes in novels. Most novels just want to pull the reader in, and make them forget that they are reading a novel, but Austen does not allow this. The very first line in Northanger Abbey is No one who had ever seen Catherine Morland in her infancy, would have supposed her born to be a heroine (1). By pointing out that the main character is supposed to be the heroine, Austen draws attention to the fact that this is a novel. However, while Catherine is in fact a heroine, it is also states from the beginning that she does not match the expectations of the average heroine. So right from the beginning, the reader knows that while this is a novel, it is not going to be a typical one. It is in fact, going to parodying and critiquing some common aspects of novels. Austen continues on, and not so subtly points out the ways that Catherine differs from the heroines normally found in novels. For Catherine s ...situation in life, the character of her father and mother, her own person and disposition were all equally against her (Austen 1). She was fairly normal and did not have any of the commonly used characteristics of heroines working in her favor, despite being a heroine herself. Austen writes Catherine this was to parody the way women are written in novels. There normally has to be some catalyst that makes the heroine special, different than the average women. However, Catherine wasn t incredibly poor, had two well tempered parents, and preferred other hobbies ...to the more heroic enjoyments... (Austen 1) that heroines were normally fond of. By completely disregarding the characteristics normally attributed to heroines, Austen creates a character that would not fit into the normal novel. As diverse characters of the planet, we entirely perceive our surroundings through our very own paradigm, which is shaped based on identity. When seeing the world through a paradigm one is effectively viewing and interpreting through a certain filter. For example, if a scientist is observing an art piece, he may not be able to perceive it through the artist s paradigm and in order to be a critic of the art, he must understand what the illustrator is trying to portray. Because art can vary from a detailed painting in such dull colors to a bright coloured rectangle, and to look at it through a scientific paradigm he will not understand the story behind the art piece. This rectangle could represent someone s entire life, as would the detailed painting. And for one to view it through an extremely different paradigm, they may not see past the pretty picture or plain rectangle . Our religion and where we are raised is a major ingredient to formulating our identity. Hence, it is a social phenomenon. This is borne out of the fact that those who kill themselves are old people. Old age can bring both suicide and depression. Studies have shown that older people show less social interaction and more depression. For older people, their social circle has become lesser and sometimes they do not have anyone to talk to for one whole day. This can lead to depression as man is a social animal and he need the companionship of others for survival. The fact that they have to go out sometimes like to churches give them the opportunity to mingle with other people hence this will avoid depression which leads to suicide among the elders. You decide to take a snapchat, instead of being present in the moment. You argue through text with your best friend, instead of meeting and talking it out. In our world today, technology is a necessity. Smartphones have given people the ability to connect globally, through apps, allowing us to connect to those we could not before. It may seem hard to believe, but technological communication was only apparent after the 1960 s. From letters that would take months to get to its destination, to now simply sending a text that will deliver in a matter of seconds. While face to face communication began to fade, the use of pigeon delivered letters became obsolete. Once technology was discovered, communication gradually transformed, and is still developing. With the world becoming so connected, being thousands of miles away is no longer a barrier. The overall use of social media is leading to the decline in face to face interaction. As technology begins to develop more, the less time we spend verbally communicating with one another. A recent study from USC Annenberg School, found that the percentage of people participating in less face to face communication rose from 8% in 2000 to 34% in 2011 (USC Digital Future). Autonomy Against Spain In Negotiating Spain and Catalonia: Competing Narratives of National Identity, author Fernando Leon Solis examines the various motivational factors for Catalonia s push for autonomy within Spain. The author makes a compelling case as to how and why Catalonia is attempting to gain autonomy. Solis argues that if the Catalan National political party, Convergencia I Unio, can come to an agreement with the majority party in parliament, Partido Popular, then Cataloniamay receive regional autonomy. This essay will discuss the relationship between the arts and the growing body of scientific knowledge during the three major stylistic periods. In addition to explaining how the artists used new scientific knowledge in their work. In the Middle Ages, the church had banned the studying of the human body, and the artists did not depict it. Moreover, the rediscovery of the linear perspective by Brunelleschi, and the invention of the printing press in the periods of the Italian and Northern Renaissance affected the art. (Dauben, n.d.). Also, they show the relationship between art and science obviously. To say it clearly, with the linear perspective we managed to feel ourselves belonging to the paintings as space and dimensions became enough for us to place ourselves there. Also, thanks to it, we can see the design for buildings the same way it will look in the real world. Brunelleschi s elevation of Santo Spirito was the first painting using this technique. So, I think it is the best example to show that. Moving to the Baroque period, there was development in different fields of the scientific knowledge. It was the time when people looked through the microscopes for the first time, and when Sir Bacon put the basis for the scientific thinking using hypothesis testing. (Wolford, n.d.). So, I will choose one of Galilei s paintings, namely Frontispiece for the Opere di Galileo Galilei to represent this period. This painting shows how art, represented in Galilei, is connected to Mathematics, optics, and astronomy. I think Galilei wanted to say that art is a science, and it can t be separated away from the other sciences. In the Rococo ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 19. A Rhetorical Analysis Of In Cold Blood ICB Rhetorical Analysis Truman Capote, author of In Cold Blood, builds the setting of the small town of Holcomb, Kansas. His purpose is to emphasize that the town of Holcomb is a small town where no one comes and no one leaves. He includes these details to show the contrast between the town before and after the murders of the Clutter family to the reader. Capote begins to describe the setting by referring to Holcomb as a village, unknown to most people, even fellow Kansans. The effect of this is to highlight that the town is small and secluded. Capote mentions that the local accent is a barbed wire with a prairie twang, pinpointing that the village is closed off to the outside world. The streets are unpaved and unnamed; Capote adds this detail to continue to affirm to the reader that no one comes into Holcomb because the people of Holcomb already know where everything is and if people did come into Holcomb, they would need to have named streets. ... Suicide is not an uncommon subject of paintings, or any of the arts for that matter. On the contrary, suicide can be glorified to a certain extent, in the way that a novel or film can romanticize the act without the brutality or consequences being addressed. Suicidecan appear heroic in the face of a evil. It can appear to be a triumphant escape from a cruel world. Suicide can even look romantic when portrayed as the conclusion to a love story, like in Romeo and Juliet, a masterpiece by the beloved William Shakespeare. She talks about how there are two different types of aquifers, recharging and non recharging aquifers. Recharging aquifers are aquifers are linked with the surface and receive its water reserves from rainwater, streams, rivers, and runoff. They are commonly found close to the surface. Entities cannot be treated the same, it is not realistic. The Toronto Act was developed to specifically address issues which appeared only pertinent to the GTA. The Municipal Act was developed to deal with the rest of Ontario. There are other constituencies which would benefit from a Toronto Act for their relevant needs. From Northern Ontario, to growing metropolitan cities to border cities, farming and petrochemical industries the difficulties and diversity is tangible. Economic development and downfalls shift greatly across different regions at various times and can affect each other immensely. There must be practices developed so these shifts can be addressed and accommodated for. We can not continue to operate unilaterally or in silos if Ontario is to prosper. It is a partnership. A cultural shift is obligatory to move forward for success. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is been a tedious venture however the long term gains will benefit in years to come. • 46. Theme Of Women In Steel Magnolias During the play Steel Magnolias, Robert Harling shows a portrait of women from the fictional town of Chinquapin that portrays the common, familiar, and nostalgic environment of a small town beauty salon during the 1980s. Encompassing not only the extensive range of female friendship, the play also covers the safe spaces for women and how men and women relate. Harling covers loss, love, strength, and family throughout this work that is so unextraordinary yet amazing at the same time, fully highlighting human strength that often goes unnoticed. By showing how women simply interact with each other on an everyday basis, the audience is able to fully recognize the strength of character that permeates all people in small ways. A gripping tale of dedication and unconditional love, Steel Magnoliasremains a poignant work that is still valid today. The play takes place in Truvy s Beauty Salon, the haven of the women of the town and the house of Truvy Jones. At the start of the play, Annelle, a young, untrained woman seeking a new job at Truvy s. Although Annelle is not particularly talented at doing hair, Truvy still gives her the job out of sympathy, thinking that she can teach her how to do it. Next, Clairee, one of Truvy s regular customers and friends enters. As Clairee has never met Annelle she tries to learn more about her to no avail. Annelle then leaves the room, so the women gossip about her, her background, and her character. Then, Shelby, another regular, enters the salon ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Screen time can also lead to higher levels of overweight and it can leads to shorter attention spans, mental problems, or even sadness. Screen time is a distraction to school work and that can be bad for their grades because at school they will be thinking about games and not be paying attention to the teacher or they skip doing their homework which can help understand things they don t pick up from class. Also it can introduce cyber bullying to kids which is bad and may make them depressed. Lorenzo, one of their lead workers who takes care of their business is the handsome young man that Ellisabetta falls heads over heels for. She and Lorenzo share the same compassion and love for one another and they ignore the social acceptance of their relationship. Unfortunately, Ellisabetta s brothers are not in agreement with this love affair and are furious about the disgrace to their family. They are so disturbed about this relationship that they kill Lorenzo. Furthermore, one night Ellisabetta has a dream where Lorenzo appears and tells her that her brothers killed him and where they buried him. Ellisabetta, being so blindly in love, went out the next morning to confirm her dream. To her surprise she found Lorenzo s dead body. Her first reaction was to take him along with her. • 49. Cognitive Stage Of Middle Childhood Development Family Dynamics Anthony Darey Argosy University Cognitive Stage of Middle Childhood The 1970 s was my era of middle childhood development. This was still a time of turmoil and racial inequality. Being a black child gave me few advantages growing up during this time. I attended decent schools, lived in a middle class neighborhood, and was socially active. I was a nerd, but not in the best sense of the word. I was smart but I was lazy. School was boring to me. I knew the work, but I did not want to do the work. This fact was related back to my parents via my teachers ( grades 6th 8th). My nickname was Tony but I was pinned as the Professor by my family. Like I said, I knew the work I just did not do the work. The nickname made me feel good and bad at the same time. I liked the acknowledgement that I was being recognized for being smart but I hated the fact that I was also expected to live up to the nickname. This was also the beginning of a state of confusion and asserting my independence. Discovering just who I was and in what direction my life was going. (Erikson, 1968) Today I don t consider myself the same way. I pat myself on the back when I do a good job, but when I do poorly I kick myself in the butt. The difference now is I care one way or the other about the outcome. I was brought up in an authoritative environment, that is to say I did as I was told and did not question why.It is ... • 50. How Does Gluttony Consume Our Culture Gluttony When people think about Gluttony, they picture a fat slob. However, there are two different types of gluttony, which are gluttonies of delicacy and excess. The medieval s five ways of sinning by gluttony depicts this dichotomy of gluttony perfectly. These include, eating and drinking too soon, too expensively, too much, too eagerly, and with too much fuss (Guinness 213). Gluttonyhas consumed our culture because we see it as the smallest of the seven deadly sinsand most people do not even see gluttony as a sin! Steering Through Chaos demonstrates how gluttony has pervaded our culture because of a moral emptiness, how the only cure is courage through suffering, and how gluttony can affect my life. The gluttony of excess encompasses the first four of the medieval ways to sin through gluttony. These four problems all associate to people who are gluttonous in that they devour food. Time magazine gave a stupendous example when they reported, An easy to spot glutton was the gigantic man who waddled into a Sir George s Smorgasbord House branch in the San... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This type of courage counters gluttony thanks to dedication, discipline, and patience. Courage is also the opposite of gluttony because gluttony devours in an attempt to feel whole yet ends up losing, whereas; courage is, a form of being consumed that seems to lose, yet ends in finding (Guinness 234). John of the cross validates this when he says, Men and women consume and are consumed by many things, some of which only shrink and debase them. But the ultimate consumption and the grand counterpoint to gluttony is a human being ablaze with the glory of God as if consumed with divine fire (Guinness 237). • 52. Punk Rock Essay Punk rock is a unique and changing musical genre that was born in both England and the United States in the late 1970s. A largely underground music scene with a reliance on a rejection of societies norms, dismissal of capitalism and consumption, heavy reliance on community, and a strong attitude of do it yourself and self empowerment, punk continues to have a large influence on the contemporary music scene. Punk rock, however, has faced issues when dealing with concepts of sex and gender. Bands within the scene are usually composed of males, women are objectified in song lyrics, and masculine values like aggressiveness and violence are often glamorized, especially in sub genres of punk such as hardcore punk. But women have managed,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After the demise of many hardcore bands in the mid Eighties, bands such as Bad Religion kept the scene going, and were influences towards punk bands that would later go on to much mainstream success such as Green Day, The Offspring, and Blink 182. One specific moment in punk rock history that deals specifically with women, as well as issues of sex and gender, is the development of the Riot Grrrl movement in the early 1990 s. This movement came mostly out of the punk rock scene in Olympia, WA and Washington D.C. Women found themselves pushed out of punk due to the increasing aggressiveness in the punk scene, especially at concerts . Bands like Bikini Kill, and fan publishes magazines ( zines ) such as Jigsaw began to address the issue of women in punk rock. The first Riot Grrl Convention was held in Washington, D.C. in 1992. There were seminars dealing with writing zines and buying guitars, as well as dealing with eating disorder and fighting sexism. Punk rock, and specifically the Riot Grrrl movement, has been used to empower women and give them control over their lives. Punk s celebration of the individual, and its embrace of those who challenge the norms and standards of society, made it the perfect culture for women who refused to accept society s notions of femininity and gender roles. This is a tradition that has a long history within feminist theory. Groups such as the Radicalesbians and the Combahee River Collective challenged the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
