Tale Of Two Cities Analysis
Charles Dickens, a brilliant author back in the 1850 s, wrote A Tale of Two Cities in order to
describe the similarities between the forces that led to the revolution and the oppression and unrest
occurring in England. The French revolution impacts history because the time period in which it
takes place is before and during the French revolution. The French revolution signifies the essence
of a rapid change, nevertheless, this change tore France right at the heart, where all the government
was functioning . France was torn apart because of the rebellions of the Bourgeoisie, against the
rich aristocrats, consequently the monarch Louis 14th. Charles Dickenswent further. He conveys the
idea of the French revolution through the use of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The discrimination in the novel is shown through the ways the royalty and aristocracies live
compared to the lives of the lower class. During the French revolution, the aristocrats were
significantly prosperous than the poverty, as shown in the wine scene. The difference in classes
is shown in a scene where the wine bottle breaks in front of a store, and peasants run to lick up
the wine, (book one chapter five), without any disregard of the mud that is mixed within it. The
breaking of the wine bottle affects the entire poverty class, All the people within reach had
suspended their business, or their idleness, to run to the spot and drink the wine. The peasants
were so poor they did not care about the wine being dirty, they were just happy to be capable of
having a drink. In Tale of Two Cities there are 2 types of social classes due to aristocracy being
the main idea to govern, This idea for centuries, was dictated by social and religious
convention. The gap in the classes and the lack of care for peasants caused hatred among the
peasants towards the aristocracy. The mistreatment of the peasant class of the aristocrats lead to the
French revolution. The hatred of the peasant class towards the rich is what the French revolution or
any revolution is built on. These inhumane discriminations led to a massive bloodshed of a
revolution against anyone who was even

The Causes And Effects Of Propaganda During World War II
What is propaganda? Propaganda is the spreading of ideas information or rumors spread
deliberately to further one s cause or to damage an opposing cause. This concept can be really
profitable and influential when utilized towards a community of people. It becomes even more
efficient when it s employed in community filled with uncertainty. Before World War ll had begun
most of Europe and Asia was going through a period of uncertainty with new ideas and new
dictatorship for example, fascism, which had risen during the nineteenth century. In continuation, in
the novel Making sense of Tyranny states Accordingly there was little sense of that uncertainty
and instability that characterizes life in the classical dictatorship. (Simon Tormey). The quote
documents how one of logical reason that dictatorship is displayed is when uncertainty takes
place. In addition of uncertainty, the Great Depression was arising in the early 1900s, this gives
another bulge of uncertainty. Moreover, uncertainty leads to more citizens believing anything and
everything being said by anyone even if it s true or not which is the supremacy to efficacious
propaganda. Now, during time of war the concept of propaganda can be highly beneficial.
Propaganda was highly authenticate during World War II, it played a major contribution to war,
and it s still in critical use till this day. So was propaganda the weapon that killed six million jews,
and can genocide happen again? Propaganda

Craft Of Memo Writing
The recommendations from the readings on memo writing share many similarities and some
differences that are beneficial, but depend on the type of memo being created. For example all the
readings agree on the importance of using evidence to fortify arguments and recommendations to
the receiver of the memo. In The Craft of Memo Writing by Robert Behn, he writes that the author
of a memo must ask themselves if their sentences makes sense, and if they are addressing the flaws
in the core idea, of their argument. Behn argues that evidence is needed to create an effective policy
memo that is convincing since evidence supports the logic of the arguments, thus making it
conceivable. Marie Danziger agrees with Behn, by arguing that a person must... Show more content

Ford School of Public Policy. The memo does not state its purpose first but rather the contexts and
history of the problem then its purpose. The memo is structured to provide six different plans on
how to handle the Syrian crisis with arguments and counter arguments for each plan. The memo
follows the instructions created by Stone, Danziger, and the Ford School of Public Policy by
providing context, facts, and evidence and counter arguments for the recipient to make a decision.
However, it is not engaging or entertaining and does not get right to the point, thus can be
considered boring and long. But the memo provides the reader with information to make a viable

Macalester Personal Statement
It was about two years ago that I first heard of Macalester College. One of my schoolfellow that
has been a Mac student for a year told me about the life and studying experience for the past year.
That was the time that I began to like this school, for its diversity in studying and high quality life
experience. One of the reasons that I want to go to America for collegeis that I want to learn more
expansive knowledges and to learn more about people from different countries to broaden my
horizon. Macalester s known for its large international enrollment and has one of the highest
percentages of foreign students in the United States, which is really good for me to join . Also

Analysis Of The Book The Big Blind
It was a fairly quiet evening in The Black. The place was a sleazy little dive that catered to
spacers, merchants and smugglers but aside from the odd rowdy drunk it wasn t a place that
saw much action. People came to The Black for a quiet corner to do some business or to get
themselves well and truly drunk where no one would roll them. The only thing going tonight was
a group of spacers playing some Terran card game. A burly Krogan with gold engraving on his
crest was riffling the cards and chattering as he had been all evening.
Alright, the small blind s ten cred, the big blind is twenty. The half dozen players were checking
their cards as they made their bets. A Volus was standing on his chair and leaning forward watching

So busy was he sniffing the dubious concoction the bartender handed him that he didn t really
notice as the three Vorcha began fanning out through the bar. Not until one of them brushed against
him and he spun. The Vorcha spun as well, and the two of them glared at one another for a long
moment before the barbaric vermin backed down. Sniffing, Tahlyn watched him go, glaring after
the creature. If that Vorcha tried that nonsense with Bronn he d be picking fangs out of his trachea.
You have my payment? The Batarian had an odd sibilance to his voice, and as he cleared his
throat Tahlyn noticed the thick pucker of scar tissue that ran in a crescent around his throat. It
looked like someone had tried to carve his head off and then gotten bored halfway.
You have the package? Tahlyn replied, one hand slipping into his pocket. His right hand fell to the
Elkoss Shuriken holstered at his side.
Before the Batarian could reply, there was a commotion.
Here! She is here! One of the Vorcha crooned, and the two Salarians produced bulky pistols and
advanced.
Artemis Chase, your debts are past due. Do you have the credits to pay them? The first Salarian
asked, and the Vorcha were converging on the redheaded human. The second hefted his Carnifex

Essay about Book Report on the Perfect Storm
Book Report on The Perfect Storm by Sebastian Junger
The fishing port of Gloucester, Massachusetts, just north of Boston, is one of the oldest fishing
ports in the United States and can trace its history to around 1623. Since that time, around ten
thousand men have lost their lives fishing the Atlantic Ocean. Not only did the fishing port feel the
full brunt of the storm but that fateful day in October 1991 was to add another six men to that tally
when the fishing boat Andrea Gail was caught in the full fury of the storm out on the fishing
grounds, heading back to port with a hold full of swordfish. The Perfect Storm is the story of that
fateful trip of October 1991 when the Andrea Gail headed out to sea for one last shot at a major ...

The environment influences the characters quite a bit. Everybody in that community does
something that involves the fish industry or supplying alcohol for the fishermen. The lifestyles of
the people are basically fish for a month out on the open sea, come home for a week, get a drunk
as you can, give your wife and family all the money made and not spent on alcohol, and then
leave to fish for another month or two. The main characters in the story are all crew members of
the same fishing skipper so they act just as one would expect crew members to act towards one
another. The availability of food and water are very good. The story takes place on the coast so
obviously there is a lot of water and the entire story is based around fishing to supply the food
industry with swordfish. Fishing for swordfish is very profitable so all of these crew members are
well to do.
The characters are involved in travel for work. They travel up and down the coast in pursuit of
swordfish. Therefore the goods that are being sold and traded are the swordfish. These swordfish
are coming from the Atlantic Ocean to be sent to be served in sea food restaurants. The cause for
the movement is the need of a job and money and food.
The physical region described in this story would basically be the coastal region. The part played
by this region is basically the location of a job and

The Swatch s price strategy was clear, they sold their products at an affordable price everywhere
in the world (in the US: $40, in Switzerland: SFr50, in Germany: DM60, in Japan: Y7000). What
is more important that they didn t change their price in the first ten years despite their incredible
success. Their price strategy helped their positioning, and helped to communicate their brand
message: Swatch is not just affordable, it s approachable. Buying a Swatch is an easy decision
to make, an easy decision to live with. The Swatch was unique in its advertising strategy too.
They spent 30% of the retail price on advertising which was compared to the industry average,
was more than double. Besides the high profile advertising, they also used below the line
activities, like break dancing sponsorship, celebrity endorsement, special events, or product
placements (for example the Giant Swatch in Germany). They created a Swatch Collectors Club
for their most ardent fans, who could receive a subscription to the Swatch Street Journal magazine
which contained the latest news, information about Swatch. The Swatch s distribution strategy
was so different from the other watches . They created new approach and ways of points of
purchase. For example The Veggie Swatch line was sold in fruits and vegetable markets. They

Introduction Performance management systems are often designed to enable organizations to
plan, measure and control their performance, so that decisions, resources and activities can be
better aligned with business strategies to achieve desired results and create shareholder value. The
Balanced Scorecard is a performance tool using financial and nonfinancial measures. It provides
an organization with ways to develop and evaluate strategic objectives and goals. For the past two
decades, the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) has been proposed as an integrated framework for the

Cost associated with the orientation and training of a new employee as well as the cost associated
with employee separation can have an effect on the bottom line.
Advantages and Disadvantages of Using a Balanced Scorecard Some organizations have a difficult
time establishing a process that can translate its strategic vision into concrete goals and actions.
There are clearly some beneficial advantages to applying the balanced scorecard approach. Some of
these benefits include gaining a cross organizational team that will open channels of
communications. The company will have enthusiastic people who are focused on carrying out the
organization s mission and commitment to quality. Also, the company will gain a unique
competitive advantage relating to reduce time frames, improved decisions and better solutions.
Most importantly, initiatives are continually measured and evaluated against industry standards.
There can be some disadvantages as well. The balanced scorecard takes a lot of planning and
forethought. Defining clearly stated objectives and setting goals are crucial to the process. There
can be resistance from employees or even management. Some individuals may see the
implementation as a threat or indication of a lack of performance on their part. While the balanced
scorecard gives an extensive overview of the organization s performance, it does not give
recommendations regarding how to resolve discovered

The Case Of Buffalo For Real
The narrative that gets told about a city influences public policies, economic development
initiatives, and even civic morale and engagement. For example, in the case of Buffalo, pervasive
myths about high property tax rates have influenced the public s perception about the funding of
public programs and fed the desire for irresponsible tax cuts. Similarly, stories that fail to
acknowledge issues of poverty, inequality, and segregation marginalize certain groups and hinder
constructive dialogue on how to fix these issues. Many of the solutions previously proposed to
make Buffalo prosper, assumed that the city was in dire straits. While it is true that Buffalo had
been hit by hard times, haphazard attempts at economic developments only exasperated... Show

In 2010, the poverty rate was 29.6% and the unemployment rate is currently 12.4%. In addition,
most of the poverty is concentrated on the west side and the east side. These issues have been
compounded by a dwindling population as many choose to avoid the inner city poverty in favor of
living in the surrounding suburbs. With that being said, Buffalo has many underutilized or
unrecognized resources. First, Buffalo has access to the Great Lakes. As water scarcity becomes a
more pressing issue, the Great Lakes will become an even more valuable resource. Buffalo needs
to recognize the value of this resource and stop dumping raw sewage into the water. Second, the
city is located near Niagara Falls, one of the biggest tourist attractions in the world. The only
problem is that Buffalo doesn t have as many attractions to keep tourist in the area for a longer
period. Also, its rich past has endowed it with magnificent architecture and historic landmarks. By
accentuating these locations, Buffalo could increase its tourism traffic. The economic situation in
Buffalo has been bleak, but its proximity to Toronto could lead to a resurgence if the city s prime
location is utilized. By taking stock of the resources that it has at its disposal, Buffalo can change
the narrative about its future

Characterization Of Duck Viperin And The Natural Reservoir...
Characterization of duck viperin
Introduction:
Ducks (Anas platyrhynchos) and other waterfowl are the natural reservoir of Influenza A virus
(IAV) (Webster et al. 1992). IAV may cross the species barrier from the reservoir species causing
sporadic infections in other avian or mammalian species (Webster et al. 1995). These infections
impose a large burden on human and animal health worldwide leading to economic losses; In
humans, in 2008, 90 million new influenza infections resulted in an estimated 28000 115000
deaths worldwide (Nair et al. 2011), in birds, in 1999, Italy experienced a HPAI epidemic caused
by an H7N1 virus subtype. In total 16 million birds were culled and the estimated loss was about
€ 507 million, with € 112 million in direct losses and € 395 million in consequential losses
(Sartore et al. 2010). Ducks often display little to no disease symptoms after IAV infection. They
stimulate a robust innate immune response when infected with HPAI by up regulating many innate
immune genes (Vanderven et al. 2012). Therefore, characterization of innate immune genes of
ducks, particularly the genes that are upregulated during IAV infection, might give insight into the
relationship between IAV and the innate immune response of ducks, which will help us to control
the virus.
When exposing the mallard ducks to the highly pathogenic IAV (H5N1), there was an upregulation
in some innate immunity genes; one of the highest upregulated gene was viperin (Virus inhibitory
protein,

Technology s Rapid Development
When we analyze the technological environment, we look at what could create a new market or
develop new products. In order to turn new advances in technology into competitive advantages and
opportunities, companies such as Apple need to be aware of the changes happening in the market.
Technology affects consumers life style, consumption and spending patterns, as well as the
economy. Also, advances in the technological sector can sometimes create new industries or destroy
existing ones. Additionally, technological changes affect the 4P s of an organization. Due to the
previously mentioned reasons, we think the constant development in technology is a key driving
force in the Smartphone industry. There is a tide of technological innovations hitting the world and

What exactly happened in the Russian Revolution?

The Bolsheviks were a faction of the Russian socialist movement that emerged in 1904 after a
dispute in the Russian Social Democratic Labour Party between Vladimir Lenin and Julius Martov,
leading to the party splitting into two factions, one being the Mensheviks (Russian for The
Minority ) and the other being the Bolsheviks (Russian for The Majority ). Lenin wanted a strict
system where power would only be given to the government. Martov disagreed, and wanted the
government to give power to ordinary people.

The economy was in shambles because of the cost of war. Military wise, Imperial Russia was no
match for Industrialized Germany. Russia sustained more casualties than any other country in
history. Finally, people began protesting. On March 7, 1917, workers at Putilov, Petrograd s
largest industrial plant went on strike due to their displeasure with the government. On March
8, international women s day, several people, a majority of them women, began protesting in
want of more bread, which was becoming less and less common, due to rationing. Several
bakeries had already closed. By March 10, over 200,000 protesters were on the streets, calling
for the end of the war and overthrowing of the Tsar, and almost every industrial enterprise was
shut down. The Tsar, in response, released 180,000 troops to deplete the crowd. However, most
were either partially trained recruits or older working class reserves from the Petrograd area.
There was a serious shortage of officers amongst the reserve battalions of the Imperial Guard
which made up the bulk of the troops and the morale and discipline of these units was low.
Historians suggest around 12,000 of the soldiers could be regarded as reliable, but even these

Passion in A Midsummer Night s Dream Essay
Passion in A Midsummer Night s Dream Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s Dream may come
off as a simple comedy but is a complex play with many interesting aspects. Passion, a significant
characteristic, is often expressed through the play. Characters in the play show passion for
different reasons; Puck passions for mischief, Helena for Demetrius love and Bottom for theatrics,
are a few of the many examples. Passion shows much significance, being the most important
characteristic in the play. Puck is a mischievous sprite, involved with most magical events in the
play. Often playing tricks for his own enjoyment or by his master, Oberon s, commands, Puck is

Being the only character, other than Bottom, to enter both the human and fairy world, the play
makes Puck to be the protagonist. While there his trickery and trouble are antagonistic in nature,
his vital part is that of a positive character, ultimately resolving all problems. Puck treats the
entire idea of love as madness, the idea Shakespeare was conveying with his trickery. Helena is
portrayed as a desperate character, her passion being for the love of Demetrius. Helena spends
most of the story pursuing Demetrius in hope of receiving any form of affection in return, only
receiving affection due to magic. While chasing Demetrius, Helena says What worser place can

(II.i.208 210) Helena, knowing demeaning herself to the position of a dog, believes that she is not
worthy enough for such authority, therefore hoping she will be given the honour. Helena compares
herself to a dog in the sense that the more Demetrius rejects her, the harder she will try to receive
any emotion from her master. Although heartbroken by Demetrius hatred for her, Helena showers
Demetrius with comments, only to be continuously beaten down. This is explicitly shown when
Helena comments on Demetrius demeanor and is, again rejected, saying, You draw me, you hard
hearted adamant; But yet you draw not iron, for my heart Is true as steel: leave you your power

Building Effective Teams And Teamwork, And Leading...
Group skills are comprised of 3 core aspects which are: empowering and engaging others, building
effective teams and teamwork, and leading positive change. Each one of these core elements is
very important in developing group skills and can always be improved if the proper approach is
taken. Effective empowering and engagement is made up of 9 various dimensions. For example,
personal mastery experiences, modeling, providing support, arousing positive emotions, providing
information, providing resources, organizing teams, creating confidence, and delegating work are
all dimensions making up effective empowermentand engagement. I received a 12 for all of the
elements listed and a 60 for delegating work which gives me a sum score of 156, placing me in
the high ability to empower others quartile. I agree with this score, because I like to help and
give others the opportunities to shine and reach their potential. I like to think of myself as a self
less person and help others grow and reach their potential and accompany on my journey as well.
Personal mastery experiences are experiences that give employees the confidence and ability to
be successful at a particular assigned duty. Modeling is how the leader goes to serve as an
example for empowering others. Providing support is the extent in which a leader helps employees

Islam, Christianity and Judaism share the patriarch Abraham. Although the three monotheistic
religions: Jews, Christians and Muslims are Abrahamic religions, because they come from the
patriarch Abraham, is only in Islam where the Eid El Adja, or feast of sacrifice; where the Prophet
Abraham is the protagonist, is celebrated with great splendor. The Jews are considered the
descendants of Abraham, who was devoted to the service of the one God, creator of heaven and
earth. This God demands righteousness and justice. Abraham s belief was an ethical monotheism.
His descendants were to spread that belief and remain faithful to the covenant with God. God
would watch in his favor and give them a possession the Holy Land. All families of the earth could
participate in this Alliance. Muslims, followers

Animal Welfare Research
Animal welfare has been a very controversial issue within our society, whether it would the habitat

debated, which is the animal welfarewithin farms and the conditions that they live in, specifically
pigs, calves, and pigs. Environmental ethics is a discipline within philosophy that studies the moral

History of the Old Testament of the Bible Essay
Studying the Old Testament is not as straightforward as some may think. Being able to recall
stories of the Bible does not necessarily mean you have a thorough grasp on the history of Israel
and the surrounding nations. Some people read and discuss the Bible without a solid understanding
of the history and social issues that were going on at the time. Being able to relate to the stories in
the Bibleand struggle with some of the same problems faced by the people in the Bible gives you
a greater appreciation for the works in the Bible. I feel that having a firm understanding of all the

This is concept that we should become familiar with and understand. Hardly anything in the
Bible is written down as it happened (In relation to time, not saying the bible is inaccurate in its
accounts of events). Stories and passages from the Bible are historical stories or events that are

Emile Durkheim s View Of Religion
There are a numerous amount of different perspectives when concerning religions and myths. One
example is Emile Durkheim whose perspective of religion was that it was a social component of
human beings. He suggested that people got their regions ideas, were taught how to carry out their
rituals and developed their ideals as a result of their socialization. He believed that there were no
false religions and added that religionquite dominated over its followers and made them dependent
on it.
Durkheim tried to distinguish between religion and magic. He suggested that religious or sacred
things are special and that commonplace things are profane. Magic rituals he claimed were just
social events. Religious ideas were created while rituals were being performed causing many
emotional participates to feel the presence of unseen beings among them, which was Durkheim s
idea of a sacred world. Durkheim stated that there is no church of magic and that there was no
lasting bond between the magician and his audience. A church binds the group together and a moral
community because participates believe in the same god or participate in the same cult. ... Show

Edward Tylor an English Scholar, defined religion as the belief in spiritual beings. He offered
the theory that these beliefs came from dreams and that the dreamer was somewhere between
the living and the dead. He suggested this is where the idea of souls originated. This evolved
into the beliefs of spirits which needed scarifies. This would cause the spirits to grant favors to
the ones performing the sacrifices. The sacrifices then became rituals. Tylor believes that science
would cause religion to disappear. This in effect caused polytheism to be born. If it was not for
polytheism, monotheism would not have been developed. Tylor s theory was that if society

A Prayer For Owen Meany Analysis
How many people are willing to practice their own death? Not many, right? It sounds strange, but
one person in particular was eager to do just that Owen Meany. In John Irving s A Prayer for
Owen Meany, Owen makes many sacrifices, his biggest sacrifice being his own life. In the
beginning of the novel, Owen comes across as slightly different with his minuscule size and high
pitched voice, but as the novel progresses and Owen ages, his inhuman qualities become more and
more prevalent, eventually leading to the biggest indicator of all his death. In the novel, Owen
Meany is willingly able to plan the sacrificeof his own life in order to save the lives of others,
showing he is a supernaturalbeing. Owen Meany was predestined to be a savior for the
Vietnamese children and he had been preparing for this sacrifice his entire life. From the time he
was born, Owen was always special. His parents admitted that he was unnatural when Mr. Meany
exclaimed, She just conceived a child like the Christ Child. (Irving 545). This shows that Owen
s parents did not purposefully conceive him, but he was born for a greater purpose. Later on in
Owen s life, he has a vision of his grave and how he will die, which leads him to prepare for his
death. He saw his death so vividly, he knew Johnny would be present, therefore he involves
Johnny in his practice. Johnny explains, We practiced the shot for three or four days in a row; of
course, my part in this exercise was extremely limited, but I

Agile Web Development Works Of The World Breathed A Sigh...
Agile Web Development Works First, and foremost, agile web development is not a specific
process, action, or exercise. it s a mindset an attitude with which a project is delivered. The agile
methodology puts customer first, enabling development teams to work collaboratively and
readily respond to change, and to deliver the best possible product. Being agile means focused on
delivering streamlined projects, not wasting time documenting every meticulous detail of a
product. Instead of documentations, development teams begin working almost immediately on
delivering small incremental products. These incremental products enable customers and design
teams to perform frequent sanity checks, making sure they are not spending an inordinate
amount of time (and money) on features that deliver little to no value. Begin agile, enable teams
to deliver the most value; in less time and with least amount of headaches. Flexibility and Agility

world breathed a sigh of relief when Jesse James Garrett and Steve Krug first introduced us to

material. Using the agile approach, designers, and developers are able to eliminate up to 80% of

Renaissance Astronomers
You know, because you ve been told, that the Earth revolves around the Sun. You also probably
know that planets other than our own have moons, and the way to test to see whether or not

known. The heavens above were anyone s guess, and the way things were was just the way the
gods had made them. It was felt there was no need to truly understand them or put them in any

Most renaissance astronomers did not accept the theories of the previous astronomers. So they
decided to make their own. Starting off with the Polish astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus. He began
a new era of astronomy when he concluded that the Sun was the center of the universe instead of the
Earth. This inventive idea was not popular with the Church, but several other astronomers such as
Brahe and Galileo helped to eventually prove that this model of the universe was more accurate.
Speaking of Tycho Brahe he built an observatory from which he made the most accurate
astronomical observations up to that time. His observatory contained equipment for mapping star
positions, and for more than 20 years he made detailed records of his findings. He believed that
the universe was a blend of the Ptolemaic and Copernican models, and created his own model in
which the planets orbit the Sun and the Sun orbits the Earth. Moving on to the next big astromoner

Essay On The Persuader
Imagine being stuck in a house, that felt more like a prison. Working for a dangerous man,
where making one wrong move will get you killed. This quarter, I have been reading The

wandering lone wolf searching for justice. Two DEA agents approach him with a situation: they
had an agent on a case who is now missing, but they can t open a case with the FBI because of
legal issues. They know that Reacher is adroit in combat and undercover operations, and he accepts

Evaluating this style made me realize that his unique writing style made Reacher seem even
more like a real person. Right off the bat, I observed short, quick sentences showing Jack s
thoughts. Since he used to be in the military, he absorbs every little detail around him, predicting
all of the possible outcomes. An example can be shown in this quote: Duke went back to his car.
It bounced off the shoulder and straightened up. I followed him through the two miles. We killed
our lights a hundred yards short of the driveway and made the turn. Took it slow. There was some
moonlight. His fast and almost incomplete thoughts make him seem ready to react at any moment.
While making Reacher s character consistent, Lee Child also demonstrates thorough knowledge
about military technology topics. At one point in the book, Reacher uses an old school code to
communicate a secret message to someone. Also, with each weapon that comes up in the book,
Jack Reacher seems to have a deep understanding of all of them. This adds to making him seem
even more like a real character because of his military background, so he would obviously have to
know a lot about guns and other

How to Institutionalize Peace
Another major influence on the ability to institutionalize peace is the role of powerful national
individuals. Many people will follow an influential figure and do whatever they say if they
believe in what they are being told. This can be both good and bad depending on the situation. If
the leader has radical views and wants change, they will often resort to violence to get what is
desired. That is the worst case scenario because if peace is trying to be obtained, then fighting will
only make the situation worse. This is why major global powers such as the United Stateshave
overthrown important political leaders in other countries to help restore order to the country.
Larger, more powerful countries will often make decisions to intervene if they feel it is in the
best interest of the world or neighboring countries. If such great power is put into the wrong
hands, the consequences can be devastating. McNamara is a good example of a powerful figure
that had a terrific war mind, but wasn t the best when it came to making or keeping peace. The
Vietnam War was one that came with lots of controversy because of how costly it was. The war
lasted many years and resulted in the death of many American soldiers. McNamara felt that we
could win the war and continued to send troops into battle. This was not good for any hopes of
achieving peace because this did nothing but make the Vietnamese unhappy and less likely to want
to stop the war. Instead of trying to make peace

What Is The Growth Of Poverty In Canada
The article The Growth of Poverty and Social Inequality: Losing Faith in Social Justice by Ann
Duffy and Nancy Mandell displayed many important facts about poverty in Canada. I believe the
most important information I got from this article is how intersectionality largely effects poverty
in Canada. From children to women to disabled, the article showed how each group is more
affected by povertythan their counter parts. I believe it is important to acknowledge the different
groups and how poverty affects them separately, as well as how poverty affects them when they
are intersected. Canada is one of the wealthiest countries in the world, however, many citizens
are below the blurred poverty line. (251). The poverty line in Canada is measured by the LICO
IAT (boooook) and the MBM (253). The resources for those below the poverty line are very
poor; food banks and shelters are unable to uphold the amount of people that are in need of them.
(252). Among the poor, many people have paid employment, however, it is not enough. Poverty in
Canada is largely based on intersectionality; how different aspects of a person combine to form a...

moment that all of the prospecting pathways come into play. The student has a narrowed list in
mind, and they are confronted with a choiceof money or passion. Often times your genuine
interests will not bring in as much cash as you d originally hoped, so you settle for a route to bring

Using Changes in Glycosylation Patterns as a Biomarker in...
In this lecture prof. Wuhrer discussed the relevance of using changes in glycosylation patterns
as a biomarker in autoimmune diseases and cancer with use of mass spectrometry. Glycosylation
is the covalent addition of glycans (carbohydrate) to another molecule, which contains a
hydroxyl group or other functional group. Other molecule can be proteins, lipids or other bio
molecules. This process is a form of co translational and post translational modification, which
occurs in endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and Golgi apparatus. There are N linked and O linked
glycosylation processes. In general, this process is involved in cell membrane formation.
Further, glycans are located in the glycocalyx. This is a (outer) layer of glycoprotein
polysaccharide on the surface of certain epithelial cells. Glycans participate in many biological
processes: cell adhesion, signal transduction, molecular trafficking and clearance, receptor
activation and endocytosis. Recent studies have also revealed that glycans are involved in many
diseases, from microbial infection to cancer. Three potential biomarkers in the diagnosis of several
diseases: 1)Glycosylation analysis in colorectal cancer (CRC): CRC is one of the most common
cancers. Yet, its etiology and biology are not completely understood. In his study of 2013, mass
spectrometry has been used to characterize glycans. Multivariate data analysis has showed
consistent differences between CRC tumor tissues and control tissues. Some

Menin acts as an adaptor protein regulating multiple pathways involved in differentiation, DNA
repair, proliferation and epigenetic modification. It is also expressed in all adult tissues which
strongly indicates a key role in cell cycle regulation. This is emphasised by the fact that MEN1
knockout mice(12) die in utero with neural, hepatic and cardiac abnormalities. However, there is
still a mystery to why the absence of a functioning ubiquitous protein only causes proliferation in
endocrine tissue. This is partially answered by the mechanism of menin. In p27kip and p18ink4c
double knockout mice(13), the mice develop parathyroid and pituitary adenomas. In other words, a
very similar picture to MEN1. This is highly suggestive of menin working upstream of other cell
cycle regulators, such as p27kip and p18ink4c. It also indicates that in endocrine cells there are no
mechanisms to compensate for deficiency in functional menin, whilst in other tissue types can
compensate. This explains why menin deficiency seems to result in endocrine

The Villain Of Gatsby By F. Scott Fitzgerald
The Villain of Gatsby
Here s the thing about stories; they re all different, but they re all the same. Now, everyone
knows how they re different. Different letters make up different words which make up different
sentences. It s this difference that allows for multiple stories to be told. The other side of stories
is much less understood. They re all the same. This can be seen through the examination of
archetypes, most importantly the hero vs the villain. It can be seen in every tale imaginable.
Every batman has a joker, Luke will always face Darth Vader, and the mailman and dog will wage
war to the end of time. It is by examining stories through these archetypes that it becomes easier to
see their similarities. When it comes to The Great Gatsby, however, things become much more
complicated. The story, complete with layers of deception, lust, and corruption blurs the traditional
archetypes that a reader looks for in a story. When the individual qualities of the characters are
examined, however, their roles can become much clearer. Through his obsession, his false identity,
and his selfish attitude Jay Gatsby is the villain of F. Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby. The term
hopeless romantic isn t typically associated with villainous behaviors. You don t see Romeo
compared to Cruella De Ville fairly often. But when you look at Jay Gatsby, his romanticism, and
more importantly his obsession, leads to the collapse of the story. Unfortunately for him, Gatsby

Afternoon Tea The enjoyment of drinking tea like the British Patrician
British are illustrious as a fan of tea. England is the country outside of Asia, which is known as the

in Britain is so shot. This popularity led to the motto of tea time which eventually became an

get a total of six hours of running man hours/unit and an hourly labor rate of $8.50, which gives us
a total of fifty one dollars. This gives a minimal total cost of
$101 to produce product one. This number is useful in determining how much a unit actually cost
to manufacture and what we must minimally sell the product for to make a profit. We can than
analyze if a product costs to much to make or the sum of the parts is more than the price of the end
product. Product eight had the lowest direct minimum cost ($89.50) and four had the highest

apparatus, and product three, four and five where sales laggards. Entering the information into
spreadsheet form was also necessary to

  • 2. Tale Of Two Cities Analysis Charles Dickens, a brilliant author back in the 1850 s, wrote A Tale of Two Cities in order to describe the similarities between the forces that led to the revolution and the oppression and unrest occurring in England. The French revolution impacts history because the time period in which it takes place is before and during the French revolution. The French revolution signifies the essence of a rapid change, nevertheless, this change tore France right at the heart, where all the government was functioning . France was torn apart because of the rebellions of the Bourgeoisie, against the rich aristocrats, consequently the monarch Louis 14th. Charles Dickenswent further. He conveys the idea of the French revolution through the use of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The discrimination in the novel is shown through the ways the royalty and aristocracies live compared to the lives of the lower class. During the French revolution, the aristocrats were significantly prosperous than the poverty, as shown in the wine scene. The difference in classes is shown in a scene where the wine bottle breaks in front of a store, and peasants run to lick up the wine, (book one chapter five), without any disregard of the mud that is mixed within it. The breaking of the wine bottle affects the entire poverty class, All the people within reach had suspended their business, or their idleness, to run to the spot and drink the wine. The peasants were so poor they did not care about the wine being dirty, they were just happy to be capable of having a drink. In Tale of Two Cities there are 2 types of social classes due to aristocracy being the main idea to govern, This idea for centuries, was dictated by social and religious convention. The gap in the classes and the lack of care for peasants caused hatred among the peasants towards the aristocracy. The mistreatment of the peasant class of the aristocrats lead to the French revolution. The hatred of the peasant class towards the rich is what the French revolution or any revolution is built on. These inhumane discriminations led to a massive bloodshed of a revolution against anyone who was even ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Causes And Effects Of Propaganda During World War II What is propaganda? Propaganda is the spreading of ideas information or rumors spread deliberately to further one s cause or to damage an opposing cause. This concept can be really profitable and influential when utilized towards a community of people. It becomes even more efficient when it s employed in community filled with uncertainty. Before World War ll had begun most of Europe and Asia was going through a period of uncertainty with new ideas and new dictatorship for example, fascism, which had risen during the nineteenth century. In continuation, in the novel Making sense of Tyranny states Accordingly there was little sense of that uncertainty and instability that characterizes life in the classical dictatorship. (Simon Tormey). The quote documents how one of logical reason that dictatorship is displayed is when uncertainty takes place. In addition of uncertainty, the Great Depression was arising in the early 1900s, this gives another bulge of uncertainty. Moreover, uncertainty leads to more citizens believing anything and everything being said by anyone even if it s true or not which is the supremacy to efficacious propaganda. Now, during time of war the concept of propaganda can be highly beneficial. Propaganda was highly authenticate during World War II, it played a major contribution to war, and it s still in critical use till this day. • 4. Craft Of Memo Writing The recommendations from the readings on memo writing share many similarities and some differences that are beneficial, but depend on the type of memo being created. For example all the readings agree on the importance of using evidence to fortify arguments and recommendations to the receiver of the memo. In The Craft of Memo Writing by Robert Behn, he writes that the author of a memo must ask themselves if their sentences makes sense, and if they are addressing the flaws in the core idea, of their argument. Behn argues that evidence is needed to create an effective policy memo that is convincing since evidence supports the logic of the arguments, thus making it conceivable. Marie Danziger agrees with Behn, by arguing that a person must... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ford School of Public Policy. The memo does not state its purpose first but rather the contexts and history of the problem then its purpose. The memo is structured to provide six different plans on how to handle the Syrian crisis with arguments and counter arguments for each plan. The memo follows the instructions created by Stone, Danziger, and the Ford School of Public Policy by providing context, facts, and evidence and counter arguments for the recipient to make a decision. • 5. Macalester Personal Statement It was about two years ago that I first heard of Macalester College. One of my schoolfellow that has been a Mac student for a year told me about the life and studying experience for the past year. That was the time that I began to like this school, for its diversity in studying and high quality life experience. The only thing going tonight was a group of spacers playing some Terran card game. A burly Krogan with gold engraving on his crest was riffling the cards and chattering as he had been all evening. • 11. Characterization Of Duck Viperin And The Natural Reservoir... Characterization of duck viperin Introduction: Ducks (Anas platyrhynchos) and other waterfowl are the natural reservoir of Influenza A virus (IAV) (Webster et al. 1992). IAV may cross the species barrier from the reservoir species causing sporadic infections in other avian or mammalian species (Webster et al. 1995). These infections impose a large burden on human and animal health worldwide leading to economic losses; In humans, in 2008, 90 million new influenza infections resulted in an estimated 28000 115000 deaths worldwide (Nair et al. 2011), in birds, in 1999, Italy experienced a HPAI epidemic caused by an H7N1 virus subtype. In total 16 million birds were culled and the estimated loss was about € 507 million, with € 112 million in direct losses and € 395 million in consequential losses (Sartore et al. 2010). Ducks often display little to no disease symptoms after IAV infection. They stimulate a robust innate immune response when infected with HPAI by up regulating many innate immune genes (Vanderven et al. 2012). Therefore, characterization of innate immune genes of ducks, particularly the genes that are upregulated during IAV infection, might give insight into the relationship between IAV and the innate immune response of ducks, which will help us to control the virus. When exposing the mallard ducks to the highly pathogenic IAV (H5N1), there was an upregulation in some innate immunity genes; one of the highest upregulated gene was viperin (Virus inhibitory protein, ... It sounds strange, but one person in particular was eager to do just that Owen Meany. In John Irving s A Prayer for Owen Meany, Owen makes many sacrifices, his biggest sacrifice being his own life. In the beginning of the novel, Owen comes across as slightly different with his minuscule size and high pitched voice, but as the novel progresses and Owen ages, his inhuman qualities become more and more prevalent, eventually leading to the biggest indicator of all his death. In the novel, Owen Meany is willingly able to plan the sacrificeof his own life in order to save the lives of others, showing he is a supernaturalbeing. Owen Meany was predestined to be a savior for the Vietnamese children and he had been preparing for this sacrifice his entire life. From the time he was born, Owen was always special. His parents admitted that he was unnatural when Mr. Meany exclaimed, She just conceived a child like the Christ Child. (Irving 545). This shows that Owen s parents did not purposefully conceive him, but he was born for a greater purpose. Later on in Owen s life, he has a vision of his grave and how he will die, which leads him to prepare for his death. Being agile means focused on delivering streamlined projects, not wasting time documenting every meticulous detail of a product. Thousands of years ago, these things were not widely known. The heavens above were anyone s guess, and the way things were was just the way the gods had made them. It was felt there was no need to truly understand them or put them in any kind of order. Astronomy is the oldest of the natural sciences, dating back to thousands of years ago. So they decided to make their own. Starting off with the Polish astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus. He began a new era of astronomy when he concluded that the Sun was the center of the universe instead of the Earth. This inventive idea was not popular with the Church, but several other astronomers such as Brahe and Galileo helped to eventually prove that this model of the universe was more accurate. Speaking of Tycho Brahe he built an observatory from which he made the most accurate astronomical observations up to that time. His observatory contained equipment for mapping star positions, and for more than 20 years he made detailed records of his findings. He believed that the universe was a blend of the Ptolemaic and Copernican models, and created his own model in which the planets orbit the Sun and the Sun orbits the Earth. This quarter, I have been reading The Persuader by Lee Child. The main character, Jack Reacher, is an ex military cop, now a wandering lone wolf searching for justice. Two DEA agents approach him with a situation: they had an agent on a case who is now missing, but they can t open a case with the FBI because of legal issues. They know that Reacher is adroit in combat and undercover operations, and he accepts their request. Right off the bat, I observed short, quick sentences showing Jack s thoughts. Since he used to be in the military, he absorbs every little detail around him, predicting all of the possible outcomes. An example can be shown in this quote: Duke went back to his car. It bounced off the shoulder and straightened up. I followed him through the two miles. We killed our lights a hundred yards short of the driveway and made the turn. Took it slow. There was some moonlight. His fast and almost incomplete thoughts make him seem ready to react at any moment. While making Reacher s character consistent, Lee Child also demonstrates thorough knowledge about military technology topics. At one point in the book, Reacher uses an old school code to communicate a secret message to someone. Also, with each weapon that comes up in the book, Jack Reacher seems to have a deep understanding of all of them. This adds to making him seem even more like a real character because of his military background, so he would obviously have to know a lot about guns and other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. How to Institutionalize Peace Another major influence on the ability to institutionalize peace is the role of powerful national individuals. Many people will follow an influential figure and do whatever they say if they believe in what they are being told. This can be both good and bad depending on the situation. If the leader has radical views and wants change, they will often resort to violence to get what is desired. That is the worst case scenario because if peace is trying to be obtained, then fighting will only make the situation worse. This is why major global powers such as the United Stateshave overthrown important political leaders in other countries to help restore order to the country. Larger, more powerful countries will often make decisions to intervene if they feel it is in the best interest of the world or neighboring countries. If such great power is put into the wrong hands, the consequences can be devastating. McNamara is a good example of a powerful figure that had a terrific war mind, but wasn t the best when it came to making or keeping peace. The Vietnam War was one that came with lots of controversy because of how costly it was. The war lasted many years and resulted in the death of many American soldiers. McNamara felt that we could win the war and continued to send troops into battle. This was not good for any hopes of achieving peace because this did nothing but make the Vietnamese unhappy and less likely to want to stop the war. Instead of trying to make peace ... • 30. What Is The Growth Of Poverty In Canada The article The Growth of Poverty and Social Inequality: Losing Faith in Social Justice by Ann Duffy and Nancy Mandell displayed many important facts about poverty in Canada. I believe the most important information I got from this article is how intersectionality largely effects poverty in Canada. From children to women to disabled, the article showed how each group is more affected by povertythan their counter parts. I believe it is important to acknowledge the different groups and how poverty affects them separately, as well as how poverty affects them when they are intersected. Canada is one of the wealthiest countries in the world, however, many citizens are below the blurred poverty line. (251). The poverty line in Canada is measured by the LICO IAT (boooook) and the MBM (253). The resources for those below the poverty line are very poor; food banks and shelters are unable to uphold the amount of people that are in need of them. (252). I believe that if society stopped grouping people into categories such as female, indigenous, disabled, etc. than intersectionality would have less of an effect on poverty then it does now. • 32. Using Changes in Glycosylation Patterns as a Biomarker in... In this lecture prof. Wuhrer discussed the relevance of using changes in glycosylation patterns as a biomarker in autoimmune diseases and cancer with use of mass spectrometry. Glycosylation is the covalent addition of glycans (carbohydrate) to another molecule, which contains a hydroxyl group or other functional group. Other molecule can be proteins, lipids or other bio molecules. This process is a form of co translational and post translational modification, which occurs in endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and Golgi apparatus. There are N linked and O linked glycosylation processes. In general, this process is involved in cell membrane formation. Further, glycans are located in the glycocalyx. This is a (outer) layer of glycoprotein polysaccharide on the surface of certain epithelial cells. Glycans participate in many biological processes: cell adhesion, signal transduction, molecular trafficking and clearance, receptor activation and endocytosis. Recent studies have also revealed that glycans are involved in many diseases, from microbial infection to cancer. Three potential biomarkers in the diagnosis of several diseases: 1)Glycosylation analysis in colorectal cancer (CRC): CRC is one of the most common cancers. It is also expressed in all adult tissues which strongly indicates a key role in cell cycle regulation. This is emphasised by the fact that MEN1 knockout mice(12) die in utero with neural, hepatic and cardiac abnormalities. However, there is still a mystery to why the absence of a functioning ubiquitous protein only causes proliferation in endocrine tissue. This is partially answered by the mechanism of menin. In p27kip and p18ink4c double knockout mice(13), the mice develop parathyroid and pituitary adenomas. In other words, a very similar picture to MEN1. This is highly suggestive of menin working upstream of other cell cycle regulators, such as p27kip and p18ink4c. It also indicates that in endocrine cells there are no mechanisms to compensate for deficiency in functional menin, whilst in other tissue types can compensate. This explains why menin deficiency seems to result in endocrine ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. The Villain Of Gatsby By F. Scott Fitzgerald The Villain of Gatsby Here s the thing about stories; they re all different, but they re all the same. Now, everyone knows how they re different. Different letters make up different words which make up different sentences. It s this difference that allows for multiple stories to be told. The other side of stories is much less understood. They re all the same. This can be seen through the examination of archetypes, most importantly the hero vs the villain. It can be seen in every tale imaginable. Every batman has a joker, Luke will always face Darth Vader, and the mailman and dog will wage war to the end of time. It is by examining stories through these archetypes that it becomes easier to see their similarities. When it comes to The Great Gatsby, however, things become much more complicated. The story, complete with layers of deception, lust, and corruption blurs the traditional archetypes that a reader looks for in a story. When the individual qualities of the characters are examined, however, their roles can become much clearer. Through his obsession, his false identity, and his selfish attitude Jay Gatsby is the villain of F. Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby. The term hopeless romantic isn t typically associated with villainous behaviors. You don t see Romeo compared to Cruella De Ville fairly often. We get a total of six hours of running man hours/unit and an hourly labor rate of $8.50, which gives us a total of fifty one dollars. This gives a minimal total cost of $101 to produce product one. This number is useful in determining how much a unit actually cost to manufacture and what we must minimally sell the product for to make a profit.
