In Depth Analysis Of Emicho And His Crusaders
The first crusade started in 1096 B.C. when Pope Urban II called for the for a holy war. This was the
beginning of the first crusade. What originally was supposed to be the taking back of Jerusalem led to
the death of thousands of Jewish people. This with previous persecution of the Jews, by Christians, led
to even more persecution of Jews. Pope Urban II called for a holy war in 1095. Urban wanted the
Christians to take over the holy city of Jerusalem. He also said the Islamic people committed crimes
against Christendom. When he called for this crusade he expected to have trained soldiers partake in
the war and taking over of Jerusalem. What he didn t expect were thousands of untrained peasants, but
that s what he got. Pope Urban ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Bowenian Family Research Paper
REFLECTIONS ON BOWENIAN FAMILY THERAPY
This paper is an analysis of my family history in Bowenian terms. I will examine four generations on
my side of the family. I have included a genogram in the appendix to examine my personal
intergenerational patterns for assessment. I will also examine my family of origin in the categories of
race, ethnicity, religion, social class, geographic location, jobs, mental health and medical concerns.
The paper concludes comparing Bowenian ideas to other systemic concepts.
Race and Ethnicity Both my paternal and material families of origin are Caucasian. Ethnicity is Scotch
Irish. With reasonable accuracy I have been able to determine that my maternal great great grandfather
(not reflected on this genogram) was living as a young man in Georgia during the Civil War period. In
my maternal line I am also told that there is a Cree Indian relative in my great grandparent line; time
and place is unknown.
Religion
The grandparents of both sides of my family based their faith in fundamentalist Christianity. The
dominant religious beliefs are Congregationalism or modern day Church of Christ on the maternal line
primarily due to the influence of my maternal step grandmother Georgia. My grandfather (Uhlan) was
influenced by her in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

living middle class lifestyles and accumulating debt to do so. My brother has lived most of his life

The Third Largest Coal Ash Spill
The third largest coal ash spill in United States history has left some citizens in North Carolina fearing
their water is not safe to drink. This fear is a result of anywhere between 50,000 and 82,000 tons of
coal ash and up to twenty seven million gallons of contaminated water being dumped into the Dan
River in Eden, North Carolina on February 2, 2014. The spill was caused by a busted storm drain pipe
that ran under an unlined coal ash pond at Duke Energy s Dan River Combined Cycle Station ( Duke
Energy s Grievous ). Coal ash is a byproduct of burning coal for energy and contains substances such
as arsenic, lead, and mercury. These toxic chemicals are not only harmful to the environment but to
the human population as well (Christian). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Listed below are the proposed draft risk classifications for each facility in North Carolina as of
December 2015.
Draft Proposed Impoundment Classifications. DEQ. 31 Dec. 2015. Web. 8 Apr. 2016.
The coal ash that is buried underground still has the potential to seep into the neighboring water
supply. Also, the high risk ponds will not be evacuated until 2019 and the low intermediate risk ponds
as late as 2029. Subsequently, there will still be run off from these ponds polluting fresh water for the
time being ( House, Senate Approve ). This settlement is not a win for residents surrounding these
impoundments. Preventing seepage from coal ash ponds and completely removing the coal ashes
away from fresh water is the only way North Carolinians will feel safe about their drinking water, no
matter the proposed risk classification.
For instance, the N.C. Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) handed out a Clean Water Act
permit to the Duke Energy Riverbend coal ash site on Mountain Island Lake on the Catawba River
which supplies water for Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, Mount Holly, and Gastonia. This pollution
discharge permit is supposed to protect Mountain Island Lake from harmful coal ash pollution coming
out of the Duke Energy s Riverbend facility. In 2015, Duke Energy pleaded guilty to criminal coal ash
pollution and was issued to remove the coal ash pond at Riverbend. The coal ash lagoons are
scheduled to be

The Cask Of Amontillado, The Raven And The Tell Tale Heart
Edgar Allan Poe uses concrete language and physical description to cast certain emotions to his
audience. Within his descriptions, he perfectly picks words to strike horror and dread. Through his
writing, Poe has become one who will never be forgotten. He will always be remembered as one of the
pivotal writers in the romantic period of writing. In his works The Cask of Amontillado , The Raven ,
and The Tell Tale Heart , he strategically describes people, events, and places for his readers to feel the
full effect and emotion he wants.
To understand how Edgar Allan Poe utilized descriptive paragraphs and so carefully picked his words,
we must understand the writing period he engaged in. Much like Poe, the romantic period of writing ...

In Douglas Birch s article for The Baltimore Sun, he shares the theory of psychologist Dr. Kay
Jamison who argues that Poe s writing was inspired by his feelings. Birch states in his article, Poe s
latest analyst calls him manic depressive Researcher links illness, inspiration , that Poe s fellow
students at the University of Virigina described him as a volatile personality. A volatile personality is
basically a loose cannon. At one moment, he could be sober, and in an instant, angry. Consequently,
his works reflected much of who he was. Nonetheless, Poe used his mental unstableness, whether he
meant to or not, to conceive some of the most intense stories ever told. The Cask of Amontillao holds
some of Poe s more descriptive language. He writes in a simple yet elegant way which allows any
reader to feel the full emotion of the work. Although simple, the short story is complex in a couple of
ways. In summary, Montresor s pride has been hurt by his once friend, Fortunato. Montresor takes

What Psychological Information Is Available From The Early...
Recognizing a face is a starting point when interacting socially, as it is the most important stimuli we
see. The face portrays information about a person s identity, their emotional state and where they are
directing their visual attention. To be able to process this information within a very short space of time
is crucial in social interactions and probably dates back to our ancestor s survival. The human brain is
very adept in processing an abundance of information in a simple yet effortless way. These processes
require such specific brain areas to do this. This essay is going to discuss what psychological
information is available from the early stages of face processing. The essay will discuss the
neuroscience and the regions of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When humans cognitively process faces this involves either holistic processing or configural
processing. There is evidence that the processing of faces is done much more holistically than with
objects as this comes from studies of inversion (Yin, 1969). An inverted face impairs the recognition
and is much more difficult to encode than with other objects and this could be due to the spatial
relations.
In facial recognition a face model was created by Bruce and Young in 1986 and is one of the most
influential face models to be created and is still used. It comprises of eight components: structural
encoding, expression analysis, facial speech analysis, directed visual processing, face recognition
nodes, person identity nodes, name generation and cognitive system. According to their face
recognition model various types of information are acquired from faces. When recognising a familiar
face, the components used depend largely on structural encoding, face recognition units, person
identity nodes and name generation. In comparison with an unfamiliar face, the components used
depend largely on structural encoding, expression analysis, facial speech analysis and directed visual
processing. However, as the face model created by Bruce and Young (1986) was quite complex, a
simpler version was created by Duchaine and Nakayama (2006) which provided four stages: face
detection, structural encoding, face memory and emotion/gender etc.
It is undeniable

Double Standard of Masculinity in Gender Role Socialization
Masculinity is a topic that has been debated in our society extensively, through research as well as in
informal settings. Many wonder what it means to be masculine, and if we can really assign a definition
to such a subjective term. After all, shouldn t one s own perception be the determinant of what
constitutes masculinity? This self construction would be the ideal in our society, but unfortunately, it
represents a false belief. Masculinity has certain characteristics assigned to it by our culture. In this
paper I will explore the many facets of masculinity and demonstrate how certain beliefs pertaining to
it are perpetuated in our society. I will also uncover many of the contradictions between society s
assigned definition of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most of what a young boy learns about what it means to be masculine is presented to him at such an
early stage that he accepts it as an inevitable truth. Often young boys can be found taunting and even
motivating each other with phrases like Don t be a (sissy) girl or Only girls do that. It seems that there
is a pervasive fear among all males that the worst possible insult is to be labeled a female. William
Betcher reports that some societies take this concept to an extreme. He talks of the initiation rites of
the Sambia of New Guinea saying, Initiation rites begin when boys are seven to ten years old and
include oral ingestion of older boys semen and painful bleeding by sticking grass reeds up the nose.
The bleeding is a counterpart of menstruation and semen is ingested instead of mother s milk (Betcher
1993). Although these actions seek to mark the boy as not a woman , ironically they incorporate basic
feminine biologic functions that men lack. br br Secondary socialization then acts in the later stages of
a boy s life to reaffirm society s beliefs about masculinity. As boys grow older, their bodies develop
and they enter junior high and high school. At this point they begin to really understand that physical
prowess and largess are the ideal. To see how this is done, we can simply look at the emphasis given
to athletics versus the emphasis given to academics in public schools. Understandably, how schools
emphasize athletics over academics is going to

Separation Of Public Spaces In To Kill A Mockingbird By...
The South was a volatile place when concerning the separation of the white and black communities.
Laws were put into place to solidify the separation of the races while providing equal opportunity to
all. However, these laws, known as the Jim Crow laws, were ratified to give the illusion of equality
while allowing for separation to continue. Though the image these laws held gave the impression of
equality, while the people did not hold equal status. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee explores the
racial tensions of separate but equal throughout the novel and how these ideas affected the daily lives
of those who lived during this time. Separation of public spaces and the relationships between the
people themselves are small examples of the realities of the laws effects on real people in the South.
The Jim Crow laws perpetuated the racial tension of the South rather than alleviating the problems by
sacrificing equality for the social norm of separation.
The physical separation of the white and black races was of great concern in the South and how each
of the races would interact with one another. This separation included preferential treatment of white
individuals over their black counterparts. While the people filed into the courthouse waiting for the
trial in To Kill a Mockingbird, the Negros, having waited for the white people to go upstairs, began to
come in (Lee 186). The physical separation continued as the Colored balcony ran along three walls of
the courtroom

Pros And Cons Of Bicameralism
1. Bicameralism: there and back again
In the last decades, several bicameral States in Europe revised or started to question the functioning or
the structure of their second chamber. In many cases, reforms of bicameralism affected both the form
of State i.e. the way the political power is located over the territory and the form of government i.e.
the relationships between the legislative and the executive powers. Eventually, this reform process
transformed the constitutional equilibriums of the EU, deepening its constitutional and political crisis
since in the absence of a formal European Constitution the constitutional essence of the EU legal
system is nothing but the intersection of the constitutional frameworks of its Members .

Immigrant Tragedy in The Cariboo CafĂŠ
Helena Maria Viramontes grew up in Los Angeles where relatives used to stay and live with her
family when making the transition from Mexico to the United States. This is where she got her first
taste of the lives of immigrants in this country within the urban barrios. Viramontes s writing reflects
this theme along with expressing her political opinions on the treatments of immigrants, especially
Chicanos and Latinos. In her short story The Cariboo CafĂŠ, Viramontes brings these ideas to life
through three sections narrated by different individuals tied into the story. The Cariboo CafĂŠ is a story
of Chicano immigrants and a Central American refugee. Along with these characters is the owner ...

It also introduces new people: Paulie a man who frequently visits the cafĂŠ, and JoJo, his son, who the
reader understands has died. The speaker also talks of Nell, his ex wife. Though there were things that
annoyed him about her, he still speaks fondly of her. For instance, he remarks, That s why Nell was
good to have ‘round. She could be a pain in the ass, you know, like making me hang those stupid
bells, but mostly she knew what to do. This allows the reader to see that the loss of his family has had
a deep impact on him. He misses his wife and son and speaks of how families should be together,
though his never will be again. This is what provokes him to do what he did next. The speaker sees a
young sister and brother come into the Cariboo CafĂŠ with their mother. He also sees this same woman
and children on T.V. with the report that the woman kidnapped these children. He states that he does
not ordinarily get involved in affairs like these; however, when the police show up at the cafĂŠ, he
points them toward the bathroom where the woman and two children are. The third section changes
speakers once again. The reader is now getting a first person narrative of a Central American refugee

In previous chapter of Acts 9, Saul was a persecutor of Jesus and the Disciples until Jesus called Saul

The War On The Islamic State Of Iraq And Syria Essay
In January 11, 2002, Guantanamo Bay (Gitmo) was opened as a prison camp at the Naval Military
Base in Cuba to detain terrorist suspects during the Bush Administration. Since President Obama took
office in 2008, continued operations of the prison camp has been largely debated between both the
Obama Administration and Congress ( Barrack ). Currently, there are 91 remaining detainees housed
at Gitmo. President Obama, in his 2016 State of the Union address, stated that he will continue to
work towards closing the prison because, ...it s expensive, unnecessary, and serves as a recruitment
tool for American enemies. Members of Congress, on the other hand, rejected President Obama s plan
to close the facility because his plan includes integrating a number of high risk detainees into our U.S.
Federal prisons which threatens the safety of the American people. The war on the Islamic State of
Iraq and Syria (ISIS) has developed over the last several years while our military base has been
reduced ( 2014 Trending ). Closing the prison camp will only send a message to our enemies that the
U.S. is, once again, retracting efforts to end the war. Gitmo should remain open as long as the war on
ISIS exists and it should continue to serve as a prison camp to terrorist groups but, the prison should
be reformed from its reputation of torturing detainees and serve primarily as a prison to house those
who are a threat to our United Sates citizens. As of now, the plan to transfer the 91

Casino Legislation Impacts The Local And State Economy
Casino legislation impacts the local and state economy. How it affects the economy fluctuates
depending on surrounding circumstances. These circumstances include location and who owns the
casino. A local casino will result in changes in Government revenue, public services, and surrounding
businesses. Casinos bring a local economy a new tax source and new jobs but it is crucial to look
further to see if casinos boost the local economy. In one article the writers state the benefits of the new
casino including new jobs and investment. Felsentein, Littlepage, Klacik (2000) then explain that
many casino jobs however require some specific training. This means many employees commute to
work. Also some of local casino employees leave previous jobs in community to come work in the
casino. The casino is not creating for the local economy if workers are commuting or leaving old jobs
(Felsentein, Littlepage, Klacik, 2000)
Where a casino is located is critical to how it affects the economy. A typical local casino does not
bring money to the area like Las Vegas or Atlantic City does. This is because most gamblers in these
two areas are tourist. Tourists bring money to an economy. In many local casinos the gamblers live in
the same city as the casino. When this is the case, gamblers are not bringing money to the economy;
they are transferring money that was already in the local economy. In an article written in 2002, the
Detroit Free Press stated casinos were responsible for draining

What if I was to tell you that everything you know about addiction is untrue? What if I was to say that
our pre conceived views on addiction were based on ignorance. It s pretty simple really, it s about
CONNECTION NOT addiction.
Good morning Mrs. Arnold, Ms. Shields and class, today I will be talking to you about addiction and
arguing how the treatment of this disease is actually quite simple. 1) we disconnected them from their
substance abuse 2) we reconnected them with important people in their lives who they love a value,
regardless of how damaged that relationship has become 3) 100% on time and energy should be spent
on strong relationships and moving them to next stage in their lives.
Have you ever watched someone you love fall into a spiral of darkness, crowded with pain, self
anguish and pure contradiction of both love and hatred for their weakness?.
A weakness which has both defined and collapsed every relationship, every situation that they have.
Despite this fixation, this person is thoroughly aware that it is in fact an enslavement, they know the
consequences, they are acquainted with direct results. And yet they continue to endeavor with this
drug. Why?
Firstly, I would like to begin by telling you all, that everything you know or have been taught about
addiction or the treatment of addiction, is untrue. Despite being students, we seem to have these pre
conceived ideas and ignorant views as to what this disease actually is. Deny it or not, I ve heard

Living A Health Conscious Lifestyle
Like many children, I went through the ubiquitous why stage. I constantly posed this question, even to
the smallest and most mundane events in life. Filled with genuine curiosity and love of learning, I
desired to understand the ornate workings of the world. Unlike the majority of children, however, I did
not lose this fervor and drive to find answers. This inquisitiveness laid the foundation for my interest
in research work. Growing up, my family placed a tremendous emphasis on health, fitness, and
nutrition.
From an early age, I appreciated the value of living a health conscious lifestyle. However, when my
older sister, Melissa, began to struggle with an eating disorder, I saw the detrimental effects that occur
when this healthy lifestyle is amplified to an all consuming extreme. Witnessing the immense
ramifications and toil that this disorder had on her instigated my interest in the psychology of eating
disorders and led me to countless questions that began with why? . Although this was in keeping with
my inquisitive nature, this time my questions evoked not only a search for answers but a distinctive
and enduring academic quest. By the time I was in 6th grade, I had confidently decided I would obtain
my PhD in clinical psychology. In an academic light, I sought to cultivate a professional
comprehension of eating disorders and dissect their intricate nature and the various methods of
treatment. My aspiration to pursue an active role in this field is chiefly

Similarities Between Benjamin Franklin And Malcolm X
Benjamin Franklin and Malcolm X were both influential people in their time. They are models of the
American Character, persistent, innovative, virtuous and courageous. Benjamin Franklin was even
given the title of The First American for his relentless campaign for colonial unity.
Benjamin Franklin is a man of many titles, along with being one of our founding fathers he also is an
author, the postmaster of the time, an inventor, a diplomat, a civic activist and many more things.
Franklin had three qualities that reflected the values and characters of Americans in the 18th Century.
He was virtuous, persistent, and innovative; these traits contribute to the reason he is pictured now as
the model for the American Dream. When he was only 20 years old, Benjamin Franklin crafted his
own 13 virtues to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of his virtues included Industry, Cleanliness, Silence, and Frugality which reflected values that
he thought were necessary to live a fruitful life. These virtues that were important to Franklin were
also important to the American people. The 18th century was a time for industry and many Americans
valued frugality to live a simple but prosperous life. Secondly, Benjamin Franklin was persistent. Like
many other leaders in the 18th century, he was relentless to achieve his goals and would not stop until
they were accomplished. Even at a young age when Benjamin Franklin wanted to become a printer,
and his father was set on him becoming a minister, he traveled to Pennsylvania to become an
apprentice and later ran the publication of the Pennsylvania Gazette, one of the most successful
newspapers of the time. His persistence mirrored that of the leaders of the American Revolution who
would not stop fighting until Freedom was achieved. Lastly, Franklin was innovative. His various
inventions such as the Franklin stove, the lightning rod, and bifocals changed the lives

The Doors Of The Opera House
Becca barged through the doors of the Opera House weighed down by a heavy ballet tote, a
substantially stuffed garment bag, and an oversized platter of peanut butter cup cookies. She moved
steadily in the direction of the designated cookie drop off.
When she finally got to the changing room, only a few other girls had arrived. Miss Claudine was in
the back of the room talking on her cell. She waved at Becca.
I m so excited! Abby cried.
I can t believe it s finally here, Shannon added with a bounce. We ve been practicing forever.
Are you nervous, Becca? Abby asked.
Becca nodded. A little, but I m ready.
You don t have anything to be nervous about. You re, like, the best dancer. You re amazing! Shannon
gushed.
Thank you, Becca replied with sincerity.
I don t know how you do it, Becca, Abby said with eyes bulging, especially the drop.
Miss Claudine finished her call and came over. You girls have worked so hard, she said. I have a
feeling tonight will be very special. The girls nodded in agreement, and their teacher moved on to
greet the next group arriving.
The dancers hurried into their costumes helping each other with zippers, extra bobby pins, and hair
spray. Becca was glad to be one of the first ready and to get out of the stuffy commotion filled room.
She went to the backstage area to begin practicing her dance steps. Within fifteen minutes, she was
surrounded by other dancers doing the same thing.

The Demon Lover By Elizabeth Bowen
Appearances Can Be Deceiving Mrs. Drover, the protagonist in the short story, The Demon Lover by
Elizabeth Bowen, finds herself haphazardly scrambling out of her abandoned townhome in London
and scampering into a taxi in need of refuge, only to find her worst nightmare waiting for her. The taxi
at the denouement of the short story represents Mrs. Drover s escape from the dark memories of the
old house. As soon as she feels sheltered from the house, the taxi whips around and zooms away as
she is left beating helplessly on the doors trying to escape. As Mrs. Dovers delightful and safehaven of

Drover s fate was not going to end well. The setting clouds, already piling up ink dark (Bowen 1206)
gives us the feeling that something dark, mysterious, or dangerous is awaiting in the distance. As she

lingering in through the shuttered up windows. There was a bruise on the wall from the door handle
banging against the wall with too much force, and claw marks (Bowen 1208) left from when the piano

Madness In Shakespeare s Hamlet
Madness is a condition in which is difficult to identify whether it is true or not. As in the encounter of
the ghost of Hamlet s father and Hamlet, Hamlet is asked to avenge his father s death. To accomplish
this task in a less apparent manner, Hamlet decides to put an antic disposition on. Consequently, his
behavior thereafter is frequently baffling. William Shakespeare, the writer of the tragic play Hamlet
leaves the audience to decide whether Hamlet is truly mad or not. Throughout Shakespeare s Hamlet,
Hamlet s questionable madness is explored through his real madness, feigned actions, and the
reactions of others towards his madness.
In some instances, Hamlet s madness can be seen as real. For example, Hamlet states as he makes a ...

Hamlet uses his feigned madness to his advantage to insult Polonius indirectly by cleverly crafting the
subject of his book towards the explicit description of Polonius. Clearly, Hamlet s wit shows that he
has not lost his reason and is not mad. Another example of Hamlet s feigned madness is Hamlet s
communication with the ghost of his father while Gertrude is present. Gertrude, who cannot see the
ghost, tells Hamlet, No, nothing but ourselves...this the very coinage of your brain./ This bodiless
creation ecstasy/ Is very cunning in... (3.4, 134 139). Gertrude thinks Hamlet is mad, because she sees
him talking to nothing. She thinks he is talking to himself. The audience knows that Hamlet is not in
fact mad, since the audience sees in the play that he is actually talking to the ghost of his father.
Because of Hamlet s madness, there are the reactions of others. After Polonius is informed by his
daughter, Ophelia, of Hamlet s madness, Polonius immediately goes to King Claudius and tells him he
has the reason for Hamlet s madness. Gertrude responds, I doubt it no other but the main,/ His father s
death and our o erhasty marriage (56 57). As Hamlet s mother, Hamlet s father s wife, and Hamlet s
father s brother s wife, Gertrude only sees the reasons for Hamlet s madness are his father s death and
her quick marriage to his father s brother. However, Polonius believes differently. He tells Claudius
how Ophelia obeyed his advice to

The Things They Carried Analysis
Story Truth and Happening Truth in
The Things They Carried
Throughout The Things They Carried, by Tim O Brien it is difficult to separate what is fictitious, and
what is true. During the entire work there are two different truths , which are story truth and happening
truth . Happening truth is the actual events that happen, and is the foundation or time line on which the
story is built on. Story truth is the molding or re shaping of the happening truth that allows the story to
be believable and enjoyable. It is not easy to distinguish happening truth from story truth , and at times
during the novel O brien reveals which is which. On the other hand, when the reader is blind to ...

Martha gave it to me herself (28). This makes the reader believe that the Tim O brien who wrote the
book is indeed the Tim O brien that is in the book, therefore this must be a true story from his
experiences in the Vietnam War. All the more, at the end of the chapter he even asks Jimmy Cross
permission to write the book the reader is looking at right then and there, At the end, though, as we
were walking out to his car, I told him that I d like to write a story about some of this... Why not? he
said... Make me out to be a good guy, okay? Brave and handsome, all that stuff. Best platoon leader

truth from story truth , but it is possible that Tim O brien and Jimmy Cross did in fact meet and talk
for a day, but the honest facts may be twisted by story truth . For example, O Brien may not remember
his and Jimmy Cross conversation throughout that entire day in great detail; therefore he may have
had to formulate and make up certain parts in order to fill in holes and perhaps make the interaction
more interesting. The first three words of the chapter How to Tell a True War Story are, This is true

chapter he has the reader thinking and confused when he contradicts himself by stating things such as,

The Political Landscape Of France
The political landscape in France had been shifting for a long time before the Enlightenment. The
economic and military gains made by Louis XIV, the Sun King, ultimately crippled the country later
when the Estates General failed to overthrow the French government democratically and peacefully.
Two great thinkers, Baron de Montesquieu and Jean Jacques Rousseau, both paved the way for the
French and other Enlightenment revolutions during the 18th and 19th centuries. Although neither of
the men saw the manifestations of their ideas in the American or French Revolutions, their influence is
unquestionable to these movements. Without the political and economic atmosphere in France and
Europe during the 18th and 19th century, the ideas and beliefs of thinkers like Montesquieu and
Rousseau would not have affected the Enlightenment or other vital political movements during that
era.
Charles Louis de Secondat, Baron de la Brede et de Montesquieu was born the 18th of January 1689.
In this same year, England would undergo the Glorious Revolution, which further removed power
from the monarchy and into Parliament. Ironically, one of Montesquieu s most well known ideas
followed the same vein of thought as the Glorious Revolution. His life began in Southwest France
where Montesquieu grew up with his aristocratic family. As part of his education, Montesquieu
studied law at the Catholic College of Juilly. During this period, some stark changes occurred in
France. In 1715, King Louis XIV

Investigation Of A Coil Gun
Abstract: The task of this assignment is to evaluate the of a coil gun using the variables of number of
rapes of coil and the distance the projectile will travel. Then will evaluate and investigate the physics
behind the gun. Aim: The purpose of this investigation the efficiency of a coil gun using the
relationship between the number of coils and the distance the projectile travelled. Hypothesis: In this
investigation there is a relationship between the number of coils and the distance the projectile
travelled. Therefore the more coils the further the projectiles will travel (cm). Prediction: As more
coils are wrapped around the gun, the distance of the projectile will increase. Literature Review: Coil

while they are similar in general concept (ie, a magnetic weapon), differ in operation, since a railgun
accelerates the missiles on two rails parallel conductors. The Gauss cannons are in substance identical

Julius Caesar Thesis
Gaius Julius Caesar, a man of honor, born on 13 July 100 BCE, is currently on the look to be our next
supreme ruler of the Roman Republic. He has been offered the crown three times to become our
Republic s new emperor after his astounding victory at the Battle of Munda. Even though most
prestigious generals would gladly accept the offer to rule this civilized republic, he did not. Not only is
Julius Caesar a great general, but he has also claimed descent from Ascanius, King of Alba Longa; son
of Trojan Prince Aeneas; son of Prince Anchises and goddess Venus. Julius Caesar, as he is most
commonly known, had a moderately tough childhood just like any other civilian out there. When he

denied to divorce her and proceeded with his regular life. Cornelia was also Julia Caesaris mother.
Julia is the only biological and undisputed heir of Julius Caesar. After Cornelia died in the year 69
BCE, Caesar instantaneously remarried to Pompeia, daughter of Quintus Pompeius Rufus. Caesar later
divorced Pompeia because of rumors going around that are not known. After this, Caesar married
Calpurnia, daughter of Lucius Calpurnius Piso Caesoninus.Caesar and Calpurnia are still married to

BCE he was elected into the military tribune, where he gained a lot of fame and recognition. He
obtained a seat in the senate around the same time he married Pompeia. In the year 63 BCE, when he
was only 37 years old, he was elected as the Pontifex Maximus. The Pontifex Maximus as most of you

Significance Of The Hero s Journey In The Odyssey
The Hero s Journey is a list of steps comprised by Joseph Campbell that describes the steps a hero
must take on his adventure. The works of Oh Brother Where Art Thou by the Coen brothers and The

things blow loose like that. As a hickory leaf skids by on the porch that is still summer green. From all
of the context clues provided, one can draw the conclusion that the hickory leaf represents the young
girl falling away from her rustic roots. As a leaf falls in autumn, typically the leaf is a red, brown, or
yellow, the hickory leaf in the story, however, is still summer green, giving hints as to the season the
story is set in. As the story goes on the reader can see how the girl is falling away from her roots as

and synapses to prevent amyloidosis and inhibit further aggregation56. In the CNS, nonneuronal cell
linages like astrocytes have been reported to have an elevated level of HSPs to target misfolded
protein degradation53. However, a major gap in the field is the lack of any such reports about the
extracellular chaperons in the protection of CNS and neuronal structure and function.
Although not fully understood, but it has been reported that different cells have different susceptibility
to proteotoxic stress. The unfolded protein response evoked by cells in response to proteotoxic stress
involves an orchestered functioning of the proteostasis pathways57.
Neuronal cells and cell of the central nervous system bear an increased risk of being burdened by
misfolded protein aggregates under stress or disease conditions. For example, dopaminergic neurons
in the substantia nigra in case of Parkinson s disease, motor neurons in the motor cortex and spinal
cord in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, cholinergic neurons in the hippocampus and entorhinal cortex in

Five Pillars Of Islam And Islam
Five Pillars of Islam All great things are built on a solid and strong foundation. The religion of Islam
is no different. The foundation on which Islam was built is known as The Five Pillars of Islam. These
are the essential duties that are required of all Muslims. The pillars are the shahadah (declaration of
faith), salah (establishment of the five ritual prayers), zakah (almsgiving), sawm (fasting the month of
Ramadan), and hajj (pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca). These five pillars are in the central
religious text of Islam, the Qur an, and are presented as the framework for worship and a sign of
commitment to faith (Esposito, Pillars of Islam ). The pillars are often compared to a creed such as
those seen in Christianity. While the two are similar in regards to the first pillar, they differ in that the
five pillars of Islam are acts or practices that Muslims must perform while a creed, as defined by
Merriam Webster dictionary, is a brief authoritative formula of religious belief. Shahadah, salah,
zakah, sawm, and hajj are the five obligations all Muslims have to satisfy to live a respectable life
according to Islam. They are the framework and foundation of a Muslim s life. The first pillar,
shahadah, is the declaration of faith. La ilaha illa Allah wa Muhammad rasul Allah . This translates to
There is no god but Allah and Muhammad is the prophet of Allah. This is the shahadah. All faithful
Muslims recite this and one must recite this sincerely, with

Genocide from the Jews in the Holocaust to the Mayans in...
Throughout world history, many manifestations occurred which led to horrific demeanors. In 1981,
Todd Strasser wrote a fictionalized novel known as The Wave, based on a real life event about an
experiment. This experiment, conducted in 1969 by Ron Jones in Palo Alto, California, proves how
effortlessly fascism can corrupt people. This experiment begins with a student s question about the
Holocaust which Jones cannot answer. The Holocaust was a horrific event that occurred from 1933 to
1945. This atrocity was initiated by Adolf Hitler, who tortured and murdered over eleven million
Jewish people in extermination camps. Today, the Holocaust is considered genocide, a word that was

In the final years of the war, Himmler and Eichmann proposed the concept to place the Jewish people
in camps and eliminate the rest of the Jewish people before the war was over; this concept was known
as the Final Solution. These SS soldiers are the main cause of the Holocaust because they were the
group that fully helped consummate Hitler s idea to remove the Jewish people out of Germany and, in
the end, they gave the orders to mass murder any Jew alive. In the pre war years, the Nazi Party
wanted to find a solution to the Jewish question meaning what to do with them ( Final Solution
Learning). On July 31, 1941, Heydrich submitted the draft of the measures he proposed to undertake
to implement the desired final solution of the Jewish Question ( SS ). In the fall of 1941, the Nazi
soldiers implemented the plan and began to effectuate it by experimental gassings in the Auschwitz
extermination camp and then moving forth to surrounding camps ( Final Solution Learning). Between
then and 1945, the top SS soldiers continued to give the orders to torture, mass shoot, gas (especially
in constructed extermination camps), enforce murderous labor, and other means ( Holocaust ). The
ideas, which were thought of by Himmler, Eichmann, and Heydrich, are what allowed for this
brutality to cause such a large scale genocide. Despite the eleven million

The Fayum Portraits

population lived for about four centuries.
Fayum portraits ...are the earliest painted portraits that have survived; they were painted whilst the
Gospels of the New Testament were being written John Berger, The Shape of a Pocket (Great Britain:

In their masterful style and method, the representations on wood boards took after the Greek painting
custom of delineating the subject in a three quarter view, with a single light source casting realistic
shadows and highlights on the face. In fact, since no works of art from the Greek world have been
protected, the portraits moderated by Egypt s parched atmosphere are the main cases of a fine art that
old abstract sources put among the most noteworthy accomplishments of Greek culture. Other than

Chapter 11 and 12
CRN 20654/Online
Chapter Eleven and Twelve The term Renaissance comes from the Renaissance. Several Italian
intellectuals of the late fourteenth and the early fifteenth centuries used the term rinascitĂ  ( rebirth ) to
describe their own age as one in which learning, literature, and the arts were reborn after a long, dark
Middle Ages. The approach here is that the Renaissance began in Italy about 1350 and in the rest of
Europe after 1450 and that it lasted until about 1620. It was a historical era with distinctive themes in
learning, politics, literature, art, religion, social life, and music. In the view of the humanists, the

architecture and the most prominent architect in Italy, during his lifetime. The other thinning the Battle

Check And Balances
Division of Checks and Balances The congress decided to pursue the idea of limiting the power of
government through check and balances. This system is written in our Constitution. The ideal
principles of making laws, enforcing and interpreting laws should be independent and efficient in
limiting each other s power. The two houses of congress provide limitations on each other. This
system was created because our founding fathers figured they did not want any tyranny. This was one
of their many goals and with this came federalism that balanced state and national government.
Jefferson and others felt this is what we needed to become more democratic and get closer to our
people. The checks and balances was created on the philosophy of Baron de ... Show more content on

Which is why dictators usually reserve the right of overriding their parliaments, government and
courts even though they designate power for most situations. It s also why dictatorships are far more
efficient in crisis situations i.e. war, then democracies. (Separation of Powers) Some likes to believe
that Machiavellian ideas about society do not hold, but the thought of philosophy, they do. Without
separation of powers, there wouldn t be a dictatorship, but feudal order, where the president for life
hands out favors to his assemblies which later on combines economic issues and violence to keep
control of society. However, if poorly instructed, with separation of powers one power keeps other
powers in check; if that does not work in society, nothing else does. This idea in the Constitution has
stopped many problems from arising. Real life conflicts that test the system have occurred throughout
history. After the Civil War President Andrew Johnson vetoed over 20 bills. After the Civil War
Congress overrode over 20 Presidential vetoes. In 1987 President Ronald Reagan appointed Judge

  • 3. In Depth Analysis Of Emicho And His Crusaders The first crusade started in 1096 B.C. when Pope Urban II called for the for a holy war. This was the beginning of the first crusade. What originally was supposed to be the taking back of Jerusalem led to the death of thousands of Jewish people. This with previous persecution of the Jews, by Christians, led to even more persecution of Jews. Pope Urban II called for a holy war in 1095. Urban wanted the Christians to take over the holy city of Jerusalem. He also said the Islamic people committed crimes against Christendom. When he called for this crusade he expected to have trained soldiers partake in the war and taking over of Jerusalem. I will examine four generations on my side of the family. I have included a genogram in the appendix to examine my personal intergenerational patterns for assessment. I will also examine my family of origin in the categories of race, ethnicity, religion, social class, geographic location, jobs, mental health and medical concerns. The paper concludes comparing Bowenian ideas to other systemic concepts. Race and Ethnicity Both my paternal and material families of origin are Caucasian. Ethnicity is Scotch Irish. With reasonable accuracy I have been able to determine that my maternal great great grandfather (not reflected on this genogram) was living as a young man in Georgia during the Civil War period. In my maternal line I am also told that there is a Cree Indian relative in my great grandparent line; time and place is unknown. Religion The grandparents of both sides of my family based their faith in fundamentalist Christianity. The dominant religious beliefs are Congregationalism or modern day Church of Christ on the maternal line primarily due to the influence of my maternal step grandmother Georgia. • 5. The Third Largest Coal Ash Spill The third largest coal ash spill in United States history has left some citizens in North Carolina fearing their water is not safe to drink. This fear is a result of anywhere between 50,000 and 82,000 tons of coal ash and up to twenty seven million gallons of contaminated water being dumped into the Dan River in Eden, North Carolina on February 2, 2014. The spill was caused by a busted storm drain pipe that ran under an unlined coal ash pond at Duke Energy s Dan River Combined Cycle Station ( Duke Energy s Grievous ). Coal ash is a byproduct of burning coal for energy and contains substances such as arsenic, lead, and mercury. These toxic chemicals are not only harmful to the environment but to the human population as well (Christian). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Listed below are the proposed draft risk classifications for each facility in North Carolina as of December 2015. Draft Proposed Impoundment Classifications. DEQ. 31 Dec. 2015. Web. 8 Apr. 2016. The coal ash that is buried underground still has the potential to seep into the neighboring water supply. Also, the high risk ponds will not be evacuated until 2019 and the low intermediate risk ponds as late as 2029. Subsequently, there will still be run off from these ponds polluting fresh water for the time being ( House, Senate Approve ). This settlement is not a win for residents surrounding these impoundments. Preventing seepage from coal ash ponds and completely removing the coal ashes away from fresh water is the only way North Carolinians will feel safe about their drinking water, no matter the proposed risk classification. For instance, the N.C. Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) handed out a Clean Water Act permit to the Duke Energy Riverbend coal ash site on Mountain Island Lake on the Catawba River which supplies water for Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, Mount Holly, and Gastonia. This pollution discharge permit is supposed to protect Mountain Island Lake from harmful coal ash pollution coming out of the Duke Energy s Riverbend facility. In 2015, Duke Energy pleaded guilty to criminal coal ash pollution and was issued to remove the coal ash pond at Riverbend. The coal ash lagoons are scheduled to be ... • 7. The Cask Of Amontillado, The Raven And The Tell Tale Heart Edgar Allan Poe uses concrete language and physical description to cast certain emotions to his audience. Within his descriptions, he perfectly picks words to strike horror and dread. Through his writing, Poe has become one who will never be forgotten. He will always be remembered as one of the pivotal writers in the romantic period of writing. In his works The Cask of Amontillado , The Raven , and The Tell Tale Heart , he strategically describes people, events, and places for his readers to feel the full effect and emotion he wants. To understand how Edgar Allan Poe utilized descriptive paragraphs and so carefully picked his words, we must understand the writing period he engaged in. In Douglas Birch s article for The Baltimore Sun, he shares the theory of psychologist Dr. Kay Jamison who argues that Poe s writing was inspired by his feelings. Birch states in his article, Poe s latest analyst calls him manic depressive Researcher links illness, inspiration , that Poe s fellow students at the University of Virigina described him as a volatile personality. A volatile personality is basically a loose cannon. At one moment, he could be sober, and in an instant, angry. Consequently, his works reflected much of who he was. Nonetheless, Poe used his mental unstableness, whether he meant to or not, to conceive some of the most intense stories ever told. The Cask of Amontillao holds some of Poe s more descriptive language. He writes in a simple yet elegant way which allows any reader to feel the full emotion of the work. Although simple, the short story is complex in a couple of ways. In summary, Montresor s pride has been hurt by his once friend, Fortunato. • 8. What Psychological Information Is Available From The Early... Recognizing a face is a starting point when interacting socially, as it is the most important stimuli we see. The face portrays information about a person s identity, their emotional state and where they are directing their visual attention. To be able to process this information within a very short space of time is crucial in social interactions and probably dates back to our ancestor s survival. The human brain is very adept in processing an abundance of information in a simple yet effortless way. These processes require such specific brain areas to do this. This essay is going to discuss what psychological information is available from the early stages of face processing. The essay will discuss the neuroscience and the regions of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When humans cognitively process faces this involves either holistic processing or configural processing. There is evidence that the processing of faces is done much more holistically than with objects as this comes from studies of inversion (Yin, 1969). An inverted face impairs the recognition and is much more difficult to encode than with other objects and this could be due to the spatial relations. In facial recognition a face model was created by Bruce and Young in 1986 and is one of the most influential face models to be created and is still used. It comprises of eight components: structural encoding, expression analysis, facial speech analysis, directed visual processing, face recognition nodes, person identity nodes, name generation and cognitive system. According to their face recognition model various types of information are acquired from faces. When recognising a familiar face, the components used depend largely on structural encoding, face recognition units, person identity nodes and name generation. In comparison with an unfamiliar face, the components used depend largely on structural encoding, expression analysis, facial speech analysis and directed visual processing. However, as the face model created by Bruce and Young (1986) was quite complex, a simpler version was created by Duchaine and Nakayama (2006) which provided four stages: face detection, structural encoding, face memory and emotion/gender etc. It is undeniable ... • 9. Double Standard of Masculinity in Gender Role Socialization Masculinity is a topic that has been debated in our society extensively, through research as well as in informal settings. Many wonder what it means to be masculine, and if we can really assign a definition to such a subjective term. After all, shouldn t one s own perception be the determinant of what constitutes masculinity? This self construction would be the ideal in our society, but unfortunately, it represents a false belief. Masculinity has certain characteristics assigned to it by our culture. In this paper I will explore the many facets of masculinity and demonstrate how certain beliefs pertaining to it are perpetuated in our society. I will also uncover many of the contradictions between society s assigned definition of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most of what a young boy learns about what it means to be masculine is presented to him at such an early stage that he accepts it as an inevitable truth. Often young boys can be found taunting and even motivating each other with phrases like Don t be a (sissy) girl or Only girls do that. It seems that there is a pervasive fear among all males that the worst possible insult is to be labeled a female. William Betcher reports that some societies take this concept to an extreme. He talks of the initiation rites of the Sambia of New Guinea saying, Initiation rites begin when boys are seven to ten years old and include oral ingestion of older boys semen and painful bleeding by sticking grass reeds up the nose. The bleeding is a counterpart of menstruation and semen is ingested instead of mother s milk (Betcher 1993). Although these actions seek to mark the boy as not a woman , ironically they incorporate basic feminine biologic functions that men lack. br br Secondary socialization then acts in the later stages of a boy s life to reaffirm society s beliefs about masculinity. As boys grow older, their bodies develop and they enter junior high and high school. At this point they begin to really understand that physical prowess and largess are the ideal. To see how this is done, we can simply look at the emphasis given to athletics versus the emphasis given to academics in public schools. • 10. Separation Of Public Spaces In To Kill A Mockingbird By... The South was a volatile place when concerning the separation of the white and black communities. Laws were put into place to solidify the separation of the races while providing equal opportunity to all. However, these laws, known as the Jim Crow laws, were ratified to give the illusion of equality while allowing for separation to continue. Though the image these laws held gave the impression of equality, while the people did not hold equal status. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee explores the racial tensions of separate but equal throughout the novel and how these ideas affected the daily lives of those who lived during this time. Separation of public spaces and the relationships between the people themselves are small examples of the realities of the laws effects on real people in the South. The Jim Crow laws perpetuated the racial tension of the South rather than alleviating the problems by sacrificing equality for the social norm of separation. The physical separation of the white and black races was of great concern in the South and how each of the races would interact with one another. This separation included preferential treatment of white individuals over their black counterparts. While the people filed into the courthouse waiting for the trial in To Kill a Mockingbird, the Negros, having waited for the white people to go upstairs, began to come in (Lee 186). The physical separation continued as the Colored balcony ran along three walls of the courtroom ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Pros And Cons Of Bicameralism 1. Bicameralism: there and back again In the last decades, several bicameral States in Europe revised or started to question the functioning or the structure of their second chamber. In many cases, reforms of bicameralism affected both the form of State i.e. the way the political power is located over the territory and the form of government i.e. the relationships between the legislative and the executive powers. Eventually, this reform process transformed the constitutional equilibriums of the EU, deepening its constitutional and political crisis since in the absence of a formal European Constitution the constitutional essence of the EU legal system is nothing but the intersection of the constitutional frameworks of its Members . He states that he does not ordinarily get involved in affairs like these; however, when the police show up at the cafĂŠ, he points them toward the bathroom where the woman and two children are. The third section changes speakers once again. The reader is now getting a first person narrative of a Central American refugee woman. • 15. The War On The Islamic State Of Iraq And Syria Essay In January 11, 2002, Guantanamo Bay (Gitmo) was opened as a prison camp at the Naval Military Base in Cuba to detain terrorist suspects during the Bush Administration. Since President Obama took office in 2008, continued operations of the prison camp has been largely debated between both the Obama Administration and Congress ( Barrack ). Currently, there are 91 remaining detainees housed at Gitmo. President Obama, in his 2016 State of the Union address, stated that he will continue to work towards closing the prison because, ...it s expensive, unnecessary, and serves as a recruitment tool for American enemies. Members of Congress, on the other hand, rejected President Obama s plan to close the facility because his plan includes integrating a number of high risk detainees into our U.S. Federal prisons which threatens the safety of the American people. The war on the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) has developed over the last several years while our military base has been reduced ( 2014 Trending ). Closing the prison camp will only send a message to our enemies that the U.S. is, once again, retracting efforts to end the war. Gitmo should remain open as long as the war on ISIS exists and it should continue to serve as a prison camp to terrorist groups but, the prison should be reformed from its reputation of torturing detainees and serve primarily as a prison to house those who are a threat to our United Sates citizens. The economic and military gains made by Louis XIV, the Sun King, ultimately crippled the country later when the Estates General failed to overthrow the French government democratically and peacefully. Two great thinkers, Baron de Montesquieu and Jean Jacques Rousseau, both paved the way for the French and other Enlightenment revolutions during the 18th and 19th centuries. Although neither of the men saw the manifestations of their ideas in the American or French Revolutions, their influence is unquestionable to these movements. Without the political and economic atmosphere in France and Europe during the 18th and 19th century, the ideas and beliefs of thinkers like Montesquieu and Rousseau would not have affected the Enlightenment or other vital political movements during that era. Then will evaluate and investigate the physics behind the gun. Aim: The purpose of this investigation the efficiency of a coil gun using the relationship between the number of coils and the distance the projectile travelled. Hypothesis: In this investigation there is a relationship between the number of coils and the distance the projectile travelled. Therefore the more coils the further the projectiles will travel (cm). Prediction: As more coils are wrapped around the gun, the distance of the projectile will increase. Literature Review: Coil gun A coilgun (aka gun Gauss, Gauss Gauss cannon or rifle) is a type of gun that uses a series of electromagnets for magnetically accelerate a projectile at high speed. The name Gauss gun comes from Carl Friedrich Gauss, who formulated the mathematical proofs of the electromagnetic effect used by Gauss cannons. The Gauss cannons are often called wrongly railguns from various sources, and while they are similar in general concept (ie, a magnetic weapon), differ in operation, since a railgun accelerates the missiles on two rails parallel conductors. In the CNS, nonneuronal cell linages like astrocytes have been reported to have an elevated level of HSPs to target misfolded protein degradation53. However, a major gap in the field is the lack of any such reports about the extracellular chaperons in the protection of CNS and neuronal structure and function. Although not fully understood, but it has been reported that different cells have different susceptibility to proteotoxic stress. The unfolded protein response evoked by cells in response to proteotoxic stress involves an orchestered functioning of the proteostasis pathways57. Neuronal cells and cell of the central nervous system bear an increased risk of being burdened by misfolded protein aggregates under stress or disease conditions. For example, dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra in case of Parkinson s disease, motor neurons in the motor cortex and spinal cord in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, cholinergic neurons in the hippocampus and entorhinal cortex in case of Alzheimer s disease, are those cells with greater susceptibility in comparison to other cells51. One way of looking at this is to explore the difference in terms of the expression of the proteostasis components in these cells, and that of the pathological marker proteins like amyloid β, Îą synuclein, Lewy body, huntingtin and bunnina bodies51.
