President Harry S. Truman

May 17, 2015
Presidential Research Paper
President Harry S. Truman wasn t only just a president, he was a US army soldier, a democratic
senator, presiding judge, and a vice president. Before his presidency, he fought in World War 1.
Recapping his roles before the presidency, once the war ended, Truman got discharged from the
army and then went to attend Kansas City school of law. This is when he was on the road to
becoming president. In 1933 Franklin d Roosevelt was elected 32nd president. Harry S. got
elected presiding judge of the Jackson County Court and then was sworn in. He served two four
year terms through 1934 as a judge. During this time Harry Truman became a U.S. senator by
1935. On August 31, 1944 Truman commences his vice presidential campaign from where he was
born Lamar, Missouri. Shortly afterwards, Truman was elected vice president on November 7 of
the same year.
Following the death of Franklin D. Roosevelt, Harry Truman was sworn in as thirty third president
of the United States of America on April 12, 1945. A day after Germany surrendered to the Allies,
Truman called for the end of the war in Europe; this is known as V E Day, aka Victory in Europe
Day. This is now a public holiday celebrated on May 8th 1945. World War II (1939 19455) had
been going on before Truman got into office as president. Although he wasn t in office when it
started, he had been in office when it ended. August 6, 1945 was the day Truman called for

Satyajit Ray Protest And Rebellion
Protest and Negotiation in Satyajit Ray s Calcutta Trilogy
I. Introduction
Satyajit Ray (2 May, 1921 23 April, 1992) is one of the best directors from the golden era of
Bengali cinema (1952 1975). During that period parallel cinema movement emerged in India. This
parallel cinema movement was mainly led by Bengali cinema. Satyajit Ray was born in Calcutta,
and his family was very prominent in the field of arts and literature. He earned his reputation with
his first film Pather Panchali (1955), it won eleven international awards, and with this film, he
introduced Bengali cinema to the world. And now he is widely admired as one of the best
filmmakers of the 20th century. He received his bachelor from the University of Calcutta in

However, Naxalism in Bengal should also be seen in the context of the vast wave of international
protest sweeping the world in the 1960s and 70s the centered on American aggression in Vietnam,
but which also denounced such things as apartheid in South Africa and nuclear arms, as well as
expressing antagonism towards capitalism, privilege and neo colonialism, no matter how vaguely
they may have been. The anger of protest in Kolkata in the seventies, with Naxalism in its
vanguard, was fanned strongly by the various elements of international protest as

LDCT Screening
According to recent studies at Indiana Universty School of Medicine, alternative methods for
detecting non small cell lung cancer are emerging. The current methods of detecting NSCLC may
be effective, but they are also very expensive. One method called a low dose computed tomography
(LDCT) has been successful in identifying malignant tumors. However, routine LDCT screenings
would result in 1.3 to 2 billion dollars nationally in health care costs annually. Deig, Mendonca, and
Lautenschlaeger suggest that pursuing other methods of screening for NSCLC would significantly
decrease this cost. If screenings could be conducted in a cost efficient and effective manner, then
the expensive LDCT procedure would only have to be conducted for patients who... Show more

Biomarkers are natural indicators in the body that respond noticeably to the presence of disease.
By measuring the responses of biomarkers, oncologists detect the cancerous cells before
recommending expensive procedures, rather than immediately resorting to these procedures. One
of these biomarkers that responds to the presence of cancerous cells is microRNA. MicroRNAs
are molecules that are involved in the cell life cycle and therefore the progression of cancerous
cells. A study in cancerpatients was conducted to compare the accuracy of screening with
microRNAs to screening with LDCT. Observing microRNAs did not prove to be as accurate at
identifying cancer as LDCT, but since using microRNAs is a less expensive process, it can
identify patients that should undergo LCDT testing. Screening with microRNA testing initially
would decrease the number of patients paying for LCDT testing. Another biomarker that can be
observed in response to cancer is ct DNA. Ct DNA refers to fragments of DNA from tumors
found circulating in the blood stream. A recent study indicated that observing ct DNA could have
multiple useful applications for oncologists. Ct DNA analysis during treatment could serve as an
indication of how tumors react to treatment methods and whether recurrence is likely. Detecting
ct DNA in the bloodstream could even serve as an early sign of cancer, observable before imaging
tests even show tumors. However, ct DNA analysis has not yet proved to be a replacement for

Jurgis And The Family In The Jungle By Upton Sinclair
Sinclair emphasizes that the downfall of Jurgis and the family was caused by capitalism and
pursuing the American dream. Sinclair is addressing readers who wonder why Jurgis has adopted
these new values and why many people scam and cheat system. Now in my opinion, he is trying
to put you in their shoes, to ask yourself if you would push through, even when your best isn t
enough. This is the best way, if not the only way, to survive the jungle. Sinclair writes about how
Juozapas was digging in the dump, and instead of food, he found a young, rich lady that would
later offer Jurgis a job at the steel mill after the family s touching story. Sinclair inserts this event
into the book in order to show the reader how different immigrants were treated

Ice Fili (АЙС θРЛР) You cannot defeat a nation that enjoys ice cream at minus 40
Celsius. Winston Churchill To survive in Russia s ice cream industry during the 11 years since
the collapse of the former Soviet Union was no small feat (see Exhibits 1 and 2). To be successful
in these turbulent times was nothing short of amazing to industry observers. In 2002, Ice Fili, a
midsized Russian company with more than $25 million in sales, was Russia s top ice cream
producer. Surprisingly, it had outlasted several well known international companies such as Ben

and Europe (reminiscent of whipped cream). Also, traditional Russian ice cream was made with
all natural ingredients and did not contain preservatives. It was believed that Russian consumers
were generally more concerned about preservatives in food than fat levels. According to an
industry trade association representative, Millions of foreigners, after arriving in Moscow and
tasting our ice cream, have proclaimed Russian ice cream to be the best in the world. 7 In the
selling of ice cream, many products competed for the consumer dollar, including beer (Baltica
and dozens of other domestic brands), soda (primarily Pepsi and Coke), yogurts, chocolate
(Mars, NestlГ©, and numerous domestic players such as Red October), and other confectionary
candies. The producers of these products often spent considerably more on advertising than ice
cream producers.8 In 2001, ice cream producers spent less than $5 million on advertising in
Russia (1% of sales), while the $4.5 billion Russian beer market spent approximately $90 million
(2% of sales) and the soft drink industry spent almost $200 million (7% of sales) on advertising.9
The beer, soft drink, and confectionary industries enjoyed increasing market demand rather than the
depressed trend found in the Russian ice cream industry. In 2000, the production of ice cream was

The US Embargo on Cuba Essay
The US Embargo on Cuba
I. Introduction
In 1959, Cubareceived 74 percent of its imports from the US, and the US received 65 percentof
Cuba s exports. On February 3, 1962, the United States imposed a fulltrade embargo on Cuba,
completely ending any type of trade between the twocountries. This embargo remains in effect
today, more than four decades later, and has grown ! to be a huge center of debate and controversy
(DeVarona 8).Opponentsto the embargo argue that the embargo does nothing more than hurt

International reports that suspected critics of thegovernment are being harassed with threats,
eviction, loss of employment, andeven short term incarceration. Even more disturbing is that these
violationsare merely a fraction of the true number of human rights breaches that theCuban
government is guilty of committing ( Amnesty International 2002Report ). But the human rights
violations are not the only reason actionneeded to be taken towards Cuba.
Another reason forimplementing the embargo on Cuba concerns the corrupt communist
government andUS hopes of promoting a transition to a democratic system. On February 3,
1962,President Kennedy was confident that Castro was moving toward theestablishment of a to!
talitarian regime in alliance with the Soviet Union (DeVarona 7). This raised a huge national
defense issue since Cuba is only 90miles from US soil. The US government claims that the
transition from communismto democracy will help Cuba flourish, as other democratic countries in
thewestern hemisphere have. ( Cuban Liberty and Democratic Solidarity Act of1996 ).

SWOT Analysis: Tunisian Energy System
First A. Author, Fellow, IEEE, Second B. Author, and Third C. Author, Jr., Member, IEEE
Abstract The development of Renewable Energy (RE) sources and Energy Efficiency (EE)
technologies is a central aim of the world energy policy. A several international programs and
investments was developed in order to contribute in reducing Greenhouse Gas (GHG). The
majority of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) countries possess substantial potential for
the implementation of such projects. Abatement of GHG emissions can mainly be achieved
through utilizing the abundant RE sources in the region and the implementation of EE measures.
Tunisia belong to those potential countries and is one of the few developing countries that have
developed a proactive policy for the promotion of RE and EE already in 1985. This paper will
present the current status of the Tunisian energy system and the existing policies. An analysis of its
strengths and weaknesses will be also discussed.

Reverend Hale Changes In The Crucible
In The Crucible, there are many complex characters who shift throughout the play. Reverend
Hale was one of the most complex of these characters. Hale s changes were a direct result of the
trials. Because of this Hale s changes can be traced through his actions and motivations.
Throughout the play, Reverend Hale was changed by his faith, his knowledge of the truth, and by
his guilt. From the beginning of the play, it was quite clear that Reverend Hale s character was
deeply rooted in his faith and understanding. Hale firmly believes that everything in life can be
explained by books. This becomes evident when he is prompted about the weight of his books. He
responds, They are weighted with authority (Miller, Act I). Hale believes that the truth... Show more

For example, Hale went down to the jail in order to convince the accused to confess to
witchcraft. To confess to witchcraft would be to lie, which was a damnable sin. Hale at this
point believed that life was more important than dying for pride. This is extremely different from
his faith in the first act, which was unwavering. He valued life over faith, something he never
would have considered before. Hale also allowed his guilt to motivate his actions. He says, Why
it is all simple. I come to do the Devil s work. I come to counsel Christians to belie themselves.
(His sarcasm collapses.) There is blood on my head! Can you not see the blood on my head!
(Miller, Act IV). His guilt consumed him and caused him to abandon his beliefs. Reverend Hale
was a complex character whose changes could be observed through his actions and motivations.
Hale shifted from being a devote Puritan to abandoning his faith entirely. He went from fully
believing in the trials to damning them and becoming consumed by guilt because of them. Hale s
complexity adds to the play by showing how intense the trials were and how even the most devote

Lack Of Explicit Team Norms
There s No I in TEAM. Proverb
Have you ever heard the saying, A chain is only as strong as its weakest link ? This analogy also
applies to the performance of virtual teams. Team Johnny Bravo started out with good intentions,
but struggled to find balance working within a Leaderless, Modular design structure. A lack of
explicit team norms will impact communication and production efforts. This paper will discuss four
operating norms, concerns with a lack of norms, actions to overcome those concerns and norm
recommendations for Team Johnny Bravo.
Norms
You have to learn the rules of the game. And then you have to play better than anyone else.
Unknown
According to Mocha (2007), working anywhere and everywhere is a concept of globalization.
Although work is pushing around the world, remote team members need to exhibit a common and
acceptable set of behaviors referred to as norms.
In his research Settle Murphy (2012), found that established norms within successful virtual teams,
dictated how the group functioned. It is important to note, norms and rules are not one in the same,
but they work together to form a team s identity. an important function of a successful team. Often,
the earlier these norms can be established, the better. While rules play a part in establishing norms,
norms can also be unspoken where rules are not. Team Johnny Bravo established communication
and task norms. Below are four of those norms that operate within the team:

Abstract This paper presents the original findings of an approach to adopting the bit stream signal
to control a system. It contains the initial design process and simulations of a bit stream based PID
controller to control and stabilize the output of a proposed Capacitive Power Transfer system in the
discrete time domain. Processing The simulated results use MATLAB s Simulink and illustrate the
potential performance of the controller. Compared against simulations of a similar nature in
continuous time, the bit stream implemented system yields near identical results.

Argumentative Essay On Comedy
Comedy is defined as professional entertainment consisting of jokes and satirical sketches,
intended to make an audience laugh. Comedy is meant to make you laugh, whether it is a joke
against the world or the comedian is using themselves or their personal experiences to get an
audience to relate to it, making them laugh. Comedians use different techniques to connect with
their audience. According to Mel Brooks, Humor is just another defense against the universe.
Many comedians such as, George Carlin, Demetri Martin, and Christopher Titus are well known
comedians that use these methods to get a laugh from their audience, but to also make a point to
their audience. Humor is a defense mechanism that most comedians use to cope with problems
they have had in their past or issues they have with the world. Christopher Titus is an Emmy
Award winning comedian. Christopher Titus did not grow up in your ideal house. His parents
were divorced, his mother, Juanita had schizophrenia and eventually committed suicide. His dad,

All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque Essay
All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque
All Quiet on the Western Front was written in a first person style. The story was told by Paul
BaГјmer, a nineteen year old student, convinced to enlist with the German army by his
schoolmaster, Kantorek. Along with many of his friends from school, he is trained under Corporal
Himmelstoss, a strictly disciplined commander who dislikes Paul because of his defiance.
When sent to the front, Paul, along with his other friends, made new friendships that would last
throughout time. His newly made friend/commander, was a man named Stanislaus Katczinsky. As
a man of forty years of age he was a wise old man as well as a friend to the young eighteen and

One day the French came and began shelling the village. While evacuating Paul and his friend
Albert Kropp were injured by gunshot wounds. They were bandaged up and sent on a train back
home.
This ride home took a turn. When Kropp got a fever he was scheduled to be dropped off at the
next stop. In order for Paul to stay with his friend, he had to convince the nurse that he also was
sick from infection. After being dropped off they were taken to a Catholic hospital to be treated.
After a few weeks Kropp s leg is overcome with infection and is amputated at the thigh. After a few
more weeks Paul and Kropp parted, Paul going back to the war and Kropp going home.
Returning to the front was hard for Paul. The days were getting cold and one by one he watched
his friends die. The hardest loss was that of Kat. After Kat had been shot, Paul had to carry Kat
to the nearest dressing station a few miles away. Stopping every few minutes to rest, Paul
frequently checked to make sure that Kat, even with his injury, was ok. When at last Paul
reached the dressing station the nurse told him that Kat was dead. When Paul checked again a
small shell fragment had just penetrated that back of Kat s head. He was still even warm. Kat
was the last of Paul s friends to die in the war. Then, in October of 1918, Paul finally fell. The
book describes his death as, ...his face had an expression of calm, as though almost glad the end

The Five Stages Of Grief
It s ironic that Elizabeth Kubler Ross theory, of the five stages of grief is present in the story
Hamlet by William Shakespeare after so many centuries later. Hamlet is believed to be the most
dramatic play in history, and comes with many personal conflicts that people still today will
struggle with. In Hamlet , the main character, Hamlet goes through the 5 stages of griefthroughout
the story. Elizabeth Kubler Ross developed a theory based on how she believes to be the stages
of acceptance of death. The 5 stages of grief and loss are: 1. Denial and isolation; 2. Anger; 3.
Bargaining; 4. Depression; 5. Acceptance. People who are grieving do not necessarily go
through the stages in the same order or experience all of them. (Axelrod, 2016) Even though,
Hamlet repeats some of these stages, and is involved in multiple stages at the same time, he does
in fact experience through all these stages. Hamlet the Danish prince, son of Gertrude, grieve for
the death of his father. The unexpected passing of his father causes Hamlet to experience a roller
coaster of emotions. The death of his father is not the only thing he struggles with, but the
marriage between his mother and uncle troubles him also. He feels as if his mother has betrayed
him, and did not give him the proper time to grief over the fatality of his father. Claudius, Hamlet s
uncle, not only replaced his father, but he also inherited the throne that was supposed to be passed
down to Hamlet. When Horatio and the

William Shakespeare s The Winter s Tale
Shakespeare s The Winter s Tale can be viewed as a tragicomedy that draws upon elements of As
You Like It and Othello. Similar themes of trust, love, treachery, infidelity and tyranny are found
throughout all three plays. While The Winter s Tale and As You Like It share similar happy
endings, Othello shares more concepts with The Winter s Tale, but ends with a much more tragic
ending. Both Leontes and Othellohave severe trust issues and accuse their wives of having affairs.
In these plays, both kings end up being incorrect and therefore produce really dramatic story lines.
In Othello, Iagoplants the seed of jealousy in Othello s mind, as opposed to in The Winter s Tale,
in which Leontes s own paranoia feeds this idea in his mind to the point where he orders his
wife and baby to be sent away. As You Like It is a play which encompasses themes of love and
issues of brotherhood and violation of primogeniture. The conflicts raised at the beginning of the
play are resolved at the end of the play just like in The Winter s Tale. Act V of The Winter s Tale
draws elements from the other plays when the truth is finally revealed about the innocent wives and
when there is a happy ending in the plays other than Othello. The main difference between these
two plays, is that Othello ends with tragedyand multiple deaths, and The Winter s Tale ends with
family unity and happiness. The Winter s Tale is labeled as a tragic comedy because the first three

Analysis Of The Swimmer By John Cheever
John Cheever s writing always reflected his own life in some aspect. In one work he has called
Expelled He tells the story of how he did get expelled from school in detail. In some way Cheever
interprets his own personal experiences into the characters of his stories. In one specific short story,
The Swimmer, Cheever uses the the character Ned s experience to symbolize life. Although it is a
short story, the essence of time in the work is directly related to an entire lifetime. Through the
course of the story there are different emotions represented by the changing of seasons, colors,
temperature, nature, and also people. In The Swimmer . Ned s experience directly correlates to
John Cheevers idea of life.
The Swimmer follows the character Ned through his attempt to swim the county as he swims
across multiple families pools. He does this and also speaks with many people at the houses
parties and also drinks throughout the journey. Ned experiences different and fatigued emotions
as well as physical fatigue. It is midsummer as this journey takes place and the seasons begin to
change from summer to autumn. At the end of his journey he reaches his home which turns out
to be empty. Specifically when Ned was wet from swimming he sensed a storm coming and took
shelter in a gazebo. It is in this instance that he realizes the change of the seasons. The rain had

Diodorus Essay
Shelley s friend the banker Horace Smith stayed with the poet and his wife Mary (author of
Frankenstein) in the Christmas season of 1817. One evening, they began to discuss recent
discoveries in the Near East. In the wake of Napoleon s conquest of Egypt in 1798, the
archeological treasures found there stimulated the European imagination. The power of pharaonic
Egypt had seemed eternal, but now this once great empire was (and had long been) in ruins, a
feeble shadow.
Shelley and Smith remembered the Roman era historian Diodorus Siculus, who described a statue
of Ozymandias, more commonly known as Rameses II (possibly the pharaoh referred to in the
Book of Exodus). Diodorus reports the inscription on the statue, which he claims was the largest
in Egypt, as follows: King of Kings Ozymandias am I. If any want to know how great I am and
where I lie, let him outdo me in my work. (The statue and its inscription do not survive, and were
not seen by Shelley; his inspiration for Ozymandias was verbal rather than visual.)
Stimulated by their conversation, Smith and Shelley wrote sonnets based on the passage in
Diodorus. Smith produced a now forgotten poem with the unfortunate title On a Stupendous Leg of
Granite, Discovered Standing by Itself in the Deserts of Egypt, with the Inscription Inserted Below.

nothing about the rest of the face; he describes only the mouth, with its frown,/And wrinkled lip,

tyrannical kind that Shelley despised. Ozymandias resembles the monstrous George III of our other

Essay On The Trojan War
During the time of the ancient Greeks, there was much tension between the Trojans and the
Greeks, leading to the famous Trojan War. It all started when Paris, the prince of the magnificent
city of Troy, abducted a woman after making a deal with the goddess of love, Aphrodite. There
are many variations on how the war began and the battles that took place during it, but one event
stayed for certain: The story of the large, wooden horse that lead to the downfall of Troy. Most of
the information about this historical event was recorded in Homer s famous works, The Iliadand The
Odyssey. The Trojan War
was started by a petty feud between three goddesses, fought by brave
warriors, and recorded in Homer s Iliad and Odyssey.
Conflicts began between the Trojans and the Greeks began long ago when King Peleus, who later
on became the father of the Trojan War hero, Achilles
, married Thetis, a sea nymph. Their
marriage was celebrated by the all of the gods except for the goddess of discord and strife, Eris,
who was not included in the celebration, (History.com). Infuriated, Eris threw her gift, a golden
apple who was to be gifted to the fairest, amongst the guest. This wedding lead to the Trojan War
because of the feud between the three goddesses, Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite, that occurred next.
They quarreled over the apple and the title of it possessed and decided to ask Paris, a mortal
prince, who truly was the fairest, most magnificent, goddess. They then bribed Paris with riches

Imperialism In Ww2
Prior to the outbreak of the Second World War, a number of Western nations had colonies in
Southeast Asia, but as the century progressed there was more and more opposition to colonial rule
in the form of nationalism. Through their Asia for Asians policy, as well as their destruction of the
myth of European supremacy, Japanese involvement in East Asiacreated the perfect breeding
ground not only for nationalist movements, but for the spread of communism.
While communism was a growing influence in these nations, it was still considered one of many
nationalist movements, rather than the driving force. Once Japan would seize control of territory
from the Western forces they would portray Japanese colonialism as an Asian liberation movement
(the Asia for Asians policy) from their white oppressors. Additionally, the Japanese would routinely
install puppet governments with anti colonial leaders at the head in an attempt to eliminate all
traces of Western rule, and show Asian nations that they were capable of governance without the
interference of Europeans.
Following the defeat of the Japanese in 1945, many of the imperial nations desired ... Show more

Essay about The Ever Evolving Age of Social Networking
Changing and ever evolving, technology has impacted everybody s lives in an irrevocable
manner . Beginning in 2003 with MySpace, social networking is one aspect that has completely
revolutionized people s everyday lives. The empire created by MySpace was then further
expanded by a new generation of social networks such as Facebook and Twitter. This era was
marked with innovative new features including video chat and increased commercialization of
businesses, leading to increased popularity and growth which is intangible. The change in social
networking over the past several years has modernized the daily lives of the common people

incredible rate. In essence, MySpace, while an excellent start, ultimately did not meet the
expectations of its users. Nevertheless, its demise has led to immense improvement in the next
generation networks.
A major advancement in the field of social networking was led by the innovative founders of
Facebook and Twitter. Mark Zuckerberg, cofounder of Facebook, has had an enormous impact on
the development of social networking sites in general by creating the high standards of expectation
through constantly updating and improving Facebook. His pioneering thoughts on what a social

of the people who had a MySpace account switched to Facebook with the primary reason being its

Emerson Self Reliance
Emerson starts of the first pages of his enlightened essay with 3 epigraphs one in Latin that
translates to Do not seek outside yourself and That is only one of Emerson s suggestions you
take to achieve self reliance. The next epigraph in Emerson s first pages is a six line stanza from
Beaumont and Fletcher s Honest Man s Fortune and after that is one is a four line stanza that
seems to have been written by Emerson himself. All three epigraphs stress the necessity of
relying on on your self for knowledge and guidance which is the main idea of basically the whole
essay. Emerson talks about originality, self trust, character, society and conforming to it, nature,
family, and religion. Now don t be fooled I am not listing all of Emerson s points in order I am
simply explaining all he covers in his essay to further explain why or why they cannot work in
2017. Emerson begins his argument with individualismby talking about how you should form your
own ideas instead of conforming to others ideas. To believe that what is true in your private heart
is true for all men that is genius. Someone who doubts someone else s individualopinion and
chooses to conform his own opinion to what society has to say afraid if being criticized himself
and he lacks the ability to even produce a thoughtof sufficient power and originality. So because
the individual can not form his own opinion then he is a victim of society and he is handed down

Situation:
MarketSoft founded by Greg Erman, in 1999 had designed an innovative software product that
addressed the problem of managing sales leads across the extended enterprise . The product
eLeads was strategically developed upon extensive research to address three critical areas many of
the fortune 1000 companies in the modern times are facing: 1.Leads get lost 2. No qualifying
systems for the leads exist and 3.The leads are never tracked.
Problems:
1. The entire product was built based on customer needs that were identified by querying an
extensive network of sales and marketing industry professionals. While MarketSoft used an

The obvious benefit of targeting this particular blue chip market segment as addressed in the
second problem could be both monetary and that a greater number of market leads can be fed into
the software when mining a larger market and could lead to minimization of the confidence
interval error ratio. However mid size markets and companies who are players in this segment
should not be ignored. The problem in ignoring them is that MarketSoft is leaving a large segment
of the market unattended and these mid level companies have a potential to grow into larger
corporations. By ignoring this market segment MarketSoft will essentially have lost an opportunity
to have developed a future clientele base
Recommendation:
Problem 1 can be addressed by following the open ended questions with specific targeted questions
that would allow focused answering, leading to better data mining which will help zero in on
exactly what the need is and ultimately help refine the product characteristics with more finesse.
A suitable recommendation to address the second problem is that these middle markets should also
be targeted and the software should be refined to cater to these current needs with an ability to
expand along with the client s business needs. To make MarketSoft accessible to also companies that

George Washington, The World s Greatest Leader Essay
George Washington, The World s Greatest Leader
On April 30, 1789, George Washington took his oath of office as the first President of the United
States. He knew that not only would he be faced with the challenge of leading a young nation
with a plethora of problems, but that his every move and decision would be scrutinized and,
hopefully, emulated by his successors. As the first of every thing (SP), in our situation will serve
to establish a Precedent, he wrote James Madison, it is devoutly wished on my part, that these
precedents may be fixed on true principles. (George Washington). Not only was every decision a
precedent, as stated in mountvernon.org: in every turn America as a young country was in peril;
every decision was layered with implications, competing passions, political pettiness, danger.
(Mount Vernon).
Why did George Washington emerge as the most significant leader in the founding of the United
States of America, even to the extent of being called the Father of the Country? The facts show us
that he led the Continental Army to victory in the American Revolutionary Warover what was at the
time the world s most powerful military. Later, as president, he guided the United States in its
formative years. His leadership and vision established a foundation that would transform America
from 13 loosely connected states into an unequalled economic and military superpower.

Degenerative disorder is a condition that leads to progressive loss of function. Osteoarthritis is the
most common form of degenerative disease and its prevalence is significantly increasing.
According to Block and Scanzello (2016) says in next 2030, there will be 67 million people
affected with osteoarthritis, as the global population age in united states. This topic has been
chosen for discussion because population ages are increasing and osteoarthritis negatively impact
onto their daily activities and social life. So, this discussion will be focusing on the anatomy and the
pathophysiology and treatment of osteoarthritis and also how it will impact onto their daily life.
This discussion will further highlight on how to assist patient with the degenerative disorder; to
achieve the maximum level of independency with education and preventive measure, as it is
essential with the pharmacological, non pharmacological and surgical treatment.
Definition of degenerative disease
Osteoarthritis is a progressive disease of the joint, representing failed repair of the joint damage that
resulted from intra articular stresses. Intra articular stresses maybe initiated by abnormalities in
articular cartilage, sub chondral bone, ligaments, menisci, peri articular muscles, peripheral nervous
and synovium. Ultimately, this result in the break down in the cartilage and bone, leads to the
symptoms of pain, stiffness, crepitus and functional disability. As a disease, it is

Title
Defeat is a state of mind, no one is ever defeated until defeat has been accepted as a reality. said
the famous fighter Bruce Lee. His quote explains how defeat is not accepted easily, like how
santiago from The Old Man and The Sea is persistent and does not accept defeat. In The Old Man
and The Sea by Ernest Hemingway, the character santiago is a hardworking and old fisherman
who is having bad luck catching fish lately. Santiago decides to head out to sea on a 3 day

Throughout the book on his 85 day journey, Santiago continues through the ocean to catch a fish
he has caught. But man is not made for defeat he said man can be destroyed but not defeated
(pg.103). This quote is very powerful and meaningful, this is because santiago is going through a
hard time out in the sea, he is hungry and in pain through the book and wishes for help along his
journey. However, even though all these hardships weigh santiago down, he continues to fight and
he continues to remain strong mentally so he is able to catch this fish. So as we reread the quote, it
states that a man can be destroyed but not defeat, just as Santiago was. Even though he was
struggling to get by through the ocean, he continued to fight because even though he was destroyed
because of the pain he had, the little strength he had and the hunger he endured, he was not
defeated, because his will to catch the fish remained strong. As Santiago s journey continues
through the book, he preservers and refuses to defeat. Despite the pain and hunger he endured, his
ambition drives him onward and with his faith, he continues on with his

Fire Safety Research Paper
Safety is a priority in the fire service. We must keep our personnel safe in order for them to
provide affective service to the citizens. Our actions, our training, and the equipment that we use,
all play a significant role in our overall safety. I have identified three items that will improve safety
for our crews, floatation devices, lighted traffic cones, and personal escape canisters.
First, floatation devices, life jackets, will protect our crews in water rescue attempts. It is our
policy that we do not enter moving water; however, recent training does allow us to enter standing
water and attempt rescues from the shore. In either of these scenarios, drowning is the ultimate
safety hazard. We have measures that we take to prevent us from falling into the water such as
tying off with a tag line and using a sounding device when we enter standing water. Be that as it
may, the danger of drowning is still a reality. By putting four floatation devices on every
apparatus, we can potentially save the life of a rescuer. The addition of floatation devices is a low
cost, high value addition to improve safety.
Second, Lighted traffic cones are a cost effective way to increase the safety of personnel while
operating at night. We currently have... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Importance Of The Hardest Working Students In College
The issue that I am prevailing is that college students are some of the hardest working people in
todays society, we are dedicated to achieve our goals to have a great future ahead of us. When a
student says there are busy, that most likely means that they do indeed have a good amount of
school work to do. One of the articles that helps support my argument is Researchers have
worked out which majors work the hardest in college (The Tab). The hardest working major
according to this article is architecture, working and studying 22 hours a week outside of the
classroom. The second is the engineering major, while architect work 22 hours a week this major
puts in about 20 hours a week out of class. These majors all definitely include required studying,
writing, reading, doing home work or lab work. These majors have been decided through a national
survey taken by students. For this certain issue I feel that I am considered a centrist on the political
spectrum. I feel like I am centrist because I have times that I have a lot of work one week but
another I have more free time to do with my free time. Most of my friends feel like they are in
the center, between a busy schedule and then a more free schedule. Although my family is more
far right in the political spectrum because they know we have a lot going on and do not want to
feel to intervene in their studying. When I read the text from the article I picked out from The Tab

This move suited Napoleon well. From a very young age, he had a fondness in the art of war. This

Puritan Citizen In The Scarlet Letter By Nathaniel Hawthorne
Throughout the novel The Scarlet Letter, Nathaniel Hawthorne develops compelling characters that
are starkly different from the normal Puritan citizen. The novel mainly focuses on Hester, a Puritan
woman living in New England, and the story of her affair and how it affects her life and the lives
of those around her. Puritan citizens are illustrated as stern, dreary characters, but Hawthorne brings
up sin, love, and hate even in the characters who are seemingly the most rigid when it comes to
Puritan lifestyle. Chillingworth, Hester, and Pearl of the novel The Scarlet Letterby Nathaniel
Hawthornedisplay complex charactertraits, including admiration, honesty, and loneliness. Hester s
daughter, Pearl, has distinct characteristics that make her a major character in this novel. In the text,
Hawthorne reveals that Pearl feels isolated from society, and has to go through any struggles in her
life alone. The singularity lay in the hostile feelings with which the child regarded... Show more

Although Hester deeply betrayed Chillingworth with her affair, he still admires her and the love he
felt for her in the past still lingers with him. Thou hadst great elements. Peradventure, hadst thou
met earlier with a better love than mine, this evil had not been. I pity thee, for the good that has
been wasted in thy nature! (Hawthorne 157). Chillingworth admires Hester for her great qualities.
He says that she could have met a better man and lived a better life if this sin and evil had not
taken place and can see that her good qualities were wasted when she married him. As a result,
Chillingworth empathizes with her because the attributes he loved about her have transformed due
to her punishment physically and mentally. Chillingworth still loves and admires Hester s good
qualities, but understands why she fell in love with another

Women and Fiction in The Yellow Wallpaper
Women and Fiction in The Yellow Wallpaper Charlotte Perkins Gilman s The Yellow Wallpaper
is a deceptively simple story. It is easy to follow the thirteen pages of narrative and conclude the
protagonist as insane. This is a fair judgement, after all no healthy minded individual becomes so
caught up with hideous and infuriating wallpaper to lose sleep over it, much less lock herself in
a room to tear the wallpaper down. To be able to imagine such things as broken necks and bulbous
eyes in the wallpaper is understandable, irrational and erratic designs can form rational patterns in

Social Bond Theory
Through the evolution of social bonds, individuals have always been under scrutiny to abide by a
list of rules in order to be successful in their community. This ideology is made evident in the
book, The Code of the Street, by Elijah Anderson. Anderson dissects and exposes the various
issues dealing with families in urban minority communities. These families are labeled as street and
decent . The connotation of the term code of the street is a set of accepted and understood set of
rules in which street and decent families abide by in order to function in modern day street society.
These regulatory rules are known as a code because this term is not blatantly stated, but mutually
understood by those living in these disadvantaged communities.... Show more content on

Aker s social learning theory is evident in Anderson s research in Code of the Street. Aker explains
that the social learning theory attributes learning criminal behavior through the engagement of
peers. This theory can be practical in understanding the code of the streets of minorities in urban
communities. Modern society has put a label on crime in that it is inappropriate and that people
should not participate in it. However, those in disadvantaged communities who abide by the code of
the street allow the denotation of crime to change in their attempts to survive in such conditions.
Anderson states, Children growing up in these circumstances learn early in life that this [criminal

communities that portray the code of the street in terms of crime in the eyes of the

Abstract Since one s health is a factor considered, data coming from Twitter, one of the most
popular social media platforms often used by millions of people, is beneficial for predictions of
certain diseases. The researchers created a system that will improve the precision rate of the current

Twitter provides free APIs from which a sampled view can be easily obtained. It helps build a
map spread model. In line with this, the researchers came up with an idea of working on a research
using these Twitter data, focusing on the so called tweets regarding diseases and health,
specifically, the flu or influenza.
Furthermore, previous studies were made regarding this topic. In 2008, there was a website
called Google Flu Trends that took data from Google, Facebook, and Twitter itself [2]. It was
widely used in its release, but it was proven to have inconsistencies with regards to its data [2].
Back in 2011 2013, Google Flu Trends overestimated the number of people who had flu by 50%
[3]. One possible cause was its inclusion of data which contained the word flu or influenza ,
wherein the person who tweeted or posted about it did not have the flu at all [3].
There was also a study that made a precision of 0.78 or 78% using the NaГЇve Bayes Classification
algorithm to identify tweets that mention flu or flu like symptoms [4]. As mentioned earlier,
previous researchers had difficulty classifying these tweets as some data gathered got accepted even
though the person did not have it.
According to the Department of Health of the Philippines [5], getting flu is possible by contacting
items that are contaminated through the discharges of an infected

Role Of Propaganda In Animal Farm
Propaganda is some sort of information, especially of a biased or misleading nature used to
promote a political cause or point of view (definition from Oxford Dictionary). In other words,
Propaganda is a false statement which is spread to help or harm a person or a group of people.
Usually, It is just a convenient lie to cover up something inferior. Propaganda is definitely
something that is used a lot in the novel Animal farm by George Orwell. However, how exactly is it
used to control the animalson the farm?

Whenever an animal tries to defend Snowball, it is Squealer who explains why Snowball is

Cowshed, I believe the time will come when we shall find that Snowball s part in it was much
exaggerated.....Surely, comrades, you do not want Jones back?
In conclusion, In the novel Animal farm , Propaganda is always used to control the animals on

On Earthquakes Essay
On Earthquakes
An earthquake is a shaking or trembling of the crust of the earth caused by underground volcanic
action or by the breaking and shifting of rock beneath the surface. The volcanic action and
shifting rocks create strain which continues to build to a sudden release of pressure resulting in a
shock wave. The vibrations produced in the crust can vary from barely noticeable to enormously
destructive. Shock waves can be classified into two broad categories. Waves that send particles
oscillating back and forth in the same direction as the waves are traveling are called primary.
Primary waves, sometimes called compressional waves, travel through the earth beneath the crust.

The modern seismograph was invented early this century by a Russian seismologist, Prince Boris
Golitzyn. This device made possible the modern era of earthquake research.
Although earthquakes have occurred and affected mankind for as long as humans have been
around, historical records are either lacking or considered unreliable before the middle of the
18th century. However, some records do exist and date major earthquake events back to 425 BC
when one occurred off the coast of Greece resulting in an island named Euboea. Another occurred
in Asia Minor about AD 17 and another leveled much of the Roman city of Pompeii in AD 63.
During the Middle Ages, severe earthquakes struck England, in 1318; Naples, Italy, in 1456; and
Lisbon, Portugal, in 1531.
Casualties from major earthquakes have resulted in the greatest disasters in history. The worst
occurred in 1556 in the Shannxi (Shensi) Province in China and killed an estimated 800,000
people. During the 18th century, the Japanese city of Edo (site of modern day Tokyo) was struck
and killed 200,000. Earthquakes in Sicily in 1693 and Lisbon in 1755 each killed about 60,000
people. In 1797, approximately 40,000 died when Quito, Ecuador was struck.
Historically, the most powerful earthquakes to strike North America occurred in 1811 and 1812 in
southeastern Missouri. However, the most famous earthquake to strike in North America

How Did Lennon Fight In Vietnam
Vietnam War John Lennon
The Vietnam War happened between November 1955 to April 1975. The conflict was between
North and South Vietnam. A leader named Ho Chi Minh and other North Vietnamese citizens
wished to overthrow the French colonialists and he wanted to create a full communist regime
similar to the Soviet Union and China. America decided to aid France because the U.S. government
hypothesized that if Vietnam became communist, the rest of Asia would also. This was called the

help. In 1954, the country was divided into communist North Vietnam and anti communist South

not the only ones that were against the war, it seemed like a general consensus to everyone. The
logic being that the United States had no acceptable reason to be involved, the conflict should just
be between North Vietnam and South Vietnam only. Protests did begin small, with peace activist
and liberal college students. But gained massive support in the next 3 years as more and more men
got wounded and killed during battle. President Richard Nixon and his board attempted to deport
Lennon when he ridiculed the Vietnam War and the government. It was unsuccessful and Lennon

New Atkins Diet Research Paper
The New Atkins Diet The New Atkins Diet is based solely on the idea of having a low
carbohydrate diet will make you lose weight. Dr. Atkins, who is a well known cardiologist,
decided to limit his patients intake of sugar and carbohydrates when this concluded it showed
great success with weight loss as well as his patients being able to keep the weight they lost off
(reduce). The New Atkins Diet is also based of the idea that everyones body can use energy in
two ways, either by the use of sugar or by the use of fat. This helps the individual lose weight
because the body uses fat issues as fuel instead of carbohydrates as feul which, overtime, results in
loss of fat tissue. Atkins is also based off science. When a person consumes carbohydrates... Show

It allows the person to eat food that normally are not allowed when on a typical diet (I.E bacon,

diet. Atkins also provides products that follow the diet like snack bars, candy, premade meals,
snacks, and recipes to help the person still give into their cravings without the guilt and negative
impact on the body. I believe that over time, like with any fad diet, a person might get bored of
eating foods that are low carbohydrate and then start to struggle with that. I also think this diet
may be hard to follow if the person is unable to cook for themselves or are in a tough situation
financially. Atkins requires a lot of cooking and if the person can not cook for themselves it s
more costly so if someone does not have these resources like a college student it may be harder to
maintain. The biggest issue I have found with this fad diet is accessibility. It is very hard to go to
a restaurant and get someone that is low in carbohydrates without making a big deal about the
situation. When given the proper tools I do believe the Atkins diet is

Motor Vehicle Safety
Motor accidents are one of the leading causes of unintentional injuries in the United States. In the
year 2000 the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimated that around
41,000 people were killed in traffic accidents within the United States. This mortality rate has
since dropped 25% from 2000 to 2009 (Rockett et al., 2012). There are many reasons for motor
vehicle injuries, ranging from lack of seat belt use, elderly drivers, alcohol and young children
being improperly secured. All of these things factor into motor injuries differently and must be
addressed as a separate problem. Highway safety is an important issue in public health and many

on the offender, and not blaming the alcohol companies. Alcohol related highway fatalities in 1982
were at 57% of all fatalities. This number dropped to only 38% by 1999.

Simply restraining the child with a seatbelt though is not enough. For children under the age of 5,
child safety seats are far more effective then seat belts at preventing injuries in a crash. Until the

Television As Teacher Neil Postman Analysis
Going just one day without being exposed to any form of media is nearly impossible. Through
film, television shows, music, advertisements, news programs, newspapers, and magazines, we
are exposed to media daily. The role that media plays in the way that individuals think is
important. Media affects the way many individuals view circumstances, events, and people. The
portrayal of women in media affects the way that individuals view women. There are many
television shows that are geared towards women. Shows such as Keeping Up With The

In the majority of video games where women are present, many of them tend to have the same
complexion as a Hispanic/Latino woman and they are wearing a minimal amount of clothing.
These video games are played mostly by young teenage boys. They are being exposed to this
kind of depiction of a Hispanic/Latino woman and while banning videogames altogether is not
the answer, depicting woman differently could be an answer. According to J.R. Macnamara in
his book Media and Male Identity: The Making and Remaking of Men, he says that from the
beginning of the twentieth century, sex and sexuality have been identified as fundamental
elements of identity (6), and when Hispanic/Latino women are highly sexualized in media, some
men view Hispanic/Latino women in their everyday lives as easy and desiring sex. Media s
portrayal of sex is usually fun, without consequences, with any girl a man wishes to engage in the
act with. Because women are usually portrayed as a sex object for men, some young men have
developed the mindset that women are just that, a sexual object to give men pleasure. The less
clothing and more promiscuous and flirtation a woman is on television, for example, is portrayed,
the easier of a target they seem to the man watching and this can manifest into their real life
thoughts and actions. Many of these racy roles are played by Hispanic/Latino women. Rachel Bell,

  • 2. President Harry S. Truman Kelsey Stafford 4th Mr. Sandel May 17, 2015 Presidential Research Paper President Harry S. Truman wasn t only just a president, he was a US army soldier, a democratic senator, presiding judge, and a vice president. Before his presidency, he fought in World War 1. Recapping his roles before the presidency, once the war ended, Truman got discharged from the army and then went to attend Kansas City school of law. This is when he was on the road to becoming president. In 1933 Franklin d Roosevelt was elected 32nd president. Harry S. got elected presiding judge of the Jackson County Court and then was sworn in. He served two four year terms through 1934 as a judge. During this time Harry Truman became a U.S. senator by 1935. On August 31, 1944 Truman commences his vice presidential campaign from where he was born Lamar, Missouri. Shortly afterwards, Truman was elected vice president on November 7 of the same year. Following the death of Franklin D. Roosevelt, Harry Truman was sworn in as thirty third president of the United States of America on April 12, 1945. A day after Germany surrendered to the Allies, Truman called for the end of the war in Europe; this is known as V E Day, aka Victory in Europe Day. This is now a public holiday celebrated on May 8th 1945. World War II (1939 19455) had been going on before Truman got into office as president. Although he wasn t in office when it started, he had been in office when it ended. August 6, 1945 was the day Truman called for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. LDCT Screening According to recent studies at Indiana Universty School of Medicine, alternative methods for detecting non small cell lung cancer are emerging. The current methods of detecting NSCLC may be effective, but they are also very expensive. One method called a low dose computed tomography (LDCT) has been successful in identifying malignant tumors. However, routine LDCT screenings would result in 1.3 to 2 billion dollars nationally in health care costs annually. Deig, Mendonca, and Lautenschlaeger suggest that pursuing other methods of screening for NSCLC would significantly decrease this cost. If screenings could be conducted in a cost efficient and effective manner, then the expensive LDCT procedure would only have to be conducted for patients who... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Biomarkers are natural indicators in the body that respond noticeably to the presence of disease. By measuring the responses of biomarkers, oncologists detect the cancerous cells before recommending expensive procedures, rather than immediately resorting to these procedures. One of these biomarkers that responds to the presence of cancerous cells is microRNA. MicroRNAs are molecules that are involved in the cell life cycle and therefore the progression of cancerous cells. A study in cancerpatients was conducted to compare the accuracy of screening with microRNAs to screening with LDCT. Observing microRNAs did not prove to be as accurate at identifying cancer as LDCT, but since using microRNAs is a less expensive process, it can identify patients that should undergo LCDT testing. Screening with microRNA testing initially would decrease the number of patients paying for LCDT testing. Another biomarker that can be observed in response to cancer is ct DNA. Ct DNA refers to fragments of DNA from tumors found circulating in the blood stream. A recent study indicated that observing ct DNA could have multiple useful applications for oncologists. Ct DNA analysis during treatment could serve as an indication of how tumors react to treatment methods and whether recurrence is likely. Detecting ct DNA in the bloodstream could even serve as an early sign of cancer, observable before imaging tests even show tumors. However, ct DNA analysis has not yet proved to be a replacement for LDCT ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Winston Churchill To survive in Russia s ice cream industry during the 11 years since the collapse of the former Soviet Union was no small feat (see Exhibits 1 and 2). To be successful in these turbulent times was nothing short of amazing to industry observers. In 2002, Ice Fili, a midsized Russian company with more than $25 million in sales, was Russia s top ice cream producer. According to an industry trade association representative, Millions of foreigners, after arriving in Moscow and tasting our ice cream, have proclaimed Russian ice cream to be the best in the world. 7 In the selling of ice cream, many products competed for the consumer dollar, including beer (Baltica and dozens of other domestic brands), soda (primarily Pepsi and Coke), yogurts, chocolate (Mars, NestlГ©, and numerous domestic players such as Red October), and other confectionary candies. The producers of these products often spent considerably more on advertising than ice cream producers.8 In 2001, ice cream producers spent less than $5 million on advertising in Russia (1% of sales), while the $4.5 billion Russian beer market spent approximately $90 million (2% of sales) and the soft drink industry spent almost $200 million (7% of sales) on advertising.9 The beer, soft drink, and confectionary industries enjoyed increasing market demand rather than the depressed trend found in the Russian ice cream industry. • 12. Reverend Hale Changes In The Crucible In The Crucible, there are many complex characters who shift throughout the play. Reverend Hale was one of the most complex of these characters. Hale s changes were a direct result of the trials. Because of this Hale s changes can be traced through his actions and motivations. Throughout the play, Reverend Hale was changed by his faith, his knowledge of the truth, and by his guilt. From the beginning of the play, it was quite clear that Reverend Hale s character was deeply rooted in his faith and understanding. Hale firmly believes that everything in life can be explained by books. This becomes evident when he is prompted about the weight of his books. He responds, They are weighted with authority (Miller, Act I). Hale believes that the truth... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, Hale went down to the jail in order to convince the accused to confess to witchcraft. To confess to witchcraft would be to lie, which was a damnable sin. Hale at this point believed that life was more important than dying for pride. This is extremely different from his faith in the first act, which was unwavering. He valued life over faith, something he never would have considered before. Hale also allowed his guilt to motivate his actions. He says, Why it is all simple. I come to do the Devil s work. I come to counsel Christians to belie themselves. (His sarcasm collapses.) There is blood on my head! Can you not see the blood on my head! (Miller, Act IV). His guilt consumed him and caused him to abandon his beliefs. Reverend Hale was a complex character whose changes could be observed through his actions and motivations. Hale shifted from being a devote Puritan to abandoning his faith entirely. He went from fully believing in the trials to damning them and becoming consumed by guilt because of them. Hale s complexity adds to the play by showing how intense the trials were and how even the most devote were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A lack of explicit team norms will impact communication and production efforts. This paper will discuss four operating norms, concerns with a lack of norms, actions to overcome those concerns and norm recommendations for Team Johnny Bravo. Norms You have to learn the rules of the game. And then you have to play better than anyone else. Unknown According to Mocha (2007), working anywhere and everywhere is a concept of globalization. Although work is pushing around the world, remote team members need to exhibit a common and acceptable set of behaviors referred to as norms. In his research Settle Murphy (2012), found that established norms within successful virtual teams, dictated how the group functioned. It is important to note, norms and rules are not one in the same, but they work together to form a team s identity. an important function of a successful team. Often, the earlier these norms can be established, the better. While rules play a part in establishing norms, norms can also be unspoken where rules are not. Hamlet is believed to be the most dramatic play in history, and comes with many personal conflicts that people still today will struggle with. In Hamlet , the main character, Hamlet goes through the 5 stages of griefthroughout the story. Depression; 5. Acceptance. People who are grieving do not necessarily go through the stages in the same order or experience all of them. • 20. William Shakespeare s The Winter s Tale Shakespeare s The Winter s Tale can be viewed as a tragicomedy that draws upon elements of As You Like It and Othello. Similar themes of trust, love, treachery, infidelity and tyranny are found throughout all three plays. While The Winter s Tale and As You Like It share similar happy endings, Othello shares more concepts with The Winter s Tale, but ends with a much more tragic ending. Both Leontes and Othellohave severe trust issues and accuse their wives of having affairs. In these plays, both kings end up being incorrect and therefore produce really dramatic story lines. In Othello, Iagoplants the seed of jealousy in Othello s mind, as opposed to in The Winter s Tale, in which Leontes s own paranoia feeds this idea in his mind to the point where he orders his wife and baby to be sent away. As You Like It is a play which encompasses themes of love and issues of brotherhood and violation of primogeniture. The conflicts raised at the beginning of the play are resolved at the end of the play just like in The Winter s Tale. Act V of The Winter s Tale draws elements from the other plays when the truth is finally revealed about the innocent wives and when there is a happy ending in the plays other than Othello. • 22. Diodorus Essay Shelley s friend the banker Horace Smith stayed with the poet and his wife Mary (author of Frankenstein) in the Christmas season of 1817. One evening, they began to discuss recent discoveries in the Near East. In the wake of Napoleon s conquest of Egypt in 1798, the archeological treasures found there stimulated the European imagination. The power of pharaonic Egypt had seemed eternal, but now this once great empire was (and had long been) in ruins, a feeble shadow. Shelley and Smith remembered the Roman era historian Diodorus Siculus, who described a statue of Ozymandias, more commonly known as Rameses II (possibly the pharaoh referred to in the Book of Exodus). Diodorus reports the inscription on the statue, which he claims was the largest in Egypt, as follows: King of Kings Ozymandias am I. If any want to know how great I am and where I lie, let him outdo me in my work. (The statue and its inscription do not survive, and were not seen by Shelley; his inspiration for Ozymandias was verbal rather than visual.) Stimulated by their conversation, Smith and Shelley wrote sonnets based on the passage in Diodorus. Smith produced a now forgotten poem with the unfortunate title On a Stupendous Leg of Granite, Discovered Standing by Itself in the Deserts of Egypt, with the Inscription Inserted Below. ... It all started when Paris, the prince of the magnificent city of Troy, abducted a woman after making a deal with the goddess of love, Aphrodite. There are many variations on how the war began and the battles that took place during it, but one event stayed for certain: The story of the large, wooden horse that lead to the downfall of Troy. Most of the information about this historical event was recorded in Homer s famous works, The Iliadand The Odyssey. The Trojan War was started by a petty feud between three goddesses, fought by brave warriors, and recorded in Homer s Iliad and Odyssey. Conflicts began between the Trojans and the Greeks began long ago when King Peleus, who later on became the father of the Trojan War hero, Achilles , married Thetis, a sea nymph. Their marriage was celebrated by the all of the gods except for the goddess of discord and strife, Eris, who was not included in the celebration, (History.com). Infuriated, Eris threw her gift, a golden apple who was to be gifted to the fairest, amongst the guest. This wedding lead to the Trojan War because of the feud between the three goddesses, Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite, that occurred next. While communism was a growing influence in these nations, it was still considered one of many nationalist movements, rather than the driving force. Our actions, our training, and the equipment that we use, all play a significant role in our overall safety. I have identified three items that will improve safety for our crews, floatation devices, lighted traffic cones, and personal escape canisters. First, floatation devices, life jackets, will protect our crews in water rescue attempts. It is our policy that we do not enter moving water; however, recent training does allow us to enter standing water and attempt rescues from the shore. In either of these scenarios, drowning is the ultimate safety hazard. We have measures that we take to prevent us from falling into the water such as tying off with a tag line and using a sounding device when we enter standing water. The Importance Of The Hardest Working Students In College The issue that I am prevailing is that college students are some of the hardest working people in todays society, we are dedicated to achieve our goals to have a great future ahead of us. When a student says there are busy, that most likely means that they do indeed have a good amount of school work to do. One of the articles that helps support my argument is Researchers have worked out which majors work the hardest in college (The Tab). The hardest working major according to this article is architecture, working and studying 22 hours a week outside of the classroom. The second is the engineering major, while architect work 22 hours a week this major puts in about 20 hours a week out of class. These majors all definitely include required studying, writing, reading, doing home work or lab work. These majors have been decided through a national survey taken by students. For this certain issue I feel that I am considered a centrist on the political spectrum.
