National Treasure
National Treasure Ten days after the election of 2004, a movie came out that was a nationwide
sensation: National Treasure. This movie is full of historical references that watchers could easily
deliver back without knowing that they could conjure up that information. National Treasure was a
hit nationwide because it took a subject that few people knew about and turned it into an action
packed historical thriller. While National Treasurewas created as a response to the lack of interest

In any person s life, they subconsciously retain information every day because it is new and can
be useful to them later on. While watching a movie, and depending on the genre of the film, many
areas in the brain become more active than others do (Holland). Whether or not a person likes the
film, their brain subconsciously reacts to the showing of the movie and preserves information. This

The Middle Child, By Violet, Klaus And Sunny Baudelaire
Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire are the ages of fourteen, twelve, and an infant of an
unspecified age. They each have their own specific things they enjoy and are gifted in. Violet
loves inventing things and she s always thinking of some creative invention. The middle child,
Klaus, is very intellectual and loves books. Sunny, being very small, loves to bite things with her
tiny sharp teeth. Their very rich parents die in a fire that burns down their house. Mr. Poe, a
banker who is friends with the children s late parents takes the children to live with him
temporarily. In the parents will, Violet is legally bound to receive their large fortune when she s of
age. The late Mr. and Mrs. Baudelaire also stated that the children... Show more content on

Violet Baudelaire is fourteen and in what Piaget would call the formal operational stage meaning
she thinks abstractly and has gained mature moral reasoning. She most definitely excels at abstract
thinking, as Violet creates many useful inventions throughout the book and has no problem getting
past functional fixedness. In order to attempt to save Sunny she creates the grappling hook, which
would have inevitably worked if she didn t get caught by a henchman. Klaus Baudelaire is twelve
years of age and, like his older sister, is also in the formal operational stage. He acts much older
than his age, as he has good morals and abstract thinking. Klaus is the one who realizes that if
Violet participates in Count Olaf s play, then she will be legally wed to him. As well as thinking,
he has gained morals and fights along side Violet to counteract Count Olaf and his unjust rules and
horrible acts he commits towards the children, especially the youngest Sunny. Sunny is only listed
as in infant in the book, but she is clearly in the sensorimotor stage. Her world consists of
experiences via her senses and actions. One of her main characteristics that was brought up in the
book was how much she enjoys biting things and people. This places her in the oral psychosexual
stage, meaning she gains pleasure through biting things, like most little kids do. She doesn t show
many signs of previous attachment to her parents considering it

Acetic Acid Concentration Lab Report
In this experiment, the concentration of acetic acid in a sample of vinegar was calculated. The
sample used for the experiment was sample 4, created on 2/22/2017. The concentration was
calculated by titrating the vinegar with NaOH. Unfortunately, NaOH does not form a pure
solution so its concentration also had to be calculated. This was done by using it to titrate a
solution of KHP, which does form a pure solution. Once the concentration of NaOH was known, it
could be used to calculate the mols of acetic acidin a known volume of vinegar, giving us the
concentration.
This will result in the calculated mass of acetic acid to be higher. This is because it appears that
additional NaOH was required to titrate the solution, and the mols ... Show more content on

This was done by titrating the vinegar with a base that had a calculated concentration. The final
average concentration after three trials was 0.5285% by mass. All of the measurements used were
taken to four significant figures. One potential source of error is the use of an indicator and
titration. In order to induce a change in the color of the solution, it must become slightly basic, this
means that more NaOH was added than was actually required to neutralize the acetic acid. This
error would indicate that the concentration of acetic acid was slightly higher than it really is;
unfortunately, it is unavoidable with the current experiment setup. Another problem with the
titration process is that the base can only be added in drops, limiting the precision even more.
Aside from these limitations it appears that the process yielded fairly accurate results, with only a
5.706% error when compared to the industry

When they are captured or killed they are sold to restaurants to be cooked and considered exotic

so the foxes will not come and eat them. While Marsh was doing his job keeping the foxes away,
he heard a dog barking. He had realized it was a sheepdog barking at the foxes. So one day
Marsh got a sheepdog and named him Ben. Ben did a great job protecting the chickens and when
Marsh heard the news of the penguins he suggested using sheepdogs to patrol and guard the
penguins. In 2006 the first sheepdog was put to the test, when the puppy patrol started up the
population rebounded to around 150. Ever since the first sheepdog came no fox has touched one of
those foxes.

Valentine and Blood Brothers. The play Our Day Outwas originally written for television and was

accreditation that a facility can choose from. There is Traditional Long Term Care Accreditation.
There is also Medicare/Medicaid certification based accreditation. A facility can choose from
either of the two options. There are also fees that facilities need to consider when looking to be
accredited by the Joint Commission. The on site fee for a nursing home choosing traditional
accreditation with an average daily census of 100 119 is $3,215 and the annual fee is $2,170. A

Critique the Moral Aspects of Leadership
Introduction
This paper is about the lack of moral and ethical leadership of Tyco International s former highest
paid chief executive officer (CEO) Dennis Kozlowski (Kaplan, 2009). Tyco International is a
business leader in Global Fire Safety and Security Solutions. Tyco s United States headquarters is in
Princeton, New Jersey and the Corporate Headquarters in Schaffhausen, Switzerland. According to
Kaplan (2009), Dennis Kozlowski reigned over a decade as an ambitious CEO who had earned the
nickname Deal a Day Dennis based on his notorious business decisions including aggressive and
speedy acquisitions. Kozlowski was a leader determined to make Tyco the greatest company and
succeeded well in transforming it from a $1.5 billion manufacturer into an industrial corporation
worth more than $100 billion (Kaplan, 2009).
Ethical issues
In June 2002, Kozlowski was accused by the Manhattan district attorney Robert Morgenthau, of
evading $1 million in sales tax on the purchase of rare artwork (Timeline of the Tyco International
scandal, 2005). This investigation opened a can of worms indicting Kozlowski and Tyco s
former chief financial officer (CFO) Mark H. Swartz of looting millions of dollars from the
company, misconstruing financial records and doctoring business records (Brickey, 2008). In
September 2002, Kozlowski and Swartz were accused of stealing more than $170 million dollars
from Tyco and swindling $430 million in the sale

Who I Am As An Individual
This paper discusses who I am as an individual, through gender, culture, my worldviews and the
difference between me and other people, why Social Work interests me and what fit and proper
means through the Social Workers Registration Board. The word culture can mean many things
to different people over the world, most of us are who we are today because of the different
cultures we have been exposed to over the years through, friends, family and community to name
a few. A brief definition of the word culture means the total of the inherited ideas, beliefs, values,
and knowledge, which constitute the shared bases of social action (Culture, 2012). Many of us
would share a belief and/or view on situations based on our culture and what we have been
exposed to. For example, I discovered some of my culture, values and idea through family, but
because I left home at a young age of sixteen, I then learnt different cultures, ideas, beliefs,
through friends, community, work and study. As I became older my culture slowly changed as I
married, changed country and had a family of my own. Therefore, my culture experiences kept
changing with me, for example, my study culture , turned into primary school and kindy . Now I
am a mother I try and instil some of that into my children as well as allowing them to create their
own beliefs and values through their own culture, like school and recreational activities. I believe I

Cognitive psychology is the study of the brains internal processes that guide behaviour; to study
cognition, psychologists examine case studies of patients with damaged brains that can infer areas,
and functions involved in particular processes. Patient studies have provided insights into the
processes that take place within our minds, and have enabled psychologists to create models, which
can be tested and fractionated. Cognitive neuropsychology has developed from cognitive
psychologyto become a discipline in its own right; it investigates the function and structures of the
brain involved in cognitive processes and should not be confused with cognitive neuroscience,

Studying unseen processes presents difficulties, it would not be practical or ethical to open a
persons head to try to unravel the processes that take place whilst they make a cup of tea or drive
their car to work. Although examining processes presents difficulties, studying patients who have
sustained brain damage can provide insights into parts that play a role in cognitive processes.
Findings from case studies are extrapolated to the general population to provide an insight into
normal cognition. An early example and often cited case study is Phineas Gage who suffered
damage to his frontal lobe because of an accident in 1848; prior to the accident, he was friendly
and dependable, however after the accident, he became unreliable and his social skills suffered,
this suggests the frontal lobe is involved in planning and social skills. Damasio (1994, (cited in
Jansari, 2010)) recreated damage sustained by Gage, after a patient exhibited the same changes in
behaviour after undergoing surgery to remove a tumour in the frontal lobe. The recreation
confirmed the suggestions made at the time of Phineas Gage, thus providing an insight into how a
part of the brain the frontal lobe in this case is involved in cognitive functioning. The study of
Phineas Gage is an early example of the kind of studies that are used in

The Effects Of Bpa On The World
Health is a re ensuring concern in today s world as technology has changed the way of life for
many. Bisphenol A, also known as BPA, is a chemical used to make polycarbonate plastic and
epoxy resins (MNT, 2014). The key factor for ideal health is a suitable diet and the plastics and
epoxy resins made from BPA are used to make a variety of consumer products many being food
containers, baby products, water bottles, canned foods, and pop cans (Walters, 2011). BPA has
allowed engineers to expand their scientific knowledge as this chemical has unique characteristics
that offer high performance benefits in a wide range of consumer and industrial applications.
However, though there are some advantages of BPA, the disadvantages are more... Show more

Not only did science contribute towards the understanding of BPA, but it presented various
benefits on top of that. Firstly, BPA has economic implications as it is cheap and can be easily
manufactured. Many alternatives are beginning to arise such as thermal paper for different
types of printing that use BPA and glass and stainless steel that are being widely used in different
consumer products, but BPA is cheaper and more efficient as products like plastic water bottles
only cost about $4.99 while BPA Free water bottles cost $14.99 $20.00 (BeCause Water Benefit
Corp, 2014). On a larger scale, such as industrial, business, medical, and safety equipment
products, will produce the same trend as small scale products, as BPA responds to government
regulations while still upholding consumer preference. This way the government is be able to
save a lot of money while still producing high volumes of different products. Secondly, using BPA
has social benefits as Polycarbonate Plastic, is durable, lightweight, shatter resistant, and heat
resistant and provides a clear view of food in containers which helps to keep the food fresh. By
protecting the food from spoiling, cans with Epoxy Resin lining is able to keep food fresh and
have a shelf life for almost two years. This is necessary for feeding large numbers of people that

The Effects Of Intrinsic And Extrinsic Motivation And...
Intrinsic or Extrinsic Motivation and Student Achievement
Rosa Elena Garza
Texas Tech University
EPSY 5379
Abstract
To examine the effects of rewards on intrinsic motivation for children in special education, a review
of research was conducted. Students who are intrinsically motivated, tend to experience school
success because they select challenging activities and spend more time on the task at hand. It can
be very easy to undermine intrinsic motivation by using rewards. This change in motivation then
results in more errors in the learning process as well as slower acquisition of skills.
Intrinsic or Extrinsic Motivation and Student Achievement
Students with learning disabilities are often extremely unmotivated. To them, school tends to be
one failure after another. This poor student achievement is usually due to an extreme lack of
motivation. In attempts to overcome this lack of motivation, rewards are offered. Many of us
have heard, If only they were more motivated, they would do so much better on test and get better
grades when having conversations about these individuals. The effect that is intended for the
reward is often mistaken and therefore it can have the opposite effect of what was originally
intended. Children who lack intrinsic motivation will get the wrong idea from receiving rewards.
Sometimes when rewards are used, the student will find ways to excel in the task more so then
when the reward is not in place (Amabile and Gitmore, 1984). Students with

Our firm is planning to launch a series of seminars/forums for clients, referral sources and in a
few cases the public. The firm will not charge to attend the series as we view as a way to showcase
our expertise and bring value to our clients and the community.
In particular, I have proposed a forum that focuses on how the tax policies of the presidential
candidates would affect businesses as explained by the firm s tax professionals in objective terms.
In addition, I believe that those in attendance would be interested in your perspective on the
candidates chances of winning during the waning weeks of the campaign.
Unfortunately, I do not have all the specifics for the event at this time. A number of the details
will be determined by your willingness and availability to participate as well as the availability of
the facilities. Below you will see the event details as I envision them.

We are willing to consider other times, however, I feel the forum will be more impactful if

my experiences, morning meetings tend to have higher attendance than those held later in the day.
I look forward to your response. If you prefer to discuss in person, we could meet for coffee or
lunch, but I also want to be respectful of your time. I do respond quickly to email messages.

Mesopotamia Changes
Mesopotamia is one of the oldest places where civilizations blossomed. In Greek, the word
mesopotamia means the land between the rivers (Leick, 2003, p. xii) . Mesopotamia was located
between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers in what is now known as modern day Iraq. This land was
home to many civilizations dating as far back as 10,000 B.C. (Leick, 2003). Each civilization used
the different type of resources available to them between the two rivers. In the beginning,
civilizations relied mostly on hunting and gathering near the Levantine Coast (Leick, 2003).
However, there was a change from hunting and gathering to cultivating and domesticating animals.
According to Van De Mieroop, the transition was not sudden but rather a slow process

My Service Advisors Are Not Actively Selling Preventative...
If your service advisors are not actively selling preventative maintenance on a continuous basis,
they are leaving money on the table that should be easy enough to get. This is especially true if
they know customers from dealing with them in the past and have access to their maintenance
history and repair records. It s a matter of being proactive with your customers and explaining the
real value of staying ahead in the repair and maintenancegame.
Every time a customer comes to your service department for any reason, you have an opportunity
to sell them on preventative maintenance that may not come your way again. Often, customers go
to their service department only when they have repair needs they are not sure of, and go to
secondary repair and maintenance shops for things like oil changes, brake service or tires. This is
usually because they believe these kinds of things to be less expensive in outside shops than they
are at their dealership, which is not necessarily so. But, if no one tells them that how will they
know?
Many people neglect to perform preventive maintenance on their vehicles because they have not
been properly informed of the value it brings to them. The may have little or no knowledge of
such things and may be intimidated about asking. Certainly, this is an important part of the job of
a service advisor. Often, because of the negative light that has been focused in recent years on
abusive up selling practices, a service advisors fails to offer

Personal Philosophy Fatalism
1. What was the most significant learning within the themes presented this week?
The most significant learning within the themes this week is fatalism. It was interesting because
before I read the text I used to think that most things in life are pre determined. fatalism was similar
to my philosophy. I believe everything is pre determined, and mental things are able to be control. I
think we can change the process, but the result would be the same.
2. How has this learning affected your personal philosophy?
It did not affected my personal philosophy because most of things are the same as my belief system.
In my personal philosophy, everything in my life are pre determined. For example, The place I

The Theme Of The Lottery
Judging by Shirley Jackson s title The Lottery I was reading with an expectation to learn of
someone winning a bunch of money, spending someway and learning a lesson. Much to my
dismay the story has no money in it and no one learns any lessons. In Shirley Jackson s The
Lottery a small town holds a lottery to see who will be stoned to death by the whole town
showing the reader how twisted the author is but also slightly showing the reality that in some
places in the world such things to do happen and it is crazy to think it is considered normal by
some. From the start there is an aerie feeling about the whole story. From the beginning to almost
the end the story is almost completely normal . There is no conflict and resolution and no
antagonists or protagonists. The story starts with all of people of this small town gathering... Show

When you say it out loud it sounds crazy. It sounds like a good story and perhaps the premise of a
movie. In reality, however, some places in the world still have sacrificial practices. Certain groups
in India and Africa still sacrifice humans for their beliefs. This really puts a story like this in
perspective. For instance, if this story were to be read to those select individuals in the world
that still sacrifice people for good crops and such things then they would probably think of this
story as dull and uninteresting because nothing is out of the ordinary to them. These sacrificial
beliefs are of course only a part of a few societies of the many all over the world. In my daily life
within the society I live in sacrificing people to have better growing vegetables is frowned upon.
Not too many people support such beliefs. I was taught that killing people is wrong. If you kill

Nature Vs Nurture As A Serial Killer
Historical Background
What causes an individual to become a serial killer? Bio psychologists believe that starting from
birth the human mind is a tabula rasa or blank slate, and the individual learns behaviors and socio
cultural norms from individuals around them. This concept of nature versus nurture was based
upon the idea that it is how you are brought up (nurture) that governs the psychologically significant
aspects of child development and the concept of maturation applies only to the biological. The
theory that explains the nature aspect of the nature versus nurture principle is called the attachment
theory, which views the bond between mother and child as being an innate process that ensures
survival. It is a biological need that has ensured the survival of many species including the human
race; because of the need to protect and be protected humans as a species has been able to endure.
It is also a psychological need to want to be cared for as well as care for others a study done by
Harry Harlow (1950s). The concept of nurture focuses mainly on the effect that the environment has
on the development of human beings and whether it is more important than nature. Several studies
have been generated to try and settle the ongoing debate of nature versus nurture.
Many psychologists agree that nurture play a greater part in the development of a human being.

This Way for the Gas Ladies and Gentlemen
The sullen narrative This Way for the Gas Ladies and Gentlemen poignantly recounts the events
of a typical day in a Nazi concentration camp during World War II. The author, Tadeusz
Borowski, was Polish Holocaust survivor of Auschwitz, the series of death camps responsible for
the deaths of the largest number of European Jews. Recounted from a first person point of view,
the novel unfolds at dawn as the unnamed narrator eats breakfast with a friend and fellow
prisoner, Henri. Henri is a member of Canada, the labor group responsible for unloading the
Jewish transports as they arrive into the camps. They are interrupted by a call for Canada to report
to the loading ramps. Upon the arrival of the transport, the narrator joins Henri in... Show more

This Way for the Gas Ladies and Gentlemen aided my understanding of the Holocaust with its
overarching themes of dehumanization, death, and detachment. Throughout the entire novel
the theme of dehumanization is particularly evident in both the prisoner workers and the
transport prisoners. The Nazi guards are said to have beefy (pg. 41) faces, while an S.S. officer is
described as having a rat like smile as she sniffed around (pg. 41) the ramp. Prisoners are referred to
as standing around like sheep (pg. 48). Starving Greek prisoners are compared to huge human
insects (pg. 35). Even the transport trucks are called mad dogs (pg. 41). Everyone is treated and
processed like livestock. Trucks drive around, loading up lumber, cement, people (pg. 34), is yet
another example of how a human life was lowered to that of a mere object. A corpse is simply a
mound of meat (pg. 45), and dead babies are carried out of the transport like chickens, several in
each hand (pg. 39). The poisonous compound Cyclone B used to kill the prisoners was an effective
killer of lice in clothing and of men in gas chambers (pg. 29). Second is the theme of death. Death
became a currency for the prison workers: work for the Nazis for a second bowl of soup, an extra
blanket, a pair of shoes, a piece of bread, etc... The prisoners literally live off of death. They cannot
afford to be human. All of us live

The Structural Health Monitoring Systems
Abstract Structural health monitoring systems frequently use optimisation algorithms to update or
identify system parameters in structural dynamics. In this study, an implementation of similar
updating techniques is developed for thermal non destructive material inspection using adaptive
response surfaces to approximate experimental parameters (thermal conductivity, convective heat
transfer excitation timing) for updating a finite element model. The use of thermal models results
in high non linearities in parameter influences and parameter updating accuracies, which are
discussed. In this work, adaptive response surface methods are compared using interpolation,
piecewise spline and polynomial regression functions. In this paper, the most widely used
optimisation routines for structural dynamics are compared and validated on a thermal case with
multiple independent parameters. The influence of the choice of optimisation parameters is
discussed and compared between the different optimisation routines. Finally, a well suited data
reduction technique is investigated which transforms the data set to a smaller, focused response
model in each optimisation loop and delivers a proper regression accuracy. It is demonstrated that
the use of interpolating regression delivers more accurate parameter estimations in contrast to
structural dynamic updating where polynomial regression delivers superior results.

The study population for this research is patients for EMS hospitals for observation that provide
different shift patterns. This group will mainly include emergency room physicians, and
emergency patients. Any doctor who is a medical director for an EMS service will be excluded
from the survey to disregard any potential bias(Bowen, 2009).
The importance of identifying the population is to observe the patients in the different EMS
hospitals for observation that provide different problems of patients. The purpose of identifying
the population is to observe that EMS professionals are required to have a good kind of leadership
to take better and effective control of financial matters of EMS organization so that EMS
organization could be able to achieve the mission of handling emergency care(Sandelowski, 1995).
There are different methods involved for identifying the proper population. The best way is to
examine research question and applied on specific population. As in the case of the EMS
professionals are required to have a good kind of leadership to take better and effective control of
financial matters of EMS organization so that EMS organization could be able to achieve the
mission of handling emergency care , the population involves the observation of the EMS specialist
in the hospitals. The purpose is to examine their leadership to get better and effective control of
financial matters.

Mr. Enlightenment is the first person that John meets on his travels. Accordingly, he introduces
John to the philosophy of modern science and rationalism. According to Mr. Enlightenment, modern
science and rational thinking can explain anything. Moreover, he tells John that, the Landlord is an

training. This leaves John with the notion that the landlord is a fake. Soon after, the Spirit of the
Age captures John and holds him prisoner in a cell for many days. While he is imprisoned the Spirit
of the Agee attempts to convince John and the rest of the prisoners, that they are nothing more than
their internals. Nevertheless, a woman named Reason comes and rescues John. She tries to reach
John that to find the truth, reason must be used. Reason explains to John that he is more
knowledgeable than he perceives. It is just a matter of bringing, dark part of your mind into the

without proof and how it is not bad to stay in wonderment. John meets History sometime after his

which is the landlord. Additionally, he proposes that the only way to truly reach the Landlord is

1.Should Cameron have licensed McTaggart or continued to export?
After I read this case, I can say that exporting is more profitable to Cameron because they can do
whatever they want at any time. This means that Cameron can earn the profit that it deserves, and
it will be only to itself. In other words, if Cameron continues exporting, it can maintain its
independence to manage better quality products at its own responsibility. Then, in the other side,

Was McTaggart a good choice for licensee?
Yes, McTaggart was a good choice for license because it will help to make easier implementations.
The reason of this is that McTaggart reduces the financial risk that exporting could involve.
Another point is that as Cameron does not have the resources to capture foreign markets,
McTaggart will do it for less. Finally, Cameron will have patented its process.
As well, it is important to mention that McTaggart has excellent credit score and a reputation of
130 years as a family business that will operate the average factory wage rate for less than in
America. McTaggart will be looking to push sales in United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand and
India, and with its actual clients.
3.Was the royalty rate reasonable? Did Cameron leave money on the table?
The royalty rate was too low and it left money on the table. The reason is that if they would have
decided for a higher rate, McTaggart could earn more benefit of it in the case of receive
equipment and training, as it said in the case that it was needed, and Cameron will receive more
money because of the sales that McTaggart could do. This is because McTaggart is already
positioned and it has the product in demand just for sale, and it will help Cameron to save money

Throughout history women have been the primary caretakers of children. According to
sociologist Parsons, women are natural caregivers and the ones who take care of the kids and
are often more likely to be a single parent than a man (Cite source on this). Therefore this
becomes a problem if women go to prison. With more women going to prison more children are
going to be at loss of a primary caregiver, leading them to seek attention and affection in other
places. Children are already at a disadvantage with one parent in prison, however having a
mother in prison is more disadvantageous (Pollock, 2014, p. 27). According to Pollock, it has

move back to my birth country, Belgium. I had been living in Florida for five years and it was
basically all I had known so I did not know what to expect. I had to live with my mom at first, and
then my sister would join us after she graduated high schooland my father... Show more content on

Every show I watched, every person I talked to, everything I did had to be in French. Learning a
new language is always beneficial in getting better jobs when children are older, traveling and
marketing your work or business globally. As stated in Carey s article Pediatrician David Wood
analyzed interviews with families of 9,915 six to seventeen year olds. Parents revealed how
many times the family had moved and answered questions about their children s growth and
development, their performance at school, and behaviors. It turned out that more than half the
children had moved at least twice some as many as five times but these kids were as well
adjusted, physically and socially, as the 25 percent who d stayed put(12). I had no problems
adjusting to my new school and friends because I was young and involved in school activities. I
was known as the American girl even though I was born in Belgium like the other kids. I was the
new kid, but I do not know why adults always made it seem scary and confusing. I loved being
the new kid because it was so much easier to make new friends. Everyone asked me questions
about Florida and it gave me the opportunity to start a conversation. It is a lot easier to make new
friends when people are used to change and moving around. Children become more outgoing and
open. Kids that move to new schools should be very involved and participate in school activities. I
used to have a jazz dance class after school with all

William B. Willcox s The Age of Aristocracy Essay
William B. Willcox s The Age of Aristocracy
This compact little book is Volume III of a series entitled A History of England, edited by Lacey
Baldwin Smith, and its inclusion in this series reveals much about its scope and intent. Smith
writes in the Preface to the series that their authors have tried by artistry to step beyond the usual
confines of a textbook and conjure up something of the drama of politics, of the wealth of
personalities, and even of the pettiness, as well as the greatness, of human motivation. Some of this
can be found in The Age of Aristocracy; some of it cannot. William B. Willcox s device for
covering the significant people and events of one hundred forty two years in only two hundred
thirty seven pages is to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Willcox does discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the individual monarchs, but for the most
part these kings and queens are spectators; Willcox s real interest is in the politicians, and his
book works best when he manages to draw concise and important connections between such men
as Marlborough, Chesterfield, Walpole, and North, and the social forces that they harnessed to
get their jobs done. Lord Chesterfield, for example, is presented as the epitome of the eighteenth
century Gentleman; his letters of advice to his son Philip provide a standard by which Willcox
introduces the world of manners and form that provide the background for the rest of the book.
What Chesterfield saw was there, says Willcox, the love of form and style and the surface of life
(51). Most of these miniature portraits are very effective: Robert Walpole has an entire chapter
devoted to his era, and he provides a stable center through which to understand the dizzying political
problems of dealing with Hanoverian succession, the creation of British financial empires such as
the Bank of England and the South Sea Company, and the intricate relationships between peace,
foreign diplomacy, and their effect on British business interests. Two different William Pitts are also
well served, and the Younger is particularly interesting when shown to

Mckinsey And Its Secret Influence On American Business Essay
McKinsey consultants suggest that firms need to change with changing industry conditions and
that often firms needs to choose between protecting what they have built versus letting them go to
make room to focus on new business opportunities (McDonald, Duff (September 10, 2013). The
Firm: The Story of McKinsey and its Secret Influence on American Business. Simon Schuster).
McKinsey s further supports this position with their three horizons model that replaces core
businesses in decline with new growth options (McGrath; Ian MacMillan (March 16, 2009).
Discovery Driven Growth: A Breakthrough Process to Reduce Risk and Seize Opportunity. Harvard
Business Review Press. p. 198). At the product level, we see products transitioning through different
stages of their lifecycle. Products move from introduction to growth and maturity stages, eventually
passing into commoditization and ultimately falling into decline. Each stage of the product life
cycle requires differing strategies to achieve successful product commercialization. Rangan and
Bowman make a distinction in that although products are called commodities, it is the relationship
between the product and the market that should be characterized as commoditization. Changing
market dynamics signal a shift towards commoditization. Customer reluctance to pay for product or
service, pressure on price, low customer loyalty, buyer s perception of little differentiation amongst
suppliers, price as the only selection criteria, are some

CHINA: WHERE IT S BEEN AND WHERE IT S GOING 2
Abstract
The purpose of this essay is to show how the economy of China has, and is changing, becoming the
second largest economy in the world today. Although China is currently under the leadership of Xi
Jinping, this essay will concentrate primarily on the actions undertaken by then President Mao
Zedong, followed by then President Deng Xiaoping, (sans mention of Hua Guofeng). Given the
relative infancy of Xi s assumption of power, economic policies still remain largely rhetorical in
form. Likewise, the majority of literature concerning economic policies under Xi are largely
speculative, often citing strategies and ambitions as opposed to thereby, lacking a solid basis for
rational induction In addition to China s lack of transparency, In addition, it will be shown that the
methodology behind the Chinese economy demonstrates the implementation of varying levels of
the characteristics associated with the schools of Realism, Marxism and Liberalism. Thus, China s
approach to global trade in the 21st Century is pluralistic, testamentary to the failed economic

Comparing the Philosophy of Life in Christianity and Chinese Buddhism
Chinese Philosophy not only is the fruit of thinking of the Chinese nation, but also is the important
component part of world culture. In Chinese philosophy, there are three main parts: Confucianism,
Buddhism and Taoism. Among them, ChineseBuddhism, which came from India, experienced a
course of sinicization under the influence of Chinese traditional culture represented mainly by
Confucianism and Taoism , so it keeps the general features of Buddhism ,and also formed its
Chinese characteristics. The changes of Chinese Buddhism from going out of this world to being in
this world and building pure land in this world fully manifested the humanistic spirit ... Show more

In this way , in actual life, there are often conflicts and struggles between goodness and evil in
human nature. So Christianity stresses that human beings should believe in God, and depend on
God s power to ensure tending towards goodness, and entering the paradise after their death.
Buddhism, starting from its basic teaching arising through causation (Pratityasamutpada) , believes
that all things are naturally formed from causes and condition (Hetupratyaya), man is also the
combination from Five Classifications (Pancaskandha), under given conditions and the result of
ignorance (Avidya). As for man is the result of ignorance , it s a bit similar to Christian original sin
. but influenced by Confucius goodness of human nature and Taoist return to nature and true ,
Chinese Buddhism specially emphasizes the inner basis of free from world , and stresses that
human nature, which is naturally pure and enlightened but dirty and befuddled because of being
hoodwinked by desire. Only when man could see mind and enlighten nature by practicing
Buddhism, then he is free from world and become Buddha.
Comparative speaking, both Christianity and Buddhism have the tendency of paying close attention
to what happens

The Pepsi Of Coca Cola
History Coca Cola was founded in 1886 by Dr. John S. Pemberton. After creating flavored syrup,
he took it to his neighborhood pharmacy where it got mixed with carbonated water. Frank M.
Robinson, Dr. Pemberton s partner and bookkeeper, is credited with naming the beverage Coca
Cola. After a couple years, Dr. Pemberton began selling portions of his business. The majority
was sold to Asa G. Candler who decided to expand the product to soda fountains outside of
Atlanta, Georgia. From here, he noticed there was a growing demand for Coca Cola which
brought about the aspiration to make Coca Cola portable. Joseph Biedenharn became the first
person to put Coke in a bottle and sell it. Within five years, the bottles were in large scale

Argumentative Essay On Fan Fiction
Since the internet began, the popularity of social media has grown exponentially. With all of these
new ways to communicate thoughts and ideas, the rise of fan fiction was inevitable. With the
popularity came equally strong opposition from those who prefer traditional storytelling from
published authors. Fan fictionhas a notorious reputation for being unorthodox and
unconventional as well as being a harmful influence on minors. Others would argue the exact
opposite: fan fiction helps minors find their peers while boosting their confidence in their
abilities. One of the results of the ever growing ease in sharing opinions with others is a long
lasting debate as people try to endlessly convince the other side that fan fiction is either authentic
literature or merely the inappropriate fantasies of pre teens. One medium this discussion has
appeared in is the blogging platform tumblr.com, a place where people of all ages can go to meet
people with similar interests and mindsets. Naturally, this can lead to long, heated debates between
users, or open ended posts offering one s thoughts on the issue. One such post is On Fanfiction,
where Tumblr user shadesofmauve claims that as long as a storyhas an emotional effect on its reader
, it is valid literature. Shadesofmauve begins with a brief list of the standard defenses for fanfiction,
acknowledging that the more common arguments are good and valid defenses, but that there
always seems to be something missing. She

Fair Trade Inc. Usa
This case talks about Fair Trade USA which is one of the leading certifier of fair trade products
in North America. Fair Trade USA was founded by Paul Rice in 1998. From a non profit
organization, Fair Trade USA growth has been phenomenal. Initially after first year of its inception,
it started certifying one million pounds of coffee. Today it is certifying more than 1 billion pounds
of coffee per day.
Ft USA got into valuable partnerships with Starbucks, Pepsi co, Whole foods and others and
received 55 % brand recognition amongst its consumers in USA. Though the growth looks
tremendous, FT USA currently certifies less than 6 % of all coffee consumed in the U.S. Rice has
then thought how the 10 million dollar non profit should proceed over the next decade. So Ft USA
oriented itself towards the pursuit of deep and effective social impact with real market penetration
that will better match its existing widespread consumer brand recognition.
FT USA benefitted over seven million people in developing countries and helped rural families
who were in poverty. FT USA ensured that its label means ensured strict adherence to a rigorous set
of standards that serve to inform the customers that certified products are socially and
environmentally responsible.
As a social enterprise, FT USA early on had sought to reduce dependency on grants and donations
by first building a strong earned revenue stream, which came from its certification services and by
licensing the Fair Trade Certified

She most definitely excels at abstract thinking, as Violet creates many useful inventions throughout the book and has no problem getting past functional fixedness. In order to attempt to save Sunny she creates the grappling hook, which would have inevitably worked if she didn t get caught by a henchman. Klaus Baudelaire is twelve years of age and, like his older sister, is also in the formal operational stage. He acts much older than his age, as he has good morals and abstract thinking. Klaus is the one who realizes that if Violet participates in Count Olaf s play, then she will be legally wed to him. As well as thinking, he has gained morals and fights along side Violet to counteract Count Olaf and his unjust rules and horrible acts he commits towards the children, especially the youngest Sunny. Sunny is only listed as in infant in the book, but she is clearly in the sensorimotor stage. Her world consists of experiences via her senses and actions. One of her main characteristics that was brought up in the book was how much she enjoys biting things and people. This places her in the oral psychosexual stage, meaning she gains pleasure through biting things, like most little kids do. • 4. Acetic Acid Concentration Lab Report In this experiment, the concentration of acetic acid in a sample of vinegar was calculated. The sample used for the experiment was sample 4, created on 2/22/2017. The concentration was calculated by titrating the vinegar with NaOH. Unfortunately, NaOH does not form a pure solution so its concentration also had to be calculated. This was done by using it to titrate a solution of KHP, which does form a pure solution. Once the concentration of NaOH was known, it could be used to calculate the mols of acetic acidin a known volume of vinegar, giving us the concentration. This will result in the calculated mass of acetic acid to be higher. This is because it appears that additional NaOH was required to titrate the solution, and the mols ... The final average concentration after three trials was 0.5285% by mass. All of the measurements used were taken to four significant figures. One potential source of error is the use of an indicator and titration. In order to induce a change in the color of the solution, it must become slightly basic, this means that more NaOH was added than was actually required to neutralize the acetic acid. This error would indicate that the concentration of acetic acid was slightly higher than it really is; unfortunately, it is unavoidable with the current experiment setup. Another problem with the titration process is that the base can only be added in drops, limiting the precision even more. Aside from these limitations it appears that the process yielded fairly accurate results, with only a 5.706% error when compared to the industry ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Studying unseen processes presents difficulties, it would not be practical or ethical to open a persons head to try to unravel the processes that take place whilst they make a cup of tea or drive their car to work. Although examining processes presents difficulties, studying patients who have sustained brain damage can provide insights into parts that play a role in cognitive processes. Findings from case studies are extrapolated to the general population to provide an insight into normal cognition. An early example and often cited case study is Phineas Gage who suffered damage to his frontal lobe because of an accident in 1848; prior to the accident, he was friendly and dependable, however after the accident, he became unreliable and his social skills suffered, this suggests the frontal lobe is involved in planning and social skills. Damasio (1994, (cited in Jansari, 2010)) recreated damage sustained by Gage, after a patient exhibited the same changes in behaviour after undergoing surgery to remove a tumour in the frontal lobe. • 20. The Effects Of Intrinsic And Extrinsic Motivation And... Intrinsic or Extrinsic Motivation and Student Achievement Rosa Elena Garza Texas Tech University EPSY 5379 Abstract To examine the effects of rewards on intrinsic motivation for children in special education, a review of research was conducted. Students who are intrinsically motivated, tend to experience school success because they select challenging activities and spend more time on the task at hand. It can be very easy to undermine intrinsic motivation by using rewards. This change in motivation then results in more errors in the learning process as well as slower acquisition of skills. Intrinsic or Extrinsic Motivation and Student Achievement Students with learning disabilities are often extremely unmotivated. To them, school tends to be one failure after another. This poor student achievement is usually due to an extreme lack of motivation. In attempts to overcome this lack of motivation, rewards are offered. Many of us have heard, If only they were more motivated, they would do so much better on test and get better grades when having conversations about these individuals. The effect that is intended for the reward is often mistaken and therefore it can have the opposite effect of what was originally intended. Children who lack intrinsic motivation will get the wrong idea from receiving rewards. Sometimes when rewards are used, the student will find ways to excel in the task more so then when the reward is not in place (Amabile and Gitmore, 1984). Students with ... If your service advisors are not actively selling preventative maintenance on a continuous basis, they are leaving money on the table that should be easy enough to get. This is especially true if they know customers from dealing with them in the past and have access to their maintenance history and repair records. It s a matter of being proactive with your customers and explaining the real value of staying ahead in the repair and maintenancegame. Every time a customer comes to your service department for any reason, you have an opportunity to sell them on preventative maintenance that may not come your way again. Often, customers go to their service department only when they have repair needs they are not sure of, and go to secondary repair and maintenance shops for things like oil changes, brake service or tires. It was interesting because before I read the text I used to think that most things in life are pre determined. fatalism was similar to my philosophy. I believe everything is pre determined, and mental things are able to be control. I think we can change the process, but the result would be the same. 2. For instance, if this story were to be read to those select individuals in the world that still sacrifice people for good crops and such things then they would probably think of this story as dull and uninteresting because nothing is out of the ordinary to them. • 29. Nature Vs Nurture As A Serial Killer Historical Background What causes an individual to become a serial killer? Bio psychologists believe that starting from birth the human mind is a tabula rasa or blank slate, and the individual learns behaviors and socio cultural norms from individuals around them. This concept of nature versus nurture was based upon the idea that it is how you are brought up (nurture) that governs the psychologically significant aspects of child development and the concept of maturation applies only to the biological. The theory that explains the nature aspect of the nature versus nurture principle is called the attachment theory, which views the bond between mother and child as being an innate process that ensures survival. It is a biological need that has ensured the survival of many species including the human race; because of the need to protect and be protected humans as a species has been able to endure. It is also a psychological need to want to be cared for as well as care for others a study done by Harry Harlow (1950s). The concept of nurture focuses mainly on the effect that the environment has on the development of human beings and whether it is more important than nature. Several studies have been generated to try and settle the ongoing debate of nature versus nurture. Many psychologists agree that nurture play a greater part in the development of a human being. This Way for the Gas Ladies and Gentlemen aided my understanding of the Holocaust with its overarching themes of dehumanization, death, and detachment. Throughout the entire novel the theme of dehumanization is particularly evident in both the prisoner workers and the transport prisoners. The Nazi guards are said to have beefy (pg. 41) faces, while an S.S. officer is described as having a rat like smile as she sniffed around (pg. 41) the ramp. Prisoners are referred to as standing around like sheep (pg. 48). Starving Greek prisoners are compared to huge human insects (pg. 35). Even the transport trucks are called mad dogs (pg. 41). Everyone is treated and processed like livestock. Trucks drive around, loading up lumber, cement, people (pg. 34), is yet another example of how a human life was lowered to that of a mere object. A corpse is simply a mound of meat (pg. 45), and dead babies are carried out of the transport like chickens, several in each hand (pg. 39). The poisonous compound Cyclone B used to kill the prisoners was an effective killer of lice in clothing and of men in gas chambers (pg. 29). Second is the theme of death. Death became a currency for the prison workers: work for the Nazis for a second bowl of soup, an extra blanket, a pair of shoes, a piece of bread, etc... The prisoners literally live off of death. • 31. The Structural Health Monitoring Systems Abstract Structural health monitoring systems frequently use optimisation algorithms to update or identify system parameters in structural dynamics. In this study, an implementation of similar updating techniques is developed for thermal non destructive material inspection using adaptive response surfaces to approximate experimental parameters (thermal conductivity, convective heat transfer excitation timing) for updating a finite element model. The use of thermal models results in high non linearities in parameter influences and parameter updating accuracies, which are discussed. In this work, adaptive response surface methods are compared using interpolation, piecewise spline and polynomial regression functions. In this paper, the most widely used optimisation routines for structural dynamics are compared and validated on a thermal case with multiple independent parameters. The influence of the choice of optimisation parameters is discussed and compared between the different optimisation routines. Finally, a well suited data reduction technique is investigated which transforms the data set to a smaller, focused response model in each optimisation loop and delivers a proper regression accuracy. It is demonstrated that the use of interpolating regression delivers more accurate parameter estimations in contrast to structural dynamic updating where polynomial regression delivers superior results. 1 Introduction Computer simulation is an economic and fast way to determine ...
