Persuasive Essay On The Open Carry Law
Ever since the president Donald J. Trump was elected, the country has been divided greatly due
to racism just how it occurred in the 1950 s. In 1955, Rosa Parks, a black woman, was arrested
because she refused to give up her seat on a bus to a white person. This event caused a great uproar
amongst the Whites and the Blacks that lead into many civil right movements in which the Black
peopleparticipated by protesting. For example, the incident that occurred on August 12 of this year
with the an anti white supremacist group who was protesting in the same city as the white
supremacist protesters. A random person drove their car into the crowd of the anti white
supremacist protesters and ended up killing one woman and left dozen more seriously injured. To
this incident, President Trump gave a press conference about the horrific act of the murder while
stating that there were good and bad people on either side, justifying the act of the murder of
running over the anti white supremacists. Sadly, while Trump remains in office, the country will
not become less violent and people from different races will end up shooting each with or without
the open carrylaw. California has become more violent over time, especially with President
Trump in office. No one is safe in public and if the decision to open carry is reinstated, the law
would be a much safer choice for anyone who wants to protect themselves and their loved ones.
While some people may argue that guns are better

The Election Of The Parti Quebecois
With the recent provincial election victory of the Parti QuГ©bГ©cois, the nation of Canada will
encounter many upcoming challenges in a fierce battle that will ensue, sparked by the Parti
QuГ©bГ©cois, in an attempt to achieve a sovereign Quebec. These challenges will require
immediate and effective action on issues regarding the Parti QuГ©bГ©cois platform centering on
the objective of achieving a sovereign Quebec. Canadian national unity is at risk and being
challenged with the election of the Parti QuГ©bГ©cois and through the separatist movement
gaining strength within Quebec. The election of the Parti QuГ©bГ©cois is an indisputable reality
that demonstrates the emergence of the separatist movement progressing and gaining sway in
Quebec. This poses an extremely dangerous threat to the nation of Canada, as national unity is at the
forefront of present day Canadian issues and being pushed to the breaking point. The separation
movement in Quebec is reaching drastic heights that have not been witnessed before throughout the
history of Canada and I urge you, Mr. Pierre Elliott Trudeau, to act immediately via taking a
number of suggested actions that will result in the satisfaction of the residents of Quebec. It is
crucial to take immediate action to please the Parti QuГ©bГ©cois and citizens of Quebec
simultaneously to ensure a unified Canada and in order to impede the separatist movement. Most
notable among the many reasons for the Quebecois electing the Parti QuГ©bГ©cois to power is the

Essay Summer and Smoke
Summer and Smoke
Mr. Thomas Williams (Tennessee,) was born in Columbus, Mississippi to Cornelius Coffin and
Edwina Dankin Williams, March 26 1911. Thomas family moves to Missouri in 1918, and between
the years of 1929 and 1939 Tennessee attends three different universities. After having written his
first Blanche DuBois scene, from A Streetcar named Desire, in December of 1944, he took a few
months break and wrote his first draft of Summer and Smoke. As a result, the character Alma is
seen having a parallel to Blanche. Also in the year 1937, Tennessee s sister Rose is institutionalized
for schizophrenia. Typically patients with schizophrenia are at times progressive, at times
intermediate and can regress at anytime. They also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Eventually, October 6, 1948, interestingly enough, the play opened before it was eventually
published by New Directions on November 17, 1948. Also, Summer and Smoke was re written
and published in 1965 under the new title: The Eccentricities of a Nightingale, which was
eventually, by Dramatic Publishing s changed back to Summer and Smoke. Original scenic
design was created by Jo Meizner, who had created a Skeletonized view of John s office, and an
equally Victorian view on the right, and, in between the town square, presided over by the statue
of a kneeling Angel (Bordman.) Original stars of the show included Todd Andrews, as John, and
Katherine Balfour, as Alma. The production ran for only 100 performances, after being constantly
compared to and eventually replaced by A Streetcar named Desire. Part of the reason why critics
believe this show was so unsuccessful is because Margo Jones went about this blind eyed, and only
had the guide of Tennessee when she went to visit him, they
blame the poor outcome of this show on its poor staging and directing.
The London premiere of Summer and smoke opened April of 1952, at Circle and Square Theater,
starring Geraldine Paige and running for 356 performances, clearly this production was much better
received than the opening production in New York. Washington s Arena Stage and the
Williamstown Theater Festival also

A Brief Note On The Primary Function Of Exec
Lab 2
CSNB324
Muath Abdullah SN091649
Answer Q1:
Execv(): it is a prototype of exec family, v is added to indicate the type of argument which in this
case specified as a vector (array of character pointers). The primary function of exec () system call
is to execute a file or a program. This is done by creating a new process image from a regular,
executable file.
This file is either an interpreter script or an executable file object. It has the form execv(char
*path, char *argv[], char *envp[]). The path argument is the pathname of a file that contains the
new program to be executed. The argv array is a list of parameter strings, and the envp array is a
list of environment variable strings and values that should be used when the process begins
executing the new programs. When a process encounters the execve() system call, the next
instruction it executes will be the one at the entry point of the new executable file.
Execvp()
The created child process does not have to run the same program as the parent process does. The
exec type system calls allow a process to run any program files, which include a binary
executable or a shell script. On this page, we only discuss one such system call: execvp(). The
execvp() system call requires two arguments: 1. The first argument is a character string that
contains the name of a file to be executed.
2. The second argument is a pointer to an array of character strings. More precisely, its type is char
**, which is exactly identical to the

Latinx Feminist Theory
The term feminism encapsulates a vast variety of topics important to women s rights.
Unfortunately, feminist theory is often talked about within the restrictions of a reproductive binary.
Latinx feminist theory is more than just a reproduction binary. As women of color, Latinx women
have historically been undermined and excluded from social narratives. Latinx women however,
challenge various forms of oppression, such as the perpetuations of sexism, racism, and violence,
by sharing their testimonios to the world a vulnerable yet incredibly strong form of resistance. This
specialized theory addresses many of the barriers that intersect and impact Latinx women on a daily

I demonstrate the importance of allywork to the Latinx feminist theory in stanza six by which I
call for readers to help Liberate not only women, but anyone oppressed. Despite the differences of
our experiences, Latinx feminist theory believes that our differences should serve as an incentive to
establish solidarity towards justice, not another borderland to cross. Similar to the reproductive
justice theory s utilization of the Ubuntu philosophy, the belief in the universal bond of sharing that
connects all humanity (201 RJT) Latinx feminist theory embraces unity as a direct path to the
realization of the left world concept. Furthermore, I emphasize the essentiality of allywork to the

how vital it is to Latinx feminist theory to being unified among marginalized groups as a way of

In Lurhman s Strictly Ballroom and Mitchell s It Follows, both directors use colour and music to
enhance the experience of the romantic comedy and horror genre films. Where Mitchell uses
audio and visual cues to break the conventional style of horror films in It Follows, Luhrman s
Strictly Ballroom uses audio and visual cues enhance the romantic comedy experience further.
Where It Follows, relies on visuals to tell it s story, Strictly Ballroom uses bright colors and musical
cues to reassure the audience that the two main characters will end up together.
In Mitchell s It Follows, he enlists the help of composer Vreeland to create music for his film.
Traditionally a composer for video games, Vreeland s music consists of the 8 bit type music that is
consistently found in Vreeland s main line of work. Whereas traditional horror films may carry
orchestral music, Vreeland s music is synthesized and therefore stands out because of it. In
combination with his composer s music, Mitchell also uses silence and natural ambience to further
break the horror music stereotype. Where more popular horror films would use silence, darkness
and loud sounds to help increase tension, Mitchell uses silence and music to do that instead.
Vreeland s music, which mainly contains higher pitched music enhanced by low beats, is mainly
used during key moments that involves the Follower. For example, during our second introduction
to It, the music consists of high pitched (flat sounding?????) notes

Rhetorical Analysis Of The Great Influenza By John Barry
The Author of The Great Influenza, John M. Barry, used rhetorical devices to inform the public of
how science is about not knowing and figuring out how to prove the suggested idea. The scientists
had to deal with uncertainty and manipulating results and experiments to prove their idea, just like
Barry used rhetorical devices to manipulate the reader s ideas and thoughts.
John M. Barry has written award winning books including the Influenza pandemic of 1918, and the
great Mississippi flood. Being invited by 2 presidential administrations, Bush and Obama, to advise
on preparedness for pandemics and pandemic response. Having also advised on state, federal, UN

The Reign Of The King
From the reign of King John beginning in 1199 to the reign of Edward III ending in 1377, the
role of kingship is slowly put in to question. Throughout this time period kings find that they now
need to consult with a council in order rule successfully. This time period begins with an
absolute monarchy, but the authority of the king is gradually limited. These changes slowly
grow thought this time period while the authority of parliament increases. This time period also
calls into question how the king is viewed, whether as a person or as an office. This essay will
trace the political authority of the king and his growing limitations. Additionally, it will discuss
the birth of parliament and its increase in political power not only as a whole, but also in
relationship to the power of the king. It is within the reign of King John, where limitation of the
king s power is called into play. These limitations will set the stage for the eventual formation of
parliament and a lessening of the king s influence that future kings cannot ignore. However, with
John, as opposed to these future kings, the changes are relatively ineffective, but will set incoming
limitation to the king s power in motion. These events are triggered when war breaks out in
France as of 1202 when the French King gives John s titles to Arthur, Duke of Brittany. John
achieves a victory at Mirebeau, but as of 1204, he loses much of the northern empire. In 1214, after
the loss at the Battle of Bouvines, John

Chinese Imagined Community Essay
The Chinese Canadian experience during the 19th and 20th centuries provides a classic example of
history s role in the nation making process, the creation of an imagined community (Stanley 477).
The anti Asian exclusion era (1880s to 1940s) in Canada played a pivotal role in the emergence of
the Chinese identity. Benedict Anderson describes the imagined community as a community that is
built through emotional ties with one another. Anderson states that the community is imagined
because the members of even the smallest nation will never know most of their fellow members,
meet them, or even hear of them, yet in the minds of each lives the image of their communion,
(Anderson 1991). With this said, Chinese Canadians felt a strong... Show more content on

This labour was in high demand because Canadian and American capitalists were eager to find the
most inexpensive solution (Spencer 21). However, things changed when the white European
population of Canada heard rumours that Chinese immigrants were taking over whole industries in
California, such as the shoe making industry and cigar manufacturing industries (Spencer 22). Fear
of continuous growth in Chinese labourers, the Canadian government implemented several anti
Asian laws including the Chinese Head Tax of 1885 and the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1923. First
these laws were intended to restrict the amount of Chinese immigrants coming into Canada,
however eventually the laws were changed to stop Chinese immigration in its entirety. Laws that
openly discriminated against Chinese immigrants led public opinion to see Chinese immigrants as
an alien race that did not belong within Canada(Stanley 486). The Canadian press also played a
huge role in marking Chinese immigrants as alien. In 1882, the Toronto based journal the Trades
Union Advocate/Wage Worker noted, the Chinese are a vile race. It is recorded in one locality in
China they recently destroyed 80 percent of their children...merely because they were girls,
(Spencer 23). By depicting the Chinese as a vile race the Canadian population became disillusioned
towards Chinese immigrants. These strong feelings of explicit racism and discrimination

Trendy Women Hairstyles for Straight Hair 2016
Summary: Still in doubt about the perfect straight hair hairstyle for your face shape? Check out the
trendiest of options for 2016.
Straight Hair Styling first originated towards the very end of the 19th century and ever since it has
evolved in leaps and bounds. The smooth, uniform texture provides one with a distinct advantage in
looking pretty. Class can be effortlessly associated with this form of styling owing to the shine it
naturally exhibits due to the flat surface of the hair. Let s have a look at 5 viable experiments that
can be implemented on straight hair by taking into consideration various face shapes.

Women with large foreheads can resort to this style in order to hide the extra margins, but with the
assistance of a straight haircut of medium length. The length can vary from person to person in
accordance with different face shapes.
Melted Shag
Another trendy style popular among women is the melted shag which is applicable for women with
long straight hairstyles. If the entire stretch of hair is demarcated into three quarters, the entire
stretch till the bottom (third) quarter is to remain plain and smooth. The third quarter is improvised
by effective ironing to give it a distinguished look and texture. The smoothness can be maintained
by carefully catering to all sections of the hair while straightening and is the most advisable for
women with round faces.
Round Layers
One might complain of hair falling on the face, especially the ones with straight hair. In order to
avoid this, round layers ensure that the front layers remain relatively short with it extending
towards the back. Styling agents are to be used in order to ensure the same and effective ironing
has to be resorted to for proper smoothening. Optimum levels of heat treatment are also advisable
for relevant enhancement of the same. Mainly women having a wide face shape can opt for this
hairstyle in order to receive the desired

The Egyptians shouted each day, Cursed you Moses! Your sheep, and your brother Aaron.
Moses told Pharaoh to let God s people go. But the foolish king s heart was very stubborn. And

as business can charge a similar price but locally to secure as much revenue as possible.
In this screen shot you can see that there is only one other studio space in Harrogate, and after

nothing about pricing, availability or much else. This would imply they don t get much business
as they aren t trying very hard to advertise. Though this could imply that the lack of effort is due
to a lack of interest, I believe there is definitely enough demand in the Harrogate area, and it only
leaves more room in the Harrogate market for my business to occupy.
I think that this business will require a location that is enough distance from the city centre so
not to disturb other businesses and flats, as when bands are playing music, maybe more than one
at a time, a substantial amount of noise pollution will be created. However it does need to be
close enough that it is easily accessible and can be seen by the general public easily. So perhaps

History has shown that weapons systems that have a 30 year life cycle or longer, incur
approximately 60 80% of the cost associated with the platform in the operations and sustainment
phase of the system s life cycle. (Figure 2) Therefore, in order to maximize recapitalization and
modernization efforts, the Air Force must consider the extensive myriad of types of logistics
support required to field, operate, employ, and sustain a new weapon system in the post
Sequestration environment. Moreover, the Air Force must effectively balance DoD directives for

Technology And Artificial Intelligence
A disruptive technology is a technology that that displaces an existing technology, thus shaking up
the industry, or it can also be a ground breaking technology that creates a completely new market.
Technology can be categorized into two different categories, one of which is a disruptive
technology, which lacks refinement, often has performance problems, because it is new it appeals
to a limited audience and may or may not yet have a proven practical application. On the other hand,
we also have sustaining technologies and these rely on steady improvements to an already existing
technology. A recent contemporary disruptive technology that has emerged is that of robots and
artificial intelligence. Artificial intelligence is intelligence exhibited by machines. In computer
science terms it artificial intelligence can be interpreted as any device that perceives its
environment and takes an action that maximizes its chance of success at some specific goal.
Consequently, the term artificial intelligence is applied when a machine is able to accomplish
cognitive functions that humans associate with human skill such as learning and problem solving
(Stuart et al). As computers have become exceedingly faster and more efficient, artificial
intelligence has also rose to the forefront and is being implemented in technologies varying from
autonomous cars to chess games and is increasingly becoming smarter as time progresses (Stuart et
al). Artificial intelligence is a disruptive

Bullies Vs Dictators
Your typical school bully and a country s dictator, what s the difference? When asked this
question many said, One rules the school, while the other one rules a country. . The truth is,
there are many differences between the two, but with differences comes similarities. What are
some differences between these two tyrannical figures? First, we need to know what a dictator
and a school bully is. A dictator is a ruler with total power over a country. One of the most well
known dictators is Adolf Hitler. Adolf was a dictator who was considered the most terrifying man
of his time . A school bully is a person who uses strength or power to harm or intimidate those who
are weaker. Now that you know the definitions of each, we can go on into the differences between
the two. The most important difference between the two is why they treat people inadequately.
School bullies overpower people because they feel insecure about themselves. Dictators, on the
other hand, treat people atrociously because they strive for power. The next difference is that a...

The Trojan Women ( 1971 )
The movie The Trojan Women (1971) is a successful and compelling contemporary adaption of the
tragedy The Trojan Women, written by Euripides. Overall, the film follows the whole plot very
well and depicts the main characters of Euripides work expressly, especially characters like
Cassandra, Andromache, and Helen. Although the director of the film has made a few slight
alterations, audience can feel Trojan women s grief and pain and comprehend the plot with no
trouble.
The film and the ancient play have some minor disparities. First, in the beginning, the play starts
with the conversation between Poseidon and Athena. Poseidon describes the aftermath of the war
and the bleak scene, giving out a background story. Then, Athena has changed her mind and
switched to the Trojan side. In contract, there is no god involved and appeared in the movie.
Poseidon s and Athena s role is taken by a narrator. The scene of women being pushed is enough to
show to the audience the background. Second, the chorus only sings once in the film, mostly just
speaking, while the chorus in the play sings in between every act. The chorus is used to switch to
the next act and to tell the background. However, the film is quite fluent without excess singings of
the chorus, because the movie is easy to change the location, time, and setting smoothly. Small

Stephen Kings Why We Crave Horror Films Essay
As I was lying in bed recalling the event happened an hour before I was thinking to myself that I
will never look at lightning the same way again. Thunder and lightning was still present in the
night sky as I lay there in bed thanking God I was alive and well. Each flash of lightning lit the
entire room and each clap of thunder rattled the windows of my hotel room. Lightning can seem
much more terrifying when you re up 20,000 ft in the mountains, and the thunder sounds a lot
louder too. The sound of nature s fury seemed to slowly descend as the night went on, but my nerves
did not. I was still stunned and in shock of being stuck in a lightning storm high in the mountains. I

Soon the moonlight illuminated the scenery. As I was standing on the balcony admiring the
scenery something finally went wrong, a huge black cloud covered the moon. I soon heard the
thunder. It seemed to be nothing to worry about, so I didn t acknowledge it. A few hours later the
thunder grew louder and I could see the flashes of lightning headed our way. I went inside to
inform my parents of the weather, but they didn t seem to worry about it much until the cloud was
almost over the lodge. My family and I left the reception alone while everyone else stayed in cover;
they were the smart ones I thought.
We left quickly walking fast and practically running toward the gondolas so we wouldn t be
stuck on the mountain all night long. By now the storm was close and so was the lightning. The
people at the station loaded the four of us into a gondola and we slowly worked our way down
the mountain. Hanging in this tiny box of metal by a hook on a wire cable was not the most
reassuring thing. I looked out the window hoping to see the ground, but it was too dark. I could
barely see the hand in front my own face. Lightning would flash, and all I could make out were
the tops of trees. Paranoia overwhelmed me. My breaths seemed to become further and further
apart as time slowed. As I was trying to relieve my mind of worst case scenario, a big flash and
enormous rumble sounded. We stopped moving. Our gondola had

Summary Of The Lion By Brian Steinwall
When a small plane crashes into the Ecuador s rainforest two survivors of the crash, the
Frenchman Didier and the Belgian man Florent, set out on a journey through the jungle,

seems that several days of walking don t bring them any closer to civilization. Then they stumble
upon ruins of an ancient city with burial sites and a cave full of gold. They believe it is the
legendary treasure gathered by the Incas in the 16th century to pay for release of their emperor,

The Success Of Aston Martin
When one has a history of car racing talent, passion for automobiles and enthusiasm, one can start
their own car production and sales business. That s how the Aston Martin brand was started, born
into a garage by Lionel Matin and Robert Bamford.
After Lionel Martin emerged victorious out of the famed Aston Hill race, Aston Martinwas founded
in the year 1913. The duo of Martin Bamford produced their first car 2 years later in 1915 by
fitting a four cylinder Coventry Simplex engine to a 1908 Isotta Fraschinni chassis. However, the
First World War shattered their plans of starting production as both car makers joined the army.
Down but not out, Aston Martin prevailed as soon as the War was over, with the company being
refunded to resume its activity. But soon after bad news again came by when Bamford left Aston
Martin in 1920. Luckily Martin found a wealthy investor Count Louis Zborowski who saw the true
potential of the brand and poured heavy funds into its rejuvenation.
Aston Martin produced vehicles to compete in the French Grand Prix in 1922.It gained fame by
appearing in some of the most popular races of that time, the cars also collected acclaim by setting

Unit 207 Understand Person Centred Approaches Essays
Unit 207 Understand person centred approaches in adult social care settings.
Outcome 1 Understand person centred approaches for care and support.
1.1 Define Person centred values.
Person centred values means the people whom we support are treated as equals and are involved
in all aspects and areas of their care and that they are respected and valued as individuals. This
means being involved in their assessments, care delivery and support planning, basically person
centred values is making sure all approaches, policies and procedures and care practices put the
residents at the centre of the day to day activities. It should also include the residents and their
families in the planning and maintaining of this.
1.2 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The development of a support plan is the perfect example of how person centred working operates.
Instead offering people a choice of what is currently available and finding what best fits their
needs, person centred working looks at someone s needs and built the support package around
them. One of the important aspects of person centred planning is to look at what people are able
to do for themselves and to ensure that services are not taking over aspects of a person s life that
they could perfectly well manage without support.
Outcome 3 Understand the importance of establishing consent when providing care or support.
3.1 Define the word consent
Consent is the informed agreement to an action and/or decision. Permission for something to
happen or agreement to do something.
3.2 Explain the importance of gaining consent when providing care or support.
When working with an individual it is important to uphold their rights to be fully involved in their
own care, whilst adhering to legal requirements. It is also the individuals right to refuse any care,
support or treatment they do not want. It is also essential that people not only give you their
consent but also that they understand what they are consenting to and the implications of this.
Gaining consent protects not just the career but the individual receiving the care and support as
well. If no consent is given then you cannot proceed with the care. It is illegal to pressure anyone

Analysis Of The Struggle To Be An All-American Girl
Elizabeth Wong is a Chinese American playwright that wrote The Struggle to Be an All American
Girl originally published in the Los Angeles Times in 1990. In her short story, she describes her
resentment of her Chinese roots and her protest against her parents that want her to learn and
appreciate her heritage and Chinese culture. Her short story exposes the pressure that immigrant
children place on themselves to fit into the dominant culture. The proposed solutions to fixing this
problem is thinking and implementing long term solutions.
Elizabeth Wong puts pressure on herself at an early age to fit in the dominant culture. She wants to
be the stereotypical All American girl. Wong starts off describing the Chinese school her and her...

Heli Skiing Research Paper
What is Heli skiing?
By Pete Malcolm
Aug 24, 2012
Imagine yourself being ferried by one of those gondolas at a ski resort. You see slopes that look
like totally awesome places to ski. You ask the guide whether you ll be skiing there and he curtly
replies No, and he points you in the other direction where you see natural scenery with a variety
of landscapes. That s where you ll be skiing. So what is heli skiing? It s getting on a helicopter and
then going to that radical wilderness site to ski. No rules, no artificial snow blowers and nobody to
tell you what you can or you can t do. It s about finding that extreme location via a chopper, getting
dropped off and totally going for it.
There are two types of heli skiing, the US/Canadian model and the European model. The US
/Canadian model is pretty much like your normal routine skiing venue, except that your site is way
off limits and practically unfettered by human existence and you get to be brought by the chopper
again and again to your starting point. The chopper is acting like your normal ski lift.
The European model is similar though much more exhausting because of the length of travel that
you have to make. The chopper drops you down on your starting point and then you proceed to

The House Of Mirth And The Awakening Essay
While feminist ideologies in both The House of Mirth and The Awakening are quite controversial
and maybe to some nonexistent, it is quite evident that there are these two women who want to
fight against their societal norms and patriarchal society. Lily Bart from House of Mirth tries to
manipulate societal norms in order to achieve success, and Edna Pontellier from The Awakening
actively tries to become and independent woman. In the end, I think they both succeed in
becoming independent women and ideal feminists because of how they fight against their
societies. Even though both Edna and Lily are suppressed by their society, they not only use their
knowledge of society to fight against it, but they prove in the end of both novels that they are
truly independent women and can be just as free willed as the men. Both Edna Pontellier and Lily
Bart understand what society expects of them, and they use that knowledge later to manipulate
conventional societal norms to try to become individuals. Albeit, it does not end ideally for them,
but throughout both The Awakening and The House of Mirth Edna and Lily fight the suppressive
nature of their societies. Edna is different from Lily in this sense, however, because Edna
eventually actively rejects the ideal mother woman. When the novel first begins, we get a glimpse
of what Edna was like when she was younger, which continues during her marriage to Mr.
Pontellier. Knowing what she was like earlier on in her life shows how she

##bols And Symbolism In Lord Of The Flies, By William Golding
Symbols and symbolism are important to have in a story because it helps readers to focus on the
deeper meanings and themes under the main story. Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, is a
novel that contains myriad symbolism. The novel is about a group of young boys who get
stranded on an island with no adults, and the boys need to collaborate to survive; however, as
time goes on, the collaborative efforts crumble and the boys begin to reveal their inner savage
nature. To show the progression of savagery in the boys, Golding uses several symbols the conch,
the mask, and the beast but none of these symbols are as important as the fire. The fire is the most
important symbolbecause it emphasizes the importance of hope and rescue on the island, and
how it can prevail even through the bos savage nature. On an island with no hope and seemingly
no escape, the fire provides and symbolizes hope and rescue to escape the island. When Ralph is
rallying the boys in the assembly, his main priority to the boys is that [they] must make smoke
on the top of the mountain, [they] must make a fire (38). At this point in the story, Ralph has
already been established as the leader, so his priority is very powerful to the boys on the island,
to which they run to the mountain and attempt to create the signal fire. This quote is also
important because it establishes the symbol of fire to be a beacon of hope and rescue for the
boys, which is essential if they want to escape the island alive.

Stereotypes And Film Stereotypes
Stereotypes and Films This week, in Chapter 5 The Perceptual Context, we covered stereotypes.
Stereotypes typically refer to membership in social categories such as sex, race, age, or
profession, that are believed to be associated with certain traits and behaviors, as noted by
Neuliep (2015). Stereotypes can often stem from an individual s own perception and form one s
cultural upbringing. The film I am covering, as it relates to stereotypes is Think Like a Man.
Think Like a Man is about four women who are at their wits end with dead road relationships.
When the women discover Steve Harvey s book, Think Like a Man, they began turning their
relationships around. It becomes short lived when the guys figure out they have been betrayed by the

Today, white expectation that African Americans will not be able to make it on their own is a racist
message, a self fulfilling prophecy which suggests that the latter lack the cultural and ethical
requisites (the work ethic, commitment, integrity, etc.) likely to help them climb the
socioeconomic pyramid. The stereotype displayed in this scene is that African Americans think all
Caucasians has excellent credit. The black guys assumed that the white guy s black girlfriend is
with him, because of his great credit status and financial privileges and the one of the white guys
seemingly agreed. I think this originated from the history of most Caucasians had great finances
and wealth, which in turn gave them the ability to buy more and pay for more things. I believe
that the assumption begun from poor African Americans, as many saw Caucasians as privileged
many years ago. I think today this stereotype is wrong, I believe all race has good and bad credit
ratings. The fact that this is or was a stereotype of Caucasians this confirms that stereotyping is
cultural. Indeed, cultural approach to stereotyping emphasizes that stereotypes are learned,
maintained, and potentially changed through the language and communication a culture as stated
by MaCrae et al., (1996).

Philosophical And Scientific Pointers To Creatio
On philosophical and Scientific Pointers to Creatio Ex Nihilo Where did our universe come from?
It is one of the most fascinating questions that we can think about. One thing that makes this
question so interesting is the fact that there are only two possible answers; God, or some other
being like Godcreated our universe, or a natural process created our universe, but which is it? Did
God or Nature create the universe that we live in? All those questions need a deep breath and
good analysis to find the answer. On William Lane Craig s Philosophical and Scientific Pointers to
Creatio Ex Nihilo, Craig has an amazing argument about the beginning of the universe. Craig
supported his idea, which is the universe has a beginning, by a series of premises. The first one is
that an actual infinite cannot exist, the second one is that a beginningless series of events in time is
an actual infinite, and the last one is that a beginningless... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Craig started his series of supporting by saying that an actual infinite cannot exist, the meaning of
the term actual infinite is crucial toward the understanding of this argument. An actual infinite
means that nothing further may be added or subtracted. One of the unique traits of an actual infinite
is that part of the set is equal to the whole set. For instance, in an actually infinite set of numbers,
the number of even numbers in the set is equal to all of the numbers in the set. This follows because
an infinite set of numbers contains an infinite number of even numbers as well as an infinite
number of all numbers. By contrast, a potential infinite is a set of things that can be added to
without ever reaching infinity. Such a set may be ever increasing without limit yet is at all times
finite. Whereas actual infinites are definite collections, potential infinites contain an indefinite
collection of

Reflection Of Dante s Paradiso
Who would you rather believe: a poet that writes of his journey through heaven, or The Holy
Bible? Dante, the poet that writes about heaven claims that, I have been in that Heaven of his most
light and what I saw, those who descend from there lack both the knowledge and the power to
write (1.596.3 6). Dante s Paradiso is the third installment in his Divine Comedyseries, written in
the early 14th century. Paradiso follows a man named Dante s journey through Heaven. Dante s
vivid explanation of baffling things such as the trinityand one s overall faithfulness is said to be
...the closest expression of that experience ever achieved in human language (Rudd). Although
Dante s Paradiso includes resemblances to the biblical Heaven, his folk lore filled piece is a
flawed and an inaccurate representation of Heaven.
A misconception found throughout Dante s Paradiso is that there are different levels of Heaven
dedicated to the amount of good deeds, faithfulness, and prayer one performs during their life.
For example, the second sphere of Heaven, known as Mercury, is for those who did many just
and righteous deeds during their life, but were driven by ambition. For this reason, the souls that
were not entirely selfless dwell far away from God and are near the ... Show more content on

The Beauty Of Dystopia By Aldous Huxley
The beauty of dystopia is that it lets us vicariously experience future worlds but we still have the
power to change our own. (Ally Condie). Dystopian Literature is intriguing as it exposes the
reader to sometimes unconventional concepts and can also serve as a warning to what may
become of society if the wrong path is chosen. In literary works of Brave New World, there are
many warnings that the author Aldous Huxleyestablishes through events that take place in the
civilized world. In this dystopian society we can observe that science is the thriving fragment
that holds society together but it seems to demoralize and mitigate human morals and values. It
is also apparent that love and family are non existent in this society as sex is meaningless and
having a baby is considered a big shame. Some literature such as the works of Shakespeare and
holy books are banned in society in order eliminate outbursts from people who become too curious
and possess a threat to social stability.
Science is important and beneficial to any thriving society. In this dystopian society science is
what keeps it together and functioning the way that the world controllers would would like it to
be. Science is used in a way that mitigates what a human should be through its oppressive powers.
People are oppressed through the taking of soma which is a mass produced, government approved

Essay On Conscription In The Vietnam War
Introduction In this project the subject being researched will be conscription in the Vietnam
War. During this particular war, many Australian men were conscripted into the national
servicemen and had to work in the army during the war. Many Australians were against the idea
of conscription and protested against it. Between late 1964 and December 1972 804,286 twenty
year olds registered for national service, 63,735 national servicemen served in the army and
15,381 served in Vietnam. Around 200 servicemen died in the war. Paragraph 1 The National
Servicemen were made up of men that were conscripted to work in the army. These men were 20
years old. Once a man had turned 20 they were liable to be chosen for the army. If someone was
chosen they were obligated to join. The national servicemen had to give two years continuous
full time service in the regular army. This was then followed by an extra three years on the
active reserves list. While the men were part of the two years full time service, they were liable to
be chosen for special overseas service. These special services included service in Vietnam.

Dubliners Dilemma Analysis
The Dubliners Dilemma is a one man show directed and performed by Declan Gorman. The
story was about an author James Joyce was having a hard time to publish his book Dubliners .
But later on there was Mr. Grant Richards an early potential publisher but quite nervous whether it
would be a threat to him and his firm or not since this book contents some sensitive information.
However, at the end he decided to give it a try after numerous rejections before and the book was
finally published in 1914.
Adaptations of Joyce s works and stage biographies of the writer abound, making it hard for a
writer to determine his effort and to create an appeal that will extend beyond tourist audiences or
Joyce aficionados. Gorman, a compelling performer, frames his Joyce a montage on the fraught
publishing battle that preceded the appearance of Dubliners in 1914. Most of the drama, however,
consists of nearly verbatim enactments of Joyce s texts of An Encounter , Counterparts , A
Mother and Two Gallants . Gorman enacts roles from that of the insufferable snob, Mrs. Kearney,
the eponymous mum of the latter story, to the little boys in the others. Set in the offices of Grant
Richards, Joyce s cautious but eventual publisher, Gorman as Richards, begins his correspondence
with the author in Eoghan Darcy and Edward Stevenson s clever, utilitarian set comprised of
stacks of folded cardboard boxes the size of reams of paper which function as office furniture.

result. When comparing this hypothetical journey to Mars to NASA s planned mission, the
orbital path is similar; however, the time to arrive is longer by about 52 days. Although not
exactly the same flight duration, the difference can be a result of the fact that Earth and Mars
orbits aren t perfect circles and have varying distances from each other which affect travel
distance and times. The difference in time can also stem from Kepler s Third Law: it only factors
in the semi major orbit and the effect of the sun s gravity to determine speed. However, there was
no way to factor in the speed of the rocket to see its affect on the time. In conclusion, the Hohmann
Transfer Orbit is the method of choice for spacecraft and offers reliable, albeit not 100 percent
accurate data of the time and changes in velocity for an interplanetary

Television And Behavioral Analysis
Television is one of the most widely used forms of communication today; it is used for broadcast
purposes on entertainment, education, and information to people from all around the world. There
are a number of different genres a person can choose to watch on television, all without taking a
step out of their front door. Criminal televisionshows classify as one of these genres and are one of
the most popular. Most of the time, the production of a criminal television show is where an author
examines an actual past crimeand then uses re enactments to help draw in their audience; some
common ones that are usually heard of, in the United States specifically, are CSI, Law Order,
Criminal Minds, NCIS, etc. As incorporated in the title, Criminal... Show more content on

It is said that the harshness and brutality of this genre is crossing the borderline and not giving
exact reenactments like it s supposedly assumed to. In fact, Georgia Hakin, in Artifice Magazine,
states that, The leader of the FBI s Behavioural Analysis Unit on Criminal Minds, Jason Gideon,
departed the show after season two for reasons revolving around familiarity of these dark
scenarios, a stance written to appear almost as art imitating life . This actor, Mandy Patinkin, had
complete access to seeing everything layed out before even put behind screen, but still felt that this
show was too dark and he should have taken into more thought on what he was getting himself
into. Instances arising out of this situation were negative comments on the content that was
showed in Criminal Minds specifically; some people saw it as too harsh and even sick. A few of
the substances that these remarks were made off of were things like rape, abduction, hostage,
torture, and the murdering of victims. The debate at hand is whether or not this material is civilized
enough for watchers to access.
Furthermore, it is pointed out that viewing violence and then later performing violent behavior has
been proven to have a high correlation. In order for people to acquire a knowledge of aggressive
behavior, they have to be exposed to it first. According to Steven F. Messner on JSTOR, ...residents
in communities with high levels of exposure to television violence might be less likely than those
in communities with lowers levels of exposure to report criminal incidents to the police. From past
researches, it was said that this is because of the possible fear and mistrust which is connected with

Gun Laws In Australia
This essay investigates the Australian gun laws and whether they are effective or not. In
particular, with a focus on what the current gun laws are and how they have or have not worked
also if they need to be updated. The current gun laws were first introduced by John Howard in
1997 after the mass shooting in Port Arthur where 35 people were killed and a further 18 injured
on the 28th of April, 1996 (Sharpe, 2016), the laws were them further improved in 2002, after the
Monash University shooting, where a commerce student with mental impairments came in to class
armed with 6 loaded handguns, 2 students died and an additional 5 were injured (ABC News,
2015). It has been almost 20 years since the introduction of the current gun laws, the essay... Show

For the first time since the introduction of the current gun laws Australia national number of
privately owned guns is higher than it was prior to the Port Arthur massacre. It is also important
to take into account that Australia s population has increased by almost 5 million in the last 20
years, this means that the per capita gun ownership is still 23 per cent lower than it was in 1996
(Alpers, 2016). In a survey by the author it was found that 90% of the respondents believe that the
gun laws affected Australia positively, the rest said they haven t affected Australia. It was
surprisingly found that no one said the gun laws had a negative effect on Australia, this could be
due to the lack of respondents as some citizens believe the gun laws have effected Australia
negatively, because they believe individuals need the right to bear arms and protect themselves

The Battle Of A Death Sentence
The spectators watched as the Goddess and the newcomer engaged. Listened to the metallic ring
of weapons clashing, the sounds of destruction and felt the bloodlust that emanated from the two
rapidly grow stronger. It filled the air, made the hairs on their arms and the back of their necks
rise. Each clash sent waves of power rippling through the entire arena, created gusts of winds strong
enough to knock them down. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity and very likely more
dangerous than any war they d ever fought. Just staying to witness the clashwas tantamount to a
death sentence. However, it was too entrancing to walk away from. They were warriors who

Yes. A true warrior had finally come. Her senses were alive and tingling with expectation of what

She shifted her body in the air so that her feet were aimed at the stands instead of her head. She
saw him whirling a chain above himself, she knew what he intended to do but she wouldn t make
it that easy. She watched as he threw the chain straight at her, with the slightest shift of her body
she kept it from ramming into her and instead grabbed the chain with one of her hands. A second

hard on the chain causing him to jerk forward slightly giving her, her opening. Immediately

Supreme Court Cases Against Homosexuals
In the United States, LGBT rights have been expanded by landmark U.S. Supreme Court
decisions. Between 1996 and 2015, the Supreme Court struck down sodomy laws, Section 3 of
the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), allowed protected class recognition based on
homosexuality and made same sex marriage legal on a federal level. Justice Kennedy played a
pivotal role in expanding the rights of gays and lesbians over the years through specific legal
rationale that insists upon protection of LGBT rights. On the other hand, Justice Scalia s dissenting
opinions oppose expanded constitutional protections for gays and lesbians. In order to understand
the evolution of LGBT rights, it is crucial to analyze the opinions from Romer v. Evans, Lawrence

Plessy v. Ferguson. Justice Kennedy finds issue with the Colorado state statute because it directly
discriminates against a person s sexual orientation, but does not protect the LGBT class.
Additionally, the statute reaches public accommodations which [did] not limit antidiscrimination
laws to groups that have so far been given the protection of heightened equal protection scrutiny .
Kennedy argues that this proves that this groups of citizens is denied equal protection because the
statute is general enough to impact a large variety of laws, which violates the Fourteenth

Fences by August Wilson Essay
In Fences, August Wilson introduces an African American family whose life is based around a
fence. In the dirt yard of the Maxson s house, many relationships come to blossom and wither here.
The main character, Troy Maxson, prevents anyone from intruding into his life by surrounding
himself around a literaland metaphorical fencethat affects his relationships with his wife, son, and
mortality.Throughout the play, readers see an incomplete fence which symbolizes Rose (Troy s
wife) and Troy s drifting relationship. Rose wants Troy and Cory to build a fence to keep her
loved ones protected. This is evident when Rose is seen singing the church hymn, Jesus, be a

Troy is entirely stubborn in his ways that he cannot see that times has changed. Since Troy was
fenced out from playing professional baseball, he fences Cory out of playing college football.
Troy and Cory s relationship resembles the fence by its purpose and physical attribution. When it
comes to sports, they are separated by the different generations, but they come together because
of their love of sports. Like a fence that is meant to separate outsiders, but connected to bring
together the fence. Troy and Cory s relationship continues to get pushed apart throughout the
play. In Act 2, Scene 4 Troy and Cory get into a fight which leads Troy to state to Cory that his
things will be on the other side of that fence. When Troy kicks Cory out onto the streets, the fence
becomes an actual division between both of them. The two spend a lot of time building the fence,
only for it to create a literal and emotional barrier. The fence becomes a representation of the barrier
that Troy tries to create between him and mortality. Troy has a fixation on Death. He talks about
how Death is an easy fastball on the outside corner (I. i). Troy always speaks about how he could
easily knock a baseball out of the park. Comparing Death to a fastball shows how Troy thinks that
he can continue to always keep Death on the other side of the fence because like a

Differences And Characteristics Of The French And Ottoman...
The French and Ottoman Empires were both similar and dissimilar. Using Fukuyama s three
categories of institutions one can compare and contrast the shared characteristics of the two
empires. Fukuyama argues that a modern liberal democracy needs a state, rule of law and
accountability. A state is a centralized authority that holds military power on a selected territory. It
is the armed forces that keep a nation safe on a domestic and foreign level. On the other hand, the
rule of law came about through written legislation. Thus, written rules, organize power in a system
no matter who is in power. This implies that a modern democracy must have legal institutions that
are superior to a ruler, the army and bureaucracy. Finally, political accountability comes through
accountable bodies like parliament s and assemblies that represent the people. In the end,
Fukuyama claims democracy is truly born when laws reflecting the people s desires are stronger
than individual rulers and elections are held. The Ottoman Empirehad many victories until its slow
decline at the end of the 16th century. Constantinople, the Byzantine capital falls to the Turks in
1453. In 1526, the Ottomans conquered Hungry in the Battle of Mohacs, but were pushed back in
1529 at Vienna. The Ottoman empire relied on a system of military slavery. Within the Ottoman
military, the Muslims were officers, and those who did not share the state religion made up the
backbone of the military.

The Theory Of Plate Tectonics And Continental Drift
The concept of plate tectonics is that the lithosphere, which is the higher layers of the Earth s
surface, is separated into a number of plates that float independently over the mantle and along the
boundaries that initiate the development of new crust, the building of mountains, and the seismic
movement that triggers earthquakes (Geosystems 340). Scientists have discovered that the
landforms and geographic regions we know and live on today were formed when plate tectonics
shift and create movement on the Earth, forming many land structures. In 1977 two scientists
created the most elaborate and detailed picture of the earth that has ever been designed, called the
Tharp Heezen map of the seafloor (National Geographic, PT). Because of this map, the theory of
plate tectonics and continental drift was accepted widely across the world and still known today.
A German geophysicist, Alfred Wegener, presented an idea in his book Origin of the Continents and
Oceans, evoking the topic of continental drift, which is the gradual movement of the continents
across the earth s surface through geological time. He named the large supercontinent Pangaea ,
meaning all Earth (Geosystems 340). The two types of tectonic plates are the oceanic and
continental plates. The plate s shift and slide over the asthenosphere, the molten upper portion of
the mantle. The two types of plates meet at the boundaries that cross our planet and since 71% of
the earth covered in water the majority of the

Description Of The Installation Police Received A Call...
At 13:45 EST on January 1st 20xx, the installation police received a call from Mr. X, a
supervisor at the gymnasium (also the location used for hosting redeployment ceremonies and
other functions). He reported that one of his workers Mr. Q, was in possession of a backpack
that he found unattended in the men s locker room. According to Mr. Q, he opened the bag out of
curiosity to find out if there is a name or any identification so that he can return it to the owner.
Mr. Q noticed an empty or dummy pipe bomb container inside the backpack. The supervisor
requested a patrol car and officer to be sent to the location. Officer A, was the first on the scene and
upon investigation and interview with the witness/worker determined that the package was a dud
/dummy. Officer A, was an Explosives Ordnance Soldier prior to joining the installation policeforce
and has extensive knowledge and experience with explosives. Officer A s assessment of the
situation was that, it could either be an expensive prank or a dry run for a future attack.
The installation police chief informed us of the situation, based off of Officer A s assessment,
knowledge and experience with explosives. Based on this tip from the installation police chief
together with other intelligence reports, there is a credible threat with indications of an imminent
attack, possibly involving the use of a crude pipe bomb for any type of CBRNE attack on the
installation. We do not have all the facts and although we will not

Taking a Look at Superconductors
In the sixties, Kulik had used the mechanism of Andreev reflection to explain how a metal carries
dissipation less current between two superconductors.
Andreev later discovered that an electron incident on a superconductor with energy lying within the
gap region gets reflected as a hole, which is the basic essence of Andreev reflection.
A charge of 2e is lost in the process which gets absorbed into the superconductor as a Cooper pairs.

The same process occurs for a hole as an incident particle; in this case, the reflected particle will be
an electron and the Cooper pair absorbed by the superconductor with be formed by two holes.

An important application of Andreev reflection is in the study of tunneling of Cooper pairs in a
Josephson Junction.
The transmission of Cooper pairs from one superconductor to another can be understood by
considering the reflection of an eletron and hole into each other at the boundaries of the two
superconductors.
This leads to conversion of normal current into dissipationless supercurrent. This supercurrent varies
sinusoidally with the phase difference of the two superconductors and attains a maximum at the
critical value of current which can flow through the junction.

If an external magnetic field is applied to the barrier region of the junction, it alters the phases of the
two superconductor, so that their net phase difference remains gauge invariant. As a consequence,
the current through the junction also gets modified in the

Averroes Research Paper
Medieval philosophy is the philosophy in the era referred to as the Middle Ages, the period
extending from the fall of the Western Roman Empire in the 5th century C.E. to the Renaissance
in the 16th century. It is defined partly by the process of rediscovering the ancient culture
developed in Greece and Rome in during classical period, and partly by the need to address
theological problems and to integrate sacred doctrine along with secular learning. The main topics
that were discussed throughout this period was the relation of faith to reason, the existence of God,
the purpose of theology and metaphysics, and the problems of knowledge, of universals, and of
individuation. One influential philosopher from this period is Averroes.

widely known in the West, with particular importance for the Medieval Scholastic movement

Western Europe. His most important philosophical work was Tahafut al tahafut ( The Incoherence
of the Incoherence ). In this work, he defended Aristotelian philosophy against the claims of al
Ghazali. Al Ghazali had argued that Aristotelianism, specifically as presented in the earlier writings
of Avicenna, was self contradictory and an affront to Islamic teachings. Averroes contended that al
Ghazali s arguments were false and that Avicenna s interpretations were a distortion of genuine

Argumentative Essay On Wolfdogs
A wolf dog hybrid is just what the name states: a cross between a wolf and a domesticated dog.
They are a breed that attempts to add a wild side to man s best friend. Imagine giving a belly rub to
a wolf, it sounds fun and exciting. However, seeing that they are part wild animal, wolfdogs create
a lot of problems. Many wolfdogs are dangerous and cause harm to their owners and end up either
being put down or badly abused. Would it be better for everyone if wolfdogs are not allowed as
pets or even bred in the first place?
As previously stated, wolf dog hybrids can be very dangerous. During a wolf s adolescence there
is a great increase in hormones, thus causing their wild animal instincts and behaviors to kick in.
Furthermore, physical and mental maturity happen at different rates for dogs and wolves, this
makes it hard to predict when a hybrid will come to that full maturity. Hybrids are known for being
unpredictable. In 2003, Koa, a 1ВЅ year old hybrid from Idaho, was euthanized after killing a 13
month old boy. Despite the fact that this was not Koa s first time injuring a child, it still came as a
shock since Koa was said to be good natured. When asked ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In 2000 the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a report on the different
breeds of dogs involved in fatal human attacks in the United States between 1979 and 1998.

while Pit Bulls and Rottweilers were involved in 122 of these deaths. Pit Bulls were involved in
22 American deaths in 2016 alone. It seems that hybrids aren t the big problem here. If other
breeds of dangerous dogs, such as Pit Bulls, are considered acceptable as pets, then why not
wolfdogs? Raising and owning a wolfdog is not for the inexperienced or faint hearted, however it
can be done. If cared for and trained properly, a hybrid could turn out to be an enjoyable

  • 2. Persuasive Essay On The Open Carry Law Ever since the president Donald J. Trump was elected, the country has been divided greatly due to racism just how it occurred in the 1950 s. In 1955, Rosa Parks, a black woman, was arrested because she refused to give up her seat on a bus to a white person. This event caused a great uproar amongst the Whites and the Blacks that lead into many civil right movements in which the Black peopleparticipated by protesting. For example, the incident that occurred on August 12 of this year with the an anti white supremacist group who was protesting in the same city as the white supremacist protesters. A random person drove their car into the crowd of the anti white supremacist protesters and ended up killing one woman and left dozen more seriously injured. To this incident, President Trump gave a press conference about the horrific act of the murder while stating that there were good and bad people on either side, justifying the act of the murder of running over the anti white supremacists. Sadly, while Trump remains in office, the country will not become less violent and people from different races will end up shooting each with or without the open carrylaw. California has become more violent over time, especially with President Trump in office. No one is safe in public and if the decision to open carry is reinstated, the law would be a much safer choice for anyone who wants to protect themselves and their loved ones. While some people may argue that guns are better ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Election Of The Parti Quebecois With the recent provincial election victory of the Parti QuГ©bГ©cois, the nation of Canada will encounter many upcoming challenges in a fierce battle that will ensue, sparked by the Parti QuГ©bГ©cois, in an attempt to achieve a sovereign Quebec. These challenges will require immediate and effective action on issues regarding the Parti QuГ©bГ©cois platform centering on the objective of achieving a sovereign Quebec. Canadian national unity is at risk and being challenged with the election of the Parti QuГ©bГ©cois and through the separatist movement gaining strength within Quebec. The election of the Parti QuГ©bГ©cois is an indisputable reality that demonstrates the emergence of the separatist movement progressing and gaining sway in Quebec. This poses an extremely dangerous threat to the nation of Canada, as national unity is at the forefront of present day Canadian issues and being pushed to the breaking point. The separation movement in Quebec is reaching drastic heights that have not been witnessed before throughout the history of Canada and I urge you, Mr. Pierre Elliott Trudeau, to act immediately via taking a number of suggested actions that will result in the satisfaction of the residents of Quebec. It is crucial to take immediate action to please the Parti QuГ©bГ©cois and citizens of Quebec simultaneously to ensure a unified Canada and in order to impede the separatist movement. Most notable among the many reasons for the Quebecois electing the Parti QuГ©bГ©cois to power is the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Essay Summer and Smoke Summer and Smoke Mr. Thomas Williams (Tennessee,) was born in Columbus, Mississippi to Cornelius Coffin and Edwina Dankin Williams, March 26 1911. Thomas family moves to Missouri in 1918, and between the years of 1929 and 1939 Tennessee attends three different universities. After having written his first Blanche DuBois scene, from A Streetcar named Desire, in December of 1944, he took a few months break and wrote his first draft of Summer and Smoke. As a result, the character Alma is seen having a parallel to Blanche. Also in the year 1937, Tennessee s sister Rose is institutionalized for schizophrenia. Typically patients with schizophrenia are at times progressive, at times intermediate and can regress at anytime. They also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Eventually, October 6, 1948, interestingly enough, the play opened before it was eventually published by New Directions on November 17, 1948. Also, Summer and Smoke was re written and published in 1965 under the new title: The Eccentricities of a Nightingale, which was eventually, by Dramatic Publishing s changed back to Summer and Smoke. Original scenic design was created by Jo Meizner, who had created a Skeletonized view of John s office, and an equally Victorian view on the right, and, in between the town square, presided over by the statue of a kneeling Angel (Bordman.) Original stars of the show included Todd Andrews, as John, and Katherine Balfour, as Alma. The production ran for only 100 performances, after being constantly compared to and eventually replaced by A Streetcar named Desire. Part of the reason why critics believe this show was so unsuccessful is because Margo Jones went about this blind eyed, and only had the guide of Tennessee when she went to visit him, they blame the poor outcome of this show on its poor staging and directing. The London premiere of Summer and smoke opened April of 1952, at Circle and Square Theater, starring Geraldine Paige and running for 356 performances, clearly this production was much better received than the opening production in New York. • 5. A Brief Note On The Primary Function Of Exec Lab 2 CSNB324 Muath Abdullah SN091649 Answer Q1: Execv(): it is a prototype of exec family, v is added to indicate the type of argument which in this case specified as a vector (array of character pointers). The primary function of exec () system call is to execute a file or a program. This is done by creating a new process image from a regular, executable file. This file is either an interpreter script or an executable file object. It has the form execv(char *path, char *argv[], char *envp[]). The path argument is the pathname of a file that contains the new program to be executed. The argv array is a list of parameter strings, and the envp array is a list of environment variable strings and values that should be used when the process begins executing the new programs. When a process encounters the execve() system call, the next instruction it executes will be the one at the entry point of the new executable file. Execvp() The created child process does not have to run the same program as the parent process does. The exec type system calls allow a process to run any program files, which include a binary executable or a shell script. On this page, we only discuss one such system call: execvp(). The execvp() system call requires two arguments: 1. The first argument is a character string that contains the name of a file to be executed. 2. The second argument is a pointer to an array of character strings. More precisely, its type is char **, which is exactly identical to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Latinx Feminist Theory The term feminism encapsulates a vast variety of topics important to women s rights. Unfortunately, feminist theory is often talked about within the restrictions of a reproductive binary. Latinx feminist theory is more than just a reproduction binary. As women of color, Latinx women have historically been undermined and excluded from social narratives. Latinx women however, challenge various forms of oppression, such as the perpetuations of sexism, racism, and violence, by sharing their testimonios to the world a vulnerable yet incredibly strong form of resistance. This specialized theory addresses many of the barriers that intersect and impact Latinx women on a daily and generational basis. Evident in my resistance poem, through the use... Similar to the reproductive justice theory s utilization of the Ubuntu philosophy, the belief in the universal bond of sharing that connects all humanity (201 RJT) Latinx feminist theory embraces unity as a direct path to the realization of the left world concept. • 8. Analysis Of Lurhman s Strictly Ballroom And Mitchell s... In Lurhman s Strictly Ballroom and Mitchell s It Follows, both directors use colour and music to enhance the experience of the romantic comedy and horror genre films. Where Mitchell uses audio and visual cues to break the conventional style of horror films in It Follows, Luhrman s Strictly Ballroom uses audio and visual cues enhance the romantic comedy experience further. Where It Follows, relies on visuals to tell it s story, Strictly Ballroom uses bright colors and musical cues to reassure the audience that the two main characters will end up together. In Mitchell s It Follows, he enlists the help of composer Vreeland to create music for his film. Traditionally a composer for video games, Vreeland s music consists of the 8 bit type music that is consistently found in Vreeland s main line of work. Whereas traditional horror films may carry orchestral music, Vreeland s music is synthesized and therefore stands out because of it. In combination with his composer s music, Mitchell also uses silence and natural ambience to further break the horror music stereotype. Where more popular horror films would use silence, darkness and loud sounds to help increase tension, Mitchell uses silence and music to do that instead. Vreeland s music, which mainly contains higher pitched music enhanced by low beats, is mainly used during key moments that involves the Follower. Barry, used rhetorical devices to inform the public of how science is about not knowing and figuring out how to prove the suggested idea. The scientists had to deal with uncertainty and manipulating results and experiments to prove their idea, just like Barry used rhetorical devices to manipulate the reader s ideas and thoughts. John M. Barry has written award winning books including the Influenza pandemic of 1918, and the great Mississippi flood. Being invited by 2 presidential administrations, Bush and Obama, to advise on preparedness for pandemics and pandemic response. • 10. The Reign Of The King From the reign of King John beginning in 1199 to the reign of Edward III ending in 1377, the role of kingship is slowly put in to question. Throughout this time period kings find that they now need to consult with a council in order rule successfully. This time period begins with an absolute monarchy, but the authority of the king is gradually limited. These changes slowly grow thought this time period while the authority of parliament increases. This time period also calls into question how the king is viewed, whether as a person or as an office. This essay will trace the political authority of the king and his growing limitations. Additionally, it will discuss the birth of parliament and its increase in political power not only as a whole, but also in relationship to the power of the king. It is within the reign of King John, where limitation of the king s power is called into play. These limitations will set the stage for the eventual formation of parliament and a lessening of the king s influence that future kings cannot ignore. However, with John, as opposed to these future kings, the changes are relatively ineffective, but will set incoming limitation to the king s power in motion. These events are triggered when war breaks out in France as of 1202 when the French King gives John s titles to Arthur, Duke of Brittany. John achieves a victory at Mirebeau, but as of 1204, he loses much of the northern empire. In 1214, after the loss at the Battle of Bouvines, John ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Chinese Imagined Community Essay The Chinese Canadian experience during the 19th and 20th centuries provides a classic example of history s role in the nation making process, the creation of an imagined community (Stanley 477). The anti Asian exclusion era (1880s to 1940s) in Canada played a pivotal role in the emergence of the Chinese identity. Benedict Anderson describes the imagined community as a community that is built through emotional ties with one another. Anderson states that the community is imagined because the members of even the smallest nation will never know most of their fellow members, meet them, or even hear of them, yet in the minds of each lives the image of their communion, (Anderson 1991). With this said, Chinese Canadians felt a strong... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This labour was in high demand because Canadian and American capitalists were eager to find the most inexpensive solution (Spencer 21). However, things changed when the white European population of Canada heard rumours that Chinese immigrants were taking over whole industries in California, such as the shoe making industry and cigar manufacturing industries (Spencer 22). Fear of continuous growth in Chinese labourers, the Canadian government implemented several anti Asian laws including the Chinese Head Tax of 1885 and the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1923. First these laws were intended to restrict the amount of Chinese immigrants coming into Canada, however eventually the laws were changed to stop Chinese immigration in its entirety. Laws that openly discriminated against Chinese immigrants led public opinion to see Chinese immigrants as an alien race that did not belong within Canada(Stanley 486). The Canadian press also played a huge role in marking Chinese immigrants as alien. In 1882, the Toronto based journal the Trades Union Advocate/Wage Worker noted, the Chinese are a vile race. It is recorded in one locality in China they recently destroyed 80 percent of their children...merely because they were girls, (Spencer 23). By depicting the Chinese as a vile race the Canadian population became disillusioned towards Chinese immigrants. These strong feelings of explicit racism and discrimination ... Overall, the film follows the whole plot very well and depicts the main characters of Euripides work expressly, especially characters like Cassandra, Andromache, and Helen. Although the director of the film has made a few slight alterations, audience can feel Trojan women s grief and pain and comprehend the plot with no trouble. The film and the ancient play have some minor disparities. First, in the beginning, the play starts with the conversation between Poseidon and Athena. Poseidon describes the aftermath of the war and the bleak scene, giving out a background story. Then, Athena has changed her mind and switched to the Trojan side. In contract, there is no god involved and appeared in the movie. Poseidon s and Athena s role is taken by a narrator. The scene of women being pushed is enough to show to the audience the background. Second, the chorus only sings once in the film, mostly just speaking, while the chorus in the play sings in between every act. The chorus is used to switch to the next act and to tell the background. However, the film is quite fluent without excess singings of the chorus, because the movie is easy to change the location, time, and setting smoothly. The fire is the most important symbolbecause it emphasizes the importance of hope and rescue on the island, and how it can prevail even through the bos savage nature. On an island with no hope and seemingly no escape, the fire provides and symbolizes hope and rescue to escape the island. When Ralph is rallying the boys in the assembly, his main priority to the boys is that [they] must make smoke on the top of the mountain, [they] must make a fire (38). At this point in the story, Ralph has already been established as the leader, so his priority is very powerful to the boys on the island, to which they run to the mountain and attempt to create the signal fire. This quote is also important because it establishes the symbol of fire to be a beacon of hope and rescue for the boys, which is essential if they want to escape the island alive. ... • 34. Stereotypes And Film Stereotypes Stereotypes and Films This week, in Chapter 5 The Perceptual Context, we covered stereotypes. Stereotypes typically refer to membership in social categories such as sex, race, age, or profession, that are believed to be associated with certain traits and behaviors, as noted by Neuliep (2015). Stereotypes can often stem from an individual s own perception and form one s cultural upbringing. The film I am covering, as it relates to stereotypes is Think Like a Man. Today, white expectation that African Americans will not be able to make it on their own is a racist message, a self fulfilling prophecy which suggests that the latter lack the cultural and ethical requisites (the work ethic, commitment, integrity, etc.) likely to help them climb the socioeconomic pyramid. The stereotype displayed in this scene is that African Americans think all Caucasians has excellent credit. The black guys assumed that the white guy s black girlfriend is with him, because of his great credit status and financial privileges and the one of the white guys seemingly agreed. I think this originated from the history of most Caucasians had great finances and wealth, which in turn gave them the ability to buy more and pay for more things. I believe that the assumption begun from poor African Americans, as many saw Caucasians as privileged many years ago. I think today this stereotype is wrong, I believe all race has good and bad credit ratings. The fact that this is or was a stereotype of Caucasians this confirms that stereotyping is cultural. Indeed, cultural approach to stereotyping emphasizes that stereotypes are learned, maintained, and potentially changed through the language and communication a culture as stated by MaCrae et al., (1996). • 36. Philosophical And Scientific Pointers To Creatio On philosophical and Scientific Pointers to Creatio Ex Nihilo Where did our universe come from? It is one of the most fascinating questions that we can think about. One thing that makes this question so interesting is the fact that there are only two possible answers; God, or some other being like Godcreated our universe, or a natural process created our universe, but which is it? Did God or Nature create the universe that we live in? All those questions need a deep breath and good analysis to find the answer. On William Lane Craig s Philosophical and Scientific Pointers to Creatio Ex Nihilo, Craig has an amazing argument about the beginning of the universe. Craig supported his idea, which is the universe has a beginning, by a series of premises. The first one is that an actual infinite cannot exist, the second one is that a beginningless series of events in time is an actual infinite, and the last one is that a beginningless... Craig started his series of supporting by saying that an actual infinite cannot exist, the meaning of the term actual infinite is crucial toward the understanding of this argument. An actual infinite means that nothing further may be added or subtracted. One of the unique traits of an actual infinite is that part of the set is equal to the whole set. For instance, in an actually infinite set of numbers, the number of even numbers in the set is equal to all of the numbers in the set. This follows because an infinite set of numbers contains an infinite number of even numbers as well as an infinite number of all numbers. By contrast, a potential infinite is a set of things that can be added to without ever reaching infinity. Such a set may be ever increasing without limit yet is at all times finite. Dante, the poet that writes about heaven claims that, I have been in that Heaven of his most light and what I saw, those who descend from there lack both the knowledge and the power to write (1.596.3 6). Although Dante s Paradiso includes resemblances to the biblical Heaven, his folk lore filled piece is a flawed and an inaccurate representation of Heaven. A misconception found throughout Dante s Paradiso is that there are different levels of Heaven dedicated to the amount of good deeds, faithfulness, and prayer one performs during their life. Dystopian Literature is intriguing as it exposes the reader to sometimes unconventional concepts and can also serve as a warning to what may become of society if the wrong path is chosen. In literary works of Brave New World, there are many warnings that the author Aldous Huxleyestablishes through events that take place in the civilized world. In this dystopian society we can observe that science is the thriving fragment that holds society together but it seems to demoralize and mitigate human morals and values. It is also apparent that love and family are non existent in this society as sex is meaningless and having a baby is considered a big shame. Some literature such as the works of Shakespeare and holy books are banned in society in order eliminate outbursts from people who become too curious and possess a threat to social stability. Science is important and beneficial to any thriving society. In this dystopian society science is what keeps it together and functioning the way that the world controllers would would like it to be. The story was about an author James Joyce was having a hard time to publish his book Dubliners . But later on there was Mr. Grant Richards an early potential publisher but quite nervous whether it would be a threat to him and his firm or not since this book contents some sensitive information. However, at the end he decided to give it a try after numerous rejections before and the book was finally published in 1914. Adaptations of Joyce s works and stage biographies of the writer abound, making it hard for a writer to determine his effort and to create an appeal that will extend beyond tourist audiences or Joyce aficionados. Gorman, a compelling performer, frames his Joyce a montage on the fraught publishing battle that preceded the appearance of Dubliners in 1914. Most of the drama, however, consists of nearly verbatim enactments of Joyce s texts of An Encounter , Counterparts , A Mother and Two Gallants . Gorman enacts roles from that of the insufferable snob, Mrs. Kearney, the eponymous mum of the latter story, to the little boys in the others. Set in the offices of Grant Richards, Joyce s cautious but eventual publisher, Gorman as Richards, begins his correspondence with the author in Eoghan Darcy and Edward Stevenson s clever, utilitarian set comprised of stacks of folded cardboard boxes the size of reams of paper which function as office furniture. Using Fukuyama s three categories of institutions one can compare and contrast the shared characteristics of the two empires. Fukuyama argues that a modern liberal democracy needs a state, rule of law and accountability. A state is a centralized authority that holds military power on a selected territory. It is the armed forces that keep a nation safe on a domestic and foreign level. On the other hand, the rule of law came about through written legislation. Thus, written rules, organize power in a system no matter who is in power. This implies that a modern democracy must have legal institutions that are superior to a ruler, the army and bureaucracy. Finally, political accountability comes through accountable bodies like parliament s and assemblies that represent the people. In the end, Fukuyama claims democracy is truly born when laws reflecting the people s desires are stronger than individual rulers and elections are held. The Ottoman Empirehad many victories until its slow decline at the end of the 16th century. Constantinople, the Byzantine capital falls to the Turks in 1453. • 50. The Theory Of Plate Tectonics And Continental Drift The concept of plate tectonics is that the lithosphere, which is the higher layers of the Earth s surface, is separated into a number of plates that float independently over the mantle and along the boundaries that initiate the development of new crust, the building of mountains, and the seismic movement that triggers earthquakes (Geosystems 340). Scientists have discovered that the landforms and geographic regions we know and live on today were formed when plate tectonics shift and create movement on the Earth, forming many land structures. In 1977 two scientists created the most elaborate and detailed picture of the earth that has ever been designed, called the Tharp Heezen map of the seafloor (National Geographic, PT). Because of this map, the theory of plate tectonics and continental drift was accepted widely across the world and still known today. A German geophysicist, Alfred Wegener, presented an idea in his book Origin of the Continents and Oceans, evoking the topic of continental drift, which is the gradual movement of the continents across the earth s surface through geological time. He named the large supercontinent Pangaea , meaning all Earth (Geosystems 340). The two types of tectonic plates are the oceanic and continental plates. • 52. Taking a Look at Superconductors In the sixties, Kulik had used the mechanism of Andreev reflection to explain how a metal carries dissipation less current between two superconductors. Andreev later discovered that an electron incident on a superconductor with energy lying within the gap region gets reflected as a hole, which is the basic essence of Andreev reflection. A charge of 2e is lost in the process which gets absorbed into the superconductor as a Cooper pairs. The same process occurs for a hole as an incident particle; in this case, the reflected particle will be an electron and the Cooper pair absorbed by the superconductor with be formed by two holes. An important application of Andreev reflection is in the study of tunneling of Cooper pairs in a Josephson Junction. The transmission of Cooper pairs from one superconductor to another can be understood by considering the reflection of an eletron and hole into each other at the boundaries of the two superconductors. This leads to conversion of normal current into dissipationless supercurrent. This supercurrent varies sinusoidally with the phase difference of the two superconductors and attains a maximum at the critical value of current which can flow through the junction. If an external magnetic field is applied to the barrier region of the junction, it alters the phases of the two superconductor, so that their net phase difference remains gauge invariant. It was through the Latin translations of Averroes work that the legacy of Aristotle became more widely known in the West, with particular importance for the Medieval Scholastic movement (philosophy basics). Averroes also argued for the emancipation of science and philosophy from official Ash ari Muslim theology, and some regard him as a precursor to modern secularism in Western Europe. His most important philosophical work was Tahafut al tahafut ( The Incoherence of the Incoherence ). In this work, he defended Aristotelian philosophy against the claims of al Ghazali. • 56. Argumentative Essay On Wolfdogs A wolf dog hybrid is just what the name states: a cross between a wolf and a domesticated dog. They are a breed that attempts to add a wild side to man s best friend. Imagine giving a belly rub to a wolf, it sounds fun and exciting. However, seeing that they are part wild animal, wolfdogs create a lot of problems. Many wolfdogs are dangerous and cause harm to their owners and end up either being put down or badly abused. Would it be better for everyone if wolfdogs are not allowed as pets or even bred in the first place? As previously stated, wolf dog hybrids can be very dangerous. During a wolf s adolescence there is a great increase in hormones, thus causing their wild animal instincts and behaviors to kick in. Raising and owning a wolfdog is not for the inexperienced or faint hearted, however it can be done. If cared for and trained properly, a hybrid could turn out to be an enjoyable ...
