A Brief Note On Unmanned Aerial Vehicles ( Uavs )
Review of Literature As they are advancing, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) increasingly use
battery technology coupled with electric motors to supply energy, as opposed to fossil fuel combustion
engines (Floreano Wood, 2015). However, general development associated with UAVs sees the
simultaneous processes of advancement of UAV operated tasks in terms of complication and required
time and relative stagnation of the battery technology that must be used to power the UAVs in such
tasks (Floreano Wood, 2015). The goal of a battery system in general is to maximize energy capacity
and to minimize the total cell mass necessary to facilitate a given quantity of the former and
researchers are at a standstill when the most energy dense material available, lithium, cannot be
utilized in its elemental form and reacts violently with many cathode materials (Hossain, 1995;
Murata, Izuchi, Yoshihasa, 2000). The literature will hereinafter be organized in its relation to:
1. The interaction of battery systems with UAVs
2. The mechanisms of a lithium ion cell
3. The development of solid polymer electrolytes for batteries
4. Peukert s Law and its application to lithium polymer technology
These four concepts together will cover the groundwork for studying the electrochemistry of and
creating a mathematical model for a lithium ion battery used in an unmanned aerial vehicle.
The Interaction of Battery Systems with UAVs A battery system, as an integral part of the UAV, must
be capable

City Of Thieves Chapter Summary
City of Thieves Chapter Summaries Chapter One Chapter One introduces us to Lev Beniov, the
seventeen year old commander of a firefighter brigade in the Kirov an apartment complex in the
besieged city of Leningrad during the winter of 1941. The initial pages focus on Lev s idealism and
naïveté when he refuses to flee the city with his mother and his sister, Taisya. Ironically, the
supposedly safe city of Vyazma to which his mother and sister flee is taken by the Nazis in October.
Lev and the other members of the brigade Vera Osipovna, and the Antokolsky twins, Grisha and Oleg
spend the night of New Year s Eve 1941 eating an onion soaked in safflower oil and identifying the
various German aircraft that pass overhead. Vera spots a dead German paratrooper descending from
the sky and, lured by the prospect of German chocolate, the four decide to break curfew and rush
down into Voinova Street to loot the body despite the fact that the punishment for ... Show more

He believes himself well suited to wartime, musing that his scrawniness prior to the siege made him
better suited to the starvation and lack he would experience during it. By the second chapter, however,
he has begun to abandon his belief in his self sufficiency. He berates himself for being unable to
handle a single night in the Crosses without panic and despair and goes so far as to say he will never
be a great Russian like his many idols who endured long prison sentences. In Chapter Three, Lev
thoroughly succumbs to his belief in his lack of courage. Benioff sets up the existence of his secret
knife at the end of Chapter Two, thereby hinting that it might be a means of escape later on. The next
time it is mentioned, however, Lev relinquishes it to the Colonel, effectively abandoning any attempt
at a heroic break for

Melissa Mccarthy In Mccarthy s Films
The Melissa McCarthy train keeps churning as the immensely talented breakout actress has now fully
shed that interim tag and officially become the queen of the comedy genre. Comparable to Bill Murray
or Chris Farley in their heydays, McCarthy is not only the queen of her respective genre, but also the
king, the dictator, and whatever other high standing position you can think of. True, not all of
McCarthy s films are memorable (especially Tammy and Identity Theft), yet tremendous
performances in films that include Spy, Bridesmaids, and The Heat, easily subdue and negate the less
than stellar performances. But, where does her latest role in the R Rated comedy, The Boss, sit on her
ever growing résumé? In the Boss, directed by Ben Falcone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

But, don t look to either one for humor as Bell, who doesn t appear to have a humorous bone in her
body, portrays the serious mother, all the while Dinklage plays a seemingly dry, obsessive ex lover of
Michelle.
To a degree, the vast majority of McCarthy s roles are silly but at least most of them have substance
and purpose. The Boss, written by McCarthy and her husband (and director), Ben Falcone, is
completely devoid of a meaningful plot, though relying far too much on petty, showboating antics (the
opening sequence is a perfect example) that obviously attempt to sugarcoat the fact that there is
absolutely no point to this story, whatsoever.
Again, when you re having little girls brawl on the street a scene which mimics something straight out
of an Anchorman film (minus the cameos), it s basically waving a sign of desperation to those
watching. Plus, it doesn t help the cause when your lead character is horribly unlikable person (I
wonder if Michelle was based on Donald Trump?). Michelle is a wealthy degenerate that loses her
fortune, yet it s hard to care if she ever recoups it or if she finds the warm embrace that was absent
from her

Cause And Effect Essay About Stress
Have you ever wondered why you had a major breakout of acne on your face last week? That incident
could be very likely caused a great deal of stress. Stress is a physical response that many people deal
with due to an overload of tension or straining. Stress is the body s response to specific situations, and
it affects a countless amount of people to this day. There are ways of dealing with stress and ways of
preventing it too. Stress is part of everyday life, and it is meant to be managed so that people can
remain happy and healthy. There are numerous things to know about stress and what exactly it is.
Stress is originally a response from the body when the body is feeling attacked. When a person is
under stress, the body will switch into a fight or flight type of mode. When the body goes into flight or
fight mode, it responds by releasing a mix of a variety of hormones and chemicals. Some of the
chemicals that the body may release include adrenaline, cortisol, and norepinephrine. These types of
hormones and chemicals are released in the intention of trying to prepare the body for physical action
to the stress that it is undergoing. The hormones and chemicals are released to respond to the situation
that the person is being accustomed to. The situation represents the stress that the person is dealing
with at that point in time. There are a variety of different types of stress that a person may experience,
and not all stress is necessarily bad to experience. One of the types of stress is called acute stress. This
type of stress is usually the most common that is dealt with today. This type of stress is as common as
a person brushing their teeth everyday. Acute stress takes place when the body reacts to a new
challenge, event, or demand. When this type of stress is being taken place, it will trigger the body to
go into fight or flight mode . Some examples that may be the cause of this type of stress may include
things like a fight with a close relative, pushing off homework to the very last minute, or waiting for a
letter to see if you got accepted to your dream college. Acute stress is not always necessarily bad or
considered negative . A person can also experience acute from things like

James Halliday s Ready Player One
Throughout Ready Player One, small keys are shown to have great importance. Firstly, there are the
three keys that a player must find to acquire the egg. Secondly, there are small items and bits of
knowledge that prove to be immaterial keys necessary to complete the task. One such item greatly
stands out in the challenge Wade faces: the quarter. Most readers would forget about this little,
ordinary object, but at the end of the novel, it is known how vital this quarter really was. In addition to
being an important aspect in the conclusion of Ready Player One and Wade s ultimate victory, the
quarter appears to have a mysterious religious connection. To obtain this quarter, Wade goes through a
long and grueling task of playing a perfect game of Pac Man on a special machine. He found this old
Pac Man machine on Archaide, a planet with a museum of James Halliday s awards and classic video
games, while looking for clues to find the next key. Right away, Wade realizes that this game is an egg
within OASIS, just not Halliday s egg, because of the strange, unmovable quarter placed on top of the
machine and the fact that machine said it was out of order when it actually worked fine. At ... Show

movies, and other pop culture that goes with the task. James Halliday is his god, the one who Wade
follows and believes is the most important being. He trusts everything he says and hopes to be like
him one day. It is also apparent that Anorak s Almanac is his bible as Wade directly says that the
Almanac had become my bible (61). Not only did he constantly read it, but he could also quote many
passages, just like Christians can quote Bible verses. These three primary connections show that
although Wade does not like religion, he has created his own that many people in the OASIS also

Argumentative Speech On Fast Food
My fellow citizens, as Americans, we proudly call ourselves the greatest nation in the world the
pioneers and forward thinkers of the western civilization. So I ask you, why are we the second most
overweight nation in the world? This is a raging epidemic which has caused one 1/3 of us to be
overweight and further 35% of us to plunge into obesity! It is damaging both our economy and more
importantly our wellbeing. Approximately $190 billion is spent in extra obesity related medical
expenses per year within America. It s not just us; it s affecting our children, the next generation of
pioneers and forward thinkers, the children of America. 7% of American children are already obese! I
am here today to propose the idea of banning the fast food production industry. ... Show more content

Is it the temptation of the shortcuts that modern technology can provide to make life so efficient and
easy? Yes. But I believe that the driving force behind obesity in America today is the fast food
production industry. We are faced with a country whereby the adults of Mississippi cannot manage to
eat even 1 piece fruit per day; it s not surprising that they are the most overweight state in America. In
North Dakota, there are 0.85 McDonalds per thousand residents and, unsurprisingly, they have a 31%
obesity rate, however in Utah, where the obesity rate is only 24.1%, and they have the lowest high
school obesity rate at 6.1%, there is just half a McDonalds per every thousand resident. There is a
clear correlation showing. As the fast food industry has become bigger, so have we. In 1972, we spent
3 billion a year on fast food today we spend more than $110 billion. In every single state, the obesity
rate has risen drastically in this same time

What Were The Weaknesses Of The Nazi Party
The Nazi party went from being an unpopular political group in 1919 to being the most powerful
political party in Germany by 1932. The reason for this are the weaknesses in the Weimar constitution,
the 1918 Armistice, the 1923 crisis, the Treaty of Versailles and The Great Depression. Hitler s
personality was also very important to the Nazi s success. He was very arrogant since his early days
and he never took a no for an answer. He also was the type of the person who never gave up even and
even if it did not work out he blamed others. All these reasons helped the Nazis rasie to power.
There was also the Armistice in 1918. This was signed along the Treaty of Versailles when the
Ludendorff told the new government that the war was hopeless and requested immediate ceasefire.

This helped the Nazi party because the Germans were furious about this. Germany has always had a
very strong army and the Germans were very proud of it. Germany lost 13% of their European
territory and one tenth of Germany s people. Apart from that she also lost all of her colonies. This
helped Hitler and the Nazis because all this made the German people angry and Germans wanted to be
in Germany, not some other country. This also shows how Hitler used the German s self determination
and their nationalistic feelings for the growth of his party. The people of Germany were also angry at
the government for signing the Treaty of Versaille and they were looking for a more extremist party
which was like the old kaiser government they all trusted. Anton Drexler and Hitler had made the
twenty five which boosted their support. The twenty five points made it clear that if the Nazi party
came to power they will stop the reparation and they will not follow the treaty of versaille. He also
appealed to all types of people in

Banning Books In Schools
Catchy Title
As a teen, students should not be exposed to the inappropriateness that are put in books at such a
young age. There are several reasons that banned books should be kept out of the classrooms. A few
specifically are, racial issues, inappropriate language and sexual profanity. Some people believe books
should be banned in schools/libraries because it is putting inappropriate knowledge in at such a young
age.
First, Racial Issues is a main conflict going around across the world, we never thought it would come
down to being in children s books. For example, To Kill A Mockingbird uses the N word directly (Lee
108). Students with different races should not have to experience those kinds of things in books they
are reading in school. It offends people with race. To Kill A Mockingbird also states racial groups(Lee
109). Books children read in schools should not state racial groups directly. It can upset people with
race. Students will easily be offended by this kind of stuff.
Also, Inappropriate Language is used immensely throughout kids books. Exposing inappropriate
language into kids heads at such a young age. Therefore, Without parental permission students should
not be able to read this stuff. Students read it and than think that it is ok to say. To Kill A Mockingbird
and several other children ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

think it is ok to do. This is putting bad images in kids head. Kids should not have to see or read that
kind of stuff. They sometimes do not even know what is going on so what s the point in putting it.
Sexual profanity is something kids already think it is ok to do, it is just making it

Slavery And Canadian Identity
I think when Canada stopped slavery first it shows that Canada new everyone should be treated fairly
and everyone should have equal rights. Also this shows that Canada has pride for the people living in
Canada. If Canada had not stopped slavery first than the population in Canada would be low and also
Canada won t look like a good place for people to live in because of the time. That is why this event
really contributes to Canadian identity.
I think when Chinese immigrants were hoping to find a new life in Canada it contributes to the
Canadian identity because they thought that Canada is a great place to live in and they were willing to
be welcome in Canada because they were hoping to have a better life. When they got here, they

Employee Retention Culture
Despite fluctuating economic times and increased globalization of American jobs, most employers are
finding it hard to keep good workers. The reality of today s job market is that workers are expecting
more from their employers and are not afraid to move on if their needs are not met by your
organization.
Based on compelling data from the Society for Human Resource Management and others who study
workforce trends, leading organizations must take time to analyze their retention realities and ensure
that the valuable employees they currently have are not seeking greener pastures.
How do great organizations maintain low levels of turnover and high levels of employee satisfaction?
The answer is found in one word: culture.
Organizations with high rates of employee retention concentrate on creating four distinct cultures that
keep people focused on the organization and its goals. The purpose of this article is to explore these
four cultures and to recommend practical strategies for developing these cultures in your workplace.
Effective retention cultures include an intense focus on choice, balance, development and care.
The Culture of Choice
Donald N. Smith, the president of Burger King said, The individual choice of garnishment of a burger

High rates of retention are clearly linked to the amount of attention the employee gets in terms of their
professional development and growth. When employees feel that their career goals have been
acknowledged and that they are continuing to be challenged on the job, they are likely to stick around.
Employees who feel stagnated, ignored, or bored will likely start to look for other opportunities. So
how do great organizations create cultures of

Mental Deterioration Of Alzheimer s Disease
I want to tell you how much I miss my mother. Bits of her are still there. I miss her most when I m
sitting across from her, (Crowley, Candy. October 21st, 2014). This quote refers specifically to
Alzheimer s, which is defined as progressive mental deterioration that can occur in middle or old age,
due to generalized degeneration of the brain. It is the most common cause of premature senility.
However, Alzheimer s is merely only a form of many debilitating diseases under the umbrella of
Dementia, defined as a chronic or persistent disorder of the mental processes caused by brain disease
or injury and marked by memory disorders, personality changes, and impaired reasoning. Some
examples of these disorders include: Vascular dementia, Frontotemporal dementia (Pick s disease),
Creutzfeldt Jakob disease, and of course as was previously for mentioned, Alzheimer s disease. Each
form of dementia will be discussed in depth including their symptoms, treatments, and their histories.
Vascular dementia is a decline in thinking skills caused by conditions that block or reduce blood flow
to the brain, depriving brain cells of vital oxygen and nutrients. Conditions that can block blood flow
to the brain are generally transient ischemic attacks (TIA s) or strokes. When these occur, often major
brain blood vessels are damaged and blocked causing effects on personality, ways of thinking and
problem solving, and generally can coexist with changes linked with other types of dementia.

Portrayal Of Women In Miss Representation
Miss Representation (2011) criticizes the media conglomerate s portrayal of women in film and the
disproportionate amount of women involved in the industry. Whether we accept it or not, media
consumption heavily influences our daily behavior and societal norms. When Hollywood casts women
in a monochromatic light, often sexualizing them for sensationalism, it is hard for women to envision
themselves in roles other than those portrayed and even harder for men to acknowledge women as
complex individuals greater than their film presence. By grouping common media portrayals of
women, Miss Representation emphasizes the lack of versatile of roles for women. Although 50.8% of
the population is comprised of women, the documentary cites only 16% female protagonists in film
that depict one of three generic, superficial, and stereotypical roles: the career driven boss, the sex
object, and the hopeless romantic. The career driven boss is typified as solely career oriented. She
sacrifices her family, friends, and even sometimes her own happiness for the sake of her job. The
entire plot revolves around diminishing her accomplishments in a patriarchal world that only perceives
her as bitchy. A prime example of this role would be Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly in the Devil
Wears Prada. The next role, more dehumanizing than the last, is the sex object characterization that
seeks only to use women as body props or eye candy. While these women may appear to be
empowered in the beginning

Letter no.15: Trade in Quebec City; general trade of the country and of his majesty s domain
The letter titled Trade in Quebec City: general trade of the country and of his Majesty s domain was
written in year 1709. It was the time when British rulers were trying to attain the profit as much as
they can on north America, before the control of British rulers it was a colony of French as the author
stated the entire colony is granted as seigneuries and as the custom of Paris is observed here (father
Antoine Silvy 97). The reason stated to write this letter was to pass information regarding trade
between Quebec and other cities to the Majesty the king of England. The exchange in goods were
between various states, such as America, French, British and several more. The author wrote this letter

The Politics of Highly Radioactive Waste Disposal Essay
The Politics of Highly Radioactive Waste Disposal
Nuclear waste disposal is a political problem, not a technical problem.1
Dr. Edward Teller
Highly radioactive waste disposal has become one of the most controversial aspects of nuclear
technology. As the amount of spent nuclear fuel from commercial nuclear reactors and high level
radioactive waste from defense related processing plants has continued to mount, the issue has become
increasingly contentious and politicized.2 The politicization of this issue is especially evident in the
site selection process of a permanent national repository for the disposal of highly radioactive waste.
Paradoxically, as the need for action has become more acute, the conflict generated by ... Show more

The following year, after environmental impact assessments were conducted by DOE, the list was
narrowed to five potential locations (Richton Dome, Mississippi; Yucca Mountain, Nevada; Deaf
Smith County, Texas; Davis Canyon, Utah; and, Hanford, Washington).5 Finally, in 1986, DOE
narrowed the field to three sites: Yucca Mountain, Nevada; Deaf Smith County, Texas; and Hanford,
Washington. The fact that each of these locations had a prior involvement with nuclear technology
probably contributed to their selection since DOE likely concluded that any opposition to establishing
a radioactive waste repository would be muted.6 The site selection process in the East was even more
difficult. As Michael Kraft, Professor of Environmental Studies, points out:
Controversies similar to those in the West emerged during the second siting process in the East. In
January 1986, DOE announced that 12 locations in seven states in the upper Midwest and East had
been selected from its original list of 235 potential sites in seventeen states. Once again DOE defended
its choices in terms of the official siting guidelines....That process led to a proposal to study further the
final sites in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Maine, New Hampshire, Virginia, Georgia, and North
Carolina....Intense public opposition and fears of political repercussions in an election year led the

An alternative approach of affinity chromatography with extremely significant results is dye ligand
affinity chromatography. In this type of affinity chromatography, dyes compose the group of ligands
than are employed in the technique (Hage et al., 2012).
The initial motivation for scientists to investigate more about dye ligand affinity chromatography was
given after the interactions that took place between Blue Dextran, a Cibaron Blue and dextran
conjugate, which is used as a void marker in size exclusion chromatography, and particular kinases.
Until then, only purification of various proteins by size exclusion chromatography with Blue Dextran,

Sulfonic acid groups are responsible for molecules in order to be soluble enough in aqueous media.
Another crucial characteristic is the negative charge of these groups at all pH values. Carboxyl, amino,

The most popular dyes used for the purification of proteins are triazinyl based reactive dyes. The
synthesis procedure is mainly based on Cyanuric chloride or (1,3,5 trichloro sym triazine). In
particular, the fact that electronegative atoms are present is the reason for the three carbon atoms to be
characterized as extremely positive, and as a result they are very sensitive to nucleophilic attacks. The
attachment of chromophore molecules to this is extremely simple and so dichlorotriazinyl dyes can be
also formed (Denizli and Pişkin, 2001).
A characteristic example of this category of dyes is the Procion MX series (from Imperial Chemical
Industries). These series can also react later with aniline, sulfanilates or other nucleophilic substituents
in order to produce monochlorotriazinyl dyes like for example Cibacron (from Ciba Geigy) or Procion
H (from ICI).The exact position of the sulfonate group on the aniline ring is the main characteristic
that helps scientists to distinguish the two series, as in Procion H series it

The Ultimate Change In The Ultimate Change
Ultimate Change
O. Henry s short story, A Retrieved Reformation, shows a man s journey through rehabilitation. In the
story, Jimmy Valentine is in jail for robbery. He is then allowed to leave in hope he has finally learned
from his past mistakes, and will stop robbing people to get what he desires. When Jimmy leaves, he
robs many more banks, but does not get caught. Jimmy then goes to a small town so the cops will not
be able to find him, and the town has a train station for him to make a quick getaway. When Jimmy
first arrives to the town, he sees a woman named Annabel Adams and everything changes. He knows
she will not like him if he keeps acting like his old self. Therefore, he decides he will finally change
for the better. He changes his name to Ralph Spencer and starts acting different. This short story
demonstrates change and how you affect people every day whether you realize it or not. At the
beginning of the coming of age story, when Jimmy gets let out of jail, we see how Jimmy has not
changed and he had went back to his old ways. To show this, the author explains multiple robberies
that happened within weeks of each other. Then, Ben Price, the detective trying to find who has been
robbing the banks, realized it was Jimmy Valentine who was back to his old ways. To show this, the
author wrote, Ben Price knew Jimmy s habits. He had learned them while working on the Springfield
case. Long jumps, quick get aways, no confederates, and a taste for good society

Why Is Rock N Roll So Popular
he music we today call rock n roll is a huge icon of the 50 s era. Emerging onto the music scene with
legends such as Elvis Presley in its wake. This is where it all started. After WWII, a quarter of
Americans moved. This gave urban music a new southern, sacred sound. This music started and found
it s roots in places such as Memphis, New York, Detroit, Baltimore, and many other places. This new
sound was, as historian Charlie Gillett said, The sound of the city. Rock N Roll combined the styles of
country, R B, gospel and the blues. Part of the social aspect of why this new music sound was so
popular, is the young audiences that were firsthand exposed to it. Many critics of the time were
dismissing rock as simply too crude and raw to ever make it big. But most realized their mistakes
when musicians such as Chuck Berry and Little Richard were starting to make it onto the radio
airwaves. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their sound mixed country, R B, and Rock N Roll with their English pop roots. A new wave of folk
bands emerged, which found the rock style as a new haven. Folk Musicians such as Bob Dylan started
to carry around loud bands and electric guitars, incorporating this into their own sound. As bands from
the suburbs started to join together and write their own material, the lyrics of the 1960 s Rock started
to change as well. Many bands addressed subjects that weren t always talked about, such as politics,

Marie Laure And Siddhartha
There are many novels written with different experiences included into each one making them unique,
but when one breaks down the novels one can realize how there may be different adventures, but there
really is only one story. Joseph Campbell s Monomyth cycle is used to compare stories and outline
how similar two different novels can be; in Hesse s Siddhartha and Anthony Doerr s All the Light We
Cannot See, the three main stages of the monomyth cycle and different themes throughout the novel

Siddhartha and All the Light We Cannot See as Siddhartha and Marie Laure are looking for adventure
and their relationships with their fathers are shown strongly with a lot of support. In both, the son or

as well. The fathers must let go of their son or daughter to find their own way in the world, even
against their own better judgement.
After the hero leaves the separation stage, they enter the initiation stage where they may act a certain

Leister to increase Baldwin s purchasing, inventorying, and production costs over and above the added
costs that would be incurred for a comparable increase in volume for Baldwin s regular products. On
the positive side, Ms. Leister was acutely aware that the bicycle boom had flattened out, and this plus
a poor economy had caused Baldwin s sales volume to fall in the past two years.1 As a result, Baldwin
currently was operating its plant at about 75% of a one shift capacity. Thus, the added volume from Hi
Valu s purchases could possibly be very attractive. If agreement could be reached on prices, Hi Valu
would sign a contract guaranteeing to Baldwin that Hi Valu would buy its own brand bicycles only
from Baldwin for a three year period. The contract would then be automatically extended on a year to
year basis, unless one party gave the other at least three months notice that it did not wish to extend
the contract. Suzanne Leister realized she needed to do some preliminary financial analysis of this
proposal before having any further discussions with Karl Knott. She had written on a pad the
information she had gathered to use in her initial analysis; this information is shown in Exhibit 2. 1
The American bicycle industry is very volatile. From 1967 to 1970 sales average about 7 million units
a year; in 1973 sales were 15 million units; in 1975 sales were back down to 7.5 million units and in
1982 sales were 10 million units. 2 EXHIBIT 1:

Project Title:OPTICAL CHARACTER RECOGNITION USING ARTIFICIAL
NEURAL NETWORKS
Abstract: The Optical Character Recognition (OCR) is becoming popular areas of
research under pattern recognition and smart device applications. It requires the intelligence
like human brain to recognize the various handwritten characters. Artificial Neural Network
(ANN) is used together the information required to recognize the characters adaptively. This
paper presents a performance analysis of character recognition by Scale Invariant Feature
(SIF) matrix with a Back Propagation Neural network (BPN). A GUI based OCR system is
developed using Mat lab. The results are shown for the English alphabets and numeric. This
is observed that the perceptron network converges faster, whereas the BPN can handle the
complex script recognition when the training set is enriched.
Keywords:
Character recognition, back propagation neural network, scale invariant feature
Introduction:
Automatic character recognition is a well accepted area of research under pattern recognition.
In handwritten character recognition, characters are written by different individuals that vary
drastically from person to person due to variation in the writing style, its size and orientation
of characters. This makes the system difficult to recognize the characters. Artificial Neural
Network (ANN) helps to solve the problem of identifying handwritten characters in an
automated manner. ANN is an adaptive

This book burning happened in 1948 soon after ww2. The people who were responsible for these
burned books are well intentioned parents and citizens of the united states, and they were convincing
their children to burn their comic books. Frederic Wertham, psychiatrist born in germany, worked in a
hospital treating bad children. He found that the children read comic books and then concluded that
the comic books are the cause of children becoming criminals. For nearly a month children gathered
up comic books at their school in 6 foot high piles and burnt them. After that residents in birmingham
went from home to home collecting comic books and have a mass public book burning. This went on

Comparing The Perfect Storm And Super Natural Disasters Of...
Both excerpts provide thorough descriptions on the causes and effects of disasters. The excerpt from
Super Natural Disasters of the 21st Century demonstrates three massive natural disasters that recently
occurred and the devastation that developed as a result. Similarly, the excerpt from The Perfect Storm
combines factual information with a personal anecdote on the experience of an intensive storm.
Although both authors provide causes and effects on natural disasters, they use juxtaposed strategies
and techniques in order to support their claim.
The authors, Jacqueline Adams and Ken Kostel, who wrote the excerpt Super Natural Disasters of the
21st Century, adequately describe the causes and effects of disasters in different ways. For example, in

Summary Of Perry Patetic s Odyssey
Getting the family together for the holidays may be a little harder when they are 1000 miles apart.
Perry Patetic in his passage, claims that it is too easy to move away from the friends and family of our
past, this creates a loss in friendship and or relationships. Patetic supports his argument by first
explaining why people are able to move so far away. He continues by comparing the differences
between a close relationship to a long distance relationship. The authors purpose is to point out the
struggle of a long distance relationship in order to change one s opinion on the topic. The author
displays a sincere tone for the newer generation. Having a strong relationship with someone is only

Nuclear War And The Cold War Essay
The vast majority of the American public know the Cold War as a period of political and state tension
between the U.S. and the Soviet Union. This era is often associated with the advancement of scientific
research and arms build up as a result of the competition between these world superpowers, especially
through the development of the nuclear bomb. Aside from the actual politics of the Cold War, Joseph
Masco, professor of anthropology at the University of Chicago, argues in his novel, The Theater of
Operations, that the Cold War provided a psychological platform for the U.S. security state to
transform everyday American s perceptions of mass death. Through multiple government operations
during the Cold War, the idea of nuclear disaster was presented as an undeniable threat to the
American people, and instilled to a certain extent a sense of nuclear fear. Masco believes that the
current state of mind in the counterterror state is merely just a continuation of the effects of the Cold
War s psychological conditioning. Additionally, Masco argues that the nuclear projects during the
Cold War helped initiate the advancement of earth science research. He feels that through the
increased knowledge in these fields, the Cold War nuclear projects were linked to environmental
concerns. Through these examples, Masco demonstrates his view on how the Cold War has influenced
the U.S. cultural understanding of nuclear threats. Masco argues that the psychological efforts during
the decades

Donald Trump Stereotypes Analysis
With the upcoming election, Donald Trump s campaigns have caught the attention of the American
society. He has turned the 2016 presidential campaign into a unpredictable show, just the fact that he is
running for president with no political background is a joke itself. This sparked an interest in me and I
couldn t help but use this as a topic for my paper. In his bold and audacious speeches, Trump is known
to use stereotypes to draw in votes. Whether it is against women, Muslims, or Mexicans Trump has
said it all. So my journey begins first in asking, what is a stereotype? And how does a stereotype affect
a group of individuals? Thus leading to the question which drives my paper, how does Trump s use of
stereotypes affect a voter s opinion? As a voter myself I m curious to see if ... Show more content on

I went to Google and typed in Donald Trump Stereotype speech to find an article, Donald Trump
Stereotypes Jews in Speech to Republican Jewish Coalition written in the Miami Herald by Patricia

specializes in politics and writes articles specifically directed toward anything that involved with
politics. Lesley Clark has also reported for many political events and has even gone to many events at
the White House. This article talks about how Trump Stereotypes Jewish people as being wealthy and
giving their money away to politicians but he tries to justify it by saying that his daughter is Jewish. In
the article it included quotes of him talking about how stingy Jewish people are and how he does not
need their money. This made me think of all the other people Trump has stereotype since this was the
most recent occurrence. After seeing the amount of people Trump has stereotyped, I wonder if he is
insecure and it s almost his way of bullying minorities so that Americans can side with

Famous Scientist Dbq
With more plants, animals, minerals, and places named after him than any other person it s a wonder
that so few have actually heard of him. Alexander Von Humboldt, born on September 14th, 1769 in
Berlin, was one of the most well known scientist in his day. Humboldt s work contributed to almost
every single field of natural science including biology, ecology, and geology. He published many
books and changed everything about science. Despite all of this he has been almost entirely forgotten
today due to German book burnings throughout World Wars I and II. Many of his ideas still remain

Humboldt s books were so commonly read that they quickly become common place, his theories
quickly became facts and remain to be seen as such today. All because Humboldt wrote in a way that
went beyond science. Andrea Wulf describes what He wrote about in Kosmos, Humboldt was the first
to explain the forest s ability to enrich the atmosphere with moisture and its cooling effect, as well as
its importance for water retention and protection against soil erosion. He warned that humans were
meddling with the climate and that this could have an unforeseeable impact on future generations
(source D). Humboldt used his theories to show why his discoveries mattered, and why people should
be listening to him. He created high interest in his work which is why it was able to become so
widespread. Humboldt made his ideas accessible and relatable meaning that everyone from scholars to
farmers could understand what he was saying. His method of making science so universal mad his
theories universal, which turned Humboldt s ideas into common

  • 3. A Brief Note On Unmanned Aerial Vehicles ( Uavs ) Review of Literature As they are advancing, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) increasingly use battery technology coupled with electric motors to supply energy, as opposed to fossil fuel combustion engines (Floreano Wood, 2015). However, general development associated with UAVs sees the simultaneous processes of advancement of UAV operated tasks in terms of complication and required time and relative stagnation of the battery technology that must be used to power the UAVs in such tasks (Floreano Wood, 2015). The goal of a battery system in general is to maximize energy capacity and to minimize the total cell mass necessary to facilitate a given quantity of the former and researchers are at a standstill when the most energy dense material available, lithium, cannot be utilized in its elemental form and reacts violently with many cathode materials (Hossain, 1995; Murata, Izuchi, Yoshihasa, 2000). The literature will hereinafter be organized in its relation to: 1. The interaction of battery systems with UAVs 2. The mechanisms of a lithium ion cell 3. The development of solid polymer electrolytes for batteries 4. Peukert s Law and its application to lithium polymer technology These four concepts together will cover the groundwork for studying the electrochemistry of and creating a mathematical model for a lithium ion battery used in an unmanned aerial vehicle. • 4. City Of Thieves Chapter Summary City of Thieves Chapter Summaries Chapter One Chapter One introduces us to Lev Beniov, the seventeen year old commander of a firefighter brigade in the Kirov an apartment complex in the besieged city of Leningrad during the winter of 1941. The initial pages focus on Lev s idealism and naïveté when he refuses to flee the city with his mother and his sister, Taisya. Ironically, the supposedly safe city of Vyazma to which his mother and sister flee is taken by the Nazis in October. Lev and the other members of the brigade Vera Osipovna, and the Antokolsky twins, Grisha and Oleg spend the night of New Year s Eve 1941 eating an onion soaked in safflower oil and identifying the various German aircraft that pass overhead. Vera spots a dead German paratrooper descending from the sky and, lured by the prospect of German chocolate, the four decide to break curfew and rush down into Voinova Street to loot the body despite the fact that the punishment for ... He believes himself well suited to wartime, musing that his scrawniness prior to the siege made him better suited to the starvation and lack he would experience during it. By the second chapter, however, he has begun to abandon his belief in his self sufficiency. He berates himself for being unable to handle a single night in the Crosses without panic and despair and goes so far as to say he will never be a great Russian like his many idols who endured long prison sentences. In Chapter Three, Lev thoroughly succumbs to his belief in his lack of courage. Benioff sets up the existence of his secret knife at the end of Chapter Two, thereby hinting that it might be a means of escape later on. The next time it is mentioned, however, Lev relinquishes it to the Colonel, effectively abandoning any attempt at a heroic break for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Melissa Mccarthy In Mccarthy s Films The Melissa McCarthy train keeps churning as the immensely talented breakout actress has now fully shed that interim tag and officially become the queen of the comedy genre. Comparable to Bill Murray or Chris Farley in their heydays, McCarthy is not only the queen of her respective genre, but also the king, the dictator, and whatever other high standing position you can think of. True, not all of McCarthy s films are memorable (especially Tammy and Identity Theft), yet tremendous performances in films that include Spy, Bridesmaids, and The Heat, easily subdue and negate the less than stellar performances. But, where does her latest role in the R Rated comedy, The Boss, sit on her ever growing résumé? In the Boss, directed by Ben Falcone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But, don t look to either one for humor as Bell, who doesn t appear to have a humorous bone in her body, portrays the serious mother, all the while Dinklage plays a seemingly dry, obsessive ex lover of Michelle. To a degree, the vast majority of McCarthy s roles are silly but at least most of them have substance and purpose. The Boss, written by McCarthy and her husband (and director), Ben Falcone, is completely devoid of a meaningful plot, though relying far too much on petty, showboating antics (the opening sequence is a perfect example) that obviously attempt to sugarcoat the fact that there is absolutely no point to this story, whatsoever. Again, when you re having little girls brawl on the street a scene which mimics something straight out of an Anchorman film (minus the cameos), it s basically waving a sign of desperation to those watching. Plus, it doesn t help the cause when your lead character is horribly unlikable person (I wonder if Michelle was based on Donald Trump?). Michelle is a wealthy degenerate that loses her fortune, yet it s hard to care if she ever recoups it or if she finds the warm embrace that was absent from her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Cause And Effect Essay About Stress Have you ever wondered why you had a major breakout of acne on your face last week? That incident could be very likely caused a great deal of stress. Stress is a physical response that many people deal with due to an overload of tension or straining. Stress is the body s response to specific situations, and it affects a countless amount of people to this day. There are ways of dealing with stress and ways of preventing it too. Stress is part of everyday life, and it is meant to be managed so that people can remain happy and healthy. There are numerous things to know about stress and what exactly it is. Stress is originally a response from the body when the body is feeling attacked. When a person is under stress, the body will switch into a fight or flight type of mode. When the body goes into flight or fight mode, it responds by releasing a mix of a variety of hormones and chemicals. Some of the chemicals that the body may release include adrenaline, cortisol, and norepinephrine. These types of hormones and chemicals are released in the intention of trying to prepare the body for physical action to the stress that it is undergoing. The hormones and chemicals are released to respond to the situation that the person is being accustomed to. The situation represents the stress that the person is dealing with at that point in time. There are a variety of different types of stress that a person may experience, and not all stress is necessarily bad to experience. One of the types of stress is called acute stress. This type of stress is usually the most common that is dealt with today. This type of stress is as common as a person brushing their teeth everyday. Acute stress takes place when the body reacts to a new challenge, event, or demand. When this type of stress is being taken place, it will trigger the body to go into fight or flight mode . Some examples that may be the cause of this type of stress may include things like a fight with a close relative, pushing off homework to the very last minute, or waiting for a letter to see if you got accepted to your dream college. Acute stress is not always necessarily bad or considered negative . A person can also experience acute from things like ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. James Halliday s Ready Player One Throughout Ready Player One, small keys are shown to have great importance. Firstly, there are the three keys that a player must find to acquire the egg. Secondly, there are small items and bits of knowledge that prove to be immaterial keys necessary to complete the task. One such item greatly stands out in the challenge Wade faces: the quarter. Most readers would forget about this little, ordinary object, but at the end of the novel, it is known how vital this quarter really was. In addition to being an important aspect in the conclusion of Ready Player One and Wade s ultimate victory, the quarter appears to have a mysterious religious connection. To obtain this quarter, Wade goes through a long and grueling task of playing a perfect game of Pac Man on a special machine. He found this old Pac Man machine on Archaide, a planet with a museum of James Halliday s awards and classic video games, while looking for clues to find the next key. It is also apparent that Anorak s Almanac is his bible as Wade directly says that the Almanac had become my bible (61). So I ask you, why are we the second most overweight nation in the world? This is a raging epidemic which has caused one 1/3 of us to be overweight and further 35% of us to plunge into obesity! It is damaging both our economy and more importantly our wellbeing. Approximately $190 billion is spent in extra obesity related medical expenses per year within America. It s not just us; it s affecting our children, the next generation of pioneers and forward thinkers, the children of America. 7% of American children are already obese! I am here today to propose the idea of banning the fast food production industry. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Is it the temptation of the shortcuts that modern technology can provide to make life so efficient and easy? Yes. But I believe that the driving force behind obesity in America today is the fast food production industry. We are faced with a country whereby the adults of Mississippi cannot manage to eat even 1 piece fruit per day; it s not surprising that they are the most overweight state in America. In North Dakota, there are 0.85 McDonalds per thousand residents and, unsurprisingly, they have a 31% obesity rate, however in Utah, where the obesity rate is only 24.1%, and they have the lowest high school obesity rate at 6.1%, there is just half a McDonalds per every thousand resident. There is a clear correlation showing. As the fast food industry has become bigger, so have we. In 1972, we spent 3 billion a year on fast food today we spend more than $110 billion. • 11. What Were The Weaknesses Of The Nazi Party The Nazi party went from being an unpopular political group in 1919 to being the most powerful political party in Germany by 1932. The reason for this are the weaknesses in the Weimar constitution, the 1918 Armistice, the 1923 crisis, the Treaty of Versailles and The Great Depression. Hitler s personality was also very important to the Nazi s success. He was very arrogant since his early days and he never took a no for an answer. He also was the type of the person who never gave up even and even if it did not work out he blamed others. All these reasons helped the Nazis rasie to power. There was also the Armistice in 1918. This also shows how Hitler used the German s self determination and their nationalistic feelings for the growth of his party. The people of Germany were also angry at the government for signing the Treaty of Versaille and they were looking for a more extremist party which was like the old kaiser government they all trusted. • 12. Banning Books In Schools Catchy Title As a teen, students should not be exposed to the inappropriateness that are put in books at such a young age. There are several reasons that banned books should be kept out of the classrooms. A few specifically are, racial issues, inappropriate language and sexual profanity. Some people believe books should be banned in schools/libraries because it is putting inappropriate knowledge in at such a young age. First, Racial Issues is a main conflict going around across the world, we never thought it would come down to being in children s books. For example, To Kill A Mockingbird uses the N word directly (Lee 108). Students with different races should not have to experience those kinds of things in books they are reading in school. It offends people with race. To Kill A Mockingbird also states racial groups(Lee 109). Books children read in schools should not state racial groups directly. It can upset people with race. Students will easily be offended by this kind of stuff. Also, Inappropriate Language is used immensely throughout kids books. Exposing inappropriate language into kids heads at such a young age. That is why this event really contributes to Canadian identity. • 14. Employee Retention Culture Despite fluctuating economic times and increased globalization of American jobs, most employers are finding it hard to keep good workers. The reality of today s job market is that workers are expecting more from their employers and are not afraid to move on if their needs are not met by your organization. Based on compelling data from the Society for Human Resource Management and others who study workforce trends, leading organizations must take time to analyze their retention realities and ensure that the valuable employees they currently have are not seeking greener pastures. How do great organizations maintain low levels of turnover and high levels of employee satisfaction? The answer is found in one word: culture. Organizations with high rates of employee retention concentrate on creating four distinct cultures that keep people focused on the organization and its goals. The purpose of this article is to explore these four cultures and to recommend practical strategies for developing these cultures in your workplace. October 21st, 2014). This quote refers specifically to Alzheimer s, which is defined as progressive mental deterioration that can occur in middle or old age, due to generalized degeneration of the brain. It is the most common cause of premature senility. However, Alzheimer s is merely only a form of many debilitating diseases under the umbrella of Dementia, defined as a chronic or persistent disorder of the mental processes caused by brain disease or injury and marked by memory disorders, personality changes, and impaired reasoning. Some examples of these disorders include: Vascular dementia, Frontotemporal dementia (Pick s disease), Creutzfeldt Jakob disease, and of course as was previously for mentioned, Alzheimer s disease. Each form of dementia will be discussed in depth including their symptoms, treatments, and their histories. Vascular dementia is a decline in thinking skills caused by conditions that block or reduce blood flow to the brain, depriving brain cells of vital oxygen and nutrients. Conditions that can block blood flow to the brain are generally transient ischemic attacks (TIA s) or strokes. When these occur, often major brain blood vessels are damaged and blocked causing effects on personality, ways of thinking and problem solving, and generally can coexist with changes linked with other types of dementia. ... • 17. Portrayal Of Women In Miss Representation Miss Representation (2011) criticizes the media conglomerate s portrayal of women in film and the disproportionate amount of women involved in the industry. Whether we accept it or not, media consumption heavily influences our daily behavior and societal norms. When Hollywood casts women in a monochromatic light, often sexualizing them for sensationalism, it is hard for women to envision themselves in roles other than those portrayed and even harder for men to acknowledge women as complex individuals greater than their film presence. By grouping common media portrayals of women, Miss Representation emphasizes the lack of versatile of roles for women. Although 50.8% of the population is comprised of women, the documentary cites only 16% female protagonists in film that depict one of three generic, superficial, and stereotypical roles: the career driven boss, the sex object, and the hopeless romantic. The career driven boss is typified as solely career oriented. She sacrifices her family, friends, and even sometimes her own happiness for the sake of her job. The entire plot revolves around diminishing her accomplishments in a patriarchal world that only perceives her as bitchy. A prime example of this role would be Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly in the Devil Wears Prada. The next role, more dehumanizing than the last, is the sex object characterization that seeks only to use women as body props or eye candy. While these women may appear to be empowered in the beginning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Politics of Highly Radioactive Waste Disposal Essay The Politics of Highly Radioactive Waste Disposal Nuclear waste disposal is a political problem, not a technical problem.1 Dr. Edward Teller Highly radioactive waste disposal has become one of the most controversial aspects of nuclear technology. As the amount of spent nuclear fuel from commercial nuclear reactors and high level radioactive waste from defense related processing plants has continued to mount, the issue has become increasingly contentious and politicized.2 The politicization of this issue is especially evident in the site selection process of a permanent national repository for the disposal of highly radioactive waste. Paradoxically, as the need for action has become more acute, the conflict generated by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The following year, after environmental impact assessments were conducted by DOE, the list was narrowed to five potential locations (Richton Dome, Mississippi; Yucca Mountain, Nevada; Deaf Smith County, Texas; Davis Canyon, Utah; and, Hanford, Washington).5 Finally, in 1986, DOE narrowed the field to three sites: Yucca Mountain, Nevada; Deaf Smith County, Texas; and Hanford, Washington. The fact that each of these locations had a prior involvement with nuclear technology probably contributed to their selection since DOE likely concluded that any opposition to establishing a radioactive waste repository would be muted.6 The site selection process in the East was even more difficult. As Michael Kraft, Professor of Environmental Studies, points out: Controversies similar to those in the West emerged during the second siting process in the East. In January 1986, DOE announced that 12 locations in seven states in the upper Midwest and East had been selected from its original list of 235 potential sites in seventeen states. Once again DOE defended its choices in terms of the official siting guidelines....That process led to a proposal to study further the final sites in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Maine, New Hampshire, Virginia, Georgia, and North Carolina....Intense public opposition and fears of political repercussions in an election year led the Reagan White House in late May 1986 to ... In this type of affinity chromatography, dyes compose the group of ligands than are employed in the technique (Hage et al., 2012). The initial motivation for scientists to investigate more about dye ligand affinity chromatography was given after the interactions that took place between Blue Dextran, a Cibaron Blue and dextran conjugate, which is used as a void marker in size exclusion chromatography, and particular kinases. Until then, only purification of various proteins by size exclusion chromatography with Blue Dextran, like for example, erythrocyte pyruvate kinase, phosphofructokinase, glutathione reductase, ... Another crucial characteristic is the negative charge of these groups at all pH values. Carboxyl, amino, chloride, or metal complexing groups can be part of these dyes, but in most of them nitrogen both in and outside on aromatic ring can be included (Denizli and Pişkin, 2001). The most popular dyes used for the purification of proteins are triazinyl based reactive dyes. The synthesis procedure is mainly based on Cyanuric chloride or (1,3,5 trichloro sym triazine). In particular, the fact that electronegative atoms are present is the reason for the three carbon atoms to be characterized as extremely positive, and as a result they are very sensitive to nucleophilic attacks. The attachment of chromophore molecules to this is extremely simple and so dichlorotriazinyl dyes can be also formed (Denizli and Pişkin, 2001). A characteristic example of this category of dyes is the Procion MX series (from Imperial Chemical Industries). These series can also react later with aniline, sulfanilates or other nucleophilic substituents in order to produce monochlorotriazinyl dyes like for example Cibacron (from Ciba Geigy) or Procion H (from ICI).The exact position of the sulfonate group on the aniline ring is the main characteristic that helps scientists to distinguish the two series, as in Procion H series it ... On the positive side, Ms. Leister was acutely aware that the bicycle boom had flattened out, and this plus a poor economy had caused Baldwin s sales volume to fall in the past two years.1 As a result, Baldwin currently was operating its plant at about 75% of a one shift capacity. Thus, the added volume from Hi Valu s purchases could possibly be very attractive. If agreement could be reached on prices, Hi Valu would sign a contract guaranteeing to Baldwin that Hi Valu would buy its own brand bicycles only from Baldwin for a three year period. Project Title:OPTICAL CHARACTER RECOGNITION USING ARTIFICIAL NEURAL NETWORKS Abstract: The Optical Character Recognition (OCR) is becoming popular areas of research under pattern recognition and smart device applications. It requires the intelligence like human brain to recognize the various handwritten characters. Artificial Neural Network (ANN) is used together the information required to recognize the characters adaptively. This paper presents a performance analysis of character recognition by Scale Invariant Feature (SIF) matrix with a Back Propagation Neural network (BPN). A GUI based OCR system is developed using Mat lab. The results are shown for the English alphabets and numeric. This is observed that the perceptron network converges faster, whereas the BPN can handle the complex script recognition when the training set is enriched. Keywords: Character recognition, back propagation neural network, scale invariant feature Introduction: Automatic character recognition is a well accepted area of research under pattern recognition. In handwritten character recognition, characters are written by different individuals that vary drastically from person to person due to variation in the writing style, its size and orientation of characters. This makes the system difficult to recognize the characters. Artificial Neural Network (ANN) helps to solve the problem of identifying handwritten characters in an automated manner. • 33. Nuclear War And The Cold War Essay The vast majority of the American public know the Cold War as a period of political and state tension between the U.S. and the Soviet Union. This era is often associated with the advancement of scientific research and arms build up as a result of the competition between these world superpowers, especially through the development of the nuclear bomb. Aside from the actual politics of the Cold War, Joseph Masco, professor of anthropology at the University of Chicago, argues in his novel, The Theater of Operations, that the Cold War provided a psychological platform for the U.S. security state to transform everyday American s perceptions of mass death. Through multiple government operations during the Cold War, the idea of nuclear disaster was presented as an undeniable threat to the American people, and instilled to a certain extent a sense of nuclear fear. Masco believes that the current state of mind in the counterterror state is merely just a continuation of the effects of the Cold War s psychological conditioning. Additionally, Masco argues that the nuclear projects during the Cold War helped initiate the advancement of earth science research. He feels that through the increased knowledge in these fields, the Cold War nuclear projects were linked to environmental concerns. Through these examples, Masco demonstrates his view on how the Cold War has influenced the U.S. cultural understanding of nuclear threats.
