Describe The Importance Of Road Safety Inspections
Road Safety Inspections
Road safety inspections are important. The material explicitly describes the importance of safety
inspections. Without road inspections, the streets and highways would be a chaos for commuters
(Ward, Otto & Linkenbach, 2014). Just imagined if the overgrown shrubs and trees hid the traffic
road signs and directional signs pointing in the wrong way. This would be a recipe for disaster.
Additional lives would be at–risk by this potential roadway hazards. Identifying potential roadway
hazards timely may reduce the mortality rate (Ward, Otto & Linkenbach, 2014).
The Office of Traffic Safety and other similar agencies are working diligently to develop a remedial
measure to save drivers' lives (DOT, 2011). To alleviate the road hazards in Minnesota, the road
safety inspector conducts routine safety inspections. The safety inspector examines the highways,
construction signs, bridges, and obstructions that may block the motorists' view (DOT, 2011). The
State of Minnesota is vulnerable to various potential hazards. These hazards are associated with
man–made and natural disasters that threatens the loss of life and property.
Inspector Role
An inspection is a critical element that detects and responds to potential hazards. For example, the
inspector ensures that the road signs are visible both day and night. In Minnesota, public safety
department encourages the citizens to report any potential road hazards like potholes and damaged
road signs.

Why Maintenance Is Important For Business Success Related...
Maintenance plays a relevant role in business success related to offshore oil and gas. It is a key for
ensuring the efficient use of equipment as well as an efficient production process and, hence on the
profitability since failures impacts the performance of subsea equipment both in terms of production
accessibility and repetitive breakdowns or running in bad condition may contribute to lower product
quality, increased energy consumption and reduced revenue. Thus, the objective of maintenance is
not simply to overcome failures, but also to predict and prevent revenue loss at the management
level (Nguyen et al, 2013). Because of the long distance between platforms to shore and the water
depth, it is noteworthy that maintenance can be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, the study focuses on minimizing this duality.
Thus, holding cost is a variable relevant to achieve the objective of the project; therefore, it must be
measured as close to the reality. In this proposal, the article considered the cost of carrying as the
sum of the cost of the physical space occupied by the inventory including depreciation, insurance,
utility costs, taxes, rent, cost of handling the items. It was disregarding the obsolescence because the
paper considers an inventory system with non–instantaneous deteriorating item.
In this context, it is proposed integration between preventive condition–based maintenance policies,
spare parts service level, and overall cost (holding, ordering, inspection, downtime and preventive
and corrective replacement costs). Therefore, the goal is to identify the optimal relationship between
regular maintenance intervals, preventive replacement threshold, optimal reorder time and stock
level. The solution can be addressed by a multi–objective optimization model in which employs
Monte Carlo Simulation methods that can enable to estimate random and uncertain values for all
significant factors (deterioration levels and random failure rate), and simultaneously assess the
policy performance with respect to minimizing costs.
Having introduced the importance of the integration between critical spare

What Temporal Analysis of Contribution Pattern says about...
In this section, we state and justify the choices we made in the study, its influence and also discuss
the future scope of this work. In this paper, we present a case study on one real–world, large,
popular and open source project namely Google Chromium Project. Google Chromium has
reportedly observed an increase in popularityfootnote{http://statcounter.com} (with respect to other
similar projects) from 2009 to 2012 that is the duration of the study. This increase in popularity is
also evident from the increase in issue count reported for the project. The insights present in the
study brings out the trends in popular project, however due to limited space availability we do not

Thus one may argue that it is the contribution pattern of core participants and not all contributors
that matters for the project. However, success of FLOSS projects is driven by masses and not
individuals where each contributor has a unique role to serve. For instance, approximately 70% of
contributors in FLOSS projects are one time contributors. However, their presence ensures
popularity and interest in project, and is appreciated. So if contributors cease to file issues it is an
indicator of decreasing popularity and influences the age of project. With decreasing contribution
the project diminishes and slowly dies out.
In this study we assume absence of activities in three months as an indicator of contributors leaving
the project. This assumption is localized. For instance, an owner who stop participating for three
months indicates that the contributor has left the project while a reporter may continue participation
even after a year. However, for planning this assumption holds as it indicates the trend of
participation. Also the data available in ITS may not answer all RQs that are of relevance to decision
makers. However, it gives justifiable understanding of stability of the project in a data–driven and
objective manner.
Another extension of this work will be to study environmental factors that influences stability of
project by examining contributor participation patterns. We present study on trends of participation,
however inclusion of factors

Reliability Factors : Food Truck Logistics
Reliability Factors: Food Truck Logistics Reliability Factors in a logistics system are key to the
overall health and success of the process. Many aspects of Logistics are equally as critical in terms
of importance however, when it comes to reliability it is hard to argue this factor consumes much
emotion from those working in as well as benefiting from a system. While reliability factors play a
role in many aspects of life, when dealing with logistics it is often an unseen issue until it actually
surfaces as a problem. Food trucks in recent years spread with mass popularity, convinces being a
driving factor. Despite the surface appearance of a simple logistical process, reliability factors play a
huge role in the logistics of operating a food truck. Measuring reliability factors in the food truck
industry requires first understanding the system of measure when analyzing reliability. To
paraphrase Blanchard as he discusses in Logistics Engineering & Management, reliability is defined
with a common sense approach. The probability a system or product will perform satisfactory for a
given time when used under specified operating conditions (Blanchard, p. 48). The measure of
logistic within a food truck operation requires careful analysis. Determining what the logistics
process is, whether that be the end product of food for the customer or the truck in itself is tricky.
Measuring the reliability for a food truck operation is best understood by taking a step back and

The Plan For Eden Bay
When I was first approached to research possible systems for the fleet, I knew it was going to be a
massive under taking. I had no guide, just a few questions from Dawn about how the recommended
system would address certain issues. There were countless hours of research looking at each
possible program, weighting the pros and cons of each, and then final reaching a conclusion to
which system to recommend for Eden Bay. Each of the fleet repair systems are good, solid
programs, however there is only one which I believe would suit the needs of Eden Bay. I found a
few different options at beginning of my research and I slowly began to review each product.
Several of the systems were thrown out early on, some because the cost was of the program was
running too high, or I thought the system was not user friendly, or even because I thought product
just would not benefit Eden Bay in the long term. While I liked many of the systems, it ultimately
came down to three programs: The Fleet Maintenance Pro by Innovative Maintenance Systems, the
Desktop Enterprise Edition by Manager Plus or Merchants Fleet Program. When it came time to
make my decision, the Fleet Maintience Pro stood out above the rest.
My first step was to do a general search online of fleet software to see what I could discover. After
the search, I narrowed it down to six systems to investigate. Using the main search results, I then did
a cusitorty look around the websites for each of the six main software programs.

of power tools, hand tools and heavy equipment. I am required to have a working knowledge and to

Quality communication was essential in each of these situations not only for the repair but the safety
of everyone. The maintenance part of my job requires me to research where to find replacement
parts for an aging system or like parts of the existing system every time something breaks or needs
preventative maintenance. I must read and research prints and plans for circuits and piping. There is
not a perfect manual for everything so, I must research and test hypothesis –to troubleshoot
mechanical, lighting, hydraulic pumps etc. The data is then input into FEMS (Facilities and
Equipment Maintenance System) to track hours worked and non–routine maintenance. Maintenance
is consistently monitored and stored in the FEM system which has a record everything the operator
needs to do to keep the facility running such as storing work orders. An example of data we store
beyond maintenance hours and scheduling, is the gap in the bull nose, which is an opening in the
concrete at the end of the guard wall where the boats enter. The guard wall keeps the boat from
moving over and hitting the dam. This crack is frequently measured and recorded for repair and
safety purposes.

Custodial Maintenance Management Software ( Cmms )
Sometimes it seems like the pace and demands of life increase by the day. We work longer hours,
shoulder heavier burdens, multitask and try to get more done in less time with fewer resources.
While these challenges apply to almost all market sectors, in our current economic environment the
facility services industry has been hit exceptionally hard. Building owners and managers are
demanding more from service providers and they are able to bargain effectively because of the
amount of competition in the industry and the willingness of some to sacrifice profits to get work.
The successful cleaning contractor has to look for unique and unconventional ways to gain
efficiency and remain competitive without sacrificing quality and service delivery. The low hanging
fruit – process improvement, more efficient equipment and better training have already been tried.
Where else can you turn? The solution may lie in cloud based CMMS. Custodial Maintenance
Management Software (CMMS) has been around for decades in a variety of formats. This
technology has steadily progressed from simple programs that were installed to a single PC to PDA
based applications that allowed greater mobility to today's robust server based systems. The progress
has been fast and furious. CMMS systems have become almost a requirement in the building
services industry and offer a multitude of features that allow managers to more effectively monitor
and document delivery of service. Typical capabilities

Maintenance Of A Software System
IMPACT ANALYSIS Abstract Maintenance of a software system is a challenging task. Moreover, if
changes are made in the software it is necessary and important to analyze the effect of these changes
on the system since they are not readily known in advance. Projects are influenced significantly by
the changing technologies and customer at the same time. Hence, to assess the impact of the changes
done to the existing system we need to carry out impact analysis. It is a task of identifying the right
object to modify to accomplish a change that is, estimating the potential consequences of carrying
out a change. It is a technique designed to unearth the unexpected results of a change in

As software systems have developed and progressed, legacy software has not been extended to
address the date requirement of the new century. In the year 2000, software systems which uses two
digits to express the year will take year 00 (2000) is less than 99 (1999) and will produce incorrect
results. With change comes there has become a need to accurately estimate the scope, size and
complexity of the changes and plan for their implementation. Traditionally, professionals determine
the effects of software change in their heads after some cursory examination of the code and
documentation. This can be good for small systems, but it is not good for large systems. Large
programs require storage to organize their software artifacts, which are now becoming
interdepended in complex ways. Impact Analysis offers leverage in understanding and implementing
change in these systems because impact analysis provides a detailed examination of the
consequences of changes in software. The major goal of impact analysis is to identify the affected
software products which are proposed for changes. Impact analysis takes a list of software life cycle
object from specifications to programs and analyze these SLOs with respect to change and produces
a list of items that should be addressed during the change process. Impact analysis has been
practiced for years, yet there is no commonly accepted definition. For example, the rem "impact
analysis" does not appear in

A Report On The Communication Phase Essay
During the communication phase, we gathered the following requirements from the clients. The
KPSmart program had to be a program that allowed the clerks to handle daily business in a
straightforward manner. This was to be done by containing business events in a log file that only the
manager could view, and included processing business events and displaying key business figures.
Using these requirements, we modeled our proposed system, and validated it with the clients. With
the requirements validated, we could move onto implementing the system and be guaranteed that
our implementation would meet the requirements as long as we followed our design documents and
the requirements stayed consistent with our original brief. As we had determined at the early stages
of the project, it was unlikely that the requirements would be volatile. Because of this we felt
confident that our design document would assure we followed the requirements during
implementation. To certify this, continuous testing was done throughout implementation, as well as
peer reviews of each others code. This was done through Travis CI integration with GitHub, which
assured that our master branch was always stable, all new features added to the system
conformed. To make sure the requirements were met once the system was implemented, thorough
testing was applied at the end of the implementation phase. At the end of testing, and the subsequent
amendments to the program, we were confident that we had met the

weaknesses are found in the bolster given to center levels of administration in making an

provides governance across all project phases, from planning and building to operations and
maintenance (Oracle's Primavera Unifier, n.d.). It is consistently used throughout the organization
and fits well into its portfolio. This system is classified as a Computerized Maintenance
Management System (CMMS) and was designed to collect data about an asset such as preventative
maintenance schedules, licensing, and rates of depreciation.
Although it offers other functions, the main purpose of this application was designed for asset
management. Using the collected data about an asset, the system, Unifier sends notifications or
work orders at scheduled intervals to the designated respondents who then perform the needed tasks.
For example, information about a fleet vehicle can be loaded into the Unifier system and the system
will send reminders for preventative maintenance based on manufacturer recommendations for age
and mileage. Scheduling oil changes, fluid flushes, tire rotations, and belt changes is made much
easier through Unifier. It can also provide the maintenance worker with the exact information,

Problem Statement On Maintenance Management
1.0: Introduction
The introduction chapter begins with the background to the research project, this looks at
maintenance and its importance to a manufacturing or production environment. This goes on to look
at the formulation of the problem statement which gives an insight into the impact of maintenance
on the production cycle. The problem discussion is therefore narrowed down where the problem
formulation and research question will be presented. Some shortcomings about the research project
are also stated herein.
1.1: Background and Statement of the Problem
The economic downturn and the dynamic business environment drive companies to seek more
efficient and effective maintenance methods (Van Horenbeek et al., 2010). Thus, the increasing
competition in the market creates a need to search new ways in which companies can differentiate
themselves and gain more profit and better competitiveness. To stay competitive and continue to
produce profitably mining industries are always looking for ways to continuously improve and
optimise their production processes especially when faced with falling or depressed metal prices as

Reliability And Availability Evaluation Of A System Switched
RELIABILITY AND AVAILABILITY EVALUATION OF A SYSTEM SWITCHED TO
ANOTHER SIMILAR, SUBSTITUTE OR DUPLICATE SYSTEM ON TOTAL FAILURE
ABSTRACT
A two–unit standby system is considered with two types of repair facilities. One facility repairs one
unit at a time and other facility repairs both the units simultaneously. When both the units fail, if unit
can be repair in short time then repair will be continued, otherwise in order to improve availability
another substitute system taken from outside is used, which is guaranteed for failure free operation.
Assuming failure and repair times as exponentially distributed, Expressions for the mean time to
system failure (MTSF), the steady state availability and busy period for system are derived using
linear first order differential equations. A particular case for the proposed system is discussed in
which substitute system was not considered. Also comparison is performed graphically to observe
the effect of the proposed system on Availability.
Keywords: Availability, Linear first order differential equation, Mean Time to System Failure,
Reliability, Steady State Availability.

Essay On Check Your Fluids
Maintaining your vehicle is essential, not just to ensure its longevity but also to make it safe.
Without proper maintenance, your car could pose a risk to you, your passengers, and others.
Skipping maintenance tasks might save you a little money, but it could carry a much more serious
cost. Take your car maintenance seriously by following this ultimate guide.
Check Your Fluids
Check Oil Monthly
Motor oil prevents your car's metal engine components from coming in contact with one another,
reducing friction and preventing overheating. Over time, however, oil breaks down and picks up
contaminants, such as water vapor, unburned fuel, and gases from the combustion process. Change
your oil regularly to protect your motor and prevent it from seizing while you're on the road. ...

Park on a flat surface, pop the hood, and pull out the dipstick. Wipe off the oil, replace the dipstick,
and pull it out again. The oil should reach the "full" line and look clear and viscous. If it's a little
low, top off your oil. If it's significantly low or appears black or thick, it's time for an oil change.
Even if your oil appears fine, replace it as often as your owner's manual suggests.
Monitor Transmission Fluid Level and Appearance
Your car's transmission fluid keeps the gears moving smoothly. A low transmission fluid level can
cause your car's components to overheat, and your vehicle may miss gears while you're on the road.
Check your transmission fluid every month, and replace the fluid according to your manual's
instructions.
The process for checking transmission fluid is similar to checking the oil, although you do it with
the engine running. Make sure the fluid appears smooth and clean, and top it off if the level is low. If
you notice any metal flakes or chunky bits, have your mechanic check it out.

History of TPM
TPM, a unique Japanese system of managerial expertise, was created in 1971, based on the PM
(preventive maintenance or productive maintenance) concept introduced from the United States in
the 1950s through the 1960s. Subsequently, in the 1970s through the 1980s, TPM gradually
developed as its remarkable achievements because recognized. TPM now permeates entire company
structures, every line of business, and all parts of the world; this is evidenced by a sharp increase in
the number of business establishments receiving PM awards based on TPM, the shift from
production–sector TPM to company–wide TPM, and the growing number of countries in which
TPM is practiced.

Basic Types Of Software Maintenance
2. What are the three different types of software maintenance and how is effort distributed across
these maintenance types? Software maintenance is the general process of changing a system after it
has been Delivered .By modifying existing system changing and adding of components are done
when needed There are three different types of software maintenance: 1. Fault repairs: Coding errors

I am employed as a Maintenance Manager at the Strand Palace Hotel in London. I am responsible
for the day to day maintenance of the whole building, also refurbishments of guest rooms and
corridors, public areas and back of house areas. I am working with a team of 15 technicians and 4
shift engineers, all with different skills. Every first and last hour of my day will involve planning
tasks to be completed, ranging from fixing any breakdowns of machinery to hanging a mirror in the
admin office. As we are in the hospitality and leisure industry guest/customer satisfaction is key. We

least one technician on PPM. We also have service contractors for the up keeping of catering
equipment. As mentioned before on the first and last hour of the day is when the planning and
allocating takes place. On the last hour, I will walk around public areas, back of house and note
anything specific that requires our attention. Then from the schedule for areas, I will start allocating
technicians there tasks in line with their capabilities, skill set, experience and the next day's staffing
levels. Then using the hotels booking system I will check for occupancy levels and room
availabilities to compile a list of rooms for PPM. I will then compile lists for each technician. The
next morning, in the first hour of my day the lists together with copies of check sheets, I will pass
them on the relevant technicians. If there is anything out of norm I will take extra time with a
technician to go the task to see its successful completion. Then when appropriate I will go round and
visit technicians and monitor their progress. In most cases the technicians has completed the giving
task and will visit the maintenance office to leave the complete check sheet in my in tray.

Nowadays companies are recognizing the importance of maintenance. But still a lot more
improvement is necessary in maintenance area. Most of the companies are still thinking
maintenance as a separate additional department.
This paper outlines different maintenance policies with their benefits and limitations. It also defines
the relationship between maintenance and quality by emphasizing the importance of Condition
Based Maintenance (CBM) and e–maintenance. This paper also elaborates how Total Productive
maintenance (TPM) changes the company culture. It also explains how Overall Equipment

Nowadays there is increasing awareness about maintenance. Companies are now understand that if
they want to achieve their production goal then their machines with full working condition should
be available throughout the production. So the relationship between production and maintenance has

Diesel trucks are built tough – They can run with incredible reliability for hundreds of thousands of
miles, but only if they are properly cared for. With all of their power and strength, diesel trucks can
demand quite the attention if they are not properly maintained.
An older TV commercial featured an auto mechanic that looked into the viewer's eyes and said,
"Pay me now, or pay me later." He was trying to convey to the audience that you can pay him today
to maintain your car or you can pay him a large amount of money later for repairs. This is excellent
advice, even today. Truck preventative maintenance is a critical component to keeping costs down

My Service Advisors Are Not Actively Selling Preventative...
If your service advisors are not actively selling preventative maintenance on a continuous basis, they
are leaving money on the table that should be easy enough to get. This is especially true if they
know customers from dealing with them in the past and have access to their maintenance history and
repair records. It's a matter of being proactive with your customers and explaining the real value of
staying ahead in the repair and maintenance game.
Every time a customer comes to your service department for any reason, you have an opportunity to
sell them on preventative maintenance that may not come your way again. Often, customers go to
their service department only when they have repair needs they are not sure of, and go to secondary
repair and maintenance shops for things like oil changes, brake service or tires. This is usually
because they believe these kinds of things to be less expensive in outside shops than they are at their
dealership, which is not necessarily so. But, if no one tells them that how will they know?
Many people neglect to perform preventive maintenance on their vehicles because they have not
been properly informed of the value it brings to them. The may have little or no knowledge of such
things and may be intimidated about asking. Certainly, this is an important part of the job of a
service advisor. Often, because of the negative light that has been focused in recent years on abusive

Introduction to Software Maintenance and Change Control Process
Software maintenance process is a topic that probably comes up in most organizations and is an
important one to address. Once software is created there are usually changes or bugs that are found
causes there to be a need for maintenance. It is important to have a process in place that helps to
define how these items are handled and the path they take to completion. Using different tools to log

Utilizing programmers on an as needed or project basis allows the company greater flexibility of
their programming resources, once again allowing them to conserve precious talent for only the
most critical issues.
The third tier of the software maintenance plan is management. Management works in tandem with
both of the previous layers. For instance there may be a technical support supervisor who makes the
final decision about escalation to the programming team. This person serves as the liaison between
the two teams to insure that the issue is communicated, fixed, and ultimately resolved for the user.
On the programming team a project manager or lead programmer may be in charge. This person 's
job is to prioritize pending escalated issues from the technical support team as well as company
requested modifications to the program. This person is often times the head of the programming
team and may report directly to the systems manager or IT manager. Above the lead programmer
you have the IT department manager. This person 's job is to monitor the IT department 's day to day
operations to insure that it is effectively and efficiently supporting the company 's customers.

Corrective Vs. Predictive Maintenance
As a MINI owner, you likely want to keep your car in great shape for as long as possible. If you take
your vehicle in to be serviced on a regular basis, your mechanic can help prevent and troubleshoot
the maintenance issues that may manifest. Generally, you might arrange for one of two options
when scheduling service appointments: corrective or predictive visits. Understanding the basic
concepts behind each of these types of visits may help you to decide which ones are most suited to
your circumstances. When you have a reputable, local mechanic in Abbotsford to perform
maintenance work on your car, you can be confident that you are giving it the best possible care.
What Is the Difference Between Corrective and Predictive Maintenance?
Corrective maintenance may also be referred to as reactive maintenance or condition–based
maintenance. These terms all essentially refer to a type of maintenance service that is performed as a
result of need. If the transmission or battery on a car begins to experience problems, then you would

owner who relies on predictive service checks might be. If you haven't had a lot of problems with
your vehicle in the past, this could be the best option for you. Additionally, if your budget does not

VII. ECONOMIC IMPACT OF E–MAINTENANCE
For any company major concern is cost factor. Generally maintenance cost are divided into main
four major categories [1].
Direct Cost: It includes costs such as :
a) Labor cost: Labors who are working in maintenance department for daily activities. E–
maintenance always works on condition based maintenance. So the company which implements e–
maintenance will always have minimum workers. b) Spare parts inventory: Company always
requires to have some important spare parts in inventory. It should be always beneficial if they have
optimum inventory. E–maintenance always predicts the future life of equipments so company based
on e–maintenance reports can purchase only required additional spare parts. It will reduce
unnecessary inventory cost.

The research was conducted by conducting a survey. The survey was designed in such a way that
every hospital had to answer the questions in the survey. Every hospital had been given six to eight
copies of the questionnaire depending on the involvement of the hospital departments and the type
of equipment's available for the survey and the maintenance strategies followed.
After completing the questionnaires, approval was required from the hospital head who is
responsible for every activity taking place in his hospital. The main study of this experiment is to
check the non–availability of the equipment or failure, which would risk the patient's life in danger.
The rules and regulations or criteria for conducting the research on the criticality of the equipment is
the risk of failure or breakdown of the equipment when it is used on a patient, the average time used
for a patient, average number of patients used or serviced by the equipment, operational life of the
equipment and the availability of alternative equipment in case of failure or malfunction at critical
times. There are around 6782 devices were examined during the process. We have taken only 5
equipment's for the study in this paper.
In the pilot project we have considered only 5 hospitals and five types of critical hospital equipment
were examined and that had a non–availability of high risk level. The equipment's are kidney
dialysis, cardiac catheterization

My First Year As A Biomedical Engineering Technician
Autobiographical Paper My essay will be about my first year as a biomedical engineering technician
(BMET) in the United States Navy. Within my first few months, my knowledge, character and
leadership were tested and pushed to their fullest extent possible. This paper will be based on the
ethical decisions I was forced to make to ensure patient safety. Those decisions would change the
way my leadership, tactfulness and work relations would be throughout my work center for the
entirety of my remaining time onboard. Upon graduating from BMET school located in Ft. Sam
Houston, I was able to select orders to Naval Health Clinic Corpus Christi (NHCCC) in Corpus
Christi Texas. I reported onboard and it was a shocker as my work center was in ruins. Chipped tile
with asbestos glue was everywhere, tools sitting in random spots and papers everywhere. There
wasn't any organization whatsoever to the BMET work center. My two comrades were of no help
either. My supervisor was nothing like the leader I expected him to be, nor as I myself strive to be
for my subordinates. He was in his 40s getting ready to retire after doing his 20 years in the Navy. I
respected that and thought to get some kind of insight about being a BMET from him. Prior to
becoming a BMET, I only had about 90 days of "on the job training (OJT)" and in school you didn't
learn anything about managing a work center. After about two weeks of struggling due to the lack of

  • 5. Describe The Importance Of Road Safety Inspections Road Safety Inspections Road safety inspections are important. The material explicitly describes the importance of safety inspections. Without road inspections, the streets and highways would be a chaos for commuters (Ward, Otto & Linkenbach, 2014). Just imagined if the overgrown shrubs and trees hid the traffic road signs and directional signs pointing in the wrong way. This would be a recipe for disaster. Additional lives would be at–risk by this potential roadway hazards. Identifying potential roadway hazards timely may reduce the mortality rate (Ward, Otto & Linkenbach, 2014). The Office of Traffic Safety and other similar agencies are working diligently to develop a remedial measure to save drivers' lives (DOT, 2011). To alleviate the road hazards in Minnesota, the road safety inspector conducts routine safety inspections. The safety inspector examines the highways, construction signs, bridges, and obstructions that may block the motorists' view (DOT, 2011). The State of Minnesota is vulnerable to various potential hazards. These hazards are associated with man–made and natural disasters that threatens the loss of life and property. Inspector Role An inspection is a critical element that detects and responds to potential hazards. For example, the inspector ensures that the road signs are visible both day and night. In Minnesota, public safety department encourages the citizens to report any potential road hazards like potholes and damaged road signs. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Why Maintenance Is Important For Business Success Related... Maintenance plays a relevant role in business success related to offshore oil and gas. It is a key for ensuring the efficient use of equipment as well as an efficient production process and, hence on the profitability since failures impacts the performance of subsea equipment both in terms of production accessibility and repetitive breakdowns or running in bad condition may contribute to lower product quality, increased energy consumption and reduced revenue. Thus, the objective of maintenance is not simply to overcome failures, but also to predict and prevent revenue loss at the management level (Nguyen et al, 2013). Because of the long distance between platforms to shore and the water depth, it is noteworthy that maintenance can be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, the study focuses on minimizing this duality. Thus, holding cost is a variable relevant to achieve the objective of the project; therefore, it must be measured as close to the reality. In this proposal, the article considered the cost of carrying as the sum of the cost of the physical space occupied by the inventory including depreciation, insurance, utility costs, taxes, rent, cost of handling the items. It was disregarding the obsolescence because the paper considers an inventory system with non–instantaneous deteriorating item. In this context, it is proposed integration between preventive condition–based maintenance policies, spare parts service level, and overall cost (holding, ordering, inspection, downtime and preventive and corrective replacement costs). Therefore, the goal is to identify the optimal relationship between regular maintenance intervals, preventive replacement threshold, optimal reorder time and stock level. The solution can be addressed by a multi–objective optimization model in which employs Monte Carlo Simulation methods that can enable to estimate random and uncertain values for all significant factors (deterioration levels and random failure rate), and simultaneously assess the policy performance with respect to minimizing costs. Having introduced the importance of the integration between critical spare ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. What Temporal Analysis of Contribution Pattern says about... In this section, we state and justify the choices we made in the study, its influence and also discuss the future scope of this work. In this paper, we present a case study on one real–world, large, popular and open source project namely Google Chromium Project. Google Chromium has reportedly observed an increase in popularityfootnote{http://statcounter.com} (with respect to other similar projects) from 2009 to 2012 that is the duration of the study. This increase in popularity is also evident from the increase in issue count reported for the project. The insights present in the study brings out the trends in popular project, however due to limited space availability we do not bring out the contrast by comparison with projects that heads ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus one may argue that it is the contribution pattern of core participants and not all contributors that matters for the project. However, success of FLOSS projects is driven by masses and not individuals where each contributor has a unique role to serve. For instance, approximately 70% of contributors in FLOSS projects are one time contributors. However, their presence ensures popularity and interest in project, and is appreciated. So if contributors cease to file issues it is an indicator of decreasing popularity and influences the age of project. With decreasing contribution the project diminishes and slowly dies out. In this study we assume absence of activities in three months as an indicator of contributors leaving the project. This assumption is localized. For instance, an owner who stop participating for three months indicates that the contributor has left the project while a reporter may continue participation even after a year. However, for planning this assumption holds as it indicates the trend of participation. Also the data available in ITS may not answer all RQs that are of relevance to decision makers. However, it gives justifiable understanding of stability of the project in a data–driven and objective manner. Another extension of this work will be to study environmental factors that influences stability of project by examining contributor participation patterns. We present study on trends of participation, however inclusion of factors ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Reliability Factors : Food Truck Logistics Reliability Factors: Food Truck Logistics Reliability Factors in a logistics system are key to the overall health and success of the process. Many aspects of Logistics are equally as critical in terms of importance however, when it comes to reliability it is hard to argue this factor consumes much emotion from those working in as well as benefiting from a system. While reliability factors play a role in many aspects of life, when dealing with logistics it is often an unseen issue until it actually surfaces as a problem. Food trucks in recent years spread with mass popularity, convinces being a driving factor. Despite the surface appearance of a simple logistical process, reliability factors play a huge role in the logistics of operating a food truck. Measuring reliability factors in the food truck industry requires first understanding the system of measure when analyzing reliability. To paraphrase Blanchard as he discusses in Logistics Engineering & Management, reliability is defined with a common sense approach. The probability a system or product will perform satisfactory for a given time when used under specified operating conditions (Blanchard, p. 48). The measure of logistic within a food truck operation requires careful analysis. Determining what the logistics process is, whether that be the end product of food for the customer or the truck in itself is tricky. Measuring the reliability for a food truck operation is best understood by taking a step back and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. The Plan For Eden Bay When I was first approached to research possible systems for the fleet, I knew it was going to be a massive under taking. I had no guide, just a few questions from Dawn about how the recommended system would address certain issues. There were countless hours of research looking at each possible program, weighting the pros and cons of each, and then final reaching a conclusion to which system to recommend for Eden Bay. Each of the fleet repair systems are good, solid programs, however there is only one which I believe would suit the needs of Eden Bay. I found a few different options at beginning of my research and I slowly began to review each product. Several of the systems were thrown out early on, some because the cost was of the program was running too high, or I thought the system was not user friendly, or even because I thought product just would not benefit Eden Bay in the long term. While I liked many of the systems, it ultimately came down to three programs: The Fleet Maintenance Pro by Innovative Maintenance Systems, the Desktop Enterprise Edition by Manager Plus or Merchants Fleet Program. When it came time to make my decision, the Fleet Maintience Pro stood out above the rest. My first step was to do a general search online of fleet software to see what I could discover. After the search, I narrowed it down to six systems to investigate. Using the main search results, I then did a cusitorty look around the websites for each of the six main software programs. ... This Lock and Dam's sole purpose is not for flood control, or recreation, but it is for the transportation of goods. Accurate record keeping is a must to keep the money allocated by Congress for the Lock and Dam. .2. Maintenance Communication My maintenance duties consist of a myriad of working knowledge of power tools, hand tools and heavy equipment. I am required to have a working knowledge and to be proficient in the use of precision tools like multi–meter, volt meter, dial calipers, and micrometers. I must also possess the skills to train others to use them. Basic knowledge of drawings, prints, and schematics is required. I conduct or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Quality communication was essential in each of these situations not only for the repair but the safety of everyone. The maintenance part of my job requires me to research where to find replacement parts for an aging system or like parts of the existing system every time something breaks or needs preventative maintenance. I must read and research prints and plans for circuits and piping. There is not a perfect manual for everything so, I must research and test hypothesis –to troubleshoot mechanical, lighting, hydraulic pumps etc. The data is then input into FEMS (Facilities and Equipment Maintenance System) to track hours worked and non–routine maintenance. Maintenance is consistently monitored and stored in the FEM system which has a record everything the operator needs to do to keep the facility running such as storing work orders. An example of data we store beyond maintenance hours and scheduling, is the gap in the bull nose, which is an opening in the concrete at the end of the guard wall where the boats enter. The guard wall keeps the boat from moving over and hitting the dam. This crack is frequently measured and recorded for repair and safety purposes. 3. Teaching classes A. • 29. Custodial Maintenance Management Software ( Cmms ) Sometimes it seems like the pace and demands of life increase by the day. We work longer hours, shoulder heavier burdens, multitask and try to get more done in less time with fewer resources. While these challenges apply to almost all market sectors, in our current economic environment the facility services industry has been hit exceptionally hard. Building owners and managers are demanding more from service providers and they are able to bargain effectively because of the amount of competition in the industry and the willingness of some to sacrifice profits to get work. The successful cleaning contractor has to look for unique and unconventional ways to gain efficiency and remain competitive without sacrificing quality and service delivery. The low hanging fruit – process improvement, more efficient equipment and better training have already been tried. Where else can you turn? The solution may lie in cloud based CMMS. Custodial Maintenance Management Software (CMMS) has been around for decades in a variety of formats. • 37. Maintenance Of A Software System IMPACT ANALYSIS Abstract Maintenance of a software system is a challenging task. Moreover, if changes are made in the software it is necessary and important to analyze the effect of these changes on the system since they are not readily known in advance. Projects are influenced significantly by the changing technologies and customer at the same time. Hence, to assess the impact of the changes done to the existing system we need to carry out impact analysis. It is a task of identifying the right object to modify to accomplish a change that is, estimating the potential consequences of carrying out a change. As software systems have developed and progressed, legacy software has not been extended to address the date requirement of the new century. In the year 2000, software systems which uses two digits to express the year will take year 00 (2000) is less than 99 (1999) and will produce incorrect results. With change comes there has become a need to accurately estimate the scope, size and complexity of the changes and plan for their implementation. Traditionally, professionals determine the effects of software change in their heads after some cursory examination of the code and documentation. This can be good for small systems, but it is not good for large systems. Large programs require storage to organize their software artifacts, which are now becoming interdepended in complex ways. Impact Analysis offers leverage in understanding and implementing change in these systems because impact analysis provides a detailed examination of the consequences of changes in software. The major goal of impact analysis is to identify the affected software products which are proposed for changes. Impact analysis takes a list of software life cycle object from specifications to programs and analyze these SLOs with respect to change and produces a list of items that should be addressed during the change process. Impact analysis has been practiced for years, yet there is no commonly accepted definition. For example, the rem "impact analysis" does not appear in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. A Report On The Communication Phase Essay During the communication phase, we gathered the following requirements from the clients. The KPSmart program had to be a program that allowed the clerks to handle daily business in a straightforward manner. This was to be done by containing business events in a log file that only the manager could view, and included processing business events and displaying key business figures. Using these requirements, we modeled our proposed system, and validated it with the clients. With the requirements validated, we could move onto implementing the system and be guaranteed that our implementation would meet the requirements as long as we followed our design documents and the requirements stayed consistent with our original brief. As we had determined at the early stages of the project, it was unlikely that the requirements would be volatile. Because of this we felt confident that our design document would assure we followed the requirements during implementation. To certify this, continuous testing was done throughout implementation, as well as peer reviews of each others code. This was done through Travis CI integration with GitHub, which assured that our master branch was always stable, all new features added to the system conformed. To make sure the requirements were met once the system was implemented, thorough testing was applied at the end of the implementation phase. At the end of testing, and the subsequent amendments to the program, we were confident that we had met the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Reliability And Availability Evaluation Of A System Switched RELIABILITY AND AVAILABILITY EVALUATION OF A SYSTEM SWITCHED TO ANOTHER SIMILAR, SUBSTITUTE OR DUPLICATE SYSTEM ON TOTAL FAILURE ABSTRACT A two–unit standby system is considered with two types of repair facilities. One facility repairs one unit at a time and other facility repairs both the units simultaneously. When both the units fail, if unit can be repair in short time then repair will be continued, otherwise in order to improve availability another substitute system taken from outside is used, which is guaranteed for failure free operation. Assuming failure and repair times as exponentially distributed, Expressions for the mean time to system failure (MTSF), the steady state availability and busy period for system are derived using linear first order differential equations. A particular case for the proposed system is discussed in which substitute system was not considered. Also comparison is performed graphically to observe the effect of the proposed system on Availability. Keywords: Availability, Linear first order differential equation, Mean Time to System Failure, Reliability, Steady State Availability. 1) INTRODUCTION Competition exists in every field, to keep ahead a major challenge is availability improvement of a system, as less availability has negative impact. • 121. My Service Advisors Are Not Actively Selling Preventative... If your service advisors are not actively selling preventative maintenance on a continuous basis, they are leaving money on the table that should be easy enough to get. This is especially true if they know customers from dealing with them in the past and have access to their maintenance history and repair records. It's a matter of being proactive with your customers and explaining the real value of staying ahead in the repair and maintenance game. Every time a customer comes to your service department for any reason, you have an opportunity to sell them on preventative maintenance that may not come your way again. Often, customers go to their service department only when they have repair needs they are not sure of, and go to secondary repair and maintenance shops for things like oil changes, brake service or tires. This is usually because they believe these kinds of things to be less expensive in outside shops than they are at their dealership, which is not necessarily so. But, if no one tells them that how will they know? Many people neglect to perform preventive maintenance on their vehicles because they have not been properly informed of the value it brings to them. The may have little or no knowledge of such things and may be intimidated about asking. Certainly, this is an important part of the job of a service advisor. Often, because of the negative light that has been focused in recent years on abusive up selling practices, a service advisors fails to offer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 158. My First Year As A Biomedical Engineering Technician Autobiographical Paper My essay will be about my first year as a biomedical engineering technician (BMET) in the United States Navy. Within my first few months, my knowledge, character and leadership were tested and pushed to their fullest extent possible. This paper will be based on the ethical decisions I was forced to make to ensure patient safety. Those decisions would change the way my leadership, tactfulness and work relations would be throughout my work center for the entirety of my remaining time onboard. Upon graduating from BMET school located in Ft. Sam Houston, I was able to select orders to Naval Health Clinic Corpus Christi (NHCCC) in Corpus Christi Texas. I reported onboard and it was a shocker as my work center was in ruins. Chipped tile with asbestos glue was everywhere, tools sitting in random spots and papers everywhere. There wasn't any organization whatsoever to the BMET work center. My two comrades were of no help either. My supervisor was nothing like the leader I expected him to be, nor as I myself strive to be for my subordinates. He was in his 40s getting ready to retire after doing his 20 years in the Navy. I respected that and thought to get some kind of insight about being a BMET from him. Prior to becoming a BMET, I only had about 90 days of "on the job training (OJT)" and in school you didn't learn anything about managing a work center. After about two weeks of struggling due to the lack of direction from my superiors I was able ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
