An Exploration of Media and its Effects on Social...
Media is becoming an important aspect of today s society. Each and every day, people interact with
media of many differentforms. Media is commonly defined as being a channel of communication.
Our everyday lives are saturated by radio, television, newspapers, books, the Internet, movies,
recorded music, magazines, and more. In the twenty first century, we navigate through a vast mass
mediaenvironment unprecedented in human history. (Croteau and Hoynes, p. 3)This is also true
when we say media companies do not impose their own control upon the information being supplied
to media users. Since many people use media frequently, we can assume that it affects people.

Media has taken on an all new meaning to me from just taking this class. I feel truly that this is the
first class I can honestly say, I have learned something and grown because of what I have learned.
Media now is much more than the entertainment, news and advertisements I once thought it was.
We argue that the creators of media content have often reproduced the inequalities that exist in
society based on race, class, gender and sexual orientation. (Croteau and Hoynes, p.195) As a
society we are working our way toward a more equal society. As we know media is present in
many aspects of our lives therefore if they reinstating some of the widely known inequalities, thus
reinforcing these negative aspects of society. We are aware that the few media corporations that
are out there are owned but successful, white men. So when they choose the shows/music/movies
they want to produce these works, will include how they see the world. Thus the reinforcement of
inequalities present in our society. So when society evolves into a more accepting community
what happens to the media world? Creators of media products are often aware of this fact and use
entertainment media to comment on the real social world. (Croteau and Hoynes, p.97) Race refers
to the color/ethnic background of a person. There is no biological difference between an African
American and a Caucasian person,

Comparing Christmas In The USAd Iraq
Each culture has its way of celebrating Christmas. Millions of people celebrate Christmas around
the world. It is a very happy occasion which comes with gifts, decorations and the spirit of
Christmas. There are some differences between Christmas celebrations in the U.S and Iraq. These
differences include the date of celebration, the decorations and the type of food the two cultures
serve on ChristmasDay.
First, Christmas is celebrated in the U.S on December 25th. On December 25th, families in the U.S
exchange gifts. Some families put a lot of gifts under the Christmas tree for their family members.
Families go to church and have a family feast. Most Americans believe that Jesus was born on the

The Role Of Recidivism In Prisons
Routinely in the news are stories of ex convicts being arrested again, and sometimes for even more
serious crimes than they had been convicted for. Currently he overall recidivism rate for Oklahoma
Department of Corrections (ODOC) stands at 21 % (Oklahoma Department of Corrections, 2014).
The recidivism rate is calculated on the number of Oklahoma Inmates that reenter the corrections
department within three years of release. Faith based programs ministering within the prisonwalls,
and partnering with local churches to aid the convicted with reentry do make a difference
(Dodson, Cabage, Klenowski, 2011). The desired effect is not only a change in the life of the
offender, but for their children, and in turn can reduce crimein the community.
Indeed the overall recidivism rate is 21%, however the rate for offenders twenty five and younger
when convicted is nearly one in three. Likewise, nationwide one in three inmates participate in
some religious program during incarceration (Dammer, 2002). Studies have shown that inmates that

By providing reentry assistance, churches can not only assist adults recovering from a criminal
lifestyle, but help prevent their children from walking the same path. The children of convicted
criminals are at an increased risk of being convicted of a crime in their lifetime (Gatescambridge,
2012). On the other hand, children raised in a faith based community have a reduced risk of being
convicted of a crime (Dodson, Cabage, Klenowski, 2011, p.371). By providing a community of
support toward a new life for former inmates, the church may also be providing a new future for
their children. With so many parents behind bars, many foster children are the children of inmates.
Churches providing assistance with housing, job opportunities, and personal growth stand to help
these kids have healthy childhoods with their

Sceptics Challenge
Assess the Contextualist s response to the sceptic s challenge. The sceptics challenge revolves
around whether we can have knowledge of the external world. The sceptic gives three scenarios
where you are deceived; your senses are occasionally deceived for example for objects far in the
distance size, dreams can be so realistic that you take them to be fact, and you could be deceived
by a evil demon controlling your senses (adapted recently to the brain in a vat argument) and these
are phenomenally indistinguishable from real life. The Contextualist responds to the sceptics
challenge by saying we can both know a lot (Lewis, 1996) and know next to nothing (Lewis, 1996).
The Contextualist justifies this by saying that we have two forms of... Show more content on

This is due to knowledge being context dependent. A example of this is I know Peter is strong
in an everyday context, however if you put him in a weightlifting competition Peter will no
longer be considered strong as this is now relative to weightlifters. This therefore allows us to
say we have knowledge of everyday things such as having two hands without considering the
sceptics challenge due to knowledge being context dependent. I believe that this is a good
method of dealing with the sceptics challenge as you don t have to engage with the sceptic to
have everyday knowledge. To say Y knows X, X s evidence eliminates every possibility that not
X. The differentiation comes through what you consider every possibility in a low form this is
every reasonable possibility, and in a high context its every single possibility. This therefore
alters the domain of what you have to reject as in a high context the domain is much larger than
in a low context. I believe that this is a strength as you can interpret every situation in two
different contexts, this conserves the power of knowledge in a high context and also allows us
to discuss knowledge in a everyday context. This therefore refutes global (Cartesian) scepticism
as it allows you to have some form of knowledge. However this can also be considered an issue
as the rule of attention shows that it is very easy to lose knowledge by shifting from a low to a
high context, as soon as you add a possibility you cannot ignore it and therefore you lose
knowledge as soon as your attention is drawn to a sceptical scenario. This is a weakness as you
could argue that children have more knowledge than philosophers, as they haven t been drawn to
the attention of the sceptical scenario even though they only have low knowledge. This method is
particularly useful in solving the sceptics

Hindrance In The Civil Rights Movement
Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity. That
famous quote was spoken by Martin Luther King, who was a Civil Rights Movement leader. The
Civil Rights movement was a movement that was led by many African Americans and the goal of
the movement was to end legal racial segregation. Moreover, there was much ignorance shown by
white authorities when there was an African American boycotting to prove a point. Therefore, it
has been in the Supreme Court s hands many times to impact Civil Rights: Loving v. Virginia,
Swann v. Charlotte Mecklenburg Board of Education, and Regents of the University of California v.

of California v. Bakke. In Loving v. Virginia, Virginia enacted a law that prohibited marriage
between a black and white person. They would get get punished if they did. The Supreme Court
overturned that law to preserve marriage as a fundamental right. In Swann v. Charlotte
Mecklenburg Board of Education, the Charlotte Mecklenburg Board of Education was the first
school board trying to desegregate, especially using busing with all races. The Supreme Court s
judgement was to hope it would be a fine experience. So this is the first district to try to stop the
schools harass African Americans. The Regents of the University of California v. Bakke case was
when a white student was denied admission to a medical school despite the student that made it

Essay on Collective Bargaining in the Workplace
David Brody argues that the rise of contractual or collective bargaining relationships during the
post WWII era formalized the relationship between employers and unions. The use of collective
bargaining agreements to resolve workplace disputes weakened unions and the power of workers.
Other actions, such as using collection bargaining as a form of substitution for direct action and
using it instead of the strike for grievance and arbitration procedure served , also has weakened
the unions and the power of workers. The rise of contractual or collective bargaining relationships
changed the dynamic of the workplace, shifting the power from the union side to towards the
employers. The perspective could best be argued suing Weber s theory and... Show more content on

C. Wright Mills defines the meaning of work for white collar workers. A white collar workeris an
educated person who performs non manual, professional, managerial, or administrative work. He
states White Collar stands, after sixty years, as the most comprehensive work that American
social science has produced in the study of the new middle class. classifying white collar workers
as the new middle class full of intellectuals in intermediate positions, to what he describes as the
enormous file of clerical labor. C. Wright Mills connects the meaning of work for white collar
workers to the types of leisure activity they pursue. Modern white collar workers attach an extrinsic
value to their wage work because they work to live. Jobs have lost their intrinsic value due to the
emptiness that comes with the job. For example, white collar workers are subjected to
manipulations and control of their superiors thus in return; they lose their creativity and freedom of
action.
White collar workers are a different breed of workers. The results derived from work that modern
white collar workers value includes status, power and wages. At times, these white collar jobs hold
no true meaning to white collar workers rather it the monetary value that drives productivity. This
money is means to a different life outside of work.

Telecommunication Is The Real Face Of The Advances Of...
Telecommunications
Telecommunication is the real face of the advances in Information Technology (IT). In fact, the
overwhelming advances that humankind has seen in the last decades in IT (internet, telephone,
television and radio broadcasting, satellite communication) are effects of the advance of
Telecommunications (normally the word is used in plural because it encompasses different types of
means of transmission). From the electrical telegraph of Samuel Morse (1837) to the transmission
of voice and image over the Internet (Skype, Hangout etc.), the Telecommunications has developed
too much and affected the world and the human being behavior.
Telecommunications means the transmission of information between two stations. Basically, a
transmitter, a receiver and an electrical mean channel are enough to complete a telecommunication
process. The channel can be a cable, electromagnetic waves or fiber optics. This system is
interconnected in a very large network on which all communications in the world is done. A simple
fixed telephone call, a cellphone call, a satellite transmission, an e mail, a download of a music,
everything is possible because of this network.
Even though the main goal of this network is the communication, it can go beyond this. Actually,
this large system supports the international trade, the online education, the exchanging of messages
(e mail, short message), the Internet, the bank transactions and many other services. Besides, a new

What Occurred During The Renaissance
Giancarlo Velasquez
The Renaissance
The renaissance was a period of major advancements. From art to technology and from literature to
architecture. Artists, inventors, playwrights, architects all played huge rolls during the renaissance.
The reason why the renaissance happened was because towards the end of the Black Plague
many people were dying so they wanted to change their lifestyle. People wanted to change the way
they do things. There wasn t just one Black Plague there were a bundle of them. Since they were
tired of many people dying they chose to change how they do things. Art had a major impact during
the renaissance. The most famous artists that made a huge impact in art were Michelangelo,
Rapheal, Donatello, Leonardo, and Masaccio. You may remember the first four artist named from
the hit tv show/movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (tmnt). But your probably thinking who the
heck is Masaccio. Well he is the guy that Michelangelo, Rapheal, Donatello, Leonardo all learned
from. The funny thing is that Masaccios nickname is the splinter which is also from the tv show.
But never mind the whole tv show and what not. Let s focus on how did Michelangelo, Rapheal,
Donatello, Leonardo change art or advanced art. Michelangelo was ... Show more content on

were many and I mean many inventions during that helped change people s daily lives. Some
inventions that were made during the renaissance is the printing press, mechanical clock, small

had a huge role is because it changed people s lives for example the mechanical clock with out it
people would be late for school or work, or printing press without it the bible would ve never been

Aiding In Racial Profiling
Racial profiling occurs when a police officer selectively focuses on a person s race where the
harass, detain, or arrest the individual (Cooper,2001). Racial profiling is a serious issue that has
gone rampant in the united states today; people being scared to do everyday activities because of
their raceis terrorizing and they culprits should be look at as terrorist. The government system is
not set up to benefit the minorities, the iron triangle is a connection of groups that are placed to try
and benefit the people, but sometimes they only benefit themselves and people alike. Aiding in
racial profilingis an institutionalized form of terrorism and needs to be stopped at the source, and
these are the steps we should take. In the case of the Milwaukee Bucks basketball player John
Henson who was just trying to buy some jewelry he experienced racism. Henson was going to a
jeweler to buy some merchandise and wasn t allowed into the store because he store workers felt
intimidated. Henson was a 6 11 millionair basketball player that looked scary to the store
workers, so for the workers to protect themselves they locked the doors and ran to the back of their
office where the employes proceed to call the police. When the police arrive at the scene they have
to suspect that Mr. Henson was dangerous in some way due to the description given, the police
officers were able to asses the situation and confirm that Henson did not mean any harm. The
profiling of Henson was

Essay On George Orwell Use Of Propaganda
Many people fear that the world will become like the world of 1984, yet they are oblivious that it
is slowly becoming more like it every day. They fear for their privacy and free thought while the
government is keeping track on their every move. The world s quickly advancing technology is
bringing it closer to the world of Big Brother than we have ever been before. This growth is
evident in the world of media with the overuse of propaganda. In United Statespolitics especially,
candidates and the governmentuse ads that they want you to believe. They attempt to persuade the

Big brother watched the citizens through the millions of telescreens throughout the nation that
followed everyone s every move (Orwell). Through these ridiculous means, they could easily
track down criminals or people they thought might become a criminal. Even if it might help the
government, it ultimately is completely inappropriate and violates many rights a citizen should
have. They should not be watched while they sleep or be worried to look a certain way in fear of
being arrested. Sadly our country is turning to the same measures to catch criminals. In Long
Beach they combined the retail cameras and security cameras to use in order to catch criminals,
a total of 400 cameras (Winton). Although they say these are being used only when they suspect
criminal activity, who is to say they aren t watching around the clock. Long Beach police
department can easily watch the city s people throughout the whole day whether or not there is
criminal activity. This is a perfect demonstration of how close we are getting to the world of Big
Brother. People are beginning to see how we are following in the steps of Orwels novel, using it
as a guide to shape our world rather than an example of what not to do. The world together is
growing more technologically advanced, which is both great and dangerous. Where we take the
technology will determine whether we live in an individual world or a horrible world like the one in

Polygamy in the United States
Polygamy is the practice of having multiple spouses at one time, and has been considered a
controversial social and legal topic in society, gaining attention as a subject in which multiple
opinions are held. As the topic has become a part of mainstream culture through media accounts of
polygamist families by news outlets and reality television, confusion has emerged in reference to its
main characteristics and legitimacy as a form of marriage. However, this kind of marriage is
intriguing because it enters more than two individuals into the union, potentially causing a change
in husband wife dynamics. In particular, polygamywith multiple wives proves to be more common
in media accounts of these relationships. That being said, appreciating this form of marriage, as in
any union, requires an understanding of how the different social players behave and the general
interactions of the husband wife relationships. Likewise, it is important to understand how this type
of union exemplifies the typical United States ideals of marriage. With more information regarding
polygamist marriages, society can better understand its similarities and differences from normative
patterns, ultimately eliminating some of the stigma placed on the husbands and wives of these
relationships.
Literature Review Like many social trends, marriage in the United States has changed over time.
Investigation of these trends can aid in the comprehension of the status of marriage in our society,

Buffalo Wild Wings Buffalo Wild Wings first opened their doors in 1982 with one restaurant in
Columbus, Ohio and has grown into a popular, mainstream restaurant with a store in every state

(About Buffalo Wild Wings. (n.d.).) Service Theater Framework The service experience
includes four different aspects that must be understood before analyzing the experience:
services setting, the service workers, the service customers, and the service process. The service
setting is where the action or service performance unfolds (Fisk et al, 2014, p. 26). The setting
can also be what the customer is unable to see (backstage). The service workers are those who
work together to create the service for the customers including the seen and unseen. The service
customers are the person, group, or organization receiving the service. Finally, the service
process is the series of events during the service received (Fisk et al, 2014, p. 26). Service Issues

Procrastinator And Slacker Analysis
All people spend at least a little time in the four of quadrants: procrastinator, prioritizer, yes man,
and slacker. The quadrants represent your habits on importance and urgency in relation to your
priorities. Although I spend most of my time as a prioritizer, I can remove the yes man from my
life by being a better prioritizer and learning how to say no to people. The first and fourth
quadrants, procrastinator and slacker, are the two worst quadrants to be in. Both leave you with
low quality performance, stress, guilt, and a lot of wasted time. Procrastinators and slackers do not

The Bride Price By Bunchi Emecheta
The Bride Price is a novel written by Nigerian writer Bunchi Emecheta, which addresses the
problems of women in post colonial Nigeria. Published in 1976, it illustrates the life of the Odia
family and the hardships that they go through. Bunchi Emecheta is successful in portraying the
difficulties that women faced in that time and place. The protagonist, Aku nna Odia, is an
unmarried teenage girl who is kidnapped by Okoboshi Obidi s familyand forced to marry him.
Later in the novel, she is rescued by Chike, a man that she falls in love with and marries. She is
not supposed to be with Chike because it is shameful to her family because he is a descendent of
slaves. Aku Nna later dies in childbirth and Chike is left with his baby, Joy. One of her last
statements is that only in death will she win her freedom. Although this novel is a fictional story,
Emecheta weaves in semi autobiographical elements and situations. She illustrates the theme of
male dominance and women compliance to men. The men in Nigerian societies are expected to
be strong and powerful, while the women are expected to be the opposite. The men act as the
head of the family as they are the ones who make all the money and decisions. Women on the
other hand were demanded to give birth to healthy males and do household work. In the novel,
Ezekiel Odia, the father of the Odia family, works a full time job at the Loco Yard and when he

end of summer, Trap Queen had reached eleven million plays on SoundCloud, which led to a record

In contrast, Spotify s direction is to provide its listeners with songs for everyone of life s moment.
Spotify accomplishes this goal by creating playlists for specific genres and moods. For example,

very similar. Specifically, between the book and the movie Fahrenheit 451, the two share many
of the main ideas, but have multiple differences. A couple of the top major differences in the
movie are that Clarisse doesn t die and they omit to tell or mention that there is a war going on.
Some similarities are the characters personalities and looks. All of these things have impact on
how the movie and book contrast and compare to each other. Characters in the book and movie
are mostly the same to each other. For example, Mildred/Linda and Clarisse are almost exactly the
same to their character in the movie and book. Clarisse is still curious and imaginative while,
Mildred/Linda is still shallow. In the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, they both have an important role in both types of fahrenheit 451. Clarisse s role is to
ask Montag questions to make him realize that the society isn t good for him. In the book,
Clarisse s death is important because it makes Montag realize that what she was saying about
the society was right nevertheless, they didn t kill Clarisse in the movie. So in the end, Mildred s
/Linda s role was very akin to Clarisse s role. Her role was to help him realize that the society was
bad by being the example. One quote that shows that Clarisse is role is to make Montag realize
that the society isn t good is I don t mix. It s so strange. I m very social indeed. It all depends on
what you mean by social, doesn t it? Social to me means talking about things like this. Or talking
about how strange the world is. Being with people is nice. But I don t think it s social to get a

Veganism Persuasive Speech
We have so many problems in our world today, but none of us want to address them because the
solutions are not easy for some people. A problem our world faces today is obesity. Obesity
could easily be cured by becoming a vegan. Another reason I have for the world to go vegan is
the slaughter of animals. None of us would allow our dog or our dog s puppies to be taken away
and then slaughtered, so we shouldn t kill any animals. We shouldn t get to decide which animals
get a happy life or which animals get their throats slit. The last major issue the world is facing
today is global warming. Leonardo DiCaprio found out global warming is real by interviewing
scientists who had found proof of global warming. One of their answers to global warming was
becoming a vegan. The pollution set off from dairy and meatfarms is so immense that producing
them is hurting our world. To stop the obesity of the world, the slaughter of animals, and the
global warming crisis, everyone should go vegan. The percentage of obese people in our world
is insanely high. According to Fox News Health, they say that over one third of our population is
obese, ( 30 ). There are many different ways to fix this problem but the best way for... Show more

I stated a way we can solve obesity. If we care enough about animals, we will stop the
slaughtering and torturing. If we think global warming is an issue, then we need to stop eating
animals and animal products. If we want our legacy to live on and for this world to still be here
for the rest of time, then we need to change our ways. We need people to step up and start
showing the world how we should treat our planet and animals. This isn t an easy transition for
most people, but if we want our planet to be healthy again we need to take this into our own hands.
Becoming vegan is a very good solution to the eating habits of mankind, the killing of innocent
animals, and global

Compare And Contrast Charlie Chaplin And Buster Keaton
Both Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin have a very disparate audience and appeal to different
types of people. Charlie Chaplin s comedy is well suited for anyone who enjoys lively, cheerful
and slapstick comedy. This is the majority of people, therefore Chaplin would have had a much
larger audience. In a time period where there was war and the great depression, people would have
probably gravitated towards Chaplin more than Keaton. Chaplin s Little Tramp image was far more
recognized than Keaton s image. At the peak of his popularity, his mustachioed screen persona, the
Tramp, was said to be the most recognized image in the world. (Vishnevetsky, AVclub.com) But,
Keaton had, and still has, a large audience as well. Many did not understand

Bama Faustina Essay
Bama Faustina is the most distinguished Dalit fiction writer in Tamil, and one of the most
acclaimed of all Dalit women writers. She was born in Madras in 1958. Her autobiographical novel
Karukku was the first Tamil Dalit text on the Christian Dalit community, through which she rose to
fame. After the success of Karukku, Bama wrote Sangati and Kusumbukkaran.
In India, there is a huge campus of religion situated in the society. There are four major caste
divisions in India, Brahmin, Kshatriya, Vaishya and Shudra. The lowest caste people came under
the Shudra s. They are regarded as Dalits. These people are suppressed, humiliated, exploited,
discriminated and marginalized in every sphere of life. These people are also regarded as
untouchables. If the woman belongs to Dalit community, they suffer two types of discrimination:

And when I examined the lives of our women, I understood the reason. From the moment they
wake up, they set to work both in their homes and in the fields. At home they are pestered by
their husbands and children, in the fileds there is back breaking work besides the harassment of
the landlord. When they come home in the evening, there is no time even to draw breath. And
once they have collected water and firewood, cooked a kanji and fed their hungry husband and
children, even then they cant go to bed in peace and sleep until dawn. Night after night they must
give in to their husbands pleasure. Even if a woman s body is wracked with pain, the husband is
bothered only with his own satisfaction. Women are overwhelmed and crushed by their own
disgust, boredom and exhaustion, because of all this. The stronger ones somehow manage to
survive all this. The ones who don t have the mental strength are totally oppressed; they succumb to
mental ill health and act as if they are possessed by peys.

Understanding Piaget Theory And Information Processing Theory
The study of Cognitive theories has many different aspects that have been debated many years ago.
Developmental psychologists try to explain cognitive development approaches which describe the
process of human s thought. One of the developmental psychologist who studied on the area of
cognitive was Jean Piaget. Jean Piaget a Swiss psychologist was the first developmental researcher
who has extensive research on cognitive development. In addition, the revolution of Jean Piaget s
cognitive theory has changed the development psychologyforever. In fact, although this theory is
one of the most influential theories that have had a major impact on child s cognitive development,
many developmental psychologist has been criticized it as well(Miller,2007). Therefore, the
limitations of this theory made the developmental psychologists thinking of information processing
theory might complete Piaget s Theory(Miller,2007). Information processing theory is another
theory that was engaged in the era of cognitive development. It is possible to better understand
Piaget theory and Information Processing theory by comparing several important aspects of
developmental psychology: nature of humans, quantitative or qualitative, and nature or nurture.
Piaget Cognitive Theory
To begin with, Piaget s cognitive theory has four stages. According to Miller,2011 she states that
Piaget described each stage and referred them to the ability of human understanding. First stage is
the sensorimotor stage

Teen Suicide Prevention
Teens Suicide, Risk Factors, and Intervention Measures
Nothing is more devastating for a family or community to lose a young person to teen suicide.
Oftentimes, parents, classmates, siblings, and neighbors are left wondering whether they could
have done anything to prevent the spiraling of suicide thoughts and ultimately the death itself.
Preventing tragedies such as these require a proper understanding of suicide ideation and the risk
factors pushing the teen to a point of attempted suicide. That said, the reasons for attempted suicide
in teens can be quite complex. In general, the rate of suicide attempts in children is much lower,
but as they progress to become adolescents, the rate goes up sharply.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), suicide ranks third among the
leading causes of death in the United States for people aged between 15 and 24 years.
The risk of suicide has been shown to dramatically increase in instances where teens have access to
firearms. Statistics reveal that 60% of all the suicides in the United States are gun related.
Therefore, parents and guardians with guns in their homes should ensure they are unloaded and
safely locked out of reach of teens.
Apart from access to firearms, overdose resulting from over the counter prescriptions and self
medication are among the leading methods through which teens attempt and complete suicides. In
terms of gender, there is a stark difference between girls and boys. While the

In our new world of technology, substance abuse, mental health, and sexual practices are being
discussed in the news, television, radio, social media and even in school. Parents cannot control
what their children are learning outside their home as well as what is being taught in school.
Hence, the law provides the rights of parents and student that governs sensitive topics that are being
conducted in school. The Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment (PPRA) (20 U S C $ 1232h; 34

The Paradoxes Of Gender, By Judith Lorber
Judith Lorber s idea of gender meaning both sameness and difference is the key concept in Night
to His Day, an excerpt from her book The Paradoxes of Gender. In Night to His Day Lorber s
main goal in this piece is to show how gender is socially constructed. She does this by stating the
many components of genderwithin society that could be perpetrated either as a social institution
(sameness) or what gender is composed of at an individual level (difference). This paper will use
examples from Marilyn Monroes The Seven Year Itchto demonstrate these components of gender.
At it s time, The Seven Year Itch was highly received in popular culture. This popularity was in
large part because of the female lead, Marilyn Monroe. For quite sometime, ... Show more content

In this scene, Richard s wife explains to their son that his father couldn t leave on vacation with
them because he had to stay home to make the money. This shows that families, at least at New
York atn this time, were almost totally dependent on the husbands income. That isn t to say that
there were no women working in the city at this time, but in multiple scenes it is clear that the
women that stayed to work didn t have families, meaning they had to support themselves, and had
jobs that were less corporate or hands on.
Marilyn Monroe s character was an of one of these women. She is unmarried and mentions no
family throughout the movie. She stays in New York working as a model and actress and
makes just enough to get by. Even though she is not married to Richard, she still shows a sort of
dependence to him, like when she asks to stay the night for his air conditioning, which begins to
show an example of gendered personalities, or females depending on the males in their lives.
Another example of the division of labor would be Richard s secretary. Although her role is quite
minor and it is never explicitly stated, it can assumed that she is not married through Richard s
daydreams about her. She works in an office doing whatever Richard, her boss who s a male, tells
her to do, even though he treats her poorly.
Another example the compositions of gender as a social institute is gendered kinship. The first

ABSTRACT
In the present work, PVA Ag nanocomposite films with thickness 0.18 mm, constant silvercontent
(0.4 wt. %) and different time of reactions (0.1, 3, 5, 7, 9 h) were prepared by chemical reduction
methods. Surface topology, optical and electrical properties of PVA Ag nanocompositewere studied
using absorption spectroscopy, electrometer, atomic force microscope (AFM) and
photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy were used to characterize the prepared nanocomposites.
Optical absorption coefficient studies showed a peak at 427 nm for all samples, in addition to the
peak at 200 nm for undoped PVA film. There is observable change in the absorbed intensity at 427
nm with the time of reaction. The refractive index was found increase with increasing the time of
reaction. It was found that the root mean square (RMS) roughness. Frank poole emission is the
prevailing transport mechanism for all samples. While PL intensity at 427 nm increase as the time
of reaction is increased.

Mixing Bowl Depicting Dueling Scene From The Trojan War
Storytelling Through The Ages Art tells a story. No matter how you swing it there s a rhyme or
reason as to why it was created. Ancient art is no exception to this especially when it comes to
the ancient Greeks and the Chinese. Mixing Bowl Depicting Dueling Scene from the Trojan War
and the Nine Dragons scroll, though seemingly different have a lot more in common with each
other than initially visible. Chinese scroll art starts with mounting the backs of silks with paper
and pasting them before creating the borders of the scroll. The whole scroll is then backed before
the roller or fittings are attached. This process could take weeks or months. There are five different

The process consisted of throwing the pieces on the wheel then joining them together with slip.
Then the decorations were added. There are two main ways that Greek pottery was decorated,
red figure and black figure. Black figure is when a alkali potash or soda, which is clay with
silicon content, and black ferrous oxide of iron is added to create the figures on the vessel. The
opposite is true for Red figure. This is when the black was added to create all the lines, leaving
the figures red. The Mixing Bowl Depicting Dueling Scenes from the Trojan War is a red figure
vessel that tells two related stories on each side. On side A, the MFA Boston website says the
story is this: His death at the hands of Achilles was described in the Aethiopis, a lost epic poem.
Achilles and Memnon wear corselets covered with plates of scale armor. Achilles carries a
Theban shield, with deep, semi circular notches; the device on the front is not visible but Memnon

`` Pride `` By John Aquinas
When one hears the word pride , one would rarely imagine a modest person who devotes their time
to volunteer work and philanthropy. Typically, one would picture an arrogant politician or a movie
star, a person so self absorbed that they almost entirely ignore the needs of those around them.
However, even the humblest acts of virtuecan arise from prideas well. The story of Icarus, the boy
who became entranced with his own pride and flew too close to the sun, is told time and time
again; however, there is another story of pride one hears less often, the person who takes pride
in their own humility. Rather than take pride in typical attributes such as wealth, prestige, or
even appearance, these people take pride in their modesty and virtue. In this way, pride comes
from an unexpected source and is difficult to avoid since it takes occasion even from good deeds
(Aquinas 7). While the other six deadly sins present both helpful and harmful characteristics of the
sin, pride is complex in corrupting even the most well intentioned actions. At first, it would seem
that humility would be the opposite of pride since it is defined as, having a lowly opinion of
oneself ( Humility ). However, there are also occasions in which a person corrupts the virtue by
using it to enhance their image and view it as an example of their own excellence. For example,
although most of those volunteering at the soup kitchen want to improve their community or
provide to those less fortunate, there

data against cyber attacks.
Figure 1: Map Display of international cyber attacks. Introduction
In recent years, Cybercrime has increased radically and it is becoming more vital for people to
grant protection on their computers and data just as they do with anything else they deem needs to
be secured. The improved rate for the need of security also applies to conceptual institutes of small
businesses. Small businesses keep record of client, personal, product, and explicit company finance

Analysis Of What More Can I Say From The 1991 Musical...
What More Can I Say from the 1991 musical Falsettos is a song which expresses one man s love
for his partner in a heartfelt way. The song is written from the point of view of Marvin, a father
who has rediscovered love for his boyfriend, Whizzer. Throughout the song, the authors, James
Lapine and William Finn, use common metaphors about love to display Marvin s emotions and
confusion. In stanza one, for example, lines four and five, Marvin states ...but when he sparkles,
the earth begins to sway... which is a metaphor for the fact that he finds himself lost in Whizzer
and his affection for him. The lyrics of the song make it easy to identify the its tone, which is
affectionate and caring. In stanza two, lines three and four, comes the line

keeping aside the high stakes bluffing. Though poker pros are called sharks hunting for fishes in
poker sea but this do not applies in real poker. Poker pros are basically angler fish as they have to
plan their moves with a math degree. So, you do not have to attack weak players in every game, but
actually have to sit and wait for a decent hand to strike it rich. Thus, poker as a profession involves
patience and attrition. The successful poker pros plays only 20 percent of the hands while in ...

And poker pros are, in reality, immune to ups and downs of the game. They enjoy the unique
lifestyle that the game has to offer but also love the technical and analytical part of the game. This
trains them to face the bad parts, of poker career and personal life, effortlessly without much
trouble. Now you may be thinking how? Poker is a skill game that teaches you how to deal with
daily life problems by training you in humility, tilt control and patience. When something unlucky
happens in your personal life, you are ready to face it upfront. Further you know how to react to
that problem which has occurred because of that plain dumb luck, and how to move on with it. It is

Last Mile Health Research Paper
Africa is usually thought of a poor continent. A continent pitted by famine, droughts, floods, and
sickness. The last Mile Health charity is trying to help the outlook of health in Africa. They are
trying to get health care to the rural communities of West Africa, because of several reasons
since health was beginning to be worse by the years in the early 2000 s. At the end of the civil
war in Liberia there were only fifty doctors to treat the ill. If you lived in city areas you could
have lived. If you lived in rural areas you would have died needlessly, from easy to fix situations.
Last Mile Health helps because they want to achieve a vision of a healthy work for everyone,
everywhere, everyday. They work with government and other partners

Fashion And Its Effect On Society
For many centuries people have put thought and effort into the type of clothing that they wear.
The idea of wearing different clothing gave people a way to stand out and be different from
others. Fashion is not just the clothing that people chose to wear, it is about the people wearing it
and the choices that they have made. Clothing has become a part of self expression. The reason
that clothing even exists is because of social and societal norms. Many people believe that the way
you dress can say a lot about you. Whether you are underdressed or underdressed, fashionis always
something that others tend to have an opinion on. But is fashion actually important? Does the
way that we dress and present ourselves really have an effect on others? Many will say yes,
fashion does matter. First impressions tend to make a lasting impact on the way that we think
of other people. If we are not dressed to societies standard of presentable, we can make a bad
impression. Fashion can also be a form of expression. Whether it is a cultural expression or
personal. It is seen as an art form that many take very seriously. Others may say no, fashion is
seen as frivolous and a refection of a materialistic society. Personally, I believe that fashion is very
important because not only is it a form of self expression, it also says a lot about who we are as a
person by the choices that we make. If everyone wore the same thing, there would be no variety in
our society. Imagine how boring life would

Personal Statement On Losing Weight
There is a goal that I have been trying to achieve since for as long as I have been aware of my
body. Sometimes I succeed, most of the time I don t. I have many goals, they always grow and
change along with me while I grow and change, but there is one goal that seems to stay
consistent, and I have no doubt that it is one that I will continue to have late into womanhood. I,
like many, always want to shed the pounds. Losing weight has been difficult for me, something I
assumed would happen observing the women in my family. On the other hand, gaining weight
seemed to happen every time I breathed around food. I first want to mention that I have learned
to not be so rigid with these goals, and to not expect a lot of change right away. When I was a
freshman in high school, I dropped twenty pounds, and fairly easily I might add. I didn t eat
much, I exercised often; I won t say it was the healthiest diet in the world. I tried to replicate it
when I got heavier sophomore year, then again in junior, then senior. Before leaving for college
it dawned on me that I cannot expect my body to be able to withstand now, what it could at
fourteen. At fourteen I hadn t even developed breasts, hips, and the general curvy stature that my
mother would passed on to me. So with acceptance in mind of the body type I have, I spent the
following years up to now eating and exercising in ways that favor my body type. Of course, just
saying I want to drop twenty pounds won t make the weight come off.

The Characteristics Of Child-Directed Speech ( CDS )
Talking to children has always been fundamental to language development, but new research
reveals that the way we talk to children is key to building their ability to understand and create
sentences of their own. The exaggerated speech we naturally use with young children is a special
register often called motherese (Medical Xpress , 2011). Moreover, child directed speech (CDS)
plays an important role in language acquisitionbecause while modifying and adjusting speech to a
child, this keeps their attention and meets the needs of providing understanding to the young
addressee.
Child directed speech (CDS), also referred to as infant directed speech (IDS) or motherese is a
speech register that is characterized by pitch and intonation, slower speech rates with pauses in
between words, shorter simple sentences and frequent repetition (O Brien, 2017). Moreover, the
role child directed speech (CDS) plays in language acquisition is that it modifies and adjusts
speech directed to children and keeps their attention as well as meets the needs of providing
understanding to the young addressee (Clarke, p. 45).
This paper will examine the cultural variations embedded in child directed speech (CDS) and how
the characteristics of child directed speech (CDS) differ cross culturally. Specifically, this essay
will show evidence of cultural variation from several case studies by focusing on the differences
and similarities in prosodic characteristics within child directed speech (CDS)

Lewis Carroll s Wonderland
Unbeknown to many, Alice in Wonderland borrows a lot from the reality of its author. As a matter
of fact, Alice in Wonderland has as much to do with its author as it has to do with creativity. Lewis
Carroll s beliefs are written all over the story as one navigates through the alternate reality he
presents in the novel. Before exploring the evidence of Lewis Carroll s spiritual beliefs in Alice, it
is important to understand what actually constitutes Lewis Carroll s beliefs. Notably, other than
being an author, Lewis was an Anglican clergyman, a mathematician and a talented formal logician.
Other than studying at Christ ChurchOxford, he went ahead to lecture at the same institution
(Auerbach, 1973). Indeed, this brief history presents an individual whose life is deeply founded in
religion. Conventionally, religion is founded on three fundamental principles, that is, the existence
of an alternate reality, belief in supernatural force, and of course, the conquest of good over evil.
These form the foundations of religion and are indeed, the very tenets upon which Alice in
Wonderland is founded. As a matter of fact, in his book The Gospel in Disney, Longfellow (1993)
asserts that Christian lessons are learned from Alice in Wonderland.
In Alice in Wonderland, Lewis presents and entirely alternate reality. Alice finds herself in a world
other than the one in which she lives. At the very start of the story, Alice finds herself in distress.
From this set up, Lewis akin to his

Examples Of Overcoming Strengths In Life
The struggle you re in today is developing the strength you need for tomorrow Robert Tew.
Success is getting to a good place in life, despite past obstacles. We all have a chance to be
successful even though there are hardships that we may experience along the way. In the book, A
Child Called It, the Netflix TV series Shameless, and the biopic All Eyez on Meeach depict the
lives of individuals who overcome obstacles in life. My favorite works of art, feature characters
that have struggled to overcome obstacles in order to gain success.
My favorite book, A Child Called It, is about a boy who was physically, verbally and mentally
abused by his mother. David s mother struggles to treat her son with love, and respect. First,
David was physically abused by his mom. For example, David s mother would beat him, and
make him eat his brothers feces. As a child, David felt worthless, and he wanted his mother s love,
but instead he was beaten and threatened as if he was less than human. Next, David endured verbal
abuse from his mother; throughout the book there are many instances were David s mother
would curse, and call him terrible names. Lastly, David had to deal with psychological torture
from his mother. David suffered from the emotional scars that his mother left behind. He never
felt what it was like to be loved by a parent, David only knew what it was like to be hurt by one.
The mental abuse that David endured will forever impact his life, but his situation made him a
stronger person. David has turned the abuse he experienced as a child in books to share his story.
Shameless, my favorite TV series, is filmed on the Southside of Chicago. It features a dysfunctional
family with everyday struggles, such as problems with friendships, and financially. First, Shameless
demonstrates the complexity of relationships. For example, one of the main characters Fiona has
had many boyfriends. She hasn t found the right man yet, but from what she has experienced with
men she has grown mentally through the series. Each character in Shameless has been through
there fair share of tests with friendships and relationships. But, the characters find a way to
overcome their issue. Next, the characters struggle to become

Sears Holdings Corporation and Denial Class Discussion Essay
Denial Class Discussion Questions I would suggest that you develop notes for these.
1. What is denial and what problems does it lead to?
Denial is how we pay attention to everything today; we are constantly making unconscious choice
about what to notice, and not to notice. It means when something happened and the person lies to
cover up or used to escape from the truth, According to the book, Denial is the unconscious calculus
that if an unpleasant reality were true, it would be too terrible, so therefore it cannot be true.
Denial today is all around us, if we ignore the obvious at a certain moment because we simply don
t want to confront it, it might lead to more problems. The longer we ignore it the more serious it ...

A P did not change its traditional policy, which was signing leases at a short term basis. When
the nation was growing wealthier, many people moved to suburbs and many malls were
developed, but when the developer asked for longer leases, A P refused to sign them and shut
itself out of the quickly growing market. In addition, A P abandoned the entire West Coast
market, which was a growing market as well and have huge potentials and opportunities. With the
television innovation, A P loses its consumer support as the growth of national television
advertising drives increasing customer demand for national brand products, while A P was
continuing emphasis of its private label marketing. A P also started the price war, which caused
the company had huge losses and eventually give away the stores. A P was not destroyed by fire,
it rusted. It believed that it had been the leader in this market for such a long time and kept denying
problems instead of avoiding the problem and fixing them; and eventually, it collapsed.

Marxist View On Gender Inequality
As a social institution, gender is a process of creating distinguishable social statuses for the
assignment of rights and responsibilities. As part of a stratification system that ranks these statuses
unequally, gender is a major building block in the social structures built on these unequal statuses.
As a process, gender creates the social differences that define women and men . In social
interaction throughout their lives, individuals learn what is expected, see what is expected, act
and react in expected ways, and thus simultaneously construct and maintain the gender order: The
very injunction to be given gender takes place through discursive routes: to be a good mother, to
be a heterosexually desirable object, to be a fit worker, in sum, to signify a multiplicity of
guarantees in response to a variety of different demands all at once (Butler, 1990: 45).
Members of a social group neither make up gender as they go along nor exactly replicate in rote
fashion what was done before. In almost every encounter, human beings produce gender, behaving
in the ways they learned were appropriate for their gender status, or resisting, or rebelling against
these norms. Resistance and rebellion have altered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unionised men who could easily be replaced by women collude in this process because it allows
them to monopolise the better paid, more interesting, and more autonomous jobs: Two factors
emerge as helping men maintain their separation from women and their control of technological
occupations. One is the active gendering of jobs and people. The second is the continual creation
of sub divisions in the work processes, and levels in work hierarchies, into which men can move in
order to keep their distance from women (Cockburn: 1985:

The Triangle Factory Fire Of 1911
The Triangle Factory Fire of 1911 The Industrial Revolution is remembered as a major turning
point in U.S. history. During this time, there were advancements in technology, an abundance of
natural resources, cheap labor and investment capital. Industrialization led to the development of
factories, which led to the increase in jobs for many immigrants. These advancements clearly
overshadowed the harsh working conditions for many of these factory workers. In 1911, The
Triangle Factory Fire was a clear representation of the dangers when the focus is on cheap labor
production instead of the wellbeing of the factory workers. The Triangle Waist Company,
manufactured women s clothing and was located in the heart of Manhattan. This company,
owned by Max Blanck and Isaac Harris, occupied the floors of the Asch Building. The factory
attracted many people in desperate need of work. This consequently led to the workers being
taken advantage of by paying them very low wages. They often worked excessively long hours
without adequate compensation, and the safety or work conditions were also of no importance.
Around the same time other factories were actually standing up and protesting the harsh working
conditions in what is known as sweatshops. Even after the cloakmakers strike of 1910, which
established a grievance system, most working conditions did not improve. Also a lot of the workers
were immigrant woman and did not have the confidence to stand up to the factory owners. The

Claiming an Education
1. What Am I Doing Here, and How Does Reading Adrienne Rich Help Me Begin to Answer My
Own Question? Adrienne Rich wrote a chapter on becoming a better person by claiming an
education instead of being passive and simply receiving one. Rich takes an aggressive approach
with her diction and advises people to change their mindset and be above average by being
breaking old habits and stereotypes. Since she is a well known feminist, her essay is directed
primarily towards women, but I feel that any person, male or female, could draw knowledge from
her essay to claim an education. Rich makes it clear that to claim an education you must take (your
education) as the rightful owner (71). She goes on to explain how she feels about education... Show

As humans, we tend to just want answers without actually putting in the time, effort, and work
required to be educated. We must be focused and stay with the positive mindset of being better
than others expectations. Rich emphasizes the importance of hard work when she says that
intellectual freedom...requires hard work (73). This struck me because it was obvious but also
something that people always forget. Sometimes we are unaware of what we get ourselves into.
We tend to think things won t be as hard as others say. To successfully claim your education it is
imperative that you approach every situation with confidence and aggression, so that you are
taken seriously. Rich says it is important to demand that you push yourself further showing that
settling for mediocrity is unacceptable (73). You must be able to take responsibility and be in
control of your own actions. In a way it is a self bettering process. All negative influences must
be cut off, and the only person to push you further is yourself. This process will show what
people are made of beyond receiving or claiming an education. It will prove what you are
capable of doing in the future. I think there is more to Adrienne Rich s essay Claiming an
Education. It is directed towards women with hopes of breaking the negative chain of passive
behavior. Whether Rich is aware of this, it is applicable to anyone who wishes to be

A Day For Celebration
It was the Day of First Song, and celebrations echoed throughout Adiha. Her residents, supporters
of the Church, packed Civic Square and its adjacent streets. The mingling of their cheers and
jeers created a festive melody that was contagious to all. White fluorescent orbs lined every
street and hung from every doorway, fighting off nights impending darkness in recognition of
Aeskar. Elm Tower watched over the people, a bright white beacon in the fresh spring air. And
this was fitting, as it was a day for celebration. A visitor entering the city would likely be swept
up by the crowd, add their own melody to the Katharos songs, and drink merrily through the next
morning. They might even lose themselves in the cities joy, having drained one too many mugs
before stumbling through an inn door. And they would not be judged for their befuddled state, as
it was indeed a day for celebration. It was on days of celebration like these that people forgot.
They might cherish time spent with friends, laugh at their own blunders, and even chance at love.
But the greatest joy of the night was in forgetting the small hassles that plagued everyday life. The
luxury of discarding these weary thoughts, even for a single day, was priceless. AndorianAges did
not know this luxury. He looked down on the crowds from Elm Tower. Shackled by iron chains and
reputation, wishing that for one moment he could forget the troubles that consumed his life. And
so he stared, fruitlessly feigning

Analysis Of Honesty Pass It On
In a fast paced stream of events through alleys and with a police car, all underscored by the Black
Eyed Peas song, Where is the Love, we watch the drama unfold and wonder if the young man is
stealing or returning the purse, until the last triumphant moment. (Values.com). Honesty. What does
this mean to you? In 2012 the organization Values aired a commercial named Honesty, Pass It On.
Although this commercial is slightly aged, the message couldn t be more powerful. The Values
commercial I chose to analyze shows that honesty is the most important value that we possess
because it allows people to trust us. I believe that being honest allows people to grow and advance
further into the best life possible.
The minute long commercial was first aired in 2012 to teach its audience that honesty is a trait that
everyone should possess. In the commercial, in Honesty Pass It On, there is a boy and a woman
sitting at a bus stop. The boy is simply loitering and listening to music while the woman is
awaiting her bus. The boy is first perceived as an average street thug or punk rock, skater boy. As
the bus arrives, the woman rises from her seat and accidentally leaves her purse. As average
minded people of society, it is automatically assume that the boy will snatch her purse and run with
it. The producer of the commercial wants the audience to think that. Values desires for the audience
to quickly think the boy is robbing the woman of her personal belonging. They do this by

Persuasive Essay On Snowboarding
Waking up and looking outside, the snow is several inches deep covering the grass, the street, and
the snow banks are knee high. These are the perfect conditions, for one thing, snowboarding. A
snowboarder knows the prime conditions to ride and will do anything to make sure they are on the
mountain ready to go when those conditions arise. In preparation for snowboarding, you ll need to
consider the temperature, where you will be riding, and what type of gear is needed for the
conditions. When preparing yourself for the long day ahead, you must consider the temperature in
which you will be riding. You will want to constantly watch the local weather station, find the next
snowfall, and following temperatures. If the snowfalls when it is too warm, it will have the chance
to melt and refreeze into a crusty layer of ice. If the snow falls when it s too cold, it will come
down very hard and will not be the powdery snow that is desired. The best time to hit the
mountain in the morning after a big snowfall, and the temps around 25 30 degrees. When the
snowfalls at night, it is already there in the morning and it does not have to be fought and rode
through during the day. This can make the day much more enjoyable and keep you warmer.
The places you will be riding can have a big impact on how the ride will go. A day snowboarding
in the Midwest can be really hit or miss depending on location. In the Midwest, there is not very
much snow that falls naturally. This forces resorts to make their own man made snow. This snow
tends to be a bit harder and more like small ice balls rather than really powdery snow. Being in the
midwest there is also frequent climate changes. This can make the temperatures change rapidly and
can make the snow melt and refreeze, or become very hard just overnight.
When riding out in the west, the conditions are a lot more predictable and can be a very good
time. Out west in the Wyoming or Colorado area, the snowfall is much greater and comes in a
totally different shape and size. The snow that falls there is in very big snowflakes, with multiple
feet of snow every single week. Since they do not need to make snow, the conditions are all natural
which allows for a lot smoother

The Importance Of The Scientific Method
The scientific method in the twenty first century represents a major role of testing our hypothesis
whether it is in the industry, school, market, or in our lives. We are constantly coming up with
theories or ideas and conducting experiments on these ideas without even realizing it. The
scientific method allows us to expand our knowledge in certain fields that we are mastered in or
helps us learn new possibilities that we are not aware of. The use of chemistry and the scientific
methodis important to incorporate into our lives and society.
The Scientific Method
The scientific method is defined as a way of learning that emphasizes observation and
experimentation to understand the world (Tro, 2015, p. 6). The scientific method involves major
characteristics such as an observation. When making an observation, it can simply be by looking at
a sample with your eyes or by using instruments that can make observing a sample easier, such as a
microscope. Next, the scientist would formulate a hypothesis. Formulating a hypothesis is simply
stating what the scientist observed and what they want to explore and measure. Following the
creating of a hypothesis comes conducting an experiment using the hypothesis. Conducting an
experiment is a highly controlled observations designed to validate or invalidate hypotheses (Tro,
2015, p. 6). Lastly, the scientific method concludes with laws and theories. In some cases,
experiments and observations can lead to the development of a

  • 2. An Exploration of Media and its Effects on Social... Media is becoming an important aspect of today s society. Each and every day, people interact with media of many differentforms. Media is commonly defined as being a channel of communication. Our everyday lives are saturated by radio, television, newspapers, books, the Internet, movies, recorded music, magazines, and more. In the twenty first century, we navigate through a vast mass mediaenvironment unprecedented in human history. (Croteau and Hoynes, p. 3)This is also true when we say media companies do not impose their own control upon the information being supplied to media users. Since many people use media frequently, we can assume that it affects people. According to the text book Media/Society: Industries, Images, and Audience,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Media has taken on an all new meaning to me from just taking this class. I feel truly that this is the first class I can honestly say, I have learned something and grown because of what I have learned. Media now is much more than the entertainment, news and advertisements I once thought it was. We argue that the creators of media content have often reproduced the inequalities that exist in society based on race, class, gender and sexual orientation. (Croteau and Hoynes, p.195) As a society we are working our way toward a more equal society. As we know media is present in many aspects of our lives therefore if they reinstating some of the widely known inequalities, thus reinforcing these negative aspects of society. We are aware that the few media corporations that are out there are owned but successful, white men. So when they choose the shows/music/movies they want to produce these works, will include how they see the world. Thus the reinforcement of inequalities present in our society. So when society evolves into a more accepting community what happens to the media world? Creators of media products are often aware of this fact and use entertainment media to comment on the real social world. (Croteau and Hoynes, p.97) Race refers to the color/ethnic background of a person. There is no biological difference between an African American and a Caucasian person, ... • 5. The Role Of Recidivism In Prisons Routinely in the news are stories of ex convicts being arrested again, and sometimes for even more serious crimes than they had been convicted for. Currently he overall recidivism rate for Oklahoma Department of Corrections (ODOC) stands at 21 % (Oklahoma Department of Corrections, 2014). The recidivism rate is calculated on the number of Oklahoma Inmates that reenter the corrections department within three years of release. Faith based programs ministering within the prisonwalls, and partnering with local churches to aid the convicted with reentry do make a difference (Dodson, Cabage, Klenowski, 2011). The desired effect is not only a change in the life of the offender, but for their children, and in turn can reduce crimein the community. Indeed the overall recidivism rate is 21%, however the rate for offenders twenty five and younger when convicted is nearly one in three. Likewise, nationwide one in three inmates participate in some religious program during incarceration (Dammer, 2002). Studies have shown that inmates that are very active in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By providing reentry assistance, churches can not only assist adults recovering from a criminal lifestyle, but help prevent their children from walking the same path. The children of convicted criminals are at an increased risk of being convicted of a crime in their lifetime (Gatescambridge, 2012). On the other hand, children raised in a faith based community have a reduced risk of being convicted of a crime (Dodson, Cabage, Klenowski, 2011, p.371). By providing a community of support toward a new life for former inmates, the church may also be providing a new future for their children. With so many parents behind bars, many foster children are the children of inmates. Churches providing assistance with housing, job opportunities, and personal growth stand to help these kids have healthy childhoods with their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Sceptics Challenge Assess the Contextualist s response to the sceptic s challenge. The sceptics challenge revolves around whether we can have knowledge of the external world. The sceptic gives three scenarios where you are deceived; your senses are occasionally deceived for example for objects far in the distance size, dreams can be so realistic that you take them to be fact, and you could be deceived by a evil demon controlling your senses (adapted recently to the brain in a vat argument) and these are phenomenally indistinguishable from real life. The Contextualist responds to the sceptics challenge by saying we can both know a lot (Lewis, 1996) and know next to nothing (Lewis, 1996). The Contextualist justifies this by saying that we have two forms of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is due to knowledge being context dependent. A example of this is I know Peter is strong in an everyday context, however if you put him in a weightlifting competition Peter will no longer be considered strong as this is now relative to weightlifters. This therefore allows us to say we have knowledge of everyday things such as having two hands without considering the sceptics challenge due to knowledge being context dependent. I believe that this is a good method of dealing with the sceptics challenge as you don t have to engage with the sceptic to have everyday knowledge. To say Y knows X, X s evidence eliminates every possibility that not X. The differentiation comes through what you consider every possibility in a low form this is every reasonable possibility, and in a high context its every single possibility. This therefore alters the domain of what you have to reject as in a high context the domain is much larger than in a low context. I believe that this is a strength as you can interpret every situation in two different contexts, this conserves the power of knowledge in a high context and also allows us to discuss knowledge in a everyday context. This therefore refutes global (Cartesian) scepticism as it allows you to have some form of knowledge. However this can also be considered an issue as the rule of attention shows that it is very easy to lose knowledge by shifting from a low to a high context, as soon as you add a possibility you cannot ignore it and therefore you lose knowledge as soon as your attention is drawn to a sceptical scenario. This is a weakness as you could argue that children have more knowledge than philosophers, as they haven t been drawn to the attention of the sceptical scenario even though they only have low knowledge. This method is particularly useful in solving the sceptics ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Hindrance In The Civil Rights Movement Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity. That famous quote was spoken by Martin Luther King, who was a Civil Rights Movement leader. The Civil Rights movement was a movement that was led by many African Americans and the goal of the movement was to end legal racial segregation. Moreover, there was much ignorance shown by white authorities when there was an African American boycotting to prove a point. Therefore, it has been in the Supreme Court s hands many times to impact Civil Rights: Loving v. Virginia, Swann v. The Supreme Court s judgement was to hope it would be a fine experience. So this is the first district to try to stop the schools harass African Americans. The Regents of the University of California v. Bakke case was when a white student was denied admission to a medical school despite the student that made it had worse scores than him. He was put in because of a quota system. Therefore, the Supreme Court new that it was unfair that he makes the school with an immediate guarantee. Essay on Collective Bargaining in the Workplace David Brody argues that the rise of contractual or collective bargaining relationships during the post WWII era formalized the relationship between employers and unions. The use of collective bargaining agreements to resolve workplace disputes weakened unions and the power of workers. Other actions, such as using collection bargaining as a form of substitution for direct action and using it instead of the strike for grievance and arbitration procedure served , also has weakened the unions and the power of workers. The rise of contractual or collective bargaining relationships changed the dynamic of the workplace, shifting the power from the union side to towards the employers. A white collar workeris an educated person who performs non manual, professional, managerial, or administrative work. He states White Collar stands, after sixty years, as the most comprehensive work that American social science has produced in the study of the new middle class. classifying white collar workers as the new middle class full of intellectuals in intermediate positions, to what he describes as the enormous file of clerical labor. C. Wright Mills connects the meaning of work for white collar workers to the types of leisure activity they pursue. Modern white collar workers attach an extrinsic value to their wage work because they work to live. Jobs have lost their intrinsic value due to the emptiness that comes with the job. For example, white collar workers are subjected to manipulations and control of their superiors thus in return; they lose their creativity and freedom of action. White collar workers are a different breed of workers. The results derived from work that modern white collar workers value includes status, power and wages. At times, these white collar jobs hold no true meaning to white collar workers rather it the monetary value that drives productivity. This money is means to a different life outside of work. • 10. Telecommunication Is The Real Face Of The Advances Of... Telecommunications Telecommunication is the real face of the advances in Information Technology (IT). In fact, the overwhelming advances that humankind has seen in the last decades in IT (internet, telephone, television and radio broadcasting, satellite communication) are effects of the advance of Telecommunications (normally the word is used in plural because it encompasses different types of means of transmission). From the electrical telegraph of Samuel Morse (1837) to the transmission of voice and image over the Internet (Skype, Hangout etc.), the Telecommunications has developed too much and affected the world and the human being behavior. Telecommunications means the transmission of information between two stations. Basically, a transmitter, a receiver and an electrical mean channel are enough to complete a telecommunication process. The channel can be a cable, electromagnetic waves or fiber optics. This system is interconnected in a very large network on which all communications in the world is done. A simple fixed telephone call, a cellphone call, a satellite transmission, an e mail, a download of a music, everything is possible because of this network. Even though the main goal of this network is the communication, it can go beyond this. Actually, this large system supports the international trade, the online education, the exchanging of messages (e mail, short message), the Internet, the bank transactions and many other services. Artists, inventors, playwrights, architects all played huge rolls during the renaissance. People wanted to change the way they do things. There wasn t just one Black Plague there were a bundle of them. Since they were tired of many people dying they chose to change how they do things. Art had a major impact during the renaissance. The most famous artists that made a huge impact in art were Michelangelo, Rapheal, Donatello, Leonardo, and Masaccio. You may remember the first four artist named from the hit tv show/movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (tmnt). But your probably thinking who the heck is Masaccio. The government system is not set up to benefit the minorities, the iron triangle is a connection of groups that are placed to try and benefit the people, but sometimes they only benefit themselves and people alike. Aiding in racial profilingis an institutionalized form of terrorism and needs to be stopped at the source, and these are the steps we should take. In the case of the Milwaukee Bucks basketball player John Henson who was just trying to buy some jewelry he experienced racism. Henson was going to a jeweler to buy some merchandise and wasn t allowed into the store because he store workers felt intimidated. Polygamy in the United States Polygamy is the practice of having multiple spouses at one time, and has been considered a controversial social and legal topic in society, gaining attention as a subject in which multiple opinions are held. As the topic has become a part of mainstream culture through media accounts of polygamist families by news outlets and reality television, confusion has emerged in reference to its main characteristics and legitimacy as a form of marriage. However, this kind of marriage is intriguing because it enters more than two individuals into the union, potentially causing a change in husband wife dynamics. In particular, polygamywith multiple wives proves to be more common in media accounts of these relationships. That being said, appreciating this form of marriage, as in any union, requires an understanding of how the different social players behave and the general interactions of the husband wife relationships. Likewise, it is important to understand how this type of union exemplifies the typical United States ideals of marriage. With more information regarding polygamist marriages, society can better understand its similarities and differences from normative patterns, ultimately eliminating some of the stigma placed on the husbands and wives of these relationships. Achilles carries a Theban shield, with deep, semi circular notches; the device on the front is not visible but Memnon s shield has the head of a gorgon. • 34. `` Pride `` By John Aquinas When one hears the word pride , one would rarely imagine a modest person who devotes their time to volunteer work and philanthropy. Typically, one would picture an arrogant politician or a movie star, a person so self absorbed that they almost entirely ignore the needs of those around them. However, even the humblest acts of virtuecan arise from prideas well. The story of Icarus, the boy who became entranced with his own pride and flew too close to the sun, is told time and time again; however, there is another story of pride one hears less often, the person who takes pride in their own humility. Rather than take pride in typical attributes such as wealth, prestige, or even appearance, these people take pride in their modesty and virtue. In this way, pride comes from an unexpected source and is difficult to avoid since it takes occasion even from good deeds (Aquinas 7). While the other six deadly sins present both helpful and harmful characteristics of the sin, pride is complex in corrupting even the most well intentioned actions. At first, it would seem that humility would be the opposite of pride since it is defined as, having a lowly opinion of oneself ( Humility ). However, there are also occasions in which a person corrupts the virtue by using it to enhance their image and view it as an example of their own excellence. For example, although most of those volunteering at the soup kitchen want to improve their community or provide to those less fortunate, there ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The idea of wearing different clothing gave people a way to stand out and be different from others. Fashion is not just the clothing that people chose to wear, it is about the people wearing it and the choices that they have made. Clothing has become a part of self expression. The reason that clothing even exists is because of social and societal norms. Many people believe that the way you dress can say a lot about you. Whether you are underdressed or underdressed, fashionis always something that others tend to have an opinion on. But is fashion actually important? Does the way that we dress and present ourselves really have an effect on others? Many will say yes, fashion does matter. First impressions tend to make a lasting impact on the way that we think of other people. If we are not dressed to societies standard of presentable, we can make a bad impression. Fashion can also be a form of expression. Whether it is a cultural expression or personal. It is seen as an art form that many take very seriously. Others may say no, fashion is seen as frivolous and a refection of a materialistic society. The Characteristics Of Child-Directed Speech ( CDS ) Talking to children has always been fundamental to language development, but new research reveals that the way we talk to children is key to building their ability to understand and create sentences of their own. The exaggerated speech we naturally use with young children is a special register often called motherese (Medical Xpress , 2011). Moreover, child directed speech (CDS) plays an important role in language acquisitionbecause while modifying and adjusting speech to a child, this keeps their attention and meets the needs of providing understanding to the young addressee. Child directed speech (CDS), also referred to as infant directed speech (IDS) or motherese is a speech register that is characterized by pitch and intonation, slower speech rates with pauses in between words, shorter simple sentences and frequent repetition (O Brien, 2017). Moreover, the role child directed speech (CDS) plays in language acquisition is that it modifies and adjusts speech directed to children and keeps their attention as well as meets the needs of providing understanding to the young addressee (Clarke, p. 45). This paper will examine the cultural variations embedded in child directed speech (CDS) and how the characteristics of child directed speech (CDS) differ cross culturally. As a matter of fact, Alice in Wonderland has as much to do with its author as it has to do with creativity. Lewis Carroll s beliefs are written all over the story as one navigates through the alternate reality he presents in the novel. Before exploring the evidence of Lewis Carroll s spiritual beliefs in Alice, it is important to understand what actually constitutes Lewis Carroll s beliefs. Notably, other than being an author, Lewis was an Anglican clergyman, a mathematician and a talented formal logician. Other than studying at Christ ChurchOxford, he went ahead to lecture at the same institution (Auerbach, 1973). Indeed, this brief history presents an individual whose life is deeply founded in religion. Conventionally, religion is founded on three fundamental principles, that is, the existence of an alternate reality, belief in supernatural force, and of course, the conquest of good over evil. These form the foundations of religion and are indeed, the very tenets upon which Alice in Wonderland is founded. As a matter of fact, in his book The Gospel in Disney, Longfellow (1993) asserts that Christian lessons are learned from Alice in Wonderland. Success is getting to a good place in life, despite past obstacles. We all have a chance to be successful even though there are hardships that we may experience along the way. In the book, A Child Called It, the Netflix TV series Shameless, and the biopic All Eyez on Meeach depict the lives of individuals who overcome obstacles in life. My favorite works of art, feature characters that have struggled to overcome obstacles in order to gain success. My favorite book, A Child Called It, is about a boy who was physically, verbally and mentally abused by his mother. David s mother struggles to treat her son with love, and respect. First, David was physically abused by his mom. For example, David s mother would beat him, and make him eat his brothers feces. As a child, David felt worthless, and he wanted his mother s love, but instead he was beaten and threatened as if he was less than human. Next, David endured verbal abuse from his mother; throughout the book there are many instances were David s mother would curse, and call him terrible names. Lastly, David had to deal with psychological torture from his mother. David suffered from the emotional scars that his mother left behind. He never felt what it was like to be loved by a parent, David only knew what it was like to be hurt by one. The mental abuse that David endured will forever impact his life, but his situation made him a stronger person. David has turned the abuse he experienced as a child in books to share his story. Shameless, my favorite TV series, is filmed on the Southside of Chicago. It features a dysfunctional family with everyday struggles, such as problems with friendships, and financially. As part of a stratification system that ranks these statuses unequally, gender is a major building block in the social structures built on these unequal statuses. As a process, gender creates the social differences that define women and men . In social interaction throughout their lives, individuals learn what is expected, see what is expected, act and react in expected ways, and thus simultaneously construct and maintain the gender order: The very injunction to be given gender takes place through discursive routes: to be a good mother, to be a heterosexually desirable object, to be a fit worker, in sum, to signify a multiplicity of guarantees in response to a variety of different demands all at once (Butler, 1990: 45). Members of a social group neither make up gender as they go along nor exactly replicate in rote fashion what was done before. During this time, there were advancements in technology, an abundance of natural resources, cheap labor and investment capital. Industrialization led to the development of factories, which led to the increase in jobs for many immigrants. These advancements clearly overshadowed the harsh working conditions for many of these factory workers. In 1911, The Triangle Factory Fire was a clear representation of the dangers when the focus is on cheap labor production instead of the wellbeing of the factory workers. The Triangle Waist Company, manufactured women s clothing and was located in the heart of Manhattan. This company, owned by Max Blanck and Isaac Harris, occupied the floors of the Asch Building. The factory attracted many people in desperate need of work. This consequently led to the workers being taken advantage of by paying them very low wages. They often worked excessively long hours without adequate compensation, and the safety or work conditions were also of no importance. Around the same time other factories were actually standing up and protesting the harsh working conditions in what is known as sweatshops. Since she is a well known feminist, her essay is directed primarily towards women, but I feel that any person, male or female, could draw knowledge from her essay to claim an education. Sometimes we are unaware of what we get ourselves into. We tend to think things won t be as hard as others say. To successfully claim your education it is imperative that you approach every situation with confidence and aggression, so that you are taken seriously. A visitor entering the city would likely be swept up by the crowd, add their own melody to the Katharos songs, and drink merrily through the next morning. They might even lose themselves in the cities joy, having drained one too many mugs before stumbling through an inn door. And they would not be judged for their befuddled state, as it was indeed a day for celebration. It was on days of celebration like these that people forgot. They might cherish time spent with friends, laugh at their own blunders, and even chance at love. But the greatest joy of the night was in forgetting the small hassles that plagued everyday life. The luxury of discarding these weary thoughts, even for a single day, was priceless. AndorianAges did not know this luxury. He looked down on the crowds from Elm Tower. Shackled by iron chains and reputation, wishing that for one moment he could forget the troubles that consumed his life. And so he stared, fruitlessly feigning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 56. Analysis Of Honesty Pass It On In a fast paced stream of events through alleys and with a police car, all underscored by the Black Eyed Peas song, Where is the Love, we watch the drama unfold and wonder if the young man is stealing or returning the purse, until the last triumphant moment. (Values.com). Honesty. What does this mean to you? In 2012 the organization Values aired a commercial named Honesty, Pass It On. Although this commercial is slightly aged, the message couldn t be more powerful. The Values commercial I chose to analyze shows that honesty is the most important value that we possess because it allows people to trust us. I believe that being honest allows people to grow and advance further into the best life possible. The minute long commercial was first aired in 2012 to teach its audience that honesty is a trait that everyone should possess. In the commercial, in Honesty Pass It On, there is a boy and a woman sitting at a bus stop. The boy is simply loitering and listening to music while the woman is awaiting her bus. The boy is first perceived as an average street thug or punk rock, skater boy. As the bus arrives, the woman rises from her seat and accidentally leaves her purse. As average minded people of society, it is automatically assume that the boy will snatch her purse and run with it. The producer of the commercial wants the audience to think that. Values desires for the audience to quickly think the boy is robbing the woman of her personal belonging. They do this by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If not, let me first tell you what does carbon sequestration means. Carbon sequestration is the process involved in carbon capture and long term storage of atmospheric carbon dioxide. Mangroves are one of the largest carbon storage areas. Although mangroves occupy only 0.5% of the global coastal area, they contribute 10 15% to coastal sediment carbon storage and also export 10 11% of the particulate terrestrial carbon to the ocean. Their contribution to carbon sequestration is now perceived as a means for conservation and restoration and a way to help in mitigate the climate change. As from year to year, the global warming keeps increasing in thus if the mangrove are absent, don t you think that it will become worse than ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 58. Persuasive Essay On Snowboarding Waking up and looking outside, the snow is several inches deep covering the grass, the street, and the snow banks are knee high. These are the perfect conditions, for one thing, snowboarding. A snowboarder knows the prime conditions to ride and will do anything to make sure they are on the mountain ready to go when those conditions arise. In preparation for snowboarding, you ll need to consider the temperature, where you will be riding, and what type of gear is needed for the conditions. When preparing yourself for the long day ahead, you must consider the temperature in which you will be riding. You will want to constantly watch the local weather station, find the next snowfall, and following temperatures. If the snowfalls when it is too warm, it will have the chance to melt and refreeze into a crusty layer of ice. If the snow falls when it s too cold, it will come down very hard and will not be the powdery snow that is desired. The best time to hit the mountain in the morning after a big snowfall, and the temps around 25 30 degrees. When the snowfalls at night, it is already there in the morning and it does not have to be fought and rode through during the day. This can make the day much more enjoyable and keep you warmer. The places you will be riding can have a big impact on how the ride will go. A day snowboarding in the Midwest can be really hit or miss depending on location. In the Midwest, there is not very much snow that falls naturally. This forces resorts to make their own man made snow. This snow tends to be a bit harder and more like small ice balls rather than really powdery snow. Being in the midwest there is also frequent climate changes. This can make the temperatures change rapidly and can make the snow melt and refreeze, or become very hard just overnight. When riding out in the west, the conditions are a lot more predictable and can be a very good time. Out west in the Wyoming or Colorado area, the snowfall is much greater and comes in a totally different shape and size. The snow that falls there is in very big snowflakes, with multiple feet of snow every single week. Since they do not need to make snow, the conditions are all natural which allows for a lot smoother ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 59. The Importance Of The Scientific Method The scientific method in the twenty first century represents a major role of testing our hypothesis whether it is in the industry, school, market, or in our lives. We are constantly coming up with theories or ideas and conducting experiments on these ideas without even realizing it. The scientific method allows us to expand our knowledge in certain fields that we are mastered in or helps us learn new possibilities that we are not aware of. The use of chemistry and the scientific methodis important to incorporate into our lives and society. The Scientific Method The scientific method is defined as a way of learning that emphasizes observation and experimentation to understand the world (Tro, 2015, p. 6). The scientific method involves major characteristics such as an observation. When making an observation, it can simply be by looking at a sample with your eyes or by using instruments that can make observing a sample easier, such as a microscope. Next, the scientist would formulate a hypothesis. Formulating a hypothesis is simply stating what the scientist observed and what they want to explore and measure. Following the creating of a hypothesis comes conducting an experiment using the hypothesis. Conducting an experiment is a highly controlled observations designed to validate or invalidate hypotheses (Tro, 2015, p. 6). Lastly, the scientific method concludes with laws and theories. In some cases, experiments and observations can lead to the development of a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
