Cyber Attack Assignment
Early in this year, a cyber attack impacted some countries, including the UK. This attack caused
breaches in about 36 per cent of NHS organisations, which interrupted delivery of care by blocking
some technological devices (Morse, 2017). According to the National Audit Office (NAO), due to this
attack, more than 16,000 appointments were cancelled, which increased the cost to arrange these
appointments and seek support to restore data impacted in NHS devices (Morse, 2017). Facing this
kind of technological problem might seriously threaten data security and quality unless healthcare
organisations implement more monitoring and intensified support. Technical Requirements

To improve ICD 9 CM codes, Glance et al. recommend that other states in the US should follow the
successful experience of California and New York. These states coded the condition present at
admission (CPAA) to modify disease diagnosis once the patient was admitted to hospital, with the date
stamped (2006). A study Sundararajan et al. aimed to evaluate diagnosis timing indicators in the
International Classification of Diseases (ICD), developed by the World Health Organization and used
in Canada, the US and Australia (2015). This study indicated an improvement in diagnosis due to use
of coding, which promoted data accuracy and quality. Based on these successful experiences, the
WHO has encouraged these countries to develop standard coding guideline to help use these codes
effectively (Sundararajan et al., 2015). In addition, in the UK, the NHS has had success using OPCS 4
and ICD 10 standards across UK hospitals to evaluate the care provided based on epidemiological
analysis data by coding them (NHS Digital, 2017). ICD 10 is used to categorize diseases, while OPCS
4 is used during surgical procedures (NHS Digital, 2017). These standards collect data from medical
records, code the data and group them into lists to get rid of duplicates so the data will be functional to
use them in the future. According to NHS Digital, these standards help hospitals use statistical
epidemiological analysis to set their plans and budgets, which might

Psychoanalytic Theory Of Erik Erikson
Christina Gogh EECE 310 W Professor Rhodd 11/10/17 Erick Erickson Erik Erikson is known for his
psychoanalytic theory of psychosocial development comprising eight stages from infancy to
adulthood. Psychologist Erik Erikson, is a major contributor to developmental psychology, who
proposed a comprehensive theory of the ways that individuals develop their identity, a sense of who
they are, and society s influence on that development. Erikson stated that people go through crisis at
each stage of their lives. The stages each had a developmental task to be mastered. As an individual
resolved these various crises an individual would have a better harmony with their social environment
that they live in. If an individual could not successfully resolve a crisis, they would be out of step , and
the individual would have a greater difficulty in their dealing with a crisis in the future. Erikson did
however recognize that an individual can develop through a stage negatively and still go on with their
life. Erikson stated that each of the psychological stages have a basic conflict and important event
leading to growth. The theory was developed from his hundreds of clinical observations in children.
Identity is central to Erikson s thinking. Erikson coined the term identity crisis . Erikson lived such a
crisis in his own life. At a young age Erikson found out his father was really his stepfather. Erik
Homberger Erikson was born on June 15, 1902 in Frankfurt, Germany to his mother

Lorraine Hansberry Essay
Her first play, A Raisin In the Sun, is based on her childhood experiences of desegregating a white
neighborhood. It won the New York Drama Critic s Circle Award as Best Play of the Year. She was the
youngest American, the fifth woman and the first black to win the award. Her success opened the
floodgates for a generation of modern black actors and writers who were influenced and encouraged
by her writing.
Hansberry was born in 1930, the youngest of four children of Carl and Nannie Hansberry, a respected
and successful black family in Chicago, Illinois. Nannie was the college educated daughter of an
African Methodist Episcopal minister, and Carl was a successful real estate businessman, an inventor

Cover of A Raisin in the Sun
Hansberry used the success of A Raisin In the Sun as a platform to speak out for the American Civil
Rights Movement and for the African struggle to free itself from white rule. She helped raise money,
gave impassioned speeches and took part in panels and interviews to further these causes.
After her initial success she lived only six years and was able to complete only one more play, a movie
and a television script which was too racially controversial to be aired. Her second play, The Sign in
Sidney Brustein s Window, was received with mixed reviews and kept open for 101 performances
only by the contributions and support of the theatre community. It closed the night she died at 34 from
cancer. After her death Nemiroff finished and produced her final work, Les Blancs, a play about
African liberation.
Hansberry had begun to claim her identity as a lesbian in a 1957 letter to a lesbian periodical, The
Ladder. This information and her 1964 divorce from Nemiroff was not widely known at the time of
her death. In 1965 the Gay Liberation Movement did not exist and a woman could not claim such an
identity without major reprisals. It was not until the 1980s that feminist scholars began connecting

The United States Of America Essay
A crash in america may be coming a lot sooner than many people think. The United States of America
is facing problems a lot of people are either unaware of or just dont think its a big deal. Most of
america think that our economy and government is in alright financial shape, That may not be the case
though. America is in bad shape and it seems to be going down hill. America is declining in world
power as well and this is just another factor leading to a crash in the future. Other nations are growing
a lot more powerful than they have been in the past causing very big problems as a nation.
There are a lot of people that think they have very solid arguments that america is in fine shape and no
one has any reason to worry. They think the problems people talk about are no big deal amd that the
nation can deal with them no problem. These reasons have some truth but for the most part they have
a lot of things that other nations are in control of. The United States debt is over 19 trillion dollars,
that is an insane amount of money and it is going up rapidly. People think this is ok because the US
prints its own money so it is in control of its currency and debt. This is not a very good thing to think
because if the United States tried to get out of debt by printing trillions more dollars than usual there
would be a massive increase in inflation. Another argument is that Obama added to the debt to get the
United States out of a recession. He did do this but it also caused us to

Physical Activity And Mortality By Professor Ulf Ekelund
Physical Activity and Mortality
In the article, Physical Activity and Mortality, Professor Ulf Ekelund, a sports medicine professor who
works in the Medical Research Council (MRC) Epidemiology unit at the university of Cambridge in
the UK, and his colleagues report their findings about the impact lack of exercise has on health.
Professor Ekelund organizes his article in a manner in which may make it difficult to read, but he
certainly conveys his argument very well, through the use of ethos, pathos, and logos. In the article he
explains about the cohort study he has conducted on whether obesity, or inactivity is more likely to
lead death faster. After the study Ekelund concludes that even the slightest increase in activity has
been proven to be beneficial to health and increases life expectancy. He starts his article off with
background information on his study, and proceeds to add various topics and subtopics, as well as eye
grabbing tables and charts.
Professor Ekelund starts the article by giving an abstract containing an in depth view into the
background of his study, which states, The higher risk of death resulting from excess adiposity may be
attenuated by physical activity (PA). (Ekelund, 1). With this statement the reader gains a greater
understanding of what the article is going to be about: The correlations between obesity and death, and
exercise and death. In the abstract Ekelund also gives some insight into what the study will include,
the ages of the people,

Changes Through Time Analysis
After completing The Changes through Time activity I learned what kind of person I am, what kind of
person I was, and what kind of person I am going to be. To begin with, this activity made me realise
what kind of person I am. I learned that I am a very respectful, intelligent, and clam person. This is a
very important because I discovered who I really am. Secondly, this activity made me realise what
kind of person I used to be. I used to be a very stubborn and active person. This made me realise that
the changes have improved in many ways (attitude), but not all changes were positive, for example, I
became less active/athletic. Thirdly, this activity made me realise who I was going to become. I felt
like I was going to become a respectful, determined, and successful person. This activity has helped
me make life goals and also exceeded my determination. To summarize, in this activity I learned what
kind of person I am, what kind of person I was, and what kind of person I am going to be.

A major emphasis was placed on Human Resources in an effort to set up a more efficient HR system,
focus on organizational development and decision making systems that would support the company s
growth and development. Managers could be promoted or demoted. Organizational hierarchies were
no longer set in stone but rather flexible so that talented employees could have room for advancement
and people were placed in positions according to their skills and abilities. By 2004, CNOOC enhanced
their global vision by focusing on four strategies: synergistic development, technology driven growth,
development of a world class work force and cost competiveness. Restructuring continued and
overseas expansion remained a priority while constantly looking for targets with rich natural
resources. In 2005, it encountered political barriers when attempting to acquire California base Unocal
with 18.5 billion cash. Politicians were opposed to CNOOC s efforts to win Unocal claiming that the
state owned Oil Company was acting as a proxy for the Chinese government seeking to secure U.S
energy assets. (Bower, Dai, Shih Ta Chen 2012). Fu wanted to shift his focus in their acquisition
strategy by cooperating with others to acquire overseas assets instead of going after the big
companies. He wanted to build and maintain a close business relationship with local partners to create
cooperation and mutual understanding rather than attempting to completely take

Should Committed Environmentalists Choose to Adopt a...
Introduction
The environmental impacts of a diet based in animal products is well documented and is the source of
much debate. According to a controversial United Nations report entitled Livestock s Long Shadow
(2006), The livestock sector emerges as one of the top two or three most significant contributors to the
most serious environmental problems, at every scale from local to global. For those committed to
reducing their environmental impacts, one solution would be to transfer to a vegetarian or even vegan
diet. It is not necessarily ethical to prescribe one way of being for environmentalists all over the world,
especially without thinking about differences in cultures. However, most committed environmentalists
should adopt a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Environmentalists take many different forms and are influenced by different perceptions of nature.
Their definition of the environment may vary from person to person. Some view humans as separate
from nature, while others view humans and nonhuman animals as part of the environment. This most
directly affects how environmentalists and others view animals in our society. Environmentalists who
are informed by various ideologies often lack a strong opinion about the treatment of animals in
relation to diet and the environment. Arne Naess, who is credited with coining the term deep ecology
is vague stating that the killing of animals for human consumption is justified when it is a vital human
need without much further clarification (Waller 1997). This stance has been criticised by Waller (1997,
p. 191) who states, To have no stand on vegetarianism is to have no practical stand on land use,
availability of food, quality of human life, and the ethics of human nonhuman interaction an
interaction which, for all of deep ecology s evasions, occurs always between the particular
constituents of nature.
Forms of Plant based Diets
The spectrum of plant based diets is much broader and complex than simply choosing not to eat meat.
For example, The American Council on Science and Health differentiates vegetarianism into eight
categories based

A Soldier s Life During The Early 1900s
During the early 1900s, soldiers who fought did not have any say in their actions. They were told what
to do, where to go, and who to take up arms against. These actions led to multiple complications and
controversies among different World War 1 historians. Soldiers were taught to comply with all orders
of their commander and disobeying such commands was rewarded by harsh punishments. Over time
however, the soldiers began to see the situation from a different vantage point, As a result, they began
to formulate escape plans, and they began to reject orders more frequently, and began to voice
disapproval. This behavior infuriated their commanders, so as time progressed the soldiers attitudes
changed. To say a soldier s life during World War

Sociology Gender Roles Essay
In this day and age, people are quick to come to a judgment about the way others live without
knowing their reasons why. Gender role refers to values, characteristics, and meanings that people use
to describe different sexes. Sex is a biological concept based on the determination of an individual s
primary sex characteristics. So often people confuse the two and automatically classify people because
of their masculinity, or femininity look. It is time to start realizing there are more to people than just
their outside appearance. Growing up believing we should look, act, dress, and talk a certain way do to
our outside persona is utterly wrong. A 1992 study tested gender stereotypes and labeling within

Reflection Paper On Haiti
My church was planning a mission trip to Haiti in Summer of 2016. As soon as I heard the
announcement I knew I was going. My husband, my then nineteen year old son and myself started our
plans to travel. Passports were bought, fundraisers were planned and me thinking I needed to know
everything there was to know about Haiti started my searches on the internet. I went into this trip
thinking I knew all about the culture, country, the people and what I could do for them. I quickly
found out just how wrong I was.
As soon as our flight started descending over Port Au Prince Haiti every ounce of knowledge I thought
I had vanished. There were fires in the distance and crumbled building as far as I could see. As we
exited the airport and once I caught my breath from how hot it was we had a mob of people all over us
like fleas on a stray dog. They wanted to help us so we will give them money. And once we could get
past that, a smell hit us from every direction. Burning garbage and burning charcoal filled the air. Our
drive was almost four hours to where we were staying and in that four hour trip I saw more naked
people, garbage, crumbling buildings and wild animals then I had ever even known existed. There was
so much new information to take in it was so overwhelming. This was not something I had planned
for.
After a night of rest, it was time to get to it. Here I am, ready to help. We can now fix everyone s
problems! Well, not so much. That thought had to leave my mind. There

The Wish
The short story The Wish by Roald Dahl makes us think about the challenges of growing up and how
we respond to these challenges throughout life. Through the use of imagery and extended metaphor
Dahl uses the character of a curiously imaginative young boy to help us reflect on the delicacy of our
childhood innocence. From the beginning of the story the author uses the image of a scab to
emphasize the boys curiosity: With a fingernail he began to explore cautiously around the edges (p1).
As the scab comes off beautifully, leaving an interesting little circle of of smooth red skin, we realize
the fragility of the boy s childhood and how it too can be torn away very easily. Later, as the story
develops, we learn that the carpet the subject

To what extent can the Tet Offensive of 1968 be described as a key turning point in the Vietnam War

The Tet Offensive could be described as a key turning point because it shook USA s confidence in

A turning point in the Vietnam War was the Battle of Ac Bac 1963. This is where the Vietcong won the
fight between the ARVN despite their superior fire power, and the fact that the Vietcong were
outnumbered four to one. It was a turning point because it suggested the ARVN were weak and easily
defeated, therefore more troops were needed to solve this problem.
Overall there were many other turning points other than the Tet Offensive 1968 in the Vietnam War,
such as the Gulf of Tonkin incident, the attack at Pleiku and the Battle of Ac Bac. However The Tet
Offensive was the key turning point, this is because it shook USA s previous confidence in winning

was technically a win e.g. the Vietcong were nearly wiped out with their loss of 50000 men. It also led

A Comparison Of Japanese Colonialism InThe Man In The High...
The Man in the High Castle presents a colonized and divided the United States that belongs to
Germany, Japan, and a buffer zone. Philip Dick states that the Japanese colonizers have a reflection of
the western ideals and values. The Japanese mimicked the American culture by developing an interest
in talking English and improvement of their social status. Japanese adopted the American culture and
acquired American historical objects while retaining their customs and attitudes. The Japanese
occupying the region transform San Francisco into a third world America. The High Castle owned by
the Japanese colonialists because of romantic notions it developed its own attitudes, history, and
culture. Childan develops American ideals but he ironically condemns the Japanese for not
understanding and appreciating the real meaning of America. The paper argues against Childan
perception on Japanese failing to understand America because of lack of common ground.
Childan understands the American culture and history which he primarily uses his arts and crafts.
Childan makes American antiques and sells them in the High Castle occupied by Japanese
administrators. It is not ironic that the Japanese failed to understand the real America. The Japanese
understood the American customs because they parasitized the American way of life. Childan
prejudiced against America because of his weak sense of history (Dick, 338). Childan personally fails
to understand about his country and the Japanese on the other hand ape the American customs and
history. As stated by Dick, Childan himself doesn t know about America but the Japanese do because
of developing an interest in the country (338). The Japanese understands the version and uniqueness
of America and not as how Childan perceives their understanding.
Childan claims base on the colonization by Japanese who occupy the region and keep the zone
underdeveloped. However, the thinking that Japanese do not understand the real America is bias. The
Japanese use the effort and money to simulate the American culture and historical objects (Dick, 335).
The ability to imitate and simulate the customs, attitude and culture of the Americans indicates that the
Japanese understand the real America.

a technology created to make people s lives better, allowing the public to express themselves, share
their thoughts, and connect with old friends without effort. However society, as with all technology,
has found negative ways to misuse the internet. In Kiki Kannibal: The Girl Who Played With Fire

Replacing or suspending the new innovations that scientists are making or have made in the past is
inconceivable, however, society can create an Online Crime Prevention Organization (OCPO) to
monitor the internet. In Kiki Kannibal, one of her major threats was her cyber bullies; she was
constantly tormented and persecuted by strangers online. Kiki was also unable to defend herself or
validate her offenders; she had no help from law enforcement, adults around her, and there was
nothing or no one she could go to with the abuse which made her bullies invincible while Kiki and her
family were left helpless. Erdely mentions in her essay that Kiki fought back by embracing her
outsider status, chopping her long hair and dyeing it pink. She remade herself into a scene queen,
(Erdely). Singer mentions in his essay that Technological breakthroughs have made it simple to
collect, store, and disseminate data on individuals, corporations, and even the government (Singer

that are also helping criminals now, they are more discreet and have found new ways to practice
criminal activities through the internet. An Online Crime prevention Organization s main goal is to
stop or prevent online crime with any action that must be taken indefinitely; OCPO would be able to

the OCPO, anyone who believes that a person is practicing criminal activities such as cyber bullying,
can anonymously flag a person with proof of the action, sending the information to the OCPO who

Socratic Method Of Socrates
During his lifetime, Socrates diligently sought out others to converse with ultimately forcing them to
confront their own lack of knowledge through employing various methods of teaching. The first
approaches Socrates used when discussing philosophical topics were the Socratic Method, in which he
asked his interlocutor questions in order to determine their knowledge of a topic and not allowing
them to provide examples but rather a clear definition. His method forced them to explore the topics
down to the roots of what they thought they knew until they were forced to admit a lack of knowledge.
Socrates also used a craft analogy which suggested that virtues were like a crafts. While Socrates may
have used this method to his advantage, it is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition to the previously discussed methods, Socrates also used craft analogy in his discussions as
a means of understanding moral principles. When using this method, Socrates compares a craft to
various different moral principles. This helps guide his student to their lack of understanding of the
virtue. In the discussion of piety, in Plato s Euthyphro dialogue, Socrates was able to employ craft
analogy to help Euthyphro realize his lack of understanding of piety. Euthyphro states that piety or
holiness, Socrates, appears to me be the part of justice which attends to the gods.. (12.) Socrates
responds by continuing his use of the Socratic Method, while employing craft analogy. He asks the
meaning of attention and suggests that only a skilled person, in their specific craft, is able to provide
such attention, and this art form is always beneficial to the other party, to which Euthyphro agrees.
Socrates then uses this to ask if he is suggesting that by his piety he is somehow improving or
benefiting the gods as it would be suggested. Euthyphro denies the implication and suggests rather
that the attention he is referring to is the kind which servants provide to their masters. Socrates
continues with craft analogy, suggesting a number of crafts, such as a house builder building a house,
all of which lead to something being accomplished. The

Les Miserables And Les Miserabless Analysis
In Crime and Punishment, Fyodor Dostoyevsky details the fall and redemption of a former student,
Rodion Romanovitch Raskolnikov. Raskolnikov leads a fairly ordinary life, but makes a terrible
choice which will haunt him for the rest of his life. He murders a pawnbroker in her apartment, and his
mental health consequently spirals into a dark and chilling state. Through finding love and religion he
becomes a better man, and decides to turn himself in for his crimes. During his time spent in jail,
Raskolnikov learns to achieve happiness, and strives to have a better life after his release. Likewise, in
Les Miserables, Victor Hugo uses the fictional story of Jean Valjean and his redemption to persuade
those in power to change things for the better, using the four so long as statements, the trials of Valjean
and the people of France, and the solutions that they come upon. Victor Hugo begins Les Miserables
with a series of so long as statements that he uses in order to promote a change in France. The preface
becomes one of the most crucial parts of the book because it exemplifies exactly what Hugo wants his
readers to learn from his writings. Hugo leads his preface with questions concerning the laws and
customs of France. He then goes on to distinguish the issues that commonly haunt families, such as
poverty, starvation, and degradation. Hugo convicts France of seizing basic human rights from Its
people, and deliberately suppressing those who he calls Les Miserables. Hugo

Stereotypes, Prejudice, And Prejudice
In recent discussions of American Born Chinese, a controversial issue has been whether
Yang represents the stereotype successfully on his book or not. On the one hand, some argue that he
go a little off from his main point from his book. From this perspective, many people found the book
that it is not good enough to read. On the other hand, however, others insist that Yang did a great job
on representing stereotypes, which makes his book very powerful and interesting to read. In the words
of one of this view s proponents, I had heard about stereotypes, but never really fully understood
them. This book has taught me to at least get a little grasp on the pain and hurt that stereotypes can
really cause. (Printz p.g 11). According to this view, many people really got the meaning of
stereotypes by reading American Born Chines. In sum, then, the issue is whether Yang represents the
stereotypes well enough in his book or not. My own view is that Yang successfully stated stereotypes
in his book that made it a powerful book. After, all, I have chosen to identify as a college student at
Winona State University. Though I concede that Yang could ended his book differently to make it
more interesting, but I still maintain that he stated the stereotype successfully because he made it clear
enough to the reader to see the stereotypes from the text and images and using three different stories in
the same book. Combining texts and images to clarify stereotypes to the reader was an

Vinyl Deck Research Paper
Considering A New Vinyl Deck? You ll Love The Low Maintenance Required One of the main
benefits of choosing vinyl as the building material for your new deck is that it requires very little

to do to a vinyl deck is keep it clean. Here are a few things you need to know about caring for vinyl
decking. Keep The Deck Dry Rain should drain from your deck so it stays dry most of the time. Mold

If it doesn t accumulate a lot of dirt and debris, you may be able to go several months between
cleanings. Even if your deck doesn t look dirty, you should still wash it down occasionally to keep
organic matter and mold spores from attaching to the surface. If you use a power washer, wash one
board at a time following the length of the board rather than washing across the width. This keeps you
from forcing water between the boards. You can use a soapy solution made from dish soap or just
plain water if your deck isn t too dirty. If you use soap or a deck cleaning solution, wet the boards
first, and use the product early in the morning or late in the evening. If you apply cleansers during the
heat of the day, they may evaporate before they can be rinsed off, and then they ll leave a cloudy
residue behind. Look for stains as you wash, and if you find some, use a cleaner that s made for vinyl
decking to get rid of them. You can buy deck cleaner at a hardware store for this purpose. Plus, it s
always good to have the cleaner on hand so you can quickly clean up spills before they stain. Use a
nonabrasive stiff brush to help break up the stain if necessary. Use plenty of water to thoroughly rinse

Mung Beans
Abstract
The Seeds of Mung bean, wheat, and silver beet were tested in environments of differing salinities to
note down if high salinity environments were worse for the seeds. It was found that generally lower
concentrations were better for germination then higher concentrations. Despite this, the hypothesis
was not completely supported as in wheat and silver beet the second concentration had a higher rate of
germination than the control and in all instances the highest concentration had a higher germination
rate than the second highest concentration.

Because less water is taken up, more water remains, and when the water evaporates from the soil, salt
which has been low below ground for millions of years is brought to the surface, surrounding these
new plants and depriving them of further water (DENR SA, 2010). This process can be made worse
by the irrigation of crops, which result in more water soaking into the soil and thus more water to
evaporate and carry salt to the soil s surface (DENR SA, 2010).
An example of a plant adapted to high salinity environments is the mangrove. The mangrove is a
halophilous plant, meaning that it is a plant that grows in saline soils and waters (Conservancy
Association, 2010). This gives it an advantage as not many plants can live in these conditions. The
mangrove handles these high salinity conditions in a number of methods. The first method is through
salt exclusion, which is the process the mangrove uses to prevent salt from entering its roots and
therefore stopping it being transported to the plant cells (Conservancy Association, 2010). Despite
this, some salt still gets through to the cells, and there are more methods to deal with it. With
mangroves such as the Black Mangrove, salt can be excreted through its tissues, through specific salt
glands (Conservancy Association, 2010). Another method is the storage of this salt on the leaves of the
plant, in the form of crystals. These leaves then drop to the ground, taking this salt with them

Example Of P2p Energy System
2 Applications for this research in Industry
A peer to peer electricity system would optimise the last mile of the distribution grid. In fact, the most
direct benefit sits below the level 1 transformer. If the local community can move electricity and
balance the grid on a local level, below the level 1 transformer, there is a reduction in the remaining
grid infrastructure. I will illustrate this reduction using a simple example, that of a new house with
3kw of general load and 16 kW of air conditioning that replaces an old house with 3 kW peak load
(kettle, stove, and fridge). The new house turns on the 16kw air conditioned only at times when the
grid is at its peak (during hot weather.) The grid infrastructure in a business as usual ... Show more

This is seen in the report Emerging Technologies Information Paper (AEMO, 2015) and the domestic
customer has now emerged with a clear voice in Australian energy planning.
The neighbourhood effects of PV adoption researched by Graziano et al. (2014) means that this
research could be used in government policy to develop communities that would share energy
resources and reduce the peak load on the electricity network (hence reducing infrastructure costs.)
Newman in a 2010 CSIRO publication covered the relevant policy and social dynamics in Australia
((Newman et al., 2010). Their focus in this paper was on the role of renewable energy in building
resilience into Australian cities. Peter Newman is a specialist in socio ecology systems but in my view
missed the need for the consumer to engage in trading and sharing of energy resources before the
economics of renewable energy can be acceptable to the broader society. His view is that integration
of more renewables is possible ipso facto. I argue that to do this, policy development must allow
sharing and trading of electricity.

sector. The Google Sunroof project is an example. There are two new P2P companies operating in

Analysis Of The Vendetta By Guy De Maupassure
Whether to take revenge on someone is a choice many people will have to make at some point in life.
Some would say that while it might feel good to get back at a person who has wronged us, it is not
usually the right choice for an individual to make. Other people disagree and feel that getting justice
by any means is more important. Guy de Maupassant deals with this issue in his short story The
Vendetta, and the tone he develops throughout the text helps readers to see this central idea. The story
reveals that revenge requires time, effort and determination.

Examples Of Normative Conformity
Normative conformity is conformity that occurs because of the desire to be liked and accepted. Most
people probably think of peer pressure amongst teens when they think of normative conformity, and
for good reason. Most teens and pre teens are particularly vulnerable to influence because they long to
be accepted by their peers. I m sure when you were a teenager you heard the phrase, If all of your
friends jumped off a bridge, would you do it, too? Peer pressure is certainly a good example of
normative conformity, but it happens to adults, too.
For example, have you ever attended a performance that was, at best, mediocre? Maybe it was a play
you saw, and you thought it was just okay. However, at the end of the play, several people around you
may have stood while clapping. It wouldn t take very long for every person in the auditorium,
including you, to participate in the standing ovation. Even though you didn t think the performance
was necessarily deserving of the praise, you joined in rather than remaining seated, so you wouldn t
stand out like a sore thumb. Standing ovations, peer pressure, fashion trends, body image, and
following traditions are just a few examples of normative conformity.

Analysis Of The Poem Snake By D. H. Lawrence
The Psychology of the Serpent in D.H. Lawrence s Snake
Less than 17% of the world s snakes are poisonous and less than half of these are dangerous to man.
The risk of death as a result of snakebite is, in fact, lower than the risk of being struck by lightning
(Pinney 138). Nonetheless, cross culturally and throughout the world, the snake is an object of
fascination, fear, and respect for humankind. The serpent is a source of symbolic speculation, as it
appears in myth, dream, literature, and religion. In nature or otherwise, it is impossible to approach the
creature innocently (Morgenson 3). As D.H. Lawrence s poem, Snake , suggests, the snake s invoked

Intimidation is immediately established from the dawn of the poem, where Lawrence s narrator is in
pajamas for the heat , in the company of a visiting serpent (2). In such casual attire as pajamas, one is
left feeling vulnerable and exposed, susceptible to social attack. Lawrence s character is, of course,
vulnerable to the snake s venomous predation, but he is also susceptible to society s and human nature
s convictions of the slithering snake, which effectively influences the narrator s judgement. Naturally,
this intimidation is absurd. It continues throughout the poem while the narrator like a second comer
waits, but the snake, throughout the incident, proves to be harmless (15). The true daunting forces of
the narrator s sentiments are the voices of [his] education (22). While the said voices remain
mysterious, foreboding, and unnatural in Lawrence s realm of natural thought and environment, the
snake is familiar, and is accredited with figurative familiarity:
He lifted his head from drinking, as cattle do,
He looked at me vaguely as drinking cattle do (16 17).
Comparing the snake s actions to the docile, accustomed behaviour of a primarily agricultural species
lessens the threat that the snake projects, yet the poem s tension is not respectively decreased.
Ironically, the stereotypically conniving, quick witted serpent image in not reflected in this simile.

He chose to set a feel for his scenes unknown , then have the actors improvise what was going to

do in different situations (Behr). This caused an effect of the script writing itself, as well as creating a
deeper rift between it and the source material. Marlon Brando, who portrayed Kurtz, fed the fire of
deep confusion where the script was concerned. Both Heart of Darkness, and Milius original script, as
well as Coppola s later interpretation of these, called for the character of Kurtz to be a frail, sickly, and
dying man. Brando, however, refused to get into shape as Coppola had requested. Brando was in fact
so fat during filming that he was shy about it (Behr). Coppola first suggested that he rewrite the script
to accommodate the character to Brando by setting him up as a gluttonous, man consumed by his own
evil excesses (Behr). Brando refused to be undignified in his portrayal, so the filming, as well as the
writing remained stagnant for days on end. In the end Coppola merely set Brando and Sheen free to
improvise for three weeks, leaving him with an incoherent batch of footage that, with the exception of
the death lines of The Horror! The Horror! (Conrad) had little to do with the script, or the novel. Time

into a vital part of the state. Before the mid eighteenth century, public health was an issue that was
largely overlooked, but new investigations regarding fever among the lower class made way for new
research regarding public health. One of the biggest issues in the cities were the abundance of animals,
ranging from horses, to cattle, to pigs. However, what the cities did not realize was the harmful effects
that these animals had on the environment. When animals would die, their carcasses would generate
vapors that led to diseases and illness. Although there was a catastrophic cattle plague in 1865 1866,
the Victorian government did not look at animals in the city a significant issue until the end of the
century. 1876 was a pivotal year in regards to animals and their effects on society. In 1876 studies
showed the specific agents of disease that were linked between animals and humans. These

Double Preparation Lab Report
Lauren Small
Mrs. Gordon
Chemistry Honors, Period 6
23 November 2015 Double Replacements and Precipitations, Combining and Reacting
Background Information: According to Steven S. Zumdahl and Donald J. DeCoste (Introductory
Chemistry: A Foundation), a double replacement reaction occurs when two cations and two anions are
transferred. A precipitation reaction takes place when two aqueous solutions dissolve in water, and a
solid forms between one of the cations and one of the anions (Zumdahl/Donald 187). Zumdahl and
Donald also say that evidence of a precipitate includes a color change, gas production, transfer of
electrons, or the formation of water. All of these types of evidence occurred in this lab. Signs that a
reaction has taken place ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Zumdahl and Donald J. DeCoste (Introductory Chemistry: A Foundation), two ionic compounds are
placed in water and react and form two new compounds. There is evidence of a double replacement
reaction when a precipitate will form when a reaction occurs. There could also be a change in color,
temperature, and possibly gaseous productions. Most commonly, there will be a color change and
formation of a precipitate. During this lab, many chemicals will be involved that are not meant to
contact skin or eyes. They can burn, sting, or irritate the skin. In order to prevent this, we must wear
safety goggles throughout the entire procedure and be careful while dealing with the chemicals. We
also need to be responsible and not touch, smell, or taste the chemicals at any point within this lab.
The chemical formulas of the aqueous solutions of ionic compounds in this lab that are used are
KNO3 (Potassium Nitrate), Mg(NO3)2 (Magnesium Nitrate), Fe(NO3)3 (Iron (III) Nitrate),
Zn(NO3)3 (Zinc Nitrate), 3Cu(NO3)3 (Copper Nitrate), Ca(NO3)2 (Calcium Nitrate), K3Fe(CN)6
(Potassium Ferricyanide), Na3PO4 (Sodium Phosphate), Na2SO4 (Sodium Sulfate), NaOH (Sodium
Hydroxide), NaCl (Sodium Chloride), and Na2CO3 (Sodium Carbonate). These are all categorized as
aqueous based on the general solubility

Jerry Koeehler Biography
Jerry Koehler: From St. Louis U. to Cathedral High (1963)
In 1963, Jerry Koehler graduates from St. Louis University with a BS degree. With a major in history
and a minor in education, he has already been hired to teach history at Cathedral High School in
Belleville.
Although he receives scholarship help, first for basketball and later for baseball, the remaining part of
his $800 tuition per semester is paid for by his parents.
Throughout his four years at the university, he lives at home and commutes in a car pool with other
students from Belleville. Although this limits his social life on the campus, the education he receives
is outstanding. In addition to being prepared to teach his subject matter, he receives inspiration from
several of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Every history major has to pass an extensive written exam dealing with the history of the world. In
addition to this, Jerry is required to go into a room with three history professors who, for one half
hour, ask questions on any topics in history. Much of Jerry s apprehension is the circulation of horror
stories about students who were not allowed to graduate because they did not pass these
comprehensive exams. However, Jerry is ecstatic when he comes out after finishing his oral exams.
He has missed only one question over the 30 minute period. Although he cannot remember a single
question that he answers correctly, for the remainder of his life he will always remember the one that
he missed knowing that it was in his mind a trick question. He is asked, Who had the greatest
influence on thought during the Middle Ages, Saint Augustine or Saint Thomas Aquinas? These are
arguably the two most important theologians in all of Christian history and Jerry chooses the wrong
one, that is, Aquinas. And why did Augustine have the greater influence? Because he came at the
beginning of medieval history while Aquinas came toward the end of the

My Papa s Waltz Mood
My Papa s Waltz ,a poem written by Theodore Roethke, is about a father whose despairing dance
moves terrify the son. Roethke uses the connotation of words to create an unruly mood. A
demonstration of Roethke s use word connotation to convey a mood is present on the following lines.
We romped until the pans / Slid from the kitchen shelf; (5 6). These lines create an unruly mood
because they consist of words that have strong negative connotation. One of these words is romped.
Romped has a negative connotation that means to basically move around in a chaotic manner. This
gave of a disorderly mood because the context makes it sound like they danced chaotically and
violently. Also the fact that their dancing made the pans slide kitchen shelf

Servicemen And Women Keep Dogs Essay
I believe that all servicemen and woman should be able to keep the dogs they have trained. Even if the
serviceman or woman is hurt, disabled, or mentally ill. I think it is important that all servicemen and
women get their dog back.
The first reason why I think all servicemen and women should keep the dog because the trainer and
the dog formed a special bond with each other. In the article Call of Duty it says Man and dog bonded
right away, it also said He is like my silent partner says Jose He bridges three worlds:the one I was
before Afghanistan, the one I was there, and the one I became after. This last detail shows how
important the dogs are to the trainer s life after the war.
The second reason that after the war the wounded ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the dog s trainer leave to go home, the dogs can get confused and not work their best, which
could lead to serious injuries or even death. But if they get new dogs whenever the old dogs leave with
their trainer they could get better results. And perhaps no deaths or no serious injuries.
Other people who are against that all servicemen and women should keep the dog they that the trained
might say that the dogs are still needed in the military. I can see where they got that but the military
get new dogs all the time.
Another thing they might say is that the soldiers are too hurt or injured to have and take care of the
dogs. Most of the time disabled veterans have assistance like a family member of a close friend, so
where they could take care of the dog. The veterans need these dogs. The dogs can motivate them,
they can help them do everyday things, and they can help improve the soldier s health physically and
mentally.
All servicemen and women should be able to keep or adopt the dogs they have trained. So they can
keep the powerful bond they have, and help the soldiers get better. The military can get new dogs but
you can t get a more powerful bond than what a soldier and his dog

Texas Constitution Vs. U.s. Constitution
Texas is considered a very diverse and unique state in many different aspects. It is the second largest
state with more than twenty six million people residing. People all over the state live in a variety of
environments, cities, suburbs, rural areas, you name it. Of course though, like in everything else, there
are always both positive and negative things. However, despite the fact that Texas have very high
poverty rates and it has the second highest income inequality, Texas is a very interesting state and it
has a lot of things that are worth learning about. I learned some things about Texas politics that I
thought were very interesting. These topics include the State Constitution and the legislature. The
Texas Constitution and the U.S. Constitution is very similar to each other in terms of structure. Both
documents provide framework, and the amendments come from the will of the people. The Texas
Constitution was written to govern the the individual state alone so it should be more specific and less
flexible to change. On the other hand, the U.S Constitution is more flexible than the Texas
Constitution because of the fact that it was designed to be governing a total of fifty states with each
individual states differing from others in values, beliefs, attitudes, behaviors, and the states consist of
individuals who have similar values. Today, we are still operating under the 1876 Constitution with
four hundred ninety one amendments, which includes a preamble and seventeen

Moral Of Antigone
The play begins as Antigone and her sister Ismene speak of the death of their brothers Polyneices and
Eteocles. However, it is important to note that what events precluded this scene, which was sparked by
Eteocles s taking reign of the Thebes after Oedipus had died. It ultimately caused Polyneices to wage a
battle against his former city and drove the two brothers to kill one another (Sophocles 8). Thus,
leaving Creon who was both of brother s uncle in control of the city of Thebes. Antigone and Ismene
discuss the proclamation newly put forth by Creon which was due to the fact that Polyneices
committed treason against Thebes he would not be granted a burial, thus foregoing the Unwritten Law
protecting the rights of the dead (Sophocles 9). It was this decree that provoked Antigone to opposed
Creon as she decides to bury Polyneices herself and she attempts to recruit Ismene to help her with
this action, however, Ismene tried to persuade Antigone not to go through with the burial.
As the play progresses it comes to Creon s attention by one of the guards that Polynieces body has
been buried and eventually the guard determined it was Antigone and brings her in front of Creon.
Antigone admitted to the burial and Creon ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, it is important to analyze the main characters from the story and determine, specifically,
what characteristics came to comprise each of them. To begin we shall consider the role of Ismene
who was more concerned with respecting the law and doing what she was told by the authority in
power. For she was fearful of the repercussions the that would be inflicted upon her if she disobeyed
the law rejecting Polyneices burial. She let fear take control and ultimately affect the relationship she
held with

  • 2. Cyber Attack Assignment Early in this year, a cyber attack impacted some countries, including the UK. This attack caused breaches in about 36 per cent of NHS organisations, which interrupted delivery of care by blocking some technological devices (Morse, 2017). According to the National Audit Office (NAO), due to this attack, more than 16,000 appointments were cancelled, which increased the cost to arrange these appointments and seek support to restore data impacted in NHS devices (Morse, 2017). Facing this kind of technological problem might seriously threaten data security and quality unless healthcare organisations implement more monitoring and intensified support. To improve ICD 9 CM codes, Glance et al. recommend that other states in the US should follow the successful experience of California and New York. These states coded the condition present at admission (CPAA) to modify disease diagnosis once the patient was admitted to hospital, with the date stamped (2006). A study Sundararajan et al. aimed to evaluate diagnosis timing indicators in the International Classification of Diseases (ICD), developed by the World Health Organization and used in Canada, the US and Australia (2015). This study indicated an improvement in diagnosis due to use of coding, which promoted data accuracy and quality. Based on these successful experiences, the WHO has encouraged these countries to develop standard coding guideline to help use these codes effectively (Sundararajan et al., 2015). In addition, in the UK, the NHS has had success using OPCS 4 and ICD 10 standards across UK hospitals to evaluate the care provided based on epidemiological analysis data by coding them (NHS Digital, 2017). ICD 10 is used to categorize diseases, while OPCS 4 is used during surgical procedures (NHS Digital, 2017). These standards collect data from medical records, code the data and group them into lists to get rid of duplicates so the data will be functional to use them in the future. According to NHS Digital, these standards help hospitals use statistical epidemiological analysis to set their plans and budgets, which might ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Psychoanalytic Theory Of Erik Erikson Christina Gogh EECE 310 W Professor Rhodd 11/10/17 Erick Erickson Erik Erikson is known for his psychoanalytic theory of psychosocial development comprising eight stages from infancy to adulthood. Psychologist Erik Erikson, is a major contributor to developmental psychology, who proposed a comprehensive theory of the ways that individuals develop their identity, a sense of who they are, and society s influence on that development. Erikson stated that people go through crisis at each stage of their lives. The stages each had a developmental task to be mastered. As an individual resolved these various crises an individual would have a better harmony with their social environment that they live in. If an individual could not successfully resolve a crisis, they would be out of step , and the individual would have a greater difficulty in their dealing with a crisis in the future. Erikson did however recognize that an individual can develop through a stage negatively and still go on with their life. Erikson stated that each of the psychological stages have a basic conflict and important event leading to growth. The theory was developed from his hundreds of clinical observations in children. Identity is central to Erikson s thinking. Erikson coined the term identity crisis . Erikson lived such a crisis in his own life. At a young age Erikson found out his father was really his stepfather. Erik Homberger Erikson was born on June 15, 1902 in Frankfurt, Germany to his mother ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Her success opened the floodgates for a generation of modern black actors and writers who were influenced and encouraged by her writing. Hansberry was born in 1930, the youngest of four children of Carl and Nannie Hansberry, a respected and successful black family in Chicago, Illinois. Cover of A Raisin in the Sun Hansberry used the success of A Raisin In the Sun as a platform to speak out for the American Civil Rights Movement and for the African struggle to free itself from white rule. She helped raise money, gave impassioned speeches and took part in panels and interviews to further these causes. After her initial success she lived only six years and was able to complete only one more play, a movie and a television script which was too racially controversial to be aired. Her second play, The Sign in Sidney Brustein s Window, was received with mixed reviews and kept open for 101 performances only by the contributions and support of the theatre community. It closed the night she died at 34 from cancer. After her death Nemiroff finished and produced her final work, Les Blancs, a play about African liberation. Hansberry had begun to claim her identity as a lesbian in a 1957 letter to a lesbian periodical, The Ladder. This information and her 1964 divorce from Nemiroff was not widely known at the time of her death. The United States of America is facing problems a lot of people are either unaware of or just dont think its a big deal. Most of america think that our economy and government is in alright financial shape, That may not be the case though. America is in bad shape and it seems to be going down hill. America is declining in world power as well and this is just another factor leading to a crash in the future. Other nations are growing a lot more powerful than they have been in the past causing very big problems as a nation. There are a lot of people that think they have very solid arguments that america is in fine shape and no one has any reason to worry. They think the problems people talk about are no big deal amd that the nation can deal with them no problem. These reasons have some truth but for the most part they have a lot of things that other nations are in control of. The United States debt is over 19 trillion dollars, that is an insane amount of money and it is going up rapidly. People think this is ok because the US prints its own money so it is in control of its currency and debt. This is not a very good thing to think because if the United States tried to get out of debt by printing trillions more dollars than usual there would be a massive increase in inflation. Another argument is that Obama added to the debt to get the United States out of a recession. He did do this but it also caused us to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Physical Activity And Mortality By Professor Ulf Ekelund Physical Activity and Mortality In the article, Physical Activity and Mortality, Professor Ulf Ekelund, a sports medicine professor who works in the Medical Research Council (MRC) Epidemiology unit at the university of Cambridge in the UK, and his colleagues report their findings about the impact lack of exercise has on health. Professor Ekelund organizes his article in a manner in which may make it difficult to read, but he certainly conveys his argument very well, through the use of ethos, pathos, and logos. In the article he explains about the cohort study he has conducted on whether obesity, or inactivity is more likely to lead death faster. After the study Ekelund concludes that even the slightest increase in activity has been proven to be beneficial to health and increases life expectancy. He starts his article off with background information on his study, and proceeds to add various topics and subtopics, as well as eye grabbing tables and charts. Professor Ekelund starts the article by giving an abstract containing an in depth view into the background of his study, which states, The higher risk of death resulting from excess adiposity may be attenuated by physical activity (PA). (Ekelund, 1). With this statement the reader gains a greater understanding of what the article is going to be about: The correlations between obesity and death, and exercise and death. In the abstract Ekelund also gives some insight into what the study will include, the ages of the people, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In 2005, it encountered political barriers when attempting to acquire California base Unocal with 18.5 billion cash. According to a controversial United Nations report entitled Livestock s Long Shadow (2006), The livestock sector emerges as one of the top two or three most significant contributors to the most serious environmental problems, at every scale from local to global. For those committed to reducing their environmental impacts, one solution would be to transfer to a vegetarian or even vegan diet. Environmentalists take many different forms and are influenced by different perceptions of nature. Their definition of the environment may vary from person to person. Some view humans as separate from nature, while others view humans and nonhuman animals as part of the environment. This most directly affects how environmentalists and others view animals in our society. Environmentalists who are informed by various ideologies often lack a strong opinion about the treatment of animals in relation to diet and the environment. Arne Naess, who is credited with coining the term deep ecology is vague stating that the killing of animals for human consumption is justified when it is a vital human need without much further clarification (Waller 1997). This stance has been criticised by Waller (1997, p. 191) who states, To have no stand on vegetarianism is to have no practical stand on land use, availability of food, quality of human life, and the ethics of human nonhuman interaction an interaction which, for all of deep ecology s evasions, occurs always between the particular constituents of nature. • 13. Reflection Paper On Haiti My church was planning a mission trip to Haiti in Summer of 2016. As soon as I heard the announcement I knew I was going. My husband, my then nineteen year old son and myself started our plans to travel. Passports were bought, fundraisers were planned and me thinking I needed to know everything there was to know about Haiti started my searches on the internet. I went into this trip thinking I knew all about the culture, country, the people and what I could do for them. I quickly found out just how wrong I was. As soon as our flight started descending over Port Au Prince Haiti every ounce of knowledge I thought I had vanished. There were fires in the distance and crumbled building as far as I could see. And once we could get past that, a smell hit us from every direction. Burning garbage and burning charcoal filled the air. Our drive was almost four hours to where we were staying and in that four hour trip I saw more naked people, garbage, crumbling buildings and wild animals then I had ever even known existed. There was so much new information to take in it was so overwhelming. This was not something I had planned for. After a night of rest, it was time to get to it. Here I am, ready to help. From the beginning of the story the author uses the image of a scab to emphasize the boys curiosity: With a fingernail he began to explore cautiously around the edges (p1). This is where the Vietcong won the fight between the ARVN despite their superior fire power, and the fact that the Vietcong were outnumbered four to one. • 16. A Comparison Of Japanese Colonialism InThe Man In The High... The Man in the High Castle presents a colonized and divided the United States that belongs to Germany, Japan, and a buffer zone. Philip Dick states that the Japanese colonizers have a reflection of the western ideals and values. The Japanese mimicked the American culture by developing an interest in talking English and improvement of their social status. Japanese adopted the American culture and acquired American historical objects while retaining their customs and attitudes. The Japanese occupying the region transform San Francisco into a third world America. The High Castle owned by the Japanese colonialists because of romantic notions it developed its own attitudes, history, and culture. Childan develops American ideals but he ironically condemns the Japanese for not understanding and appreciating the real meaning of America. The paper argues against Childan perception on Japanese failing to understand America because of lack of common ground. Childan understands the American culture and history which he primarily uses his arts and crafts. Childan makes American antiques and sells them in the High Castle occupied by Japanese administrators. It is not ironic that the Japanese failed to understand the real America. The Japanese understood the American customs because they parasitized the American way of life. Childan prejudiced against America because of his weak sense of history (Dick, 338). Childan personally fails to understand about his country and the Japanese on the other hand ape the American customs and history. As stated by Dick, Childan himself doesn t know about America but the Japanese do because of developing an interest in the country (338). The Japanese understands the version and uniqueness of America and not as how Childan perceives their understanding. Childan claims base on the colonization by Japanese who occupy the region and keep the zone underdeveloped. However, the thinking that Japanese do not understand the real America is bias. The Japanese use the effort and money to simulate the American culture and historical objects (Dick, 335). The ability to imitate and simulate the customs, attitude and culture of the Americans indicates that the Japanese understand the real America. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Are the measures in place to launch such initiative? 3. Are the health organisations aware of mobile health launched in other countries and ready to adopt them? (Shankar, 2010) (Dixit, 2013) 2.1. Kiki was also unable to defend herself or validate her offenders; she had no help from law enforcement, adults around her, and there was nothing or no one she could go to with the abuse which made her bullies invincible while Kiki and her family were left helpless. Socratic Method Of Socrates During his lifetime, Socrates diligently sought out others to converse with ultimately forcing them to confront their own lack of knowledge through employing various methods of teaching. The first approaches Socrates used when discussing philosophical topics were the Socratic Method, in which he asked his interlocutor questions in order to determine their knowledge of a topic and not allowing them to provide examples but rather a clear definition. His method forced them to explore the topics down to the roots of what they thought they knew until they were forced to admit a lack of knowledge. In addition to the previously discussed methods, Socrates also used craft analogy in his discussions as a means of understanding moral principles. When using this method, Socrates compares a craft to various different moral principles. This helps guide his student to their lack of understanding of the virtue. In the discussion of piety, in Plato s Euthyphro dialogue, Socrates was able to employ craft analogy to help Euthyphro realize his lack of understanding of piety. Euthyphro states that piety or holiness, Socrates, appears to me be the part of justice which attends to the gods.. (12.) Socrates responds by continuing his use of the Socratic Method, while employing craft analogy. He asks the meaning of attention and suggests that only a skilled person, in their specific craft, is able to provide such attention, and this art form is always beneficial to the other party, to which Euthyphro agrees. Socrates then uses this to ask if he is suggesting that by his piety he is somehow improving or benefiting the gods as it would be suggested. Euthyphro denies the implication and suggests rather that the attention he is referring to is the kind which servants provide to their masters. Socrates continues with craft analogy, suggesting a number of crafts, such as a house builder building a house, all of which lead to something being accomplished. The ... • 22. Les Miserables And Les Miserabless Analysis In Crime and Punishment, Fyodor Dostoyevsky details the fall and redemption of a former student, Rodion Romanovitch Raskolnikov. Raskolnikov leads a fairly ordinary life, but makes a terrible choice which will haunt him for the rest of his life. He murders a pawnbroker in her apartment, and his mental health consequently spirals into a dark and chilling state. Through finding love and religion he becomes a better man, and decides to turn himself in for his crimes. During his time spent in jail, Raskolnikov learns to achieve happiness, and strives to have a better life after his release. Likewise, in Les Miserables, Victor Hugo uses the fictional story of Jean Valjean and his redemption to persuade those in power to change things for the better, using the four so long as statements, the trials of Valjean and the people of France, and the solutions that they come upon. Victor Hugo begins Les Miserables with a series of so long as statements that he uses in order to promote a change in France. The preface becomes one of the most crucial parts of the book because it exemplifies exactly what Hugo wants his readers to learn from his writings. Hugo leads his preface with questions concerning the laws and customs of France. He then goes on to distinguish the issues that commonly haunt families, such as poverty, starvation, and degradation. Hugo convicts France of seizing basic human rights from Its people, and deliberately suppressing those who he calls Les Miserables. Hugo ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

On the other hand, however, others insist that Yang did a great job on representing stereotypes, which makes his book very powerful and interesting to read. It was found that generally lower concentrations were better for germination then higher concentrations. Despite this, the hypothesis was not completely supported as in wheat and silver beet the second concentration had a higher rate of germination than the control and in all instances the highest concentration had a higher germination rate than the second highest concentration. Introduction Salinity refers to salt dissolved in a substance such as water or soil. Different plants have differing levels of salt tolerance, due to certain adoptions to specific ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because less water is taken up, more water remains, and when the water evaporates from the soil, salt which has been low below ground for millions of years is brought to the surface, surrounding these new plants and depriving them of further water (DENR SA, 2010). This process can be made worse by the irrigation of crops, which result in more water soaking into the soil and thus more water to evaporate and carry salt to the soil s surface (DENR SA, 2010). An example of a plant adapted to high salinity environments is the mangrove. The mangrove is a halophilous plant, meaning that it is a plant that grows in saline soils and waters (Conservancy Association, 2010). This gives it an advantage as not many plants can live in these conditions. The mangrove handles these high salinity conditions in a number of methods. The first method is through salt exclusion, which is the process the mangrove uses to prevent salt from entering its roots and therefore stopping it being transported to the plant cells (Conservancy Association, 2010). Despite this, some salt still gets through to the cells, and there are more methods to deal with it. With mangroves such as the Black Mangrove, salt can be excreted through its tissues, through specific salt glands (Conservancy Association, 2010). Another method is the storage of this salt on the leaves of the plant, in the form of crystals. These leaves then drop to the ground, taking this salt with them (Conservancy ... In fact, the most direct benefit sits below the level 1 transformer. If the local community can move electricity and balance the grid on a local level, below the level 1 transformer, there is a reduction in the remaining grid infrastructure. I will illustrate this reduction using a simple example, that of a new house with 3kw of general load and 16 kW of air conditioning that replaces an old house with 3 kW peak load (kettle, stove, and fridge). Intimidation is immediately established from the dawn of the poem, where Lawrence s narrator is in pajamas for the heat , in the company of a visiting serpent (2). In such casual attire as pajamas, one is left feeling vulnerable and exposed, susceptible to social attack. Lawrence s character is, of course, vulnerable to the snake s venomous predation, but he is also susceptible to society s and human nature s convictions of the slithering snake, which effectively influences the narrator s judgement. Naturally, this intimidation is absurd. It continues throughout the poem while the narrator like a second comer waits, but the snake, throughout the incident, proves to be harmless (15). The true daunting forces of the narrator s sentiments are the voices of [his] education (22). While the said voices remain mysterious, foreboding, and unnatural in Lawrence s realm of natural thought and environment, the snake is familiar, and is accredited with figurative familiarity: He lifted his head from drinking, as cattle do, He looked at me vaguely as drinking cattle do (16 17). Comparing the snake s actions to the docile, accustomed behaviour of a primarily agricultural species lessens the threat that the snake projects, yet the poem s tension is not respectively decreased. Ironically, the stereotypically conniving, quick witted serpent image in not reflected in this simile. Cattle are slow, tribal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Apocalypse Now, Apocalypse Forever Apocalypse Now, Apocalypse Forever Francis Ford Coppola s magnum opus Apocalypse Now was ladened with problems and difficulties before and after filming. These problems ranged from those having to do with the cast and crew, to those having to do with the circumstances surrounding the filming, to those having to do with the script, to those dealing in direct regard to the very sanity of all of those involved with Apocalypse Now. Despite the myriad of problems that contributed to this acclaimed film s failure, Apocalypse Now still became a success in its own right, and a true classic by any director s standards. He chose to set a feel for his scenes unknown , then have the actors improvise what was going to happen (Behr). Coppola also had these actors make lists of what they felt that their characters should do in different situations (Behr). This caused an effect of the script writing itself, as well as creating a deeper rift between it and the source material. Marlon Brando, who portrayed Kurtz, fed the fire of deep confusion where the script was concerned. Both Heart of Darkness, and Milius original script, as well as Coppola s later interpretation of these, called for the character of Kurtz to be a frail, sickly, and dying man. Brando, however, refused to get into shape as Coppola had requested. Brando was in fact so fat during filming that he was shy about it (Behr). Coppola first suggested that he rewrite the script to accommodate the character to Brando by setting him up as a gluttonous, man consumed by his own evil excesses (Behr). Brando refused to be undignified in his portrayal, so the filming, as well as the writing remained stagnant for days on end. In the end Coppola merely set Brando and Sheen free to improvise for three weeks, leaving him with an incoherent batch of footage that, with the exception of the death lines of The Horror! The Horror! (Conrad) had little to do with the script, or the novel. Time and money ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Anne Hardy s Article, Eugenics, Public Health, And The... In the eighteenth century, relations amongst food and the state grew stronger, ranging from farmer wages to the amount of food that is produced. However, Anne Hardy s article, Pioneers in the Victorian provinces: veterinarians, public health, and the urban animal economy speaks about the increased attention to public health in the United Kingdom bolstered the relationship between food and the state. The emergence of the veterinarians, several acts being passed regarding public health, and studies that showed correlations between human diseases with animal diseases, all turned food into a vital part of the state. Before the mid eighteenth century, public health was an issue that was largely overlooked, but new investigations regarding fever among the lower class made way for new research regarding public health. One of the biggest issues in the cities were the abundance of animals, ranging from horses, to cattle, to pigs. However, what the cities did not realize was the harmful effects that these animals had on the environment. When animals would die, their carcasses would generate vapors that led to diseases and illness. Although there was a catastrophic cattle plague in 1865 1866, the Victorian government did not look at animals in the city a significant issue until the end of the century. 1876 was a pivotal year in regards to animals and their effects on society. In 1876 studies showed the specific agents of disease that were linked between animals and humans. These ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Double Preparation Lab Report Lauren Small Mrs. Gordon Chemistry Honors, Period 6 23 November 2015 Double Replacements and Precipitations, Combining and Reacting Background Information: According to Steven S. Zumdahl and Donald J. DeCoste (Introductory Chemistry: A Foundation), a double replacement reaction occurs when two cations and two anions are transferred. A precipitation reaction takes place when two aqueous solutions dissolve in water, and a solid forms between one of the cations and one of the anions (Zumdahl/Donald 187). Zumdahl and Donald also say that evidence of a precipitate includes a color change, gas production, transfer of electrons, or the formation of water. All of these types of evidence occurred in this lab. Signs that a reaction has taken place ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Zumdahl and Donald J. DeCoste (Introductory Chemistry: A Foundation), two ionic compounds are placed in water and react and form two new compounds. There is evidence of a double replacement reaction when a precipitate will form when a reaction occurs. There could also be a change in color, temperature, and possibly gaseous productions. Most commonly, there will be a color change and formation of a precipitate. During this lab, many chemicals will be involved that are not meant to contact skin or eyes. They can burn, sting, or irritate the skin. In order to prevent this, we must wear safety goggles throughout the entire procedure and be careful while dealing with the chemicals. We also need to be responsible and not touch, smell, or taste the chemicals at any point within this lab. The chemical formulas of the aqueous solutions of ionic compounds in this lab that are used are KNO3 (Potassium Nitrate), Mg(NO3)2 (Magnesium Nitrate), Fe(NO3)3 (Iron (III) Nitrate), Zn(NO3)3 (Zinc Nitrate), 3Cu(NO3)3 (Copper Nitrate), Ca(NO3)2 (Calcium Nitrate), K3Fe(CN)6 (Potassium Ferricyanide), Na3PO4 (Sodium Phosphate), Na2SO4 (Sodium Sulfate), NaOH (Sodium Hydroxide), NaCl (Sodium Chloride), and Na2CO3 (Sodium Carbonate). It is the second largest state with more than twenty six million people residing. People all over the state live in a variety of environments, cities, suburbs, rural areas, you name it. Of course though, like in everything else, there are always both positive and negative things. However, despite the fact that Texas have very high poverty rates and it has the second highest income inequality, Texas is a very interesting state and it has a lot of things that are worth learning about. I learned some things about Texas politics that I thought were very interesting. These topics include the State Constitution and the legislature. The Texas Constitution and the U.S. Constitution is very similar to each other in terms of structure. Both documents provide framework, and the amendments come from the will of the people. The Texas Constitution was written to govern the the individual state alone so it should be more specific and less flexible to change. On the other hand, the U.S Constitution is more flexible than the Texas Constitution because of the fact that it was designed to be governing a total of fifty states with each individual states differing from others in values, beliefs, attitudes, behaviors, and the states consist of individuals who have similar values. Today, we are still operating under the 1876 Constitution with four hundred ninety one amendments, which includes a preamble and seventeen ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, it is important to note that what events precluded this scene, which was sparked by Eteocles s taking reign of the Thebes after Oedipus had died. It ultimately caused Polyneices to wage a battle against his former city and drove the two brothers to kill one another (Sophocles 8). Thus, leaving Creon who was both of brother s uncle in control of the city of Thebes. Antigone and Ismene discuss the proclamation newly put forth by Creon which was due to the fact that Polyneices committed treason against Thebes he would not be granted a burial, thus foregoing the Unwritten Law protecting the rights of the dead (Sophocles 9). It was this decree that provoked Antigone to opposed Creon as she decides to bury Polyneices herself and she attempts to recruit Ismene to help her with this action, however, Ismene tried to persuade Antigone not to go through with the burial.
