Reading The World Ideas That Matter Ethos Pathos Logos
In the book Reading the World Ideas that Matter explains how there are three moderns of persuasion
which are; ethos, pathos, and logos. Aristotle states that ethos is more about communicating with
your audience. An ethos speaker would use such as, changing their tone of voice, physical
appearance and comforting an audience. Credibility, authority and reliable describe an ethospoint of
view. Michael Austin gives us four ways to create a good ethos in writing; First, establish your
credibility, as you explained to the audience why are you giving them your opinion. Secondly, be
generous to others points of view, avoid disrespecting the audience. Third do not show off, always
make sure you point out the facts that are relevant to the argument. Avoid being overbearing, what
Austin meant by that is not to be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sometimes pathos can be manipulative, but if its use correctly it can help you connect with the
reader and exemplify the emotional piece of a topic. Pathos emphases on emotion, imagination
and sympathy. In the book, Austin gave us a list that can be used as emotional appeals, sympathy,
fear, anger, belonging and pride/vanity. Logos is more about logic and reason, according to
Aristotle. Logic speakers have a reason and evidence behind an argument which makes the
argument more persuasive. In the first video, Drunk History Claudette Colvin and Rosa Parks are
using ethos, because they are explaining the facts on what happen, which is creditability. The
narrator also is explaining in a way that a younger generation can understand, which Aristotle states
in the book Be generous to other points of view (664). Drunk History Claudette Colvin and Rosa
Parks shows ethos because she talks about N.A.A.C.P and the issues that occur with Rosa Parks and
Claudette Colvin, on how they both got along. On Drunk History John Adams vs Thomas Jefferson
video, the narrator is using pathos. John Adam s character puts false thoughts about Thomas
Jefferson into the public

Financial Ratio Analysis Of Mytoys Company
The table above demonstrates the financial ratio analysis of MyToys company, the financial
performance of MyToys is not doing well. The primary reason is the company is still young and
intensely depend on the loan, but the sales revenue of the company is increase every year.
Current ratio indicates how liquidity the company pay off its obligations, in the case of
MyToys, the current ratio has somewhat decrease from 2014 to 2015. The higher the current
ratio the company has, shows that the company is more favorable. The debt ratio and debt to
equity ratio of MyToys is high, means the company almost need to sell off all of its assets to
cover its debts. Having more than 0.5 shows the company is in a risky situation. MyToys do
depend more on the bank loan because it is still a new grow company. In 2015, the company has
reached the maximum limit of overdraft from the bank. MyToys need to reduce its debts in the
future in order to draw in more investors to invest in the organization. Inventory turnover ratio
shows how effectively the company sell its stocks for the period. The higher turn that the company

The Famous Poems Of Charles Baudelaire s Les Fleurs Du Mal
One of the most famous poems of Charles Baudelaire Les Fleurs du mal , he introduces the term
Flaneur. Meaning stroller or anbler, this word has no literal explanation in the English language.
FlГўneur is a person who generally moves around on the streets. Baudelaire, in one of his earliest
poems, The Sun which depicted the spontaneous quality of frolic through the city: Along the old
outskirts of town, where Venetian blinds in hovel hide secret lecheries, when the cruel sun strikes
with redoubled ray town and country, rooftop and wheatfield, I go to practice by myself my
whimsical swordsmanship, sniffing at any corner for chance rhymes, tripping over words like
curbs, bumping sometimes into lines long sought in dreams. FlГўneur strays around the city to
understand the secretive bliss in its earliest embodiment. The poetic creativity here is considered
as the origin of capital. The stroller or the artist can happily forget about the worries when on the
streets and here he even finds the rhythm and expression to nourish his poetry. In later
demonstrations, Flaneur is filled with separation, sorrow and spleen as it has been described. Paris
was considered to be the most typical lieu d exil, which was the emblem of the barren status of
modernity. Flaneur goes through an intense namelessness which lines the personality of the
flГўneur. The skill of the Flaneur lies in his craft of converting the spleen , discontent and agony
into bliss.

significance, as do both the individual brands.
The Kraft Foods and Heinz Company both were doing well enough for themselves. Ever since the
merger though, their stock offerings on NASDAQ have been performing above par. They have
excellent growth which has doubled since June 2014. They now sit comfortable at a high of 84,

Examples Of Sexism In The Princess And The Frog
I chose to analyze the movie The Princess and the Frog since I knew how sexist Disney princess
movies in the past, such as Cinderella and Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, have been, but
also the interesting twists that try to hide sexism in the more modern tales. The Princess and
The Frog really is a classic Disney love story. Tiana is a woman in New Orleans who dreams of
one day running her own popular restaurant along the Mississippi River. Prince Naveen travels to
New Orleans with the sole purpose of marrying a rich woman to reclaim his part of his family s
fortune. His greed is his downfall when he seeks the services of Dr. Facilier, a voodoo man who
turns him into a frog and turns his servant, Lawrence, into the prince. In a chance meeting at a
masquerade ball, Tiana and frog Naveen meet. Naveen promises to pay for Tiana s restaurant if
she would kiss him to turn him back into a human. Tiana relents, kisses him, and then is also turned
into a frog. It is a race against time for them to find a way to turn themselves back into humans....

This stereotype is somewhat true since Prince Naveen is turned into a frog, fulfilling the animal
part. The only way that he can go back to being human in the film is by kissing a princess. The fact
that the kiss has to happen between a male and a female emphasizes the standard of heterosexual
relationships that was set as the social norm before by the men on the trolley. This is not the only
thing the kiss symbolize. The kiss also symbolize Naveen s reliance on women. Naveen tells Tiana
in confidence that he had never learned how to do anything because his parents did everything for
him. Naveen is used to the nurturing of his parents and expects everyone, included Tiana, to
provide everything for

The Significance of the Frontier in American History
How does Turner explain the recurring need for communication and transportation along the
American frontier? What Turner wants to point out here is that the American West is the most
important feature of American history, and of the development of its society. He refers several
times to a process of Americanization and we will see that the definition he gives of it is a very
peculiar one. He gives a definition of the frontier: it lies at the hither edge of free land , meaning
that he considers the Indian territory to be free land. According to him the frontier is the meeting
point between savagery and civilization , the most rapid and effective Americanization . The
process of Americanization he refers to is in fact a double... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Year by year the farmers who lived on soil, whose returns were diminished by unrotated crops
were offered the virgin soil of the frontier at nominal prices. Their growing families demanded
more lands, and these were dear. The competition of the unexhausted, cheap, and easily tilled prairie
lands compelled the farmer either to go west and continue the exhaustion of the soil on a new
frontier, or to adopt intensive culture.
Thus the census of 1890 shows, in the Northwest, many counties in which there is an absolute or a
relative decrease of population. These States have been sending farmers to advance the frontier on
the Plains, and have themselves begun to turn to intensive farming and to manufacture. A decade
before this, Ohio had shown the same transition stage. Thus the demand for land and the love of
wilderness freedom drew the frontier ever onward.
Having now roughly outlined the various kinds of frontiers and their modes of advance, chiefly
from the point of view of the frontier itself, we may next inquire what were the influences on the
East and on the Old World. A rapid enumeration of some of the more noteworthy effects is all that I
have time for.
First, we note that the frontier promoted the formation of a composite nationality for the American
people. The coast was preponderantly English, but the later tides of continental immigration

According To A Violence Policy Center Analysis Of News
According to a Violence Policy Center analysis of news reports, concealed carry permit holders
have killed at least 11 law enforcement officers and 319 private citizens since May 2007, 19 of
these were mass shootings, and 27 murder suicides. I personally believe that individuals in
America without a criminal record should not be able to carry a concealed weapon in public
settings. Carrying a concealed weapon in public settings is automatically imposing a threat on
those around you. It increases the chances of an altercation escalating and turning lethal and is
portrayed as self defense . Giving individuals the right to carry a concealed weapon in public
settings makes the ones without a weapon feel less safe, or intimidated at all... Show more content

There are many rules and regulations that are made out to follow for those carrying these
weapons. If a person were not emotionally or mentally stable, they would not be allowed to get a
permit to carry the weapon with them. You cannot predict the future; an individual can be
perfectly stable when purchasing a weapon, but further in time can possibly become unstable
due to unforeseen circumstances. Due to these unforeseen circumstances it can make an
individual do things that are out of character, which is keeping a gun in an concealed place
while in public can be problematic. One person s personal problem can lead to taking the life of
another, as described in the media, during mass shootings, or parking lot confrontations. The
public safety in general should never be compromised under any circumstances. Public safety is
the main concern to everybody, I want to feel safe when I am gone out to the mall, not always
have the fear of something tragic happening due to someone else s silly mistake. According to an
article on concealedguns.org, they believe public safety should be left to professionally qualified
police officers, not to private citizens, with less or no training. Not everybody is capable of
handling a life or death situation while using firearms in a mature way, possibly allowing the
situation to escalate more then what it was in the beginning. For example if I was to be at the mall,

Video Art Evaluation
I will give myself 79 for the video I shot. It is fairly engaged the project theme. It is a non
narrative video and exactly one minute. I think the most prominent point of my video is the
conceptual development. I watched carefully of the videos you played in the class and put on the
coursespaces. I also watched many video art projects after class in order to apprehend the idea of
video art and tell the differences between video art and filmand cinema. Then, I chose to shoot a
video of my friend who performed a series of body movement. She did a handstand at the
beginning of the video, and she tumbled for three times, then tried to stand upside down for
many times; in the end, she showed a state of physical exhaustion. I designed all the actions, and
did all the shoot and edit work. I believe the content of my video is fairly well with the category
of video art. The most dissatisfied of my my video is the quality of it. It is not very clear and
showed my poor grasping of basic camera knowledge. Actually, when I borrowed the camera
(Nikon D90) from the department, they told me that it is not good for shooting videos. Those better
cameras( the Cannons) were all borrowed by other students. So when I was shooting the video and

How Your Local Restaurant Doesn t Charge
Your local restaurant doesn t charge you a fixed price and tell you to gorge yourself on whatever
comes out of the kitchen. Most restaurants operate on an Г la carte basis, allowing diners to choose
foods they like from the menu and eat only what they want (and can afford). If you don t like
broccoli or raspberries, you don t pay for them; if you re a vegetarian you don t subsidize the meal
of the carnivore at the next table.
Cable companies don t operate like that. Comcast and AT T package all that food and shove it
down their customers throats like the Widette family descending on a smorgasbord. You wanta

We bought a Mohu amplified antenna for each television; sleek modern designs unlike Grandpa

signal boost because the TVs are on the far side of the house from the towers, so the signal also
had to penetrate several walls. That cost about $120, plus the time to fiddle with the antennas and
get them located and oriented correctly. We can now pull in the major networks ABC, CBS, CW,
Fox, ION, my 20, NBC and PBS in HD for the first time, plus secondary channels that broadcast old
movies or reruns. In addition, we can get perhaps a dozen Spanish language stations, twenty or so
different religions stations, and even a Vietnamese language channel.

Wise Blood, by Flannery O Connor, is an fascinating yet disturbing novel. Wise Blood is a story

Clearly, religion had a negative impact on Lily Sabbath, but in the real world, does religion have
a positive or negative impact on children? John Bartkowski, a Mississippi State University
sociologist and his colleagues asked the parents and teachers of more than 16,000 kids to rate
how much self control they believed their children showed, how often they exhibited negative or
unhappy behavior and how well they respected and worked with their peers (livescience.com).
The researchers then compared their answers to how often these children s parents said they
attended religious services, talked openly about religion with their child and argued about
religion at home. The kids whose parents regularly attended religious services and talked openly
with their kids about religion were said to have better self discipline, social skills and learning
abilities than kids with non religious parents. The children whose parents often argued about
religion were more likely to have these problems. Bartkowski noted that Religion can hurt if faith
is a source of conflict or tension in the family. If religion has such a positive impact on children,
why is there so much crime? Are crimes often connected to religious preferences?
It was found that young adults who consider themselves spiritual

destroyed by Charlie Company because of the orders given by one man. Lieutenant William Laws
Calley Junior. Calley grew up in a very conservative town where he eventually enlisted in the Army

Lieutenant Calley grew up in Columbus, George near Fort Benning. Columbus is a staunchly
conservative town of nearly 180,000 people, where a huge billboard proclaims JESUS IS
LORD. With landmarks like Arsenal Place and newsstand offerings like the Bayonet and Army
Times, it sometimes suggests a military theme park (Unger). After Calley finished high school he
decided to go to college but ended up doing poorly. He moved through several jobs unsuccessfully
eventually enlisting in the military. With his firm conservative background, it is no surprise that
as the Vietnam War grew and he was unsuccessful in all his other endeavors that he would enlist.
He went to basic training at Fort Benning then after which he was transferred to Fort Lewis,
Washington where he trained as a clerk typist (Biography). Calley applied to Officer Candidate
School, was accepted and completed it in 1967.
Calley was described to be an average officer. His training was cut short and sent to Vietnam.
The Vietnam war was characterized by a lack of public support on the home front, and thus
carried over to a war fighting force that was less than happy to be there and even less likely to act
like the military members that had been seen in past wars. The overall culture of the war was very
different. The war also used indiscriminant bombings with napalm. Villages were destroyed even
with civilians in them just to eliminate a few Viet Cong fighters.

How To Improve Radiator Maintenance
Radiator Maintenance Keeps Your Car From Overheating And Breaking Down On The Road
Preventative maintenance is the most important thing you can do for your car whether it is
brand new or used. Fixing problems before they turn into malfunctions can save you from being
stranded on the road. It will also save you from expensive repairs. Every system on your car as well
as the tires needs to be cared for to keep them in top shape. The car s cooling system is no
exception because if it becomes worn or damaged, your car can overheat or freeze up. Here are
some things to know about maintaining the radiator in your car. Check The Fluid Level
Regularly You ll want to check the level of coolant in the radiator on a regular basis to make
sure it stays full. The level shouldn t drop, so if it does, you ll want to take your car to the shop
to find the leak and have it repaired. Checking the level of coolant is easy because you can see it
just by looking. There s no need to use a dipstick like when you check the oil. When you take
your car to the shop for regular service checks, the mechanic will also check the level of fluid in
your radiator to guard against potential problems.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You can follow the recommendations of the car manufacturer since the guidelines vary
according to the model of the car. However, how you drive your car also affects how often you
need to change the fluid. If you pull a boat or camper, that puts a strain on the cooling system of
your car and may require the fluid to be changed more often. Your mechanic can test the quality of
the fluid to make sure it hasn t degraded and to make sure it is free from contaminants such as
rust. If the fluid is no longer high quality, it should be changed even if it is ahead of the

Comparison Of Fashion In The 1960 s
Trends today, are hardly ever completely new. More often than we may notice, we recycle trends
and styles and then add our own modern turns. Even though fashion and style in today s pop
culture is about individuality; we share several similarities with the fashion scene of the 1960 s.
Fashion took a everlasting turn in the 1960 s and some of our most iconic looks come from the
decade.
Even though the 60 s are best known as the decade for crazy experimentation; when it came to the
world of fashion, there was a bit of slow change. As the decade began nothing revolutionary had
sparked from the previous years. The decade started off with classical, conservative and restrained
styles. Rolling into the mid 60 s, looks became more long, slender and colors brightened, albeit still
subtle. The British Invasion hit and for the first time in decades London became the fashion capital
of the world, not Paris. It wasn t until the late 60 s struck that the fashion world exploded. Bright,
swirling colors, psychedelic tie dies, long hair and beards were all the rage. Clothing became sleek
and modern; the term of unisex also came about as women s clothes became more masculine and
men s clothing in turn more feminine. (RetroWaste)
For women, fashion in the beginning of the 60 s hadn t changed much from the 50 s. There was
also hints of styles from the 1920 s and 1930 s. However by 1963 small changes were becoming
more noticable. Clothing seen on Audrey Hepburn in the film Breakfast At

How Does Elie Wiesel Change Throughout The Book Night
Elie Wiesel: Transformation Throughout Night
Night is a memoir on how surviving the holocaust could change a person3. The book Night, by Elie
Wiesel, involves mostly himself (Elie Wiesel) and his father, and how he survived the holocaust,
along with death camps Auschwitz/Birkenau, Buna, Gleiwitz, and Buchenwald. This memoir
shows how Elie manages to survive the holocaust, while in a concentration camp. Surviving the
holocaust changed Elie Wiesel forever. Although Elie Wiesel s experience has affected him, it
has had a negative effect on him. As he says Never shall I forget that smoke. Never shall I forget
the small faces of the children whose bodies I saw transformed into smoke under a silent sky.

in the concentration camp. Another thing that Eliezer says is, I shall never forgive them for this.

starts to let other people be beat, and take shots in order to preserve his own well being. He
changed in order to protect himself from the nazis, and to stop from not surviving. Another
thing that Eliezer changed in order to survive was his protectiveness over his father. When it
says in the book, I had made my mind to accompany my father wherever he went. This helps to
show that Eliezer feels more fond of his father, and he knows that if he dies, his father will die
too. Therefore Eliezer accompanies his father everywhere to stay close to him, and to go on with

Access To College Students
In this day and age, technology takes center stage. Temple College students understand this well,
considering nearly all school assignments require access to a computer and the internet. This need
for technology prompts a vast majority of students to take advantage of the computers provided by
the school. However, these students are forced to maneuver around blocked websites and other
internetrestrictions put in place by T.C. Temple College students should have access to all websites
when they are using T.C. computers on the grounds that students are mature, they are paying for
access, and restricted access to the internet limits students resources. College students are mature
enough to have access to the full, uncensored internet. Society expects young adults, more

When college students pay tuition, they are paying not only for their classes, but for the resources
that the school offers; this includes access to school libraries, tutors, and, yes, school computers.
By limiting students access to school computers, school administrators are essentially ripping
college students off. Many would counter this statement with claims that colleges have the right to
block any website that they desire to, and this is correct, however, by including the cost of these
resources in with the cost of tuition, college officials are not being reasonable. Students pay a full
price for this tool, but colleges come up short in the delivery, ultimately providing students with a
below par service; no matter how you try to phrase this, unknowingly paying to be limited is simply

Nehemah Case Study
Principles of Leadership from Nehemiah Nehemiah 3:1 23 Observation: After inspecting the
broken down walls of Jerusalem, Nehemiah presented his concern for the safety of Jerusalem
and his mission and vision to rebuild the walls to the city officials. Along with this God sized
dream, God provided Nehemiah with a strategic plan. First, Nehemiah divided this massive public
works project into manageable pieces; assigning segments of the wall to different families, guilds,
or communities. Second, he assigned many segments to people with a personal stake in both the
speed and quality of the work. Although facing several external and internal obstacles to the work,
the Israelites were able to restore the city walls in only fifty two days. Principle: Servant leaders
understand the importance of motivating people to focus on their strengths and passions (Leman,

Austere conditions had left many families with difficult chooses to make in order to feed their
families, some mortgaging their farms, while others even sold their children into slavery with no

the city and their lives better. He made the leaders swear to not only end their practice of charging
their brothers interest to purchase food for their families, but also that they would return the lands

5.The key argument of R.B. Bernstein throughout all of the book is that we must no longer hold the
Founding Father as a group, but we must treat them as individual humans with flaws, failures, and
diversity. Throughout all of history Americans have debated the original intent of the Founding
Fathers and treated them as if they have superhuman wisdom and their handiwork with superior
admiration. R.B. Bernstein attempts to remove the Founding Fathers from their status of worship
so that the American people can meet them eye to eye and form a more sensible impression of
who they were. He spends the majority of the preface establishing the conflicting views people
have on the Founding Fathers today, and he ends the preface by stating his goal

The Importance of the Influenza Vaccine Essay
Illnesses have long haunted the human race. As long as these illnesses have existed, humans have
developed ways to cure themselves, beginning with simple herbs and proceeding as far as vaccines
and complex medicines. One cure that long eluded scientists was that of the influenza virus. Now,
the influenza vaccine, or flu shot, saves thousands of lives a year and helps prevent serious
complications resulting from influenzainfection.
At no time was a search for the cure for influenza more frantic than after the devastating effects of
the pandemic of 1918. The pandemic killed somewhere between twenty and a hundred million
people, making it twenty five times more deadly than the ordinary cough and sneeze flu. The
symptoms of this flu ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first attempt was a great success, but when they tried the same experiment again, the second
pig remained perfectly healthy. Even after repeating this experiment dozens of times, a pig never
became sick. While working with the yellow fever virus in his lab, Paul Lewis became infected
with it and died. Robert Shope, even though distressed at the loss of his mentor, continued the
influenza research, going back to the idea that the flu was caused by a virus. To act upon his theory,
Shope filtered the mucus from sick pigs through a filter that allows only viruses through. He
administered the virus to healthy pigs, but they did not become infected. Shope was beginning to
believe that the cause of influenza is what is known as multifactorial, when a disease has no single
cause. He postulated that perhaps the virus and the bacterium must work together to cause
influenza. Professor Wilson Smith, Sir Christopher Andrewes, and Sir P. P. Laidlaw were
investigating a pandemic in England at the same time as Shope was conducting his research. They
began attempting to infect ferrets by giving them filtered human mucus that contained influenza
virus; the first experiment was a resounding success. By collaborating together, these scientists
learned that the cause of influenza was a virus. In the years after Richard Shope made his discovery,
scientists continued to research influenza. In 1936, these scientists discovered that influenza can be

Elizabeth I and the Spanish Armada Essay
Elizabeth I and the Spanish Armada
The cold, stormy night was all too familiar to the English. A devious plan by Spain s king, Philip
II, was being formed to overthrow Queen Elizabeth I of England and rid the world of the English
heretics. 1 It was a story of deception, false judgments, and poor planning. What was one king s
dream turned into his country s nightmare. While the Spanish had bad leaders, the English had
good ones. The Spanish had bigger, but slower ships, while the English had smaller and faster
ships. The English knew the weather conditions and how to prepare for them, while the Spanish
thought it would not be a problem. The English entered the battle in a calm manner, while the
Spanish were overconfident. All of these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the beginning of her reign, she made the Church of England the official religion of England
and she fashioned her court after that of her fathers. For a woman during that era, Elizabeth was a
very daring and smart ruler. For example, she secretly encouraged sailors such as Francis Drake to
make raids on Spanish shipping and challenge their naval superiority. When she was a little girl,
she was well educated and was able to speak several languages, including French, Spanish, and
Latin. In addition, throughout Elizabeth s reign, there was always the threat of hostilities in some
form or another. Elizabeth kept the peace between rival leaders of different religions by
dominating her court so she could keep the balance of power.2 She was smart enough to come up
with a plan which kept the church at bay with their questions of marriage.3 She also calmed the
Spanish and the French by entertaining suitors of each respective country; Philip II of Spain and
Duke of Anjou of France, but she never married either of them and was therefore known as the
Virgin queen .4 Elizabeth was a Protestant queen who was not always on good terms with most
Catholic rulers of Europe. Because of that, there were several assassination plots against her so the
Catholics could put Mary, Queen of Scots, in her place. During the 1580 s, Elizabeth began to
bring her full weight onto the catholic rebels. Hundreds of Catholics died at the stake just as the

Case Title : NLRB on behalf of Mrs. Dawn vs. American Medical Response of Connecticut
Company Case number: 34 CA 012576 Date Opened: 01/19/2010 Status: closed Presentation of
the Case The case filed by NLRB was between the American Medical Response of Connecticut in
New Haven and one of their employees called Mrs. Dawn. Upon verbal disagreement with her
supervisor, Mrs. Dawn posted a negative remark on her private facebook wall about the
supervisor. The remark attracted comments from her staff mates. On reporting to work the
following day, she was suspended and later fired. The company argued that her act was a
violation of their internet policy by criticizing her overseer online. The Hartford NLRB office
filed a complaint of unlawful dismissal of Mrs. Dawn stating that the party was involved in
protected concerted activity on Facebook at the time when she criticized her senior. In addition,
NLRB identified several unlawful provisions within the company s manual of conduct. However,
before hearing, the company opted for an out of court settlement with Mrs. Dawn besides revising
their unlawful provisions in their handbook. Rationale of the NLRB Decision I agree with NLRB
s decision since Dawn activity can be classified as a concerted activity. Reflectively, a concerted
activity is that which involves an employee expressing views t other employees with the intention
of either criticizing or suggesting an alternative response to mistreatment at place of work.

Physics, Love, and Richard Feynman
Introduction
Physics. Love. These two words sum up the entities that Richard Feynman held most important
throughout his entire life. An extraordinary individual, Feynman was able to combine an incredible
mind with an incredible personality to achieve ends bordering on the magical. After Feynman s
death in 1988, physicist Hans Bethe, paraphrasing the mathematician Mark Kac, spoke of two
kinds of geniuses. He explained that the ordinary kind does great things but lets other scientists feel
that they could do the same if only they worked hard enough. The other kind performs magic. Bethe

Before Richard Phillips Feynman was born on May 11, 1918, his father had proclaimed, If it s a
boy, he ll be a scientist (Mehra 1994, p. 2). He was right, although it is interesting to note that
Feynman s sister Joan, nine years his junior, also has a Ph.D. in physics (Feynman 1988). But
while Melville Feynman might have been wrong about predicting the careers of his children
based on their sex, he certainly prepared the young ones well for the scientific occupation. In an
interview just before his death, Feynman was asked if he could name a great influence in his life.
He said, My father. Early in my life, he d tell me about the world, about nature and how interesting
it was (Brian 1995, p. 49). The elder Feynman took his son on long walks in the woods, read to him
from the Encyclopedia Britannica, and encouraged him to conduct experiments with household
materials. Throughout elementary school, Feynman tinkered with toys, clocks, radios, and
anything else he could secure for his laboratory, a workspace in the corner of his bedroom. Besides
influencing Feynman to think about the wonders of science from a young age, Melville taught his
son some non scientific lessons that would greatly impact Feynman s views on certain issues. For
example, Feynman learned from his father to show indifference to authority, and to devalue honors
and awards. Melville was in the uniform business, and knew that there was no difference between a

Copernicus Research Paper
The Copernicus revolution set way to a major shift in how we see the universe. The previous
understanding that the sun, moon and all other celestial objects in our solar system revolved around
the sun went unchallenged for thirteen hundred years before Copernicus suggested a radically
different way of thinking about the universe. Copernicus suggested that it was not the stars which
seemed to be orbiting the earth but the earth itself that was moving. He suggested that the earth
constantly rotated on its own axis every twenty four hours. It turns out the movement of the heavens
(Russell par.6) had been one huge illusion caused by the constant moving of those that observed the
night sky while studying our solar system. As controversial as this... Show more content on

Aristarchus of Samos wrote a book which included several hypothesis that lead them to the outcome
that the universe is immensely greater than what humans believed. Other hypothesis state that the
sun among with fixed stars remain still, the Earth will continue to orbit the sun in a circular
circumference, and that sphere of the unmoving stars is so significant that the circle in which the
Earth is supposed to revolve in carries a great distance to the unmoving stars and the spheres
center absorbs its surface. Aristarchus hypothesis increased the belief for there to be a
distinguishable parallax with the unmoving stars common to one another as the Earth revolves
around the sun. Scholars from all over the world could have come out with their farfetched theories
and hypothesis sooner except that many were in the same position as Copernicus and were afraid
of the condemnation, disapproval, scorn, and controversy they would receive from religious
authority figures and religious scholars. After a couple generations had passed and Copernicus
theory had become accepted worldwide, Copernicus had gained copious amounts of influential
scholars that defended his theories in hopes to continue discovering more about the universe.
Among these scholars was Galileo Galilei who served to improve the heliocentric model even
further by using a telescope, which he created that made objects twenty times larger, to help him
resolve lingering issues within the heliocentric model as well as discovering characteristics
regarding the heavens that double as support for heliocentrism. Galileo s discoveries didn t stop
there, he went on to discover moons orbiting Jupiter, the faults and shortcomings of the moons
surface and spots on the sun. These discoveries helped diminish the previous understandings that all
planets were unlike Earth that appeared as flawless orbs. Even though Galileo made countless

Heterozygotes, which have the wild type phenotype, have normal sight which gives them the
advantage of finding a mate and have a better success with attracting a mate with their courtship
song (Kyriacou et al, 1978). The male heterozygous Drosophila had a better advantage at mating
than the homozygotes, which were the ebony, and therefore we predict there will be more wild
type by the end of the experiment. METHODS: In this experiment, the instructor provided us
with 30 ebony individuals and 20 wild type individuals. In order to get an exact amount of each
type, we anesthetized the flies and counted them off by gently using a fine point paint brush.
Then all 50 Drosophila were put into a population cage which had a lid that had six holes for the
centrifuge tubes. Two food tubes and four clean, empty tubes were added on the first day. Each
food tube consisted of half a cup full of food mixed with 6 7 milliliters of water. This was the fly
medium. The food should turn blue once the water is added. Each tube was labeled with a
number and with the date. Every two to three days we added one more food tube until all 6 tubes
contained the fly medium. After all 6 tubes were filled, the following days after we exchanged the
first food tube with a new food tube. At the end of the experiment, we fed the flies with a total of

Binary Oppisition Essay
Binary Opposition
In Greek tragedy there are many themes that are contrasted with each other. This is known as
binary opposition, which s defined as a contrast of themes that are the opposite poles of each other.
There are many conflicts in Euripides Medea and Bacchae: perhaps the three most conspicuous
oppositions are rational versus irrational, foreigner versus natives, and stereotypical dichotomy of
female and male. The first binary opposite in Euripides plays are rational versus irrational thinking,
his characters are changing constantly within the plays; there are a couple of characters that stays

different direction (216 225). He speaks about how [Semele] lied about her union with Zeus and
that he is not a god (244). But Tiresias replies back to Pentheus that [w]henever a wise man sets

that Pentheus rejoice whenever crowds gather at the palace gates and the city glorifies [your]

Cadmus also explains that [e]ven if the god does not exist, as you claim, let him be considered a

Dionysus constantly change from rational to irrational thinking throughout the play. Pentheus
thinks irrationally about what the women behavior is while they are in the mountains (354). He
believes that the women are in acts of lust with Aphrodite s pleasure (225). As for Dionysus
irrational thinking is when he punishes his family for their hybris acts towards him (1347).

Technology And Digital Storage Space
For years, traffic cameras have been a mainstay of public roads and highways without
engendering significant public concern. As long as the most significant fear was a speeding
ticket in the low three figures, the technology of mounting a moving or stationary camera with
the ability to detect and capture automobile license plates was allowed to live in peace. Since the
year 2000, however, and in part due to the falling costs of the technology and digital storage
space , the United States has seen a drastic increase in the numbers of the traffic camera s
mechanically similar cousin, the Automated License Plate Reader ( ALPR ). An ALPR system
is simply the coupling of a normal high speed traffic camera and software to store, analyze and

demand by law enforcement personnel and matched against lists of vehicles of interest, colloquially
called hot lists . This approach offers innumerable advantages over the contemporaneous point and

The Role Of Nurture In Into The Wild, By Jon Krakauer
In society, many people act different ways and were raised differently, making a divergent
society. The reason people are different is because of their nurturers, there are a lot of people
that influenced others in their lives helping them become the person they are whether it was
good or bad. There are many people that think that everyone is born the way they are and live by
their nature. And others who think people influence and make other people do the things they do.
The way people act and the beliefs they hold stem purely from their nurturer; people will act a
certain way based on how they were raised and nature has a lesser impact on the actions people

These people are nurturers who play a huge role in who an individual becomes. In the book Into
the Wild by Jon Krakauer the main character Chris McCandless leaves his family because of
family issues and the people around him influencing his decisions: [Chris] answered calmly that
no, nobody knew of his plans, that in fact he hadn t spoken to his family in nearly two years
(Krakauer 5). Chris left his family without telling anyone which had nothing to do with the
nature of him wanting to leave his family because it was built in him, no this act was because of
how much he hated his parents for not telling him about his father s affair and how he thought
he needed to get away and wasn t going to tell his family. Chris parents sent him off the edge and
the consequence of not telling him was that he left them without even telling his parents where he

Identifying and providing for special needs children is essential to special education. Once a
child has been diagnosis with a disability or multiple disabilities, a plan of care is initiated
according to the severity of their condition and their needs. This plan is individualized; one child s
diagnosis is not a reflection of the wide range conditions that affect many children. Intellectual
disabilities can be mild to profound, can be caused by different factors and can have a different

song are actually a poem linking modern day music to poetry.

God help me, I was only nineteen.
9 From Vung Tau riding Chinooks to the dust at Nui dat, IВЎВ¦d been in and out of choppers now
for months we made our tents a home, VB, and pinups on the lockers, and an Asian orange sunset
through the scrub.
13 And can you tell me, doctor, why I still canВЎВ¦t get to sleep? And night timeВЎВ¦s just a
jungle dark and a barking M 16? And whats this rash that comes and goes, can you tell me what it
means? God help me, I was only nineteen.
17 After a four week operation, when each step can mean your last one on two legs It was a war
within yourself. But you wouldnВЎВ¦t let your mates down ВЎВҐtil they had you dusted off, so
you closed your eyes and thought about something else.
21 Then someone yelled out ВЎВ§Contact!ВЎВЁ, and the bloke behind me swore. We hooked in
there for hours, then a god almighty roar. Frankie kicked a mine the day that mankind kicked the
moon. God help me, he was going home in June.
25 I can still see Frankie, drinking tinnies in the Grand Hotel On a thirty six hour rec. leave in Bing
Tau. And I can still hear Frankie, lying screamimg in the jungle, ВЎВҐTill the morphine came and
killed the bloody row.
29 And the Anzac legends didnВЎВ¦t mention mud and blood and teaars. And the stories that my
father told me never seemed quite real. I caught some pieces in my back that I didnВЎВ¦t even feel.
God help me, I was only nineteen.

Elementary Classroom Observation
This paper will look at boys behaviour in an elementary school classroom from an education
professional standpoint. Specifically, how to modify the aggressive behaviour of boys who
speak out of turn in class. It will look at the effect that behaviour specific praise has on
aggressive behaviour. Multiple forms of differential reinforcement will also be examined in
regards to how to transform a boy who acts out for attention into a boy who understands his
behaviour is not necessary. Differences between girls and boys in an elementary school classroom
will also be considered. Through this process teacher, child and the rest of the class will benefit.
This paper will begin with ideas for general classroom management and then narrow down... Show

The main behaviour issue that she would like Austin to work on is not speaking out in class.
She would like him to raise his hand before he speaks. In Ms. Walker s class, the students are
encouraged to raise their hand anytime they have something to say, a question to ask, or a
request for the teacher. Since the beginning of the school year, Austin has repeatedly disobeyed
this rule. It is posted in the front of the classroom, and Ms. Walker consistently reminds Austin of
this, but he forgets. He is not a typical bad student. He does not do this simply for the fun of it he
actually forgets to raise his hand. He has a thought and immediately wants to act on that thought.
He comes from a broken home: his father left the family when Austin was seven. His mother
struggles while working two jobs. Austin goes to the before and after school program the school
offers. His mother is loving towards all four of her children, but Austin does occasionally get
neglected. He has less than ideal self esteem and is difficult to motivate. When instructed on a one
to one basis, Austin is able to complete tasks with moderate difficulty. Ms. Walker does not have an
Educational Assistant in her class, but she does make an effort to instruct Austin individually there
are other needs in her class that take priority over this one. Behaviour specific praise for Austin

The Unnatural Institution
Slavery has been a correlating characteristic among all major civilizations. The Sumerians made
those they conquered their slaves, and used them for manual labor. The Egyptians made their slaves
build large extravagant tombs for the pharos. Romans also forced those they capture into servitude,
but the Romans also turned slavery into a commodity which allowed it to be capitalized. There
where laws that allowed a father to sell his child in to slavery. The development of all of the great
ancient cities has been on the foundation of slavery. Jurist Gaius wrote Slavery is a human
Invention and not found in nature. Institutiones (161AD). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

And you who are so busy in making that division of the captives, look with pity upon so much
misery (Yazawa Pg. 19), this statement expresses how one Portuguese seaman felt when loading
up the captured slaves. He lets the reader know that he is feeling compassion for these slaves.
Empathizing and sympathizing is natural, extended exposure to these slave trades would leave
the sailors stripped of these natural feelings. In My Bondage My Freedom, Douglass tells us that
Mrs. Auld was teaching him how to read until her husband found out. Her husband had informed
her that this boy was not a boy but property, and if educated could cause problems. After that
discussion she ignored her nurturing, motherly instincts and would treat and look at Douglass in
distain. The last group that is affected by slavery is those in which do not own slaves and are
not a slave themselves. Initially one would assume that there would be no correlation to the
cause and effect of slavery to this particular group of individuals, but in fact there is. Slavery
being cheap labor is not free labor. In slavery there is a financial cost expended by the slave holder.
This cost is induced through food, housing and more importantly training and tools to complete
production. The slaves were trained in handling tools to complete tasks. Many of the non slave
owners did not have

I Am A Middle School Special Education Teacher
Topic Choice I am a middle school special education teacher in a 1:8 resource classroom. I give
specialized math instruction to two sixth grade classes, two seventh grade classes, and two eighth
grade classes. The majority of my students perform between a kindergarten and second grade
level. The exhibited math achievement gap across my classes is disturbing. Even though my
students are identified as special needs, they should have made gains to their ability levels by
middle school. Math skills are necessary skills. Math is everywhere. Students need to learn basic
math skills, at minimum, to be successful in life. After learning basic math skills, they should be
exposed to and encouraged to learn more complex math skills. This will only increase their chances
of success. Mathematics are all around us. It is present in different forms whenever we pick up the
phone, play games, manage our money, travel to some place, play sports, meet new friends;
unintentionally in all these things mathematics are involved (Sumisha, 2012) . To learn math
properly, skills should be taught in a scaffolded manner. Basic math skills should be taught and then
built upon, with complex math skills being the teaching goal. With the incorporation of technology,
which is engaging to students, students will likely learn and be able to independently use more
math concepts. The purpose of scaffolding math instruction is to provide students who have
learning problems a teacher supported transition from

Mount Vesuvius Research Paper
Review of Literature
Introduction History of Mount Vesuvius Mount Vesuvius is the only active volcano in mainland
Europe and is considered one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world! It s elevation is over
4,000 feet (1,219 m) and the distance around the base is 30 miles (48.3 km). This humongous
mountain is located in Ottaviano, Metropolitan City of Naples, Italy, which is now known for its
ancient castles and history. It took about 300,000 years for Mount Vesuviusto look the way it does
today. This volcano started forming on the ocean floor as a submarine volcano. This mountain is a
stratovolcano. A stratovolcano forms when it erupts under the ocean repeatedly, adding layers and
layers of lava to it as it occurs. This mountain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On every eruption, volcanic ash starts forming after all the gases in magma expand and escape
into the atmosphere. Volcanic soils, also called andisols, form after all the volcanic ash from
previous eruptions accumulates. These soils bond well with organic materials, which facilitates the
plants to utilize the minerals in the soil as nutrients. As a result of all the organic minerals in the
volcano s caldera, it is now covered with trees and plants.
Mount Vesuvius has erupted about three dozen times since 79 A.D. It s most recent eruption was
on the year of 1944. But it wasn t as powerful as the 79 A.D. eruption, which by the way is the
most famous and well known. The eruption buried three nearby towns, one of which was Pompeii.
It was buried under 18 feet (5.5 m) of rubble, ash and pumice.
In A.D. 79, the Roman naturalist and historian Pliny the Younger, just 18 years old at the time,
wrote letters about the event. According to the book Volcanoes of the World: Mount Vesuvius, He
wrote that it was like a storm of stones. He was the first person in history ever to record
information about volcanoes. As a result of this, scientists now call eruptions of the most
dangerous kind, like this one, plinian. Because his written records gives scientists the earliest sight
into a volcanic eruption, they believe that the 79 A.D. eruption lasted for about 18 hours and
created a cloud of ash 20 miles (32.2 km)

Islam and Jihad Essay
The Arabic word Jihad literally means holy struggle . It is not holy war. War is war. No war can
be holy. The blood of humans is holy and sacred. The Quran says unjust killing of one man means
the killing of the whole mankind. What is just killing and what is unjust killing. When some body
kills a man without any reason or justification it is unjust killing. When the judge gives the capital
punishment to this murderer and issues the order of his death, it is a just killing. Similarly, when a
war is thrust upon you and you become the victim of persecution and aggression, you are permitted
to defend yourselves and kill the invaders or perpetrators. There are some Muslims who believe in
Jihadin the name of aversion and conversion.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus and Muhammad gave us law and code of life. All preached
brotherhood, justice, freedom, equality and peace. The prophets were the greatest champions of
human rights. They boldly revolted against the tyrants, oppressors and aggressors.
Jihad by sword is only permissible when you are attacked. It is unfortunate that Islam is being
branded as the religion of extremists, fascists, fundamentalists and terrorists. A few days ago
some non Muslim emailed me. He wrote; Islam is the religion of terrorism and Muhammad was
a terrorist. Why he wrote this? How he came to such a conclusion? First; he has neither studied
Islam nor the life of the Prophet of Islam. Second he has read or seen the terrorist activities of
some Muslim hard liners and extremists. Partly he is correct and partly he is incorrect. The
Quran about mischief mongers and the enemies of peace candidly in Sura The Cow ; when it is
said to them; В‘make not mischief on the earth . They say; В‘we are only ones that put things
right . Of a surety, they are the ones who make mischief, but they realize it not (2:11 12). The
serious, objective and rational study of the Quran testifies this verity that Islam strongly condemns
bloodshed and aggression. It is a religion of peace. The Meccans attacked Muhammad thrice. The
battle of Badr; the battle of Uhad and the battle of Trench are solid proofs of the fact that the
Muslims of Medina

Aristotle states that ethos is more about communicating with your audience. An ethos speaker would use such as, changing their tone of voice, physical appearance and comforting an audience. Credibility, authority and reliable describe an ethospoint of view. Michael Austin gives us four ways to create a good ethos in writing; First, establish your credibility, as you explained to the audience why are you giving them your opinion. Secondly, be generous to others points of view, avoid disrespecting the audience. Third do not show off, always make sure you point out the facts that are relevant to the argument. Sometimes pathos can be manipulative, but if its use correctly it can help you connect with the reader and exemplify the emotional piece of a topic. Pathos emphases on emotion, imagination and sympathy. In the book, Austin gave us a list that can be used as emotional appeals, sympathy, fear, anger, belonging and pride/vanity. Logos is more about logic and reason, according to Aristotle. Logic speakers have a reason and evidence behind an argument which makes the argument more persuasive. In the first video, Drunk History Claudette Colvin and Rosa Parks are using ethos, because they are explaining the facts on what happen, which is creditability. The narrator also is explaining in a way that a younger generation can understand, which Aristotle states in the book Be generous to other points of view (664). Drunk History Claudette Colvin and Rosa Parks shows ethos because she talks about N.A.A.C.P and the issues that occur with Rosa Parks and Claudette Colvin, on how they both got along. Meaning stroller or anbler, this word has no literal explanation in the English language. FlГўneur is a person who generally moves around on the streets. Baudelaire, in one of his earliest poems, The Sun which depicted the spontaneous quality of frolic through the city: Along the old outskirts of town, where Venetian blinds in hovel hide secret lecheries, when the cruel sun strikes with redoubled ray town and country, rooftop and wheatfield, I go to practice by myself my whimsical swordsmanship, sniffing at any corner for chance rhymes, tripping over words like curbs, bumping sometimes into lines long sought in dreams. FlГўneur strays around the city to understand the secretive bliss in its earliest embodiment. The poetic creativity here is considered as the origin of capital. The stroller or the artist can happily forget about the worries when on the streets and here he even finds the rhythm and expression to nourish his poetry. In later demonstrations, Flaneur is filled with separation, sorrow and spleen as it has been described. Paris was considered to be the most typical lieu d exil, which was the emblem of the barren status of modernity. Flaneur goes through an intense namelessness which lines the personality of the flГўneur. The skill of the Flaneur lies in his craft of converting the spleen , discontent and agony into bliss. ... • 6. Examples Of Sexism In The Princess And The Frog I chose to analyze the movie The Princess and the Frog since I knew how sexist Disney princess movies in the past, such as Cinderella and Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, have been, but also the interesting twists that try to hide sexism in the more modern tales. The Princess and The Frog really is a classic Disney love story. Tiana is a woman in New Orleans who dreams of one day running her own popular restaurant along the Mississippi River. Prince Naveen travels to New Orleans with the sole purpose of marrying a rich woman to reclaim his part of his family s fortune. His greed is his downfall when he seeks the services of Dr. Facilier, a voodoo man who turns him into a frog and turns his servant, Lawrence, into the prince. In a chance meeting at a masquerade ball, Tiana and frog Naveen meet. Naveen promises to pay for Tiana s restaurant if she would kiss him to turn him back into a human. Tiana relents, kisses him, and then is also turned into a frog. It is a race against time for them to find a way to turn themselves back into humans.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The fact that the kiss has to happen between a male and a female emphasizes the standard of heterosexual relationships that was set as the social norm before by the men on the trolley. This is not the only thing the kiss symbolize. The kiss also symbolize Naveen s reliance on women. • 7. The Significance of the Frontier in American History How does Turner explain the recurring need for communication and transportation along the American frontier? What Turner wants to point out here is that the American West is the most important feature of American history, and of the development of its society. He refers several times to a process of Americanization and we will see that the definition he gives of it is a very peculiar one. He gives a definition of the frontier: it lies at the hither edge of free land , meaning that he considers the Indian territory to be free land. According to him the frontier is the meeting point between savagery and civilization , the most rapid and effective Americanization . The process of Americanization he refers to is in fact a double... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Year by year the farmers who lived on soil, whose returns were diminished by unrotated crops were offered the virgin soil of the frontier at nominal prices. Their growing families demanded more lands, and these were dear. The competition of the unexhausted, cheap, and easily tilled prairie lands compelled the farmer either to go west and continue the exhaustion of the soil on a new frontier, or to adopt intensive culture. Thus the census of 1890 shows, in the Northwest, many counties in which there is an absolute or a relative decrease of population. These States have been sending farmers to advance the frontier on the Plains, and have themselves begun to turn to intensive farming and to manufacture. A decade before this, Ohio had shown the same transition stage. Thus the demand for land and the love of wilderness freedom drew the frontier ever onward. Having now roughly outlined the various kinds of frontiers and their modes of advance, chiefly from the point of view of the frontier itself, we may next inquire what were the influences on the East and on the Old World. A rapid enumeration of some of the more noteworthy effects is all that I have time for. First, we note that the frontier promoted the formation of a composite nationality for the American people. The coast was preponderantly English, but the later tides of continental immigration ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I personally believe that individuals in America without a criminal record should not be able to carry a concealed weapon in public settings. Carrying a concealed weapon in public settings is automatically imposing a threat on those around you. If a person were not emotionally or mentally stable, they would not be allowed to get a permit to carry the weapon with them. The researchers then compared their answers to how often these children s parents said they attended religious services, talked openly about religion with their child and argued about religion at home. The kids whose parents regularly attended religious services and talked openly with their kids about religion were said to have better self discipline, social skills and learning abilities than kids with non religious parents. The children whose parents often argued about religion were more likely to have these problems. Bartkowski noted that Religion can hurt if faith is a source of conflict or tension in the family. Fashion took a everlasting turn in the 1960 s and some of our most iconic looks come from the decade. Even though the 60 s are best known as the decade for crazy experimentation; when it came to the world of fashion, there was a bit of slow change. As the decade began nothing revolutionary had sparked from the previous years. The decade started off with classical, conservative and restrained styles. • 19. Access To College Students In this day and age, technology takes center stage. Temple College students understand this well, considering nearly all school assignments require access to a computer and the internet. This need for technology prompts a vast majority of students to take advantage of the computers provided by the school. However, these students are forced to maneuver around blocked websites and other internetrestrictions put in place by T.C. Temple College students should have access to all websites when they are using T.C. computers on the grounds that students are mature, they are paying for access, and restricted access to the internet limits students resources. College students are mature enough to have access to the full, uncensored internet. Society expects young adults, more specifically college students, to manage their own lives and time. By limiting students access to school computers, school administrators are essentially ripping college students off. Many would counter this statement with claims that colleges have the right to block any website that they desire to, and this is correct, however, by including the cost of these resources in with the cost of tuition, college officials are not being reasonable. Nehemah Case Study Principles of Leadership from Nehemiah Nehemiah 3:1 23 Observation: After inspecting the broken down walls of Jerusalem, Nehemiah presented his concern for the safety of Jerusalem and his mission and vision to rebuild the walls to the city officials. Along with this God sized dream, God provided Nehemiah with a strategic plan. First, Nehemiah divided this massive public works project into manageable pieces; assigning segments of the wall to different families, guilds, or communities. Second, he assigned many segments to people with a personal stake in both the speed and quality of the work. Although facing several external and internal obstacles to the work, the Israelites were able to restore the city walls in only fifty two days. As long as these illnesses have existed, humans have developed ways to cure themselves, beginning with simple herbs and proceeding as far as vaccines and complex medicines. One cure that long eluded scientists was that of the influenza virus. Now, the influenza vaccine, or flu shot, saves thousands of lives a year and helps prevent serious complications resulting from influenzainfection. At no time was a search for the cure for influenza more frantic than after the devastating effects of the pandemic of 1918. The pandemic killed somewhere between twenty and a hundred million people, making it twenty five times more deadly than the ordinary cough and sneeze flu. The symptoms of this flu ... Even after repeating this experiment dozens of times, a pig never became sick. While working with the yellow fever virus in his lab, Paul Lewis became infected with it and died. Robert Shope, even though distressed at the loss of his mentor, continued the influenza research, going back to the idea that the flu was caused by a virus. To act upon his theory, Shope filtered the mucus from sick pigs through a filter that allows only viruses through. He administered the virus to healthy pigs, but they did not become infected. Shope was beginning to believe that the cause of influenza is what is known as multifactorial, when a disease has no single cause. He postulated that perhaps the virus and the bacterium must work together to cause influenza. Professor Wilson Smith, Sir Christopher Andrewes, and Sir P. P. Laidlaw were investigating a pandemic in England at the same time as Shope was conducting his research. They began attempting to infect ferrets by giving them filtered human mucus that contained influenza virus; the first experiment was a resounding success. Upon verbal disagreement with her supervisor, Mrs. Dawn posted a negative remark on her private facebook wall about the supervisor. The remark attracted comments from her staff mates. On reporting to work the following day, she was suspended and later fired. The company argued that her act was a violation of their internet policy by criticizing her overseer online. The Hartford NLRB office filed a complaint of unlawful dismissal of Mrs. Dawn stating that the party was involved in protected concerted activity on Facebook at the time when she criticized her senior. In addition, NLRB identified several unlawful provisions within the company s manual of conduct. However, before hearing, the company opted for an out of court settlement with Mrs. Dawn besides revising their unlawful provisions in their handbook. The previous understanding that the sun, moon and all other celestial objects in our solar system revolved around the sun went unchallenged for thirteen hundred years before Copernicus suggested a radically different way of thinking about the universe. Copernicus suggested that it was not the stars which seemed to be orbiting the earth but the earth itself that was moving. He suggested that the earth constantly rotated on its own axis every twenty four hours. It turns out the movement of the heavens (Russell par.6) had been one huge illusion caused by the constant moving of those that observed the night sky while studying our solar system. Aristarchus hypothesis increased the belief for there to be a distinguishable parallax with the unmoving stars common to one another as the Earth revolves around the sun. Scholars from all over the world could have come out with their farfetched theories and hypothesis sooner except that many were in the same position as Copernicus and were afraid of the condemnation, disapproval, scorn, and controversy they would receive from religious authority figures and religious scholars. After a couple generations had passed and Copernicus theory had become accepted worldwide, Copernicus had gained copious amounts of influential scholars that defended his theories in hopes to continue discovering more about the universe. Among these scholars was Galileo Galilei who served to improve the heliocentric model even further by using a telescope, which he created that made objects twenty times larger, to help him resolve lingering issues within the heliocentric model as well as discovering characteristics regarding the heavens that double as support for heliocentrism. As long as the most significant fear was a speeding ticket in the low three figures, the technology of mounting a moving or stationary camera with the ability to detect and capture automobile license plates was allowed to live in peace. Since the year 2000, however, and in part due to the falling costs of the technology and digital storage space , the United States has seen a drastic increase in the numbers of the traffic camera s mechanically similar cousin, the Automated License Plate Reader ( ALPR ). An ALPR system is simply the coupling of a normal high speed traffic camera and software to store, analyze and crosscheck the data gathered with external databases. A 2011 survey by PERF found that 71% of responding agencies reporting using ALPR, and 85% plan to either begin or expand usage over the next five years. (IACP but find primary source). The reason people are different is because of their nurturers, there are a lot of people that influenced others in their lives helping them become the person they are whether it was good or bad. There are many people that think that everyone is born the way they are and live by their nature. And others who think people influence and make other people do the things they do. • 40. Elementary Classroom Observation This paper will look at boys behaviour in an elementary school classroom from an education professional standpoint. Specifically, how to modify the aggressive behaviour of boys who speak out of turn in class. It will look at the effect that behaviour specific praise has on aggressive behaviour. Multiple forms of differential reinforcement will also be examined in regards to how to transform a boy who acts out for attention into a boy who understands his behaviour is not necessary. Differences between girls and boys in an elementary school classroom will also be considered. Through this process teacher, child and the rest of the class will benefit. This paper will begin with ideas for general classroom management and then narrow down... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The main behaviour issue that she would like Austin to work on is not speaking out in class. She would like him to raise his hand before he speaks. In Ms. Walker s class, the students are encouraged to raise their hand anytime they have something to say, a question to ask, or a request for the teacher. Since the beginning of the school year, Austin has repeatedly disobeyed this rule. It is posted in the front of the classroom, and Ms. Walker consistently reminds Austin of this, but he forgets. He is not a typical bad student. He does not do this simply for the fun of it he actually forgets to raise his hand. He has a thought and immediately wants to act on that thought. He comes from a broken home: his father left the family when Austin was seven. His mother struggles while working two jobs. Austin goes to the before and after school program the school offers. His mother is loving towards all four of her children, but Austin does occasionally get neglected. He has less than ideal self esteem and is difficult to motivate. When instructed on a one to one basis, Austin is able to complete tasks with moderate difficulty. Ms. Walker does not have an Educational Assistant in her class, but she does make an effort to instruct Austin individually there are other needs in her class that take priority over this one. The Sumerians made those they conquered their slaves, and used them for manual labor. The Egyptians made their slaves build large extravagant tombs for the pharos. Romans also forced those they capture into servitude, but the Romans also turned slavery into a commodity which allowed it to be capitalized. There where laws that allowed a father to sell his child in to slavery. The development of all of the great ancient cities has been on the foundation of slavery. Jurist Gaius wrote Slavery is a human Invention and not found in nature. Institutiones (161AD). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And you who are so busy in making that division of the captives, look with pity upon so much misery (Yazawa Pg. 19), this statement expresses how one Portuguese seaman felt when loading up the captured slaves. He lets the reader know that he is feeling compassion for these slaves. Empathizing and sympathizing is natural, extended exposure to these slave trades would leave the sailors stripped of these natural feelings. In My Bondage My Freedom, Douglass tells us that Mrs. Auld was teaching him how to read until her husband found out. Her husband had informed her that this boy was not a boy but property, and if educated could cause problems. After that discussion she ignored her nurturing, motherly instincts and would treat and look at Douglass in distain. The last group that is affected by slavery is those in which do not own slaves and are not a slave themselves. Initially one would assume that there would be no correlation to the cause and effect of slavery to this particular group of individuals, but in fact there is. Slavery being cheap labor is not free labor. In slavery there is a financial cost expended by the slave holder. This cost is induced through food, housing and more importantly training and tools to complete production. The slaves were trained in handling tools to complete tasks. Many of the non slave owners did not have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. I Am A Middle School Special Education Teacher Topic Choice I am a middle school special education teacher in a 1:8 resource classroom. I give specialized math instruction to two sixth grade classes, two seventh grade classes, and two eighth grade classes. The majority of my students perform between a kindergarten and second grade level. The exhibited math achievement gap across my classes is disturbing. Even though my students are identified as special needs, they should have made gains to their ability levels by middle school. Math skills are necessary skills. Math is everywhere. Students need to learn basic math skills, at minimum, to be successful in life. After learning basic math skills, they should be exposed to and encouraged to learn more complex math skills. This will only increase their chances of success. Mathematics are all around us. It is present in different forms whenever we pick up the phone, play games, manage our money, travel to some place, play sports, meet new friends; unintentionally in all these things mathematics are involved (Sumisha, 2012) . To learn math properly, skills should be taught in a scaffolded manner. Basic math skills should be taught and then built upon, with complex math skills being the teaching goal. With the incorporation of technology, which is engaging to students, students will likely learn and be able to independently use more math concepts. The purpose of scaffolding math instruction is to provide students who have learning problems a teacher supported transition from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

On every eruption, volcanic ash starts forming after all the gases in magma expand and escape into the atmosphere. Volcanic soils, also called andisols, form after all the volcanic ash from previous eruptions accumulates. These soils bond well with organic materials, which facilitates the plants to utilize the minerals in the soil as nutrients. As a result of all the organic minerals in the volcano s caldera, it is now covered with trees and plants. Mount Vesuvius has erupted about three dozen times since 79 A.D. It s most recent eruption was on the year of 1944. But it wasn t as powerful as the 79 A.D. eruption, which by the way is the most famous and well known. The eruption buried three nearby towns, one of which was Pompeii. It was buried under 18 feet (5.5 m) of rubble, ash and pumice. In A.D. 79, the Roman naturalist and historian Pliny the Younger, just 18 years old at the time, wrote letters about the event. According to the book Volcanoes of the World: Mount Vesuvius, He wrote that it was like a storm of stones. He was the first person in history ever to record information about volcanoes. As a result of this, scientists now call eruptions of the most dangerous kind, like this one, plinian. Because his written records gives scientists the earliest sight into a volcanic eruption, they believe that the 79 A.D. eruption lasted for about 18 hours and created a cloud of ash 20 miles (32.2 km) ... • 44. Islam and Jihad Essay The Arabic word Jihad literally means holy struggle . It is not holy war. War is war. No war can be holy. The blood of humans is holy and sacred. The Quran says unjust killing of one man means the killing of the whole mankind. What is just killing and what is unjust killing. When some body kills a man without any reason or justification it is unjust killing. When the judge gives the capital punishment to this murderer and issues the order of his death, it is a just killing. Similarly, when a war is thrust upon you and you become the victim of persecution and aggression, you are permitted to defend yourselves and kill the invaders or perpetrators. There are some Muslims who believe in Jihadin the name of aversion and conversion.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus and Muhammad gave us law and code of life. All preached brotherhood, justice, freedom, equality and peace. The prophets were the greatest champions of human rights. They boldly revolted against the tyrants, oppressors and aggressors. Jihad by sword is only permissible when you are attacked. It is unfortunate that Islam is being branded as the religion of extremists, fascists, fundamentalists and terrorists. A few days ago some non Muslim emailed me. He wrote; Islam is the religion of terrorism and Muhammad was a terrorist. Why he wrote this? How he came to such a conclusion? First; he has neither studied Islam nor the life of the Prophet of Islam. Second he has read or seen the terrorist activities of some Muslim hard liners and extremists. Partly he is correct and partly he is incorrect. The Quran about mischief mongers and the enemies of peace candidly in Sura The Cow ; when it is said to them; В‘make not mischief on the earth . They say; В‘we are only ones that put things right . Of a surety, they are the ones who make mischief, but they realize it not (2:11 12). The serious, objective and rational study of the Quran testifies this verity that Islam strongly condemns bloodshed and aggression. It is a religion of peace. The Meccans attacked Muhammad thrice. The battle of Badr; the battle of Uhad and the battle of Trench are solid proofs of the fact that the Muslims of Medina ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
