Motor Vehicle Accidents Are The Number One Killer Of...
When it comes to auto maintenance, every aspect of your vehicle is important. This comes as
an obvious for most car owners. Despite this being common knowledge, a large majority of auto
owners tend to delay or neglect their maintenance altogether. In 2010, British American Auto
Care found that 85% of cars in the United States needed repair or maintenance. Not only does
regular service and maintenance reduce your costs, as scheduled maintenance outweighs large
repairs, it impacts your safety. The BAAC study went on to explain that, motor vehicle accidents
are the number one killer of people aged 1 44. Over 2,600 deaths occur each year because of car
neglect, and nearly 100,000 disabling injuries happen every year. This means that eleven people
are injured every hour and one person dies every three hours due to accidents which could have
been prevented. While all auto servicing is important, when it comes to the safety of you and
your passengers, your tyres are paramount. The study went on to find that 21% of vehicles
studied lacked ideal pressure, 16% lacked ideal depth and, potentially the most troubling, 11%
suffered from tyre damage. While these should come as obvious facts, let s delve into why
exactly you cannot put off your tyre care. If you fail to maintain your tyres, you should expect to
see a decline in your vehicle s stopping distance, ride and handling, fuel economy and several other
core performance components. Even if a tyre appears sufficient to

The Apartheid Of The South African Apartheid Essay
Introduction
Canada s Apartheid which can also be known as Canada s Indian Act of 1876. This system of
racial intolerance inspired the South Africa s oppressive regime and lead way to the better
known Apartheid in South Africa. However, since the South African Apartheid was based on our
model shouldn t it simply be known as The Apartheid ? It is interesting to note the varying global
images each of these tragic systems have had. As a student, born and raised in Canada, it is deeply
troubling that I first learned about the South African Apartheid before I learned about Canada s. It
is therefore, fascinating to see how the South African Apartheid created a global awareness and
gained support against the system of segregation while the Indian Act opponents where silenced
and the world failed to notice. Both political systems of discrimination where based on race, both
had detrimental compounded effects on current and succeeding generations. While all groups of
race where segregated, not all groups where segregated evenly. Throughout this paper I will be
looking to examine the similarities between the Coloured group of the Apartheid and the Metis
Nation of the Indian Act.
South Africa s Apartheid
Segregation between white and black long preceded the apartheid, however, this remained the prime
objective in the creation of the apartheid state. This system created a racial hierarchy which started
with franchise restrictions imposed by the Parliamentary Registration Act of

As Defined By Merriam-Webster, Insanity Is “A Severely
As defined by Merriam Webster, insanity is a severely disordered state of the mind usually
occurring as a specific disorder . The stories A Tell Tale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe and A Long
Day s Journey Into Night by Eugene O Neill revolve around the development of their deeply
flawed characters with severe mental instabilities. The damage done to the characters around them
is matched only by the mental disturbance of each of the characters. The perversion of the character
s minds is so severe, that each has convinced themselves that throughout most of each story, their
actions are not the root cause of the turmoil around them. (ADD A BETTER TOPIC

drive people to commit crimes as morally corrupt as murder without understanding how terrible
their actions are. To the narrator, to attack the blind eyethat disturbs him so and murdering the old
man are two separate events. In A Long Day s Journey Into Night by contrast, the mother in the
story, named Mary, begins a normal woman concerned with the wellbeing of her son who was
recently been diagnosed with what was commonly called consumption, but is now referred to as
tuberculosis.
Because she is so anxious about her son s worsening health, Mary withdraws, via morphine, into a
happier past (Text 2). As the play progresses, Mary s worsening mental state is reflected by her
worsening appearance, climaxing near the end of the work, when she ends the night, eyes glassy,
wedding gown half worn, high on morphine regressing back to her happiest day, her wedding day.
In her state she has completely disassociated herself from her surroundings, so much so that she
forgets to ask her son, returning from the doctor what the diagnosis was. Her addiction causes her
state to worsen throughout the play, damaging the relationships of those around her, culminating in
a complete disconnection from reality. Each of these characters suffer from mental instabilities
resulting in damage to the people

Propaganda On The Latest War Essay
Whether it be the drawing on a piece of paper promoting propaganda on the latest war, a
McDonald s commercial on TV, or the 15 second wait before a Youtube video, advertising is
everywhere. And advertisement does not only accompany the idea of pulling in potential buyers
like most people think, but the motive of advertising can also extend to many more serious topics,
such as politics. In a political debate, the promotion of advertisement is crucial in gathering a
crowd that will lead a presidential candidate for the chance to become the leader of the United
States. But how does one make an ad so appealing that it is able to convert someone s thoughts to
the ones the advertiser wants them to think? While there are many ads that fail in illustrating the
perfect picture, there is a vast number of them that are successful. Throughout the 2016 Donald J.
Trump for President ad, In Donald Trumps America, the contrast of visualizations, appealing sound
choices, and the use of language are effectively portrayed to develop a strong argument that in the
2016 election of Donald Trump versus Hillary Clinton, Clinton is unsuitable for presidency. In
almost every political advertisement, using contrast of visualizations between politicians is crucial
in trying to persuade more citizens in the United States for their vote. But how do they do it? In the
advertisement, In Donald Trump s America, there are a few different methods to how they

Flamingo Case Study
Student Description
Flamingo is a 6 year old, first grade male in a K 1 self contained class. In his class there are a
total of 7 students with 5 adults (teacher, 2 teaching assistants, and 2 1:1 aids). Overall, Flamingo
is a great student that always tries his best. Even though he tries his best, sometimes he is too hard
on himself as he strives for perfectionism.
Critical Learning Needs and Objective Flamingo has been diagnosed as having a speech and
language disability, and his parents refused to have him labeled as autistic, even though he has
difficulty with processing and focusing. Besides helping Flamingo stay on task, he needs 1:1
support as he completes his classwork. In regards to ELA, Flamingo is a strong reader, but has

back into the text to find important details. This process had Flamingo rereading the text and
putting it into his own words. By doing this, Flamingo had a better understanding of what he was
reading. At first, it did seem that Flamingo had a hard time determining what details were important
and what details were just extra. However, after talking to him and walking through different
examples, Flamingo did start understanding the difference. Overall, this project was effective
because Flamingos reading comprehension improved. Next time, before giving Flamingo or another
student this intervention, I would first have a mini lesson on how to determine important details.
This could be done by teaching the students how to actively read their text by taking notes in the
margins or on post it notes. By doing this, hopefully the student will not feel overwhelmed by
completing this task. In the future, it will be important for Flamingo s teacher to continue this
intervention but to introduce new graphic organizers as well. Introducing different graphic
organizers will be important because they all have different purposes in regards to reading and
writing. Finding different and appropriate graphic organizers will allow Flamingo to be more

The Modern Middle East
The Middle East is a region of Western Asia and Egypt; some of the countries in this region are
Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Iran, and Iraq. According to Anderson, Seibert Wagner (2006), this region is
of vast geo economic importance and since ancient times, it has been a center of world affairs. This
part matters to almost all superpowers. The geographic factors that contribute to the strategic
importance of the Middle East are; trade routes, oil, terrain or geography, ideology, and faith. The
Middle East has always been a destination for both tourists and entrepreneurs.

Soviet ships and submarines debouched into the Mediterranean is controlled by the Turkish
Dardanelles, according to Anderson William (2000). The rugged mountains landscape and miles
of deserts from Caucasus to the Himalayas, in the Middle East, provide protection to the Middle
East from any land invasion that would come from the Soviet republic. Military facilities and
bases of the Soviet are closer to the Middle East; this implies that Soviet control of this region is of
strategic importance as it shields the Middle East from the West.
The geostrategic importance of Middle East is also derived from its psychological and political
significance, Pollack (2011). It is a symbolic area serving as the center of the shrines of the three
world s greatest religions, Islam, Judaism, and Christianity. The influence of Islam extends from
this region to Morocco and profound inside Africa. Therefore, Middle East has changed foreign
policies of many world states.
In conclusion, the strategic importance of Middle East benefits most if not all nations in the World.
However, the parameters to measure this have to be in a globally extended framework. This means
that any conflict, especially that which may between the West and the East, May ultimately spell
the Middle East doom by defeating its strategic importance, Anderson William (2000). However, the
Middle East is to maintain its geostrategic importance if foreign relations between the West and the

Communication Management For Securing The Olympic...
1) The 2024 Summer Olympics are less than 22 months away... Please research one of the below
campaign host cities and use examples of Communication Management for securing the Olympic
Committee voter bid.
For the Summer Olympic games in 2024 I choose Los Angeles as the host city because it hosted
the 1932 games. Another reason I picked Los Angeles was because they are the most diverse city
in America but they are also the Western capital of the US, The Northern Capital of Latin America,
and Eastern capital of the Pacific Rim.
With that there are three main examples of communication management to help LA secure its vote
in the Olympic bid.
1)Communication Process Los Angeles released a video calling it LA24 and it shows why LA
should be chosen to hold the 2024 Olympics by having facts about LA come up throughout the
video while watching someone run or swim or bike.
2)Sport Organizational Image LA has hosted the Olympic games in 1932 so they aren t new to this
huge sporting event. The target audience in the LA24 is focused on all ages and races. I think they
wanted to show that LA welcomes everyone of every race, language, ect.
3)Sport Promotion Below are some of the sport promotional mix

Abstract Despite the increase in popularity of Outdoor management development courses, there is
a significant lack in proof of the effectiveness of an OMD. This paper looks at the various
researches that has been done in the field of OMD and identifies the expected outcomes of an
OMD as personal development, managerial development, team development and organizational

David Kolb s experiential learning model (1984) one of the most commonly used models of
learning styles defines four stages in the learning cycle: concrete experience, observation and
reflection, the formation of abstract concepts and testing in new situations. Experiential learning
increases our reserve of reliable experiences that can help us adapt to any challenging situation we
come across. When attempting to learn through experience, we first have to have a concrete
experience of a scale such that it is brief enough to be analyzed in detail, contains enough detail to
draw learning from and has meaning for the group analyzing it. In an OMD, concrete experience is
provided through training exercises, outdoor adventure activities and team building games.
Processing experiential learning activities through group discussions and debriefing sessions help
learn from even seemingly mundane events.
Dainty and Lucas (1992) suggest that ...the outdoors provides one of the most powerful mediums
for the development of self and other awareness . The rationale offered is that; An individual s
behavior is often clearly visible during outdoor development programmes. It is impossible to hide
behind organizational and educational norms in an environment where these no longer exist .
Similar arguments are propounded by Long and Galagan (1984, 1987). Thus, the principle is that
the outdoors provide activities and/or environments devoid of traditional

Compare And Contrast Jamestown And Massachusetts Bay Colony
On paper, both Jamestown and Massachusetts Bay Colony were founded by charter companies in
hopes of finding silver and gold in North America. However, the real reasons each colony was
founded differed. Jamestown was founded by the Virginia Company of London, while the
Massachusetts Bay Colony was founded by the MassachusettsBay Company. Both colonies ran into
similar difficulties after establishment. In the end, both were able to find a way to prosper.
The charters for both colonies stated they wanted to find silver and gold. In reality, the settlers did
want to find riches, but also had other motives. Jamestown was the first permanent English
settlement in North America and was founded in 1607. England wanted a settlement in the New
World. Jamestown settlers went in search of gold and silver deposits as well as river route to
Pacific Ocean. The hope was the river route would allow for easier trade with Asia. The Jamestown
settlers included people not accustomed to hard ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The settlers were 1000 well educated Puritan refugees from England. They left England due to
increasing pressure against religious dissenters. The Puritans created the Massachusetts Bay
Company and convinced the king to give them a charter. The king was unaware of their religious
views and they sold him on the chance of finding gold and silver. Even though the king thought the
reason for settlement was finding silver and gold, the real reason was religious freedom. The
Puritans wanted to be able to practice religion as they saw fit.
The initial failures faced by both settlements were very similar. Early problems included hunger,
illness, harsh winters, and attacks by local Indian tribes. Additionally, the Massachusetts Bay
Colony lacked fresh water and arrived later in the year than they wanted. This late arrival gave
them less time to prepare provisions and buildings for the

The Letter Apology Of The Stolen Generations By Kevin Rudd
The 2008 apology to the Stolen Generations by Kevin Rudd is historically significant for a
number of reasons (Creative Spirits, 2014). Some felt it provided closure to a painful and
traumatic part of Indigenous history while others fail to see how the apology has in the years
after proven to change the circumstances of Indigenous peoples. Impacts in areas such as health,
education, economic opportunity and involvement in child protection and/or the criminal justice
system are all areas which should have been impacted by the Apology (Creative Spitis, 2014).
However; as this essay will explore very little impact has been made in any of these areas in actual
fact in some ways the gap has been made wider or perpetuated by acts of government. The Apology
was a significant historical event but it is important to explain why it happened before examining
the affects it has had on the Indigenous community and wider Australia (Creative Spirits, 2014).
The Apology was more then just simply an apology, it acted as a statement of acknowledgement by
the Australian Government that previous governments had committed wrongdoings by removing
thousands of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their homes and families to be
placed with White families and missions (religious camps which taught children white values
essentially removing them from all their cultural roots) (Creative Spirits, 2014). This practice had
incredibly adverse affects on families, the children removed as

Robin Hood Code Of Chivalry
The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938) tells a tale of thieves that behave more honorable than the
nobles of their time. The bandits known as the Merry Men lead by a notorious thief and Errol
named Robin Hood (Errol Flynn). He leads the Merry Men in treacherous deeds to steal from those
who have the most in the land and give everything they take to lazy, scumbags, treacherous, poor
people. They protect the helpless women and children from the noble knights and kings. This seems
very confusing to most because the Merry Menare supposed to be the enemy of the righteous
people. In this essay we are going to discuss the key notes of the Code of Chivalry to express why

Robin is in England at a point where the noble are oppressing the poor with taxes and harsh
punishments. Prince John (Claude Rains) has forcefully taken over the crowd and plans to tax
the poor to get more money for his brother s release from capture. Robin hood and the gang are
just trying to level the score and this is where are first code of chivalry comes into play. Robin
Hood shows us he is a defender of women and children by taking the food from Much (Herbert
Mundin) that he catches and gives it to the hungry people in the town even though it is illegal to
hunt the king s meat. Then he also protects the women by not harming Maid Marian (Olivia de
Havilland) when they capture the legion of Prince John s men. These examples give the audience
an understanding that the bandits are actually the good guys because villains are savages and mean
to the helpless but as we can see, they are the heroes in this dark

racism and prejudice when she was a little girl growing up with prosperous dreams as well as, when

Linear Regression is a data analysis deliberated for computing the association between two variables
by connecting a linear equation to perceive information (Christensen, et al, 2014). An individual
enters data points into the calculator and the computer retains the course of the calculations and
completes the essential calculations for linear regression (Christensen, et al, 2014). Linear
Regression is a method for displaying the straight line relationship between variables by using a
linear equation to observed data. Regression analysis is a collection of statistical procedures used
to explain or predict the values of a dependent variable founded on the standards of one or more

My Best Moments In My Life Of My Family
Do you have that special person in your life that no matter what situation you are going through
they manage to put a smile on your face? There are some people in life that makes you laugh a
little louder, smile a little bigger, and live a little better. For me, this special person happens to
be my best friend Alexia Reese. Some of my best moments in life involves her. She is so full of
laughter and joy. Her humor style is definitely one of a kind, very weird and crazy. The one time
Alexia could not stop laughing was one of the most embarrassing days of her life. She had just
applied and received an interview at her dream job in the beauty department. She was beyond
excited and nervous all at once. Alexia said The one thing that makes me truly happy other than
making people laugh is beating my face . I remember receiving over twenty phone calls from her
right before her interview that morning. We tried serval techniques trying to get her to calm
down a little. Once her name was called her stomach immediately sunk to her feet. Sitting across
from the store manager answering question after question she felt sweat dripping from her
forehead. Then he asked her Why should we hire you for this job ? Alexia was not prepared for
this question. Her mind went completely blank. The room was super quiet. Next thing you know
she let out a huge fart that sounded like a gun being fired. She finally responded, I shouldn t have
eaten McDonald s before I came here huh ? Her face was full

Diabetes Affects The Body
Diabetes is a disease that affects the use of insulin in the body. According to the Merriam Webster
Online Dictionary diabetes mellitus is a disorder of carbohydrate metabolism caused by a
combination of hereditary and environmental factors and usually characterized by inadequate
secretion or utilization of insulin, by excessive urine production, by excessive amounts of sugar in
the blood and urine, and by thirst, hunger, and loss of weight ( Diabetes Mellitus). This disease not
only impacts the amounts of sugar in the blood, it also has lasting effects on the rest of the body.
Diabetes impacts the body and its systems negatively if the body s blood sugarlevels are not treated
or maintained properly.
In the body there are twelve different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Type one is characterized as an autoimmune disease, because the body targets it s own beta cells
in the pancreas. The beta cells are cells that produce insulin for the entire body. The body stops
making insulin, causing people to become insulin dependent. An insulin dependent person would
use insulin injections or an insulin pump ordinarily to manage their sugar levels. Type two
diabetes is different. The body of a type two diabetic no longer responds to the body made insulin.
Beta cells destroy themselves from the overproduction of insulin because the cells themselves try
to compensate for the deficiency of insulin. Type two is either treated without medications like
exercise and diet or with insulin tablets. But, there are some occurrences in which insulin injections
would be needed ( Differences Between Type 1 and Type 2 ). Both types are dangerous if not
monitored, and cause the circulatory system to

Confucianism Essay
Confucianism
Confucianism is a moral and religious system of China. Its origins go back to the Analects, the
sayings attributed to Confucius, and to ancient writings, including that of Mencius. Confucius was
born a mandarin under the name Kongzi. It was developed around 550 B.C. In its earliest form
Confucianism was primarily a system of ethical concepts for the control of society. It saw man as a
social creature that is bound to his fellow men by jen, or humanity. Jen is expressed through the five
relationships sovereign and subject, parent and child, elder and younger brother, husband and wife,
and friend and friend. Of these, the filial relation is most important.

The practice of offering sacrifices and other rituals to Confucius in special shrines began in the 1st
century A.D. and continued into the 20th century.
Confucianism has often had to contend with other religious systems, mainly Taoism and
Buddhism. It has also suffered declines, especially from the 3rd to 7th century. It had a renaissance
period in the late T ang dynasty. It was not until the Sung dynasty and the appearance of neo
Confucianism that Confucianism became the dominant philosophy among educated Chinese.
Using Taoist and Buddhist ideas, neo Confucian thinkers formulated a system of metaphysics,
which had not been a part of older Confucianism. They were particularly influenced by Ch an, or
Zen Buddhism. Nevertheless they rejected the Taoist search for immortality and Buddhist ethical
universalistic teachings, keeping instead the political and social vision of the early Confucian
teachings. In 479 B.C. the government made it part of the civil service examination.
The neo Confucian teachings were unified and established as orthodoxy by Chu Hsi and his system
dominated Chinese intellectual life. His metaphysics is based on the concept of li, or principle of
form, and the combination of these, called the supreme ultimate. During the Ming dynasty, the
idealist school of Wang Yang ming stressed meditation and knowledge. The overthrow of the

Polio History
Eradication of disease through the simple administration of a shot seems like the perfect solution
to a complicated problem. Right? The presence of the polio virus had been a growing cause of
hysteria throughout the course of history. With cases documented back into the 1700 s, the
thought of polio, a virus that causes extensive paralysis, wrecked havoc on the minds of every
mother and father in the world. This fear grew as the spread of the virus continued to span the
globe. Parents everywhere from New York City to the African Congo were constantly concerned
that their children would be the next to fall ill. During the height of the Polio scare of the early

The Progressive Era Essay example
As the 19th century came to a close a new epoch, known as the Progressive Era emerged in
response to industrialization. This early 20th century reform movement pursued control of the
government to the people. In order to reinstate economic opportunities and to correct inequity in
American life. Progressives believed that government could be used as a powerful tool for social

way the American culturethrives off of acceptance and being bolder to not suffice but ultimately

pink Cadillac which Price directly associates to the pink flamingo saying that he bought it after
this pink phenomenon escalated. Elvis Presley is not one that comes to mind when you think
business, professional, and cultured. Price added him to her essay to emphasize exactly how our
culture is based on famous, fun, and carefree people that create trends for us to follow. The other
person mentioned is Siegel, a gangster that built the flamingo hotel and instantly created a flow of
riches to the land known as Las Vegas. The captains of industry run our wealthy culture, however
instead of businessmen such as political figures, men who run their business based off of trends,

the fifties favored flashy colors such as the hot pink used to coat the plastic flamingo. Price does
this to draw the reader s attention to these specific lines, through them she discusses how the pink

Manifesto Of Surrealism
What is surrealism? Surrealism is a revolution, pure psychic automatism, an attack of
conscience, and a new mode of pure expression according to its founder AndrГ© Breton. In his
highly controversial texts, Manifestoes of Surrealism, Breton exposes us to this new term he
coined along with his colleague Philippe Soupault in homage to Guillaume Apollinaire, someone
whom they believed had followed the discipline, and he explains the phenomenon in detail so
that more can become aware and utilize the technique. Drawing heavy influences from Sigmund
Freud and Karl Marx, Breton reveals to us the limitless opportunities of surrealism and how it
frees us from everyday reality, similar to how the exoteric texts challenged us to question our
beliefs. I The first Manifesto of Surrealism was published in 1924 succeeding dadaism, an art
movement of the European avant garde often regarded as the movement that brought forth
postmodern art. At the time of its publication, Europe was still reeling from World War I and art
was very much political. Breton and other surrealists wanted to break free from the conventional
art if the times and express the imagination as revealed in dreams. Thus, the Manifesto of
Surrealism came about in which Breton discussed the importance of merging dream and reality. In
Breton s view, one can learn to ascend to perception of a higher reality (the surreal), or more
reality, if one can manage to liberate one s psyche from traditional education, the

The Importance Of The Women s Rights Movement
Women have waged war for equal rights for over 150 years. Although women had won many
battles in the United States during that time, the 1960 s proved to be the period when the
movements greatest advances would come to fruition. The birth control pill was introduced in
1960, and in 1964 Title VII of The Civil Rights Act passed which prohibited discrimination in
employment based on a person s sex (U.S. History 884). These two events energized the women s
rightsmovement, and many significant achievements would follow. The women s rights movement
advanced more in 1960 s due to the birth controlpill and the Civil Rights Act than it had in the
previous 100 years. One of the greatest devices in the emancipation of women was the birth control
pill. It was approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 1960 and liberated women by
allowing them to restrict, postpone, or block, pregnancy, and motherhood. According to our
textbook. Within five years of the pill s approval, some six million women were using it (U.S.
History 884). The fact that the birth control pill gave women options never available to them
before made it an attractive choice. For the first time, they could choose to further their education
or have a career. As a result, the staggering number of births also known as the Baby Boomer
Generation ended in 1964. Another significant advancement for women was The Civil Rights Act
of 1964. It not only prohibited discrimination by an employer based on a person s race,

Leadership is unlocking people s potential to become better. Bill Bradley
The transformational journey of leadership is marked by personal growth and development. Once
you become a leader, success in the area of leadership is characterized by your ability to assist
others in their own personal growth and development.
As a child, nascent experiences shaped my values around selflessness and the intrinsic ability to
empower myself and others to reach optimal potential. My greatest desire has always been to
enhance the wellbeing of those that find it difficult to live their lives to their fullest potential.
Throughout my childhood, I was extremely inquisitiveНѕ I was curious about why people behaved

As a result of the aforementioned interests and experiences, I pursued an undergraduate degree as a

Peer On Peer File Sharing
Peer to Peer File Sharing
Have you ever heard of peer to peer file sharing technology or P2P? What is P2P? According to
J.A Pouwelse. P. Garbacki and his article The Bittorrent P2P File Sharing System: Measurements
and Analysis , P2P is the transfer of a digital file from one peer to another. peer refers to
computer clients. This transfer can be as simple as the File Transfer Protocol(FTP), which transfer
a file directly to a visitor s personal computer through a server hosted website (Pouwelse, Garbacki,
Epema, Sip, 2005). File sharing create many ethical issues, but these ethical issues can be
different if we are looking at it morally, ethically or legally. Moral is an individual s belief about
right or wrong. Not everyone will have the same moral beliefs because they have different
background or culture. For examples, we can see many people streaming many document online
and or sharing this document and these people do not consider this issue a problem. If we look
at it in an author stand point we might consider this issue a problem since it influences our
benefit. On the other hand, if we are looking at a user standpoint, we do not think it is a problem
because we are not paying for the information we are accessing. We can conclude, that It depends
on your cultural belief. Ethic is a belief that depends on the society. The society or a group

Edvard Munch The Scream Meaning
Art has evolved over millennia of years to become what it is now. However, what is the exact
element that people speak of when they say the word: art? The first known use of the word art
was during the 13th century, making it quite a recent word, and it comes from the latin word ars
meaning skill or craft. Through this, one might see that art is something that is created, such as
a painting or sculpture. Be that as it may, art has evolved to fit many definitions, and definitions
are simply the opinions, widespread as they are, of those that wrote the dictionaries that many
follow to this day. It is my belief that art is more than a creation made by one, but an experience,
or an emotion felt when seeing or hearing the creation. To begin, many people respond differently
to different types of art. This is because artists allow for the viewer to judge what they see for
themselves rather than force one idea onto the masses. The Scream by Edvard Munch to many
people can represent the anguish and complexity of life and all of the choices that accompany it.
However, others may see it as simply a face of surprise when encountering startlement. It does...

Due Process Racism
Due Process and Racism: Powell v. Alabama and To Kill a Mockingbird The Powell v. Alabama

same thing happened to a young black man named Tom Robinson in To Kill a Mockingbird. Nine
African American youths were accused of raping two young Caucasian women on a train to
Alabama, they were given little to no time to defend themselves, and this case shares many things
in common with Tom Robinson s case in To Kill a Mockingbird. Many believe this is why the

is that Bob Ewell testified seeing his daughter being raped from a window three feet from the

quite a distance to make out things clearly. It was then, when Tom Robinson tried to explain his

cheaper to buy the services of these companies in Sao Paulo thereby decreasing the running cost as

Agricola and Germania
Dr.Newsome
October 2, 2012
Agricola and Germania The Agricola and Germani is a novel that serves two purposes: The
Agricola is a eulogy praising Tacitus s father in law, and commander of Britian, Agricola. The
Germania is an ethnography on German people. Both stories are told through the eyes of Tacitusas
he indirectly criticizes Roman politics and society. His reason for snaking in these criticisms in
such a crafty manner had been due to his friendship with high ranking Roman officials whom he
did not want to upset. His criticisms were derived from his experiences with Agricola, speeches
given by Calgucus, and his ability to compare and contrast cultural differences of Rome and

Romans helped build temples, public squares, proper houses, and their national toga was suddenly
being seen everywhere. In their innocent they called this civilization , when in fact it was a part of
their enslavement (Tacitus, 15). By carrying over their social norms to other nations, Rome
continued to expand in an eased manner, as suggested by Agricola during his reign. Romans were
overruling nations that were unnecessary for them to. Moving forward to Germania, which
contained much more social criticism than Agricola did by comparing the cultural difference of
Germania and Rome. Tacitus described Germania as an empire that revolves strictly around their
freedom. The kings of Germania did not hold absolute control over the German citizens. But even
the power of the kings is not absolute or arbitrary. As for the leaders, it is their example rather than
their authority that wins them special admiration (Tacitus, 38). In contrast, the citizens of Rome
strongly believed that they attained their own freedom, however they were wrong in the fact that it
was the Emperor who held all power in the Roman empire. In addition, Germans treated slaves
with much more respect than Romans did. In Rome, the upper class were able to purchase
numerous slaves to work in their house, and on their land. Slave owners in Rome treated their
slaves harshly and with much disrespect, not providing them with necessities needed to survive.
Their reason for this was

Essay about Beauty and the Beast
Beaumont vs Disney: A Comparative Look into a Classic Fairy tales and stories are something
that has been around since the beginning of time. Tales were passed down from generation to
generation, and in the case of fairy tales, these stories were not at first geared towards any age
group, but instead for anyone, for entertainment purposes. Growing up, one of my favorite tales
was Beauty and the Beast. If you ask children if they know this story, I would guarantee almost
one hundred percent of them would. However, I m sure the story they would know is that of the
Disney version. In my lifetime, the majority of fairy tales I know are the Disney version. There is
more than just Disney s version of Beauty and the Beast, for example, the... Show more content on

Beaumont does not mention these characters and we find Beauty not falling in love and liking him
as quickly as in Disney. Both stories invoke a child s imagination, either with the addition of
these live castle objects or merely the presence of something magical which the child can then
come up with their own images. By doing this, the child fits unconscious content into conscious
fantasies, which then enable him to deal with that content. It is here that fairy tales have
unequaled value, because they offer new dimensions to the child s imagination which would be
impossible for him to discover as truly on his own. Even more important, the form and structure
of fairy tales suggest images to the child by which he can structure his daydreams and with them
give better direction to his life (Bettleheim 7). In another area, the differences in characters add
to some differences in the plot. With the Disney version, which people mostly relate to, the
Prince is turned into the Beast by an enchantress when he shows his selfishness. It is said that if
the Prince could learn to love and be loved in return before the last enchanted rose petal fell, then
the castle s spell would be gone (Disney 2). The difference in the roses in both stories was that
Beaumont s Beast had a garden of roses in which he told the merchant, I value more than anything I
possess (Beaumont 24). In Disney, the Beast has one rose, in a

Anti Federalist Paper Pros And Cons
The Federalist and Anti Federalist papers were created in response to the United States
Constitution. In 1787, the Second Continental Congress called for a federal convention. This
meeting in Philadelphia came to create the U.S Constitution. It originally was held to revise the
Articles of Confederation, but due to the mindsets of many proponents present at the convention,
like Alexander Hamilton and James Madison, and the vision of creating a new government rather
than fixing the old one, the United States Constitutionwas formed. Once this was sent to congress it
was submitted to the states for ratification. In response, many articles and letters were submitted to
the public criticizing the proposition. These articles and letters are where the Anti Federalist papers
are derived from. Although there was opposition to the Constitution, many were in its favor. In
response to these criticizing papers, Alexander Hamilton, John Jay, and James Madison wrote
papers in the constitutions defense. These were come to be known as the Federalist papers. Two
papers in particular, Federalist 51 and Anti Federalist 51, are written on the topic of checks and
balances and how this relates to a separation of powers within the national government. These
arguments were successful due to their primary points of contention and strong arguments proposed.
The primary point of contention in Federalist 51, written by James Madison, was to support the
checks and balances system in the United States

Theistic Evolution
Have you ever wondered how the universe came into existence? There are several different
theories or views on the origin of the world. Three of these views would include but not limited to:
theistic evolution, the big bang theory, and the view called abiogenesis.
Theistic Evolution is the belief that there is a God but he is not directly involved with the world.
This is the belief that the world was not created in one moment, without a conscious thought or
occurred naturally on its own. Theistic evolutionists believe the earth was created over a period
of time. They also believe that God only helped the process of creation. They don t believe he
created the earth or did any of the heavy lifting. The people who believe in this way are typically
those who want a religion that looks at life from a scientific point of view. This person in particular
blames God for the darkness in this world. They believe that God is just sitting back, watching as
the world turns ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Those who actively believe this theory, think that the universe has a beginning. They believe the
universe has not always existed. They believe that one moment there was nothing and another
moment the universe existed. What is currently known as the Big Bang Theory was evolved
from the standard theory. The standard theory says that the universe came into existence as
singularity around 13.7 billion years ago (Big Bang Theory). Singularities are believed to have
originated at the heart of black holes. If one can see a black hole, one is too close. Therefore
will be sucked into the black hole. Due to the powerful force of the black hole s gravitational
pull. A singularity is defined as interminably small in size, immensely hot in temperature and
extremely dense. Those who believe in the Big Bang Theory believe the universe expanded and
cooled, going from very, very small and very, very hot, to the size and temperature of our current
universe (Big Bang

Women as Instigators of Tragedy in the Works of Shakespeare
It is the very error of the moon;
She comes more nearer earth than she was wont,
And makes men mad. (Othello 5.2.112 14)
The moon is often seen in literature as an allegory for love, virtue, and chastity. In Shakespeare s
comedies, especially, the moon is personified as Diana, the Roman goddess of chastity. In these
comedies, the foolish antics of lovers (literally, lunatics ) usually occur under the auspices of the
chaste goddess, the lovers behaving like hounds about her feet that snap at each other in competition
for her bounty. The moon as allegory for the lunacy of romance helps us understand Shakespeare s
view of romance. In the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The finest example can be found in Othello. Iago convinces Othello that Othello is being cuckolded
by his wife, after which Othello questions him, referring to his wife as the moon:
Why, why is this?
Think st thou I ld make a lie of jealousy,
To follow still the changes of the moon
With fresh suspicions? No; to be once in doubt
Is once to be resolved . . . (3.3.190)
The moon/Desdemona is seen as at once chaste and inclined to change. Later, Othello accuses
Desdemona of infidelity despite her protesting innocence. Again, he compares her infidelity with
the moon: What committed!/ Heaven stops the nose at it and the moon winks . . . (4.2.74). The
moon, once chaste, is now flirting. Similarly, Othello believes that Desdemona, once chaste, is
cuckolding him. These two examples show the multiple allegories of the moon that, similarly, exist
in women.
The moon also symbolizes the changeability of Fortune. What does the Fortune have to do with the
moon? Shakespeare considered both of them to be much the same. Both have a cyclical nature
(hence the term, Wheel of Fortune ): the moon waxes and wanes just like Fortune waxes and
wanes. John Hankins noted that the traditional Latin scholarship that Shakespeare may have
studied (such as Macrobius who studied the relationship of the celestial bodies to mortals on earth)
would have lead to his understanding

Soderbergh s Use Of Editing Techniques Used In A Film
Directors utilize a variety of editing tools to highlight elements of a film s narrative. Cross cutting
is an editing technique that shows multiple streams of action occurring at the same time. Steven
Soderbergh uses this device in the opening sequences of his film, Contagion, (2011). The film
begins with a black screen and the sound of a cough from an unknown person and cuts to a close
up of Gwyneth Paltrow eating nuts out of a bowl at an airport bar. Soderbergh shows the viewer
that this is the second day of an unknown disease outbreak by superimposing the information in red

superimposes the city s name and population informing the viewer that

Child Labour In Ethiopia Essay
Introduction
Child labour is a very real problem in the world today, and although it is declining, progress is
happening at a slow and unequal pace. Child labour by the International Labour Organization is
defined as work that deprives children of their childhood, their potential and their dignity, and that
is harmful to physical and mental development (Diallo, Etienne, Mehran, 2013, p. 2). In the most
extreme forms of child labour it could account for child enslavement, separation from their
families, exposure to serious hazards and illnesses and being left to fend for themselves on the
streets (Dinopoulos Zhao, 2007). In order for certain types of work to be included as child labour
depends on the child s age, the type of work, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To further my argument I will use Ethiopia as a case study to show how globalization has
provided the push for countries to acknowledge the problem of child labour and create actions to
fix it. This paper will be divided as follows: firstly I will provide a brief background on child
labour in the world; secondly I will provide the situation in Ethiopia; thirdly I will present the
actions that the government has placed to combat child labour in accordance with my argument;
lastly, I will give my recommendations regarding the implications of the actions of the Ethiopian
government.
Child Labour in the World Today
In 2008, there were approximately 215 million child labourers, aged 5 17, in the world. According
to the International Labour Organization, the number of child labourers globally fell by 3% from
the years of 2004 2008 which is slower in comparison to the 2000 2004 period that had an 11%
decrease (Diallo, Etienne, Mehran, 2013).There has also been a 15% decrease in the number of
girls in child labour in contrast to boys who are having their work increase (United Nations, 2013).
Among them, 115 million children were in hazardous work which includes: prostitution,
agriculture, mining, militia, construction, manufacturing, service industries, hotels, bars, and
domestic service (Cigno, Rosati, Guarcello, 2002). The terms hazard and risk are often used with

Value Maximization Is Not The Optimal Approach
Enhanced Value Maximization. According to HBS Professor Michael C. Jensen (2000), pursuing
only one objective, i.e. profit maximization is not the optimal approach. A manager must develop a
structure that will help employees to resist the temptation to maximize the short term financial
performance of the organization as that s a sure way to destroy value. Though, a manager needs to
take into account the impact of their decisions on all the stakeholders as the first step towards value
maximization, the stakeholder theory falls short in describing how managers should make the
necessary tradeoffs among competing interests of its stakeholders. Jensen writes in his paper that a

Managers are looking to globalize operations, developing new markets for their products for better
strategic business outcomes. Consumers have better access to a greater variety of goods and
services and competition to reach to the new markets with the right product is getting stronger
among businesses. Globalization also gives businesses better access to a global workforce, enables
them to tap into international raw materials and financial resources. As the world economy is fast
becoming a single interdependent system, businesses have competitors, customers, employees from
anywhere in the world. As indicated in the article Leading in a Globalizing World , the author
emphasized that being successful in the global business environment takes special skills. As global
managers, the biggest challenge is to improve upon their ability to deal with ambiguity, complexity,
and diversity. Understanding the bigger picture and acquiring the global vision is the key, i.e.
staying informed what the competitors are doing, what customers prefer at different markets. For
example, a global manager needs to understand that a customer in China might probably have
different preferences than a customer living in Europe. As complex as business is today, it is
important to recognize that a manager would never have all the information / details before making
a decision. Taking a moderate amount of risks

Long Term Capital Management and the Hedge Fund Industry

Introduction
The Hedge fund industry is surrounded by much controversy and debate; and that for many years.
Lack of oversight, excessive returns, unclear impact on the market and more, are all subjects of
concerns for market participants and the public. According to Priya Jestin on Hedge Fund Street, on
an average day, between 18 and 22 percent of all trading on the New York Stock Exchange is
related to hedge funds . The increasing role that hedge funds are playing in the market is a source
of the debate surrounding them, fearing that the too big to fail problem arises in the hedge fund
industry as well.

Usually, redemptions are quarterly or even yearly with a notice period. In doing this, hedge fund
managers can vary their strategies by investing in illiquid assets since they can hold onto their
investors money for a longer and predictable period.
Last but not least, the fee structure of hedge funds is quite unique. The fees are much higher than
regular institutional fund managers. The administrative fee usually range from 1 % to 2% of the
assets under management (AUM) and the incentive fee, the large one, ranges from 15% to 20%
of net new profits. The latter fee is subject to a condition. The high watermark provision requires a
hedge fund managers to make up for incurred losses, if any, before receiving any incentives; which
would happen only after the returns are back to the previous levels. B) Trading practices
Nowadays, hedge funds have developed the trading practices to a level never imagined before.
Indeed, in order to keep investors interested in using the alternative investment world as a better
strategy to achieve profits, hedge fund managers keep finding new innovative ways to achieve
alpha. Investment strategies and styles are very diverse and adapted to the different risk profiles of
investors; some of which are quantitative while others are more qualitative in their approach. For
instance, global macroeconomic funds take positions based on their forecasts of global
macroeconomic eventswhile event driven funds do

Civil War Was A Tragic War For America
On April 12, 1861 the Confederates bombarded Union soldiers at Fort Sumter, South Carolina.
This day is known in history as the day the Civil War started. While most of the battles were
fought in Virginia and Tennessee, the Civil War was fought in thousands of places. Some of the
places other than Virginia and Tennessee included the following: Pennsylvania, Texas, New
Mexico and the Florida coast ( Civil War Facts ). The last battle was fought at Palmito Ranch,
Texas, on May 13, 1895, but the end of the war was on April 9, 1865 when Robert E. Lee
surrendered the Confederate army to Ulysses S. Grant. While the Civil War was a tragic war for
America it was also a very important war. The Civil War allowed the nation to reunite and the
southern states weren t able to secede. Also, slavery was put to an end, it wasn t officially
outlawed by the 13th Amendment, but slaves were set free at the ends of the war. The Federal
Government proved itself supreme over the states and industrialism began due to the increase of
wartime production and creation of new technology ( Effects of the Civil War ). These are just a
few examples of how the Civil War affected America. The Civil War also had a big influence on
literature and various authors ,including Margaret Mitchell, Michael Shaara, Bruce Canton, and
Randall Fuller. The Civil War affected the writings of Margaret Mitchell, Michael Shaara, Randall

Feminist Perspective On Pornography
Many people have argued that pornography is a form of artistic expression, protected by the First
Amendment of the Constitution, others feel there is a distinct line between art and porn
(Pornogrpahy). Pornography is made to provide sexual pleasure to anyone who hears, sees or reads
it, it involves erotic acts. Pornographycould be talking, acting, or anything that may sexually
stimulate someone. Pornography is also, the portrayal of sexual activities and it comes in the
form of magazines, movies, videos, and more. Pornography is often seen to overstep the bounds
of the First Amendment and misrepresent what is means by freedom of speech. Pornography isn
t something that everyone can agree on. For example, feminist are one group of people have a
variety of feelings and beliefs towards pornography. While feminist usually share the same way of
thinking this is one topic that causes a major division between them. Disagreeing to agree is a
common compromise that people face in life, but in the case of pornography feminist can not seem
to do so. Andrea Dworkinand Catharine A. Mackinnon(Feminist Perspectives), are just two of the
women that have stood up against pornography. There are a plethora of feminist see
pornography as a way to keep women oppressed and subjected to man. Almost as if porn is
taking women in a step backwards.Mackinnon believes porn is an act of sexual violence
(McElroy) and Dworkin sees it as sexist and a deliberate means of subordinating women to men
(Feminist Perspectives). Dworkin and Mackinnon collectively view pornography as not a form of
speech, but as an active discrimination and violence against women (Feminist Perspectives).
Popular pornography includes abusive scenes and language that is extremely derogatory towards
women. Through research it is also believed that due to the acts of violence and sexual abuse
depicted in pornography it is causing men to reenact and bring what they ve watched to life
(Purcell). Consequently, due to the voices of the anti porn feminist there has been many legal
actions taken against the porn industry. There has been several ordinances drawn up, a few were
done by Catharine A. Mackinnon. Mackinnon and Dworkin had a civil rights ordinance that

helped the selling and accessibility of goods in the short term, it also aided the economy in the
long term. The invention of the Diesel engine meant that goods were more accessible and money
could be gained quicker. The Diesel engine has some very terrible long term effects. Still today the
diesel engine is one of the biggest producers of pollution. Studies have shown that a Diesel engine

The Effects that Culture Has on Others
Through my years of growing up I have moved a lot and never realized I was exposed to so
much culture until I reached my high school years at Linden. I find that in my adolescence years
I was brought to accept other people for their skin color, religion, and their different opinion on
things. Moving to Linden, I was the one of a few students who seemed to really know about
different cultures and was able to embrace them. I saw how I was different compared to the
students and quickly learned, its hard to see people not understand or embrace other cultures
besides their own; when that was the way I was raised.

  • 2. Motor Vehicle Accidents Are The Number One Killer Of... When it comes to auto maintenance, every aspect of your vehicle is important. This comes as an obvious for most car owners. Despite this being common knowledge, a large majority of auto owners tend to delay or neglect their maintenance altogether. In 2010, British American Auto Care found that 85% of cars in the United States needed repair or maintenance. Not only does regular service and maintenance reduce your costs, as scheduled maintenance outweighs large repairs, it impacts your safety. The BAAC study went on to explain that, motor vehicle accidents are the number one killer of people aged 1 44. Over 2,600 deaths occur each year because of car neglect, and nearly 100,000 disabling injuries happen every year. This means that eleven people are injured every hour and one person dies every three hours due to accidents which could have been prevented. While all auto servicing is important, when it comes to the safety of you and your passengers, your tyres are paramount. The study went on to find that 21% of vehicles studied lacked ideal pressure, 16% lacked ideal depth and, potentially the most troubling, 11% suffered from tyre damage. While these should come as obvious facts, let s delve into why exactly you cannot put off your tyre care. If you fail to maintain your tyres, you should expect to see a decline in your vehicle s stopping distance, ride and handling, fuel economy and several other core performance components. Even if a tyre appears sufficient to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Apartheid Of The South African Apartheid Essay Introduction Canada s Apartheid which can also be known as Canada s Indian Act of 1876. This system of racial intolerance inspired the South Africa s oppressive regime and lead way to the better known Apartheid in South Africa. However, since the South African Apartheid was based on our model shouldn t it simply be known as The Apartheid ? It is interesting to note the varying global images each of these tragic systems have had. As a student, born and raised in Canada, it is deeply troubling that I first learned about the South African Apartheid before I learned about Canada s. It is therefore, fascinating to see how the South African Apartheid created a global awareness and gained support against the system of segregation while the Indian Act opponents where silenced and the world failed to notice. Both political systems of discrimination where based on race, both had detrimental compounded effects on current and succeeding generations. While all groups of race where segregated, not all groups where segregated evenly. Throughout this paper I will be looking to examine the similarities between the Coloured group of the Apartheid and the Metis Nation of the Indian Act. South Africa s Apartheid Segregation between white and black long preceded the apartheid, however, this remained the prime objective in the creation of the apartheid state. This system created a racial hierarchy which started with franchise restrictions imposed by the Parliamentary Registration Act of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. As Defined By Merriam-Webster, Insanity Is “A Severely As defined by Merriam Webster, insanity is a severely disordered state of the mind usually occurring as a specific disorder . The stories A Tell Tale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe and A Long Day s Journey Into Night by Eugene O Neill revolve around the development of their deeply flawed characters with severe mental instabilities. The damage done to the characters around them is matched only by the mental disturbance of each of the characters. The perversion of the character s minds is so severe, that each has convinced themselves that throughout most of each story, their actions are not the root cause of the turmoil around them. This corruption of the mind can drive people to commit crimes as morally corrupt as murder without understanding how terrible their actions are. In A Long Day s Journey Into Night by contrast, the mother in the story, named Mary, begins a normal woman concerned with the wellbeing of her son who was recently been diagnosed with what was commonly called consumption, but is now referred to as tuberculosis. Because she is so anxious about her son s worsening health, Mary withdraws, via morphine, into a happier past (Text 2). As the play progresses, Mary s worsening mental state is reflected by her worsening appearance, climaxing near the end of the work, when she ends the night, eyes glassy, wedding gown half worn, high on morphine regressing back to her happiest day, her wedding day. In her state she has completely disassociated herself from her surroundings, so much so that she forgets to ask her son, returning from the doctor what the diagnosis was. Her addiction causes her state to worsen throughout the play, damaging the relationships of those around her, culminating in a complete disconnection from reality. • 5. Propaganda On The Latest War Essay Whether it be the drawing on a piece of paper promoting propaganda on the latest war, a McDonald s commercial on TV, or the 15 second wait before a Youtube video, advertising is everywhere. And advertisement does not only accompany the idea of pulling in potential buyers like most people think, but the motive of advertising can also extend to many more serious topics, such as politics. In a political debate, the promotion of advertisement is crucial in gathering a crowd that will lead a presidential candidate for the chance to become the leader of the United States. But how does one make an ad so appealing that it is able to convert someone s thoughts to the ones the advertiser wants them to think? While there are many ads that fail in illustrating the perfect picture, there is a vast number of them that are successful. Throughout the 2016 Donald J. Trump for President ad, In Donald Trumps America, the contrast of visualizations, appealing sound choices, and the use of language are effectively portrayed to develop a strong argument that in the 2016 election of Donald Trump versus Hillary Clinton, Clinton is unsuitable for presidency. In almost every political advertisement, using contrast of visualizations between politicians is crucial in trying to persuade more citizens in the United States for their vote. Critical Learning Needs and Objective Flamingo has been diagnosed as having a speech and language disability, and his parents refused to have him labeled as autistic, even though he has difficulty with processing and focusing. This process had Flamingo rereading the text and putting it into his own words. By doing this, Flamingo had a better understanding of what he was reading. At first, it did seem that Flamingo had a hard time determining what details were important and what details were just extra. However, after talking to him and walking through different examples, Flamingo did start understanding the difference. Overall, this project was effective because Flamingos reading comprehension improved. Next time, before giving Flamingo or another student this intervention, I would first have a mini lesson on how to determine important details. This could be done by teaching the students how to actively read their text by taking notes in the margins or on post it notes. By doing this, hopefully the student will not feel overwhelmed by completing this task. In the future, it will be important for Flamingo s teacher to continue this intervention but to introduce new graphic organizers as well. Introducing different graphic organizers will be important because they all have different purposes in regards to reading and writing. Military facilities and bases of the Soviet are closer to the Middle East; this implies that Soviet control of this region is of strategic importance as it shields the Middle East from the West. The geostrategic importance of Middle East is also derived from its psychological and political significance, Pollack (2011). It is a symbolic area serving as the center of the shrines of the three world s greatest religions, Islam, Judaism, and Christianity. The influence of Islam extends from this region to Morocco and profound inside Africa. Therefore, Middle East has changed foreign policies of many world states. Please research one of the below campaign host cities and use examples of Communication Management for securing the Olympic Committee voter bid. For the Summer Olympic games in 2024 I choose Los Angeles as the host city because it hosted the 1932 games. Another reason I picked Los Angeles was because they are the most diverse city in America but they are also the Western capital of the US, The Northern Capital of Latin America, and Eastern capital of the Pacific Rim. With that there are three main examples of communication management to help LA secure its vote in the Olympic bid. 1)Communication Process Los Angeles released a video calling it LA24 and it shows why LA should be chosen to hold the 2024 Olympics by having facts about LA come up throughout the video while watching someone run or swim or bike. 2)Sport Organizational Image LA has hosted the Olympic games in 1932 so they aren t new to this huge sporting event. The target audience in the LA24 is focused on all ages and races. I think they wanted to show that LA welcomes everyone of every race, language, ect. 3)Sport Promotion Below are some of the sport promotional mix Advertising LA24 is their main advertisement as of yet Sponsorship 161 million to bring Olympics to LA Public Relations Media, TV, News, ect 2. David Kolb s experiential learning model (1984) one of the most commonly used models of learning styles defines four stages in the learning cycle: concrete experience, observation and reflection, the formation of abstract concepts and testing in new situations. Experiential learning increases our reserve of reliable experiences that can help us adapt to any challenging situation we come across. When attempting to learn through experience, we first have to have a concrete experience of a scale such that it is brief enough to be analyzed in detail, contains enough detail to draw learning from and has meaning for the group analyzing it. In an OMD, concrete experience is provided through training exercises, outdoor adventure activities and team building games. Processing experiential learning activities through group discussions and debriefing sessions help learn from even seemingly mundane events. Dainty and Lucas (1992) suggest that ...the outdoors provides one of the most powerful mediums for the development of self and other awareness . The rationale offered is that; An individual s behavior is often clearly visible during outdoor development programmes. It is impossible to hide behind organizational and educational norms in an environment where these no longer exist . Similar arguments are propounded by Long and Galagan (1984, 1987). Thus, the principle is that the outdoors provide activities and/or environments devoid of traditional ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Compare And Contrast Jamestown And Massachusetts Bay Colony On paper, both Jamestown and Massachusetts Bay Colony were founded by charter companies in hopes of finding silver and gold in North America. However, the real reasons each colony was founded differed. Jamestown was founded by the Virginia Company of London, while the Massachusetts Bay Colony was founded by the MassachusettsBay Company. Both colonies ran into similar difficulties after establishment. In the end, both were able to find a way to prosper. The charters for both colonies stated they wanted to find silver and gold. In reality, the settlers did want to find riches, but also had other motives. Jamestown was the first permanent English settlement in North America and was founded in 1607. England wanted a settlement in the New World. Jamestown settlers went in search of gold and silver deposits as well as river route to Pacific Ocean. The hope was the river route would allow for easier trade with Asia. The Jamestown settlers included people not accustomed to hard ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Puritans created the Massachusetts Bay Company and convinced the king to give them a charter. Even though the king thought the reason for settlement was finding silver and gold, the real reason was religious freedom. The Puritans wanted to be able to practice religion as they saw fit. The initial failures faced by both settlements were very similar. Early problems included hunger, illness, harsh winters, and attacks by local Indian tribes. • 12. The Letter Apology Of The Stolen Generations By Kevin Rudd The 2008 apology to the Stolen Generations by Kevin Rudd is historically significant for a number of reasons (Creative Spirits, 2014). Some felt it provided closure to a painful and traumatic part of Indigenous history while others fail to see how the apology has in the years after proven to change the circumstances of Indigenous peoples. Impacts in areas such as health, education, economic opportunity and involvement in child protection and/or the criminal justice system are all areas which should have been impacted by the Apology (Creative Spitis, 2014). However; as this essay will explore very little impact has been made in any of these areas in actual fact in some ways the gap has been made wider or perpetuated by acts of government. The Apology was a significant historical event but it is important to explain why it happened before examining the affects it has had on the Indigenous community and wider Australia (Creative Spirits, 2014). The Apology was more then just simply an apology, it acted as a statement of acknowledgement by the Australian Government that previous governments had committed wrongdoings by removing thousands of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their homes and families to be placed with White families and missions (religious camps which taught children white values essentially removing them from all their cultural roots) (Creative Spirits, 2014). This transfer can be as simple as the File Transfer Protocol(FTP), which transfer a file directly to a visitor s personal computer through a server hosted website (Pouwelse, Garbacki, Epema, Sip, 2005). File sharing create many ethical issues, but these ethical issues can be different if we are looking at it morally, ethically or legally. Moral is an individual s belief about right or wrong. Not everyone will have the same moral beliefs because they have different background or culture. For examples, we can see many people streaming many document online and or sharing this document and these people do not consider this issue a problem. If we look at it in an author stand point we might consider this issue a problem since it influences our benefit. The first known use of the word art was during the 13th century, making it quite a recent word, and it comes from the latin word ars meaning skill or craft. Through this, one might see that art is something that is created, such as a painting or sculpture. Be that as it may, art has evolved to fit many definitions, and definitions are simply the opinions, widespread as they are, of those that wrote the dictionaries that many follow to this day. It is my belief that art is more than a creation made by one, but an experience, or an emotion felt when seeing or hearing the creation. To begin, many people respond differently to different types of art. This is because artists allow for the viewer to judge what they see for themselves rather than force one idea onto the masses. The Scream by Edvard Munch to many people can represent the anguish and complexity of life and all of the choices that accompany it. Nine African American youths were accused of raping two young Caucasian women on a train to Alabama, they were given little to no time to defend themselves, and this case shares many things in common with Tom Robinson s case in To Kill a Mockingbird. The problem is that Bob Ewell testified seeing his daughter being raped from a window three feet from the ground (Lee 233). It was then, when Tom Robinson tried to explain his side of the story, that he was denied Due Process. It was a white man s word against a black man s word. Agricola and Germania Essay Kali Ryan Agricola and Germania Dr.Newsome October 2, 2012 Agricola and Germania The Agricola and Germani is a novel that serves two purposes: The Agricola is a eulogy praising Tacitus s father in law, and commander of Britian, Agricola. The Germania is an ethnography on German people. Both stories are told through the eyes of Tacitusas he indirectly criticizes Roman politics and society. His reason for snaking in these criticisms in such a crafty manner had been due to his friendship with high ranking Roman officials whom he did not want to upset. His criticisms were derived from his experiences with Agricola, speeches given by Calgucus, and his ability to compare and contrast cultural differences of Rome and Germania, targeting ... Romans were overruling nations that were unnecessary for them to. Moving forward to Germania, which contained much more social criticism than Agricola did by comparing the cultural difference of Germania and Rome. Tacitus described Germania as an empire that revolves strictly around their freedom. The kings of Germania did not hold absolute control over the German citizens. But even the power of the kings is not absolute or arbitrary. As for the leaders, it is their example rather than their authority that wins them special admiration (Tacitus, 38). In contrast, the citizens of Rome strongly believed that they attained their own freedom, however they were wrong in the fact that it was the Emperor who held all power in the Roman empire. In addition, Germans treated slaves with much more respect than Romans did. In Rome, the upper class were able to purchase numerous slaves to work in their house, and on their land. Tales were passed down from generation to generation, and in the case of fairy tales, these stories were not at first geared towards any age group, but instead for anyone, for entertainment purposes. Growing up, one of my favorite tales was Beauty and the Beast. If you ask children if they know this story, I would guarantee almost one hundred percent of them would. Beaumont does not mention these characters and we find Beauty not falling in love and liking him as quickly as in Disney. Both stories invoke a child s imagination, either with the addition of these live castle objects or merely the presence of something magical which the child can then come up with their own images. By doing this, the child fits unconscious content into conscious fantasies, which then enable him to deal with that content. It is here that fairy tales have unequaled value, because they offer new dimensions to the child s imagination which would be impossible for him to discover as truly on his own. Even more important, the form and structure of fairy tales suggest images to the child by which he can structure his daydreams and with them give better direction to his life (Bettleheim 7). In another area, the differences in characters add to some differences in the plot. With the Disney version, which people mostly relate to, the Prince is turned into the Beast by an enchantress when he shows his selfishness. It is said that if the Prince could learn to love and be loved in return before the last enchanted rose petal fell, then the castle s spell would be gone (Disney 2). In 1787, the Second Continental Congress called for a federal convention. This meeting in Philadelphia came to create the U.S Constitution. Women as Instigators of Tragedy in the Works of Shakespeare It is the very error of the moon; She comes more nearer earth than she was wont, And makes men mad. (Othello 5.2.112 14) The moon is often seen in literature as an allegory for love, virtue, and chastity. In Shakespeare s comedies, especially, the moon is personified as Diana, the Roman goddess of chastity. In these comedies, the foolish antics of lovers (literally, lunatics ) usually occur under the auspices of the chaste goddess, the lovers behaving like hounds about her feet that snap at each other in competition for her bounty. (3.3.190) The moon/Desdemona is seen as at once chaste and inclined to change. Later, Othello accuses Desdemona of infidelity despite her protesting innocence. Again, he compares her infidelity with the moon: What committed!/ Heaven stops the nose at it and the moon winks . . . (4.2.74). The moon, once chaste, is now flirting. Similarly, Othello believes that Desdemona, once chaste, is cuckolding him. These two examples show the multiple allegories of the moon that, similarly, exist in women. The moon also symbolizes the changeability of Fortune. What does the Fortune have to do with the moon? Shakespeare considered both of them to be much the same. Both have a cyclical nature (hence the term, Wheel of Fortune ): the moon waxes and wanes just like Fortune waxes and wanes.
