New York City Police Department Analysis
The New York City Police Department has conducted an extreme amount of stops, amounting to
half a million because of suspected criminal involvement. The NYPD noticed a large amount of
stops and decided to turn to RAND, an organization for research and development issues, to
determine issues with their stops. RAND researchers conducted three types of analysis including
external benchmarking, internal benchmarking, and how the outcome of stops differed from other
stops. The first to be researched, external benchmarking was based on the criminals raceand the race
of who officers particularly stopped. This was to see the different races that the police encountered
with, yet there was no correlation the rates of criminals races. The second research... Show more

The source is limited to the RAND researchers findings in 2006, published in 2007, limiting me
to the facts from 10 years ago. Although, it is still timely because stop and frisk ended only 6
years later. The sources strengths are that it is factual information. The information tells the truth
and gives different point of views on why officers stop certain citizens. The source uses
information from the NYPD, Supreme Court cases, and the United States Census Bureau. I
would be able to use all of this sources sources within my paper because they are all related to
one another. The NYPD provides charts of information to show which races are stopped and what
happens during the stops. To conclude with my questions, I would like to know if RAND
researchers furthered their research until 2013 when stop and frisk finalized? I also am curious as
to the background of the researchers, what their qualifications are to make them experts for this
research. Overall, I enjoyed this source very much because of the unbiased, truthful facts the
researchers were able to

Essay about The Potential Effects of Discrimination
Task 3 P3 The potential effects of discrimination
There are lots of potential effects related to discrimination. It includes things like disempowerment,
low self esteem and self identity and also marginalisation. I am now going to explain these effects
and connect them with a case study.
Disempowerment is when a person or group of people may be made to feel less powerful or
confident. Some people may try to fight against the discrimination causing an argument but many
people do not and they lose the will to fight against it. As a result of this type of discrimination,
they may then become depressed and feel devalued as well as disempowered. This could lead to
health issues and may lead to them taking tablets which would make them more ... Show more

This means they do not trust health and social care workers and organisations to be looking after
and supporting them.
All types of discrimination can also lead to negative behaviour and can partly cause aggression or
crime; even living in poverty and experiencing discrimination can affect an individual s behaviour
as well. Due to the negligence they may take out their frustration on the care providers or others in
the society which would make them in the wrong and after being investigated this may or may not
change because of the client s self esteem or pressure levels. As well as taking it out on the care
providers, they are also able to take it out on health and social care professionals.

Case Study
A retired teacher, Betty (65 years old), was diagnosed with Dementia. She lived at home with her
husband Arthur (70 years old) who had been caring for her for several years. When she was
diagnosed, No information was given to the couple. They had no relatives that they could rely on
around them for support.
Betty had a fall a few weeks after her diagnoses. It took a fall and an admission to hospital for the
health and social care team to realise they were struggling. Finally, workers involved Betty and
Arthur fully in giving information about Betty s condition and possible sources of help e.g. meals
on wheels, luncheon club, day care etc. This enabled Betty to be fully included in as plan of care
which enabled her to

Election Day, President Of The United States
During election day, millions of Americans are going to cast their vote for who they want to be
the next president of the United States. Except is a lot more complicated than it seems. The
electoral college is the collection of 538 delegates that have the power to determine who the next
president will be; the number of total representatives in the House and Senate. These 538 votes
aren t given to the citizen directly, but they are instead divided among the 50 states in America.
Currently, people are suggesting who their state should pick for president. Simply put, if a state
has a majority of votes for one candidate, (however small the majority is) that candidate gets all
the electoral votes from said state; winner takes all. So, a candidate must win over half of the voting
population in enough states to get the majority of electoral votes to win the election. But that s not
all, these said electors aren t nailed down to vote for who their state constituents want at all;
millions of votes can be thrown in the trash and forgotten forever.
Many believe the Electoral College s votes protect the states that have small populations from the
large populations states and in turn candidates will have to give more attention to small states. If
this was true, it is being executed horrifically. Candidates are visiting, advertising, and
campaigning more and more in swing states. In other words, the electoral college doesn t make
candidates care about small states, or even big states.

Challenging Behaviour Strategies
On casual days, I have found that being able to manage challenging behaviour is fundamental in
the operating of the classroom. AITSL states that teacher need to Demonstrate knowledge of
practical approaches to manage challenging behaviour. (AITSL) It is crucial to a smooth day to
ensure that there are sound strategies in place to ensure the behavior of students is managed. The
Teacher verse Student approach is wonderful whole class approach to keeping the expectations
met. The students are required to work as a group to ensure that everyone is following the rules and
expectations that are set. Through using this strategy I ensured that I positively phrased the whole
class and clearly identified the behaviour they displayed. When the behavior

Biological Foundations Of Personality
Biological Foundations of Personality Aside from the common differences that can be seen from a
distance without actually communicating or interacting with someone, such as the color of their
skin, there are many other attributes that sets people apart. There are distinct differences in the way
people think, feel, and behave; commonly referred to as personality. Various factors determine the
persona of individuals. Some of these factors include the neural systems and distinctive genes. This
paper looks at how genetic factors of people and their neural systems contribute to the personality of
humans. The study of the relationship between behavior and genes by different psychologists shed
light on the links that exist between personality... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The areas and pathways within one s brain determines their neural system. It is believed that the
personality of an individual can be traced back to the structures of the brain and neural
mechanisms. Some of these include, serotonin and dopamine pathways (Boundless, 2016).
Biological perspectives are used by researchers to determine how hormones, neurotransmitters, and
the different parts of the brain team up or interact to bring out the personality of an individual.
One of the best case studies to affirm this theory is that of Phineas Gage. In 1858, Gage, a blasting
foreman, was working on the railroad when one railroad spike, caused by a faulty blast, blew
through his head (Boundless, 2016). Though Gage survived the accident, there were major

Twelfth Night Madness Essay
In a Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare there are many themes portrayed but the most
prevalent was the topic of madness. The play Twelfth Night shows us that madness is merely a
perception. This will be proved by three main proofs as seen in the play. These proofs are;
Sebastian s view of Olivia and himself, the household s view of Malvolio, and Orsino s descent
into madness . Various paraphernalia from the play such as quotes and examples from the play will
be used to demonstrate the perceived changes of madness towards these characters.
To begin, Sebastian s constantly fluent view of Olivia will be explored. When Sebastian first
meets Olivia, he is conflicted with emotions. He believes that Olivia is very beautiful and he will

At the beginning Orsino has an infatuation with Olivia before even meeting her because tales are
told about her beauty. When Olivia and Orsino meet for the first time he says, If music be the food
of love, play on. Give me excess of it, that, surfeiting, The appetite may sicken and so die (1.1. 1
3). This shows that the Duke s passion has already grown past healthy levels. This can be seen
by him insinuating that his desire needs to be sated which isn t healthy for either recipient.
Orsino continues to fervently pursue Olivia throughout Twelfth Night by giving Cesario
sickening notes begging Olivia to accept his proposal and to return his love. However the Duke
may not be infatuated with Olivia especially, he could be an eager, over passionate lover. This is
proved when near the end of the play when Viola s true identity is revealed. Olivia reveals her
affections for Sebastian and the fact that they already married. Orsino is momentarily in
disbelief but then Viola declares her love for him and he realizes all of her advice for Olivia was
meant for him. This causes him to declare her his fancy queen and that he wishes to see her in a

actions and sudden shift in attraction proves that the Duke is perhaps a lonely bachelor who

Essay about Caravaggio s First Inspiration of St. Matthew
Michelangelo Caravaggio, the great Baroque painter of the seventeenth century, was always an
artist under scrutiny. His style, the subject matter of his paintings, and how he chose to depict his
subjects, was often criticized and rejected by his patrons. In a journal article written by Troy
Thomas, entitled Expressive Aspects of Caravaggio s First Inspiration of Saint Matthew , these
rejected paintings are discussed. The article focuses on the themes of these rejected works, but
namely Inspiration of St. Matthew, and uses these themes to prove the work s validity. This
painting is compared and contrasted to other similar, accepted works of the time as well, to help
show that the work was not done in bad taste. Commissioned by... Show more content on

Thomas mentions these aspects of the painting, but attributes them not to indecorousness, but to
being an integral part of the message of the work. Thomas states that there are three important
themes in the Inspiration of Saint Matthew: surprise, ignorance, and humility. These ideas were
not reasons to reject the painting, but themes that gave the work a certain effect that was
necessary to contemplate in order to understand. First, to address the issue of the offensive
realism of Caravaggio, one must understand the artist. Caravaggio always said that he could not
paint what he had not seen. So, the use of models was extremely important to him. Possibly, the
model that he had used was indeed, old and wrinkled. This representation of the aged Saint
Matthew was not intended to be distasteful, but was probably due to the type of model that he
had chosen to pose for the painting. Other artists, when depicting angelic figures, use diaphanous,
ethereal angels or infant like putti figures. Caravaggio, however, portrayed the angel as a
pubescent boy, who looked more human than heavenly. This was also a reason to reject the work,
since the angel had a certain erotic quality, which was deemed inappropriate for a religious
painting. The substantiality of the body of the angel is also due to Caravaggio s style of

Privacy Is The Primary Guideline For The Privacy
Privacy in America is developing into a vague set of rules. Each person has a right to privacy, but
the question remains: How much information should be granted to the public ? The answer to this
question varies from person to person. The industries, social networking, protection agency, and
everyday situations create their own ideology of what must remain private.
The Evolution of Privacy To begin, the constitution is the primary guideline for the privacy rights
in America. This may begin to address the problem but it does not set its limitations. Opinions
differ in each individual. During the prohibition period Olmstead was prosecuted for trying to

Examples of Privacy Interference Overwhelmingly, there is so many cases of privacy infringement
that it is rather concerning. HeLa is one of the most provincial and revolutionary cell strain in the
medical field. HeLa cells originated from Henrietta Lacks. Henrietta Lacks was a Black woman in
times of segregation. Her only option for a hospital was Johns Hopkins. She needed to have
them remove a tumor in her cervix. The doctor in charge of pathology at the time was Dr.
George Otto Gey. He asked for tissue samples whenever available. The problem with cells is that
they die off rather quick unless they are in the body still. Henrietta Lack s cells viability was
stronger than any other. The cells would keep reproducing outside the body. Even as Henrietta
Lacks has moved on, her cells kept reproducing. The only mistake that came from this discovery
was that the doctors never even tried to consult with Henrietta on the whereabouts of her tissues.
They had taken it without her knowledge and run tests without giving her information that they
learned from them. It was not until the doctors wanted to run tests on the children that the family
even knew. (Skloot 13) This might be because the family was known to be a vulnerable type. They
did not know much what was going on, so they had just assumed the doctor was doing what was
best for the patient. Instead the doctors had more concern for the industry and

Who Is The Protagonist In The Cellar
The kidnapping The book I am reading is called The Cellar, written by Natasha Preston. The
main character in this book is a 16 year old girl named Summer. Summer lives in a small town
with her mom, dad and brother, Henry. One evening Summer wanted to meet some friends at a
club to hang out and have fun. The club is only a two minute walk from her house through the
woods and she had done it many times. She left the house in a rush, quickly saying goodbye to
her parents and boyfriend, Lewis. Never once thinking about the dangers of walking outside
alone at night. When Summer got to the club her best friend Kerri found her and asked if she d

Summer said she didn t see her, so they thought they should probably go look for her. After
calling Rachel s name and getting no response, Kerri and Summer decided to split up and look
for her separately. Just about the time Kerri was out of Summers sight a guy hiding behind a tree

The Music Of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was an Austrian composer who mastered the range of contemporary
modern instrumental and vocal forms including the symphony, concerto, chamber music, and
especially in the opera.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born on January 27, 1756, in Salzburg, Austria. Mozart mom and
dad, stressed about the importance music to their children. Wolfgang received in depth musical
training that by the age of six he was a rising composer and a soon to be keyboard performer. In
1762 Mozart dad presented him as a performer at the imperial court in Vienna, Austria, and from
1763 to 1766 he lead both of his children on a continuous musical tour across.
Mozart was the most praised child prodigy of this time as a keyboard performer. He also made a
great impression as a composer. In London he won the admiration of musician Johann Christian
Bach and he was exposed from an early age to different variety of musical styles across Europe.
Although he had great musical ability, Mozart s lack of a normal childhood caused him much
suffering. During his youth, Mozart was constantly in the news and was extravagantly acclaimed
by all. He was well aware of his precious talent and developed an arrogant and overly confident
demeanor. He had little discipline and maturity outside the subject of music. Mozart frequently went
through periods of financial difficulty.
At age 4 Wolfgang himself began keyboard lessons playing without fault and with great sensitivity,
and by age 5 he was

High growth companies usually have smaller organisational structures so they can react to changes
in the business environment quicker than other companies. III.Profitability A positive effect of
companies generating operational profits is the ability for companies to expand and grow their
operations. Companies often reinvest a certain amount of profits earned from current operations
into new business opportunities or expanding current operations to increase business output.
Explain the main factors involved in the change process. There are a number of factors involved in
an organisations change process such as; 1.Selling the benefits of change Identifying potential
threats and develop scenarios presenting what could take place in the future. Examining
opportunities that should be, or could be exploited. 2.Communication Talk about the change vision,
if people have anxieties then address these openly and honestly. Tie in the vision to all areas of the
business from training to performance reviews 3.Planning the change Ensure that all research has

Apart from law and order there were many other problems in mining towns. The majority of the
population were males and built their own cabins, this meant they were probably not very good
or safe. Also they did there own cooking, which probably wasn t the best diet and probably got
food poisoning often. There was an epidemic of typhoid in fall and early winter but there were no
deaths, which show there were healthy and strong. The houses had no drains and most houses were
badly kept so the houses were most likely dirty.
The problems of law and order in early western towns can be studied using the sources these
show lots of lawlessness in towns and murdering. One source shows a bank robbery, this is proof
that the towns did not have any policing. The source shows also that a few vigilantes on the scene,
further proof that the towns were lawless. Vigilantes were present because of the lack of law that
there was in the towns. They felt it necessary that law had to be imposed on the town other wise it
could fall apart.
Another source shows a notice from vigilantes pinned to a man hung for murder. This is useful
because it shows the vigilantes taken the law into there own hands. It also states the reasons for
the vigilantes forming, it tells us that life and security is too sacred to not be protected so they will
resort to these means even if it means killing

When reading this article, one can find that Zinser uses emotional appeals to create a sense of

appeals to inform readers of the difference between humorus news and undeniable news. Zinser
utilizes his readers emotional appeal, pathos, to prove that fake news programs, such as The Daily

This was a time for growth in the United States, often referred to as the Industrial Age. This time
period was an exciting period because of the fact that there is another revolution going on in the
workplace. As technology started to change and bloom, everything around it started to transform
and more jobs were created. As a result, the Industrial Revolution affected the whole stability of a
nation, not only the economy. It affected the relationships between classes, and also the
relationships between countries and gave those individuals who migrated over to the United States
a chance at a prosperous life without slavery. With many Africans migrating to the United States
there were those who decided to go back to the Caribbean and continue their traditional cultural
ways. In the late eighteenth century, written reports discovered a cultural tradition of masking by
Africans in various parts of the Caribbean: Belize, Bermuda, Haiti, Jamaica, the Bahamas, St.

names like gumbe, jonkonu, or kambula, however today it is referred to as Carnival. Carnival is

Choose 2 scenes from the film and discuss what is important about them. I was very bothered by
the comments Anita Bryant made during a televised speech that was shown in the film. She was
an orange juice sales woman who was working to repeal laws that protect homosexual human
rights; specifically in employment and housing. She described homosexuality as tearing down
the foundation of the family unit and compared gays to prostitutes and thieves. She tried to
convince the public that the traditional family was being threatened and that practicing or
accepting homosexuality was blasphemy. Although the scenes of Harvey Milk recording his
voice were split up throughout the film, I felt it to be the most powerful. Not only does he
address the substantial probability of being assassinated, he does so calmly and courageously.
He stated that, a gay activist is the target for someone who is insecure . As he did throughout his
encounters with all kinds of people, he also stated that he often broke the tension when giving a
speech to mostly straight men by telling a joke. Milk accomplished a lot for the gay rights
movement, one that is still fighting today, and he did so with integrity, hard work, and sporadic
humor. 4. What did you like best/ and or least about the film? What I liked best about the film was

Page, Clare and Nutbrown (2013) suggest that skills, knowledge, understanding, and capabilities are
central to the quality of provision in early childcare settings. Research has established the
connection between staff qualifications and the quality of the early years provision, alongside the
differences in quality between maintained and private, voluntary and independent (PVI) settings
(Robert Holmes, 2012). It is understood that maintained nursery educationwas originally staffed by

It intended to employ an EYP within every children s centre by 2010, full day care settings by
2015 and have all settings move towards an NVQ level three as the minimum required
qualification (Jones, 2014). However, it is apparent that this incentive failed as institutions
offering EYPS courses are getting rid of them in favour of the QTS. In addition, the new and
revised EYFS published in the 2017 states in each room there need only be one member of staff
with a level three qualification whilst half of all other staff hold a level two (DfE, 2017). The
statutory framework s requirements for the qualifications of staff are identical to that of 2008
(DfE, 2008), allowing half of remaining staff to be unqualified and level three to be an acceptable
level for leadership; suggesting no progress has been made in the PVI sector for nine years.
Eisenstadt, Sylva, Mathers and Taggart (2013) suggest that EYPS is not comparable to the QTS
and therefore practitioners with the status will not be eligible for teacher pay and conditions (p. 2).
As a practitioner this is demoralising and demotivating as it is suggested that qualified teachers

5.1). As the dose of LIPC increased the concentration of C. perfringens decreased linearly (P =
0.03). The remaining three opportunistic bacteriastrains, C. difficile, E. coli general, and E. coli K
12, were not significant (P ≥ 0.20) across treatments. Numerically, 25 had the lowest
concentration of E. coli general, and 0 had the lowest concentration of C. difficile. Although
increasing the dose of LIPC decreased C. perfringens the observation that increasing the dose also
increases SBEC would suggest that there may be no additional benefit of dosing LIPC above the
recommended rate. However, this would also suggest that the nutraceutical reaches the cecum
without being compromised in the stomach during the digestionprocess.
Parameters of inflammation, including ESR (P = 0.87) and range of motion (P ≥ 0.24) were not
significant among treatments (Table 5.2). Additionally, all blood work was within normal ranges
(data not shown), suggesting that increasing the dose of LIPC has no negative effect. Interestingly,
a numerical basis suggested that, 35 had the least amount of inflammation detected on the ESR

Salem Witchcraft Trials vs. the Crucible Essay
Salem Witch Craft In 1962 the penalty of witchcraft was to be hung or smashed. There was a big
outburst of witchcraft and spells that were going around among the people of Massachusetts in
1962. Some of the women of Salem began the witchcraft many people started to catch on and
fallow them. A lot of these people were hung do to what the bible said about the wrongs of
witchcraft. When these women of Salem Massachusetts started to do witchcraft and pass it on to
other people they were put on trial for their actions, which at the time was, illegal. It had caught on
all over England and was spreading fast. Arthur Miller made a play called the Crucible that was

Rev. Paris did not graduate from Harvard, but he did attend before he dropped out. Rebecca
Nurse was hanged on July 19, John Proctor on August 19, and Martha Corey on September 22

warrants, as he said he had signed 17 in the play. That was not for the clergy to do. William
Stoughton signs both existing death warrants. The elderly George Jacobs was not accused of
sending his spirit in through the window to lie on the Putnam s daughter. The smashing of a
man with rocks while he was on trial was only done to try to get him to confess before it killed
him. Giles Corey was not executed for refusing to name a witness, as in the movie. The play is
accurate: he was accused of witchcraft, and refused to enter a plea, which held up the
proceedings, since the law of the time required that the accused enter a plea. He was pressed to
death with stones, but the method was used to try to force him to enter a plea so that his trial
could proceed. Corey probably realized that if he was tried at all, he would be executed. (Burns

Tomato Production Of The Tomato Plant
BIG QUESTION where do tomatoes come from and how can we maximise yield?
Alex Cottam
Tomatoes are edible fruits of Solanum lycopersicum , More commonly known as the tomato plant.
The plant originated in central America. Tomatoes are used in many dishes across the globe but
were first used in mexico. Tomatoes are grown in temperate climates around the world however
more hardy strains have been produced meaning some can survive at lower temperatures however
to maximise yield lower temperatures are not ideal. In cooler areas of the globe they can be grown
in greenhouses. They grow ,depending on the strain, anywhere from one metre tall to 3 metres tall
although bush variates have the maximum yield. Being so tall the plant often cannot support itself
as they have weak stems therefore support is required ie canes, stakes etc.
The tomato plant is a perennial (grows back each year) in its native climate and grown as an
annual (only survives one year then dies from lower temperatures) in temperate climates. In the
greenhouse the plant needs to be kept above 16 degrees celsius and below 32 degrees , otherwise
the enzymes will become denatured. ideally between 22 26 degrees as this will best imitate its
native climate. Temperature is one of the limiting factors of plant growth so is one of the key
factors to achieve a high yield. In order to keep it at these temperatures a greenhouse should be
used or they should be planted in their native climate however a greenhouse is more ideal

Mcdonald s Commercial
It s becoming more common for the top athletes being advertised in commercials such as
McDonald s, Arby s and even Coke. These athletes are competing at the highest level; they are
strong, healthy and very driven at whatever they do so that they are successful. They are what
little girls and boys dream of being when they are older. In a commercial put on by McDonald sit
continues the trend of top tier athletes promoting their fast food. This commercial sends a harmful
message to viewers, and McDonald s should stop airing this immediately.
This commercial begins smoothly enough. LeBron James, this NBA star, is at this undisclosed
club, and wants to get in. He is then approached from a McDonald s worker asking him for the
secret pass code. LeBron then tells her special sauce . He is let in and the commercial begins to
say that in this club, only the best of the best gather there. It shows LeBron James being the
newest member of the club as it simultaneously shows Johnny Manziel, Alex Morgan and Ally
Raisman all there already. The commercial voiceover then goes what does one serve the best
basketball player in the world? and then it shows a vivid picture of the new Bacon Clubhouse
Sandwich all while describing what s inside this new sandwich by McDonald s. It emphasizes on

My Speech On The Emergency Medicine Class
In the summer of 2014, I thought I had life completely planned out. I was enrolled at Rowan
Cabarrus Community College while still attending Mount Pleasant High School. I had just
started taking my Emergency Medicine class and had already completed two thirds of my fire
class. I volunteered at Northeast Cabarrus Fire Department and was so close to becoming an
interior firefighter, I could taste it. I never slowed down enough to think about God s plan for me.
I seemed to only care about creating my own plan and following through with it. My intentions
were to graduate high school and be completely done with my education. Graduating meant I was
free to spend my time chasing my dreams, but that changed on my way to my Emergency Medicine

I was overcome with an intense pain shooting from my neck to the area between my shoulders.
My breathing slowed and shortly was accompanied by my low moans as I tried to squeeze little
bits of air into my lungs. I could feel myself being consumed by the feeling of fire inside my
chest. I passed out for what felt like a long night s sleep, to only be awakened by the sound of the
ambulance and the frosty fingers holding my C spine. My precisely drawn out plan was no
longer in my control; I had relinquished all rights to my plan when I agreed to join the game leap
frog. That fun game of leap frog left me with broken dreams and in excruciating pain.
At some point on that rainy day, I found myself consumed in complete and utter denial. It must
have been after the doctors notified my parents that I had broken four thoracic vertebra; my T 1
though T 4. The doctors told me my life would never be the same because my back problems
would limit my future plans. They informed me the pain I felt would go down some, but never
completely subside. A couple doctors wanted to place me on a pain medicine regimen for the
rest of my life. I remember the icy puddles from my tears that accumulated on my pillow, the
smell of the doctor s cologne that slowly suffocated my already struggling breaths, and the sound
of my mother weeping at my bedside. I took the diagnosis like a bullet; it pierced my heart and

The Influence Of Arts And Education In Early Medieval America
Before its unification in 1870, the country now known as Italy was comprised of cities. These
cities were controlled and protected by the Holy Roman Empire until they won the right to govern
themselves in the 12th century. The foreign emperor s lack of attention allowed the cities to slowly
transform into city states and begin to build their own culture. The 1200 s became a time of many
changes for Italy. The promotion of the arts and education flourished throughout the city states.
Medieval universities were founded across Europein the 12th century. Only men were allowed to
attend, and were often members of religious orders working as clerics. These universities offered
two curriculums, trivium and quadrivium, to their small student population. Trivium, the most
popular, consisted of grammar, rhetoric, and logic. Quadrivium was composed of music, astronomy,
geometry, and mathematics. Some students went on to study medicine, law, or theology after
completing these curriculums.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

movement was named preceptive grammar by James J. Murphy in 1971. Ars poetria, a subdivision

is If need be, a thousand shall sternly immolate themselves for one. (7, Walt). This phrase is
important to the structure of the poem because the main point of the poem is about how a voice

The Proximate Causes Of Violence In The Yanomamo Culture
In the Yanomamo culture, warfare is practiced as a way to demonstrate the strength of a village,
or individual. Overall, warfare is practiced in the Yanomamo culture because of a combination of
factors. One of the proximate, or indirect, causes of the violence include seeking revenge for
villagers who have been killed. Another proximate cause of violence that it is used to steal
women from other villages in order to increase the number of available wives. Also, villages
must appear intimidating and tough so that other villages do not raid them. These are a few of
the proximate causes of violence. Competition over scarce resources is one ultimate, or root,
cause of violence. Men who are violent may gain greater social status, which encourages violence
overall. Another ultimate cause of the violence is the lack of strong political leadership within the
villages. These villages do not have leaders to stop violence or structure violence in productive
ways. Without such leaders, villagers are more likely to rely on violence in impulsive ways.
Hostility between villages often results in violence, as there are no leaders to resolve the hostility.
In addition, another ultimate cause of violence is the geographical environment of the Yanomamo.
Since the Yanomamo territory is restricted, and often invaded by outsiders, available land becomes
more scarce. This causes competition for land to increase, which increases violence. Since people of
the Yanomamo cannot move into areas

The Death Of The Street
It was nine o clock although it could have been midnight. The main street was deserted except
for a man pulling his bull terrier away from the base of a lamp post. An ambulance siren wailed
in the distance. Occasionally, a car hissed past spitting up spray. Persistent winter rain permeated
my fur coat, saturated my hair and drooled down my face into my scarf. I was cold wet and
eager to get indoors. Long dark and menacing. Though dark, the alley lured me in with the
promise of a speedy arrival home. Momentarily I hesitated at its entrance. A hundred yards away
stood a single street lamp that offered a dim amber light at the alleyway s turning. The pole of the
street lighthad been defaced with rude drawings of body parts and derogatory words. My gut
feeling told me to leave this unfamiliar alley and quickly. but down the alley, past the turning and
another 20 yards and I would be home. 120 yards and 3 minutes rather than 300 yards and 10
minutes. Although I was hesitant I took the first step into the alley as warmth and dry clothes
beckoned. I walked on in fear.
As I proceeded into the alley the weeping trees poked at my neck and snagged at my hair. Sounds
of the unknown rustled through the overgrown bushes that had become infested with sweet
wrappers and empty beer cans. The wind blew hard carrying an old crisp packet from one
overgrown bush to the next. Embedded in the bushes was a long piece of white and blue tape that

The Use of Drugs as a Recreation Essay

Such unavoidable dangers are what keep everyone alert on a daily basis even though accidents

reason for so many cautionary measures such as seatbelts in cars, anti venom in medicine, fire

Amyl Nitrite has a chemical formula of C5H11ONO and because it is a nitrite and is non reactive
it belongs to the Alkyl groups of elements. Amyl Nitrite is used as a vasodilator in the medical

In a person with normal blood pressure the use of Amyl Nitrite expands already normal functioning

Dead Man Laughing By Zadie Smith

significant aspect of her life, through the use of comedy. Additionally, Smith successfully conveyed
to the reader the great impact that comedy has had on her, and why she determined to use humor as
a way to relate to her father. From the very beginning, Smith introduces her father s favorite hobby;
comedy. As it says, my father had few enthusiasms, but he loved comedy (1). She then goes on
explaining the uniqueness of comedy, how it gave her father freedom and that their is no
division of social status when it comes to comedy; comedy was and will always be true freedom.
She informs the reader of several British comedians and comedy history, mentioning how they all
had different styles. For example, one comedian would continuously make fun of himself, other
would make fun of their culture, and social status. On the other hand, she also mentions that
people do not have to be funny to go on stage. In the world of comedy, if you are absolutely
determined to stand on a stage for five minutes with a mike in your hand, someone in London will
let you do it, if only once (7).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The decision to build again was based on my success in making money in the stock market and a

Lord Chesterfield s Letter To His Son
All a parent wants, is for their child to succeed in life; they want them to do things that were
once thought of as impossible. Lord Chesterfield, in the letter to his son, asserts that he does not
mean to dictate as a parent , but rather as a friend , in order to give his son exceptional advice
(Chesterfield). He uses various examples of parallelism, such as through the pronoun I, and he also
appeals to the audience, in this case his son, with pathos. At the beginning of almost every
sentence, he opens with I in phrases such as I employ so much of my time and I have no
womanish weakness (Chesterfield). He uses this anaphora to show that he himself values in
specific things and now he wants to share those beliefs with his son. The

Learning To Drive
Many young people learn to drive as soon as they re old enough. Having a car is a huge freedom
you can go wherever you like whenever you like. Not only that, but many jobs require that you
have a car or at least hold a driving license so that you can run errands or go to see clients.
Like any sort of learning, everyone is different. Some people are taught how to drive by their
parents or by a friend, in the family car. The advantage of this is that it s free, but a big
disadvantage is that you re not being taught by a trained professional. Driving instructor s cars also
have dual controls so that if the new driver does anything dangerous, the instructor can control the
car. This is very important if you ve never been behind the wheel of a car before, so new drivers
might feel that they want to have lessons first, and then only practice with their parents once they
re more confident. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many people find that two hour lessons are better, especially if they live a long way from the test
area. It s important to drive in traffic as you may encounter lots of traffic on your test, and being
able to handle this is critical.
A third option for learning to drive is to take an intensive course. These normally promise to
teach you to drive in as little as a month, so you drive every day as well as taking theory lessons.
At the end of this course you will take a driving test, and the idea is that you ve learned quickly
enough to pass. These courses can also save you money because you just pay for a set number of
lessons. Sometimes it can be difficult to tell if you re ready to take the test, but with an intensive
course you know exactly when your test will be.

Impact of Computers on Our Society
Impact of Computers On Society
2010
The concept of a computing device was there since the 19th century but the actual device was not
invented until the 1930s. The computers invented at that time served as a project to simplify
scientific calculations and they fulfilled that task quite perfectly. Later on these were used to store
data such as the process and calculations. At that time, people knew that this device was something
which will never die like every important invention does for eg. The abacus( though still used in

Internet is a short form of the technical term internetwork , the result of interconnecting computer
networks with special gateways (routers). The Internet is also often referred to as the Net.
Although the basic applications and guidelines that make the Internet possible had existed for
almost two decades, the network did not gain a public face until the 1990s. On 6 August 1991,
CERN, a pan European organization for particle research, publicized the new World Wide Web
project. The Web was invented by British scientist Tim Berners Lee in 1989. An early popular
web browser was ViolaWWW, patterned after HyperCard and built using the X Window System.
It was eventually replaced in popularity by the Mosaic web browser. In 1993, the National Center
for Supercomputing Applications at the University of Illinois released version 1.0 of Mosaic, and
by late 1994 there was growing public interest in the previously academic, technical Internet. By
1996 usage of the word Internet had become commonplace, and consequently, so had its use as a
synecdoche in reference to the World Wide Web.
Meanwhile, over the course of the decade, the Internet successfully accommodated the majority of
previously existing public computer networks (although some networks, such as FidoNet, have
remained separate). During the late 1990s, it was estimated that traffic on the public Internet grew
by 100 percent per year, while the mean annual growth in the number of Internet users was thought

Decision Making Models In Hal Rainey s Understanding And...
In the context of public organizations, there are a number of decision making models that can
applied to the actions of these organizations. In his book Understanding and Managing Public
Organizations, Hal Rainey outlines a number of different theories of organizational decision
making that explain why organizations do what they do. The three most prominent theories he
describes are rational decision making, incremental decision making, and mixed scanning. Each
of these will be discussed in depth for their merit and shortfalls. Rational decision making is the
first and simplest method of making decisions. It is the least complex model of decision making
and it has essentially four baseline factors that play into it. According to Rainey, rational decision
making takes place when the actor making decisions is aware of and understands the goal that he
or she is trying to complete. In addition, the actor must be able to determine the importance of the
goals being evaluated and then prioritize them accordingly. After this has been done the actor
looks at and evaluates all the different ways that a goal can be accomplished, and as a result the
actor chooses the action that accomplishes the target goal the most efficiently and effectively. Due
to the often times, complex and politically volatile nature of the public sector, rational decision
making models are best applied to less important decisions. For example, a rational decision making
model can be applied to day to day

Informative Essay About Themed Consumer Environment
Themed Consumer Environment Analysis I have not been to many themed environments in my
lifetime for many reasons including financial, time, and travel constraints as well as the fact that
my family hold the belief that we dont need to go anywhere grand to have a good time. The
emphasis has always been placed on simplicity and quality time spent with family and friends.
We used to go snow skiing many years ago so my recollection is hazy. We go camping every
summer which is almost the opposite of a consumer environment. However, a couple of years ago,
for my mother s birthday, we did manage to make a trip to Arlington, Texas to watch a Texas
Ranger baseballgame. This is a huge consumer environment which correlates well with
everything I have read and learned during this course and so it will be the focus of this analysis.
The 270 acre Globe Life Park in Arlington which opened in April of 1994, was a successor of the
Arlington Stadium which closed that same year. I vaguely remember going to the old one a
couple years before it closed. With the new park, the capacity increased by about 6,000 and many
more areas were made available for shops, restaurants, new technology, suites, and other means of
consumption. As George Ritzer details modern athletic facilities further in A Tour of the New
Means of Consumption, Although these stadiums often resemble earlier versions and even seek to

Mill On Liberty Analysis
In On Liberty, J.S. Mill surveys the discord amid the tyranny of the majority and the rights of the
minority. In a democracy, these are both esteemed core values. As an example, the issue of race
relations in the United States of America has long been a battle between legally sanctioned
discrimination by the majority and the will of those in the minority to fight for their liberty. In the
21st century, we are now witnessing constant controversies between these age old problems of
democratic society. From gay marriage, and the associated rights of the LGBTQ community, to
voter s rights and a renewed need for equality of liberty among people of different creeds, sexes,
and races, the foundation of the issues never really changes, it is still... Show more content on

Nevertheless, Mill also added some ideas in the text that are not only inappropriate but, in
retrospect, seem harmful. For example, the belief that it was acceptable to rule over a people
because they were thought savages is just antithetical to his mostly liberal thinking. Secondly, there
is an air of elitism present throughout the work that is not required. Of course, there will always be
those who are less gifted than others in certain cognitive respects. This does not mean that they
should have less of a say in how their society and individual lives are arranged. There is a delicate
line to walk on this issue (e.g. questions such as: what constitutes a rational human being? And:
who makes that decision?). These are subtle questions of distinction, and for the most part, Mill
appears to suggest that this is common knowledge or, that perhaps some lower level of human
beings exist that must be controlled by those more intellectually gifted. Although it is not explicitly
written in this context, the idea is still present throughout the

The Theme Of Friendship In The Film Guardians Of The Galaxy
Friendship is like a blossoming sprout in spring. At first it is dainty and fragile but as it cultivates
into an elegant flower, it grows more and more robust. Sometimes the biting winds of hate and
deceit can knock the blooming flower down but that is not the case in Guardians of the Galaxy
(2014). This intricate storyline follows Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) and the estranged band of aliens
later known as the Guardians of the Galaxy. When one watches this motion picture, it can be
substantiated that friendship can be unearthed in the most unlikely niches, with the most unlikely
inhabitants, and in the most unlikely manners. As the film commences, the audience is met with a
view of the severe panorama; later known as Morag. This dust filled lands are juxtaposed to the
mesmerizing skies above here you meet Peter Quill. As the audience... Show more content on

At first these aliens mostly detested each other. When they came into contact with the orb, they
were merely in it for the money. When Drax arrived, agreed to help with the orb as long as he
would be the one to kill Ronan. When it came time to face Ronan, the guardians had to make a
choice run or stay and fight to save Xandar. Heroically, Starlord (Peter Quill) chose to put himself
at risk in order to save his friends and Xandar. Luckily, the remaining members of the guardians
came to Peter s rescue and help channel the Infinity stone phenomenal power; thus defeating Ronan.
As the story falls to a close, the guardians reach their goal shield the galaxy from Ronan s corrupt
ways. Saving the galaxy did not only bring peace, it brought an unlikely group of the most diverse
aliens together. They also gained something that they never expected friendship. These unlikely
characters unearth the certainty that camaraderie can be formulated in the most unlikely perception

Malcolm Gladwell Outliers The Story Of Success Summary
In Outliers: The Story of Success by Malcolm Gladwell an interesting point is made, this point is
if you work hard and assert yourself, and use your mind and imagination, you can shape the world
to you desires (Gladwell 151).This is true in many of the stories told in the book Outliers: The Story
of Success by Malcolm Gladwellseveral famous people are talked about such as, The Beatles, Bill
Gates. But in this book several studies on education, parenting, and psychology are cited. We also
learn that there are many differences between what others may consider to be success, and what
Malcolm Gladwell considers success.
I would like to begin by discussing Bill Gates the founder of Microsoft. What opportunities
allowed him to build a company worth billions of dollars? How did he learn so much about how
computers? Did he have any advantages over other students at school? In the chapter The
10,000 Rule it is stated that The idea that excellence at preforming a complex task requires a
minimum level of practices surfaces again and in studies of expertise. In fact, researchers have
settled on what they believe is the magic number for true success: ten thousand hours (Gladwell
39 40). It takes this long because It seems that it takes the brain that long to assimilate all that it
needs to achieve true mastery (Gladwell 40). So where did Bill Gates get his ten thousand hours of
experience before building Microsoft. Well the answer is Lakeside, a private that catered

Lucy And The American Dream Analysis
A close study of the way Lucy by Jamaica Kincaid and the characters of Seven react to their
encounters with the new world. Both stories are new immigrant literature and they both bring
the past experiences or events to the present. In the book The American Dream by Jim Cullen he
questions if the past is essential to your future or does it matter at all. Lucy is a story that
describes a girl s experience in the new world, throughout the story she dealt with a great deal of
controversy when having to adjust to the new world. The objective of this part of the book is
Lucy compares everything to a troubling episode that happened back at her home. One of Lucy
s first days in the new world she was excited to see sun shining her immediate thought was warm
temperature which coming from a tropical zone she was used to the type of weather. A rude
awakening appeared when she felt the cold air but the sun was still shining, But I did not know
that the sun could shine and the air remain cold; no one had ever told me (Kincaid 5). Throughout
the story Lucy is unsatisfied with just about every encounter with the new world, the first quote
shows how differently Lucy sees the world. Lucy is brought to the United States to be a
babysitter to the children of Lewis and Mariah and go to school at night. The family of the house
was nice to Lucy, and she is surprised by this treatment saying that I should regard them as my
family and make myself at home (Kincaid 7). Another person

Historical Significance Of The Vietnam War
The Vietnam War is a blank page in the history of the U.S. foreign policy. As a matter of fact, there
have been many public and congressional debates about the American intervention in Vietnam and
the morality of the political decision that proved to be fatal for both countries. Undeniably, the
Vietnam War belongs in the period of the Turbulent Sixties which along with other tremendous
political events such as the Civil War, divided the American society for decades. Until today the
memory of the war still haunts the American conscience. Thus, the purpose of the essay is to
examine the significance of the VietnamWar as a collective memory in the American society.
Specifically, the main focus will be on how the remembrance of the Vietnam War, as well as the
U.S. policy has been constructed in the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From the late twentieth century on, cultural historians and psychologists have stressed the
importance of the memory in an attempt to provide insight to the traumatic past and the process of
reconciliation, both in the political as well as the cultural domain. Furthermore, memory is
considered of high importance when it comes to the formation of identity either for individuals,
groups or a nation as a whole. According to Marita Sturken s statements in her book Tangled
Memories: The Vietnam War, the AIDS Epidemic, and the Politics of Remembering, memory is
crucial to the understanding of a culture precisely because it indicates collective desires, needs, and
self definitions (2). Additionally, memory and history are distinct from cultural memory, which is a
field of contested meanings that interacts with American cultural elements in order to produce
concepts of the nation, particularly in events of trauma, where both the structures and fractures of a
culture are exposed (Sturken

Thus Spoke Zarathustra Essay
The prophet Zarathustra descended from the mountains after ten years of isolation. He has
descended to teach the masses about the overman, and the belief system that accompanies him.
Nietzsche, through Zarathustra, is offering a new value system to replace Christianity. This value
system can be referred to as Zarathustraism . A vital part to embracing this value system is the
deconstruction of Christianity. Man has redefined Christianity to better suit personal desire, and it
has begun to fail as a result. Zarathustraism will teach Man to live in the light of the Overman, free
of the negativity Christianity caused.
Zarathustra has learnt the nature of God. In the time he spent in solitude, the prophet has acquired

Zarathustra and his company arrive on an island, where Zarathustra encounters a fire dog. (Z II
xviii) On the topic of churches, Zarathustra accuses the fire dog: you surely know your own
species best! (Z II xviii) Fire dogs are symbolic for Christian churches, which are bloated and self
centered. Zarathustraism clearly despises the church for the actions resulted in God s death. The
church demands obedience from its followers, and thus led them astray.
It becomes apparent quickly that Zarathustra has love for Man. Despite this love, he still feels
beneath them. In a town, Zarathustra notices that new, man made structures had become smaller.
I pass through this people and keep my eyes open; they have become smaller, and ever become
smaller: the reason thereof is their doctrine of happiness and virtue (Z III v.ii). Those living in
this town do not live the way Zarathustra has told them to; as a result, Zarathustra literally feels
larger than them. Because he lives in the light of the overman, Zarathustra believes that he is more
prominent than a normal Man. (Z III v.i). Zarathustra s heightened opinion of himself is formed
from his dedication to the overman, as well as his dismissal of God. His relinquishment of God
allows him to come closer to the overman than those who still have faith in Christianity. I am
Zarathustra the godless: where do I find my equal? And all

While others may say that those who are deeply rooted in their religion have the right to express
their beliefs just as members of the LGBTQ community have the right to express their sexuality, it
is unconstitutional and frankly frowned upon in most religions to treat others with anything less
than the respect that they deserve solely because their choices may not align with a certain
religion s beliefs. As Christians, as with any other religion, you have the freedom to express
yourself without persecution but, as we all know, one of the greatest and most important
commandments in Christianity, as stated in Mark 12:31, is Love your neighbor as you love
yourself (The Holy Bible). Though the bill of rights states that any person born in America has the
freedom of religion and the freedom to practice whatever actions that belief may entitle, our
constitution also states that we have the freedom of expression. By passing bills such as HB1523,
we are further proving that discrimination is a prevalent problem in America s society. America is
known to be the land of the free. While some may say that this only means that American citizens
are not kept in bondage and are allowed to make their own decisions, it also means that we were
born with the freedom to be who we are. How can anyone live the American dream if they are
constantly being frowned upon and judged by others?

  • 2. New York City Police Department Analysis The New York City Police Department has conducted an extreme amount of stops, amounting to half a million because of suspected criminal involvement. The NYPD noticed a large amount of stops and decided to turn to RAND, an organization for research and development issues, to determine issues with their stops. RAND researchers conducted three types of analysis including external benchmarking, internal benchmarking, and how the outcome of stops differed from other stops. The first to be researched, external benchmarking was based on the criminals raceand the race of who officers particularly stopped. This was to see the different races that the police encountered with, yet there was no correlation the rates of criminals races. The second research... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The source is limited to the RAND researchers findings in 2006, published in 2007, limiting me to the facts from 10 years ago. Although, it is still timely because stop and frisk ended only 6 years later. The sources strengths are that it is factual information. The information tells the truth and gives different point of views on why officers stop certain citizens. The source uses information from the NYPD, Supreme Court cases, and the United States Census Bureau. I would be able to use all of this sources sources within my paper because they are all related to one another. The NYPD provides charts of information to show which races are stopped and what happens during the stops. To conclude with my questions, I would like to know if RAND researchers furthered their research until 2013 when stop and frisk finalized? I also am curious as to the background of the researchers, what their qualifications are to make them experts for this research. Overall, I enjoyed this source very much because of the unbiased, truthful facts the researchers were able to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay about The Potential Effects of Discrimination Task 3 P3 The potential effects of discrimination There are lots of potential effects related to discrimination. It includes things like disempowerment, low self esteem and self identity and also marginalisation. I am now going to explain these effects and connect them with a case study. Disempowerment is when a person or group of people may be made to feel less powerful or confident. Some people may try to fight against the discrimination causing an argument but many people do not and they lose the will to fight against it. As a result of this type of discrimination, they may then become depressed and feel devalued as well as disempowered. This could lead to health issues and may lead to them taking tablets which would make them more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This means they do not trust health and social care workers and organisations to be looking after and supporting them. All types of discrimination can also lead to negative behaviour and can partly cause aggression or crime; even living in poverty and experiencing discrimination can affect an individual s behaviour as well. Due to the negligence they may take out their frustration on the care providers or others in the society which would make them in the wrong and after being investigated this may or may not change because of the client s self esteem or pressure levels. As well as taking it out on the care providers, they are also able to take it out on health and social care professionals. Bethan Jenkins Case Study A retired teacher, Betty (65 years old), was diagnosed with Dementia. She lived at home with her husband Arthur (70 years old) who had been caring for her for several years. When she was diagnosed, No information was given to the couple. They had no relatives that they could rely on around them for support. Betty had a fall a few weeks after her diagnoses. It took a fall and an admission to hospital for the health and social care team to realise they were struggling. Finally, workers involved Betty and Arthur fully in giving information about Betty s condition and possible sources of help e.g. meals on wheels, luncheon club, day care etc. This enabled Betty to be fully included in as plan of care which enabled her to ... • 4. Election Day, President Of The United States During election day, millions of Americans are going to cast their vote for who they want to be the next president of the United States. Except is a lot more complicated than it seems. The electoral college is the collection of 538 delegates that have the power to determine who the next president will be; the number of total representatives in the House and Senate. These 538 votes aren t given to the citizen directly, but they are instead divided among the 50 states in America. Currently, people are suggesting who their state should pick for president. Simply put, if a state has a majority of votes for one candidate, (however small the majority is) that candidate gets all the electoral votes from said state; winner takes all. So, a candidate must win over half of the voting population in enough states to get the majority of electoral votes to win the election. But that s not all, these said electors aren t nailed down to vote for who their state constituents want at all; millions of votes can be thrown in the trash and forgotten forever. Many believe the Electoral College s votes protect the states that have small populations from the large populations states and in turn candidates will have to give more attention to small states. If this was true, it is being executed horrifically. Candidates are visiting, advertising, and campaigning more and more in swing states. In other words, the electoral college doesn t make candidates care about small states, or even big states. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Biological Foundations Of Personality Biological Foundations of Personality Aside from the common differences that can be seen from a distance without actually communicating or interacting with someone, such as the color of their skin, there are many other attributes that sets people apart. There are distinct differences in the way people think, feel, and behave; commonly referred to as personality. Various factors determine the persona of individuals. Some of these factors include the neural systems and distinctive genes. This paper looks at how genetic factors of people and their neural systems contribute to the personality of humans. The areas and pathways within one s brain determines their neural system. It is believed that the personality of an individual can be traced back to the structures of the brain and neural mechanisms. Some of these include, serotonin and dopamine pathways (Boundless, 2016). Biological perspectives are used by researchers to determine how hormones, neurotransmitters, and the different parts of the brain team up or interact to bring out the personality of an individual. One of the best case studies to affirm this theory is that of Phineas Gage. In 1858, Gage, a blasting foreman, was working on the railroad when one railroad spike, caused by a faulty blast, blew through his head (Boundless, 2016). • 7. Twelfth Night Madness Essay In a Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare there are many themes portrayed but the most prevalent was the topic of madness. The play Twelfth Night shows us that madness is merely a perception. This will be proved by three main proofs as seen in the play. These proofs are; Sebastian s view of Olivia and himself, the household s view of Malvolio, and Orsino s descent into madness . Various paraphernalia from the play such as quotes and examples from the play will be used to demonstrate the perceived changes of madness towards these characters. To begin, Sebastian s constantly fluent view of Olivia will be explored. When Sebastian first meets Olivia, he is conflicted with emotions. He believes that Olivia is very beautiful and he will definitely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the beginning Orsino has an infatuation with Olivia before even meeting her because tales are told about her beauty. When Olivia and Orsino meet for the first time he says, If music be the food of love, play on. Give me excess of it, that, surfeiting, The appetite may sicken and so die (1.1. 1 3). This shows that the Duke s passion has already grown past healthy levels. This can be seen by him insinuating that his desire needs to be sated which isn t healthy for either recipient. Orsino continues to fervently pursue Olivia throughout Twelfth Night by giving Cesario sickening notes begging Olivia to accept his proposal and to return his love. However the Duke may not be infatuated with Olivia especially, he could be an eager, over passionate lover. This is proved when near the end of the play when Viola s true identity is revealed. Olivia reveals her affections for Sebastian and the fact that they already married. Orsino is momentarily in disbelief but then Viola declares her love for him and he realizes all of her advice for Olivia was meant for him. This causes him to declare her his fancy queen and that he wishes to see her in a lady s clothes Give me thy hand and let me see thee in thy woman s weeds (5.1 279 280). • 8. Essay about Caravaggio s First Inspiration of St. Matthew Michelangelo Caravaggio, the great Baroque painter of the seventeenth century, was always an artist under scrutiny. His style, the subject matter of his paintings, and how he chose to depict his subjects, was often criticized and rejected by his patrons. In a journal article written by Troy Thomas, entitled Expressive Aspects of Caravaggio s First Inspiration of Saint Matthew , these rejected paintings are discussed. The article focuses on the themes of these rejected works, but namely Inspiration of St. Matthew, and uses these themes to prove the work s validity. This painting is compared and contrasted to other similar, accepted works of the time as well, to help show that the work was not done in bad taste. Commissioned by... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thomas mentions these aspects of the painting, but attributes them not to indecorousness, but to being an integral part of the message of the work. Thomas states that there are three important themes in the Inspiration of Saint Matthew: surprise, ignorance, and humility. These ideas were not reasons to reject the painting, but themes that gave the work a certain effect that was necessary to contemplate in order to understand. First, to address the issue of the offensive realism of Caravaggio, one must understand the artist. Caravaggio always said that he could not paint what he had not seen. So, the use of models was extremely important to him. Possibly, the model that he had used was indeed, old and wrinkled. This representation of the aged Saint Matthew was not intended to be distasteful, but was probably due to the type of model that he had chosen to pose for the painting. Other artists, when depicting angelic figures, use diaphanous, ethereal angels or infant like putti figures. Caravaggio, however, portrayed the angel as a pubescent boy, who looked more human than heavenly. This was also a reason to reject the work, since the angel had a certain erotic quality, which was deemed inappropriate for a religious painting. The substantiality of the body of the angel is also due to Caravaggio s style of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Each person has a right to privacy, but the question remains: How much information should be granted to the public ? The answer to this question varies from person to person. The industries, social networking, protection agency, and everyday situations create their own ideology of what must remain private. The Evolution of Privacy To begin, the constitution is the primary guideline for the privacy rights in America. This may begin to address the problem but it does not set its limitations. HeLa is one of the most provincial and revolutionary cell strain in the medical field. HeLa cells originated from Henrietta Lacks. Henrietta Lacks was a Black woman in times of segregation. Her only option for a hospital was Johns Hopkins. She needed to have them remove a tumor in her cervix. The doctor in charge of pathology at the time was Dr. George Otto Gey. He asked for tissue samples whenever available. The problem with cells is that they die off rather quick unless they are in the body still. Henrietta Lack s cells viability was stronger than any other. The cells would keep reproducing outside the body. Even as Henrietta Lacks has moved on, her cells kept reproducing. The only mistake that came from this discovery was that the doctors never even tried to consult with Henrietta on the whereabouts of her tissues. They had taken it without her knowledge and run tests without giving her information that they learned from them. It was not until the doctors wanted to run tests on the children that the family even knew. (Skloot 13) This might be because the family was known to be a vulnerable type. They did not know much what was going on, so they had just assumed the doctor was doing what was best for the patient. Instead the doctors had more concern for the industry and ... He was well aware of his precious talent and developed an arrogant and overly confident demeanor. He had little discipline and maturity outside the subject of music. There was an epidemic of typhoid in fall and early winter but there were no deaths, which show there were healthy and strong. Vigilantes were present because of the lack of law that there was in the towns. They felt it necessary that law had to be imposed on the town other wise it could fall apart. Caribbean Diaspora History Paper on Caribbean Diaspora Decendents of the Caribbean Diaspora are located in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom and countries that were previously colonial empires. The inhabited islands that are in the Caribbean are not only geographical regions, but also regions of the imagination, lived cultural experiences and are an interesting study in religious identity as well (Harry:2). Colonized by European powers from the sixteenth century, the Caribbean islands have become a mixture of cultures from Europe, Africa, and India, as well as from the original inhabitants of the islands. This was a time for growth in the United States, often referred to as the Industrial Age. This time period was an exciting period because of the fact that there is another revolution going on in the workplace. As technology started to change and bloom, everything around it started to transform and more jobs were created. As a result, the Industrial Revolution affected the whole stability of a nation, not only the economy. It affected the relationships between classes, and also the relationships between countries and gave those individuals who migrated over to the United States a chance at a prosperous life without slavery. With many Africans migrating to the United States there were those who decided to go back to the Caribbean and continue their traditional cultural ways. In the late eighteenth century, written reports discovered a cultural tradition of masking by Africans in various parts of the Caribbean: Belize, Bermuda, Haiti, Jamaica, the Bahamas, St. Kitts, Nevis, Guyana, Grenada, and Trinidad. These masking activities were called by several names like gumbe, jonkonu, or kambula, however today it is referred to as Carnival. Carnival is an annual celebration of life found in many countries of the world and is an integral part of West African religious culture, intimately connected with secret societies that were gender specific (Lewis:180). • 17. Social and Political Themes in the Movie Milk Essay Extra Credit Assignment MILK 1. What are the main themes, politically and socially, that are portrayed in the film? Milk is a biographical film based on the triumphs and struggles of Harvey Milk. He was a gay rights activist and the first openly gay elected official in California. Socially, the film addresses the discrimination homosexuals faced on a daily basis. (T)he normal majority , as labeled by Anita Bryant, inflicted prejudice upon the homosexual minority. The Castro , the name of a street in an area often inhabited by homosexual bars and such places, portrays the clan like social groupings. The entire neighborhood however was not friendly. I was very bothered by the comments Anita Bryant made during a televised speech that was shown in the film. She was an orange juice sales woman who was working to repeal laws that protect homosexual human rights; specifically in employment and housing. She described homosexuality as tearing down the foundation of the family unit and compared gays to prostitutes and thieves. She tried to convince the public that the traditional family was being threatened and that practicing or accepting homosexuality was blasphemy. Although the scenes of Harvey Milk recording his voice were split up throughout the film, I felt it to be the most powerful. Not only does he address the substantial probability of being assassinated, he does so calmly and courageously. He stated that, a gay activist is the target for someone who is insecure . As he did throughout his encounters with all kinds of people, he also stated that he often broke the tension when giving a speech to mostly straight men by telling a joke. Milk accomplished a lot for the gay rights movement, one that is still fighting today, and he did so with integrity, hard work, and sporadic humor. 4. Research has established the connection between staff qualifications and the quality of the early years provision, alongside the differences in quality between maintained and private, voluntary and independent (PVI) settings (Robert Holmes, 2012). It intended to employ an EYP within every children s centre by 2010, full day care settings by 2015 and have all settings move towards an NVQ level three as the minimum required qualification (Jones, 2014). However, it is apparent that this incentive failed as institutions offering EYPS courses are getting rid of them in favour of the QTS. In addition, the new and revised EYFS published in the 2017 states in each room there need only be one member of staff with a level three qualification whilst half of all other staff hold a level two (DfE, 2017). The statutory framework s requirements for the qualifications of staff are identical to that of 2008 (DfE, 2008), allowing half of remaining staff to be unqualified and level three to be an acceptable level for leadership; suggesting no progress has been made in the PVI sector for nine years. Eisenstadt, Sylva, Mathers and Taggart (2013) suggest that EYPS is not comparable to the QTS and therefore practitioners with the status will not be eligible for teacher pay and conditions (p. 2). As a practitioner this is demoralising and demotivating as it is suggested that qualified teachers directing early years practice, with excellent pedagogical leadership, will not only improve quality but raise the status of the sector and increase professionalism (Nutbrown, 2012), but there is no incentives or rewards B1504669 11 for professional development. Day 0 samples confirmed that opportunistic bacteria were present. SBEC bacterial concentrations increased linearly (P = 0.008) as LIPC doseincreased but concentrations were similar for 0 and 15 (Table 5.1). As the dose of LIPC increased the concentration of C. perfringens decreased linearly (P = 0.03). The remaining three opportunistic bacteriastrains, C. difficile, E. coli general, and E. coli K 12, were not significant (P ≥ 0.20) across treatments. Numerically, 25 had the lowest concentration of E. coli general, and 0 had the lowest concentration of C. difficile. Although increasing the dose of LIPC decreased C. perfringens the observation that increasing the dose also increases SBEC would suggest that there may be no additional benefit of dosing LIPC above the recommended rate. However, this would also suggest that the nutraceutical reaches the cecum without being compromised in the stomach during the digestionprocess. Parameters of inflammation, including ESR (P = 0.87) and range of motion (P ≥ 0.24) were not significant among treatments (Table 5.2). The play is accurate: he was accused of witchcraft, and refused to enter a plea, which held up the proceedings, since the law of the time required that the accused enter a plea. He was pressed to death with stones, but the method was used to try to force him to enter a plea so that his trial could proceed. • 22. Tomato Production Of The Tomato Plant BIG QUESTION where do tomatoes come from and how can we maximise yield? Alex Cottam Tomatoes are edible fruits of Solanum lycopersicum , More commonly known as the tomato plant. The plant originated in central America. Tomatoes are used in many dishes across the globe but were first used in mexico. Tomatoes are grown in temperate climates around the world however more hardy strains have been produced meaning some can survive at lower temperatures however to maximise yield lower temperatures are not ideal. In cooler areas of the globe they can be grown in greenhouses. They grow ,depending on the strain, anywhere from one metre tall to 3 metres tall although bush variates have the maximum yield. Being so tall the plant often cannot support itself as they have weak stems therefore support is required ie canes, stakes etc. The tomato plant is a perennial (grows back each year) in its native climate and grown as an annual (only survives one year then dies from lower temperatures) in temperate climates. In the greenhouse the plant needs to be kept above 16 degrees celsius and below 32 degrees , otherwise the enzymes will become denatured. ideally between 22 26 degrees as this will best imitate its native climate. Temperature is one of the limiting factors of plant growth so is one of the key factors to achieve a high yield. In order to keep it at these temperatures a greenhouse should be used or they should be planted in their native climate however a greenhouse is more ideal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. The Influence Of Arts And Education In Early Medieval America Before its unification in 1870, the country now known as Italy was comprised of cities. These cities were controlled and protected by the Holy Roman Empire until they won the right to govern themselves in the 12th century. The foreign emperor s lack of attention allowed the cities to slowly transform into city states and begin to build their own culture. The 1200 s became a time of many changes for Italy. The promotion of the arts and education flourished throughout the city states. Medieval universities were founded across Europein the 12th century. Only men were allowed to attend, and were often members of religious orders working as clerics. These universities offered two curriculums, trivium and quadrivium, to their small student population. • 27. The Proximate Causes Of Violence In The Yanomamo Culture In the Yanomamo culture, warfare is practiced as a way to demonstrate the strength of a village, or individual. Overall, warfare is practiced in the Yanomamo culture because of a combination of factors. One of the proximate, or indirect, causes of the violence include seeking revenge for villagers who have been killed. Another proximate cause of violence that it is used to steal women from other villages in order to increase the number of available wives. Also, villages must appear intimidating and tough so that other villages do not raid them. These are a few of the proximate causes of violence. Competition over scarce resources is one ultimate, or root, cause of violence. Men who are violent may gain greater social status, which encourages violence overall. Another ultimate cause of the violence is the lack of strong political leadership within the villages. These villages do not have leaders to stop violence or structure violence in productive ways. Without such leaders, villagers are more likely to rely on violence in impulsive ways. Hostility between villages often results in violence, as there are no leaders to resolve the hostility. In addition, another ultimate cause of violence is the geographical environment of the Yanomamo. Since the Yanomamo territory is restricted, and often invaded by outsiders, available land becomes more scarce. This causes competition for land to increase, which increases violence. Impact of Computers on Our Society Impact of Computers On Society 2010 The concept of a computing device was there since the 19th century but the actual device was not invented until the 1930s. The computers invented at that time served as a project to simplify scientific calculations and they fulfilled that task quite perfectly. Later on these were used to store data such as the process and calculations. At that time, people knew that this device was something which will never die like every important invention does for eg. Internet is a short form of the technical term internetwork , the result of interconnecting computer networks with special gateways (routers). The Internet is also often referred to as the Net. Although the basic applications and guidelines that make the Internet possible had existed for almost two decades, the network did not gain a public face until the 1990s. On 6 August 1991, CERN, a pan European organization for particle research, publicized the new World Wide Web project. The Web was invented by British scientist Tim Berners Lee in 1989. An early popular web browser was ViolaWWW, patterned after HyperCard and built using the X Window System. It was eventually replaced in popularity by the Mosaic web browser. In 1993, the National Center for Supercomputing Applications at the University of Illinois released version 1.0 of Mosaic, and by late 1994 there was growing public interest in the previously academic, technical Internet. By 1996 usage of the word Internet had become commonplace, and consequently, so had its use as a synecdoche in reference to the World Wide Web. Meanwhile, over the course of the decade, the Internet successfully accommodated the majority of previously existing public computer networks (although some networks, such as FidoNet, have remained separate). During the late 1990s, it was estimated that traffic on the public Internet grew by 100 percent per year, while the mean annual growth in the number of Internet users was thought to be ... • 38. Decision Making Models In Hal Rainey s Understanding And... In the context of public organizations, there are a number of decision making models that can applied to the actions of these organizations. In his book Understanding and Managing Public Organizations, Hal Rainey outlines a number of different theories of organizational decision making that explain why organizations do what they do. The three most prominent theories he describes are rational decision making, incremental decision making, and mixed scanning. Each of these will be discussed in depth for their merit and shortfalls. Rational decision making is the first and simplest method of making decisions. It is the least complex model of decision making and it has essentially four baseline factors that play into it. According to Rainey, rational decision making takes place when the actor making decisions is aware of and understands the goal that he or she is trying to complete. In addition, the actor must be able to determine the importance of the goals being evaluated and then prioritize them accordingly. After this has been done the actor looks at and evaluates all the different ways that a goal can be accomplished, and as a result the actor chooses the action that accomplishes the target goal the most efficiently and effectively. Due to the often times, complex and politically volatile nature of the public sector, rational decision making models are best applied to less important decisions. For example, a rational decision making model can be applied to day to day ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Informative Essay About Themed Consumer Environment Themed Consumer Environment Analysis I have not been to many themed environments in my lifetime for many reasons including financial, time, and travel constraints as well as the fact that my family hold the belief that we dont need to go anywhere grand to have a good time. The emphasis has always been placed on simplicity and quality time spent with family and friends. We used to go snow skiing many years ago so my recollection is hazy. We go camping every summer which is almost the opposite of a consumer environment. However, a couple of years ago, for my mother s birthday, we did manage to make a trip to Arlington, Texas to watch a Texas Ranger baseballgame. This is a huge consumer environment which correlates well with everything I have read and learned during this course and so it will be the focus of this analysis. The 270 acre Globe Life Park in Arlington which opened in April of 1994, was a successor of the Arlington Stadium which closed that same year. I vaguely remember going to the old one a couple years before it closed. With the new park, the capacity increased by about 6,000 and many more areas were made available for shops, restaurants, new technology, suites, and other means of consumption. As George Ritzer details modern athletic facilities further in A Tour of the New Means of Consumption, Although these stadiums often resemble earlier versions and even seek to copt them in many ways, they also have a number of innovations. • 41. Mill On Liberty Analysis In On Liberty, J.S. Mill surveys the discord amid the tyranny of the majority and the rights of the minority. In a democracy, these are both esteemed core values. As an example, the issue of race relations in the United States of America has long been a battle between legally sanctioned discrimination by the majority and the will of those in the minority to fight for their liberty. In the 21st century, we are now witnessing constant controversies between these age old problems of democratic society. From gay marriage, and the associated rights of the LGBTQ community, to voter s rights and a renewed need for equality of liberty among people of different creeds, sexes, and races, the foundation of the issues never really changes, it is still... For example, the belief that it was acceptable to rule over a people because they were thought savages is just antithetical to his mostly liberal thinking. Secondly, there is an air of elitism present throughout the work that is not required. Of course, there will always be those who are less gifted than others in certain cognitive respects. This does not mean that they should have less of a say in how their society and individual lives are arranged. There is a delicate line to walk on this issue (e.g. questions such as: what constitutes a rational human being? And: who makes that decision?). These are subtle questions of distinction, and for the most part, Mill appears to suggest that this is common knowledge or, that perhaps some lower level of human beings exist that must be controlled by those more intellectually gifted. Undeniably, the Vietnam War belongs in the period of the Turbulent Sixties which along with other tremendous political events such as the Civil War, divided the American society for decades. Until today the memory of the war still haunts the American conscience. Thus, the purpose of the essay is to examine the significance of the VietnamWar as a collective memory in the American society. The church demands obedience from its followers, and thus led them astray. It becomes apparent quickly that Zarathustra has love for Man. Despite this love, he still feels beneath them. In a town, Zarathustra notices that new, man made structures had become smaller. I pass through this people and keep my eyes open; they have become smaller, and ever become smaller: the reason thereof is their doctrine of happiness and virtue (Z III v.ii). Those living in this town do not live the way Zarathustra has told them to; as a result, Zarathustra literally feels larger than them. Because he lives in the light of the overman, Zarathustra believes that he is more prominent than a normal Man. (Z III v.i). Zarathustra s heightened opinion of himself is formed from his dedication to the overman, as well as his dismissal of God. His relinquishment of God allows him to come closer to the overman than those who still have faith in Christianity. I am Zarathustra the godless: where do I find my equal? And all ...
