Why I Want To Be A Nhs Essay
We are all born originals why is it so many of us die copies? This quote by Edward Young is an
anecdote I often ponder. More and more, I find myself trying to form to society ideals, and notice my
unique personality being shoved under the rug, but each time I think about this phrase, I become my
true self a little more. The National Honor Society is a program for not only exceptional students, but
also extraordinary people. I, Zoë, am a unique individual and my inimitable assets are a perfect for
this club full of opportunities to put these skills to use. I should be indicted into NHS because I have
met all the requirements and possess qualities of characteristics which separate me from ordinary
students. Although being a member of NHS isn t purely academic, my commitment to my grades
should be noted. My freshman year I was part of the International Baccalaureate program, and
succeeded in getting A s in both of my honors classes every semester. I am most definitely not a
quitter, but after a trial year, I realized that IB was not the place for me because I had the desire to
become more active in school, join the swim team, and focus on my job. Even though I did not
continue with IB, this year I am taking three honors classes. As of this ... Show more content on

This recently became evident to me when I joined the IB program and was assigned several group
projects. Each occurrence, I felt the need to direct my peers, assign equal parts to each student, and I
am guilty to admit that I felt uncomfortable when I was not able to take charge. Because I am so
young I have not gotten much of a chance to be a leader, but each summer I volunteer two weeks to
become a teacher at my church s vacation bible school. This year, I was the lead teacher of sixteen
children between the ages of seven and eight. I not only got the chance to guide them in making crafts
and singing songs, but also leading them to

Postmodernism And Modernism
Successfully marketing a product is a fundamental component in remaining competitive in the vicious
dog eat dog world of business. The rise of postmodernism in society redefined what successful and
adaptive marketing looks like and consequently it gave branding a whole new meaning and
significance. Postmodernism means different things to different disciplines, yet the general consensus
is that it is a contemporary cultural phenomenon (Brown 1996). The postmodern brand model enabled
brands to have an identity that connects with its customers by presenting brands in an anthropological
view via customer engagement promotions. The gradual domination of social media in western
society enables organizations to market their brands to exist beyond ... Show more content on

Hyperreality is one of the most apparent features in all forms of advertising. Common examples of
hyperreality advertising include beauty promotions that were touched up with photoshop, products
that claim to have outrageous effects (e.g. Redbull gives you wings ), and it is also sold in fantasy
video games (League of Legends, Street Fighter, Assassins Creed, etc.). Furthermore, advertising is
often clandestinely placed in sporting video games because it s integrated in its culture (adverts on the
boards in NHL games, billboards in racing games, etc.) (Kaplan and Haenlein 2009, 565).
Hyperreality exists in reality television shows such as Big Brother and Survivor , the participants of
the show are aware that they are being perpetually recorded and it alters their regular behavior and
mannerisms. Social network communities further perpetuate the existence of hyperreality online as
there is over a combined one billion users between just Facebook and Twitter alone. These social
networks are then used to communicate with its customers and concurrently encourage consumers to
share their brand experiences with each other.
Anti foundationalism is the final trait being reviewed, in a marketing context it is about brands and/or
advertisementss going against the grain of societal norms. Geico is an example of how anti
foundationalism can be enforced successful for a brand s image. Geico, a company that sells car
insurance, managed to make it s brand

Peace Like A River Crow Symbolism
Crows in Peace Like a River
The crow in Peace Like a River symbolizes most of the main characters in the book.
Firstly, the crow symbolizes Davy. The crow is a kind of bird. The crow is supposed to fly in the sky
or on the branch of tree. Unfortunately, on page 133, the cars on the road ran over the crow. The crow
shouldn t be on the road. Davy was also in big trouble because of a wrong move, which was
murdering Finch and Basca. On page 133, Swede called crow as trash when they were approaching
the crow. Davy was abandoned by the society like trash was abandoned by people because people
believed that he was a murderer who escaped from the jail. According to the description of the crushed
crow, the crow was like asking for mercy. Davy was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On page 49, Basca was not killed in the first round of shooting. He clawed the floor and his eyes
rolled. Basca s pose was quit similar to the smashed crow s pose. In my research, crows are always
related to death. And Finch and Basca eventually died. Also the narrator described that the crow was
asking for mercy. It s reasonable for the 2 guys to ask for mercy. Although they break into Davy s
house, they had reasons to do so. On page 84, Stanley testified, Davy broke the windows and taillights
of Israel s car, in which the boy took inordinate pride. Davy broke Israel s car in order to make them
break them into his house and kill them. The narrator described it as He d issued them an invitation. In
addition, there was no evidence said that Finch and Basca were going to hurt the Lands. Although they
had offended the laws, they didn t deserve to die. These facts made people think that Davy was a
murderer who found killing funny. What s more, Basca was not a normal boy. On page 70, Tommy
Basca s second mother said, He was so easy to have. Oh, he was sweet . On page 71, the narrator
admitted, Tommy Basca was an idiot, but he wasn t purebred evil and He tagged after Israel Finch
because Israel Finch liked having a disciple and no one else was witless enough to want the job.
According to Tommy Basca mother s testimony, Basca was a boy who liked following others without
own judgment. He was killed although he had no idea what he

Process Experiential Emotion Focused Therapy
Process Experiential Emotion Focused Therapy (PEEFT) is an approach used to improve the
regulation, expression, acceptance, integration and transformation of emotional experiences. Emotions
govern the way we interact with the world around us and serve as the primary driver of decision
making, allowing us to identify potential risk and understanding personal needs and desires. The
process of Emotion Focused therapy (EFT) is essentially to improve overall emotional intelligence by
working with the clients current emotional experiences, understanding maladaptive emotional scheme
that may be preventing the clients personal growth and impeding on their everyday life and
experiencing. The EFT therapist guides the client through a process of awareness and expression of
emotions that can then be understood, reflected upon, integrated and transformed to add meaning to
their personal experiences. This review focuses on two 10 segments extracted from a counselling
session based primarily on the use of the intentional Emotion Focused Therapy, counselling
interventions. The first transcript models a more constructive use of the EFT approach, whereas the
second segment highlights a less effective use of the EFT interventions, which can be seen in the
client s storytelling and the stagnation in the session during the second segment. The client in this
session presented with a desire to become more of an authority figure in various aspects of his life. His

The Theory Of Batteries And Electrochemical Cells
In class I was introduced to the concepts of batteries and electrochemical cells. I am really interested
in batteries and how they work and what goes into making a battery. I was inspired to this experiment
mostly because I want to study electrical engineering in university and I wanted to find out the
chemistry behind the production of the electrical energy in batteries. During my reading, I found out
that the first battery was actually invented by Italian physicist Count Alessandro Volta and was
demonstrated to Napoleon Bonaparte in 1801. Constructed from alternating discs of zinc and copper
wit pieces of cardboard soaked in brine between the metals, this was the first battery that produced a
reliable steady current of electricity. The reason why this works is because, as I found out, batteries
use the process of redox reactions to create voltage. I also found out that the difference in reactivity
leads to the voltage that will be produced. Voltage is a measure of the amount of energy which each
coulomb of electrons can carry. The more readily a species loses electrons, the bigger the build of
potential energy and the higher the voltage. The reason why transition metals are used is because they
are very good conductors of electricity and they have seas of electrons so electrons can travel within
them fairly easily. There is a table that provides the results of experiments where these various
compartments are connected to a hydrogen electrode. It is known as the

All Summer In A Day Mood
In the story, All Summer in a day, by Ray Bradbury, the setting helps develop the mood of sadness,
and depression. The author does this by making the setting dark and stormy everyday on venus. The
setting makes the story gloomy at first, but when the sun comes out for one hour, it makes the reader
hopeful, but the main character missed the sun. That makes the reader s mood depressed and sad. The
text states, It had been raining for seven years; thousands upon thousands of days compounded and
filled from one end to the other with rain...(92) This explains that it is always raining on venus, and
the kids have yet to see the real sun, except for the main character, Margot. She has seen the sun when
she was little, and then was taken to mars.

Sociological Imagination Summary
In chapter one of The Sociological Imagination, C. Wright Mills writes, Seldom aware of the intricate
connection between the patterns of their own lives and the course of world history, ordinary people do
not usually know what this connection means for the kinds of people they are becoming and for the
kinds of history making in which they might take part (Mills). Essentially, Mills is saying that people
have tunnel vision when they do not use the sociological imagination, which is the awareness of the
connection between an individual s experience and the history of society. We tend to only focus on
what is directly affecting us while staying unaware of what is affecting our entire society. We do not
see that all of our significant life events are merely products of history. I find value in Mills ... Show

Without a sociological view, the average person would see that my parents left the Philippines for
personal reasons. They wanted to raise a family and give their children a better life, so they
immigrated to America. Now, using what Mills calls the sociological imagination, it becomes clear
that my parents actually left the Philippines due to a cultural aspect affecting their country and society.
Basically, in the Filipino culture, families take care of their elders so there are few nursing homes in
the country. My mother is a physical therapist who works in nursing homes, so she would not have
had a job in the Philippines. In America, however, there are plenty of nursing homes meaning more
working opportunities for my mother, thus my parents immigrated to America. The culture and history
of Filipino society is the main reason that I grew up in America, not just because my parents wanted a
better life. With the sociological imagination, people can learn more about themselves by
understanding how the history of the world has affected

TJ s Varsity Boys Soccer team. The Spartans played against Chaparral on Thursday, September 3rd,
and were victorious after a hard fight, successfully launching their season.
The boys began preparation for their season early in summer vacation, meeting up a few days out of
the week to practice and scrimmage against one another. This summer practice was optional, but it
provided a good opportunity to stay in shape and prepare for the upcoming season, which is especially

won their first game of the season, and finishing on a strong note.
We moved the ball pretty well, and we basically kept the ball in [Chaparral s] half the majority of the
game, explained teacher and coach Jon Poole, explaining the strong points of the first game. Of
course, with any first game, there are bound to be areas needing work. Senior Santino Salazar
explained that, We had a bad start, we were very slow on getting there. so that kind of affected us quite
a bit. However, Salazar added that, We finished out strong, because that s where we had the intensity.
With time and practice, the boys will be playing at the same intensity from start to finish.
Freshman starter and center midfield Jack Thibodeau agreed that there were many areas in which the
Spartans excelled during their first game. I think we played as a team and we moved the ball really
well, he said. He also expressed that he is excited to go on and win State. Confidence is an aspect easy

Jeffery Rosen s The Supreme Court

rivalries that shaped the transformation of laws and our lives. Rosen shows us the rivalries between
justices and their ideologies and how their ideologies have shaped our laws today. Starting in 1952
with President Harry S Truman and ending fifty four years later with the presidency of George W.
Bush, Rosen takes and shapes the novel through the eyes of the justices. The novel, The Nine: Inside

Throughout the book, Rosen analyzes specific traits of judges such as political parties and
appointment reason and so on. Rosen uses direct quotes from the judges to identify how judges have
to lean away from certain beliefs and lean towards other beliefs for the sake of keeping the country
free and under control. In each section, Rosen compares two justices and obviously favors one over
the other. But, as the author, he does recognize the flaws in his view, and the pros in the opposite view.
Rosen clearly favors justices who promote harmony in the court and create rulings with unanimous
decisions. But, Rosen will always comment on something positive about a judge he does not favor,
and will comment on something negative on the justice he does favor, balancing himself out. Another
key factor that informs the reader about how the law came about to be how it is today is by judicial
temperament. Rosen uses this as a key point while comparing the justices. Judicial Temperament
describes the judge s general attitude towards the law, and other judges. He states, If the pairings of
judicial temperaments in this book suggest anything, it is that courting attention and partisan approval
in the short term is no guarantee of judicial respect in the long term (Rosen). This means that while
comparing and contrasting temperaments that whenever something is decided, it doesn t mean it will

Overgeneralization Of Sleep
Sleep is undeniably a necessity for humans and other animals alike. At the beginning of each day, our
bodies awake like clockwork in conjunction with the rising sun. Then, at day s end, they begin to wind
down into sleep until the morning. While there certainly may be plenty of mysteries revolving sleep
that have yet to been unraveled, from all the way up until now and for centuries to come, it is evident
that sleep should hold priority in the schedules of all people. Yet, despite all of this being true, sleep is
consistently being taken for granted. And, it is not an overgeneralization to say that many people have,
at least once, trudged through a late night as many people have. Even to the point of the night no

Day by day, if one were to consistently voluntarily restrict their sleeping hours, he or she would
gradually build up what is referred to as sleep debt . Sleep debt defines the cumulative effect of
reduced sleep hours. (Dinges et al., 1997) The more and more the sleep debt grows from not getting a
single good night s rest, the more moody, irritable, and incoherent a person can get. While there are no
limits to the extent of how moody, irritable, and incoherent someone can become, there gets to a
certain point where a person s awareness of how tired or sleepy he or she is goes down. In addition to
that, increased sleep debt has also resulted in a decrease in the responsiveness of cognitive brain
functions. This phenomena is what is being described and what occurred in the introductory anecdote
above. It was not because of the body genuinely feeling less tired and drowsy more so was it that the
awareness of the hypothetical person to recognize how tired he/she was has gone down. In reality, it
will take more than a few hours to fully recover from sleep deprivation. Based on a study focusing on
the effects of cumulative sleep debt, a sample size of 16 adults were chosen and were forced to sleep
approximately 5 hours each night, well under the recommended average. (Dinges et al., 1997) The
results of this study show that there is

Debating Gender Inequality In The United States
Summary The article discussed the debate between governor Romney and President Obama. The
article brought out how both candidates focused on womens labor as a family issue. The sociology
aspect of gender discrimination and workplace inequality is emphasized as well. The author states at
the latter part of the article that: both candidates need to be better informed on the complex factors that
produce workplace inequality (Debating Gender Workplace Inequality).

employers are actively engaged in putting forth the effort to beware of employee s work and family

these issues. These two articles relate well to the main article because it reverts back to the idea about

how a woman has to balance between her responsibilities to her job and her family, and this continues

Monologue In Our Town
Thornton Wilder, a Wisconsin native, is the writer of the Pulitzer Prize winner play Our Town. In Our
Town, Wilder tells the story of a town in Grover s Corners, New Hampshire, and the daily lives of the
inhabitants. In the play, the author uses minimal props and scenery as well as including a main
character known as the Stage Manager that has the ability to break the fourth wall, allowing him to
talk to the audience. This factor of talking to the audience is a major component of making the public
a part of the town. Throughout the play, there are many instances in which the Stage Manager uses
various cues as well as dialogues to incorporate the audience and develop an intimate relationship to
create a true sense of our town . Initially, one of the most notable instances in which the Stage Manger

Most notably, the dialogue after the end of every act in which he refers to them and lets them know
that it is the end of the act and prompts the audience to do as they please during their breaks. One of
the occasions in which this can be seen is at the end of Act I. The Stage Manager lets the audience
know that that is the end of the first act and prompts them to go and smoke, for those that do smoke
(Wilder 46). Alternatively, Wilder uses this same technique at the end of Act II and Act III in which
the Stage Manager announces a ten minute intermission and wishes the audience a good night.
Similarly, the play does a great job of incorporating the audience into the message being delivered.
Haberman explains that life should be done with one idea at mind which is that life can stop whenever
it is least expected, and therefore should be lived in a much better way (29). The idea is presented
most prominently within the third act of the play and portrays and important aspect in the overall

Shakespeare s Much Ado About Nothing
Speaking with old English as his first language, Shakespeare portrayed a story. Tragedies, Much Ado
About Nothing is a comedy, which uplifts spirits as it circles the lives of Hero, Claudio, Beatrice, Don
John, and Benedick. Love, trickery, and deception are motifs used to develop a theme relatable to
years later. Using love as a basis tricks are placed everywhere in the Italian town of Messina to spark
the interest of two or to ruin the love. In Much ado About Nothing, William Shakespeare s explores
the motif of deception, and how nothing is as it seems, connected to the human nature for people of
love, deception is neither always good or always detrimental, it is how it is portrayed. Deception, at
first glance, appears as a word usually in a negative tone, but in times the act of deception is used to
benefit the characters lives. Nevertheless, Shakespeare allowed for deception to be played with when
the characters never expected it. In of Much Ado About Nothing, deception is used in the way to help
others. As an example, in Act 2 Scene 1 a ball took place where all the men and women were to dress
in guises. Don Pedro, the prince, agreed to help Claudio woo Hero over so Claudio could no longer
say he is a bachelor. This is an act of deception used in the positive effect. In Act 1 Sc. 1 Don Pedro
tells to Claudio, If thou dost love fair Hero, cherish it, And I will break with her and with her father,
and Thou shall have her. Don Pedro encouraged Claudio to cherish

The Western Media Democratic Promotion Against The East
The 2010 airing of the Nobel Peace Prize awards ceremony was met with controversy from numerous
ends of the world, as its recipient was the jailed Chinese activist Liu Xiaobo. It has been argued by the
Chinese government and outlets that this event is a product of the media and by doing so critiques the
broadcast as a representation of western imperialism and as such highlights the limits of the liberal
political press model. The communist party ran newspaper Global Times attacked the broadcast as a
political tool of Western interests , and whether agreeing or not with this accusation, it is easy to
understand why such a conclusion can be made. This case can be analysed in some ways as a case of
the western media democratic promotion against the east.
The idea of democratic supremacy can be argued thoroughly when deliberated through a political
ideological perspective. The Nobel committee noted that the Chinese government had labelled Liu
Xaiobo as a criminal and saw his prize as provocative to their judgment and rule. Though the program
places itself in direct opposition to this, with Thorbjørn Jagland stating in his speech that it is one of
the most important decision in the peace prizes history . He labels the Chinese punishment of Liu as
severe and calls Liu the central spokesman for human rights and an international symbol for the
struggle against China. This can in turn be viewed as a critique of the other and a direct promotion of
the western model of

Essay on the Rental Heart
Most people have tried it before, and those that haven t are either too young to have tried it, or simply
just heartless. It s terrible and beautiful all at the same time, which is probably why it s such a great
topic for stories. However, getting your heart broken at some point in your life is inevitable. For some,
it happens more than once. This is the case for our main character in the short story The Rental Heart ,
by Kirsty Logan.
To begin with, the reader has no clue as to whether the main character is a boy or a girl. In my head
though, I got the image of a girl. The story is about this girl, who gets her heart broken over and over
again, by boys as well as girls (she is bisexual). It s not really a problem for her, because she ... Show

Maybe it s simply a whole different world! She also uses many symbols, especially to express how
love feels to the main character. The heart was dusty and tarnished and utterly empty . This shows the
reader just how heart broken she was. Her heart hasn t felt real love in a long time, so it is dusty. It has
been abused many times, so it is tarnished. And because of all this, it leaves her with nothing more
than an empty space. Maybe the island that she says she went to for a year isn t really an island that
she actually went to either. Maybe she just closed herself down mentally, unable to deal with the world
with a broken heart. That could have felt to other people, as if she was actually away on an island.
What seems to be pulling this story towards science fiction the most however, seems to be the fact that
even though it s all clearly one big metaphor for getting your heart broken and mending it again, it s
nowhere close to how reality is. Heartbreaks come in all shapes and sizes. But in real life you can t
just go well, tough luck, she wasn t the one for me, so I m not going to be sad about it . Healing a
broken heart takes time in the real, non fictional world. Just changing it like it s nothing, that s the real
science fiction in the story.
All in all, we should be glad that we don t have these kinds of rental services available. It would be
way too boring. What makes life exciting is that it s fragile; you never know

Individualism Vs Society, A Doll s House
Individualism vs Society, A Doll s House Struggle In the 19th century Victorian society, individuals
were expected to follow strict generalized standards for what is considered, acceptable conduct. With
his play, A Doll s House , Ibsen captures conflicts, especially for women, to abide by the standards
placed by society. While Nora the main character at first seems to fulfil her role as the perfect mother
and wife, she is eventually divided between her obligations as a woman, and her need to express her
true self. On the other hand, Nora s husband Torvald, strictly abides by what society has deemed
honorable and is only worried about the outside perception of himself. This relentless need to maintain
a façade impedes him to accept Nora s rebellious actions; and fears that her actions will turn their
family into outcasts of society. Ibsen portrays, through several characters in the play A Doll s House ,
the struggle of individuals to express their original true self in a repressive Victorian society, while at
the same time fulfill their societal expectations. Throughout the play, Nora experiences a
metamorphosis that will change her perceptions of a fulfilled life. At first, Nora seems to be the
perfect wife and mother of the Victorian society. She is eager to please her oppressive husband in
every way that he wants and dutifully cares for her children. However, Rahman points out that It s a

type that are found and kept as valuables but that s not all that crystals can be, they can also be edible.
For example, Rock Candy is a type of crystal that is edible. These types of crystals are sugar crystals.
Now, the real question is, is it possible to make sugar crystals from the comfort of your own home? In
order to make sugar crystals you will need the following supplies; 1 cup of water, 3 cups of table
sugar, a clean glass jar, a pencil or butter knife, sting or yarn (do not use nylon string), a pan, a spoon,
and food coloring. The first step into making these tasty treats is to tie a string to your pencil or butter
knife. Make sure that your string does not touch the bottom or sides of the jar in order for this
experiment to work. You can begin to boil water in the pan once your instructor has confirmed that
you are ready. Once the water begins to boil, stir in one spoonful of sugar at a time. You want to make
sure that you have a lot sugar in the solution but not too ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The string is the where the surfacing of the crystals will begin. Small crystals of sugar will encrust the
string as water evaporates from it. The tiny seed crystals provide a starting point for the bigger
crystals. Future growth of the crystals will form around these points. The string provides the basic
foundation for the crystals to form on. Without the string, we would not be able to form the crystals
together. There is plenty of science behind sugar crystals. They are a very fascinating candy. They are
beautiful and tasty! Sugar crystals have some very interesting details and are very simple to build.
Once the molecules all come together in the end, you ll have a beautiful crystal and a sweet treat! Can
an individual build these crystals with just a jar, some sugar and water, and a string? It is very much

How does Sunset Boulevard represent the Hollywood Studio...
Sunset Boulevard directed by Billy Wilder in 1950 is based on how Norma Desmond, a huge
Hollywood star, deals with her fall from fame. The film explores the fantasy world in which Norma is
living in and the complex relationship between her and small time writer Joe Gillis, which leads to his
death. Sunset Boulevard is seen as lifting the face of the Hollywood Studio System to reveal the truth
behind the organisation. During the time the film was released in the 1950s and 60s, audiences started
to see the demise of Hollywood as cinema going began to decline and the fierce competition of
television almost proved too much for the well established system. Throughout this essay I will
discuss how Sunset Boulevard represents the Hollywood ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The film s main focus largely represents the Hollywood star system to which Norma Desmond is a
victim of. The film particularly highlights the fantasy world in which Norma lives in, the world where
she is the greatest star (Norma Desmond, Sunset Boulevard, 1950). Sunset Boulevard steps into
Norma s mixed up world where hundreds of photos of herself clutter her crumbling mansion and
where she watches herself on screen on a weekly basis. The crumbling and deteriorating mansion
could be seen as a metaphor for Norma s fall from stardom, the collapse of her career. The focus of
Norma s fame is a recurring theme throughout the film that is referenced in order to emphasise the
extent to which fame has affected Norma and her life. When Norma decides to talk to Cecil DeMille
about her script the young security guard questions her by saying Norma, who? as the younger
generation are unlikely to have heard of the actress. This further emphasises the harsh reality of fame
and in particular, Hollywood, as new actors and actresses are constantly churned out to appeal to the
audiences needs for the new Hollywood star . Besides the main focus of the star system, other
representations of the studio system are also apparent within the film, for example when Joe s
thoughts are expressed

The Annexation Of The United States
The annexation of Texas was a path that many Texans wanted. Nearly ninety percent of Texans
wanted to become part of the United States. People hadn t come to Texas to become part of the British
Empire; most were particularly incensed by the British insistence on emancipation of the slaves;
responding to public sentiment, the Texas Senate demanded that President Houston give them a full
accounting of his dealings with Great Britain . Before annexation, The Republic of Texas was a
sovereign nation that existed for nearly ten years. The annexation process was proposed by John Tyler.
Unfortunately, President Martin Van Buren struck down the annexation of Texas out of fear that this
would expand slave territory and ensue war with Mexico. The Treaty of Annexation, Treaty of
Guadalupe Hidalgo, Mexican American War and Joint Resolution of Congress all impacted the
annexation process.
In June of 1844, the United States Senate considered a treaty which had been submitted for
ratification; this treaty was the Treaty of Annexation. The purpose of this treaty was designed to bring
The Republic of Texas into United States of America as one of its states. This proposal was defeated in
the United States Senate. The annexation process started when Texas declared independence from
Mexico. The unanimous vote of the people of Texas in favor of annexation to the United States will be
remembered, as also the diplomatic correspondence between Mr. Forsyth and Mr. Hunt, in 1837 on the

Paraphilia Essay
There are many weird and disturbing things that people do all around the world, to be specific, these
certain things are done for pure sexual arousal. A paraphilia is a condition in which a person s sexual
arousal and gratification depend on fantasizing about and engaging in sexual behavior that is atypical
and extreme. I will go through multiple types of Paraphilias and explain what they are, how they affect
the public and my view towards the philia. To begin, the most common paraphilia is Fetishism. This
involves the non use of nonliving objects as a source of sexual arousal. Some examples of nonliving
objects would be: Women s panties, Bras, or High Heeled shoes. This paraphilia seems to be the least
severe out of all the others as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Examples of this are having sex with children who are not of age, touching children inappropriately,
who are not of age and child pornography. This is the most severe philia in my opinion and it holds
great consequences. One can be charged with numerous CSC charges, spend life on the sex offenders
list, go to prison for many years, or even be killed because they are a pedophile. Today, there are
roughly 400,000 registered sex offenders in the united states (80 100,000 are unregistered). And 89%
of child sexual assault cases involve people known to the child. My opinion is that these people need
to be locked up for max sentences according to the law, not life in prison as some would want. These
people commit horrible crimes to young children and need to pay for the physical and emotional
damage that has left children scarred for life.
The most disturbing of them all would have to be Necrophilia. This is the sexual attraction to dead
human bodies. Things like touching and having sex with the bodies of the deceased are examples.
There are only a dozen or so documented cases; However, it happens more than we would think.
Having intercoarse with dead human bodies is a crime in most countries and the punishment in the
United States is a felony serving no more than five years in prison. My opinion of this paraphilia is
that it takes a very, very sick mind to have intercourse with the remains of a human, it s disrespectful
to the dead and who knows what

Proving Oxygen Therapy
Proving Oxygen Therapy Considering that oxygen is a drug, we must provide it according to the
doctor s order. By providing therapy, Oxygen is ordered in fractional inspired oxygen (FIO2) or liters

therapy safely, guidelines would be device selection (high flow or low flow), advanced airways, and
patient ergonomics and movement. Previously mentioned, device selection depends on patient s
outcome and condition. There are low and high flow devices. In low flow devices, oxygen is delivered

Breitenfeld Battle Analysis
The small Saxon village of Breitenfeld has long since been absorbed by the city of Leipzig. There isn t
that much to see there. There is no tourism to speak of and even people in the area have only a vague
notion of the importance that their small town once held. In fact, in the fields to the east of the city
was fought a battle that probably decided the direction of European (and thus Western) Civilization.
The battle fought there was not just a clash of armies; it was a collision between religions, a testing
ground for new tactics and a stage for larger than life personalities. An afternoon in September,
1631was all it took for the world to take its present course. BACKGROUND One hundred years

As Pappenheim s defeated formations fell back, the rest of the Imperial cavalry attacked the Saxon
army holding Gustavus left flank. The inexperienced (but apparently well dressed) Saxon infantry,
which was formed into Tercios like their Catholic opponents were routed and fled the field in panic.
Over 3000 of them were cut down by pursuing cavalry. The rout of the Saxons was a massive problem
for Gustavus. This is where his adaptation of the linear formation saved him. In warfare such as this,
the flanks are everything. If your flank is turned then your army must flee in order to avoid
destruction. The Swedes, in their long lines of infantry, were able to pull their expose flank back faster
than the slow moving Imperial Tercios (which had, at this point, not been involved in the attacks) were
able to move around it. In modern terms, Adolphus refused his flank to the enemy. After securing his
battered left flank, Gustavus struck from his right with his cavalry and his well disciplined infantry. It
is worth mentioning the high level of training that the Swedish musketeers. They were trained to load
and fire at a much higher rate than other musketeers of the time. The Swedes were much more
dependent on firepower than other armies of the time and Gustavus attack tore the Imperial Tercios
apart with musket and cannon fire. Sometime after the Swedish counterattack, Gustavus infantry
captured most of the Catholic artillery pieces and because the Swedes were cross trained in other
disciplines, they were able to add the weight of the captured cannons to their own attack. This added
firepower was the last straw for the Catholic forces. They broke and ran for their lives. Thousands
were cut down or captured in the ensuing pursuit (Rickard, 2000). Gustavus Adolphus had his victory
and the world changed

Analytical Analysis Of The Preface By C. Ellis
In the Preface, Ellis recreates the sense of urgency felt at the time of the Revolutionary War. Ellis
discusses how the founding members of the revolutionary generation secured their legacies through
battle and later though legislation. Ellis reminds the reader that our forefathers risked being hung for
treason. No other colony at that time in history had ever successfully won its independence to form a
lasting republic, thus the United States had no basis to build upon.
Ellis supplements the reader with many of the different perspectives of the American Revolution.
Some of the revolutionary leaders thought in the long run that America had the potential to become a
unified nation. Others were more shortsighted; they just wanted to secede ... Show more content on

The Jeffersonian tale claims that the nation formed a successful republic, only to fail at the hands of
the Federalists led by Alexander Hamilton. The other interpretation suggests that the Federalist leaders
created an inclusive government which was marred by the ideologies of Jefferson and his associates.
To this day, the debate between the dominant political parties remains, and can be traced to this
unsolvable conflict. Thankfully, the government was so overwhelmed by practical problems that these
issues did not cause a civil war.
Analysis
Ellis hopes to draw attention to the Founding Fathers as they really were: men of unique talent caught
in the crossfire of a revolution, but prone to mistakes as well as victory and success. Ellis not only
uncovers the truth of these seminal figures, but also reveals how their actions influenced the course of
history. Therefore, he focuses primarily on the players themselves, wishing to explore how their
relationships resonated through political changes.
Ellis wants the readers to realize the anxieties that these men actually felt at the time, when success
was not so assured. The chapters are linked both by Ellis pursuit of balanced truth and the

Challenges Faced By The World Today
CONCLUSION
Security is one of the major challenges that is being faced by the world today, as seen by continuous
revelations about breaches and incidents. On this note of insecurity and unpredictability, banking
industry is keen to redefine its approach to security thereby making an attempt to balance three critical
factors i.e. cost, innovation and risk. On parallel grounds, the domain of internal security is
undergoing drastic changes that mandates banking institutions to embrace new set of skills and
practices. Fraud can be categorized as a business risk it is like a sword of Damocles over a bank s
future. This must change for the good. The rapid pace with which the technology is changing, like the
recent explosion of cellular customers, is often entailed by necessary evils. An unstoppable tsunami is
engulfing banks with their employees and clients carrying their private electronic gadgets to work.
Similarly, applicants for BYOD has surged and simultaneously it accelerates the rate of security
threats, both ethically and technologically. Online banking proves to be the antithesis of all the
innovations of security professionals due to their identifiable features such as their mobility, richness
in data and susceptibility to theft.
Threat modelling and vulnerability assessment offers new insights that facilitates a more pro active
approach to security, provided organizations pay equal focus to the ever growing market of potential
threats. It should be acknowledged that

Many people who reside in Orange County, including the city of Irvine, find that their midsection is

Essay about The Constitutionality of Prayer
The question of the constitutionality of prayer in our public schools and public school system has been
an ongoing controversy for the past three decades. There is only one way to end the controversy, and it
is pertinent to the well being of our youth and our nation. We must keep church and state forever
separate. Any form of prayer in the public school system is an explicit violation of the first
amendment, is coercive, and harmful to not only our nations children, but to the nation itself. The
question of prayer in school should never have even been a question, and the fact that it remains three

Or, take it from Thomas Jefferson. As he put it, the First Amendment serves in part to build a wall of
separation between church and state (Gaylor). Any way you put it it is clear to see that the First
Amendment was created to keep church and state separate, and allowing prayer in our public schools
is an obvious violation to the intentions of the creators of the Constitution. There is no possible way
one could misinterpret the intentions of our forefathers when they wrote the Bill of Rights. The First
Amendment forbids government funded religious activity. Public Schools are government funded, and
prayer is a religious activity. Therefore, according to our constitution, prayer has no place in our
public schools. This is not to say that a Christian child cannot pray to God, or a Muslim child cannot
pray to Allah, they just cannot do so during the time spent at school or during school functions. This
leaves the average elementary to high school student with a good 130 hours a week to do their
worshiping, and this does not even include weekends (Education). If the amendment itself is not clear
enough, maybe a little history is. No one can argue that our founders made America home in pursuit of
religious freedom. This is fact. America was created when our founding fathers fled religious
persecution from their own government. Since the beginning America has been a religious mosaic,
blending Christians with Catholics and

ABSTRACT
The aim of this report is to present the numerical analysis of human head response in a car accident in
the sagittal plane. This is achieved by making oneself aware of the dynamic loading that arises at the
instant accident occurs and the response of the human head to such loading. The response is usually
biomechanical, which can be studied in terms of head acceleration due to the impact caused by the

To predict head responses which cannot be estimated accurately by an experimental approach, several
FE head models, ranging from simple 2 dimension models to complex 3 dimension models have been
developed [4 5]. Just one predetermined specific condition can be analysed by each type of model.
Moreover, some of the adjustments made by researchers to simplify calculations which have many a
times, compromised the accuracy of the results are simplified material models (linear elasticity),
idealized geometries, or geometries of a 50th percentile male human head. It is suggested that the
brain s mechanical response is altered by the size of the head, the central fissure and sulcus, the
tentorium and Dura matter. Hence, these components have to be taken into account. The shape of the
skull, the composition of gray and white matter, geometry of other soft tissues and the volume of
cerebrospinal fluid vary greatly between even similar sized tissues, so no two persons have the exact
same response. Hence, a universally relevant head response has to be derived to facilitate the car
manufacturers to design counter measures.
With a specific end goal to fulfill the different safety and government security regulations, a
productive assessment and analysis strategy must be created. The most regularly utilized system for
assessing the inhabitant protection capacity of the specific vehicle is collision testing. It can either be

Electric Guitar Research Paper
With the increased pressure to go electric, many artists who played the guitar at the height of the Rock
n Roll movement switched their acoustic instruments to electric versions. Unlike bass guitars, which
can often be converted into electric basses, a purely electric guitar will not produce melodic sounds
without the help of an amplifier which carries the tune produced through an electronic current.
Electric guitars also allow the player to partially manipulate the sound coming to the amplifier through
equalizing, distorting, and other methods.
If you want to teach yourself the electric guitar, you are going to first have to choose which type you
want to play. Many versions exist and it is up to you to decide which one fits your style or how much
dedication you really want to put into your practice. If you want to learn using classical pedagogy,

The Detrimental Effects Of Rejection Of A Child
Rejection can be described as the feeling of crushing weight on your chest. It is an emotion that can be

with than others. (Rejection, 2015) The rejection of a child has the most detrimental effects, simply

the Surgeon General of the U.S. issued a report stating that rejection was a greater risk for adolescent
violence than drugs, poverty, or gang membership. Countless studies have demonstrated that even
mild rejections lead people to take out their aggression on innocent bystanders. School shootings,
violence against women, and fired workers going postal are other examples of the strong link between
rejection and aggression. (Winch, 2013) Children in the rejected aggressive group display high levels
of hostile and threatening behavior, physical aggression such as pushing and fighting, and disruptive
behavior such as breaking rules. (Newcomb, 1993) Michael Thompson, Ph.D. states, These kids are
not necessarily violent kids, but they are the kids who frequently lose control in school, act up
excessively, and wind up in the principal s office. (Social Groups and Cliques, n.d.) The need to be
one of the gang is stronger as children approach the teen years than at any other age. Children of all
ages need to feel that they fit in that they belong. (Wells, n.d.) They also may display a hostile
attribution bias or a tendency to assume that other children have hostile intentions in ambiguous
situations. Over longer periods, stability ratings for rejected children are higher than for the other
groups. In other words, children who are popular, neglected, or controversial when they are young

Reflection Paper On Lacrosse
I wake up, grab my lacrosse stick, ball, and grab the net and started to shoot. I play of my state
lacrosse team we have our first tournament this weekend and I don t wanna be the reason that we lose.
I was originally a D pole for my city team but my coach for state thought otherwise. I could run the
field in 20 seconds flat. At least that is what my coach said. I started out the day with a couple fakes
and spin moves nothing hard just the kind of stuff you need to know when you want to start. My sister
decides to come and play me in a 1v1 (me and my sister are competitive) I accept so we go to the
plains across the street I bring the net along with us. I just school her badly 10:0 she challenged me at
my own game 1st mistake.
We head back every day I have lacrosse practice at 3:30 until 5:30 that is the best practice ever
because all we do is get in the middle and get on top both 1v1 games against your own teammate. I
used to play D pole like I said but now it is easier to use a short pole. I go through my day of 3 hours
in the morning of practice at the plains across the street and hanging with friends doing more lacrosse.
Then it becomes 3 and I have to leave for lacrosse so I grab my gear bag and longer leaving my long
pole there.
We reach the area of where I practice I m usually the first one there but everyone is ready and geared
up and warming up I was late for the first time in my life my dad is so mad. Get out there Jax you re
late I forgot that practice was early today it started at 2. My heart sank I was late so I wind sprint out
of the car and all I hear is there s Jax. Coach is saying I m late so as quick as I can I strap up my
helmet chest and shoulder pads and gloves and ran faster than I ever have before out there. Today is
the day the first day of the tournament all these teams look like the would be tough but who knows
except for the team itself. The thing about state tournaments is that the teams that you played and beat
could have gotten a whole lot better so with a lacrosse state tournament you have to stay of your game
and get better no matter if you re a starter and always will be a starter. As we head to our group of
tents I don t see anyone even if they are the starters there are

Essay on Analysis of Killings by Andre Dubus
The major theme of Andre Dubus Killing,s is how far someone would go for the person they love. It is
important to note the title of the story is killings and not killers, for the reasoning that the story does
not just focus on two deaths or two murderers but rather the death of marriage, friendship, youth, and
overall, trust.
Richard Strout was married to Mary Ann, who was most likely fed up with his hot temperedness that
always seemed to get him into fist fights. She separated from her husband and while they were going
through the process of divorce, she began a new relationship with Frank Fowler, killing all hope of
reconciling her marriage with Strout. In return Strout became enraged not only in losing his wife, but
their sons, who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Know what he ll do? Five at the most (Dubus 97). Not being able to move on and receive closure and
feeling as if the law had failed to execute justice, Fowler is pushed not only by his wife s prodding but
also his love for his son to seek his own version of justice; which is ultimately revenge.
With the help of his best friend Trottier, Fowler was able to plan out a seemingly flawless murder.
Both men tend to work late nights; Trottier was a bartender, so Fowler meeting with him after hours
was an easy alibi. The hardest part was getting Strout to a secluded place, which they were able to do
by conning him at first, saying they had bought him a ticket and wanted him out of their lives so that
everyone could move on stating, It s the trial. We can t go through that, my wife and me. You re
leaving. We ve got you a ticket. (Dubus 105) After leaving Strout s car at an apartment building in
Boston, they lead Strout to a pre dug hole in a wooded area where Fowler kills him. The gun kicked in
Matt s hand, and the explosion of the shot surrounded him...Richard Strout, squirming on his belly
pushed himself towards the woods. Then Matt went to him and shot him once in the back of the head
(106).
In this story, Dubus encourages the reader to decide the moral standing and responsibility of each man
and the basic instinct to protect ones family. At the end of the story, Matt tells Ruth what happened,
but it is clear that he feels deep

Tb Vaccine Essay
Treatments
There is a TB vaccine (bacilli calmette guerin, or BCG) that is used in many countries to prevent TB.
BCG is almost never used in the U.S., since the risk of getting TB is low. The vaccine is not very
effective in adults and can cause a false positive tuberculin skin test, making it very difficult to use the
tuberculin skin test to check people for TB. The vaccine is recommended for infants in parts of the
world where TB is common.
Treatment for TB is often a success, but it is a long process. It usually takes 6 to 9 months to treat TB.
In some cases, it can take up to 2 years. Active TB is treated with a combination of antibiotics
typically prescribed for 6 months; if, at that point, the TB is still active, the treatment is extended for a
period consisting of two to three months to a full year of treatment. If the TB bacteria are resistant to
the most commonly prescribed antibiotics known as multidrug resistant TB, then treatment may be
extended to a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Isoniazid is no different with a bioavailability of approximately 90%. It is important to note however
that this medication is most effective when taken on an empty stomach as food limits the extent of
absorption. When taken as prescribed this medication becomes readily available in all body fluids,
these include: CSF, pleural and ascetic fluids, tissues, organs, saliva, sputum, and feces (Woo
Robinson, 2015, p. 761).
Dosing of this medication for active tuberculosis is either by mouth or intramuscular injection and
should be given as 300mg/day (Wilson, Shannon, Sheilds, 2009). Alternatively, this medication may
be given 2 3 times weekly at a dose of 15mg/kg (up to 900mg) (Woo Robinson, 2015). As stated
previously, this medication should be given on an empty stomach (1 hour before or 2 hours after
eating). In situations where this medication causes severe GI upset, it may be taken with

Menstruation History
During menstruation throughout history, the progression of menstrual products has subjugated women
to unimaginable methods. In ancient Egypt, women used softened papyrus tampons, while the Greeks
utilized lint wrapped around small pieces of wood, and the Romans wore pads and tampons made of
soft wool. Considered impure in the Jewish culture during biblical times, the proclivity of physically
separating women from men during menstruation is habitual, as well as any object they touched or sat
on. These fads were perpetuated in Europe in the 1800s. With a more natural approach, women during
this period allowed their menstruation to bleed into their clothing. Creatively, women used homemade
pads in America, during the 1900s, similar to baby diapers: Others wore menstrual pad belts secured
by suspenders. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The three major organic companies that sell natural menstrual products are GladRags, Natracare, and
Organic Essentials. On the go, these small companies offer disposable cotton pads and organic
tampons. While others may consider as taboo, reusable alternatives are made of Cloth, sponge or
menstrual cup; safer for the environment and the consumer. Many of these non commercialized
menstrual products do not contain dioxin or pesticides, unfortunately, they vary in price as well as
accessibility, from limited marketing and awareness. Ruminating the options by consumers, cultural
and economic factors play a role. For over a decade, commercialized products have conveniently been
available through the media and advertising. Even more important to note, natural feminine hygiene
products are available and considered a safer approach to menstruation. Preserving the health of the
female anatomy should be considered, for the benefit of future

Analysis Of Tea Cake In Their Eyes Were Watching God
In Their Eyes Were Watching God, Tea Cake proves to be affectionate but reckless. Together these
traits create a flawed character. Janie has already developed an increasing proud sense of self, but Tea
Cake furthers her spiritual growth and fulfillment. Instead of stifling her voice he supports it, allowing
her to be herself in a relationship, opening her eyes to new experiences and life skills. Tea Cake s
character and personality cause Janie to learn things about herself she never knew in her marriages to
Logan nor Joe. As said in the novel, So the very next morning Janie got ready to pick beans along with
Tea Cake. There was a suppressed murmur when she picked up a basket and went to work... But all
day long the romping and playing they carried on behind the boss s back made her popular right away.
It got the whole field to playing off and on. Then Tea Cake would help get supper afterwards (Hurston
157). This proves that Tea Cake is affectionate by giving Janie the choice/option of working beside
him, he doesn t instruct her to do so, showing that he really cares about her overall happiness. This is
something different for Janie because throughout her previous marriages she is made to do things.
This gives Janie a sense of equality and independence. However, Tea Cake is reckless as well, in the
novel, it states, He took it up and looked at it of curiosity and put it in his pocket to count it while he
was out finding some fish to fry. When he found out how much

The System Of Dr. Tarr And Prof
The reason I chose The System of Dr. Tarr And Prof. Fether, Ligeia, and The Murders in the Rue
Morgue, is because the stories all have similar themes. The theme in The System of Dr. Tarr and Prof.
Fether is to never trust everybody right away because they might not be who they say they are. The
theme for Ligeia is the different versions of reality. The main theme for The Murders in the Rue
Morgue is the main character was amazed at a lot of things in life. I chose The System of Dr. Tarr and
Prof. Fether because the story had an amazing plot and theme. The story had a theme that you should
not trust everyone you meet right away. The man who went to visit the insane asylum, was too
trustworthy and trusted Monsieur Maillard too soon. He believed

  • 2. Why I Want To Be A Nhs Essay We are all born originals why is it so many of us die copies? This quote by Edward Young is an anecdote I often ponder. More and more, I find myself trying to form to society ideals, and notice my unique personality being shoved under the rug, but each time I think about this phrase, I become my true self a little more. The National Honor Society is a program for not only exceptional students, but also extraordinary people. I, Zoë, am a unique individual and my inimitable assets are a perfect for this club full of opportunities to put these skills to use. I should be indicted into NHS because I have met all the requirements and possess qualities of characteristics which separate me from ordinary students. Although being a member of NHS isn t purely academic, my commitment to my grades should be noted. My freshman year I was part of the International Baccalaureate program, and succeeded in getting A s in both of my honors classes every semester. I am most definitely not a quitter, but after a trial year, I realized that IB was not the place for me because I had the desire to become more active in school, join the swim team, and focus on my job. • 3. Postmodernism And Modernism Successfully marketing a product is a fundamental component in remaining competitive in the vicious dog eat dog world of business. The rise of postmodernism in society redefined what successful and adaptive marketing looks like and consequently it gave branding a whole new meaning and significance. Postmodernism means different things to different disciplines, yet the general consensus is that it is a contemporary cultural phenomenon (Brown 1996). The postmodern brand model enabled brands to have an identity that connects with its customers by presenting brands in an anthropological view via customer engagement promotions. The gradual domination of social media in western society enables organizations to market their brands to exist beyond ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hyperreality is one of the most apparent features in all forms of advertising. Common examples of hyperreality advertising include beauty promotions that were touched up with photoshop, products that claim to have outrageous effects (e.g. Redbull gives you wings ), and it is also sold in fantasy video games (League of Legends, Street Fighter, Assassins Creed, etc.). Furthermore, advertising is often clandestinely placed in sporting video games because it s integrated in its culture (adverts on the boards in NHL games, billboards in racing games, etc.) (Kaplan and Haenlein 2009, 565). Hyperreality exists in reality television shows such as Big Brother and Survivor , the participants of the show are aware that they are being perpetually recorded and it alters their regular behavior and mannerisms. Social network communities further perpetuate the existence of hyperreality online as there is over a combined one billion users between just Facebook and Twitter alone. These social networks are then used to communicate with its customers and concurrently encourage consumers to share their brand experiences with each other. Anti foundationalism is the final trait being reviewed, in a marketing context it is about brands and/or advertisementss going against the grain of societal norms. Geico is an example of how anti foundationalism can be enforced successful for a brand s image. Geico, a company that sells car insurance, managed to make it s brand ... The crow is a kind of bird. The crow is supposed to fly in the sky or on the branch of tree. Unfortunately, on page 133, the cars on the road ran over the crow. The crow shouldn t be on the road. Davy was also in big trouble because of a wrong move, which was murdering Finch and Basca. On page 133, Swede called crow as trash when they were approaching the crow. It s reasonable for the 2 guys to ask for mercy. Although they break into Davy s house, they had reasons to do so. On page 84, Stanley testified, Davy broke the windows and taillights of Israel s car, in which the boy took inordinate pride. Davy broke Israel s car in order to make them break them into his house and kill them. The narrator described it as He d issued them an invitation. In addition, there was no evidence said that Finch and Basca were going to hurt the Lands. Although they had offended the laws, they didn t deserve to die. These facts made people think that Davy was a murderer who found killing funny. What s more, Basca was not a normal boy. On page 70, Tommy Basca s second mother said, He was so easy to have. Oh, he was sweet . On page 71, the narrator admitted, Tommy Basca was an idiot, but he wasn t purebred evil and He tagged after Israel Finch because Israel Finch liked having a disciple and no one else was witless enough to want the job. Process Experiential Emotion Focused Therapy Process Experiential Emotion Focused Therapy (PEEFT) is an approach used to improve the regulation, expression, acceptance, integration and transformation of emotional experiences. Emotions govern the way we interact with the world around us and serve as the primary driver of decision making, allowing us to identify potential risk and understanding personal needs and desires. The process of Emotion Focused therapy (EFT) is essentially to improve overall emotional intelligence by working with the clients current emotional experiences, understanding maladaptive emotional scheme that may be preventing the clients personal growth and impeding on their everyday life and experiencing. The EFT therapist guides the client through a process of awareness and expression of emotions that can then be understood, reflected upon, integrated and transformed to add meaning to their personal experiences. This review focuses on two 10 segments extracted from a counselling session based primarily on the use of the intentional Emotion Focused Therapy, counselling interventions. The first transcript models a more constructive use of the EFT approach, whereas the second segment highlights a less effective use of the EFT interventions, which can be seen in the client s storytelling and the stagnation in the session during the second segment. The client in this session presented with a desire to become more of an authority figure in various aspects of his life. His previous experiences working ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Theory Of Batteries And Electrochemical Cells In class I was introduced to the concepts of batteries and electrochemical cells. I am really interested in batteries and how they work and what goes into making a battery. I was inspired to this experiment mostly because I want to study electrical engineering in university and I wanted to find out the chemistry behind the production of the electrical energy in batteries. During my reading, I found out that the first battery was actually invented by Italian physicist Count Alessandro Volta and was demonstrated to Napoleon Bonaparte in 1801. Constructed from alternating discs of zinc and copper wit pieces of cardboard soaked in brine between the metals, this was the first battery that produced a reliable steady current of electricity. The reason why this works is because, as I found out, batteries use the process of redox reactions to create voltage. I also found out that the difference in reactivity leads to the voltage that will be produced. Voltage is a measure of the amount of energy which each coulomb of electrons can carry. The more readily a species loses electrons, the bigger the build of potential energy and the higher the voltage. The reason why transition metals are used is because they are very good conductors of electricity and they have seas of electrons so electrons can travel within them fairly easily. There is a table that provides the results of experiments where these various compartments are connected to a hydrogen electrode. It is known as the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The setting makes the story gloomy at first, but when the sun comes out for one hour, it makes the reader hopeful, but the main character missed the sun. That makes the reader s mood depressed and sad. • 8. Sociological Imagination Summary In chapter one of The Sociological Imagination, C. Wright Mills writes, Seldom aware of the intricate connection between the patterns of their own lives and the course of world history, ordinary people do not usually know what this connection means for the kinds of people they are becoming and for the kinds of history making in which they might take part (Mills). Essentially, Mills is saying that people have tunnel vision when they do not use the sociological imagination, which is the awareness of the connection between an individual s experience and the history of society. We tend to only focus on what is directly affecting us while staying unaware of what is affecting our entire society. We do not see that all of our significant life events are merely products of history. I find value in Mills ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They wanted to raise a family and give their children a better life, so they immigrated to America. Now, using what Mills calls the sociological imagination, it becomes clear that my parents actually left the Philippines due to a cultural aspect affecting their country and society. Basically, in the Filipino culture, families take care of their elders so there are few nursing homes in the country. My mother is a physical therapist who works in nursing homes, so she would not have had a job in the Philippines. In America, however, there are plenty of nursing homes meaning more working opportunities for my mother, thus my parents immigrated to America. Rosen uses direct quotes from the judges to identify how judges have to lean away from certain beliefs and lean towards other beliefs for the sake of keeping the country free and under control. In each section, Rosen compares two justices and obviously favors one over the other. But, as the author, he does recognize the flaws in his view, and the pros in the opposite view. Rosen clearly favors justices who promote harmony in the court and create rulings with unanimous decisions. But, Rosen will always comment on something positive about a judge he does not favor, and will comment on something negative on the justice he does favor, balancing himself out. Another key factor that informs the reader about how the law came about to be how it is today is by judicial temperament. Rosen uses this as a key point while comparing the justices. Judicial Temperament describes the judge s general attitude towards the law, and other judges. He states, If the pairings of judicial temperaments in this book suggest anything, it is that courting attention and partisan approval in the short term is no guarantee of judicial respect in the long term (Rosen). At the beginning of each day, our bodies awake like clockwork in conjunction with the rising sun. Then, at day s end, they begin to wind down into sleep until the morning. While there certainly may be plenty of mysteries revolving sleep that have yet to been unraveled, from all the way up until now and for centuries to come, it is evident that sleep should hold priority in the schedules of all people. Yet, despite all of this being true, sleep is consistently being taken for granted. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Day by day, if one were to consistently voluntarily restrict their sleeping hours, he or she would gradually build up what is referred to as sleep debt . Sleep debt defines the cumulative effect of reduced sleep hours. (Dinges et al., 1997) The more and more the sleep debt grows from not getting a single good night s rest, the more moody, irritable, and incoherent a person can get. While there are no limits to the extent of how moody, irritable, and incoherent someone can become, there gets to a certain point where a person s awareness of how tired or sleepy he or she is goes down. In addition to that, increased sleep debt has also resulted in a decrease in the responsiveness of cognitive brain functions. This phenomena is what is being described and what occurred in the introductory anecdote above. It was not because of the body genuinely feeling less tired and drowsy more so was it that the awareness of the hypothetical person to recognize how tired he/she was has gone down. In reality, it will take more than a few hours to fully recover from sleep deprivation. Based on a study focusing on the effects of cumulative sleep debt, a sample size of 16 adults were chosen and were forced to sleep approximately 5 hours each night, well under the recommended average. In the play, the author uses minimal props and scenery as well as including a main character known as the Stage Manager that has the ability to break the fourth wall, allowing him to talk to the audience. This factor of talking to the audience is a major component of making the public a part of the town. Tragedies, Much Ado About Nothing is a comedy, which uplifts spirits as it circles the lives of Hero, Claudio, Beatrice, Don John, and Benedick. Love, trickery, and deception are motifs used to develop a theme relatable to years later. Using love as a basis tricks are placed everywhere in the Italian town of Messina to spark the interest of two or to ruin the love. In Much ado About Nothing, William Shakespeare s explores the motif of deception, and how nothing is as it seems, connected to the human nature for people of love, deception is neither always good or always detrimental, it is how it is portrayed. Deception, at first glance, appears as a word usually in a negative tone, but in times the act of deception is used to benefit the characters lives. Nevertheless, Shakespeare allowed for deception to be played with when the characters never expected it. In of Much Ado About Nothing, deception is used in the way to help others. As an example, in Act 2 Scene 1 a ball took place where all the men and women were to dress in guises. Don Pedro, the prince, agreed to help Claudio woo Hero over so Claudio could no longer say he is a bachelor. This is an act of deception used in the positive effect. The Western Media Democratic Promotion Against The East The 2010 airing of the Nobel Peace Prize awards ceremony was met with controversy from numerous ends of the world, as its recipient was the jailed Chinese activist Liu Xiaobo. It has been argued by the Chinese government and outlets that this event is a product of the media and by doing so critiques the broadcast as a representation of western imperialism and as such highlights the limits of the liberal political press model. The communist party ran newspaper Global Times attacked the broadcast as a political tool of Western interests , and whether agreeing or not with this accusation, it is easy to understand why such a conclusion can be made. This case can be analysed in some ways as a case of the western media democratic promotion against the east. The idea of democratic supremacy can be argued thoroughly when deliberated through a political ideological perspective. The Nobel committee noted that the Chinese government had labelled Liu Xaiobo as a criminal and saw his prize as provocative to their judgment and rule. Though the program places itself in direct opposition to this, with Thorbjørn Jagland stating in his speech that it is one of the most important decision in the peace prizes history . The story is about this girl, who gets her heart broken over and over again, by boys as well as girls (she is bisexual). It s not really a problem for her, because she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Maybe it s simply a whole different world! She also uses many symbols, especially to express how love feels to the main character. The heart was dusty and tarnished and utterly empty . This shows the reader just how heart broken she was. Her heart hasn t felt real love in a long time, so it is dusty. It has been abused many times, so it is tarnished. And because of all this, it leaves her with nothing more than an empty space. Maybe the island that she says she went to for a year isn t really an island that she actually went to either. Maybe she just closed herself down mentally, unable to deal with the world with a broken heart. That could have felt to other people, as if she was actually away on an island. What seems to be pulling this story towards science fiction the most however, seems to be the fact that even though it s all clearly one big metaphor for getting your heart broken and mending it again, it s nowhere close to how reality is. Heartbreaks come in all shapes and sizes. But in real life you can t just go well, tough luck, she wasn t the one for me, so I m not going to be sad about it . Healing a broken heart takes time in the real, non fictional world. Just changing it like it s nothing, that s the real science fiction in the story. Individualism Vs Society, A Doll s House Individualism vs Society, A Doll s House Struggle In the 19th century Victorian society, individuals were expected to follow strict generalized standards for what is considered, acceptable conduct. With his play, A Doll s House , Ibsen captures conflicts, especially for women, to abide by the standards placed by society. While Nora the main character at first seems to fulfil her role as the perfect mother and wife, she is eventually divided between her obligations as a woman, and her need to express her true self. On the other hand, Nora s husband Torvald, strictly abides by what society has deemed honorable and is only worried about the outside perception of himself. This relentless need to maintain a façade impedes him to accept Nora s rebellious actions; and fears that her actions will turn their family into outcasts of society. Ibsen portrays, through several characters in the play A Doll s House , the struggle of individuals to express their original true self in a repressive Victorian society, while at the same time fulfill their societal expectations. Sunset Boulevard directed by Billy Wilder in 1950 is based on how Norma Desmond, a huge Hollywood star, deals with her fall from fame. The film explores the fantasy world in which Norma is living in and the complex relationship between her and small time writer Joe Gillis, which leads to his death. Sunset Boulevard is seen as lifting the face of the Hollywood Studio System to reveal the truth behind the organisation. During the time the film was released in the 1950s and 60s, audiences started to see the demise of Hollywood as cinema going began to decline and the fierce competition of television almost proved too much for the well established system. The film s main focus largely represents the Hollywood star system to which Norma Desmond is a victim of. The film particularly highlights the fantasy world in which Norma lives in, the world where she is the greatest star (Norma Desmond, Sunset Boulevard, 1950). Sunset Boulevard steps into Norma s mixed up world where hundreds of photos of herself clutter her crumbling mansion and where she watches herself on screen on a weekly basis. The crumbling and deteriorating mansion could be seen as a metaphor for Norma s fall from stardom, the collapse of her career. The focus of Norma s fame is a recurring theme throughout the film that is referenced in order to emphasise the extent to which fame has affected Norma and her life. When Norma decides to talk to Cecil DeMille about her script the young security guard questions her by saying Norma, who? as the younger generation are unlikely to have heard of the actress. This further emphasises the harsh reality of fame and in particular, Hollywood, as new actors and actresses are constantly churned out to appeal to the audiences needs for the new Hollywood star . People hadn t come to Texas to become part of the British Empire; most were particularly incensed by the British insistence on emancipation of the slaves; responding to public sentiment, the Texas Senate demanded that President Houston give them a full accounting of his dealings with Great Britain . Before annexation, The Republic of Texas was a sovereign nation that existed for nearly ten years. The annexation process was proposed by John Tyler. Unfortunately, President Martin Van Buren struck down the annexation of Texas out of fear that this would expand slave territory and ensue war with Mexico. The Treaty of Annexation, Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, Mexican American War and Joint Resolution of Congress all impacted the annexation process. In June of 1844, the United States Senate considered a treaty which had been submitted for ratification; this treaty was the Treaty of Annexation. The purpose of this treaty was designed to bring The Republic of Texas into United States of America as one of its states. This proposal was defeated in the United States Senate. A paraphilia is a condition in which a person s sexual arousal and gratification depend on fantasizing about and engaging in sexual behavior that is atypical and extreme. I will go through multiple types of Paraphilias and explain what they are, how they affect the public and my view towards the philia. To begin, the most common paraphilia is Fetishism. This is the most severe philia in my opinion and it holds great consequences. One can be charged with numerous CSC charges, spend life on the sex offenders list, go to prison for many years, or even be killed because they are a pedophile. Today, there are roughly 400,000 registered sex offenders in the united states (80 100,000 are unregistered). And 89% of child sexual assault cases involve people known to the child. My opinion is that these people need to be locked up for max sentences according to the law, not life in prison as some would want. These people commit horrible crimes to young children and need to pay for the physical and emotional damage that has left children scarred for life. The most disturbing of them all would have to be Necrophilia. This is the sexual attraction to dead human bodies. Things like touching and having sex with the bodies of the deceased are examples. There are only a dozen or so documented cases; However, it happens more than we would think. Having intercoarse with dead human bodies is a crime in most countries and the punishment in the United States is a felony serving no more than five years in prison. There is no tourism to speak of and even people in the area have only a vague notion of the importance that their small town once held. In fact, in the fields to the east of the city was fought a battle that probably decided the direction of European (and thus Western) Civilization. The battle fought there was not just a clash of armies; it was a collision between religions, a testing ground for new tactics and a stage for larger than life personalities. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As Pappenheim s defeated formations fell back, the rest of the Imperial cavalry attacked the Saxon army holding Gustavus left flank. The inexperienced (but apparently well dressed) Saxon infantry, which was formed into Tercios like their Catholic opponents were routed and fled the field in panic. Over 3000 of them were cut down by pursuing cavalry. The rout of the Saxons was a massive problem for Gustavus. This is where his adaptation of the linear formation saved him. In warfare such as this, the flanks are everything. If your flank is turned then your army must flee in order to avoid destruction. The Swedes, in their long lines of infantry, were able to pull their expose flank back faster than the slow moving Imperial Tercios (which had, at this point, not been involved in the attacks) were able to move around it. In modern terms, Adolphus refused his flank to the enemy. After securing his battered left flank, Gustavus struck from his right with his cavalry and his well disciplined infantry. It is worth mentioning the high level of training that the Swedish musketeers. They were trained to load and fire at a much higher rate than other musketeers of the time. The Swedes were much more dependent on firepower than other armies of the time and Gustavus attack tore the Imperial Tercios apart with musket and cannon fire. Sometime after the Swedish counterattack, Gustavus infantry captured most of the Catholic artillery pieces and because the Swedes were cross trained in other disciplines, they were able to add the weight of the captured cannons to their own attack. This added firepower was the last straw for the Catholic forces. They broke and ran for their lives. Thousands were cut down or captured in the ensuing pursuit (Rickard, 2000). • 41. The Detrimental Effects Of Rejection Of A Child Rejection can be described as the feeling of crushing weight on your chest. It is an emotion that can be very difficult to recover from, and one may experience rejection from one s family of origin, a friend, or a romantic partner. Rejection might be experienced on a large scale or in small ways in everyday life. While rejection is typically a part of life, some types of rejection may be more difficult to cope with than others. (Rejection, 2015) The rejection of a child has the most detrimental effects, simply because they grow up their whole life with the feeling of being unwanted. We can relive and re experience social pain more vividly than we can physical pain, hence why it s so much worse for a child. A memory of an accident or fall alone ... In addition to causing mental health problems, bullying and social isolation can increase the likelihood a child will get poor grades, drop out of school, or develop substance abuse problems, the researchers say. (Nixon, 2010) The impact acceptance by peers during the adolescent years tends to relate to common negative behaviors. (Wells, n.d.) Rejection creates surges of anger and aggression. In 2001, the Surgeon General of the U.S. issued a report stating that rejection was a greater risk for adolescent violence than drugs, poverty, or gang membership. Countless studies have demonstrated that even mild rejections lead people to take out their aggression on innocent bystanders. School shootings, violence against women, and fired workers going postal are other examples of the strong link between rejection and aggression. (Winch, 2013) Children in the rejected aggressive group display high levels of hostile and threatening behavior, physical aggression such as pushing and fighting, and disruptive behavior such as breaking rules. (Newcomb, 1993) Michael Thompson, Ph.D. states, These kids are not necessarily violent kids, but they are the kids who frequently lose control in school, act up excessively, and wind up in the principal s office. (Social Groups and Cliques, n.d.) The need to be one of the gang is stronger as children approach the teen years than at any other age. Children of all ages need to feel that they fit in that they belong. (Wells, n.d.) They also may display a hostile attribution bias or a tendency to assume that other children have hostile intentions in ambiguous situations. Over longer periods, stability ratings for rejected children are higher than for the other groups. • 42. Reflection Paper On Lacrosse I wake up, grab my lacrosse stick, ball, and grab the net and started to shoot. I play of my state lacrosse team we have our first tournament this weekend and I don t wanna be the reason that we lose. I was originally a D pole for my city team but my coach for state thought otherwise. I could run the field in 20 seconds flat. At least that is what my coach said. I started out the day with a couple fakes and spin moves nothing hard just the kind of stuff you need to know when you want to start. My sister decides to come and play me in a 1v1 (me and my sister are competitive) I accept so we go to the plains across the street I bring the net along with us. I just school her badly 10:0 she challenged me at my own game 1st mistake. We head back every day I have lacrosse practice at 3:30 until 5:30 that is the best practice ever because all we do is get in the middle and get on top both 1v1 games against your own teammate. I used to play D pole like I said but now it is easier to use a short pole. I go through my day of 3 hours in the morning of practice at the plains across the street and hanging with friends doing more lacrosse. Then it becomes 3 and I have to leave for lacrosse so I grab my gear bag and longer leaving my long pole there. We reach the area of where I practice I m usually the first one there but everyone is ready and geared up and warming up I was late for the first time in my life my dad is so mad. Get out there Jax you re late I forgot that practice was early today it started at 2. My heart sank I was late so I wind sprint out of the car and all I hear is there s Jax. Coach is saying I m late so as quick as I can I strap up my helmet chest and shoulder pads and gloves and ran faster than I ever have before out there. Today is the day the first day of the tournament all these teams look like the would be tough but who knows except for the team itself. The thing about state tournaments is that the teams that you played and beat could have gotten a whole lot better so with a lacrosse state tournament you have to stay of your game and get better no matter if you re a starter and always will be a starter. • 43. Essay on Analysis of Killings by Andre Dubus The major theme of Andre Dubus Killing,s is how far someone would go for the person they love. It is important to note the title of the story is killings and not killers, for the reasoning that the story does not just focus on two deaths or two murderers but rather the death of marriage, friendship, youth, and overall, trust. Richard Strout was married to Mary Ann, who was most likely fed up with his hot temperedness that always seemed to get him into fist fights. She separated from her husband and while they were going through the process of divorce, she began a new relationship with Frank Fowler, killing all hope of reconciling her marriage with Strout. Not being able to move on and receive closure and feeling as if the law had failed to execute justice, Fowler is pushed not only by his wife s prodding but also his love for his son to seek his own version of justice; which is ultimately revenge. With the help of his best friend Trottier, Fowler was able to plan out a seemingly flawless murder. Both men tend to work late nights; Trottier was a bartender, so Fowler meeting with him after hours was an easy alibi. The hardest part was getting Strout to a secluded place, which they were able to do by conning him at first, saying they had bought him a ticket and wanted him out of their lives so that everyone could move on stating, It s the trial. We can t go through that, my wife and me. You re leaving. We ve got you a ticket. (Dubus 105) After leaving Strout s car at an apartment building in Boston, they lead Strout to a pre dug hole in a wooded area where Fowler kills him. The gun kicked in Matt s hand, and the explosion of the shot surrounded him...Richard Strout, squirming on his belly pushed himself towards the woods. Then Matt went to him and shot him once in the back of the head (106). In this story, Dubus encourages the reader to decide the moral standing and responsibility of each man and the basic instinct to protect ones family. • 44. Tb Vaccine Essay Treatments There is a TB vaccine (bacilli calmette guerin, or BCG) that is used in many countries to prevent TB. BCG is almost never used in the U.S., since the risk of getting TB is low. The vaccine is not very effective in adults and can cause a false positive tuberculin skin test, making it very difficult to use the tuberculin skin test to check people for TB. The vaccine is recommended for infants in parts of the world where TB is common. Treatment for TB is often a success, but it is a long process. It usually takes 6 to 9 months to treat TB. In some cases, it can take up to 2 years. Active TB is treated with a combination of antibiotics typically prescribed for 6 months; if, at that point, the TB is still active, the treatment is extended for a period consisting of two to three months to a full year of treatment. In ancient Egypt, women used softened papyrus tampons, while the Greeks utilized lint wrapped around small pieces of wood, and the Romans wore pads and tampons made of soft wool. Considered impure in the Jewish culture during biblical times, the proclivity of physically separating women from men during menstruation is habitual, as well as any object they touched or sat on. These fads were perpetuated in Europe in the 1800s. With a more natural approach, women during this period allowed their menstruation to bleed into their clothing. • 46. Analysis Of Tea Cake In Their Eyes Were Watching God In Their Eyes Were Watching God, Tea Cake proves to be affectionate but reckless. Together these traits create a flawed character. Janie has already developed an increasing proud sense of self, but Tea Cake furthers her spiritual growth and fulfillment. Instead of stifling her voice he supports it, allowing her to be herself in a relationship, opening her eyes to new experiences and life skills. Tea Cake s character and personality cause Janie to learn things about herself she never knew in her marriages to Logan nor Joe. As said in the novel, So the very next morning Janie got ready to pick beans along with Tea Cake. There was a suppressed murmur when she picked up a basket and went to work... But all day long the romping and playing they carried on behind the boss s back made her popular right away. It got the whole field to playing off and on. Then Tea Cake would help get supper afterwards (Hurston 157). This proves that Tea Cake is affectionate by giving Janie the choice/option of working beside him, he doesn t instruct her to do so, showing that he really cares about her overall happiness. This is something different for Janie because throughout her previous marriages she is made to do things. This gives Janie a sense of equality and independence. However, Tea Cake is reckless as well, in the novel, it states, He took it up and looked at it of curiosity and put it in his pocket to count it while he was out finding some fish to fry.
