Carl Sauer Research Paper
Carl Sauer was an American geographer from the United States who lived from 1889 to 1975. He had
a German heritage, being the son of two German immigrants. After attending college at Wesleyan
University, he attained his PhD at the University of Chicago. After establishing himself in the world of
geography, he became a geography professor at the University of Michigan and then later on at the
University of California, Berkeley. He had an extremely decorated career. He was awarded the
Honorary Fellowship Award in 1935 and was also awarded the Daly Medal in 1940, both by the

Eldorado Research Paper
With 35 years of experience, Pastry Chef Nathan Strausser is leading one of Shreveport s best kept
secret Eldorado Resort Casino s bakery.
The resort casino recently celebrated their 10th year anniversary but the bakery has only been
operational for seven years and Strausser has been there from the beginning.
When the Carano s that own the Eldorado decided to build a bakery, do all their own pastries here, in
house from scratch, that s when they called me up. I was in Houston at the time and moved here and
did the design, layout, equipment and all that stuff and I ve been here ever since said Strausser.
Prior to coming to Eldorado, Strausser had his fair share of education and experience working
throughout the United States.

Weighing everything out and all those measurements, everything has to be exact from start to finish.
Taking those raw ingredients, combining them and then you have this beautiful fancy dessert. The
creativity and artistry that comes along with pastries, you don t necessarily have in cooking. You can
get creative in cooking with food but not the same type of creativity as you can when you re working
with chocolate or sugar and everything else. That s the real drive and motivator he said.
Eldorado Resort Casino Shreveport is now a part of the Eldorado Resorts entity and Strausser is
excited about what the future holds. He s working with their corporate offices and other properties to
design and equip a new bakery that they are putting in at another property.
They want to have the same quality pastries from donuts to French pastries that we have here. That s
exciting for me to be working with them and having the chance to make kind of the corporate standard
for pastries he said.
Strausser believes in staying true to old school baking and teaches that to his neophytes in the baking

The Stoning Of Soraya M Essay
The title of the film The Stoning of Soraya M. is a prelude to the story. The title is completely relevant
to the practice of a country where stoning is seen as simply carrying out the law. The movie is set in
Iran, the year is 1986, the landscape is cold and gloomy. There are no manicured lawns or cookie
cutter houses, lining the streets with painted pavements. No, here we see bare dirt and rocks. It seems
barren and dry with a few trees. A woman covered with a Burqa is walking among the desolate streets.
The sound of a sputtering car pervades the cold stillness of the air, and we see the car stall at the
bottom of a hill. The woman with the Burqa is walking quickly down a rocky path. She seems to be
rushing, as we hear a sound that, much like the sputtering car breaks the silence of the landscape. A
black dog laps up a liquid from a torn cloth that was laying amongst the stones. The woman Shohreh
Aghdashloo, playing the role of Zahra yells as she chases away the dog from the black soaked cloth
that laid on the ground next to the serenity of a bubbling stream.
The woman cries as she picked up the remnants of the black cloth and we see bones. She takes them
lovingly in her hands as she washes them in the stream then, begins to dig what looks like a grave with
her bare hands. Her face is distraught, her hair is strewn all around her face and we realize that the
bones wrapped in the cloth was from a person. Zarah buried them in an unmarked grave near the only

Harlem Renaissance Essay
HARLEM RENAISSANCE
Throughout the history of African Americans, there have been important historical figures as well as
times. Revered and inspirational leaders and eras like, Martin Luther King and the Civil Rights
Movement, Nat Turner and the slave revolt, or Huey Newton and the Black Panther Party. One such
period that will always remain a significant part of black art and culture is the Harlem Renaissance. It
changed the meaning of art and poetry, as it was known then. Furthermore, the Harlem Renaissance
forever left a mark on the evolution of the black culture.
The Harlem Renaissance found its birth in the early 1920 s, in Harlem, New York. The period has
been thought of as one of African Americans greatest times in writing. ... Show more content on

Weldon s collection also included a young talented poet named Langston Hughes. Hughes had a love
for music, mainly the blues, which became a bridge between African American Literature and Folk
music.
Zora Neale Hurston, an anthropologist originally born in Florida, wrote the literary magazine Fire!
Although it lasted only one issue because of financial difficulties, Hughes, publisher Wallace
Thurman, and a number of other influential black artists had shared in making one of most recognized
Harlem Renaissance materials. Hurston later went on to publish Their Eyes were Watching God, in
1937, still keeping with the themes of strong black characters.
Music was another art form found in the Harlem Renaissance. It became the background, inspiration,
and the structure for the Harlem Renaissance literature. A style of music known as jazz represented the
new, urban, unpredictable lifestyle.
One of the greatest jazz singers of this time was Bessie Smith. She was a southerner and her
recordings were rare for black performers during her time. Duke Ellington, whose legendary band
played at the Cotton Club, personifies jazz. Charlie Parker and Billie Holiday would also record jazz
music form the 1930 s until the 1950 s.
Langston Hughes was one of the few poets that would combine both blues and jazz to create an
original art form. Claude McKay used the jazz atmosphere in his novel Home to Harlem. In this novel,

LENOVO COMPANY HISTORY
Lenovo Group Limited is today the largest information technology enterprise in China and the third
largest computer company in the world which is has an 8.6 per cent share of the PC market, after
Hewlett Packard at 15 per cent and Dell of the US at 16.8 per cent. During its first 20 years, Lenovo
evolved from a small distributor of imported computers into China s leading computer firm and in
2005, it purchased IBM s division. Lenovo has been the market leader for seven consecutive years,
commanding a 27 per cent share of the domestic PC market. It is also the market leader in the Asia

Yang also slashed PC prices by 30 per cent to just above cost. By 1995, Legend was the world s fifth
largest manufacturer of motherboards.
In 1996, Legend introduced its first laptop model and marketed PCs carrying Intel s Pentium chip in
China, undercutting prior generation competitor prices. Increased sales volumes brought down costs
dramatically, allowing Legend to make a profit while overtaking IBM as China s PC market leader
with 7 percent market share. In 1997, Legend signed an intellectual property agreement with
Microsoft and formed an alliance with IBM for the distribution of IBM software products in China,
allowing the firm to sell PCs with pre installed IBM software.
By 1999, Legend was China s PC market leader with 21.5 per cent share. In addition to exporting
Legend PCs, the firm continued to distribute foreign branded PCs in China, and the combined sales
made Legend the number one vendor of PCs in the region. Its 9.1 per cent market share for PCs
topped IBM s and Compaq s share in Asia.
The company was forced to change its English brand name from Legend to Lenovo in 2003, because
the former had been registered in various sectors in many countries, making it difficult to promote the
brand overseas. The new name, combining the Le of Legend with the universally recognised Latin
prefix signifying newness, is intended to build an innovative image for the group worldwide.

Dead Poets Society Conformity
What is conformity? To put it simply, it means to adhere to societal standards or norms . Adolescents
are particularly susceptible to such; when they begin to separate from their family and form their own
identity is when they also seek acceptance from their peers or live up to expectations from their
parental figures. Conforming to social norms help them redefine themselves while earning them
acceptance and approval. Fitting in simply feels good (Ulene 6). It means that by blending in and
mimicking the people around them makes teenagers feel good during the process of finding
themselves. Conformity to the social norms of an era is a common problem among teens. While
attempting to create their own identity, they are actively trying to fit ... Show more content on

The music video depicts a young child building a wall between himself and his peers. He is different
from the children who all look the same with their masks. He writes poetry, which he is punished for,
and simply does not fit in with his peers who actively submit themselves to their teachers All in all,
you were all just bricks in the wall (Pink Floyd, 8). They are fed into a machine that spits them out
looking exactly the same as each other, then fed into a meat grinder, symbolizing their own self
destruction. Of course, while actual students are not fed into a meat grinder, the symbolism is clear.
Students go through their school career being told what to do and how to act. This will program the
kids into acting in similar fashions, thereby contributing to the child s isolation. The symbolism
directly translates into teenagers today: being trained to do the same schoolwork the same way that
will get recycled later. Conformity in a school environment, which is where it is most common, is
arguably the most destructive as that is where the majority of teenagers spend their

Physical Causes And Complications Of Polycystic Ovary...
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a common hormonal disorder among women of reproductive
age and is caused by an imbalance of a woman s female sex hormones, resulting in higher levels of the
male hormone, androgen and have irregular periods.
The ovaries may develop numerous small collections of fluid (follicles) and fail to regularly release
eggs. This makes it difficult for women to get pregnant.
The presence of androgen may result in physical signs, such as excess facial and body hair (hirsutism),
occasionally severe acne and male pattern baldness.
Due to the hormone imbalance, a woman with PCOS is more prone to developing diabetes and heart
issues.
You should see a specialist, gynecologists if you are experiencing the following

An ultrasound to check the appearance of your ovaries and the thickness of the lining of your uterus.
PCOS treatment focuses on managing your individual concerns, such as infertility, hirsutism, acne or

cannot improve androgen levels and will not prevent pregnancy from occurring.

Healthcare Paper
1a. What model of healthcare does the US and your chosen country have (Japan)? Be very specific.
The United States has a healthcare system that is different from almost every country in the world. I
would call the United States health care system a hybrid type system. I would call our system a hybrid
because we fall into almost every type of category possible when it comes to health care; for instance,
people who are uninsured have to pay out of pocket when they want to see a doctor versus someone
who is insured and only has to pay a deductable. Many companies in the United States offer free
medical care for employers, or they make health care insurance fairly cheap to afford. Unlike many
countries our healthcare system is a little ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The person who utilizes this plan generally has to pay co pay, which the cost varies depending on the
type of plan you have. Many people like this type of plan because when you go to the doctor you don t
need to fill out claim forms. Members show a card when they go to the doctor or hospital. The
downfall to this plan is that you might have to wait longer in the waiting room. Another plan the
United States has is called point of service plan. This plan allows the members of the plan to refer
themselves to an outside plan and still be able to obtain some coverage. A doctor can also make a
referral out of the network and in turn the health care plan will pay for most if not the entire bill. A
preferred provider organization is another type of plan offered by the United States. Just like the
health maintenance organization, the preferred provider organization limits you to the number of
doctors you can see, but when you do find the right doctor most of your medical bills are covered. The
preferred provider organization requires you to choose a primary care physician in order to monitor
your health care. If you elect to go to a doctor who is not part of this plan, some of the medical
expenses are covered. I deem some people like this plan because if their primary care doctor is not
part of the plan, they don t have to change doctors. According to Health Insurance. Info An Exclusive

that, Emmitt tried to commit suicide to escape the abuse. One time, his mother, Maxine decided to
pack up her stuff and take the children to California to get away from the abuse but her husband then
decided to report the car stolen and caused the family to be held in jail until he picked them up.
Afterwards, he beat Maxine Perry all the way home. When Emmitt got to the age of 16, he decided to

Explain The Concept Of Sunk Cost Effect And Give A...
1. Please EXPLAIN the concept of sunk cost effect and give a personal example from your
experiences.
The sunk cost effect is when you feel like you have to get your money s worth no matter the
circumstance or negative outcomes is. The decision is based on future costs and benefits alone. It is an
investment that has already been made and cannot be recovered. Therefore, it is the hard money we
made and paid for to risk the chances of enjoying it or not.
I paid $350 to go on a family reunion in Norfolk, Virginia. When we got on the bus early that
morning, and fell all sleep quickly as we began to ride. Our first stop at the convenient store turned

A great example would be books. We read website and blog s and they advertise book s stating that it
gives detail s about how to make fast money and even retire in your 30 s. Therefore, convincing us to
buy the books just to purchase them and tells us thing s we already know. When we go to the book
store we notice a new book saying 100 ways to make a fortune within a month. Since we already paid
for the other book, we are easily convinced that may this could be the right book that actually gives us
real ways to become rich. So then we buy it and still feel like the information is not enough. We go
back to the bookstore and look again. Since we already lost a lot of money in the other book s we are
hoping that eventually we will find that right book with authentic information to finally know how to
make a fortune.

Innate Evil In Lord Of The Flies By William Golding
In the novel Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, a group of young British boys crash on a deserted
island. Throughout the story, there are three significant situations that demonstrate the theme stating
that civilization can mitigate but never wipe out the innate evil that exists within all human beings.
The three situations are the first pig hunt, the torture of Robert, and the attempted murder of Ralph.
First of all, the hunt of the very first piglet is a demonstration of the boys civil habits that are still
engraved in them from their home lives. Ralph, Jack, and Simon are on their hunt for their first pig on
the island when they come across squealing sounds that lead them to their prey. After they stare at the
piglet for a while, they have the chance to kill it but Jack decides against it. Jack didn t want to kill the
piglet because of the enormity of the knife descending and cutting into live flesh; because of the
unbearable blood (Golding 29). Jack attempts to cover up his reasoning by saying that he was thinking
of a good spot to stab the pig, though Ralph and Simon knew why he hadn t. The boys were still living
in a civil society on the island as they had a leader, rules, and they all got along for the most part, so
the thought of killing a pig was terrifying and unrealistic for Jack. Evidently, Jack is embarrassed in
front of the boys because he did not kill their chance at food. During a meeting later that day, the other
boys are asking about the pigs on the island, and Jack and Ralph are explaining why they couldn t kill
it. Jack interrupts Ralph, and tells the boys that the pig ran away Before I could kill it but next time
(Golding 31)! Jack says this in an aggressive tone as he is defending himself and proving he is more
than capable to get them meat. The boys have not yet adapted to a life filled with chaos and savagery,
so they are still hesitant about harming animals since they never had experienced anything like that
back in England. However, the boys attitudes towards bloodletting start to become more realistic as
their lives on the island progress to a life of evil. Furthermore, the torture of Robert showcases the
transition from good to evil and civilized to savagery in

The Rebirth Of American Musical Theatre Essay
Two great writers of American musical theatre, Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, had one
idea in common. They wanted to present to the American public a new and revolutionary musical that
would stand out above the rest. They wanted to make an impact on the societies of the era. They
wanted to be creative and do something that was considered rebellious. When they finally combined
their ideas together they created an American masterpiece in musical theatre: Oklahoma!. It was the
first Rodgers and Hammerstein collaboration, starting the most successful creative partnership in the
history of American musical theatre.
According to Joseph Swain in his book The Broadway Musical: A Critical and Musical Survey, there

has been recognized as a new kind of musical play that denied its Broadway audiences many of their
most treasured traditions, says David Ewen in American Musical Theatre. There was no opening
chorus line, no chorus until midway through the first act, in fact. There was rather a serious ballet and
other serious overtones, including a killing in act two. The story, which was so simple, seemed to
engage the audience in more than mere evening diversion. (248) These changes, far from
disappointing to viewers, were upheld by a success that had never been seen in the history of musical
theatre.
He continued to say that with their first collaboration, Rodgers and Hammerstein ushered in a new era
for the musical theatre. This beautiful folk play realized fully that which the earlier Rodgers and Hart
musicals had been striving to obtain: a synchronization of all the elements of the musical theatre into a
single entity. At best Oklahoma! could lay legitimate claim to have carefully woven a new element,
dance, into the artful fabric of the modern musical. No longer would singers sing and then go into
their dance, a purely decorative dance at that. (248)
Dance was not a new element in the theatre realm. It had been used for years as a way of interpretation
of feelings of a character that the writer or director wanted the audience to feel visually. Through
movement, expression of those feelings was portrayed and helped the audience to somewhat

The Symbolism Of Water In The Gospel Of John
Water is a sign of life, which is why scientists are constantly searching for it on other planets. Though
water is necessary for all living things on our planet, it also possesses destructive properties. Water is
often used by authors in their novels as a symbolistic element and the Bible is no different. The
Gospel of John uses water frequently to symbolize purity and cleansing, as well as spiritual needs.
John uses the symbolism of water through signs to reveal Jesus identity as the Son of God. The
dialogue between Jesus and the Samaritan women in John 4 and the power of God through Jesus as he
walks on water in John 6 are interpreted to reveal the power and presence of God, through the mission
and ministry of Jesus Christ, Son of God. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is used to clean and purify things, which is why baptisms involve water. Jesus says, Very truly I tell
you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again (John 3:3). Many scholars believe
that this being born of water is considered baptism. Being baptized is consider a new birth, the
creation of spiritual life. As state earlier, water symbolizes purity. In John 1:29 34, John the Baptist is
baptized with water. Jesus is baptized in John 3:22 30. Jesus also uses water to wash the feet of the
disciples (13:1 20). The ritual of water baptism is a way to express the spiritual conversion. Jesus uses
the water to cleanse and purify spiritually. Baptisms in today s society typically occur soon after birth
when a child enters the world or when a person decides to join a new faith. This cleansing in the water
represents birth and new life in the church and in faith.
Water has life sustaining properties. It has been said that one can go weeks without food but only days
without water. In John 2:1 12, Jesus uses water as a source of refreshment when he turns it into wine
at Cana in Galilee. The first sign of Jesus glory is at a wedding celebration, which is why he turns
water, something quenching, into wine, something for enjoyment. In John 4:7, a Samaritan woman
says to Jesus, give me a drink. Jesus calls himself the bread of life and says that those who come to
him will never thirst (6:35). Jesus self revelation as the provider of living

`` This American Life ``
This American Life was the story of The fractioned view Keith Aldrich s children had of him, and his
daughter, Gillian s, attempt to reconcile an entire image of her father. Aldrich s story was one of
caution, of becoming too caught up in one s surroundings. In seeking to become a staple of a piece of
time and history, Aldrich disregarded his individuality in order to emulate those he admired. Aldrich
life was a pattern of change categorized by numerous marriages and the resulting children. He dawned
new roles once he tired of his domestic life, until he decided to move on to a new family, and the cycle
started again. Gillian has categorized her father s life into time periods, periods in which he enacts a
new persona and dons a new family to complete the illusion. There were many moral issues raised in
this podcast. Some were individually perceived morals flaws, while others were more widely agreed
upon to be negative. Some of his ethical issues that are more subjective were things like absentee
parenting, extramarital affairs, drugs, and alcohol use. However, his more egregious ethical issues
were the physical and emotional abuse of his children, particularly Josie, his assault on his son s
girlfriend, and his malicious treatment of his wives in response to his own life failings. He consistently
rationalized his wrong doings and blamed those around him for his inability to be who he wanted.

The Chef With Jon Favreau
Top Dog and Underdog
Do you think you are having a hard month? Have you ever felt like the underdog and you aren t every
going to be on top? Then you should watch the movie The Chef with Jon Favreau. The Chef is a great
film about a Head Chef, who quits his high end restaurant job and buys a food truck to reclaim his
creative promise; while piecing back together his estranged family. It is strongly agreed with LA
Times writer Gary Goldstein whom stated, Warm, dimensional and intuitive, this Carl proves an ideal
combo of top dog and underdog as well as a thoroughly credible kitchen master. The Chef can be
highly recommended for many different reasons. One may say, for the famous A List cast members
like Sofia Vergara and Henry Winkler. Sofia Vergara is one of the main actors of Modern Family.
Henry Winkler is also, a known top actor from the 1970 s sitcom Happy Days. Another reason this
film maybe highly recommended is for its great scene locations. The Chef was filmed in many
different foods from the fancy restaurants to the Farmers Market; where the food is displayed in a way
that enhance four of your five human senses. Maybe The Chef can be recommended for the eye
catching landscapes locations from the streets of New Orlando to the beaches of Florida. However,
one may say the film is an overwhelming delightful watch, because it is Jon Favreau writing and
directing.

Shechtman And Skepticism
A good scientist is a humble and listening scientist and not one that is sure 100% in what he read in
textbooks, stated Dan Shechtman in an interview with the Associated Press published on October 5,
2011. Shechtman was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2011 for his discovery of quasicrystals
(Nobel Media, 2014). When he discovered them in 1982, he revolutionized ideas about crystals and
phases of matter. When asked about himself in an interview by Istvan Hargittai for the book Candid

It seems as though the quasicrystals have many attributes not expected in a purely metal compound.
For instance, the thermal conductivity values of quasicrystals are much smaller than imagined, making
them perfect thermo insulators. Thermal conductivity at room temperature for AlFeCu and AlPdMn
quasicrystals is more than two orders of magnitude smaller than pure aluminum and half that of
zircon, which was previously thought to be one of the best thermo insulators, (Jazbec, 2009). In
addition, the electrical resistivity of certain quasicrystals exceeds a value of 109 or 1010 larger than
pure aluminum (Jazbec, 2009). Finally, the quasicrystals have a low friction coefficient, show high
hardness, and incredible corrosive resistance. All of these attributes makes the possibilities for using

The War After The Japanese Attack On Pearl Harbor

WW2 Propaganda
From 1941 to 1945, the United States fought in the second world war after the Japanese attack on
Pearl Harbor. It had created a chaotic environment for America as a whole; panic spread across the
nation and many were fearful of the Axis powers. Because the government is an accurate
representation of its people, the people will always reflect the behaviors of their government. Thus,
nations needed to remain strong and tenacious in their efforts to support allies and defend against
enemies. An effective method of doing so was through the wide use of propaganda. Through movies,
animations, and formal and broadcasted speech, the United States used influential pieces ... Show

Using propaganda as a service announcement allowed the government to get money to fund the war.
In junction with animated propaganda was movie based propaganda. Director Frank Capra produced
seven films from 1943 to 1944, collectively called Why We Fight, portraying Germany, Italy and
Japan as nations of inhuman murderers. The film was produced as a response to Leni Riefenstahl s
film Triumph of the Will and had a tough time convincing non interventionist America to get involved
in the war. Capra s goal was to let the enemy prove to our soldiers the enormity of his cause and the
justness of ours (Wikipedia, Why We Fight). In order to persuade Americans to support the war, Capra
took out many facts from the film in order to paint the Allies, especially the Soviets, as good guys.
The Nazi Soviet Alliance, the Soviet s invasion of Poland, and Soviet occupation of the Baltic States
were all excluded.
Another form of propaganda used by Americans during World War II were speeches. One such
speech, Four Freedoms, was given by Roosevelt during his 1941 State of the Union Address before
the United States officially joined the war. It outlined the four freedoms that would be guaranteed to
all people across the world: the freedom of speech; freedom of worship; freedom from want; and
freedom from fear (Foley 58). And since Americans believed that the U.S. was a symbol

John Stewart Daily Show Analysis
Not a Laughing Matter: The Negative Effects of Satirical News When Jon Stewart announced his
retirement from The Daily Show in 2015, headlines lamented the end of reason in the news. A New
Yorker article declared that The last hope for bringing some rationality to the 2016 Presidential field
died (Sorkin). In other instances, Jon Stewart has been compared to Walter Cronkite and Edward
Murrow, who are famed for not only their voices that reached out to the nation but also their
journalism that changed the tide of the politics of their time. One may ask how a professional
comedian ended up in the ranks of such well respected names in reporting, or how he came to be the
most trusted man in America in the first place. Jon Stewart began on The Daily Show, the satirical
news show, in 1999, using comedy to break down the nightly news to its audience. Stewart started his

Following the 2016 presidential election, this political action took the form of protest and marching.
The Women s March could be seen as an example of people motivated by fear and anger to go out on
the streets in millions to voice their disapproval of the other side . Reporting by satirical news shows
not only may have played a role in prompting the negative feelings but also explicitly encouraged the
protest. In The Daily Show episode following Trump s inauguration and the Women s March, Trevor
Noah celebrated the protest, saying, the one silver lining of a Donald Trump presidency; unity.
Everyone is teaming up against him . Words like these can have a strong influence on the millions of

Yellow Fever Vaccination Research Paper
A vaccination is a treatment which makes the body stronger against a particular infection.
The body fights infection using the immune system, which is made up of millions of cells including T
cells and B cells. An important feature of the immune system is that it is much stronger when fighting
a disease which it has already fought against before. It has a memory.
Vaccination involves showing the immune system something which looks very similar to a particular
virus or bacteria, which helps the immune system be stronger when it is fighting against the real
infection.
What is the immune system?

The antigens in a vaccine are recognized by lymphocytes and lead to development of memory cells.
Vaccines teach the immune system by mimicking a natural infection.
After successful immunization with a vaccine, a person is exposed to the actual pathogen, the memory
cells enable the immune system to mount a rapid, sustained immune response. This greatly reducing
the complications associated with a natural infection.
For example, the yellow fever vaccine, first widely used in 1938, contains a weakened form of the
virus that doesn t cause disease or reproduce very well. Human macrophages can t tell that the vaccine
viruses are weakened, so they attack the viruses as if they were dangerous. In the lymph nodes, the
macrophages present yellow fever antigen to T cells and B cells.
A response from yellow fever specific T cells is then activated. The B cells produce yellow fever
antibodies. The weakened viruses in the vaccine are quickly eliminated by our immune system. The
mock infection is cleared, and humans are left with a supply of memory T and B cells for future
protection against yellow

The Kingdom of the Netherlands
The Kingdom of the Netherlands
The country called the Kingdom of the Netherlands, or more often simply the Netherlands, is an
intriguing place. Common images associated with this country include decorative wooden shoes, large
white Dutch hats on little girls, elaborate systems of dikes, wooden windmills, and fields of colorful
tulips. A land of diverse and varied history, the Netherlands has overcome intriguing struggles in many
centuries, impacting the world despite its diminutive size. Among the smaller countries in Europe, the
Netherlands ranks thirty first out of forty five countries. The country has many valuable assets, such as
the famed Ruhr industrial zone lusted after by the ambitious Germans in World War II. It would be ...

The country also shares an eastern border with Germany.
The mouths of three major European rivers converge in the Netherlands: the Rhine, Maas (or Meuse),
and Schelde. The heritage of the Netherlands is equally interesting. Though the country celebrates
unique traditions, such as St. Nicholas Day a holiday based on the life of a generous bishop the
earliest recorded history comes from the time of the Roman Empire. The Romans built forts and
warred successfully against the natives of the region, known as Batavians. Later, the Batavians
rebelled. Though they ultimately lost, they gained a tax exempt status within the Empire. The Dutch
proudly consider the perky Batavians to be their founding fathers. Like the rest of Europe, the region
became a feudalistic society during the Holy Roman Empire. Pope Urban II s encouragement in the
late eleventh century led drew the Dutch into the crusades. Later, the powerful Hapsburg family (1477
1515) entangled the country in religious wars and unsuccessful struggles for emancipation from the
Holy Roman Empire. Caught up in the aftermath of the Reformation, the country even came under
control of the Roman Catholic Philip II of Spain (husband of Bloody Mary of England). A
predominantly Protestant region as a result of the Reformation, the country resisted Phillip and the

Percy Harrison Fawcett Research Paper
Blank spots on a map leave even the most uninterested curious; calling them in ways most would not
understand. Unexplored lands and oceans inspire thousands to venture into the unknown, no matter
the level of experience. Those who feel the pull cannot ignore it and would give up everything just to
feel the thrill of the adventure. Percy Harrison Fawcett, born on the 18th of August of 1867, was one
of those who had felt the pull and just could not resist. Fawcett took on the Amazon, specifically El
Dorado, the city of gold. Close to nothing was known about the Amazon before he went in. Percy
Fawcett was one of the greatest explorers the world has ever seen. To be a good explorer one must
have confidence, passion, and courage. In the book, Lost City of Z , author, David Grann,
continuously presents examples of Fawcett being a great explorer by possessing these traits. In 1925,
Percy Fawcett sets out to the Amazon to find El Dorado and though he does not return, he gets far
enough in such a way that we as the readers can truly understand what makes a good explorer. For the
duration of the novel, through Grann, Fawcett proves how confidence (such as his own), is a necessary
trait for a successful explorer to have. For example, Nina Fawcett, Percy Fawcett s wife, told the
Royal Geographical Society about Fawcett s faith in himself and his own skill set. Nina states, Major
Fawcett contemplated cutting through 100 miles of forest... in a month (123). Especially without the

Thanksgiving Scene Analysis

The scene I have decided to analyze begins at 05:40 minutes into the episode and ends exactly at the
11:00 minutes into the episode. The scene begins with Dev and Denise hanging out on Thanksgiving

The use of music does not enter the scene until 07:49 within the scene. The music is offscreen
nondiegetic. The song Pass the Dutchie by Musical Youth is qued following Denise coming out to Dev
about her sexuality. After Denise opens up about being homosexual to Dev, Dev then says how the
topic was intense and that the two should smoke some weed to take the edge off, at this point, the
music begins with the lyrics This generation rules the nation with version, music happens to be the
food of love. The song selection was both aesthetically and narratively pleasing. It foreshadows that
the young Dev and Denise s generation will soon rule the nation with version once they become of
age. The generational reference is important because the prior generation is less understanding, such
as Denise s elders. Also, they will rule with version because there will be a change from the previous
generation. The lyrics music happen to be the food of love are situational irony within the scene
considering that the song references music being the food of love after talking about a taboo topic that
can fill many with hate. Also, the reference to food while the episode takes place on Thanksgiving also
makes the narrative play upon the lyrics. Aesthetically, the song is about recreational use of marijuana

What Are Residential Schools In Canada
Aboriginal men and women who lived through residential schools brought the concern of residential
schools onto the public agenda.[2] Their work resulted in the Indian Residential School Settlement
Agreement, which stipulated a residential school Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada be

for the purpose of separating children from their families.[2] According to the commission, this was
done with the intention to minimize the family s ability to pass along their cultural heritage to their
children.[2][3] The commission spent six years traveling to different parts of Canada to hear the
testimony of approximately six thousand Aboriginal people who were taken away from their families

The Tempest Conflict
Every four years in the United States, presidential candidates run for control over the U.S. There are
many steps in the process that they have to take, such as beating their fellow competitors; which can
create a struggle. In the play The Tempest the characters have the same type of struggle. In the
beginning of the play there is a huge storm, created by a magician as an act of revenge. The storm is
directed towards people on a ship who have done him wrong, or will do him wrong throughout the
play. Many of the characters try to overthrow the magician, also known as Prospero. Each of the
characters come up with a plan to gain some type of power over him, or others; this eventually gets
into Proespero s head, when he uses magic to play tricks on them. In the end, he realizes where he was
wrong for his actions, and forgives them for their wrong doings also. In William Shakespeare s play,
he uses conflict to demonstrate a theme of struggle for power. ... Show more content on

Abstract
During this research paper we will be looking into the definition of flight into known icing as it s
described by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) with special emphasis on the word known or
forecasted icing as a legal requirement for both pilots and aircraft. We will look at aircraft systems
designed for such operations and we will be analyzing the misunderstanding that many pilots have
about this issue. One of the biggest misconceptions is that an aircraft equipped with deicing equipment
makes it rated for known icing conditions. We will briefly look at the regulations on aircraft
certifications and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We will be focusing more on airborne anti icing as part of Aircrafts rating for flight and the known
icing conditions as defined by the FAA. While ground removal of ice is not the focus FAR 135.227
and FAR 91.527 state.
No pilot may take off an aircraft that has frost, ice, or snow adhering to any rotor blade, propeller,
windshield, stabilizing or control surface; to a power plant installation; or to an airspeed, altimeter,
rate of climb, flight attitude instrument system, or wing, except that takeoffs may be made with frost
under the wing in the area of the fuel tanks if authorized by the FAA. (FAR, 2016)
There are always exceptions to this rule including meeting training requirements of FAR 135.341 and
meeting additional criteria outlined in FAR 135.227.
There are several deferent types of ground de icing including manual removal and the use of
chemicals or solutions (some heated) to remove ice and snow or preventing ice buildup on the aircraft
during the takeoff phase of flight. This is only to protect the aircraft until the aircrafts own anti icing
equipment can become effective. Some good sources for ground deicing processes and procedures can
be found in Aeronautics Information Manual (AIM) under section 7 5 14. As well as the FAA s
Standardized International Aircraft Ground Deice Program (SIAGDP) (2010).
Defining Icing Conditions The definition of known icing conditions can be found in the (AIM, 7 1 22
table 7 1 9) and defines it as.

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Employee Relations
Employment relation is one of the vital and critical parts of HRM. For making an effective and
healthy relationship between employers and employees, it is important to understand the perception of

organisation fails to understand its significance of employment relations and unable to manager
employer and employee relationship efficiently, this might lead to impact on the organisation power

  • 4. The Stoning Of Soraya M Essay The title of the film The Stoning of Soraya M. is a prelude to the story. The title is completely relevant to the practice of a country where stoning is seen as simply carrying out the law. The movie is set in Iran, the year is 1986, the landscape is cold and gloomy. There are no manicured lawns or cookie cutter houses, lining the streets with painted pavements. No, here we see bare dirt and rocks. It seems barren and dry with a few trees. A woman covered with a Burqa is walking among the desolate streets. The sound of a sputtering car pervades the cold stillness of the air, and we see the car stall at the bottom of a hill. The woman with the Burqa is walking quickly down a rocky path. She seems to be rushing, as we hear a sound that, much like the sputtering car breaks the silence of the landscape. A black dog laps up a liquid from a torn cloth that was laying amongst the stones. The woman Shohreh Aghdashloo, playing the role of Zahra yells as she chases away the dog from the black soaked cloth that laid on the ground next to the serenity of a bubbling stream. The woman cries as she picked up the remnants of the black cloth and we see bones. She takes them lovingly in her hands as she washes them in the stream then, begins to dig what looks like a grave with her bare hands. Her face is distraught, her hair is strewn all around her face and we realize that the bones wrapped in the cloth was from a person. Zarah buried them in an unmarked grave near the only beautiful ... Revered and inspirational leaders and eras like, Martin Luther King and the Civil Rights Movement, Nat Turner and the slave revolt, or Huey Newton and the Black Panther Party. One such period that will always remain a significant part of black art and culture is the Harlem Renaissance. It changed the meaning of art and poetry, as it was known then. Furthermore, the Harlem Renaissance forever left a mark on the evolution of the black culture. The Harlem Renaissance found its birth in the early 1920 s, in Harlem, New York. The period has been thought of as one of African Americans greatest times in writing. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Weldon s collection also included a young talented poet named Langston Hughes. Hughes had a love for music, mainly the blues, which became a bridge between African American Literature and Folk music. Zora Neale Hurston, an anthropologist originally born in Florida, wrote the literary magazine Fire! Although it lasted only one issue because of financial difficulties, Hughes, publisher Wallace Thurman, and a number of other influential black artists had shared in making one of most recognized Harlem Renaissance materials. Hurston later went on to publish Their Eyes were Watching God, in 1937, still keeping with the themes of strong black characters. Music was another art form found in the Harlem Renaissance. It became the background, inspiration, and the structure for the Harlem Renaissance literature. A style of music known as jazz represented the new, urban, unpredictable lifestyle. One of the greatest jazz singers of this time was Bessie Smith. She was a southerner and her recordings were rare for black performers during her time. Duke Ellington, whose legendary band played at the Cotton Club, personifies jazz. Charlie Parker and Billie Holiday would also record jazz music form the 1930 s until the 1950 s. Langston Hughes was one of the few poets that would combine both blues and jazz to create an original art form. Claude McKay used the jazz atmosphere in his novel Home to Harlem. • 7. Dead Poets Society Conformity What is conformity? To put it simply, it means to adhere to societal standards or norms . Adolescents are particularly susceptible to such; when they begin to separate from their family and form their own identity is when they also seek acceptance from their peers or live up to expectations from their parental figures. Conforming to social norms help them redefine themselves while earning them acceptance and approval. Fitting in simply feels good (Ulene 6). Of course, while actual students are not fed into a meat grinder, the symbolism is clear. Students go through their school career being told what to do and how to act. This will program the kids into acting in similar fashions, thereby contributing to the child s isolation. The symbolism directly translates into teenagers today: being trained to do the same schoolwork the same way that will get recycled later. • 9. Healthcare Paper 1a. What model of healthcare does the US and your chosen country have (Japan)? Be very specific. The United States has a healthcare system that is different from almost every country in the world. I would call the United States health care system a hybrid type system. I would call our system a hybrid because we fall into almost every type of category possible when it comes to health care; for instance, people who are uninsured have to pay out of pocket when they want to see a doctor versus someone who is insured and only has to pay a deductable. Many companies in the United States offer free medical care for employers, or they make health care insurance fairly cheap to afford. Unlike many countries our healthcare system is a little ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The person who utilizes this plan generally has to pay co pay, which the cost varies depending on the type of plan you have. Many people like this type of plan because when you go to the doctor you don t need to fill out claim forms. Members show a card when they go to the doctor or hospital. The downfall to this plan is that you might have to wait longer in the waiting room. Another plan the United States has is called point of service plan. This plan allows the members of the plan to refer themselves to an outside plan and still be able to obtain some coverage. A doctor can also make a referral out of the network and in turn the health care plan will pay for most if not the entire bill. A preferred provider organization is another type of plan offered by the United States. Just like the health maintenance organization, the preferred provider organization limits you to the number of doctors you can see, but when you do find the right doctor most of your medical bills are covered. The preferred provider organization requires you to choose a primary care physician in order to monitor your health care. If you elect to go to a doctor who is not part of this plan, some of the medical expenses are covered. I deem some people like this plan because if their primary care doctor is not part of the plan, they don t have to change doctors. According to Health Insurance. Info An Exclusive Provider ... • 12. Innate Evil In Lord Of The Flies By William Golding In the novel Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, a group of young British boys crash on a deserted island. Throughout the story, there are three significant situations that demonstrate the theme stating that civilization can mitigate but never wipe out the innate evil that exists within all human beings. The three situations are the first pig hunt, the torture of Robert, and the attempted murder of Ralph. First of all, the hunt of the very first piglet is a demonstration of the boys civil habits that are still engraved in them from their home lives. Ralph, Jack, and Simon are on their hunt for their first pig on the island when they come across squealing sounds that lead them to their prey. After they stare at the piglet for a while, they have the chance to kill it but Jack decides against it. Jack didn t want to kill the piglet because of the enormity of the knife descending and cutting into live flesh; because of the unbearable blood (Golding 29). Jack attempts to cover up his reasoning by saying that he was thinking of a good spot to stab the pig, though Ralph and Simon knew why he hadn t. The boys were still living in a civil society on the island as they had a leader, rules, and they all got along for the most part, so the thought of killing a pig was terrifying and unrealistic for Jack. Evidently, Jack is embarrassed in front of the boys because he did not kill their chance at food. During a meeting later that day, the other boys are asking about the pigs on the island, and Jack and Ralph are explaining why they couldn t kill it. Jack interrupts Ralph, and tells the boys that the pig ran away Before I could kill it but next time (Golding 31)! Jack says this in an aggressive tone as he is defending himself and proving he is more than capable to get them meat. The boys have not yet adapted to a life filled with chaos and savagery, so they are still hesitant about harming animals since they never had experienced anything like that back in England. • 13. The Rebirth Of American Musical Theatre Essay Two great writers of American musical theatre, Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, had one idea in common. They wanted to present to the American public a new and revolutionary musical that would stand out above the rest. They wanted to make an impact on the societies of the era. They wanted to be creative and do something that was considered rebellious. When they finally combined their ideas together they created an American masterpiece in musical theatre: Oklahoma!. It was the first Rodgers and Hammerstein collaboration, starting the most successful creative partnership in the history of American musical theatre. There was no opening chorus line, no chorus until midway through the first act, in fact. There was rather a serious ballet and other serious overtones, including a killing in act two. The story, which was so simple, seemed to engage the audience in more than mere evening diversion. (248) These changes, far from disappointing to viewers, were upheld by a success that had never been seen in the history of musical theatre. He continued to say that with their first collaboration, Rodgers and Hammerstein ushered in a new era for the musical theatre. This beautiful folk play realized fully that which the earlier Rodgers and Hart musicals had been striving to obtain: a synchronization of all the elements of the musical theatre into a single entity. At best Oklahoma! could lay legitimate claim to have carefully woven a new element, dance, into the artful fabric of the modern musical. No longer would singers sing and then go into their dance, a purely decorative dance at that. (248) Dance was not a new element in the theatre realm. It had been used for years as a way of interpretation of feelings of a character that the writer or director wanted the audience to feel visually. Though water is necessary for all living things on our planet, it also possesses destructive properties. Water is often used by authors in their novels as a symbolistic element and the Bible is no different. The Gospel of John uses water frequently to symbolize purity and cleansing, as well as spiritual needs. John uses the symbolism of water through signs to reveal Jesus identity as the Son of God. Then you should watch the movie The Chef with Jon Favreau. The Chef is a great film about a Head Chef, who quits his high end restaurant job and buys a food truck to reclaim his creative promise; while piecing back together his estranged family. It is strongly agreed with LA Times writer Gary Goldstein whom stated, Warm, dimensional and intuitive, this Carl proves an ideal combo of top dog and underdog as well as a thoroughly credible kitchen master. The Chef can be highly recommended for many different reasons. One may say, for the famous A List cast members like Sofia Vergara and Henry Winkler. Sofia Vergara is one of the main actors of Modern Family. Henry Winkler is also, a known top actor from the 1970 s sitcom Happy Days. Another reason this film maybe highly recommended is for its great scene locations. The Chef was filmed in many different foods from the fancy restaurants to the Farmers Market; where the food is displayed in a way that enhance four of your five human senses. Maybe The Chef can be recommended for the eye catching landscapes locations from the streets of New Orlando to the beaches of Florida. It had created a chaotic environment for America as a whole; panic spread across the nation and many were fearful of the Axis powers. Because the government is an accurate representation of its people, the people will always reflect the behaviors of their government. Using propaganda as a service announcement allowed the government to get money to fund the war. In junction with animated propaganda was movie based propaganda. Director Frank Capra produced seven films from 1943 to 1944, collectively called Why We Fight, portraying Germany, Italy and Japan as nations of inhuman murderers. The film was produced as a response to Leni Riefenstahl s film Triumph of the Will and had a tough time convincing non interventionist America to get involved in the war. Capra s goal was to let the enemy prove to our soldiers the enormity of his cause and the justness of ours (Wikipedia, Why We Fight). In order to persuade Americans to support the war, Capra took out many facts from the film in order to paint the Allies, especially the Soviets, as good guys. The Nazi Soviet Alliance, the Soviet s invasion of Poland, and Soviet occupation of the Baltic States were all excluded. Another form of propaganda used by Americans during World War II were speeches. One such speech, Four Freedoms, was given by Roosevelt during his 1941 State of the Union Address before the United States officially joined the war.
