The Organic Of Organic Foods Essay
In Today s, supermarkets, we have been spoilt with countless options of produce. Shopping in
supermarkets, consumers will find many stacks of foods labeled Organic . These foods has opened
up more opportunity for both the seller and the consumer, showing to be the highest emerging
sectors of the food industry in the past century, as another substitute to conventional foods that is
seen in the supermarket. Organic foods, has been shown to be the goods of a farming system which
avoids the exploitation of synthetic pesticides, fertilizers, additives and growth promoters.
Regardless of the price, there is a rising market for organic food, even though the technique used
has made the price significantly higher then that of normal conventional foods. There are many
questions on why people would purchase organic over traditional foods, and it is apparent that the
price does not affect the demand of the food. But why is there a large demand of organic foods?
Many research studies regarding the organic techniques in producing food, is due to the benefits
that arises from not only consuming the organic product but also the environmental benefits in
going all natural. Organic food is label as healthy because it contains low pesticide residue.
Furthermore, many consumers find organic food healthier, better tasting and safer than traditional
foods.
There is also a large positive environmental impact when creating these foods; therefore consumers
who are environmentally friendly would

Similarities Between The Three Semitic Religions
SIMILARITIES:
The Similarities between the three Semitic Religions (Judaism, Christianity, and Islam) are part of
the Abrahamic religious heritage. The three Semitic religions (Judaism, Christianity, and Islam is
that they are monotheistic religions, meaning that they only believe in ONE God. All three Semitic
religions suppose that God had created the world in six days and rested on the seventh day. Each
Semitic religion has a list of basic rules to follow as guidance to Heaven.
The three Semitic religions do believe that we are the children of Abraham and that God had
created the world, and humans full of mystery.

while Christians talk more about love and acceptance.
3.Another example is about how Islam and Christians have more belief on an afterlife with God in
Heaven than having another life on earth.

Deforestation In Peru
Peru lost more than 1 million hectares of Amazon forest over a period of 15 years
It is estimated that about 1.8 million hectares of Amazonian forests were lost between 2001 and
2015 with peaks of loss occurring in 2005, 2009 and 2014. The main causes of forest loss are
deforestation and soil degradation, small and medium scale agriculture, large scale agriculture,
pasture for livestock, gold mining, coca cultivation and road construction. Controlling small and
medium scale agriculture will be challenging for the government because unlike large scale
agriculture there is not just one company behind it. The hotspots for deforestation shift as it is
impacted by different causes. Using new technology (MAAP Monitors), activists are better able

Organic Farming Can Help Feed The World And Will Help...
Technically the earth produces enough food for everyone, but the food is not able to reach those
who need food. University of California study found that relatively small, and potentially
overestimated, differences in yield between organic and conventional agriculture, despite
historically low rates of investment in organic cropping systems. (Berkeley) Organic agriculturehas
increased biodiversity. There is an ambition that agriculture can help feed the world and will help
maintain soil (Berkeley). A student at Berkeley says, Increasing that proportion of agriculture that
uses sustainable, organic methods of farming is not a choice, it s a necessity (Kreman).
There are some things that are bad about organic farming. Three quarters of what American
farmers produce actually goes to feeding our animals, making ethanol, and not the hungry
(Morello). Organic farming could produce 40% more food if used in other countries. Organic
Farming will produce higher yields such as rice, corn, and wheat. It actually does better than
modern agriculture techniques. In countries such as India, Brazil, Kenya, and Guatemala have
doubled, almost tripled their yield by using organic farming, mostly because those countries can t
afford or access fertilizer (Morello). Like it was said that some countries can t afford the fertilizer
and pesticides. If agriculture was switched to organic it would be cheaper which could give an
economic advantage.
Organic Farming can improve soil fertility and

Chapter reminds me of a time in my young life where I did the same thing with my best friend.
We were in our early 20 s, both had young children, and began arguing over something we heard .
Instead of talking to each other like we had since we were 12, we began yelling, belting,
blaming, and not listening to the other person at all. The conflict became what I believed conflict

someone had to lose.[Devito, p.277] Since neither of us was willing to listen at the time we ended
up not talking for almost 2 years. But just like in the movie, we both had been at home

Personal Reflection Paper On Volunteering At Riverside...
Volunteering at COSI reminded me that children of all ages and backgrounds can get excited
about learning. I was able to make a clear, tangible difference in the lives by teaching children
science through enlightening experiments. However, because there are multiple age groups that
come and visit COSI, I never knew who was going to see to my experiment. This forced me to
become more flexible and think on my feet. It is always good to plan ahead, but excruciatingly
futile because you do not always know what is going to happen in the future. Some will be good,
and some will be bad. Being more flexible has helped me adapt better to my surroundings, face
challenges more easily and most importantly become effective with changes. At Riverside
Methodist Hospital, because I worked on floor duty and discharge, I interacted with patients and
heard interesting stories from owning pet fish to fighting in World War II. I saw their smiles
and I knew that even if it was for a little while, I helped a sick patient be happy and forget about
his or her troubles. Although I connected with many patients, I also saw a patient pass away. In a
way, this exposure to death at the hospital has made me value my friends even more. Before
volunteering, I prioritized academic success, but for most patients nearing the end, nothing is more
important than having people who will miss them. This simple truth has made me realize that it is
fine to go out and enjoy a movie with friends, because while grades are important, they will not
last a lifetime. The brave individuals I encountered at the hospital, despite being on opposite ends
of life from myself, have taught me how to live.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

How Far Do You Agree That the Qing Dynasty Fell Mainly...
How far do you agree that the Qing Dynasty fell mainly because of the humiliation of China at the
hands of foreigners?
The Qing Dynasty fell apart in the 19th after flourishing throughout the 18th century. Like many
complicated systems, it grew brittle and inflexible. It could not adjust as new problems arose. Bad
harvests, warfare, rebellions, overpopulation, economic disasters, and foreign imperialism
contributed to the dynasty s collapse. The qing rulers were themselves foreign as they were not
Chinese but Manchu so in a way its downfall was due to foreigner as it was the governments
failure that helped cause the collapse of the qing dynasty. another theory is that like all Chinese
dynasties it fell because of corruption.

The Qing Dynasty had experience a very prosperous period. But at the middle of the Chien Lung
years, there were both internal problems and external invasion. And let s see how these problems
became the symptoms of decline of this former great country. The administrative inefficiency was
a serious problem causing the Qing government to collapse. Since the emperor of the Qing
government held a suspicion feeling on the officials, so he set up many restrictions, checks and
regulations on them. Gradually the officials thought the less responsibility the less risk they will
face. This really hinders the administration of the government. And there was nobody wants to take
charge on important matters. So the decision had to be maked up by the emperor himself. But
after Chien Lung there was no great emperor. At this point you are probably wondering how on
Earth the Qing Dynasty lasted this long after all the wars and rebellions. And by this time it
seemed as if China did not have much say in what went on in its own territories. Communism was
clearly not working for China. Sun Yat Sen realized this and he attempted to do something about
it. He came close to death to try and make his dream of China becoming a Republic a reality. In the
1890 s he formed a secret, anti Qing society and by 1895 there was a price for his head in China
forcing him to have to leave the country. His dream was to see China become a Republic and to

Harriet Tubman And The Brave Rebel
Two of the most well known, moving women in history are Harriet Tubman, the slave freer, and
Rosa Parks, the brave rebel. Many people know about these two women, but have more than likely
not drawn a connection between the two of them. There are a few different areas that can help to
develop one s perception about the impact of these two women. As children these two women were
raised to be strong, independent, and influential. These childhoods led to their participation in two
massively important movements in American history. On top of all of these areas, an understanding
of the similarities and differences between the two can help one to realize the relationship that they
share. The last facet to the understanding of these historic leaders is to comprehend their
involvement in society and their movements at a detailed level. Rosa Parks and Harriet Tubmanare
two highly influential women in United States history who have some noticeable similarities
and differences. Harriet Tubman was born a slave around 1820 in Maryland. Even though she
was given the name Araminta by her primary owner, she decided to go against him and name
herself after her mother, Harriet Ross. Harriet never received an education because she was a
slave, but she was recognized for her usual strength and put into the field to work (Kranz and
Koslow). In 1826 when Harriet was six years old, just old enough to have a sense of family, she
was sold to a woman with little money looking for a young, female

Aristotle s Philosophy On Ethics
Nicomachean ethics is the name of Aristotle s work on ethics based on his lectures. It is said that
Nicomachean ethics were named after either Aristotle s father or son , as they were both named
Nicomachus. Aristotle believed that happiness is what makes a person pure. To prove his point,
Aristotle believed that there were four moral virtues that worked together; the virtueof great soul,
the virtue of justice, the virtue of practical judgment and the virtue of being a truly good friend. Ten
books have been written from Aristotle s lecture notes.
Aristotle s first seven books focus on the virtues he believed were important and was believed to
have his thoughts on ethics based on Plato and Socrates philosophy. In the first seven books,
Aristotle goes over basic virtues and how they relate to each other and to moral values. Over the
next few paragraphs, I will explain my understandings of Aristotle s virtues from these books.
In Book I, Aristotle starts to discuss what Plato stated about the Theory of Forms, but mainly
wants to define happiness, what is also known as Eudaimonia. Aristotle states in Book I, three
ways in which people associate with happiness; slavish way of pleasure (majority of people),
refined and active way of politics, (which aims at honor), and the way of contemplation (Aristotle:
Nicomachean Ethics). These three things are said to be what people aim for in their own sake of
happiness.
In Book II, Aristotle speaks about the nature of human

Nurses Care Of Patients With Multiple Problems And Needs
Registered nurses take care of patients with multiple problems and needs. Being able to
establish priorities by figuring out which needs take superiority over other needs is a crucial
role in our career. Prioritizing is the important to time management. It allows the registered nurse
to focus on tasks that require more of your attention, energy, and time. Some things may be left
undone, but they can be passed down to the oncoming shift, and some things can be delegated to
other team members. Nursing is a 24 hour job. Prioritizing patients should be done according to
Maslow hierarchy of needs, ABCs, stable versus unstable patients or the nursing process.
Maslow hierarchy of needs identifies different levels of human needs. There are five levels of
needs: physiological needs these are basic needs; they include both needs necessary for survival
and needs that are basic, but not mandatory for survival. Safety needs the things we need to give
us a sense of security; your property, your well being, and your family all provide you with your
safety needs. Love/Belonging needs your need to feel like you fit in. Esteem needs the things that
add to your ego. Self actualization the highest level of the hierarchy; insight that is complete when
you reach your full prospective and your ability to distinguish your full prospective. Nursing process
steps include assessment, analysis, planning, implementation, and evaluation (Duncan DePew,
2011). Assessment is the first step in

Legislative Impact On Gifted Education
During the collection and revision process of acquiring information there were several discoveries
made that were evident that a lack of financial support in developing gifted students was happening
and also more emphasis is being placed on lower achieving students. The government has allowed
for more freedom for states and communities which allows each states and schooldistricts flexibility
in how they use federal educationfunds (Beisser 2008). This flexibility allows districts to use their
funds for their needs whether it is hiring new teachers, increasing teacher pay, or improving
training for teachers (Beisser 2008). However, most schools in their desperate zest to improve test

Norton Anthology American Literature Robert Levine Analysis
Two forces of history mentioned in Volume C of Robert S. Levine s text, Norton Anthology
American Literature, are realism and naturalism. These forces relate to the literature of that time
period in different ways. Realism relates because it portrays life according to how it was at that
time, and naturalism relates because it exaggerates realism. Both of these forces of history are
important to understand life at that time through a literary standpoint.
Realism was used to refer to literary fiction that was rooted in the observation and documentation of
the details of everyday life (Levine 7). This means that the authors of that time did not solely state
facts in their work, but instead they used their own perceptions. Writers described

My Narrative Figure Skating
When I was young, I fell in love with competitive figure skating. The ice was my second home,
and every minute I spent on it was pure bliss. By the time I was ten, I had practices four times a
week and several competitions a year. Unfortunately, my path to success did not leave me
unscathed. I had many falls and accidents over the years, and getting back up was almost never
easy. The worst accident occurred when I was first starting to skate. I was four years old, and it
led to my parents almost taking me off of the iceforever. It was a Wednesday. At the time, I only
had practice on Wednesday nights and Sunday mornings. I had just gotten my own skates so I
wouldn t have to rent them from the rink. They still gave me blisters since they weren t broken in,
but I didn t care about the painwhen I was flying on the ice. I put on my skates and hobbled over
to my teacher. The ice had just been run over by the Zamboni. It shined like a lake of still water.
My instructor, Kelsey, told us all to work on our falls as soon as we got on the ice. I got with my
partner and worked on my falling and getting up. We had been practicing for about five minutes
when I took a bad angle on my way down. My wrists slipped out from under me when I tried to
correct myself and my chin slammed into the ice.
Everything went black for a moment and all I could hear was my own heart. When my vision

Summary Of Hiroshima By John Hersey
What has kept the world safe from the bomb since 1945 has not been deterrence, in the sense of
fear of specific weapons, so much as it s been memory. The memory of what happened at
Hiroshima. John Hersey released his book Hiroshima nearly one year after the tragic bombing of
the city of Hiroshima, Japan. Its purpose, to show America and the rest of the work what happened
on August 6, 1945. At the time, the world wasn t aware of the full effects the bomb had on the
earth and the people there. Hershey accomplished more than just writing an entertaining book. He

motherly instinct of Mrs. Nakamura as she desperately tries to find her children. Just moments ago,
the air was peaceful and quiet until the equivalent of 15 tons of TNT was thrust upon them. Hersey

The Flipped Classroom Essay
The Benefits of the Flipped Classroom for the 21st Century Student
Introduction
The motivation to examine the flipped classroom as a theme of investigation originates from this
present creator s advantage and mastery in utilizing innovation and how it can be utilized to draw in
and upgrade the classroom condition today. Most secondary school seniors were conceived and
grew up concurrent with the introduction of cell phones, youtube, myspace, facebook, snapchat and
instagram. With the advances in innovation regularly, one starts to contemplate what is the eventual
future of education. Flipped classroom turned into an enthusiasm of mine since it includes utilizing
online videos and it can possibly furnish educators with additional time in the classroom to provide
learning experiences that will reinforce the skills needed by the 21st Century student.
Why the Flipped Classroom
Research has demonstrated that the classroom educator can have the largest impact on gains in
student learning (Marzano, Pickering, Pollack, 2001). Marzano et al. (2001) provided teachers with
many different research based strategies for increasing student achievement. In later research,
(Marzano, 2007) went on to say, Arguably, keeping students engaged is one of the most important
considerations for the classroom teacher (Marzano, 2007 p. 98). He additionally states that
engaging students have become increasingly difficult with the influence of a society with fast
paced media and video games.

Human Development from Conception to Birth
There are many reasons that certain drugs damage to an embryo very early in pregnancy even
before the mother realizes she is pregnant. Firstly, some of the mother already exposed to certain
drugs before she get pregnant such as tobacco and alcohol. For example, the women who take
cigarettes everyday in their daily life will continue to smoke before they realize it. Due to this,
the babies of mother who smoke tend to grow more slowly in the womb and are likely to be born
prematurely and small (Habek et al., 2002). Apart from that, some of the women did not go to

During the embryonic period, the rate of cell differentiation intensifies, support system for the cells

It has become elongated, and three layers emerge the ectoderm, mesoderm, and endoderm. In week
4, the embryo is so curved that the two ends almost touch. The outer layer (ectoderm) folds into the
neural tube. From the mesoderm, a tiny heart forms and begins to beat. The endoderm
differentiates into a gastrointestinal tract and lungs. Between days 21 and 28, eyes develop. In the
following week, ears, mouth, and throat take shape. Arm and leg buds appear. The handplate from
which fingers will emerge appears. The heart divides into two regions, and the brain differentiates

Consumer Spending In The United States
American s are known for spending the money they do not have. Most people in the United States
are consumers that is the reason why Walmart is so successful. In August many people spent more
money than usual as personal spending, consumer consumption, and household consumption.
People tend to spend more money when supply decreases and therefore their demand increases.
Many of these individuals do not see the real expenditures they are making. These are the reasons
why in August household spending rose: First, personal spending which includes health care
amongst other things, advanced 0.4% in August (Sparshott, 2015). Credit cards may not be an

consumer spending may be influence by the final sales every store in the U.S. presents. At the end,

Literary Analysis Of Superman
John Ondrasik s Superman, expresses the message of society expecting perfection and putting
people on too high of a pedestal. Using Superman as a symbol, Ondrasik unveils the hardship of
living up to the expectations of society. Due to his unique abilities and powers, society expects
nothings less than perfection from Superman. Having lost his family and home planet It is not easy
to be [Superman]. Superman has to fight everything that society tells him to so that he can be
himself. He is put on a high pedestal in society and is expected to perform in tough situations.
Many people in the world look up to Superman due to his special powers. Society assumes
Superman s life is easy and perfect since he has these powers which make a mockery of mere
mortals but it is not. Superman wishes people did not think so much of him and tries hard to
please everyone. Frustration builds up and Superman feels like killing himself (hence the
kryptonite). Superman simply cannot make a mistake since he is always expected to succeed.
Similarly, many people in our society are put on high pedestals. Even students like ourselves, are
expected to receive straight A s and never score inadequate on a test. Eventually, when these
students receive a mediocre grade, they are ashamed of themselves. These students are frightened
to inform their parents since their expectations are so high. Athletes are also put under
tremendous pressure to perform in big games. Failing is simply not an option. If one fails to
succeed, the loss will follow them around for the rest of their lives. A stamp of failure will revolve
around their name. Similarly, Superman feels like he is put on a high pedestal. Society does not let
Superman cry or dreamsince he is not a normal person. He is not expected to cry or dream . His
duty is to protect Earth from deleterious villains and he does not have a choice to say no. Society
needs to be less naive and understand that reaching perfection is not possibly. Like Superman,
men in today s society are socialized to be strong, dependable, and emotionless. Men are required to
repress their emotions and expected to live up to a ridiculous idea of what it is to be a man . Using
Superman as a symbol is a

Introduction
Negotiation appears in all aspect of life, no matter small or big, casual or formal. Negotiation
becomes more and more popular and essential in nowadays society (Fells, 2012). Numerous of

However, distributive approach not suggested implying much during the negotiation as long as
integrative approach yields better results (Fells, 2012).
There are several common strategies and behaviour with approach in distributive negotiation.
Different with integrative approach, information exchange while using distributive approach is
limited, especially just the part that help for own side. Fells (2012) generalize the discussion of
Walton and McKersie s (1965), which stated that both party aimed to shape own expectation with
adopting firm positions and commitments between the parties. This has been further explained by
Riley (2001), negotiators tried to turn the other party to agree while concession may be made to
reach an agreement.
Mediation
Mediation is the third party intervention within a negotiation in order to find way to resolve
problems. Beber (2010, p.3 4) defined that mediation is the non coercive intervention by a third
party in a dispute between two or more political entities for the stated purpose of effecting a
settlement of the dispute . Fells (2012) suggested that it is important to involve a mediator so as

American Education System Analysis
The American education system is obsolete. It has not changed since the late 20th century and its
archaic ways are wasting the minds of the youth. Gone are the days when it achieved its true
purpose of enriching the minds of its students. Now, it is hindering the development of the young
people. As Botstein has stated in his essay an institution intended for children in transition now
holds young adults back... (Source 3). What was supposed to augment teenagers knowledge, does
the complete opposite, and makes teenagers closed minded to the world around them. Where did
the educationcal system go wrong? How could this have happened? This detrimental decline in the

In order to resolve the first issue, teachers should be hired due to their outstanding qualifications,
not due to their connections to the school. This will ensure that the students are getting the best
people to prepare them for the adult world. To resolve the second issue, students should have a
narrower range of classes as they slowly transition from high school to university. These longer
classes will introduce students to the requirements needed for their chosen field. This will allow
students to become more verse in their field and gain more experience. Maybe such a drastic
change is impossible right now, but hopefully one day the American education system will be

Raisin In The Sun Prejudice
A Raisin in the Sun
Introduction
The movie A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry is about an African American family who
receives an insurance check for $10,000 from Mr. Younger s life insurance policy. Each of the
family members are anticipating doing something different with the money; in the meantime mama
has plans to buy a house for the family. The Younger family faces economic hardships and racial
discrimination during their struggles to gain middle class acceptance. The movie A Raisin in the
Sun demonstrates the importance of family values, personal dreams, and racial discrimination. In
the 1961 play, A Raisin in the Sun, Lorraine Hansberry uses the Younger family to show individuals
whom compete to reach their dreams that are often disregarded by others however; they eventually
learn to support one another to achieve wealthier and more stable futures.

of U.S. adults are now conducting more online transactions than they did in the past given the
current economic climate. However, 80% of adults who have conducted an online transaction in
the past year experience problems when doing so in 2009. Previously it was around 87%. This
improvement over prior years is the result of a better focus on delivering perfect experiences to

Antihero In Stuart Rosenberg s Cool Hand Luke
Released in 1967, Stuart Rosenberg s Cool Hand Luke was like many other films of the time,
and presented the main character as an antihero. An antihero is a protagonist of a story or film
who exhibits unconventional superhero characteristics. Lucas Luke Jackson played Korean War
veteran who was arrested for cutting the tops off of parking meters. He was sentenced to two
years in a Florida prison camp. Underlying the hard bitten surface is a slightly uncomfortable
allegory which identifies Newman as a Christ figure (Milnes, 142). He was idolized by the men in
the chain gang and changed their lives forever. From the time Luke arrives at the prison, he stands
out to the guards and the other prisoners. Luke earns his respect by fighting the prison s leader,

world s sin during his crucifixion. Luke finishes the last egg at the last second of the hour. He lies
on the table with his arms stretched out, and the camera zooms out to show him in a crucifixion

Male Masochism in the Religious Lyrics of Donne and...
Male Masochism in the Religious Lyrics of Donne and Crashaw The impetus of my
psychoanalytic exploration of male masochism in Donne and Crashaw occurs in Richard
Rambuss s Pleasure and Devotion: The Body of Jesus and Seventeenth Century Religious Lyric,
in which he opens up possibilities for reading eroticism (especially homoeroticism) in early
modern representations of Christ s body. In this analysis, Rambuss opposes Caroline Walker
Bynum who, in response to Leo Steinberg s The Sexuality of Christ in Renaissance Art, claims
that depictions of Christ s genitalia (the focus of Steinberg s work) can only be regarded as erotic
from a modern standpoint, for such representations in historical context, before the advent of
modern... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main objection to such an analysis arises from assumptions underlying the rigid dichotomy of
spiritual/erotic the insistence that that which is spiritual cannot be erotic, especially when joined to
physical or mental pain. Bynum s rationale for denying the possibilities of erotic meanings in
medieval and Renaissance texts lies not only in the distinction of the sexual/generative, but also in
this binary of spiritual/erotic. As Rambuss notes, Bynum refuses to acknowledge the erotic in
medieval and Renaissance religious texts because it appears to be deeply implicated in morbid
accounts of tortured flesh, a characteristic she finds extremely unerotic (178), thus implying that
spirituality cannot be sexual (267). On the contrary, I would argue that the representation of
spirituality in terms of physical and mental anguish does not preclude the erotic; indeed, it indicates
its involvement in the erotic. Physical and mental torments lie at the heart of the erotic fantasies
underlying Christian mysticism and, in varying degrees, the discourses of medieval and early
modern Christianity, a belief system that revolves around the central sacrifice of Christ. As Julia
Kristeva has commented, a whole ascetic, martyrizing, and sacrificial Christian tradition has
magnified the victimized aspect of that offering [Christ s death] by eroticizing both pain and
suffering, physical as well as mental, as much as possible (131).

Causes And Treatment Of Sickle Cell Anemia
Introduction
Approximately 70,000 100,000 Americans have sickle cell anemia, the most common form of an
inherited blood disorder that causes the production of abnormal hemoglobin, a protein that attaches
to oxygen in the lungs and carries it to all parts of the body.1 Sickle cell anemia is a inherited
disorder which causes the manifestation of unreliable hemoglobin resulting unevenly shaped red
blood cells, recognized as sickle cells. People with sickle cell disease have red blood cells that

months of age or older.
Someone who inherits only one sickle cell gene and a normal gene from the other parent will

It s the truth, because in United States were have lots of working parents who have to leave

The Political Economy Model Of Migration Policy
Gary Freeman suggests the gap between rhetoric and reality is best described in a political
economic account of migration policy. The political economy model of migration is modelled on
the interests of three sets of rational actors: voters, organised groups and state actors who attempts
to maximize their individual goals subject to state interests in different contexts (Freeman, 2002).
The first is post industrial change, which suggests stances on immigrationpolicy are better viewed
as interests defined by social groups (Freeman, 2002: 84). The second is the spatial account, where
the population compete for finite resources in densely settled areas exacerbated by strong
advocates of immigration in these locations, such as businesses which could help explain the gap
between rhetoric and action. The third is the international approach, where state protectionism
regulates the trade of goods and people. If immigration is economically beneficial to the state, it
will continue regardless of public sentiments. As social welfare effects are key determinants of a
countries migration policy , if migration stimulates the economy, it will have a positive impact on
society (Freeman, 2002: 88).
Liberal and International Norms
Liberal norms influence policy outcomes. Hollifield is concerned with the political interests that
drive migration policy in the face of liberalism. [S]overeignty requires a degree of territorial

Positive And Negative Effects Of Gender Stereotyping
Throughout society there are many different cultural and social perceptions that allow people to
form judgmental beliefs about society. Encompassed within these perceptions are stereotypes and
prejudice. Stereotypes and prejudice are examples of categorizations of people which allow our
brains to fill in the types or interactions that may happen with people. There are different positive
and negative forms of stereo types and prejudicethat effect our interaction with individuals resulting
in judgmental affliction upon individuals or groups. This essay will analyze and provide examples
of the positive and negative effects of genderstereotyping and prejudice. Stereotyping can come in
many different forms and have many different subjects. One form of stereotyping is of gender.
Just about everyone holds stereotypes of women and men some positive and some negative.
Women are more empathic and talkative; men are more competent and aggressive. For example,
are women really more empathic than men? Which women? Empathic toward whom? When
women s and men s actual behavior is observed systematically under a variety of conditions, the
sexes do not differ in having feelings of empathy or in its expression (book, p. 365). Social
pressures influence how we conform to these stereotypes, however it does create a problem
when people are victimized by the negative stereotypes of their gender or group. There are
different connotations that can be identified when stereotyping: positive, women are better
caregivers and men are better breadwinners or money makers. These positive connotations can be
taken negative towards the other gender or even their own gender men can be caretakers too and
women can make money. In the early 1900 s there was a high discrimination towards women,
women entering the work force worked in factory lines, while men worked management which
resulted in lower pay for women kept the men in charge. Over the years gender roles have taken a
turn and there is now a significant increase with women working and taking on management roles.
Roles in society are different between genders and those differences either positive or negative will
hopefully diminish after time.

Mnr Influence On America
Since its birth in the late 18th century, the United States has arguably had one of the greatest global
presences in human history. It has left its impact on most, if not all, nations currently in existence.
In the past century, the United States has helped develop and manage many different countries
around the world. In recent years the goal of this nation building and managing came in response to
the spreading of communistic ideals. The United States, being a democratic and capitalistic nation,
helped many nations avoid being led by communistic regimes. United States intervention has helped
to prevent dictatorships, oppression, and genocide around the globe. Many of these interventions

The spreading of communistic ideals was a, if not the, primary focus of U.S. foreign policy.
Even though both of these countries are thousands of miles and multiple continents away, the
manner in which the U.S. intervened in both of these countries is strikingly similar. While
communism was the root of both of these countries interventions, the MNR was not nearly as
dangerous of a communist threat as the North Korean government. The communistic goals of
the oppressive North Korean government were a much greater threat to democracy than the
primarily economic goals that the MNR had. This is why war was imminent in Korea but in
Bolivia it remained relatively peaceful. While both countries received financial and provisional
aid from the United States, the reasoning behind this aid was different. In Bolivia the United
States gave this aid in an attempt to stabilize their government and keep making economic profit
from the tin industry in Bolivia. While aid in Korea was less for United States gain and more
for the retention of democracy. Economically speaking, the case of Bolivia and South Korea
turned out to have an extremely different impact. The aid that was given to Bolivia, in turn
ruined their economy and drove them into deeper and deeper reliance upon the United States. In
South Korea however, the South Korean people were able to capitalize on the aid they were
given and turn it into a highly functional and profiting society. This is possibly because the
Bolivians were never able to diversify their countries source of revenue as South Korea was able
to, with it coming primarily from tin and oil. To this day the Bolivian people still have a
dependence on the American government where the Korean and American government can almost
be seen as equals. It would be a safe assumption to say that both the Korean and

Visual Observation Visual Observation is observing a patient by listening to the patient s breathing,
look at his or her colour, and see whether the patient is awake. This will immediately tell the patient
s health problems if you see any indicators that the patient is having trouble breathing, is breathing
too fast, or his or her colour is unnaturally pale or reddish, or if the patient appears to be in distress.
It will suggests the problems to the nurse in duty or the doctor. But, when the patient is breathing,
colour, or position in the bed indicates unconsciousness rather than normal sleep, the nurse will try
to wake up the patient to provide the certain treatment. And visual observation is best for the
recordings while it can be useful to measure the breathing process. Another visual observation is via
talking to the patient to see if the patient is awake, to ask if they feel comfortable, about any pain,
treatment and medication already taken, whether the patient has been eating or drinking. Talking
with the patient will also indicate about the urinary, facial rejection, any previous medical

Extreme Weather And Heat Waves
The first article or website that I explored was titled Extreme weather. It begins by stating that as the
world has warmed, it has triggered several other things in the earth s climate to be altered. It then
goes further into depth specifically naming the factors that have been changing due to the altering
of the climate. These factors include: heat waves, droughts, heavy downpours, floods, and lastly,
hurricanes (Extreme Weather, 2014).
Heat Waves In this section, a heat wave is referred to as abnormally hot weather lasting days to
weeks . It further goes on to say that the recent number of heat waves have been steadily increasing
with numbers almost triple the long term average (Extreme Weather, 2014). In this section it is
claimed that the droughts in Texas in the year 2011, and in the Midwest in the year of 2012, that
records were set for the highest monthly average temperatures to date (Extreme Weather, 2014).
A picture of a map is provided of the coast to coast 100 degree days in 2011, in conclusion, it is
observable that heat waves are on a steady increase.
Droughts A drought is described as an event that happens due to a rise in temperatures that leads to
an increased rate of evaporation, this even includes the loss of moisture through plant leaves
(Extreme Weather, 2014). This section on droughts states that as the soil dries out due to the
increase in heat, that it results in hotter soil and adjacent air rather than evaporating its moisture
and that this

Perceptions Of Gods During Ancient Civilizations
Gabrielle Gehr
WOH 2012 82047
Rough Draft
24 October 2014
Topic: Perceptions of Gods During Ancient Civilizations
Thesis:
Manifestation of gods fulfilled the needs of developing ancient civilizations.
Body of Evidence: 1. Thousands of years ago, before there were scopes, meters, and other types of
scientific instruments, it must have been difficult for early, developing civilizations to understand
the universe around them. Man looked up, casted his eyes to the heavens, and observed what he
saw. Lacking a scientific understanding, manifestations of gods helped primitive cultures to make
sense of the world around them. In fact, the first gods to be worshipped were the forces of nature.
It seems any force that is more powerful or difficult ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The presence of gods led people to a scary observation regarding personal life: morality. This new
piece of knowledge made people aware that life was only temporary. For the first time it became
clear that humans on earth would die at some point in their lives. Many people are scared of
dying and have every right to be especially considering what happens beyond life is uncertain.
From this, a very important question arose: What happens to a person after they die? The creation
of gods seemed to answer this question and calmed fears. Out of all of the religions, Islam may be
the most detailed in what happens after death and what lies ahead. According to the Qur an, the
Islam god or Allah created the earth and the seven heavens for his people. Islamic religion
teaches that the soul will continue to exist after death and Allah decides the human life span of
any earthling. Then causeth him to die and burieth him; Then, when he [God] pleaseth, will raise
him again to life (Excerpts from the Qur an, pg 25). There is a direct relationship between ones
actions on earth and what happens to their soul after the death of the human body. ...and that thou
mayest warn them of that day of the Gathering, of which there is no doubt when part shall be in
Paradise and part in the flame. (Excerpts from the Qur an, pg 27). The afterlife will either be one
of punishments or one of rewards. The Muslims believe that there will be a day of judgment for all
humans. God will resurrect and

A Rhetorical Analysis of “The Death of Honesty” by William...
In The Death of Honesty, William Damon raises the concern that current apathy towards increasing
dishonesty threatens democracy. In this essay taken from the online volume Endangered Virtues
published by the Hoover Institute in 2012, Damon initially concedes that there are situations where
lying could be considered acceptable. However, with that being acknowledged, he transitions to his
main premise that honesty is losing its importance in society and will lead to its downfall, and he
cites examples in politics, law, journalism, and business in contemporary society where dishonesty
is expected, and even, condoned. Damon finally directs his remarks pointedly at teachers and
current students who accept cheating in schools. To persuade... Show more content on

14, 16). Throughout his essay, Damon parallels these arguments of logic along with emotion to
gain a response from the audience. Damon uses descriptive words to carry the audience from
acceptance, to tolerance, and then, outrage in order to convince them of the urgency to espouse
to the virtue of honesty in a democratic society. Although he speaks of the need for compassion,
diplomacy and protection from unadulterated truth, he claims that no one is naive or surprised
their politicians are dishonest (par. 2, 3). Damon uses references to historical figures to invoke a
spiritual and patriotic response from the audience (par. 6). He refers to Gordon Hinkley s
descriptive passage as alarm sounding...a neglected virtue...and problematic status to extract a
response (par. 7). Damon presents a strong warning when he states that we are reaching a
dysfunctional tipping point when honesty becomes the loser s way of operating, and lying is
tolerated (par. 8 9). He also advances that it is most troubling that there is current lack of honesty
amongst young people due to the inconsistent implementation of standards within schools (par. 11).
He goes on to use words like sympathize, excusable, motivate, encourage, vacillate, half hearted to
address the response to cheating in schools (par. 15,16,18, 20). He pulls on the heartstrings of his
audience when warning of the implication of our current moral decline on children in their formative

National And State Assembly Elections In Nepal
We have seen nothing like this in Nepal in the past. I am talking about the upcoming national and
state assembly elections. These elections might make or break democracy.
The make part is easy to figure out. The elections will officially end the long political transition,
convert the country de facto from a unitary state to federal, and mark the endorsement of the
Constitution 2015 by the Madheshi parties.
The Madheshi parties had refused to endorse the new constitution until their demands were met.
They had asked for one state, and not more than two states, covering all 22 districts in the plains,
but the major did not agree. So only 8 districts have been included in the Madheshi only State 2
(the states are yet to be named). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At stake are 275 seats in the federal parliament, 165 to be elected by the first past the post method
and the rest from proportional representation. The number of State Assembly members will be
twice as many in the same ratio. Which alliance enjoys the better prospects?
In the 2013 general elections and recent local elections, the left parties were able to win nearly 60
percent seats up for the contest. If that ratio holds, the left alliance will likely be a clear winner in
the upcoming national and state elections. However, the rebel candidates against the alliance
candidates on both sides might not let the outcome to so straightforward.
Whatever the outcome, the emergence of the left and the non left alliance is a good step in the
right direction. If these alliances outlast the elections, it could be the beginning of a two party state,
like in the United States and the United Kingdom, which will contribute to political stability and
offer a clear choice for voters.
But if the two alliances fail to become competitive, the break part will likely ensue, harming
democracy and the country. Democratic elections make government representative and check it if it
does not deliver or misbehaves. But they also create autocratic leaders on both left and right.
For example, Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini were members of socialist

Analysis Of Mill On The Floss By George Eliot
This research report reviews scholarly criticism on the much debated character MAGGIE
TULLIVER from the book Mill on the floss written by George Eliot. The project I propose
analyses Maggie s character as a whole. The report will begin by discussing the critics point of
view of various reasons responsible for the death of Maggie Tulliver. The report then focuses on
how society and how her relationships lead to her downfall from the point of view of various
critics. A part of my report also critically analyses the death of Maggie Tulliver. Lastly my report
discusses about the inner conflicts of Maggie and how those conflicts eventually lead to her
fate. Maggie suppresses herself in the patriarchal system and struggles to make a place for
herself and to find an identity of her own. In her article Maggie Tulliver s long suicide1974
Elizabeth Deeds Ermarth says that Maggie eventually believes the lie, that she is inferior, or
wrong, or not to be taken seriously. She learned to collaborate in her own defeat . ELIZABETH
ERMARTH also comments on how society affects Maggie since she was shaped to be a child by
the family pieties, it is fitting that her life ends in a reversion to childhood where her energies to
be an adult, tragically, are unneeded. Moving on to her relationships, Ermarth analyses that her
relationships with Mr.Tulliver and her brother Tom Tulliver play a very important role in her being
a selfless person. In return of being obedient Tom gives

How Is Paradiso Created By Dantes Inferno
Why do most readers tend to read only Inferno? In the 1300s, Dante Alighieri wrote three parts to
the epic poem, The Divine Comedy, an imaginary story about himself. Dante is given a tour of the
three different sections of Heaven: Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso. Alighieri puts Dante through
innumerable experiences that change him as The Divine Comedyprogresses. Before Dante s journey
through Inferno, he realizes his current way of life is not on the true path . In other words, Dante
is not living life the way he should purely and without sinning. Alighieri compares this feeling to
being alone in a dark wood; as he says in line three of Canto I. When Virgilcalls to Charon to take
them to the circles of hell, Dante passes out because he is overwhelmed and frightened. This event
shows that he is shocked and not prepared for the things he is about to go through. The second
circle is filled with the lustful souls. These souls are punished by being constantly blown by wind,
preventing them from finding tranquility. Expectantly, Dante feels sympathy towards these souls,
because they are damned because of their love. In the fifth circle, Dante recognizes someone from
his life whom he despises, and is glad... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once again, Paradiso is split into spheres, as explained by Beatrice. In Canto II, Dante says,
...turn back and make your way to your own coast. / Do not commit yourself to the main deep,
/ for, losing me, all may perhaps be lost. In these lines, he is warning the reader to stop reading,
because human reasoning cannot understand the concepts and ideas expressed in Paradiso. This
statement expresses the fact that Dante has already gone through several changes that have helped
him become closer to God. Dante is finally one with God in this section of the story. All the change
he has gone through has lead up to this moment. Meeting God has brought Dante completely back
to the true

The Qing Dynasty Ruled China Essay
Often referred to as the Last Great Dynasty, The Qing Dynasty ruled China for over three
centuries. The Qing were a proud dynasty and relied little upon foreign trade and influences to
grow their economy. This was partly because The Qing were a self sufficient society. Another
reason for the denial of Western influences was due to The Qing s great pride of their own
culture. Any acceptance of Western influences would dilute the values and traditions of The Qing.
That being said, The Qing did allow a trivial amount of foreign trade to take place in the Port of
Canton. The refusal to allow Western influences, the lack of knowledge of the importance of
foreign relations and the continued reliance of Confucian teachings all played a part in the demise
of The Qing Dynasty. The modernization of China would not be possible without the rebellion of
1911. The failure to realize the importance of foreign relationships cannot be overlooked when it
comes to the fall of The Qing Dynasty. King George III of Britain, in an attempt to convince
Qian Long to allow the British access to other ports of trade, along with a few other requests,
sent Lord Macartney to China. These requests were extraordinary in the eyes of Qian Long and
were ultimately denied. Lord Macartney failed on his mission to petition Qian Long to open more
ports for transactions. This is in no doubt the fault of both parties, due to lack of foreign policy.
However, it could be argued that more blame could be

Cultural Influences Of Pop Music
The phrase pop music was first mentioned in the middle 1920 s. Then it was originated from its
modern form in the United States and United Kingdom during the mid 1950 s. Pop music is the
most popular genre that produces the most hits. Pop and Rock music were synonymous terms until
the late 1960 s. David Hatch and Stephen Millward describes pop musicas a body of music which
distinguishable from popular, jazz and folks music. Some people say that pop music is
professional music which draws upon both folk music and fine arts music. Pop music has been a
beneficial industry in America since the nineteenth century, yet Early Pop/Rock is a style that
came to fruition in the post shake and move time, once the more moderate components of the
record business had dealt with the new melodic scene. Early Pop/Rock developed in the late 50s,
as the underlying rock and move furor started to fade away.
Throughout the development of pop music, it has absorbed influences from other genres of pop
music. In the 1960 s the majority of pop music fell in the two categories; guitar, drum and bass
groups or singers backed by a traditional orchestra. During the mid 1960 s, pop music made
repeated forays into new sounds, styles and techniques that inspired public discourse among its
listeners. Before pop was known a lot performers were typically unable to decide on the artists of
their music. Between 1955 and 2010 they discovered that over 464,000 recordings of pop music
was recorded. Pop music has

Regardless of the price, there is a rising market for organic food, even though the technique used has made the price significantly higher then that of normal conventional foods. There are many questions on why people would purchase organic over traditional foods, and it is apparent that the price does not affect the demand of the food. • 4. Deforestation In Peru Peru lost more than 1 million hectares of Amazon forest over a period of 15 years It is estimated that about 1.8 million hectares of Amazonian forests were lost between 2001 and 2015 with peaks of loss occurring in 2005, 2009 and 2014. The main causes of forest loss are deforestation and soil degradation, small and medium scale agriculture, large scale agriculture, pasture for livestock, gold mining, coca cultivation and road construction. Controlling small and medium scale agriculture will be challenging for the government because unlike large scale agriculture there is not just one company behind it. The hotspots for deforestation shift as it is impacted by different causes. Using new technology (MAAP Monitors), activists are better able ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Organic Farming Can Help Feed The World And Will Help... Technically the earth produces enough food for everyone, but the food is not able to reach those who need food. University of California study found that relatively small, and potentially overestimated, differences in yield between organic and conventional agriculture, despite historically low rates of investment in organic cropping systems. (Berkeley) Organic agriculturehas increased biodiversity. There is an ambition that agriculture can help feed the world and will help maintain soil (Berkeley). A student at Berkeley says, Increasing that proportion of agriculture that uses sustainable, organic methods of farming is not a choice, it s a necessity (Kreman). There are some things that are bad about organic farming. Three quarters of what American farmers produce actually goes to feeding our animals, making ethanol, and not the hungry (Morello). Organic farming could produce 40% more food if used in other countries. Organic Farming will produce higher yields such as rice, corn, and wheat. It actually does better than modern agriculture techniques. In countries such as India, Brazil, Kenya, and Guatemala have doubled, almost tripled their yield by using organic farming, mostly because those countries can t afford or access fertilizer (Morello). Like it was said that some countries can t afford the fertilizer and pesticides. If agriculture was switched to organic it would be cheaper which could give an economic advantage. This Chapter reminds me of a time in my young life where I did the same thing with my best friend. We were in our early 20 s, both had young children, and began arguing over something we heard . Instead of talking to each other like we had since we were 12, we began yelling, belting, blaming, and not listening to the other person at all. The conflict became what I believed conflict was, a destructive event that reveals our negative selves and an event someone had to win and someone had to lose.[Devito, p.277] Since neither of us was willing to listen at the time we ended up not talking for almost 2 years. • 7. Personal Reflection Paper On Volunteering At Riverside... Volunteering at COSI reminded me that children of all ages and backgrounds can get excited about learning. I was able to make a clear, tangible difference in the lives by teaching children science through enlightening experiments. However, because there are multiple age groups that come and visit COSI, I never knew who was going to see to my experiment. This forced me to become more flexible and think on my feet. It is always good to plan ahead, but excruciatingly futile because you do not always know what is going to happen in the future. Some will be good, and some will be bad. Being more flexible has helped me adapt better to my surroundings, face challenges more easily and most importantly become effective with changes. At Riverside Methodist Hospital, because I worked on floor duty and discharge, I interacted with patients and heard interesting stories from owning pet fish to fighting in World War II. I saw their smiles and I knew that even if it was for a little while, I helped a sick patient be happy and forget about his or her troubles. Although I connected with many patients, I also saw a patient pass away. In a way, this exposure to death at the hospital has made me value my friends even more. Before volunteering, I prioritized academic success, but for most patients nearing the end, nothing is more important than having people who will miss them. This simple truth has made me realize that it is fine to go out and enjoy a movie with friends, because while grades are important, they will not last a lifetime. The brave individuals I encountered at the hospital, despite being on opposite ends of life from myself, have taught me how to live.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 8. How Far Do You Agree That the Qing Dynasty Fell Mainly... How far do you agree that the Qing Dynasty fell mainly because of the humiliation of China at the hands of foreigners? The Qing Dynasty fell apart in the 19th after flourishing throughout the 18th century. Like many complicated systems, it grew brittle and inflexible. It could not adjust as new problems arose. Bad harvests, warfare, rebellions, overpopulation, economic disasters, and foreign imperialism contributed to the dynasty s collapse. The qing rulers were themselves foreign as they were not Chinese but Manchu so in a way its downfall was due to foreigner as it was the governments failure that helped cause the collapse of the qing dynasty. another theory is that like all Chinese dynasties it fell because of corruption. But at the middle of the Chien Lung years, there were both internal problems and external invasion. And let s see how these problems became the symptoms of decline of this former great country. The administrative inefficiency was a serious problem causing the Qing government to collapse. Since the emperor of the Qing government held a suspicion feeling on the officials, so he set up many restrictions, checks and regulations on them. Gradually the officials thought the less responsibility the less risk they will face. This really hinders the administration of the government. And there was nobody wants to take charge on important matters. So the decision had to be maked up by the emperor himself. But after Chien Lung there was no great emperor. At this point you are probably wondering how on Earth the Qing Dynasty lasted this long after all the wars and rebellions. And by this time it seemed as if China did not have much say in what went on in its own territories. Communism was clearly not working for China. Sun Yat Sen realized this and he attempted to do something about it. He came close to death to try and make his dream of China becoming a Republic a reality. In the 1890 s he formed a secret, anti Qing society and by 1895 there was a price for his head in China forcing him to have to leave the country. • 9. Harriet Tubman And The Brave Rebel Two of the most well known, moving women in history are Harriet Tubman, the slave freer, and Rosa Parks, the brave rebel. Many people know about these two women, but have more than likely not drawn a connection between the two of them. There are a few different areas that can help to develop one s perception about the impact of these two women. As children these two women were raised to be strong, independent, and influential. These childhoods led to their participation in two massively important movements in American history. On top of all of these areas, an understanding of the similarities and differences between the two can help one to realize the relationship that they share. The last facet to the understanding of these historic leaders is to comprehend their involvement in society and their movements at a detailed level. Rosa Parks and Harriet Tubmanare two highly influential women in United States history who have some noticeable similarities and differences. Harriet Tubman was born a slave around 1820 in Maryland. Even though she was given the name Araminta by her primary owner, she decided to go against him and name herself after her mother, Harriet Ross. Harriet never received an education because she was a slave, but she was recognized for her usual strength and put into the field to work (Kranz and Koslow). • 10. Aristotle s Philosophy On Ethics Nicomachean ethics is the name of Aristotle s work on ethics based on his lectures. It is said that Nicomachean ethics were named after either Aristotle s father or son , as they were both named Nicomachus. Aristotle believed that happiness is what makes a person pure. To prove his point, Aristotle believed that there were four moral virtues that worked together; the virtueof great soul, the virtue of justice, the virtue of practical judgment and the virtue of being a truly good friend. Ten books have been written from Aristotle s lecture notes. Aristotle s first seven books focus on the virtues he believed were important and was believed to have his thoughts on ethics based on Plato and Socrates philosophy. In the first seven books, Aristotle goes over basic virtues and how they relate to each other and to moral values. Over the next few paragraphs, I will explain my understandings of Aristotle s virtues from these books. In Book I, Aristotle starts to discuss what Plato stated about the Theory of Forms, but mainly wants to define happiness, what is also known as Eudaimonia. Aristotle states in Book I, three ways in which people associate with happiness; slavish way of pleasure (majority of people), refined and active way of politics, (which aims at honor), and the way of contemplation (Aristotle: Nicomachean Ethics). These three things are said to be what people aim for in their own sake of happiness. In Book II, Aristotle speaks about the nature of human ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Nurses Care Of Patients With Multiple Problems And Needs Registered nurses take care of patients with multiple problems and needs. Being able to establish priorities by figuring out which needs take superiority over other needs is a crucial role in our career. Prioritizing is the important to time management. It allows the registered nurse to focus on tasks that require more of your attention, energy, and time. Some things may be left undone, but they can be passed down to the oncoming shift, and some things can be delegated to other team members. Nursing is a 24 hour job. Prioritizing patients should be done according to Maslow hierarchy of needs, ABCs, stable versus unstable patients or the nursing process. Maslow hierarchy of needs identifies different levels of human needs. There are five levels of needs: physiological needs these are basic needs; they include both needs necessary for survival and needs that are basic, but not mandatory for survival. Safety needs the things we need to give us a sense of security; your property, your well being, and your family all provide you with your safety needs. Love/Belonging needs your need to feel like you fit in. Esteem needs the things that add to your ego. • 12. Legislative Impact On Gifted Education During the collection and revision process of acquiring information there were several discoveries made that were evident that a lack of financial support in developing gifted students was happening and also more emphasis is being placed on lower achieving students. • 13. Norton Anthology American Literature Robert Levine Analysis Two forces of history mentioned in Volume C of Robert S. Levine s text, Norton Anthology American Literature, are realism and naturalism. These forces relate to the literature of that time period in different ways. Realism relates because it portrays life according to how it was at that time, and naturalism relates because it exaggerates realism. Both of these forces of history are important to understand life at that time through a literary standpoint. Realism was used to refer to literary fiction that was rooted in the observation and documentation of the details of everyday life (Levine 7). By the time I was ten, I had practices four times a week and several competitions a year. Unfortunately, my path to success did not leave me unscathed. I had many falls and accidents over the years, and getting back up was almost never easy. The worst accident occurred when I was first starting to skate. I was four years old, and it led to my parents almost taking me off of the iceforever. It was a Wednesday. At the time, I only had practice on Wednesday nights and Sunday mornings. I had just gotten my own skates so I wouldn t have to rent them from the rink. They still gave me blisters since they weren t broken in, but I didn t care about the painwhen I was flying on the ice. I put on my skates and hobbled over to my teacher. The ice had just been run over by the Zamboni. It shined like a lake of still water. My instructor, Kelsey, told us all to work on our falls as soon as we got on the ice. I got with my partner and worked on my falling and getting up. We had been practicing for about five minutes when I took a bad angle on my way down. My wrists slipped out from under me when I tried to correct myself and my chin slammed into the ice. Everything went black for a moment and all I could hear was my own heart. When my vision started to return, I saw Kelsey standing over me and asking if I was okay. Using Superman as a symbol, Ondrasik unveils the hardship of living up to the expectations of society. Due to his unique abilities and powers, society expects nothings less than perfection from Superman. Having lost his family and home planet It is not easy to be [Superman]. Superman has to fight everything that society tells him to so that he can be himself. He is put on a high pedestal in society and is expected to perform in tough situations. Many people in the world look up to Superman due to his special powers. Society assumes Superman s life is easy and perfect since he has these powers which make a mockery of mere mortals but it is not. Superman wishes people did not think so much of him and tries hard to please everyone. Frustration builds up and Superman feels like killing himself (hence the kryptonite). Superman simply cannot make a mistake since he is always expected to succeed. Similarly, many people in our society are put on high pedestals. Even students like ourselves, are expected to receive straight A s and never score inadequate on a test. Eventually, when these students receive a mediocre grade, they are ashamed of themselves. These students are frightened to inform their parents since their expectations are so high. Athletes are also put under tremendous pressure to perform in big games. Failing is simply not an option. If one fails to succeed, the loss will follow them around for the rest of their lives. A stamp of failure will revolve around their name. Similarly, Superman feels like he is put on a high pedestal. Society does not let Superman cry or dreamsince he is not a normal person. He is not expected to cry or dream . His duty is to protect Earth from deleterious villains and he does not have a choice to say no. Society needs to be less naive and understand that reaching perfection is not possibly. Male Masochism in the Religious Lyrics of Donne and Crashaw The impetus of my psychoanalytic exploration of male masochism in Donne and Crashaw occurs in Richard Rambuss s Pleasure and Devotion: The Body of Jesus and Seventeenth Century Religious Lyric, in which he opens up possibilities for reading eroticism (especially homoeroticism) in early modern representations of Christ s body. In this analysis, Rambuss opposes Caroline Walker Bynum who, in response to Leo Steinberg s The Sexuality of Christ in Renaissance Art, claims that depictions of Christ s genitalia (the focus of Steinberg s work) can only be regarded as erotic from a modern standpoint, for such representations in historical context, before the advent of modern... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The main objection to such an analysis arises from assumptions underlying the rigid dichotomy of spiritual/erotic the insistence that that which is spiritual cannot be erotic, especially when joined to physical or mental pain. Bynum s rationale for denying the possibilities of erotic meanings in medieval and Renaissance texts lies not only in the distinction of the sexual/generative, but also in this binary of spiritual/erotic. As Rambuss notes, Bynum refuses to acknowledge the erotic in medieval and Renaissance religious texts because it appears to be deeply implicated in morbid accounts of tortured flesh, a characteristic she finds extremely unerotic (178), thus implying that spirituality cannot be sexual (267). On the contrary, I would argue that the representation of spirituality in terms of physical and mental anguish does not preclude the erotic; indeed, it indicates its involvement in the erotic. Physical and mental torments lie at the heart of the erotic fantasies underlying Christian mysticism and, in varying degrees, the discourses of medieval and early modern Christianity, a belief system that revolves around the central sacrifice of Christ. As Julia Kristeva has commented, a whole ascetic, martyrizing, and sacrificial Christian tradition has magnified the victimized aspect of that offering [Christ s death] by eroticizing both pain and suffering, physical as well as mental, as much as possible (131). ... • 37. The Political Economy Model Of Migration Policy Gary Freeman suggests the gap between rhetoric and reality is best described in a political economic account of migration policy. The political economy model of migration is modelled on the interests of three sets of rational actors: voters, organised groups and state actors who attempts to maximize their individual goals subject to state interests in different contexts (Freeman, 2002). The first is post industrial change, which suggests stances on immigrationpolicy are better viewed as interests defined by social groups (Freeman, 2002: 84). The second is the spatial account, where the population compete for finite resources in densely settled areas exacerbated by strong advocates of immigration in these locations, such as businesses which could help explain the gap between rhetoric and action. The third is the international approach, where state protectionism regulates the trade of goods and people. If immigration is economically beneficial to the state, it will continue regardless of public sentiments. As social welfare effects are key determinants of a countries migration policy , if migration stimulates the economy, it will have a positive impact on society (Freeman, 2002: 88). Liberal and International Norms Liberal norms influence policy outcomes. Hollifield is concerned with the political interests that drive migration policy in the face of liberalism. • 38. Positive And Negative Effects Of Gender Stereotyping Throughout society there are many different cultural and social perceptions that allow people to form judgmental beliefs about society. Encompassed within these perceptions are stereotypes and prejudice. Stereotypes and prejudice are examples of categorizations of people which allow our brains to fill in the types or interactions that may happen with people. There are different positive and negative forms of stereo types and prejudicethat effect our interaction with individuals resulting in judgmental affliction upon individuals or groups. This essay will analyze and provide examples of the positive and negative effects of genderstereotyping and prejudice. Stereotyping can come in many different forms and have many different subjects. One form of stereotyping is of gender. Just about everyone holds stereotypes of women and men some positive and some negative. Women are more empathic and talkative; men are more competent and aggressive. For example, are women really more empathic than men? Which women? Empathic toward whom? When women s and men s actual behavior is observed systematically under a variety of conditions, the sexes do not differ in having feelings of empathy or in its expression (book, p. 365). Social pressures influence how we conform to these stereotypes, however it does create a problem when people are victimized by the negative stereotypes of their gender or group. There are different connotations that can be identified when stereotyping: positive, women are better caregivers and men are better breadwinners or money makers. These positive connotations can be taken negative towards the other gender or even their own gender men can be caretakers too and women can make money. In the early 1900 s there was a high discrimination towards women, women entering the work force worked in factory lines, while men worked management which resulted in lower pay for women kept the men in charge. Over the years gender roles have taken a turn and there is now a significant increase with women working and taking on management roles. Roles in society are different between genders and those differences either positive or negative will hopefully diminish after time. Prejudice often ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Mnr Influence On America Since its birth in the late 18th century, the United States has arguably had one of the greatest global presences in human history. It has left its impact on most, if not all, nations currently in existence. In the past century, the United States has helped develop and manage many different countries around the world. In recent years the goal of this nation building and managing came in response to the spreading of communistic ideals. The United States, being a democratic and capitalistic nation, helped many nations avoid being led by communistic regimes. United States intervention has helped to prevent dictatorships, oppression, and genocide around the globe. Many of these interventions came during a key period of time of communistic ideology... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The spreading of communistic ideals was a, if not the, primary focus of U.S. foreign policy. Even though both of these countries are thousands of miles and multiple continents away, the manner in which the U.S. intervened in both of these countries is strikingly similar. While communism was the root of both of these countries interventions, the MNR was not nearly as dangerous of a communist threat as the North Korean government. The communistic goals of the oppressive North Korean government were a much greater threat to democracy than the primarily economic goals that the MNR had. This is why war was imminent in Korea but in Bolivia it remained relatively peaceful. While both countries received financial and provisional aid from the United States, the reasoning behind this aid was different. In Bolivia the United States gave this aid in an attempt to stabilize their government and keep making economic profit from the tin industry in Bolivia. While aid in Korea was less for United States gain and more for the retention of democracy. Economically speaking, the case of Bolivia and South Korea turned out to have an extremely different impact. The aid that was given to Bolivia, in turn ruined their economy and drove them into deeper and deeper reliance upon the United States. In South Korea however, the South Korean people were able to capitalize on the aid they were given and turn it into a highly functional and profiting society. This is possibly because the Bolivians were never able to diversify their countries source of revenue as South Korea was able to, with it coming primarily from tin and oil. To this day the Bolivian people still have a dependence on the American government where the Korean and American government can almost be seen as equals. In this essay taken from the online volume Endangered Virtues published by the Hoover Institute in 2012, Damon initially concedes that there are situations where lying could be considered acceptable. However, with that being acknowledged, he transitions to his main premise that honesty is losing its importance in society and will lead to its downfall, and he cites examples in politics, law, journalism, and business in contemporary society where dishonesty is expected, and even, condoned. The Madheshi parties had refused to endorse the new constitution until their demands were met. Analysis Of Mill On The Floss By George Eliot This research report reviews scholarly criticism on the much debated character MAGGIE TULLIVER from the book Mill on the floss written by George Eliot. The project I propose analyses Maggie s character as a whole. The report will begin by discussing the critics point of view of various reasons responsible for the death of Maggie Tulliver. The report then focuses on how society and how her relationships lead to her downfall from the point of view of various critics. A part of my report also critically analyses the death of Maggie Tulliver. Lastly my report discusses about the inner conflicts of Maggie and how those conflicts eventually lead to her fate. In the 1300s, Dante Alighieri wrote three parts to the epic poem, The Divine Comedy, an imaginary story about himself. Dante is given a tour of the three different sections of Heaven: Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso. Alighieri puts Dante through innumerable experiences that change him as The Divine Comedyprogresses. Before Dante s journey through Inferno, he realizes his current way of life is not on the true path . In other words, Dante is not living life the way he should purely and without sinning. Alighieri compares this feeling to being alone in a dark wood; as he says in line three of Canto I. When Virgilcalls to Charon to take them to the circles of hell, Dante passes out because he is overwhelmed and frightened. This event shows that he is shocked and not prepared for the things he is about to go through. The second circle is filled with the lustful souls. These souls are punished by being constantly blown by wind, preventing them from finding tranquility. • 50. The Qing Dynasty Ruled China Essay Often referred to as the Last Great Dynasty, The Qing Dynasty ruled China for over three centuries. The Qing were a proud dynasty and relied little upon foreign trade and influences to grow their economy. This was partly because The Qing were a self sufficient society. Another reason for the denial of Western influences was due to The Qing s great pride of their own culture. Any acceptance of Western influences would dilute the values and traditions of The Qing. That being said, The Qing did allow a trivial amount of foreign trade to take place in the Port of Canton. The refusal to allow Western influences, the lack of knowledge of the importance of foreign relations and the continued reliance of Confucian teachings all played a part in the demise of The Qing Dynasty. The modernization of China would not be possible without the rebellion of 1911. The failure to realize the importance of foreign relationships cannot be overlooked when it comes to the fall of The Qing Dynasty. King George III of Britain, in an attempt to convince Qian Long to allow the British access to other ports of trade, along with a few other requests, sent Lord Macartney to China. These requests were extraordinary in the eyes of Qian Long and were ultimately denied. Lord Macartney failed on his mission to petition Qian Long to open more ports for transactions.
