Love Sick Play Analysis
The theatrical performance Love Sick directed by the polished Mr. Landmann and performed by the
talented pupils of Desert Hot Springs High School is a fascinating play filled with entertaining,
amusing and even dramatic scenes. I attended this humorous play on October 27 at 3:30 pm, the first
play performed. The play is built off of nine separate acts all based upon the seek for authentic love.
The play was predominantly about nine separate acts which were all relatively similar. All acts have
distinct backgrounds, but they all involve the two characters striving for true love regardless if the
two just met or they have known each other for years. In my opinion, the play went along smoothly
and everything was comprehensible, but the only event

Analysis Of ' As You Like It, A Play Written By William...
As you like it, a play written by William Shakespeare in 1623, is a comical interpretation of the
antithesis that exists between living in nature versus living in a society. The play addresses
philosophical dilemmas that are directly connect to the behavior of the characters. Throughout the
comparison of these two settings, the reader is exposed to various levels of human interaction. The
first one relates to how the characters participate as a community. And the second one approaches
familial relationships that demonstrate individual fluctuations depending of where the characters
interact. To capture this theme, the author relies on the use of juxtaposition and dynamic characters.
Consequently, Shakespeare highlights the irony of human behavior by exposing dynamic characters
to two different settings, The Forest of Arden and the Court. The play ultimately suggests that
interacting with nature creates a utopian society that contrasts with a hierarchical court, thus
demonstrating how the characters can reinvent themselves in roles that were inaccessible to them
before. Initially, the play begins by introducing a familial conflict between two brothers, Orlando
and Oliver. Orlando is the starting character of the play and his dialogue describes how his brother
treats him. He states that, "My brother...keeps me rustically at home" (4). He continues emphasizing
the evilness of his brother's treatment by mentioning that "horses are bred better" (4) and how

Personal Narrative Essay: I Am The Hero Of The Team
At only eleven years old I find myself in Atlanta, Georgia in Sudden Death overtime at the ASGR
Summer Jam Sophomore division and it is the first time I had ever seen this format in girls'
basketball. We take first possession in overtime. After a swift drive to the bucket and foul, I am at
the free throw line to win the game. I am thinking," If I make these two free throws GAME OVER
and I will be the hero of the team." But, let us not jump the broom before getting married. It is in
April of 2015 and we are about to kick off our annual youth AAU basketball season. The head coach
from renowned AAU program, Below the Rim, reached out to my dad to recruit me to play for his
high school team. We discussed it as a family; however, we were reluctant because of the ... Show

The only thing that was on my mind all week and on the flight, was me playing with the older girls.
Before I knew it, I am lacing up getting ready for show time. I was taking the court against fifteen–
year–old players from a great Team Ohio program. I did not start the game. It was pretty early in the
game when the coach called my name to sub in. As a matter of fact, it was a dog fight. I was still
nervous, but I played my hardest. After a few minutes, I got a steal then scored my first bucket. This
is when I realized I was able to play at this level. This dog fight ended up going into overtime. This
was the first time I was introduced to this concept "Sudden Death" over time. Before we tipped off
the officials came over to us and explained: "The first team to take a lead of two points wins the
game." We win tip and coach called a timeout and draws up a play for me to drive baseline and
shoot a floater. The play went exactly as coach designed it. Everything went well except that the
floater rimmed out. The opposing team got the rebound and advanced the ball to get a wide–open
layup. We

The Issues of Culture and Gender in Bend It Like Beckham...
The Issues of Culture and Gender in Bend It Like Beckham
Culture and gender are the two main issues of 'Bend it like Beckham'. In this film gender is put
across by using sex and religion, but it is much more complex than that. Race, sex, religion and
beliefs should not stop you getting a job; or achieving what you want in life. In 'Bend it like
Beckham' all Jess wants to play football, however because of her religious and cultural beliefs her
mom says this is not possible. In this essay I will be discussing the different cultures and genders
issues in 'Bend it like Beckham'.
Throughout the film Indian beliefs are portrayed by Jess and her family, this is showed by Jesses
parents always ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first time Jules's mother meets Jess she is surprised that she plays football with her religion.
Plus she is surprised that her name is Jess in till she finds out her real name is Jesminder.
Gender is an issue in 'Bend it like Beckham' it is shown in mainly ways. Firstly when Jess is playing
football in the park and Jules says she is good and she should play for her football team. After this
the boys she was playing football with say to Jess and Jules will you take your shirts off at the end
of the game. Another gender issue is when her mom finds out jess has been playing football behind
her back. Then her mother says an Indian girl should not be playing football, they should be
cooking. Finally her dad does not want her play not just because of her religion. He does not want
her play because when he first moved from India to England he was the best at a sport, but because
of he was Indian he was not allowed to play and he doesn't want her to get caught. In one part of the
play Jess gets red carded for fighting on the pitch. She did this because another girl made her a racist
remark at Jess and called her a 'paki'. She said to Jules this really hurt her. This shows gender and
cultures issues because she is being abused about her Asian backgrounds, which she wants to
defend.

The Different Types of Sports Essay
"Sports are for fun, but they also offer benefits and lessons that carry over into all aspects of life".
This well–known anonymous quotation conveys the message that sport is the game which has some
rules and custom. It is not only for fun and entertainment, but there are also some benefits of playing
sports and which gives some important lessons for life. Every kind of physical sports is healthy
because it involves running, jumping, stretching, mind skills and much more. There are so many
sports available in the world nowadays, but we can categorize them by the numbers of players, the
three main categories are individual sport, dual sport and team sport. The first category of sports is
individual sports, in which a person can play ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You can play these sports whenever you are free, or in school, it refreshes the person and gives him
new energy through which the person performs well in his/her life. Other kind of sports is dual
sports. It is played by two people at one time. For example: tennis, squash, ping pong, wrestling, car
racing, board games, motorcycling, and many more. These games are good for all the people, but
especially good for those people who are afraid of facing group of people during game and cannot
perform well in sports with teams those kinds of person can choose dual sports in which only two
person can play the game and through this that person can gain the potential playing with team and
can build his confidence as well as personality. In addition, it also provides physical and mental
strength to cope with team players. You can play these games with your friends in school or at home
and in your leisure time. It keeps a person fresh and gives him/her peace of mind.
The last category of sport is team sport. In which a group of people works together to help the team
wins. It is played between two teams who against each other and give their possible efforts to
achieve the target or goal. Basketball, water polo, softball, baseball, football, soccer, lacrosse,
croquet, swimming teams, volleyball, cricket, etc. are some good examples of team sports. A person

Two Things That Play An Important Role In Jane's Life
Reactions: Throughout this episode I felt stressed for Jane. Choosing between two things that play
an important role in the life of someone is extremely hard to do. She is faced with the overwhelming
pressures of impressing her father or pursuing what will help her get by in life. She is constantly
pressured by Rogelio more than anyone, considering he wants her to be apart of his life on
television. While this is happening, Michael (Jane's ex–fiance), is working with his partner to crack
down on their "Sin Rostro" (big–time drug dealer who has not been identified) case. Michael is
stuck on the notion that Rafael is Sin Rostro, but it is partly due to Michael's hatred towards Rafael.
Meanwhile, Rafael is trying his best to impress Xiomara in ... Show more content on

I am constantly faced with the decision of choosing between my friends, working, and the sport I
play, but it always works out in the end. I am glad that I do not have to make such a life–altering
decision yet.
Beautiful writing: "But Jane, this is a tough business. You can't look to others to validate you. If you
choose to make a living in the financial arts, you must believe in yourself." Rogelio speaking with
Jane. I chose this quote because Rogelio does a good job of putting emphasis in what will really
play a role in how her life will be with the career she is choosing. What he says is true; no one but
yourself is able to motivate you and make you successful. Having belief in yourself is more
important than anything else when it comes to success.
Main argument: The main argument of this episode is that no matter what kind of pressures someone
might be facing, it is important that he or she chooses what feels right to them.
One character: This episode definitely shows a lot of character change in Rafael; it is shown that he
is concerned with impressing/winning over Xiomara. It shows how much his character has changed
with Jane. Before Jane, he would not even have considered to be concerned with the mother's
approval of the girl he is trying to

Have Fun While Doing Workout Essay
Have fun while doing workouts– here are the games that transform work into play
Almost everyone is running behind a machine life in this era. People have lots of works to do in
their life. And for some, exercise is just one more work in their routine. Some will be frustrated
while doing workouts. It is easy to lose motivation during the weight reduce plan. So, making the
workout fun is the most important thing; for this, it is better to try a physical activity that actually
brings the fun out of the person.
Sports are the perfect choice for this. But for the people who don't have the competitive attitude,
play based workouts are the best and simpler alternative. Plenty of science suggests that play is the
best activity for brains of adults. The real reason behind turning a workout into a play station is
people should encourage and induce working out.

One person should hold the cards. Both players should be in a split–squat position. To start playing,
take a large step forward with the right leg, descending till the left leg almost touches the ground. At
tom of the split–squat both the knees will form right angles. The knee should be above the toe but it
should not be in front.
In this situation, the player with the deck throws one card at a time towards their partner. The partner
must catch cards while they maintain their lung position, they can lean left, right, up, and down to
catch the card. The partner can try to catch 5–10 cards, then they can rest and they can switch the
legs and they can change thrower and catcher roles.
Fitness benefits of the game
Leaning aside from side to side and reaching up and down will increase the core stability to all the
movements. Trying to maintain the position will mean to balance and the player has to prepare for
the unexpected shifts.

The Children's Hour by Lilly Hellman
Lillian Florance "Lilly" Hellman is deemed as one of the first important American woman
dramatists. She lived up to her last name by challenging the American public with unpopular beliefs
of Communism as well as other non–traditional beliefs causing herself to be blacklisted by the
House Committee on Un–American Activities. She was born in an affluent, Jewish family on June
20, 1905 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Her mother, Julia Newhouse, stemmed from a successful
bankers and liquor dealers, while her father, Max Hellman, was a lucrative shoe salesman. She
attended New York University for two years after graduating from high school then transferred to
briefly attend Columbia University. In 1929, Hellman traveled Europe and settled in Bonn to
continue with her education. At the same time, she became attracted to a Nazi student group which
advocated for a form of socialism. However, Hellman immediately returned to the United States
after being pressed about her Jewish heritage. She became a short–term member of the Communist
Party from 1938 to 1940 in America. However, Hellman drifted away from the Communist Party
because it seemed to be the wrong place for her. She described her "own maverick nature [to be] no
more suitable to the political left than it had been to the conservative background from which [she]
came." Lilly Hellman's career began and grew during "a time when writers were celebrities and their
recklessness was admirable". Along with being a restless dramatist,

Bison Offense
Last night in Dayton, at Welcome stadium the Belmont Bison hosted the Bulldogs from Woodward
high school, out of Cincinnati. Belmont has shown a very high octane running offense at times this
season, while the Bulldogs has been up and down not only only offense but defense as well.
Things got start with a bang, when Dawson Martin took off for a sixteen–yard run, showing speed
and nice field vision. Martin would close out the drive on a 2–yard run to make this a,6–0 game. A
two point conversion run by,Elijah Malcolm made the score,8–0, with 9:05 left in the quarter.

Martin converted the conversion run to make this a,32–6 game. The other play on the drive came on
a seventy–four–yard run by Dorrick Conner.
In watching this much of the game the one question that popped in my head was,how did Liberty
Union shut out this Belmont team/ I have seen Liberty Union earlier this season in their blowout win
over the Tigers, from Columbus East.
Woodward had to know this game was all but over at the 5:38 mark of the 2nd quarter, so they
decided to go for it on fourth down, needing fourteen–yards for the first down, deep in their own
territory. The decision went from bad to worse when Reliford was called for intentional grounding,
giving the ball to Belmont at the Bulldogs nine–yard line.
The Bison scored on their next play, when quarterback Justin Young ran in the end zone. Another
two point conversion run was successful, this time by Malcom to make this a,40–6 game.
Belmont's offense was back at work at the 3:37 mark of the quarter with Young running for
eighteen–yards. Young would be sacked on the drive by #17(not on either roster I have)for a short
loss at the 1:36 mark of the quarter. The drive ended on a 39–yard pass from Young to a wide–
opened Ja'don Rucker–furlow with :52 showing on the clock. This time it would be Dorrick Conner

Themes Of The Play ' Two Trains Running '
"The themes of the play are Two Trains Running is a political play that makes extended reference to
the black power movement and its impact on poor urban communities like the Hill District of
Pittsburgh. The issue of continued white oppression of African Americans and the response of the
black community during the 1960s is at the foreground of the characters ' experience. The
community surrounding the restaurant is undergoing a major redevelopment, probably one which
has been precipitated by the social initiatives that came in the wake of the civil rights movement.
However, the legal rights and privileges that the African American community won during the 1950s
and 1960s do not seem necessarily to extend to impoverished city–dwellers. An underlying sense of
tragedy and hopelessness pervades even short–term victories such as the city awarding Memphis

The Real Inspector Hound Essay
Argument of a play: A–play–within–a–play in "The Real Inspector Hound."
"The Real Inspector Hound" is a play by Tom Stoppard whose plot follows two theater critics called
BirdBoot and Moon as they attended a play in London. The play also traces the narrative arc of the
two theater critics as well as the narrative arc of the murder mystery play that they are assigned to
review. In the play, Tom Stoppard provides a story and a one–act parody play about the nature of
role playing in a detective fiction. This paper explores the play–within–a–play as explored by
Stoppard where by the end of the play, both the internal and external play becomes entangled and
becomes almost impossible to separate. A play–within–a–play is where a play is presented ... Show

In the play, the main characters operate within two structural units. For example, they acquire a
single identity in the play as their actual identities and another in the inner play as their fictive
identities. The internal, which is the play–within–a–play and the external which is the Stoppard's
play are intimately connected with the play only functioning when it includes the play–within–a–
play and the play–within–a–play highly necessitates the external play's context. However, the
distinction that exists between their identities between the plays is not that absolute. The line that
separates the characters becomes weaker as they move across the boundary that separates the inner
from the outer play. This is replicated in the line separating the reality of the world from the fiction
of the Muldoon Manor's world. Stoppard was able to provide a suggestion of the nature of role
playing as well as the power of illusion over reality through his creation of a rigid structural
demarcation line after which he violates the line through the entrance into the play by his

Play Review Essay: Dry Land Production
After doing some research on the production Dry Land, I went into the play with a lack of
understanding on just how deep the play would actually be. Going in, I assumed the production
would cover some controversial topics, but I didn't understand just how serious it would be. The
story line for this rendition of the production was very similar to the "standard" versions I had read
about. Some of factors that contributed to the likeness of the rendition of this production were that it
took place in a Florida high school, in the locker room of a girl's swim team. The play here at Ball
State starred two young high schoolers which was a dead match for the standard production of Dry
Land. The original set for this production was a locker room in a high school which was ... Show

The first words you hear are "punch me" which blows your mind. It makes you ask, "why would
someone want to be punched?". As the play goes on you find out why and it makes you take a step
back to realize just how serious this topic is. Just like the production A Chorus Line, you felt for the
characters and that connection you had with them only developed more and more throughout the
production. One example of this would be how one of the main characters, "Amy" felt throughout
the duration of the play. Amy felt that she was alone, and no one would be there for her while she
was enduring something that no child should ever have to undergo by themselves. The second
example would be "Ester" who was so willing to do anything Amy asked because she wanted
friendship and acceptance so badly. The beginning of the play was filled with Ester constantly
asking if she was punching her correctly or could do anything to help Amy. This really connects to
us as young adults and adolescents because we are constantly looking for acceptance from our peers.
This was shown very clearly through the characterization of Ester throughout the

'Our Day Out' is a written play by Willy Russell that reflects on the life the lower class of England

comedic. There are two teachers in the play, both with contrasting personalities,Mrs Kay a very

Point Guard Vs Shooting Guard Essay
I'm comparing and contrasting two basketball positions, point guard and shooting guard. These two
positions are alike and different in many ways. One way I'm focusing on is, what are their
responsibilities? The next thing that I'm focusing on is, do these two players work together? The last
thing that I'm focusing on is how tall do you have to be for these two positions?
Some people may think that point and shooting guards do the same thing. Most of the things they do
are similar, but there are some differences. One similarity is that, they both have to control the ball
while getting the players to understand the plays. In contrast, one thing that the point guard does that
the shooting guard doesn't is bring the ball down the court. The ... Show more content on

They also have to work with the post. On the other hand, shooting guard kind of has to switch gears
because they have to be near the ball, but at the same time be somewhere that they can shoot. They
both have to help so that the ball can get near the basket and so that someone can put it up. While
doing this, the point has to have nice slick passes to get the ball around. When help is being needed
they both have to make sure they're there because their teammates are going to pass it to one of
them. It is exciting but it takes skill for these two positions.
There are really tall people that play basketball, but that is not an requirement. You don't have to
really have height to play these two positions. In comparison, the point and shooting guards are
usually the shortest ones on the team. People also think that the point guard Is the shortest one on
the team. Good news is they don't have to be! On the other hand, shooting guard is the shortest one
on the team. The post are the taller ones that's why they are there to shoot.
What I learned from researching these two positions are that they can be really fun to be on a
basketball team. I also learned that basketball is not easy and it is a physical sport. Basketball is one
of the well known sports and people play it all throughout the country. These similarities and
differences has helped me understand what some positions really

Play Affecting A Child's Development
How play can affect the ability to develop social skills and how it can be implemented in an
educational setting to help build relationships.
Play can be overlooked in the school setting by those who are unaware of the possibilities it can
bring and how it can influence a child's development. I will discuss how play techniques can be used
to help the child develop their social skills; what types of play can support development and what
types of play and hinder a child's development. This essay seeks to show the importance of play in a
learning setting and how it can help build relationships.
(MacIntyre, 2011, p. 29) states that "The study of play and that of child development naturally
complement each other". This supports the idea that children can develop socially through play.
Social competence needs to be obtained to have a positive interaction with peers, to build
relationships and to nurture friendships (Johnson et al., 1999). There are many different types of
play that can impact of social development. "Mildred Parten differentiated the social development of
children into three levels" (Xu, 2010, p. 490).
One level of play that may impact social development is parallel play. Parallel activity is where

Compare the Endings in Two Different Theatre of the Absurd...
Harold Pinter and Samuel Beckett are two of the biggest exponents of The Theatre of the Absurd.
Both of their works present a world which cannot be logically explained, where the scenery, the
language and the actions of the characters are almost incomprehensible and do not comply with the
previously accepted norms of theatre. J.L Styan writes about Pinter. "His audience is made to feel,
through an exquisite friction of nightmare and normality, the earthly need for security" (The Dark
Comedy) I think this quote applies to Beckett too, however. Both of the plays I will look at are very

Stanley, is a grumpy, ungrateful character, I think Pinter tries to encourage an instant dislike of him
in the reader. The conversations are short throughout the section until the arrival of Goldberg and

motives and emotions e.g. we are given no reason for Stanley's breakdown when they are playing
blind mans buff, all we can assume is that it is the work of Goldberg and Mccann that has caused
him to behave in this way. "Pinter refuses to provide rational explanations for his characters"
(www.imagi–nation.com) It is this deliberate withholding of information that adds to the sense of
mystery and absurdity, doom and uncertainty. This is how Pinter builds up the sense of tension
because, often, the reader assumes something worse than what is the actual reality in the play. The
use of language helps to build the sense of tension in another way too; we see characters controlling

Comparison and Analysis of the Influence the Characters of...
Sexual tension leads to a highly charged, dramatic demise for Blanche and Eddie
The characters of Blanche and Eddie are closely linked by several factors, including the reasons
behind their cantankerous endings in the plays "A Streetcar Named Desire" and "A View from the
Bridge". Williams and Miller characterize Blanche and Eddie through their sexuality, which is a
very important theme in both plays.
Both characters show traces of mental instability; Blanche perhaps more–so than Eddie, as
throughout the play there are constant reminders to the audience that Blanche's already feeble
mental state is deteriorating. For example, when Blanche recalls the death of her 'young husband',
Tennessee Williams cleverly has the music of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ultimately as they are both strong characters, one of the two has to come out a victor of their rivalry.
Stanley is strong but Blanche successfully establishes a foothold in his house during the first third of
the play and even shames him into acting somewhat 'sheepishly' by the end of scene one. However,
Blanche's ascendancy does not last long and eventually we see Stanley regain his primitive
masculine supremacy. This then progresses towards the end of the play, to complete lack of respect
for Blanche herself, as in scene ten a drunk Stanley rapes her while her sister is in hospital; an
unpleasant 'victory' over a weakened Blanche is the very peak of tension between the two.
The main tension experienced in "A View from the Bridge" is due to the great contrast between how
Eddie sees Catherine, and how she sees him. In Eddie's world, he imagines protecting Catherine
from marriage or any male relationship and wants her for himself. While Eddie wavers and switches
between communal and state laws and cultures to discriminate against Rodolpho, his motivations do
not change, regardless of the fact it is often at the expense of others. Throughout the play, Miller
creates uncomfortable situations for the reader/viewer, caused by the emergence of Eddie's unusual
'love' for Catherine. This is shown in particular in act one, when Catherine

The Call, Os Guinness
Major Essay #3 In his book, "The Call" Os Guinness presents the biblical definition of calling for
the Christian. Guinness brings clarity to what true Biblical calling is, and how it should affect our
lives. Guinness present the skewed modern conception of calling, that is not at all biblical, and
shatters its ideas. Throughout "The Call", Guinness explains how calling should transform our lives,
and influence everything that we do. Guinness explains that there are two different types of calling
that work together; primary and secondary. First, Guinness explains the concept of a primary calling
that every Christian receives. This primary call declares that Christians are called "by Him, to Him
and for Him." (Pg. 31) He then further explains that "we are called to Someone (God), not to
something (such as motherhood, politics or teaching) or to somewhere (such as the inner city or
Outer Mongolia)." (Pg. 31) Guinness presents his idea on primary calling as a calling directly to
relationship with God that every believer receives before anything else. It would be foolish to think
that one receives a "calling" to serve in a specific church as a pastor before they ever become a
believer. Even further, Guinness argues that "Neither work, nor career can be fully satisfying
without a deeper sense of calling–but "calling" itself is empty and indistinguishable from work
unless there is Someone who calls." (Pg. 37) Our primary calling it to God as believers and no one
else, and if we

Penalty Killing In Youth Hockey
How coaches undertake penalty killing in youth hockey varies upon the age, skill level, and number
of players on a team. I outlined the basic concepts in Chapter 11 but felt coaches of older teams or
teams with more advanced personnel would require a more in depth discussion. In particular, if you
wish to use all the skaters on a team with three forward lines and six defensemen – the roster
regularly seen in minor hockey – you will use combinations entirely different from a team with four
forward lines. This appendix shows the thought process to follow and a chart you can easily copy to
set your rotations if you have three lines. Use this information in conjunction with the text in

the box and play one of the defensive pairs twice during the penalty. As an example, if we label the
defense pairs as A, B and C, and assuming a defenseman from A takes a penalty, I would play B,
then C and come back with B. At thirty–five seconds for each shift, one minute and forty–five
seconds will have expired in the penalty. On the fourth rotation, I would follow the suggestion in the
earlier bullet point and pair the defenseman from A with a forward, awaiting the other A defenseman
when the penalty

Racism In The Play 'Two Towns Of Jasper' By Moises Kaufman
Racism is a global problem where societies subject individuals with certain attributes that are judged
as inferior or superior to special treatment [3]. Although its prevalence is waning off, this problem is
very old. It would also be quite difficult to eradicate racism from our societies completely. This is
due to the obvious variations in people's religion, color, geographic location, culture and economic
factors such as social class [3]. Whereas eradication of racism might sound impossible, the society
can make enormous achievement in curbing its influence on most of the world's communities.
Moises Kaufman along with the Tectonic Theatre Project produced a play "The Laramie Project"
between the years 2000 and 2002 [2]. Based on the murder of a student in Laramie city, the play ...

Two towns of Jasper is a documentary that explains the influence of racism on the minds of people
in Texas and the world based on complexion. Some individuals of white origin killed Byrd Jr. – a
black American [1].
The aftermath of the incidence in Texas increased publicity regarding the rights of both African and
white individuals. Citizens of American, irrespective of their color have a right to live anywhere in
the country and to exercise their liberty of interaction [1]. Differences in cultural values, perceptions
and life priorities make it difficult for many communities to fight hatred and violence between their
people. The media's participation raised awareness on how people from the two groups perceive
each other but increased tension between them. The white community perceives its black
counterpart as a possible source of danger as it tries to deflect away its involvement. It is, therefore,
essential for communities to induce a perception within its members that would make them embrace
unity and break any possible racial

Susan Glaspell's A Jury Of Her Peers
In 1917, Susan Glaspell rewrote her 1916 Play, "Trifles," into a short story called "A Jury of her
Peers." They both depict a group of townspeople investigating the murder of Mr. Wright. It is
suspected that Mrs. Minnie Wright, his wife, is the murderer. As the story goes on, the women in the
group figure out she committed the murder but decide to hide evidence to keep her from being
convicted. Susan Glaspell wrote a short story titled "A Jury of her Peers" mirroring a previous play
that she had written titled "Trifles." There are slight changes and variations between these two that
make them surprisingly different. By comparing the characters point of view, the way the story is
introduced, and the plot we can point out key differences between ... Show more content on

The titles of the two help set up the point of view that particular story is going to be told in. The
story named "A Jury of Her Peers" was named that because Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters, her peers,
basically decided the fate of Minnie. They both decided not to turn in the evidence and, in doing so,
more than likely kept her out of prison. The term "jury" used in the title is appropriate because the
whole story is depicting a group of townspeople who are investigating the murder scene to decide
her fate. Typically, a group of people deciding someone's fate is called a jury. In the play, "Trifles,"
Mr. Hale states that women are constantly "worrying over trifles" (Glaspell 561). Yet, these are the
same trifles that if the men paid attention to they would be able to get plenty of evidence against
Minnie. The introductions to the stories are also very different, in the story it starts way before they
get to Mrs. Wrights house. It actually starts at Mr. and Mrs. Hales house as the sheriff's buggy stops
to pick them up. This allows us to get a feel for the relationships between each of the characters. It
also allows us to understand why the women are there in the first place, the sheriffs wife, Mrs.
Peters, is there to get some of Mrs. Wrights things for her, and Mrs. Hale is there simply to keep
Mrs. Peters company. It states, "and then the sheriff came running in to say his wife wished Mrs.
Hale would come too––– adding, with a grin, that he guessed she was getting scarey and wanted
another woman along"(Glaspell 568). The story also gives a very descriptive view of the Mrs.
Wrights home, and namely her kitchen. This differs greatly from the play in the fact that the only
description of the setting that we get in the beginning of the play is a short scene description before
the character dialogue starts. There is no information to connect the characters in the

Compare the Theatrical Techniques and Staging in Act One...
Compare the theatrical techniques and staging in act one of Oleanna and Street Car Named Desire
The two plays Street car named desire and Oleanna are very different plays in their use of theatrical
devices. Tennesse Williams' play Street Car Named Desire gives us a long description of the New
Orleans world its based in. Describing the flats with the name "elysan fields" relating the to heaven
despite the appearance of the street that seems "falling apart at the fabric of the seems", the colour of
the sky "tender blue", even the smell of "bananas and coffee" making the set described seem more
exotic with the imagery of plantations. Whilst in David Mamet's play Oleanna we are simply told
how Carol is sitting opposite John who is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Oleanna doesn't seem to include stage directions other than the phone ringing and John either
igonoring it or picking it up.
Lighting is also an important theatrical technique used in Street Car Named Desire. It is especially
utillised in Almadova's fim interpretation of the play, as he uses the strong primary coloured lighting
pallette throughout. Stanley and the boys are given strong primary colours, shown by what they
wear and the description of the room often red and blue. This is excluding Mitch who wears checked
or soft colour shirts to highlight his difference to the other men in the play. Whilst Blanche has to
hide from the "natural light" and cover it with paper laterns, in an attempt to hide from the cruel
reality of life. In Oleanna there is no mention of lighting so again it is up to the audience or director
to imagine how the single room would be lit.
Music and sounds are another theatical technique often used is Street Car Named Desire. The blues
piano is often heard in the background of act one and throughout the play. Linking to the culture of
New Orleans and the political freedom and less disrciminatory nature of the area. There is also the
sound of the train that symbolises Stanley and his power and masculinity . The polka tune that
blanche hears in her head relating to her past and the "young boy" linking to her happy past, that
ends with the sound of a shot. Much like convesation stops with the phone ringing in

Having A Two-Handed Play Educating Rita
Educating Rita by Willy Russell
"Educating Rita", is a two–handed play which only has two characters and one set. "Educating Rita"
was written in 1985 by Willy Russell, it looks at how the relationship between two people, Rita and
Frank, develops as the play goes on. "Educating Rita" is the story of Rita, a hairdresser who decides
to go to University in order to discover who she really is. When she arrives at University she meets
Frank, a lazy alcoholic who doesn't really care about being a University lecturer. At first, Frank
refuses to teach Rita but he soon finds he has a soft spot for Rita and decides to teach her everything

That particular scene emphasised how their relationship was progressing and would not have been
highlighted as much if there were more characters in the play. Another benefit of having a two–
handed play is, as an audience we can concentrate particularly on just the two main characters, even
though we are told of others. As a result, we aren't distracted by insignificant characters or minor
concerns, this would only confuse the audience about what is going on in the play. There are many
characters that are mentioned in the play by Frank and Rita that we don't hear any dialogue from.
For example, we hear about Denny, Rita's husband, about Julia, Frank's partner, and about Trish,
Rita's flatmate, who attempts to kill herself. The financial and logistical implications are also a
benefit for "Educating Rita" being a two–handed play because, as there is only one set used in the
whole play, therefore, the play is cheaper to stage as they don't have to pay for another set to be built
or rented. Also more money is saved from the play's budget as the director only has to pay the wages
of two characters. More benefits of "Educating Rita" being a two–handed play are that minor
characters or concerns in the play do not distract the audience, therefore they can focus all their

Center is very well run and Ann, the side supervisor, makes sure that everything meets standards. I
have seen her in the early mornings observing classrooms with a checklist. When I let the lead
teachers know that we would be filling the ECERS out, they knew exactly what it was and both
mentioned that they had filled them out multiple times. In the majority of the categories, they scored
a seven. I am not sure if I was just being more lenient than I should have been, but the other student
filling this out with me got the same scores as I did when we compared them afterwards.
For the Space and furnishings category, they received an average of 6.62. Out of the eight sub
groups, they received a six on indoor space, child–related display, and gross motor equipment. The
other five categories all got sevens. The indoor space got a six because the windows do not open and
there is not any control over the ventilation in the room. The child–related display got a six because
there is not any three dimensional work done by the children on display in the room. The gross
motor equipment got a six because there is not gross motor equipment that would stimulate skills on
different levels. There are not any tricycles without pedals, there is not both a ramp and a ladder on
the climbing structure, and there is not different sized balls available for the children to play with. I

Religion In Shakespeare
While previous questions have all been fairly self–explanatory, it may be necessary to better define
what is meant when one asks "when were the plays done?" When this question is asked, a few
clearer topics must be addressed, such as what circumstances they were under, the time of day the
plays were performed, the settings of the plays, the span of the plays, and how long it took to write
the plays. The circumstances of the plays varied from play to play. Julius Caesar, for example, was
performed shortly after the Gunpowder Plot, and due to those circumstances, it may have been seen
by the audience as a warning against assassinating kings, yet "during the Palatinate crisis of 1619–
1620, when public opinion became polarized, and when the king's ... Show more content on

Aside from religious and political circumstances, personal events also affected the writing of the
plays–– Hamlet, for example, is directly related to both the death of Shakespeare's son Hamnet and
the drowning of Katherine Hamlett in the River Avon near Stratford in 1579 (MacInnes 213). The
sudden death of Hamnet relates to the murder of old Hamlet by his brother, Claudius, and the
drowning of Katherine Hamlett is most likely the inspiration of Ophelia's drowning. Circumstances
greatly affect how the plays are both written as well as interpreted. Another aspect of the question of
when the plays were done involves the time of day that the plays were performed. It is highly likely
that there were performances at any time of day, most commonly in the afternoon and evening,
although lighting may have proven to be an issue regarding some of the scenes depending on the
time of day (Robbins 68). As for the question of the setting, it depends on the play–– Julius Caesar,
for example, is set in Rome and is thus set much earlier than the medieval setting of Hamlet. The
questions of how long a play generally lasted and how long it took to write a play are tightly woven
together in several

Play Station Vs Xbox Essay
Despite bearing some superficial similarities, the differences between Xbox and Play Station are
clear. The revolutionary debate between the two systems has become extraordinary. Deciding about
which one to choose comes with the decision of the cost, the online gameplay, and the design of the
system.
Determining the cost of what you would like to spend on a system is very difficult. Because you do
want the one that has the best gameplay and visual appeals, right? "Which games are better may
ultimately come down to the types of titles you like to play, though, so there is always room for
debate." (Digital Trends Website) The cost of games for every system are the same, but as far as the
console, Play Station is cheaper. According to statistics in 2014, "Xbox one was retailed at $500
meanwhile the Play Station was marked at $400." (PC ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Most gamers do enjoy online gaming, and want the best possible system for that gameplay. As with

The design of the two systems are similar in the way that they are appealing to the eye. The "Xbox

Observational taxonomy as it relates to the nature of early social interaction, is a classification
system that uses a code of different behaviors that are seen when observing children during play and
non–play and is further divided into cognitive and social categories.
Amongst the many theorists, Mildred Parten and Jean Piaget are significant to the field of early
observational studies comprising of children in the free play atmosphere. Parten asserted that social
participation amongst preschool aged children amplified as the child's age increased (Parten 1932).

The Three Forms Of Play That Occur During The First Two...
Child's Play:
The First Two Years of Life
In the first two years of life play is both a reflection of and an influence on all areas of infant
development: intellectual, social, emotional and physical. Play is a central, all–encompassing
characteristic of infant development, allowing children to learn about the world and themselves.
Even during the first half–year of life infant's really do play, even though the interpretation of what
is play and what is exploration must first be established. The focus of this paper is to discuss three
forms of play that occur during the first two years of life. The work of Jean Piaget and other
psychologists in supporting and developing these ideas is critical. The first of these is sensorimotor
play ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first of these stages is primary circular reaction: When a baby accidentally discovers an
interesting sensory or motor experience related to its own body, and then continues to repeat it. This
type of behavior is typically seen between one to four months. This is evident through a description
of Piaget's own eight week old son Laurent "scratches and tries to grasp, lets go, scratches and
grasps again, etc... Laurent scratches the sheet which is folded over the blankets, then grasps and
holds it for a moment, then lets it go, scratches it again, and recommences without interruption"
(Piaget, 1963, p.191).
Laurent seems to be fascinated by the actions of grasping, scratching and letting go of the object and
shows little attention for the actual object he does it to. There is no actual attraction to the object
since Laurent would likely react to any object in a similar fashion as long as it was put directly in
front of him. Put a rattle in front of a three–month–old baby and the child will play with it by
shaking, chewing, or looking at it (Hughes, 1991).
The second stage is secondary circular reaction, and it appears at about four months. This stage is
similar to the first, except now the child enjoys the pleasing effects that their actions make in the
external world, and continue to repeat it. Piaget describes the actions of his son

members played by Jodie Le Vescont and Christopher Somers narrate the story 'Hoods' written by
Angelia Betzien, directed by Leticia Caceres and composed by Pete Goodwin and afforded the
ability to fast forward, rewind and pause time. It is an impressive theatre play, of three young

Much Ado About Nothing Benedick Essay
In my oral final, I will be exploring who the character Benedick is, from the comedic play Much
Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare. I will speak a little about his identity at the beginning
of the comedy, then who he is compared to metaphorically, and finally about the development of his
character throughout the play.
Initially, Benedick appears as a character meant entirely for comic relief, acting as if the most
crucial part of his personality is his wit and humor. However, by the end of the play he is noticed as
someone who can think clearly and make important decisions.
The biggest change in Benedick's character is risen from his relationship with Beatrice. And we can

"I did not think I should live till I were married" (Act 2 Scene iii). Through these quotes it is clearly

The Call, Os Guinness
In his book, "The Call" Os Guinness presents the biblical definition of calling for the Christian.
Guinness brings clarity to what true Biblical calling is, and how it should affect our lives. Guinness
presents the skewed modern conception of calling, that is not at all biblical, and shatters its ideas.
Throughout "The Call", Guinness explains how calling should transform our lives, and influence
everything that we do. Guinness explains that there are two different types of calling that work
together; primary and secondary. First, Guinness explains the concept of a primary calling that every
Christian receives. This primary call declares that Christians are called "by Him, to Him and for
Him." (Pg. 31) He then further explains that "we are called to Someone (God), not to something
(such as motherhood, politics or teaching) or to somewhere (such as the inner city or Outer
Mongolia)." (Pg. 31) Guinness presents his idea on the primary calling as a calling directly into
relationship with God that every believer receives before anything else.
37) Our primary calling it to God as believers and no one
else, and if we are

The Woman Of Black By Susan Hill
On the twenty–sixth of February 2014 our drama class travelled to The Fortune Theatre situated in
London to see the exhilarating adaptation of the thriller fiction novel The Woman In Black written
by Susan Hill that was adapted into a stage play by Stephen Mallatratt. The drama arose from many
sources and routes – particularly the production that was involved.
The Fortune Theatre is a very intimate auditorium, assembling the play to become have a more
excavating effect, and the audience to become more involved with the performance.
Interestingly, The Women In Black is now the second longest running play in the West End. It has
been running at The Fortune Theatre since February 1989 – one can effortlessly notify that the
production is exceedingly popular and innovative due to these given statuses. It is indisputably one
of the most bloodcurdling ghost stories relentlessly told on stage.
The Woman In Black was played by an uncredited actress, thus instigating that the play is performed
by only two actors: Arthur Kipps and The Actor who retells Kipps' story. Furthermore, The Woman
may have not been listed in the programme because of the extra effect that she will enhance when
she appears on the stage to frighten the audience.
Before I saw the play, I was very sceptical about the drama as I had expected it to be predictably
monotonous as I could not interpret how the production could make a live performance to be

depth and justice in the play, unpacking the different themes of the Common Man, water and

Underpinning the entirety of A Man For All Seasons, the corruption of individuals and of the
monarchy system is an issue which is brought to the forefront of the audience's mind. The audience
is consistently asked to question the strength of man to repeal the corruption of power and control,
and how people themselves can be so easily corrupted. Once again, the play represents this well,
using the Gilded Cup to clearly symbolize the corruption in the monarchy which then started the
catalyst of the play. In contrast to the play, the film marginalizes this important scene, limiting the
audience's opportunity to delve deeply into the meaning of the Gilded Cup. In addition to this, A
Man For All Seasons focuses on the rise of Richard Rich and the fall of Sir Thomas More. More
stays strong to his morals, resisting pressure of the monarchy. Juxtaposed with More, Richard
acquires more wealth and greater status by marginalizing his moral principles. This is an example of
how one man concedes to corruption while the other one remains strong to his

Love Sick Play Analysis

  • 1. Love Sick Play Analysis The theatrical performance Love Sick directed by the polished Mr. Landmann and performed by the talented pupils of Desert Hot Springs High School is a fascinating play filled with entertaining, amusing and even dramatic scenes. I attended this humorous play on October 27 at 3:30 pm, the first play performed. The play is built off of nine separate acts all based upon the seek for authentic love. The play was predominantly about nine separate acts which were all relatively similar. All acts have distinct backgrounds, but they all involve the two characters striving for true love regardless if the two just met or they have known each other for years. In my opinion, the play went along smoothly and everything was comprehensible, but the only event ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Analysis Of ' As You Like It, A Play Written By William... As you like it, a play written by William Shakespeare in 1623, is a comical interpretation of the antithesis that exists between living in nature versus living in a society. The play addresses philosophical dilemmas that are directly connect to the behavior of the characters. Throughout the comparison of these two settings, the reader is exposed to various levels of human interaction. The first one relates to how the characters participate as a community. And the second one approaches familial relationships that demonstrate individual fluctuations depending of where the characters interact. To capture this theme, the author relies on the use of juxtaposition and dynamic characters. Consequently, Shakespeare highlights the irony of human behavior by exposing dynamic characters to two different settings, The Forest of Arden and the Court. The play ultimately suggests that interacting with nature creates a utopian society that contrasts with a hierarchical court, thus demonstrating how the characters can reinvent themselves in roles that were inaccessible to them before. Initially, the play begins by introducing a familial conflict between two brothers, Orlando and Oliver. Orlando is the starting character of the play and his dialogue describes how his brother treats him. He states that, "My brother...keeps me rustically at home" (4). He continues emphasizing the evilness of his brother's treatment by mentioning that "horses are bred better" (4) and how "animals on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Personal Narrative Essay: I Am The Hero Of The Team At only eleven years old I find myself in Atlanta, Georgia in Sudden Death overtime at the ASGR Summer Jam Sophomore division and it is the first time I had ever seen this format in girls' basketball. We take first possession in overtime. After a swift drive to the bucket and foul, I am at the free throw line to win the game. I am thinking," If I make these two free throws GAME OVER and I will be the hero of the team." But, let us not jump the broom before getting married. It is in April of 2015 and we are about to kick off our annual youth AAU basketball season. The head coach from renowned AAU program, Below the Rim, reached out to my dad to recruit me to play for his high school team. We discussed it as a family; however, we were reluctant because of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The only thing that was on my mind all week and on the flight, was me playing with the older girls. Before I knew it, I am lacing up getting ready for show time. I was taking the court against fifteen– year–old players from a great Team Ohio program. I did not start the game. It was pretty early in the game when the coach called my name to sub in. As a matter of fact, it was a dog fight. I was still nervous, but I played my hardest. After a few minutes, I got a steal then scored my first bucket. This is when I realized I was able to play at this level. This dog fight ended up going into overtime. This was the first time I was introduced to this concept "Sudden Death" over time. Before we tipped off the officials came over to us and explained: "The first team to take a lead of two points wins the game." We win tip and coach called a timeout and draws up a play for me to drive baseline and shoot a floater. The play went exactly as coach designed it. Everything went well except that the floater rimmed out. The opposing team got the rebound and advanced the ball to get a wide–open layup. We ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In this film gender is put across by using sex and religion, but it is much more complex than that. Race, sex, religion and beliefs should not stop you getting a job; or achieving what you want in life. In 'Bend it like Beckham' all Jess wants to play football, however because of her religious and cultural beliefs her mom says this is not possible. In this essay I will be discussing the different cultures and genders issues in 'Bend it like Beckham'. The first time Jules's mother meets Jess she is surprised that she plays football with her religion. Plus she is surprised that her name is Jess in till she finds out her real name is Jesminder. Gender is an issue in 'Bend it like Beckham' it is shown in mainly ways. Firstly when Jess is playing football in the park and Jules says she is good and she should play for her football team. After this the boys she was playing football with say to Jess and Jules will you take your shirts off at the end of the game. Another gender issue is when her mom finds out jess has been playing football behind her back. Then her mother says an Indian girl should not be playing football, they should be cooking. Finally her dad does not want her play not just because of her religion. He does not want her play because when he first moved from India to England he was the best at a sport, but because of he was Indian he was not allowed to play and he doesn't want her to get caught. In one part of the play Jess gets red carded for fighting on the pitch. She did this because another girl made her a racist remark at Jess and called her a 'paki'. She said to Jules this really hurt her. This shows gender and cultures issues because she is being abused about her Asian backgrounds, which she wants to defend. The ... • 25. Two Things That Play An Important Role In Jane's Life Reactions: Throughout this episode I felt stressed for Jane. Choosing between two things that play an important role in the life of someone is extremely hard to do. She is faced with the overwhelming pressures of impressing her father or pursuing what will help her get by in life. She is constantly pressured by Rogelio more than anyone, considering he wants her to be apart of his life on television. While this is happening, Michael (Jane's ex–fiance), is working with his partner to crack down on their "Sin Rostro" (big–time drug dealer who has not been identified) case. Michael is stuck on the notion that Rafael is Sin Rostro, but it is partly due to Michael's hatred towards Rafael. Meanwhile, Rafael is trying his best to impress Xiomara in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I am constantly faced with the decision of choosing between my friends, working, and the sport I play, but it always works out in the end. I am glad that I do not have to make such a life–altering decision yet. Beautiful writing: "But Jane, this is a tough business. You can't look to others to validate you. If you choose to make a living in the financial arts, you must believe in yourself." Rogelio speaking with Jane. I chose this quote because Rogelio does a good job of putting emphasis in what will really play a role in how her life will be with the career she is choosing. What he says is true; no one but yourself is able to motivate you and make you successful. Having belief in yourself is more important than anything else when it comes to success. Main argument: The main argument of this episode is that no matter what kind of pressures someone might be facing, it is important that he or she chooses what feels right to them. One character: This episode definitely shows a lot of character change in Rafael; it is shown that he is concerned with impressing/winning over Xiomara. It shows how much his character has changed with Jane. Before Jane, he would not even have considered to be concerned with the mother's approval of the girl he is trying to ... • 33. The Children's Hour by Lilly Hellman Lillian Florance "Lilly" Hellman is deemed as one of the first important American woman dramatists. She lived up to her last name by challenging the American public with unpopular beliefs of Communism as well as other non–traditional beliefs causing herself to be blacklisted by the House Committee on Un–American Activities. She was born in an affluent, Jewish family on June 20, 1905 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Her mother, Julia Newhouse, stemmed from a successful bankers and liquor dealers, while her father, Max Hellman, was a lucrative shoe salesman. She attended New York University for two years after graduating from high school then transferred to briefly attend Columbia University. In 1929, Hellman traveled Europe and settled in Bonn to continue with her education. At the same time, she became attracted to a Nazi student group which advocated for a form of socialism. However, Hellman immediately returned to the United States after being pressed about her Jewish heritage. She became a short–term member of the Communist Party from 1938 to 1940 in America. Belmont has shown a very high octane running offense at times this season, while the Bulldogs has been up and down not only only offense but defense as well. Things got start with a bang, when Dawson Martin took off for a sixteen–yard run, showing speed and nice field vision. Martin would close out the drive on a 2–yard run to make this a,6–0 game. A two point conversion run by,Elijah Malcolm made the score,8–0, with 9:05 left in the quarter. The Bison offense was back at it again with 6:46 left on the clock. Martin converted the conversion run to make this a,32–6 game. The other play on the drive came on a seventy–four–yard run by Dorrick Conner. In watching this much of the game the one question that popped in my head was,how did Liberty Union shut out this Belmont team/ I have seen Liberty Union earlier this season in their blowout win over the Tigers, from Columbus East. Woodward had to know this game was all but over at the 5:38 mark of the 2nd quarter, so they decided to go for it on fourth down, needing fourteen–yards for the first down, deep in their own territory. The decision went from bad to worse when Reliford was called for intentional grounding, giving the ball to Belmont at the Bulldogs nine–yard line. The Bison scored on their next play, when quarterback Justin Young ran in the end zone. Another two point conversion run was successful, this time by Malcom to make this a,40–6 game. Belmont's offense was back at work at the 3:37 mark of the quarter with Young running for eighteen–yards. Young would be sacked on the drive by #17(not on either roster I have)for a short loss at the 1:36 mark of the quarter. Themes Of The Play ' Two Trains Running ' "The themes of the play are Two Trains Running is a political play that makes extended reference to the black power movement and its impact on poor urban communities like the Hill District of Pittsburgh. The issue of continued white oppression of African Americans and the response of the black community during the 1960s is at the foreground of the characters ' experience. The community surrounding the restaurant is undergoing a major redevelopment, probably one which has been precipitated by the social initiatives that came in the wake of the civil rights movement. However, the legal rights and privileges that the African American community won during the 1950s and 1960s do not seem necessarily to extend to impoverished city–dwellers. An underlying sense of tragedy and hopelessness pervades even short–term victories such as the city awarding Memphis thirty–five thousand dollars, since Memphis remains estranged from his wife and has the foreboding.." "The Real Inspector Hound" is a play by Tom Stoppard whose plot follows two theater critics called BirdBoot and Moon as they attended a play in London. The play also traces the narrative arc of the two theater critics as well as the narrative arc of the murder mystery play that they are assigned to review. In the play, Tom Stoppard provides a story and a one–act parody play about the nature of role playing in a detective fiction. This paper explores the play–within–a–play as explored by Stoppard where by the end of the play, both the internal and external play becomes entangled and becomes almost impossible to separate. For example, they acquire a single identity in the play as their actual identities and another in the inner play as their fictive identities. The internal, which is the play–within–a–play and the external which is the Stoppard's play are intimately connected with the play only functioning when it includes the play–within–a– play and the play–within–a–play highly necessitates the external play's context. However, the distinction that exists between their identities between the plays is not that absolute. The line that separates the characters becomes weaker as they move across the boundary that separates the inner from the outer play. This is replicated in the line separating the reality of the world from the fiction of the Muldoon Manor's world. Stoppard was able to provide a suggestion of the nature of role playing as well as the power of illusion over reality through his creation of a rigid structural demarcation line after which he violates the line through the entrance into the play by his ... Going in, I assumed the production would cover some controversial topics, but I didn't understand just how serious it would be. The story line for this rendition of the production was very similar to the "standard" versions I had read about. Some of factors that contributed to the likeness of the rendition of this production were that it took place in a Florida high school, in the locker room of a girl's swim team. The play here at Ball State starred two young high schoolers which was a dead match for the standard production of Dry Land. Just like the production A Chorus Line, you felt for the characters and that connection you had with them only developed more and more throughout the production. One example of this would be how one of the main characters, "Amy" felt throughout the duration of the play. Amy felt that she was alone, and no one would be there for her while she was enduring something that no child should ever have to undergo by themselves. The second example would be "Ester" who was so willing to do anything Amy asked because she wanted friendship and acceptance so badly. The beginning of the play was filled with Ester constantly asking if she was punching her correctly or could do anything to help Amy. Two Teachers In Our Day Out By Willy Russell Our Day out 'Our Day Out' is a written play by Willy Russell that reflects on the life the lower class of England live, also addressing the 'progress class' children that aren't given any chances to develop themselves and get a real shot at life. One way I'm focusing on is, what are their responsibilities? The next thing that I'm focusing on is, do these two players work together? The last thing that I'm focusing on is how tall do you have to be for these two positions? Some people may think that point and shooting guards do the same thing. Most of the things they do are similar, but there are some differences. One similarity is that, they both have to control the ball while getting the players to understand the plays. When help is being needed they both have to make sure they're there because their teammates are going to pass it to one of them. It is exciting but it takes skill for these two positions. There are really tall people that play basketball, but that is not an requirement. You don't have to really have height to play these two positions. Play can be overlooked in the school setting by those who are unaware of the possibilities it can bring and how it can influence a child's development. I will discuss how play techniques can be used to help the child develop their social skills; what types of play can support development and what types of play and hinder a child's development. This essay seeks to show the importance of play in a learning setting and how it can help build relationships. (MacIntyre, 2011, p. 29) states that "The study of play and that of child development naturally complement each other". This supports the idea that children can develop socially through play. Social competence needs to be obtained to have a positive interaction with peers, to build relationships and to nurture friendships (Johnson et al., 1999). There are many different types of play that can impact of social development. "Mildred Parten differentiated the social development of children into three levels" (Xu, 2010, p. 490). Both of their works present a world which cannot be logically explained, where the scenery, the language and the actions of the characters are almost incomprehensible and do not comply with the previously accepted norms of theatre. J.L Styan writes about Pinter. "His audience is made to feel, through an exquisite friction of nightmare and normality, the earthly need for security" (The Dark Comedy) I think this quote applies to Beckett too, however. Both of the plays I will look at are very sinister, subversive plays, riddled with dark humour. What is important to remember is that the plays are not just absurd for the sake of being ... "Pinter refuses to provide rational explanations for his characters" (www.imagi–nation.com) It is this deliberate withholding of information that adds to the sense of mystery and absurdity, doom and uncertainty. This is how Pinter builds up the sense of tension because, often, the reader assumes something worse than what is the actual reality in the play. Sexual tension leads to a highly charged, dramatic demise for Blanche and Eddie The characters of Blanche and Eddie are closely linked by several factors, including the reasons behind their cantankerous endings in the plays "A Streetcar Named Desire" and "A View from the Bridge". Williams and Miller characterize Blanche and Eddie through their sexuality, which is a very important theme in both plays. Both characters show traces of mental instability; Blanche perhaps more–so than Eddie, as throughout the play there are constant reminders to the audience that Blanche's already feeble mental state is deteriorating. Ultimately as they are both strong characters, one of the two has to come out a victor of their rivalry. Stanley is strong but Blanche successfully establishes a foothold in his house during the first third of the play and even shames him into acting somewhat 'sheepishly' by the end of scene one. However, Blanche's ascendancy does not last long and eventually we see Stanley regain his primitive masculine supremacy. This then progresses towards the end of the play, to complete lack of respect for Blanche herself, as in scene ten a drunk Stanley rapes her while her sister is in hospital; an unpleasant 'victory' over a weakened Blanche is the very peak of tension between the two. The main tension experienced in "A View from the Bridge" is due to the great contrast between how Eddie sees Catherine, and how she sees him. In Eddie's world, he imagines protecting Catherine from marriage or any male relationship and wants her for himself. While Eddie wavers and switches between communal and state laws and cultures to discriminate against Rodolpho, his motivations do not change, regardless of the fact it is often at the expense of others. Guinness brings clarity to what true Biblical calling is, and how it should affect our lives. Guinness present the skewed modern conception of calling, that is not at all biblical, and shatters its ideas. Throughout "The Call", Guinness explains how calling should transform our lives, and influence everything that we do. Guinness explains that there are two different types of calling that work together; primary and secondary. First, Guinness explains the concept of a primary calling that every Christian receives. This primary call declares that Christians are called "by Him, to Him and for Him." (Pg. 31) He then further explains that "we are called to Someone (God), not to something (such as motherhood, politics or teaching) or to somewhere (such as the inner city or Outer Mongolia)." (Pg. 31) Guinness presents his idea on primary calling as a calling directly to relationship with God that every believer receives before anything else. It would be foolish to think that one receives a "calling" to serve in a specific church as a pastor before they ever become a believer. Even further, Guinness argues that "Neither work, nor career can be fully satisfying without a deeper sense of calling–but "calling" itself is empty and indistinguishable from work unless there is Someone who calls." I outlined the basic concepts in Chapter 11 but felt coaches of older teams or teams with more advanced personnel would require a more in depth discussion. In particular, if you wish to use all the skaters on a team with three forward lines and six defensemen – the roster regularly seen in minor hockey – you will use combinations entirely different from a team with four forward lines. Racism In The Play 'Two Towns Of Jasper' By Moises Kaufman Racism is a global problem where societies subject individuals with certain attributes that are judged as inferior or superior to special treatment [3]. Although its prevalence is waning off, this problem is very old. It would also be quite difficult to eradicate racism from our societies completely. This is due to the obvious variations in people's religion, color, geographic location, culture and economic factors such as social class [3]. Whereas eradication of racism might sound impossible, the society can make enormous achievement in curbing its influence on most of the world's communities. Moises Kaufman along with the Tectonic Theatre Project produced a play "The Laramie Project" between the years 2000 and 2002 [2]. Based on the murder of a student in Laramie city, the play ... Citizens of American, irrespective of their color have a right to live anywhere in the country and to exercise their liberty of interaction [1]. Differences in cultural values, perceptions and life priorities make it difficult for many communities to fight hatred and violence between their people. The media's participation raised awareness on how people from the two groups perceive each other but increased tension between them. The titles of the two help set up the point of view that particular story is going to be told in. The story named "A Jury of Her Peers" was named that because Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters, her peers, basically decided the fate of Minnie. They both decided not to turn in the evidence and, in doing so, more than likely kept her out of prison. The term "jury" used in the title is appropriate because the whole story is depicting a group of townspeople who are investigating the murder scene to decide her fate. Typically, a group of people deciding someone's fate is called a jury. In the play, "Trifles," Mr. Hale states that women are constantly "worrying over trifles" (Glaspell 561). Yet, these are the same trifles that if the men paid attention to they would be able to get plenty of evidence against Minnie. The introductions to the stories are also very different, in the story it starts way before they get to Mrs. Wrights house. It actually starts at Mr. and Mrs. Hales house as the sheriff's buggy stops to pick them up. This allows us to get a feel for the relationships between each of the characters. It also allows us to understand why the women are there in the first place, the sheriffs wife, Mrs. Peters, is there to get some of Mrs. Wrights things for her, and Mrs. Hale is there simply to keep Mrs. Peters company. It states, "and then the sheriff came running in to say his wife wished Mrs. Hale would come too––– adding, with a grin, that he guessed she was getting scarey and wanted another woman along"(Glaspell 568). The story also gives a very descriptive view of the Mrs. Wrights home, and namely her kitchen. Stanley and the boys are given strong primary colours, shown by what they wear and the description of the room often red and blue. Another benefit of having a two– handed play is, as an audience we can concentrate particularly on just the two main characters, even though we are told of others. As a result, we aren't distracted by insignificant characters or minor concerns, this would only confuse the audience about what is going on in the play. There are many characters that are mentioned in the play by Frank and Rita that we don't hear any dialogue from. For example, we hear about Denny, Rita's husband, about Julia, Frank's partner, and about Trish, Rita's flatmate, who attempts to kill herself. The financial and logistical implications are also a benefit for "Educating Rita" being a two–handed play because, as there is only one set used in the whole play, therefore, the play is cheaper to stage as they don't have to pay for another set to be built or rented. When this question is asked, a few clearer topics must be addressed, such as what circumstances they were under, the time of day the plays were performed, the settings of the plays, the span of the plays, and how long it took to write the plays. The circumstances of the plays varied from play to play. Julius Caesar, for example, was performed shortly after the Gunpowder Plot, and due to those circumstances, it may have been seen by the audience as a warning against assassinating kings, yet "during the Palatinate crisis of 1619– 1620, when public opinion became polarized, and when the king's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Aside from religious and political circumstances, personal events also affected the writing of the plays–– Hamlet, for example, is directly related to both the death of Shakespeare's son Hamnet and the drowning of Katherine Hamlett in the River Avon near Stratford in 1579 (MacInnes 213). The sudden death of Hamnet relates to the murder of old Hamlet by his brother, Claudius, and the drowning of Katherine Hamlett is most likely the inspiration of Ophelia's drowning. Circumstances greatly affect how the plays are both written as well as interpreted. Another aspect of the question of when the plays were done involves the time of day that the plays were performed. It is highly likely that there were performances at any time of day, most commonly in the afternoon and evening, although lighting may have proven to be an issue regarding some of the scenes depending on the time of day (Robbins 68). As for the question of the setting, it depends on the play–– Julius Caesar, for example, is set in Rome and is thus set much earlier than the medieval setting of Hamlet. Observational Taxonomy for Children Observational taxonomy as it relates to the nature of early social interaction, is a classification system that uses a code of different behaviors that are seen when observing children during play and non–play and is further divided into cognitive and social categories. Amongst the many theorists, Mildred Parten and Jean Piaget are significant to the field of early observational studies comprising of children in the free play atmosphere. Parten asserted that social participation amongst preschool aged children amplified as the child's age increased (Parten 1932). Child's Play: The First Two Years of Life In the first two years of life play is both a reflection of and an influence on all areas of infant development: intellectual, social, emotional and physical. Play is a central, all–encompassing characteristic of infant development, allowing children to learn about the world and themselves. Even during the first half–year of life infant's really do play, even though the interpretation of what is play and what is exploration must first be established. The focus of this paper is to discuss three forms of play that occur during the first two years of life. The work of Jean Piaget and other psychologists in supporting and developing these ideas is critical. The first of these is sensorimotor play ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first of these stages is primary circular reaction: When a baby accidentally discovers an interesting sensory or motor experience related to its own body, and then continues to repeat it. This type of behavior is typically seen between one to four months. This is evident through a description of Piaget's own eight week old son Laurent "scratches and tries to grasp, lets go, scratches and grasps again, etc... Laurent scratches the sheet which is folded over the blankets, then grasps and holds it for a moment, then lets it go, scratches it again, and recommences without interruption" (Piaget, 1963, p.191). Laurent seems to be fascinated by the actions of grasping, scratching and letting go of the object and shows little attention for the actual object he does it to. There is no actual attraction to the object since Laurent would likely react to any object in a similar fashion as long as it was put directly in front of him. Put a rattle in front of a three–month–old baby and the child will play with it by shaking, chewing, or looking at it (Hughes, 1991). The second stage is secondary circular reaction, and it appears at about four months. This stage is similar to the first, except now the child enjoys the pleasing effects that their actions make in the external world, and continue to repeat it. At their nature–based preschool, not only do they play inside with the typical toys for the little tikes, they use the outdoors to entertain their students for hours. Usually, when someone thinks of children's toys, legos, barbies, and toy race cars come to mind. But at Camp Ketcha, the children typically are more entertained by horses, gourds, and apple trees. Throughout the course of the day, the kids were either playing one on one with each other, playing in a group, or playing with a staff member; very rarely did they play by themselves. The dynamic with which they played, however, changed throughout the day, depending on the activity. I will speak a little about his identity at the beginning of the comedy, then who he is compared to metaphorically, and finally about the development of his character throughout the play. Initially, Benedick appears as a character meant entirely for comic relief, acting as if the most crucial part of his personality is his wit and humor. However, by the end of the play he is noticed as someone who can think clearly and make important decisions. The biggest change in Benedick's character is risen from his relationship with Beatrice. • 141. The Call, Os Guinness In his book, "The Call" Os Guinness presents the biblical definition of calling for the Christian. Guinness brings clarity to what true Biblical calling is, and how it should affect our lives. Guinness presents the skewed modern conception of calling, that is not at all biblical, and shatters its ideas. 31) Guinness presents his idea on the primary calling as a calling directly into relationship with God that every believer receives before anything else. It would be foolish to think that one receives a "calling" to serve in a specific church as a pastor before they ever become a believer. Even further, Guinness argues that "Neither work, nor career can be fully satisfying without a deeper sense of calling–but "calling" itself is empty and indistinguishable from work unless there is Someone who calls." The Woman Of Black By Susan Hill On the twenty–sixth of February 2014 our drama class travelled to The Fortune Theatre situated in London to see the exhilarating adaptation of the thriller fiction novel The Woman In Black written by Susan Hill that was adapted into a stage play by Stephen Mallatratt. The drama arose from many sources and routes – particularly the production that was involved. The Fortune Theatre is a very intimate auditorium, assembling the play to become have a more excavating effect, and the audience to become more involved with the performance. Interestingly, The Women In Black is now the second longest running play in the West End. It has been running at The Fortune Theatre since February 1989 – one can effortlessly notify that the production is exceedingly popular and innovative due to these given statuses. It is indisputably one of the most bloodcurdling ghost stories relentlessly told on stage. The Woman In Black was played by an uncredited actress, thus instigating that the play is performed by only two actors: Arthur Kipps and The Actor who retells Kipps' story. Furthermore, The Woman may have not been listed in the programme because of the extra effect that she will enhance when she appears on the stage to frighten the audience. Plagued with themes of supremacy and control, Robert Bolt's A Man for All Seasons features the protagonist Thomas More who is fiercely truthful and honest. Thomas More is foregrounded within the play to highlight the themes of power, control and ultimately corruption amongst the monarchy. The play, A Man for all Seasons, provides the audience with a deeper and more accurate portray of Sir Thomas More in comparison to the film, giving the audience a more enriched story of the overarching theme. Once again, the play represents this well, using the Gilded Cup to clearly symbolize the corruption in the monarchy which then started the catalyst of the play. In contrast to the play, the film marginalizes this important scene, limiting the audience's opportunity to delve deeply into the meaning of the Gilded Cup. In addition to this, A Man For All Seasons focuses on the rise of Richard Rich and the fall of Sir Thomas More. More stays strong to his morals, resisting pressure of the monarchy.
