Lord Of The Flies Leadership Essay
Crafting an essay on the subject of leadership in "Lord of the Flies" poses a formidable challenge
due to the complexity of the novel itself. William Golding's narrative delves into the intricate
dynamics of human behavior and power, making it a rich but intricate tapestry to unravel. The
multifaceted characters, symbolic elements, and evolving plotlines demand a profound
understanding to dissect the nuances of leadership presented in the story.
The task involves not only analyzing the characters' leadership styles but also unraveling the
underlying themes and symbolism inherent in their actions. Extracting meaningful insights from
the novel requires a keen eye for literary devices and an ability to connect them to the broader
theme of leadership. Moreover, the essay must navigate through the morally ambiguous terrain
explored by Golding, addressing the dark aspects of human nature and their implications for
leadership.
One must also grapple with the challenge of drawing parallels between the events in the novel
and real-world examples of leadership, drawing insightful comparisons that enrich the analysis.
This requires a deep exploration of psychological and sociological theories related to leadership,
adding an additional layer of complexity to the essay.
Conveying these intricate ideas in a coherent and organized manner poses yet another hurdle.
The essay must strike a balance between in-depth analysis and clarity, ensuring that the reader
can follow the intricate arguments without losing sight of the overarching theme. Crafting a
compelling thesis statement that encapsulates the essence of the essay adds to the difficulty,
demanding a nuanced understanding of the subject matter.
In conclusion, tackling an essay on leadership in "Lord of the Flies" requires not only a
comprehensive understanding of the novel but also the ability to navigate the complex web of
ideas presented by Golding. It demands analytical prowess, a keen eye for detail, and an
aptitude for connecting literary elements to broader concepts. Navigating this intricate terrain
necessitates patience, diligence, and a commitment to unraveling the layers of meaning
embedded in the narrative.
For those seeking assistance with such challenging essays, various resources are available. Similar

How Does Mary Anne Change In The Sweetheart Of Song
Tra Bong
War never changes, but people do. In Sweetheart of Song Tra Bong a young medic
decides to fly his high school sweetheart, Mary Anne, to Vietnam so they can spend
time together after he discovers the lack of discipline in camp. When Mary Anne
arrives she is innocent, bubbly, flirtatious, and curious with blonde hair, long legs,
and blue eyes. Her curiosity gets her involved in some of the medical activities in
camp, then she starts assembling guns and visiting local towns. Mary Anne gets
hooked. She cuts her hair, stops wearing makeup and jewelry, and no longer wants to
get married and settle down with Mark. In Sweetheart of Song Tra Bong Tim O Brien
communicates the power that Vietnam and the warhad in absorbing and contorting
people.

First, she cuts her hair short and puts in a bandana, stops wearing makeup and
jewelry, and ceases to worry about personal hygiene. Then, Mark catches her on an
ambush with a team of Green Berets and yells at her. He no longer recognizes her
in her bush hat and filthy green fatigues; she carried the standard M 16 automatic
assault rifle; her face was black with charcoal (98). In two weeks she has gone
from someone with complexion as sweet as a strawberry and skin that was even
untouched by the sun to a soldier that lays in the dirt holding a weapon to end
someone s life, ignoring her innocence and covering it up with a black charcoal
alter ego. After he yells at her, she leaves with the Green Berets for three weeks
(94). This decision to leave is the final leap towards a new Mary Anne, as she has
now decided that fighting with the Green Berets is more important to her than
staying with the man she was engaged to marry. She returns once more, this time
with glowing jungle green eyes instead of blue, symbolizing her complete entrance
into war (101). She is now one with the green mountains of Vietnam. She has now
decided that the war is more important than getting married, starting a family, or even
going home. This decision was made time and time again by millions of young men
who had gone to Vietnam as a consequence of having their birth on the wrong day.
Only a few of these men exited Vietnam as the same person that
Greenhouse Gases Lab Report
Greenhouse Gases
The Earth absorbs solar energy and most of this energy is later released as heat, or IR
radiation.
Most of the gas molecules in the atmosphere are not able to absorb this energy and it
passes through and out into space.
Carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, chlorofluorocarbons, and certain other gases
absorb IR radiation from the Earth s surface and re emit it in all directions. These
gases act like the glass in a greenhouse to increase the temperature of the planet.
IR Absorption
The homonuclear diatomic molecules that make up the bulk of the atmosphere (N2
and O2) do not absorb IR radiation because they have no IR active vibrations. What
makes a vibrational mode IR active?
An electromagnetic field interacts with a molecular bond by affecting the dipole

This is the reciprocal of wavelength and is proportional to energy.
Examine the simplest situation. Infrared radiation is absorbed by the stretching
vibration of a simple diatomic molecule (CO, HCl, NO, for example). This stretch is
the only vibrational mode for a diatomic molecule.
Stretching Vibrations 1.There is movement along the bond axis.
2.Interatomic distances change.
3.There is NO change in the center of gravity.
Non linear molecules have more vibrational modes. Water has 3 of these.
Vibrational Modes 1.symmetric stretch
2.asymmetric stretch
3.scissoring bend
Carbon Dioxide
IR radiation excites some of the possible vibrational modes in carbon dioxide. The
vibrational absorption spectrum of CO2 is shown below.
Other Greenhouse Gases
Other gases can absorb even more solar energy than carbon dioxide. Early in the
history of our planet, the high methane concentration in the atmosphere kept the
Earth s surface warm and water in a liquid form.

Essay On How To Throw A Baseball Pitch
Many times, someone who plays baseball, or knows something about baseball, may
see someone simply throw a rock and think, Wow, they really could have a future
with the arm they have. You may not be interested in baseball, but you can be
enlightened with something from people who are very good at what they do. Maybe,
some of you could take some things, and apply them, and you will find a hidden
talent. The topic of enlightenment is how to throw different baseballpitches.
First off, the supplies that are needed are, but certainly are not limited to: a baseball,
a baseball glove, another person with a baseball glove, and an open area. A pitching
mound can be used to gain the full potential of the pitches you will learn to throw.
Also, catchers equipment and a catcher would benefit you to ... Show more content on

To reach this potential, you can take lessons from someone who has perfected the
craft of pitching. With all of these things, you must now learn to throw the pitches.
After having gained all the materials needed and having the proper instruction, you
can now begin learning to throw different pitches. However, you must first know
what each pitch does, what the pitch is used to do, and how the pitch is most
effective for you. The three main pitches are the fastball, change up, and curveball.
To start, the fastball is a pitch that has the most speed out of any other pitch. While
the pitch is called a fastball, there are two different types of fastballs: the two seam
and the four seam. The two seam fastball is relatively similar to the four seam,
however the two seam will move into a right handed batter and away from a left
handed batter. The fastball is used to get a strike on the batter, set the batter nup for
an offspeed pitch, and often, it is used after an offspeed pitch to disrupt the hitter s
timing. Now, the curveball is often the pitch with the lowest velocity. A curveball also
has the most movement among all pitches.
The Impact Of Organizational Justice On Turnover...
The Impact of Organizational Justice on Turnover Intentions, Job Satisfaction, and
Organizational Citizenship Behavior among Laboratory Technologists Technicians in
Jeddah Introduction Wit h the recent increase in globalization and international
competition, the importance of managing resources that can improve competitiveness
of organizations has become a crucial element in the success of healthcare system.
Among these resources, human resources require a special attention in today s
organizations. Human resources play an important role in the healthcare services.
Increasing organizational justice contributes to the increased competitiveness of
healthcare service organizations and lead to better future performance. Organizational
justice describes the individuals (or groups ) perception of the fairness of treatment
received from an organization and their behavioral reaction to such perceptions (1). It
is essential for understanding organizational behavior (2). During the past decades,
the study of justice has received major research attention from a variety of disciplines,
including economics, psychology, law, and organizational science (3). For
employees, perceptions of justice in the organization are important determinants of
their judgments about the organization s environment. Many studies on
organizational justice provide evidence for the value of justice perceptions in shaping
an employee s work experience including expressions of job satisfaction, turnover
Social Classes
Education within social classes have grown exponentially apart over the last couple
decades because many different factors have been presented in today s society.
Education plays an important role in today s classification of social classes, but first
we need to understand the different levels of social classes. Social classesare often
determined by education, occupation, wealth, and your social network. These social
classes are the upper class; top 3% and the wealthiest, the middle class; 50% of the
United States, and the lower/working class; typically people of poverty,
unemployment, and homelessness. Each level of class has different guidelines
/standards when it comes to education, the upper class has the highest level of
education, of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These people are least educated and tend to live paycheck to paycheck. It is this class
that you will find people collecting welfare and living in government housing.
Homelessness and unemployment run high in this class. Anyone in this class lacks
proper medical care, adequate housing, clothing and food. Rarely will you find
someone in this class that holds an advanced academic degree, graduated high school,
and are thinking about furthering their schooling into secondary schools past the
mandatory minimum education requirements. The lower class students are usually
labelled in school, as the ones who are uneducated, unmotivated, and predictable
when the schooling gets harder. This leads to the lower class students often feeling
demoralized and uninspired to become better, so they give up without even trying to
succeed. With little to none support from their family, most of these students start
school unable to read, they test poorly, and are often absent a lot more than usual.
Education usually becomes of not of importance within this social group. By the
time, these students are actually eligible for special programs, grants, or loans they
are often unmotivated or disadvantaged and unwilling to accept help from others,
which leads to the decline of education in the lower class, further separating the
educational levels between
Taylor faces a predicament regarding her lumberyard...
Taylor faces a predicament regarding her lumberyard business and employees due
to competitive pressures. She may have to make a choice to save her business,
which would be at the cost of her employee s welfare. Therefore, in this paper we
will explore through the various ethical theories and help Taylor adopt an ethical
decision that will save the future of her business and employees. The main ethical
dilemma is that Taylor likes to pay her employees a higher wage so they are able to
live a comfortable lifestyle. However, if she continues to employ her employees at a
higher wage in comparison to her competitors then she may run out of business soon.
This is because her competitors are keeping their lumber prices low... Show more

The employees will receive satisfaction momentarily and will eventually face
unemployment in the future, due to the shutting down of the business. This
approach could be criticized for being ethical and helpful for only a short period of
time. Deontology, however, focuses on the study of the fundamental duties in life. It
suggests dealing with moral dilemmas ideally by obeying preset rules. If Taylor
chooses to seek the best solution among the alternatives in accordance with the
theory of Deontology, then she may choose to lower the wages of her employees in
order to keep the business running or let go off a few workers and employ the rest at
the current wage. This may be considered ethical keeping in mind the rules of
business that prevents a business owner from jeopardizing his/her own business. At
the same time it can be argued that by following the rules of business, one may
contradict the basic duties of life towards other beings, which has been emphasized
by many deontologists. Consequentialism on the other hand, accounts for the
consequences of actions. In fact consequentialists don t take in to consideration the
intention behind actions and are driven towards the end results. One of the highlighted
Ethical Issues In Correctional Facilities
Another ethical problem is that in correctional facilities it is not spoken openly
about transgender rights and what can be done to ensure safety for all no matter
their gender identity. In an article written by Asmar detailing the experience of
Hill, a transgender who identifies herself as a woman in a male prison, was raped
by her cellmate. Whenever she asked for help or reported what happened to her,
the staff did not believe her. For instance, when she was violently raped by her
cellmate she wrote a letter to a nurse who was handing out medications. The nurse s
response to her note was unethical and unprofessional as she asked her if it was real
and that ...it better be real (Asmar, 2015). There are many concerns with the nurse s
response.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Training classes will help nurses to understand the definitions and terms, being
empathic to transgender individuals in prison, and provide gender affirming
healthcare services (Wahowiak, 2016). It is also important to note what led them
to become incarcerated so that as a nurse you can help prevent them from being
incarcerated again. Treating transgender individuals with fairness, dignity, and
respect is extremely important because that is how you develop a nurse patient
relationship (NCCHC, 2015). Patient safety will also have an impact on the
profession of nursing as our mission is to protect, heal, and advocate for our
patients regardless of their gender identity. Transgender inmates are at risk for
violence and sexual assault or harassment. As nurses, it is our duty to ensure that
while they are incarcerated they are being treated equally, receiving the same
healthcare treatment as others and that we report any incidents. Housing should also
be addressed so that they can be housed based on their gender identity instead of
their genitalia. Previously mentioned, transgender individuals are denied their
medication because the healthcare system is indifferent to their needs and views it
as unimportant compared to the rest. In spite of this, what they fail to see is that if
they keep denying them their medications and sex reassignment surgery, they
become more liable because it will lead to self castration or mutilation. As a result,
they become responsible for what happens in prison and if they become ill from
catching an infection due to self castration the health professionals become
questionable. Questionable in the sense of, if it could have been prevented and

Industry Overview The confectionery industry while having some difficulty with
consumer demands concerning health seems to be a quite lucrative industry. The
food and beverage industry as a whole sustained sales and profitable growth due to
improved efficiencies and new and innovative product lines. The major problem in
the food and beverage industry continues to be the rising costs of raw materials and
the uncertainty of being able to increase the price of their products
(MergentOnline.com). The Hershey Company and other chocolate confectioners are
worried with civil unrest in the world s largest cocoa producing country, The Ivory
Coast, where prices have remained volatile. During 2006, cocoa prices traded
between .67 and .75 per pound, based on the New York Board of Trade futures
contract (The Hershey Company Annual Report). As mentioned earlier, health
conscience consumers also play a huge part in the success or failure of this industry.
Although the majority of consumers are still purchasing junk food and the like, there
are a growing number of consumers that demand a healthier option. Several
companies including The Hershey Company, M M Mars, and Nestle have begun to
provide a spectrum of healthier products. According to The Washington Times,

Band Session At The Baked Potato
This concert report will go into great detail regarding the performance that I
witnessed, as well as the genre of Jazz that was played, the artist, and the techniques
that were used. I will start with my personal experience of the concert that I
attended. This will focus on the details of the performance, as well as my mindset
before and after the show. Next, this paper will research the origins of the genre of
Jazzthat was played, which is Funk and has been supported by several scholarly
sources. Then I will look at the origin of the Jam Session. Finally I will then end with
information regarding the performers themselves as well as the history of the venue.
For my concert report I went with the members of my group presentation to the
weekly jam session at The Baked Potato, located in studio city. We just got done
with a long night of studying, it was late, a Monday, and I was tired. This was the
first Jazz show that I have ever been to and I didn t know what to expect. I had zero
expectations going into this and in the end I m glad I didn t. When we arrived I
was immediately surprised at how small the venue was. There was maybe a little
more than thirty people in totally and it was a packed house. We took our seats right
next to the stage, sitting directly in front of the bassist and lead guitar player. As we
ordered our two drink minimum and a couple of baked potatoes to share, I watched
as the rest of the band started to step on stage. Some seemed to know each other

The Great Artists Of The Conceptual Art Movement
When one thinks of Art the most popular image is of great works, famous for their
visually pleasing and intellectually rousing qualities. These works, aside from being
visually and intellectually stimulating, have been used to challenge and encourage an
audience to think about what it s representing in flexible and open minded ways, this
is usually done by shocking the audience out of their complacency when viewing
artworks. The great artists of the Conceptual Artmovement especially emphasised this
by focusing more on the concept behind a piece than the art itself. Three particular
artists that are famous for challenging audiences with their work include Marcel
Duchamp(1887 1968), Jenny Holzer (1950 present) and Ai WeiWei (1957 present).
Even though these three artists are part of different times, countries, political and
cultural movements, they all use their works to confront and challenge every part of
their audience including critics, the media and the general public.
Marcel Duchamp is widely considered as one of the most influential artists of the
20th century, his early works saw him in the Post Impressionist movement however
his want for art to be in the service of the mind saw his move away from that style
of art. He was a French, sculptor, painter and writer whose work is associated Dada
and with being the precursor to conceptual art. Duchamp spent nearly his whole art
career challenging his audiences to think about what art really is. His critical

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Described as a Sticking
Plaster
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy has been described as a В‘sticking plaster for the
problems that people may bring to counselling (Observer, 19/02/06). With
reference to the literature, critically evaluate the arguments for and against this
view. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a combination of two kinds of
therapy; cognitive therapy and behavioural therapy (Bush, 2005). It has been
shown to have a positive impact on a wide range of mood and anxiety disorders,
such as depression, insomnia and panic attacks as well as more recently psychosis
(schizophrenia). However, whether or not CBT actually solves the issue at hand or
simply covers it up, as a sticking plaster (Martin Helmore, 2006) has recently been a
topic of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gloaguen (1998) used meta analysis to compare the use of CBT and behavioural
therapy in treating patients with depression. The study was controlled for using
waiting list and placebo controls. CBT was found to be superior when compared
to the controls, and also when compared to behavioural therapy, although most of
the behavioural therapy trials analysed were uncontrolled. This aside, when
compared to control groups CBT does have an advantage over no treatment, which
is evidence of the concept that it is better than nothing for individuals suffering
from depression as it can improve their quality of life. A recent trial (DeRubeis et
al., 2005) found antidepressants (serotonin reuptake inhibitors) to be equally as
effective in the treatment of individuals with moderate to severe as CBT. Although
both treatments can be seen as equally effective, the use of CBT does not require
people to ingest drugs, so if both are equally as effective the CBT would be the
clear choice for individuals with depression. The evidence for the area of
depression and the usefulness of CBT is mixed, in spite of this, it s merits are
clearly obvious. Another area where CBT is used is in the treatment of individuals
with obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). The use of CBT in this are has been
more successful with not only alleviating the symptoms of

Could it be that students fail to attend these meetings due to the overwhelming

Gender And Sexual Identity In Shakespeare s Novel,...
Over the course of the summer I read Jeffrey Eugenides novel, Middlesex. The novel
depicted the journey of Cal, the narrator, as he struggled with his gender and sexual
identity. I found Eugenides use of first person narration compelling because it
allowed me to feel a greater connection to Cal, the narrator. Throughout the novelhe
provided insight on his experiences, while also telling the tale of his familys
immigration to Detroit, Michigan. By relaying stories of Desdemona and Lefty s
early experiences in Smyrna and America I felt as though I gained a deeper
understanding of Cal and his family. However, because he was not present during
these events, I felt conflicted over whether or not he was a trustworthy, authoritative
narrator. He simply retold what information he had been fed, thus I felt he lacked
ethos and credibility. Additionally, I was intrigued by the various settings
throughout the novel and felt they added to the overall appeal and intrigue of the
plot. In the novel Cal described the polarization and hatred of two opposing social
groups in both Smyrna and Detroit: in Smyrna the Greeks versus the Turks and in
Detroit the blacks versus the whites. This subtle juxtaposition was alluring and
allowed for Eugenides to develop underlying conflicts different than the conflicts that
Cal and his family struggled with. I interpreted this foil as a means by which
Eugenides added his own social commentary to the novel, as he illustrated that

Abstract
This paper will aim to define narcissistic personality disorder as a whole. The
document will cover the topics of symptoms, prevalence, and contributing factor. In
addition to covering the general description of the disorder the paper will present a

Myth Of Low Self-Esteem Case Study

Myth: Relationship are more likely to break up if a partner has low self esteem

problems in relationships, so esteem has little to do with who stays together or
who breaks up. However, low self esteem does cause some problems in
relationships, such as often distrusting a partner s expressions of love and support.
My two cents: As someone who has been on both ends on this I would disagree.
Dating someone who had extreme self esteem problems had to be the worst thing I

The Significance of Xenia in Homer’s The Odyssey

The Significance of Xenia in Homer s Odyssey The society of Ancient Greece was
very much centered around the gods, and a healthy fear of the consequences of not
obeying their laws. The next most important staples of the society were the concepts
of braver, pride, and hospitality, or Xenia. The significance of these values is shown
quite clearly in The Odyssey of Homer.
In the first five books of the epic, Telemachos is shown great hospitality by the kings,
Nestor, and Menelaos. As Homer writes in description of Nestor s reception of
Telemachos and Athena, These men, when they sighted the strangers, all came down
together and gave them greeting with their hands and offered ... Show more content

(Homer.9.289 2910 This is one example of the brutality that Odysseus and his crew
were also shown, rather than hospitality. The range of degrees of hospitality shown
to the travelers is a testament to the number of people who ignored the law of Xenia.
The hospitality that Telemachos and Penelope show Odysseus when he returns
home, even though they do not know who he really is yet another example of
xenia. This hospitality helps in his winning his home back from the suitors.
Telemachos welcomes Odysseus into the house, and gives him permission to beg
the suitors of money. Despite knowing this, said suitors harass him when he asks
for coins. In response to this, Telemachos says , There will be no pleasure in this
feast, at all since vile things will be uppermost. Now the hallowed prince
Telemachos spoken [...] I drive away no man. Telemachos s defense of Odysseus,
even in guise of a vagabond, shows great grace on his part, and show great
hospitality, on top of undermining the suitors, thus giving them less power. After the
suitors have gone home, Penelope summons her maidservant, saying , Eurynome,
bring up a chair, and put a fleece on it, so that the stranger can be seated, and tell
me his story, and listen to what I have to say. (Homer.18.97 99) This statement
shows that Penelope is intending t make a beggar as comfortable as she, and set

communication is understanding the effective way in communicating between
people with different cultural background. Factors such as business etiquettes and
cultural differences are critical to be able to achieve a positive outcome in a
negotiation. Knowing how to negotiate with the Japanese is essential especially
when the person comes from a different background. In this essay, Emily, an
australian entrepreneur who wish to expand her business venture in Japan will be
advised on gaining a good impression with meeting Mr. Hamasaki, a manager of a
popular store. BODY MAKING A GOOD IMPRESSION Japanese are known to
be perfectionists, they strive to be at their best especially in business matters.
Coming from an Australian culture, Emily needs to be aware that Japanese are
unreadable, they tend to make you think what they are thinking. Unlike other
culture like australians, they are direct to the point. Punctuality. As mentioned
above, Japanese are perfectionists, and being perfect on time is one they re
excellent at. So, Emily was advised that it s better for her to arrive on their meeting
at least 5 minutes before. Because it is 101% sure that Mr. Hamasaki will arrive on
the dot. The point is, she needs to be there first before Mr. Hamasaki. Attire. When
Emily goes to Japan, she will notice that most of the people

How Did The Russian Marxism Movement Evolve In The

How did the Russian Marxism movement evolve in the period 1880 1905?

Marxism was a social movement that aimed to overcome all forms of domination and
exploitation. Roots of Marxism were drawn from the three main sources: German
idealist philosophy, British political economy, and French socialism. Adopting ideas
of German philosophers such as Kant and Hegel, Marx took a deeper look into the
nature of social reality. He researched how social interest, which was expressed in
mode of thinking and following actions, connected to real day to day life of people.
According to Marx, human history was defined by class struggle which was caused

Although the revolt was crashed by Nicholas I, and police control became even
tougher, spreading progressive ideas among educated intellectually advances people
of the time was the main consequence of Decembrist uprising. Post selfdom period
featured the emergence of critical minded and enlightened young intellectuals, and
who were willing to devote their lives to the transformation of the society. Learning
from Decembrists failure, they considered the necessity of cooperation with the
peasantry. However, the idea of creating the system of village communal land
ownership was meaningless for the peasants, who were still loyal to the Tsar and saw
him as father of people. The attempt to initiate a peasant self awakening by going to
people ended in bitter disappointment. Peasant conservatism and government
prosecution drove the Narodniki to underground activity. With industrial development
and emergence of urban proletariat in the 1880s, the populists attention shifted to
workers. Among those who supported a socialist propaganda was Georgi Plekhanov
who is considered a father of Russian Marxism.
The foundation of Group for the Liberty of Labour in Geneva (1883) manifested the

Many people believe that the worst part of remembrance is all the pain that comes
with it. But what actually causes all the suffering is loneliness. Memories,
thoughts and ideas all have to be shared in order to understand them better, or to let
go of them. In this essay I will be looking at 6 poems: Piano by D.H. Lawrence,
Poem at 39 by Alice Walker, Stop All The Clocks by Auden, War Photographer by
Carol Ann Duffy, Praise Song by Grace Nichols and finally Digging by Seamus

In Poem at 39 Alice Walker mainly talks about memories she had with her father and

Auden wants to remember him; he is asking for complete silence by saying, stop all
the clocks, cut off the telephone, prevent the dog from barking . Furthermore, does
the author want to stop the time, it could have been that he doesn t want to hear
anything about his friend s death or he doesn t want to accept that he is gone. In the
second stanza Auden talks about the importance of his loss and wants the entire
world to know about it, let the aeroplanes circle moaning overhead, scribbling on
the sky the message He Is Dead . Auden develops on the significance of his friend
in the last two stanzas by calling him his working week and Sunday rest, noon,
midnight, talk and song . This shows that he was as meaningful as Auden s daily
job and as relaxing as his day off, he was there at any time, day or night, he was part
of Auden s life and without him, life would be impossible.
Seamus Heaney s Digging explains the actions of his father and the effects of it on
him, similarly to what Walker has done. Both authors were raised on their parents
farm and therefore write about very similar concepts and in related styles. Heaney
watches his father, digging as he looks down his window . He can see all the
hardship and discomfort he is going through as he bends low, comes up twenty years

CGI In The Jurassic World
A dinosaur, thrashing through the woods. A terrorizing cyborg, attempting to seal
humanity s fate. A friendly toy cowboy, coming to life. These are some of the
unimaginable things that computer generated imagery (CGI) has brought to life
in film. CGI is constructing still or animated visual content with picturing software
(Rouse). It has many uses as well, and is a helpful tool in many fields. CGI is used
for visuals, advertising, anatomical modeling, architecture, special effects in
cinema, and video games (Rouse). CGI has played a significant role in film over the
years. Before CGI, special effects in cinema were simple. In Pre War Hollywood or
before World War II, special effects included adding clouds to the sky, and ceilings
to sets (Keil and Whissel 91). Many different methods were also used to make the
figures appear like they were moving, which CGI replaced. A praxinoscope was one...

One large difference in Jurassic World is that the dinosaurs are mostly CGI, with
barely any use of animatronics (Giardina). The difference can be seen by viewers,
as the dinosaurs in Jurassic World move very realistically. The structure of the
dinosaurs in Jurassic World are also incredibly realistic. The skin and muscles of
the dinosaurs in Jurassic World are far more complex and technological than in
Jurassic World (Giardina). The Jurassic World special effects team made the
dinosaurs muscles fire and squeeze like a real life animal would (Giardina). These
simple looking yet effective improvements made in Jurassic World are perfect
examples on how CGI has improved over the years. The dinosaurs in Jurassic Park
were the most unbelievable and realistic creations in film history, and the 1990 s
film was way before its time. But after many years pass, Jurassic World was able to
improve the effects greatly through realistic movements and
Cappuccino In San Francisco
To determine just how expensive a cappuccino was in San Francisco, I sampled
cappuccino prices at 36 coffee shops scattered across San Francisco. The sample
mean price of a cappuccino is $3.54 (xМ…) with a sample standard deviation, or a
standard error, of $0.55 (s). The prices ranged from $2.50 to $4.40. To construct a
99% confidence interval for this sample, I multiplied the standard error by the z
statistic corresponding with 99%, 2.576, and added/subtracted that value from the
point estimate, $3.54. The resultant confidence interval was [$2.13, $4.96]. In other
words, if I continued sampling cappuccino coffee prices and creating unique samples
of sufficient size, both including and not including the coffee shops already sampled,

It is possible, albeit unlikely, that the prices shown on these cafe s websites is
different from the prices they actually sell cappuccinos at. I also failed to correct
for inconsistencies in cappuccino prices. Cappuccino sizes are not standardized,
so I tried to pick the smallest size whenever possible, which varied from Small at
most cafes to Tall at Starbucks to 12 oz at other institutions. In order to provide a
basis for equal comparison, I should have ensured that the cappuccinos in the
population had the same price in liquid ounces. Additionally, some coffee shops
such as Starbucks include tax in the prices listed on their menus, whereas others do
not. The combined effect of the methodological problems and sampling biases
leads me to conclude that my sample is most likely biased. Since confidence
intervals are usually centered around sample means, which are supposed to be
equal to the population means, there is evidence to believe that the constructed
confidence interval contains the population mean despite the fact that it is most
likely biased. First of all, the coffee shops I sampled are quite representative of San
Francisco coffee shops by general price. Most of the coffee shops sampled were
within the inexpensive to moderate price range as described by Yelp, which is quite
representative of coffee shop prices in San

King of the Bingo Game and Hills Like White Elephant To begin, tone happens to
be the common attitude shown throughout a piece of writing, and in this case it
would be the tone of the story King of the Bingo Game and Hills Like White
Elephant . In the story, King of the Bingo Game , I discovered that the tone was
extremely sad. Sad defines this story well, because this man, who was remained
nameless desperately tries to save the women who he loves, knowing that he doesn t
have a penny to his name to take her to the doctor. However, the end sense turns into
a total surprise and he goes crashing down and realizes that his luck is no more. To

For example, when the man says, I might have. Just because you say I wouldn t
have doesn t prove anything , when Jig states that he hasn t been around enough to
see these white elephants. This proves that even though they are physically
together, a lot of their conversation is very distant, in the sense that there is no real
foundation of their relationship. This brings controversy between Jig and him, on
the fact that she wants to get married and have a baby, but he seems to want her to
have an abortion. In the first story, a man was fighting his hardest for a lady that he
loved deeply and would do anything to win the money for his wife, whereas the
second story showed a lot of miscommunication and a breakdown on a man who is
not willing to do anything for his family. He was uncaring and selfish about with
his feelings towards Jig s opinion on the pregnancy and in his desire to get rid of
their white elephant , which is seen as their baby. A comparison that I found between
these two stories were the tone of being anxious. Both stories leave us with the
question of what will happen next? In the story by Ralph Ellison, we end off with the

Disadvantages Of Using Body Cameras
Disadvantages
One disadvantage regarding the use of Body cameras is not just the cost of the
cameras and the data storage but also the infrastructure that needs to be
maintained. As time goes on capacities will be exceeded, the networks will
continue to degrade, and the supplementary equipment required to store the videos
will continue to degrade or become obsolete. (1) In addition to this there is the
cost of employing people to catalog and retrieve any video footage related to
subpoenas, investigations and public information records requests as well as
software licensing fees. (3) Approximately 25 percent of the videos that are
collected are related to crimes and they must be kept for possible judicial purposes.
One police department reported having 35,000 videos retained that met this
requirement of possibly judicial need. (4) Police departments across the country that
have already instituted the use of body cameras have seen the costs of maintaining
these videos run into the millions of dollars just to manage the data not counting the
cost of buying the cameras. (11)
Another disadvantage is that departments are struggling with the issue of whether
or not officers should be allowed to view videos before preparing their police
reports. Concerns are that if officers are allowed to view the video then their
memory of the crime may be influenced by what they see on the video and may not
be a true reflection of what actually occurred which makes it unfair for both the
What Does It Mean To Be Created Equal Essay

We are all conceived the same way so it can be viewed as the creation of life, so in
the end we are technically created equal. What truly needs to be changed is the
way we view others. We need to change our mind sets and not have such narrow
point of views. We need to stop creating stereotypes about certain groups of people
and believing that it applies to all. Yes some people may be the epitome of a

Online Dating Analysis
Another aspect that social media drives is that of the human condition; one
interesting phenomena that has developed has been online dating. Although one
would hope that people are still meeting and developing relationships the old
fashioned way that being meeting face to face, online dating now represents (Beck
2013). In fact, in 2013, 23% of all people that meet online will get married (1). The
author establishes that the number is expected to continue to grow as more people
spend time online rather than in a live social setting. It could be argued that in the
absence of people meeting in settings conducive to intermingling, those who were
shy or seeking a specific type of person would use a datingservice. To a certain
extent, there is direct connectivity to having faith in a third party to match people.
Although afraid to engage the social network as a way of meeting a partner because
of the fear of the unknown, in reality it could be suggested that meeting someone
through a dating service also did not present that much more security (1).

Many researchers argue that social media provides a cloak by which people can hide
behind. In other instances, the Internet has established a place for those who fear

had to venture out into the world and had to communicate live with people, the
process developed social skills that are threatening to be lost as social networking
continues to grow. At the forefront is the notion that social media as well as personal
electronics is killing communication (Tardanico 2012). The author reflecting on an

The Struggle Over Kashmir, By Mohandas Gandhi
Introduction
The name Kashmir has become synonymous with slaying, destruction and religious
massacre in South Asia. Ever since the partition of India in 1947, when Britain
dismantled its Indian empire, India and Pakistan have been archrivals. What makes
this conflict interesting, conversely, is how much they hate one another. The hostility
between these two has been rooted not only in religion and history, but is exemplified
by the long running battle over the control of Jammu and Kashmir. Which has
recently intensified into a treacherous nuclear arms race.
How the conflict arose?

In just a period of four days over 5,000 people were killed during religious riots in
the Indian city of Calcutta. After the partition of India and Pakistan, to stop Kashmir
from being a part of India, Pakistan invaded them and tried to gain control. The
Maharaja of Kashmir at the time fled to India and offered a deal to let Kashmir be
under Indian control if India would defend Kashmir from further invasion. India
agreed and immediately sent out troops to fight off the Pakistani invaders. Per the
agreement, the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir makes up about 45% of
Kashmir. Pakistan controls three areas known as Azad Kashmir, Gilgit and
Baltistan, which make up about 35% of Kashmir. Finally, China controls one area
called Aksai Chin equaling to 20% of Kashmir. The people of Kashmir have the
same rights and privileges as any Indian citizen. The government of India has built
schools, hospitals and police stations for the Kashmiri people. But, the people of
Kashmir preferred to be a part of Pakistan due to their Islamic beliefs. Pakistan does
not acknowledge the control of Kashmir by India and still considers it their land.

At the beginning of the 20th century, China was bombarded by powerful Western
nations trying to apply as much control over it as possible. The Chinese opposed the
attempts of foreign control and expressed this at the beginning of the 20th century

The Chinese people became resentful of foreigners and dissatisfied with failure of the

With the positive coefficients, we will see an increase in one unit of each variable
separately compared with the advancement in diabetes. With a 0.05 parameter, the
linear regression model selects 5 predictor variables with significance, age, tc, ldl,
tch, and glu. To validate the assumption, we can plot the residuals versus the fitted
values to see if there are any indications of signs of random distributions. For the
residual plot, we see there are no indications or violations of random distribution and
can calculate the MSE of the model, which is 3111.265. Next, we will leverage the

best model. We can plot out best subset method and pinpoint the number of
variables to select. The plot below showcases that the lowest point or value of BIC,
contains 6 variables. We leverage the BIC metric because it places a penalty on
models with more or many variables. Meaning, the mode variable a model has, the
bigger the penalty. We can review the coefficients, standard errors, t value, and the p
values for the best subset method with the significant six variables. Our MSE metric
for the 6 variable best subset model is 3090.483, a slight decrease from our linear
regression model.

The Ethics Of File Sharing
CMSC 350 second paper Michael Montgomery
The Ethics of File Sharing
File sharing is the act of someone making a copy of a file and sending it to another
person. The method of sharing includes Internet peer to peer transfers, but also
includes physical CD copies, emails, and mobile storage devices. Companies are
justified in focusing on physical CD sales and online peer to peer file sharing, as their
sales have potential to cause harm. Loss of sales is indeed what is happening.
Consumers need to be more aware of the risks of file sharing. File sharing increases
risks of viruses or loss of personal info. Education on the risks and side effects of file
sharing need to exist or be clearer to the younger audience. File sharing spreads

In Taiwan 1997, music sales hit 12 billion in their country specific currency. That
statistic dropped to 2 billion at 2012 due to the increasing amount of internet
usage. (3) On further study via surveying usage, riskiness, and preferences of
media, people told an activity is likely to get caught doing and has a large fine is
7% likely to continue performing. This statistic is vs 75% likely to continue
performing illegal acts if low risk of getting caught and low fines. (3) Using this
information, increasing estimated risk and increasing actual fines will have a
great reduction in piracy (3). To do that, high schools and colleges need to push the
possibilities of getting caught and the severity of penalties. Education on the risks
of file sharing for consumers can lead to reduction of piracy, and increased safety
for users as well. File sharing doesn t just affect big companies. Single artists and
small bands have always strived to get their work out and hopefully also for sales
to continue making work. If consumers knew how businesses worked and the years
of time it takes for a product to become available, then they d be less likely to steal
via pirating. Piracy has protections, Recent research done by the Vienna University
of Technology shows that distributing infected cracks or keygens is one of the ways
malware can spread... Their analysis shows that about 50% of collected cracks and
keygens tested are infected with malware (8). If customers
Remarks At The Brandenburg Gate Summary
Remarks at the Brandenburg Gate
At the time when tensions were high and the once divided people of Berlin were
beginning to lose hope, Reagan was able to captivate millions and not only unite the
Berliners but also the world.President Reagan was a man with strong beliefs that
made his statements believable and logical.Claiming the benefits of living in a free,
democratic country, Ronald Reagan uses pathos, logos and ethos to sympathize with
the Berlin people.Given the time and place when the speech was given, Ronald
Reagan took advantage to address the Berlin people of their misfortune and
provided a sense of support and hope making his speech more monumental than
what it already was. Ronald Reagan was naturally a good rhetoric; and he used his
abilities to persuade the world of the injustice of the Berlin wall and win over the
Berlin people. Remarks at the Brandenburg Gate by Ronald Reagan was a powerful
and compelling speech for its time and helped persuade the people to end communism
and reunite the people of Germany.
President Reagan was a man with strong beliefs that made his statements believable
and logical. He believed that democracy was the way to go and communism was the
root of all evil. In Philip Kostka s piece, he addresses, The president presents us with
the basic idea that freedom is the natural state of man, and that one reaches his fullest
potential under freedom. In contrast, totalitarianism holds individuals back, keeps one

Harriet Tubman Biography
Harriet Tubman has become the center of a lot of attention recently when it was
announced she would be on the new 20 dollar bill. Being on a U.S. currency note is
pretty important. One of the reasons she is on the countries most used currency is the
fact she is probably the most famous conductor of the underground railroad. [Harriet

Tubman during the civil was a spy, a cook and a nurse for the union.

Video Games, Violence and Parenting Essay
The ignorance of people who argue against this shows their one minded views on this
topic. This leads to three obvious conclusions.
One: Parents refuse to take responsibility to teach their children right from wrong. If
a parent teaches them what is and what isn t okay, then the majority of those kids are
not going to grow up and think that it s cool and awesome to run around imitating
things they see on the T.v. or in video games.
Parents who refuse to take this responsibility should also refuse to buy the games in
the first place Most if not all violent games get at least a Ages 15+ rating on them.
Two: children growing up in a violent environment, being beaten or spoken harshly to.
Three: Almost every game these days has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So if they just whine and cry till they get what the want, they re not going to learn
patience. And when they don t learn patience at a young age this can lead to violence
when they re older. This is probably a bigger issue than the violence in games.
When children play violent games, their parents should supervise them and ensure
they know that it is just a game, keep reassuring them that you couldn t get away
with this or that in real life, this is if you let them play violent games at a young age.
If you are more responsible and don t let them play violent games till they re more
mature, (disregarding that they would probably go to a friends house and play them)
then they would already know that violence is bad and they shouldn t re create
anything they see in the games.
But, sometimes, a child is just brought up in a violent environment and this is what
would probably influence their violent side more than video games or T.v.
Being talked down to or swore at when they do something a normal child would do,
they would either bottle it up or just cry on the spot.
Being hit is just not good at all, as a parent you should love and care for your child,
hitting them might provoke them to hit you when they re an older age, or being a
school bully. Being the school bully usually comes from the child having a bad up
bringing or just trying to show off to his peers.
And lastly, almost every video game these days does

Greek Treatment Of Women In Medea By Euripides
A Greek Tragedy, Medea, by Euripides gives a backstory on the life of an
adventurer and a woman madly in love. Previous Greek tragedies state that Jason,
the love of Medea s life only loves her in order to retrieve the Golden Fleece to
retain his rightful throne. His encounter with Medea results to him agreeing to marry
her so that she could assist him in his journey. Medeaholds great power and
judgement as a sorceress. The beginning of the play told by the nurse synopsizes the
story of Medea s melodramatic situation. Euripidesillustrates her differently as a
woman in her society during her time of era. They may be seen as victims, heroes,
and villains. In further explanation, Medea s origin seems to be unusual to Greek
standards. She comes from a royal family in the land of Colchis. Through Greek
standards, women were meant to be housewives, cooking and cleaning. They had
no say in their society due to men holding a higher status; in fact Euripides
criticizes the male domination of society. It appears that men are seen as imbeciles.
For example, King Creon made a wrong mistake not exiling Medea right then and
there. By allowing her to stay her plans are set for action; Now if you must stay, stay

Back then woman were shown as insignificant to Greek men; but when women
made appearances in tragedies, their performance consisted of complex roles.
They often took the role of major characters as they made impersonations of
victims, heroes, and villains. Evidence from Medea refers to these impersonation.
As a hero, Medea is the daughter of Aeetes, King of Colchis, therefore since she is
a royal she may be considered a tragic hero. As a victim, Medea goes through an
unsettling situation amongst her partner which explains her reason for being upset,

very young age. He learned to play piano by ear by the age of four, and soon became
adept at playing a wide range of classical pieces (Elton John). Elton Won a
scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music as a youth; began playing piano with a

the Beatles music publisher Dick James. James signed the pair to a songwriting
contract that Gave them an income of about ten pounds, which was the start of his

An Inquiry into the Dilemma of the Turkish Language Essay
Turkish is one of the youngest and rapidly developing languages; furthermore
approximately 80 million people speak Turkish as a mother language in the world.
1928 was a very crucial year for the development of the Modern Turkish language
because Latin alphabet adopted instead of Arabic script and after this transition
numerous events sequentially shape the Turkish language. On the other hand, the use
of contemporary the Turkish language triggers some concerns. Although the Turkish
language has been searching ways out for sophisticated dilemmas since 1920 s, it

minority groups and their native languages by attempting to marginalize them within

political pressure on the minority groups. Another vital point is the Turkish
government did not recognize even the Kurdish, Arabic, Circassian tongues because
of the mainstream nationalist discourse persecuted to the community. Until the
liberalization period, those kinds of pressures and attrition policies densely influenced
the Turkish language s evolution. In 1980 s, Turgut Г–zal introduced imported goods

Native Son Oppression
The Effects of Poverty and Oppression The novels Native Son by Richard Wright
and The Prince and the Pauper by Mark Twain both show the effects of poverty and
oppression. Both novels do so by showing its effects on poor people, rich people,
and the society in which they live. In Native Son, the main character becomes bitter
and violent as a result of the racism and oppression he lives under, very much like
John Canty in The Prince and the Pauper, who becomes a criminal and beats his son
because of his poverty. In both stories, the rich people benefit on the backs of the
poorer characters. In The Prince and the Pauper, King Henry VIII jails and kills
people based on their religion, while Mr. Dalton of Native Son profits off of forcing

He has spent so long fighting against his poverty that he has built up a tough wall
around him that ends up causing him to hurt other people. Likewise, many of the
prisoners in the jail where Edward stays in The Prince and the Pauper are very
casual about the injustices that they face while Edward is shocked at all the
terrible things that he was completely immune to as prince. This new knowledge of
Edward s is what seperates how he and Bigger end up at the end of their respective
novels. Edward was so naive that this knowledge came as a complete shock to him
and therefore it made a large impact on how he ruled once he became king. He
says, What dost thou know of suffering and oppression? I and my people know, but
not thou. (Twain 120), clearly thinking back on his experiences as Tom and the
people he met who were suffering and oppressed. Unfortunately, Bigger was not so
lucky as Edward. The mistakes caused by his social callous cause him to be
sentenced to death. Both characters are affected by their societal oppressions, yet
both deal with it in different way, which ends up leading to their vastly different

RAM is an acronym for Random Access Memory. It s a memory module in the
computer which stores data temporarily in the RAM instead of in the hard drive.
Ram is a type of volatile memory without electricity, RAM is empty. A larger size
of RAM enables the computer to run more program simultaneously instead of
paging (The process of running the program from the hard drive to the Ram).
RAM size affects in playing games. A game with large file size generally requires
large amount of memory available in order to have a smooth gameplay. Without
enough RAM, the Game Performance will be affected and can cause a drop in
framerate or can crash the games. A decent RAM size required to run a smooth
game is around 8GB, but to get the best result is around 16GB of memory.
Motherboard
A motherboard is the main printed circuit board (PCB) found in general purpose
microcomputers and other expandable systems. It holds and allow the interactions of
many other computer components such as the CPU, RAM and others. With all these
interactions, it allows the computer to integrate as one system to accomplish what it

A Research On Schizophrenia And Anorexia Nervosa
Epigenetic s is a term that describes everything that happens in the gene expression
process that is above the genome. The epigenetic process is typically due to histone
modification, CpG island methylation, RNA associated silencing, and some other
factors. The process is triggered via cell to cell signaling, neighborhood cells sending
signals, physiology, and environment. The epigenetic change can be transient,
permanent, or heritable. In my chosen paper, the researchers are looking into how the
social environment can get into the mind in a way that results in psychiatric disorders
such as schizophrenia, major depressive disorder (MDD), post dramatic stress
disorder (PTSD), anorexia nervosa, and substance dependence. Even though the
review article covers five types of mental disorders, I m going to focus on
schizophrenia and anorexia nervosa. Overtime, research has shown a robust relation
between the social environment and the prevalence of mental illness. In large western
cities, like NYC, there is a higher frequency in those that have schizophrenia,
increased labor stress helps facilitate MDD development, natural disasters have been
associated with PTSD, and social and relationship problems help induce the onset of
eating disorders. It is also important to note that heritable factors also play a part, and
that the resulting mental disorder is thought to occur due to an interaction between
the social environment and heritable factors. In a schizophrenia twin study, even

The Korean Religious Heritage
Korea s religious heritage has contributed to the teaching of the Unification Church.
Since it first appeared on Korean soil and was nourished by the Korean philosophy of
life, the new movement was naturally influenced to some extent by its environment.
Just as Eastern Orthodoxy cannot be understood apart from Christian Hellenism, and
Roman Catholicism is a product of Latin civilization, so the Unification Church
greatly profited from the religious development of its homeland.
Korea s indigenous religion, like that of most early cultures, was a form of shamanism

Let me mention five. First, Buddhism is a religion which stresses the need for
salvation. According to Gautama s four fold truth, every man suffers because of his
insatiable desires. Men find themselves caught in a ceaseless craving for pleasure
which inevitably results in disappointment, pain, frustration and emptiness. What
Buddhism offers is a way to escape this meaningless merry go round.
Secondly, according to Buddha, liberation or enlightenment can only be achieved as a
result of self discipline and self denial. There is no easy way out of the human
predicament. An individual must curb his sensuous desires and master his body.
Gradually but vigorously he must extinguish the craving for physical pleasures. To
accomplish this, Buddhists have to practice strenuous moral and intellectual
disciplines.
Thirdly, Mahayana Buddhism reinforces the stem ethic of Gautama s teachings with
a vivid eschatology. Those who live morally here on earth will be rewarded by the
bliss of the Pure Land Paradise. But those who violate the moral commandments will
be punished in hell until they have paid for their folly. At least in popular Buddhism
(that taught to the laity), the promise of heavenly reward and the threat of hell s
torments have been an important stimulus to ethical behavior.
Fourthly, Mahayana Buddhism emphasizes the supreme value of self sacrifice. The
highest ideal is to be a Bodhisattva. A Bodhisattva is one who has earned the right to
enjoy the

The rat has a thin coat of black fur, and it somewhat smaller than the brown rat. A
black rat has a lifespan of at most a year in the wild, but when held captive, a black
rat can live up to around 4 years. Black rats usually have around 8
Summary Of Perseverance In Deborah Ellis The Bread

father had built to hide the few books... Get out of my house! she yelled. She threw
herself at the soldiers with such force that they both fell to the ground. This

reader can infer that at first, Parvana was really reluctant to dig up bones, but later,
she goes with it anyway, because her family depends on her to get the money. This
shows perseverance because she is doing something difficult that demonstrates
bravery and difficulty. To wrap it up, Parvana shows perseverance by attacking the

Honor And Glory By Homer

Honor and Glory
The idea of obtaining honor and glory are what Greek characters dedicate their lives
to. The Greeks lived by a heroic code, which shaped their society. Being remembered,
as a great warrior, is one of the highest honors a Greek soldier can obtain. Honor and
glory are the cause of the Trojan War, which takes the lives of many men. Honor and
Glory are what define the hero in the epic poem, The Iliad, written by Homer.
Throughout the Iliad, honor and glory is the motivation behind the characters, there
are different ways to obtain honor and glory, and the different views of honor
throughout the epic poem.
The idea of honor and glory are essential to understanding the motivation behind the
characters in the Iliad. Glory was gained by the heroic actions and deeds. The best
opportunity to gain honor was during a battle. A warrior would try and obtain honor
during the battle, no matter the cost. The importance of honor can be seen in Hector
s final battle when he says, Let me not then die ingloriously and without a struggle,
but let me first do some great thing that shall be told among men hereafter. (Homer,
Iliad 22.232) Hector has accepted that he will die at the hand of Achilles. However, he
wishes to be remembered as a great warrior of Troy. Hector does not wish to have his
live spared, but rather he wishes to do some honorable deed and die with honor and
glory. Glory came as a

Lord Of The Flies Leadership Essay. Lord of the flies leadership by emmazunino3

  • 1. Lord Of The Flies Leadership Essay Crafting an essay on the subject of leadership in "Lord of the Flies" poses a formidable challenge due to the complexity of the novel itself. William Golding's narrative delves into the intricate dynamics of human behavior and power, making it a rich but intricate tapestry to unravel. The multifaceted characters, symbolic elements, and evolving plotlines demand a profound understanding to dissect the nuances of leadership presented in the story. The task involves not only analyzing the characters' leadership styles but also unraveling the underlying themes and symbolism inherent in their actions. Extracting meaningful insights from the novel requires a keen eye for literary devices and an ability to connect them to the broader theme of leadership. Moreover, the essay must navigate through the morally ambiguous terrain explored by Golding, addressing the dark aspects of human nature and their implications for leadership. One must also grapple with the challenge of drawing parallels between the events in the novel and real-world examples of leadership, drawing insightful comparisons that enrich the analysis. This requires a deep exploration of psychological and sociological theories related to leadership, adding an additional layer of complexity to the essay. Conveying these intricate ideas in a coherent and organized manner poses yet another hurdle. The essay must strike a balance between in-depth analysis and clarity, ensuring that the reader can follow the intricate arguments without losing sight of the overarching theme. Crafting a compelling thesis statement that encapsulates the essence of the essay adds to the difficulty, demanding a nuanced understanding of the subject matter. In conclusion, tackling an essay on leadership in "Lord of the Flies" requires not only a comprehensive understanding of the novel but also the ability to navigate the complex web of ideas presented by Golding. It demands analytical prowess, a keen eye for detail, and an aptitude for connecting literary elements to broader concepts. Navigating this intricate terrain necessitates patience, diligence, and a commitment to unraveling the layers of meaning embedded in the narrative. For those seeking assistance with such challenging essays, various resources are available. Similar essays and more can be ordered on HelpWriting.net, where skilled writers can provide the necessary support to navigate the complexities of literary analysis and essay writing. • 2. How Does Mary Anne Change In The Sweetheart Of Song Tra Bong War never changes, but people do. In Sweetheart of Song Tra Bong a young medic decides to fly his high school sweetheart, Mary Anne, to Vietnam so they can spend time together after he discovers the lack of discipline in camp. When Mary Anne arrives she is innocent, bubbly, flirtatious, and curious with blonde hair, long legs, and blue eyes. Her curiosity gets her involved in some of the medical activities in camp, then she starts assembling guns and visiting local towns. Mary Anne gets hooked. She cuts her hair, stops wearing makeup and jewelry, and no longer wants to get married and settle down with Mark. In Sweetheart of Song Tra Bong Tim O Brien communicates the power that Vietnam and the warhad in absorbing and contorting people. When ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First, she cuts her hair short and puts in a bandana, stops wearing makeup and jewelry, and ceases to worry about personal hygiene. Then, Mark catches her on an ambush with a team of Green Berets and yells at her. He no longer recognizes her in her bush hat and filthy green fatigues; she carried the standard M 16 automatic assault rifle; her face was black with charcoal (98). In two weeks she has gone from someone with complexion as sweet as a strawberry and skin that was even untouched by the sun to a soldier that lays in the dirt holding a weapon to end someone s life, ignoring her innocence and covering it up with a black charcoal alter ego. After he yells at her, she leaves with the Green Berets for three weeks (94). This decision to leave is the final leap towards a new Mary Anne, as she has now decided that fighting with the Green Berets is more important to her than staying with the man she was engaged to marry. She returns once more, this time with glowing jungle green eyes instead of blue, symbolizing her complete entrance into war (101). She is now one with the green mountains of Vietnam. She has now decided that the war is more important than getting married, starting a family, or even going home. This decision was made time and time again by millions of young men who had gone to Vietnam as a consequence of having their birth on the wrong day. Only a few of these men exited Vietnam as the same person that
  • 3. Greenhouse Gases Lab Report Greenhouse Gases The Earth absorbs solar energy and most of this energy is later released as heat, or IR radiation. Most of the gas molecules in the atmosphere are not able to absorb this energy and it passes through and out into space. Carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, chlorofluorocarbons, and certain other gases absorb IR radiation from the Earth s surface and re emit it in all directions. These gases act like the glass in a greenhouse to increase the temperature of the planet. IR Absorption The homonuclear diatomic molecules that make up the bulk of the atmosphere (N2 and O2) do not absorb IR radiation because they have no IR active vibrations. What makes a vibrational mode IR active? An electromagnetic field interacts with a molecular bond by affecting the dipole moment of that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is the reciprocal of wavelength and is proportional to energy. Examine the simplest situation. Infrared radiation is absorbed by the stretching vibration of a simple diatomic molecule (CO, HCl, NO, for example). This stretch is the only vibrational mode for a diatomic molecule. Stretching Vibrations 1.There is movement along the bond axis. 2.Interatomic distances change. 3.There is NO change in the center of gravity. Non linear molecules have more vibrational modes. Water has 3 of these. Vibrational Modes 1.symmetric stretch 2.asymmetric stretch 3.scissoring bend Carbon Dioxide IR radiation excites some of the possible vibrational modes in carbon dioxide. Essay On How To Throw A Baseball Pitch Many times, someone who plays baseball, or knows something about baseball, may see someone simply throw a rock and think, Wow, they really could have a future with the arm they have. You may not be interested in baseball, but you can be enlightened with something from people who are very good at what they do. Maybe, some of you could take some things, and apply them, and you will find a hidden talent. The topic of enlightenment is how to throw different baseballpitches. First off, the supplies that are needed are, but certainly are not limited to: a baseball, a baseball glove, another person with a baseball glove, and an open area. A pitching mound can be used to gain the full potential of the pitches you will learn to throw. Also, catchers equipment and a catcher would benefit you to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To reach this potential, you can take lessons from someone who has perfected the craft of pitching. With all of these things, you must now learn to throw the pitches. After having gained all the materials needed and having the proper instruction, you can now begin learning to throw different pitches. However, you must first know what each pitch does, what the pitch is used to do, and how the pitch is most effective for you. The three main pitches are the fastball, change up, and curveball. To start, the fastball is a pitch that has the most speed out of any other pitch. While the pitch is called a fastball, there are two different types of fastballs: the two seam and the four seam. The two seam fastball is relatively similar to the four seam, however the two seam will move into a right handed batter and away from a left handed batter. The fastball is used to get a strike on the batter, set the batter nup for an offspeed pitch, and often, it is used after an offspeed pitch to disrupt the hitter s timing. Now, the curveball is often the pitch with the lowest velocity. A curveball also has the most movement among all pitches.

The lower class students are usually labelled in school, as the ones who are uneducated, unmotivated, and predictable when the schooling gets harder. This leads to the lower class students often feeling demoralized and uninspired to become better, so they give up without even trying to succeed. With little to none support from their family, most of these students start school unable to read, they test poorly, and are often absent a lot more than usual. Education usually becomes of not of importance within this social group. By the time, these students are actually eligible for special programs, grants, or loans they are often unmotivated or disadvantaged and unwilling to accept help from others, which leads to the decline of education in the lower class, further separating the educational levels between

She may have to make a choice to save her business, which would be at the cost of her employee s welfare. Therefore, in this paper we will explore through the various ethical theories and help Taylor adopt an ethical decision that will save the future of her business and employees. The main ethical dilemma is that Taylor likes to pay her employees a higher wage so they are able to live a comfortable lifestyle. However, if she continues to employ her employees at a higher wage in comparison to her competitors then she may run out of business soon. This is because her competitors are keeping their lumber prices low... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The employees will receive satisfaction momentarily and will eventually face unemployment in the future, due to the shutting down of the business. This approach could be criticized for being ethical and helpful for only a short period of time. Deontology, however, focuses on the study of the fundamental duties in life. It suggests dealing with moral dilemmas ideally by obeying preset rules. If Taylor chooses to seek the best solution among the alternatives in accordance with the theory of Deontology, then she may choose to lower the wages of her employees in order to keep the business running or let go off a few workers and employ the rest at the current wage. This may be considered ethical keeping in mind the rules of business that prevents a business owner from jeopardizing his/her own business. At the same time it can be argued that by following the rules of business, one may contradict the basic duties of life towards other beings, which has been emphasized by many deontologists. Consequentialism on the other hand, accounts for the consequences of actions. In fact consequentialists don t take in to consideration the intention behind actions and are driven towards the end results. One of the highlighted

Ethical Issues In Correctional Facilities Another ethical problem is that in correctional facilities it is not spoken openly about transgender rights and what can be done to ensure safety for all no matter their gender identity. In an article written by Asmar detailing the experience of Hill, a transgender who identifies herself as a woman in a male prison, was raped by her cellmate. Whenever she asked for help or reported what happened to her, the staff did not believe her. For instance, when she was violently raped by her cellmate she wrote a letter to a nurse who was handing out medications. The nurse s response to her note was unethical and unprofessional as she asked her if it was real and that ...it better be real (Asmar, 2015). There are many concerns with the nurse s response.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Training classes will help nurses to understand the definitions and terms, being empathic to transgender individuals in prison, and provide gender affirming healthcare services (Wahowiak, 2016). It is also important to note what led them to become incarcerated so that as a nurse you can help prevent them from being incarcerated again. Treating transgender individuals with fairness, dignity, and respect is extremely important because that is how you develop a nurse patient relationship (NCCHC, 2015). Patient safety will also have an impact on the profession of nursing as our mission is to protect, heal, and advocate for our patients regardless of their gender identity. Transgender inmates are at risk for violence and sexual assault or harassment. As nurses, it is our duty to ensure that while they are incarcerated they are being treated equally, receiving the same healthcare treatment as others and that we report any incidents. Housing should also be addressed so that they can be housed based on their gender identity instead of their genitalia. Previously mentioned, transgender individuals are denied their medication because the healthcare system is indifferent to their needs and views it as unimportant compared to the rest. In spite of this, what they fail to see is that if they keep denying them their medications and sex reassignment surgery, they become more liable because it will lead to self castration or mutilation. As a result, they become responsible for what happens in prison and if they become ill from catching an infection due to self castration the health professionals become questionable. These works, aside from being visually and intellectually stimulating, have been used to challenge and encourage an audience to think about what it s representing in flexible and open minded ways, this is usually done by shocking the audience out of their complacency when viewing artworks. The great artists of the Conceptual Artmovement especially emphasised this by focusing more on the concept behind a piece than the art itself. Three particular artists that are famous for challenging audiences with their work include Marcel Duchamp(1887 1968), Jenny Holzer (1950 present) and Ai WeiWei (1957 present). Even though these three artists are part of different times, countries, political and cultural movements, they all use their works to confront and challenge every part of their audience including critics, the media and the general public. Marcel Duchamp is widely considered as one of the most influential artists of the 20th century, his early works saw him in the Post Impressionist movement however his want for art to be in the service of the mind saw his move away from that style of art. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gloaguen (1998) used meta analysis to compare the use of CBT and behavioural therapy in treating patients with depression. The study was controlled for using waiting list and placebo controls. CBT was found to be superior when compared to the controls, and also when compared to behavioural therapy, although most of the behavioural therapy trials analysed were uncontrolled. This aside, when compared to control groups CBT does have an advantage over no treatment, which is evidence of the concept that it is better than nothing for individuals suffering from depression as it can improve their quality of life. A recent trial (DeRubeis et al., 2005) found antidepressants (serotonin reuptake inhibitors) to be equally as effective in the treatment of individuals with moderate to severe as CBT. Although both treatments can be seen as equally effective, the use of CBT does not require people to ingest drugs, so if both are equally as effective the CBT would be the clear choice for individuals with depression. The evidence for the area of depression and the usefulness of CBT is mixed, in spite of this, it s merits are clearly obvious. Another area where CBT is used is in the treatment of individuals with obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). The novel depicted the journey of Cal, the narrator, as he struggled with his gender and sexual identity. I found Eugenides use of first person narration compelling because it allowed me to feel a greater connection to Cal, the narrator. Throughout the novelhe provided insight on his experiences, while also telling the tale of his familys immigration to Detroit, Michigan. By relaying stories of Desdemona and Lefty s early experiences in Smyrna and America I felt as though I gained a deeper understanding of Cal and his family. However, because he was not present during these events, I felt conflicted over whether or not he was a trustworthy, authoritative narrator. He simply retold what information he had been fed, thus I felt he lacked ethos and credibility. Additionally, I was intrigued by the various settings throughout the novel and felt they added to the overall appeal and intrigue of the plot. In the novel Cal described the polarization and hatred of two opposing social groups in both Smyrna and Detroit: in Smyrna the Greeks versus the Turks and in Detroit the blacks versus the whites. This subtle juxtaposition was alluring and allowed for Eugenides to develop underlying conflicts different than the conflicts that Cal and his family struggled with. I interpreted this foil as a means by which Eugenides added his own social commentary to the novel, as he illustrated that regardless of the

The next most important staples of the society were the concepts of braver, pride, and hospitality, or Xenia. The significance of these values is shown quite clearly in The Odyssey of Homer. In the first five books of the epic, Telemachos is shown great hospitality by the kings, Nestor, and Menelaos. • 28. Cappuccino In San Francisco To determine just how expensive a cappuccino was in San Francisco, I sampled cappuccino prices at 36 coffee shops scattered across San Francisco. The sample mean price of a cappuccino is $3.54 (xМ…) with a sample standard deviation, or a standard error, of $0.55 (s). The prices ranged from $2.50 to $4.40. To construct a 99% confidence interval for this sample, I multiplied the standard error by the z statistic corresponding with 99%, 2.576, and added/subtracted that value from the point estimate, $3.54. The resultant confidence interval was [$2.13, $4.96]. In other words, if I continued sampling cappuccino coffee prices and creating unique samples of sufficient size, both including and not including the coffee shops already sampled, 99% of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is possible, albeit unlikely, that the prices shown on these cafe s websites is different from the prices they actually sell cappuccinos at. I also failed to correct for inconsistencies in cappuccino prices. Cappuccino sizes are not standardized, so I tried to pick the smallest size whenever possible, which varied from Small at most cafes to Tall at Starbucks to 12 oz at other institutions. In order to provide a basis for equal comparison, I should have ensured that the cappuccinos in the population had the same price in liquid ounces. Additionally, some coffee shops such as Starbucks include tax in the prices listed on their menus, whereas others do not. The combined effect of the methodological problems and sampling biases leads me to conclude that my sample is most likely biased. Since confidence intervals are usually centered around sample means, which are supposed to be equal to the population means, there is evidence to believe that the constructed confidence interval contains the population mean despite the fact that it is most likely biased. First of all, the coffee shops I sampled are quite representative of San Francisco coffee shops by general price. Most of the coffee shops sampled were within the inexpensive to moderate price range as described by Yelp, which is quite representative of coffee shop prices in San

King of the Bingo Game and Hills Like White Elephant To begin, tone happens to be the common attitude shown throughout a piece of writing, and in this case it would be the tone of the story King of the Bingo Game and Hills Like White Elephant . In the story, King of the Bingo Game , I discovered that the tone was extremely sad. Sad defines this story well, because this man, who was remained nameless desperately tries to save the women who he loves, knowing that he doesn t have a penny to his name to take her to the doctor. However, the end sense turns into a total surprise and he goes crashing down and realizes that his luck is no more. To contrast the story, Hills Like White Elephant, I would say the ending tone of the story is entirely different... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, when the man says, I might have. Just because you say I wouldn t have doesn t prove anything , when Jig states that he hasn t been around enough to see these white elephants. This proves that even though they are physically together, a lot of their conversation is very distant, in the sense that there is no real foundation of their relationship. This brings controversy between Jig and him, on the fact that she wants to get married and have a baby, but he seems to want her to have an abortion. In the first story, a man was fighting his hardest for a lady that he loved deeply and would do anything to win the money for his wife, whereas the second story showed a lot of miscommunication and a breakdown on a man who is not willing to do anything for his family. He was uncaring and selfish about with his feelings towards Jig s opinion on the pregnancy and in his desire to get rid of their white elephant , which is seen as their baby. A comparison that I found between these two stories were the tone of being anxious. Both stories leave us with the question of what will happen next? In the story by Ralph Ellison, we end off with the wheel landing on the double zero and the curtains coming

Disadvantages Of Using Body Cameras Disadvantages One disadvantage regarding the use of Body cameras is not just the cost of the cameras and the data storage but also the infrastructure that needs to be maintained. As time goes on capacities will be exceeded, the networks will continue to degrade, and the supplementary equipment required to store the videos will continue to degrade or become obsolete. (1) In addition to this there is the cost of employing people to catalog and retrieve any video footage related to subpoenas, investigations and public information records requests as well as software licensing fees. (3) Approximately 25 percent of the videos that are collected are related to crimes and they must be kept for possible judicial purposes. One police department reported having 35,000 videos retained that met this requirement of possibly judicial need. (4) Police departments across the country that have already instituted the use of body cameras have seen the costs of maintaining these videos run into the millions of dollars just to manage the data not counting the cost of buying the cameras. (11) Another disadvantage is that departments are struggling with the issue of whether or not officers should be allowed to view videos before preparing their police reports. Concerns are that if officers are allowed to view the video then their memory of the crime may be influenced by what they see on the video and may not be a true reflection of what actually occurred which makes it unfair for both the

To validate the assumption, we can plot the residuals versus the fitted values to see if there are any indications of signs of random distributions. For the residual plot, we see there are no indications or violations of random distribution and can calculate the MSE of the model, which is 3111.265. Both novels do so by showing its effects on poor people, rich people, and the society in which they live. In Native Son, the main character becomes bitter and violent as a result of the racism and oppression he lives under, very much like John Canty in The Prince and the Pauper, who becomes a criminal and beats his son because of his poverty. In both stories, the rich people benefit on the backs of the poorer characters. Likewise, many of the prisoners in the jail where Edward stays in The Prince and the Pauper are very casual about the injustices that they face while Edward is shocked at all the terrible things that he was completely immune to as prince. This new knowledge of Edward s is what seperates how he and Bigger end up at the end of their respective novels. Edward was so naive that this knowledge came as a complete shock to him and therefore it made a large impact on how he ruled once he became king. He says, What dost thou know of suffering and oppression? I and my people know, but not thou. The mistakes caused by his social callous cause him to be sentenced to death. The epigenetic process is typically due to histone modification, CpG island methylation, RNA associated silencing, and some other factors. The process is triggered via cell to cell signaling, neighborhood cells sending signals, physiology, and environment. The epigenetic change can be transient, permanent, or heritable. In my chosen paper, the researchers are looking into how the social environment can get into the mind in a way that results in psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia, major depressive disorder (MDD), post dramatic stress disorder (PTSD), anorexia nervosa, and substance dependence. Even though the review article covers five types of mental disorders, I m going to focus on schizophrenia and anorexia nervosa. Overtime, research has shown a robust relation between the social environment and the prevalence of mental illness. In large western cities, like NYC, there is a higher frequency in those that have schizophrenia, increased labor stress helps facilitate MDD development, natural disasters have been associated with PTSD, and social and relationship problems help induce the onset of eating disorders. It is also important to note that heritable factors also play a part, and that the resulting mental disorder is thought to occur due to an interaction between the social environment and heritable factors. In a schizophrenia twin study, even

Since it first appeared on Korean soil and was nourished by the Korean philosophy of life, the new movement was naturally influenced to some extent by its environment. Just as Eastern Orthodoxy cannot be understood apart from Christian Hellenism, and Roman Catholicism is a product of Latin civilization, so the Unification Church greatly profited from the religious development of its homeland. Korea s indigenous religion, like that of most early cultures, was a form of shamanism . This original faith has never completely disappeared and still exerts considerable influence. According to Gautama s four fold truth, every man suffers because of his insatiable desires. Men find themselves caught in a ceaseless craving for pleasure which inevitably results in disappointment, pain, frustration and emptiness. What Buddhism offers is a way to escape this meaningless merry go round. Secondly, according to Buddha, liberation or enlightenment can only be achieved as a result of self discipline and self denial. There is no easy way out of the human predicament. An individual must curb his sensuous desires and master his body. Gradually but vigorously he must extinguish the craving for physical pleasures. To accomplish this, Buddhists have to practice strenuous moral and intellectual disciplines. Thirdly, Mahayana Buddhism reinforces the stem ethic of Gautama s teachings with a vivid eschatology. Those who live morally here on earth will be rewarded by the bliss of the Pure Land Paradise. But those who violate the moral commandments will be punished in hell until they have paid for their folly. At least in popular Buddhism (that taught to the laity), the promise of heavenly reward and the threat of hell s torments have been an important stimulus to ethical behavior. Fourthly, Mahayana Buddhism emphasizes the supreme value of self sacrifice. The highest ideal is to be a Bodhisattva. A Bodhisattva is one who has earned the right to enjoy the
