Example Of Meme Research Paper
Meme had been born in the 1940 s, her older brothers soon went off to join the U.S. Army to fight in
World War II. Meme was born into a large family of poor farmers with seven other siblings. Allard
had been crippled from birth and was Meme s closest sibling. It had been a rough couple of years for
her starting out, especially since her family had been poor. One of Meme s favorite stories, after all,
was about how her first crib was a repurposed chester drawers.
How s it going Meme? I asked as I got into the little white car. Her real name was Alma Ford, but
everyone called her Meme ever since my mother was little.

This wouldn t even be the worst of her troubles, however. Her husband had been abusive and beat her

National Interest’ Is the Most Important Factor in the...
National interest is the most important factor in the formation of any foreign policy. Evaluate this
claim .
___________________________________________________________________
It would seem a self evident claim that national interest must play a significant part, if not a central
one, in the formation of any state s foreign policy. This claim could be made because it would appear
natural that the role of the state, in any situation, is primarily to further the interests of the society and
people that it represents. This is the basis of its legitimacy and the reason of its very existence. This
paper will explore the extent to which it can be said that states pursue national interests in their foreign
policy formation, regardless of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are also many theorists who subscribe to the idea that states are constantly involved in an
apparent game of power politics. Power politics is a perspective whereby international politics
inevitably entails perceptions of insecurity (...); struggles for power; the use of Machiavellian
stratagems; the presence of coercion; attempts to balance power; and the use of war to settle disputes
(Vasquez, 1998, p.168). The guiding assumption of this particular theory is that states have little to no
choice but to engage in this type of politics, and that failing to do so would have dire consequences in
so far that they would be [placing] their fate in the hands of international institutions or the good will
of others (Shimko, 2005, p.122). There is thus an underlying principle in this theory that suggests
states act not only to further their interests because they are inherently prone to act in this way, but that
to not do so would endanger their chances of survival. Strange (1983) is also strongly in favour of the
theory that it is essentially interest and power relationships that mediate behaviour in the international
system, in her critique of the impact of international regimes (which she believes play a somewhat
more negligible role). Unless a truly fundamental

Nike Vertical Integration Paper
Nike uses vertical integration strategy which is a form of a relationship oriented approach in coming
up with effective and efficient ways of managing its supply chain. This is achieved through forming
alliances and relationships rather than using pricing strategy with an aim of purchasing stuff as cheap
as possible (Frisch, 2008). The company has managed to maintain its relationship with contract
manufacturers for its foot ware by having different types of suppliers. The strategy is used in pricing
its commodities where they have participants at different channel levels so that they could control
costs and influence practices of pricing. For example, there are tier 1 suppliers and tier 2 suppliers
where the former are firms with a stronger relationship with Nike who act as more of a strategic ...

Several companies are using vertical integration as a way of reducing costs and increase efficiency,
which leading to increased competitiveness. Companies engaged in two kinds of vertical integration:

The Colonial Incentives for Independence Essays
The Colonial Incentives for Independence July 4th of 1776 is arguably the most significant day in
American history. On this day, the thirteen British colonies won their independence from Great
Britain, their mother country at the time. The war that allowed the colonies to gain their independence
was, of course, the American Revolution. One reason the colonists declaration of independence was
understandable was because after an extended period of salutary neglect, the British started imposing
laws on the colonies. Another reason was that the British violated colonists rights by implementing the
Proclamation of 1763. A third and final reason the colonies were correct in breaking away from Great
Britain was that although the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These taxes and laws angered the colonies as they had adapted to isolation and started to become more
independent.
A second reason was because the colonists rights were violated when the British passed the
Proclamation of 1763. This law was passed after the French and Indian War ended in 1763. It
restricted colonists to settle west of the Appalachian Mountains. Great Britain passed this law in order
to avoid quarrels with the Native Americans, but more importantly to control its colonies. The British
wanted to continue its system of mercantilism where the colonies could provide raw materials to Great
Britain, which guaranteed the market for exports. The colonists western expansion was being stopped
and at the same time laws and taxes were being inflicted on them. The restrictions that the British set
for expanding westward and their sudden involvement made colonists feel like their rights were being
violated.
Finally, the thirteen colonies had the right to secede from Great Britain because of their lack of
representation in British Parliament. After the Molasses Act, the Quartering Act, and the Stamp Act
were passed, the colonists cried out the well known expression, No taxation without representation.
The colonists

Bowl. Most early settlers used the land for livestock grazing until agricultural mechanization
combined with high grain prices during World War I. (Dust Bowl) People wanted even more when
they should have stopped sooner. By 1941 much of the land was rehabilitated, but the region repeated
its mistakes during World War II as farmers again plowed up grassland to plant wheat when grain
prices rose. (Dust Bowl) The land was improving a little bit, but the people made the same mistake
again. Lured by a land lush with shrubs, grasses, and soil so rich it looked like chocolate, the farmers

The Cause Of The Pueblo Revolt Of 1680
The cause of the Pueblo Revolt of 1680 has brought up a substantial amount of controversy between
historians. Several historians took the preserved historical documents and gathered information from
oral history to try and piece together the reason why the Pueblos revolted to begin with. Some
historians point to religion as the sole cause, while others say it required the right leader, and still
others point to the racial segregation and mixture of the Pueblos and Spanish blood as the cause of the
revolt. While each historian has his own viewpoint, it is important to look into the reasons why each
come to their own specific conclusions and determine if their argument is a biased or a balanced
perspective. The main things to consider are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Over the course of eighty years however, the Pueblos were able to learn the ways of the Spaniards
such as battle tactics, food storage, crop cultivation, and building up immunity to the diseases that
nearly eradicated their ancestors. When the drought and famine came during the time leading up to
1680, the Spaniards were likely becoming weaker and the Pueblos, an equally formidable force to
their own manpower. Therefore, when 1680 came around, it was prime time for the Pueblos to revolt
and gain back the freedom that their ancestors had once enjoyed. But not only that, because the
Spaniards could no longer protect the Pueblos from the Apache raids and promise them basic needs
like food and shelter, they felt that gaining their own dependence back and standing on their own feet
again was an option that was within reach. Garner points out that it was not likely that the Pueblos
were planning a revolt for the eighty years that they were in captivity, but it could have very well been
in the back of their minds. The year 1680 might have been the most ideal time for them to rise up
against the Spaniards. After explaining the main reason for the revolt, Garner goes on to focus on two
of the main arguments opposing his own. Unlike other historians, Garner ascertains that religion and
the harsh oppression of the Spanish were not sole causes of the revolt. To build his case, throughout
his paper, he compares

I Want To Be An Engineer In America
I have an aptitude for science and mathematics as evidenced by my high school record. There has
never been a doubt in my mind: I am destined to be an engineer. I inherited this from my father s
family of engineers whose background is in the farming and construction industries. But, my interest
in engineering developed further after several trips to visit my mother s family in Honduras. I began
thinking about the poverty, crime, and poor infrastructure. This triggered a question and interest in me:
How can I help improve Third World countries using engineering advancements? I had never been
exposed to the level of poverty and fear of violence that I saw when we made our first trip to San
Pedro Sula, Honduras. Honduras is now known as the murder capital of the world, and, as we drove

Per Adams, we may well be the only people on the planet who tend to believe, without irony, that
Thomas Paine was right when he declared that we have it in our power to begin the world over again.

Americans have dreamed of steady personal and national progress. The pursuit of happiness is a
phrase that moved from theory to reality in the New World. There was an endless frontier, amazing
natural resources, and combined with the American work ethic, it made the pursuit of happiness a
reality. If people were willing to work, they stood a chance of transcending the circumstances of their
father and their father s father. Now we hear arguments that the American Dream is about materialism;

Company Background Of The Company
KPMG Company Background
In 2012 the firm purchased the ONESOURCE Indirect Tax Managed Services business of Thomson
Reuters to further enhance its indirect tax compliance services. It made two acquisitions in 2011, as
well. KPMG L.L.P. bought Optimum Solutions, which provides management consulting and
implementation services to companies that use Oracle enterprise software. The move has enabled it to
serve clients with ERP and HR transformation needs. To boost capacity, the company and its UK
affiliate teamed up in 2011 to buy outsourcing advisory firm EquaTerra, adding another revenue
stream. The acquisition follows KPMG L.L.P. s 2010 purchase of the supply chain advisory services
unit of second tier accountancy Grant Thornton.
KPMG has been able to rebound from some past legal troubles. The drawn out drama began in 2005
when the firm admitted to unlawful conduct in an investigation by the Department of Justice. Former
partners of the firm created abusive tax shelters for more than 600 wealthy customers between 1996
and 2002; the unpaid taxes cost the Treasury more than $100 million. KPMG avoided criminal
prosecution by agreeing to pay $456 million in fines, restitution, and penalties. (A criminal indictment
led to the collapse of KPMG s former rival Arthur Andersen.) A federal jury found three ex KPMG
employees guilty in the tax shelter trial in 2008 (a fourth defendant was acquitted). Those former
managers were ordered to pay nearly $10 million in fines and received

Honey Bees Pollinators
Honey bees are pollinators that play a crucial role in our agriculture industry. Many people do not
realize how important a small insect can be. Bees pollinate many different crops from almonds to
coffee and account for the pollination of $15 billion worth of crops in the United States per year. From
April 2016 to April 2017 Beekeepers in the U.S. lost 33% of their honey bees ( U.S. Beekeepers
2017). The continued loss of honey bees has been due to several factors such as habitat loss, disease,
climate change, and in big part due to Neonicotinoid insecticide exposure. Having healthy bee
populations is critical since they are responsible for one out of every three bites of food we eat. Not
only are pollinators important for crops but they also have a role in native plant populations and
guaranteeing seed creation. Although the statistics above are from the United States it is important to
remember that insect pollinators are crucial to agriculture worldwide, and the main insect pollinators
are bees ( Pollination 2017). Brief 1: Federal Government The use of Neonicotinoid insecticides is
contributing to the decline of bee populations which are critical to pollinating our crops. Evidence of
Neonicotinoids effect on bees can be found in the peer review report Chronic exposure to
neonicotinoids reduces honey bee health near corn crops (Tsvetkov, et al. 2017). If nothing is
implemented to fix this it will end up having a substantial effect on our agricultural industry, and

John Wayne As An Example Of A Revisionist Western Film
The Western genre been highly prevalent in Hollywood films for decades. Beginning with The Great
Train Robbery in 1903, Western films have gained international many parts of Europe and Mexico in
addition to the United States. One classic example of a Western feature (full length) film is True Grit
(1969), which stars John Wayne as the strong, memorable protagonist, Rooster Cogburn. Although the
film follows many filmic conventions regarding the formula of the Western genre, it also defies certain
conventions, thus serving as an example of a revisionist Western. These qualities also carry over into
the recent remake, True Grit (2010), which contains the same plot as the original while making use of
modern cinematic techniques in order to make the film more exciting, dramatic and accessible for a
modern audience. Prior to the release of True Grit (1969), John Wayne had played starring roles in
countless other Western films, including Stagecoach (1939) and The Searchers (1956). By the 1960s,
John Wayne gained vast recognition among many audiences as the definitive celluloid icon of the
American Western. John Wayne?s popularity within Hollywood grew largely during the 1950s, during
the rise of revisionist western films. In addition, the film?s setting is consistent with previous films in
the genre. A small portion of the plot is set in a small town in Arkansas, while the bulk is set in the
sporadically populated, mountainous Indian Territory. There are several scenes in which

Desmond Doss is one of the most famous U.S conscientious objector in all of U.S military service

Desmond Doss was not fond of people making films or being portrayed in any sort of media because

MIXED THEORIES OF TORT LAW: AFFIRMING BOTH DETERRENCE AND CORRECTIVE
JUSTICE Gary T. Schwartza Copyright (c) 1997 Texas Law Review Association; Gary T. Schwartz
Introduction Currently there are two major camps of tort scholars. One understands tort liability as an
instrument aimed largely at the goal of deterrence, commonly explained within the framework of
economics. The other looks at tort law as a way of achieving corrective justice between the parties. If
these are alternative camps, they are also to a large measure unfriendly camps: much of the time each

to be an explosion of scholarship analyzing tort law in economic terms and emphasizing deterrence as
a primary tort objective.17 One major school of legal economists claims that economics provides a
splendid and nearly complete account of the body of tort doctrine.18 *1804 As it happens, deterrence
had not played a significant role in traditional tort scholarship. When Landes and Posner expounded
their theory of deterrence as a basic tort objective, they reviewed the record of early tort writings to
determine what support they could find for this theory; they ended up merely reporting that with the
benefit of hindsight, it is possible to find . . . prefigurings of the modern economic approach in

Native American Binary System
Gender is a complex socially constructed idea. Often people interchangeably use gender to refer to
someone s sex. This is not the case. Sex is the biological characteristics that makes someone a male,
female or intersex. Gender however is made up of expression, identity, and sexual orientation. Gender
identity is how one views themselves such as a woman, man or transgender. Gender identity does not
correspond to the sex of that person. Gender expression is how one expresses their gender identity.
This could be through a masculine , feminine or androgynous expression. In Western societies,
although there has been a push for change in our gender system, the gender system as been a binary
system. This binary system only believes that there are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout many Native American societies there have been a variety of sex/gender systems. As
Europeans came over to the Americas, Native people lost their gender systems and were forced to
conform to the binary system. Violence was sometimes carried out on these people such as being put

women and have sexual relations with men ( ). These native men were not understood and were

concept of not having a binary system and ultimately associated these men with homosexuality,

weaponry. Some people agree this was the bloodiest war in history. The question that makes many
wonder is, what was the main weapon that really caused all this bloodshed? During World War One
there were many new infantry weapons developed for this new war. This was the very first war fought
that did not require gunpowder for the weapons of war. This only made all weapons ten times more
deadly. Assault rifles were now bolt action, meaning that after every shot you would have to pull back
the bolt. This was a new mechanism added to weapons that allowed for a faster firing rate. Sidearms
were semi auto which meant that you could shoot as fast as you could pull the trigger. Infantry soldiers
were also given bayonets to insert at the end of their rifles so they could charge at the enemy in close
combat. Soldiers also carried grenades which they could throw at enemies for an explosion, killing
anyone within a 15 meter ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Artillery was more modern and it could be fired from greater distances, it fired explosive projectiles
across large distances. Artillery was used in almost everything. It could be used stop enemy advances,
cover friendly retreats, and to destroy tanks. When artillery was fired, it would often last for hours,
some days and even weeks. This weapon of war was everywhere, it was located in camps, railroad
cars, and even naval battleships. Mainly, artillery was used to counter trench warfare by killing
enemies hiding in trenches. This made it easier to combat enemy infantry. Considering artillery was
used in every strategic way possible, it was a major weapon of

Essay on In Defense of Historical Fiction
The genre of historical fiction novels can be subdivided into many categories and often crosses genres,
such as historical mysteries and romances. The traditional definition of the historical fiction genre is
fiction set in the past where the author is writing from research rather than personal experience. This
definition leaves a lot of room for interpretation, controversy, and contradiction. Critics in the media,
even when they praise individual historical novels in their reviews, somehow manage to turn this
praise into criticism of the genre as a whole. In 1950, author Howard Fast, a historical novelist
himself, wrote: This is an era of many historical novels, few of them good and very few indeed which
have more than a nodding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain is a classic example of a successful historical
fiction novel depicting the life and adventures of youthful boys in the Mississippi River town of St.
Petersburg, Missouri and various locations along the river through Arkansas. Readers of this novel are
confronted with difficult themes such as slavery and revolution in the south before the Civil War. In
chapter 6 of the novel we see Huck s father, Pap, confronted with a finely dressed and educated free
African American. As the man passes Pap states, There, now that s a specimen. They call that a
govment that can t sell a free nigger till he s been in the State six months. Here s a govment that calls
itself a govment, and lets on to be a govment, and thinks it is a govment, and yet s got to set stock still
for six whole months before it can take a hold of a prowling, thieving, infernal, white shirted free
nigger. (Twain 151). This little speech by Pap shows that he s a blatant racist who treats African
Americans as though they are not at all human beings. This novel is full of authentic points of view
from the various characters Huck encounters on his adventures. Twain uses dialog such as this to
educate readers about past conflicts such as the Civil War and slavery. Although highly controversial,
this novel has been used as an educational tool in English literature classrooms for years. The point is
there are numerous historical fiction

Lord Of The Flies Symbolism Essay
Oftentimes authors will use symbolism through the characters in order to represent a larger
encompassing theme. William Golding s book Lord of the Flies is no exception to this pattern as
various characters in the book have such allegorical meanings. In the case of Jack, he could be said to
represent the evilness in humanity, proven by three established concepts in the story: the true nature of
his hunting tendencies, the progression of events that happen in his dancing rituals, and his
interactions towards other symbolic figures. These three reasons, furthered by evidence shown
throughout the novel, fit Jack into a role of symbolic evilness (add something here). The first example
of Jack s evil nature appears very early on in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
... The madness came into his eyes again. I thought I might kill. (Golding, page 51). If Jack were
hunting exclusively for the purpose of food, his inner compulsion to kill as stated by the author would
not exist to begin with. In fact, this statement appears to suggest the opposite that his inner compulsion
to kill is some kind of inner need rather than just an innocent venture to acquire food for the rest of the
boys. Therefore, due to the wording of the author from the quote on page 51 as an addition to the
quote on page 31 (which can be surmised as foreshadowing of evil) it provides the basis of Jack s
hunting proving him a symbol of evil. From page 134 onwards, this relationship is further solidified
by the following few quotes: A little apart from the rest, sunk in deep maternal bliss, lay the largest
sow of the lot. She was black and pink, and the great bladder of her belly was fringed with a row of
piglets... (page 134), She blundered into a tree... could follow her easily by the vivid drops of blood.
...and the hunters followed... excited by the long chase and the dropped blood. (page 135), and Jack
held up the head and jammed the soft throat with the pointed end which pierced through into the
mouth (Golding, page 136 and 137). The first detail on page 134 indicates the pig they have their
sights on is a mother of a few piglets. Quite

Lufthansa Case Study Essay
Lufthansa Case Study
Lufthansa Case Study I. External Analysis: Several large scale, interrelated conditions have affected
the airline industry over the past several years in such a manner that every carrier has had to respond
in order to remain viable and competitive. a. Environmental Analysis: The international war on terror,
with its attendant rising cost of oil has created havoc in a number of ways (Lufthansa Annual Report,
2004). Rising costs have resulted from the increase in fuel prices. Customer check in wait times and
flight time delays have resulted from new regulations designed to ensure passenger and plane safety,

The very size of the company threatens to cause it ongoing trouble, as it must deal with problems
around the globe on an ongoing basis and must remain flexible with a behemoth corporate organism.
III. Strategic Intent and Mission: Lufthansa has restructured its operations to allow it to respond
quickly to problems areas and to control costs across the organization. It has also utilized its market
power to negotiate favorable contracts for products and service, including fuel. The company has also
withdrawn from unprofitable routes and simplified product and service offerings to cut costs. Finally,
it has capitalized on technology, by making flight check ins and bookings available online to make the
customer service appropriate for demands (Moody s Investors Services, 2005). In order to compete in
the future, the company must find new ways to control costs without sacrificing infrastructure or
customer service. IV. Strategy Formulation: The effort to control costs will force the company to focus
on profitable routes and ruthlessly cut service to unprofitable areas going forward. (The company has
shown a willingness to take this sort of approach.) It will also force the company to form strong
alliances with other carriers that essentially protect its own territory by providing alliance coverage of
different markets. Company officials will have to

Community Service Reflection
Community service is a very special and important activity when it comes to wanting to not only
better your community but also connect with the community in a way that is not possible in your
everyday life. For this semester I experimented with a different types of community service, it ranges
all the way from giving blood to helping out my local no kill animal shelter. Doing all of these things
really opened up my eyes, it made me realize how much our community needs our help, and if we do
not put forth the effort nothing is going to change or get better. I am not saying what I did over this
semester changed anything, but I now know all the benefits of community service and hope that one
day in the near future I can contribute in a way that is beneficial to others of my community.
The very first thing I did this semester was helping my local veterans club (Veterans of Foreign Wars)
out during their busy bingo nights on Saturday. The only reason I even heard of this was because of
my mother s boyfriend, he is a Navy veteran and he asked me if I could help them out one night, and
so I did. After the first time, I realized that people take Bingo very serious, people also take their food
very seriously. The way I helped them was I would go in the kitchen and basically do everything, I
would take their orders, cook them their food, put their food on the tray, and then I had to deliver the
food to them because they had trouble walking. That is a lot of work for only two people,

The Aeneid, The Hero Aeneas Essay
In Virgil s Aeneid , the hero Aeneas, a Trojan who traveled to Italy, is faced with a series of
challenges. To overcome these challenges, Aeneas seeks help from the gods as he tries to make his
way back home. In Homer s The Odyssey , the hero Odysseus spends ten years trying to return to his
homeland, Ithaca. Both heroes face similar challenges that they need to overcome in order to
accomplish their goals. The Odyssey has two characters that hinder the hero s journey; Calypso and
Circe. The Aeneid has the character Dido who delays Aeneas journey. This essay will compare both
stories, showing similarities and differences of how the hero s journey was delayed.
The Aeneid is a Latin epic poem, written by Virgil between 29 and 19 B.C. The story is centered on
the main character, Aeneas, a Trojan war survivor and leader of the Trojans after the fall of Troy.
Aeneas and his men sail for Italy, where he is destined to found Rome. While sailing for their
destination, a fierce storm redirects the fleet to the island Carthage; ...a howling wind from the North
Struck against the sail. Waves shot to the start. The oars shattered. The prow swung around, Exposing
the side to the waves, and then A mountain of water broke over the fleet...The Trojans disembark on
the welcome beach, Laying their brine soaked bodies on the sand (Virgil, 4,6 7). Dido, Carthage s
founder, welcomes Aeneas and his men. These women Calypso, Circe, and Dido all have one thing in
common. That is to distract the

Analysis Of Dwelling In Possibilities By Mark Edmundson
Mark Edmundsons Dwelling In Possibilities is propounding his thoughts on the next generation,
chiefly on students that are attending his classes, millennials. After observing a few of his classes
Edmundson has interpreted that the new technology of the time has made student better equipped and
even eager to learn, however after seeing student on YouTube and Email accounts Edmundson begins
to question If his initial thoughts were true, he then begins on his complex trail of thought, taking the
reader with him. To begin his essay Edmundson takes a comparison to his summer life to that of a
college students, and contrasts the two. Amazed with difference he then starts about how people today

This isn t really a main point but it is supporting the issue and is implied through most of the
beginning and in a few other parts of Edmundsons essay. The second idea that leaches from the first
would be how millennials were the first to have been cultivated from a young age to utilize and master
such machinery. This is discreetly said in his essay as Internet technology was on hand for my current
students from about the time they were eight years old and Internet seems to me to have shaped their
generation as much as the multichannel TV, with that critical device, the remote control, shaped the
students who registered for my classes a decade ago. What is the Internet to current students? . Lastly
and the underlying idea of Edmundsons paper would be, that the reliance millennials have on
technology, a problem that no other generation has faced, could be their road to ruin. This is affirmed
multiple times in the essay restated with different words, an example of this would be the title Our
Students Spectacular Hunger for Life Makes Them Radically Vulnerable and a sentence that is stated
in the beginning of the essay These students may go on to do great and good things, but they also
present dangers to themselves and to the common future . With what was just written It is a bit

knowledge on the concepts of this study. Firstly, this section deals with the various traditional travel
time collection techniques in order to provide a comparison with the Bluetooth travel time method.
Secondly, the working concepts of Bluetooth and its components are reviewed in detail. The final
section reviews the application of Bluetooth technology in travel time data collection. It involves the
literature on the sensitivity analysis, veracity of the travel time obtained compared to other sensors and
the cost comparisons. 2.1. Traditional travel time methods Traditional travel time collection techniques
include direct measurement techniques and indirect techniques. Direct measurement include automatic
license plate readers (ALPR), automatic vehicle location (AVL), floating car techniques and data from
global positioning system (GPS) etc., whereas, indirect estimation of travel time is achieved through
various models which vary from the application of simple to complex algorithms for the estimation of
stream travel time. 2.1.1. Probe Vehicles The most common direct measurement of travel time is the
floating car technique, which uses a probe vehicle to travel along the corridor to obtain the travel time
(Robertson 1994). Use of GPS in such probe vehicles records the vehicle trajectory and timestamps

Summary Of Willa Cather s A Wagner Matinee
A Wagner Matinee, by Willa Cather is a powerful short story encompassing many themes, the Most
powerful of which, being one of sacrifice. Our main character Aunt Georgina, like many
Homesteaders in the 19th century worked tirelessly raising a family, facing countless days of
exhausting labor, and braving whatever the elements decided to throw their way. This homesteader
lifestyle and the hardships which accompanied it often meant that anyone who had strong cultural or
musical interests would have to subdue them and replace their favored sonatas and overtures, with
hard labor and mind numbing tasks. As her years of labor wore on, even the most enduring of
Georgina s passion, her love of music, was eventually forced into a sad remission. In choosing to
elope with her young lover and to pursue a homesteader life, Georgina had to sacrifice many of the
pleasures she once enjoyed. Despite the many years she faced toiling away, her passions, though
forced dormant, never ceased to exist.
It is the turn of the 19th Century a time where countless families sought to make their fortunes and
dreams come true by moving west. Our story opens up with Georgina s nephew receiving a letter that
she will be arriving the next day to attend to some family business. Upon reading the worn note in his
hands her nephew instantly pictures his aunt, describing her worn figure as at once pathetic and
grotesque even later comparing her disfigurements to explorers who have left

ABSTRACT
A crane is a type of machine, generally equipped with a hoist, wire ropes or chains, and sheaves, that
can be used both to lift and lower materials and to move them horizontally. It is mainly used for lifting
heavy things and transporting them to other places. It uses one or more simple machines to create
mechanical advantage and thus move loads beyond the normal capability of a man. Cranes are
commonly employed in the transport industry for the loading and unloading of freight, in the
construction industry for the movement of materials and in the manufacturing industry for the
assembling of heavy equipment.
The first construction cranes were invented by the Ancient Greeks and were powered by men or beasts

Port Operations Naval Station Norfolk SWOT Analysis
Naval Station Norfolk is home to over 150 vessels with frequent visits from ships throughout the
world. Port Operations is one of many departments onboard Naval Station Norfolk, and its mission is
to provide service and support to more than 150 ships in the US Atlantic fleet (CNIC, n.d.). Naval
Station Norfolk recently celebrated its 100 year anniversary. Although the base is quite seasoned, its
commitment to excellence has never wavered. In 1908, the first bill sent to Congress for the
construction of Naval Station Norfolk failed to find its way through the halls of Washington
(Kürsener, 2010). In fact, it was not until 1917, after the start of World War II, that a bill was approved
to begin constructing the world s largest naval station (Kürsener, 2010). The ability to provide support
to numerous afloat assets requires the involvement on many activities at the naval station. Naval
Station Norfolk supports more than ten primary mission functions while providing a number of other
services such as a medical and dental treatment facility designed to meet the needs of thousands of
service members in the Hampton Roads area. Additionally, the naval base routinely hosts personnel
for the Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Army, and Air Force

Iago Cheating In Othello
A real relationship will last beyond the rumors. Many would believe the wise person that once said
this was speaking of Othello and Desdemona from William Shakespeare s famous play, Othello. These
two characters were much in love at the beginning of the play, however, Iago, a character seeking
revenge of Othello, twisted the love into hatred as the play moves on. Iago drew the attention of,
allured, and rationalized several reasons why Othello should believe that Desdemona is cheating on
him. All in all, as Iago continues to poison Othello, Othello s mind becomes more and more infected
with lies.
At first, Iago drew Othello s attention towards Cassio, the charming soldier, and Desdemona. He
pointed out that the two had been spending a lot of time together. This is shown in Othello when Iago
says, Ha! I like not that... Nothing, my lord, or if I know not what... Cassio, my lord? No, sure, I
cannot think it that he would steal away so guilty like seeing you coming (3.3.!). Here, Iago purposely
catches the attention of Othello to make him see his wife with his friend, so it will lead Othello to
thinking what they could possibly be doing together. From this, Othello s mind begins to stir and he
begins to realize that his wife and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

undone, but keep t unknown (3.3.!). The woman from Venice are known to having affairs while they
are in other relationships, therefore, there s an even greater chance that Desdemona and Cassio are in a
secret relationship. Hearing this sets Othello over the edge and now all the damage has been done;

Speaking English as a second language in front of others can prove to be anxiety provoking and when
an international student develops this kind of fear they limit their ability to participate in discussions
of class and develop a social relationship. For entry of international student in universities would
normally consist of a TOEFL or IELTS score. However, even when the entry level requirement is
fulfilled by students, they are not acquainted with the terminology that is technical for a subject area
specialist. Difficult time is faced by international students while reading because of lack of familiarity
with English vocabulary, a weak understanding of complex syntax, lack of background knowledge in
a subject and lack of equivalent words between English and their native language (Mertin, 2013).
Criteria of language which is the only thing achieved by the students, studying in English, especially
at the level of master s, can result stressful and onerous. The language entry requirement which is pass

Essay Julius Caesar
Julius Caesar Expository Essay The decisions that one man makes can determine the length of life.
Rome has many people that have the characteristics to be great leaders. Antony is a manipulative man,
Brutus is an honorable man, and Octavius is a quiet strength. All three men would do an excellent job
in leading Rome. Antony is a manipulative man. This is shown throughout the play in several cases,
but most prominently at Caesar s funeral. I thrice presented him a kingly crown which he did thrice
refuse. Was this ambition? (III, ii, 96 96). Antony is very cleaver in the way that he presents his case to
the people. He uses rhetorical questioning to show the people that Caesar was in fact not ambitious.
Antony also played on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, Brutus is also a noble person. Brutus helped in the assassination of Caesar not for
personal gain but for the love of Rome. Not that I loved Caesar lee, but that I loved Rome more. (III,
ii, 21 22). Brutus is able to satisfy that his motive is pure; that his action is without bitterness and that
the assassination of Caesar is for the general good of Rome. Brutus is also rigidly mortal. I did send to
you For certain sums of gold, which you denied me, For I can raise no money by vile means. By
heaven, I had rather coin my heart And drop my blood for drachmas than to wring From the hard
hands of peasants their vile trash By any indirection. I did send To you for gold to pay my legions,
Which you denied me. (IV, iii, 78 86) Brutus is distressed with Cassius because he is led to believe
that Cassius is accepting bribes, and denying Brutus the proper money to pay his troops. Brutus
confronts Cassius and tells him that he was wrong to misuse his power and be so dishonest. Brutus
clearly states that he loved Rome more than he loved Caesar, which in turn keeps his motives pure and
his reasons for helping in the assassination honorable. Above and beyond, throughout the play
Octavius is seen as a silent character, yet shows his strengths in several matters. Octavius is seen to be
ill tempered. Though he is a quiet man if challenged

  • 2. Example Of Meme Research Paper Meme had been born in the 1940 s, her older brothers soon went off to join the U.S. Army to fight in World War II. Meme was born into a large family of poor farmers with seven other siblings. Allard had been crippled from birth and was Meme s closest sibling. It had been a rough couple of years for her starting out, especially since her family had been poor. One of Meme s favorite stories, after all, was about how her first crib was a repurposed chester drawers. How s it going Meme? I asked as I got into the little white car. Her real name was Alma Ford, but everyone called her Meme ever since my mother was little. It s going good, I played Scrabble with Nana earlier! She is also my grandmother and my Meme now must care for her. This wouldn t even be the worst of her troubles, however. Her husband had been abusive and beat her frequently; she still suffered epileptic attacks to this day. I don t like this pop stuff, they just repeat the same lyrics over and over. • 4. National Interest’ Is the Most Important Factor in the... National interest is the most important factor in the formation of any foreign policy. Evaluate this claim . ___________________________________________________________________ It would seem a self evident claim that national interest must play a significant part, if not a central one, in the formation of any state s foreign policy. This claim could be made because it would appear natural that the role of the state, in any situation, is primarily to further the interests of the society and people that it represents. This is the basis of its legitimacy and the reason of its very existence. This paper will explore the extent to which it can be said that states pursue national interests in their foreign policy formation, regardless of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are also many theorists who subscribe to the idea that states are constantly involved in an apparent game of power politics. Power politics is a perspective whereby international politics inevitably entails perceptions of insecurity (...); struggles for power; the use of Machiavellian stratagems; the presence of coercion; attempts to balance power; and the use of war to settle disputes (Vasquez, 1998, p.168). The guiding assumption of this particular theory is that states have little to no choice but to engage in this type of politics, and that failing to do so would have dire consequences in so far that they would be [placing] their fate in the hands of international institutions or the good will of others (Shimko, 2005, p.122). There is thus an underlying principle in this theory that suggests states act not only to further their interests because they are inherently prone to act in this way, but that to not do so would endanger their chances of survival. Strange (1983) is also strongly in favour of the theory that it is essentially interest and power relationships that mediate behaviour in the international system, in her critique of the impact of international regimes (which she believes play a somewhat more negligible role). Unless a truly fundamental ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Nike Vertical Integration Paper Nike uses vertical integration strategy which is a form of a relationship oriented approach in coming up with effective and efficient ways of managing its supply chain. This is achieved through forming alliances and relationships rather than using pricing strategy with an aim of purchasing stuff as cheap as possible (Frisch, 2008). The company has managed to maintain its relationship with contract manufacturers for its foot ware by having different types of suppliers. The strategy is used in pricing its commodities where they have participants at different channel levels so that they could control costs and influence practices of pricing. Backward integration is a theory to achieve vertical integration in the company will gain ownership of their suppliers. • 6. The Colonial Incentives for Independence Essays The Colonial Incentives for Independence July 4th of 1776 is arguably the most significant day in American history. On this day, the thirteen British colonies won their independence from Great Britain, their mother country at the time. The war that allowed the colonies to gain their independence was, of course, the American Revolution. One reason the colonists declaration of independence was understandable was because after an extended period of salutary neglect, the British started imposing laws on the colonies. Another reason was that the British violated colonists rights by implementing the Proclamation of 1763. A third and final reason the colonies were correct in breaking away from Great Britain was that although the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These taxes and laws angered the colonies as they had adapted to isolation and started to become more independent. A second reason was because the colonists rights were violated when the British passed the Proclamation of 1763. This law was passed after the French and Indian War ended in 1763. It restricted colonists to settle west of the Appalachian Mountains. Great Britain passed this law in order to avoid quarrels with the Native Americans, but more importantly to control its colonies. The British wanted to continue its system of mercantilism where the colonies could provide raw materials to Great Britain, which guaranteed the market for exports. The colonists western expansion was being stopped and at the same time laws and taxes were being inflicted on them. The restrictions that the British set for expanding westward and their sudden involvement made colonists feel like their rights were being violated. Finally, the thirteen colonies had the right to secede from Great Britain because of their lack of representation in British Parliament. After the Molasses Act, the Quartering Act, and the Stamp Act were passed, the colonists cried out the well known expression, No taxation without representation. The colonists ... The Dust Bowl left people with nothing at the time. It also killed lots of people around the areas of the Dust Bowl. Most early settlers used the land for livestock grazing until agricultural mechanization combined with high grain prices during World War I. (Dust Bowl) People wanted even more when they should have stopped sooner. By 1941 much of the land was rehabilitated, but the region repeated its mistakes during World War II as farmers again plowed up grassland to plant wheat when grain prices rose. (Dust Bowl) The land was improving a little bit, but the people made the same mistake again. • 8. The Cause Of The Pueblo Revolt Of 1680 The cause of the Pueblo Revolt of 1680 has brought up a substantial amount of controversy between historians. Several historians took the preserved historical documents and gathered information from oral history to try and piece together the reason why the Pueblos revolted to begin with. Some historians point to religion as the sole cause, while others say it required the right leader, and still others point to the racial segregation and mixture of the Pueblos and Spanish blood as the cause of the revolt. While each historian has his own viewpoint, it is important to look into the reasons why each come to their own specific conclusions and determine if their argument is a biased or a balanced perspective. The main things to consider are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Over the course of eighty years however, the Pueblos were able to learn the ways of the Spaniards such as battle tactics, food storage, crop cultivation, and building up immunity to the diseases that nearly eradicated their ancestors. When the drought and famine came during the time leading up to 1680, the Spaniards were likely becoming weaker and the Pueblos, an equally formidable force to their own manpower. Therefore, when 1680 came around, it was prime time for the Pueblos to revolt and gain back the freedom that their ancestors had once enjoyed. But not only that, because the Spaniards could no longer protect the Pueblos from the Apache raids and promise them basic needs like food and shelter, they felt that gaining their own dependence back and standing on their own feet again was an option that was within reach. Garner points out that it was not likely that the Pueblos were planning a revolt for the eighty years that they were in captivity, but it could have very well been in the back of their minds. The year 1680 might have been the most ideal time for them to rise up against the Spaniards. After explaining the main reason for the revolt, Garner goes on to focus on two of the main arguments opposing his own. Unlike other historians, Garner ascertains that religion and the harsh oppression of the Spanish were not sole causes of the revolt. To build his case, throughout his paper, he compares ... There has never been a doubt in my mind: I am destined to be an engineer. I inherited this from my father s family of engineers whose background is in the farming and construction industries. But, my interest in engineering developed further after several trips to visit my mother s family in Honduras. I began thinking about the poverty, crime, and poor infrastructure. This triggered a question and interest in me: How can I help improve Third World countries using engineering advancements? I had never been exposed to the level of poverty and fear of violence that I saw when we made our first trip to San Pedro Sula, Honduras. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Per Adams, we may well be the only people on the planet who tend to believe, without irony, that Thomas Paine was right when he declared that we have it in our power to begin the world over again. In fact we don t have that power in the United States anymore. But from generation to generation, Americans have dreamed of steady personal and national progress. The pursuit of happiness is a phrase that moved from theory to reality in the New World. There was an endless frontier, amazing natural resources, and combined with the American work ethic, it made the pursuit of happiness a reality. It made two acquisitions in 2011, as well. KPMG L.L.P. bought Optimum Solutions, which provides management consulting and implementation services to companies that use Oracle enterprise software. The move has enabled it to serve clients with ERP and HR transformation needs. To boost capacity, the company and its UK affiliate teamed up in 2011 to buy outsourcing advisory firm EquaTerra, adding another revenue stream. The acquisition follows KPMG L.L.P. s 2010 purchase of the supply chain advisory services unit of second tier accountancy Grant Thornton. KPMG has been able to rebound from some past legal troubles. The drawn out drama began in 2005 when the firm admitted to unlawful conduct in an investigation by the Department of Justice. Former partners of the firm created abusive tax shelters for more than 600 wealthy customers between 1996 and 2002; the unpaid taxes cost the Treasury more than $100 million. KPMG avoided criminal prosecution by agreeing to pay $456 million in fines, restitution, and penalties. (A criminal indictment led to the collapse of KPMG s former rival Arthur Andersen.) • 11. Honey Bees Pollinators Honey bees are pollinators that play a crucial role in our agriculture industry. Many people do not realize how important a small insect can be. Bees pollinate many different crops from almonds to coffee and account for the pollination of $15 billion worth of crops in the United States per year. From April 2016 to April 2017 Beekeepers in the U.S. lost 33% of their honey bees ( U.S. Beekeepers 2017). The continued loss of honey bees has been due to several factors such as habitat loss, disease, climate change, and in big part due to Neonicotinoid insecticide exposure. Having healthy bee populations is critical since they are responsible for one out of every three bites of food we eat. Not only are pollinators important for crops but they also have a role in native plant populations and guaranteeing seed creation. Although the statistics above are from the United States it is important to remember that insect pollinators are crucial to agriculture worldwide, and the main insect pollinators are bees ( Pollination 2017). Brief 1: Federal Government The use of Neonicotinoid insecticides is contributing to the decline of bee populations which are critical to pollinating our crops. Evidence of Neonicotinoids effect on bees can be found in the peer review report Chronic exposure to neonicotinoids reduces honey bee health near corn crops (Tsvetkov, et al. 2017). If nothing is implemented to fix this it will end up having a substantial effect on our agricultural industry, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Prior to the release of True Grit (1969), John Wayne had played starring roles in countless other Western films, including Stagecoach (1939) and The Searchers (1956). There were many causes of casualties but these were the most common. WWI was a very new type of warfare so it had new, deadly weaponry. Some people agree this was the bloodiest war in history. The question that makes many wonder is, what was the main weapon that really caused all this bloodshed? During World War One there were many new infantry weapons developed for this new war. This was the very first war fought that did not require gunpowder for the weapons of war. This only made all weapons ten times more deadly. Assault rifles were now bolt action, meaning that after every shot you would have to pull back the bolt. This was a new mechanism added to weapons that allowed for a faster firing rate. Sidearms were semi auto which meant that you could shoot as fast as you could pull the trigger. The traditional definition of the historical fiction genre is fiction set in the past where the author is writing from research rather than personal experience. This definition leaves a lot of room for interpretation, controversy, and contradiction. Critics in the media, even when they praise individual historical novels in their reviews, somehow manage to turn this praise into criticism of the genre as a whole. In chapter 6 of the novel we see Huck s father, Pap, confronted with a finely dressed and educated free African American. As the man passes Pap states, There, now that s a specimen. • 24. Lord Of The Flies Symbolism Essay Oftentimes authors will use symbolism through the characters in order to represent a larger encompassing theme. William Golding s book Lord of the Flies is no exception to this pattern as various characters in the book have such allegorical meanings. In the case of Jack, he could be said to represent the evilness in humanity, proven by three established concepts in the story: the true nature of his hunting tendencies, the progression of events that happen in his dancing rituals, and his interactions towards other symbolic figures. These three reasons, furthered by evidence shown throughout the novel, fit Jack into a role of symbolic evilness (add something here). The first example of Jack s evil nature appears very early on in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... ... The madness came into his eyes again. I thought I might kill. (Golding, page 51). If Jack were hunting exclusively for the purpose of food, his inner compulsion to kill as stated by the author would not exist to begin with. In fact, this statement appears to suggest the opposite that his inner compulsion to kill is some kind of inner need rather than just an innocent venture to acquire food for the rest of the boys. Therefore, due to the wording of the author from the quote on page 51 as an addition to the quote on page 31 (which can be surmised as foreshadowing of evil) it provides the basis of Jack s hunting proving him a symbol of evil. From page 134 onwards, this relationship is further solidified by the following few quotes: A little apart from the rest, sunk in deep maternal bliss, lay the largest sow of the lot. She was black and pink, and the great bladder of her belly was fringed with a row of piglets... Our main character Aunt Georgina, like many Homesteaders in the 19th century worked tirelessly raising a family, facing countless days of exhausting labor, and braving whatever the elements decided to throw their way. This homesteader lifestyle and the hardships which accompanied it often meant that anyone who had strong cultural or musical interests would have to subdue them and replace their favored sonatas and overtures, with hard labor and mind numbing tasks. As her years of labor wore on, even the most enduring of Georgina s passion, her love of music, was eventually forced into a sad remission. In choosing to elope with her young lover and to pursue a homesteader life, Georgina had to sacrifice many of the pleasures she once enjoyed. Scott Excelsior College Port Operations Naval Station Norfolk SWOT Analysis Naval Station Norfolk is home to over 150 vessels with frequent visits from ships throughout the world. Port Operations is one of many departments onboard Naval Station Norfolk, and its mission is to provide service and support to more than 150 ships in the US Atlantic fleet (CNIC, n.d.). Naval Station Norfolk recently celebrated its 100 year anniversary. Although the base is quite seasoned, its commitment to excellence has never wavered. In 1908, the first bill sent to Congress for the construction of Naval Station Norfolk failed to find its way through the halls of Washington (Kürsener, 2010). In fact, it was not until 1917, after the start of World War II, that a bill was approved to begin constructing the world s largest naval station (Kürsener, 2010). The ability to provide support to numerous afloat assets requires the involvement on many activities at the naval station. Naval Station Norfolk supports more than ten primary mission functions while providing a number of other services such as a medical and dental treatment facility designed to meet the needs of thousands of service members in the Hampton Roads area. Additionally, the naval base routinely hosts personnel for the Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Army, and Air Force ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Iago Cheating In Othello A real relationship will last beyond the rumors. Many would believe the wise person that once said this was speaking of Othello and Desdemona from William Shakespeare s famous play, Othello. These two characters were much in love at the beginning of the play, however, Iago, a character seeking revenge of Othello, twisted the love into hatred as the play moves on. Iago drew the attention of, allured, and rationalized several reasons why Othello should believe that Desdemona is cheating on him. All in all, as Iago continues to poison Othello, Othello s mind becomes more and more infected with lies. At first, Iago drew Othello s attention towards Cassio, the charming soldier, and Desdemona. He pointed out that the two had been spending a lot of time together. This is shown in Othello when Iago says, Ha! I like not that... Nothing, my lord, or if I know not what... Cassio, my lord? No, sure, I cannot think it that he would steal away so guilty like seeing you coming (3.3.!). Here, Iago purposely catches the attention of Othello to make him see his wife with his friend, so it will lead Othello to thinking what they could possibly be doing together. From this, Othello s mind begins to stir and he begins to realize that his wife and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 37. Essay Julius Caesar Julius Caesar Expository Essay The decisions that one man makes can determine the length of life. Rome has many people that have the characteristics to be great leaders. Antony is a manipulative man, Brutus is an honorable man, and Octavius is a quiet strength. All three men would do an excellent job in leading Rome. Antony is a manipulative man. This is shown throughout the play in several cases, but most prominently at Caesar s funeral. I thrice presented him a kingly crown which he did thrice refuse. Was this ambition? (III, ii, 96 96). Antony is very cleaver in the way that he presents his case to the people. He uses rhetorical questioning to show the people that Caesar was in fact not ambitious. Antony also played on ... Not that I loved Caesar lee, but that I loved Rome more. (III, ii, 21 22). Brutus is able to satisfy that his motive is pure; that his action is without bitterness and that the assassination of Caesar is for the general good of Rome. Brutus is also rigidly mortal. I did send to you For certain sums of gold, which you denied me, For I can raise no money by vile means. By heaven, I had rather coin my heart And drop my blood for drachmas than to wring From the hard hands of peasants their vile trash By any indirection. I did send To you for gold to pay my legions, Which you denied me. (IV, iii, 78 86) Brutus is distressed with Cassius because he is led to believe that Cassius is accepting bribes, and denying Brutus the proper money to pay his troops. Brutus confronts Cassius and tells him that he was wrong to misuse his power and be so dishonest. Brutus clearly states that he loved Rome more than he loved Caesar, which in turn keeps his motives pure and his reasons for helping in the assassination honorable. Above and beyond, throughout the play Octavius is seen as a silent character, yet shows his strengths in several matters. Octavius is seen to be ill tempered. Though he is a quiet man if challenged ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
