Labor Unions Essay
Labor Unions
Throughout American history, labor unions have served to facilitate mediation between workers and
employers. Workers seek to negotiate with employers for more control over their labor and its fruits. A
labor union can best be defined as an organization that exists for the purpose of representing its
members to their employers regarding wages and terms and conditions of employment (Hunter).
Labor unions principal objectives are to increase wages, shorten work days, achieve greater benefits,
and improve working conditions. Despite these goals, the early years of union formation were
characterized by difficulties (Hunter).
The beginnings of labor unions travel as far back as the colonial era when craft workers ... Show more

To help bring about congressional change, the National Labor Union was created in 1866 to pressure
Congress to make labor law reforms (Library of Congress). It was composed of national associations
of unions with trade printers, machinists, stone cutters and others (American Federationist).
But the National Labor Union did not remain long in existence and was forced to terminate in 1873
due to an economic depression. Depressions often prolonged the goals of labor unions because the
desperation for work due to high unemployment rates rendered strikes ineffective. The National Labor
Union was not without some success however. It heightened public awareness of labor issues and
increased public support for labor reform in the 1870s and 1880s (Library of Congress).
Followed directly on the heels of the National Labor Union was the Knights of Labor, founded in
1869, and the Federation of Organized Trades and Labor Unions in 1881. The Knights was an all
embracing organization whose membership included the skilled or unskilled, black or white, male or
female (Miller). But inclusion of unskilled

Competition And Sustainability For Reducing Production Costs
Competition and sustainability in the third party IT contracting industry in the United States are driven
by economic factors such as outsourcing, globalization, mergers, and acquisitions (Rose Anderssen,
Baldwin, Ridgway, 2011). In turn, these factors shape and transform third party IT contracting
companies (Jancikova Brychta, 2009). IT outsourcing (ITO) is a business solution for reducing
production costs (Desar McGee, 2010). This approach is used frequently in the operation of call
centers to provide customer service. For example, in Germany, a labor regulatory framework is used
to reduce labor costs in the operation of registered companies (Weinkopf, 2009). Work is outsourced
to less developed countries with less costly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Representatives of most IT companies, particularly call centers, use cloud computing software to
allow connectivity and sharing of resources in company data centers (Beverakis, Dick, Cecez
Kecmanovic, 2009). Cloud computing software is an advanced tool used in outsourcing, particularly
for communications, because of the capacity to collect and access massive amounts of data. This
software is commonly operated in a data center, which allows access to associated data in a variety of
ways (Anthes, 2010). Because most call centers operate using cloud computing, third party IT
contracting security is a primary concern (Anthes, 2010; Gatewood, 2009).
During the 1980s and 90s, outsourcing organizational activities became the standard for many
organizations (Kahai et al., 2011). Outsourcing, as a part of an organization s overall strategic plan,
has been effective in helping achieve organizational goals and objectives (Kahai et al., 2011).
Currently, many organizations incorporate outsourcing into the strategic plan, and this trend will
probably increase in the future (Heikkila Heikkila, 2010). Although outsourcing will not solve all of
the problems inherent in attempting to achieve competitive advantages and organizational cost
reductions in an organization, the practice is increasingly part of an organization s overall
comprehensive strategy in the business world (Andreff, 2009). While

The East Feudalism
The Mystical Spirits of the East explore the practices and beliefs of some the oldest disciplines in the
world. Hinduism, Buddhism are examined in colorful instances where nature and humans juxtapose
each to draw a major point into the eyes of the viewers, the close dependence humans have with
nature. Further, important yet obscure topics like death, suffering and disparity which are often
trivialized in eastern culture are embraced and dealt with in eastern beliefs. In the film, the impact
religion has on society is a point of concern just like the influence society and the changing world
have on religion and beliefs.
In the film, Hinduism is highlighted with bright orange clothing and the belief that life and death

The Eagles As A Backup Band For Linda Ronstadt
Better Let Somebody Love you
The Eagles started out as any other band would by strumming their guitars and beating the drums in
their garage of their parents house. Later, they began their real career as a backup band for Linda
Ronstadt. The Eagles began as an all American Rock band in Los Angeles in 1971 by band members
Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Bernie Leadon, and Randy Meisner. The Eagles, being number one in the
world in the 70 s, have been given awards for their creativity and meaning in their music. With five
number one singles, six Grammy Awards, five American Music Awards, and six number one albums
(Graff), the Eagles were one of the most successful bands of the 1970s. Their music changed history
in their time. Many of their songs on their number one albums got into the Rolling Stones Top 500
Songs of All Time list (Graff). This song Desperado means a lot to me because it played on the album
that I used to sing along in the car with my mom and sister when I was a small child. It acts as part of
a symbol in the childhood that I so dearly cherish, and long to return to. The song is played on the
album Their Greatest Hits and has a more country beat to it, which I enjoyed more, than their more
rock and roll take on their music. When I sing along to this song, or any song on this album, I am
taken back to the days where all the windows were down in my mom s white minivan, blowing my
blonde wispy curls in my face, and the heat of the warm sunshine on my skin. I think

James Peltz Analysis
Journalist James Peltz investigates and discusses capitalization of the native Mexican tradition of Dia
de los Muertos in the United States. Dia de los Muertos has become capitalized as a theme to
Halloween. Peltz points out with statistical and quoted evidence of how Dia de los Muertos is being
marketed along with the purchases made by consumers before and during Halloween. I agree that the
values, customs, and themes of Dia de los Muertos are being commercialized and profited through
cultural appropriation and the lack of knowledge upon the non Latin citizens. The concept of cultural
appropriation of Dia de los Muertos is how consumers purchase Dia de los Muertos themed products
such as necklaces, earrings, bed coverings, costumes, masks,

Safety Culture Is The Common Beliefs And Ways
Culture is the common beliefs and ways of doing things shared between those who learned their ways
in the same environment. Safety culture is, however much of the same with a developed attitude
towards safety. Safety culture can be strong, where people within an organization report incidents that
occur or even when they had the opportunity to occur. On the other hand safety culture can also be
poor where incidents are hidden or swept under the carpet and no action can be taken to decrease the
possibility of it from happening again. Tools have been developed to assess the safety culture in many
different organizations, usually those that have a high risk. Rules and regulations are typically
implemented following incidents resulting in fatalities. Nuclear, medical and aviation are some of the
main industries that have begun assessing safety culture within their organizations and implementing
SMS systems to help distinguish situations that could have potentially caused an incident.
Over the years safety has been taken more and more seriously and the safety culture throughout many
organizations in general has been greatly improved upon. This has been mainly due to mishaps and
incidents in the past that have led to fatalities. Following these incidents have been regulations and
measures to ensure that the same thing is less likely to occur or possibly even impossible to occur
again. Since so many regulations are now in place incidents are few and far between, which is a good

Potlucks Case Study
RECOMMENDATIONS Taking the overall insights, this section provides recommendations from the
staff interviews on how to integrate food into SAGE s mission and values. It is important to note that
the recommendations provided in this section are not absolute, instead they are general ideas with the
intention of sparking the conversation around improving the Food Services Program. These
recommendations focus on SAGE s core values but also keep financial limitations and the food
expectation dilemma in mind. The issues of food literacy, building support groups, and intercultural
connection are to be addressed through the following methods:
Integrating small food events into programs
Providing cooking classes and food workshops

One option could be to keep a donation jar near the food to offset some of the money spent. The
second option would be to provide the space for hosting mini snack potlucks after programs instead.
The programs could encourage people to bring snacks to share with the group. These mini potlucks
could incorporate certain themes such as cultural food and diversity as well as healthy food. With
seniors, there could be sensitive dietary restrictions such as ones related to diabetes, lactose, and
gluten, to name a few. Hence, it is also important to keep in mind that these potlucks would need to be
regulated to ensure that all allergies and restrictions are made aware of to the group. The staff could
then decide whether certain food items should not be allowed at the potlucks or if warning labels
should be used for certain foods. This second option would not only be more financially affordable for
SAGE s programs but also, addresses the issues of the food expectation dilemma by eliminating the
constant expectation of SAGE programs providing food. It also encourages intercultural connection
through diverse foods that people can bring from their own cultures with the potential to raise
awareness about

Kalamazoo Water Reclamation Plant
Wastewater treatment systems are very important to providing clean, drinkable water to its
surrounding societies. These systems also help in the removal of contaminants in wastewater from
household sewage, runoff, domestic, commercial and institutional units. Processes include physical,
chemical and biological manipulation of contaminants to neutralize their effects on the human body
for consumption. There are three main types of treatment, primary, secondary and tertiary, all of which
have separate units and processes that flow in an organized manner to ultimately end up with recycled
potable water.
First in primary treatment the sewage is temporarily held in a quiescent basin where heavy solids
settle to the bottom while other contaminants such as oil, grease and lighter solids float to the top.
Commonly used procedures involve bar screens with washer compactors that remove a majority of
non fine solid material waste. Other airs is added to settle solids for grit removal. Fine screens as also
used to capture the finer waste material that flows through the primary larger hole bar screens. They
can often have two different sizes of bar screens that help in removing as much sold material waste
before moving onto secondary treatment. The finer screens are used to capture plastics that come into
the system.
Secondary treatment removes dissolved material and biological matter that is suspended between the
top and bottom of the tank. Secondary treatment involves the use of

With your anxiety subsiding, you can finally sink your teeth into some good food. And I will stress

bruschetta to start your evening. Now, I m not the biggest fan of raw tomato, and these little toasted
baguette slices are piled high with it. However, I really enjoyed the tart balsamic vinegar, little tangy
swirl of goat cheese, and yes, even the tomato mound. If this restaurant could get me to enjoy one of
the few ingredients I didn t like, I knew what was to come would be a delight.
Next up is your choice of soup or salad. I can t comment much on the state of their salad mastery with
my fiancée and me both opting to indulge in one of the soup options. Conversely, the minestrone soup

Bourdieu s Theory Of Cultural Development
Pierre Bourdieu s cultural reproduction has transformed as well as influenced the literature field,
following Alice Sullivan s statement on the successful results of Bourdieu s theory: Bourdieu s theory
of cultural reproduction has been highly influential, and has generated a great deal of literature, both
theoretical and empirical (144). According to Bourdieu s theory, based on his book Distinction: A
Social Critique of the Judgment of Taste, makes the declaration that higher levels of education will
result in perceiving and comprehending the world around them much differently than a person with a
much lower educational level. Bourdieu s theory attributes this claim to the terms: cultural capital,
cultural arbitrary and habitus, which are developed through education and rationalize how the higher
social classes are made up of these different forms of capital. Also, this critical analysis of these
different forms of capitals has been one of Bourdieu s major contributions to the study of educational
processes: The concept of cultural capital is one of Pierre Bourdieu s major contributions to the study
and critical analysis of educational processes and the ways in which they are associated with socially
unequal outcomes (Moore 445). Given the success of Bourdieu s theory in both literature and
education, Bourdieu s theory of cultural reproduction can be found in many genres of literature
including the Latin American literature piece of Doña Bárbara. The novel presents

What Is Inheritance Tax Fq
Inheritance Tax FAQ s
When a loved one passes away and leaves us a portion of their estate, there is often an inheritance tax
attached to this estate, which will need to be paid. Here, we ll examine exactly what that tax is, why it
exists and if it applies to you, alongside many other common questions.
What is inheritance tax? The clue is in the title, as it is quite literally a tax on your inheritance. Or,
more accurately, on the estate of the person who has died. Basically, when you die, the government
will assess how much your estate is worth and will take what it feels it is owed from this estate. Your
estate will be made up of everything from the actual money in your bank, to any property or
businesses you own, vehicles, investments and even life insurance payouts.
When do I have to pay inheritance tax? You will have to pay inheritance tax on any estate worth
£325,000 or above. This is known as the inheritance tax threshold. Above that amount, anything you
leave behind is taxed. If the estate is worth less than this, no inheritance tax will be due. You will also
be able to avoid inheritance tax if everything in the estate is being left to a spouse, civil partner or
charity. If you re married or in a civil partnership and your estate is worth less than £325,000, you can
also transfer any unused threshold to your partner when you die, meaning their threshold can be as
much as double this amount (£650,000).

Cub A Political Leader Of Cuba
A revolution is a struggle to the death between the future and the past. Fidel Castro has had a
tremendous impact on Cuba. Castro was a political leader of Cuba (1959 2008) who transformed his
country into the first communist state in the Western Hemisphere. Castro became a symbol of
communist revolution in Latin America.
Before Fidel Castro took rein Cuba was the island of sin, a society consumed by the illnesses,
gambling, the Mafia, and prostitution. In 1969 Cuba changed drastically, but still was mainly known
for dance, music, prostitutes, cigars, abortions, resort life, and pornographic movies. Gambling in
Cuba meant casino gambling. The reason Cuba attracted tourists is because of its gambling. After

the ratio of sex workers in 1950s Havana, with a population of 1 million people, was approximately
double the amount of the one in New York City, with 8 million people.
Fidel Alejandro Castro Ruz was born on August 13, 1926, near Birán, in Cuba s eastern Oriente
Province. He was the third of six children, including his two brothers, Raúl and Ramón; and three
sisters, Angela, Emma and Agustina. Castro grew up in wealthy circumstances even though most of
Cuba was in poverty. From an early age, Castro showed he was intellectually gifted, but he was also
something of a troublemaker and was often more interested in sports than studies. He attended
Colegio Dolores in Santiago de Cuba and then El Colegio de Belén in Havana. After his graduation in
late 1945, however, Castro entered law school at the University of Havana and became immersed in
the climate of Cuban nationalism, anti imperialism and socialism, focusing his energies more
exclusively on politics.
By 1947, Castro had become increasingly passionate about social justice and he traveled to the
Dominican Republic to join an expedition attempting the overthrow of the country s dictator, Rafael
Trujillo. Even though the attempt failed he traveled to Columbia and was involved in an attempt to
overthrow the government. In 1947, Castro also joined the Partido Ortodoxo, an anticommunist

Controversy Surrounding The New Immigration Reform Essay
There has been a lot of controversy surrounding the new immigration reform that was introduced by
President Barack Obama. The issue has been split between politicians because one side wants illegal
immigrants to face deportation while others want to make drastic changes to improve the broken
system, so President Obama decided to take his own legal action on the issue. Three critical elements
of the President s executive actions are: cracking down on illegal immigration at the border, deporting
felons not families, and accountability by passing criminal background checks and paying their fair
share of taxes (The White House). Every year hundreds of thousands of immigrants come into the
United States illegally. These immigrants come to America for a variety of reasons; whether it s
hoping for a chance at a better life or escaping violence and poverty in their home country. America s
immigration system has been broken for decades. Too many employers cheat the system by hiring
undocumented workers who don t have proper work authorization. There are millions of people living
in the shadows that are afraid of being caught by authorities and sent back. These ongoing problems
are neither good for the economy or the country. Obama has argued that this has been an ongoing
problem for decades and that its time to fix this broken system. The President s actions will streamline
legal immigration to boost our economy and will promote naturalization for those who qualify (The

Dada and its impact on Contemporary Art According to the Oxford Dictionary of art, Dada was A
movement in European art (with manifestations also in New York), c.1915 c.1922, characterized by a
spirit of rebellious revolt against traditional values. It arose from a mood of cynicism engendered by
the First World War, to which some artists reacted with, cynicism, sarcasm and nihilism. Gathering in

was formed, its members, its major centres, and major work and how it led to the birth of the
Surrealism, which ultimately had a positive direct effect on art of the 21st century and how it is

Plasmid Lab Report
Introduction In this investigation pUC19 plasmids were used as the vector due to its small size of
2686bp, high uptake efficiency by the host and fast replication time. Important features of this plasmid
include the origin of replication and multiple cloning sites (MCS). The origin of replication allows the
plasmid to replicate inside the host bacterium. The MCS is located within the lacZ gene and contains
unique sites for the Xbal EcoRI restirction enzymes to cut and produce sticky ends for the CIH 1 gene
to bind to. Furthermore, the pUC19 plasmid also contains an ampiccilin resistance gene so only
transforemed E.coli are able to remain viable when spread on the agar plates that also has the addition
of ampiccilin. The lacZ gene encodes the β galactosidase enzyme which aids in indentifying the
recombinant E.coli from the non recombinant cells (Coventry University 2016). The addition of 5
bromo 4 chloro 3 indoyl β thiogalactoside (X gal) in the agar mix acts as an artifical substrate for the
enzyme so it produces blue E.coli colonies when hydrolised by the β galactosidase meaning those
specific colonies do not contain the plasmid with the CIH 1 insert (non recombinant E.coli) (Coventry
University 2016). Isopropyl β D thiogalactoside (IPTG) an artifical transcription inducer of the lacZ
gene is also added into the agar mix, binding to the repressor gene and inactivating it. Therefore when
the CIH 1 gene is incorporated within the plasmid MCS and inserted into the E.coli

Pros And Cons Of Stricter Gun Control
Guns are designed to kill. They have no other function (Bowman and Newton). Today, there is a major
debate whether or not guns should be legalized. Gun control is a firearm regulation which sets laws or
policies that regulate the manufacture, sale, or possession of firearms. The Second Amendment was
ratified in on December 15, 1791 that allowed people the right to bear arms, but many people disagree
with that and to express their opinions, both sides protest. Guns have a long history in the United
States. They were intentionally made for the advancement of military purposes. An example of what
guns are used for currently would be for hunting or self defense ( Gun Control ). Stricter gun control
laws should be enacted like because they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Stricter gun control laws won t prevent those determined to die, but it will delay their situation to give
them more time to get help. If there were more gun control laws enacted, there would be lower gun
related death rates. The enactment of stricter gun control laws will not only cause fewer gun deaths but
also save money.
Pursuing this further, the enactment of stricter gun control laws saves money. Ann Parrish also
concludes how much money is spent on the consequence of guns;
It has been calculated that the United States spends one hundred billion dollars each year to prevent or
investigate gun violence or to treat its results. These costs include the expensive trauma centers in
hospital emergency rooms; bullet proof clothing for police, public officials, and others at risk;
elaborate security systems at airports, public buildings, schools and private homes; and increased taxes
and insurance costs for everyone. (Parrish).
The mass amount of money the U.S. wastes on the consequences of guns could instead be used for
greater purposes like research for Cancer. The outcome of guns is shown by Andrew Lisa in the
article, Here s How Much Gun Violence is Costing You a Year , Miller s research concludes gun
violence costs about $8.6 billion in direct, or out of pocket, expenses. This is more than just the costs
associated with transporting gunshot victims to hospitals and treating them; it also includes long term

Persuasive Essay On The Process Of Bathing Your Cat
While cats become aggressive when wet, general grooming is required to help keep your cat s skin
and fur in healthy peak condition because regular grooming keeps their coats clean and skin healthy.
many kittens are not able to keep themselves completely clean despite their natural grooming instincts
and their coats become greasy .Overweight cats have a harder time reaching the fur on their back, so it
is often matted and dry, which can lead to infections.
The first step to bathing your cat is to have the area where the bathing is to take place in the best order
it can be. This can mean just tidying up or moving unnecessary objects out of the way. The area where
you decide to bathe your cat should be taken into thought. Bathtubs work the best, but if you do not
own one your kitchen or bathroom sink can also work. The water you use to bathe your cat should be
at least three inches in height, and luke warm so not to scold the cat, but not cold because then the
animal might go into shock. When choosing your soap you need to be careful of what you use and to
only use shampoo formulated for the use of cats or non toxic dish soaps like Dawn. You should keep a
towel at hand at all times while bathing your cat. When rinsing your cat you can use a large bowl or a
cup to pour clean water over the animal.
Once you have your bathing area set up, the next step is the actual bathing of the cat, the best way not
to get scratched when giving your cat a bath is to grab it from behind by the

When asked who broke the color line in baseball, most people would think of Jackie Robinson. An
advocate for civil rights as well as an outstanding baseball player, he became a significant figure in
American history, and is widely recognized as the first black baseball player in the Major Leagues.
However, a lesser known player named Moses Fleetwood Walker was a player in the Major Leagues
six decades before Robinson. Although faced with similar trials in each of their integration into the
white dominated sport, their attitudes were far from similar. Walker wasn t quite as likable as
Robinson and was not as exceptional in his playing. Walker s actions after baseball, including the

the time and Canada had been invaded on multiple occasions by the United States. The war began
because of conflict between Great Britain and the United States when Great Britain adopted economic
sanctions that restricted American trade. Britain also infuriated the Americans when the HMS
Geurriere attacked an American vessel looking for British born sailors on May 1st 1811 to force them
into the Royal Navy. The Americans were already outraged about the sanctions and the attack simply
brought it to the next level. On June 18, 1812, United States declared war on ... Show more content on

The Rebellions of 1837 and the act of Union played a crucial role in the merge, the merge occurred to
create a single parliament with equal representatives from both Upper and Lower Canada. The War
not only unified the populace but it also developed political conservatism. In Upper Canada, multiple
conservative families bonded together to create the Family Concept also know as Tories . This concept
was against any type of liberal reforms, they wanted to keep the loyalist traditions. While the Family
Concept was in Upper Canada, a group formed in Lower Canada. The group in Lower Canada were
known as the Chateau Clique , the members were mainly British merchants who consolidated power
after the War ended. This group attempted to assimilate the French Canadians by creating British law
and changing the Roman Catholic churches to Anglican churches. These two groups dominated for
approximately 25 years after the war until the Act of Union was singed in 1841. There goal was to
keep British values in Canada and they were successful because today, Canada is still a member of the

Globalizatons and Cherokees
Globalization has caused extreme change on the Cherokee ways of life, institutions, customs and
traditions. The Cherokee people are incorporating more and more of their past traditions in to their
institutions way of life in a means of trying to preserve them in this every changing world. Once a
culture of people that held high their beliefs and way of life was nearly an extinct culture after the
European, and colonization forced these people out of their land. It is important to see look at the
affects that globalization has on the Cherokee people because looking at this we can see how
globalization affects human dignity both in a positive manner and in a negative manner.
The education institutions that are on the boundary give the Cherokee children the right to self
fulfillment; it does this by providing them with the right education to go to college or so on if they
wish. The school has incorporated ideas from all over to make sure that their children have the best
possible education that they can get to survive and thrive in the modern world today. Our culture has
played a huge impact on how they view technology. Our culture is constantly obsessing over the
newest and greatest technology, because of this there are tons of jobs in this field. The Cherokee
schools teach children as early as elementary school how to work with different technology to give
them a head start in the culture that surrounds them so that they can keep at a solid pace with us.

Load Optimum Mpls Routing With Routers And Links
Load Optimum MPLS Routing with Routers and Links (N+M)
ABSTRACT:
MPLS is now a days the most important thing in the intra domain routing (i.e. routing in own domain
or network). The main advantage of MPLS is the flexibility it offers towards traffic engineering ex. To
support higher demand without overloading any links. Most of the major vendors are now offering
MPLS routers and many ISPs are deploying MPLS in their IP backbone as well as in ATMs and frame
relays. Because of this increase in transition to MPLS we are required to increase our knowledge
towards the importance and limitations of MPLS.
Mitra and Ramakrishna from GLOBECOM 99 has showed optimum routing solutions can be found to
achieve the goals for diverse set of Traffic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It can provide applications like Traffic Engineering, Quality of Service and Virtual Private Networks.
The packets in MPLS are directed through the network based on an assigned label. The label is
associated through the network with an assigned path which allows a higher level of control on the
packets than in packet switched networks. MPLS routing allow differing QoS characteristics and
priorities to be assigned to particular data flows. Traffic Engineering explains the optimization of
fundamental abilities of the network [2]. Traffic Engineering is the process of controlling how traffic
flows through ones network so as to optimize resource utilization and network performance [3]. It is
performed by detouring the traffic to paths that are lightly loaded in order to balance the load amongst
the paths as per the various calculated metrics. These can be divided as two types. They are state
dependent and time dependent. Both of them are focused to balance the traffic so that they can avoid
the congestion. State dependent policies change the traffic in short time scale depending on different
metrics calculated both online and offline of the present traffic and the time dependent policies
engineer it based on long time scaling. Both these methods aim to balance the traffic so as to avoid the
congestion.
The problem that we face while using previous MPLS routing solutions is that

These findings are evident in the studies conducted by Hembree and Dessart (1986), Rich (1990),
Ruthven (1990), Alexander (1993), Pavia (1996), Porzio (1997), and Abalajon (2001). A few studies,
however, specifically that of 2 Army (1991) and Tolias (1993) found that the use of this
instructional tool did not make any significant difference in the mathematical performance of the
experimental and control groups. So far, only the study of Giamati (1991) indicated that the control
group performed better than the experimental group. Reviews of related literature as indicated in Day
(1996), Green (1999), and Kissane (1999) identify the many advantages of using graphing calculators.
Similarly, related studies such as those of Hansen (1986), Estes (1990), Mclendon (1991), Chandler

that students who used graphing calculators in their mathematics classes had better achievement and
more favorable attitude toward the subject than those who did not use calculators. Previous researches
revealed that graphing calculators enhance the students mathematics achievement by minimizing the

Active Learning Is The Key For Understanding, Not Passive...
Active Learning is the Key to Understanding, Not Passive Learning
According to Paulo Freire, a Brazilian educator and philosopher, the current education lacks teacher
student communication. In his article he reveals that, Instead of communicating, the teacher issues
communiques and makes deposits which the students patiently perceive, memorize, and repeat. This is
the banking concept of education, in which the scope of action allowed to the students extends only as
far as receiving, filing, and storing the deposits.
Basically, Freire s argument is that education should involve student teacher knowledge exchange,
rather than the teacher being the one teaching all the time. As someone who is an educator, Freire
understands that knowledge is a result of active learning rather than passive learning. He likens the
current education to a banking system whereby the teacher just deposits information into the students
empty heads. Freire complains that this type of education does not give students the understanding
they need to connect the material with reality. In fact, he stresses out that students just memorize what
is said by the teacher without understanding the concepts. Due to that, he further describes how the
concepts taught in class seem to be disconnected from reality since the students cannot relate how
education affects their day to day lives.
Although I agree with Freire that education should not be like a banking system, I cannot accept his
overriding assumption

Use Of Imagery In Elizabeth Bowen s The Demon Lover
The Demon Lover by Elizabeth Bowen is a short story that takes place during World War II in
London, England. The main character, Mrs. Drover travels by herself to the bombed city to return to
her boarded up house. While gathering belongings, Mrs. Drover notices particular and out of place
that begins to haunt her. The reader witnesses her mental state deteriorate as she begins dreaming of
safety. The use of vivid imagery and flashbacks in The Demon Lover by Elizabeth Bowen develops
the mysterious and paranoid mood throughout the piece of literature.
During World War II, it was common for people living in the city of London to flee into the country to
avoid the bombings. Mrs. Drover is an example of this, and travels to London by herself ... Show

been recently placed on the table, as other objects wore a film of another kind; and the only ventilation
being the chimney, (Bowen 1084). All the objects in the house were covered in dust, yet this letter had
none on it. She begins to wonder how did the letter appeared on the table; the caretaker is away and
the letter should have been forwarded to her residence in the country. Mrs. Drover reads the letter in
her old bedroom, which she discovers the letter was from her fiance that was presumed dead during
the first World War. In terror she remembers what he left her, that cut of the button on her palm of
hand was, principally, what she was to carry away, (Bowen 1085). Her fiance was aggressive and
physically hurt Mrs. Drover to leave a memory of him.. In panic, Mrs. Drover rushes to finish her
tasks in the house as she wonders how he knows she is there and when will he come. These thoughts
are running through her head, as well as the reader s head. Mrs. Drover becomes haunted with
memories she has of him. The letter is signed with by K so the reader is unaware of who the fiance is
and his past; however, based upon Mrs. Drover s reaction, the reader can conclude that this man is
someone to be feared. More and more panic sets in as time passes, Mrs. Drover not knowing the set
time they are to meet. The rain and the damaged, dark house aids her paranoia as she begins to believe
she is not alone, and is concerned when hearing noises. Mrs. Drover wants to escape back to the

Figurative Language In Jeremy
Award winning book Jeremy; is a delightfully enchanting story about the survival of a baby
kookaburra, whom is cared for after falling from his nest. Evidence of precise vocabulary is used in
describing a nest high in the big palm tree in our garden (Faille, 2014 pg. 1), creating depth and
believability in the existence of the setting (Tunnel, 2008). Using figurative language, Jeremy is given
human like actions through personification, whom stays up late to watch television (Faille, 2014), a
feat unusual for a wild bird. Furthermore personification is again addressed; through an emotional act
of a simple goodbye kiss between Jeremy and the human girl (Faille, 2014), outlining the care two
characters now share with each other (Tunnell, 2008).

Frank Gaffney Hero
There are many heroic people in this world that are of inspiration to others. Some are famous and well
known, while some are unknown and even forgotten. An example of an unfortunately forgotten hero is
World War I veteran Frank Gaffney; the second bravest man in the United States military. Frank
Gaffney earned his heroism for his quick response when faced with danger during World War I. Even
though Gaffney became a forgotten hero of war, his remarkable accomplishments played a huge role
in the development of our free country.
Frank Gaffney was born in Buffalo, New York in 1883 and later enlisted in the army at age thirty one.
Gaffney was a fearless and brave man and, therefore, earned the name The Human Hurricane from his
commander. As a courageous Private First Class and rifleman for the 108th infantry 27th division,

killed the German crew by using just his hand gun. In doing so, he took over the German machine gun
post all alone. Having possession of the gun, Gaffney used the gun against his enemies. At the same
time, he bombed several dugouts and killed four more Germans. He held his position until
reinforcement came. Gaffney s actions led to the capture of eighty German soldiers once backup

from the war with a bad injury and had to have his arm amputated. But he was rewarded a medal of

Watching Milo Murphy s Law
This week I began to watch Milo Murphy s law. As a true Phineas and Ferb fan, I really enjoyed it,
since there are many jokes and easter eggs hidden in Milo Murphy that date back to Phineas and Ferb.
But, just three episodes in, I began to devise a theory. Maybe it s too early in the show to tell, but I
have a pretty bold theory, and I m prepared to back it up.
My theory: Melissa Chase is Candace s Sister
At first glance, this theory seems impossible. So rather than try to explain my theory all at once, I ll
explain the answers to different arguments against this theory.
Agrument 0: How do we even know the two shows are in the same universe?
Well on Huffington Post, Dan Povenmire, one of the creators of Phineas and Ferb, has been ... Show

Flynn is her maiden name. She was married to someone with the last name Chase, although she did
not change her last name (which is not uncommon). During her marriage, she had three children,
Candace, Mellissa, and Phineas. Once she got divorced, she remarried to Lawrence Fletcher, who was
the father of Ferb. The reason we never see Mellissa with her family, is that Linda and her first
husband have worked out and agreement to allow Mellissa to visit with her father during the summer.
But if this is true, how come Mellissa s last name is Chase, and not Flynn? I think she goes by Chase,
because she doesn t want to be immediately associated with Phineas and Ferb. We ve already seen
throughout the Phineas and Ferb series that Phineas and Ferb are known all throughout town as the
coolest kids ever. I think Melissa uses her former last name as a way to not be immediately associated
as just Phineas and Ferb s older sister.
Argument 2: Why would there be any reason to assume that the two are sisters?
Well, if you look at their pictures, you ll see what I mean.
candace_promotional_image_3melissa
First of all, they have a very similar red shade of hair. While this doesn t seem to be very compelling
evidence, have you ever noticed that both Phineas and his mom are readheads too?

Furthermore, have you ever noticed how few redheads are in the Milo Murphy, and Phineas and Ferb

The Role Of Suffering In The Little Mermaid
Hans Christian Andersen s story The Little Mermaid addresses many dark ideas that Disney s film The
Little Mermaid avoids. The avoidance of dark topics by Disney can be attributed to Disney targeting a
different audience as well as Disney wanting to keep a happily ever after on the story of Ariel. The
role of suffering in Andersen s stories is attributed to the desire of young girls for something in which
they should not or cannot have. This desire propels the characters in Andersen s stories to make
decisions that lead to them losing their own identity as well as their families. In Anderson s story The
Little Mermaid sees a Prince on her fifteenth birthday and she ends up saving his life when his ship
sinks (Andersen, 220 222). After ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fear mongering is a tactic used to scare people away from what they do not understand whether it be
sexuality, religion or ideology. Fear mongering is intentionally used to arouse public fear about a topic
people do not understand. The age group targeted for this fairy tale would be pre teens and teens. The
fairy tale would start out with a group of rabbits talking to each other around a campfire and this group
of rabbits would be the main population in the story. Then, one rabbit by the name of Mr. Scared
Bunny would describe a giant rabbit to the other rabbits and the other rabbits do not know anything
about the giant rabbit, thus anything that the storytelling rabbit says about the giant rabbit is the only
information this group of rabbits has on the giant rabbit. The giant rabbit would be the protagonist in
the story because he is being targeted by Mr. Scared Bunny s incorrect facts and the giant rabbit is
really just the Easter bunny trying to overcome stereotypes generated by rabbits that do not know him.
During the fairy tale the rabbit will describe the giant rabbit as being dangerous to society and a
potential threat to their lives, if allowed to live peacefully and undisturbed amongst the normal rabbits.
However, the rabbit sharing details about the giant rabbit has no idea what the giant rabbit is actually
like. The result of the rabbit s tale of the giant rabbit thus, has created fearmongering amongst the
population of rabbits and they fear for their lives of a rabbit that they don t even know. The giant
rabbit ends up ostracized and sad because he has no friends and the other rabbits will not approach
him. At the end of the fairy tale the giant rabbit turns out to be the Easter bunny and the other rabbits
had no reason to fear. The fearmongering though, created an environment in which someone who was
different was ostracized from society and made to feel like he was a

6.2 Bargaining Power of Buyers
Buyers in telecom industry can be classified in two categories depending on the type of consumers,
Individual and Enterprise Customers. Enterprise customers are organizations like banks, IT
companies. There are multiple players in the telecom industry like Airtel with variable product
offerings and prices which gives buyers many options to select operators and thus increase the
bargaining leverage.
Different aspects of bargaining powers of buyers which affect the profitability of Airtel are:
i. Switching Costs: The cost of a new connection is very low and sometimes subscribers obtain new
connections for free. The introduction of Mobile Number portability (MNP) has increased the buyer
power of switching to other service providers very easily. Airtel faces a higher bargaining power of
buyer due to low switching costs.
ii. Buyer Competition: Majority of the revenues for Airtel is generated by enterprise customers who
show that there is higher buying

The Interstate Bank Of Bastrop s Judgment Lien
Question II
As a court judge, I would rule that the Interstate Bank of Bastrop s judgment lien has first priority
because the judgment lien was recorded prior to Red River s mortgage lien. In general, the priority of
a judgment lien is typically determined by the recording dates, which concludes which lien gets paid
first. For this reason, Red River Thrift and Loan Co. and Interstate Bank of Bastrop have sensible
rights to complain for priority in order to enforce Phil Dunfee s debt. In other words, if Red River
received first priority and the foreclosure sale continued, then Interstate Bank of Bastrop would never
get paid. As a result, Interstate would consider this unreasonable, especially since the judgment lien
was filed before Red River had filed their note and mortgage with Dunfee. In brief, Interstate Bank of
Bastrop has priority over Red River because of the series in which the liens and mortgages were
recorded. Red River Thrift and Loan Co. may argue that they have priority because first and second
mortgages overrule judgment liens, unless the judgment lien is unpaid tax debt. Judgment liens are
usually considered as junior mortgages compared to the first and second mortgage. Red River s
foreclosure would wipe out the Interstate Bank of Bastrop s judgment lien against Phil Dunfee, and
would clear any judgments attached to the title of the property. In other words, when a mortgagor
forecloses, any judgment lien that was recorded prior to the mortgage would be

Malcolm Gladwell s Theory Of The Tipping Point
Typically ranging from 100 to 400 square feet, tiny houses could easily be mistaken for a small shed
or plentiful sized walk in closet (Corson). Tiny houses are an alternative to modern housing that can
be taken on the go, similar to the transportable capabilities of an RV or mobile home. In order to
understand why tiny houses boomed in popularity since 2014, Malcolm Gladwell s theory of the
Tipping Point can be used to analyze how the movement sparked. The rise in interest of the tiny house
is accredited to the context in which it develops, the salesmen and connectors that spread the tiny
house movement, and the many aspects that allow tiny houses to stick with their audience.
The tiny house movement spreads partially due to various environmental ... Show more content on

One of the three, known as the Connector, acts as a living wire who connects themselves to many
different worlds and subcultures and niches (Gladwell). In the tiny house epidemic, many connectors
in the form of bigger companies help project the tiny house lifestyle. Two different television
networks, HGTV and FYI, produced popular shows that informed the public what tiny houses looked
like and what accommodations they came with, of those being Tiny House Big Living, Tiny House
Hunters, Tiny House Nation, and Tiny House World. Each of the shows first aired in late 2014, except
for Tiny House World which came in late 2015 (Tiny House, Big living, Tiny House Hunters, Tiny
House Nation, Tiny House World). By producing a tv show about tiny houses, whether the show
follows contractors, people who build the house themselves, or real estate agents that sell to a
prospective buyers, HGTV and FYI easily allow every household with a television set to explore a
growing movement that encourages finding freedom by thinking big on living small (St. Louis
Sanchez). In addition to bringing the tiny movement into the house of their audience, the show
producers also aim to be salesmen. According to Malcolm Gladwell, the salesmen work to convince
others that they need something they never knew about before (Gladwell). These shows make money
off of every episode they put out, and they do so in hopes that the same audience will return with more
numbers in order to watch their show. HGTV and FYI produce these shows that highlight the price,
process, and advantages of being apart of the movement. Similar tactics are shown outside of the
weekly television shows in community events, such as the Tiny House Jamboree. The jamboree is an
annual event in which prospective buyers, current owners, and certain builders can explore and

  • 2. Labor Unions Essay Labor Unions Throughout American history, labor unions have served to facilitate mediation between workers and employers. Workers seek to negotiate with employers for more control over their labor and its fruits. A labor union can best be defined as an organization that exists for the purpose of representing its members to their employers regarding wages and terms and conditions of employment (Hunter). Labor unions principal objectives are to increase wages, shorten work days, achieve greater benefits, and improve working conditions. Despite these goals, the early years of union formation were characterized by difficulties (Hunter). The beginnings of labor unions travel as far back as the colonial era when craft workers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To help bring about congressional change, the National Labor Union was created in 1866 to pressure Congress to make labor law reforms (Library of Congress). It was composed of national associations of unions with trade printers, machinists, stone cutters and others (American Federationist). But the National Labor Union did not remain long in existence and was forced to terminate in 1873 due to an economic depression. Depressions often prolonged the goals of labor unions because the desperation for work due to high unemployment rates rendered strikes ineffective. The National Labor Union was not without some success however. It heightened public awareness of labor issues and increased public support for labor reform in the 1870s and 1880s (Library of Congress). Followed directly on the heels of the National Labor Union was the Knights of Labor, founded in 1869, and the Federation of Organized Trades and Labor Unions in 1881. The Knights was an all embracing organization whose membership included the skilled or unskilled, black or white, male or female (Miller). But inclusion of unskilled ... • 3. Competition And Sustainability For Reducing Production Costs Competition and sustainability in the third party IT contracting industry in the United States are driven by economic factors such as outsourcing, globalization, mergers, and acquisitions (Rose Anderssen, Baldwin, Ridgway, 2011). In turn, these factors shape and transform third party IT contracting companies (Jancikova Brychta, 2009). IT outsourcing (ITO) is a business solution for reducing production costs (Desar McGee, 2010). This approach is used frequently in the operation of call centers to provide customer service. For example, in Germany, a labor regulatory framework is used to reduce labor costs in the operation of registered companies (Weinkopf, 2009). Work is outsourced to less developed countries with less costly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Representatives of most IT companies, particularly call centers, use cloud computing software to allow connectivity and sharing of resources in company data centers (Beverakis, Dick, Cecez Kecmanovic, 2009). Cloud computing software is an advanced tool used in outsourcing, particularly for communications, because of the capacity to collect and access massive amounts of data. This software is commonly operated in a data center, which allows access to associated data in a variety of ways (Anthes, 2010). Because most call centers operate using cloud computing, third party IT contracting security is a primary concern (Anthes, 2010; Gatewood, 2009). During the 1980s and 90s, outsourcing organizational activities became the standard for many organizations (Kahai et al., 2011). Outsourcing, as a part of an organization s overall strategic plan, has been effective in helping achieve organizational goals and objectives (Kahai et al., 2011). Currently, many organizations incorporate outsourcing into the strategic plan, and this trend will probably increase in the future (Heikkila Heikkila, 2010). Although outsourcing will not solve all of the problems inherent in attempting to achieve competitive advantages and organizational cost reductions in an organization, the practice is increasingly part of an organization s overall comprehensive strategy in the business world (Andreff, 2009). • 4. The East Feudalism The Mystical Spirits of the East explore the practices and beliefs of some the oldest disciplines in the world. Hinduism, Buddhism are examined in colorful instances where nature and humans juxtapose each to draw a major point into the eyes of the viewers, the close dependence humans have with nature. Further, important yet obscure topics like death, suffering and disparity which are often trivialized in eastern culture are embraced and dealt with in eastern beliefs. In the film, the impact religion has on society is a point of concern just like the influence society and the changing world have on religion and beliefs. • 5. The Eagles As A Backup Band For Linda Ronstadt Better Let Somebody Love you The Eagles started out as any other band would by strumming their guitars and beating the drums in their garage of their parents house. Later, they began their real career as a backup band for Linda Ronstadt. The Eagles began as an all American Rock band in Los Angeles in 1971 by band members Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Bernie Leadon, and Randy Meisner. The Eagles, being number one in the world in the 70 s, have been given awards for their creativity and meaning in their music. With five number one singles, six Grammy Awards, five American Music Awards, and six number one albums (Graff), the Eagles were one of the most successful bands of the 1970s. Their music changed history in their time. Many of their songs on their number one albums got into the Rolling Stones Top 500 Songs of All Time list (Graff). This song Desperado means a lot to me because it played on the album that I used to sing along in the car with my mom and sister when I was a small child. It acts as part of a symbol in the childhood that I so dearly cherish, and long to return to. The song is played on the album Their Greatest Hits and has a more country beat to it, which I enjoyed more, than their more rock and roll take on their music. When I sing along to this song, or any song on this album, I am taken back to the days where all the windows were down in my mom s white minivan, blowing my blonde wispy curls in my face, and the heat of the warm sunshine on my skin. I think ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. James Peltz Analysis Journalist James Peltz investigates and discusses capitalization of the native Mexican tradition of Dia de los Muertos in the United States. Dia de los Muertos has become capitalized as a theme to Halloween. Peltz points out with statistical and quoted evidence of how Dia de los Muertos is being marketed along with the purchases made by consumers before and during Halloween. I agree that the values, customs, and themes of Dia de los Muertos are being commercialized and profited through cultural appropriation and the lack of knowledge upon the non Latin citizens. The concept of cultural appropriation of Dia de los Muertos is how consumers purchase Dia de los Muertos themed products such as necklaces, earrings, bed coverings, costumes, masks, ... • 7. Safety Culture Is The Common Beliefs And Ways Culture is the common beliefs and ways of doing things shared between those who learned their ways in the same environment. Safety culture is, however much of the same with a developed attitude towards safety. Safety culture can be strong, where people within an organization report incidents that occur or even when they had the opportunity to occur. On the other hand safety culture can also be poor where incidents are hidden or swept under the carpet and no action can be taken to decrease the possibility of it from happening again. Tools have been developed to assess the safety culture in many different organizations, usually those that have a high risk. Rules and regulations are typically implemented following incidents resulting in fatalities. Nuclear, medical and aviation are some of the main industries that have begun assessing safety culture within their organizations and implementing SMS systems to help distinguish situations that could have potentially caused an incident. Over the years safety has been taken more and more seriously and the safety culture throughout many organizations in general has been greatly improved upon. This has been mainly due to mishaps and incidents in the past that have led to fatalities. Following these incidents have been regulations and measures to ensure that the same thing is less likely to occur or possibly even impossible to occur again. Since so many regulations are now in place incidents are few and far between, which is a good ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Potlucks Case Study RECOMMENDATIONS Taking the overall insights, this section provides recommendations from the staff interviews on how to integrate food into SAGE s mission and values. It is important to note that the recommendations provided in this section are not absolute, instead they are general ideas with the intention of sparking the conversation around improving the Food Services Program. These recommendations focus on SAGE s core values but also keep financial limitations and the food expectation dilemma in mind. The issues of food literacy, building support groups, and intercultural connection are to be addressed through the following methods: Integrating small food events into programs Providing cooking classes and food workshops Creating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One option could be to keep a donation jar near the food to offset some of the money spent. The second option would be to provide the space for hosting mini snack potlucks after programs instead. The programs could encourage people to bring snacks to share with the group. These mini potlucks could incorporate certain themes such as cultural food and diversity as well as healthy food. With seniors, there could be sensitive dietary restrictions such as ones related to diabetes, lactose, and gluten, to name a few. Hence, it is also important to keep in mind that these potlucks would need to be regulated to ensure that all allergies and restrictions are made aware of to the group. The staff could then decide whether certain food items should not be allowed at the potlucks or if warning labels should be used for certain foods. This second option would not only be more financially affordable for SAGE s programs but also, addresses the issues of the food expectation dilemma by eliminating the constant expectation of SAGE programs providing food. It also encourages intercultural connection through diverse foods that people can bring from their own cultures with the potential to raise awareness about ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Kalamazoo Water Reclamation Plant Wastewater treatment systems are very important to providing clean, drinkable water to its surrounding societies. These systems also help in the removal of contaminants in wastewater from household sewage, runoff, domestic, commercial and institutional units. Processes include physical, chemical and biological manipulation of contaminants to neutralize their effects on the human body for consumption. There are three main types of treatment, primary, secondary and tertiary, all of which have separate units and processes that flow in an organized manner to ultimately end up with recycled potable water. First in primary treatment the sewage is temporarily held in a quiescent basin where heavy solids settle to the bottom while other contaminants such as oil, grease and lighter solids float to the top. Commonly used procedures involve bar screens with washer compactors that remove a majority of non fine solid material waste. Other airs is added to settle solids for grit removal. Fine screens as also used to capture the finer waste material that flows through the primary larger hole bar screens. They can often have two different sizes of bar screens that help in removing as much sold material waste before moving onto secondary treatment. The finer screens are used to capture plastics that come into the system. Secondary treatment removes dissolved material and biological matter that is suspended between the top and bottom of the tank. Secondary treatment involves the use of ... Bourdieu s Theory Of Cultural Development Pierre Bourdieu s cultural reproduction has transformed as well as influenced the literature field, following Alice Sullivan s statement on the successful results of Bourdieu s theory: Bourdieu s theory of cultural reproduction has been highly influential, and has generated a great deal of literature, both theoretical and empirical (144). According to Bourdieu s theory, based on his book Distinction: A Social Critique of the Judgment of Taste, makes the declaration that higher levels of education will result in perceiving and comprehending the world around them much differently than a person with a much lower educational level. Bourdieu s theory attributes this claim to the terms: cultural capital, cultural arbitrary and habitus, which are developed through education and rationalize how the higher social classes are made up of these different forms of capital. Also, this critical analysis of these different forms of capitals has been one of Bourdieu s major contributions to the study of educational processes: The concept of cultural capital is one of Pierre Bourdieu s major contributions to the study and critical analysis of educational processes and the ways in which they are associated with socially unequal outcomes (Moore 445). Given the success of Bourdieu s theory in both literature and education, Bourdieu s theory of cultural reproduction can be found in many genres of literature including the Latin American literature piece of Doña Bárbara. • 12. What Is Inheritance Tax Fq Inheritance Tax FAQ s When a loved one passes away and leaves us a portion of their estate, there is often an inheritance tax attached to this estate, which will need to be paid. Here, we ll examine exactly what that tax is, why it exists and if it applies to you, alongside many other common questions. What is inheritance tax? The clue is in the title, as it is quite literally a tax on your inheritance. Or, more accurately, on the estate of the person who has died. Basically, when you die, the government will assess how much your estate is worth and will take what it feels it is owed from this estate. Your estate will be made up of everything from the actual money in your bank, to any property or businesses you own, vehicles, investments and even life insurance payouts. When do I have to pay inheritance tax? You will have to pay inheritance tax on any estate worth £325,000 or above. This is known as the inheritance tax threshold. Above that amount, anything you leave behind is taxed. If the estate is worth less than this, no inheritance tax will be due. You will also be able to avoid inheritance tax if everything in the estate is being left to a spouse, civil partner or charity. If you re married or in a civil partnership and your estate is worth less than £325,000, you can also transfer any unused threshold to your partner when you die, meaning their threshold can be as much as double this amount (£650,000). • 14. Controversy Surrounding The New Immigration Reform Essay There has been a lot of controversy surrounding the new immigration reform that was introduced by President Barack Obama. The issue has been split between politicians because one side wants illegal immigrants to face deportation while others want to make drastic changes to improve the broken system, so President Obama decided to take his own legal action on the issue. Three critical elements of the President s executive actions are: cracking down on illegal immigration at the border, deporting felons not families, and accountability by passing criminal background checks and paying their fair share of taxes (The White House). Every year hundreds of thousands of immigrants come into the United States illegally. These immigrants come to America for a variety of reasons; whether it s hoping for a chance at a better life or escaping violence and poverty in their home country. America s immigration system has been broken for decades. Too many employers cheat the system by hiring undocumented workers who don t have proper work authorization. There are millions of people living in the shadows that are afraid of being caught by authorities and sent back. These ongoing problems are neither good for the economy or the country. Obama has argued that this has been an ongoing problem for decades and that its time to fix this broken system. • 18. Plasmid Lab Report Introduction In this investigation pUC19 plasmids were used as the vector due to its small size of 2686bp, high uptake efficiency by the host and fast replication time. Important features of this plasmid include the origin of replication and multiple cloning sites (MCS). The origin of replication allows the plasmid to replicate inside the host bacterium. The MCS is located within the lacZ gene and contains unique sites for the Xbal EcoRI restirction enzymes to cut and produce sticky ends for the CIH 1 gene to bind to. Furthermore, the pUC19 plasmid also contains an ampiccilin resistance gene so only transforemed E.coli are able to remain viable when spread on the agar plates that also has the addition of ampiccilin. The lacZ gene encodes the β galactosidase enzyme which aids in indentifying the recombinant E.coli from the non recombinant cells (Coventry University 2016). The addition of 5 bromo 4 chloro 3 indoyl β thiogalactoside (X gal) in the agar mix acts as an artifical substrate for the enzyme so it produces blue E.coli colonies when hydrolised by the β galactosidase meaning those specific colonies do not contain the plasmid with the CIH 1 insert (non recombinant E.coli) (Coventry University 2016). Isopropyl β D thiogalactoside (IPTG) an artifical transcription inducer of the lacZ gene is also added into the agar mix, binding to the repressor gene and inactivating it. Therefore when the CIH 1 gene is incorporated within the plasmid MCS and inserted into the E.coli ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. Persuasive Essay On The Process Of Bathing Your Cat While cats become aggressive when wet, general grooming is required to help keep your cat s skin and fur in healthy peak condition because regular grooming keeps their coats clean and skin healthy. many kittens are not able to keep themselves completely clean despite their natural grooming instincts and their coats become greasy .Overweight cats have a harder time reaching the fur on their back, so it is often matted and dry, which can lead to infections. The first step to bathing your cat is to have the area where the bathing is to take place in the best order it can be. This can mean just tidying up or moving unnecessary objects out of the way. The area where you decide to bathe your cat should be taken into thought. Bathtubs work the best, but if you do not own one your kitchen or bathroom sink can also work. The water you use to bathe your cat should be at least three inches in height, and luke warm so not to scold the cat, but not cold because then the animal might go into shock. When choosing your soap you need to be careful of what you use and to only use shampoo formulated for the use of cats or non toxic dish soaps like Dawn. You should keep a towel at hand at all times while bathing your cat. When rinsing your cat you can use a large bowl or a cup to pour clean water over the animal. MPLS routing allow differing QoS characteristics and priorities to be assigned to particular data flows. Traffic Engineering explains the optimization of fundamental abilities of the network [2]. Traffic Engineering is the process of controlling how traffic flows through ones network so as to optimize resource utilization and network performance [3]. It is performed by detouring the traffic to paths that are lightly loaded in order to balance the load amongst the paths as per the various calculated metrics. These can be divided as two types. They are state dependent and time dependent. Both of them are focused to balance the traffic so that they can avoid the congestion. State dependent policies change the traffic in short time scale depending on different metrics calculated both online and offline of the present traffic and the time dependent policies engineer it based on long time scaling. Both these methods aim to balance the traffic so as to avoid the congestion. The problem that we face while using previous MPLS routing solutions is that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Active Learning is the Key to Understanding, Not Passive Learning According to Paulo Freire, a Brazilian educator and philosopher, the current education lacks teacher student communication. In his article he reveals that, Instead of communicating, the teacher issues communiques and makes deposits which the students patiently perceive, memorize, and repeat. This is the banking concept of education, in which the scope of action allowed to the students extends only as far as receiving, filing, and storing the deposits. Basically, Freire s argument is that education should involve student teacher knowledge exchange, rather than the teacher being the one teaching all the time. As someone who is an educator, Freire understands that knowledge is a result of active learning rather than passive learning. He likens the current education to a banking system whereby the teacher just deposits information into the students empty heads. Freire complains that this type of education does not give students the understanding they need to connect the material with reality. In fact, he stresses out that students just memorize what is said by the teacher without understanding the concepts. Due to that, he further describes how the concepts taught in class seem to be disconnected from reality since the students cannot relate how education affects their day to day lives. Although I agree with Freire that education should not be like a banking system, I cannot accept his overriding assumption ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Well on Huffington Post, Dan Povenmire, one of the creators of Phineas and Ferb, has been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Flynn is her maiden name. She was married to someone with the last name Chase, although she did not change her last name (which is not uncommon). During her marriage, she had three children, Candace, Mellissa, and Phineas. Once she got divorced, she remarried to Lawrence Fletcher, who was the father of Ferb. The reason we never see Mellissa with her family, is that Linda and her first husband have worked out and agreement to allow Mellissa to visit with her father during the summer. But if this is true, how come Mellissa s last name is Chase, and not Flynn? I think she goes by Chase, because she doesn t want to be immediately associated with Phineas and Ferb. We ve already seen throughout the Phineas and Ferb series that Phineas and Ferb are known all throughout town as the coolest kids ever. I think Melissa uses her former last name as a way to not be immediately associated as just Phineas and Ferb s older sister. Argument 2: Why would there be any reason to assume that the two are sisters? Well, if you look at their pictures, you ll see what I mean. candace_promotional_image_3melissa First of all, they have a very similar red shade of hair. While this doesn t seem to be very compelling evidence, have you ever noticed that both Phineas and his mom are readheads too? phineas_image_proposition_5download Furthermore, have you ever noticed how few redheads are in the Milo Murphy, and Phineas and Ferb series?

  • 33. The Role Of Suffering In The Little Mermaid Hans Christian Andersen s story The Little Mermaid addresses many dark ideas that Disney s film The Little Mermaid avoids. The avoidance of dark topics by Disney can be attributed to Disney targeting a different audience as well as Disney wanting to keep a happily ever after on the story of Ariel. The role of suffering in Andersen s stories is attributed to the desire of young girls for something in which they should not or cannot have. This desire propels the characters in Andersen s stories to make decisions that lead to them losing their own identity as well as their families. In Anderson s story The Little Mermaid sees a Prince on her fifteenth birthday and she ends up saving his life when his ship sinks (Andersen, 220 222). After ... Fear mongering is intentionally used to arouse public fear about a topic people do not understand. The age group targeted for this fairy tale would be pre teens and teens. The fairy tale would start out with a group of rabbits talking to each other around a campfire and this group of rabbits would be the main population in the story. Then, one rabbit by the name of Mr. Scared Bunny would describe a giant rabbit to the other rabbits and the other rabbits do not know anything about the giant rabbit, thus anything that the storytelling rabbit says about the giant rabbit is the only information this group of rabbits has on the giant rabbit. The giant rabbit would be the protagonist in the story because he is being targeted by Mr. Scared Bunny s incorrect facts and the giant rabbit is really just the Easter bunny trying to overcome stereotypes generated by rabbits that do not know him. During the fairy tale the rabbit will describe the giant rabbit as being dangerous to society and a potential threat to their lives, if allowed to live peacefully and undisturbed amongst the normal rabbits. However, the rabbit sharing details about the giant rabbit has no idea what the giant rabbit is actually like. The result of the rabbit s tale of the giant rabbit thus, has created fearmongering amongst the population of rabbits and they fear for their lives of a rabbit that they don t even know. The giant rabbit ends up ostracized and sad because he has no friends and the other rabbits will not approach him. At the end of the fairy tale the giant rabbit turns out to be the Easter bunny and the other rabbits had no reason to fear. The fearmongering though, created an environment in which someone who was different was ostracized from society and made to feel like he was a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. The Interstate Bank Of Bastrop s Judgment Lien Question II As a court judge, I would rule that the Interstate Bank of Bastrop s judgment lien has first priority because the judgment lien was recorded prior to Red River s mortgage lien. In general, the priority of a judgment lien is typically determined by the recording dates, which concludes which lien gets paid first. For this reason, Red River Thrift and Loan Co. and Interstate Bank of Bastrop have sensible rights to complain for priority in order to enforce Phil Dunfee s debt. In other words, if Red River received first priority and the foreclosure sale continued, then Interstate Bank of Bastrop would never get paid. As a result, Interstate would consider this unreasonable, especially since the judgment lien was filed before Red River had filed their note and mortgage with Dunfee. In brief, Interstate Bank of Bastrop has priority over Red River because of the series in which the liens and mortgages were recorded. Red River Thrift and Loan Co. may argue that they have priority because first and second mortgages overrule judgment liens, unless the judgment lien is unpaid tax debt. Judgment liens are usually considered as junior mortgages compared to the first and second mortgage. Red River s foreclosure would wipe out the Interstate Bank of Bastrop s judgment lien against Phil Dunfee, and would clear any judgments attached to the title of the property. In other words, when a mortgagor forecloses, any judgment lien that was recorded prior to the mortgage would be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Malcolm Gladwell s Theory Of The Tipping Point Typically ranging from 100 to 400 square feet, tiny houses could easily be mistaken for a small shed or plentiful sized walk in closet (Corson). Tiny houses are an alternative to modern housing that can be taken on the go, similar to the transportable capabilities of an RV or mobile home. In order to understand why tiny houses boomed in popularity since 2014, Malcolm Gladwell s theory of the Tipping Point can be used to analyze how the movement sparked. The rise in interest of the tiny house is accredited to the context in which it develops, the salesmen and connectors that spread the tiny house movement, and the many aspects that allow tiny houses to stick with their audience. The tiny house movement spreads partially due to various environmental ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the three, known as the Connector, acts as a living wire who connects themselves to many different worlds and subcultures and niches (Gladwell). In the tiny house epidemic, many connectors in the form of bigger companies help project the tiny house lifestyle. Two different television networks, HGTV and FYI, produced popular shows that informed the public what tiny houses looked like and what accommodations they came with, of those being Tiny House Big Living, Tiny House Hunters, Tiny House Nation, and Tiny House World. Each of the shows first aired in late 2014, except for Tiny House World which came in late 2015 (Tiny House, Big living, Tiny House Hunters, Tiny House Nation, Tiny House World). By producing a tv show about tiny houses, whether the show follows contractors, people who build the house themselves, or real estate agents that sell to a prospective buyers, HGTV and FYI easily allow every household with a television set to explore a growing movement that encourages finding freedom by thinking big on living small (St. Louis Sanchez). In addition to bringing the tiny movement into the house of their audience, the show producers also aim to be salesmen. According to Malcolm Gladwell, the salesmen work to convince others that they need something they never knew about before (Gladwell). These shows make money off of every episode they put out, and they do so in hopes that the same audience will return with more numbers in order to watch their show. HGTV and FYI produce these shows that highlight the price, process, and advantages of being apart of the movement. Similar tactics are shown outside of the weekly television shows in community events, such as the Tiny House Jamboree.
