Attitudes And Attitudes Of Older Adults Residing Within A...
Design The research question is focused on emotions and attitudes of older adults residing within a
CCRC, therefore a qualitative descriptive design was chosen for this study. Qualitative descriptive
research supports the researcher remaining close to the words people use to describe their event or
situation (Sandelowski, 2000). Focus groups will used to answer the question, what are the emotions
and attitudes that prevent residents in a CCRC from accepting the guidance of professional staff in
regards to transitioning to a higher level of care or receiving assistance in their home? Focus groups
by design support hearing from a group of people with a specific focus or interest, specific
characteristics, will provide data of a qualitative nature to support answering the question of interest
(Krueger,1988). The participants will state what the attitudes and thoughts are when facing the
possibility of accepting assistance in their apartment or transitioning to a higher level of care such as
AL or NC, and what the barriers are through open ended questions. Sample The population of interest
is older adults residing in a CCRC therefore purposive sampling will be used. Purposive sampling
ensures that certain types of individuals or persons displaying certain attributes are included in the
study (as cited by Shippee, 2009, pg 420) This study is interested in learning about the attitudes of
residents who are living independently currently but are resisting transiting to a higher

Essay On Spinal Cord Injury
Spinal cord compression/injury
Definition
Spinal cord injuries are fractures or dislocations to the vertebrae. Spinal cord injuries can be classified
as either complete or incomplete. Complete means that spinal cord can no longer send messages
below the injured area resulting in paralysis. With incomplete spinal cord injuries there is still some
movement and sensation below the injured area. Spinal cord injuries can be caused for many reason
including but not limited to: hyperflexion, hyperextension, axial loading or vertical compression,
excessive rotation, or penetrating trauma. Spinal cord injuries are commonly caused by vehicle
accidents, violence, falls, and sports injuries.
Physical Assessment/Clinical Manifestations
Loss of movement, loss of sensation, including the ability to feel heat, cold and touch, loss of bowel or
bladder control, exaggerated reflex activities or spasms, changes in sexual function, sexual sensitivity
and fertility, pain or an intense stinging sensation caused by damage to the nerve fibers in spinal cord,

Ronald Reagan Obstacles
There are many people in this world that are influential. These people fight for what they believe in,
they go after what they want, and go past obstacles that they face. An individual that shows these traits
would be the 40th president of the United States of America, Ronald Reagan. Ronald Reagan is
influential because of his beliefs, he fought for what he thought could be a better America, he also
went after what he wanted which was to become 40th president of the United States, he also went past
obstacles in his life one obstacle that he faced was winning his 2nd term Ronald Reagan, our 40th

of Americans in Iran swept the Republican ticket into office . This shows me that since he was swept
into the office, he was probably nervous, he came over that and made a great 40th president. Another
example is that on history.com it says The couple divorced . This shows me that since he got in a
divorce, it was a very hard time for him, but he got remarried and had 2 more kids. Finally, on
whitehouse.gov it says On January 20, 1981, Reagan took office. Only 69 days later he was shot by a
would be assassin, but quickly recovered and returned to duty. This shows me that since he was shot
and almost killed it was not a happy time for him and he was rushed into office, but he healed quickly
and then returned to duty happy and healthy and that is all that matters. These are some obstacles that
Ronald Reagan faced in his life. Ronald Reagan our 40th president made our country better.
In conclusion Ronald Reagan was a very influential person in our world. He did what he believed,
went after what he wanted, and went past obstacles that he faced. If you have been a citizen of the
United States, then you would know how Ronald Reagan ran the country, and how he changed it in so
many ways. Ronald Reagan, our 40th president, made our country

Rhetorical Analysis On Dylan

I think that this is very depressing yet this was a very brave thing for Dylan to do. This was the first
time he said that to his mother in front of Dan. Since Dylan usually respects his mother, this time he
just exploded. I think this is very relatable in every teenagers life. It s like when you re really mad at
something and you just start blurting out things that might not be true. Although, in Dylan s case I
think he has held in this anger in for too long. He deserves to let it all out. The last couple of sentences

Chinese Gunpowder Research Paper
The Chinese developed the first compass as early as the 3rd century B.C.E. The first Chinese
compasses were pieces of a magnetic mineral called lodestone. Earth itself is like a giant magnet with
north and south poles. Because lodestone is magnetic, it is influenced by Earth s magnetic poles. If
you put a piece of lodestone on wood and float it in a bowl of water, the lodestone will turn until it
points in a north south direction.
The Chinese also made sea travel safer by improving boat construction. By the 2nd century C.E., they
started building ships with separate, watertight compartments. Builders divided the ships into sections
and sealed each section with caulk, a sealant that keeps out water. If there were a leak, it would be

in college students during their first semester. The study examined 250 undergraduates in their first
semester of college at Malaysian Public University. The authors used data from the Adapation to
college Questionaire ( SACQ) and the Interpersonal Social Evaluation List College Version ( ISEL );
to test their hypothesis that social support can be in relation to academic adjustment and academic
achievement. The authors found that their hypothesis strongly was supportrf and that more social
support to undergraduate, can lead to a higher academic acheivement. The authors concluded that
social support is an important predictor in determining both the adjustment and academic achievement
among new undergraduates.

Rear Window, By Alfred Hitchcock And The Last Laugh
The films Rear Window, directed by Alfred Hitchcock, and The Last Laugh, directed by Friedrich
Wilhelm Murnau, both feature protagonists going through change, for better or for worse. Rear
Window features L.B. Jeff Jefferies, a professional photographer who is stuck in his wheelchair, in his
apartment, because of an accident he had while on the job. The Last Laugh features a hotel doorman
that gets demoted to a lesser job, who then undergoes a psychological change. Both films use elements
of mise en scene to show how the protagonists adapt and change to their confinement and isolation.
The use of the set, framing, and motifs of doors and windows in both films emphasizes the idea of the
protagonists dealing with change, from freedom to confinement and isolation.
In Rear Window, the set is used show the freedom Jeff had before he was confined to his apartment.
During the opening scene, the camera pans over and zooms out through the window from the other
apartment onto Jeff. The opening scene is significant because it demonstrates how Jeff confines
himself to his apartment; instead, he could be outside venturing in his wheelchair, despite his
disability. Also, the set only consists of the apartment across from Jeff, and his own apartment, while
there are several of buildings looming in the background. This segment of the setting, Jeff s apartment
and the one across from him, suggests that the set is very enclosed and restricted of freedom; for no

Betty Samuelson Issues
The movie North Country was inspired by Jenson v. Eveleth Taconite Co. a Supreme Court Case that
changed sexual harassment in the workplace. In the film, North Country, Josey Aimes, a single mother
of two, is one of the first women to work at an iron mine in Minnesota. After being abused by her ex
husband, Josey moves in with her parents in Northern Minnesota and starts working in an iron mine.
This was the first time that the iron mines of North Minnesota hired female miners. During this time
females who were working in the mines were being constantly harassed by their male coworkers who

According to Betty Samuelson, it is illegal to for employers to discriminate on the basis of race, color,
religion, sex, or national origin (351). In the film women were being discriminated based on their sex,
which according to Samuelson is disparate treatment (351). Working in mines was consider only for
males and when women start working at the mines they suffer all types of injustices. In the film, the
dirties and hardest jobs were given to women, jobs that men didn t want to do. Women didn t have a
voice to speak about their concerns and needs as workers, they were keep under men s control. The
next concept is sexual harassment which refers to unwelcome sexual advances, request for sexual
favors, or other verbal or physical conduct of sexual nature that are so severe and pervasive that other

environment. Hostile work environment refers to, a work environment that is so hostile toward people
in a protected category that it affected their ability to work (353).This concepts apply to the film
because Josey and her coworkers were sexually harassed at their work. They suffered many physical
threatening, assaults and abuses by their male coworkers. They find obscenities written with

Theme Of The Word Love And Arranged Marriage
Another area of similarity is the theme of love being explored exhaustively. There are different
dimensions of love in the two stories. In The Word Love and Arranged Marriage, We only have each
other she often told her. (Banerjee 58) This suggests that there is a pure demonstration of compassion
and maternal love displayed by the lady s mother towards her. The writer perfectly captured how she
never remarried and dedicated her life to raising her despite the fact that her husband died two months
after her birth. The passionate love that existed between the lady and her foreign lover is noticeable.
Though she is overwhelmed by the impending consequence of her relationship which is antithetical to
the Calcutta s marriage rite (There has not been rain for a long time.) I am cherished. (Banerjee 61).
This suggests how intense and profound her love is to the guy; she feels she is blessed. She found it
difficult to separate and work away. In fact, at a time, she almost forgot about the issue of arranged
marriage. In the same vein, the theme of love is depicted in Silver Pavements ... Show more content

There seems to be a clash of culture. In the first story, the foreign lover can t understand why the
mother would oppose their relationship. To him, it is just absurd. There is a clash of the culture here
because, in Calcutta, Marriage is usually arranged between couples sometimes without their
knowledge like the case of the lady s mother who got to know her husband on the wedding day. In
Silver Pavement and Golden Roof, the theme of culture clash is also artistically explored. First, public
drinking is not frequent in Calcutta. Secondly, people calling themselves bad names are uncommon in
Calcutta, and lastly, people attacking foreigners does not exist in Calcutta. For the lady, all of this put
together come as one rude shock which later degenerated to disillusionment and feelings of nostalgia

Saudi Arabia And The Arab Arabia
Located along the Persian Gulf and Red Sea, is a country by the name of Saudi Arabia, the Middle
East s largest country. Saudi Arabia is officially known as the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). Given
the title the birthplace of Islam , makes Saudi Arabia highly respected in the Middle East and in many
other Muslim countries and communities. Composed of over twenty seven million citizens, Saudi
Arabia ranks as the 13th largest country in the world. Business in Saudi Arabia is different than
business in the United States in various aspects, which will be discussed throughout this paper.
Ethical Challenges. Saudi Arabia faces ethical challenges that tend to hinder its progression while
being a very productive country as well. In regards to corruption, Saudi Arabia is ranked in the
middle, compared to any other country in the world. According to Transparency International, Saudi
Arabia ranks 48th out of the 168 countries in reference to corruption with a score of 52%. That 52%
means that Saudi Arabia is somewhat corrupt, with 0% being highly corrupt and 100% being very
clean (Transparency Index, 2016). Saudi Arabia has been making progress towards becoming less
corrupt, given that their Corruptions Perceptions Index score has risen every year since 2008. Reasons
being for this level of corruption is due to the government. The country has corruption laws in place
but these laws are not strictly enforced and are enforced at the discretion of the government. When

how people confirm to their identity. The first idea Schweder point out was that people conform based
upon their own upbringing. The second idea stems from Erick Erosion theory which highlights how
social groups/levels influences people s identity. In Maalouf reading the writer gives various example

Literary Devices In The Bean Trees
The Bean Trees by Barbara Kingsolver deals with many issues in the 20th century such as women
hood, motherhood and immigration laws. But this novel is much more than the issues presented. The
Bean Trees focuses on the importance of family and the love that is shared throughout the novel.
Barbara Kingsolver uses many literary elements to express this love and to overcome the challenges
that are within the book itself. Another piece of literature that compares to The Bean Trees is Women
Work by Maya Angelou. This poem compares not only because it was written during the same time
period but it also expresses the love that motivates these women to push through these difficult times.

In The Bean Trees, Taylor feels it doesn t matter whether or not turtle is her own child physically
because mentally she feels like her mother. Kingsolver shows Taylor s point of view in this quote, I ve
been thinking about that. About how your kids aren t really yours, they re just these people that you try
to keep an eye on, and hope you ll all grow up someday to like each other and still be in one piece.
This is an excellent example of point of view because it shows that Taylors realization that children
aren t really yours, they re just little people that you take care of until they can take care of
themselves. This is important because to Taylor it doesn t matter that Turtle isn t truly hers because she
believes that children aren t really yours and she loves her the same. Another example of this from the
novel is, That means you re my kid, I explained, and I m your mother, and nobody can say it isn t so.
This also shows that Taylor believe that Turtle is hers. The roles of women during this time period
were to tend to the household work; although the speaker does not want to she does it anyway because
she loves her mother. This poem is written in the third person point of view. The speaker is forced to
do all the household work. The speaker rarely goes outside and this is shown in the last few

Essay Use of Semiotics to Analyze Advertisements
The theory of semiotics, as proposed by Roland Barthes, has been used to analyze advertisements and
the effectiveness of advertisements on viewers. In the articles that I researched that used semiotics to
analyze particular advertisements, I found four common and related themes. First, the articles
mentioned that the viewer determines the meaning of the advertisement or the viewer interprets the
advertisement. Second, this meaning that the viewer assigns to the advertisement is largely determined
by context, both social and cultural. Third, advertisers use culture and predominant cultural beliefs in
their advertisements in efforts to reach their audience more effectively. Finally, these advertisements
actually end up supporting the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Originally, Barthes termed connotation as myth because he believed that connotation is a product of
society. Connotation is not the true meaning of the sign but a meaning that society has decided to give
that sign and is a shared meaning (Griffin, 2012). Barthes wrote that connotation makes what is
cultural seem natural (Barthes, 1985/1988). Connotation is what makes habit become ritual. To better
understand these two aspects of signs, we have to understand how the system of what makes up a sign
affects its meaning. Connotative and denotative signs are formed in different ways. Denotative signs
are simply the signified and signifier put together (Griffin, 2012). Connotative signs, however, are a
bit more complex. Originally there is the physical signifier and the signified, which together make up
the denotative system (Griffin, 2012). This denotative sign is what the signifier in the connotative
system is made up of (Griffin, 2012). To this signifier is added a new signified, which is a shared
meaning that has been created by society (Griffin, 2012). This combination creates the connotative of
mythical system. It is in this mythical system that signs derive their meaning (Griffin, 2012). Through
these systems which society has created, signs are interpreted and evaluated by the shared meanings of
society (Griffin, 2012).These mythical systems are not meant to hide the original meanings of
messages but rather

Analyzing The Metamorphosis Essay
Analyzing The Metamorphosis
Upon first reading The Metamorphosis, a person might think the author is a little strange for writing
such a story. It seems to defy anything rational, yet it has been regarded as a masterpiece in literature.
I, myself, still wonder how Kafka could write such a great story that is, in my opinion, extremely
bazaar and, well, weird. And that is putting it lightly. In the beginning of the story, Kafka abruptly
brings us into the sad life of a traveling salesman, named Gregor. When he wakes up in the morning,
the first picture that is painted is a round bellied sort of insect lying on its back with its numerous legs,
which were pitifully thin compared to the rest of his bulk, waved helplessly before his ... Show more

I found this dependence frightening and would probably make me want to turn into a bug, too. Kafka
was brilliant in not actually letting his readers know exactly what kind of bug Gregor was. It was
obviously intentional. When the book got published, Kafka was actually worried that the publisher
would want to illustrate a picture of the bug like creature. He wrote the publisher explaining that he
didn t want any pictures that depicted what Gregor might have looked like. I like this idea because it
really helps the reader of the story use their imagination. One of the worst things in the world is to
read a book, get a picture in your head of what characters look and act like, and in the end, flip
through pictures generated from another person s mind. In John Updike s commentary of Kafka s The
Metamorphosis, he alludes to Gregor maybe being a centipede instead of a beetle or a cockroach.
Though Kafka says Gregor has numerous legs , I do not necessarily think that means he has to be a
centipede. To a human being, numerous legs would be six legs as compared to our normal two legs.
Besides, never have I seen a centipede with a domed like brown belly . Also, a cockroach (which
would be a fitting choice) does not seem to match the description Kafka gives. I have concluded for
myself that the bug that Gregor has sadly

Barak Lost Link With The Natural World
During a world literature class, we watched a film called Baraka, which was cinematically beautiful
and restored within me this lost link with the natural world. It was a compilation of footage of people
and places all over the world, spliced together to form this story of the lives we lead in this modern
world. The film juxtaposed the hectic environment of the machinery that drives the mass production
of consumer goods with footage of serene Japanese snow monkeys relaxing in hot spring baths. This
to me represented how unnatural the world filled with technology and mass consumption in which we
live really is and how it fares poorly when compared with the natural world. It caught my eye that too
often as human beings we are caught up in the motions of life. As I was watching, I was undergoing a
self realization that we forget that we have some other purpose in life besides our monotonous
routines. We aren t just some specks under the sprawling skyscrapers and cities, we must retain our
bond with nature.
Baraka presented these subliminal images that I could easily develop into connections to my life. The
film illustrated the being of nature that exists around us and how indiscreetly we human beings are
becoming forgetful of it. Images of parents driving their children in different countries to school, to
me was a metaphor of delivering them to this promised future of success. In the film this was
juxtaposed to a scene where an innocent child confined to poverty is looking

The Cause Of Genetic Information Being Transferred By A...
Humans have been involved with genetics even before the idea of genetics existed. In the 1800s, a
monk by the name of Mendel used selection in plants and crossed them to study how traits are passed
down from parents to filial generations. Ever since then, genetics have grown over time and it has lead
to much curiosity among scientists, which have then conducted their experiments to overcome their
curiosity. That has lead to many innovations and new findings.
In the early 1920s, Fredrick Griffith conducted an experiment that proposed that bacteria are the cause
of genetic information being transferred by a process called transformation. His further researches
conducted lead him to the finding that DNA was the genetic material that passed information (Klug et
al., 2012). Avery, Mccarty and Macleod using Griffith s findings confirmed that DNA was the material
that was passed down from parents to offspring s in the form of genes. Genes are composed of alleles
that pass down traits from generation to generation.
Once alleles are inherited in a population, traits are expressed. Thus this leads to the idea of population
genetics, which is very crucial to understanding genetics. Population genetics studies the frequency of
alleles that change within a population, which influences evolution. Mathematic principles are used to
population geneticists, which predict any trends that may occur in a given population. The hardy
Weinberg principle is one of these principles.

Individual Project: Manager Interviews
Executive Summary/Introduction
As a process, management is a series of connected functions. Management does not take place in any
particular order; it is a continuous process in which managers adjust what they are doing if a situation
requires them to do so. The management process consists of the four functions, planning, organizing,
and controlling, performed in order to achieve business objectives. The management function of
planning is the practice of setting performance goals and identifying what actions should be used to
meet them. The function of organizing includes assembling duties, individuals, and other ... Show

employees in accomplishing company goals. Katie spends less time planning at only 15 percent. She
spends a little bit of time each day planning what her employees can do to utilize their time in an
efficient way to complete any tasks needing to be completed. Katie uses schedules, meetings, reports,
and organizes transponder fulfilments. She considers herself a behavioral decision maker that uses
problem solving skills to come up with the solutions. When implementing a plan she likes to write the
idea down, confirm it with upper management, use trial and error, and then finalize it. At 35 percent,
Patrick spends the most time of the three managers planning. He is involved in activities such as
profits and losses, finances, the analyzation of trends, improving customer relations, and in figuring
out where to best invest the companies money. When creating or implementing plans, Patrick likes to
use tools such as reports, tables for time management, and excel for forecasting. He does not rely on
meetings as much because his company does not have a hierarchy of command; everyone is on a
similar level. Patrick considers himself a systematic thinker and problem solver (Schermerhorn, 2011,
p.89). When he implements a plan he will message his employees to let them know about it and any
information they need, he prefers receiving no suggestions of alternatives. All

Impact Of Mongol Conquests
The Mongol conquests and campaigns of the thirteenth century markeddid indeed mark an important
break in Eurasian History as they brought the the Eurasian world together as never before. The
Mongols were a mixture of forest and prairie people that lived by hunting and livestock herding. As
skilled archers and deadly warriors they expanded their empire to stretch across northern and central
Asia conquering territories much larger than their own. This unleashed a chain of events that would
leave an impact on the world for ages to come. Trade integrated cultures from all across Eurasia,
accompanying disease. The Mongols conquests brought unprecedented destruction among Eurasia.
The Mongols did more than just conquer though; they intensified cultural exchange through trade and
actually bringing about a period of peace In Eurasia. As the Mongols built their empire, assimilating
conquered peoples and some of their ways, the world became integrated sea and land, in historically
unrivaled ways. An important break in Eurasian history was undoubtedly the significant destruction
brought forth by the Mongol expansions in the thirteenth century. These conquests initiated by
Chinggis (Ghengis) Khan and continued by his successors reached the Pacific Ocean and the Adriatic
Sea, founding dynasties in China, Persia and on the southern Eurasian steppes. The conquests were
quite brutal, as towns that resisted would be decimated. It has been estimated that up to five percent of

Cold Blood Is A Book By Truman Capote
In Cold Blood is a book written by Truman Capote. It s a non fictional book written in the style of a
creative fictional book. The story follows two criminals, Dick and Perry, after they ve murdered four
members of the Clutter family. The already experienced murderers make sure to leave no evidence,
clues, or traces to them in the crime scene. As investigators attempt to figure out the mystery of the
Clutter family murders, Dick and Perry make their way to Mexico until they get found out and get
taken to prison. After several years and trials, the duo are given the ultimate punishment. Because this
novel is a real story, Capote has to make sure the readers get all the details from the actual event. Just
like any other journalism from the newspaper or the TV news report, these details can get tedious and
boring. When writing this book, Capote had the intention of giving the story a creative style that
would capture the reader as any fictional book would. And so, the challenge for Capote would be how
to mix his writing style between realistic and at the same time creatively intriguing. At the start of the
story, Truman Capote has the intention to make sure the reader gets deeply invested into the
environment of the story. He wants us to feel the realistic tone of the story that it s following. In order
to do so, he creates a lot of buildup to the scenery before any major events crop up. Before the main
murder of the Clutter family occurs, Capote spends a decent amount of

The Theory Of Management And Management
F. W. Taylor Scientific Management
Scientific management, also called Taylorism, was a theory of management that analyses and
synthesizes workflow. Its main objective is the improvement of economic efficiency, especially labour
productivity. It was one of the first attempts to apply science to the engineering of processes and
management.
Its development began with Frederick Winslow Taylor in the 1880s and 1890s in manufacturing. Its
peak of influence came in the 1910s; in the 1920s, it was still influential, but began an era of
competition and syncretism with opposing or complementary ideas.
Although the scientific direction of a theory or school of distinct thought was obsolete in the 1930s,
most of its themes are still important elements of industrial engineering and management today. These
include the analysis; synthesis; logic; rationality; empiricism; work ethic; efficiency and waste
disposal; standardization of best practices; contempt for tradition preserved only for herself or to
protect the social status of particular workers with particular skill sets; the transformation of craft
production to mass production; and transfer between workers and workers in the tools, processes and
documentation.
Pursuit of economic efficiency:
Although the terms scientific management and Taylorism are generally treated as synonyms, work of
Frederick Taylor marks only the first form of scientific management, followed by other approaches;

The Basics Of Synchronous And Asynchronous Circuits
ABSTRACT The aim of the presented report is to understand the basics of synchronous and
asynchronous circuits. The term paper is about synchronous and asynchronous circuits and their
differences. The advantages and disadvantages of both synchronous and asynchronous circuits are
discussed further. Digital circuits and sequential circuits are also described in brief at the beginning of
the report. The clock gating, self clock gating and clock signals are explained. Further, the sequential
machines moore and mealy are discussed along with their differences and variations. In the end, the
differences between the two types of circuits are highlighted. Also, the term paper is summed with a
conclusion in the end. What are digital circuits? Those circuits wherever the signal should be one in
every of 2 distinct levels is referred to as digital circuit. Every level is taken into account jointly of 2
completely different states. Example on/off, 0/1, true/false etc. In comparison to analog circuits,
digital circuits are less susceptible to noise or degradation in quality, additionally the errors are
detected and corrected simply with the assistance of digital signals. EDA ELECTRONIC style
AUTOMATION tools (a style of package that improves or enhance the logic in digital circuit) is
employed by the engineer to automatize the method of coming up with such circuits. ADVANTAGES

The Problem Of Addiction Among Teenage Addiction
Eight grade, a time of merely adolescence. It has been recorded that by 8th grade 28% of adolescents
have consumed alcohol, 15% have smoked cigarettes, and 16.5% have used marijuana. A drug can be
defined as a something which alters your mind or body that is not food something all of these
substances have in common. As the years go by there has been a massive increase in underage
consumption of illegal substances. These substances which young people are using are known for
being very addictive, and being taken so young addiction is much more likely to occur, possibly
having more severe consequences. Throughout history, a plethora of cultures have contributed to this
problem of addiction which can be seen within their historical roots. The collective perception that
serious drugs could cure almost anything when used for medicinal purposes, was a major ignition to
the overall issue. As more and more countries began to desire these various drugs as they became
more available, the use of drugs spread rapidly through what is known today as the global drug trade.
Through expansion of familiar substances known as coffee, and opium during the earlier centuries, the
concept of addiction has evolved into what our society has become today. Use of drugs or illegal
substances has been a recurring theme over the past centuries. Originally discovered in Yemen, coffee
gradually become a favorite among the people. There were several legends on how exactly coffee

Summary Of The Yellow Wall-Paper
To be effective means to be successful in producing a desired or intended result. According to
Aristotle, the most effective way to construct the plot of a story is to have a clear beginning, middle,
and end with certain aspects included between each major part to form a complex plot. In the short
story The Yellow Wall Paper , the author, Charlotte Perkins Gilman, follows Aristotle s schema for
constructing an effective plot by drawing the readers emotionally to the characters; including reversal,
recognition, and suffering; and having a complex plot. Charlotte Perkins Gilman emotionally draws
readers to the characters in The Yellow Wall Paper. The unnamed protagonist of the story persuades
readers to pity and empathize with her from the beginning of the story when she talks about her
husband/physician, John, and her depression. She talks about how John is helping her by putting her
on rest cure and keeping her locked in a room with no stimulation from the outside world when she
says, I get unreasonably angry with John sometimes. I m not sure I never used to be so sensitive. I
think it is due to this nervous condition (Gilman 315). When she describes her husband and blames
her sensitivity on her condition, it is hard to read because everyone else can see that she should be
angry with John and he is the main reason that she is in the mental state that she is in. What she
characterized as help from her husband is clearly seen by the audience as harmful and

Declaration Of Rights Of Man And Citizen Essay
Are all humans truly free and entitled to their rights? One major problem that is generated by the
Declarations of Rights of Man and Citizens is the reason the text was written, which is to prevent
public disputes by protecting the rights of man and the citizen (Declaration of the Rights of Man,
1789). Although this text has done a good job of protecting human rights, some improvements must be
made. In 1789, the language used in the text would have worked but in todays society it is conflicting
because it does not necessarily protect the rights of all people such as the LBGTQ community.
Resulting in people of such communities not feeling protected leaving them to question these rights.
The important problem with the Declaration of Rights of Man and Citizen is it does not do its job of
protecting all people with the written rights. The issues with the Declaration of Rights of Man and
Citizen can hopefully be resolved by simply rewriting these rights to better fit all human beings. ...

In the text it states, Ignorance, neglect, or contempt of the rights of man are the sole cause of public
calamities and of the corruption of governments, (Declaration of the Rights of Man, 1789). The
solution to this problem was to give rights to humans essentially giving them freedom, which is what
they wanted, hopefully ending public disputes and corruption of governments (Declaration of the
Rights of Man, 1789). In 1789 it is possible that something like this could have worked but these
rights no longer protect all human beings. There are many movements today which cause public
disputes simply because people feel restricted from being themselves because these rights do not
apply to them. This has now become a problem that the world faces

Given the multiplicity and ambiguity of the horror genre, this essay will isolate the generic
conventions of two specific varieties of horror; the post modern and body horror genres. Pinedo
establishes that all horror films involve the violent disruption of the normative order by a monster
(1997, 15), however the nature of the monster varies greatly. In an exhaustive analysis of the
conventions of the horror genre, Tudor notes that in classic horror films the monster or destabilising
force is external (1989, 28). Tudor goes on to note that an external destabilising force ensures that
within the genre world there is considerable security about the final safety of our minds and bodies
(1989, 28) and that in every classic horror film under analysis, the threat was successfully averted
(Tudor 1989, 28) The resolution of classic horror films inevitably involves the restoration of the
normative order by masculine might or scientific knowledge (Pinedo 1997, 15). The clear coding of
threats as external and the distinct boundary between normality and abnormality can be considered an
important generic convention of the classical horror film. However, body horror and postmodern
horror genres contain a different set of conventions in which the blurred boundary between the self
and the monstrous other is the source of the horror present. In the post modern

Reflection About Culture
We live in a world that is more sedentary. Our contents of our world are available for purchase with
the swipe of a finger. If you are hungry you no longer need to go shopping or visit a restaurant. If you
are lonely you don t need to attend a party or visit family. If you need a new pair of shoes or a book
for college, you don t need to visit the mall or local bookstore. All of these things are sitting in your
little electronic device. The sustenance, social interaction or bauble you desire is just on the other side.
There is no need to point fingers or assign blame, it is just our evolving culture and it has some
growing pains. The best we can do it look for ways to improve our lot in life and capitalize on what is
a weakness and make it a strength. As our culture becomes less active we see more physical and health
reflections of inactive lifestyles. Obesity, diabetes, heart disease and more are lurking in the corners of
each and every life in our society. It may be a family member or a friend but it touches everyone. The
challenge is to make the chore of activity less of a chore and more of a recreation. Athletics and
physical activity look like work and the perception is, if it looks like work, it is work. Mark Twain s
character Tom Sawyer discovered Work consists of whatever a body is obliged to do, and that play
consists of whatever a body is not obliged to do. The interactive virtual reality world is a fruit ripe for

Asian-American Superhero Analysis
Essays, Not Rants! 244: An Asian American Superhero
I wasn t sure how I felt about Silk when she first showed up in the Spider Man comics, but it was
when she got her own series and a narrative no longer intrinsically tied to Peter Parker that she really
came into her own.
But on the on the one hand, yeah, another webslinging spider themed hero? We ve already got a lot
with Peter Parker, Miles Morales, Gwen Stacy, and Miguel O Hara in books of their own; do we need
one more? The thing is, Silk brings with it like each of the other spider books a unique story and
character.
Obviously, there s Silk/Cindy Moon herself. One of the things that hooked me into the book is
something somewhat shallow but terribly important: Cindy is Korean American. Yes, I know, I m
ranting about diversity again. But listen. There are precious few Asian superheroes, even less so with
their own books. There will always be a thrill in getting to see someone who looks like you
represented.
But Cindy s Asian ness isn t just a lip service done through line art and surname, the story in Silk
features distinctly Asian elements.
So quick recap, Cindy got bitten by the same spider that gave Peter Parker his powers, but due to some
bad news involving spider killing vampiric Inheritors (it makes sense in context), Cindy ... Show more

newfound stress of getting used to a modern life (and being a superhero). It s a profound addition that

As many traits exist among humans, it will be discussed as to how traits differ between individuals,
and how the combination and interaction of various traits forms a personality that is unique to each
individual.
BackgroundPsychology
Psychology is the science of mind and behavior. Its immediate goal is to understand behavior and
mental processes by researching and establishing both general principles and specific cases. For many
practitioners, one goal of applied psychology is to benefit society...
For over two hundred years the study of traits has been a continued interest for trait theorists. In 1936
pioneering psychologist Gordon Allport began applying the principles of scientific taxonomy to the
study of character traits, developing a cohesive theory of personality as a generalized, rather than
specific, manifestation (Olivarez, 2010, para.1).In Allport s approach, human traits also referred to as
dispositions could be categorized into three classes: central traits, common traits, and cardinal traits.
Central traits are basic to an individual s personality, whereas secondary traits are more peripheral.
Common traits are those recognized within a culture and may vary between cultures. Cardinal traits
are those by which an individual may be strongly recognized.
Additionally, Allport asserted that a person s traits could be measured,

The Importance Of Objects In My Life
Most individuals have an object that holds a high value to them and affects their life in one way or
another. Behind each object, is a story to be told. Like most people, I have an object in my life that I
cherish dearly and will always appreciate because of the positive effect it has on my life. The object is
soft to the touch, is a variety of colors, and can be made into a tangible object. The object is extremely
important in my life because it has taught me a life lesson that I will always cherish and the object also
reminds me of an individual that pushes me to be the best individual I can possibly be and strive for
greatness no matter the state of a situation. I first encountered this object when I was about eight years
old. I encountered this object when I was at my grandmother s house on a Saturday. My grandmother
was sitting down underneath the porch and I was right beside her. The view was unbelievably
astonishing! Although my grandmother and I were just in the backyard, I remember the grass, trees,
and plants being greener than ever and reflecting the light off that came from the sun. It was a
beautiful day; the weather was warm, there was a slight cool breeze, birds were chirping, and the sun
was glistening beautifully on my grandmother s skin and mine as well. When I first encountered the
object, the only people that were involved was my grandmother and I. I patiently watched my
grandmother precisely while she worked her hands with the yarn and created

Summary Of The Alchemist
1.Throughout this story, the author structured the plot in a very fulfilling manner. The plot is
constructed so that all the events that occurred are deeply connected to one another. Each of the
characters experiences correlates with their past actions and will affect the outcomes they will receive
later on in the story. A great example of this would be Santiago s encounter with the King of Salem
when Santiago was on the brink of giving up his personal legend. Santiago s encounter with the King
was the inspiration and wisdom he needed in order to set out and follow his lifelong dream. Since
most of the story revolves around Santiago s journey, it is clear that this considerable event is the basis
of The Alchemist s whole storyline. Another excellent example that proves this would be when
Santiago met the alchemist while traveling in the desert. This happened as a result of Santiago s ability
to read and interpret omens, which he learned from the King of Salem. While with the alchemist,
Santiago gained a more profound understanding on Alchemy, Personal Legends, and the Language of
the World. A large portion of the message the author wanted to pass on to the readers occurred during
Santiago s travels with the alchemist. This influential event in the story eventually led to Santiago
fulfilling his Personal legend, which was the main intention of the story, ever since its exposition.
2. I highly agree with this statement which says that as people age, pursuing our lifelong

This shows me that since he was swept into the office, he was probably nervous, he came over that and made a great 40th president. Another example is that on history.com it says The couple divorced . This shows me that since he got in a divorce, it was a very hard time for him, but he got remarried and had 2 more kids. Finally, on whitehouse.gov it says On January 20, 1981, Reagan took office. Only 69 days later he was shot by a would be assassin, but quickly recovered and returned to duty. This shows me that since he was shot and almost killed it was not a happy time for him and he was rushed into office, but he healed quickly and then returned to duty happy and healthy and that is all that matters. These are some obstacles that Ronald Reagan faced in his life. Ronald Reagan our 40th president made our country better. In conclusion Ronald Reagan was a very influential person in our world. • 12. Rear Window, By Alfred Hitchcock And The Last Laugh The films Rear Window, directed by Alfred Hitchcock, and The Last Laugh, directed by Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau, both feature protagonists going through change, for better or for worse. Rear Window features L.B. Jeff Jefferies, a professional photographer who is stuck in his wheelchair, in his apartment, because of an accident he had while on the job. The Last Laugh features a hotel doorman that gets demoted to a lesser job, who then undergoes a psychological change. Both films use elements of mise en scene to show how the protagonists adapt and change to their confinement and isolation. The use of the set, framing, and motifs of doors and windows in both films emphasizes the idea of the protagonists dealing with change, from freedom to confinement and isolation. In Rear Window, the set is used show the freedom Jeff had before he was confined to his apartment. During the opening scene, the camera pans over and zooms out through the window from the other apartment onto Jeff. The opening scene is significant because it demonstrates how Jeff confines himself to his apartment; instead, he could be outside venturing in his wheelchair, despite his disability. Also, the set only consists of the apartment across from Jeff, and his own apartment, while there are several of buildings looming in the background. This segment of the setting, Jeff s apartment and the one across from him, suggests that the set is very enclosed and restricted of freedom; for no other areas of the ... Essay Use of Semiotics to Analyze Advertisements The theory of semiotics, as proposed by Roland Barthes, has been used to analyze advertisements and the effectiveness of advertisements on viewers. In the articles that I researched that used semiotics to analyze particular advertisements, I found four common and related themes. First, the articles mentioned that the viewer determines the meaning of the advertisement or the viewer interprets the advertisement. Second, this meaning that the viewer assigns to the advertisement is largely determined by context, both social and cultural. Third, advertisers use culture and predominant cultural beliefs in their advertisements in efforts to reach their audience more effectively. Finally, these advertisements actually end up supporting the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Originally, Barthes termed connotation as myth because he believed that connotation is a product of society. Connotation is not the true meaning of the sign but a meaning that society has decided to give that sign and is a shared meaning (Griffin, 2012). Barthes wrote that connotation makes what is cultural seem natural (Barthes, 1985/1988). Connotation is what makes habit become ritual. To better understand these two aspects of signs, we have to understand how the system of what makes up a sign affects its meaning. Connotative and denotative signs are formed in different ways. Denotative signs are simply the signified and signifier put together (Griffin, 2012). Connotative signs, however, are a bit more complex. Originally there is the physical signifier and the signified, which together make up the denotative system (Griffin, 2012). This denotative sign is what the signifier in the connotative system is made up of (Griffin, 2012). To this signifier is added a new signified, which is a shared meaning that has been created by society (Griffin, 2012). This combination creates the connotative of mythical system. It is in this mythical system that signs derive their meaning (Griffin, 2012). Through these systems which society has created, signs are interpreted and evaluated by the shared meanings of society (Griffin, 2012).These mythical systems are not meant to hide the original meanings of messages but rather ... It seems to defy anything rational, yet it has been regarded as a masterpiece in literature. I, myself, still wonder how Kafka could write such a great story that is, in my opinion, extremely bazaar and, well, weird. And that is putting it lightly. In the beginning of the story, Kafka abruptly brings us into the sad life of a traveling salesman, named Gregor. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I found this dependence frightening and would probably make me want to turn into a bug, too. Kafka was brilliant in not actually letting his readers know exactly what kind of bug Gregor was. It was obviously intentional. When the book got published, Kafka was actually worried that the publisher would want to illustrate a picture of the bug like creature. He wrote the publisher explaining that he didn t want any pictures that depicted what Gregor might have looked like. I like this idea because it really helps the reader of the story use their imagination. One of the worst things in the world is to read a book, get a picture in your head of what characters look and act like, and in the end, flip through pictures generated from another person s mind. In John Updike s commentary of Kafka s The Metamorphosis, he alludes to Gregor maybe being a centipede instead of a beetle or a cockroach. Though Kafka says Gregor has numerous legs , I do not necessarily think that means he has to be a centipede. To a human being, numerous legs would be six legs as compared to our normal two legs. Besides, never have I seen a centipede with a domed like brown belly . Also, a cockroach (which would be a fitting choice) does not seem to match the description Kafka gives. • 21. Barak Lost Link With The Natural World During a world literature class, we watched a film called Baraka, which was cinematically beautiful and restored within me this lost link with the natural world. It was a compilation of footage of people and places all over the world, spliced together to form this story of the lives we lead in this modern world. The film juxtaposed the hectic environment of the machinery that drives the mass production of consumer goods with footage of serene Japanese snow monkeys relaxing in hot spring baths. This to me represented how unnatural the world filled with technology and mass consumption in which we live really is and how it fares poorly when compared with the natural world. It caught my eye that too often as human beings we are caught up in the motions of life. As I was watching, I was undergoing a self realization that we forget that we have some other purpose in life besides our monotonous routines. We aren t just some specks under the sprawling skyscrapers and cities, we must retain our bond with nature. Baraka presented these subliminal images that I could easily develop into connections to my life. The film illustrated the being of nature that exists around us and how indiscreetly we human beings are becoming forgetful of it. Images of parents driving their children in different countries to school, to me was a metaphor of delivering them to this promised future of success. • 22. The Cause Of Genetic Information Being Transferred By A... Humans have been involved with genetics even before the idea of genetics existed. In the 1800s, a monk by the name of Mendel used selection in plants and crossed them to study how traits are passed down from parents to filial generations. Ever since then, genetics have grown over time and it has lead to much curiosity among scientists, which have then conducted their experiments to overcome their curiosity. That has lead to many innovations and new findings. In the early 1920s, Fredrick Griffith conducted an experiment that proposed that bacteria are the cause of genetic information being transferred by a process called transformation. His further researches conducted lead him to the finding that DNA was the genetic material that passed information (Klug et al., 2012). Avery, Mccarty and Macleod using Griffith s findings confirmed that DNA was the material that was passed down from parents to offspring s in the form of genes. Genes are composed of alleles that pass down traits from generation to generation. Once alleles are inherited in a population, traits are expressed. Thus this leads to the idea of population genetics, which is very crucial to understanding genetics. Population genetics studies the frequency of alleles that change within a population, which influences evolution. Mathematic principles are used to population geneticists, which predict any trends that may occur in a given population. The hardy Weinberg principle is one of these principles. Hardy ... • 26. The Theory Of Management And Management F. W. Taylor Scientific Management Scientific management, also called Taylorism, was a theory of management that analyses and synthesizes workflow. Its main objective is the improvement of economic efficiency, especially labour productivity. It was one of the first attempts to apply science to the engineering of processes and management. Its development began with Frederick Winslow Taylor in the 1880s and 1890s in manufacturing. Its peak of influence came in the 1910s; in the 1920s, it was still influential, but began an era of competition and syncretism with opposing or complementary ideas. Although the scientific direction of a theory or school of distinct thought was obsolete in the 1930s, most of its themes are still important elements of industrial engineering and management today. These include the analysis; synthesis; logic; rationality; empiricism; work ethic; efficiency and waste disposal; standardization of best practices; contempt for tradition preserved only for herself or to protect the social status of particular workers with particular skill sets; the transformation of craft production to mass production; and transfer between workers and workers in the tools, processes and documentation. One major problem that is generated by the Declarations of Rights of Man and Citizens is the reason the text was written, which is to prevent public disputes by protecting the rights of man and the citizen (Declaration of the Rights of Man, 1789). Although this text has done a good job of protecting human rights, some improvements must be made. In an exhaustive analysis of the conventions of the horror genre, Tudor notes that in classic horror films the monster or destabilising force is external (1989, 28). Tudor goes on to note that an external destabilising force ensures that within the genre world there is considerable security about the final safety of our minds and bodies (1989, 28) and that in every classic horror film under analysis, the threat was successfully averted (Tudor 1989, 28) The resolution of classic horror films inevitably involves the restoration of the normative order by masculine might or scientific knowledge (Pinedo 1997, 15). One of the things that hooked me into the book is something somewhat shallow but terribly important: Cindy is Korean American. Yes, I know, I m ranting about diversity again. But listen. There are precious few Asian superheroes, even less so with their own books. There will always be a thrill in getting to see someone who looks like you represented. But Cindy s Asian ness isn t just a lip service done through line art and surname, the story in Silk features distinctly Asian elements. So quick recap, Cindy got bitten by the same spider that gave Peter Parker his powers, but due to some bad news involving spider killing vampiric Inheritors (it makes sense in context), Cindy ... Her sessions often provide narration for her adventures as she confides in her therapist, which is a fun narrative tool in itself, but the portrayal of therapy as being something both normal and healthy stands out as special in comics. It s not a sign of weakness, but rather a way for Cindy to work out anger issues and the newfound stress of getting used to a modern life (and being a superhero). It s a profound addition that subtly destigmatizes getting help while allowing space in Cindy s life to focus on her family without too much ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As many traits exist among humans, it will be discussed as to how traits differ between individuals, and how the combination and interaction of various traits forms a personality that is unique to each individual. BackgroundPsychology Psychology is the science of mind and behavior. Its immediate goal is to understand behavior and mental processes by researching and establishing both general principles and specific cases. For many practitioners, one goal of applied psychology is to benefit society... For over two hundred years the study of traits has been a continued interest for trait theorists. In 1936 pioneering psychologist Gordon Allport began applying the principles of scientific taxonomy to the study of character traits, developing a cohesive theory of personality as a generalized, rather than specific, manifestation (Olivarez, 2010, para.1).In Allport s approach, human traits also referred to as dispositions could be categorized into three classes: central traits, common traits, and cardinal traits. Central traits are basic to an individual s personality, whereas secondary traits are more peripheral. Common traits are those recognized within a culture and may vary between cultures. Cardinal traits are those by which an individual may be strongly recognized. Additionally, Allport asserted that a person s traits could be measured, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. The Importance Of Objects In My Life Most individuals have an object that holds a high value to them and affects their life in one way or another. Behind each object, is a story to be told. Like most people, I have an object in my life that I cherish dearly and will always appreciate because of the positive effect it has on my life. The object is soft to the touch, is a variety of colors, and can be made into a tangible object. The object is extremely important in my life because it has taught me a life lesson that I will always cherish and the object also reminds me of an individual that pushes me to be the best individual I can possibly be and strive for greatness no matter the state of a situation. I first encountered this object when I was about eight years old. I encountered this object when I was at my grandmother s house on a Saturday. My grandmother was sitting down underneath the porch and I was right beside her. The view was unbelievably astonishing! Although my grandmother and I were just in the backyard, I remember the grass, trees, and plants being greener than ever and reflecting the light off that came from the sun. It was a beautiful day; the weather was warm, there was a slight cool breeze, birds were chirping, and the sun was glistening beautifully on my grandmother s skin and mine as well. When I first encountered the object, the only people that were involved was my grandmother and I. I patiently watched my grandmother precisely while she worked her hands with the yarn and created ... • 36. Summary Of The Alchemist 1.Throughout this story, the author structured the plot in a very fulfilling manner. The plot is constructed so that all the events that occurred are deeply connected to one another. Each of the characters experiences correlates with their past actions and will affect the outcomes they will receive later on in the story. A great example of this would be Santiago s encounter with the King of Salem when Santiago was on the brink of giving up his personal legend. Santiago s encounter with the King was the inspiration and wisdom he needed in order to set out and follow his lifelong dream. Since most of the story revolves around Santiago s journey, it is clear that this considerable event is the basis of The Alchemist s whole storyline. Another excellent example that proves this would be when Santiago met the alchemist while traveling in the desert. This happened as a result of Santiago s ability to read and interpret omens, which he learned from the King of Salem. While with the alchemist, Santiago gained a more profound understanding on Alchemy, Personal Legends, and the Language of the World. A large portion of the message the author wanted to pass on to the readers occurred during Santiago s travels with the alchemist. This influential event in the story eventually led to Santiago fulfilling his Personal legend, which was the main intention of the story, ever since its exposition. 2. I highly agree with this statement which says that as people age, pursuing our lifelong ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Application Of A Computer Science It is said that one third of all Internet users visit a site or application powered by Amazon Web Service. As a developer leveraging the AWS, I had my fair share of questions. How secure is my critical data? Is the system fault tolerant? How much control do I have over the infrastructure? How do the people in Amazon overcome the technical challenge of maintaining such a massive infrastructure? These questions kindled my curiosity in Cloud Computing. This curiosity has led me from hosting a static website in S3 for fun, to working on creating full scale dynamic web applications that cater to thousands of scientists on a daily basis. I have a passion for developing software applications and using them as a tool to serve people. It is with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the final year of my undergraduate degree course, I was the only one from my college to get the coveted internship opportunity at Siemens Corporate Research and Technology, Bangalore, where I worked under the guidance of Mr. Tushar Sharma, Technical Expert. During this internship, my primary responsibility was to build Augur, a software Change Impact Analysis (CIA) tool that helps in predicting the impacts of a proposed change in a project during refactoring with the help of a Unified Dependency Graph (UDG). The tool went beyond predicting data and control dependencies, taking into account environmental and structural dependencies. The analysis did not depend on historical data and was possible for different source code entities at all abstraction levels. The tool was tested by some internal teams and received positive feedback and they appreciated its efficacy. The time I spent working on this internship was invaluable in many ways. The numerous codebases I went through understanding their underlying design, how they incurred technical debt, how it affected the refactoring process and the overall code quality gave me a good understanding and a fresh perspective about programming in the real world and laid a strong foundation for my software development career. I learnt here the level of consistency and dedication required to get the desired results. As my internship was in a corporate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Goldsmith Pickle Bought and started it in 1945 in Atkins Arkansas. The Goldsmith Pickle Company invested in a seventy five thousand dollars to build and equip pickle plants. Many towns people raised and additional fifth teen thousand dollars to build and equip the plants. The People for Better Atkins organization started the pickle fest celebration in 1992. In 1945 the Goldsmith plant later became the Atkins Pickle Company. The Atkins pickle company finally closed in 2002. The new company employs more people than the pickle plant did at its end, but it does not provide the same level of recognition for the once dubbed the Pickle Capital of the World and known as home of the fried dill pickle. The company was a staple of town economy for fifty years. They used an original secret family recipe that was developed in 1960 for fried pickles by Bernell Austin. All the money goes to The ...
