Bike Theft On College Campuses
What s mine is yours
Bike theft is the number one reported crime on college campuses. And with the cost of bicycles among
college students ranging from 250 to 300 dollars, . Of these bikes reported stolen, only about 1 in 100
are recovered. On a nationwide level, the FBI and National Bike Registry estimates the total cost of
bikes stolen every year to be $350 million.
From recent efforts of campus securities around the nation, the amount of bikes stolen has decreased
dramatically, but is still a prevalent issue. To reduce the number of bike thefts, university officials
have been placing bait bicycles with GPS tracking systems around college campuses. Because of their
recent efforts, more arrests have been made on campuses such as Arizona

Venn Diagrams Influence On Mayan Creation
There are many different kinds of religions and interpretations of events, that took place. Whether
someone reads about the Native American creation stories or the rigid beliefs of the Puritans that
Landed in the Massachusetts Bay Colony they are all religions that shaped America to what it is,
today. In America today, there are many different religions along with branches of religions that
influence decisions that are made. The creator, or creators, in the religions, that influenced Early
America all have very different views, towards the Earth and mankind. The Mayan creators only
wanted humans for them to be able to praise them, the Inuit god was not expecting humans to roam
hear but after they were hatched he cared for them. The Mayan creators: Tepeu the Maker and
Gucumatz the Feathered Spirit first created the Earth, together by coming together. After this whatever
they imagined was created. They needed something to look after their creation, this is why they
created animals. The two Gods want praise so they said Now, praise us! Say our names! commanded

The Inuits had direct contact, with their creator, during their creation, and it was a positive interaction
so the view of The Raven is positive. The Mayans had their interactions with their creators, in a
different way. The two creators were not only wanting someone to take care of the Earth, their
creation, but someone who can verbally praise them. The Puritans connected to their creator through
their scripture, poems, and sermons. All of the religions, that were discussed, had loyal followers that
loved the creators and felt cared for, by their creator. That I am Cloathd in Holy robes for glory.

Indentured Servitude In Slavery
Slavery has been around for centuries all over the world, and the history of slavery in the Caribbean is
one of great density. Indentured servants were one of the first forms of labourers on plantations in the
Caribbean before the introduction of African slaves. Plantation owners eventually saw these servants
as too much of a complication, thus putting an end to white indentured servants in the Caribbean.
Following the use of white indentured servants as labourers in the Caribbean, a heavy reliance was
placed on the use of African slaves. The sugar revolution was the beginning of a new era in slavery,
and the introduction of the super exploitation of African slaves, an exploitation that was not exhibited
towards white indentured servants.

Abstract
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a noninvasive medical test that physicians use to diagnose and
treat medical conditions. MRI uses a powerful magnetic field, radio frequency pulses and a computer
to produce detailed pictures of organs, soft tissues, bone and virtually all other internal body
structures.
I. Introduction
The MRI technique stems from Nikola Tesla s discovery of rotating magnetic fields, in 1882.
However, Tesla s discovery isn t the sole building block of MRI technology, in 1937 Isidor Rabi, of
Columbia University, discovered nuclear magnetic resonance. This discover showed that an atom s
nucleus will absorb and emit radio waves if they are exposed to strong enough magnetic fields. The
first MRI image was developed on July 3rd, 1977 by Dr. Raymond Damadian in New York.
Nowadays the world s most powerful MRI scanner is located at the Magnet Academy and produces a
magnetic field of 21.1 Tesla, at a frequency of 900 megahertz.
At the present time, the human population is chronically exposed to natural and man made sources of
ionizing and non ionizing radiations, the latter being, for instance, electric and magnetic fields (EMF).

Media Influences Children s Behavior
Media can be described as the social and mass media that children are exposed to in their daily lives.
Examples of the media platforms and materials include radios and television broadcasts, movies and
music, newspapers and magazines, social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter,
Google Talk, Skype, among others (Samantha 2013). Media plays a critical role in the lives of the
children. It provides a socializing tool, educative and informative resources, entertainment, marketing
and advertising. Although the contents` and accessing of the media contents by children are regulated,
some of the contents of the media accessed by children indicate violence incidences (Samantha 2013,
p. 6). Exposing children to Violence contained in the contents of these platforms may or may not
influence the behavior of the children. The writer postulates that exposing children to media violence
has a negative influence to their behavior that develops a hostile and violent behavior in the children.
Media violence Influences Children`s Behavior
According to the book published by Arnett, 2010, Adolescence and emerging adulthood: A cultural
approach, she explores the social cultural factors that influenced the behavior of the children as the
turned adolescents (Arnett, 2010). She identified that the leading behavior influencers were
community structure and relations, family structure and functions, school life, and the religious beliefs
and practices. At the centre of these was

Transformational Leadership Style The transformational leadership can be defined as a process where
leaders and their followers raise one another to higher levels of morality and motivation (Burns 2010 )

Erikson s Stages Of My Life
Phrases such as you are turning into your mother or that s so something mom would say/do, have
become increasingly more common with each passing year of my life. I have come to accept the fact
that not only do my mother and I favor in appearance, but also in many behavioral way as well. My
mother recently turned 46, and I chose her as my person of interest because it is the closest I will ever
get to interviewing my future self. As well as I know my mother, I have never had the opportunity to
analyze her development and her current stage of life. It is amazing what one can learn and take away
from a few simple questions when they are based on theory, especially Erikson s.
It is clear to see every one of Erikson s stages play out within my mother s life. As a 46 year old
woman, she has achieved most all of the beginning stages, such as autonomy and industry, but it was
not until after she was married, at age 22, that she gained a more clear and confident identity while she
simultaneously worked toward achieving intimacy. Though Erikson believed that one must have a
secure self identity before moving onto the next stage, which includes marriage, it is evident in the
case of my mother that the relationships she formed after marriage are what makes up the majority of
her current identity. In stage seven she developed a mature love and fully found her identity through
experiences as a mother and wife. She even went as far as to say that she would have most likely

It s Kill A Mockingbird, By Harper Lee

ENG 2D
18 December 2014
It s a Sin to Kill a Mockingbird Harper Lee s novel To Kill a Mockingbird, is a story that takes place
in the south of the U.S in the 1930 s during the time of the great depression when racism was at it s
highest. To kill a mockingbird is a story of destroyed innocence where the mockingbird is used to
represent the idea of innocence. Harper Lee portrays the theme that it s a sin to kill a mockingbird
through Tom Robinson, Arthur Radley and Jeremy Atticus loss of innocence because they are
symbolic mockingbirds. Firstly, Tom Robinson is a mockingbird because he is an innocent man
convicted of raping a white woman due to the colour of his skin which in turn leads to the loss of his
innocence. Atticus was able to make a good defense for Tom by stating the fact that the right side of
Mayella s face had suffered severe damage meaning that a person who was left handed most likely
attacked her. He goes on to prove that Bob Ewell is left handed while Tom s left hand is disfigured,
having taken the oath with the only good arm he possesses his right hand (Lee 273). Although all the
evidence proved Tom to be innocent he was still convicted of being guilty, thus stripping him of his
innocence. Furthermore, Tom was convicted of being guilty just because he was black and taking the
word of a black man over that of a white man was unimaginable. The jury had already found Tom
guilty even before the start of the trial because of the

Market Forecast
Introduction
As business becomes more increasingly global, it s very important that countries pay close attention to
foreign exchange exposures in order to design ways of implementing appropriate strategies to properly
deal with these types of exposures. In this paper I will attempt to forecast the degree of transaction,
translation and the economic exposure for Russia. I will follow that by forecasting the degree of these
specific areas and analyzing the various techniques used to mitigate these exposures. The goal of this
paper is to identify a few concepts of transaction, translation, and economic exposure for international
operations in Russia.

Translation Exposure Translation exposure, also frequently called accounting exposure, refers to the
effect that unanticipated change in exchange rates will have on the consolidated financial reports of a
MNC. Translation or Accounting Exposure equals the difference between exposed assets and
liabilities. The trick is to decide what is exposed and what is not. Four methods of foreign currency
translation have been used in recent years, the current/non current method, the monetary/non monetary
method, the
temporal method, and the current rate method. The underlying principle of the current/non current
method is that assets and liabilities should be translated based on their maturity. The monetary/non
monetary method is that monetary accounts have a similarity because their value represents a sum of
money whose currency equivalent after translation changes each time the exchange rate changes.
Under the temporal method, monetary

Physical And Cognitive Development Of Ella Fitzgerald s Life
Her struggles in adolescence continued, but there was not a lot of consequence on her physical and
cognitive development during her young adulthood years. Like most individuals during this time, her
health status could be considered as good, possibly even excellent. This is a normal trend for young
adults. In addition, she started to be surrounded by social support, which is very good for cognitive
development. She struggled some with reflective thinking, but as an overall, having social support
kept her on her feet when life continued to try to knock her down.
While her career was beginning to take off, Ella Fitzgerald was married twice. The first one lasted less
than a year as she got a divorce after learning about her husband s criminal record and then the second
one was a little bit different. With her second marriage, she loved her husband and wanted to build a
life with him, ultimately adopting a son with her husband. Despite her desires, however, her busy
career as a jazz singer got in the way and they were divorced six years later. These life events go with
Erikson s theory of intimacy versus isolation. She never quite figured out the concept of intimacy in a
long term relationship, at least not enough to be successful in this theory. With this being said, it did
not affect her further social and psychological development during midlife in the ways that one would
think. In midlife, Ella Fitzgerald really figured herself out. She reached Erikson s theory of

Theme Of Family In Harry Potter
Harry Potter becomes an orphan in the beginning of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer s Stone. His lack of
family is a major theme and topic throughout the entire Harry Potter series. However, an equally
important topic is about the people who become his surrogate family. There are many characters that
Harry considers family in the series, but two of the most important and overlooked parental figures
have been around since the beginning of the series. Professors Minerva McGonagall and Severus
Snape have both acted like parents to Harry during his time at Hogwarts, but the two teachers

The Importance Of The Environment
Throughout the years, the topic of the environment and the preservation of it has become more and

as well as the dishonorable methods of acquiring or accessing certain natural resources. In come
individuals or organizations, that believe that the use of certain resources or the protection of many

organization that could be perceived as moral entrepreneur(s), would be the World Wildlife Fund.

Comparison Of Masaccio And Raphael s The Holy Trinity ...
Perspective plays an important role in understanding Masaccio s frescos. Masaccio was born in 1401
and died unfortunately young in 1428. His full birth name is Tommasio di Ser Giovanni de Simone.
He made a great contribution to Italian and Florentine art during the Quattrocento period of the Italian
Renaissance. He worked alongside Filippo Brunelleschi an Italian architect and engineer. Together
they created the idea of linear perspective with the influence of earlier artists such as Lorenzetti,
Duccio and Giotto brothers. Linear perspective helps to form the impression of a three dimensional
space on a completely flat surface. This essay will compare The Holy Trinity (fig. 1) by Masaccio and
Raphael s The School of Athens (fig. 2). Both Masaccio and Raphael use linear perspective in their
paintings to create a sense of depth and realism.
The Holy Trinity (fig. 1) was a fresco painting created in 1428. It is currently in the Dominican church
of Santa Maria Novella, in Florence and was believed to have been commissioned by the Domenico
Lenzi and his wife. It is both a religious and secular painting. It portrays the Trinity of God the Father,
Christ the Son and the Holy Ghost, which is symbolized by a white dove. Masaccio uses a scientific
approach by creating an illusion of space within the painting. When the viewer walks into the Santa
Maria Novella, they are confronted by a painting that looks realistic but is quite strange. The Holy
Trinity simulates a real

Case Study On Refactoring
Survey of Software Refactoring Summary: The paper published by Tom Mens and Tom Tourwe
provides us an overview of existing research in software refactoring. The refactoring activities,
techniques, formalisms and the types of artifacts are taken into criteria. Since the software has been
evolving with time, the code has become more complex, hence the software development cost s major
part is given to software maintenance. Refactoring or restructuring is the problem which implies the
need of techniques that reduce software complexity by improving software quality. Refactoring is the
process of changing a software system in such a way that it does not alter the external behavior of the
code, yet improves its internal structure . The classes, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Here, automation, reliability, configurability, coverage and scalability or refactoring tools are

which is essentially done by refactoring method. Evolution conflicts arise when parallel refactoring is
done. Same is the case with object oriented application frameworks, software families/ product line.
Critique: Firstly, refactoring cannot be applied for the codes written in non object oriented languages.
Secondly, refactoring cannot be done for the processes with less delivery time, this is because
refactoring requires considerable amount of time for testing. Thirdly, the refactoring process fails even
though it does not alter the behavior of the program. Next, the refactoring process depends on the
complexity of code and the errors and the design of the code. Refactoring won t be a good idea for
very complex codes. When the refactoring process is applied to a complex and high error code, the
rate of success is too low. The entire system is affected due to the loss of so much time and the cost
invested on the refactoring

Reducing Public Services
Yet another set of cuts is now foreseen to our beleaguered local service, just days after announcements
were made regarding consultations on reducing children s services, school buses and, well, just about
anything you can think of which serves the public basically.
This time the council is proposing reviewing the timetables of a number of bus services in and around
Witney, but also other rural areas of the County. I can t comment on services in other neighbourhoods,
but our 18 and 19 routes are for many people a lifeline. For the elderly, unemployed, disabled and
youths buses are the one and only form of transport available to them to get them into the main
business centres of Witney and Oxford.
The council is proposing reducing these services from hourly to two hourly. If you have opened the
consultation papers online you would have noticed that this would save the council at most under
£200,000 a sum which is insignificant in the annual transport budget of just over £53 million, but one
with severe repercussions for many.
The view of the Green Party is simple. We can t justify the existence of public services just on the
basis of a crude income and expenditure analysis. In the instance of transport a proper cost benefit
analysis should take into account matters such as benefit to the environment, sustainability and overall
services distribution. In this context reducing buses in rural areas would clearly make no sense
whatsoever.

opposition was beginning to form. From the mid 1970 s Vaclav Havel, a former playwright would

Our system, on the other hand, has been developing in the Soviet Union for over sixty years, and for
approximately thirty years in Eastern Europe... In terms of the physical aspects of power, this has led
to the creation of such intricate and well developed mechanism for the direct and indirect
manipulation of the entire population that, as a physical power base, it represents something radically
new. That something new was what Havel would call the post totalitarian system. One of Havel s
major criticisms of the communist regime was how it falsified everything and while promising to
serve the people, ruthlessly made the people serve it. The post totalitarian system touches people at
every step, but it does so with its ideological gloves on. This is why life in the system is so thoroughly
permeated with hypocrisy and lies: government by bureaucracy is called popular government; the
working class is enslaved in the name of the working class; the complete degradation of the individual
is presented as his ultimate liberation; depriving people of information is called making it available;
the use of power to manipulate is called the public control of power, and the arbitrary abuse of power
is called observing the legal code, the repression of culture is called its development; etc.. Due to this
the citizens must behave, as they believe everything the government tells them.

Business Intelligence Balanced Scorecard product by Medstreaming Inc
Abstract
This paper highlights viability of having a new product offering by Medstreaming Company namely a
Business Intelligence Balanced Scorecard specifically designed for the healthcare sector. Focus of the
study is on identifying the appropriate measurement metrics for the balanced scorecard. The project
has added knowledge to the critical issues which need to be addressed by the healthcare organizations
in implementing the Business Intelligence Balanced Scorecard product within the system. This project
also discusses the benefits which the proposed business intelligence tool once implemented in a
healthcare organization can provide for all hierarchical levels of the organization. Introduction
Research studies indicate that a good proportion of adverse safety events can be prevented in hospitals
globally by deploying effective business intelligence tools which can capture the reasons for
occurrence of such events in a quantitative manner. It has been reported that approximately 70,000
healthcare mishaps within the operational domain of the leading hospitals within Canada could have
been avoided by using appropriate metrics (Ferrand and Amyot, 2010). Besides safety aspect, it has
been seen that with growing corporatization of the healthcare sector, the enterprises operational
management is being induced to maximize the returns from the available resources (both man and

Imperialism In Frantz Fanon s The Wretched Of The Earth
In his book Culture and Imperialism, Edward Said articulates on the hybrid nature of postcolonial
identities:
No one today is purely one thing. Labels like Indian, or woman, or Muslim, or American are not more
than starting points, which if followed into actual experience for only a moment are quickly left
behind. Imperialism consolidated the mixture of cultures and identities on a global scale. But its worst
and most paradoxical gift was to allow people to believe that they were only, mainly, exclusively,
white, or Black, or Western, or Oriental (Said 336).

Spanish Conquest Of California Essay
In 1520s the Spanish began to explore California. They wanted to map the coastline of California and
find a safe harbor for Spain. It was not until 1776 that a safe harbor was claimed for the Spanish
empire. The beginning theory was the California was an island, but through Spanish expeditions that
theory was proven wrong. In the beginning of the explorations a group of explores landed on Bahia de
la Paz, which is near the tip of the Baja Peninsula. When the Spanish landed, the Indians killed all but
two of the explorers. Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo s mission was to find a northern route that would
connect the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. With his attempts to find this rout, he ended up being the first

pueblo created. Four years later the Los Angeles pueblo was created. More than half of the population

farming, and trading. Their money, land, and tools came from Spain. In return they had to build new

The Form And The Literary Style Of Wisdom
Discuss the content, the form and the literary style of wisdom as presented in Proverbs 11
Wisdom literature within the Old Testament consists of a broad collection of books that reflect on
Israel s religious faith. Within the Catholic designation, seven books that of Proverbs, Job, Psalms,
Ecclesiastes (Qoheleth) Song of Songs, Sirach and Wisdom are proffered. These books differ in both
style and subject matter, nonetheless they share common characteristics which distinguish them from
other biblical books. Wisdom has a focus on divine salvation proclaimed by the Torah and prophets,
whilst displaying a slight interest in Israel as a nation historically. There main emphasis is in
addressing the problems of why there is suffering, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Proverbs encapsulate the human experience in its universality and comprehension, and is a classic
example of postexilic composition, with a lengthy history dating back to the Solomonic era. Some
sayings have been attributed to the civilisation of the Sumerians in 3000 B.C. with later additions by
Solomon not written down until two centuries later in the time of King Hezekiah of Judah. Other
smaller collections are attributed to wise teachers and kings. Proverbs is a book largely made up of
maxims or in Hebrew the mashal. The sayings within offer a key to proper conduct in the course of
daily living and cover everything from table manners to sexual behaviour in setting forth the norms
for a good life. It is based on the reverence for God and obedience to his laws with the fear of the Lord
the essence of all true human wisdom. The origins of the Wisdom (personified as a woman) literature
are often identified with court circles where young men were trained in the discipline and skills of
royal life. Israel was not alone in this with many example of this type of wisdom on other Near
Eastern culture. Education was seen as valid and applicable to much of life s circumstances and
suitable to that of a postexilic monarchy. It is generally alleged that it was after this period that
proverbs were collected and edited. It is proposed that some of the collections of proverbs originated

The Effects and Perceptions of a Therapeutic Medical Play Session for Pediatric Surgical Patients
It has been documented that children undergoing surgery and their families experience high levels of
distress and perioperative anxiety. Stress and perioperative anxiety have the potential to cause more
harm on post surgical healing, in consideration of both physical and mental health, if not addressed
promptly and properly. Child Life Specialists are pediatric healthcare professionals who are able to
provide interventions to help reduce anxiety and increase developmental growth within pediatric
patients, provide family centered care, and facilitating therapeutic play interventions for pediatric
patients, all the while in the hospital environment (Child Life Council, 2014). Child life specialists are
able to meet these values and missions to create a standard of practice that the American Pediatric
Association recommends in all pediatric healthcare settings (Child Life Council, 2014). Typically,
when child life specialists are working with pediatric patients undergoing anesthesia for surgical
procedures they are able to participate as a part of the multidisciplinary health team to provide family
centered care and increase a patient and their families understanding on the medical procedure at
hand. A common intervention for pediatric patients undergoing anesthesia for surgical procedures

The Aftermath Of Hurricane Katrina
1. INTRODUCTION
During the Hurricane Katrina in 2005, even though the National Weather Service (NWS) had
forecasted the storm characteristics information on wind speed, storm surge and rainfall accurately, the
local authorities responded inadequately (Kent, 2006; Basher, 2006). The aftermath of Hurricane
Katrina pumps a series of discussions on emergency responses in a hurricane hazard (e.g., Basher,
2006; Kent, 2006; Kamarck, 2007; Spencer, 2013). Researches draw their attention to this discussion
focused on three questions: (1) who should be in charge (e.g., Kamarck, 2007; Badiru and Racz, 2013;
Barnhill, 2013; Cova et al., in press)? (2) To do what (e.g., Lindell and Perry 1992; Kim et al., 2006;

According to the Protective Action Decision Model (PADM) by Lindell and Perry (1992; 2004; 2012)
which summarized previous researches on public s responses to environmental threats, people would
be made aware of a threat by social warnings, social cues, and environmental cues (Huang, Lindell

Hence, local authorities, on the one hand, have the responsibilities to carry the PARs to the people
who are at risk (Basher, 2006; Lindell and Perry, 2012), whereas risk area households response efforts,
on the other hand, would rely on the guidance of officials PARs (Baker 1991, 1995; Huang et al. in

availability (Chen et al., 2007). Consequently, the failure of the delivery of the appropriate PARs in
time would either set those households in danger or push them to follow peers response actions
(Huang et al., 2012; Huang, Lindell Prater, in press a; b). It is a significant gap Cova et al. (in press)

The Bradley Fighting Vehicle (BFV) versus the Future Fighting Vehicle (FFV) Programs MSG Torry
Rice United States Army Sergeants Major Academy Class 67 Mr. Madera Introduction In the past 15
years, the battlefield has been in the open desert and urban environments. The geographical locations
where the United States have fought their wars have had a demand for armored troop vehicles. The
Bradley Fighting Vehicle (BFV) has met and exceeded that demand since 1981. With the possible new
threat in Eastern Europe, there is a more demand to have a solid armored troop carrier in the Army s
arsenal. The Bradley is the right vehicle for the current and possible future threats. The Army wants to
erase the M2A3 BFV from its inventory and replace it with a new and improved fighting vehicle.
Replacing the Bradley without doing an effective cost analysis would be a huge loss to the Army s
budget plan. This would be detrimental especially when the Bradley is not the only vehicle program
the Army is trying to replace. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the rationality behind not
replacing the BFV at this time. Background Between 1950 and 1960, the Army was developing a plan
to transport infantry troops in a specialized armored vehicle. The first transport vehicle was the M113.
This vehicle would transform over the years until 1981 when the Bradley Fighting Vehicle was
introduced into the Army s arsenal. This armored vehicle got its name from a World War II General

The Importance Of Geographic Literacy
Geography, it s not just maps and knowing about landforms. Geography is about a who, what, where,
why and how. It raises awareness of things around the world and provides information about
understanding conflicts and solving them. (Murray, Dr. Matthew) Dr. Edelson points out that, While
the impacts of any particular far reaching decision may be small, the cumulative impact of the
decisions made by millions of people are enormous. ( What is Geo literacy? 2012) Geography is
something all citizens should know about, everyone should be aware of what is happening around
them. The main focus of teaching students how to be geoliterate is so they will know the
consequences resulting from basic decisions. As the curriculum continues to change in schools
throughout the nation, geography has become nonexistent within the classroom. Besides the basic
geographical features, like landforms and oceans, most of this generation knows nothing about
geography. Even sometimes these simple concepts are unreachable for students and many young
adults making them geo illiterate.
Geographic Literacy, as described by Dr. Daniel C. Edelson, has three key concepts; understanding
human and natural systems, geographic reasoning and systematic decision making. He describes a geo
literate student as not only one who understands geography, but one who understands that the Earth is
interconnected and the decisions we make over our lifetime have long lasting effects. They should also
able to comprehend that the relationship between human systems and their interactions and the impact
it puts on our environment. (2012) Another way to describe Geographic Literacy would mean to be
better equipped to better understand the complexity of the world, how our decisions affect others, and
the interconnectedness of this rich, diverse, and not so large world. It means that one should know
what the effects are of the decisions we make daily. (Baskerville, Brian) Regardless of if the decision
is where to live or
Herring 2 how to prepare for natural disasters, everyone makes decisions throughout their lifetime that

want their countries to be developed, and they want to have a good quality of life. Also, they want
their countries to have strong potential economy to compete with other nations. As a result, it is
necessary for the government to work on improving facilities which are the basic foundation of life. In
my opinion, governments should spend more money on improving public transportation, such as

several reasons. The first reason is to encourage people to use public transportation. Right now, many

Eric Schlosser s Fast Food Nation
Fast Food Nation (Assignment #2)
Chapter 1: Eric Schlosser used background information and sympathized on Carl Kartcher for specific
reasons. Schlosser wanted to show the readers that back in the 40s and 50s that fast food was not
nearly what it is today. They were family owned restaurants that spent a lot of time and money on
making the best products possible. Carl was able to start his own barbeque restaurant like he wanted
and it was a success. The sympathy that Schlosser used was to try and get the reader to agree with
him. Sympathy is an effective way to get the reader to agree with you because it deals with emotions
and emotions usually sway a reader to one side of the argument or the other.
Chapter 5: Artificial flavoring and coloring is a great success in the fast food industry because people
like paying for foods that look and taste great, but do not really know what is in it. When Schlosser

Macbeth And Greed
Greed s Manifestation and Destruction of Characters within British Literature The concept of greed
shows itself as the root of the many immoral acts committed in by various roles. These acts in which
was caused by greed, as the Pardoner, from The Canterbury Tales, defines greed s purpose. This
includes how greed pulls them to corruption such for the characters from The Importance of Being
Earnest. Moreover, Judas s betrayal and Macbeth s collapse demonstrate what greed can produce as a
result: destruction and degeneration. Although the characters differ, their obsessions with their
immoral acts possess similar desires. By condemning and demoralizing the characters with many
types of desires, the authors prove that greed is the driving force ... Show more content on

Greed concerns not with wealth only, but also people s obsession with it. For example, the pardoner
acts as if he would sin for it: I mean to have money, wool, and cheese and wheat [...] given me by the
poorest lad (244). In this quote, the pardoner confesses that in order for him to be wealthy and fed, he
would even seize it from one who has the least Chaucer also portrays his egotistical obsession with
wealth, since he would even give up his conscience. Chaucer s works not only explains the greed s
effect but also in the bible. Judas, one of the twelve apostles had asked what he would get for
delivering him to the priests. So the priests paid him thirty pieces of silver And from that time he
sought opportunity to betray him (Mathews26: 15 16). In this scene, Judas received money for the
prize of Jesus; and then he insensitively invests in betraying Jesus for the greed of wealth. Although he
had other reasons to dislike Jesus, the fact that the silver pieces had made him forsake Jesus, it proves
his guilt for having the greed for wealth. This forced both the Pardoner and Judas to lose empathy for
people, as they only care for themselves and materials. It also drives them into addiction and a
destruction of one s mental health, as Judas eventually hangs himself. Furthermore, greed is a force
that allows all types of sins to occur in all

Essay On Gender Expectations In Romeo And Juliet
In the play, Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare both Romeo and Juliet fit into gender
expectations in some ways. Gender roles are stereotypes that males and females fulfill and each of the
same gender is supposed to follow by a courtesy code. Most gender roles are not being followed
anymore as shown by the fact that women like sports as much as men; men can now stay at home and
have the females in the family work. Although Juliet conforms to gender expectations by making
irrational decisions, being childish and depending on others, but in some circumstances, she also
defies them by not listening to her father.
To start with, Juliet is easily swayed into rash decisions without thinking them through. Towards the
beginning of the play, Juliet finds out that Romeo is a Montague. Juliet, at the party, states that her

Near the beginning of the book, after Romeo and Juliet had met, Juliet expresses O Romeo, Romeo!
Wherefore art thou Romeo?/ Deny thy father and refuse thy name./ Or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn

would have about guys nowadays. When Romeo had recently been banished and Tybalt had just been
killed, Juliet is informed of her parents decision to make her marry Paris and she had an extremely
childish and pouty reaction. Now, by Saint Peter s Church, and Peter too, He shall not make me there a
joyful bride. (iii:v 121 122). This shows Juliet portrayed as a pouty girl trying to get her way by
throwing a temper tantrum which is very childish. This portrays Juliet as a childish teenager with
fantasies. Not only is Juliet portrayed as a typical teenage girl who acts very immature she also is a
figure of her time in that she is believed to by her father that she would do whatever he

Examples Of Masculinity In Shakespeare s Plays
In the plays of William Shakespeare, male characters often express their masculinity through their
relationships with other characters. This masculinity often appears through the control they try to force
upon the other characters. In each of Shakespeare s plays, this control appears in various capacities. In
William Shakespeare s histories, conflicting masculinities are presented and the characters, especially
the title heroes, are forced to assert their masculinity. This can be seen in such histories such as Henry
V and Richard III as each of their masculine expressions are challenged by outside forces.
Shakespeare s histories heavily rely on the concept of masculinity through a royal lineage that is
controlled by patriarchal ancestry. This is seen especially in Henry V as Coppella Khan writes that

identity, strengthened by combat, foils that of the Dauphin. Instead of fighting, the Dauphin s gender
identity is often interpreted as feminine. Rebecca Ann Bach writes rather than killing on the
battlefield, the Dauphin expends his energy with women he is active but he does no harm...The
Dauphin s active doing has wasted his body so that he has neither the strength nor the courage to do

Michael Haneke, Caché presents the story of a bourgeois, middle aged French man, George, who

Majid s parents worked in George s house but died in the massacre on 17th Oct., 1961 when the

Analysis Of Starbucks And Wal Mart Essay
Introduction
Sustainability has taken the mainstream corporate world by storm since major companies realized that
sustainability is directly linked to the viability of their long term objectives. As sustainability is proven
to be a motor of efficiency and innovation, stakeholders, investors, employees, and customers are
demanding companies to focus not only on profits but also that those profits should not come at the
expense of people or the planet. Wal Mart and Starbucks have been early adopters of the sustainability
crusade and due to their contrasting approaches towards business have developed two very distinct
sustainability models. This paper will analyze the sustainability systems implemented by Starbucks
and Wal Mart, compare their strategies, elucidate how these organizations have created different
corporate social responsibility systems, and finally determine which one of these approaches would
better support a long term sustainability model.
Analysis
Starbucks and Wal Mart are leaders in their respective industries. Their business models are different
and these differences are in part responsible for their contrasting approaches towards sustainability.
One of the best methods to understand the divergent approaches to sustainability and the triple bottom
line adopted by Starbucks and Wal Mart is by analyzing and comparing the differences in their
mission statements, values, core competencies, and corporate social responsibility systems.

  • 9. Erikson s Stages Of My Life Phrases such as you are turning into your mother or that s so something mom would say/do, have become increasingly more common with each passing year of my life. I have come to accept the fact that not only do my mother and I favor in appearance, but also in many behavioral way as well. My mother recently turned 46, and I chose her as my person of interest because it is the closest I will ever get to interviewing my future self. As well as I know my mother, I have never had the opportunity to analyze her development and her current stage of life. It is amazing what one can learn and take away from a few simple questions when they are based on theory, especially Erikson s. It is clear to see every one of Erikson s stages play out within my mother s life. As a 46 year old woman, she has achieved most all of the beginning stages, such as autonomy and industry, but it was not until after she was married, at age 22, that she gained a more clear and confident identity while she simultaneously worked toward achieving intimacy. Though Erikson believed that one must have a secure self identity before moving onto the next stage, which includes marriage, it is evident in the case of my mother that the relationships she formed after marriage are what makes up the majority of her current identity. In stage seven she developed a mature love and fully found her identity through experiences as a mother and wife. She even went as far as to say that she would have most likely turned ... It s Kill A Mockingbird, By Harper Lee Ilham Abdulkadir Mrs. Rice ENG 2D 18 December 2014 It s a Sin to Kill a Mockingbird Harper Lee s novel To Kill a Mockingbird, is a story that takes place in the south of the U.S in the 1930 s during the time of the great depression when racism was at it s highest. To kill a mockingbird is a story of destroyed innocence where the mockingbird is used to represent the idea of innocence. Harper Lee portrays the theme that it s a sin to kill a mockingbird through Tom Robinson, Arthur Radley and Jeremy Atticus loss of innocence because they are symbolic mockingbirds. Firstly, Tom Robinson is a mockingbird because he is an innocent man convicted of raping a white woman due to the colour of his skin which in turn leads to the loss of his innocence. Atticus was able to make a good defense for Tom by stating the fact that the right side of Mayella s face had suffered severe damage meaning that a person who was left handed most likely attacked her. He goes on to prove that Bob Ewell is left handed while Tom s left hand is disfigured, having taken the oath with the only good arm he possesses his right hand (Lee 273). Although all the evidence proved Tom to be innocent he was still convicted of being guilty, thus stripping him of his innocence. Furthermore, Tom was convicted of being guilty just because he was black and taking the word of a black man over that of a white man was unimaginable. The jury had already found Tom guilty even before the start of the trial because of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The underlying principle of the current/non current method is that assets and liabilities should be translated based on their maturity. Like most individuals during this time, her health status could be considered as good, possibly even excellent. This is a normal trend for young adults. In addition, she started to be surrounded by social support, which is very good for cognitive development. She struggled some with reflective thinking, but as an overall, having social support kept her on her feet when life continued to try to knock her down. While her career was beginning to take off, Ella Fitzgerald was married twice. The first one lasted less than a year as she got a divorce after learning about her husband s criminal record and then the second one was a little bit different. With her second marriage, she loved her husband and wanted to build a life with him, ultimately adopting a son with her husband. Despite her desires, however, her busy career as a jazz singer got in the way and they were divorced six years later. These life events go with Erikson s theory of intimacy versus isolation. She never quite figured out the concept of intimacy in a long term relationship, at least not enough to be successful in this theory. • 17. Comparison Of Masaccio And Raphael s The Holy Trinity ... Perspective plays an important role in understanding Masaccio s frescos. Masaccio was born in 1401 and died unfortunately young in 1428. His full birth name is Tommasio di Ser Giovanni de Simone. He made a great contribution to Italian and Florentine art during the Quattrocento period of the Italian Renaissance. He worked alongside Filippo Brunelleschi an Italian architect and engineer. Together they created the idea of linear perspective with the influence of earlier artists such as Lorenzetti, Duccio and Giotto brothers. Linear perspective helps to form the impression of a three dimensional space on a completely flat surface. This essay will compare The Holy Trinity (fig. 1) by Masaccio and Raphael s The School of Athens (fig. 2). Both Masaccio and Raphael use linear perspective in their paintings to create a sense of depth and realism. The Holy Trinity (fig. 1) was a fresco painting created in 1428. It is currently in the Dominican church of Santa Maria Novella, in Florence and was believed to have been commissioned by the Domenico Lenzi and his wife. It is both a religious and secular painting. It portrays the Trinity of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Ghost, which is symbolized by a white dove. Masaccio uses a scientific approach by creating an illusion of space within the painting. Secondly, refactoring cannot be done for the processes with less delivery time, this is because refactoring requires considerable amount of time for testing. Thirdly, the refactoring process fails even though it does not alter the behavior of the program. This time the council is proposing reviewing the timetables of a number of bus services in and around Witney, but also other rural areas of the County. I can t comment on services in other neighbourhoods, but our 18 and 19 routes are for many people a lifeline. For the elderly, unemployed, disabled and youths buses are the one and only form of transport available to them to get them into the main business centres of Witney and Oxford. The council is proposing reducing these services from hourly to two hourly. If you have opened the consultation papers online you would have noticed that this would save the council at most under £200,000 a sum which is insignificant in the annual transport budget of just over £53 million, but one with severe repercussions for many. The view of the Green Party is simple. We can t justify the existence of public services just on the basis of a crude income and expenditure analysis. In the instance of transport a proper cost benefit analysis should take into account matters such as benefit to the environment, sustainability and overall services distribution. In this context reducing buses in rural areas would clearly make no sense whatsoever. Countless previous examples ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hence, local authorities, on the one hand, have the responsibilities to carry the PARs to the people who are at risk (Basher, 2006; Lindell and Perry, 2012), whereas risk area households response efforts, on the other hand, would rely on the guidance of officials PARs (Baker 1991, 1995; Huang et al. in press a; Lin et al. 2014). The Bradley Fighting Vehicle (BFV) versus the Future Fighting Vehicle (FFV) Programs MSG Torry Rice United States Army Sergeants Major Academy Class 67 Mr. Madera Introduction In the past 15 years, the battlefield has been in the open desert and urban environments. The geographical locations where the United States have fought their wars have had a demand for armored troop vehicles. The Bradley Fighting Vehicle (BFV) has met and exceeded that demand since 1981. With the possible new threat in Eastern Europe, there is a more demand to have a solid armored troop carrier in the Army s arsenal. The Bradley is the right vehicle for the current and possible future threats. The Army wants to erase the M2A3 BFV from its inventory and replace it with a new and improved fighting vehicle. Replacing the Bradley without doing an effective cost analysis would be a huge loss to the Army s budget plan. It raises awareness of things around the world and provides information about understanding conflicts and solving them. (Murray, Dr. Matthew) Dr. Edelson points out that, While the impacts of any particular far reaching decision may be small, the cumulative impact of the decisions made by millions of people are enormous. ( What is Geo literacy? 2012) Geography is something all citizens should know about, everyone should be aware of what is happening around them. The main focus of teaching students how to be geoliterate is so they will know the consequences resulting from basic decisions. As the curriculum continues to change in schools throughout the nation, geography has become nonexistent within the classroom. Besides the basic geographical features, like landforms and oceans, most of this generation knows nothing about geography. Even sometimes these simple concepts are unreachable for students and many young adults making them geo illiterate. Geographic Literacy, as described by Dr. Daniel C. Edelson, has three key concepts; understanding human and natural systems, geographic reasoning and systematic decision making. He describes a geo literate student as not only one who understands geography, but one who understands that the Earth is interconnected and the decisions we make over our lifetime have long lasting effects. They should also able to comprehend that the relationship between human systems and their interactions and the impact it puts on our environment. (2012) Another way to describe Geographic Literacy would mean to be better equipped to better understand the complexity of the world, how our decisions affect others, and the interconnectedness of this rich, diverse, and not so large world. It means that one should know what the effects are of the decisions we make daily. (Baskerville, Brian) Regardless of if the decision is where to live or Herring 2 how to prepare for natural disasters, everyone makes decisions throughout their lifetime that requires geo literacy. • 36. Essay On Gender Expectations In Romeo And Juliet In the play, Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare both Romeo and Juliet fit into gender expectations in some ways. Gender roles are stereotypes that males and females fulfill and each of the same gender is supposed to follow by a courtesy code. Most gender roles are not being followed anymore as shown by the fact that women like sports as much as men; men can now stay at home and have the females in the family work. Although Juliet conforms to gender expectations by making irrational decisions, being childish and depending on others, but in some circumstances, she also defies them by not listening to her father. To start with, Juliet is easily swayed into rash decisions without thinking them through. Towards the beginning of the play, Juliet finds out that Romeo is a Montague. • 37. Examples Of Masculinity In Shakespeare s Plays In the plays of William Shakespeare, male characters often express their masculinity through their relationships with other characters. This masculinity often appears through the control they try to force upon the other characters. In each of Shakespeare s plays, this control appears in various capacities. In William Shakespeare s histories, conflicting masculinities are presented and the characters, especially the title heroes, are forced to assert their masculinity. This can be seen in such histories such as Henry V and Richard III as each of their masculine expressions are challenged by outside forces.
