Closed Loop System
Ernestine Brown

Module 6 DQ2: When viewing a team as a closed loop system, each member becomes dependent
on the next. How does this dependency influence the dynamics of a team, specifically from a
systems perspective?
One of the disadvantages of working within a closed loop system is that when a part of the system
is not performing, it affects the dynamics of the entire teams. For instance, a thermostat works with
a furnace to control room temperature is a perfect example of a closed loop system (Stead, Gregg,
Jirjis, 2011). The objective of the thermostat is to control the desired organization/homeroom
temperature. When the adjustment panel that turns the system off and on malfunction, it directly
impacts the entire room temperature. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In academic institutions, when a student of the project underperforms, it impacts the entire student
class body. According to Grand Canyon University(2013) research, closed loop system interdepend
on each system, they complement, shared, and learn from each other. A closed loop system team
interacts with a learning organization through the deliverables, the daily involvement in the
process, and the involvement of an active working leader. Mujtaba and Thomas (2005) asserted that
values driven management is one critical application of the system thinking paradigm where
decisions are analyzed regarding its total impact from a holistic approach. Learning closed loop
systems and applying systems thinking concept is a critical leadership and organizational skill
necessary in a learning organization (Mujtaba and Thomas, 2005). Leaders should search for means
to deal with workplace complexity because, it natural for them to turn to the foundations and
practices of systems theory, to see the impact of each generation on the success of learning
organizations, to effectively maneuver through the changing landscape (Mujtaba and Thomas,

Social Media And Its Impact On Public Sector
Literature Review
Social media provides the voice, in other words, social network and media connect company or
organisation with its audience. Nowadays, social networking plays a significant role in any
organisation. It is much easier for private sector to be linked with the social media, rather than for
public sector. Public sector includes all organisations, which are owned or operated by the
government, and exist to provide services to citizens (PrivacySense.net, n.d.). Waste management
and recycling is one of the components of public sector.
Social technologies, Web 2.0, Gov 2.0.
For today, government organisations and agencies slowly increase use of social media channels;
only now it got obvious for them, that there is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, it can be suggested for waste management company to use Twitter and Facebook as a
primary social media platforms for external communications, in order to communicate with
citizens on day to day basis and keep them updated. As for internal communications within the
company, the best is to use LinkedIn, so employees can be aware of what is going on in the
company, and build a relationship with each other. Furthermore, the term, such as Gov 2.0, has to
be mentioned. Government 2.0 (Gov 2.0) can be described as the use of information technology
(IT) to commoditise and socialise government services and processes (DiMaio, 2009). When Gov
2.0 and Web 2.0 works together, it has a positive impact on the link between public sector
organisation, government, and citizens.
The importance and purpose of social digital tools in waste management sector
Waste management and recycling services have been using the traditional tools of communication
to reach the audience, such as print advertisement, brochures and flyers. Through out the time the
way to do business and communicate with audience has changed, as the digital technology become
more advance. These changes have affected all the industry, including the waste and recycling
sector. It seems that organization within this sector have been always putting the importance of
digital technologies and opportunities of social media on the back burner. However, the

A Streetcar Named Desire Character Analysis Essay
A Streetcar Named Desire written by Tennessee Williams portrayed a dynamic character named
Blanche as a nervous wreck, fragile, southern lady who has a tragic downfall in the end of this play.
Throughout this play, Williams develops her character traits though her past and background that
defines her soft, spoken language, her personality to those around her, and her past that affected
her so deeply that she has nowhere to find herself again. Her soft spoken language stands out from
her persona as she meets her sister in New Orleans. For example, when Blanche tells her
sister,Stella, about the lossof Belle Revelike as, ...I stayed at Belle Reve and tried to hold it

the boy I had married and an older man who had been for his friend for years...suddenly in the
middle of the dance the boy I had married broke away from me and ran out of the casino...a few

about her lover affair and in the end where the boy suicide deeply affected her heart. In addition, as
she explains her story to Mitch as the way of why she couldn t actually love anyone anymore about
how heavy her heart is especially the short romance with Mitch throughout the play. As well,
throughout the whole play she hang on to the letters and sang the Polka song when they were

Patriarchy Or A Silent Feminist, By William Faulkner
Patriarchy or a silent feminist, in the 1931 short story by William Faulkner patriarchy was the
way of life, men are the dominate gender and women submissive. According to Sweeting DeCaro
patriarchy is most men and (some) women believe that anyone who violates traditional gender
roles in some way is unnatural, unhealthy and even immoral . (2016) Emily is among some of
them, but this is a feminist waiting to challenge the social, traditional, perception of gender roles.

more or less . (pp. 305 306) Therefore, patriarch status transferred to her, because she was the
only one living within the household, without a husband and a job she very well could have
been without a place to live. Due to this act and because of her family, social standing she could
continue her upper class life style image remaining in her home. Addition proof the author

Grierson . (p. 306). Further, proof of her battle and soon emerging feminist, she visited by the
authorities from the city about an odor coming from her home and again when they wanted her to
pay taxes she dismissed them both times. This was not the character of women; boldly dismiss a
man, especially a man of authority, this was not done during the time in which she lived. Further
evidence of this point is I have no taxes in Jefferson. Tobe! The Negro appeared. Show these

According to Section 69A blocking of internet site can take place only by a clear and reasoned

Every year if not every day we have to wager our salvation upon some prophecy based upon

Even though attractive, the idea is highly optimistic because of the fact that there is no concrete

How to Teach during a Tragegy
There was nothing about leaving the school where I taught in New Orleans on Friday afternoon,
August 27, 2005, that led me to believe I wouldn t see most of my colleagues and students ever
again. Bye, see you Monday! I called out to them. On the drive home, I heard weather reports
about a hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico and thought to myself, It probably won t affect New
Orleans. By Saturday, forecasters said the possibility of the storm making landfall near New
Orleans had increased, but I still wasn t alarmed; my family and I were more concerned about
attending a Saints preseason football game in the Superdome along with thousands of other New
Orleanians that night. The predictions for the hurricane hitting New Orleans became more ominous
on Sunday, causing the mayor of our city to order a mandatory evacuation for all residents. My
family reluctantly evacuated the city as we had done so many times before for other hurricanes,
none of which had been devastating. Much like when I left schoolon Friday, there was nothing
about leaving New Orleans that Sunday that led me to think I would never see my home again.
It became clear by Monday that New Orleans would suffer a near direct hit by a hugely intensified
Hurricane Katrina. Although our city largely withstood the fierce winds and rains brought by the
Category 5 storm, it ultimately fell to the flooding that resulted when an aging levee system
breached, resulting in 80% of the city being underwater, up to 20

Examples Of Superpowers In Unbreakable
Many kids were asked when they were little who their hero was. The same kids would answer with
their elders, never with a fictional superhero. A superhero is defined as a benevolent fictional
character with superhuman powers, such as Superman. The argument of the movie, Unbreakable,
directed by M. Night Shyamalan, is whether or not David Dunne has superpowers. Dunne is
considered to have superpowers due to his extreme capability of strength. Dunne has miraculous
strength in situations involving life or death. This is first apparent to viewers when Dunne appears
in the hospital after a high speed train crash. Dunne is shown as the only survivor. It becomes
apparent that he is unusual from this point on. He survived through grace. Ironically,... Show more

He was put into the hospital after almost drowning at a young age. He did not fully drown, but
he almost did drown. Elijah also has the same experience with water. Water is viewed as a
weakness for both the unbreakable David Dunne and the clumsy Elijah Price.By realizing his
own identity, he uncovered Price s villainous acts of terrorism. Price has been looking for Dunne
since his mother first gave him his collector s edition of a comic book. Price argues a valid point
when he says however unreal it may seem, we are connected, you and I. We re on the same
curve, just on opposite ends. After Price falls down the subway stairs on a rainy day and breaks
a magnitude of bones, Dunne s weakness of water is revealed at the school. After he takes Price
s advice, he is seen walking through the rain to help a family. He is seen as a cloaked figure,
trying to preserve his powers. Dunne is then pushed onto a pool cover, of all things. He is
struggling to save himself when the children of the family help pull him out. He is frail at that
point in time. He goes back inside where it s dry and all of his strength is

Apollinarianism Research Paper

Apollinarianism
Konstantin Martynyuk
Theology 154: Faith, Justice the Catholic Tradition
April 5, 2017
Apollinarius was the bishop of Laodicea who developed the heretical position concerning the nature
of Christ. Originally, a supporter of orthodoxy against the Arians, his Christological teaching
becomes a heresy among scholars, at a synod in Rome in 374 380 and by the Council of
Constantinople in 381. The primary opponents of Apollinarius were Athanasius, the Cappadocian
Fathers (the two Gregories), and Epiphanius. В¬ The Church Fathers sought to defend themselves
against Apollinarius s teaching, especially when referring to the Incarnation. His Christology,
Apollinarism, denied the existence in Christ of a rational ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

However, when talking about the Incarnation, Apollinarius strays from the orthodox perception of
Christ and says that he has only one true (divine) nature. In accord with Church teaching,
Apollinarius believed that Jesus Christ has fully redeemed humanity. He is the only mediator
between God and man, a fact which led Apollinarius to maintain that if God were a unity, Christ
himself must be a unity. If the divine element was simply united with mankind, we would have
two sons, one of God by nature and the other by adoption. With this the flesh of Christ is not
added to divinity but establishes one nature with the God. The Treatise Against Apollinarius, or
better known by its Latin title, Antirrheticus, was created by Gregory of Nyssa to challenge this
heretic teachings of Apollinarius. St. Gregory of Nyssa wrote two works during the 380s
opposing the teachings of not just Apollinarius but his followers as well. Moving forward, the
Incarnation showed that a physical body was joined with the divine logos. Looking back to an
assigned reading from earlier in the semester, in the Gospel of John, the passage says The Word
became flesh and made his dwelling among us. (John 1:14) Apollinarius interpreted this as the
logos taking on flesh without assuming a human mind, the source of evil. For Apollinarius, the
logos was the sole life of Jesus even down to the physical level. He thereby constitutes one living
unity in which the soul directs and the body

The Pros And Cons Of The Taliban
The Taliban is an Islamic fundamentalist political movement . It spread throughout Afghanistan and
formed a government, ruling as the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan from September 1996 until

Elementary education of children, mostly girls, was shut down in Kabul, where nearly all of the
elementary school teachers were women. One of the biggest atrocities that the Taliban has
continually inflicted upon women is depriving them of an education. The Taliban has gone to
extreme and brutal lengths to not only prevent women from going to school but to punish those
who do. In Mingora, Pakistan the Taliban had set an edict that no girls could attend school after
January 15, 2009. The group had already blown up more than a hundred girls schools. As a child,

Significance Of Uncle Sam
I want YOU for US army
The red, white and blue colored poster with a man named Uncle Sam in front of it, is the most

the American government. But how did the image become so representative for the American
people? And who is the person behind this iconic image that still is an iconic symbol to the
American government?

and found it a waste of his time. James Montgomery was married to Nellie McCormick. With his
wife, James Montgomery has lived in Florida, California and Virginia. He tried to become a

citizen while he is respected but he isn t on the same level as Holmes. He is also respected for

brilliant detective who is often troubled and socially awkward with people. He also deals with
psychological noise with the fact that he sees everything he call it both a gift and a curse at the
same time. Holmes and Watson both have different degrees of perceived self and presenting
self. In Watson case his is more concerned with his presenting self than Sherlock is (C. M. Shaw
R. Edwards, 1997). This can be seen in several cases in the movie when Watson is going to meet
his Fiancee s parents for teat he is both concerned and worried with how they will perceive him.
He is also concerned with how Mary , who is Watson Fiancee, will perceive Sherlock and his
relationship with him. While Sherlock isn t concerned with how the world around him perceives
him nor does he try to change or alter his appearance to suit others. In his case he has constructed
several different identities these can be seen in several scenes within the movies. When Sherlock
interacts with Watson he is friendly, open ,and engaged he has about the same type of identity with
Irene Adler though he is open and often flirtatious though he is very careful about what information

Prelude and The Wasteland by T.S. Elliot
In our daily lives, we are too busy to do the things that we always want to do. So, we live lives of
boring repetition. However, we have become adjusted to it so almost none of us complain. T.S.
Eliot was born in St. Louis, Missouri and eventually moved to London, England. Extremely well
educated, Eliot wrote many highly praised poems. For example, The Waste Landwas assembled out
of dramatic vignettes based on Eliot s London life. Another poem, Preludes, talks about the daily
lives of people where it starts off simple, but leads into something deeper than everyday life.
Three reasons why I relate to Preludes by T.S. Eliot are evenings, mornings, and spiritually. In
Preludes by T.S Eliot, a city is being described by all the things that happen in the evening. The
smell of steaks is everywhere. When this poem was composed, steaks were inexpensive and
were commonly eaten by members of the lower class. I can relate to this part of the poem
because my family cooks steaks and my town calms down in the way that the city being described
does. The poem then goes on to describe how a gusty shower wraps the grimy scraps of withered
leaves about your feet and newspapers from vacant lots. The streetsare gross and unattractive and
the street lights flicker on and off. Parts of Worland have grimy looking streets and houses like this
city does. A lonely cab horse chugs along the darkened streets. I believe that part of the poem is
telling us that life is empty at night and everything

A Role of Ethics and Social Responsibilities in Management.
Ethics can be defined as a process of evaluating actions according to moral principal of
values(A.Alhemoud). Throughout the centuries people were trying to choose between profit and
moral. Perhaps, some of them obtain both, but every time it could have roused ethical issues. Those
issues concern fairness, justice, rightness or wrongness; as a result it can only be resolved

Military Rank And Inequality
Felicia Severy ANTH 484 Professor Mary Nolan Rough Draft Military Rank and Inequality
Introduction Inequality within the military is not a new concept. Gender inequality is
particularly well known and everyone is familiar with the concept of military rank; benefits
increase as rank increases. Lower ranking military service personnel receive smaller, lower
quality base houses, are expected to work longer hours, receive less BAH (Basic Allowance for
Housing) regardless of family size, and may not receive all of the support services entitled to
them. How does the rank of an enlisted member impact his or her family? Does inequality within
the ranks have an affect on morale and/or quality of life? Is rank inequality acceptable to military
families? Literature Review Inequality in the Military: An Examination of Promotion Time for
Black and White Enlisted Men (Butler 1976) asserts that black enlisted men are subject to racism
during promotion time. When all things are equal between a black and white military member,
black personnel take longer to move up in rank. Thus, black military personnel are subject to
inequality. Widening health inequalities among U.S. military retirees since 1974 (Edwards 2008)
concludes that health inequality has been widening between the years of 1974 and 2004. Military
retirees experience inequality in life... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Detoxified conjugates polyhexamethylene guanidine hydrochloride (PHMG H) and
polyhexamethylene guanidine phosphate (PHMG P) are created by incorporating different anions
into its structure and display the property of high solubility in water. In comparison to PHMG
hydrochloride, PHMG phosphate has a stronger bacteriastatic action with the respect to some
strains and has a high threshold of skin irritating, neurotoxic and chronic affects. PHMG
phosphate is odorless, colorless and non corrosive (Kuznetsov, 2004). PHMG H was widely tested
in vivo and in vitro (Rosin et al., 2001, Rosin et al., 2002, Welk et al., 2005, Muller and Kramer,

College Drinking Essay
College Drinking
I would agree with the research. Before coming to college I never drank. I had friends who drank
alcohol and have been around it a lot. I always said I don t think I would ever drink alcohol. I didn
t have anything against it, I just felt as though it wasn t for me.
Starting college was a great experience for me. I ve meet many people who I have built
relationships with, and I ve noticed how different people can be from you. A lot of the people
who I hung with in college drank alcohol when we went to parties. I would go to the parties, but I

everyone enjoying themselves influenced me to try it. I would say the party environment ... Show

The labeling theory is a theory that describes how the self identity and behavior of individuals
may be determined or influenced by the terms people use to describe or classify them (Mead,
2008). I feel as though labeling can be categorized with stereotyping. I don t see how they are
different from each other because you are putting a label on someone because of their actions.
There is some positivity with assigning someone a diagnosis of of a psychological disorder. For
instance living life not knowing about a disorder may be causing harm to your body. Going through
life without be aware is also cutting out the opportunity to get help for the problem occurring. So
knowing about it can help in the long run.
Some negative aspects when labeling someone with psychological disorders would be that a
person may not be viewed for who they are but, what their diagnosis is. Individuals may be
looked at negatively and their positive attributes are most likely to be looked passed. Another
negative aspect would be that medications may come with serious side effects that can do harm to
a person s health. All medications are known to have side effects. Stimulants that are commonly
used by individuals with ADHD may cause insomnia, suppressed appetite and growth, and other
side effects that can affect child and adolescent development. An individual who is diagnosed with
a psychological problem may be treated differently because of their label. It may be worse for
children because they have yet to develop their

Why Become A Cardiologist
Have you ever wanted to help someone that was hurt or unable to heal on their own? Have you
ever felt the need to assist in saving someone s life? That s what I would love to accomplish when I
grow up and I believe that cardiology would be the best fit for me! Cardiology has always been a
part of me in certain ways. When I was younger, I would always say that I would wish to be a
cop or a soldier within the army, but then again what eight year old boy didn t say that. As I began
to grow physically and mentally, my view of the world became much more transparent, and I began
to lean towards the profession of cardiology. From there, leaning lead to believing, and that s where

In addition to the circumstances that I had, there are other reasonings as to why cardiology
intrigues me. My second reason as to why I would like to become a cardiologist is the fact that I
would be able to lend a hand to people and charities. If that doesn t appeal to your brain, then let
me break it down for you. If I were to become a cardiologist, then I would help save lives, but I
would also acquire a high salary. The average salary of a well worked and well payed
cardiologist would be around the sum of 300 thousand dollars! With such a massive source of
income, I could relinquish my profits within charities with the greatest needs. That way, I could
help multitudes of people in need. Needless to say, due to the immense income I would be
receiving, I would be able to do more than just donate to charities and work in a hospital for I
would be able to set up free clinics and put my time and effort into important causes. That way I
can be satisfied whilst at work and in free time with the effort I would put in. That is just one other

Abstract:
In this experiment the main objective was going to look at the microstructure of the composites
from the fishing rod with in angle, transverse and longitudinal. By using the microscope and within
different scale to see the fiber and the epoxy. And will find out in different cut the effect to the
volume fraction, and to prove why transverse cut is the only option for the calculation
Introduction
Composites, is a material that made with two or more different material. People can see or use it
anytime, anywhere. Composite materials can provide different advantages from mixing different
materials, and usually combined metal (aluminum), polymers (epoxy) or ceramic (silicon). One
of the most common example for the composites will be fishing rod. Nowadays fishing rod
usually make with glass fiber/ carbon fiber and epoxy. Which glass fiber or carbon fiber are brittle
but strong, and epoxy can provide a high mechanical properties. Result of the fishing rod can be
have a better toughness, and lightweight. Because of that in this lab, the main objective is going to
use the optical microscopy and find out the fiber s alignment, the structure pattern and the
mechanical properties from the fishing rod.
Experiment:
In this lab, we were required to test multiple samples of the fishing rod, which they were already
polished. First we have to set up the computer

Similarities Between Roger And Me By Emile Durkheim
General Motors, booming and blooming, the largest corporation in the world took place in
Flint, Michigan. For so long, GM was a major function of the community socially and
economically. Suddenly, General Motors CEO Roger Smith took action, then terminated several
plantations in Flint as well as thousands of jobs. For this reason, Michael Moore made it his
mission to record the consequences of closing the GM plants in Flint. As well as his quest to
talk to the GM chairman, Roger Smith, in the movie Roger and Me. In this essay, using
Durkheim s perspective and Roger and Me, we will analyze how the division of labor can
functionally shape a society within a certain period of time. Significantly, Emile Durkheim was one
of the three major theoretical thinkers of sociology. In effect, the functionalism perspective derives
from the analyses of Emile Durkheim. The functionalist perspective is molded by different parts
working together. As an expert in studying the social phenomenon, Durkheim, in his book The
Divisions of Labor in Society (1893), argued that a society alters from mechanical to organic as it
becomes more complex. (Fraling, p80)... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Portrayal Of Other Cultures In The Movie Sam
In many texts and movies it is seen, but not closely looked at, on how foreigners are portrayed in
major works. In the movie Sam is referred to by Ilsa as boy and many people would not catch
that the first time watching it. One would mistake it as her disrespecting him but I honestly think
that as a society we are not educated. As a society we are not educated enough. A common
problem is this haste towards other cultures because of the past and stereotyping. Even though the
Japanese did bad things we did too but we seem to have a smoldering resentment towards them
by the younger generation who did not even fight in the war (Bradley 329). Ilsa has always lived

When this is not the case it always seems as a surprise like oh so you speak spanish which
always confuses me, is it not normal to speak another language? I ve heard from a close friend
that she was ashamed to admit that she speaks another language just because she was afraid that
she would be made fun of. They would watch and hear people speak another language and her
classmates would laugh, so I don t blame her for her thinking. This is so disappointing, because
this was only a decade ago. It is almost contradicting that we want more variety in schools but if
we are not letting a variety of people in the country then how is that even possible. We currently
have a travel ban for most of the countries in the Middle East and basically everywhere in South
America. Also for many years Americans had threatened discriminatory immigration bills
against yellow Japanese because they still held a grudge on them (Bradley 71). As a society we
should be more accepting of others and not be so narrow minded. We should have days where
we explore other people s cultures because eventually we will come in contact with other people
different than us. Part of the reason why we are so narrow minded is we are not educated and
when you are educated you become more intelligent on these matters. It is fine to be different and
it is acceptable to look different, and talk different and we should not get treated differently because

Plate Reactionics And Plate Tectonics
Plate tectonics, plate tectonics are a theory explaining the structure of the earth and rarely resulting
in the interaction of stiff lithospheric plates that move slowly over the lurking mantle below. Plate
tectonics has been around for about 3.2 million years, and still continues now. What does it do?
Well plate tectonicsare several plates that skim the top of the mantleВґs bumpy interior layer on top
of the core. The plates act like a solid and stiff frame in comparison to earth s mantle. The outer
layer of the earth is called the lithosphere; the lithosphere is the strongest, toughest layer of the
earth. Plate tectonics are a stylish way of continental drift. Continental drift is an assumption of the
continents once moving around earth created by Alfred Wegener. Although we don t physically
observe plate tectonics happening, it has definitely affected many things, created many things, and
destroyed many things. Over time we see what plate tectonics have done. I am going to be
explaining how plate tectonics have shaped volcanoes, how plate tectonics has shaped mountains
and also how it has constructed earthquakes. Usually when the plates being forced together or
being yanked volcanos are being formed. Have you ever noticed how volcanoes usually take place
in the same spot as earthquakes? When the tectonic plates move apart from each other, burning hot
magma rises and fills the empty areas in between. When the tectonic plates become one, one of the

Extremely low and high temperatures can slow down the development of societies and
civilizations greatly. If you are living in a place with temperatures similar to the ones of The
Arctic, you will obviously have a lot of harvesting problems because of the cold and all the snow
covering the ground. Also, problems with getting around and working hard because it is too
cold to leave your home and go out are very probable. Going out to work in conditions like these,
can leave people dead or very sick with things like hypothermia. On the other hand, extreme
heats, like in places close to the equator, also slow development for very similar reasons. People
struggle to leave their houses because of extreme heat dangers like getting deep burns or even
things like skin cancer from the sun s UV rays, and may also have harvesting problems because
of how dry it is. Land forms and geography can also have an impact on the development of
societies and civilizations. If you live in an area with a lot of bodies of water, you will be granted
with things like fertile soil, easy transportation, abundant food and water supply, more animals to
hunt (fishing) and much better hygiene than for example a place in the middle of the desert. Your
geography is very important to a stable society

Most slave owners were not so brutal, but they were not distant from the behavior. They had to

and without limitations man was bound to exercise the power. Slavery not only affected the
male slave owners but the women also. Mrs. Auld wasn t raised with slaves, She has been in a

In the NFL s first fourteen seasons, a grand total of thirteen African Americans got to play
football professionally. In 1920, only two black men played, then nine in 1925, but back down
to two in 1933. To play football professionally, an individual had to attend college where he
would have played football for his school, and once his college career came to an end, he would

Curley and Slim in Of Mice and Men
Of Mice and Men , written by John Steinbeck, is a novel set in 1930s California and tells the

looking for work during the Great Depression. This novel is set while George and Lennie are in
a small working ranch in the Salinas Valley of northern California, and over a period of 3 days
we are introduced to a variety of characters that also live on the ranch. This essay will show how

Steinbeck says that Slim is the prince of the ranch and that he moved with a majesty only
achieved by royalty. Steinbeck s deliberate use of the word prince instantly shows us that Slim is
the usurper of Curley s position: Curley, as the son of the king of the ranch should, technically,
be known as the prince , yet Slim has been accepted as this. Steinbeck uses the Stetson hat to
show Slim s status, as the hat symbolises a crown. We begin to get an understanding of why
Curley is jealous of Slim; Slim is everything Curley wishes to be. Steinbeck always talks of Slim
with dignity, majesty and respect, and manages to show how talented he is by using an
ascending tri colon to talk about Slims difficult job as a jerkline skinner. He was capable of
driving ten, sixteen, even twenty mules with a single line to the leaders. This heightens the
impressiveness of Slims skilled work, and could be interpreted as Slim was a hard worker, who
had achieved his authoritative position by being skilled at the hardest job on the farm. However,
Steinbeck could also be saying that the mules represent the ranchers, and that Slim is able to
control and lead all the ranchers using the littlest force possible, as opposed to Curleys harsh and
more physical attempts at controlling them. Steinbeck also says there was gravity in his [Slims]
manner. The use of the word gravity is interesting because it could be perceived as saying that his
manner was serious and solemn, but on the

The Effects Of Poverty In Hunger Of Memory
Poverty displays itself as the undeniable reality of what our society displays that needs to stop so
that future generations do not become forced to live the terrible life it manifests. Poverty is an
international problem that has the potential to end if individuals work together to care enough. In
Hunger of Memory, Richard Rodriguez explains the struggles of a Mexican American student in
poverty that expresses his hunger to become a writer and a teacher one day. In contrast, in Nora
Ephrons The Boston Photographs the families that appear in the photographs display tiredness of
how they have the ability to live in poverty. While a long time period separates these two pieces
of work, both discuss families that appear to struggle due to the effects of poverty in their
everyday lives. However, whereas Rodriquez illustrates the willpower and hunger to want to move
on from his lifestyle that he lives and overcome his impoverish state, Ephron demonstrates how
families in The Boston Photographs want to end their lives since they will have nothing else due to
their state of poverty. The first differencebetween the two pieces of works is that the hope that
reoccurs throughout the essay. In Hunger of Memory, Richard Rodriguez stresses his love of
language and his development as a writer and a teacher. Rodriguez strives to better his educationso
that he can go further in life. Individuals continually stress that nowadays one can go extremely far
with an education; however,

How Did Andrew Jackson Affect The Economy
Andrew Jackson was the seventh President of the United States from 1829 1837. Jackson was
popularized as general in the War of 1812 and defeated the British troops at New Orleans in 1815.
During his presidency, he opposed the Bank of America, fought the rights of individual states, and
increased presidential authority. Jackson won over Southerners with his support of State s rights,
Westerners with his promise to build roads and canals and end the Second National Bank, and
Northerners, since he would limit the Federal government s role in the economy. His voters were
common people such as small farmers and frontier settlers.
One of his first controversial efforts was the enactment of the Tariff of Abominations, which was

Many of the people as well as Jackson believed that the bank favored the wealthy and the elite.
Andrew Jackson had made clear his constitutional objections to and personal antagonism toward
the bank. He believed it concentrated too much economic power in the hands of the elite beyond
the public s control. The banks president, Nicholas Biddle, applied for a new charter in 1832
shortly before the old charter was going to expire, successfully ensuring that the bank would be a
hot issue in the 1832 presidential election. Jackson vetoed the bill and won the election. He
blocked the deposit in the bank of government funds. Biddle fought back by calling in loans, which
sparked a credit crisis. The Bank War augmented the power of the Executive branch over the

Happy Loman
The title of the book is Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller. Miller s nationality is American.
The book was published in 1949.
The book takes place in the late 1940 s Brooklyn, Boston, and Manhattan.
The play s entirety takes place over the course of 24 hours. It s about the life of Willy Loman, a
traveling salesman, and the issues that he goes through with his family. He s a big dreamer and
wants better things out of life, but things don t go his way. He continues along with all these bad
things and arguments with his family until he kills himself.
Willy Loman is a salesman who wants nothing more than the typical American Dream of riches,
success, and luxury but never gets that. He doesn t get along with his family considering they
complain he is never home and he doesn t think his kids will be successful in their lives. He s a
very insecure character who lets things get the better of him, and as reality ... Show more content on

The Woman is not a major character but still important as she is Willy s mistress who Biff caught
his father sleeping with. That drove Biff to lose respect for his father and not want to do much with
his life.
The diamonds are a symbol of the wealth that Willy so badly craved but never received. It was
seen as the quickest way to be rich and solve all their problems. The hose that his wife found is a
foreshadowing of Willy s suicide, with attempts on the bridge and inhaling gas. The stockings
were a reminder of Willy s affair with The Woman and how he failed to please and respect his
family.
Both flashbacks and foreshadowing are shown often in the book. The flashbacks are used so the
reader/audience knows the life before the play, considering it s only during one day. The
foreshadowing, including the rubber hose and Willy driving off a bridge, foreshadows Willy s

Shakespeare s Hamlet
Hamlet: The Character of Ophelia
Concerning the Ophelia of Shakespeare s tragic drama Hamlet, is she an innocent type or not? Is
she a victim or not? This essay will explore these and other questions related to this character.
Rebecca West in A Court and World Infected by the Disease of Corruption viciously, and perhaps
unfoundedly, attacks the virginity of Ophelia:
There is no more bizarre aspect of the misreading of Hamlet s character than the assumption that his
relations with Ophelia were innocent and that Ophelia was a correct and timid virgin of exquisite
sensibilities. . . . She was not a chaste young woman. That is shown by her tolerance of Hamlet s
obscene conversations, which cannot be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He dismisses Hamlet s overtures as Affection, puh! Polonius considers Ophelia a green girl,
incapable of recognizing true love: These blazes . . . you must not take for fire. He gets her
assurance that she will not talk with Hamlet anymore.
When the ghost talks privately to Hamlet, he learns not only about the murder of his father, but
also about the unfaithfulness and adultery of his mother. Gertrude was seduced by that incestuous,
that adulterate beast,/With witchcraft of his wit, with traitorous gifts Claudius himself prior to his
brother s passing. So lust, though to a radiant angel link d,/Will sate itself in a celestial bed,/And
prey on garbage. In the mind of Hamlet, this drastically reduces the goodness of womankind
generally. Hamlet chooses to use an antic disposition to disguise his actions as he maneuvers to kill
the one who poisoned his father in the garden. Wilkie and Hurt say that Shakespeare is particularly
fond of double plotting (2156).
Ophelia is shortly affected by the protagonist s mad conduct. And immediately she goes to her
father, Polonius, to explain how she is so affrighted as a result of Hamlet s visit:
My lord, as I was sewing in my closet,
Lord Hamlet, with his doublet all unbraced;

The Role Of Nudity In The Rolling Stone Magazine
The narrative in the world and America especially, is constantly changing and the line between
appropriate and inappropriate seems to be constantly shifting. The cover image of Julia Louis
Dreyfus in the Rolling Stone magazine is a prime example, of how the use of nudity in the cover
reveals the twisted narrative in American society and entertainment. To have a comprehensive
understanding of the cover and what it signifies, background knowledge on the publishers and the

It is now so deeply integrated in our society that a piece of entertainment loses its value when nudity
is not present in some form. With all this nudity floating around, one may ask what role does it
play in displaying the message of the image. Nudity itself is a challenging ideology to our
society, the line between appropriate vs inappropriate and acceptable versis unacceptable have
seem to grow thin. The act of nudity can represent a multitude of ideology before being nude
was seen as sacred and the act of being seen nude especially in public was forbidden. But as the
narrative has evolved overtime being nude is now correlated to being free and open minded.
Being nude in our society is expressing yourself in a manner that you deem acceptable, that we
shouldn t lot be limited to what society deems appropriate. It is actually a very selfish narrative
where everything revolves around the person and his or her personal goals.Marita Sturkin and
Lisa Cartwright hit on the ideology of individual in the Practices of Looking, One could say that
ideology is the means by which certain values, such as individual freedom, progress, and the
importance of home, are made to seem like natural, inevitable aspects of everyday life (Sturkin
Cartwright 21). This kind of egocentric narrative is present in the Rolling Stone cover when
dissected fully, and it shows how the narrative in America is more like me, me, me instead of us,
us, us. Even though nudity is now somewhat encouraged by our entertainment, there are still levels
to nudity. In most cases when a woman is presented nude she is usually presented in a way that is
not too exposing, just as Julia Dreyfus is doing in the cover. This is due to the fact that there is still a

Role Of The Cultural Perspective When Dealing With Conflict
For any international organization, understanding cultural differences is very significant in the
global context. The article analyzes the role and impact of the cultural perspective when dealing
with conflict in the global context. What seems like a perfectly reasonable approach in one culture
may seem ridiculous, disrespectful, inefficient, or unfair to managers from other cultures. Japanese
and German managers may be uneasy with conflict resolution preferences that differ from their
own. (Adams, p.110.) The understanding that organizational and global cultures vary results in the
connected research supported in several businesses in diverse fields.
This research did not only use the preferences of superiors employed in multicultural environments,
when analyzing, but explored the role of each individual s culture in defining a possible resolution.
If managers insist on their cultural preferences as the way to resolve disagreements, more
disagreements will emerge because of misunderstood processes for resolving disagreements. The
results of this study suggest that effective conflict resolution may need to begin with the
recognition of different cultural preferences for resolution strategies. Only then can further attempts
at resolution proceed effectively. In other words, focus on the where before jumping into the how.
(Adams, p.110)
Creating a workplace environment that enables employees to flourish includes the recognition that
cultural diversity is important.

How Emotional Support Is For Men
When men come home, women should avoid asking what happened at work rather talk
sometimes nice, about kids or tell them the good news (if you have received any) or talk about
general things. Let s talk about how emotional support looks like and what emotional support is
for men: Men want women to be on their side. Find ways to let your husband know that you
support them in whatever they do and you will stand by them no matter what happens. When the
world is against him, stand up for them. You should show your partner that you value all that he
values. This definitely adds a sense of security, intimacy and teamwork to your relationship.
Husbands want more touch and physical affection from their partners and not only sex. Cuddle up
with your husband s while watching television, give them a big, tight hug and kiss them, or just
give them a five minute rub while you both lay in bed together Make some extra effort and show
your partners physical affection consistently. This surely makes them feel good. Husband s at
times wanted to share their burden and tensions with their wives. If your partner is stressed about
their upcoming presentation or work, ask them if they need your help to make their work a little
easier. Small gestures could make a huge difference especially on days when they are stressed out.
Occasionally, men want their wives to join them in their hobby. It might just be playing the guitar
with him, playing chess with him or working out with him. The most

To what extent does success in china depend on businesses...
Success for a business in a large market such as china can be a very difficult thing to achieve;
there are many factors that can affect the success or failure of a business that decides to merge
into China s markets. Most people would assume that due to the very large population of china
(roughly 1.35 billion/1,363,496,913) operating a business there would not be a problem, this
however is incorrect, just because there is lots of people there doesn t for a minute make it any
easier to set u p and run a successful business.
The main point I would say that is essential to success in china is adaptation. If a business is able
to adapt well to its surroundings, i.e. the ability to easily change its products and services to match

Making their chain stores very traditional and fitting with the local culture. Surprisingly Starbucks
charges as much as 50% more for some of its products in China than in the U.S., the U.K. and
India, but yet it is still a huge success, this is because the business catered well for the needs and
adapted. Carrying a Starbucks cup is seen as a status symbol, a way to demonstrate sophistication
and the capability to afford a personal luxury for the up and coming middle class in China. This
links into the brand recognition that Starbucks has created for itself and shows how they carefully
targeted their products at the new middle class, it is estimated that it s more than 300 million,
already larger than the entire population of the United States. This middle class is about 25% of the
total Chinese population and as Starbucks has such a recognisable brand people are more liable to
visit the store.
However, that being said some large companies have tried to adapt for the Chinese markets, and
failed despite their efforts. One large well known company that can be an example of this is
McDonalds. Although the very popular and globally recognised company has succeeded almost
everywhere else, doesn t guaranty its success everywhere. By adapting their menus to what they
thought was the local cuisine, the managers of the franchise thought they were on to a winner, but
as time went on it became obvious that simply changing their menus wasn t

Essay about Wal-Mart
The founder of the Wal Mart chain, Sam Walton was born in March 1918 in the town of
Kingfisher, Oklahoma. Graduating from the University of Missouri, Sam enlisted in the Army
for the World War II effort. Upon his return, Sam worked for a while at the J.C. Penney group of
stores. He began to realize that opportunities existed in the large scale discount retailing business
(nickel and dime stores). The idea and business philosophy of Wal Mart borrowed from the nickel
and dime stores of earlier times, and consisted of getting National Brands in bulk at a discount
based on volume purchases; the company would then stamp its mark and resell the goods at a
slight markup, this rate being however less than the other competing Mom and Pop stores... Show

Yet in the sphere of business, he was a radical trend setter. Choosing to be innovative and
aggressive, the founder of Wal Mart took the large scale discount retailing business to new heights
and down new avenues. Sam borrowed a lot of ideas for his early stores from Kmart and others. But
it was what he chose to do differently В– the ways he put his own stamp on the basic business
model В– that made Wal Mart so fabulously successful. His model was the same as Kmart s, but
his strategy was unique. From the very beginning, Walton chose to serve a different group of
customers. At that time, the 10 largest discounters (in 1962) focused on large metropolitan areas
and cities like New York. Wal Mart s key strategy was to put good size stores into little one horse
towns which everybody else was ignoring. He sought out isolated rural towns with populations
between 5,000 25,000, and correctly bet that if his stores could match or beat the city prices,
people would shop at home. Since Wal Mart s markets tended to be too small to support more
than one large retailer, eventually the small local competitors went out of business, making the
whole area Wal Mart territory. Wal Mart also took a different approach to merchandising and
pricing than its competitors. While competitors relied heavily on private label goods, second tier
brands and price promotions, Wal Mart promised National Brands at everyday low prices. The
company pursued efficiency and

Factors In Charles Duhigg s The Power Of Habits
Habits are choices that people continue to make repeatedly without consciously thinking about
them. They start as decisions, but eventually become an autonomic process. Habits are very useful
tools if known how to construct properly, however, they can also be destructive. It is crucial to
understand how they work and the components behind them in order to overcome the destructive
habits. A common misconception about habits is that in order for one to change their habit,
willpower is the most important component. Many people try to change their habits and often fail.
The main reason they fail is because they believe that changing habits relies only on willpower the
control exerted to do something or restrain impulses without understanding the nature of how
habits work. In Charles Duhigg s The Power of Habit, he explains how habits work and what
components must be understood in order to overcome bad habits effectively. Although willpower
relates to habit change, the most important and effective components of changing habits include
the habit loop, craving, and routine. Charles Duhigg counters the misconception of willpower by
explaining that habits can be changed with the knowledge of how the habit loop works. Duhigg
states that by understanding what habits are and how they exist in daily life, it will be easier to
focus on certain places where habits can be changed most effectively. According to The Power of
Habit, a habit has three steps. First there is a cue, which is a

Review of Army of Shadows Essay
In Army of Shadows (2008), Hillel Cohen reexamines the typical historical narratives about
Palestinian perspectives prior to the Nakba. Much of the discussion pertains to the changes that
took place within the mindsets of numerous groups of Palestinians during the British Mandate. It
could be beneficial to compare the approach and methodologies of Hillel Cohen s book to Ilan
Pappe s The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine(2006) and his reassessment of Israel s historical
memory. Pappe focuses on the planning and actions that were taken to ensure an ethnically
cleansed Israel and places this in direct contrast with current perspectives of historical rhetoric.

One of the more important aspects of nationalism in the 1920s was how Arabic newspapers were
used to define notions of treason. Cohen assesses how one is determined to be a traitor, whether
through absentee land sales or contributions to Zionist intelligence organizations, and how this
leads to violent repression of all varieties of treason. It is interesting to note that although
nationalism was becoming rooted within Palestinian society, the notion of treason was not wholly
accepted. Widespread concepts of nationalism did not become the principal component in the
basket of identities of each individual and the one for which he is willing to kill and be killed but
instead, in the 1920s, setup the mechanisms that helped to achieve this goal: establishment of
nationalist norms, coercion, and reward. The press, the religious system..., and the educational
system served as central tools to setup the negative and positive influences into the norms of
nationalism. This in turn led to the concepts of who is a traitor and who is not. As nationalism
comes into its own by the riots of 1936, the definition of who are traitors or collaborators began to
take a more specific role. Whether they were opportunists, village leaders, patriots, or moralists, all
found themselves at odds with the rising forms of nationalism. Common responses within the

Work Ethics In Care
Work ethics in a long term care facility is important because when employed, your co workers
and supervisors need to know that they can count on you to do your job well. Being dependable
is a very important work ethic because you have to be at work on the time you were scheduled
and you have to be able to keep promises and stay on task. People that are not dependable in a
care facility tend to give fewer people care and the quality of the care they are giving tends to
suffer. Also when someone is not dependable for showing up on time it takes time away from the
patients and residents because someone has to cover for the absent employee. When working in

Essay about Compare a P and Greasy Lake
John Updike s A P and T. Coraghessan Boyle s Greasy Lake have many similarities as well as
differences as coming of age stories. A P is about a nineteen year old boy working at a grocery
shop who stands up against the manager trying to defend and impress the girls he is attracted to
who are not decently dressed (Updike 18). Greasy Lake is a story of several nineteen years old
youths who play a prank on a bad character and experience what real bad characters can do.

Hiding near the lake, the narrator is consternated and his true self В– the good side of his character
В– is stimulated: He is more shaken by guilt than by fear that Bobby s friends will hurt him. He
is, in fact, later overjoyed to hear the sound of Bobby s voice (Vannatta 1636). He, as well as
readers, finds that even though he call himself bad , deeply within his heart, he has many good
personalities (traits?), such as sympathy for other people (is sympathy a personality?). After he
encounters the corpse of the motorcyclist and experiences what Bobby s friends do with his
mother s car, the narrator further more distinguishes the difference between one s appearance
and one s inner self: a truly bad character does not have a label on his face. At the end of the
story, when the young woman says that the three [teenagers] look like В‘pretty bad characters ,
the narrator s reaction is hardly one of pride: В‘I thought I was going to cry (Vannatta 1638).
Finally, the narrator completes this significant step towards maturity. He does not try to act like a
bad character any more because he is not born to be bad. All he wants is to go home and start his
new life. Both stories are told in first person from the narrators point of views which allow reader to
discover the immaturity in both protagonists character through their minds. In A P , there are many

  • 2. Closed Loop System Ernestine Brown 01 16 17 Module 6 DQ2: When viewing a team as a closed loop system, each member becomes dependent on the next. How does this dependency influence the dynamics of a team, specifically from a systems perspective? One of the disadvantages of working within a closed loop system is that when a part of the system is not performing, it affects the dynamics of the entire teams. For instance, a thermostat works with a furnace to control room temperature is a perfect example of a closed loop system (Stead, Gregg, Jirjis, 2011). The objective of the thermostat is to control the desired organization/homeroom temperature. When the adjustment panel that turns the system off and on malfunction, it directly impacts the entire room temperature. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Grand Canyon University(2013) research, closed loop system interdepend on each system, they complement, shared, and learn from each other. A closed loop system team interacts with a learning organization through the deliverables, the daily involvement in the process, and the involvement of an active working leader. Mujtaba and Thomas (2005) asserted that values driven management is one critical application of the system thinking paradigm where decisions are analyzed regarding its total impact from a holistic approach. Learning closed loop systems and applying systems thinking concept is a critical leadership and organizational skill necessary in a learning organization (Mujtaba and Thomas, 2005). Leaders should search for means to deal with workplace complexity because, it natural for them to turn to the foundations and practices of systems theory, to see the impact of each generation on the success of learning organizations, to effectively maneuver through the changing landscape (Mujtaba and Thomas, ... • 3. Social Media And Its Impact On Public Sector Literature Review Social media provides the voice, in other words, social network and media connect company or organisation with its audience. Nowadays, social networking plays a significant role in any organisation. It is much easier for private sector to be linked with the social media, rather than for public sector. Public sector includes all organisations, which are owned or operated by the government, and exist to provide services to citizens (PrivacySense.net, n.d.). Thus, it can be suggested for waste management company to use Twitter and Facebook as a primary social media platforms for external communications, in order to communicate with citizens on day to day basis and keep them updated. Furthermore, the term, such as Gov 2.0, has to be mentioned. Government 2.0 (Gov 2.0) can be described as the use of information technology (IT) to commoditise and socialise government services and processes (DiMaio, 2009). When Gov 2.0 and Web 2.0 works together, it has a positive impact on the link between public sector organisation, government, and citizens. • 8. How to Teach during a Tragegy There was nothing about leaving the school where I taught in New Orleans on Friday afternoon, August 27, 2005, that led me to believe I wouldn t see most of my colleagues and students ever again. Bye, see you Monday! I called out to them. On the drive home, I heard weather reports about a hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico and thought to myself, It probably won t affect New Orleans. By Saturday, forecasters said the possibility of the storm making landfall near New Orleans had increased, but I still wasn t alarmed; my family and I were more concerned about attending a Saints preseason football game in the Superdome along with thousands of other New Orleanians that night. The predictions for the hurricane hitting New Orleans became more ominous on Sunday, causing the mayor of our city to order a mandatory evacuation for all residents. My family reluctantly evacuated the city as we had done so many times before for other hurricanes, none of which had been devastating. Much like when I left schoolon Friday, there was nothing about leaving New Orleans that Sunday that led me to think I would never see my home again. It became clear by Monday that New Orleans would suffer a near direct hit by a hugely intensified Hurricane Katrina. Although our city largely withstood the fierce winds and rains brought by the Category 5 storm, it ultimately fell to the flooding that resulted when an aging levee system breached, resulting in 80% of the city being underwater, up to 20 ... A superhero is defined as a benevolent fictional character with superhuman powers, such as Superman. The argument of the movie, Unbreakable, directed by M. Night Shyamalan, is whether or not David Dunne has superpowers. Dunne is considered to have superpowers due to his extreme capability of strength. Price has been looking for Dunne since his mother first gave him his collector s edition of a comic book. After he takes Price s advice, he is seen walking through the rain to help a family. He is seen as a cloaked figure, trying to preserve his powers. • 10. Apollinarianism Research Paper ¬¬ Apollinarianism Konstantin Martynyuk Theology 154: Faith, Justice the Catholic Tradition April 5, 2017 Apollinarius was the bishop of Laodicea who developed the heretical position concerning the nature of Christ. Originally, a supporter of orthodoxy against the Arians, his Christological teaching becomes a heresy among scholars, at a synod in Rome in 374 380 and by the Council of Constantinople in 381. The primary opponents of Apollinarius were Athanasius, the Cappadocian Fathers (the two Gregories), and Epiphanius. His Christology, Apollinarism, denied the existence in Christ of a rational ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, when talking about the Incarnation, Apollinarius strays from the orthodox perception of Christ and says that he has only one true (divine) nature. In accord with Church teaching, Apollinarius believed that Jesus Christ has fully redeemed humanity. He is the only mediator between God and man, a fact which led Apollinarius to maintain that if God were a unity, Christ himself must be a unity. If the divine element was simply united with mankind, we would have two sons, one of God by nature and the other by adoption. With this the flesh of Christ is not added to divinity but establishes one nature with the God. The Treatise Against Apollinarius, or better known by its Latin title, Antirrheticus, was created by Gregory of Nyssa to challenge this heretic teachings of Apollinarius. St. Gregory of Nyssa wrote two works during the 380s opposing the teachings of not just Apollinarius but his followers as well. Moving forward, the Incarnation showed that a physical body was joined with the divine logos. Looking back to an assigned reading from earlier in the semester, in the Gospel of John, the passage says The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. (John 1:14) Apollinarius interpreted this as the logos taking on flesh without assuming a human mind, the source of evil. For Apollinarius, the logos was the sole life of Jesus even down to the physical level. He thereby constitutes one living unity in which the soul directs and the body ... • 14. Prelude and The Wasteland by T.S. Elliot In our daily lives, we are too busy to do the things that we always want to do. So, we live lives of boring repetition. However, we have become adjusted to it so almost none of us complain. T.S. Eliot was born in St. Louis, Missouri and eventually moved to London, England. Extremely well educated, Eliot wrote many highly praised poems. For example, The Waste Landwas assembled out of dramatic vignettes based on Eliot s London life. Another poem, Preludes, talks about the daily lives of people where it starts off simple, but leads into something deeper than everyday life. Three reasons why I relate to Preludes by T.S. Eliot are evenings, mornings, and spiritually. In Preludes by T.S Eliot, a city is being described by all the things that happen in the evening. The smell of steaks is everywhere. When this poem was composed, steaks were inexpensive and were commonly eaten by members of the lower class. I can relate to this part of the poem because my family cooks steaks and my town calms down in the way that the city being described does. The poem then goes on to describe how a gusty shower wraps the grimy scraps of withered leaves about your feet and newspapers from vacant lots. The streetsare gross and unattractive and the street lights flicker on and off. Parts of Worland have grimy looking streets and houses like this city does. A lonely cab horse chugs along the darkened streets. I believe that part of the poem is telling us that life is empty at night and everything ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Military Rank And Inequality Felicia Severy ANTH 484 Professor Mary Nolan Rough Draft Military Rank and Inequality Introduction Inequality within the military is not a new concept. Gender inequality is particularly well known and everyone is familiar with the concept of military rank; benefits increase as rank increases. Lower ranking military service personnel receive smaller, lower quality base houses, are expected to work longer hours, receive less BAH (Basic Allowance for Housing) regardless of family size, and may not receive all of the support services entitled to them. How does the rank of an enlisted member impact his or her family? Does inequality within the ranks have an affect on morale and/or quality of life? Is rank inequality acceptable to military families? Literature Review Inequality in the Military: An Examination of Promotion Time for Black and White Enlisted Men (Butler 1976) asserts that black enlisted men are subject to racism during promotion time. When all things are equal between a black and white military member, black personnel take longer to move up in rank. Thus, black military personnel are subject to inequality. This novel is set while George and Lennie are in a small working ranch in the Salinas Valley of northern California, and over a period of 3 days we are introduced to a variety of characters that also live on the ranch. Steinbeck says that Slim is the prince of the ranch and that he moved with a majesty only achieved by royalty. Steinbeck s deliberate use of the word prince instantly shows us that Slim is the usurper of Curley s position: Curley, as the son of the king of the ranch should, technically, be known as the prince , yet Slim has been accepted as this. Steinbeck uses the Stetson hat to show Slim s status, as the hat symbolises a crown. We begin to get an understanding of why Curley is jealous of Slim; Slim is everything Curley wishes to be. Steinbeck always talks of Slim with dignity, majesty and respect, and manages to show how talented he is by using an ascending tri colon to talk about Slims difficult job as a jerkline skinner. He was capable of driving ten, sixteen, even twenty mules with a single line to the leaders. This heightens the impressiveness of Slims skilled work, and could be interpreted as Slim was a hard worker, who had achieved his authoritative position by being skilled at the hardest job on the farm. However, Steinbeck could also be saying that the mules represent the ranchers, and that Slim is able to control and lead all the ranchers using the littlest force possible, as opposed to Curleys harsh and more physical attempts at controlling them. Steinbeck also says there was gravity in his [Slims] manner. The use of the word gravity is interesting because it could be perceived as saying that his manner was serious and solemn, but on the ... The article analyzes the role and impact of the cultural perspective when dealing with conflict in the global context. What seems like a perfectly reasonable approach in one culture may seem ridiculous, disrespectful, inefficient, or unfair to managers from other cultures. Japanese and German managers may be uneasy with conflict resolution preferences that differ from their own. (Adams, p.110.) The understanding that organizational and global cultures vary results in the connected research supported in several businesses in diverse fields. This research did not only use the preferences of superiors employed in multicultural environments, when analyzing, but explored the role of each individual s culture in defining a possible resolution. If managers insist on their cultural preferences as the way to resolve disagreements, more disagreements will emerge because of misunderstood processes for resolving disagreements. The results of this study suggest that effective conflict resolution may need to begin with the recognition of different cultural preferences for resolution strategies. Only then can further attempts at resolution proceed effectively. In other words, focus on the where before jumping into the how. But it was what he chose to do differently В– the ways he put his own stamp on the basic business model В– that made Wal Mart so fabulously successful. His model was the same as Kmart s, but his strategy was unique. From the very beginning, Walton chose to serve a different group of customers. At that time, the 10 largest discounters (in 1962) focused on large metropolitan areas and cities like New York. Wal Mart s key strategy was to put good size stores into little one horse towns which everybody else was ignoring. He sought out isolated rural towns with populations between 5,000 25,000, and correctly bet that if his stores could match or beat the city prices, people would shop at home. Since Wal Mart s markets tended to be too small to support more than one large retailer, eventually the small local competitors went out of business, making the whole area Wal Mart territory. They start as decisions, but eventually become an autonomic process. Habits are very useful tools if known how to construct properly, however, they can also be destructive. It is crucial to understand how they work and the components behind them in order to overcome the destructive habits. A common misconception about habits is that in order for one to change their habit, willpower is the most important component. Many people try to change their habits and often fail. The main reason they fail is because they believe that changing habits relies only on willpower the control exerted to do something or restrain impulses without understanding the nature of how habits work. In Charles Duhigg s The Power of Habit, he explains how habits work and what components must be understood in order to overcome bad habits effectively. Although willpower relates to habit change, the most important and effective components of changing habits include the habit loop, craving, and routine. • 49. Review of Army of Shadows Essay In Army of Shadows (2008), Hillel Cohen reexamines the typical historical narratives about Palestinian perspectives prior to the Nakba. Much of the discussion pertains to the changes that took place within the mindsets of numerous groups of Palestinians during the British Mandate. It could be beneficial to compare the approach and methodologies of Hillel Cohen s book to Ilan Pappe s The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine(2006) and his reassessment of Israel s historical memory. Pappe focuses on the planning and actions that were taken to ensure an ethnically cleansed Israel and places this in direct contrast with current perspectives of historical rhetoric. Both authors draw from a variety of sources in order to adequately examine the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the more important aspects of nationalism in the 1920s was how Arabic newspapers were used to define notions of treason. Cohen assesses how one is determined to be a traitor, whether through absentee land sales or contributions to Zionist intelligence organizations, and how this leads to violent repression of all varieties of treason. It is interesting to note that although nationalism was becoming rooted within Palestinian society, the notion of treason was not wholly accepted. Widespread concepts of nationalism did not become the principal component in the basket of identities of each individual and the one for which he is willing to kill and be killed but instead, in the 1920s, setup the mechanisms that helped to achieve this goal: establishment of nationalist norms, coercion, and reward. The press, the religious system..., and the educational system served as central tools to setup the negative and positive influences into the norms of nationalism. This in turn led to the concepts of who is a traitor and who is not. As nationalism comes into its own by the riots of 1936, the definition of who are traitors or collaborators began to take a more specific role. Whether they were opportunists, village leaders, patriots, or moralists, all found themselves at odds with the rising forms of nationalism. Common responses within the Palestinian narrative ... • 53. Essay about Compare a P and Greasy Lake John Updike s A P and T. Coraghessan Boyle s Greasy Lake have many similarities as well as differences as coming of age stories. A P is about a nineteen year old boy working at a grocery shop who stands up against the manager trying to defend and impress the girls he is attracted to who are not decently dressed (Updike 18). Greasy Lake is a story of several nineteen years old youths who play a prank on a bad character and experience what real bad characters can do. Fortunately, Sammy and the narrator realize their deficiency В– infantility В– after their conflict with other people just like the ancient Greek proverb says, Through suffering comes wisdom (qtd. in Vannatta 1637). In Sammy s case, enraged that Lengel has... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hiding near the lake, the narrator is consternated and his true self В– the good side of his character В– is stimulated: He is more shaken by guilt than by fear that Bobby s friends will hurt him. He is, in fact, later overjoyed to hear the sound of Bobby s voice (Vannatta 1636). He, as well as readers, finds that even though he call himself bad , deeply within his heart, he has many good personalities (traits?), such as sympathy for other people (is sympathy a personality?). After he encounters the corpse of the motorcyclist and experiences what Bobby s friends do with his mother s car, the narrator further more distinguishes the difference between one s appearance and one s inner self: a truly bad character does not have a label on his face. At the end of the story, when the young woman says that the three [teenagers] look like В‘pretty bad characters , the narrator s reaction is hardly one of pride: В‘I thought I was going to cry (Vannatta 1638). Finally, the narrator completes this significant step towards maturity. He does not try to act like a bad character any more because he is not born to be bad. All he wants is to go home and start his new life. Both stories are told in first person from the narrators point of views which allow reader to discover the immaturity in both protagonists character through their minds. In A P , there are many places where Updike demonstrates ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
