Printed Badge Case Study
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 670,000 left their job in the retail trade in January 2017,
either voluntarily or involuntarily. This tends to be a challenge for employers, as they invest in these
employees. Most companies provide some level of training for employees, some offer uniforms and
the majority require name tags for those working in their organization. These costs can quickly add up,
especially with this level of retail turnover. One way a company can reduce these costs it to make use
of printed badges for employees. Why is this a good option for larger companies with retail chains or
stores with multiple staff?
Printed Badges
Printed badges come in a variety of styles and all are made with a thing, strong plastic material. ...

The company name is typically found on the badge, along with the company logo. A business,
however, may also wish to include their tagline or another message they wish to share with
consumers. In addition, a company may want to designate the employee s status on the badge. This
may be the same for all badges, or a company may wish to purchase new custom name badges for
different purposes.
Low Cost
A business can purchase different badges for different purposes easily, thanks to the low cost of these
items. Basic printed name badges may be used everyday, while special custom badges can be obtained
for special events. As they are inexpensive as compared to many other options on the market today, a
business may find they wish to order new ones for every event they sponsor.

The Importance Of Learning Computer Science
We live in the time period at which the vast majority of college students take fundamental level of
computer science.
It is because a lot of job requires some level of knowledge in it.
It also determines the payment in their future job. It is an indisputable fact that people who did not
learn computer science learn less salary than those who did learn. Therefore, the majority of the
college students are obsessed with computer science to acquire a financial advantage in the work
place.
In the first of class of IDS 190, Dr. James Lu explained to us that we would explore in this course on
one inquiry: is learning computer science important to our life?
Dr. Lu underscored throughout the semester that computer science can teach the skill of computational
thinking.
According Jeannette M. Wing, a professor at Carnegie Mellon University, computational thinking[It]
represents a universally applicable attitude and skill set everyone, not just computer scientists, would
be eager to learn and us.
In other word, computational thinking is relevant to algorithmic thinking, searching ability, logical
reasoning, abstraction, caching, recursion, representation, basic loop idiom, and nested loops, all of
which are computer science skills.
And knowing those specific techniques, according to Wing, will influence our problem solving ability,
creativity, and thinking. However, though computer science can tremendously help develop our
capability, those developments are not

Image Processing Essay
4.1 INTRODUCTION
In image processing, noise reduction and restoration of image is expected to enhance the qualitative
inspection of an image and the performance criteria of quantitative image analysis methods Digital
image is inclined to a variety of noise which attribute the quality of image. The main purpose of de
noising the image is to reinstate the detail of original image as much as possible. The criteria of the
noise removal problem depends on the noise type by which the image is contaminated .In the field of
reducing the image noise variously type of linear and non linear filtering techniques have been
proposed . Different approaches for reduction of noise and image betterment have been considered,
each of which has their own ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
4.2 DISCRETE COSINE TRANSFORM
DCT expresses a finite sequence of data points in terms of the sum of a cosine function oscillating at
different frequencies. DCT is Fourier related Transform similar to DFT, but using only real numbers.
It is used for image comparison in frequency domain. DCT is more robust to various image processing
technique like filtering, bluing brightness and contrast adjustment etc. although these are decrepit to
geometric attacks like rotation, scaling, cropping etc. it is used in JPEG compression.
DCTs are generally related to Fourier series coefficients of a periodically and symmetrically extended
sequence. In DCT an image can be broken down into three different frequency bands High frequency
components block (FH), Middle frequency components block (FM) and Low frequency components
block (FL). First of all image is segmented into non overlapping blocks of 8x8. Then every of those
blocks ahead DCT is implemented. After that some block selection criteria is applied and then
coefficient selection criteria is applied. y(j,k)=√(2/M) √(2/N) α_j α_k ∑_(x=0)^(M 1)▒∑_(y=0)^(N

Standardized Terminologies In Nursing Practice
Applying Standardized Terminologies in Practice Hyperhemesis gravidarum is a condition in which
the pregnant woman experiences severe nausea and vomiting. Although the causes of hyperemesis
gravidarum are not well known; however, many believe that elevated blood level of human chorionic
gonadotopin (HCG) may be a contributing factor of this condition. Currently the cause of nausea and
vomiting in pregnancy is unknown, although there is strong evidence linking human chorionic
gonadotropin or estrogens as well as genetic susceptibility possibly mediated through the
vestibuloocular reflex pathway (Fejzo et al., 2012). The following case scenario refers to a 22 weeks
pregnant woman admitted to the labor and delivery unit with severe nausea ... Show more content on

Nursing terminologies also help nurses to plan care that reflects the patient s needs, anticipate these
needs, and intervene accordingly. In addition, nursing informatics makes the use of standardized
terminologies more important than ever because it allows differentiating the impact of nursing care
from those of other disciplines. Thus, the standardization of nursing terminologies with documented
nursing diagnoses, nursing interventions, and patient outcomes is important to nursing practice
because it unifies the language among nurses and other healthcare providers, which will have a
positive impact on the quality of

Juvenile Justice Systems
Introduction Juvenile crime is a term around the world that is difficult to pinpoint and although there
are several definitions many fail to be concrete. There are many factors that play into sentencing
juveniles or minors upon a crime committed. How old are they? Can they mentally form criminal
intent? Are they old enough to no longer be treated as children? Some people would argue that a
criminal is just that, regardless of age. Research on the other hand shows that juveniles have
underdeveloped brains who at times have difficulty rationalizing decisions and weighing out
consequences. It is important that these issues are addressed because of the implications this has on
not only the juveniles but the community around them. These ... Show more content on

A study showed that the frontal lobe the largest part of the brain that controls the brains most
advanced functions is the last part of the brain to develop. So even though they are perfectly able in
other parts of the brain their lack of a developed frontal lobe can distort a juveniles decisions.
(American Bar Association, 2003) This makes it difficult for juveniles to measure consequences
beyond their actions in the moment. In a film about incarcerated Juveniles 14 year old Colt was
convicted of killing his stepfather. He tells his story and what he was thinking before committing the
act, I didn t think I would go to prison, I thought the worse they could give me was probation or boys
camp, I didn t realize that after the fact that every decision I make has consequences. (Kent, 2011)
Research in adolescent brains has shown us that they use their amygdala to make decisions. Amygdala
is responsible for fear and anxiety making juveniles reliance on it quite dangerous. In male adolescent
in particular we see an increase in testosterone which increases aggression and in females the increase
of hormones causes depression anxiety causing irrational choices. (American Bar Association, 2003)
Often the underlying issue behind juvenile delinquency is due to factors that they juvenile cannot
control. Growing up in situations where there was substance abuse, being the victim of physical or
sexual assault can trigger

Spotted Owl Essay
The spotted owls in western North America still exist today, despite being an endangered species.
There has been plenty of controversy surrounding the species regarding their habitat because their
habitat is desired and used by logging companies. These owls tend to reside in old forests as they
prefer old trees which are also preferred for logging. There has been plenty of controversy on whether
or not logging companies should be put to a halt in forests that these owls reside in, which involve
balancing values of environment and economy. This is mainly due to the fact that logging provides
jobs as well as resources to people, despite the fact that it affects the owls and their ecosystem. It is
debated whether or not owl s habitat and ecosystem should be protected or not for the sake of logging.
Due to unfortunate circumstances, such as logging, the spotted owl s habitat has been declining, thus
resulting in the population to also decline. It has been reported that, there are fewer than 100 pairs of
Northern spotted owls in British Columbia, Canada, 1,200 pairs in Oregon, 560 pairs in northern
California and 500 pairs in the state of Washington. ( Basic Facts About Northern Spotted Owls 2012),
which demonstrates the the small amount of spotted owls left in parts of western North America. This
coincides with the fact that the population is declining five times faster than anticipated under a
British Columbia plan. The population has declined rapidly between 1992 to 2001

Marxist View on Education
Using material from Item A and elsewhere, assess the view that the education system exists mainly to
select and prepare young people for their future work roles. (20 marks)
As stated in Item A sociologists see the education system as performing a vital role in modern
societies. Item A also highlights that the education system can equip individuals with the specialised
knowledge and skills they will need when they join the workforce. Therefore, the education system
helps select and allocate individuals into their future work roles. Although many sociologists agree
this is the main role of education, they argue whether this is a positive thing or a negative thing.
Whereas Functionalists believe this role of education benefits society and ... Show more content on

Althusser also argues that pupils learn a smokescreen so they cannot see inequality and the lie of
meritocracy. He claims that schools try to promote the belief of meritocracy this basically means
success is based on your own merit and ability. This supposedly helps motivate pupils to work hard
because if they do they will succeed in life and in their chosen careers. However Althusser believes
this is a lie as schools are in no way meritocratic. This is shown through the fact that the middle
classes have more opportunity i.e. being able to afford the best possible education etc. Althusser
believes that schools teach working class pupils to blame themselves for social failure instead of
society i.e. if pupils fail they will usually say they didn t work hard enough etc. Although schools have
a role of promoting the ruling class ideology, educations main role is to mould pupils into ideal
workers which helps prop up and maintain capitalism.
Durkheim also believes education has the important role of teaching the skills needed for work and
that it has an allocation function which helps people fit into the right roles in society. It has been
suggested that this helps prepare young people for their future work roles through the teaching of
specialist skills. Functionalist Parsons builds on Durkheim s ideas.

The Crash Movie Anthropology
In anthropology, there are studies of racism and how different ethnicities act towards each other.
People s thoughts and assumptions about someone are based on their skin color, or where you are
from, and how this type group acts, and people judged based on that assumption. This is something
called rationalization where you categorize a person into a specific group of people. In anthropology,
there is something called white privilege where based on your skin color, you have more or less rights
as a person. This is presented in the movie The Crash which takes a look at the way race plays a role
in American lives every day, in our modern society. This movie presents about different ethnicities
such as the Persians, the Hispanics, the Blacks,

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Mergers In Banks
INTRODUCTION
Banking industry plays a very important role in the economic growth of a country. Mergers and
Acquisitions have become a positive way for growth in the size of banks which in turn play a
significant role in entering the competitive global financial market. The Indian banking sector can be
divided into two eras, the pre liberalization era and the post liberalization era. In pre liberalization era
government of India nationalized 14 Banks on 19 July 1969 and later on 6 more commercial Banks
were nationalized on 15 April 1980. In the year 1993 government merged The New Bank of India and

commercial banks in Nigeria. Gross earnings, profit after tax and deposit profile was chosen as
financial efficiency parameters for the purpose of study. The findings indicated an enhanced financial
performance leading to improved financial efficiency.
Devarajappa S (2012) in their research explored various motives of merger in the Indian banking
sector. It further compared pre and post merger financial performance of merged banks by using
various financial parameters. The result suggested that post merger, the financial performance of the
banks have improved, particularly, the return on equity, debt equity ratio and Gross Profit ratio have
shown significant improvement after the merger.
Saluja Rajni, Sharma Sheetal, Dr. Lal Roshan (2012) evaluated the impact of merger on the financial
performance of HDFC Bank by using CAMEL Model. The study concluded that financial
performance of HDFC Bank improved in post merger period in almost all parameters of CAMEL

Dr Home Character Analysis
1) Describe the following characters
a) Dr. House
Dr. House is a doctor who is always looking for the truth in every situation regardless of who they are.
He seems to have a way of seeing through people and their tales regardless of what they may be. He is
a believer, but also knows there is a medical reason for everything. He has a mindset to get to the
bottom of everything. He is also the go to guy in the hospital if there is a serious problem. People like
him and trust him. I would say he is a confident man.

his son.
d) The cancer patient
She is giving up on life at this point. The doctor has prescribed four different types of pain
medications, but they are not working. She knows she is at the end, but the doctor does not want her to

She meets the teenager and he turns her thinking around. He makes her think different, feel different,
as well as feel better. She now believes and wants a life.

The doctor s seem to be optimistic throughout this process. They seem to believe the things the
teenager states because he knows things other would not typically know. They see the medical reports,
hear the diagnosis, and see the Father s reaction, but cannot put it all together. The doctor s want to

Essay On Symbolism In Lord Of The Flies
Novels usually tend to have a life lesson that the author has learned. The reader might have to analyze
the story to a deeper thought to find the literary devices used. The Lord of the Flies is all about the
origin of human characteristics, whether humanity is considered morally good or initially evil, without
laws or authority. The conch is one object that shows the theme of humanity. The symbolism of the
conch changes throughout the book. The symbolism of the conch is order, democracy, social order,
respect, and power at the beginning of the book. At the end of the novel, the conch loses its power and
portrays savagery and barbarism. At the same time as the conch loses its power and symbolism, Simon
gets killed by the savagery of the boys. Piggy and the conch gets crushed. The destruction of the
conch symbolizes the destruction of what little civilization the boys possessed. In the Lord of the

The Conflict in Darfur and United States Involvement
The conflict in Darfur refers to the fighting that is happening in the western region of Sudan known as
Darfur. These fights have been taking place since 2003 and have continued to today. Similarities can
be made to the Rwandan Genocide; there is a government funded and armed militia that is not
officially supported by the government that is killing a local population. The citizens of the region of
Darfur that are being killed are not Arabic, like the majority of the rest of Sudan is, however, they are
more similar in culture and other aspects to the citizens of South Sudan, Sudan s neighboring country
to the south with which Sudan has had multiple wars with. Despite the fact that there is a militia that is
killing citizens, there are also other militias that are fighting for the Darfuri people. These two sides
have been fighting each other for close to ten years. Even though citizens of a certain group are being
targeted by a militia, the conflict in Darfur is not a genocide. The United States should not get
involved militarily in this conflict because it is only a conflict and not a genocide. It is a war between
two groups over disputes between these groups. Instead, the United States should use diplomacy to
help end the conflict happening in Darfur.
A genocide is the systematic attempt to eliminate a group of people based on race, religion, ethnicity,
or other defining group characteristic. This should not be misconstrued with a war between two
groups where each group is

National Regulation For Chambers Of Commerce
2.1.1. National regulation for chambers of commerce
CCMA is a private company that has private and public services. Public services are regulated by
National Government (Confecamras, n.d.), while private services works with market logic and
compete with other companies´ services.
Since CCMA develops some public services, it can be affected by normative changes, which could
imply for the company a reduction of its incomes or a rise of its operational costs.
Due to these facts the CCMA must reduce its level of dependency of political factors, generating more
incomes through its private services, which means that this public threat makes evident an opportunity
of developing new services and growing the scope of the actual private services. Besides CCMA must
be aware of changes in regulations.
2.1.2. A strong brand
The CCMA has a recognized brand in the region where it offers its services. This has been achieved
due to the company´s presence in that market for 100 years, and the number of companies associated
that it has (CCMA, n.d; Figueroa N., 2015).
Another factor that helps company to have a strong brand is the projects and programs that this
company develop with local governments, which allows it positioning its brand and promote its
services (Osorio, 2004; Arias, 2014, El Tiempo, n.d.). This strength of the CCMA is an asset that helps
positioning company´s services in the mind of its customers (Hollensen, 2015).

Longitudinal Design Disadvantages
Longitudinal design:

3 Such studies, especially those that cover a wide age span, have another problem. Like longitudinal

Gender Roles In STEM
Over the course of history, advances made by women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and
Mathematics (STEM) have been overshadowed and downplayed due to a male dominant culture in
these fields. The primary reason for these fields being dominated by males is the way women have
been forced into gender roles over the course of history. Women with ambition to build, create, and
discover have been discouraged from following their passions and are instead told to focus on raising
their children. This discrimination has hurt the overall progress in scientific communities as it has
limited women in the resources available to them and has forced them to work in the shadows. Yet
there has still been great progress in STEM made by women. Over the past ... Show more content on

Many women end up surrounded by male peers with no one to relate to in their coursework. Women
may find themselves isolated in their classes and unable to find academic organizations on campus
that support women majoring in STEM. Being unrepresented in STEM academia and having a limited
amount of peers to relate to leads to discouragement. Women also face harsher criticism due to male
bias within the STEM communities. This criticism comes not only from their male peers, but from
administrative staff at institutions as well. One study shows that many woman applying for STEM
related scholarships have had to be up to 2.5 times more productive than men to be considered equally
competent (Barres, 386). This is again due to the gender stereotypes that have become imbedded
within society. This bias also means women pursuing STEM degrees are put at a disadvantage in
regards to selective processes for internships and academic clubs. By constantly having to prove
themselves and repeatedly being discouraged by their environment, women studying STEM have a
much harder time than men staying motivated in their courses. This of course leads to lower grades
and a greater likelihood of dropping out of their programs. It is also safe to assume that creating an
environment that causes women to constantly doubt themselves will have a negative impact on their
academic performance; any student male or female must believe in themselves to be able to

Cultural Expectations In Marge Piercy s Barbie Doll
The ideal that society thrives on creating expected images for women is constantly argued against.
Many disagree with the idea that society can place expectations for what is beautiful, now saying
things such as chunky is hunky or that men love curves . In reality, the standards are still set. For
example, with American magazines audiences are infatuated by the image of perfect beauty and
female sexuality (Hanjani 310). In Marge Piercy s Barbie Doll , Piercy exemplifies the effects of
society s standards on a growing adolescent girl. Piercy uses the symbolism of the poem and repetition

around and express how truly beautiful she was. The title, Barbie doll, is fitting with this portion of the
poem. The casket was not just a casket. Instead, it acted as a Barbie Box, one that showed of the
contents of its perfect package. However, it wasn t truly the girl that was represented in the box.
Instead, she was made up to perfection, her nose was now a turned up putty nose (Piercy, 604), and
she had mountains of makeup caked onto her face. It was only now that society accepted the girl, she
had met their standards at last. The girl represents the death of everyone as well, with her death,
everyone now supported her. The casket, girl, and her death all symbolize the events that unfold with
most female death. A female is glorified on her death

Where The Red Fern Grows Analysis
What does a ten year old have to look forward to in the fifth grade? Honestly, nothing much. Learning
to drive and getting to stay out late does not become a way of life for, at least, another six years. In the
days of learning about reciprocals and chloroplast I found myself looking forward to the thirty minutes
of story time after recess the most. At that age, it was the sole activity that could hold my attention for
any given time. Excited and attentive, we would all gather around Ms. Powell s old, wooden rocker
and listen to story after story. In the fifth grade books became more than just stories; I fell in love with
reading for pleasure. It has been nearly a decade since I have been in the tiny portable that housed

for Ms.Powell and the stories she would read after recess. Nothing has stuck with me more than that
special activity. In the fifth grade books became more than just books, and it has been that way ever

How Investment Is Important For Job Creation And Growth Of...
Investment is key to job creation and growth. When Germany and Pakistan signed a bilateral
investment treaty in 1959, it showed the world how modern trade and investment agreements among
countries can be concluded to protect foreign investment ( arbitration game | The Economist, n.d.).
Since then, there have been over 3000 trade and investment agreement between 180 countries. Many
of these agreements contain a mechanism called Investor State Dispute Settlement (ISDS), which
allows a foreign investor to invoke arbitration against the host government for the breach of certain
investor protections (Sapiro, 2015).
Governments put ISDS in place for at least three reasons:

They are also not bound by a legal precedent system and enjoy wide discretion. The tribunalists are
not salaried but paid by the parties (foreign investors or host government), which results in
incentivizing a pro investor bias among tribunalists. According to the Fair and Equitable Treatment
(FET), foreign investors alone enjoy broadly interpreted substantive rights which are also vague. Not
only this poses a threat to the environmental, health and financial protections but also give privileges
to foreign investors over domestic firms. Domestic firms can launch ISDS cases using their foreign
subsidiaries against their home government. Treaty shopping is another concern as foreign investors
can reshuffle their corporate structure or establish new subsidiary to access ISDS ( Do the
Commission s reform proposals for ISDS really solve the problem? Stop TTIP Stop TTIP, n.d.).
Although, there is a lot of discussion around reforming the ISDS clause, there are sound reasons why
most states still embrace the ISDS provisions in their trade and investment agreements. The domestic
quality of legal protections varies widely among states with some of the legal systems not functioning
within the acceptable standard of fairness despite treaty obligations. We do see that the largest number
of ISDS disputes have

Why a Resistant strand of Group A Streptococcus is Causing Problems in Children and Becoming
Resistant to Antibiotics
Abstract: Streptococcus is a bacteria that has been evolving through the recent centuries. A new form
of these bacteria from group A streptococcus is becoming resistant and creating a whole new kind of
this disease. The new form of this disease is twenty seven percent resistant to the antibiotic and is
causing pneumonia meningitis in children. The new cures being created to fight against these bacteria
are great except for that the new vaccine has no effect on children. Researches have finally found a
vaccine that is effective on children because of a protein that is attached to the vaccine. Within a

There are three kinds or groups of streptococcus A, B, and C group. Group A streptococcus are known
as streptococcus pyogenes, which are also known as S pyogene. In 1884 the organism was named s
pyogene by the scientist Rosebach (Sat Sharma MD, 2004). Though the bacteria wasn t named till
1884 it was first described by Billroth in 1874. Streptococcus is known to cause the diseases
rheumatic fever, scarlet fever, tonsillitis, pneumonias, sinusitis, and
Streptococcus Group A 2 ear infections (American Academy of Otolaryngology). There are antibiotics
for these diseases, but over the years they have been becoming more resistant.
Streptococcus is becoming more resistant to antibiotics. Over a period of three years from September
1, 1993 to August 31, 1996 a study was done on children suffering from the resistant group A
streptococcus (Dr. Arditi, 1999). This new group A strain caused children pneumococcal meningitis.
Researches looked at eight different hospitals in the United States and one hundred and eighty cases
within these three years. The study was designed to look at clinical presentation, hospital course, and
the outcome from the children being cured. As they watched and monitored the children s progress on

if the streptococcus was becoming resistant, which antibiotics were given as treatment, and from those
antibiotics which streptococcus became

The Taliban is one of the most notorious militant Sunni Islamic political groups in the world. The

It was his anger about Luis death that enabled Paul to make this confession. When the cops came to
arrest Arthur for being linked to the death of Luis, [Paul] stood up straight and faced them all, like [he]

death quickly turned into anger when Arthur s father tried to convince the cops that Arthur was
innocent. Paul gained this courage because of the presence of the many adults and officers who were
around, making sure that Erik could not get revenge on Paul. The book implied that Erik was going to
jail when the officer said You keep this young man in the house not in the neighborhood, not in the

The author of this essay is a consumer of high street fashion apparel and expresses a personal interest

The strategic issues that are relevant to this topic are as follows; are there specific groups of
consumers being targeted when undertaking the research, what are the consumer behaviours that are

An assessment should then be carried out to determine who the winners and losers are of the fashion
high street retailers and this has been completed in the same report. Value and young retailers,
supermarkets, mid market retailers and specialist retailers (in particular foot wear) have been analysed,
by terms of sales, to define which retailers have succeeded and which have suffered during the
recession. By comparing these retailers, it can be understood what the succeeding retailers have
offered consumers over the suffering retailers. Value retailers have stood out in this report as being a
beneficiary of the downturn this growth has been driven by a number of economic factors, particularly
consumers keenness to obtain value for money and genuine pressure on their household budgets,
leading them to trade down on many items. Given continued reductions in clothing prices, fashion has
been particularly attractive relative to other household spending categories (Mintel, 2010). The report
suggests that as might be expected, taking advantage of sales and offers is more common among those
spending less last year as well as in 2010, as is shopping more often in value clothing stores or trading
down to less expensive stores than usual . The report Clothing Retailing Europe 2009 suggests that
when the economy starts to recover, life could get tougher for the value retailers and positioning
correctly for the upturn will be important. So, while ultra low prices and

What Is The Lucky Lady Charm Essay
As part of Novomatic s Novoline series of pokies, Lucky Lady Charm takes its place amount other
Novomatic classics such as Dolphins Pearl and Sizzling Hot. For many years now, the company has
employed a tactic and formula that seems to keep churning out pokies that work for the player. It s not
a bad idea to have a somewhat standard game format that allows the company to simply swap out one
theme for another. It s worth noting that the Lucky Lady Charm pokie was successful enough to
warrant a sequel titled Lucky Lady Charm Deluxe.
Without being too critical of Novomatic, players should approach the Lucky Lady Charm casino game

The Role Of Masculinity In Videogames
Masculinity, as defined by Webster, is the possession of the qualities traditionally associated with men.
In the year of 2018, are we still following these traditional senses of masculinity in nontraditional
ways? Traditional masculinity/ hegemonic masculinity can be defined as a practice that legitimizes
men s dominant position in society, justifies the subordination of women, and other marginalized ways
of being a man. Even in such an advance society our ideas of masculinity lag in comparison to our
overall development of a greater culture. This delay is evident in our work environments, classrooms,
and any other place imaginable.
Through our advancement of society, technology itself has been a big contributor to the continuation
of hegemonic masculinity way of thinking. One of the ways technology enforces this ideology is
through themes presented in videogames. As stated by Nina Huntemann in her 2000 film, Game Over:

Examples Of Group Dynamics In 12 Angry Men
It s Possible : How Group Dynamics Affect their Outcomes
As the courtroom drama film 12 Angry Men celebrates its 60th anniversary, there is no doubt to why it
remains a cinematic classic. Its strategic cinematography, accurate perceptions of human character,
and topical issues creates an exposure of group dynamics that is still relevant today. As we see Henry
Fonda s character, Juror #8, swing the verdict of a trial away from an 11 1 vote against the defendant
to a consensus for his freedom, many different elements of organizational behaviour are displayed.
How the group forms, acts, and interacts as time progresses are attributed to a multitude of internal
and external factors. Despite the simplicity of setting and premise, 12 Angry Men remains a beloved
film. It s authenticity of human behaviour, particularly in relation to conformity, team interaction, and
leadership, resonates with its audience as it tries to, as Juror #3 would say, talk about facts. Ultimately,
12 Angry Men s cinematographic balance of realism and sentimentalism in its story aptly summate the
struggles of the characters as they overcome the obstacles of group conflicts while addressing their
own moral qualms.
There are two important group development stages that occur in 12 Angry Men. The movie s
characters and tone is set during the forming stage, where the characters are first introduced into the
team. During this stage, the members ask themselves Can my needs be met at the same time that I
contribute to the group? Juror #7 makes his needs clear when he states we can get all get out of here
pretty quick...I happen to have tickets to that ball game tonight . By informing the group that he has
motivation to leave, he is likewise inferring that his commitment to the group will be low. Similarly in
this stage, the members learn more about each other and their personalities. Juror #3 sets himself as a
self titled experienced and pragmatic juror, telling others that I ve sat on many juries...I d slap those
tough kids down before they start any trouble. Consequently, as the jurors reveal more about each
other, the characters develop a solid inference on each other s individual personalities, and thus can
better predict the group s

from the aftermath of the epidemic and many are still at risk of contracting the disease.
The main public health problem Haiti is facing now is how can it provide protection from the disease

Cholera has not been a problem in Haiti for at least a century so its reintroduction into the population

The United Nations has claimed some responsibility for bringing about the epidemic as cases of
cholera started appearing near the camp of Nepalese UN peacekeepers, almost immediately after their
arrival to aid in the aftermath of the earthquake (Piarroux). These reports have caused political and
social upheaval as many protested the presence of the UN and the Nepalese in Haiti and demanded
they pay reparations for the damage that has been caused (Cholera in Haiti). The UN has been
reluctant to concede to these demands since it would open the door for other countries to sue the

order to examine how genre and narrative is established in two crime films, we conducted a close

The crime genre appeals to a mainstream and diverse audiences because of all the elements of the

The Theme Of Money In My Mortal Enemy By Willa Cather
There are many themes and symbols shown throughout My Mortal Enemy by Willa Cather, from love
to marriages, and choices. The motif I want to analyze is the motif of money. Money is used
throughout the whole book, it used to help persuade decisions, it characterizes their lavish lifestyle,
and it is what caused Oswald to become Myra s mortal enemy.
Myra, being an orphan child was raised by her great uncle, John Driscoll, who grew up a poor boy and
made his fortune employing contract labor in the Mississippi swamps (10). The novel describes their
lavish lifestyle in which they lived in a grand house on a ten acre park and was the finest property in
Parthia. Mr. Driscoll had fast horses that made national record, and Myra would throw balls and
garden parties, where she would have the band play their music (10). Myra s aunt said that Myra had
everything: dresses and jewels, a fine riding horse, a Steinway piano , and how her uncle took her to
Ireland and had her painted by one of the famous painters there (10 11).
At a youthful age, Myra did not care about money, though she cared about love. She fell in love with a
gentleman named Oswald Henshawe, but Mr. Driscoll had an old grudge of some sort with Oswald
father, and Driscoll did not like the idea Myra and Oswald being together. Oswald had left Parthia and
went to college at Harvard; he then moved to New York and after two years he was in the position to
get married (12). Then he wrote to John Driscoll for Myra s hand in

Output and Average Age
Your final project will be to analyze, design, and document a simple program that utilizes a good
design process and incorporates sequential, selection and repetitive programming statements as well as
at least one function call and the use of at least one array. The specific problem you need to solve for
the final project is: Design a program that will allow a user to Input a list of your family members
along with their age and state where they reside. Determine and print the average age of your family
and print the names of anyone who live in Texas. 1. Problem definition: Design a program that will

1 c) Write the assumptions and limitations and how they will be handled in your project.
Ans 1c)
In my project, there are numerous assumptions and limitations that are being handled in the pseudo
code. First of all, this program is only designed to calculate the average age of all the family members
that the user will input. There is no other calculation that the program has been designed to do.
Secondly, the program does not give the user any option or chance to return to inputting more family
members if they forgot to do so at the beginning. This program was not designed to have a set limit to
how many inputs the user could enter. This list could keep going on and on. This program is created to
calculate and display both the Average age of family Members and the residents who live in Texas. If
the user wanted to display just one of the results, the user would have to do the whole program just to
get one of the results. This is being handled by the pseudo code only being able to handle the
calculations that are set. The user does not have the ability to let the program know how many family
members will be entered before the user begins. To handle that, the Count function is being used in the
psuedocode to obtain the correct output.
1 d) Provide an alternative analysis and design approach showing a different way to solve the same
problem definition of family member in Texas. As you have learned, a single problem can be solved in

The Management Styles Of Chief Davis And Chief Fortier
In comparing the management styles of Chief Davis and Chief Fortier, one could argue that Chief
Davis approached the management of his department as a statesman, whereas Chief Fortier managed
as an administrator. Citing Chief Davis clear vision for his department and effective management style
(Cordner, 2014), Davis, unlike Fortier in the delegation of authority and duties placed qualified
individuals in positions to assure duties /issues were handled. Whereas, Fortier s general
implementation of departmental change was forced upon the officers and no assurance of competency
or training was given. Additionally, as Fortier reached outside of the department in attempts to reach
recommended goals, the Administrative style becomes obvious as the need to reach a goal is met by
the most effective means, as evidenced in the promotions and outside hiring practices introduced.
Likewise as officers and the community alike were accepting and receptive to Davis and the
managerial style he presented, Fortier s tenure with the department was less than stellar, receiving a
vote of no confidence by those he managed, and betrayal from the supervising staff.
The internal roles exhibited in the management of each department included leading or leadership by
Chief Davis. While both provided varying measures of management to their departments, the level of
management Fortier provided was not geared towards creating or guiding, but rather the inputs such as
equipment, reports, arrests...

Essay On Blood Pressure
Some drawback of this study are that all participants were males, and that they were not able to
determine whether changes in OxLDL, ICAM 1, and VCAM 1 were a result of increasing doses of
CJC or the duration of the study. Furthermore, a placebo group was not used. Although, only men
were tested and a placebo group was absent, other studies show similar results. Another study, looking
only at women, found that cranberry juice significantly increases plasma antioxidant capacity and
decreases oxidized low density lipoprotein. However, this study did not find that there were any
significant improvements in blood pressure (Basu, Betts, Ortiz, Simmons, Wu, Lyons, 2011). Further
research should be conducted to further evaluate the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Participants visited the Centre at the same time of day on five separate occasions. During the first
visit, they completed an exercise test on a cycle ergometer to determine the required workload for
following tests. They were required to ride the cycle ergometer for 10 minutes at a workload eliciting
a HR equivalent to 75% of their age predicted maximum. During subsequent visits participants were
instructed to fast for 4 hours and then supplement was consumed. The supplement was a dairy based
cocoa beverage powder which was either high (HF) or low (LF) in cocoa flavanols. Supplements were
reconstituted in 200 ml of water, which provided a total of either 701 mg cocoa flavanols or 22 mg
cocoa flavanols. The HF and LF drinks were matched in appearance and macronutrient, micronutrient
and alkaloid contents, with the only exception being cocoa flavanol content. Two hours after
supplementation flow mediated dilatation (FMD), to measure impaired endothelial function, was
conducted. In addition, blood pressure and heart rate were measured continuously during exercise.
Results and conclusion Twenty one volunteers, thirteen men and eight women, completed the trial. It
was found that two hours after consumption, the HF cocoa beverage resulted in a significantly greater
FMD response than the LF cocoa beverage. Furthermore, increases in BP were attenuated by HF
cocoa consumption

Clinical Reasoning Model Essay
Incorporating theory into practice is very important aspect in nursing profession. Nurses employ
analytical thinking and reasoning to evaluate health assessments and physical examinations. Core
essences of this concept include cognition, metacognition and discipline specific knowledge
(Simmons, B. 2010). The clinical reasoning model aids nurses to make clinical judgments. In the
scenario of Mrs Alice Palmer, numerous investigation where taken and due to limited information
more subjective data was needed as well as objective data had to be monitored constantly. Effective
clinical reasoning depends upon the nurse s ability to collect the right cues and to take the right action
for the right patient at the right time and for the right reason (Levett Jones, Hoffman, ... Show more

The application of critical thinking and clinical reasoning are crucial fundamentals in everyday life of
nurse s clinical practice. Like most skills, the more the nurses train, the more natural and easier it
becomes. Encouraging comparisons with similar presentations help learners widen their differential
diagnosis (Pinnock, R., Welch, P. 2014). Critical thinking is a purposeful, goal directed thinking
process that strives to problem solve patient care issues through the use of clinical reasoning (Estes,
M., Calleja, P., Theobald, K., Harvey, T. 2016). Clinical reasoning whereas is a disciplined, creative
and reflective approach used together with critical thinking to establish potential strategies to assist
patients in reaching their desired health goals (Estes, M., Calleja, P., Theobald, K., Harvey, T. 2016).
Both these skills are vital and failure to grasp and master these abilities result in adverse patient
outcomes such as improper patient care, incorrect diagnose and inappropriate treatment. In other

Morality in The Hunt for Red October Essay
Morality in The Hunt for Red October
While hundreds, even thousands of excellent movies have been made over the years since motion
pictures were invented, there are some movies that stand out among the best. There are various
reasons for these standouts, sometimes incredible acting, sometimes impeccable story lines, but in
many cases, it is the issues addressed by the movie. Most of the greatest movies contain commentaries
or analyses of certain issues, be they moral, social, or otherwise. John McTiernan directed one of these
films, The Hunt for Red October, based on the similarly titled best selling novel by Tom Clancy. The

The officers of Ramius crew have also had to make their own moral decisions as they assist Ramius
defection. They, too, have had to follow the beliefs of right and wrong instead of the morality that has
been given to them by their naval superiors.
There is also a moral decision to be made by the KGB agent loyal to the Soviet Union on Ramius
submarine, the cook s assistant Loginov. When he discovers that Ramius is intending to defect, he
makes the decision to attempt to stop Ramius, even at cost of his own life. The fact that he is against
the hero of the movie, Ramius, does not mean that he is evil, although he is seen as such for purposes
of the movie. His decision comes from his belief that what Ramius is doing is morally wrong. He
believes that defection is treason, and is unacceptable under any circumstances, and he believes that it
is his job to prevent this treason. His decision comes from his own moral beliefs, and therefore cannot
be labeled as wrong. His beliefs are simply different from Ramius .
The Russians are not the only characters that must make moral decisions. The other main character of
the movie, Jack Ryan, must face his own moral decisions. To begin, he must decide whether to follow
the advice of the military council, or to follow his belief that Ramius is trying to defect. His decision
will impact Ramius decision, since if no one believes

Clackamas Child Service Complaint
The purpose of this letter is to acknowledge that this office has received your two customer service
complaints from the North Clackamas Child Welfare branch of the Department of Human Services.
The first complaint received on July 15, 2015 detailed the difficulty you had in reaching the STARS
team to schedule an assessment because you were provided the incorrect telephone number.
The second complaint, received on July 17, recorded your displeasure that the scheduled visit on this
date was delayed more than five minutes causing you to be late for your school classes. You described
that the Child Welfare program was nelegense .
We appreciate you taking the time to provide information on barriers that prohibit you from gaining
access to services provided by the Child Welfare program. As a result of being notified that the
STARS telephone number was incorrect, that number has since been corrected.

The court has made the decision that the Child Welfare program should be given temporary legal
custody of your child. Based on state and federal laws the placement of children is only completed
with considerable evidence that the child is unsafe due to abuse or neglect. The business practices and
decisions made concerning Protective Services are not determined unilaterally but involve many
individuals who evaluate the safety and welfare of children with the objective of keeping them safe
from abuse and neglect. Making decisions in this fashion ensures that impartial, neutral individuals
will facilitate the decision making rather than one individual. Removing children from their families
can be a traumatic, life changing event and is not done without considerable deliberation and

Orion Nebulae Research Paper
Nebulae inside the Milky Way Galaxy or separate, distant Galaxies?
Discoveries of what were termed nebulae began in the early 17th century. The first of these
discoveries was the Orion Nebula, which looked like a normal star to the naked eye. French scholar
Peiresc discovered it in 1610 using one of the first telescopes to be made. Later, in 1656, Christiaan
Huygens observed the interior of the Orion Nebula and determined that it consisted of a compact
quadruple star system instead of a singular star. During the 18th and 19th century, nebulas were
discovered even though astronomers were mainly scanning the sky for comets. Some major
astronomers who contributed greatly to the discovery of nebulas, among other things, during the 18th
and 19th century were Messier and the Herschel family. Though the instrumentation available to
astronomers during the 18th and 19th century were highly advanced compared to earlier times, they
weren t advanced enough to detect the motion of extragalactic objects or their composition. This lack
of precision instrumentation, and thus the dissociation from motion of stars/star clusters/nebulae, were
the main reasons astronomers during this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

determination of motion in 3 D space. Astrophotography especially the dry plates was a major

galaxies/star systems. Telescopes could be mounted with plate holders and spectrographs or studio
cameras could be mounted with a prism on top to show spectra of the objects being photographed. All
these developments greatly contributed to early 20th century astronomers ability to realize that many

The Interview With A Interview Essay
Although, all the participants had not experienced being in an interview before, they agree to have the
interviews recorded. For them, it was the first time spoke openly to a person outside of their family
and friends cycle about their experience. Women showed their interest on my research and felt that
their participation might be helpful in informing cancer health care services. My aim from the
recorded interviews is to understand how women response and interact with my questions that enabled
the collection of rich data.
Elliott (2005) stressed on the importance of telling the interviewees from the beginning about the
timing as to make them aware of how much information to share. The Interview duration was last
between one and two hours including pausing because some women were emotionally affected. The
interviews private setting at the hospital helped the recordings to be clear with minimal noise and
distractions. A number of participants were comfortable talking with me about their personal
experiences and private issues and found it very useful to express their emotions. However, some
women commented being uncomfortable discussing issues related to financial and social issues. Some
women tend to give socially pleasing answers; this type of responses noted mostly when they describe
their position as cancer survivors. Therefore, further questions and asking for examples were used to
elicit deeper understanding.

  • 3. The Importance Of Learning Computer Science We live in the time period at which the vast majority of college students take fundamental level of computer science. It is because a lot of job requires some level of knowledge in it. It also determines the payment in their future job. It is an indisputable fact that people who did not learn computer science learn less salary than those who did learn. Therefore, the majority of the college students are obsessed with computer science to acquire a financial advantage in the work place. In the first of class of IDS 190, Dr. James Lu explained to us that we would explore in this course on one inquiry: is learning computer science important to our life? Dr. Lu underscored throughout the semester that computer science can teach the skill of computational thinking. According Jeannette M. Wing, a professor at Carnegie Mellon University, computational thinking[It] represents a universally applicable attitude and skill set everyone, not just computer scientists, would be eager to learn and us. In other word, computational thinking is relevant to algorithmic thinking, searching ability, logical reasoning, abstraction, caching, recursion, representation, basic loop idiom, and nested loops, all of which are computer science skills. And knowing those specific techniques, according to Wing, will influence our problem solving ability, creativity, and thinking. However, though computer science can tremendously help develop our capability, those developments are not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Image Processing Essay 4.1 INTRODUCTION In image processing, noise reduction and restoration of image is expected to enhance the qualitative inspection of an image and the performance criteria of quantitative image analysis methods Digital image is inclined to a variety of noise which attribute the quality of image. The main purpose of de noising the image is to reinstate the detail of original image as much as possible. The criteria of the noise removal problem depends on the noise type by which the image is contaminated .In the field of reducing the image noise variously type of linear and non linear filtering techniques have been proposed . DCT is Fourier related Transform similar to DFT, but using only real numbers. It is used for image comparison in frequency domain. DCT is more robust to various image processing technique like filtering, bluing brightness and contrast adjustment etc. although these are decrepit to geometric attacks like rotation, scaling, cropping etc. it is used in JPEG compression. DCTs are generally related to Fourier series coefficients of a periodically and symmetrically extended sequence. In DCT an image can be broken down into three different frequency bands High frequency components block (FH), Middle frequency components block (FM) and Low frequency components block (FL). Standardized Terminologies In Nursing Practice Applying Standardized Terminologies in Practice Hyperhemesis gravidarum is a condition in which the pregnant woman experiences severe nausea and vomiting. Although the causes of hyperemesis gravidarum are not well known; however, many believe that elevated blood level of human chorionic gonadotopin (HCG) may be a contributing factor of this condition. Currently the cause of nausea and vomiting in pregnancy is unknown, although there is strong evidence linking human chorionic gonadotropin or estrogens as well as genetic susceptibility possibly mediated through the vestibuloocular reflex pathway (Fejzo et al., 2012). • 6. Juvenile Justice Systems Introduction Juvenile crime is a term around the world that is difficult to pinpoint and although there are several definitions many fail to be concrete. There are many factors that play into sentencing juveniles or minors upon a crime committed. How old are they? Can they mentally form criminal intent? Are they old enough to no longer be treated as children? Some people would argue that a criminal is just that, regardless of age. Research on the other hand shows that juveniles have underdeveloped brains who at times have difficulty rationalizing decisions and weighing out consequences. It is important that these issues are addressed because of the implications this has on not only the juveniles but the community around them. These ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So even though they are perfectly able in other parts of the brain their lack of a developed frontal lobe can distort a juveniles decisions. (American Bar Association, 2003) This makes it difficult for juveniles to measure consequences beyond their actions in the moment. In a film about incarcerated Juveniles 14 year old Colt was convicted of killing his stepfather. He tells his story and what he was thinking before committing the act, I didn t think I would go to prison, I thought the worse they could give me was probation or boys camp, I didn t realize that after the fact that every decision I make has consequences. (Kent, 2011) Research in adolescent brains has shown us that they use their amygdala to make decisions. Amygdala is responsible for fear and anxiety making juveniles reliance on it quite dangerous. In male adolescent in particular we see an increase in testosterone which increases aggression and in females the increase of hormones causes depression anxiety causing irrational choices. • 7. Spotted Owl Essay The spotted owls in western North America still exist today, despite being an endangered species. There has been plenty of controversy surrounding the species regarding their habitat because their habitat is desired and used by logging companies. These owls tend to reside in old forests as they prefer old trees which are also preferred for logging. There has been plenty of controversy on whether or not logging companies should be put to a halt in forests that these owls reside in, which involve balancing values of environment and economy. This is mainly due to the fact that logging provides jobs as well as resources to people, despite the fact that it affects the owls and their ecosystem. It is debated whether or not owl s habitat and ecosystem should be protected or not for the sake of logging. Due to unfortunate circumstances, such as logging, the spotted owl s habitat has been declining, thus resulting in the population to also decline. It has been reported that, there are fewer than 100 pairs of Northern spotted owls in British Columbia, Canada, 1,200 pairs in Oregon, 560 pairs in northern California and 500 pairs in the state of Washington. ( Basic Facts About Northern Spotted Owls 2012), which demonstrates the the small amount of spotted owls left in parts of western North America. This coincides with the fact that the population is declining five times faster than anticipated under a British Columbia plan. The population has declined rapidly between 1992 to 2001 ... • 8. Marxist View on Education Using material from Item A and elsewhere, assess the view that the education system exists mainly to select and prepare young people for their future work roles. (20 marks) As stated in Item A sociologists see the education system as performing a vital role in modern societies. Item A also highlights that the education system can equip individuals with the specialised knowledge and skills they will need when they join the workforce. Therefore, the education system helps select and allocate individuals into their future work roles. Although many sociologists agree this is the main role of education, they argue whether this is a positive thing or a negative thing. Whereas Functionalists believe this role of education benefits society and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Althusser also argues that pupils learn a smokescreen so they cannot see inequality and the lie of meritocracy. He claims that schools try to promote the belief of meritocracy this basically means success is based on your own merit and ability. This supposedly helps motivate pupils to work hard because if they do they will succeed in life and in their chosen careers. However Althusser believes this is a lie as schools are in no way meritocratic. This is shown through the fact that the middle classes have more opportunity i.e. being able to afford the best possible education etc. Althusser believes that schools teach working class pupils to blame themselves for social failure instead of society i.e. if pupils fail they will usually say they didn t work hard enough etc. Although schools have a role of promoting the ruling class ideology, educations main role is to mould pupils into ideal workers which helps prop up and maintain capitalism. Durkheim also believes education has the important role of teaching the skills needed for work and that it has an allocation function which helps people fit into the right roles in society. It has been suggested that this helps prepare young people for their future work roles through the teaching of specialist skills. Functionalist Parsons builds on Durkheim s ideas. ... The reader might have to analyze the story to a deeper thought to find the literary devices used. The Lord of the Flies is all about the origin of human characteristics, whether humanity is considered morally good or initially evil, without laws or authority. The conch is one object that shows the theme of humanity. The symbolism of the conch changes throughout the book. The symbolism of the conch is order, democracy, social order, respect, and power at the beginning of the book. At the end of the novel, the conch loses its power and portrays savagery and barbarism. At the same time as the conch loses its power and symbolism, Simon gets killed by the savagery of the boys. Piggy and the conch gets crushed. • 15. The Conflict in Darfur and United States Involvement The conflict in Darfur refers to the fighting that is happening in the western region of Sudan known as Darfur. These fights have been taking place since 2003 and have continued to today. Similarities can be made to the Rwandan Genocide; there is a government funded and armed militia that is not officially supported by the government that is killing a local population. The citizens of the region of Darfur that are being killed are not Arabic, like the majority of the rest of Sudan is, however, they are more similar in culture and other aspects to the citizens of South Sudan, Sudan s neighboring country to the south with which Sudan has had multiple wars with. Despite the fact that there is a militia that is killing citizens, there are also other militias that are fighting for the Darfuri people. These two sides have been fighting each other for close to ten years. Even though citizens of a certain group are being targeted by a militia, the conflict in Darfur is not a genocide. The United States should not get involved militarily in this conflict because it is only a conflict and not a genocide. It is a war between two groups over disputes between these groups. Instead, the United States should use diplomacy to help end the conflict happening in Darfur. A genocide is the systematic attempt to eliminate a group of people based on race, religion, ethnicity, or other defining group characteristic. • 17. National Regulation For Chambers Of Commerce 2.1.1. National regulation for chambers of commerce CCMA is a private company that has private and public services. Public services are regulated by National Government (Confecamras, n.d.), while private services works with market logic and compete with other companies´ services. Since CCMA develops some public services, it can be affected by normative changes, which could imply for the company a reduction of its incomes or a rise of its operational costs. Due to these facts the CCMA must reduce its level of dependency of political factors, generating more incomes through its private services, which means that this public threat makes evident an opportunity of developing new services and growing the scope of the actual private services. Besides CCMA must be aware of changes in regulations. 2.1.2. A strong brand The CCMA has a recognized brand in the region where it offers its services. This has been achieved due to the company´s presence in that market for 100 years, and the number of companies associated that it has (CCMA, n.d; Figueroa N., 2015). Another factor that helps company to have a strong brand is the projects and programs that this company develop with local governments, which allows it positioning its brand and promote its services (Osorio, 2004; Arias, 2014, El Tiempo, n.d.). This strength of the CCMA is an asset that helps positioning company´s services in the mind of its customers (Hollensen, 2015). 2.1.3. An excellent customer service culture ... • 20. Gender Roles In STEM Over the course of history, advances made by women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) have been overshadowed and downplayed due to a male dominant culture in these fields. The primary reason for these fields being dominated by males is the way women have been forced into gender roles over the course of history. Women with ambition to build, create, and discover have been discouraged from following their passions and are instead told to focus on raising their children. This discrimination has hurt the overall progress in scientific communities as it has limited women in the resources available to them and has forced them to work in the shadows. Yet there has still been great progress in STEM made by women. Over the past ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many women end up surrounded by male peers with no one to relate to in their coursework. Women may find themselves isolated in their classes and unable to find academic organizations on campus that support women majoring in STEM. Being unrepresented in STEM academia and having a limited amount of peers to relate to leads to discouragement. Women also face harsher criticism due to male bias within the STEM communities. This criticism comes not only from their male peers, but from administrative staff at institutions as well. One study shows that many woman applying for STEM related scholarships have had to be up to 2.5 times more productive than men to be considered equally competent (Barres, 386). This is again due to the gender stereotypes that have become imbedded within society. This bias also means women pursuing STEM degrees are put at a disadvantage in regards to selective processes for internships and academic clubs. By constantly having to prove themselves and repeatedly being discouraged by their environment, women studying STEM have a much harder time than men staying motivated in their courses. This of course leads to lower grades and a greater likelihood of dropping out of their programs. It is also safe to assume that creating an environment that causes women to constantly doubt themselves will have a negative impact on their academic performance; any student male or female must believe in themselves to be able to ... As we see Henry Fonda s character, Juror #8, swing the verdict of a trial away from an 11 1 vote against the defendant to a consensus for his freedom, many different elements of organizational behaviour are displayed. How the group forms, acts, and interacts as time progresses are attributed to a multitude of internal and external factors. • 41. The Theme Of Money In My Mortal Enemy By Willa Cather There are many themes and symbols shown throughout My Mortal Enemy by Willa Cather, from love to marriages, and choices. The motif I want to analyze is the motif of money. Money is used throughout the whole book, it used to help persuade decisions, it characterizes their lavish lifestyle, and it is what caused Oswald to become Myra s mortal enemy. Myra, being an orphan child was raised by her great uncle, John Driscoll, who grew up a poor boy and made his fortune employing contract labor in the Mississippi swamps (10). The novel describes their lavish lifestyle in which they lived in a grand house on a ten acre park and was the finest property in Parthia. Mr. Driscoll had fast horses that made national record, and Myra would throw balls and garden parties, where she would have the band play their music (10). Myra s aunt said that Myra had everything: dresses and jewels, a fine riding horse, a Steinway piano , and how her uncle took her to Ireland and had her painted by one of the famous painters there (10 11). At a youthful age, Myra did not care about money, though she cared about love. She fell in love with a gentleman named Oswald Henshawe, but Mr. Driscoll had an old grudge of some sort with Oswald father, and Driscoll did not like the idea Myra and Oswald being together. Oswald had left Parthia and went to college at Harvard; he then moved to New York and after two years he was in the position to get married (12). Then he wrote to John Driscoll for Myra s hand in ... Secondly, the program does not give the user any option or chance to return to inputting more family members if they forgot to do so at the beginning. • 43. The Management Styles Of Chief Davis And Chief Fortier In comparing the management styles of Chief Davis and Chief Fortier, one could argue that Chief Davis approached the management of his department as a statesman, whereas Chief Fortier managed as an administrator. Citing Chief Davis clear vision for his department and effective management style (Cordner, 2014), Davis, unlike Fortier in the delegation of authority and duties placed qualified individuals in positions to assure duties /issues were handled. Whereas, Fortier s general implementation of departmental change was forced upon the officers and no assurance of competency or training was given. Additionally, as Fortier reached outside of the department in attempts to reach recommended goals, the Administrative style becomes obvious as the need to reach a goal is met by the most effective means, as evidenced in the promotions and outside hiring practices introduced. Likewise as officers and the community alike were accepting and receptive to Davis and the managerial style he presented, Fortier s tenure with the department was less than stellar, receiving a vote of no confidence by those he managed, and betrayal from the supervising staff. The internal roles exhibited in the management of each department included leading or leadership by Chief Davis. • 48. Orion Nebulae Research Paper Nebulae inside the Milky Way Galaxy or separate, distant Galaxies? Discoveries of what were termed nebulae began in the early 17th century. The first of these discoveries was the Orion Nebula, which looked like a normal star to the naked eye. French scholar Peiresc discovered it in 1610 using one of the first telescopes to be made. Later, in 1656, Christiaan Huygens observed the interior of the Orion Nebula and determined that it consisted of a compact quadruple star system instead of a singular star. During the 18th and 19th century, nebulas were discovered even though astronomers were mainly scanning the sky for comets. Some major astronomers who contributed greatly to the discovery of nebulas, among other things, during the 18th and 19th century were Messier and the Herschel family. Though the instrumentation available to astronomers during the 18th and 19th century were highly advanced compared to earlier times, they weren t advanced enough to detect the motion of extragalactic objects or their composition.
